Starting point is 00:00:00 What happens when nothing goes to plan where everything that you thought you were going to do, everything that you wanted to do doesn't work out for some reason and you're stuck in a middle of a field in Krakuf, Poland, and you've realized that the little card that you bring that makes the Zerky Show, the Zerky Show, you left at home. Halfway across the world, you left it at home in Austin, Texas. You adjust. You adjust. Because it's really not that big of a deal.
Starting point is 00:00:30 because the truth is the plan that you had you probably still can do and you probably just need to make a few adjustments it's interesting when we build a routine when we have things that we want to do in a certain way everything feels unstoppable when you're on that track when you are on the routine when you are grinding it's like everything is perfect but i find that in the minute or the second we get challenged There's an obstacle something isn't working right. We are so quick to Disruct throw everything all the ounces of progress that we had out the window because oh my it's over People do this a lot with relationships like their first fight is just an explosion there you go right there right? It's just like Why it's not that big of a deal if you genuinely like the person like it's just some thunder, okay?
Starting point is 00:01:34 It's going to hit. The lightning is going to strike and then it's gone. Bad things happen. They do. Right now, maybe you're getting hailed on. Okay. Your girlfriend or boyfriend or hinge fling broke up with you. You failed a class that you knew you should have locked in on. Bro, I swear we're going to lock in. No, you're not. You know how many times I've said that? Okay, so you haven't, but you know you should have. Man, maybe even like you've had somebody passing your family that was really close to you. you have no idea what to do. The truth is there are no guidebooks to life.
Starting point is 00:02:12 I mean, there are, but the truth is you have to live through the experience to know how you can handle it. You have to go through bad times in order to appreciate good times. And I get it. I'm also somebody who's very particular about my fails. I don't like failing. I'm afraid, right? Like everybody else. But I've learned that I will not learn anything or,
Starting point is 00:02:36 experience anything if I do not just try, if I don't acknowledge the fact that I might have a bad time doing something or I might be uncomfortable or that right now things suck. But it's really not that big of a deal. But you only know that after the fact. You have no idea about that beforehand. There's like very minimal signs that point to, oh, me getting cheated on is actually going to teach me my worth. No, in the moment, you getting cheated on sucks. There's nothing about that that is like, well, you know, it could have been with two people instead of one. I mean, yeah, I guess, you know, in a roundabout way, sure. But, dude, it's okay for things to suck. It sucks right now. You made a mistake. You knew what the mistake was and you still made it. And you
Starting point is 00:03:31 promised yourself you weren't going to do it. And you did it. Okay. Let's acknowledge that it happened. I left my paper at home. Okay, not a big deal. I'm still here. I still showed up. You're going through a rough patch in your relationship. Okay, that sucks. But can you still show up?
Starting point is 00:03:52 You didn't feel like getting up to go to the gym today. Okay, that's fine. But can you still show up? Because maybe it's self-sabotage. Maybe it's those thoughts of somebody else that are creeping into your mind or it's the perspective that somebody else has put on to you and you're finding the evidence to believe in that. Because what a lot of people don't understand about changing and about improving as a person, right, is that your body and your mind are going to fight you.
Starting point is 00:04:25 They are going to do everything to keep you going the way that you were going because that's the routine. That's the habit. No, duh, it's difficult. No, duh, you can't be waking up at 5 a.m. every morning. No, no, there's going to be times where you cannot do that if that's a habit you're trying to start. I do not wake up at 5 a.m. every morning and I get all my work done. Just a PSA, okay? That whole, this is productivity. No, it's not. Productivity. Productivity is finding out how you are naturally, what environments you work the best in, with what people you work the best with, and just like listening to yourself.
Starting point is 00:05:03 productivity I don't know has been kind of glamorized as like that is the way to live life it's a part of it if you don't spend time with the people that you love if you don't give yourself time to just like hang out in a park in the middle of Krakuf Poland what's all this hard work for like what are you doing it all for to show other people that you're working hard it's all for other people. It's all for other people. I've lived my life for other people way too long, man. I have. And I kind of told myself, like, in 20, 24, I remember pre-Zerky show, I was like, I'm done with it. It's just not sustainable. I just keep trying to do everything for another person. I'm trying to perform. Get me off this stage, bro. Like, let me just be. Let me do things I'm interested in. Let me be the person
Starting point is 00:05:57 that I've always wanted to be, but I was too afraid to be. What would that look like? Murphy's Law. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Can you accept Murphy's Law and still do the thing that you want to do? If you have a goal of drawing every single day and on day one, you start drawing and it looks good and you're like, oh, this is great. I'm back. We're so back. It doesn't look good. I kind of hate how it looks, but whatever, we're back. And you pull up on day two, you draw again, it looks good. And you're kind of like, okay, we're getting the swing of things. And then day three, you're drawing and then you break your pen.
Starting point is 00:06:37 And you're like, oh, dang. Okay. And then you grab another pen and you start drawing again. And then you break it again. You break two pens, which is like the odds of that happening, very low, but it happens. Okay. And then you grab the paper, because maybe it's the paper, right? And you rip your entire notebook.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Can you still go on? The answer is, depending on how bad you want it. It's depending on how bad you want it. It depends on your why. Why are you drawing? Are you drawing for yourself? Because if that's the case and you're drawing because you want to get better and you want to be a better artist or you want to get your drawing skills to a certain level so you can apply for architect school,
Starting point is 00:07:22 right? Right? Architects school, architecture school to be an architect. Then that won't be a problem. You won't look at that and get frustrated. But if it's performative and you don't like any of it. and you're doing it because you've told all of your friends that you're good at art and they're saying, where's the art at, bro?
Starting point is 00:07:37 Or you've been defined by like your family or by your colleagues as the person who draws well, then you're going to be frustrated because you don't want, you don't want to go through those obstacles in an honest, genuine way. Starting point is 00:08:57 Society. But like, if you are not willing to go through the obstacles of the chosen thing that you're doing, maybe it's not cut out for you. Maybe that's not actually what you want to do. And you've lied to yourself. Because I have obstacles happen in my life every single day. But I love, I love doing this. So I do it.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Obstacles happen every day for me not to be able to write. But I love writing. So I write every day. And even if I miss a day and it doesn't work out and I tried but I just couldn't, oftentimes, let's be realistic, it's not be. because we tried hard enough. It's not. And guess what I'm going to say? That's okay too. That's okay too. Bro, but I should be trying hard. Every single day, I should be on top of my game. Bro, athletes have bad games. There have been games in Messi's career at Barcelona, where he did not
Starting point is 00:10:06 show up, where he was ghost, famously was ghost. Usually they were very important games. Well, No, actually not. Messy showed up for the games that mattered, to be fair. But go through that. Like, let yourself have a bad day where you just did not try. Let yourself, it's fine. Because probably after some good sleep, some good rest, which is what your body is telling you you need oftentimes,
Starting point is 00:10:36 you're going to be like, bruh, like, let's get back to it. You know, yesterday wasn't my day. You know, I didn't do what I said I was going to do. Okay, but today's a new. new day. I'm waking up earlier because I decided I was going to go to bed earlier. And like, let's go. It's zero, zero. The game started over. You know, let's go. We're hung up on the past. We're hung up on the past, man. And the past, to a certain extent, matters. It does, right? Like, things that you've done wrong, they matter. But I think it's the culmination of the things that
Starting point is 00:11:19 you've done that actually matters more than like that one time that you made a joke, an inappropriate joke, and your crush got offended when you were trying to make her laugh, you know? Like, that's not, that's not what's defining your life. And that's probably not what's keeping you in a miserable state. What's keeping you in a miserable state is thinking that you've cooked to yourself and that your 18, 19, 20, 21 years of existence have been for nothing. And I know how you feel, because I felt that way. Because I lived life for other people. And it was not at all similar to the life that I wanted to live.
Starting point is 00:12:05 They were interested in things I was not interested in. And I was trying to do and force myself to do things and be outside and, you know, part A. And put on this image of like the college bro. That just wasn't me, man. That's not me. And there's no shame in that. There's no shame in that. I don't know what will force you to build a better relationship with yourself.
Starting point is 00:12:39 For me, it's pain. Pain has forced me to do that a lot. Maybe it's heartbreak. Maybe it's going in deep within yourself and realizing, yo, I am not happy with who I am. How do you expect things to change if you're still looking backwards? And you're still looking at everything that went wrong. You can't even look forward and think of how things could go right. And this is a pattern that so many people go through through their life,
Starting point is 00:13:21 and they're not even cognizant of it. And you catching on to it, you're ahead of most people on this planet. Because most people, I would argue, live in a lot of resentment, a lot of resentment. They look backwards and think, oh, I wasted so many years. Oh, I wasted so much time. I just don't want that to be you. I don't want that to be you. The storm is going to pass.
Starting point is 00:13:51 The storm is going to pass. Are you going to stand in the rain? Are you going to keep going? Because even when you keep going, it's still going to be raining. The storm has to do what it has to do. But if you just let yourself sit there, I mean, what's the point? What's the point? Because after the storm passes, you're going to look back and you're going to wish that you went somewhere.
Starting point is 00:14:20 You're going to wish that you did something. because the way that things are now, like the way that you look at the world and interact with the world right now, that is what is predicting the future. If things are going good for you, hey, don't change a thing. But if you're not happy, be honest, look at it and be like I'm not happy. And you know what? I'm taking accountability for it because I got to do something about it. I'm not happy that I wake up late, that I go to sleep super late. I'm not happy that I have really bad friendships
Starting point is 00:14:51 and the people that I'm closest to I can't even call my friends because I can't call on them because I've ruined some friendships and I'll let you in on another secret these are things that you're going to have to work on your entire life frozen lasagna medium power 15 minutes

Starting point is 00:16:31 so many different age gaps man like my grandparents bro they have no idea what's going on I tried to show them Italian brain rot the other day and they just they looked at me like a deer in headlights okay that's a little that's out of their league to be fair
Starting point is 00:16:50 you you don't have to have anything figured out You don't have to know what job you're going to get after college, all of this. Like, that is the last thing you need to know. The first thing you need to know is you've got to understand that things are going to be okay. All right? And believe it. And now we can move forward and we can examine, like, what's going on. You keep, I keep making mistakes.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Okay, why? I'm not organized. Oh, my goodness. My brain is all over the place. Okay. What can you, what's a solution that you can do? Can you make a planner? No, my brain doesn't work that way.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Okay, kind of limiting belief already because most people that say, my brain doesn't work that way, have never even tried it, to be fair. And everyone thinks, oh, it's just, there's one way to do a planner. There's one way to do a to-do list. No. No. I used to draw my to-dos, bro.
Starting point is 00:17:42 I would, like, doodle and stuff, just so I stayed, like, engaged. I'm all over the place as much as everybody, if not more. Some people are really all over the place. I will say that. but man find the solution stop giving yourself excuses
Starting point is 00:17:59 because it's not going to change it so we have to accept that like all right maybe we are a little bit different that's okay but let's figure out what we need to do and change at the end of the day zirky show it really is a choice it's your choice and I'm not going to tell you how to live your life
