Why would you be intentional with your time when you have a device that can spend the time for you?
It can curate whatever you want to see for you.
I don't blame us.
I used to rage quit all the time.
If I was playing FIFA and I was down by three goals, before halftime, I would shut my console off.
That was it.
I was done.
If I was playing Minecraft, listening to some bangering by Skrillix,
and I was working on my house, and next thing you know, all I hear is,
I would shut my laptop.
It was done. I was done.
And all of those rage quits happened when I was super young, right?
That was just my habit.
But today, at the age of 23, I rage quit in real life.
And this is why.
I pulled up to one of my favorite parks in Austin, Texas,
and Joe Roganville Cyber Truck City.
And I was so excited to film a video topic that I had wanted to make for a while.
I opened up my backpack.
And I find out that the folder that I keep all of my papers in wasn't there.
It wasn't there.
It was AFK.
It was gone.
And I got really upset.
So upset that I had set up everything.
I was ready to go.
And I just took everything down in my left.
But I wasn't upset that I had forgotten the folder.
That was just the thing that kind of ticked me off.
It was because of all the little things I slowly realized I was doing.
that caused me to forget the folder, and it was becoming a habit.
This is what I learned.
Respect your time.
You need to respect your time, and we don't do it.
We don't do it because time seems infinite.
It seems like it just goes by, and we have no control over it.
and that doom scroll that started as 15 minutes on Reddit has turned into an hour and 30 minutes
and you're in so deep that you decide whatever.
And that's the problem.
That's a huge problem.
A lot of us feel like we don't have enough time for the things that we really like.
It's because we don't respect our time in the first place.
We don't treat our own time as if it is valuable when it is very valuable.
It is so valuable.
And for me, it causes me to make really simple mistakes.
The folder should have been in my backpack yesterday
when I knew that I had to film today and I wanted to film today.
I should have had the folder in my backpack.
Why didn't I?
Because I didn't respect my time.
Instead, I was watching.
I don't even know.
That's the problem.
I have no idea.
I don't know.
You could ask.
What were you watching yesterday?
I can't tell you.
I have zero recollection because I don't respect my time.
I don't fill it with, you know, watching something that I genuinely really want to watch.
And it's not a, you know, I don't think you need to be productive all the time.
Grindset.
There's a productive way to watch TV and relax.
No, like, that's not what I mean, but what I mean is you know when you're disrespecting your time.
You know when you have something that needs to get done or you have something that you want to do.
And instead of doing it, you throw yourself under the bus by just doing something that it doesn't matter.
You have an assignment that's due, and instead you're cleaning, you're organizing your room.
But you're really procrastinating and you're using that time for nonsense.
And I say that because that's me.
Like every day.
So how do we respect our time?
How do we actually be intentional with the time that we get?
because most of the time throughout the week when you have other obligations, you have other things that you have to do,
it's difficult to use your time that you now have, which is free for yourself.
Building a relationship with the time that you spend is like very important.
Because for a lot of us, we don't have, we haven't been taught to really have a,
relationship with it. We're just kind of taught that when you don't have time, when you're not at work,
when you're not at school, you do nothing. You don't do anything. And for a lot of us, that might
be great. But for some of us that want to do something in our free time that we feel passion for,
we want to create something, we want to work on something that won't cut it. Like that alone time,
that time that is free is sacred. And it doesn't have to be, you know, for the grind.
It can be like spending time with family.
I have procrastinated so many times like spending time with my friends because I have other, you know, things I got to get done in the day and I tell myself, okay, I need to get these things done.
These are non-negotiable.
And I'm looking forward to spending time with my friends, but I procrastinate the things I got to do and then I can't spend time with my friends.
And that's not fair.
It's a blatant disrespect to my time.
This lesson really hit me hard because I really want to use my.
alone time and my me time for a good thing and I feel like I don't.

I feel like I waste a lot of it.
And maybe it is my brain trying to relax, but I don't.
I don't do that.
I instead fill my time watching and consuming media that doesn't matter to me.
It is mindless.
It just numbs my brain.
Because oftentimes I'm, you know, stressed.
Maybe I'm tired.
Maybe I feel bad about myself.
And instead of, you know, tackling this and being like, all right, like, let's, you know,
treat myself like a toddler.
Let's go out for a walk.
Let's go and relax somewhere.
Let's go swimming.
I can't tell you the last time I went swimming.
Like I just numb my brain with cheap hits of dopamine.
And then I feel terrible.
And then it starts to affect my personal life.
and what I do and what I love to do.
And today I just hit a point where I was like, no, this can't be happening anymore.
And I think it's hard.
It's really difficult.
It's really difficult because now spending time doing something that is good for you is an effort.
Before it was the base of the human experience.
Like, you know, in the 70s and the 2000s, like people were.
not really doing what we're doing. They weren't rotting in the same way. You know, now it's,
it's funny, like, watching a movie to me is considered as productive because we don't, we don't do that.
I mean, I can't tell you the last time I watched a movie. I watched Home Alone one and two,
actually, over Christmas, and that was great. It was awesome. But it's difficult because
back in the day, like watching movies was considered like brain rot.
And now that's like, oh, like I watch movies.
That's like, whoa, that's pretty cool.
It's crazy.
I know it's difficult.
It's difficult to be honest with yourself.
It is difficult to tell yourself, dude, I haven't really been doing much.
And I have all of this free time.
Like, let me take up something.
Let me do something.
I've always wanted to learn how to do photography.
and I've been procrastinating starting that.
Respect your time.
For a lot of us, like, we have a lot of time,
and because we are in systems that take up a lot of our time,
high school, college, a job,
we are so stimulated, we are so stressed with that part of our lives
that we can't disconnect, and when we go home,
we look for things to just numb us.
But it doesn't help.
It doesn't help.
Have you noticed that when you take, you know, a scroll break, when you take a hit,
after you're done getting that dopamine hit, you feel the exact same.
You feel like literally the exact same.
Versus personally in my life, like when I go out and do something, when I go out and try to kind of relax
and try to play some soccer with the bros, you know, do some Ronaldinho chops.
I feel a lot better.
I feel a lot more tame.
This morning, I went on a run with my bro Gadini.
Shout out Gadini.
And that was a great way to start the morning.
I felt so good.
I felt great.
And that was because I respected my time.
I was like, you know what?
I'm going to wake up this morning.
And I'm going to go on a run with my bro.
And it's important to me.
Like that running is important to me.
Not only because it's important to be active.
It's good for your physical.
It's good for this.
Like going on a run, going on a walk.
It's good for your brain too.
But also like it gives me something to do
and an excuse to get out of bed early
and get to a.
Start doing things.
But I just, I got to a point today where I really,
I did rage quit.
I really got upset.
And I was upset because I,
I haven't been respecting my,
time and I've been using it instead as I've been just distracting myself from emotions that I've
been feeling and I've been you know in the past I used to do that with food I used to binge
eat food really badly and I would do it with other things that were very unhealthy for me like
staying up super late and that was bad that was always bad like going to bed at 3 a.m. is not
healthy that's not a healthy thing to do in my opinion you know hey if you're productive
by staying up till 3 a.m. and waking up later?
Who am I to say that that's not good for you?
I don't know.
But in my personal life, it's only been bad.
It's not been good.
But it's so difficult because time is the currency.
That is the thing that people are fighting the most for right now.
For our time, for Gen Z's time.
It's like, you know, which dating app is taking up the most of Gen Z's time?
We need to invest in the ads for that.
And we need to respect it.
When was the last time you went on a bike ride?
Like this guy.
You know, I would love to do that.
And what I tell myself is, I don't have time.
I do have time.
If I can hit 100 scrolls every day, I have time, bro.
I have time.
But I have a hunch that a lot of the Zerky Show fam already knows why this is difficult.
Intentionality.
Oh, my God.
This episode is Breastrian.
Brought to you by FedEx.
These days, the power move isn't having a big metallic credit card to drop on the check at a corporate launch.
The real power move is leveling up your business with FedEx intelligence.
And accessing one of the biggest data networks powered by one of the biggest delivery networks.
Level up your business with FedEx, the new power move.
Intentionality is like it's level 100.
boss. It is the crux of the generation. It is the Achilles heel of Gen Z. It is difficult because
there is no incentive for it. There is none. It is entirely a battle of delayed gratification.
Being intentional is difficult when you can receive probably a comparable amount of dopamine
from this thing right here. Why would you be intentional with your time when you have a device
that can spend the time for you.
It can curate whatever you want to see for you.
I don't blame us.
No, they're not like us.
No, they are like us.
Everyone who feels this kind of pull to these devices and feels like, oh, like, I'm so upset
that I'm not being intentional.
It's hard.
It's so difficult.
Don't feel bad.
Instead, you got to learn how to respect your time.
And you got to learn that.
Like that, a lot of that will be boredom.
It will be you being very bored.
It will be you going on a bike ride.
That's going to be like a lot of it.
It's going to be a lot of time that honestly would probably sometimes be better spent on your phone.
You'd probably get more of a, you know, from it.
But it's a trade-off.
Because when you start to respect your time and you start to understand it more,
you become very grateful for the experience that you have.
You become very grateful for the memories that you make with people.
You become very grateful that you have the discipline
and you have the understanding to be able to separate the time
where you use your phone and separate the time where you spend it with loved ones
and you spend it doing the things you like.
Right now it's kind of a mesh.
We're kind of all doing the same thing of like,
we don't have a balance and I think that the grassroots start of finding that balance
learn to respect your time so if you feel like in 2024 you wasted a lot of time you misused it
you did a lot of this and not a lot of this learn to respect your time it won't happen overnight
you will battle with yourself it's a it's a habit it's dopamine bro this is
