Starting point is 00:00:00 I think this obsession with locking in, especially like for our generation, is a symptom of a bigger problem. There is an insane amount of guilt and shame that comes with wasting time. Everybody tells you stop wasting time. Everybody tells you how insane it is that you are in your 20s, you are in the prime of your life, and all you do is scroll. But why are we wasting time? Well, are we wasting time? There's a lot of questions that come with it.
Starting point is 00:00:32 And I think that the reason we feel like we waste time and you actually consuming a bunch of media versus watching one piece feels so empty is because there is no intentionality with the way you are spending your time. Your time is being spent for you. And I believe that a key in not wasting any more time and stopping this habit is,
Starting point is 00:01:00 realizing that time is passing and what it feels like for time to pass. You need to build a relationship with time. Time running away is easy. It's a living this heart. You know, I like that song a lot, funny enough. That's like an old throwback. But time needs to be felt. I know that sounds like, Unk, what are you, what are you on? Feeling time? Pause. Resume.
Starting point is 00:01:33 You need to do things that take up time that you willingly want to do to recognize how time is valuable. That means not being stimulated and actually making a decision to do something because you want to do it. Whether that is media, whether that is hanging out with somebody, it's not being roped in to another person's agency. it's having your own agency and making a decision to join in this is i think the problem everybody is
Starting point is 00:02:06 waiting for things to happen everybody is wanting to be a part of plans nobody wants to initiate them i think a lot of us are just living in the waiting room of our own lives we are waiting for the good things to happen we believe that doing conventional things in our you know lives that will bring in extraordinary lifestyle. No. It doesn't. RBC Training Ground has discovered potential in over 20,000 Canadian athletes and counting.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Your story could be next. If you've got the drive, they'll help you find your path to the Olympics. Let's see what you've got. Sign up for free at rbc trainingground.ca. You kind of need to take more agency over your time. And if nobody is hitting up your phone to make plans, you need to make the plans.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Or the plans have to be you, hanging out with yourself. When was the last time that you felt like it was okay to just like hang out with yourself? And making a conscious decision to do so. Not because, you know, you are feeling like the friend group that invites you actually hates you secretly. Not because, you know, you had plans and they fell through. you had an open day where you could do anything and you recognize you could do anything and you have decided I am sitting with myself. I'm hanging out with myself. I'm working on this painting. I'm going for a walk. I'm going to a coffee shop that sells $12 lattes because why not? That's a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:03:50 $12 latte. Sheesh. I mean, maybe there's like goat's milk or something in it. I don't know. but this is a relationship with your time that a lot of people have lost. There is a very dangerous association with spending time alone being lonely in our generation, that that is a lonesome. And I think that spending too much time alone isn't a good idea. You've got to socialize. You've got to get out there. Even when you feel tired, sometimes those are the best times when you go and you kick it with your friends.
Starting point is 00:04:23 and they energize you and they motivate you and they inspire you. But you also need to get rid of the empty space. Stop wasting time. Don't create this empty space for yourself. Create alone time. Create time to recover and chill. But be intentional. Do not just let this time kind of be fumbled into nothing.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I think that's what a lot of these old heads are talking about with wasting time. I think if you spend a good day alone, if you spend a good day doing things that actually make you happy, even if that is just like chilling in bed and eating a family bag of checks mix and like hanging out and go in and get in some food and like kicking it and just intentionally relaxing. And not putting the pressure on yourself that like, man, oh man, I wanted to do all this, but I'm a loser. I'm a loser. I mean, I just waste all my time. It's the attitude. It's the attitude. It's the toil. And I've been battling with this all of my life. I still battle with this, the idea that I waste time and I just get sucked in to something that I otherwise would have not been a part of because I have this empty space
Starting point is 00:05:53 and I don't tell myself, okay, I got like 15 minutes here. I can like sit down, kind of like gather my thoughts, and then I can head out the door and like be on it. Instead, it's like, oh, I got 15 minutes and nothing, so I'm just going to like find something to, you know, get, oh, I'm going to watch this. Okay, and then I'm going to scroll here. And then it's like an hour has passed. Stop wasting time.
Starting point is 00:06:18 It is the most precious asset you have as a young person. It is the most precious thing that we have. I don't think. you need to be ultra-productive. You don't need to be a grind-set stigma. That's not what I'm saying. Don't get it confused. I'm just saying, treat that time with respect. 15 minutes is a lot of time. 10 minutes is a lot of time. Five minutes is a lot of time. You've taken an exam before. You start an exam. You're like, you know, skipping over the questions you don't know, which is half of the exam. And then you look up and it's only been 10 minutes and you're like, what is going on? I am cooked.
Starting point is 00:06:54 And I'm going to get kicked out of my house, but whatever. You know, it's all the perception. How do you perceive your time? It's also how do you perceive your time in terms of value? Do you think your time is valuable? Is it valuable enough to help out another human being, one of your friends? Is it valuable enough to give yourself time to do something good for yourself, to watch a movie that you've wanted to watch for a while?
Starting point is 00:07:27 to sit down and journal for an hour, even though you're so busy. You're so busy, but if you respected your time, you definitely know that you could find an hour of it, 100%. And I know that because I consider myself a busy person, but I see how I work and I can be honest with myself, and I waste time. I waste time. There is freedom in recognizing that your time matters and that the time with your loved ones, the time with yourself, the time where you have a wide array of choice
Starting point is 00:08:08 and possibility matters. And I believe that when you are young and you have a lot of energy and you have this drive to do something, wasting it on people that don't care about you, on things that are just trying to toy with your emotions and on expectations of other people, what they have on you. For a lot of us, that's our parents, right? What do our parents want? What job does my dad want me to have so I get his approval? What things should I, like, what kind of partner do I need to get so my mom thinks I'm worthy
Starting point is 00:08:48 as a human being? Stop. These things are not, these things are not you. You can concern yourself with them, but at the end of the day, it is a choice. and don't fool yourself into thinking it's not. I can't do it. No, I can't, you know, go on my own and do my own thing. I mean, you can.
Starting point is 00:09:20 You can. Because people before you have, I'm doing it right now. Did I deal with expectations? Of course. Of course, I still deal with them, but I know what matters more than expectations, and that's my happiness. and if I'm content and my fulfillment, because I'm not happy all the time, but I'm fulfilled.
Starting point is 00:09:51 Need a vehicle that isn't afraid to make a splash? That's the Volkswagen Touse. And you might feel like, what's the point? It's not wasting time. I'm just existing. And listen, I get it. I get it. And if you're happy and you're content with that, I'm not one to sit here and try to explain that it's not that way, right? Like, it's cool. But if you are living in this way and you are craving something more and you do not feel fulfilled, and you feel like you want a purpose and you want more,
