I urge you to be a nerd.
I urge you to be interested in something.
I dare you to have the guts to stand in front of a room of people and nerd out.
You need to nerd out.
We are losing one of the most important human things I believe that society has given birth to over time.
And that is the ability to be an expert, to be a savant, to be a nerd.
about a topic.
Sadly, we don't learn from each other anymore.
And some of my favorite people growing up, they were nerds.
They were people who were obsessed about a certain thing,
whether that was go-goes, bay blades,
Pokemon cards, or even an obscure type of music
from the 70s from a communist country.
I don't care what it is that gives you a spark
that makes you feel good if that is watching a new season of Invincible,
if that is finding a super, super low-key kind of fit
from a bunch of random brands that no one's ever heard of.
We need you to be a nerd if you are someone who draws,
if you are someone who is artistic,
if you are somebody who just cares.
People are nonchalant.
People want to act like they are just with the times, man.
Whatever is cool is cool.
They're wearing a luboo on their deep-pop jeans
and they call it a day and they go to a macher rave.
That's cool, too.
That's a form of being a nerd, I guess.
Some people could argue that's over consumption and consumerism.
All right, fair.
But I think it's really over consumption when you do not care about where the thing that you like,
you are embodying as part of your personality comes from.
People are just wearing NPC skins and calling it a day.
and that's fine.
You have the right to do that.
I'm not going to act like you need to have a specific, you know,
oh, you need to have this cultivated personality.
It doesn't matter.
Who gives a stigma at the end of the day?
Nobody does.
When a country's productivity cycle is broken,
people feel it in their paychecks,
their communities, their futures.
What does this mean for individuals,
communities, and businesses across the country?
Join business leaders, policymakers, and influencers.
For CGs national series on the Canadian
standard of living, productivity and innovation. Learn what's driving Canada's productivity decline
and discover actionable solutions to reverse it. But all I'm saying is you are missing out on one of the
most human experiences, one of the most character building, beautiful realizations about this life,
and that is building meaning. A lot of us that nerd out about things, we nerd out because there is
meaning behind the reason we nerd out.
We nerd out because we like it,
whatever it is, right?
Certain anime, a certain
type of artist. I nerd out
about daft punk because I like daft punk.
You nerd out about it because it
inspires you. It gives you a certain
kind of joy. It makes you want to create
something. Something that somebody else has made
makes you want to go
out and make your own thing.
You nerd out
because you
love it. And love is one of those things that a lot of people try to put their fingers in and,
and wait what? Try to figure out what it is. But at the end of the day, you can't really describe it.
It's just something that you get attached to and you can't let go and it becomes a part of your
life. And no matter what happens, you will unconditionally support and appreciate it for what
It is you need to nerd out.
The other option is that you just, you just are a shell.
You kind of go with what other people tell you is cool.
What other people tell you is the right way of thinking or the right way of existing.
And you lose your sense of self.
And I understand it's important to be a part of a group.
And like, obviously I don't want to isolate myself to the point where I can't, you know,
befriend anybody because I'm so stuck in my ways, right?
But man, when's the last time you met somebody who had so much knowledge in another topic?
They were so interested in the Premier League.
They were so interested in a certain kind of Lego mock building, you know, style.
They were super interested in, I don't know, a tuplev.
Do you know what a tuplev is?
Man, come on.
Don't even get me started on airplanes.
Nerds.
Nerds are the ones that stay around.
Nerds are the ones that are able to build things like this,
and they're able to engineer things like this,
and they're able to give thought into a society.
You have to find something you're passionate about.
You have to find something that you love.
And it's hard.
It's very hard.
Because there are so many things to do now.
Back in the day, there was like, you know,
your dad worked in a...
stained glass factory, you did stain glass and you just kind of found your outlet that way.
And yes, there is this analysis paralysis with what we have in life, but we all have things
that we know we're attracted to and we like, you know, for some people, that might be streaming.
For other people, it might be sketching.
For some of you, it might be, I don't know, cooking.
It might be baking.
There are these things that call your name.
You don't know why, but they do.
And some of those things might be a little bit more obscure.
Maybe not a lot of people do it,
and that makes you feel guilty for liking them,
because what everybody likes is contrary to what you like,
and maybe you've gotten made fun of for it.
And as somebody who's gotten roasted,
plenty of times in the past for what he liked
and what he was interested in,
all I'm going to tell you is that the more you're able to,
nerd out and care and focus on the things that you genuinely love and that inspire you,
the better your life will be.
Because somebody who hates on another person's joy, especially when it's in good faith
and it has good intentions, it's not a person who's happy.
That's a person who doesn't even know what to do with their own life.
Are you really going to listen to somebody like that?
I know I'm not going to.
And trust me, time's going to fly by.
It's really, really fast.
It's really, really quick.
And the less time you spend nerding out and enjoying and being a geek about these things,
you are going to regret not doing so.
You will.
You'll look back in time and the thought in your mind will not be like,
oh, yeah, that was so cool that I impressed all of my friends
for buying this one specific type of clothing and wearing it all the time.
you're going to wish that you had expressed yourself in a way that was honest and authentic to you.
The internet is your friend for that.
You have so much in terms of so many resources, so many forums, and forget the internet.
People find people who are also nerds.
Maybe not about the same thing that you're a nerd about, but just who have passion.
Because oftentimes, real recognizes real, like someone who's a nerd,
nerds out all the time, they will help you nerd out.
They will also want to learn and they will also want to be engaged in the communities that
you're engaged in and the things that you're engaged in.

I'm just done with this nonchalant stuff.
I get it. It's hard. It's hard to think for yourself. It is and it takes more time. And I think that for a lot of us, it's just ruining any chances of building something yourself and having your own personality and having your own interests. And like in a world where you're already expected to go to school, come home after school, go and work for the rest of your life, like you need something.
You just need something, and that's something you should be a nerd about.
And we don't need a nerd off.
Like, if you are interested in something, if you're a geek about something, that's more than enough.
You don't need to be an expert on it.
You can just like it.
I can't tell you, you know, the exact amount of horsepower, one of those Rolls-Royce engines gives on a 787, you know.
But what I can tell you is that I like them and they're cool and I like the inside and I like how they look.
I can't tell you, you know, how many miles per hour, you know, a 747 flies, but I like the way they look.
And that's enough for me to nerd out.
And I like the way in which things are.
I can't tell you when this parliament building was built here in Budapest, but I like it.
I'm a nerd about it.
And maybe after I'm done, I'll go and find out when it was built.
curiosity
we have lost curiosity
people just don't want to be curious anymore
they just kind of go with it
like all right whatever
oh cool yeah whatever
ask questions
why do you even like the stuff that you like
why does it matter to you
are you interested in motorcycles
because that's what you're supposed to do
or is it because your dad wrote a motorcycle
and you guys would go on motorcycle rides together
and that's how you spent time.
Do you like the manga that you're reading
because it reminds you of somebody.
It reminds you of a failed relationship.
I don't know.
You know, I don't judge, but like, dude, nerd out about it.
Go deep into the topics that matter.
Go and explore them and explore what you want within them.
You don't have to know everything about it,
but dude, if you are interested,
in something, whether that's makeup,
whether that's, I don't know,
a certain type of violin playing,
like learn.
Learn.
Build knowledge in that thing.
We're losing knowledge.
We're losing the exchange of people doing really incredible things.
We need it.
Your art, we need it.
I know you don't think it's good,
but we probably, somebody is going to get inspired by it,
whether you like it or not.
Somebody's going to look at it and be like, I want to do that.
That looks cool.
We need you in front of the camera, if you feel called to,
like, become a nerd about it.
Study it.
Why? Because I studied.
You know what I mean?
Like, that's why I like doing what I do.
And these quirks that oftentimes are the ones that we get made fun of when we're young,
Those are the quirks that make us a person.
And so much of my life, I spent trying to appease people that, quite frankly, they didn't even know who they were.
I thought that I needed to be cool in order to be accepted.
I needed to blend in in order to feel like I was a part of something.
And when I got there and I hung out with the crowd that seemed cool and popular, like they were some of the most insecure, nervous, anxious people I have.
ever met. You don't want that. Maybe you do. Hey, sometimes you got to burn your hand on the stove,
you know, I won't judge that. But if you're a nerd and you have passion and you love the things,
media, art that you just can't live without in your life, nerd out about it, nerd out about it,
talk to friends about it, talk to your parents about it, bro. If they don't want to listen,
find people who will.
Find people who share the joy
about these small things
because that will make your life exponentially better.
We often focus on so many big things
to make us happy,
but honestly a lot of happiness
comes from the present.
And I think a lot of people are really, really upset
because they don't have things to look forward to
and I get it. It's a hard life.
It's a hard life.
Find things to enjoy in it.
Be a nerd. Be a geek.
You know?
Go on
Genius
On your favorite song
And find out who wrote it
Because you want to be a songwriter
Get in
In depth
With the things that matter
If you like an old type of architecture
Dude save up
Go on a trip
To Paris to Budapest
To Prague
To Krakuf
Like go out
And make these things happen
And like
Invest in being a nerd
Oh, I shouldn't, you know, read that comic.
Like, read it.
Find a way, you know.
I don't care how you do it.
You know, do it legally.
But, you know what I'm saying?
Like, find a way to do what it is.
You're going to be nonchalant for the rest of your life.
Really?
Really.
Have fun.
That's what I'm going to tell.
Have fun.
And it's okay to have fear in, like, showing your nerdiness to people.
And that's normal, you know?
I'm not going to.
act like you need to be super outgoing with with your passions and the things that you like man
if you want to do it in private do it in private but nevertheless like find those people
that you can be a nerd with changes your life it makes you realize that you're really not alone
in the way that you think and you're really not alone in what you're passionate about just because
you go to a small school and everyone else is interested in I don't know football and basketball
and like influencer drama
and you're just super, super interested
in like old calligraphy or, I don't know,
building bridges, something cool.
Like, the nerds exist out there.
You just, it's kind of like in Minecraft
when you don't have your full, like,
you have a map in Minecraft and you haven't like explored it all the way.
That's what's going on.
You just need to explore and find these people.
And you can look at it as like,
my gosh, they don't exist.
And like, I'll never find my tribe.
Or you can look at it as maybe it's a journey.
Maybe the people that you meet along the way, like the journey going to find those people,
it's going to bring you a lot of joy.
It's going to bring you a lot of confidence.
And it's going to make you feel very, very worthy.
I remember when I, you know, in my hometown, I didn't have many people who were interested in the same stuff I was interested in.
I had to leave.
I had to move.
I had to go.
but I knew at the end of the day
I needed to find other nerds.
That's what it was.
So I was like, if I'm going to nerd out,
I got to go out and find these people.
There's a good chance you've got to do the same thing.
If I had not nerded out,
I wouldn't be here in front of you.
I wouldn't be here in Budapest.
I wouldn't be happy.
If I had not nerded out,
I wouldn't have been happy.
I saw a quote that I love
And it's to be cringe is to be free
And you know what?
If nerding out is being cringe
Then I am one of the most free people on this earth
I am
Because I don't mind being a nerd
I don't mind being cringe
Yeah I mean sure
Somebody can look at it and think
Oh that's weird
Like why do you do that in public
Oh why would you wear like
You know a catbug shit
shirt. It's like, dude, because I have references, I have things that I love, I have things that,
you know, just bring me so much joy and they put a smile on my face. My favorite cartoon is
chowder, okay? I grew up on that. I love chowder. I own a chowder hat. You know what I mean?
I'm a nerd about these things. I'm a nerd about things from my childhood. I'm a nerd about things
from adulthood. Like, I don't care. Oh, you're going to lose aura, bro.
If you talk about, bro, you talk about that, you're going to lose aura.
That's the problem.
Nobody talks about anything.
Anything.
You go up to somebody, it's like, oh, what are you interested in?
Dubai Chocolate Macha Rave.
I mean, that's cool.
All right, respect.
You know, hey, that's already a plus, but usually it's like, nothing really.
Like, I don't know.
I like sports.
Okay, that's sick.
What's your favorite team?
I don't know.
Okay.
Like, where's the passion?
Where's the passion for being a human?
Where has it gone, Zerky Show?
Where has it gone?
I don't see it anymore.
It's probably because we're all tired and we're overworked
and we're worrying about more important things and that's valid.
But you know what?
Being in Europe and being in a different,
a different city, a different place, different continent.
I've realized that like a lot of, a lot of people in Europe, a lot of older people, they're,
they're all nerds.
I guess what I'm trying to tell you is just be very mindful about the things that you like.
Because that's one of the, it's one of the last things in modern society that we kind of have
control over, in a way, if we want to.
You can totally not.
You can mindlessly just be interested in things and trends.
And I'm not going to sit here and dog you for it because I don't think it's a production.
productive use of time.
It's like, that's cool.
If you like what's trending, that's dope.
You know, there's nothing wrong with that.
I have nothing against that.
But if there's something inside you that tells you, like, you want to learn about things
and you want to be more knowledgeable about things,
but you're afraid of how you're going to be perceived by other people for it,
I just want you to know that, like, the people that would judge you for nerding out,
they're losers they're losers I wish there was a nicer way of saying it they are losers don't spend
your life trying to impress losers and people who just are not worth your time and maybe okay maybe
losers is like a very very strong way of saying it but all the people that made fun of me for
who I was and what I was interested in and how passionate I was about
the things that I was passionate about, they have all circled back and they all admire how passionate
and how loving of the things that bring me joy I am. I think that's some food for thought.
Be a nerd. Be a nerd. Be somebody who is outspoken about the things that you love. Be somebody
who is always looking for new recommendations, new media, and be somebody who has opinions.
nerd out
nerd out
don't be nonchalant
don't live your life for other people
be passionate
and be unapologetically you
because the minute that you start looking
how am I going to be perceived
oh what are people going to think of me
you lose the plot
you lose the plot
and I promise you you're going to lose yourself
and the opinion of other people
Today's episode of the Zirky Show was filmed in Budapest, Hungary.
I have loved my time in Budapest.
I love Hungary.
Huge shout out to this city.
It is beautiful.
I mean, look at what's behind me, bro.
Man, love Europe.
If you're ever in Hungary, come to Budapest.
It is worth your time.
I promise you that.
Did you know that the Zerky Show is everywhere you go?
That is correct.
You can watch it.
You can scroll.
You can stream it.
The choice is yours.
So if you want to tap in, tap in.
Do the things that bring you joy again.
Be passionate.
Be a nerd.
Find other people who care about the same things as you.
It's the little things in life that are really worth living it for.
Other than that, if you're trying something new, just know I believe in you.
And as always, Zirky Show, I am sending you lots of love.
And peace.
