Starting point is 00:00:23 you know what, I'm going to lock in, I'm going to do all these things. When it gets tough, you recognize that it's not easy, and you still do it regardless. I think a lot of us love to get hyped up on the idea of change and being a new person, but let's be so for real when it comes to the moments where we feel uncomfortable, when we feel like we're not good enough and that we won't be able to change and we're stuck the way that we are.
Starting point is 00:00:48 We're so easily convinced to give everything up, even if we've been a little bit consistent, even if we feel like we've been doing good. It's so easy to just say, Nah. I'm throwing in the towel. I got a DM the other day from a listener, and she expressed concern about her current place in life. She moved to a new big city, like Toronto behind me, Tham. I'm so frozen. I can't even speak. Look, I'm all red. And she was talking about how she's feeling a little bit of FOMO because her friends stayed back in her hometown. They went to like a college nearby. They're having a blast, and she feels alone. It was an interesting DM because it reminded me a lot of my time when I left to go to a big, you know, university. All of my friends stayed in the hometown that I grew up in and I kind of felt alone. Change is not easy.
Starting point is 00:01:48 And change oftentimes means that you will have pain. You are going to face the person that you once were and have to actively say, no, I'm not going to be that person. that's not easy. It's painful. But pain means growth. You know growing pains, right? When you were younger, you would feel them in your shoulders and your legs. It was like all weird.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Well, the same thing happens with us as adults. When we move through serious challenges, especially with who we are as people. Grieving is painful. But you learn from it. Some mistakes can be painful. Again, you learn from it. Regret. Oh, one of the worst pains of them all, right?
Starting point is 00:02:41 You still learn from it. If you feel alone right now, it doesn't mean you're going to be alone forever. And on the contrary, I don't think you should look at the fact that things are a little bit weird right now. My tripod was about to blow away. Did you guys see that? It was crazy. You shouldn't look at these things as signs that it's only going to get worse. Because all you have right now with these experiences is what you are going through at this moment. The more that you catastrophize, what can happen? Well, if I feel lonely right now, I'm only going to feel more terrible
Starting point is 00:03:25 as time changes. Yeah, if you stay the same. And this is kind of the response that I had to the DM that I got, you have to exhaust all the options. And rarely do people like that answer because it's true. And it's kind of the ugly truth. If you want to make something work, you have to put it into your own hands. Starting point is 00:04:14 Concern about your gambling or that if someone close to you, call 1-6-3-212, or visit connexontera.ca. It's never too early to plan your summer's story in Europe with WestJet from rolling countryside to cobblestone streets. Begin your next chapter. Starting point is 00:04:31 WestJet, where your story takes off. Welcome aboard via rail. Please sit and enjoy. Please sit and sip. Play. Post. Taste. View and enjoy.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Via Rail, love the way. And you have to create an upside for yourself. And that is rarely easy. If anything, it means doing the things that make you uncomfortable. If you're in a new place, it means starting conversations first. If you are somebody that is working out more, it's about keeping yourself accountable for your diet. Like, you have to recognize where the pain is coming from and find a way to work against it. Find a way to kind of address it and be like, okay, I am, I am lonely.
Starting point is 00:05:23 I do feel alone. I also really want to act. I'm going to start looking for an acting class. I'm going to start looking for people who also love what I love. And if you love standing in the freezing cold of Toronto, Canada, then we can be best friends right now, because this is crazy. I'm on Ward Island. Ward's Island.
Starting point is 00:05:51 And you know what? Besides the blistering cold, this place is so awesome. Because you can have a picture-perfect view of the planes that are landing here. Look at that. That's on the island. This is landing on the island right there, that plane that's behind me. Crazy. It's also beautiful at the sunset. It's a wonderful little spot if you're ever in Toronto come out here. Actually, the reason that it's Ward's island is because Ward was a man who lived here with his family. And one day, Ward's family, his, I think his wife and his daughter went out to sea and they drowned in the crossing. They, like, sailed and drowned. And so he dedicated the rest of his life to helping sailors and making sure that he could, you know, keep them in his memory.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Really sweet. Shouts out to Ward one time. Nothing changes without pain. You have to feel the pain. The pain of staying the same, the pain of being stagnant. The pain of realizing that if you don't take yourself seriously, your life is going to, breeze you by and you're not going to do anything with it, it's normal to feel out of place, especially when you make such a big decision. It's not going to be easy right away.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Rarely have I ever made a choice and it's been like, oh, yay, right away, I'm accepted and it's great and everything's goaded. No, man, you have to fight for it. You do. But it's about learning from that and enjoying that fight and enjoying that discomfort man when i moved across the country and i didn't know anybody the discomfort i had walking around being like where am i and i had nobody that i could just like pop into to have coffee or tea on some european vibes no i was alone it was beautiful because i had to figure something out and that that is the human spirit is knowing that things are bad and you still find a way. What if that journey for you is what could empower you and could give you evidence that you are, you're dope, you're really cool. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:08:13 You can solve problems for yourself as an adult. That's something that even adults that are in their 60, 70s haven't learned. It will not be easy. So don't make it harder for yourself. You don't have to go through fake suffering in order to learn something. No, just go through life. And when a challenge arises, face it head on. Invite it. Be like this can be something I can learn from and I'm going to enjoy every single second of it, even if it's kind of a lot. Even if it makes me feel lonely and it makes me feel self-conscious and it makes me feel less of as a human being. And if it makes me challenge all my ideals of a relationship and what I want for myself. You know what I'm still going to do it. Because why not learn? And you will have FOMO. If you're doing something difficult
Starting point is 00:09:11 and you're separating yourself from your friends, you will have FOMO. You will have days where you wonder, what if I didn't do this? Would I have been happier? What if I traveled abroad? And I lived out of a van in Shenzhen, China, would I be happy? What if I move to Australia for the rest of my life? What if, what if, what if? Okay, when I sell my business, I want the best tax and investment advice. I want to help my kids, and I want to give back to the community. Ooh, then it's the vacation of a lifetime.
Starting point is 00:09:44 I wonder if my out of office has a forever setting. Starting point is 00:11:26 You lived it, you did it. You're alive, you're here. That's what this is about. The opportunities that you wasted, so what? The chances that left you? All right, there'll be another one. If you think in this kind of mindset that like, man, I'm cooking it for myself and I'm not doing anything to make my case better,
Starting point is 00:11:56 then it won't be. So I really urge you. Think about where you're at right now in life. Think about what you're doing. And if you are challenged and you do feel, man, like alone, scared, you're regretting your choice a little bit because it's hard. Recognize that nothing changes without pain. Starting point is 00:13:31 it makes you realize how good warmth is. So enjoy it. And there's also something beautiful about the light of the snow and how the sun sets in a wonderful manner in cold climates. Maybe that's just me romanticizing it.
