Starting point is 00:00:00 Look, cycling is the best person doesn't always win or the most deserved person doesn't always win. It is a game of chance oftentimes. But there are times where you say, wow, that person deserved to win. I mean, she did it all. Today, boomstick, KLC. KLC. KLC, you got a new nickname.
Starting point is 00:00:18 And we love that you Boston, balled out, won. Here we go. Good morning, everybody. Welcome back to the MOVE podcast. I'm Lance Armstrong. joined by Mari and Allison. By the way,
Starting point is 00:00:39 we haven't talked about the Abilene police. They are still calling, looking for their streetside. Well, good luck. They know where to find us.
Starting point is 00:00:48 It's a period of amnesty here where you can avoid prosecution. Aspen's a safe place. It's like Switzerland, right? It is like Switzerland. Keys in the car, walk or don't lock your bike. We're all good.
Starting point is 00:01:00 We are talking about stage six. about the Tour de France fam of X Swift. Mel, what do we do? Stage six, from Mombisson to Tourna on Sorenon. Mombrian to Tornon-Soron-Sorone. Oh, had a little pause in the second one there. I don't know why. And it doesn't matter if it's Alain, if it's Mel,
Starting point is 00:01:25 it just never gets old. Alan's good. Mel's a little better, I think. Well, she's got, you know, this has worked out perfect. She's got some flair. She's got some flair. Kim LaC-K-L-C, as I have dubbed her. I've just dubbed her this morning.
Starting point is 00:01:40 I love watching bike races where, look, cycling is the best person doesn't always win or the most deserved person doesn't always win. It is a game of chance oftentimes, but there are times where you say, wow, that person deserved to win. I mean, she did it all. I mean, all the way to the end, Bridges. a one minute gap, did all the work when she got into that break, and then wins the sprint and it holds off.
Starting point is 00:02:09 Puck, Peters. Yep. She said, puck tried to come around. She said, you don't you go puck yourself. And a bike change. No puck's here. And she went on a spare bike. I think that's, I mean, the entire, her entire ride, and she was so calm and cool.
Starting point is 00:02:25 And her post race interview was almost like, yeah, this is what's the way I drew it up. Yeah, she just knew what she had to do. And that was her plan. and she executed. And she's been trying every day. I mean, we knew that she had a stage finish in her, like a win. I know she wanted to get back in the yellow. Last year, she was in the yellow for several days.
Starting point is 00:02:42 You know, first African to win a monument. She's won Léje, Bastogne Léje. She obviously won stages last year in the tour. But incredible, incredible finish for her. And I think so well deserved. So deserved. So deserved. The pride of Mauritius.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Mauritius. And, you know, we were talking about it earlier. You're going to plan a training camp out there. I know. I have to be a little careful because we got going on. Right here. Look at this, Lance. I mean, I see that and I'm like, okay, Kim.
Starting point is 00:03:08 That's where you're from. Yeah, 1-800, Lance is in. Pretty wild. I mean, grow up on an island like that, a very small, remote island. I think it's an Indian Ocean. Probably more famous for surfing and water sports. And, of course, I love the jersey because the jersey is so similar to the World Champions Jersey. If you look at it, you're like, she changed it this year a little bit. She put a little twist on it.
Starting point is 00:03:37 But to come from such a remote place, which we see more and more, I think, now in cycling, it's just so cool. And she's such a deserving. What a boss. Well, we think we have a long ways to go when Americans, you know, get into the world tour and stuff that they're not living at home. I can't even imagine, like, being that far away. It's wild. No. And, you know, she has a very interesting story. I mean, at the age of 27, she's calling every professional team begging for a job and then she does end up getting signed and then ends up being in the yellow jersey the tour to France to bomb Abex with last year winning liege bestone liege and then she has
Starting point is 00:04:11 this other freaky she says that hunger sets her apart like she's such a hard worker she's such a baller of a rider land so that's what you were saying when we were watching it right before we hopped on like total baller move but apparently she had like a 10% chance of living she got bit by a spider in Madagascar when she was like three years old, goes to a coma. They have her parents come in and tell her goodbye. Like her brother needs, like her brother says goodbye. And she ends up surviving. So she has some hunger in there.
Starting point is 00:04:39 There's some demons she's chasing, I think. As I was watching today, I thought, I mean, you would have taken so much effort. By the way, she was in what was left of the main field. She and I'm flicking the name. At least Alongo Burgini? No, the Dutch rider who should bridge across with. Marcus. To bridge across one minute is incredibly hard, so you think, okay, but now what?
Starting point is 00:05:07 And then not only did she do that, she immediately went straight to the front and tried to attack again. And then other attacks are going. She was chasing them down, chasing them down. I'm watching this thinking, you know what? Let's just save a little bit. Because in cycling, sometimes you just have to roll the dice and let one of these goes and other people go and hope that others chase them down. No, she didn't do that. She took all the work, all the burden, and not only did she win the sprint, she won the sprint from the front.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Yeah. That's just 10 out of 10. You have to win. But that's what we saw. And we didn't even know at that point. I mean, we were thinking she was using a lot of energy without even knowing that she had to chase back on a spare bike and that she caught basically at the top of that climb when the break went. And then that's why the gap went out. And then she attacked with Marcus.
Starting point is 00:05:52 I mean, that was wild. Yeah. And we didn't even know about it. It's a spare bike part. That just, I don't know. I think maybe I'm weird and I was just so finicky about my equipment and I would have a race bike that was absolutely perfect. And the spare bike, no matter what, no matter how, I mean, the measurements could be exact.
Starting point is 00:06:14 The seat could feel the same. The handle bar angle was the same. I got on it and it was like having two left shoes on. It just never felt right for her to just grab that thing, bridge across. I mean, it's so impressive. She had one thing on her mind, and that was the win, and she did it. Good for her. Speaking of efforts, I think we were all sort of scratching our head, which I think maybe I have the answer to this on what Demi Volnerner was doing.
Starting point is 00:06:40 I don't think if you're Demi, this is not a risk for you. The race is tomorrow. Lambo's not a risk, in my opinion. Kim LaCourt's not a risk, in my opinion. But she went to the front and was riding that. on the front alone of that group behind with the yellow jersey on her wheel. My girl, let the Maya Joan. Let the doctor do some pulls.
Starting point is 00:07:07 She didn't, though. I don't know why. I know. We all watched them. We're scratching her heads because it made me. I think she feels incredible. When I said, I think I know the answers. I think she is extremely confident.
Starting point is 00:07:18 So she's just, it's a worry, like wasting too much energy. I think is long to. It doesn't, it doesn't care what you think. That climb. It doesn't. So, but I think she clearly feels great, super confident. Well, she looks great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:34 I mean, she makes it look easy. And, you know, maybe you don't have to ride that hard. I mean, it's not as if she was on the front going full gas. She's, that's some sort of moderated effort. And you know, just keep them out there, right? I think she looks good. Yeah. But.
Starting point is 00:07:51 She's the one to be for sure. She's definitely going to be the one to be tomorrow. So tomorrow, I guess you said, on two times. Doesn't lie right there. No. We'll see. No, that one doesn't lie. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Pauline in that front group.
Starting point is 00:08:04 I was worried that, and she was, she was very sort of vulnerable in her post-race interviews. She said, look, it's over, right? This is, I don't have it. And the tour's over for me. When somebody says that, kind of the next step is you see them in the groupetto the next day. and their next job is just to sort of honor the, you know, the fact that you're defending the title and finish the actual race. But I was surprised to see her up there. I thought it was great.
Starting point is 00:08:36 I have some high hopes for her tomorrow. I really do. You keep saying that. I know. I think it would be. I'm sticking with it. That'd be a hell of a story. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:43 It would just be nice to see her have a good ride, like a solid ride tomorrow, you know, come back from this first part of the race. I mean, I think winning is probably going to be a challenge. But, like, you know, I think just having a good solid ride would be great to see. One other person that was missing today and lost more time was Anna Vanderbrigan, which I think is interesting. Speaking of group photos. Because I kind of thought the two of them might be riding somewhere together. Yeah. And Van der Bergen was dropped with Voss pretty early on.
Starting point is 00:09:12 They got back. And then, yeah, yeah. It was Basta. Basta. Basta. Basta pasta. Pasta. The, we talked a little bit in the first week here about the, the, the, the,
Starting point is 00:09:24 coverage and of course the coverage is no matter who is streaming the race they're really at the mercy of ASO and when they actually are delivered the feed right it's not as if whether it's peacock or some other international carrier they they start showing the race when they get the feed and there's some of these days they've been they've been streaming from the very from kilometer zero which of course we prefer i did see an interview um with marian ruse who said she's really pushing for extended time and more streaming time. And I think that's just in line with what we're saying. It's going to be a good thing.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Yeah. Yeah. The more we can watch the race, the better it goes. Right. And so I think... Well, we don't, us watching it doesn't change the race. That's true. That's actually...
Starting point is 00:10:10 That would be something. Allie's mental telepathy going on. Bucking didn't win today. Some place will be disappointed. This podcast is a big deal. Oh, you know, as a matter of fact, it's such a big deal that just when we watch. Just when we watch. Which is, of course, not true.
Starting point is 00:10:26 We have nothing to do with that. But I think I've been getting some complaints, Lance, for no boomstick. But I think today, boomstick, KLC. KLC. KLC, you got a new nickname. And we love that you Boston, balled out, won. Here we go. Everything.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Move of the day. Move of the day. All of it. All of it. Boomstick. KLC. We're proud of you. And you were.
Starting point is 00:10:51 debating, or are you really wanting, actually, to wear your Puck Peter's shirt or something around here that... I do. Honors Pat. You named your cat. The picture of the cat is above me, by the way. So, Blaz is in mourning. Blaise is in mourning. His favorite rider did not win, so I did not wear the shirt.
Starting point is 00:11:12 But I did dive into some of those facts. The education piece. The education. And according to the Cyclist Association, the Union, that they have the TCA. about 86% of the current women's peloton have advanced degrees. That's amazing. That is the exact opposite of the men's palaton. And as a matter of, so that would mean then that 14% of the men's peloton has some sort of advanced degree.
Starting point is 00:11:38 I think that would be high. Yeah. I think I'd agree with you. Yeah. I mean, I'm not. It's just just what it is. But I had a feeling that it was 86 is high. that's that's uh but not surprising actually yeah it's not surprising but you're looking at um colton we
Starting point is 00:11:56 did have a picture of the of the doctor there we go our doctor come on that's a i that is there's no way that is that is that is the doctor that is ai oh ali i don't know i'm gonna go with it i'm going to go with it i have seen that photo before um if it's a i sure but that is the doctor who's our current well yeah she is she has a doctor but i don't think I think it's AI. Liz says it's AI. Okay. Well, anyway, I like this, though.
Starting point is 00:12:26 I like this fact. You know, Colton, he worked that clod back there. Today's show brought to you by Pioneer Pastures. Full disclosure. I love this product so much. I actually invested in the company, but I was drinking it way before I put in a dime. Honey Stinger has been fueling endurance athletes for over 25 years. Real fuel, not candy dressed up as sports nutrition. And they're right over the hill from us in Steamboat Springs, one of my favorite places, the boat. But they aren't resting on their laurels
Starting point is 00:13:35 and they have just launched two incredible products, electrolyte gels and 100 milligram caffeinated chews. And all of it is easy on the stomach three hours in. I'm going to need that today on my ride. So use the code of the move 25 for 25% off at Honeystinger.com. com slash the move 25. I thought you were running today. Yeah, you haven't sent me my map yet. I have it. No, have it. Okay. All right. But the one I mapped out was 12 miles. That's easy. I just did 100 K two weeks ago. I'm fine. Yeah, from here going, um, the people at home are like, we don't care where Allison's running today, although you might. I haven't mapped out on Strz. I didn't know if 12 was too much. No. Okay. I got it. The way bolts at me, it was 10.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Yeah. It's just hard. It's all uphill. That's fine. It's, yeah. There's some downhills too. Good. I need a little crazy out.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Then you like me better when I get a little my crazy out. Yeah. Let's wear her out. What about 22 miles on the way home? Perfect. What about 22 miles in the morning? Before she comes in here. Mori, it'd be better.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Then Bolt would have to deal with more sweat on me. Well, we've spent the week talking about it. And we spent a little bit of, bit of the first part of the show talking about tomorrow's the day. Right? This is, I got to say, I love, upset it. I do think the Voluntu is the hardest climb in France, bar none. What I didn't say the other days is, is it, it's my favorite climb in France. It is so special.
Starting point is 00:15:05 There's something about it. It's just weird. Like, it's weird in a great way. But tomorrow's the day. I mean, this is, obviously, there are other stages and other tough stages, but you can not, you can't fake it on the Volantu, so nobody's going to be able to, bake it tomorrow. Extremely hot.
Starting point is 00:15:21 90 degrees in Bedouan at the bottom. Allie, you said there's no, apparently the courses stay in the same. Yep. So they have not altered the route due to the fires in the area. Apparently also, they're going to limit some of the fans who are allowed to go up. I don't know exactly what that means. They're basically. They're just going to close the road.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Is that no fans? No fans on Vantu, which is going to be a bummer. It's going to be a big bummer. but they are doing it for people who are already up there just make them leave now no they can stay up there probably i wonder if they push them towards the top if you've seen the above tree line nothing is catching on fire at the top of onto there is nothing it's rock yeah in fact you look for days all you see is rock there there's nothing to catch on fire up there but go back to sorry go back to the profile it just doesn't lie no 46k the final climb of onto is 15.7 kilometers So otherwise known as 10 miles at 8.8%.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Ouch. It is relentless. And super steep at the bottom. Yeah. Very, very steep. Very hot. And obviously, at the bottom is going to be even hotter. It cools off a little bit at the top.
Starting point is 00:16:30 You get exposed. You get wind, which poses a whole other set of scenarios. But it is the day. I'm going to call it V-Day. Can I call it V-Day then? We call it V-Day. Fonte, I don't know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:45 No, I knew. We knew. We got it. We knew. I'm slow on my jokes. We knew what you meant. We knew what you meant. No bonus, no bonus time tomorrow, except on the finish.
Starting point is 00:16:57 Which is crazy. Yeah. There is time bonuses. There's time bonuses on the finish, but no bonus sprints. No bonus sprint second points like today we saw. Cassia Nia Nia doma is kind of putting on, I don't want to say, a brave face, a happy face. Like, she's, I think she too is feeling good. I think so too
Starting point is 00:17:17 And I was actually a little surprised To see her not in the break today Because of the The way the dissent went So the way the break went away Was on the dissent And she's usually one of the first people Like in the front on a dissent
Starting point is 00:17:29 Yeah So I thought it was strange that she missed it I mean obviously wouldn't gone If she was there but Well she definitely felt threatened Had her team get to the front And try to pull back Because Lamborghini is a threat to her
Starting point is 00:17:43 They're within similar or so, Elisa Longo, Regini did gain time today. But Yacasia was more patient, maybe, or took a little less risk than we normally see. Yeah, I think the whole thing gets reshuffled tomorrow. For sure. It's so difficult. Time gaps can be massive on this climb. So who wins tomorrow?
Starting point is 00:18:02 I think Demi wins. I think she wins. What she was doing at the end today, I thought that's either really, really ill-advised and strange, or you were just so in control that you said, I'm just going to sit here and do a little tempo with the yellow jersey on my wheel. It's not my job to do it. It's her job. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:23 I think she looks good. And I'm curious how the doctor does. I mean, I think if she rides a smart race, because it is a good climb for a power rider like that. And she's smart. But I think Demi, I think Demi wins. And if she wins tomorrow, she wins it all. For sure. As you should, on the Vauntu.
Starting point is 00:18:43 On the Vauntu. And we have that hard. But like we said, it's not going to be over till, I mean, it's over because Sunday's a really hard stage, too. Yep. I mean, you never know. The other thing about that stage in Denise, and we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, is the cold as is certainly not a vauntube, but it's hard. The descents are technical. They're fast.
Starting point is 00:19:03 They're technical. Things can happen. You don't ever want to see that happen, but you got to, and they got to do it three times. I mean, you have to be on your toes for those descents around the south of France. for sure. I bet Kachia is looking at that one. Yeah. No, I mean, you descend straight down and you're done.
Starting point is 00:19:21 There's the finish line. Yeah. Oh, baby. What else is on? Big day. Big day tomorrow. This is on the board up there. We got the move of the day.
Starting point is 00:19:30 We got it all. Yeah? We got it all. We got it all. Got the big music festival here this weekend in Aspen. I got my kids coming town. Got Jordan, my partner came in town. These kids, they go to these things.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Anna's back. Anna's back, although she's not a big EDS music fest. You know, you follow this EDM stuff? This shit is huge. No. I don't follow it either. No, I'm telling you. This guy, this guy, this guy, John Summit.
Starting point is 00:19:59 This is a headliner. This guy's huge. Okay. Oh, no. That sounds horrible for my head. No, but it's good to have the kids here. Oh, and, geez. I am 19 minutes and 50 seconds into this.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Speaking of my wife, happy anniversary, Anna. Oh, happy anniversary. It feels so funny. You know, we've been together 20 years. We got two kids together. We've got a great life. But four years ago today, we actually was right up. Remember it was right after the show?
Starting point is 00:20:32 We hauled ass. Went to the plane and flew over Europe. And it was on that trip. It wasn't. I'm making it sound like it was an accident or like random. It wasn't. But four years ago. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Happy anniversary, Anna and Lance. And I remember this because you told me I shouldn't get my news off of TMZ. You leave and I see the ring on your finger before you guys are flying to Europe. And I go, hey, I like that ring. You know, whatever. And then I look on my ex, whatever, Twitter, whatever it's called. And on TMZ, it's like Lance Armstrong is married. What?
Starting point is 00:21:07 Yes. And I texted it, the screenshot to you. And I said, apparently I should get my news from TMZ. The things you remember, Ali. I'll pull up the screenshot next time. You want your news fast. I'm serious. You want your news fast?
Starting point is 00:21:23 Go to TMZ. It's weird. Anything happens. I forget like people getting married and like celebrity stuff, but anything bad happens. It's like they get the scoops. I don't know how they do it. Well, unless they talked about her in Flakegate, they're dead to me. But I did find out about your way.
Starting point is 00:21:39 However, they didn't cover it. Never mind. We're not going to cover it anymore because it's been covered enough. You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, we do. No more. No more. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Running out of days to call us. Actually, really, really running out of days to call us, because here in three more days, we're not taking any more calls for any, my grace. 9707-18-273-6 is the hotline. Give us a call. Coltland, caller number one. Hey, all. This is Doug Collin from Minneapolis.
Starting point is 00:22:10 is after Demi's win yesterday, her interview was really interesting to me hearing how she was talking about the other two, how she knew kind of exactly what they were going to stand what their fellow writers in the Peloton ride like because they spent so much time with them, but how much prep and all racing goes in before each day. Love the show. Keep bringing the content. Thank you all. Have a great day. Ladies. Well, we called that Demi was going to win. I think she's the quickest finisher. out of that bunch. She said, we must not have seen that interview. Maybe we missed the post-race interview. Yeah. Not only would she know, this goes true for women cycling,
Starting point is 00:22:59 men cycling, junior cycling, like you're around these people enough. You learn a lot about them, right? You learn the way they pedal. I mean, you didn't need us to look at the TV and say that Pauline doesn't look great.
Starting point is 00:23:12 They saw that way before anybody saw that. The other interesting thing is, is best I can tell in women's like there's been a lot of you know, Demi was on SDWorks, which is, so now not only does she have competitors that probably know her very well and vice versa. She also has former teammates or now teammates that, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:31 that you really, really know well because you've done training camps with and you've spent time with them. Or race directors. I mean, Anna Vannebring is a director. I mean, how about that, right?
Starting point is 00:23:40 That would be hard. Yeah. Different scene. Yeah. But yeah, that holds. for all disciplines and all categories in cycling for sure. I mean, they definitely know how each person can win a race, like, what their options are,
Starting point is 00:23:56 and they're going through that when they're thinking about how things are going to play out. Yeah, you study your competitors. You study the Peloton, you know, and, I mean, we knew Kossio's going to attack first. God, we wanted her to me. I know. And Damie knows she's quicker. And then Rooster waits sits on Damie. So I think it played out exactly as everyone figured it would.
Starting point is 00:24:16 So yeah, know your competitors. I remember this when I first got into the European Peloton. I was in a sorority in Abilene. And you had to study your competition. Like, you make flashcards to be like, okay, you're Marihold and this is who you are. So I would do that when I went to Europe because I didn't know the riders as much racing domestically before I started racing World Tour. So then I'm like studying all the competition to know who they are with their name is, what their strengths are. And then you can simplify the race by racing against certain riders that, like, are.
Starting point is 00:24:46 similar to me. So that's who I want to be in the break with. For a second there, I thought there was some sort of sorority competition. Did you not? I was waiting for it. I cannot wait to hear whatever y'all were getting up to in Abilene in the sorority competition. I have a lot of stories on that. But they would make you go around like a black circle and you have to like talk about the names and like who their boyfriend were with if they were from Plano, Texas or whatever. I know. You know, like coming back to to Dammy for a second and the way she won the race yesterday and then the way she was pulling in the stage today and you thinking that it shows that she's feeling really good. It was interesting because
Starting point is 00:25:25 she did work hard in that finish for, you know, to catch her in that sprint. And she wasn't going to gain much like time, you know, I mean seconds. And when we know seconds are going to mean nothing on Fonte, most likely, especially with time bonuses at the finish. I mean, it was wasting some of those energies like that was an interesting move on Demi's part. So this, time when Katja attacked, it was actually one of her better time to attack. It was the perfect timing and you thought she would get it because there was, you know, not much, I mean, yes, winning the stage was great for Demi, but she has bigger things coming up. Yeah, you guys called it when we're watching it.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Yep. All right, caller number two. This is Edward from Kerry, North Carolina. Big fan of the moves. I've got a question for all of you. Throughout your racing careers, what was your favorite weather to rank? were there any weather conditions where you felt you had a real advantage over the rest of the peloton three two one hi I love it this is not catching on yes it is too late
Starting point is 00:26:31 Mari the favorite weather well you know I mean not favorite in general like I hate rain normally in bad conditions but I always felt like if it was bad conditions that I had an advantage and And I think thinking when you go into something that you're better than other people and you can do like suffer more than them or deal with worse conditions, you know, it's like a almost like a superpower going into things, you know. And so yeah, I hated racing in bad conditions. Would never be in the rain now riding my bike. But like if there was like options for me to race that way, that I would, that's my kind of thing. Yeah. Same thing.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Worse the weather, the better I did. I think. You see that clay gravel with the unbound thing. You take it to next level, that's like I wouldn't do that. Did like 500 miles across Andes. Yeah, more dirt, more wind, more rain, more mud, like the harder it is. And like, I agree with you, Marri. It doesn't mean I'm enjoying it at all.
Starting point is 00:27:31 I am not in a happy place in my head, but I really like being in that dark place. And I also think that I'm a bigger rider. And so when it gets windy and the terrain is hard so you're on cobble. and it's just like a lot of rolling resistance and it's all about pure power and mental fortitude. I always felt that I excelled in that because people don't like it. They go, ew, it's raining.
Starting point is 00:27:49 But not descending in the rain. I'm actually really good to sending the rain. Oh, are you in the rain better? Wow. Do you know, I figured out, I think it's because people go slower and I go the same speed. Speaking of two feet.
Starting point is 00:28:02 What about you, Lance? For me, I, look, it's a kind of a trick question because, of course, the easy answer is why I like it 70 and sunny and no wind. Like your soul, 70 and sunny and no wind. But everybody likes that. And nobody would sit here and elect to ride a race that's 40 degrees and raining. But those, if I look back to the course of my career, those are the days I excel.
Starting point is 00:28:28 That's what I won the World Championships in in 1993. I mean, you can kind of look at four or five big days in my career that had this horrible weather. I always thought, because I do run hot, I would not want a day that's like the days that these women are going to face tomorrow, 90 degrees at the bottom of onto. Sounds horrible. I'm a bigger rider, even though I grew up in the heat, I suffered more, I think, suffered more than the others in the heat. So I wouldn't elect that. So perhaps a cold, rainy day just keeps this engine a little bit cooler. My favorite story, though, about bad weather, and I've told this a couple times on other shows.
Starting point is 00:29:06 but what is that? 1998. I did the World Championships in Balkanburg, Holland. And very tough circuit, very similar to the Amstall Gold Race. And I was on the start line with my friend Dylan Casey. I love Dylan. And we're sitting there and it's not raining. And we're probably five minutes before the start.
Starting point is 00:29:27 And we're right on the front line. And it starts, the skies open up. It just starts pouring. And Dylan looks at me and he goes, starting to rain. I said, I know. I go, hey, Dylan, turn around. I said, what do you see? I said, what do you see? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:46 See about 200 guys back there. I said, right? Half of them just quit. Yep. That's fact, right? And so that's just those guys that, it's just how you look at it, right? I'm either going to lean into this or I'm going to lean out. And when you lean out, then you're not going to factor into the bike race.
Starting point is 00:30:01 That particular day, I was like, you know what? Go ahead. Like, just quit the race right now because I'm leaning in. And so, but it wasn't just there. It was obviously in Oslo. It was on Huttacom in 2000. It was just days that I didn't love the downhills in the rain, but the uphills in the rain or the tough stages in the rain. No problem.
Starting point is 00:30:22 Again, I'm like Mari. I also wouldn't. If it was raining like that, I am not going outside. We don't ride the rain. I don't care how good the raincoat is. I don't care. How many undershirts, I will not go outside in the rain. and ride my bike at 55 years old.
Starting point is 00:30:36 No. No more. I'll race gravel in the rain, but I won't train in it anymore. I'm too old. It is that day, and as Al I dubbed it, it is V-Day tomorrow. This is the queen stage. This is the stage we've all been waiting for. I personally cannot wait.
Starting point is 00:30:54 And this is really going to shake up this bike race. Not just for, I mean, we talked about Demi thinking she's going to do great. We're going to figure out who's going to get second and third. and maybe get forth that somebody is just right there. This is when it all happens. And so bring on V-Day. Bring on V-Day.
Starting point is 00:31:12 Bring on V-Day. Let's do it. All right, game on. Thanks for tuning in, everybody. We will see y'all tomorrow in three, two, one. Bye!
