THEMOVE - Liège–Bastogne–Liège 2025 Breakdown | THEMOVE
Episode Date: April 27, 2025Lance, George, and Johan break down the 2025 edition of Liège–Bastogne–Liège, which saw Tadej Pogačar romp to an effortless victory over the doomed chase group of Giulio Ciccone and Ben Healy, ...taking his third win in the last five editions and cementing his status as the sport's most dominant racer in both one-day events and stage races. The trio discusses how Pogačar's UAE team set up his searing race-winning attack on the Côte de La Redoute, why it is so hard for anyone to even challenge him on these difficult courses, and where the Pogačar/Evenepoel rivalry stands after a truly disappointing outing from the young Belgian. Over the last three years, considering we're not just monuments and other races, but
24 major one-day races in the last three years, 21 out of 24 have been won by three riders.
Polka Tours won nine, Remco four, Vanderpool eight.
And there are very few exceptions there.
Yeah, the exceptions are Mohorich, Milan Sanremo,
Philips and Milan Sanremo and Dylan von Barla, Paris-Roubaix.
Other than that, these three guys have won all the major races in the last three years.
Well, good morning, everybody.
Welcome back to the MOVE podcast.
Talking about the 2025 Liège Bastogne Liege.
Lance Armstrong sitting here on the big island of Hawaii.
As you can see right there, yes, sun is coming up.
You'll want to ask me early.
It was dark when we started the pre-show.
But of course, as always, joined by Georgine Cappy down there in a wine cellar.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, I see you guys.
Happy Sunday.
Hey, what? Yeah. What time is it there for you, George?
It is 12 o'clock.
12 o'clock. Yeah.
By the way, I just want a little bit of credit.
I mean, you imagine.
Waking up at 3 a.m.
to watch that.
I mean, I was some we're impressed.
We're impressed.
We're impressed.
Lance, we're impressed with your commitment.
We're impressed.
But also, I do not feel bad for you for one second.
After that video, you've shown us swimming with the man arrays.
Yeah. About bougie jumping off yachts and stuff.
Bro, I was I was on a Yizzi too, bro. I was.
I know I saw.
No, you didn't see the Yizzi.
I saw you jumping off the damn thing.
Oh, you did. That's right. Yeah. Mari posted that. Yeah.
Mari Holden's here. Of course. Um, by the way,
what an athlete. I mean, obviously was legendary cyclist,
but we did this workout yesterday too.
And I promise at some point we'll talk about,
although there's not a ton to talk about,
but we did this beach workout
and then this fun workout called rock running,
which we started doing here in Hawaii years and years,
decades ago actually, but she crushed it.
That girl got an engine.
Anyways, also joined by Johan Brunel.
Coming in with coming in with a lot of stats, performances like this
leave you a lot of time to go down the rabbit hole of statistics.
Which it's it is that is compelling.
I mean, they just sort of speak for themselves.
We'll get into all the action.
But before we do today's show, brought to you by Element folks, they're back.
I'm over here in Hawaii, sweating my face off as I do when it warms up.
You hear us talk about it all the time.
It is our go-to hydration choice.
Thousand milligrams of sodium,
200 milligrams of potassium,
60 milligrams of magnesium,
no sugar, no gluten,
no artificial ingredients, no BS.

Also today brought to you by Maui Nui.
Been fun to be here on the islands, on the big island right now.
Headed to Kauai tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I'm going to fly right over
you guys and gals over there in Maui.
Go see some other folks over there.
But but honestly, for travel, that is a short trip, but it's a long trip to get here.
Maui Nui was getting me through the long voyage from Texas to Hawaii.
Huge difference.
Not sitting on that plane, eating that junky airplane food.
It is a great snack for on the go, delicious and healthy way to stay fueled.
Maui Nui is solving a critical environmental problem here in Hawaii.
Wild access deer, check this is amazing, wild access deer are invasive to Maui.
Well, what can we say? They have good taste, literally. It's overpopulated and it is damaging
the ecosystem. Maui Nui helps manage this issue responsibly.
It is also trusted and loved by my dear friend,
Dr. Peter Attia.
Maui Nui offers the only 100% wild harvested meat
that's completely stress-free and responsibly sourced.
Sort of like George, stress-free.
Right, Yohan?
I mean, we want to, everybody on this show wants to die
and come back as Georgine Cappy.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind, I wouldn't mind.
No, it's just stress-free, responsibly sourced.
He has nothing to say.
It's perfect for anyone looking to elevate their meals
with delicious, high quality protein.
Maui Nui Venison is offering the Move listeners
a limited collection of our favorite cuts and products,
but supplies limited by the nature of their work.
So don't wait, head to Maui Nui,
that's M-A-U-I-N-U-I, mauinuivenison.com slash the move.
Again, that's mauinuivenison.com slash the move. Again, that's Maui Nui venison.com slash the move.
Okay.
I think the thing that stands out here is,
not only are these performances repetitive,
that just is what it is.
I mean, the Tadej Pogacar is not gonna,
he's not gonna let others win.
He's not gonna wait longer in the race
so it stays, he's gonna do,
Tadej is gonna do Tadej things.
But I think when you look at this,
here's an example, right?
And you can, I think the best way to think about it,
compare this to other sports.
We just had the London Marathon, right?
These are the best cyclists in the world. The London
marathon had the best marathoners in the world. You know, uh, two weeks ago you
had the masters, you had the best golfers in the world. I mean, this is
the equivalent of somebody went in the London marathon by a minute. This is the
somebody, the equivalent of somebody went in the masters by 15 strokes. You
just don't see that these are the best in the world.
And it's, it, and it is.
We can and we count.
Uh, it's, it's, uh,
yeah, well, I, I think it's, I think it's more unique than, than any other
sports in, in, in the sense that we have a guy like Pogacar who is the
world champion. He's number one in the world, but he wins on all terrains. And we all know
how different certain races are from others. And so today he was obviously the big favorite.
There was some kind of speculation that Remco might be a match after him coming back on Pogacar
in the Amstel Gold Race. But today you could see that this was a different Pogacar than
Amstel Gold Race. He's fully recovered from Flanders and Roubaix. We had a little taste of
that in Flesh for Lone, but today was still another level. He went whenever he decided to.
And I think this is his attack on Laradut.
Normally, you know, you have, you have a lead out on Laradut and then they kind
of go at the last moment, right? With two, 300 meters to go.
This was almost a kilometer to go. And when, when, when Pugacar went,
and nobody was able to react, nobody was able to follow.
And what really was really impressive is the fact that he,
he didn't even stand up once. It was from this saddle, huge power and just,
you know, go.
We got to mention also, I mean, we're talking about five monuments of the spring classics.
Typically, historically, arguably three different riders, three different rider types are winning
these five classics. Okay. You got San Remo,
could be a sprinter, maybe a climber goes, but usually a sprinter. Roubaix, Lander, you got the
hardcore classics guys. Then of course, Léaise and Amsogold, you got the climber, classic guys.
He was in worst in second place in Lombardy, but I'm talking about these five that he was not worst
in second place. Four. If you include Strade Bianchi.
Oh, and Fletcher Lohan too.
So, yeah.
Yeah, he was he was he was third in Milan San Remo, George.
Third. OK.
Wasn't off the podium in any of those completely different riding styles.
I mean, have we ever seen anything like that? No.
I think we have to go back to Eddie Merckx, which, you know,
no, I have I have a vague memory when I wasckx, which, you know, I have a vague memory when
I was a child, but you know, not really.
But after that, there's nobody been that dominant on all the terrains as Bogotar.
There's no way.
And it's just, you can't, okay.
I mean, you just can't compare it.
I mean, Eddie did do that, but he was not racing in this.
Well, I don't know.
I hate to even have this conversation
because then you sound like an old curmudgeon or.
Yeah.
Well, I think we should.
These are not.
Yeah, they're not, they're not.
It's not comparable.
I mean, this is a, but what is true is this generation,
they're all very fit and they're all super dialed when it comes to training,
nutrition, recovery, blah, blah, blah, equipment.
This is, okay.
It's just head over heels.
And you can sometimes say his team is that much better,
but you saw the team's Leto Trek, EF Education.
I mean, they were all
really well represented and wrote a really strong race. It's not like UAE is that much
better as a team in general, but Pogachar. I mean, I was found it so interesting there
at his interview. He said when he attacked up La Radue, he kept it within himself. And
we saw that he only had 10 seconds at the top.
He was a very, very strong group behind him. Typically he's out.
That's going to someone's going to catch that no problem.
But he was well within himself where these guys were going all out,
just to say within 10 seconds.
And then he just slowly brought the time up to a minute and a half.
Yeah, yeah.
Um, I mean, I think, you know, speaking about of Pogacar, it's, it's,
it's crazy how, how, how dominant he is. And as you say, George, you know, it's crazy how dominant he is.
And as you say, George, you know, he knows what he's doing.
This was, he said, this was not the plan.
So it was clear that the attack on Laradoute,
I think they were waiting.
Normally he should have waited
until all his teammates were done, right?
Because let's not forget,
he still had three teammates when he attacked.
Usually you have your teammates, by the way, very honorable mention to Dominovac. I think that guy is amazing. It was amazing what
he did today as a domestique, but he still had Brandon McNulty at least, and maybe not a one.
So obviously the plan would have been that McNte would have taken over to make it hard on Lara Dutta and then maybe wait for an attack.
Then he also said that he heard over the radio that his, in his eyes,
his main rival Ramco was 40, 50 places back.
And that kind of motivated him to go, which, um, you know,
I think it was a smart move. Um, from,
how frustrating must it be for the rest of the Peloton to know that they're in
these races and Pogacar's in great shape. And I think the, the,
I don't know if you guys saw the interaction between Ben Healy and, uh,
Pogacar after the finish and he said, when are you retiring?
And then I have a contract till 2013. When are you retiring? Yeah. And, and not for a while.
I have a contract till 2013.
30.
Hilly was like, shit, 2030.
Sorry, 2030.
So yeah, we have Pogacar for a while, man.
Yeah.
You know, on read, we talked earlier, and we, and I referenced at the top of the show,
just going through some stats here.
Read off the Belgian.
Here's a, of course, riders like certain races.
Riders also like racing in certain countries.
Belgium, of course, one of the meccas of cycling,
because of great riders like Mercs, et cetera, et cetera.
But just go down the list of what was it?
The last nine performances.
The last seven races Pogacar did in Belgium,
and they're all big races.
You know, it's Flanders, Liège and Flesch.
So we go back to 2023,
two Flanders first.
Same year, Flesch-Vallon first. Same year, Liège-Bastogne-Liège. 2023 tour of Flanders first same year flesh well on first same year.
Lea's best only is DNF because he broke his wrist.
And then we start again the year after the only edge first.
And then this year to Flanders first flesh well on first.
The best only I show six out of the seven last big races he did in Belgium.
He won and the other one he crashed out.
That's crazy. That's crazy.
And and and it isn't just because we look at there.
There are times, of course, Matthew Vanderpool's
has been exceptional the last few years.
Remco's had his moments.
What did we say here?
Um, over the last three years, 20. Remco's had his moments. What did we say here?
Over the last three years, 20, so considering we're not just monuments and other races,
but 24 major one day races in the last three years, 21 out of 24 have been won by three
riders.
Polka Chars one nine, Remco four, Vanderpool eight. Eight. Yeah. Pogacar is one nine, Remco four, Vanderpool eight.
Eight.
Yeah.
I mean, there are very few exceptions there.
Yeah.
The exceptions are Mohoric, Milan Sanremo, Philipson Milan Sanremo and Dylan Van Barla
Parirube.
Other than that, these three guys have won all the major races in the last three years.
You know, you get to a point,
and especially with a guy like Pogacar,
that if we discuss about the tactics of other teams
and other riders today,
I think it's come down right now to,
I mean, especially these races like Liège,
where it's the strongest rider who wins, almost always.
Right.
They race for second and third.
And to be on the podium next to Pogacar is an honor.
It's kind of a victory. I've not seen somebody being second
behind Pogacar and being disappointed for a very long time.
I was going to say that too, Joen. I think those guys, it's definitely Chikoni,
Lance's boy, Ben Healy, that those guys.
That's my guy. That's my guy.
Like a lot, a lot today.
Cause they're the best of the rest of the field.
I mean, it's a huge, huge, huge day for little track.
Two guys in the top 10 or three guys.
Three guys in the top six, George.
Yeah. Three guys in the top six.
So Healy, uh, Chikoni second, uh, T-Bonez and who's theaut Naiss, and then Velasco.
No, not Velasco.
Who's sixth?
I don't remember who was sixth.
Anyway, they had three guys in the top six.
That's pretty impressive.
But yeah, I mean, speaking about tactics, you know,
I've seen some comments, you know,
what do these other guys do?
Why don't they anticipate?
Why don't they try to be upfront?
I mean, we've seen, uh, in AOS, who by the way, are racing completely different since
the beginning of the year as they used to and with relative success, but they went,
they went and basically they got caught the moment they were about to catch the breakaway
that got caught by moment they were about to catch the breakaway that got caught by
the Peloton. So those were two guys out of the race. Unfortunately, if you have a rider like
Pogacar and this incredibly strong team, there's not much you can hope for other than second or
third. Unfortunately, that's the situation. But I have to say, you guys say, okay, it's boring.
That's the situation. But I have to say, you know, you guys say, okay, it's boring.
It is boring, but I enjoy this.
It's the guy who's the best in the world.
Maybe I did say it.
Did I say it was boring?
Yeah, you kind of did.
Okay, all right.
All right.
I hate, look, I don't wanna be the guy that says that.
People listen to us.
Yeah, but that's that that sounds terrible.
I know. But but all right.
You're right. It was a little boring.
But the nation is here.
Domination is boring.
It well. And then, yeah.
And then at the same time,
it's hard for certainly the three of us to sit here and and not even criticize, but but
comment that something's boring.
Maybe we won the fucking tour to France seven times in a row.
Imagine what people were thinking.
This is boring.
It's can we let somebody else win?
You know, there's another stat.
I mean, I don't have the exact numbers, but you know, if you look at the, how
dominant Pogacar, if you take the UCI ranking, right,
he's the number one in the world and he has more points combined by himself than the second,
the third and the fourth together.
That's crazy.
I mean, more than double points than the second guy.
And those, the second, third and fourth together have less points than Pogacar, which is in
addition of all the points you have over the last year.
So that's how strong he is. Now, I'm going to ask you a question, Lance. I mean, if you see this,
you see this dominance and you're, you're not thinking, what are you thinking?
Yeah, I know. What are you thinking?
I don't know. I think Jonas is I don't know, obviously, I don't know him, but I think he's pretty.
I think he's pretty focused. There's a couple of ways to look at it. You could say, great, let him go out there and punch himself out.
Right, because there's a couple things here.
There are repeated efforts over the course
of an early season, right?
One would think that would take it out of you.
Now, I don't know, this guy's so special.
The other one is just, and I was just thinking about
from Pogachar's perspective, at some point, so special. The other one is just, is, and I was just thinking about from
poker charts perspective, at some point,
you have to say like,
this is, this just isn't that, I mean, I'm just
drubbing these guys, the best in the world, every week.
You gotta, it takes a really special person
to stay motivated.
Now, the tour is that, right?
That is the thing where you say,
all right, I don't need to do this again. Meaning another one day race where I just kicked everybody's
ass. The tour, that's a whole new set of motivations and, and, and incentives.
But yeah, if you're, if you're being a guard, I mean, of course he watches.
I don't know. It watches. I don't know.
It's, I don't know.
I think Johan, you've mentioned many times how meticulously.
Well, let me.
Go ahead.
No, I mean, if I were, let me just try to put myself in his shoes, right?
And so let's just go back, right?
And I'm watching this and I don't do any of the spring classics and, and Jan or, or somebody else
is out there dominating like this. I'd be nervous and would, I mean, we were nervous
about a writer like Jan Ulrich just hearing about what he was doing at a training camp
or hearing about whether or not he was leaning out, like which was always his struggle. That made us nervous.
Yeah, if you're a Vanguard, you're probably going,
oh my God.
Now, he's been there before,
and he's surprised us before, right?
And I think that's kind of the hope here
is that we would love that, right?
This is gonna be a perfect Jonas against this poker chart.
It's a good race, right?
It will not look like this.
Yeah. No, you have to, I think in the case of, of Jonas and, and Visma,
you have to believe in your plan. You know, I mean, obviously let's not forget.
He crashed pretty hard and injured his, his wrist, I think, or his elbow.
And Pairanis had to change his program,
but it's definitely not as bad as last year
because last year he was still in the hospital now.
Now he's training fully.
So I think you have to believe in your plan, you know,
and say, okay, you know, I'm just following,
focusing on my one objective, come to a peak, you know,
like one curve in the form instead of peaking first,
then having to recover and trying to get that second peak.
That's an advantage, in my opinion, mentally. But yeah, man, I mean, for the moment, he hasn't shown
any weaknesses. And last year, he was extremely dominant. To me, it looks like this year, he's on
a higher level than last year, at least in the spring. And his team is incredibly strong, which we can't say for the moment of Wismar.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was going to say the same thing.
I mean, let's not forget he was still, I believe in the ICU, an intensive care unit at this
time last year.
So he's already way above where he was last year.
And like you've mentioned many times, Johan, Visma Lisa Bike is so meticulously,
meticulous with their planning.
And like, they're not gonna let something like this,
like adjust their planning.
I think they're gonna keep their plan.
They're gonna stay focused.
So much so that when the variables
that are definitely gonna pop up throughout the year,
they struggle with the variables that they're not ready for,
but the planning is, is so meticulously planned that, um,
I believe Jonas is, is, is like we said,
much better than last year at this time and believing in the plan the team has
formed. So even though Pogatar is being so dominant, uh,
they're in a much better position than last year.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
We'll get into all that even more.
And we do have some other interesting stats
with regards to Mr. Povachar right after this.
Today's show also brought to you by NordVPN.
No doubt you've heard of VPNs, right?
And if you haven't, what is a VPN anyways?
A VPN is a service that helps to protect
your internet connection and privacy online.
VPNs create an encrypted tunnel for your data,
protect your online identity by hiding your IP address
and allow you to use public wifi hotspots safely.
What do you like about using a VPN?
How's it beneficial for a cycling fan?
Well, it's very beneficial.
As we all know, sometimes we struggle
to get access to races or the feeds.
And of course, George, you know,
he watches a lot of bike races.
Not all of them.
Today's show, of course, aired or streamed on Peacock.
That one was easy to watch.
A lot of times, not so easy.
Well, the VPN makes it accessible.
Easy to use, connect with one click
or enable auto-connect for zero click protection.
7,500 servers in 118 countries
change your virtual location easily.
Amazing speed.
NordVPN is one of the fastest VPNs
out there. Get your exclusive Nord VPN deal here. Head on over to Nord, N-O-R-D, VPN.com
slash The Move. That's NordVPN.com slash The Move. Last one of the day. Today's show brought
to you by Peak. As a cyclist, I know that energy endurance and digestion can make or break performance,
but gut issues and sluggish energy can still hold me back.
No matter how much I trained, I'd feel heavy and bloated after meals.
And my energy would crash when I needed it most.
That all changed when I discovered Peak Pures Teas.
Green Puer has become my go-to pre-ride fuel.
It gives me calm, steady energy without the jitters or crashes. And Black Puer, it's my
post-ride recovery secret, supporting digestion, reducing bloating, and leaving me feeling light
and ready to go again. So what is the PURE Tea Bundle?
It's a duo of fermented green and black PURE teas
designed to reset your gut, enhance metabolism,
and optimize energy levels.
For a limited time, get 20% off for life.
You heard that, for life.
Plus a free starter kit, a rechargeable frother,

That's peaklife.com slash the move.
By the way, peak is spelled P-I-Q-U-E.
Peaklife.com slash the move.
That comes with Peaks 90 day money back guarantee as well.
Peaklife.com slash the move.
All right, back to the races.
If we can call it a race, that was,
here's another stat, right?
It was, it was a, it was a, it was a,
I mean, it's a big race.
It's, you know.
No, it's a great race.
Speaking of great race, you know, it is a monument, right?
And just as a refresher for those who may or may not know, there are five monuments
in cycling in terms of one day races, right? And there's a lot of great one day races.
We just talked about Strade Bianche. You talked about a Flèche Vélone. Those are not monuments,
right? There are five monuments. Milan San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and then of course,
in the fall, the Tour of Lombardia.
Those are the five, right?
Mr. Poguchar has won now nine monuments.
And again, we're getting into this conversation
of the goats.
Eddie Merckx has 19 monuments.
Roger de Vlamin has 11.
So I think we can all agree here that he's going to pass Mr. Devlamac.
Now, does he can he get 10 more monuments?
I don't think anybody on this call is going to deny that he can do that.
Right. And how many of them are going to tell me to refer to?
I'm not going to. Does he have a 17?
No, I don't think he's 17 tourist ages.
Here's another stat. Races of 3000 meters or more of climbing.
So for folks who think in feet,
that's just call it 10,000 feet.
Out of the last 23 races, Mr. Poguchar has won 21 of them.
You wanted to ever anti-Poguchar race, you just make it flat.
But I think we also all agree that he probably figure out a way how to win those. Look at Roubaix. He was second.
Exactly. Exactly.
As flat as you can get.
So of races that are 10,000 feet of climbing out of, and we're talking about big races,
21 out of the last 23.
That's crazy. By the way, I want to give credit for the majority of these stats to
Jonas Creta, who's a Belgian journalist, who is the king of stats.
He's also a listener or a follower of the move.
Thank you, Jonas. Thank you.
He is amazing.
And I mean, these these stats, which are the guy like Pogacar really,
I mean, mind blowing.
Right. Well, I have a message for Mr.
Jonas Kritor.
So long as Tadej Pogacar is in the sport of cycling
and continues to dominate like this, we're going to need him.
Yeah, for sure. We need him to need him. Yeah, that for sure.
We need him to keep going down the rabbit hole of stats and data and history.
Jonas, whatever the fuck they want, you want to come up with.
We're going to have to talk about it.
I mean it.
So how does how does Sudol come out of this
one week block of racing for Remco?
I mean, are they you think they're disappointed or they're...
I mean, I think we have to talk about Remco, right?
Remco was the other big favorite, also a double,
the Esbastogne Liège winner.
The last four years were won by, before today,
were won by two times Pogacar, two times Ebenapoule.
Today, in my opinion, he had a complete off day.
That was definitely not his level.
As we said, he started a lot of dude really far behind and it was not due to positioning.
He said that he was finished the last hour of the race.
Didn't look for any excuses.
Also said, he just comes back after a long period of inactivity, six months, and
you're going to have ups and downs. I'm sure he's going to fight back, but this is of course
a disappointment and of course a disappointment for the team because they have shifted their
whole focus from being the Cobble Classics team to a team around Ramco. His team did
really well, I think surrounding him, supporting
him. But you know, if your leader doesn't have the legs at some point, then there's not much you can
do. So I think it's a disappointment, but he was, he was big in his defeat and didn't look for any
excuses. So I liked that. I'm pretty sure he's going to fight back. Now the question is, can he
get to the level of Pogacar?
I think for the moment, my answer would be no.
You know, and what does Pogacar do here?
We are now late April.
Right.
You got two months.
What's his schedule between, I guess, actually I'll add to this.
What is Pogi's schedule until the tour? And then what, what is I'll add to this. What is Pogge's schedule until the tour?
And then what is Jonas's schedule?
We're talking about those two.
They they both have an identical schedule.
So, of course,
that is going to recover now.
He needs to I think he needs a physical recovery,
but especially a mental recovery, because let's not forget guys.
You know, I mean, the amount of pressure on a guy like
this, every race, everybody expects him to win.
If you don't win, it's a defeat.
So he's going to take some time off.
First race back is Dauphiné.
And then the tour, so no more races, altitude camps.
Jonas is the same.
He doesn't need mental time off, but he's also doing altitude camps and dauphiné.
So we're going to see both of the big favorites for the tour back in the dauphiné and then
tour de France.
So identical schedule.
Okay.
Hmm.
Yeah.
Well, I wouldn't read too much into whatever happens at the Dauphiné.
They're both going to be ready. Yeah, of course. Yeah. But, but, but they're,
but they both know that. Yeah. Yeah. But I think, I think, I mean,
we're talking about today, right? But I, you know,
if you would put them right now as the two big favorites for the tour, maybe,
I think Jonas is probably going to be a little better prepared coming into the Odofini because Tadej has less time now to recover. And Jonas
is already at altitude right now. This is another thing, guys. Tadej Pogacar has not gone to altitude
yet this year, which nowadays everybody goes to altitude already in the winter, in
December, January. He hasn't gone yet. So this is another step up in his, in his condition
towards the Tour de France if he goes to altitude. I think last year was the first time he really
focused on that. And we saw the results. So yeah, I think we all know what we can expect
in July.
Yeah, I think we should maybe cover like, obviously, UAE incredible classic season,
Alpha Scene Phoenix incredible classic season. Who do you think does the front in terms of
the big teams who came out of the classics very, very disappointed. Disappointed? Obviously, Soudal.
Third place with Remco, I think was their best result.
Inio Sanso.
However, I mean, while we were doing this, what's her name?
They just won Lies Bastogne-Liesch.
Women.
First, I mean, this is something completely new.
Her name is Kimberly Lacour, champion of Mauritius, won the Esbastogne Liège.
So the women's team of Sudal Quick which is a G insurance. Um,
I guess, um, yeah, uh, they just want the bus on the edge, but that's,
cause it's not, it's not what, it's not what that team stands for. Right.
I mean, they are used to be the dominating factor in the classics. Uh,
yeah.
Mike has to be disappointed. Viz Malisa bike, big disappointment. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They haven't won one big race of all their objectives.
So now they focus on the tour and then Wad Vard, by the way, goes to the Giro now.
And then there's the tour, which is also a bit surprising.
Did I say they picked up Rabob bank and skill for the tour now?
I didn't see about skill, but somebody sent around their new kit.
All right.
Maybe I saw that online.
They had skill on their sleeves.
So bringing back from the old school, that's great.
So perhaps we're going to see some big changes
there for next season because it looks like they're bringing in a lot more money. The budget is
probably going to be bigger. So we'll see how that affects that team. It's amazing how fast it can
change, right? Like, you know, Visma or Jumbo Visma back in the days was like, okay, this is
this is the way to do it. This is
the team everybody wants to go to. You know, you have one or two disappointing or more disappointing
seasons and all of a sudden you're like, okay, you're third or fourth or fifth and
nobody, nobody keeps you in mind anymore. Yeah. And I, and I wouldn't look at, uh, uh, the,
I wouldn't use the sponsor on the Jersey as the gauge for, uh, what's
possible in terms of the, the riders.
Cause look at, look at the sponsor on Pogachar's chest.
Ain't nobody keeping up with that paper.
We're just, we talk in trillions.
Speaking about a team that has been disappointing the whole season, I think we have to say Red
Bull.
They've been nowhere.
I mean, in all the classics, they had Primos winning Catalonia.
They had Danny Martinez get like seventh today, which he's coming off.
He's been training in Colombia.
We saw him as a team back in Denver.
They're banking big time on Primos for the Giro that they're main goal.
So, but in the classics, they were not to be seen, nowhere. So, I think that's obviously
a big team that has been disappointing.
I agree. Yeah.
Well, what else do we have? I think that's about it guys.
So about it.
When's it our next show?
Do we have a little bit of time off or we got?
Yeah, I need a little break.
I need a break.
You guys have I just keep going.
I have to Giro.
I have to Dauphiné.
I have everything.
You're like a workhorse on this team, man.
I am not doing any cycling podcast until...
Zero, you're doing once a week zero, I think.
No, I hit the client on those calendar invites.
I'm not, I need a break.
I'm like Pogatar.
I've had a long spring campaign.
I gave it my all. I put everything I could into this. So I'm seeing the long spring campaign. I gave it my all.
I put everything I could into this, you know?
I'm seeing the douches until early July.
And then Pogacar and Jonas go to altitude
and Lance goes to Hawaii.
Yeah.
Believe it or not, believe it or not.
And now I know y'all saw me swimming around
when I'm at the raise yesterday.
I'm just an Aquaman, but this is a work trip.
This, no, I swear to God, my family's not here.
This is a work trip.
I thought I saw Max on the golf course with you.
We still don't feel sorry for you.
That was, that was a few days ago.
I was on the golf course with Max.
Now, now speaking of golf, okay,
I am about to get off this podcast and go play golf
at one of my top three favorite golf courses in the world.
It's called Nenea.
And I'm excited,
because in the foursome is, is one of the coats.
Kelly Slater.
Oh, nice.
Yeah.
I'm psyched on that.
Now that's not work, but I am here for work.
Just trust me on this.
Good, good, good, good.
Hey, I just to finish off guys.
No, none of you have given me any compliments for my backdrop.
Look, look at this.
This is today.
Pogacar smoke in the back.
This is like the smoke is coming out of Pogacar just leaves everybody.
It's this I think about this, you know, when I put this on this,
there's always a meaning.
I like it. You know.
I don't think any of us saw it,
and I'm sure that anybody that's watching the show on YouTube or whatnot
saw that either.
But what I also didn't ever see was in all the years, Johan,
that we've been together like I never I did never imagine,
never imagine that you were just such a.
You know, you thought like this.
Creative George, you never thought he was a creative.
He's got really creative with the show.
How does creative is as George Scorsese and he's our folks.
If you all are excited for the tour, I mean, Homeboy is prepping some content.
Oh, yeah, I got some good stuff.
Although I do need some for some of our viewers.
I do need some ideas.
I need some funny ideas.
And I also needed Lance to participate
in these funny ideas.
So if you got any, send them my way.
All right.
I guess that is it.
Anything else?
No.
Nope.
We'll see you.
Okay.
Cool.
All right, everybody.
Thanks for tuning in and we'll see you soon.
I'll see you in July. George will see you in May.
You know, I'll see you every day. It sounds like I'll see you.
George, I'll see you in the lands. I'll see you in about two weeks, I guess.
What? Oh yeah. In Germany. That's right. We should talk about that for a second.
Cause I had been meaning and I'm glad you brought this up.
I had been meaning to talk about this.
You're right.
I will see you at Yon's Fondo.
And I think it's three weeks.
It's three weeks from this weekend.
Yeah. So it's down in the Black Forest.
I will see you there. That's right.
I'll be riding myself. Sir Bradley Wiggins will be there. I'm hearing that Mario.
Mario's come. The lion is coming. Yeah. Yeah. He's coming.
Hey ladies. The lion king is coming. John obviously will be there.
Andreas, Cloe, Clawdon will be there. Yes. And a bunch of others.
And a bunch of others. So that, yeah, it's going to be, I'm excited for that.
I'm excited for that.
I'm excited for that. I'm going to, I got to, you know what?
I'm just tell everybody that's going to, if there, if anybody's racing,
I will be racing.
And is a, the other question is, is Johan riding or is he just going?
No, I'm riding. I'm riding. That was right. Yes. And I will, but I was,
the last thing I was, I will promise I will tighten my handlebars this time.
So if I'm in the front group, I'm not getting dropped because of loose handlebars,
which is what happened at the tour to Scottsdale.
We heard we heard you were I heard you were trying to race.
You were racing there. I heard I wasn't racing.
I was just riding my I was just riding my pace and I was just chilling.
By the way, too.
All these other weenies, all right, on skin suits and road bikes
and gravel bike right here.
Ventum GS gravel bike in the front group, you know, with loose handlebars.
The road tires are gravel tires.
No, no gravel tires.
OK, that's impressive.
Bobby Julik, Bobby Julik's fucking propeller head
who trained probably six hours a day.
I was just gonna text him actually to go for a ride.
Dropped.
Okay.
Never ride my bike.
Loose handlebars, gravel bike, gravel tires,
front group, fingers in the nose.
See an adutious.
And?
Get ready George for July.
I know. Swimming with a Manta race. And get ready George for July.
I know swimming with a mental race.
And you got, you got that new fancy mountain bikes.
I have to deal with in July. So buddy, wait till you see this.
I'm kind of jealous, kind of jealous. Not gonna lie.
Yeah.
I hope you guys saw Dr. Peter Attia's newsletter for the day.
I didn't. I missed it. Yeah. It's about how it was about why. And I used to know if you guys saw Dr. Peter Attia's newsletter for the day. I did. I miss it.
Yeah. It's about how it was about why. And I used to know this very well.
I don't know anymore, but I'm hoping you feel this a lot this summer. George's
why red wine always gives you a headache.
Look what George has behind you. Yeah. Look at him.
You should go read that newsletter right now.
Since you don't drink anymore, I'm actually really looking forward to dipping into your supply then as well this summer.
I have a lot of wine.
Anybody's?
I'm in the business of giving away wine now.
All right.
Cool.
Well, this was fun.
Thanks for tuning in, everybody.
Thanks, guys.
We'll see you soon.
All right.
Thank you.
Ciao ciao. everybody. Thanks guys. We'll see you soon. All right. Thank you.
