Hi Pussies, welcome back to Therapus.
Tonight for our intro, we have Pacity.
To be talking about our dark days.
I am enjoying myself here.
You just said you had to get back to L.A.
Okay, well, I'm enjoying myself here.
Well, I'm enjoying having you here.
Do you want to go home to L.A.?
When Jake leaves me, it becomes really dark.
Like, very dark.
You leave the apartment?
No.
The day after Jake leaves, my whole day is spent in the apartment.
It's a really dark place.
What do you do in the apartment when you're alone?
I rot
I like to rot
and marinate
in my bed
What do you think about?
I don't really have
like thoughts anymore
because my overthinking
kind of stopped
after I started taking Lexapro
I think that's helped you
I think it's helped me a lot
I actually do
Oh wow good for you Cass
My overthinking is like
really dark
It's a really scary place
Like give me an example
What do you mean
Like I can't explain it
I have no thoughts in my head anymore
I already don't have thoughts in my head
But like, you know what I mean?
What have you talked to your psychiatrist about how much you want to?
No, so I had a few meetings.
I was supposed to meet with him like last month and I ghosted him.
I'm also ghosting my therapist still right now, but we're going to get back into it soon.
Mm-hmm.
How is your therapist?
She's got it.
When's the last time you saw her?
Saw her two weeks ago.
What did you guys talk about?
Trauma.
Mm-hmm.
I had a few dark months.
I didn't recognize myself in that era.
A few different hair colors.
Jake just admitted to me that when I dyed my hair brunette, it was really bad.
But in the moment, I didn't think so.
You told me it was what...
Thank you!
The brunette era was a moment. Give me that.
Yeah.
Yeah, but like now you're saying you hated it.
Well, okay.
It was blonde and then it was pink.
I'm going back pink in two weeks.
I liked the pink.
The pink is everything.
What else?
So this is on Netflix.
Oh my god, okay.
So we need to talk about more
normal things. Okay. What's something that you did this weekend that brought you joy? I stayed in last
night that actually brought me a lot of joy. I think I needed that. You excited for your show today?
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So Jake banned me from seeing his Broadway shows. I don't know why, but I think it's because
the last two times I was there, I was front row and every single time he would look at me,
I would actually just lose my shit. And he was holding in his laughter on stage so hard.
that I felt so bad because he almost broke.
I almost made you laugh 15 times last time I was there.
And the time before I went with Alice
and it was probably Jake's worst nightmare.
What do you think about when you're alone?
When I'm alone, it can get dark.
Like, what do you mean?
Like my thoughts, I'm just thinking about
like what you would think about day to day.
What do you think about when you're alone?
I think about losing everybody in my life.
Yeah, that's like,
definitely what you think about, which I don't understand, but really scary.
Uh-huh. I think about how I'm going to end up alone. So when you're thinking about that,
you're manifesting it. So you need to start thinking more positively in your head. Like how?
Like you need to stop saying you're going to end up alone because when you say it, this is what
I was taught. When you say it. We taught you that. My therapist. Okay. When you say it, like you're
putting that out there because you know I do the same thing. But like if you've changed it and you're like,
I'm going to find this amazing.
amazing person within the year, then that's what's going to happen. You're manifesting it.
What is something that you've manifested recently that's worked?
Styling. And now I've been...
Oh my God. Why don't we take this time?
Yes.
Why don't we take this time? Cassidy, who has some of the best style that I know.
Thank you. That's actually really sweet.
It's true. Thank you.
Is venturing into the styling industry.
I've always wanted to style.
You've always wanted to.
But recently.
If any of you need to be styled for a shoot, for life, Cassidy, Michaela Brown has, that's your middle name?
Yes.
Has got you.
Okay.
I'll let you remember.
You just message her Cassidy M. Brown on Instagram.
Got you.
Except you haven't let me style you yet.
Well, I have a stylist.
Her name is Cindy Lopez and I love her dearly.
She's also awesome.
Yes.
Who's your favorite stylist in the world?
Andrew something.
I don't remember his last name, but he is popping off.
He styles Margot Robbie right now.
Have you seen her recent fit?
Yeah, she's always, she's always looking amazing.
No, but she's always looking amazing, but holy shit, she's looking insane because of her stylist.
Well, tonight on therapist, we have Nick Jonas, who is a dear friend.
Were you a Jonas Brothers fan?
I was a Jonas Brothers fan.
Yeah.
He was my favorite, actually.
Love Joe, loved Kevin, but Nick was my boy.
Okay, well, Nick is on therapist today.
He was actually the first person to ever interact with any of my staff.
He's the only reason that I have a career.
I would say.
Wow.
And he is so lovely, so kind.
His new album, Sunday Best, is out now.
It is incredible.
Please listen to it if you haven't.
It is really just truly amazing.
He is so amazing.
There is also only one more week of All Out on Broadway.
It ends Sunday, March 8th.
Please get your tickets online.
It is me, Ray Romano, Nicholas Braun,
Jenny Slate, written by Simon Rich,
directed by Alex Timbers.
At the Niederlander Theater,
I am having the best time ever.
You're killing it.
Thank you.
You really are.
Thank you.
You've been so supportive.
Thank you so much.
Three shows.
I've been to three shows.
Yes, you have.
Jake and I have a special bond.
It really doesn't get better.
I used to wake up in her bed in college.
Every night of college that we would go out, I would wake up next to Jake and his pink heels.
Sorry, I had to bring them up.
You know I did.
I would wear pink heels.
Cassidy tried conscious for the first time the other day.
They, I'm not a candy girl.
Like it kind of gives me a headache.
This candy, I went through three bags.
Yep, they're gone.
It was so good.
What was your favorite?
The sours, the foamis?
The foamy's.
Insane.
Like insane.
Melted in my mouth.
Have you had a good time?
I've had a really good time.
I hope I touched on all the topics we needed to touch on.
Oh, I'm going to miss you when you're in Paris.
I'm going to miss you.
No, it's actually really sad.
When are you back?
I get back on Sunday.
I leave Monday, my love.
Okay, so I'm going to come here on Sunday night, sleep over.
Do you want to come to my closing night?
Yeah, of course.
Pussies, I love you.
Enjoy tonight's episode.
Come see All Out on Broadway.
Stream Nick Jonas' new album, Sunday Best.
Out now.
Cassidy, thank you so much for joining me for this intro.
I love you so much.
Enjoy the episode.
I love you, Pussies.
Hi, Pussies.
Welcome back to Therapus.
Today we have on...
Would you consider us friends?
I would.
Yeah.
I would also.
I would.
Good.
A dear friend.
A dear friend.
Whose album is out now,
Sunday best, it's incredible.
Thank you.
Nick Jonas.
Happy to be here.
Happy to have you here.
This is long overdue.
Very much so.
Well, you know, like you were the first person to ever interact with any of my stuff with the Coke, Diet Coke.
Yeah.
It's kind of crazy.
What has happened in the last, whatever it's been, four or five years?
Three.
Three.
Very happy for you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
It's always fun to see genuinely nice people do well and succeed.
Is that your full name?
Because I've seen some also nice people succeed and that sucks.
Oh, well, speaking of succeeding, you weren't how to succeed in business without really trying.
I was.
I am starting on Broadway next week.
I heard. Yes.
Congrats.
All out?
Yeah, all out.
Amazing.
I'm so excited.
Are you based in New York?
We were this whole last year.
We basically got to New York in February last year.
I did the Broadway show last five years.
And then we ended up staying and just kind of lived out of New York because,
The tour with the brothers was in and around that area quite a bit, so it made more sense.
But we just literally, on Friday, moved back into our home here.
Are you happy to be back?
I am.
Yeah, it's, you know, L.A. is, it's nice.
We've got our friends here.
I don't, I don't love the traffic.
I forgot how annoying that is.
But what I will say is, I know you can take the subway in New York, but the traffic in New York is arguably just as bad.
I just walk everywhere.
So it probably takes me longer, but it's more enjoyable to get outside, take a nice long walk.
Even if it's freezing cold, I'll walk.
Right.
I love, do you sleep hot or cold?
Oh, cold, freezing cold.
Me too.
What is your temperature at?
If I can get away with it, meaning my wife likes to be warm when she sleeps.
So she tries to sit at like 71 or 702.
It's a nightmare material.
What I sleep at 62.
62 is very cold.
I love that.
With a fan next to me.
That's amazing.
How does the thermostat even get that low?
Well, it breaks all the time.
I need that life.
Yeah.
Well, you know what you need.
An 8 sleep.
And I've heard about this.
No.
Do you have one?
Yes.
And you can split up the sides.
You can split up the sides so your wife can be sleep hot.
Like it can be hot on her side and cold on yours.
I need to get this.
Speaking of, have you ever seen Quantico?
I have.
I've seen two episodes.
And I've seen a lot of clips.
Have you seen it?
In full.
Oh, wow.
Yes.
It's the best show of all time.
So is she.
It's a great show.
Would you ever consider watching the full show?
Yeah, I would love to.
We should set a date.
We'll do it together.
We'll watch the whole show together.
With her.
With her.
And she can give us like, you know, inside baseball.
It is the best show all time.
I love, like, political thrillers.
Me too.
Quantico, designated survivor.
I love designated survivor.
That was a good one.
What else?
What are you watching right now?
I'm watching the pit, which is quite good.
Have you seen it?
No, but I've seen someone that looks a lot quite like me if I lost 30 pounds.
Oh, that's right.
I have seen that, actually.
Because now my algorithm's all basically,
the pit is watching.
It's not even the algorithm.
It's just, it's clear as day.
It does, it does.
Whitaker.
Like you.
Yeah.
But you should give the show a watch.
You're in it, basically.
I know, I really should.
Did you watch, well, so the pit takes over, like,
it takes over the span of like 12 hours, right?
Correct.
So were you like a 24 watcher?
Back in the day, I was, like, I would say,
sort of a mid fan.
Like I wasn't on it.
week, but I did watch from time of time.
Okay.
It's nice because each episode you could watch as an individual journey and adventure, and it was,
it was, you didn't need to like know the bigger arc of the show, I think.
24?
Am I remembering this correctly?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Don't you need to know what happened in the previous hour?
I don't think so.
I think it can kind of just be its own, you know, 24 hour experience.
Totally.
Yeah.
Well, you know, something else I wanted to talk about was we share a stylist.
We do.
Sidney.
She's the best.
I saw her post about you and that she was dressing you.
I was like, I'm really happy to see that because she's a great person and she does a good job styling people she styles.
She's incredible.
We are low-key, so interconnected.
It's crazy.
Like, what are some more connection points?
Berman.
Berman?
Yeah, exactly.
Berman, Sydney.
We're basically, we kind of have the same team almost.
I'm the fifth.
You're the fifth, Jonas.
I'm the fifth.
Have you had Franklin on the show?
No, I need to.
How many episodes do you do weekly?
Um, during like, once we start out, it's one.
once a week.
Yeah.
Well, right now I'm about to,
well, maybe I'll film some in New York,
but usually it's once a week.
One time I did seven in a week.
Seven in a week?
And I know to you,
it's like,
because like you're doing like shows
and Broadway and like the whole to do.
It's a lot of talking.
Yeah.
It's a lot.
I see,
I find that I get more tired
vocally from talking over singing.
Okay.
Wait, what?
And I have like a softer speaking voice
to kind of talk quiet.
And that's literally because I get like,
if I over-extend talking, I can't sing.
But I can sing all the time.
It'd be fine.
What's your, when's your birthday?
September.
Virgo?
Virgo.
Do you love?
How'd you know?
Do you love, like, control and stuff?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm, you're very typical Virgo is what I've been told.
What's to say?
What to say?
You know what I need?
What do you need?
Can somebody grab me at Celsius, please?
Thank you so much.
Love a Celsius.
You love Celsius?
I mean, I used to drink it a lot more.
And then I,
realized that it was making me feel a little anxious sometimes,
so I kind of chilled on it.
Oh, speaking of anxiety, you struggle with anxiety.
All right.
No?
Yeah, I mean, sometimes.
Okay.
Like, not like, uh...
I just read something you were quite open about.
You had a moment of anxiety on a red carpet.
Yeah.
Well, I was just hot, actually, so you'll understand this.
I was on the Golden Gloves,
I was on the Golden Gloves, right carpet with Priyanka.
It was like this tented kind of red carpet thing,
and the heat was blasting for some reason.
And it was a hot day outside.
And I was in a, you know, a tuxedo with a bow tie and the whole thing.
Yeah, well, you looked fabulous.
Thank you.
And I was just really hot and uncomfortable and I was sweating.
And it's a stressful environment to be sweating because you're being photographed and just cameras in your face and trying to like act normal in interviews.
I'm like literally burning up.
And I didn't mean to do that.
I wasn't on purpose to reference my song.
It was perfect.
It was a genuine accident.
And then I went and just got some fresh air and I felt better.
Oh, amazing.
And I had some water.
And some water.
You know what?
I have been drinking so much water lately.
And everyone, by the way, I'm not even kidding.
Everyone's been like, wait, your face looks so much slimmer.
Your face looks so much slimmer.
Water.
Water is key.
Water is key.
It makes you feel great.
It tastes like nothing.
It's perfect.
Yeah, well, I used to put in.
You just put the water stuff.
Yeah, the little liquid IVs in.
But apparently, you are not supposed to have those unless you're, like, running a marathon.
Have you ever run a marathon?
I have run a 5K.
I ran a 5K the other.
week.
I found it to be very challenging.
I took a break in the middle and smoked a cigarette right after.
Yeah.
I did it once.
Joe actually hosted a run, a 5K run for a charity that he was working with.
And it was in Texas somewhere.
So it was again, really hot.
And I got out halfway through.
I was like, I don't think I can do this.
I'm not a runner.
You know your body.
Yeah.
I like to stay fit and workout on it, but I hate running.
Yeah, running's the worst.
But you know it's great walking.
Walking is great.
Walking is almost equally as great as running.
Kind of, yeah, better on your knees, I think.
Well, you know, speaking of Joe, you're sitting on a present he got me.
His couch?
No, I wish.
I was like, that's a really nice gift.
This?
Yes, Patrick.
Oh, that's very nice.
Yes, Joe, how me that.
Can I ask you what the octopus thing is?
I'm so glad you asked.
Yeah, I'm dying to know.
So I started by, like, I started my account by reviewing octopus dishes.
Oh.
So I'd be like, past that pus, like, and I'd review.
You can review it out of eight, ten to eight because of eight tentacles.
Yeah.
High pussies, thereopus, that's where it just kind of spiraled.
So what's the best octopus you've ever eaten?
Great question.
I think Angelini and the Palisades.
I don't know if it's open right now because of the fires, but it was amazing.
You're from L.A. originally?
From New York.
From New York originally.
Born in L.A., raised in New York.
So we're tri-state.
We're tri-state, you and me.
New York City.
Or like, okay, wow.
Yeah.
When did you come back to L.A?
For college.
For USC.
I went to USC.
Do you ever wish you went to college?
I do sometimes, yeah.
I really loved to play baseball, and I had this dream that I could, like, walk on the baseball team.
It wouldn't have happened.
I don't have the height for it, but I...
You need height?
Oh, you do need height.
You kind of need height.
Not every...
You know, there's some anomalies that figured out.
But anyway, I went to visit the Northwestern University campus in Chicago when I was, like, 16.
And, you know, it wasn't the cards.
other things were happening.
We were very busy at the time.
What was happening for you at 16?
We were on the Burning Up tour,
which was, I think, in 2008.
And life was crazy.
It was like an insane chapter of our journey.
Did you clock, like, oh, this is crazy?
Or were you like, okay, well, this is just my job?
I think we clocked.
I mean, once things sort of really took off,
I would say we were on tour with Aver Levine in Europe
in the early part of 2008
and, you know, our
record had really started to bubble
and things were happening.
And on that tour in particular,
we hadn't ever toured Europe.
So, like, the Averill fans
would, like, boo us sometimes.
Shut up.
They didn't really like us.
Which is, by the end of the show,
we'd win them over.
That was the whole idea.
But when we first came out,
they were like, who are these kids on stage?
Anyway, so we had a couple, like, rough shows
and we were like, does anyone care about us?
Then we came back to the U.S.
And things were, like, nuts.
Oh.
And it was that,
At that point in the journey where I was like,
I think this is going to be a thing.
Well, correct me if I'm wrong,
but would you consider the takeoff point of everything
when the year 3,000 music video premiered on Disney Channel?
Yeah, I think so.
Because we'd already released a record that really didn't do well.
Right.
And we got dropped from our first record label and then Hollywood Records,
which is owned by Disney, Disney Music Group,
said like, we know what to do with this.
We know how to market this.
And so they, you know, they started playing the video on Disney Channel and then it just went nuts from there.
Wow.
They turned on, as I said, the Disney Fawcett.
The Disney Fawcett.
What was it like being on the Disney Fosset?
Parts of the journey that, of course, when you look back at, you know, different stages of your life, when you're, like, in your early 20s and trying to be cool, that you can be like, oh, that was cringy or whatever.
But then, you know, at this stage in my life and now in my 30s, like, I look at those things that we were able to be a part of with Disney.
and I have like so much pride.
And I'm really grateful that we got to make movies with them
and, you know, do the TV shows and all that.
And we were part of a pretty crazy, pivotal, you know,
Disney moment.
Graduating class of, you know, of Disney stars.
I wanted to ask you specifically the Disney Channel games.
Yeah.
What team were you on again?
You yellow?
I was in the red team.
Red?
The Infernos.
Okay, the infernos.
How did you not remember that?
You know what?
It's not quite good at this job.
Was that like summer camp for you?
Or was that like, oh, stop it.
Tell me everything.
Well, I spoke about this on a late night show on time.
And I think it was like some people started to take it way too seriously, like too literally.
I said like, oh, it's like, you know, Love Island on crack.
And other people responded that were there and were like, it wasn't anything like that.
It's weird.
I'm like, guys, it's not that serious.
So would you like all like go to each other's rooms after?
No, it wasn't, to be clear, it wasn't like Love Island.
It was, that was just a fun way to say that it was like high school or summer camp.
Right.
We're all, you know, we're all teenagers.
Like it was just a wild time, but there was no inappropriate things happening because we also had our parents there and chaperones.
And it was a whole, you know, situation.
But I will say this, it was very fun.
I really enjoyed, we did it one year and then we performed that at one year.
So we got to be a part of it.
I enjoyed being around other kids my age who had similar interest.
and who like to entertain and sing.
And, you know, it was, it was a, because I was homeschooled and I was with my brothers
all the time, we were touring these sort of environments where we could tap into like a sort
of high school culture.
Right.
I think it was really key to our, like, ability to stay somewhat normal.
Was there anything that happened during the games that you're like, oh, this feels like
high school?
Like, was there like a class clown?
Was there like, we're all going to class, right?
Like, you know what I mean?
There's these videos from like the, the, the open.
opening night party where you know we're all like on the dance floor and there was this actually
this video of me like dancing which is not something I often did I was kind of very self-conscious about
dancing and wanted to be taken seriously as a musician so we never danced right and so I didn't
really have any confidence there but I'm so carefree and really having fun the video and and I
watched it back now as you know as an adult and I was like wow that that kid was fearless like he
he was so
able to just be in the moment
and be silly and all these things that I
feel like I lost
along the way at some point
and it was kind of great to see it
and I think it's a direct result of
that environment for me and I
really believe other people that were there
was really fun and it was
a nice thing to get to
to be together and do these things
it was really fun
do you remember
do you think
because obviously you guys were followed by
the press and such but do you think
that that
had an impact on, like, being more reserved, or do you think social media played an even
bigger role in that? Like, which do you think kind of affected you more?
Well, I think, you know, we, we already had a version of it because we grew up in the church.
Our dad was a pastor.
And there was sort of a microscope on us because we were, like, the first family of the church.
So we had to behave a certain way.
Oh, okay.
You know, pastors' kids historically, like, either end up, like, really fucked up or, like, super.
buttoned up. It's like one of the other. Or the Jonas brothers. And so, you know, we, we had to be
really kind of buttoned up and act correctly, which I think was actually really good training
ground for later on when we work with Disney. And there's obviously like certain things that you
have to do to represent the Disney company. And I think a lot of people took that as pressure.
I certainly did at times, but I also, I think, you know, it was good for us. We were kids just
trying to figure it out and always tried to be good people and make good choices.
But the pressure, the lens, I think when social media came into the scene, you know, back
when I think Twitter was the first one.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, we used to be on MySpace, but that was long before, you know, Twitter and Instagram.
Everyone became a journalist.
And then even now with TikTok, everyone's a detective and everyone's a journalist.
And so, you know, we were balanced about it, I think.
It was a part of the job.
It was sort of like, all right, this is just a kind of tax you have to pay.
You sort of lose your privacy.
But I think our parents really helped us kind of navigate that.
Right.
You had them through it all.
And you also had each other.
We had each other.
We checked each other.
And that was like, I think, it was good.
It was like a self-governing thing where we all, you know, knew how to support each other,
but also be like, hey, come on, don't do that.
And what did Frankie think about all this?
Let's ask him.
Franklin, no.
He was so young.
I mean, he was, when we first started, he was, like, four.
How old is he now?
He's 20, he'll be 26 this year.
He was not four.
Yeah, it was four.
No, but because I wasn't four.
And that's my age.
No, he was, we started.
Sorry, I don't know why I'm arguing with you about that.
I'm telling the truth that.
We technically started working like 20,
And I started on Broadway as a kid before that.
So it's, like, quite a long time.
I forgot. I've seen the documentary.
Yeah.
Yes.
Have you?
I have.
Nice.
I have.
I remember.
Yeah, I remember you.
Still have to get you to a show, though.
Okay.
Well, so you know what.
I know Joe gave you some shit about this.
He did.
Yes.
I went to your Vegas show.
Yeah.
I remember that.
Amazing.
Love bug was just simply electric.
Yeah.
Did you gamble?
No.
No.
Do you gamble?
I, I, I've learned how to.
I like the game where you play and it spins on the wheel.
Roulette.
That's my favorite game.
Yeah, and it just lands on a number because the first time I won $2,000.
Numbers or did you just do red and black?
I was, no, I did numbers.
I was like, that one.
And then it landed on that one.
Just one number?
Yeah, because I was like, just put it all on that one.
See, that's how they hook you.
Okay, so you think it's rigged.
I think everything in the casino is rigged because it has to be.
They have to make those buildings and someone has to make.
make all that money, you know?
So you know what I do?
Because I also think that every time I gamble, I say, this is my first time.
Smart.
I say, oh my God, how do I do this?
It's my first time, so they're nicer to me.
That's very good.
I'm going to do that, too.
Actually, we saw you here two months ago.
Yeah, when you performed.
When you performed in this casino.
Are you planning on touring this album?
I hope to.
I've been doing these sort of like smaller, intimate shows where, you know, I get to talk about the music
where the inspiration came from.
because it is
important for me
to share the context of this album.
I always start with like why,
why now, why this album?
That's the question I ask myself first
before I go and make a project.
And that's because I want to make sure
that I'm doing something
that feels important to me,
important enough to go in
and, you know,
spend the time in the studio
to write the songs and record them
and to make it the album.
Every second of the process
starts with the intention.
It's kind of my idea.
And with this one, it was like, well, it took about two and a half years to make, but it's really 33 years in the making.
It's like my whole life and different sort of snapshots and points of view and perspective that I had, but hadn't been able to put pen to paper on and actually articulate in the way that I did with this one.
And I think that came from collaboration.
I worked with some amazing co-writers who really helped me kind of bring the vision to life with it.
And yeah, so those shows have been great, and I've been able to give that context.
and I'd love to do some more later this year
where I can do a sort of bigger, more exciting show
where I can play stuff from this album
and stuff from previous records of mine
and some songs I wrote with the Jonas Brothers stuff
like it'd be nice to,
it's been I think 10 years or so
since I toured solo.
Really? Was the last tour with the album
that had jealous on it?
No, it was the one after that
was called Last Year was complicated.
I remember.
I went on a tour for that.
that was about 25 shows or something like that
and then I did another one
not too long after that
but yeah it's been a while
do you enjoy touring
I love touring
I don't always love traveling so much
you know it's nice when
you can kind of hub out of a city
right what we'll do is we'll
be based in Los Angeles for like a week
going in and out of the different places for the shows
on the bus or whatever
lying and then and then you get to come back home
and see the family and kind of have a sense of normalcy amidst the craziness.
But I really do love Tori.
How did you like your tour?
Oh my God.
Not you knowing.
Thank you so much for asking.
Didn't you play MSG?
No,
not MSG.
Radio City.
Radio City.
I did.
Because I walked by the marquee to go to the theater when I was doing the last five years.
And I was like, oh, wow.
That's amazing.
Heck.
I was very excited for you.
Thank you.
deal. It was awesome. It was awesome. It was exhausting.
And I know that sounds silly coming from me because you're like up there singing and dancing and
doing the whole to do and I'm just talking. But it was exhausting. Yeah. It was exhausting because I don't
know. I'm just. It's a lot of energy. It's a lot of energy. I'm a, I'm a tough cookie in
general as a human. I'm quite lazy. I, you know, it was a lot. It was a lot. But I,
my favorite part, at least for me, because I began.
online was being able to see everybody in person and be like, oh my God, it's so real.
These people are, like, this is real.
People are actually buying tickets and showing up to this.
So powerful.
Like we, you know, you do it, whether it's on online or on recording, you know, whatever it is.
And it's, in a lot of ways, you're kind of like, is it real?
Like who are these folks that are engaging with this?
And then you get to see it and see the impact that the live experience has.
on people.
It's,
it's,
I think it's really powerful.
Do you have a favorite show you've ever done?
Tough to pick.
But we,
the first show of this last tour
that we just did.
That I missed.
Greetings from your hometown tour.
You missed.
It was pretty amazing.
It was in our hometown stadium
that we used to drive past
on a way into New York City,
like hoping to accomplish our dreams someday
and looking at that venue
and be like,
one day we'll play there.
And we got to start the tour there.
And,
that was probably,
my favorite one in recent member
but there's so many tough to pick
did you have a favorite one
Seattle Seattle Seattle
Seattle that was fishing right
Seattle it was just
because a good vibe it was the crowd was
great and my
favorite is when I can riff with the crowd
and like and feel
I just felt very confident
and like in like my humor
and all my jokes were landing
and it was just all it was the best
everyone was so so happy
and we went fishing and
got sushi after that and it was just great.
Where do you think your sense of humor comes from?
Like, what's the source of it or where did it come from?
I think I'm very self-deprecated.
Yeah.
So I think it's a defense mechanism almost against somebody making a comment.
Like if, like, they're, have you ever seen the show, Girls?
I have not, admittedly.
Sorry.
No, it's okay.
You have to.
Okay.
I'll, I have a lot of fights from up, so I'll put it on my to-do list.
Quantico girls.
Yeah.
Um, it's, so Hannah, the Lena Dunham has this line where she says, like, anything bad you could say about me, I've said to myself 10 times within the last hour already.
And so I think that a lot of my humor is like kind of getting to the joke first before anyone else can because I'm so scared of someone like making fun of me.
Like I have this quote above, um, my bed that, my bed that, um, manny who's out there painted for me.
And it's, it's a quote, I forgot who said it.
But it says, if you slip on a banana peel,
if you slip on a banana peel,
people will laugh at you.
But if you tell people you slipped on a banana peel,
it's your laugh.
That's good.
And so that's, I think,
where my humor is from.
And also, I don't know,
I'm like miserable and anxious and just like,
I haven't, you know, like.
I think, yeah, it's interesting,
because you have a very,
you have a very good sense of humor.
And your style of,
comedy like going back to the first couple of videos I saw of yours I was I was like this is a
very smart person because you have to be smart to to like you know to write those bits and to like
to do them well um I should hang out with you all the time I'm not trying to gas you out I'm just
saying it no I know it shows thank you um and you know the the the fact that it's from a place of
of saying like I'm going to make the joke before someone else can makes makes a lot of sense
based on how you
construct your comedy.
But you're very funny.
Thank you.
And you are a very good singer,
actor.
Thank you.
And all of it.
Well,
I also,
I think I base it a lot in,
like,
my friend group.
Like,
it's a lot of,
see that.
A lot of it's very,
like,
imitations of,
like,
I grew up around a lot of women.
All my best friends are girls.
And, like,
it's,
it's, like,
very,
if you get it,
you,
like,
you really get it.
Like,
it's very,
like,
girl humor,
I would say.
Love that.
Yeah.
I did want to ask you about the Send It On video.
Mm-hmm.
What about it?
Do you feel like that was kind of, we are the world for children?
In some ways.
It was.
I mean, here's the reality.
At the core of it, the whole Friends for Change movement, I think, was a really responsible and good thing that Disney did.
It was about being kinder to the planet Earth.
right to oh girl we have not accomplished that we had not accomplished that um and so that sentiment i think
was was really solid uh there was there was a lot of initiatives like you know uh waste and in the oceans
and and um you know recycling like all these things that are good in in practice in principle um but
but it was slightly like oh it's a lot yeah but did you have fun filming or was it like so stressful
Like, because if you, there's like a BTS of like the We Are the World.
Am I correct?
There's like a, beyond the scenes of like the day, the night that like Lionel Richie.
Yeah, there's a, there's a movie about it.
It was like the most stressful night ever.
So was it stressful for you guys?
Did you send it on?
Um, it's aspects of it.
Uh, because it was all of, like the big one was like all of the talent across all the shows.
And anytime all of us were together, it was like, it was just a lot of energy.
Everyone, you know.
Well, it's a bunch of teenagers on.
It was, so it was, it was not stressful in the way of like, are we going to get this right?
We were just, you know, go stand over there, deliver your line or sing your thing.
And I mean, there was like so many liners, though.
Like, what do you mean?
If you want the back.
Yeah, I do.
So we do these, like, they were called like content days or something where basically all the talent will come in.
And it would be the, the wand thing.
Yes.
That.
And then they would, then you would do, like, all these liners for, like, different territories.
Oh, you know what?
I used to, when I worked at a record label,
I would make artists do these.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But these are on camera,
and it's like every territory
across all the Disney channels,
all over the world,
and then also like some of these initiatives
that were a part of the Disney channel thing.
And that part always like,
you know,
reading off a teleprompter,
like,
to your point about it feeling exhausting play shows,
you love it,
but it's a lot of energy.
That would always kind of get me
as like the having to read off a prompter for hours
and be like,
oh my gosh,
Is insane.
Do you remember, can you do one?
Down the barrel?
Yeah.
Hey, I'm Nick Jonas and you're watching Disney Channel.
Be sure to check out a new episode of Zach and Cody coming this spring.
That kind of stuff.
Okay, but what about for a different country?
Hey, Denmark, it's Nick Jonas here.
Okay, cool.
Just, I wanted like full context.
Sorry, I just, like, triggered you, literally.
Yeah.
But it's okay.
I'm so sorry.
It's fine.
I'm going to survive.
Thank you, Seekek again for sponsoring today.

Did you watch any Disney shows while you were on Disney?
We'd watch some of the movies.
Before we were on Disney Channel,
decoms, as it was.
Of course.
We would watch all the classics, and there were some amazing ones.
Johnny Sunnam, it was a good one.
What's your favorite movie of all time?
Ooh, Goodwill Hunting.
It's probably my favorite movie.
Did you see Goodwill Duncan last night?
I didn't see it.
I heard about it.
Is it good?
What was your favorite ad?
My favorite ad?
Oh, everybody.
Yeah, the T-Mobile.
But then it was crypto.
Coinbase crypto now.
Oh, okay.
Gosh.
Now I feel bad, you know?
Yeah.
But, yeah, it was cool.
You're going to do a Super Bowl commercial next year?
Ideally.
Did you guys do one this year?
No.
I did Poppy last year.
Yeah.
Have you guys ever done?
I'm sure you've done one before.
I have, yeah.
Which for who?
The brothers haven't, I have.
Ooh.
Well, I have a partnership with Dexcom, which is a continuous school close monitor that I wear.
I'm a type one diabetic.
So I have my Dexcom on here.
And I did, it's really cool.
We did actually two Super Bowl campaigns.
And it was amazing to bring something like diabetes onto a stage that big and talk about a thing that really is quite life-changing for me.
and so many people living with type 1 and type 2.
So that was cool.
Then I did a Toyota commercial, which was fun.
Two different things.
Very different things.
Yes.
The Toyota commercial was a good concept.
It was, you know, keeping up with the Joneses and I appear like, Jonas.
It was very funny.
Oh, they're very clever with those.
They are.
When you started openly talking about diabetes, did people come up to you in the street and say, like, thank you?
Well, I was diagnosed when I was 13.
Right.
And we had just really started touring and stuff.
And I knew pretty quickly that I wanted to speak openly about it
because when I was in the hospital newly diagnosed,
there really wasn't somebody that the nurses with doctors could be like,
hey, this person's living with this disease and they're doing just fine.
And so I was kind of like if whatever platform I have at whatever stage,
I'm just going to speak about this because there might be somebody,
another 13-year-old kid in the hospital who needs a little encouragement.
that they're going to be okay.
So yeah, I've spoken about it forever, basically,
and I've met some amazing people by being open about it.
That's beautiful.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah, I feel like I know quite a few people with diabetes.
Yeah.
Sorry, that was so awkward.
I say that.
I mean, a lot of people have it.
My friend Tucker has it, you know, role model.
Oh, yeah.
He is amazing.
I met him in Vegas briefly.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, you did.
Yeah.
You should be Sally.
Yeah, I should be.
You should be.
This is my formal offer.
No.
No, you should be.
I'm throwing my name in that.
Yes.
Do you know like how Sally started and stuff?
No.
No idea.
You're just like all of a sudden it appeared.
Yeah, what, what?
Are you lying?
I genuinely don't, I don't know.
Okay.
Is it you?
It was me.
You're the first Sally?
I was.
the first sally.
Well, this is like how I react when people are like bringing your name up and I'm like,
do you know that I actually was the first person to like engage with him on social with the day?
Oh yeah.
I take full credit.
Wait,
why am I so honored?
If that's gotten back to you, I hope you're not offended.
No, I'm so honored.
I'm not saying that like I'm there.
I never say that.
I just say that, you know.
No, no.
Like you were the first.
That, that, that, you were my first.
That week in New York, I went to New York.
I think literally with the sole purpose of making that video with you guys.
Yeah.
At Fallon.
Yes, at Falun.
That was great.
I was great.
I was great.
I was in London.
At the time, Priyanka was shooting Citadel there.
And I was like...
I've heard that's great.
It's great.
You should check it up.
The next season's coming out soon.
Her new movie's amazing.
It comes out.
I'm going to point at you.
That was really aggressive.
No. What's her new movie?
You must watch it.
It's called The Bluff.
It's on Amazon Prime.
It comes out on the 24th, I believe.
What's it about?
She plays a pirate, like, warrior.
It's a best.
Badass revenge story.
It's so good.
It's set in like the 17, late 1700s.
Anyway, I was with her in London,
and I had just gotten there a few days before,
so I was still jet lagged,
and I was like up till four or five in the morning every night,
just scrolling.
And then I came across your video,
and I sort of made the response
in somewhat of like a delirious state
because I was up at four in the morning.
And, yeah, it was crazy how much people loved it.
I mean, I woke up with pure joy and excitement
that Nick Jonas too added my video.
It's so great.
Yeah, that was, that was, thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
It's not, it's just a very, very small, small part of the Ascension story.
Well, to me, it's one of the biggest.
I talk about it all the time.
Like, yeah, that first week in New York.
And then I went to go to your S&L after party.
You guys performed on S&L.
That was fun.
Yeah.
You know my favorite song off that album is, I think it's called Montana Skies.
Yeah, cool.
Thanks.
Yeah.
John Bellion.
Great.
Icon.
He's made one of my favorite songs of all time.
Ghost by Justin Bieber.
It's really good that song.
Oh, so good.
Did you work with him on this new album?
I didn't work with him on this new album, but I certainly will again on something.
He's the best.
Who did you work with on this album?
So, J.P. Sacks basically posted this video a while back that was very honest and kind of vulnerable.
It was about his tour and having to not do it because of some facts.
And basically I was like, wow, he was so candid and it, like, really spoke to me.
And I reached out and said, hey, do you want to come out and be the special guest at our show in Toronto where he's from?
And he said, yes.
And he came out and absolutely killed it.
And then basically, I was like, look, I'm doing a writing camp in a couple weeks.
I love for you to join.
And so he was really, I think, the anchor to the project, helping me kind of bring it all to life and say what I wanted to say.
and then there was a bunch of other collaborators
Paris Carney who's a very good friend of mine
also a huge part of the songwriting aspects of this
and Brian Daly Blush, Josette, Jeff Giddy
DeWain Whitmore was an amazing group of people
who really gave me the freedom to speak
you know honestly and I think because it was friends
I was able to just kind of relax and take the guard down a little bit
and just be real and just
sometimes you approach like writing a song and you're thinking about all the ways in which
it'll be commercial or it'll find its audience uh if it'll trend on ticot i mean all these things
are a part of the creative process whether you like it or not but i really wanted to just strip
all that away and say what feels right here and what am i what am i actually trying to say um now
look i hope one of them becomes a hit that would be great but uh it's kind of more important
at this stage for me to just say the most real thing.
I loved gut punch.
Thank you.
Can you explain to me the beginning you're talking about your hair falling out and then
not falling out?
What is the significance behind that?
I went to the studio that day and I was talking to my co-writers, blush, just at Ryan Daly.
I was like, literally like this.
Like I'm having my coffee kind of start of the day and I was retelling them about how
earlier that morning I was like, I think my hair stopped.
growing.
They're like, what do you mean?
I was like, it's, well, it's not, it's not falling out, but it's just, it's reached
its maximum length and it just doesn't grow any longer than that.
They're like, that's not possible.
I'm like, I don't, I don't know.
And then I, I got reflective about it and not to get too, like, artisty, whatever.
No, got honesty.
I was like, maybe it's me.
Maybe I'm not growing.
Like, and the metaphor became important enough to be like, that's a,
song and that literally became the verse and then when we got to the gut punch part it was just
about kind of the ways in which we all beat ourselves up and stress about our people thinking
about that thing I said last night I feel like I'm misunderstood or you know am I being a thoughtful
and responsible friend husband father all these questions and one of the things I think is important
about gut punch which is why I wanted to put it out first is that it is specific to my experience
but I think it's the most universal theme and concept.
You don't have to have lived my experience to relate to this.
And also, I feel like, you know,
I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth ever,
but some people might look at me in my life and say,
oh, he doesn't ever think like that.
But that's just not the case.
I mean, we all deal with some level of self-doubt
or, you know, even ways in which we speak to ourselves
that are unkind at times.
And it was really,
gratifying for me to
make a song that that speaks about that.
Yeah, I thought it was super beautiful.
It reminded me of when I was journaling the other day
and I was just writing all these horrible things about myself down.
Why?
Because I crashed out for like,
how many, how long would you give it, Louise?
What?
Three weeks.
I thought shorter.
I thought it was one week.
I'm sorry that happened.
No, it's okay.
It's okay.
But I wrote like, oink, oink, oink, piggy.
I mean
I would encourage you
unsolicited
Think positive
No I know I know
I know
It's important to get those things out
Sometimes I got it out
To get it out
And then
Leave it behind
And if you
You know
Sometimes you just have to say a thing
It doesn't mean it's true
It doesn't make it true
Because you've said it
You know who you are
You know what your heart is
And
You know I'm sorry that
That rejection happened
But you know what
It's all good
I found out the other day that it was well worth it.
I'll tell you after.
It's actually a really exciting story.
Oh, boy.
I know.
You don't give two shits.
I'm excited to hear.
What was I going to ask you?
Oh, love bug.
The chord change in love bug when it goes like hard.
Yeah.
How did that happen?
The first verse, second chorus and second verse, second chorus, before the big change at the end.
I wrote in a hotel room in New York City.
And I basically had it ending with the just,
Love Bug Again, chorus and it,
without it doing the big epic guitar solo thing.
But when Kevin and Joe heard,
they wanted to ramp that part up,
and we all contributed to that sort of piece of the puzzle,
which I think makes it a really special
and powerful moment live.
It's the best song of all time.
So I'm so proud of that one.
I think it's the quintessential Jonas Brothers song.
That's what you think is the quintessence.
that's what you think is the quintessential
Jonas Brothers song
Love Buck?
I think so yeah
That would be my quintessential one
Takes you on a journey
It musically
It's really representative
of like our sound
Um
And
you know
I think playing it now
So many years later
It's even more exciting
And
And you know
powerful than even when it was back then
Wow
I did not know
I could have thought you would have said year 3000
Well what's funny
is year 3000
is a cover.
It's not even our song originally.
We didn't write it.
A lot of people don't know this.
Including me.
Yeah, so there's a band called Busted.
They are
amazing guys.
Totally.
And had, you know,
their first kind of big record and break
in the early 2000s.
But this song,
that was massive over in the UK,
didn't really transition over here
to the U.S.
And, or, you know,
it didn't chart here in the U.S.
So our label exec, David Massey,
signed us and it's the best guy ever.
He was like, I have this idea.
What if we cut this record and released it in the U.S.?
So we did.
And it was wild.
I mean, a brilliant move on his part to find that,
pair it with us.
And obviously, Busted had to approve it.
Because for a long time,
we had all these people being like, from the UK,
they stole the songs.
Like, you can't steal a song.
That's not how it works.
You have to get approval or you get sued.
Yeah.
And so they were kind enough to let us take the song and run.
We've now performed it together a bunch of times.
Busted still together.
They're still together.
They're on tour right now or just finished up one.
What is your favorite, like, speaking of covers?
What is your favorite, like, musical cover of all time?
It's kind of a double, it's a bizarre one.
But, you know, Dolly Parton wrote, I will always love you.
So she wrote that.
Whitney Houston made it popular.
but then Dolly Parton released her own version of it, I believe, or it's the other way around.
Anyway, that's your favorite.
Whitney and Dolly both kind of covered.
I don't know how to explain it.
The math's not nothing in my brain either, but yeah, that's the best one.
Wow.
I think my favorite, it's kind of random.
Drake did a cover of Nico's these days.
I've never heard that.
It is just simply, have you ever heard it?
Oh, my God.
It's amazing.
First of all, I love the song these days.
and his cover of it is just outstanding.
I am very, very excited to announce a new sponsor of Therapus, which is Deepop.
I love Deepop.
Everyone loves Deepop.
My best friends in the entire world use Deepop, like, religiously.
It is the best place I feel like to find secondhand and resale fashion.
Like, I mean, what I specifically use it for, and as you can see,
is I like finding like vintage artist or like merch on there.
I love merch.
I more than,
merch is like my favorite thing in the entire world.
Like I love like,
I don't know if it's like the feeling of exclusivity or what.
I don't know what it is,
but I love merch and more specifically I love vintage merch.
So I always, always, always go to Deep Pop to find that vintage merch
because somebody is always selling like an old concert t-shirt or like an old poster.
So I love Deepop.
I had Nick Jonas on today and I got this on Deepop.
I was going to wear it, but right before I got so nervous.
And I just, I was like, I can't, I can't, I can't because I was, but I'm wearing it now to
announce this depop partnership that I am so excited about.
For the next guest, though, that I do this with, I am going to muster up the strength and courage
to wear the merch.
When I found out Nick was coming on, I like immediately went to depop because if there's anything
out there, I know there's some old Jonas Brothers merch.
And I was correct.
And I found this incredible t-shirt.
And Manny also found a t-shirt.
Mani, come here.
Yes, come sit.
Grab the mic.
My beautiful vintage shirt.
Yes.
Do you use D-pop?
I use D-Pop like every month.
Do you ever sell clothes on D-Pop?
I never have actually, but I know it's easy.
I have friends that do it.
My favorite part about D-Pop, personally, not that you asked, but I'm going to tell
you, is that they don't take seller fees.
So like a bunch of other companies, like if you're selling your clothes, like they will
take a cut of what you make, but D-Pop doesn't take anything.
So it's like a literal virtual flea market, which I think is so cool.
That is cool.
Also what I love about Deepop is that like you really do like connect with people that
share similar styles to you.
And style is such a personal thing.
You really do talk to the person you're buying from like or that you're selling to.
And it's just such a community.
I just think it's so incredible.
All of my best friends, including me, shop on Deepop.
Like it is just so you find pieces you would not find anywhere.
You can just find like really, really unique.
items and I just think it is just the perfect place for that. It really is because you can find stuff
you literally can't find anywhere else. Also what I think is amazing is that Deepop is for everyone.
Like my best friend Julia uses it to find like these insane vintage pieces. But then I have
friends with kids that once these kids grow out of these clothes, they want a place to sell them.
So they'll sell them on Deepop. Like it really is just such a community where everyone can,
there's something for everyone. And I just think that's so amazing. For me, it's merch and like
concert merch and artist merch and like louis.
uses it to find shoes. She, like, has a huge shoe collection and, like, loves finding vintage shoes on Deepop. Also, it really helps you hone your own personal style because you're not being, like, told what to buy. You're not being, like, marketed certain items. Like, you are on the hunt for what you want. Download the Deepop app to start selling. Your first listing only takes a few minutes, and there is somebody out there already searching for your style. Thank you again, Deepop for sponsoring today's episode. Stay tuned for all the other guests and the exciting items I find to accompany them.
Who's your favorite artist of all time?
Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift.
Who's yours?
Steve I wonder, probably.
I also love Bonnie Vair.
Very cool.
Right?
Very cool.
Right.
Every time I say that, I'm always like, and Bonnie Bear.
Yeah.
Because, you know, like, everyone's like, what are you listening to right now?
I'm like just the new Bonnie Bear record.
Because I just feel like it makes me seem like in the scene.
It's like when you order like a fancy cocktail and you're like, yeah, I drink these all
time.
What's your favorite cocktail?
I keep it quite simple.
Just do tequila with soda.
You seem like a tequila drinker.
Yeah.
I do I?
Yeah.
You give that.
I'm giving tequila drinker.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That.
And then if I'm doing, if I'm like doing a thing, like I'm going to an event or I'm
dressed up, I love to have a dirty martini.
That's like, like gin or vodka?
Okay.
You gin?
Gin.
That's because you're a grown up.
Ha, ha.
Yeah.
Yeah, I love a dirty martini.
The best dirty martin.
I used to, like, hate olives.
Hate, hate olives, more than anything in the world.
Then I went to this hotel in London called...
How could you hate olives with a passion?
I just found them quite disgusting.
They're so good.
It's my favorite thing.
Are they really?
I could eat a bowl of olives.
But I have another friend.
See how I said another friend?
I have another friend who also hates olives.
and is like passionate about it.
I'm like, that is such a bizarre thing to be, like, angry.
Can I tell you what it is?
The texture doesn't match the taste.
Do you ever drink beer?
Like, to seem cool sometimes.
Yeah.
Like, if I'm with a guy, he's, like, having a beer, like, I'm like, okay.
Yeah.
You know, like, I'll get involved.
But, like, no.
I had this one friend who dropped two or three olives into a beer because the, like,
the salty kind of thing with the beer.
Yeah, I'd kill myself.
I tried it one time.
It's actually, it's interesting.
It's not bad, but it's not particularly good either.
That's like giving ketchup on pizza.
That's crazy to me.
That is also crazy to me.
I mean, but at least ketchup is still kind of tomato sauce.
I used to hate cherry tomatoes.
I love them now.
What else did you use to hate that you now love?
Oh my God.
Love that question.
Cherry tomatoes, olives, still hate beets.
cottage cheese.
I used to like, uh-uh.
You used to hate it.
Now you love it.
Well, I had never tried it because it just bugged me out so bad.
Do you like Indian food?
More than anything.
My favorite Indian dish is panir, which is basically cottage cheese cubes and some sort of sauce, right?
And I have always hated cottage cheese.
And then I had panir and I was like, this is the greatest thing.
I was like, it's cottage cheese.
Didn't know that.
I'm like, what?
I've been lied to my entire life to myself.
I don't think I've ever had panier.
I love Burani.
And I love, of course,
I'm Deky Masala.
I love Papa Dom.
It's my favorite snack in the entire world with the chutney.
So satisfying.
So satisfying.
And I haven't been able to find this anywhere.
There's this one place in New York.
Have you ever been to Swigat in New York?
I have not.
Okay, it's on the Upper West Side.
It's one of my favorite Indian food in the entire world.
And they have this thing called Puri or Puri.
Pondipori.
Yeah.
And it's like this bread and you pop it.
And it's like really hot.
It's got like a...
They're like this big?
Or are you talking about a big?
No, the big, the big one.
Okay.
And I love lamb Corma.
Very nice.
I'm going to have Indian food tonight.
From where?
We order from a place called La Murch.
Shout out La Murch.
Okay.
It's in the valley.
Please, I need the wrecks because I...
It's so good.
And my wife approves that.
She's obviously...
knows her stuff in Indian food.
She approves of this place.
Okay, I would tell...
Will you send this to me?
Yeah.
What's your favorite type of food?
Um, favorite type of food is...
Number one spot would be Thai food now.
Used to be Italian.
It's been taken over by Thai food.
You know what?
I have to agree.
It's so good.
I have to agree.
Mine is Thai in Japanese.
Those two.
Those two really do it for me.
I agree.
My order is Thai, Italian, Indian, Japanese, everything else.
French.
I don't know.
Everything else.
Yeah.
I don't like French food.
Really?
What is French food?
French fries
Those are good
I don't count
Come on
There's a place in the valley
That'll change your mind
About this I think
Called
It's called
Petitois
Oh I've heard of
Petitre
Petitre
Petitre
It's really good
And it's a great
environment in there
But there's a dish
Called
Do you like fish
Go for the dish first
Okay
It's called like a trout
Almondine or something
It's so good
It's like
citrus
See?
Nope, God.
No?
Nope.
Buttery?
What?
Like butter?
But yes.
Have you had the Dover Sole at Georgia Ovaldi?
Yes.
That is a fish I like.
It's very good.
Yeah.
But I guess I do like this one French place.
Oh, I don't know if it's Italian.
Have you ever been to La Petit Maison?
I have.
So that's my favorite restaurant in the entire world, despite it not being my favorite food category.
Where is it?
There's one in Cannes.
There's one in London.
It's very chic.
I know.
That's why I said it.
Yeah.
It's like Bonnie Bear.
Right?
I'm so happy you had that reaction.
Do you like Bonnie Bear?
Yeah, I do.
First of all, is your full name, Nicholas?
It is.
Okay, cool, because I called you it within the first few minutes,
and I've been thinking about it ever since.
Because I'm like, what if his full name is a Nicholas?
Because there's a lot of Jakes that aren't Jacob.
You're Jake.
Jacob.
Jacob.
Jacob Roshko.
He sounded like a villain.
That's a good name.
It's not as good as Jake Shane.
Of course.
Yeah.
That's a good.
Do you know Debbie Ryan?
Yeah, not well, but we've met many times and hung before.
Her and I, we share a lot of similarities.
How so?
Have you ever seen her red carpet interviews?
Oh, yeah, I love those.
Yeah.
So we call those my Debbie moments.
Right then and there, Debbie.
That's fabulous.
Yeah.
She's great.
and the one with the Disney Channel,
and that one is so good.
Made history?
Yeah, that's what we did.
I love it.
Was she Radio Rebel?
She was Radio Rebel.
Queen.
Shout to Debbie Ryan.
She's awesome.
Who do you keep in touch with from the Disney Days?
Some of the cast of Camp Rock come out for Jonas Con, which was...
What?
Jonas Con.
Tell me about Jonas Con.
I think we actually tried to get...
You to come to Jonas Con.
I think you did.
I must,
I think I...
To moderate, like a...
I think I was on tour.
Yeah, it was basically like,
you know,
what it sounds like,
just a convention
where it was all Jonas Brothers stuff
to celebrate the 20 years.
As a part of that,
some of the camp broadcast came out,
um,
which was crazy.
So keep in touch with them.
But outside of that,
not really anyone.
Wow,
it's like high school.
Yeah,
we've all,
I mean,
we've all grown up and kind of,
everyone's found their own sort of path in life and journey.
and it's beautiful to see it.
Everyone seems to be doing well.
Tell me about Camp Rock 3.
Camp Rock 3.
What can you tell me about Camp Rock 3?
It is, I can tell you a lot about it.
I'm thrilled that it's happening because, you know,
those two movies, Camp Rock 1 and 2,
really meant a lot to a lot of people all over the world.
And it was this incredible, big Disney thing
that we got to be a part of.
And, you know, to then now pass the 12th.
courts on to a new generation is really a special thing.
And so the concept of the movie is basically that,
I don't want to give too much away,
but, you know, we lose our opening act for our big tour
the start of the movie, and then it's basically about the new generation.
Oh, and you go to the camp to find?
Yeah.
It's so fun.
So then it's all about them, and they basically take it over,
and they're so talented these kids,
and it was so cool to see.
you know, the spark at this early stage in their lives and careers and what it's going to become
because they're going to be massive stars in a matter of no time.
And, you know, I'm really excited for a whole new generation of people to be introduced to this movie.
Do these kids know, like, who are starring in it, what Camp Rock 1 and 2 meant to us?
I think they really do understand the gravity of it, the weight of it, you know, and what it meant to,
sort of this generation and what it will mean to the next as well.
Yeah, that's beautiful.
Are you watching any of the Oscar Noms this year?
Do you ever do like...
I watched, I think most of them.
What's your faves so far?
I thought...
I thought one battle after the other was excellent.
I would love to work with Paul, Tom Sanderson,
on something someday he'll be a dream.
I thought that Timothy Chalemay was
transcendent and Marty Supreme.
Just an absolutely magnificent performance
and so entertaining but also nuanced and just great.
I thought he was really good.
And then what else have I seen that I really loved?
Have you seen train dreams?
I have not seen that yet.
You have to watch train dreams.
Is it really emotional?
I'm going to like cry and stuff?
Well, have you seen Hamnet?
I have not seen that either.
Okay.
Because I was about to say it's less emotional than having it, but it's pretty emotional.
It's just, oh, you would love it.
It's so good.
It's really so good.
I just know that, like, you know, I've been traveling a lot this month.
It was on, like, three 14 plus hour flights, and so I, like, had a lot of things I needed to watch.
But when you're, like, away from your family and you're on a plane by yourself, it's like,
you just end up getting so depressed if you watch a really sad movie.
So I have to, like, space it out.
What's the worst travel day you've ever had?
Well, I've done now.
three trips from the U.S. or Canada to India.
And how long is that flight?
Three trips where I went was on the ground for less than 12 hours and flew back.
So in the course of 72 hours, I was on the plane in transit for longer than I was on the ground.
It was rough.
But like, what's a travel day that you're like?
I'm really curious to know what...
Like, I'm about to blow this bitch up.
Oh, yeah.
Like, where you're like, I am going to genuinely crash out.
Like, everything is going wrong.
Like, yeah, I have an answer to that.
So I got on a plane.
I was flying from L.A. to Texas.
Something had just happened that had me really bummed out.
I can't remember exactly what the thing was.
So apparently it wasn't that big a deal.
But I was really bummed out.
And I was traveling by myself.
I was like 17 or 18, which is not something I often did.
because we, you know, most times we have, like, somebody to travel with us for, for, you know, security or assistance, something like that.
And I was just by myself.
So I get on the plane.
I'm already, like, bummed.
I order a coffee, and I go up to use the bathroom.
And mind you, I'm wearing white pants on the plane, which is, like, a first mistake.
So, granted.
I come back to the bathroom, the coffee's there.
And as I'm sitting down, I, like, my jacket must have hit it or something.
And it fell into my seat.
the coffee yeah it fell to my seat and it was it was it was already in motion i was like here
sitting down and it went ahead so then it was just in my like on my butt like soggy butt from this
fucking and it was white it was hot the coffee was hot and i was just like already so bummed and i remember
just looking at the person next to me and they had this look of like so sorry like it was like
genuine like oh and i just started crying oh i just was like
Were they comforted?
They put their hand on my back
And I'm just like
It was really funny
Now, I mean it's funny now
But I was so angry
And the flight was super turbulent
I'm not good with turbulence
You love turbulence
You love turbulence
Why?
It's like you're like a roller coaster
Like rocking the sleep
See my daughter
She's four
She is the same way
And I think it's amazing
What's her birthday?
Just passed January 15th
Oh Capricorn
Yeah
She loves turbanus
She puts her hands up like this
And she thinks it's a ride
Yes it is a rock
It stresses me out.
It is a ride.
But yeah.
I was about to say, what's the worst that could happen?
But plane crash, you know.
I think we know, yeah.
Are you ever scared of plane crash?
Actually, Glenn Powell once told me a story.
You guys were flying and you had to land and the pilot came out and was like, we literally almost just like seriously died.
It was super hot in the cabin.
And we were sitting in the tournament for a while.
It was the middle of summer.
And we basically took off.
And I could tell right away something.
off because we were not going fast enough.
And I was like, what is, what is going on?
So someone went up to check, and the pilots were like, just waving him back to a seat,
and he came back, and he was scared, shitless.
And basically, one of, there's two power sources on a plane.
And that's basically every plane is what I've been told.
And one of them failed, and the other then failed.
so they were they were pulling the whatever it's called the steering wheel i guess back to to keep the
plane in the air because we're just gliding back basically to the to the airport but we were not far
enough away that we could we could get back and we were all thankfully safely on the ground but
the pilots were were visibly shaken up and it was actually like pretty frightening oh i'm so sorry
actually yeah it was fucking terrifying that is so scary yeah on the contrary
Do you guys still make your popcorn?
Yes.
It is delicious.
I'm glad you like it.
Rob's backstage popcorn.
Shout out.
Yes, it is amazing.
Have you had this popcorn?
They served it on the flight to the Jonas Brothers concert in Vegas that I went to with Larry.
And I thought, this is just delicious.
It's so good.
It is so, so good.
And we're building out more backstage brand stuff.
So there'll be more.
We love snacks.
I love snacks.
Which favorite snack?
Not olives.
Popcorn.
I've never really been a Pirates Booty fan.
But your daughter.
Daughter loves it, and so I started eating it, and I'm like, this is great.
Have you ever had the veggie one?
Fire.
I like veggie sticks.
Those are.
I'm so sorry.
You don't like those?
You didn't know those I'm talking about.
They're like a...
Of course.
Yes.
The ranch flavor's really good.
Zesty ranch.
It's called zesty ranch.
It's so good.
Yeah.
It's not for you.
It's like the peat.
Peas snaps.
You know, the little pea snaps.
I don't like those.
I hate those.
Those can.
Yeah.
No disrespect.
You've earned your place on the shelf.
And I hate sun chips.
Really?
Yeah.
Hate.
That's interesting.
I would have thought you would like a sunship.
Why would you think that?
Because it's, they're yummy and you like other things that taste like that.
Like what?
Like popcorn can taste like that?
No, popcorn does not taste like sun chips.
I don't know.
Sorry.
I feel like I'm yelling at you.
I'm sorry.
I'm having me.
great time. Well, Nick, what are you
therapist about today? I have a Zit.
Where? Right here.
Oh my God, I thought that was a mole.
That's a Zit. It's just so annoying. It's like, it's like
pressure on there too, so it.
Oh, it hurts. Are you, are you, do you, are you
to pop it? I like to pop zits.
Well, you have great skin.
Thank you. Thank you. So do you.
I can tell you've been drinking a lot of water.
Yep.
Everyone keeps telling you that, right?
Everyone.
Wait, but I really thought that was a mole. So shout out,
your hair and makeup because it looks it died never thought for a second that it was as it yeah it's it's it's so
annoying that's what i'm pissed about today okay well i'm pissed about there's the show i want to watch
and i'm so behind and it's like the traders and i really want to watch it but i'm so behind so i have to
watch all i have to catch up and catching up on a show that's like live on air is just so annoying
it's frustrating it's so hard to do it's so frustrating the most intense time i ever had to do that was
Did you ever watch Scandal?
No.
I...
Add to list.
But I get it.
Add to list.
So what do you watch?
Yeah, what do I even watch?
What do you watch?
I watched Squid Games, which I loved.
I never finished it out.
So good.
Did you finish it?
I did.
How was the ending?
Um, satisfying.
Satisfine?
Yeah.
I don't want to give anything away.
People watch.
Um, but it was, it was satisfying.
I've also started watching Pluribus.
Okay.
Me too.
I, I haven't.
finished it yet, but I love Vince Gilligan.
Galligan, Gilligan, whatever.
Gilligan? Okay, cool. I love him,
because I love Breaking Bad. Have you seen Breaking Bad?
I have started Breaking Bad twice and...
Okay, so let me tell you why it's so good.
Because back in the day, before
people would like cancel shows after one season,
they used to like let them breathe.
And like Breaking Bad gets really,
really, really, really, really good in season three.
Isn't that a... It's just tough to be...
No, no, it's so worth it. It's so worth it.
It's so worth it.
Two seasons from now,
it's gonna be a,
it's kind of like...
A similar show is...
I know Breaking Bad's the best show ever made.
It is.
I'm giving it the respect it deserves.
I'm just saying the concept of like,
oh, just...
Because even someone else said something recently,
I was Kevin, Jonas.
He's like, oh, you just have to stick with it.
There's like a, you know,
it dips for like three, four episodes.
And then it's, I'm like,
these are hours of my life.
I'm not just gonna commit to it.
Like, I could be...
You have to. It's so worth it.
There are these moments that you're just,
it feels like God is coming down
and holding you.
Yeah.
And being like,
isn't this show so good?
Like,
but I've been recently more and more.
I've just been turning shit off.
Me too.
If I get 20 minutes in.
Wow, really loud.
Sorry.
This is the voice of God.
Yeah.
If I get 20 minutes in and it doesn't hook me.
I used to stick with it and like watch the whole thing.
Now I was like,
I got other options.
Okay.
Can I give you a good rack?
Yeah.
Industry.
I watched the first season of industry
I need to watch the next two
Similar to Breaking Bad
It only gets better
It only gets season three
I mean
I have actually really fond memory of industry
Because I
We were my wife in our house
And power went out
In our neighborhood
And we did like a date night
Candle it at our home
With the iPad on watching industry
And it was like
So sweet
So sweet
How'd you guys meet?
We met on Twitter
What?
So I was driving
Driving down Sunset Boulevard, and I saw the poster for Quantico.
She was on it.
I was like, wow, she's gorgeous.
Mutual friend of ours was like, you guys should meet.
You really hit it off.
And I was like, connect us.
And he never did, actually.
But it was enough of an indication for me to know, okay, so that maybe the door's open there
because she seemed to be into the idea as well.
Anyway, I went on Twitter and saw what she followed me.
Past feeling ever.
Yeah, I was pumped.
And then I.
direct message to her.
She got back to me shortly thereafter.
And we were just friends for like a year and a half, two years.
How do you have the patience?
So I reached out and was like, hey, can we give us a real go?
And go on a date, you know.
And she was like, yeah, I'll be in, um,
I'll be in L.A. next week.
And, and we had, we'd already gone to the Met Gala together, basically,
because we were both dressed by Ralph Lauren.
Shout out Ralph Lauren.
Um,
Out Sydney?
Sydney, yeah.
Sydney's special.
So we go on this date, we go to, I said up, I'm like, hey, let's go see the live version of Beauty and the Beast at the Hollywood Bowl, which was a fun first date idea.
I was like, but let's bring some friends.
So it's like less pressure.
So it was like a group hang.
In case like she, it wasn't the vibe.
Oh, respectful.
And so she brought her best friend.
I brought Kevin.
and another couple friend of ours, Greg and Paris.
And we had like the absolute best time at the show.
We went for a drink somewhere after,
and Joe knew I was really excited about the state,
so he sent us shots of milk from wherever he was in the world,
which was hilarious.
Shots of milk?
Yeah, like an inside joke.
It's like, I don't know, he just thought it would be funny.
And it kind of was.
Yeah, and then Kevin was being a wingman.
Good for Kevin.
But he was, yeah, he was just, oh,
overly hyping me up though in front of her.
She's like, oh, he's like, you know,
someone would bring up like baseball or something.
Kevin would be like, oh, Nick could have gone pro.
He could have been a pro baseball player.
His most Jersey thing ever.
And it was very sweet.
She obviously was like, your brother's really like gassing you well.
He's like, he wants this to go well.
And then it did.
And now you're married.
We French kissed that night.
Chills.
Wait, so are you from north, south, or central Jersey?
North Jersey.
Is that near Philly?
Sorry, what are you counting?
Like, I was just...
I like this.
It's not near...
Is north near New York?
Yes, it was 45 minutes from the city.
Oh, okay, okay.
We have a friend that lives in South Jersey.
South Jersey is like a different...
Yeah, you guys call...
Yeah, the pork roll, Taylorham.
Tenerham?
Taylorham.
Taylorham.
What do you guys call it?
Taylorham.
I call it Taylorham.
Yes.
Pork roll sounds...
crazy to me.
Pork roll.
But people are really passionate about this argument,
and it's a whole thing.
It, like, divides the state.
It really does.
Like, people are really insane about it.
They're really insane about it.
Like, really and truly.
Have you ever tried it?
A pork roll?
Taylor ham.
Oh, I guess I call it a pork roll.
Yeah, I have.
No, I haven't.
I lied.
It's like, um, it's just like ham.
But ultra-processed.
Well, the weird part is, it's not, the pork roll or Taylorham is just the meat.
Right, it's what goes in it that matters.
It's delicious and it's got so much salt in it.
It's just incredible.
Like on an egg sandwich, Taylor ham egg and cheese, what you say?
Oh, I would get a bacon, egg and cheese in the morning.
Yeah, so it's just Taylor ham.
It's the same thing.
Same idea.
Yeah.
Okay, should we get into the tummy, which wrongs?
Mm-hmm.
Do you know what those are?
I think so.
It's like, we're,
people write in and we give advice.
Yeah.
Okay, do you care if I go pee because I have a really small bladder?
I don't care at all.
Okay, I'm gonna go pee now.
Do your thing.
Okay.
I've been with my boyfriend for over three years now and he hates PDA, but I really don't.
He won't kiss me or even hold my hand in public unless he's drunk.
Okay.
Even that it's not for long, it makes me feel like he's embarrassed being with me.
I'm his first boyfriend as he's ever only dated, oh, as he has only ever dated girls in the past.
What do I do, girl, girl, I can take this one.
Yes.
You can't.
It's time to break up.
It's internalized homophobia.
You don't think it's breakup?
No, please speak.
She's a gay man trapped in a woman's body.
Yeah, it's his new thing.
I don't know if breaking up is, I think it's about the conversation with them.
It's like I understand where you're coming from, you know, like I don't think you just break up.
Like, if it is internalized.
homophobia and maybe even like some insecurity,
I think they should work, talk and work through it.
Yeah, I know what I mean.
Yeah, no, totally.
I love PDA because it makes me so like I can't,
I wouldn't be able to do that.
Do you like PDA?
I do.
Yeah.
I mean, I don't know.
It's kind of a weird thing that's like it.
I like being affectionate with my wife, you know, but, but,
you ever think about writing a book?
I would love to.
You have a way with words.
Sorry, continue.
I co-sign these takes.
Which one?
Well, you're saying the same thing, right?
I said breakup.
You're saying have a conversation first, but it probably leads to a breakup.
I hate conversations.
Well, not like, in general.
In general, like, in general, like, in general.
Homophobia has no place anywhere, so.
No.
No, it does not.
Zero.
See you.
Have you ever seen Hillary Duff's?
Hey, you can't say that.
Iconic.
Iconic.
I can't.
My friend is always in a bad mood because she's always hung over and sick, so she's an alcoholic.
In return, she makes my life miserable, which sucks, and I kind of want to give it back to her by getting her fired from her job, by telling upper management that she comes in drunk sometimes.
Also, maybe telling her boyfriend that she actually hates him.
So what the fuck is wrong with you?
This would be my way of dumping her as a friend.
Okay.
Oh, also, she is my manager too, and then I would get to just quit after.
Is this insane?
I obsessed, by the way, let me just say something really quickly,
obsessed with the context given.
Because I was so confused.
So let me, do you understand that?
Or do you need me to paint the picture?
I need the picture painted.
Okay.
This girl and her best friend work at the same job, right?
And the best friend is the manager.
The best friend is the manager.
The alcoholic one.
The alcoholic one.
And so she wants to tell upper management that she's a mess.
So at the end of the day, it just sounds like she's not your friend.
It sounds really messy.
and like, like, there's already, she wants, she wants revenge.
She was, you know what I mean?
I'm curious, does she want that job?
Is that the hidden motive behind them?
Well, it could be.
She wants to get her fire so she can slip in there and be the manager.
But what would you, like, what would you do?
This is, oh my God, like, what would you do?
I don't know what I would do.
I wouldn't tell up her management.
That is so sneaky.
I think.
And bad karma, too.
Yeah.
I think it's bad, it's bad news all around.
I think you probably probably.
probably just need to have a conversation
like, hey, your behavior is crazy.
Chill the fuck out.
Or I'm going to go tell over management
that you've been drinking the job.
A threat.
But it doesn't sound like there's any HR department
at this place, because she's just about to go nuts.
She could anonymously report if there was.
Yeah.
Or maybe there is an HR and then that's the best path.
Yeah.
Maybe? I don't know.
Yeah.
My roommate talks to her hamster like it's a human.
I thought this was kind of cute
first, but she has full conversations with it and laughs at what the hamster and laughs at what
the hamster quote says.
It's starting to freak me out a little, actually a lot.
And I'm wondering if I need to talk to her or something or if I should just let it be.
Like, is this a bit or is she crazy?
I just like let go and let God.
If it makes her happy.
If it makes her happy.
But it would, it would concern me to live with someone.
Live with someone who you thought might be a complete, like, cycle person.
I don't say psychopath
because that gives it like a distinct thing
Are you scared of getting canceled?
Cancelable
For you saying psychopath
But it's
It sounds like that
Okay
So what would I prescribe to that?
What's the thing where they talk to animals?
Babe
What was that?
The Eddie Murphy movie
Doolittle?
Yeah, Doolittle
I prescribed Doolittle
Detective Doolittle?
Detective Doolittle.
I loved that movie.
My mother gets really flirty
with my friends
whenever she's had some wine
and we're over visiting
Sometimes it's funny
but sometimes she goes a little too far into the quote bit saying things like,
you're exactly the type I would have gone after in college, etc, as a joke.
But I don't know if it's a joke and it's so embarrassing.
She just brushes it off by saying I'm sensitive every time I bring it up.
So what do I do?
Well, your mom is gaslighting you, my dear.
Right?
I can need some more context on this one too.
I would just stop bringing my friends over and be like,
and if she's like, why do you stop bringing your friends over?
It's because like you're weird and they think you're weird too.
That's the always way to get someone.
they also think it like that's what you have to say they think so too because it's you it's like well they don't think that
no everyone's been talking about it actually and they all think that and then she'll be like so embarrassed and be like oh my god really they think that because they're the one she's trying to impress so you have to be like they all think that that's why they're not coming over anymore
I had someone say that to me one time like uh and you know everyone I'm like hello I just talked to everybody nobody nobody brought that I I didn't
isn't it the most counter-reacting feeling
But I wasn't even
slightly convinced.
I was like, actually, I just
had a little quorum with everyone
talked about this and nobody said that.
You're such a Virgo.
Yeah.
You are such a Virgo.
That is the most Virgo thing ever.
Like they wouldn't say it to your face.
I'm like, but they would.
But would they?
Yeah.
All my friends are hooking up with my twin brother.
Oh, that's weird.
One of my best friends who was staying with me
literally left my room while I was asleep
and slept with him.
I'm a very non-confrontational person,
but it's been like six of my closest friends.
Oh my God,
your brother must be so hot.
Six of my closest friends
who have hooked up with him.
How do I get them to stop?
Please help sending love from South Africa.
It is so funny that this person is from South Africa
because I had to do a South African accent
in an audition I filmed right before this.
How to go?
horribly.
It's a tough accent.
Mani said, you sound Southern.
It was really, really, it was rough.
Tough auditions are...
But it was a self.
tape so like you know.
Still.
But okay, so I would say to my friends like,
but I don't know, honestly.
That's a tough one.
Sounds like your friends might be more into.
They're all hanging out with you for your brother.
Oh, girl.
That's tough.
New friends, I guess.
But then you have the threat.
The threat of like, my brother's hot.
That's so tricky thing.
There's a movie like this.
Clueless?
Yeah, I suppose.
Subscribe clue list.
Okay.
I got caught red-handed
in a very large web of lies.
Just so I didn't have to hang out
with this girl who likes me.
And by the way, save it with the
judgy stuff.
Damn, clocked me.
Because I'm just not like that.
I had told this girl I couldn't hang out
because I was sick.
Later that night, I went to the mall
to go see a movie.
And when I walked into the theater,
she's literally sitting there and sees me.
Oh!
I left and she followed me
and confronted me in the lobby.
Good.
for her.
I told her I lied because I like to go to the movies alone.
IDK some bullshit.
That didn't do well either because I literally went to the movies with her and her friends
the other week.
Anyways, how the fuck do I stop white lying?
Will you just stop?
You just stop.
But honestly, like, that's fine.
You didn't want to hang out with her.
What are you supposed to do?
Clearly, you were scared to tell her the truth that you didn't want to hang out with her,
so that's not your friend.
I tell my friends all the time.
I don't want to do this anymore.
I don't want to pay in my best friend.
Peyton was like, let's get a couple of massages on Valentine's Day before we go out to dinner and drink.
And I was like, I don't think I want to do that anymore.
So I said, I don't want to do that anymore.
It's going to make me tired.
They said, what?
She said, you're bizarre.
Sorry, that's such a funny way to put that.
You're unwell.
You're unwell.
Well, it's totally your, here's, I have a potentially controversial hot take.
Tell me.
It should be totally acceptable to be like, I like you, you're my friend.
I don't want to hang out tonight.
I just don't want,
it doesn't have to be like,
I have this other thing I'm doing.
Oh, okay.
Like, you don't have to,
right.
So you just be like,
hey,
what's,
we can,
let's be friend,
like nothing changes.
However,
tonight in particular or tomorrow,
I don't really want to do that thing.
I want to sit on my couch or do something else.
But I would say stop white lying now because it gets,
it gets to a point where they become bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger.
and then you don't know how to stop.
It's kind of like kleptomania.
Yeah.
I can't lie because my OCD.
I have to tell you when I'm lying.
I can't. I literally can't do it.
That's good, that's good, though.
It is, but it's also exhausting because sometimes I really would like to lie.
I'm sick, but I can't say I'm sick because then I'll get sick.
There's a movie that I'll prescribe to you.
Oh, tell me.
It's called The Invention of Lying.
Have you ever seen it?
No.
It's a Ricky Jervais movie.
And I've always thought it would be a great musical.
Well, hello, Mr. Broadway.
So if someone's watching this that has the rights to it, let me know.
But it's this whole idea that he's the first person who can lie in a world where everyone just says the truth.
Oh, I love that.
Oh, that would make a great musical.
It's so good.
You know what you should do before this episode drops?
You should inquire about the rights.
Yeah, I will.
Just to make sure because, like, you know, that is like a really good.
What a crazy story of like three years from now.
We're at the Broadway premiere.
I know.
You're there.
In it?
In the show.
Okay, period.
Do you have any advice for me on Broadway?
Because I'm like so stressed out, Loki.
You're going to crush it.
I mean, you have all the tools you need to,
to do a great job on Broadway.
Oh.
The only advice I would give you is just to, and this is going to sound so cliche,
but actually take some time to enjoy it.
It's like a crazy schedule, eight shows a week.
Yeah, yeah.
And it's a lot of work.
I'm stressed.
But it's so rewarding, and it's really important to, like, pat yourself on the back
and take a second in between shows some days just to, like, feel it,
because it's a pretty magical thing.
Okay, I'm really excited.
Will you come see the show?
If you're in New York?
Yeah, I'd love to.
Are you going to be in New York,
like, within the next month at all or no?
I'm sure I will be.
I don't know.
I don't have plans right this second to be in New York,
but I'm always there.
Will you let me know?
I'll let you know.
And I'll, hopefully,
you'll sign my play bill,
and I'll see you after the show.
I'm really upset with concert etiquette these days,
and last night it got out of hand.
I was in the pit, and I literally,
and I literally couldn't see anything,
because I'm sure and everyone is filming the stage.
Later in the evening, the artist literally pointed my sign out and laughed at it,
only for a total stranger next to me to take credit for it.
Oh!
Live music is so incredible and I know you feel the same.
So what in the world can I do to remedy this?
I don't know.
It's hard because in this day and age, if you confront someone,
like they could always be like filming you.
Yeah.
Being like, oh, nah.
And then you're like, oh, like, you know what I mean?
And so it's like so scared to, it's like a scary environment to speak your mind.
but I don't know.
I don't know if there's an answer for that.
I think we might just be fucked.
I fear that we're fucked as well.
Okay.
But concert etiquette is important.
And if you are on the shorter side,
let's get some platform heels or something and get some high-lifted shoes,
and that's going to help.
I'm so short.
With the sight line.
Some, you know, baby stilts.
How tall are you?
Five, eight.
Really?
But not quite.
You seem taller.
No way.
Yes, I'm five and three and I seem shorter.
You seem taller than five, three.
Really?
Yeah.
How tall, like, would you guess?
Like five, six or seven.
Shut up.
No, Nick.
Okay, stop.
Shut up.
Like, I just got out of my first serious relationship of seven years.
I'm post-grad now, and I've realized I don't know how to be single.
I have the perfect prescription for this.
Like at all.
My last few years of high school and the eternity of,
and the entirety of college was spent all with the same guy.
I don't want to talk about the breakup,
but what is a single girl in New York supposed to do?
I don't even know how to talk to people anymore,
much less flirt,
help watch How to Be Single with Dakota Johnson.
How to be single?
How to be single with Dakota Johnson.
When did that come out?
2015?
I'll check it out.
I totally just, like, made up a date.
That sounded right.
But you know the clip where she's like,
Home.
I'm going home.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's from that.
Got, got it.
Hey, Jake, an amazing guest.
You?
My screen time is out of control.
delete apps like Instagram and TikTok to
TikTok to stay off of them, and at the end
of the day, I've redownloaded them.
It's so bad.
I'm just staying up late into the night scrolling.
I know you love your phone, but what,
but what do you do to not let it consume your entire
life? I've tried the
thing where it limits your screen time.
It doesn't work. It doesn't work. You just immediately
X out of that, like I'll do it tomorrow.
The advice
that I've been
given by others, because I've said
the same thing with my screen time is out of control,
is to leave your phone in another
room when you sleep. Can't do it?
No. So what I, my
advice is
to watch a television show and get invested
into a television show or read a book
or watch a movie. You know,
like obviously you like to be alone with your thoughts
and that's why you like your phone
right? You don't,
you're making a face. You don't agree.
Okay.
So,
So I would start a TV show.
Start a TV show.
Yeah, that's how I get off my phone, specifically subtitled.
Start Dark, so you can't go on your phone
or else you don't know what they're saying.
And don't dub it, because that makes it worse.
Have you ever seen Dark?
No.
The greatest show of all time.
You ever seen Lupin?
It's a French Netflix show.
No, but I've heard of it.
What's that about?
Like, it's based on a book series,
a very famous French book series.
Called Lupin.
And he's like a detective slash thief, whatever.
It's so good.
Good. You must watch it.
I'll watch it.
Ever since being hired, I've been making an effort to be friends with my manager,
but she's made it so hard with her attitude.
But I always just gave her the benefit of the doubt.
A couple of weeks ago, she fired the closest friend I work with,
and ever since it's been so awkward.
Mind you, we're the same age,
and it seems like she's just trying to get rid of me.
She wasn't always like this, by the way,
but last night she just blamed her fuck up on me to the big boss.
Now I'm in trouble.
What do I do quit if you can?
That sounds horrible.
Or tell on her.
The same age details.
Yeah.
She's like trying to like be better than yeah not a vibe.
Hey Jake and guest.
I'm 23 and wondering how does one get over the fear of being loved and start to open up for a potential relationship?
I'm a happy person but feel so isolated from others because I don't get dating.
Like it often seems embarrassing and like a waste of time and I'd rather just stick to myself.
However, I know I can't live like this forever.
So what are some tips?
I have none.
So I'm just going to.
That's for you.
It is a scary thing to open up and be vulnerable with, with, with,
people and to allow the possibility of heartbreak down the line should it not work out.
YOLO.
Really?
Yeah, you only live once.
Do you remember when that dropped?
That was fire.
The world shifted.
It's kind of like Ed Hardy now.
It's like ironic, like you could say it and it's funny.
But at the time.
At the time, it was like for serious.
It was very serious.
But I do think that that's kind of true, though.
It's like, you know, what's that famous quote?
Is it better to...
Not tried.
He never loved it all.
Yes.
That one.
What's your favorite quote of all time?
Favorite quote of all time.
Well, it's from my favorite movie of all time.
Goodwill Hunting.
I had to go see about a girl.
It's a great line.
What is it?
So Robin Williams tells Matt Damon's character of a story
about how he didn't go to this baseball game with all his friends.
And they, you know, it was a legendary game that he missed.
and all his friends were like upset with him for not going
and then Matt Damon is basically like
what did your friends say?
When you told him he said nothing.
He's like, what did you tell him?
He's like, told him I had to go see about a girl.
So later on in the movie when Matt Damon does the same thing,
takes that leap of faith and goes and chases after this girl.
He leaves a note for his old friend.
Oh my God.
I don't think I've ever seen Goodwill Hunting.
Well, you just saw it.
I just, the one man play.
It's a great, great movie.
I think my favorite quote of all time is the banana peel one I have.
Love that.
Maybe the quote that Hannah says about, wait, what do I have the favorite quote?
It's probably the Lena Denham one.
Anything you could have said to me, I've already said to myself 10 times in the past hour.
Also, I don't even know if that's right, but also the entirety of the Taylor Swift song, The Archer,
that entire thing as a quote, I could have that tattooed all over my body.
all of my enemies started out friends help me hold on to you that's nice and that that really does it for me
that was the end of the tell me what's wrongs well that was fun did you have fun i had a great time
i had a really good time with you i'm glad to hear that oh did you have a good time i had a great
time with you okay cool it was super fun learned a lot what you what did we learn today i learned about
plotting against your manager.
And that was crazy, actually.
Right?
Kind of wild.
No, I learned a lot about you.
I got to ask you a lot of questions as well, which was nice,
which I hoped it would be conversation and less like an interview.
So I'm glad it was a nice conversation.
Did you feel as so it was?
I felt like we had a great conversation.
I learned a lot about you.
Okay.
I learned a lot about you too, and I kind of want to like hang out now.
Yeah, let's go get Indian food.
Should we?
Would you?
I have to go sign CDs.
No, no, not right now, totally.
Like, I meant, like, you know, eventually.
Sign cities.
I have to go handprint albums, actually, which is, in theory,
it was like a really fun idea because there's a song called handprints in the album.
It's great.
Thank you.
I swear to God, like, doing this over and over again for, like, two or three hours.
I'm getting carpal tunnel in my hand.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah.
Well, I learned about the Disney Channel games and send it on.
Love it.
And I also learned about the process behind your new album, Sunday Best, which is out now.
Out now.
And Nick.
Break a leg on Broadway.
Thank you. And thank you for coming on Therapas.
Thanks for having me. My posies.
