Starting point is 00:00:01 Three, two, one. In case you missed it, the blindfold was a reference to Sandra Bullock's bird box. Tonight's episode's a very special... Oh, let me. No, you go. Tonight's episode's a very special episode. We have Nicole Kinman and Sandra Bullock. These are two of my favorite actors, two of Jake's favorite actors.
Starting point is 00:00:37 And yes, I was too nervous to come the day you were recording. I majorly regret it. I don't think I'll ever get that opportunity. again, but... When Nicole and Sandra, when this opportunity arose, I at first was like, I can't do this. And you were the one that was like, yes, you can't. I was like, are you out of your mind to not do that?
Starting point is 00:00:57 Right. And so I'm just so like, I'm starstruck, really starstruck by people like that. Nicole, like Sandra obviously is like... Well, your first car was named Sandra Bullock. What's your favorite... Shout out Muffy. She helped me name my first car. What's your favorite Sandra Bullock movie?
Starting point is 00:01:11 You don't care. Like I said shout-in Muffie, you just... I care, I just... You love Muffy. I love Muffy. What are your favorite movies from both the actresses here today? My favorite Nicole used to be Eyes Wide Chuck. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:01:31 And now I think I've reverted back to my Moul-Ruge days. Okay. And Moul-Rouge was like sort of an awakening for me as a kid. Like, that movie is... It's... Like, it's formative for a kid who wanted to do, like, theater. when he was younger and stuff. And yeah, I love Ewan McGregor.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I love Nicole. I think that movie's really major. And it's the reason it was like the birth of my Bazelerman phase. Right. Right. And you love Baz. I think he's a terrific director, yeah. My favorite Nicole Kinman movie is The Others.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Wow. Yeah. And then my favorite Sandra Bullock movie. When did you watch The Others? When I was like eight. Wow. My favorite, and then my favorite Sandra Bullitt. Do you like Practical Math?
Starting point is 00:02:15 Magic one. Love. Yeah. Let's talk about it. Well, we do in that. I'm sure you do. My favorite Sandra Bullock movie is Premonition. Wow, that's a crazy select.
Starting point is 00:02:28 It's premonition. I mean, she's terrific in that. Sandra Bullock is like really my girl. Yeah. Really my girl. Oh, honestly, I'm so sorry. I take it back. My favorite Sandra Bullock movie is Birdbox.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Really? Your favorite one? My favorite of all time. Birdbox is one of my favorite movies of all time. Would it go on your letterbox for? It could, yeah. What would you say if you got asked for your letterbox for? Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:51 That's a good question. And I feel like nobody asked him that. My letterbox for would be devil wears Prada, bridesmaids. Birdbox, apparently. Bird box. I love that movie. I just think it's so I love apocalyptic stuff. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Oh my God. Love. But then I, you know what I said that the other day and then I said, yeah, and I like a quiet place and you said, mm-mm. I don't like a quiet place. Okay, well. I just don't love how they have to be quiet. the whole time. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:16 So it's more like you're imagining yourself in that scenario and you know you'd be dead. Yes. Right. Okay. Immediately. Yeah. No, you'd be like one of those characters where it's like, wait, what's going on? And then I'd be like, no.
Starting point is 00:03:30 No, you would make it into like the local restaurant where everyone's hiding and everyone's like, you would make it there. Like, yeah, I'm not saying you'd be the one getting out of the car screaming. You'd genuinely be like, okay, we have to be quiet. Yeah. But then we would get to the restaurant and like, we'd all be hiding. And we'd all be like, okay, this thing is going to kill us if we're not silent. It's like crawling on the ceiling or whatever.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Yeah. And then you'd sort of like something absurd would come out of your mouth. And you would make a noise. Yeah. But I don't know if it would be like totally on purpose. I just think it's your nature to like speak. Get like at least half of the room's eyes on you, which is a talent. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Wow, you just reframed my day. Your day? Yeah, I was having a horrible day. You want to know my favorite movie franchise of all times? Yeah. The Purge. No. No.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Yep. My dream is to star in a Purge movie. Okay. Because I think the Purge won, or like the Purge movie that we were also gagged by, is terrific. They're all terrific. Every single one of them. Election year? I don't know what my favorite franchise is, but you didn't ask me my favorite Sandra Bullock movie.
Starting point is 00:04:36 I did. I know I never got the chance to answer. So what was yours? Okay. I think it is a tie between gravity. Yeah, because I know that rocked your shit. Gravity I saw in theaters. I saw it in theaters, too.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Gravity falls under my favorite type of movie, which is what would you do? But in which apocalyptic slash space movie, would you do anything but die? Yeah, like. Let's get real. I know I would probably falter to conditions around me, but it's fun to think about. Like, what would you do? Yeah, there's like a world in which I actually think that you would make it pretty far and something like the Hunger Games.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Hunger Games, I can see myself making it. I don't think you'd be a diva. Like, I think you would kind of just be like, well, here we go. I'm going to sharpen my teeth and bite these bitches. Yeah. Yeah. In honor of practical magic too,
Starting point is 00:05:27 if you were able to have one magical power, what would it be? I like the idea of flying. Okay. Simply for the feeling. Uh-huh. Not because I want to get somewhere quicker, which I would use it for, obviously.
Starting point is 00:05:43 But like, it's not because of that. because I really want to feel like a bird. My ideal superpower, magic power would be telekinesis. Telekinesis. Yeah. Anyway, I'm so honored to be the, would you call this opening act? Yeah, I guess. We should call it opening act instead of intro.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Oh, intro. There you go. I'm so honored to be the intro and opening act for Nicole and Sandra. Yeah, they are so legendary. I think it's so unbelievably iconic that you're having them on. I feel like there's some of our last great movie stars. Absolutely. Don't really exist anymore.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Well, I think I hate this. Movie stars don't exist anymore thing because I think the world is just changing and the world around the concept of a movie star is changing. And so, like, the idea of them is changing and how you get there is changing. Okay. I do think that, like, like, Everyone's kind of a multi-hyphenate these days. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:46 But like I said, there are pros and cons, because then it brings into this, like, then people are going to the movie to see a movie. Right. Obsession. Obsessed. You think you're obsessed with me. So I asked like a minute. And I said, me too.
Starting point is 00:07:02 I'm obsessed with me, eat as much as you. Bar. Yeah. Yeah, actual bar. Bar. You know what's interesting that we spoke about is how, Both of them never thought Practical Magic 2 would ever be a thing. And the reason it became a thing was because it had this cult following on, like, online.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And that's why the studio was like, let's make a second one. I love that movie. Me too. I'm actually really excited for the second one. It's really amazing. When is it out? Yeah, no, it's out on September 11th. It's brilliant.
Starting point is 00:07:34 It's magical. Practical Magic 2 is brilliant. It's amazing. It's magical. And you loved. Love the soundtrack's unbelievable. Well, Charlie. Nolan, can you look up?
Starting point is 00:07:44 Up, bird box monologue to boy and girl. Listen to me, we're going on a trip now. It's going to be rough. Okay, ready? Listen to me. We're going on a trip now. It's going to be rough. If you hear something in the woods, you tell me.
Starting point is 00:08:01 If you hear something in the woods, you tell me. If you hear something in the water, you tell me. If you hear something in the water, you tell me. Under no circumstances, are you allowed to take off your blindfold? But under no circumstances, are you allowed to take off your blindfold? But under no circumstances, are you allowed to take it? Take off your blindfold. Take the blindfold off.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Charlie, I love you. I love you too. Thank you for doing this with me. Thank you for having me. And as I said, this is a massive honor for me. Massive.
Starting point is 00:08:29 I mean it. It's always an honor to be here. Remember, the first time I did this, I said, I feel like I'm in a valuable seat. I know. That was very kind. And I meant it. And I really appreciated that.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Yeah. Do you have any words for Sandra and Nicole before we part? I'm very inspired by both of you, and I really hope I get the opportunity to meet you, Sandra, and meet you again, Nicole. Charlie, I love you. But for real, I just would like to say that I am so beyond grateful that I was able to talk to Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock about practical magic too. they both mean and have meant so much to me and I know that like I don't take this space and what I do for granted and and I am so beyond grateful they were so lovely so kind it was a real like meet your heroes moment and I really hope that you guys love it as much as I did practical magic two is out in theater September 11th it is is fucking fantastic. Joey King and Macy Williams star in it as their daughters.
Starting point is 00:09:45 I really do feel like people are going back to the movie theaters, and this is such a movie that you have to see in a movie theater. It is so fun, and I am so honored. I got to speak to the two stars about it. So Nicole and Sandra, thank you, Pussies. I would not be here without you. Enjoy the episode. I love you.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kinman. Welcome to Thanksgiving. Thank you for having us. Thank you. Thanks for being here. I'm so honored that you guys have chosen to come here on this wonderful press store. You're the only place with air conditioning right now. I know.
Starting point is 00:10:19 It's very hot out. It's very hot out. That was our deciding factor. It was gorgeous. Air conditioning? Yes. How was filming practical magic too? It was really fun.
Starting point is 00:10:27 We went to the UK in the summer and we shot. It was magical. It was actually magical. It was written in Alice's book. It takes place. We leave our house and we have to go to London. And it was, it was beautiful. Beautiful.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Like, we had the best weather for some reason. It was freakishly stunning that summer, last summer. Just the people were just kind. Yeah, people there were so kind. It was really kind. It was amazing. Yeah, just kind, optimistic, can do. It's like, even if you can't, they're like, all right, we'll try it.
Starting point is 00:10:57 And it's like, just, it was sort of you let your guard down there a little bit. Yeah. How come you've got this stuff? Why are you always taking my stuff? Here, here. This is Pessandra. Cassandra? That's Pusandra.
Starting point is 00:11:10 And that's, oh, I forget their name. Joe, what's that one? Patrick. I'm never letting that, yeah. He doesn't get a Puss? Terrible. No, because, I don't know, because Joe Jonas named him. And I say he wouldn't let go of Patrick.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Well, from SpongeBob. Yeah, I think that's, I think that's what it was. Yeah. But Puss Patrick. Peepee. Yeah. Did you guys have a resident witch on set again? Where was us? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Oh, yeah, it was you guys. Yeah. Hello. There was like six of us that were. We had three generations of, but we had no resident witch that could curse us in any way. We were only surrounded by witches that would bless us. Like good witches.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Right, because last time you guys had one and she was, she was brought on as sort of a knower of things. And turns out, we knew more. She might have known some things we didn't want to know about. Yeah. What did you guys, what have you guys learned about witches from both the first film and the second film? because I find myself, like, fascinated with them now.
Starting point is 00:12:10 I have a whole theory on The Witch. Come on. Season of the Witch, give it to us. No, you go. You had the microphone up to your mouth first. I just really like the microphone. I can tell. I was about to sing a song.
Starting point is 00:12:25 You can sing. No. This is what it was like working on. Sometimes we're here, and then Nicole will drift. And I just sort of just like a balloon. She's so free. And you just hold on to another and you just, Do you want to talk about it or no?
Starting point is 00:12:39 Yeah, what do you guys? Thoughts on witches. I mean, my mother always, she was born on Friday the 13th, so that somehow gave her, I think, magical powers. So I would say I come from a long line of witches. Like I don't. I have a problem with the word witch, only because I believe it was born out of a negative connotation.
Starting point is 00:13:03 It didn't feel like it was given with sweetness and kindness. it was always my daughter and I brought this up earlier and my daughter asked me she goes why is it that they call women witches but men are warlocks and I went that's a really great question and you know witches were women who helped each other because they weren't given the same medical you know I think that men got they had to come up with their own potion from the earth everything was was natural they had to help each other they taught each other to read you know they so if you
Starting point is 00:13:34 look at it that way and you go back to Salem and all those times you go oh you look at it with different eyes and it made me really sad because it was used to to harm someone or to kill them in society they go oh I'm mad at my aunt right now she's a witch and then she's burned at the stake right think about that because the the latin sinister right so they had it's get really deep here and it's left-handed birth marks red hair all the things that people were kind of weirded out by and suddenly you're a witch you're a witch yeah yeah wow did you guys like you would be burned at the steak usually for a birth mark or red hair and red hair and left-handed yeah it was sinister oh wow and this was only women I mean warlocks were burned as well but like women were you know when we were doing research for this and al you not that you need to do research on Alice's book, but I just randomly had a thought.
Starting point is 00:14:34 And I go, I bet everything has a reason. Women are made fun of for going to bathroom in packs. They go, why do women need to go to the bathroom in packs? I said, I bet there is a reason. And there was. They were not bathrooms for women a couple hundred years ago. So they had to go in the fields. And when they went in the fields, they became vulnerable and were attacked.
Starting point is 00:14:52 And so the women would all go together so that the women would be safe. Wow. That's why we go to the bathroom in packs. That's what people also say about. Yeah. People also say that about gossip. Gossip was a way for women to share important information, like, under the guise of, like, something secretive
Starting point is 00:15:09 that they needed to get to each other. Did anything spiritual happen to you guys on set in the first or the second? Like, did you guys notice any signs? Yeah, I mean, I just feel like this whole, to be going back to this so many years later, that's magical in its own way. Like, kind of extraordinary that this film even found its own. own following and that people championed it.
Starting point is 00:15:34 And before you know it, there was a reason to make a second one all this time, decades and decades later. That rarely happens. Especially for a film that when it came out, we were not reviewed well. Really? People came after us. Yeah, they were like, how many women do you need in a film? How many emotions, like how many tones do you need, you know, comedy and magic and love and
Starting point is 00:15:55 drama and, you know, and I was like, have you lived life at all? but back then we were chastised for it. It was, there was a lot of shame attached to it and we sort of went, oh, we thought we were making something that really was not just educational, but not mean-spirited at all. It was about doing the right thing and helping others no matter what.
Starting point is 00:16:15 And so I was really surprised when it turned out that because of social, there was a whole world that went, no, you did make it for a group of people. Here we are, and if it wasn't for social, we would not have been able to make a second. one. Everyone came out loud and proud and said, this is us, these are our people. It's not, you don't have to be a people because there's so many themes and thematics in this story that
Starting point is 00:16:39 relate to everybody, every single human being on the planet. So we get to make this with a different feeling. Like we came out of going, oh God, we were, no one wanted, it was, it was, it was, not a good press tour. That one. But. But we had fun. Yeah. You weren't there. You weren't at the premiere. No. But it was like, you were like this. You were, you could tell by the questions that, when people walk into the room every five minutes with their questions and they ask the same question,
Starting point is 00:17:09 they sort of give you that look of like, yeah, the stink. They had the stink. Yeah. Yeah. And it was not pretty. But so this feels really, really, really nice. Oh, wow. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:17:20 I'm so happy that this time around your experience is so much better. Yeah, it's very different. So you noticed. Well, what happened, though, over the course of the last couple of decades, is people just latched onto it, loved it. I think the sisterhood part of it is incredibly compelling, the family. And it's just yummy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:39 It's fun and it's yummy. And hopefully that's what we're bringing this time around. And it's fun. Yeah. It's real. Yeah. It is really fun. It is really fun.
Starting point is 00:17:52 Did you go, so you guys, you guys noticed it, it's resurgence on socials. That's how you picked up on like the kind of. classicness of it. Yeah, and also Warner Brothers was like, you do know what's happening, and I wasn't on social, I was like, I have no idea. And because I couldn't understand why they kept saying, will you please come back and make this? I'm like, why? Were you not there when the first shit hit the fan?
Starting point is 00:18:11 Because I was there, and it didn't feel great. And then I started looking at it. And if you're not on social, you wouldn't have felt the way, but the second you tow dip, it is profound in how people connect to each other. It's like a community. And you realize it's not a tiny community. It's pretty big. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:29 And it's all about joy. And it's all about things that everyone wants for themselves or for their family or for their ancestors or for, you know, for yourselves. And it just happens to have that magical little spin on top of it that has a little pointy hat or whatever you, however you want to fly the flag. Right. You can fly it however you want. But the core of it all is just accepting everybody. Yeah. No matter who they are.
Starting point is 00:18:54 You are always welcome in the Owens house. The aunts always had their door open. The light was always on. didn't judge if this is what you want it. And that mentality, I think, is needed more now than ever. It's like if you come with love, we'll be there for you. That's how it felt watching the second one. And also, I thought the music was so excellent.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Did you guys have anything to do with the music choices in the film? Oh, my God, when Lanside played and then the Cure played, I just thought it was so fantastic and so well-time. It was interesting because there was so much, because the first one that I worked on the sounder, The first one, no one expected it. It went like double gold or double platinum, whatever. There's two records I have hanging in the house, and it's really cool.
Starting point is 00:19:38 But with this one, it was like the pressure, we had to completely wash the brain and go, this is a new story. Same people, so you need the tent pole moments, the nostalgia, like the Stevie Nix, who allowed us to orchestrate. We said, can we put some strings on it and have our composer put strings? She was like, nah. So that was amazing. Thank you, Steve.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Yeah. And then Olivia was like she doesn't license to anyone and licensed to us. Thank you, Olivia. Thank you, Olivia. Brandy Carlisle came in and sang. Thank you, Brandy. A song by Billy Joel, which is one of my favorite songs. Who Billy licensed it to us and Brandy's was like, I would love to sing this.
Starting point is 00:20:21 So it's like everything just naturally came, you know, and that is rare. And it just sort of what didn't work, didn't. not work. We tried to force some things. We're like, well, this would be really cool to have. And you go, it doesn't belong here. Right. And so what belonged stuck? The minute you put it, cut it to picture, it was, you could just feel it. Have you always been involved in the soundtrack of the movies you're in? As much as you, well, not every movie does a soundtrack.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Right. Yeah. Okay. And the first film, our soundtrack inadvertently became another narrator of the film. Like, our first 20 minutes of the film didn't work. And that's why we have like four or five needle drops. At the beginning, you know, Faith Hill was the unknown. And this was before natal drops had really, yeah. Yeah, well, they were doing, they'd have like a big song. They have like a big song like the thing, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Yeah. Yeah. And then Faith Hill, when we got the song, we went, oh, this is nice. And we're like, put it here. And it just, it made the movie. Faith Hill made the movie. Thank you, Faye. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:18 I saw the coolest video the other day was of you. And I did not know that you were the first person in the world to buy digital movie ticket. I was from the net. Wow. Yeah, I was the first, because the net was all about hacking and computers and people were like, what is a hacker? Would this really happen? I'm like, yeah. Like I was sort of like a mini techie
Starting point is 00:21:39 at that time. So I'm not now comparatively, but yeah, it was the first time that I ordered a ticket online. Yeah. Irwin, yeah, Irwin, Irwin Winkler did it. He sort of set it all up and it was crazy. It is crazy to think how much the business is changed. How old we are.
Starting point is 00:21:55 No, no, no, no, no. It's It's crazy to think how much the business has changed, and you guys have been a part of the business since pre-socials. Watch it. Watch it. Pre-war, pre-electricity. Pre-socials. Pre-socials.
Starting point is 00:22:06 And post-socials. You just recently joined socials. I did. I did. What feels the most different about the business for better or for worse post the digital age? I think the direct contact. You suddenly have a direct access to people,
Starting point is 00:22:22 your fan. You can control your own narrative and voice. which I love. I mean, that is direct. And so you don't have that kind of wall between you, if you don't want it. If you do, you can put it up. Or you can go back and forth different times, you know?
Starting point is 00:22:40 You can go, I don't have anything to say or do right now, so I'm just going quiet. It's up to you. Right. I like that. And how have you felt since joining Instagram? Well, initially it was really daunting. I wouldn't have joined had one of the brothers not said,
Starting point is 00:22:54 could you please? And I said, if I could be me, And if I can have my voice and I like, you know, I like things to be playful and, and in service of someone else and how can I shine a light on people and how can have fun doing it. And I, if I can remain doing it this way and honor and in service of something else outside of me, Greg. You were saying how you now have direct contact with your audience. Was it a really frustrating feeling to not have that like 20 some years ago? I think you're being interpreted a lot of times through somebody else's voice or their perception of you. So that's fine.
Starting point is 00:23:35 That's going to happen. But at the same time, yeah, is it nice to be able to say this is what I'm choosing to speak out on? This is what I want to say. This is what I want to show. This is who I am. Yeah, it's always nice to have your own control over who you are because you can also. authentically say who you are. That's great.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Yeah. And you also choose when you want to not say anything. It's your choice. Yeah. I love choice. Summer is coming to a close. But just because summer is coming to a close does not mean live performance is as well. And I know because more live performance and more live shows happen during summer,
Starting point is 00:24:21 we may think that it is. That is not the case. people are still on tour, people are still doing comedy shows, and Broadway is still going on. The best place to get tickets for all those events is at seek geek.com using my code therapist for 10% off. The reason Seekek is the best place to get tickets for these events is because it rates your tickets on a scale from 1 to 10, 1B, not the best, 10 being the best, so you know you are getting the most bang for your buck. There are so many people continuing to go on tour. Ariana Grande is finishing up her Eternal Sunshine World Tour. Tucker is going on tour.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Gracie Abrams is going on tour and the best place to get tickets for this tour is on Seekek Also if you click the link in the description And download the app It automatically applies to code therapist For 10% off your order Once again that's code therapist
Starting point is 00:25:07 For 10% off your order on Seekek And yeah leave the house Even if it's just alone Take yourself on a solo date Go to a show alone Go to a comedy show alone Like there are so many incredible Live shows
Starting point is 00:25:19 I mean one of my favorite parts About when I was on tour was when people would be like, I made a friend. Like, I came to your show and I made a friend. It is something that we really need to preserve. And it's something we need to practice. You need to practice going outside these days. I know it sounds silly, but you really do need to practice leaving the house.
Starting point is 00:25:37 And Seekek is the best way to do that. That's Code Therapist for 10% off. Thank you again, Seek, for sponsoring tonight's episode. It is the end of summer. And that means I am scrolling through my camera roll, as I always do, looking past on all the trips I have been able to go on this past year. And the only thing that's made me want to do is plan another one. And the only way I will be doing that is on booking.com.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Because all my friends are incredibly picky. Love to all. But we are all incredibly picky. Booking.com helps us put all those preferences in one place and helps us find a house or a hotel that has everybody's needs met. And that way, we have a roof over our head and we can enjoy the rest of the trip. because as I've said, once you have a place to sleep, the rest of the trip kind of plans itself.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Going on trips with your friends, like, it's one of the best exercises of free will you can do. It's like, that is like the time when I most feel like an adult. I'm like, oh, I can literally just get up and leave. And booking.com helps you get up and leave. Go on, book that trip. It's easy. Booking.com, booking dot, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Well, what are you guys therapists about today? The inability to influence those who are making changes that I don't approve of in the world. It's just a blanket, and I'm trying not to always live in that downer, but it's just, you're not a downer. No, but it's like I live in a constant, the sky's falling. She does, yes. I'm preparing for the world. I have more prepared bags, trunks, things, you know. Really?
Starting point is 00:27:12 Oh, big time. Yeah, yeah. You can really trigger her into. Oh, my God. Yeah. That just reminded me you're in Birdbox where the world does end. It does. Yes.
Starting point is 00:27:22 And you want to be in my house if shit goes down. Wait, that's one of my favorite movies. That's one of my favorite movies of all time. I've got stuff there. That is one of my favorite apocalypse movies of all time, which is, by the way, my favorite genre. I've seen every apocalypse movie under the sun. I'm fascinated by like...
Starting point is 00:27:36 Same director as this film. Really? Oh my God. She's fantastic. I thought Birdbox was such a fascinating concept. The fact that we have a film out of it is a miracle. because I'm literally running, we're in a jungle, running around with the blind foot. I'm like, I'm going to be method and I'm going to do this without.
Starting point is 00:27:53 I ran into cameras. I ran into, you know, it was, it was, it was insanity. And as long as the heart of it was taking care of your kids and what would you do, it's like the Sophie's Choice moment, I think, I said, as long as we have that is the grounder of like, what would a mama do in the situation and how does she do it and how does she get them out of it? I think you can do anything as insane as it. was we're like as long as it feels real to those people who are in it right you know and i said if we got that we'll be fine and that was one of the first streamer netflix movies at the time if i
Starting point is 00:28:27 remember right one yeah yeah i think will smith had one like he had the yeah yeah would there would there ever be a second in the works oh so they talked about it but i was like do i really want to i mean we made burrbach during a time when things were really bucolic and peaceful and the world and everything seemed very calm. Do I want to make something that really depicts where my mind's already had right now with all my little panic boxes for me and the kids, should anything happen? My son's like, oh, come on, mom, really? I'm like, we need to have your hepa filter.
Starting point is 00:28:59 You have asthma. Like, I load up the car faster than anyone. Yeah. So with that kind of mentality, do I want to be making a film, which, you know, when I film, I'm from beginning, middle and end, in that same headspace, I don't want to do that right now. You know, I don't want to sit in that world when it kind of feels. Like it could happen. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Yeah. But I will be prepared for it. I was watching Disclosure Day the other day, and I was like, oh, my God. Like, this could really just happen. I didn't see it. I didn't see it. Okay, so it's about aliens. I feel they're going to be really nice when they get here.
Starting point is 00:29:31 I also think so. I think they're here. I think they're here. We don't see them. They're watching us laughing. Maybe not at you, but a lot at me. They're looking at Nicole going, good girl, Sandy. Not so much.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Yeah. Bad girl. to me. Yeah, I also. Why would they not be here? I was turned into a believer from that movie. And I was like, I used to not believe in them. I used to really just be very matter of fact and like what I could see is what was there.
Starting point is 00:29:58 But I don't know. Lately I've been after rewatching the first practical magic and watching the second the other day and then watching Disclosure Day, I'm like, God, maybe there is more than meets the eye here. I think there, I think there for sure is. Yeah. I just love being here now. I mean, we can all get caught up in, oh, my gosh, there's this and there's that and everything. But then it's like, well, we're here now. Right.
Starting point is 00:30:20 Stay right here, right now and enjoy the moment. How do you guys stay present in like such incredible moments that feel so out of body? Like, you've both won Oscars. Like, how do you stay present in those moments? You both left our bodies when we lost. I had two hours of sleep that night. I was hiding a newborn. I had no sleep that night.
Starting point is 00:30:42 I had nothing. I messed up someone. I presented for someone. I don't remember. I couldn't read the teleprompter. The poor gentleman didn't have a very good. Like I was a mess. I don't remember what I said.
Starting point is 00:30:53 I just wanted to get home for a feeding, which is actually a nice balance. Yeah. Like I had this incredible moment that I can't remember, but I was yearning to be back home for the moment that I was hiding. So, you know. And I was beyond lonely.
Starting point is 00:31:09 I had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home. and was so lonely. Oh, I'm so sorry. Yeah, crazy, though, that sort of the confluence of events where you go, I wish I had, like I had my mom with me and my dad, but I was like, where's my partner and where's someone that I can share this with it, where you can jump on the bed.
Starting point is 00:31:29 You didn't have your babies. I've got my daughter here. Right now she's watching it. I'm not pointing to some random because she's got a bunch of babies in court. She brings like these in-defense and has them in the corner. But I was so, yeah, it was like one of the most profound, moments where I went, I've got to get a life. Really? Yeah. Yeah. And at the same time, I'm holding this gold statue where you go,
Starting point is 00:31:50 this is, this is it. This is the highest sort of prize you can get in our industry. And so grateful and yet so lonely. Did it feel almost like, okay, now I can... How weird is what it felt. It actually felt like I'd love to be able to just, you know, be wrapped in somebody's arms right now. And then, and the actual... What? But you know that feeling where you go? I'd love to be earthed now.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Yeah. Something that feels really, okay, this is my real life. But was that like something you were reaching for? It then became quest, yeah. Yeah. Well, it was just like, oh, I realize the chasm. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Wow. You realize what work doesn't feel. It's interesting what those things do. You think work fills up the cup? And it does in the moment, because there's a, a lot to think about it, but when you go home, it's an empty cup. I think that's probably why a lot of people take it home because that's their sustenance. And if that's not, you know, it fills your cup, you go home, you're like, it's still empty. Right. How are you guys able to separate work and life?
Starting point is 00:33:00 Like, when do you feel like you both discovered how to do that and find that proper balance? I think once you have kids in terms of just going, okay, I've really got to learn how to compartmentalize. At the same time, I've still got to be able to have my artistic creative expression. So a lot of it is sharing it. Like my daughter's sitting over there. She's very aware of all the things that I go through. Both of them are. And it's a very shared experience.
Starting point is 00:33:28 And that kind of becomes beautiful then. Yeah. So then if it blurs, you're able to then talk about it and with your family. you're jumping now. I'm just like I'm dominant. I'm dominant. No. I think everyone's got,
Starting point is 00:33:50 it's different on every day. You know, I'm a mom first. Like I am no good to any film production. If I'm not great there and they're not great, you know, I didn't work for four years. I mean,
Starting point is 00:34:02 I didn't work in front of the camera. I had other creative things, but I chose not to be, you know, I can't. Like if something is not right, I can't show up. I don't know how to flip that switch. So if there's the opportunity to be their good and they're really good and they can be right by my side, I can be there.
Starting point is 00:34:22 And that's few and far between. I mean, they're 16 and 13, both in the halves, but now they want nothing to do with me. But I still need everything to do because you raise them to leave you. You know, you raise the things you love the most to leave you. And I'm like, I'm not good. Yeah. No. You want them to go.
Starting point is 00:34:39 I'm ready to go out and she's, she's independent. They're bald independent. I see the looks in her. I see the look in her eyes. She's like, so out of here. I'm going to let mom think I'm here, but I'm out. But that's what you want. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:52 And that's the most painful thing ever. So I'd rather spend all my time with them. And then when they're on the door, I'm going to be, I'm going to have an empty cup. Have you guys ever seen? You'll have me. I'll be blah, blah, blah. No, because you'll be tracking her everywhere. I know.
Starting point is 00:35:09 I'll be following my kids like a hoodie, like a ball of clobba and a black car, SUV. That's like my dad. Yeah. I get your dad. Yeah. My dad will not let go. I will. Why?
Starting point is 00:35:19 Why should we? Yeah. What's the point? There's like certain things he has that he, I let him still feel like he has, like he won't let me drive. Does he live here? Yeah. We all live here and I do, I do not drive. So he comes and drives you everywhere?
Starting point is 00:35:33 Well, no, but he likes to sometimes. How sweet is that? Yeah. I told my son, I was like, if you go to college, if you're, if you're, if you're, If you go to that college there, you could live here, do the laundry. I'm not making wise choices right now. I get that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:47 It's like his one thing. I'm like, okay, I won't drive. I don't want to drive. Does he, is he afraid that something might happen to you? He's like, you'll crash. Are you not a good driver? I don't think I am.
Starting point is 00:35:55 I've never tried. Wait, but you don't even have a license? You don't have your license? No, I grew up in New York. Okay, can we please do something where we just take you on the road and teach you how to drive? Yes. By the way, excellent driver. I won't be in the car.
Starting point is 00:36:08 Wait, yes. Yes, you will. Yes, you will. You will take care of all the other things. Speed three. It'll be a very slow speed. It'll be the slowest of all the speeds. Let's teach you how to drive.
Starting point is 00:36:22 Yeah. You and my son, because he's getting ready to take the little driver's license test. So like the, whatever the, what is it called? Herman. Yeah, that one. Wright can drive. It's like, do not talk to me. I'm not here.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Well, if you didn't want us to focus on you, you shouldn't have come in the room. She's okay. I see it in her eyes. She's got no interest in us. Do you like the show? Love it. Oh. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:36:46 Thank you. Thank you Amazon Prime for sponsoring today's episode. If you are 18 to 24 years old, I am insanely jealous of you, not because of your youth, but because you are eligible for Prime for Young Adults. I've never been so sad to be 26, not just because I'm closer to 30, but because Prime for Young Adults is basically your own Prime membership, not your parents, yours. And Prime for young adults is half the price of regular Prime, which is 749 a month. And you also get 5% cash back on eligible purchases.
Starting point is 00:37:14 So if you're just restocking your usual hair stuff or you're treating yourself to something fun, you get 5% cash back. No codes, no clipping coupons. It just shows up in your account ready to use for your next purchase. It's like finally having your own place, but for Prime. I'm so jealous that this exists now because when I was in college, when I was like 18, I was using my parents' prime account for everything and they were monitoring every purchase. It felt like I was constantly being watched.
Starting point is 00:37:37 So I'm so jealous that Prime for Young Adults exists now because I wish I had that my own autonomy back then. But you guys don't need to use your parents' account anymore. You deserve to buy yourself any necessities and a little treat here and there without anyone else's judgment. Prime for young adults. 5% cash back, 100% yours. Prime for young adults is only available for people 18 to 24 years old.
Starting point is 00:37:56 Terms apply. Thank you Prime for sponsoring tonight's episode. What are you guys? I was so curious to ask you, what are you watching on television or movies right now or what are you listening to? The Nadal documentary. Oh, of course.
Starting point is 00:38:09 I love tennis. Who is that? It's going to be something really intelligent and fancy. Go ahead, Nicole. And what am I listening to right now? Well, tell us what the documentary is about. Nadal, the tennis player. Rafa, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:26 Oh, yeah. Oh, what did you think I said? Okay, okay. That's why I thought you looked blank both of you when I said it. Because we felt really stupid just that we went, oh, she's watching that. You've got to watch it. It's extraordinary because he plays through so much pain. It's fascinating.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Yeah. I feel better. Don't you feel better? I'm just so much better. Now that you didn't know as well, I do feel better. I do feel better. I sure. It's the Ozzy accent.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Sometimes it just switches things, sounds up. I can do British then or American. What do you want? Irish? No, the Aussie is nice. It's nice. I love the Aussie. I know.
Starting point is 00:38:59 You don't want British. No, no. I like that. I don't want you British. You don't want that. A little bit. I can go like South London. Wow.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Shut. She's like, that wasn't very good. It was superb. What are you watching? When I'm working on a film, until it's locked, I don't allow myself to watch anything that will make me wish I was doing what they were doing. Do you know what? I mean, something that will inspire me. So I watch things that are sort of really fun.
Starting point is 00:39:29 Like, I just went, like, I think I'm on the, I'm in the reality wrap. I was not to say, are you, are you not too down reality? I'm like, which one? Is it Vanderpump? No, ultimatum. And I married at first sight, love is blind. I watch love is blind with love on the spectrum to sort of balance things out, you know. I love married at first sight.
Starting point is 00:39:54 It's so good. What is the premise you meet and you marry? Yes, you have a bunch of therapists. Okay, this is going to be able to. I'm all that. Who vet all the people. They've had people sign up, you know, a lot of people from social. people who really want to find love.
Starting point is 00:40:07 A lot of people who are also just on it for the, you know, screen time. But they're vetted by these wonderful, wonderful therapists who find, you say, what is it that you want? You're supposed to be sincere. Be really vulnerable because they're doing the search. It's arranged marriage. So they find you a partner.
Starting point is 00:40:23 You gear up. They come to your house. Two weeks from now, you're getting married. Oh, my God, to the family. Hept to my dad. He hates me. He's disowning me. And I'm doing it anyway because I want love.
Starting point is 00:40:31 And so it's that whole process. And then they meet at the altar. and nine times out of, what, eight times out of ten, it's a wicked good wedding because they have a wedding. They walk down the aisle. They have a party. Inevitably, they're wasted. They have a really good time.
Starting point is 00:40:45 It's strangers, so you're like, oh, this person's fantastic. You know, do you want to consummate it all? Like, they're literally meeting, and they're talking about, will you consummate your marriage? I'm like, you just met five minutes ago. It's fabulous. And then they have to go live together. They get to go to a vacation together with everyone. They literally get married, though.
Starting point is 00:41:04 They get married there, yes. Contract and everything? Yes, but no one talks about if this is a legally binding marriage. Yeah, that's what I'm at. And you want to get divorced. Does the show saddle you with the divorce process? Do they? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:41:19 But if someone's genuinely going on, they're going, I'm doing a bad job in my life, finding a partner, can you find them for me? I think it's a great concept. Go on a date. Do you have to? Well, they have a date. It's called a wedding date.
Starting point is 00:41:31 What have you guys noticed to be the most different about, like this idea of fame and celebrity over the past 20, 30 years. Like what has changed the most in your eyes? What's considered fame? And I think it goes back to what you were saying so beautifully about social media gives you control and access to your own narrative. You get to say, this is who I am, this is how I want to present, versus the old studio system which you were curated, controlled,
Starting point is 00:41:59 and you didn't have access to your voice to sort of dispel a rumor or doing that. it's just magnified now. You can be, there's different levels of how to express yourself, you know. Yeah. But I realize how many creatives there are because content is hard. And you watch these people who create many stories and they get their families involved. And it's, I love storytelling that way. I go, it's, it's, I'm trying to find the beauty in it and not the things that are so harmful to kids.
Starting point is 00:42:28 Yeah. I have a daughter who doesn't have an iPhone and she's at camp. And she's like, next day, if you want me. to go next year. You know I'm going to need a phone. I'm like, no, you're not. That's the point of camp. Yeah, exactly. No phones. So I think it's, I love watching people create, like, with what you have in your house and your imagination and writing. And so I think there's a different way to be creative and
Starting point is 00:42:49 known for it rather than this hierarchy of this is a movie star and this is who you are and you are very important, you know, there's different ways to make stories come alive, you know. So that's my feeling. Right. And you see that now with like creator-led projects like, Backrooms or obsession. Yeah. Have you seen back rooms? It's cool.
Starting point is 00:43:08 Yeah. It's cool. What is it? So, Osgar Perkins, I think, was one of the producers or mentor for him. It was, it started off on actually. Reddit. Yeah. It was a Reddit thread about, it was this, like, if I, I might, you will know if I'm
Starting point is 00:43:23 explained this wrong. It's like, there was a photo on Reddit of like this creepy room. And it just became this all, it all started from this one photo and it became the back room. of like this like really like unidentified spaces. And this YouTuber, I'm blanking on his name, made a movie about it. And he's like 20 years old. Do you know?
Starting point is 00:43:45 Kane Parsons. Kane Parsons. And the premise of it is what? Just like what happened in these rooms? It's like the premise of it is there. They work at this furniture store and the guy, this guy knocks down a wall by accident, if I remember correctly. My God, that's the best thing.
Starting point is 00:44:00 I have recurring dreams of finding hidden rooms. in houses that I live in that are outfitted and stuck in time and oh my god there's more stuff here there's more to like I'm sure there's a deep yeah rabbit hole you can go in for that yeah that that's a great concept yeah it's cool and what I liked about it is that it like opens up a whole world of movies like it's like it's like you could go on the backrooms forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and then obsession oh I loved obsession I'm sorry I'm still stuck in I'm in ultimatum Season three, so I'm going to stay there until I'm finished.
Starting point is 00:44:34 But you said something really cool, which I thought you said, I don't want to watch something that I wish I was a part of. What is a movie that each of you did that you thought to each other, like, oh, I wish I did that movie? I think my head would say I wish I could do that. Yeah. I don't think I could do what Nick does. And I can't do what's, I mean, Sandy is one of the greatest, if not the greatest physical comedian, female working today. You are so incredible at that.
Starting point is 00:45:00 She'll tell you why. She was, because you studied films. No, but I love how you found physical comedy. Yeah. Because it's literally wired in her since she was tiny. Yeah. You were through your mom, right? Yeah, well, I was raised between Germany and the United States.
Starting point is 00:45:16 My mother was an opera singer, and we'd go for the opera seasons, and I was raised by my grandmother and my cousins. But in Germany at that time, and you had a TV with, you know, a show from Italy in black and white or a show from France, and it was anyone who could physically translate a story to you, usually through humor, I was riveted by. And then when we were in the States, I would watch Carol Burnett, Jerry Lewis, Lucille Ball, anyone with physical comedy abilities that could make you feel something without saying a lot
Starting point is 00:45:45 and make you laugh. And my mother is German, had no sense of humor unless I fell or I'd like, A-Aid it on the floor. And I was like, okay. I had nothing to do with her being German. Maybe it did. And I realized that that sort of accidental happening in making it truthful within that moment was gold for me. I loved how to physically figure out how to make a moment real physically with comedy within a scene. You know, pull that you up, pull this and make this difficult.
Starting point is 00:46:15 Don't tell me you did this. You know, it's thrilling to me. My body wants to do it. Yeah. Is there a scene in one of your movies that you're most proud of where you feel like your physical comedy, really shine. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:28 It's small. No one else would care. But it was a scene that I had to do where I walked into a kitchen and had to shove, try to just bake something in the microwave, and then walk back. And I said, what I would like for you to do is pull the sheets out of the bed. Because she was having a hard day. I said, how do we show that other than, you know, I'm having a hard day? You know, I said, I'm going to be making my frozen dinner.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Pull the sheet out here. I'm going to wear a shoe that grips and has a rubber sole so it catches. Don't let the door work in the. the microwave put some utensils there and I'll grab one and see if it works and then do the same thing don't tell me where it is but pull it out before I return into that shot and it was a shot where just it was like the first or second take everything works it was I it was one of my favorites from miscongeniality it was like one scene where I'm just trying to make a frozen time so good so good it's just like to show your anger yeah that way when like you that's what happens in life you're pissed
Starting point is 00:47:25 and then you're trying to get your car keys. You can't find your car keys, but your jacket sleeve is turned inside out. And it's like, I'm best when I'm between a rock and a hard place. Right. I didn't know you produced Miss Congeniality. Was that one of the first films you produced? Yeah, I produced some smaller ones.
Starting point is 00:47:38 Didn't do very well. But they were learning ground. Yeah, yeah. So that was my first one that sort of hit. Yeah. You and Melissa McCarthy. Oh, the heat? Oh, so good.
Starting point is 00:47:52 So good. So good. We are the rock and the heart ice. You know what I've rewatched of yours the other day was others? It's so good. It is so good. It's so good. It is one of the best twists.
Starting point is 00:48:04 That's not physical comedy. Of all time. It's internal. Like flipping, like you're like what you have to sell through your eyes and through what she has to do in silence. It's incredible. But it was really interesting making the others because originally it was written where she's meant to have this wild red hair and completely haggard and destroyed. And I was like, no, she needs to be so together and everything,
Starting point is 00:48:38 because she's so meticulous about protecting her children. Right. So that all comes from a place of perfect care and protection and wanting to have everything in order. And that's how that character started. What out of all the films you both have ever done has been the most fun to make for both of you? Practical matching. It was a hard shoot, though.
Starting point is 00:49:09 We had a hard shoot. That was a hard shoot. I'm like, oh, rose-collar glasses. I loved making Ballin Rouge. Yeah, because I got to fly on a trapeze. Yeah, I mean, when do you get to do that, right? Yeah. Be the Quarison who everybody is like,
Starting point is 00:49:26 oh, and the sparkling diamond. Yeah. He did. He would always be like, the sparkling diamond in the sky. So, yeah, so that was fun, singing, dancing, and acting. Yeah. What about for you?
Starting point is 00:49:45 I mean, I have great times on set with the people. Like, you have hilarious memories. I think the most thankful I've ever, been on a project where I go, wow, who I was when I started versus who I was when I came out was probably gravity because I got to push my body in a way. And I don't think, I don't think the film does justice to how hard it was for those people to make that film. You know, behind the scenes, you look at it and you go, this technology didn't it?
Starting point is 00:50:15 It was, it was brutal, but we went into it going, I hope it works. We didn't know if it would work up until the very last minute. who I was when I started versus who I was when I was done. It was really, I always look back on that really grateful. I go, you spat me out a person that I'm really proud of. Yeah. Yeah. How long did it take to shoot?
Starting point is 00:50:37 It wasn't that long. It was just isolating, you know, because I was in a box by myself with an earwig and no one to talk to for nine hours a day. You know, doing more, because I had to do all the, what I did. You know, I was going slow motion with my body. Right. Zero G while I spoke in real time. So by the end, someone would hand me a water, and George was like, you know what you just did.
Starting point is 00:50:57 And I was like, I don't know idea. He goes, they said, do you want to water? And you went, I was method acting. It was just really profound how they believed in technology that had just been invented weeks before to tell this story that Alfonso had. And that, to me, I'm really thankful for that because you see people's belief in their story.
Starting point is 00:51:21 And you sign on. You go, okay, you know, you're incredible filmmakers, let's do it. I will be my best, as best as I can be my best. Yeah. Well, you were fantastic. Gravity is, I love space movies. It's a beautiful story. You were. See, we were both in the sky.
Starting point is 00:51:52 give me some sort of profound advice. Or I just all take it to the grave. Yeah. Anything she tells me, take it. Yeah, yeah. We both hold that. We hold that. Really, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:03 What was that call like when you both decided to hop on for practical magic too? Like, who called to? It was a bunch of calls. We were. But there was no like, should we do it? We're like, we're going to do it. Yeah. Which, what do we extract from the book?
Starting point is 00:52:19 Because the book is done. Beautiful stuff. There's three movies. in that book. How do we make this relationship which soars from the first one? Like, we didn't know it would do what that did, but there's something there. We have chemistry. It just happens.
Starting point is 00:52:34 We do. You do. And we fight well, and we love well, and we're different enough to make it interesting every time there's either love or an argument. Yeah. You know, so it wasn't a should we. We're like, okay, let's do it. How do we do it and honor the fans, the first film, but evolve it, and bring in the new generation.
Starting point is 00:52:52 I mean, excellent job at it, though. Yeah, how sweet or amazing and Joey? Unbelievable. Is it true you brought your own tequila to that? She did. The first. The first one, yeah. Second one, we were so cold and tired.
Starting point is 00:53:07 Yeah, we're so tired and cold. There was no drunkenness. But did you guys get, like, tipsy for that first one? Yeah. Yeah. Where we were really hammered was when we were sitting at the table and salting each other. All that sweat was real. Oh, and I never.
Starting point is 00:53:22 What music are you listening to? I'm always so fascinated to know. Oh, I've gone down an old school hip hop road trip. I've just like, it's turned up the old, like, it's good, like old Tupac, but all the stuff has the same sort of downbeat that you just, you can do no wrong. You can run on the treadmill. You can do it. That's where I am right now, hip hop road trip.
Starting point is 00:53:43 I did a little hip hop road trip with Little Kim earlier this year. She's popping up everywhere. Yeah, yeah. Where is Little Kim these days? is what I want to know. Do we know where she is? Maybe it's best. God knows.
Starting point is 00:53:56 Like, actually God knows, but the jump off is one of the greatest rap songs of all time. She, she, no one gives her the credit she deserves. No one. At all. At all.
Starting point is 00:54:06 Same like Missy Elliott. I'm sorry, Missy Elliott needs to go back on tour. She needs to bring it back. There's just some people that need to, yeah, we'll show up. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:16 Oh, my God. If I saw the jump off live, I would be so in it. Yeah. We'll put that out there. Please, Lil Kim. Have Lil Kim on your show. Yeah, please.
Starting point is 00:54:24 Would you? Yeah. Well, don't say it. Okay. Lil Kim, if you want to come on the show, Sandra Bullock approved. Yeah, we need you. We really need you. Who are you listening to?
Starting point is 00:54:35 I jump around all the time. You know, my stand to go-to is Fred again. Just guess why not? Really? That's her favorite artist of all time. Oh, really? Yeah. Have you seen them live?
Starting point is 00:54:51 No. Oh, you have to. Apparently, his live shows are like, you were so good at going concerts. Going to concerts. Oh, yeah, I saw you guys a cold play. Oh, that was a great night. How was that?
Starting point is 00:55:02 We so needed that, didn't we? That was out. I mean, if I'd be lying, if I'd say, we didn't do crying. I mean, it was so, for some reason, so emotional and so vast, but so small. Like, you look around, you go, how does one band make everyone love each other for two hours, just a moment. Yeah. There was no animosity.
Starting point is 00:55:25 Like I had just been to the, the Kendrick and Sizzle concert with my son, and I was like, this is the greatest thing we've ever seen. You know, I'm trying not to embarrass him in the background. Yeah. I'm just going to chill.
Starting point is 00:55:33 I'm going to hang back. But my kids weren't there at this one, and there was no hanging back. It was unbelievable. I'm so jealous. I've never got to see them live. So, you know, they're touring in, I think, 20, 27.
Starting point is 00:55:45 Go see it. It is like nothing. We all go together. The best part was. You're going to teach me to drive. Yeah. I'm also seeing Harry Stiles on Halloween. Oh, I've seen him.
Starting point is 00:55:55 He's spectacular. Excited. Yeah, he's spectacular. What's the best? You're invited to that. You're Madison Square Garden, right? Yeah. I invited you.
Starting point is 00:56:02 Halloween. You said you'll be there maybe, but I go, kids. That means I won't be there. Not true. It's a new me. It's a whole new me. Yeah. Were you, did you used to cancel plans?
Starting point is 00:56:14 I'm coming out. That's such a good song. Diana Ross. See, that's another one. It's on my hip hopper trip. Do you guys, what's the best concert you've ever been to? Oh, come on. You can't ask that.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Prince. Prince. Oh, yeah. I saw Prince. He was singing right to me. He was on that speaker doing his push-ups right at me, looking right at me. I don't know if he knew it, but I felt it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:41 Yeah. A man in heels and earrings can steal any man's woman. Agreed. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. He could walk in. I'd be like, yes. Yep.
Starting point is 00:56:50 I go to concert, so I've seen everything. I saw Bowie. Really? Yeah, I loved Bowie. I've done, you name it, I've seen it. Yeah. So, yeah, ACDC. Oh, that I would love to.
Starting point is 00:57:07 Yeah, that would be great. Yeah. Back in black? Charlie X-EX was, I mean, always. She was, disclosure. Oh, I thought I thought she was awesome. Yeah. So there's just so many different.
Starting point is 00:57:17 We're not going to look at you anymore. Yeah, sorry. Um, you name it. I mean, I just love hearing live music. Have you seen the strokes? No. I just saw them for the first time and I love the strokes and it was one of the best shows of my entire life. Really?
Starting point is 00:57:32 Yeah. Wow. I don't know why. I think it's just because I'd been waiting so long to see them and I had been to so many festivals where they were playing and I never got to see them. And then I finally was like, they were before Justin Bieber. So everyone was like, okay, we'll stand here and watch them. And it was just magic. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:57:48 And they sounded good. So good. Amazing. Okay, so these are the tell me what's wrong. Okay. I have a very stubborn family, and we can't say anything to each other without someone getting mad. I'm on the receiving end of all of the blame usually.
Starting point is 00:58:01 I always say that people only act like others around them, and my friends and I definitely don't have issues. What should I do? It's constant. Okay, so just to clarify. It's very complicating. The family blames him for everything. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:19 Let's unpack it. I can't stand to let something go without understanding it. Let's leave that part out. That third sentence. No, but that third sentence is very revealing. You only act like those around you. So I must not be the problem if my friends and I don't have issues. But I have issues within my family.
Starting point is 00:58:36 I see what you're saying. Okay, got it. All right. Thanks for that. I can't help because I don't have enough information, but I would suggest if it's something that's debilitating, when you come home, you can't be free. and there's a lot of pressure.
Starting point is 00:58:50 If you can afford a therapist, grab a therapist. I would say talk from your feelings. Oh my God. Didn't you just hear the family's very stubborn? They don't listen. I feel. You don't listen.
Starting point is 00:59:02 I'm trying to... I feel like every time I bring something up, I get a tag. I know. It's always that I feel. I feel. I feel. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:14 I feel. It might not be exactly... So you're saying step into the family dynamic. Using feeling words. You have the right to get angry at me or blame me. But I feel, da-da-da-da. I literally hate my boyfriend's music. This would totally be fine if we weren't dating because, of course,
Starting point is 00:59:31 tastes are different and everything. But he always shows me his demos, plays live for me when he's working on something, et cetera. And I just sit through the whole thing. I'm struggling here, but I don't want to lie to him. I also don't want to crush his spirits. Oh, this is a very... Because music... Geh fuels everything.
Starting point is 00:59:49 And if you don't like the music, it's not going to ignite the fuel. Right. I mean, maybe the fuel gets ignited other ways in this because she didn't elaborate, but she's being very honest. I'm assuming she could be a he, is it, doesn't matter? That's unclear. Doesn't matter? Doesn't matter.
Starting point is 01:00:05 This is a tricky one. Nicole? I feel, I feel what you are trying to say with your music is not something that resonates with me, but I hope it resonates. You have the right to make any music you want. But I feel, I don't know how to help on that one, because that's insulting. This will crush the person.
Starting point is 01:00:30 Find something you like in it. Yeah. I have a compliment. Someone new, maybe. Oh, well, you can't give him a bone. You can't give him the bone because it's not igniting the fire. Okay. I'm kind of in love with my best friend,
Starting point is 01:00:47 and I have no idea what to do about it. Oh, tricky. I genuinely can't tell if she feels the same because we're both women. So who the fuck can really tell the difference between two people in love and female friendships? Like it's gotten to the point where I just forget that we aren't actually together. So in true text. Propose something. Just go, you know what?
Starting point is 01:01:08 It's a weird thing I had a feeling for someone and it's a woman. And then see how the friend responds. You know, the friend is like, oh my God, it's so gross. I can't believe you like a woman. Yeah. Then, you know, to step out. If someone goes, oh my God, that's amazing. I had a feeling for a woman as well.
Starting point is 01:01:24 What was it like? Toad dip and see if that's even something that they're open to. Perfect. Patience is a virtue. Yeah. I don't have it, but it is a virtue. Yeah. Like really and truly.
Starting point is 01:01:34 I can't have a lot of it either. You know? Patience is hard. Yeah. I have a little too much. I feel like you guys have the most patience. You work on film sets all the time. No, but her, when she says she doesn't have patience,
Starting point is 01:01:44 she's got a lot of things to do, see, and explore. Like, she's like, I'm not going to, I'm going to go. She's really brave that way. Like when you're on location, like you just... No, I just like, I'm curious. And I'm filled with wonder. Yeah. She's a diamond in the sky.
Starting point is 01:02:01 No, I am. I love. You are Rihanna's song. It's like, honey. Like a diamond. Shush. Diamond in the sky. I'm just going to be the soundtrack to Nicole's life.
Starting point is 01:02:12 I'm just going to be over here singing little vignettes for her answers. All of this. Yeah. I'm sorry. What was it like on set with you guys? Not this. It was a hard shoot. It was a real shoot.
Starting point is 01:02:23 Listen, I've been telling you. It was hard. Rose colored glasses. Oh, my God, I'm going to kill you. I will kill you live on this show. My joke. Your little Jonas pussy will come over here for my squid word pussy. And we're going to do some physical comedy.
Starting point is 01:02:43 By the way, stop. Recently, I have been oversharing my business and other people's, business a lot. Oh, not good. That's not good. Stop. I don't understand why.
Starting point is 01:02:55 I don't think at all when I speak. And after my stomach drops, because I know I shouldn't have said that. Oh, me. Cause count to 30. Yeah. Walk out of the room. Yeah. Try your best because you don't want to do that.
Starting point is 01:03:07 You don't want someone doing that to you. Right. Be someone who's a safe person to share business with. And if someone's sharing business with you that you know you can't get walk away, just go, I can't. I'm not, say, I'm not a safe person to give this information to. Right. Like I can't hear it.
Starting point is 01:03:20 I'll tell someone. It's enticed. It's really entice when someone goes, I've got some tea. Like my daughter from camp, I got so much tea. And I'm like, what is it? And I don't know these kids. So, and then after a while, I went, I don't need to know that business. Right.
Starting point is 01:03:30 I don't. I don't. Yeah. My friend's last room. I think we're quite good at this. You're fantastic. Yeah. Anything.
Starting point is 01:03:36 I love doing it. Yeah. I know this is. We need to be like a therapist talk show. Like that you'll come in, like, every like half a year. Yeah. You'll come in and we'll do this again. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:46 My friend's last roommate moved her boyfriend into her house without asking me. Oh, No. Oh, obviously I got a lawyer to see if I could break my lease, and now she's being horrible to me. She's acting like a seventh grader and sending me videos of them at the bar without me.
Starting point is 01:03:59 Additionally, she's only been dating this guy for six months, and he's a drug and gambling addict. Oh, gosh. The plot thickens. I know what happened here. He spotted her. He wanted it in on that, got into a living situation
Starting point is 01:04:12 because he didn't have a great place to live because he spent all his money from gambling if he's an addict. He's using the girlfriend to have a place to live. He's now gaslighting and triangular. the three of them so that she turns on the roommate, maybe this girlfriend will pay for the whole place. I have a place to live. The other one is out since she wants out on a lease.
Starting point is 01:04:28 Or if they drive her out, they go, no harm, no foul. You broke your lease, not our problem. I actually do think that's probably what happened. I'm telling you that's exactly what it is. That's exactly what it is. And this poor girl is stuck in a really horrific manipulative situation. Did you hear that question before?
Starting point is 01:04:45 You just came up with that quick. And sadly, sadly, just all came bubbling up. Yeah. This poor girl is in a really tricky situation. Out. Get out. Yeah. But if the lease is in her name and if she breaks the lease, it's going to go on her credit.
Starting point is 01:05:01 History. It's not fair. So if her friend is listening, you get out. You go out. Yeah. Hey, Jake. An amazing guest. So I have this friend who some days I would say is my best friend.
Starting point is 01:05:15 And recently she hung out with a few girls from our friend group. And she dead ass spilled, like really. bad secrets of mine and it obviously pissed me off. This is Lila. This is my daughter. This is her. This has got to be her. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:26 Sounds just like my daughter. Is Lila the one spilling the secrets or having the secret spilled? Having the secret spilled. Okay, okay. She's a secret spiller too. Oh, yeah. I can be that as well. I'm the least confrontational person you could ever meet, but I want to say, but I want to say something to her about it so bad, but I'm just so scared help.
Starting point is 01:05:45 Oh. You know what? This is where you just, it's what Nicole says, you say. how you feel, say it really hurt me that you spent. And watch out, because if this friend's willing to do that to you behind your back, you asking and being very responsible about your feelings saying, this hurt me might result in nothing, but at least you tried. And now you know who this person is.
Starting point is 01:06:04 And this person, if they don't accept you and hear you and make amends, they're going to do it to you again. But on the flip side of it, you could fuse a very strong friendship. If you actually get in there, confront, work through it, you could end up stronger and better together. Yeah. Right. So you can go one way or another.
Starting point is 01:06:21 But she's got to at least deal with it. What might be hard is that she'll stew on it otherwise. Yeah. And you might not have those friends in the end. If they go, I don't care, you do it to me. Right. Well, then she'll learn what a narcissist is as well. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:06:34 Yeah. Well, Nicole and Sandra. My God, this was a serious therapy today. QM. It's here. Jesus. Tell us how you feel. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:42 I feel. I'm like, get out. Nicole's like, hold on. I honestly feel like really grateful that you. took your time out of your busy schedule you guys are like kidding no you're so thrilled you're giving us a place to like share something that we really are crazy about you know you're giving us a place and to be ourselves and to ask excellent questions oh thank you show show your vulnerability you're a real person no but it's it's really it makes it easy right thank you because this is
Starting point is 01:07:11 not an easy process like you feel like you need to shower but this felt really nice it feels like it feels good so thanks for having us on your cash this is where this is where this is where this This is a safe paneled room. Yeah. Yeah. Not all dark paneled rooms are safe. And everything stays within this room. Yes.
Starting point is 01:07:26 I've just so like thought if I had an hour and a half to pick your brain, there's always alcohol and a hot tub involved, right? Yeah. Always. Nicole, it is, it is dangerous and fulfilling and educational and got a new viewer. I think you would love housewives. I started with the original Atlanta Housewives. Okay.
Starting point is 01:07:49 I started, I started with the original. They're the best of the best, yes. But Salt Lake City. That's what I hear. The Mormon? The Mormons. Oh, I'm there with you. I'm there for the drama now with like the serious drama when they had to shut down and all that.
Starting point is 01:08:02 It's, it's, they, somebody like gets arrested by the FBI on camera. On camera. Bravo cameras are up and somebody gets arrested by Homeland Security on camera. Is this recent? Are they back up again? No, they're, this person just got out of jail. Her name is Jen Shaw. and she would always say, it's Shaw Amazing,
Starting point is 01:08:22 and then she got arrested by Homeland Security. I have no idea what you're talking about. Oh, wait a minute. This isn't the Mormon wives one. No, no, no, this is Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Got it, okay. And it is some of the best television. Is it air as good on that one as it is on the Mormon?
Starting point is 01:08:35 I don't watch the other one. Because I'm so loyal to my Salt Lake Housewives. There's no loyalty. How many... The real housewives are there, like, in terms of... How many franchises? Yeah. There's Atlanta.
Starting point is 01:08:47 There's Beverly Hill. There's O.C. There's O.C. There's New York. There's Salt Lake City. There's Rhode Island, which is fantastic. Is it good? That's what I hear. There is Miami. There is Potomac. We should do like a book club, but where we watch all the housewise and take their notes. I'd like the book club. It's a genius character study. Like, it's really amazing. These women are like, they bear it all. It's amazing. Early Beverly Hills is some of. That's what I hear. It's priceless. It's priceless.
Starting point is 01:09:14 Yeah, because they set the tone. They have in New York. Yeah. Beverly Hills, New York, they said, they were the dark dryad in the most brilliant way. You thought it up. Was it Ryan Seacrest? Andy Cohen. Did he?
Starting point is 01:09:26 Orange County was the first one. And then it just kind of, I think New Jersey is actually what took it off when Teresa flipped the table. Yes. Yeah. That was so good. And Scary Island in New York
Starting point is 01:09:38 when they all show up to the island and Kelly bin Simone has a psychotic break. I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm nodding as though I did. You have to go on vacation together when there's discord to some rental house that's fabulous and put them all together with alcohol and it's epic it's genuinely epic yeah i've watched the beverly hills one oh it's so good just the last season oh just the last one yeah actually faith and i watch a tiny
Starting point is 01:10:01 bit of leather i've noticed i'm on you like i've just i've just started sliding down you shouldn't do an interview with leather leather you make a note for that for future guests don't wear leather because i'm literally like hey nico she says she wants to be held when she goes home here i am You're so mean. No. That was decades ago. You are fine. I still would like to be held when I come.
Starting point is 01:10:27 You have children. Hug your mother. Hug every day. Oh, my God. I'm literally on you at this point. No. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 01:10:38 Yes. Anything else you'd like. Thank you for being here. Do we get swag? I was going to offer it. I didn't think you wanted. Oh, my God. Yes.
Starting point is 01:10:46 Yes. Of course. I want a hoodie. I'll give you a hoodie. I'll give your kids' hoodies, anything you want. You can take the whole rack. Okay.
Starting point is 01:10:51 Wow. Wow. Speaking of rack, I'm crushing you right now. Just my boob. That's the rack I was talking about. That was a segue. Bye, Pussies.
Starting point is 01:11:02 Five pussies. Don't be one. No. Be one.
