THESE GUYS! - Scott Hanson’s NFL RedZone Routine + Fake 49ers player + 2007 NFL Sideline Gear
Episode Date: September 1, 2026Imagine eating a bowl of salty Kalamata olives at 4am just so you can retain enough water to survive 7 straight hours on national television without a single bathroom break That is the l...egendary level of bladder integrity Scott Hanson brings to the table every single Sunday. SH is a certified machine but he's also apparently a massive gamer who orders Postmates and DoorDash at the exact same time to have them race to his front door. We sit down with the king of the witching hour to talk about his insane 70-inch home penta-box setup, why he drove a Chevy Blazer with a front push bar to smash shopping carts in 1989, and his career bucket-list dream of broadcasting alongside Mike Tirico. Before SH rolls into the clubhouse we mourn the tragic death of the ESPN ticker 🕊️ call out high school football players doing performative, slow-motion ski mask edits on Instagram and discuss the absolute genius of the fake 49ers player who committed to the bit so hard he pumped gas wearing a full uniform with a visor on.Then we hit the listener emails and try to figure out why the hottest girls always have a shattered phone screens, we decide vintage 2006 Reebok Steelers sideline hoodies are the tufffest of all time, and why watching the Washington Commanders play on a home turf (that looks like an ugly cow farm) is the most depressing thing on television (not a sports pod)🤝 *JOIN THE CLUBHOUSE DISCORD*TG CLUBHOUSE https://discord.gg/7X63C4HF8y📬 *SUPPORT THE SHOW*Hit us up on the email line: teamtheseguys@gmail.com🎧 *Listen to the full pod*https://open.spotify.com/show/0DCF4F4r78p0eXiD3fyh2Lhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/these-guys/id1649757408🍻 *Follow us on Instagram*These Guys! https://www.instagram.com/theseguyslolBenedict Polizzi https://www.instagram.com/benedictpolizziJoey Mulinaro https://www.instagram.com/joeymulinaroFollow our Facebook Page!https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61579678466463🧢 *50% OFF ALL MERCH with code BALD at checkout*https://www.benedictmerch.com

Dead quiet while he's running down the island.
That would be crazy.
Or when he does something, when he does something,
it's not even cheering.
Everybody literally just goes,
and so it's just an echo of the whole crowd, like a wave.
Not bad for a fat guy.
What up, Clubhouse?
It's Benny Politsy and Joey Mullinero.
On this week's TG, did they have Scott Hansen on?
And will he be the next president?
Probably.
Did they talk about how they wanted to?
to be the fake 49ers player
their whole entire lives?
No, they didn't do that.
It was the last time they cried
when ESPN took the ticker away?
Maybe.
But does the hottest girl you know
also have a shattered phone screen?
Absolutely.
Let's start the show.
T2-2-0-T-T-G-201.
201 and we're getting it done.
Right, go on.
Finish.
Right, get it done.
Finish.
Come on.
We're clean on the other side of 200 here.
Only Northram here, man.
Scorn on.
Skorn on.
Hey,
post 200 here,
we got a little,
that new backdrop.
I think we've got a new situation station set up here.
Hey,
you know,
about that situation.
Pretty excited about it.
Got a little bit of the bookshelf with the helmets
and the Troy P in the back,
some bobbleheads and some Cordell Stewart.
And,
you know,
fresh look.
You know,
we're freshen up a little bit.
didn't do a whole lot.
Just moved, you know, about two and a half feet to my left off the couch and to the bookshelf.
But YouTube viewers, these guys are well on YouTube.
I should know about that being pretty good about it.
Follow the YouTube.
Get up on their comment.
It's growing, babe.
Also, I mean, we got the dis, we got the, maybe the only ticker left in the game on our TG's.
YouTube video.
We got a ticker down there.
The last one ever.
We got the rundown on the side.
We're still holding it down for the tickers.
The tickers and the rundowns, man.
You always see those posts.
Oh, man, this was the era of SportsCenter.
Take me back to this era.
And it's got the rundown on the side.
And it's got the ticker going below.
And you know that you're chilling at Jordan Reeser's house
in July of 2008.
And you're feeling good.
You're hearing this?
do do do do do do
Mm-hmm
Mm-hmm
We still got it on these guys
And back-to-back weeks
Shoutout Clubhouse Clint
He tells me all the time
He's like dude
He's like you're one of those pods
That I love listen to you
When I'm in the car
When I'm on you know
When I'm working out
But it's just different
When I'm checking out on YouTube
Because of the things like the rundown
Because of the things like the ticker
Because of how you guys do your show
And the animated you know
The faces and all of that
that it's a good YouTube product but we appreciate you enough plugging up front but had to get
that out there yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah we got uh uh like a little little little known NFL
legend by the name of uh Scott Hansson on the show this week
SH SH SH SH unbelievable with Scott Hansen 50 minutes of the most high energy passion for football
and life and TV and pretty much anything.
that you can imagine.
Is he a machine?
He tried to make an argument.
I don't want to get too much away of the interview.
Tried to make an argument that he wasn't.
But while he was making that argument,
it was almost doing more to damage that argument.
Dude, just.
Hey, talk about a guy with the motor, man.
We like guys with motors, all right?
Did Scott Hans?
Just so the captain of his high school football team.
God dang it
Scott Hanson
The captain of his high school football team
That had a dad that was probably like an administrator
But then also
You know SH he liked to get down
Kind of behind the scenes a little bit
Yeah
Is his dad coaching?
Is his dad coaching OLDs on the side?
No I don't think his dad was coaching
I think his dad
When we talk about his dad
A little bit
Does his dad God?
I think his dad
is like the assistant principal
or like a city council member
and so from a very young age
SH was
knowing that he had to have a face for the public
he knew how to turn it on, turn it off,
he knew he had to be a leader on off the field
but then SH was down to
maybe to see if any car handles were open
maybe throw some eggs at some houses
Yeah you thought SH was a straight shoot
or you know what I mean
he's got the
the grade point average
he almost is
the valedictorian
yeah then you
then when you're a freshman
S.H. is a senior
you're going to
Fort Myers
all of a sudden you see
S.H. in the corner
of a hotel room
rolling up a B
on Bible paper you're like
SH is about that life
SH is rolling up on
Ditka chapter 2
Hey, no one loved S.H more than every single parent you ever knew.
Dude, yeah.
And even if he slipped up, they'd be like, no, S.H.
S.H wasn't at that party.
S.H couldn't have been at that party.
You know what?
Your mom would say something like, I mean, but, you know, with all the pressure he's under.
You know, because he's like the quarterback and the captain, his dad's a city council member,
very public-facing family.
you know your dad's like yeah sometimes it's good
just kind of you know let loose a little bit with the boys
you're like if I would have done that
chop it take it taking a hammer
bashing my balls
but SAHs is just like
you're kind of like you wish you were with them
all right there's a party happening
one of those parties you know your mom's not going to let you go to
you're fighting for your life trying to get there
don't know how it's going to work
out you can't go to that party.
All of a sudden you're like,
S.H. is going to be there.
And she's like, all right, you can go for a little bit.
S.H.
is going to be there.
We're in good hands.
Responsibility is in the building.
And you know, you're like, you almost don't even,
like you love SH,
but you almost don't even want to have them over to your house
because you know when he walks in
and he's going to be putting on a show for like 40 minutes
talking with your parents.
The friend that talks to the parents at the party.
Dude.
Dude, we got 2K downstairs.
We got a little bit of that liquor left.
Like, let's go.
What are we doing?
That's just out there.
Just like, now you said that you're going to be.
That's right.
How was that trip, Mrs. Molanero?
Like, and you're just like, huh?
Pretty good S.H.
You bang out of an S.H video lately?
Throw my hat in the ring.
I put, I like, I've tested the waters.
A couple of times.
Big S-H week.
Big S-H week coming out.
I've tested the waters a couple of times and I can never tell like what the feedback.
I think he's one of those people that like people don't necessarily think about in that way.
So I think when I put it out there, they're kind of like, huh?
Probably just wasn't that good yet.
But I remember I did one where I did like, it was when it was coming off the Olympics.
And everybody was talking about how he did the gold zone.
And so everybody was trying to do like, oh, he'll do everything.
And so I did like him do, I think I called it the green zone.
And it was on St. Patrick's Day.
And it was like him jumping back and forth from bar to bar, like updating the situation.
And it didn't do anything.
But I was like, I felt like that was a really great concept.
And like, you know, he's like, let's go back over to brothers now where Joey and Ben are getting another green tea shot.
You know, like I was doing kind of going back and forth.
Um, anyways, didn't do that well.
But, uh, yeah, appreciate it.
So, S.H is on the shh.
Sure.
Big it.
Big get.
Right before football.
Love it.
You know, you're going to be hearing that about 50 minutes, 50 minutes or so at S.H.
A real boss.
Real boss, dude.
Real, real, low key should be president.
President of the clubhouse, S.H.
Would be a, I mean, I can't think of a better one.
It'd be an honor.
Yeah.
Really would.
Like, dang.
I can't think of a better one
I did want to ask you about
because this has just been
everywhere I've looked
on all my group chats
Can't wait
Going on with this guy
Who's faking being a 49ers player
And why haven't you done that yet?
I know I was just thinking about that too
I'm like I've been faking being an NFL player
My whole entire life
It's the only reason I work out still
Yeah, I'm like, well, it's a missed opportunity here for Politi.
Jeez.
Been doing ladder drills at LA Fitness with a Steelers helmet on for the past five years.
I just didn't put it on the internet.
Yeah, we see that guy.
We're kind of like, oops, this has been everything I'm wanting to do.
What do you mean?
It's weird to order, yeah, a game worn helmet.
Wow.
Wow, with a visor on.
Wow.
updated helmet with a visor and a shut chin strap?
Wow.
What a loser.
That guy.
She's what a freak.
Wood sleep in that.
Good night, honey.
Strap up a 49ers helmet with a visor on.
Let me flip into something a little more comfortable.
Full uniform.
What's up?
Can't believe that guy.
What a jackass.
Meanwhile, I'm in my Joe Hayden, game worn jersey,
going to Meyer.
TC bands on.
Waiting in the self-checkout line
like a receiver.
Like you're about to get off press.
Yeah, dude.
I mean, I think it was just
on Friday or all of a sudden
my friends start blowing up the group chat.
They're like, I can't believe this is unbelievable.
This is the tweets in the post about this
are so funny.
I was like, I honestly hadn't really seen anything
about it.
it. And now it's all I'm seeing is this
love guy that was the 49ers dude with the birthday cake
and the drills of him like running routes and doing my
house. Dude, I follow a girl that
got got by him. Really? Like she's like putting videos
of things he was saying to her on her story like outing him
hard and it's hilarious. I'm like, wow, this really happened. And there's
other guys too coming out of the woodwork. And there's other guys too coming out of the woodwork.
there's like a Cowboys variant
There's like
Yeah
Yeah
People hey there's a lot of guys
That are panicking right now
Oh my God
They're gonna
They're gonna hit fuck
They're gonna get my Google search history
Shit
Steelers game worn
Yeah
Steelers game worn pants
With stains on them
Make them look real
They're throw away
This Viking comment
That I've been wearing
every day
The past seven years
Oh God
How fun would that be
And this is interesting too
And from your perspective
Because you're a guy that has been
You've been the subject of
You've been the I don't even know what the word is
You've been the piece of the catfishing
You're the guy that people are using to do it
Still going
Still happening
Talk about never
Never giving up my catfish bro
same guy same person same same i mean yeah dude he'll get reported blocked off of snapchat
next day new username different number at the end just a just about it bro no quit in this guy
you know i mean that's in another weird way besides us just kind of wanted to do exactly what this
guy's doing i you know i'm kind of like typically like cat
for like really I mean you're you're you're you're facing you're you're not not that tip of the
cap to like lie to people and you know especially women in that way but the fact that it's he's just
like yeah bro it's my face it's my name yeah creative way to get chicks you really think about it
so many other catfishes are weirdos who like do it with you who like try to use you to lure people in
This guy's just like, I got a chain and I bought a custom 49ers cake.
Yeah.
Do your own research, but I'm in this.
I know Michael Crabtree.
Just all that.
It's like, dang.
You know, he's not hiding behind.
He's not taking a picture of Christian McCaffrey and like making C underscore Mac 23 and being like, yo.
He's pulling up with the helmet on to take you out.
he's doing drills
yeah
dude pulling up to the house
with that like always has the helmet
with him too like commit to the bit
at the gas station pumping gas
I saw like swipe through posts
of people like
stopping him and taking picks with them
just because he had like 49ers
like this shirt
it'd be like this shirt but 49ers
saw all the team gear
you got off eBay that's so funny
crazy.
Yeah, it's been to dominate.
I'm wondering who's going to, yeah,
what other variants like you said
are going to pop out next, you know?
I mean, we were doing that.
We were doing that on spring break.
We were telling everybody we played for like Tennessee.
We literally bought for our hotel room
on spring break.
We bought one of those flags and hung it over.
It was like Florida State or something.
Oh, I think you might say Rocky Tubb.
No, no, no, no, we got like 10 different flags, dude.
Joe King bought a Kansas state and Oklahoma State.
He was like, what college are we from today, boys?
Hung it over the balcony.
I was like, let's go cats.
There's a Kansas State hotel room.
Jeez.
Just telling people we played special teams.
Flag you'd want outside of your,
flag you'd want outside of your boys trip.
That's a good question.
I don't think you can be.
a pro team. I think it has to be college.
No, college, bro.
Because pro teams aren't doing that.
Yeah.
And that's like having a pro team out there, like on a boys trip, it's almost like.
That's, that's 49ers guy, dude.
Dude, 49ers guy going on vacation hanging a Niners flag outside of his balcony.
It's up.
Swear to God, I play for him.
Yeah.
Flag you'd want to hang off your balcony.
I might just do it at my apartment real quick.
Bro, why do I think, dude?
I'm trying to think of a sick one.
I know he got some clubhouse from around here,
so you can weigh in.
But any time that I'm on a trip,
and I see a Georgia bulldog flag, I'm like,
dude, I'm a little scared.
That's what I'm saying.
I'm like, watch out.
Yeah, I don't know about that one.
I don't know about that.
Oh, dude, they're going to, hey, they're going to start.
barking at us and shit.
I feel like that hotel, that apartment or hotel or whatever then, it's just defense, dude.
I'm like, can't go away with anything in there.
No.
Georgia Bulldogs.
But also I'm like, I don't know, maybe it's like the weird, like one of those weird high schools that just rips that the Georgia and the Green Bay G.
You know what I mean?
Insane move by high schools.
Yeah, we got it.
Just take their logo.
Real quick, not a high school reminiscent pie.
This is something that I wanted to get to real quick,
and you dropped it in with high school football.
A couple things.
One, when and how and why have high school athletes,
high school football players just made the absolute jump
to just being the biggest cornball douchebags of all time.
or has it always been that way
we just didn't have social media
it's probably always been that way
just to have social media
I swear all I've been fed
besides 49ers a guy
is just like the most
it's all so performative
for Instagram now
all these high school players
have people who are making cutups for them
who are posting
like you know they're wearing like the
you got white dudes
like 17 year old white dudes
that are wearing like the ski mask
with their helmets off like doing street signs
and shit
and with their helmet with their helmet in their hand on the sideline
and they're doing more swipe-throughs of that like they're like not shaking hands
before the game they got a camera right there and shit just like you know
one kid from Bishop Gorman or whatever that he's like he's like standing
where the opponent walks in and he's like laughing saying like you're all
embarrassing or something like that y'all got lucky you all got lucky I'm like
dude, it pissed me off so badly.
And I was like, I don't care if I'm generation guy right now because I know that that's
just kind of a right of passage in a way.
And everybody was a matter if it was, 1978, 1984, 2011, 2009 or today, high school
football players are majority overwhelmingly.
You're going to be a douche.
At that point in your life, you think that there's literally nothing more important.
You think you're a God's gift to earth because there's people in the stands cheering for
you.
And you just have an inflated ego and you're a douchebag.
But I swear to God, at that point,
time up until the last
handful of years when Instagram and TikTok and everything
YouTube and everything's just risen
to an insane level. It hasn't
been this way where guys are like
going out on game nights
and going out for the team not because
of anything else other than just to get clips
other just to put it on
on on Instagram.
Like that kind of shit dude
and like where are the coaches
where are the coaches?
Now 1982
Who?
Hell, we get it.
You do that up there.
You get your ass beat up in the region where I'm from.
You get your ass beat.
Now you're on Instagram doing not shaking hands.
Oh, okay.
You got a visor.
You got your cleats are all expensive and you're just not shaking hands.
Okay.
Then tell you, go down to Bobby Knight and he choose your ass out.
My ass. High school football, man.
We used to not have a helmet on.
No gloves, barely any cleats getting our teeth knocked out.
And we were shaking hands out to the game.
Now they won't even before the game.
My ass.
All right.
A little crazy on dockets there, but it's just fucking, dude, I was like, this sucks.
I was like, these guys are such corn balls.
Like, I hate it.
I absolutely hate it.
I know I'm generation guy
I know I'm old guy but good Lord man
this shit
it all comes down to the dads
bro really does
so it's all about
you gotta have a a dad that's
gonna scream at you like
we grew up with like hard
dads tough dads
those kids don't I don't think those dudes have dads
I'm not even kidding
well but you'll see
you know it's like
but it could be just
that generation. It could be that to come at a generation station of like these kids' dads
are a part of that weird like elder like elder millennial era where like they their dads grew up
in the social media. I kind of saw a little bit and was like, oh, I can use this for my son.
And I can put him on. I can help make him big. And so instead of in our instance,
where our dads had no idea about any of that, it didn't want to know about any of that.
these kids who are 16, 17 now.
Some of their dads could be like 39.
They were like in high school when Facebook and, you know,
fucking Twitter was getting started.
Like,
I don't know.
Maybe it's because you can't torture kids like at practice anymore.
I think that's what it is.
Because like if a, like our coaches and like everybody at our high school saw everything
we did.
Even if there was a video or something that wasn't on the internet,
they like got the video somehow.
the next day.
Like, oh my God.
Mr.
Puntarelli saw that video
and then you'd be like running like
645 laps during practice
like kind of dying.
And that's why you wouldn't do anything like risky
or like show off or something
because it's like, dude,
we're going to get in trouble.
Everything I ever did in high school,
like I had those ideas of doing all that shit.
But I was like,
we're going to get in trouble, bro.
It's not worth it.
They're not getting in trouble, dude.
You know, it's like,
like I said, we've been there.
We've literally been there and lived that life.
And I remember having your chest puffed out a little bit in those Friday afternoons,
you know, not a reminiscent pod, you know, didn't grow up on the South Side.
But like, you did.
It felt cool.
But it felt cool in a different way.
Like, it felt cool in a more like community way.
I'm more like, oh, shit.
Like there's like little kids running around with like,
their old Roncali jersey's on.
You know what I'm saying?
Whereas like this just feels strictly like,
this kid's just like, oh yeah, I'm going to go post up right here.
Bring your camera over here real quick.
So I get this and post it on Instagram.
Yeah.
So make an edit of it.
I'm like, dude, just shut the fuck up.
So A you.
Performative is the best, best where I can think of.
All this stuff with high school football now is just so performative.
They're smack.
They're talking smack before the game going up to the camera and being like,
They don't know.
They don't know.
I'm like,
bro.
Bro, you don't know.
Your mom drives a 2023 Chrysler.
Your mom drives a 2023 Chrysler.
Your dad drives probably
fucking Rolls Royce or something.
Like, shut up.
They don't know.
You don't know how to drive yet.
Probably not.
Anyways.
I know,
I feel badly in a way because,
you know,
more and more people I see you follow on these guys,
L-O-L-L have like class of
2030 in their bio and shit.
So I get it, fellas.
Look, we've all been there.
But I just, listen, I think at some point
if you're doing that performative shit
when you're 32, 33, 35, 52, like Benaz,
you're going to look back and be like,
hmm, wish I wasn't like that.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Anyways.
I don't know, man.
Hey, we celebrate it after the victory around here, right?
Hey, head down.
Keep working.
Skip.
Skip.
Real quick, what's going on?
The ticker's going to be gone?
Yeah, it's sad.
Last ticker left.
These guys' podcast.
I don't even, I don't remember seeing why.
I don't even remember seeing.
It's a cleaner look, looks more professional.
Oh, my God.
I guess they did it for like big games, national championships, no ticker.
Ticker.
network.
I don't know, but it's, I don't know.
I love the tick.
Like, what's wrong with that?
It's like, it's like, what if you took the ticker off the NFL draft?
Like, it's kind of, it's, I mean, it's way more important during the NFL draft, but I like
seeing who scored down there.
Oh, they came back?
Or even like, you know, in the late September, early October games on a Saturday, all of a sudden
you get a little ticker on there and update on the, you.
the ALDS.
No way.
Oh,
wow.
Some big memories on the ticker, bro.
Right.
Aaron judges went deep.
Oh, man.
Yeah,
playoff baseball is on too.
That's cool.
Never forget, dude.
Outside linebackers coach in high school.
Not a Roncalli podcast.
Hey, you want to train your eyes
to look at two things at once.
All right?
You're playing outside linebacker.
It's how you practice.
In between two days, you're sitting on the couch, watch the game,
and the ESPN ticker.
Boom, boom, boom, boom.
You're looking at your gap.
You're reading your gap and you're reading your run responsibility.
Two things at once.
Let's go bring it up.
Nice.
Good.
He's right.
I know.
I was kind of like, God, I can't wait to do that when I get home.
Not even on defense.
Can't wait to do that.
Good point.
Get your feet up.
I'm trying some Gary, watch some ESPN.
Train your eyes, man, Skip.
I don't know.
I just, I'm like, I don't want to be held hostage to this.
What, to the game?
Yeah.
Yeah, I know.
Like, you're never really going to go to commercial break.
Maybe this game is what, I want to see, I want to be able to have an idea of like,
oh, wow, I'm going to flip over to NBC real quick.
You know, it was so sick.
And it honestly blew my mind the first time I saw it when ESPN went to commercial.
And the ticker was still on the screen.
I was like, oh, they forgot to take it down.
They forgot to take it down.
But then they kept doing it.
And I was like, oh, we're kind of still on.
Like, I'm not held hostage to commercials right now.
We're like, we still got a little ESPN.
I don't mind watching commercials as much.
Right.
Kind of insane.
Kind of insane.
Like when during college football games, they'll like split screen it real quick
and there'll be like a Lexus commercial here and the game's still on here.
I'm like, whoa.
That's how you do commercials, babe.
Yeah, I know the argument out there is probably like, well, you know, just put on the perfect,
Scott Anson, you know, put on put on the quad box, you know, put on the YouTube multi-channel or multi-box or whatever for college football when you got it on.
But it's still just, you know, it bothers me because, and I do, I'm a multi, I do the four-square box, absolutely.
but you know I feel like it's always like not the right combination of games there's always a whack one on up there so then the game or two that you want to watch are on a smaller bit of the screen you can only have the audio on one then you have to flip back and forth the audio so I do it when I need to I do it when it's that full slate of games at the 330 slot what have you but still it's like man what if I just want to throw it like have my main game on that and then have that dude you got to have that again it goes back to you got to have that right you got to have that
remote responsibility, remote discipline, TV discipline.
It's like, hey, this is my main game.
Okay, 3.30, right?
I got Florida State Clemson.
Okay.
But also at 3.30, I got, you know, Michigan, Illinois.
Be alert.
I want to be checking in on.
Commercial? Bang.
Bang.
You're the remote responsibility.
Boom.
Right.
You're the guy.
You're the remote captain.
taking responsibility of this whole living room right now.
Bang, commercial, bang.
Can't slip.
It's like made the experience a little bit more worthwhile.
Dude, I'm kind of a split screen hater.
If it's not one game, I'm not even watching the, I'm not watching, really.
It's like two games at once.
I'm like, I mean, I guess I'll just, I'll listen to it maybe.
I can't see, I can't really see anything.
It's kind of like, you know, to a greater point.
Hey, when you're trying to reach people,
if you're trying to talk to everybody,
really talking to nobody.
All or nothing.
If you're trying to watch all four games,
you're really watching no games.
It really is.
I'm like, we're not watching anything right now.
There's just a bunch of like no,
like a mess on the TV.
I'm like, who's actually like, who in the world is like,
oh, oh, oh.
I'm like, tour on commercial.
One you can't hear.
One's always Iowa State.
Well, that's the other thing, too.
It's like, that's the bitch of it.
How many good games are there?
Right.
That's the bitch of it.
Is it because you have, okay, you got the four, right?
You got the box of four.
And, man, if you can get to where you have three really good games,
you're like, okay, this is big.
I got my eyes on all three.
But inevitably, like you mentioned, you got the fucking runt of the litter up there
in the upper left corner.
That's just hogging screen,
but you can't do just a three
because then when you do just a three,
it doesn't have the right formula.
It doesn't have the right dimensions
and you got the black bars there.
So now it's all messed up.
I'll cut my head off before black bars are on my TV.
You really will, dude.
Gouge my eyes out.
Black bars are TV and wires hanging out.
Hey, mounted TV.
Wow, looks so good.
bunch of cords hanging down from it.
I'm gonna kill myself.
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
So hold on. You guys told me to listen to this podcast
because it was like funny and relatable, but they
just complained the whole time.
They just talk about
like high school boys literally having fun.
Like let them live their life.
Like you weren't a high school at one time.
And then just complain about football.
Literally they wish they're in high school still.
Um, shouldn't this podcast be called like
glory years or something?
be
yeah
they like think they're street smart
yeah
it's called these guys
but it should be called those guys
because they're definitely those guys
who still wish they were in high school
fucking literally live in the past
hey that kind of go hard
for a podcast name
live in the past
L-I-V
L-I-N the past
Matthew McConaughey's next pod
Jeez
Give us a preview of it
I don't really have a good McConaughey like that
Not on the spot
I got to really like
Lock in
Anyways
I know who's going to be really locked in here
Now that it is kicking off
The pig skin
That's right
We got high school football in the air
You got college football coming off week zero
And that is what we call
we call and the biz folks a segue.
The guy is going to be locked in.
Is our next guest.
And why don't we get to him, huh?
How about it?
Scott Hanson.
Clubhouse, our next guest.
Super, super excited about this.
He's a television legend who graduated from Syracuse University in 1993.
Orchman.
Has worked as an NFL reporter for over 30 years and has hosted the world-famous NFL
Red Zone since its inception in 2009.
You know him.
You love him.
You watch them every week.
It's Scott Hanson, everybody.
Dog.
Joey, Ben, good to be with you guys.
Good to be with you.
Good to have ball back in our lives.
Football officially back.
God, how's it feel?
You ready for this?
I am.
I am.
As I'm talking to you guys right now,
we just had our red zone dress rehearsal yesterday.
So we used the last weekend of the preseason to knock the rust off,
just like the players in the car.
coaches are. And it was great to have our team, our red zone team back together. And it wasn't,
you know, playing for keeps football, but it still gave us a little bit of the feels going to
yeah. Look at him. He's got the football on his hand. I mean, he's ready to go. He's my
who's enough of it. A little pacifier. Well, when you texted me about, yeah, I got red zone rehearsals
all day. I was curious. I was thinking like, all right, we just running back week 17. Do you pick
your favorite week of last year to do? So it's the preseason. So is there, is there a witching
hour in preseason? How does that work? We did rehearse the witching hour. If you were watching it,
it was not available to the public. So those who are watching this right now, who are like,
what do you mean? I would have totally watched Red Zone preseason. This was an in-house thing that just
us and the executives get to watch, just so everyone, we have some new people on our staff.
They got to get familiar with how we run things. We just used the preseason game. So we faked the
witching hour. It wasn't like there were seven games coming down to the wire at the same time.
And we called witching hour. It was just more or less we're to say, okay, let's just act like these
seven games are coming down to the wire at the same time and go through our motions of how we do
things. So yeah, the witching hour wasn't, it was not, it was not real yesterday. But when you see that
little clock icon and you hear me say, you know, it's the witching hour. When wins become losses and
losses become wins, you get a little bit of the, little bit of the feels.
I got rid of those substitutes for the authentic, the authentic McCoy.
I got a question. How do you, how do you keep your voice so smooth, like for a long day?
When you're just, when you're just on, like, what's the special, like, serum?
Routine. Yeah. Yeah. Believe it or not, it, it's, it's a little bit of Dick Hansen,
my late father had a great, strong, booming voice with which...
What a name.
Dick Hanson.
And he went by Dick, too.
No Richard.
He's...
Yeah.
Real deal.
He had a good, strong voice.
I inherited that from him.
And then it's, you know, I guess you could say it's professionally trained over the 30
years of my career.
But I famously don't take a bathroom break during the seven hours red zone.
So that means I can't really.
really hydrate a lot during Red Zone.
So it's not like I've got tea or they keep a bottle of water behind the desk for me.
But if I crack it open at the beginning of the show, there's only like that much of it
missing when I, at the end of the show.
It's I just, I'm very blessed in that way.
A lot of it is just natural.
And then the enthusiasm, the voice, it's not, I don't fake anything on Red Zone, right?
If my voice goes to a certain area, it's because the football action.
dictated that it go to that area.
Is it, yeah?
Is the restroom thing, though, is that just now kind of a source of pride for you?
I feel like at this point you're far enough in.
We can probably work out a little station underneath to take care of some stuff.
It's a great question because people do think that I'm thumping my chest about it,
which is not the case at all.
I mean, I do have a very strong bladder.
I am known as the man with the most bladder integrity in all of not only sports television,
maybe broadcast television.
But here's the thing, Joey.
I could take a bathroom break.
I'm not trying to be a hero, right?
We could say in the late window or something,
hey, park it on this Cowboys game
and hopefully DAC gets a few first downs
and I'll run to the men's room.
But the issue with that is they kill my microphone,
but my earpiece, we call it our IFB.
My IFB is still wireless.
So I could still hear the games going on.
And I am convinced that if I ever walk away from Red Zone for the first time in like a dozen years,
that I'm going to hear like Jim Nance or somebody calling one of the games going,
that may be the greatest touchdown I ever seen in my broadcasting career.
And I'm going to be zipping up my fly running back down the hallway going, I knew it.
I knew it.
So it's, I don't know if you would consider that pride, professional pride or not,
but I, it's a little superstition.
And I'm like, I'm not leaving because I can just imagine the greatest thing ever happening the one time I think.
Right.
That's fair.
Yeah, kind of paranoia.
A little superstition paranoia.
A little bit of paranoia.
Paranoia.
You got to be glad that Gus Johnson's in the college game now because every touchdown is the greatest touchdown he's ever seen.
This is true.
And look, I love Gus.
Gus hits the high notes as well as anyone.
You do a Gus, don't you, Joe?
Scott Hats it!
Wait, give me a.
fake nickname. Give me a fake nickname that's not really my nickname that Gus likes to make up on the block.
Oh, man. Scott, the iron bladder hanson. That's so good. I love Gus. He hits the high notes. But yes, if there's any, all of us have weaknesses in our broadcasting game, sometimes it'll be, you know, third and six in the middle of the second quarter. And there's an eight yard gain. And Gus is like, well, over the middle.
Press set of downs at midfield.
Yeah.
I love Gus too.
I got to know because we asked this to all of our guests.
It's just a little clubhouse.
These guys thing we do.
Take me back to 1989.
Scott Hansen riding around what car you're driving
and what song is playing on your radio or on your Walkman or CD player, whatever.
Ooh, this is good.
Ooh, I haven't been asked this one.
You said 1989.
That was my show.
try to go to your seat near year.
Yep, yep.
I'm driving,
but,
I'm driving a Chevy
Blazer.
Ooh.
Chevrolet Blazer,
remember,
they still make them,
they call them trailblazers now or something.
I wanted one.
What color?
It was the whip.
And I had a,
I had it,
do you guys know what a bush bar is?
No.
A bush bar on the front of it.
It's that,
it was that thing,
it was an aftermarket thing that,
like a bar you could put on that would just like,
you could smash into something.
You know,
and it would,
It wouldn't damage the front fender of the car.
So, I'm going to confess this.
I can't believe I'm going to say this.
We used to go into parking lots, empty shopping grocery store parking lots.
And if there were any random shopping carts that were left out, they would, the Bush Bar would, we do a little number.
We were stupid.
And I still am.
But I'm driving a Chevy Blazer.
And you know what my go-to jam was, like driving into.
school on a, what would be, you know, eventually a Friday football, Friday night.
Tell me, tell me.
You two, where the streets have no name.
Can you, can you, you know, ding-d-d-ling, ding, ding, ding, ding.
Chills.
Yeah.
The, it, it builds up.
The edge has that guitar riff at the beginning that kind of starts off a little innocuous, almost
salt.
I want to tear down these walls.
I want to tear down the walls to hold me in.
inside, baby.
Oh, and Bono growling out the lyrics.
Oh, that was the jam and it went on.
Or born to run, Bruce Springsteen was a good pump-up jam too.
Yep.
A lot of good instruments in there, a lot of that's a good.
You know what those are?
Those are really good.
Like, those are going to show up if Red Zone had like a going, which they don't,
because you guys don't go to commercial.
But if like Sunday night football, when it's going to commercial break, you know,
when they show like the overhead.
headshot of the city.
Like that's something that you would hear Born to Run.
You know what I mean?
When it's trailing off to commercial break, I make a lot of those kind of videos.
So that's how my mind works for some reason.
If you really notice, if you really notice the Sunday night football audio, we call them the A1,
the audio technician number one in charge of the whole audio.
The A1 there is excellent.
Their whole crew is the gold standard.
They will do, they'll play Born to Run or something like that on the way out after
Derek Henry just popped a 50-yard run.
It's my favorite thing about the game.
It's so good.
And they're picking something that, like,
this play just happened three.
Like, Born to Run would be an easy one because, yeah,
someone's going to have a long run in a football game.
But they'll do something like, you know,
a guy drops a pass right through his hands,
you know, in a rain game.
And they'll go to commercial break with like,
slip sliding away by Neil Sadaka from 1970 or something like that.
dropping like, ah, yeah.
Yeah, you're dropping like it's hot.
Yeah, they're so good at that.
Yeah.
And I can't do it to Rico, but I just still,
it will always just be Michaels just in my head, you know?
Damn, damn Seattle.
It will be back after this, right?
And it's, you hear that song playing.
That's from Kermit the Frog sneaking in on Al now.
That's a Hall of Famer we're talking about.
A little bit of both, though.
I have to get a little, but Kerman is more up here and he's way,
because everybody always talks about that with Mahomes.
You know, they're all like, yeah,
Mahomes is current with the frog.
But like, no, he's not.
He's higher Coach O.
You know, he,
you can just understand what he says,
but he's got all the gravel that you can hear in Coach O's,
but you know what he's saying.
Now we're just doing voices.
I'm not trying to make it.
Have you always been able to do it?
I know people ask you this all the time.
Have you always,
you were a fifth grader.
You're mimicking all your classmates and the teacher.
That was, yeah, like, yes.
I mean, that was my thing that,
If I was going to be the class clown, it was I was making fun of the coach or the priest or the teacher that, you know, we all had or a parent of one of our friends that pissed them off.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
So then I just started trying to get in trouble for it.
Not that I could remember off the top of my head.
I wasn't too overt about it, you know?
Because like my mom, she beat my ass if I got in trouble.
So I wasn't trying to really like have a teacher call.
I met your mom.
I met your mom.
I did.
I did.
Tell her I said high.
Tell her I said high.
I actually this is an interesting it's an interesting dynamic Scott and she'll love that because she listens every week obviously yeah um so she says hello but she she loves you obviously you met her she was she was a fan girl in she texted me last week and she before she even knew we're having you on she goes you should try to get Scott Hanson on he likes you wouldn't do it and I was like funny enough she's like oh that's awesome however we can't get her to get on board with Red Zone and it has nothing to do with you
Is this a common thing that you've heard from feedback from like maybe older generations that are kind of like, it's too much for my mind to wrap its head around?
Might be a model thing.
Obviously, it's galactically popular.
So I don't hear a lot of I don't like Red Zone very much, unless someone is just trying to be in the culture.
They don't really mean it, but they just want to hate on the thing that everybody loves.
But when I hear genuine, you know, I can't get into Red Zone.
it traditionally is the baby boomer generation or even earlier.
But I also hear from 70-year-old fans more like it reinvigorated my love of football.
Right.
Yeah. So I, again, not meant to, she loves you.
This is not a guy.
She is a football fan.
She is a football fan.
She's like the biggest football fan in our family.
So her complaint is it's too fast-paced.
She can't keep track of things.
I think what it is, and I'm going to put my mom on blast.
She's kind of a control freak.
And she doesn't like this.
She doesn't have control.
Yeah.
You're in control.
Our boy.
Our boy's in control.
That is one of the, you have to suspend your ability to go boop, boop, boop.
I mean, you want to talk about control freak.
Let me show your audience this, right?
Hey.
Let's go.
Hey.
This is a home setup in Los Angeles here.
That's a 70 inch surrounded by four 50 inch TVs.
and I am the remote control wizard at my own house here and have that humming.
I just had it on before we started the interview, but I didn't want it to be distracting.
What was on?
What were you watching?
Well, as we are, will this go out to public at the same time?
Because it's, it's week zero of college football.
Boy.
Week zero, which whatever will take, you know, call it what you want.
Better than nine.
So I had TCU, North Carolina.
on the big screen.
That was the best college game coming up.
Like USC plays later today.
Somebody else.
I had a replay of preseason games from last night on NFL network.
I had whatever.
Oh, I had the channel that's going to have the USC football game on.
I just had that on standby waiting for the kickoff.
And then I had, I think, news and a movie on.
And I'll be tasking at home.
I've seen the end.
Yeah, go ahead.
When you're not watching football, what are you watching?
Like, what's your like, I got to get away from this show or like thing you do?
When you're like, I just can't, like, I need a day without it.
Do you know what?
I still want, I not want.
It's just as a, it's like my brain has a groove that needs information being tracked through it.
I play video games.
And if I want to totally decompress, I am a 16 year old nerd.
RPG, classic one-player RPG's role-playing games, like think Dungeons and Dragons type games.
Whoa.
I'll play that.
And I'll put that on the, I'll put that on the center screen.
And I'm, you know, leveling up my guy going on quests, all this other type of stuff.
And then I still put movies and news or something like that.
But usually only movies I've seen before.
So I can just have it on mute.
And I'm like, okay, the Avengers.
Yeah, I know every line of that movie.
So that's over there.
and then maybe, you know, some sports program that there's no big game on, just have some sports on,
and then news in case there's something breaking news.
And I will sit here and that's how I space out.
I don't want to talk to anyone.
I don't want to talk to me.
I'm just, I'm good with that.
Are you eating something too?
You know what?
Are you eating something too?
Like, what's like you?
I feel like you're pretty locked in.
Is your question, do I eat food?
Yes.
I am a machine.
I am a robot.
I'm not a cyborg.
What's the?
I think you are.
I'm not sure.
Like is this guy or this guy is a robot.
Like you're just too locked in.
It's too good.
What's like the vice?
Like what's like the junk food?
Like a sheet meal.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There you go.
So, okay.
So my red zone Sunday,
I'm in Los Angeles, right?
So Pacific Time.
My red zone Sunday begins at 4.4.30 a.m.
I think I have the alarm set for 430.
And I almost never hear the alarm go.
off because I'm up at 429 on my own. Like the alarm doesn't wake me up. My body is like football
Sunday. We only get and I always yell, you never hear it at home and you're in the audience at
home, but I always yell to our crew when they give me like the 10 second count before the show is
going to begin. I'm like, you only get 18 of these all year, people. Enjoy it. In the middle of June,
when there's nothing going on in the NFL, you'll be dying for one of these.
So my body is ready.
So 4 a.m. I'm up.
I grab a shower.
I don't drink coffee.
I don't need any caffeine.
So I'm good to go.
I head into the studio.
I like to be the first one in there.
I have a big breakfast.
The chefs at the network make me the same big breakfast.
They've been making me the same thing for 15, 18 years to get ready for red zone.
Scrambled egg whites, a turkey burger patty, no bun, salty, crispy,
bacon, salty so I can retain water, mixed fruit, chopped up mixed fruit. And then for a little bit of
carbs, a little bit, a little bit of sweetness, I'll do like a muffin, like cornbread muffin,
blueberry muffin, something like that. And then I'm good. Oh, and then the magic ingredient on
the side, Kalamata olives, you know, the purple, purple, bluish, Kalamata olives. I love the sodium.
And again, it helps me retain water for the whole bathroom break thing.
I eat that three hours before the show begins.
And then I do not touch food again until Sunday night football when I'm back here on the
couch watching.
So that's like it's about 10, 11 hours without food.
And then expending a lot of energy, you know, staying locked in on all the games and
broadcasting and all of that.
So I'm hungry.
When I hit this door and come back home, I,
am known to simultaneously on my phone order hostmates and DoorDash and see which one can get to
my house first.
I love this.
I'll do like a bacon cheese burger and then like Chinese and have them race to my front door.
Or I'll go Mexican, like a big sloppy, greasy burrito.
Amen.
And pasta, Italian, and have them race to my front door.
door.
Bro, this is like, this isn't the hunger.
I mean, it is the hunger games, but it's also the Hanson games.
Like this is, you're like dueling to the death to have them get there first.
Do you, so, I mean, do you honor that?
First one there, that's what you're eating or is it kind of whatever you're feeling?
Honestly, if you really know, like back to like your mom is a control freak, I try and
time it up where I'm like, this guy's going to be here two minutes before this guy.
So I can grab his stuff from the front door, put it over on my catch and counter to get
ready. And then by the time I have that food ready to take my first bite, the doorbell's ringing
with the second one. I don't do it all the time. I'm not a glutton. I don't believe it gluttony.
But you ask for a cheat meal when I'm blowing out all of all inhibitions, that's something
that I'll do.
I love this is what the clubhouse ever. You should, I don't know, maybe you have blast out that
breakfast order that you have. Real football fans, real Red Zone fans, that should be our weekly
routine. We should do it.
At the same time.
Sunday mornings, we're getting together.
We're doing that exact Scott Hanson breakfast order to get our bodies and our minds right for eight hours plus.
Calorie solidarity before a football Sunday.
Now we're talking.
I like it.
Okay.
Cool.
I do, you know, I was thinking about this, Scott, because, and not to get on a, this isn't supposed to be a too larger of a picture of an idea.
But in some way, do you feel like.
you are kind of the last great unifier.
Like, I feel like back in, like, listen, listen, let me hear me out.
I feel like back in the day, you, my parents, my grandparents, always like, everybody
watched John Carson at 11 o'clock.
Five days a week, we knew Carson was going to be on, and we couldn't wait to see he was on
as his guest.
Or, you know, we all gathered around to watch Cheers on Thursday night or whatever.
I feel like today's day and age, you and Red Zone are really the last thing.
where everybody is like, yep, let's do it.
I've never thought about it that big a picture.
I've kind of kept it within the sports world or more specifically the football world.
I have thought about my role as, now, I'm an old man.
I'm 55 years old, okay?
So I go back a while.
I go back to the late 1970s when I first became a football fan.
I'm like eight years old, nine years old, just learning.
what the game is all about.
And the definitive voice and face of NFL broadcasting was Howard CoSell,
because he did Monday night football when Monday night football's trajectory was like this.
And more specifically, Howard CoSell did halftime highlights, Monday night football,
half time highlights, obviously pre-Internet, pre-ESPN, pre-PN, pre-Cable television.
So the only way to get a look at, I grew up in the Detroit area,
what did the New Orleans Saints do this weekend?
What did the Pittsburgh Steelers do?
What did the, whoever was to watch Howard CoSell and halftime highlights.
And it was absolute must-see TV and everybody wanted to watch it.
Well, fast forward into the 80s and into the 90s, Chris Berman on ESPN, NFL primetime.
absolute must see TV, the 10,000 foot comprehensive view of the NFL, right?
And then fast forward into the, well, since 2009, when we started NFL Red Zone,
the definitive way to get the comprehensive view of the NFL.
And of course, now there is social media, there is streaming,
there is Sunday ticket, there are the ways.
But the one-stop shop to get the best look at the NFL is NFL Red Zone.
and what we have an advantage of is Howard CoSell did his thing a day after the games happened.
Herman did his thing hours after the games had happened.
We do our thing instantaneously.
And I bumped into Chris Berman a few months ago at the where was I was the awards.
SPs or something?
No, it was the Emmys.
It was the sports Emmys.
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
The Sports Emmy Awards, and we were at a cocktail party afterwards,
and he came up to me, and of course, you know, Boomer's a legend, right?
He comes up to me, he goes, Scott, I could not do what you do on Red Zone.
And I go, Boomer, I go, come on, man, come on.
He's older now, and I'm saying, are you saying like, because you're older now,
or in his prime, boomer would have been legendary doing Red Zone.
But just the fact that he even acknowledged me in the same class as what he did, what Howard
CoSell did, what the other great broadcasters in football history have done is amazing.
More specifically to your unifying question, good night.
I never thought about like Johnny Carson or someone who was like kind of universally love
for the role that they did and gave their talents to it.
But if that's the case, if, I mean, that is so humbling, Joey, I can't even,
I can't even imagine even wrap my mind around that.
like I said, I'm always watching news, right? And I'm aware of society. We are as polarized as human
beings. Certainly, we are as polarized as Americans as it feels like we've ever been in my lifetime.
And yet, there is something that can, that they can bring people together. And it's this great game.
And then the vehicle by which they watch it, NFL Red Zone. It's a mind-blowing thing.
Joey, honestly, it is.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, it's well, well deserved, dude, because, yeah, I mean, I remember being 16 years old.
And, you know, in 2009 when Red Zone Canada came about.
And it was kind of this weird, like, not weird.
It was this underground, like, is that a real thing?
It seems too good to be true.
You know, your one buddy and his dad, his one buddy and his dad would have it.
And you'd be like, well, shit, we got to get over there because this Red Zone thing.
There's no commercial.
What does that happen?
So you think you watched it in 2009, you watched the inaugural.
season, do you think? My son's, my son's godson has been one of my best friends my whole life.
His dad had it. And they're huge into fantasy football still are. And we call him Chuck E.
We go to Chuck Eby's house and we would watch Scott Hanson and NFL Reds. And they still do to
this day. I know that. So yeah, I mean, it's really insane.
Well, let me tell you something real quick on that. Because 2009, you know, we have our first season
Sports Illustrated, and, you know, sports Illustrated's not what it was when we were all growing up, of course, but Sports Illustrated, they did in December, like right around New Year's end of December 2009, so the end of the 2000s was happening.
They did a decade in review issue, I think, or segment.
And they named us, they named the top 10 sports innovations of the 2000s, right?
So it was HD TV and technical things.
And they put us on the list.
We had existed one football season.
And they had already said, this is football heaven.
This is one of the greatest innovations in sports in the last decade.
So you only need to try it once.
And almost everyone is hooked after that.
For sure.
The people knew.
Ben, what do you got?
Let's see.
Looking at your teeth, man.
They look great.
What's the, what, you got to slide the routine.
What's going on?
Are you white strips?
What's the toothpaste?
How about this?
A, they're real.
B, no braces ever.
Oh, he's organic.
Organic.
Farm to table teeth.
No, I do use one of those sonic powered toothbrushes.
That's awesome.
And I am a flosser.
And no, I'm not lying to you like people lie to their dentist.
I do floss.
Uh, but, yeah, no.
But I never had anyone compliment my.
Man, that's all I see.
That's all big time.
People watch Red Zone for football.
I'm like, I'm here for the teeth, man.
That's right.
Well, I'm just thankful the football often puts a smile on my face.
That's all.
There you go.
You're the bad.
Hey, has there ever been a talk about somebody else, like a player analyst coming in with you?
If there has, they haven't really brought it up to me.
they might talk about it.
There's a little bit of, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?
Sure.
I mean, like.
And this is not a suggestion.
This is just out of curiosity.
I got you.
If they talked about it at all, it would be like us three talking about it.
How would you do it?
How would you implement it?
Because ultimately, I'm, I'm a air traffic controller, right?
I'm not the pilot flying the plane necessarily because there's 20 planes, or let's say eight on a
early window Sunday.
There's eight planes, and we got to, they have their own pilots.
They have their own play-by-play and color commentators in their booth.
So I'm just the one going, okay, it's your turn, get down.
It's your turn, fly up.
And then I lay out, let the pilots, so to speak, do their thing.
If you interject another voice in the studio, and that person's commenting on everything,
we're stepping on more of the play-by-play and color commentator who are in the booth
in that stadium.
And I try to, I try,
some people that complain about me will say,
you talk too much, right?
You're stepping on all the stuff.
And I'm,
I am honestly trying to not talk over any live snap.
I want the play-by-play man or woman in the booth to do their job
and to,
and to ride that wave with the crowd noise and everything else like that.
If I'm talking over live action,
it's almost always,
we cut to a play in the middle of the,
play and I couldn't avoid it or it's in a double box or a triple box and I need to do that because
if we go to let's say we're in a triple box right here if you're in a triple box and there's action here
there's action in yours there's action in yours there's three voices going what are you going to do
you're going to go 33% audio on all three of them no way you got to have one singular voice
to be able to do it and then I can go Lamar Jackson
an incomplete. Josh Allen hits the pylon. He's in for a touchdown. Mahomes to Kelsey.
First and goal, Kansas City. I can do that. No one else is able to do that at that point.
So, yeah. So like color commentator coming in, it would be another voice. It would be another
stream of information that would be, would probably be more convoluting than clarifying.
Yeah, not, again, not a suggestion. It's perfect. Everybody,
would hate that, but I just know how, you know, how some big bosses can get and how people can be
like, hey, maybe we should try something this. And so I wanted to know. Basically, I kind of want to know,
like, who would you want to be in the studio with you, you know? You want a little, little,
yeah. I mean, I'm a fan of our industry. I watch them all, as evidenced by my home pentabox.
I watch them all.
And of course, I don't watch,
like a football player doesn't watch
a football game the same way we do.
Professional football player watches it differently.
I watch sports commentators,
sports broadcasters,
differently than the average fan does.
I look at, why did they make this choice?
Why did they say this instead of say that?
Why did they not say anything here?
Why did they say something here?
Why did they talk to this video
as opposed to this graphic?
I dissect all of that.
So I love all of ours.
Good night.
I mean, funny enough, it wouldn't be a color commentator necessarily.
I would love, before my career ends,
it would be a thrill to do a show or a segment or just be on a broadcast
with a couple of my inspirations.
Bob Costas was, I went to Syracuse University,
almost everyone in my generation of classes at Syracuse.
Syracuse went there because Bob Costas went there.
Sure.
You know, the greatest, he's semi-retired now,
but the greatest sportscaster for a 15, 20-year stretch.
Al Michaels might be on there as well.
I've done a couple of little things with Al.
And then current generation, Mike Tariko, another Syracuse.
Oh, my gosh.
Carrico is uncanny.
When I see him at something, I'm like, Mike,
And he's a Syracuse guy, so we have that in common.
But we've never done a broadcast together.
I'm like, Mike, you are scary good.
And what I mean by that, Mike, you got to go, you are scary good.
Because when I watch, when I'm sitting here watching everyone and listening to everyone,
I'll watch a game and I'll be like, yeah, I could do that.
Or I'll see a studio show.
And I say, okay, they did a good job.
I could do that.
I'd be about that area.
Tariko does some stuff.
And I go, that is awesome.
and I don't ever think I could be that awesome.
And it kind of scares me like, whoa, I see my ceiling and I'm not there.
But I admire it.
I admire greatness when I see it.
His, I mean, he's done some stuff.
Can I go on a 30-second riff here?
Yeah, yeah, go.
Do whatever you want.
He's done some stuff.
Go back and YouTube his clothes to the gold medal hockey win for USA over Canada.
this most recent Milan Cortina Olympics.
His close to that was he talked for maybe two minutes
and was poignant, poetic, captured the gravitas of the moment,
projected it into the future with how many young men and women,
young boys and girls are now going to be inspired in the United States
to pick up a stick and put on some blades on their feet
because of what they just saw, spoke to the political ramifications.
It was unbelievable.
And the game was won in overtime.
So we wasn't sitting there going, oh, okay, USA hockey is up 5-0 going into the third period.
Let me write out this whole thing about them winning, you know.
Scary good.
It's awesome, delicious for a viewer to ingest.
But for me as a broadcaster, whoa, I don't know if I could ever be that good.
You know what he is? He's like if Shohei Otani pitched, hit leadoff, but then also could play centerfield and shortstop at the same time.
Like, Tariko, I mean, hockey, the NBA, the biggest NFL game, like the guy just does it all.
It's insane.
And can do it.
I mean, he works his tail off.
Do not think he's just a genius.
Sure.
He probably is a genius.
But he's just a genius and it just makes it look so natural.
another layer of his talent. He prepares unlike anyone. There was a moment during, I think it was
Olympics. It was either Olympics or an NBA game where he was a studio host. So he's doing the pregame show
and the post game show, right? Let's say it was the Olympics. And they lost the audio of the game
broadcaster's court side in the basketball game, which was the featured game. So when something
happens if a game gets stopped, you know, whatever, there's a lightning delay. They go back to
the studio crew and they just vamp for a while, right? They fill up until the weather system
blows through. Well, the game was still being played. It wasn't like the game stopped,
but the broadcast was dead. They had the cameras, but they didn't have the audio. So they,
somebody, when a producer got in Mike, Tariq goes here and said, Mike, can you call this game
right now? He had not, he had not prepared like his, you know, play-by-play boards as we
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Because he wasn't calling play by play.
He was a thousand miles away in a studio.
And he sat there and they opened his mic and he watched the monitor in his studio and
called the game without having prepared for it.
And you would have thought he was the play by play man assigned to that team for 82 games
that year.
Otherworldly.
So good.
So good.
So if I can do something with Tariko, that would be a career bucket list checklist.
And Mike, if you're watching this, you have an open invitation, my friend.
to come into the NFL Red Zone studio.
That's like that happened, man.
Ben, I got a few more.
What you got?
I'm good.
Go ahead.
Go ahead.
I wanted to know,
we had this question pop up,
Scott, from an email from one of our listeners last week, actually.
So I thought it was perfect timing.
They said, if you could re-watch one NFL season, what would it be?
And so I want to know from it.
Maybe it's just in the Red Zone era,
but what's an NFL season and your time hosting this show?
or maybe just being a fan that you would say, man, that one was just juicy and amazing,
and I would go throw that back on.
Delicious.
I love when you said that.
How about it actually predates Red Zone or am I only doing a Red Zone?
Nope.
Nope.
It's whatever in your life, I just thought maybe if you had one from the Red Zone time, whatever works.
Okay.
1985 to go and deceit.
every game of the Super Bowl shuffle Chicago Bears.
And I'm not a Bears fan per se.
I'm a fan of excellence.
That team, Jim McMahon, Walter Payton,
Willie Galt on the outside, the defense, the 85 Bears,
just to see how they smash people's faces for 16 games
and then crush their way through the playoffs and destroyed New England
in the Super Bowl.
That'd be fun to watch again.
And fun to watch, I think they do replay it like on classic throwback games, maybe on NFL network.
The one game they lost was the Miami Dolphins Monday Night Football at Miami, Mark Duper, Mark Clayton, Dan Marino going berserk.
They celebrated the 1972 undefeated dolphins.
Like at halftime, they did a ceremony.
and everyone thought these bears are going undefeated and it was the Dolphids.
It was that was like a Hollywood script.
You could see all that.
That would be one.
And then the other one would be maybe a little surprise you.
2007 for the New England.
I thought about that.
Yeah.
That guys.
So before I was the NFL Red Zone host, 2009, in 2007, I still worked for NFL NFL Network.
I was a roving reporter.
So they would send me to practices, news conference, games.
and whatnot. And the team that year was the New England Patriots, right? They were a buzz saw,
right? 16 and 0 and all of that and an undefeated regular season, smoking people 45 to 10 and whatnot.
Brady, MVP, Randy Moss, as great as you could possibly be a wide receiver, defense on point,
Belichick at the top of his game. That was the, so I flew and I covered a bunch of Patriots games in person.
That was the single greatest football team I have ever.
seen that didn't win the Super Bowl. Well, it's probably everybody considers it that. I would say
that's still the best football team I've ever seen. I've been to 17 Super Bowls in person. So I've
seen the champions of 17 of my, you know, adult years. That 2007 Patriots team, they weren't better
than Eli Manning Giants that day because the scoreboard said so. But they were a better team
than that New York Giants team that beat them.
It took the absolute Murphy's law of everything going on wrong for them,
for them not to win it, but that's what happened.
And that's another wrinkle of what makes this game unbelievable to us.
But I'd like to go back and relive that team, knowing it advance,
this team's not going to lose in the regular season.
And they're going to steamroll through the playoffs until the last three hours of the season.
Oh, I would relive that at a heartbeat.
What about you?
What was the season?
I said 2011 because that was my senior year of high school.
I feel like there was a lot of crazy shit happening.
If you remember, that's when the Lions went to the playoffs for the first time in a long time.
That's when an indie, Peyton Manning was hurt.
So the Colts were all out of whack.
That was crazy.
My Steelers were still, you know, we were in 11 and 5, so it was pretty solid.
The 49ers got really good because that was Harbaal's first year.
There was a lot of like memorable things.
It was a time of my life where I just like had no distractions.
Every Sunday, I just, that was what I was doing.
So I said 11.
Ben, you said 03?
I think I said 03 when the Bucks and Raiders were in the Super Bowl.
I don't know why.
That was just a good football year for me.
That was 02, I believe.
O2 season.
Yeah.
Yeah, I like that year a lot.
By the way, fun fact about that, did you know that that was the last time that the Super Bowl didn't have a buy week?
Oh, that's crazy.
They went right into it.
The Bucks beat the Eagles in the NFC title game, and John Gruden will tell you that their coaching staff,
Gruden flew back with the team, every other coach, coordinators, position coaches, quality control.
Everyone else flew to San Diego to the site of the Super Bowl because clock was ticking.
And I forget why it was in the 9-11 year, which was-
year prior.
The year prior, the Super Bowl was in the Super Dome, and because they canceled a week of games, they pushed it back and they had to readjust the Super Bowl.
So there was no Super Bowl by week.
But then the next year was bucking ears.
And it was, I think it was purposeful that way, which sounds wild because, you know, the NFL, they love to draw everything out as long as they can for visibility and for dollar's sakes.
But that was the, I'm 99% sure that was the last Super Bowl that didn't have a buy week before it.
Are the Bears Old Testament or New Testament?
That's a random question.
Ooh, let's see.
Let's see.
What vibe they give off to you, you know?
Well, the first image that popped into my head is Ben Johnson ripping off his shirt.
That was something that, you know, a brash King David would do back in, you know, in his, in his, in his,
wilder years of firing up his troops and whatnot.
So give me,
give me Old Testament.
Yeah,
give me old Testament because the Bears franchise,
you know, one of the founding franchises,
goes back to the beginning and everything like that.
He gets it.
Give me Bears Old Testament.
He knows that.
Yeah.
What's a New Testament team?
Like pick like the newest new testament.
Come on.
What's the vibe?
I love this.
Ah.
Hold on.
I'm going to come up with it.
Take your time.
They got it all day.
I can't wait for this.
Nailed it with the Bears, though.
I got it.
I got it.
It's going to go the opposite direction of what you think.
The last team that if we went through every team in the NFL, the last team you would think that I would name a New Testament team, which is not really the team.
It's two players.
The Las Vegas Raiders.
What?
A New Testament.
Yes.
because you have sinners converted to saints
and you have and you have
showing his work right now
new quarterbacks that thank the Lord
for everything in their lives.
Fernando Mendoza and Kurt Cousins.
I'm pretty sure.
I know Kirk does.
I don't know Fernando well,
but I know Kirk does
who visit the New Testament frequently
in their own library.
So I don't know.
That's the best I could do.
Tim Kibo no longer plays in the NFL, otherwise they go with his team.
Two quick ones here for you.
One, first thing it comes to mind,
ideal double feature on NFL Red Zone at the 1P and 425.
Like if the prime game at 1.8 p.m.
And the prime game at 425, what's Scott Hanson picking?
You're saying me take four teams and make two matchups?
Yeah, so like I don't know how it works, but on my head,
I'm like, you got to have like,
even though you're switching to all the games and showing,
and everything, you're like, man, this one o'clock game, this is going to be like, we're going to be on
this a lot probably. And at 425, we're probably going to be at this. And I'm super excited to call them both.
Yeah, the late window is usually easy because if you just pay attention to the late window,
which usually has three games, four games, occasionally five games in it, there's almost always
one that the NFL scheduled for a pseudo-national game, right? If you get Bill's
Chiefs with Nance on the call in the 405 or 425 kickoff slot.
The other games around it are going to be like Cardinals, Panthers, Titans, Jags,
you know, like, and the whole country is going to get that, you know, that national.
So it's a pseudo-national game.
That would be easy.
So I would say late window, yeah, it's been the classic late window matchup.
Give me Bill's Chiefs.
early window if we're really playing by broadcast rules i can't say like cowboys giants because you know
they're taking cowboys and giants or cowboys and eagles and putting it on football every time
yeah i'm not at football my name football third day cowboys every time give me like a legitimate
who plays frequently in the early window okay okay give me we've already given some love to the bears
the Old Testament Bears.
Give me Packers Lions.
Give me Packers Lions.
NFC, baby.
Vision rival at Ford Field or at Lambo kicking off at 1 o'clock Eastern.
You know, I'll watch that.
I'll watch golf and love dueling it out like that.
Love it.
Hate rivalry.
Old Testament.
That'd be good.
Lambo for sure.
All right, last one.
Movie about your television,
kind of a television counterpart cousin,
Chris Hanson that's coming out.
Robert Padsonsonsons is playing Chris Hanson.
Just when Chris Hanson's star was diminishing, and Chris is a talented guy, and I admire his career,
and I have no animus towards him, his star was diminishing, meaning fewer people were coming up to me
on the street going, Chris Hanson.
And I was like, okay, good.
Maybe I've distinguished myself in the zeitgeist of the American television public where
they don't call me Chris.
I'm thankful for that.
Freaking, he gets a movie made about his rise to fame.
and whatnot.
With Robert Pattinson.
I've never met Chris Hanson.
I've never met him.
We're not related.
He spells his name S-E-N.
I spell my name S-O-N.
But what was your question?
That's what I was getting to is I want to know.
Robert Pattinson playing Chris Hanson.
Yeah.
Who is going to play Scott Hanson?
That's for you guys to call him in Info Red Zone.
You are a Red Zone movie.
Touchstone here, Joey.
You call this one out.
Who would?
Who would play me?
You know what?
If I name someone that,
like a handsome movie star, then they're going to think I'm full of myself.
And I don't know.
I love movies, though.
If you name an actor, and I've aged, I've aged in front of, I'm 18 years older than the
first year that Red Zone came out.
So like now it would be who's like my age, like a Matt Damon or somebody, but that's
like naming a big Hollywood A-lister.
And I don't think I'm, you know, I don't know.
I think it would kind of come from under the radar maybe.
Like, you know, I think somebody who would kind of be a shape shifter, right?
Like, you know, maybe all of a sudden it's like the NFL Red Zone story,
the story of Scott Hansen played by Austin Butler.
You know, it's like somebody like that, yeah, they would have that reaction.
You'd go, huh.
And then you see him and they come up and they're like, welcome to seven hours on commercial free.
And you're like, holy shit, they transformed to Scott Hansen.
I'd be that kind of thing.
Yeah, I've seen his stuff.
He did Elvis.
He did some other good stuff.
Good work. Wait, Joey, are you throwing your hat in the ring?
Have you ever been on scripted, scripted programming?
That's always the dream and the goal.
You talk about a chameleon.
I would like to think that eventually I could pull off a pretty decent Scott Hanson.
So I would gladly throw my hat in the proverbial ring once that happened.
But I had to ask because of the timeliness of the Chris Hansen.
Anyway, Scott, we catch you over the time.
I got to throw some flowers one more time.
Yes.
You know I'm a fan.
Like you, when I met you, I told you this.
You doing the rewatchables.
I think it was the first time you, have you, had you ever done it before?
No, no.
I love the rewatchables podcast.
If I'm going for like a long run or a long walk somewhere, I put in an hour and a half of Bill Simmons and that crew,
breaking down some movie that I know and love, you doing that and being, it's Chris Ryan who.
CR, Sean Finacy, Bill Simmons, and Riscilla.
I laughed hysterically at you at you doing that.
Well done, Bravo.
You'll know I'll be watching and I'll be following on the socials.
That's very nice, man.
Thank you so much.
Scott Hansen, we kept you over the time.
You know, you're very busy man, but the passion, the energy, like I said,
you're the great unifier and just can't thank you enough, man.
Seriously, we're going to be watching all the year.
Appreciate you guys.
We'll see you Sunday, September 13th for the office for the witching hour.
and seven hours of Red Zone football,
let's freaking go.
Dude, thanks so much, bro.
Thank you.
You got it.
Bye, guys.
Yes, sir.
God, dang.
That is so good right there.
That is so good.
I want to debrief a little bit on that.
Not debrief a little bit.
There's a funny story.
I don't want to bring up to him
because I didn't know how he would take it,
but I think the clubhouse will think it's funny.
I think you'll think it's funny.
So when I met him out in California in spring of 2025,
I was at this athlete's first, well, I don't even know what it was.
It was just kind of like a convention, I guess, for athletes first, the agency.
Scott Hanson's rep by them.
He was out there.
So we finally meet in person and then he's Scott Hanson, right?
Like he is exactly what we just got.
He's exactly what you see on TV, very energetic, high energy.
and we exchange numbers.
And I'm like, man, this is so insane.
And I'm walking back after I'm done that conversation,
I'm like walking away to go meet my mom,
like I mentioned because she was out there.
And all of a sudden, I get the text.
You know, when you text people back, like right after you have,
right after you exchange numbers, right?
You lock it in.
I can't hear you for some reason.
But anyways, got me?
Yeah, got you.
Yeah, got you.
Right after you lock it in, you exchange those numbers.
All of a sudden, I get a text from a different number I didn't have, Scott.
And it's like, so good to meet you.
Looking forward to talking more.
Dash Scott Hansen, NFL Red Zone.
He signed it.
He signed an NFL Red Zone.
It was so good, man.
I was like, yes, this guy just keeps getting better and better.
I just have a signature or something.
He should be the president.
I'm like dead serious.
I think he could be the president.
And everybody would be like, yeah.
That's what I'm saying.
Who does also Scott Hanson, man?
It felt bad.
It felt like he was like, I tried to let him know.
My mom loves him and she'll have Red Zone on,
but she just gets weirded out because of how much it's just,
anyways.
It loves SH.
Scott Hanson before NFL kicks off,
going places, folks.
SH, SH, SH, SH.
Nice.
Hey, that's his,
day, that's his celebration
that makes a big play.
Even at home.
Bro, the crowd doesn't cheer when he scores.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Running 20, 15,
10, 5, whole crowd.
That would be the coldest thing.
Is that ever happened?
That's sick.
Dead quiet.
While he's running down the aisle,
that would be crazy.
Or when he does,
when he does something, when he does something,
it's not even cheering.
Everybody literally just goes,
and so it's just an echo of
the whole crowd, like a wave.
But you're walking up to the stadium
late for the game.
Kickoff is opening, kickoff is happening.
S.H. returns a kick.
Walking to the stadium with your,
with your boys, and all you hear is
you're at all.
Look at us, man.
I mean, this is just,
this isn't off the dome, folks.
I'm being honest, I have the chills right now.
I'm going to text Scott that.
Hey, yo, can you do this?
Is this a new celebration for you?
That is got to be the best thing I've ever heard.
I appreciate you telling me that.
That's too good.
My guy.
S.H.
S.H. reacting to absolutely anything.
Wow.
That is going to be the most incredible shit.
Absolutely stinking up the point.
fan on and you gotta love it.
Wind blows.
Oh my goodness.
The sound coming off those leaves
is something that makes you excited for seven hours
of commercial free football.
Everything is just that.
Oh my God.
Dog marks, he's excited.
We're excited to bring you eight hours.
Nice, dude.
He's excited and so are we in the pale Red Zone.
Hey, guy and girl, yeah.
Oh, wow.
He is getting hard down there and so am I because it is witching hour on Red Zone channel.
Shrap in.
Just doing that.
in front of your girl for the whole date.
I don't know why he keeps doing this.
Oh my gosh.
Another marketing poll.
There you go. NFL network, NFL Red Zone.
We need to make that, Scott Hanson.
Scott Hanson on a date, on a date, bro.
They brought out our appetizers so quick.
So quick.
We're ready.
They're ready.
They're ready.
We've been waiting all week for this.
Nice.
Now we're just making fun of our.
No, no.
We love S.H.
He's the man.
You kidding me?
All right, let's go get to the email led here.
Let's go to Team These Guys at gmail.com.
How about Liam?
I had an interview a better bit boy.
Whoa.
Liam says, team issue gear.
first time email or started listening to old shows over the last few months.
I sit in a few DMs, including one of me and Paul Puzzle-Los-Losney
after listening to the episode about Mel's best available next.
I find myself on eBay just about every night going and looking up team-issued gear
to see if I come across anything crazy for any team,
whether it's a pair of minute bowl's pants from his playing days
or a three-time oversized hoodie from an offensive lineman
that is ideal for the first cold Saturday in October
where you sit around and watch football for 14 hours straight.
Just wanted to know if you had to pick a piece of old team issued gear from any team, what would it be?
Smack my ass with all the clothes, NBA players put on after they sub out of a game.
God.
Good observation.
I always think about that.
Putting on pairs of pants when they sub out of a game.
I'm like, what was it?
Wait, what?
Long sleeve shirts, hoodies, towels tucked into the hood?
What's a big deal?
Like where are you guys going?
You're going to check back in.
Yeah, and like what is the temperature in there?
Well, NBA area, that's fair.
NBA rain is always a little weirdly cold.
You know, it's winter and then they kind of keep it.
And we've talked about when you go to a cold gym,
your armpits are sweaty, but it's cold dripping down.
And you kind of feel tight.
So I kind of get it.
Knees freezing cold.
Heating pads, though, everywhere.
I'm like, these guys are freezing cold in the NBA.
Hey, look down.
You're at not a local pod.
You're at St. Monica, you know, on December 14th for Saturday morning game, you look down, your kneecaps are blue.
It is so true.
I'm like, why are my knees freezing cold right now?
Weird cold sweat.
My hands?
Oh, dude.
Why are my hands have purple veins in them?
I was like, it's so cold in here.
Oh, dude.
Yeah, I do like, I guess it's probably because I didn't wear sweats even though my mom and dad both yelled at me while we were walking out the door to put those on.
But that and I don't.
It's still super cold in here.
That and I don't want to play at all.
10 a.m.
Tip, St. Monica.
I'm like, oh, my God, bro.
Literally.
have to be there at nine.
You're like,
you know, there's a game before,
bro.
It takes 20,
it takes 32 minutes to get there.
I guess my Friday night.
What are we eating after?
All depends on how you play.
Liam,
I got the answer here.
I want the sideline,
the Reebok sideline
Pittsburgh Steelers
hoodies
that they had in like
2006, 2007.
I got to pull this up.
It was the Reebok NFL.
So you already know,
best days.
They're very simple.
It had every team,
that's what it was.
It was the sideline gear for that year.
And it had like the slanted font for everybody.
And Pittsburgh would be in one color.
And Steelers would be in another.
I think it was,
I think there might have been a white in there.
No,
I think it was.
Oh.
bro, bro, bro, I think
this is it. This is the OG.
Is it kind of like the Bill Belichick?
Yes. Yes.
The one that Belichick is always famously worn.
Heart. Different.
Yep. Dude. Right.
Is that available on eBay?
Think so. No, it's on Deepop.
But yeah.
Same shit. Send that link to me.
Please. 2x. 2x.
Don't care. Even better.
Dude, cut the sleeves off of that.
That is the best one.
Good pull.
Because he said sideline gear and I was like,
that's all so corny now.
No, no.
Huge Steelers.
I'm like, bro,
they would never really wear that unless you made them and you're making them.
But this right here,
this is like,
this is actual team gear right there.
Dude,
that's like when it would be super freezing outside.
Like Ike Taylor and Troy Paul Amalo would have those sweatpants on over their game pants
while they're on the sideline,
drawing stuff up with Dick Leboe.
Mm-hmm.
James Harrison working out in that.
Yep.
Bench pressing unbelievable weight.
So much sweat drenched.
Steeler's sideline hoodie.
That's the one.
Please do.
I'm not kidding.
Send me that link.
I'm going to look into it and like I need that.
I want that.
Dang.
What about you?
This is like the best question ever.
It's so good.
Like I wish I had time.
But the thing that I really wanted,
I'm not even kidding about this.
When I was a kid, I just wanted, like, I know there's a meme.
I forget who the guy is, but he's just wearing a hat that says NFL on the front.
I wanted that so bad when I was a kid.
Just this clean NFL like, Reth hat.
I was like, I kind of want to wear that.
A black one in your backyard?
What's up?
Hey, backwards?
Catching fake punts in your backyard with the all black NFL hat on.
I wanted it so bad.
And then it happened and people started making fun.
of it and I was like oh god yeah maybe maybe good that I didn't but but they really sold it they
sold that like sports fanatics I'm like damn they just have the shield when the NFL is the NFL
bro I had I think I've talked about this before I somehow got yeah no it was because and you did too
this is where coach Burns and Rocco was born I had an NFL combine hat it was just a mesh
snapback hat that had the NFL combine
logo on the front.
And it just said NFL Combine.
And you had that random gear that I think Coach P got for your,
because he worked it or something.
That's like half the reason I worked the NFL Combine.
Fuck, yeah, I'm doing quarterships, NFL Combine right here?
Bro, long sleeve, dry fit, NFL Combine shirts?
Black?
Working out in that?
At L.A. Fitness?
Half, and people are like, wait, was he actually in the Combine?
And you're like, I don't know, was I?
Hey, technically
Oh, old love, old 49ers guy
Been doing our whole lives, babe
Oh, here's another good one
Like the 2005 NFL Combine gear
That had the random numbers
Aaron Rogers would be like 22
Rogers on the back
I would do anything for that
Dude, they had those baggy crew necks too
Baggy
DB 31
Yeah
It's like
Brandon Maryweather
Waring that to the
St. Jude Fest
That's what I would wear
on spring break
I swear to God
What are you wearing
tonight bro
We're going to the pier
Combine
DB 31
Longslee
Literally 90
92 degrees
Cargo shorts
What's up
Kind of smells
all part of the experience
part of the game, babe
I was there, you weren't skip
That's so funny
There's a lot more of those
We could do we could do a whole podcast on that
That would just be my first pick for sure
It's a great one
All right, let's go
Sorry, just checking on my audio
All right
Oh, good call
Let's go to
Fellow Joey
Joey. I appreciate the patience
you go right ahead. Joey says
Bring back the Burger King Pick Six commercial.
These guys love the show.
Group of the Midwest.
And do we all live the same lives?
Here's a little story time for the clubhouse.
All right, here we go.
In middle school, my friends and I
might have created the best way
to finesse our neighbors and get free stuff.
There were about six of us,
and we would break off into the teams of two.
We would then create a scavenger hunt list
with various items on it, such as pencils, pens, paper, tape, other random household items.
We'd also add things we wanted such as soda, chips, candy, money, gatorade.
Write these things on a piece of paper.
We would split up in the neighborhood and go door to door telling people we were doing a scavenger hunt for a birthday party we were having at the local park.
The team that brought back every item on the list would win.
After doing this for about an hour, we would then meet back up at our buddy's house with a stash of various items and enough soda candy and chips to last the whole night.
then the rest of the night we'd play hours of 2K
while also watching whatever was on ESPN
is this the greatest game ever
except for my iPhone 4
that had the whole screen cracked
and no working front camera
best Joey
dude that is so true
about those errors of iPhones
was it just because the time of life we were in
everybody's phone screen was so
messed up everybody's phone screen
looked like a spider web
it was yeah it was before they had the glass
it was like unbreakable you know
before everybody was like ride or die with cases
it was kind of like kind of cooler to not have a case
it still is cooler
but I think like we've evolved as humans
to the point where we don't drop our phones as much anymore
we have like phone security now
because when iPhones first came out
we're fumbling
it was on my lap I got out of my car
now we're like our phones are like
first priority
interesting yeah it's like a parent with their kid
You reach to get a kid.
Yeah, interesting.
It's like muscle memory.
Like, I'm not putting that on my lap.
Like, we had to learn.
We had to fail and break our phones to kind of like get to where we are now.
Not going to slide it into my pocket.
I'm going to slide it on the front of my pocket on the top of my leg.
So it don't fall out.
Take your phone out of your pocket before you get in your car.
You're going to forget it's in your pocket.
You're going to get out.
It's going to fall on the ground into a puddle.
Interesting.
Clubhouse conspiracies.
We've got some human evolution.
talk going on
and these guys.
Honestly,
texting and driving too.
It's like,
we're good at it now.
What?
Honestly,
dude,
like at a red light,
like I'm pretty locked in.
I'm like,
I got red light.
I mean,
you know.
And like going down the street,
I mean,
you got to send a quick text.
Like,
you're,
you're good at it.
We've been doing this,
bro.
It's like 15 years
with iPhones.
Like,
we got it.
That's a pretty,
interesting point.
Not so much on the texting and driving.
Don't want to condone that too much,
but the evolution of it.
Phone security.
Phone security.
Man, the amount of times that...
The first time you cracked your phone?
Yeah, my dad, man, my...
Dude, I don't know if I've ever seen my mom as mad as that.
My dad sit down on bleachers
at a high school sports game.
falls all the way through.
Phone security.
Now you're locked in.
You know where it is.
Boom.
It's going in the pocket.
Sealed up,
zipped up.
Most important thing you own.
Here's a little clubhouse.
How does some worst girl you ever met
most cracked phone screen of all time?
Miss her.
Was that,
am I wrong there?
Is that just a right of passage?
Direct correlation.
Oh, your hottest girl I've ever seen.
Can't read anything on your phone.
Okay.
Oh, your house girl I've ever seen?
Front camera hasn't worked in two years.
Got it.
Oh, the hottest girl I've ever seen?
Loudest texture of all time on a crack screen.
I have no idea what you're saying on there.
How's girl I've ever seen?
There's glass piercing all of your fingers.
There's shards of glass floating around in your bloodstream.
Hottest girl I've ever seen.
And they all hang out with the IU basketball team.
Okay.
That was cool fun.
That actually hurt when you said that.
Like, I want to end it.
Like, let's just end the podcast.
That's all for today, guys.
You got to reevaluate my life.
And now they're all married to a huntie.
Okay.
That's true.
All right, this is interesting here from Joey.
Never thought about this.
Randomly would have some things where, like, this,
I would be at a place where a scavenger hunt would just be happening.
Like, it was like a fun thing.
You had fun mom.
You had like, yeah, they had like activities and shit plan.
And you're like, oh, wow, we're doing this.
You've never been to that type of situation?
or you have?
I have.
Oh, okay.
But it was for like an actual scavenger hunt.
And it wouldn't be for something to just like, yeah,
do you have any skittles of your house?
It would be for, you know, baking powder or something.
You know, it's like, shit like that.
Oh, random.
Random stuff like you're not going to do anything with.
Right.
Look, you always wanted to do one of those.
Like shit like that.
But this is quite a strategy here from you and the fellas.
A few concerns here.
one, you know, what happens if people aren't friendly at the door when you're talking about this?
I guess it's not too bad.
They're probably just turn you away.
Okay, no big deal.
Two, one word, kind of, you know, depending on your neighborhood, I'd be like, and it's going to get back to my house.
Like, my parents are going to talk to Steve down the road and be like,
yes, you guys are doing scavenger house now when the boys are over?
You're like, what are you talking about?
and then it all unravels
and your whole scheme
comes crashing down
that you've just
essentially just been pickpocketing
So can you run that back
So he's they're doing what
They're they're going to houses
Him and his friends
Would break up into teams
So like say there's
He said six of them
So there'd be like two teams of three
Or three teams and two
And they would have various items
That they would write down
And go around the neighborhood
And like knock on doors
And be like hey we're doing
A scavenger hunt
for a birthday party.
Do you have this?
But it would be for like cool shit.
It'd be for like,
he says he used like soda and chips and candy.
I don't know, man.
I think that could work one.
I think it could work once back then.
I think in like 2007,
absolutely could have done that.
And people would have like,
oh,
yeah,
okay.
Hope you have fun.
Here's a,
here's a few bags of Lays mini chip.
They eat the little mini bags.
But now that's never working now.
Nobody's going.
People already been answered their doors.
Nobody's going for that.
Even back then, I'd be like, nah.
Like if somebody came to my door and at, my mom would be like,
what do you go away?
What are you talking about?
Right.
In what, yeah, let me give you all our food.
What did you go?
What?
Steal it like a normal high school student.
Go to Circle K.
Yeah.
Go to your local marathon.
Buy one thing.
Steal two.
It's part of the game.
Have your system worked out.
All right.
Send Joe King's big dumbass up to the front.
Have them knocked some stuff over.
Create a diversion.
Be like what?
What is this?
You ever hear begging for Cheetos?
Steal it like a respectable U.S. citizen.
Let's go.
Jeez.
No, I would actually.
start feeling honestly that game it's a crazy idea but i would feel bad after like two people
two random people gave i just can't lie you know i'd feel guilty at the end of the night you can't
steal but you can't lie yeah stealing i mean that's just hard work lying
hey you're deceiving people come on yeah i i think joey i think uh like one and done
i think and if you guys kept getting on getting on the thing get away with it you know cool maybe
at a system where you're hitting, you know, you knew which houses you'd already hit and you're
going to different places. But I think that's like a one time. You're like, hey, remember that one
time that we like, yeah, actually had a pretty sick night of random snacks because we just
ripped off all those people for the scavenger hunt scheme. I think it's one of those.
You got to a good neighborhood and run that.
Yo, rich friend neighborhood. I don't think I, I wouldn't feel too bad.
We also have this PS2 that my son just doesn't even play.
you guys interested?
Yeah, you get some, like, parents that are just,
they're just, like, gullible and weird.
Or it's, like, the empty nesters, fresh empty nesters,
got shit in their garage that they're just, like, dying to get rid of.
Like, are you sure?
Yeah, and it's all the rich, it's all the rich kid friends that, like,
you know, they get the coolest shit ever.
And they'd be like, Mom, you didn't get this version.
This fucking sucks.
And you're like,
What is just going on?
Yeah, dude.
So it's just like sitting in their
den in their garage.
You guys want this dino,
this bike, this dino bike?
Remember those?
Only the rich kid.
Only your rich kid had like the cool
trick bike.
Yeah, but he's like pissed about it
because they didn't come with
you know, fucking
uh,
what are those called?
Stokes, peg pegs.
Stokes.
Stokes.
Stokes.
folks
pegs
hey go pokes
what are we talking about
week one man
where's your head out
I got a new bike
with pokes on it
let's see
this is from a
clubhouse
clubhouse regular
Ryan says home team
teams that always play at home
in any sport in the league
bills cowboys jets
chargers chiefs raiders
Packers 49ers
Falcons
Yankees
Dodgers
Mets
Knicks Celtics
Lakers
Bucks
teams that never
play at home
Lions
Rams
Rams Washington commanders
Seahawks
Panthers
Rays
Rockies Angels
Magic
Hornets
Hornets rockets
Timberwolves
Capitals
Devils
any thoughts
sent for my
flip phone
I dried in
rice after I jumped
in my
rich friends pool
in my
N1 Jim Shorts
pocket
This is a good
this is a good one
I mean they're all good
but the emails
are hitting
so hard.
But, you know, if I saw
the Washington commanders
play at home, I would
jump off my roof.
I was just a, like, name a thing
you,
you want to watch less than that.
Oh my God.
Talk about the most boring thing I've
ever seen on my TV in my life.
Washington playing at home?
I'm like,
Jesus Christ. I got to go take a walk.
A turf always.
just so shitty.
So ugly.
September 8th home opener
playing on a cow farm.
What?
It's so bad.
I'm like, how could you ever want to go to that game?
All right.
Who did he say real quick?
Teams that never play at home, the Lions.
Yeah, Thanksgiving.
That's it.
That's their one home game.
Thanksgiving noon.
The Lions, bro.
That's home.
It's kind of true.
You never see it.
You always see other teams playing at their stadium like college games and shit.
Wait, the lions are, yeah.
Wait, the lions play at home.
Every Thanksgiving, though?
Yeah.
Okay.
It's going to be interesting.
He says the bills, and I don't disagree,
a lot of Bill's Mafia going on when you're flipping around on Red Zone or just every Sunday.
But it's going to be interesting now.
they don't have the old classic stadium.
I love the Bill Stadium.
It's going to.
I love. I know.
It's sad.
But I did.
I love their stadium for some reason because it looked like a big college stadium.
Yeah.
That was cool.
More fun.
I know.
Bill's playoff games are so lit in that old stadium.
It's like that's a party.
They're throwing snowballs doing snow angels, weird touchdowns.
Can't see the field.
I'm like, this is awesome.
It's going to take a lot of getting used to for everybody, I think, with the new Bill Stadium.
Like, the Steelers just played there in their last preseason game on Thursday night.
It was like just so disorienting because it's kind of like, are you trying to be a smaller Premier League soccer team stadium?
Are you trying to?
What's going on?
So true.
Too futuristic.
When the Steelers play the Bills, though, cool matchup.
Yeah.
right it's like hey just you know
Titans be the Titans
Bills be the bills
What happened to like Coliseum
stadiums everybody wants that
I don't know everything's got to be like
I don't know
Everybody's got to be cookie cutter
Everything's got to be corporate
where you can hold big money suites
You can have different events there all year long
It's not just football
It's like it's sad
You know what was really like
Revolutionary
or it was when
those AI stadiums
were on everybody's
TikTok for a while
that right there
somebody some rich guy
get a hold of those bro
turn the Jaguars stadium
into an actual jungle
and see what happens
walking into the rainforest
cafe to watch a game
I'm like this is insane
who's not going to that
in the background
yeah vines hanging down
oh there's our seat right there
yeah the cold's just like a
country western feel.
Like a big old barn.
Just like a Texas
roadhouse essentially.
Just like a big old Texas roadhouse.
Mm-hmm.
Perfect.
Yeah, cowboys
swinging doors.
Yep. Every section.
Every section.
kicking them open.
Go on.
Section 214.
this row ain't big enough for the tube
hell yeah dude
people are buying in so hard
they're not even driving to games they're on horses
yeah gone
that press god jersey on a horse
what's up
tie that shit up in the parking lot
man
let's go
a kickoff
Everybody's drunk after the game on horses.
How crazy.
Jesus.
Let's finish up here with Garrett.
It says TG Fantasy Pigskin Classic 1.
Joey and Benny.
Make sure to sign up your squads for the TG Clubhouse Pigskin Classic.
Link is in the Discord.
Live draft September 8th at 10 p.m.
Garrett.
Commissioner, unless you all want that role.
Well, Garrett, you know, sure, shit.
We don't want that role.
But we appreciate you.
We do.
That sounds awesome, man.
I had a, hey, clubhouse.
You have to, my apologies.
I had a big weekend.
It was my birthday on Friday.
We had my kids' birthday.
My son's birthday.
Party on Saturday.
We had my son's birthday, actual birthday on Sunday.
So your boy has just been running around birthday mode going going.
So I've been off the Discord for a little bit, a little bit, a little bit.
So I have to hop back on there.
But hey, hopefully it's, hopefully it's.
hopefully it's filling up.
Hopefully you got a full league ready to go.
We can really get this party started and have a have a clubhouse league.
That would be so sick.
Like you said,
we can try to figure something out with the winner or the draft or something.
But hey,
it's round one,
man.
Let's make it happen.
Winner gets an authentic 49ers helmet that I've been sleeping in for the last five years.
Appreciate that.
Gary,
thanks for running that.
I'll have to check out on Discord.
Discord, if you haven't joined it, over 330 people in that.
So much now.
Yeah, I got 330 plus members, Clubhouse growing day by day, by day by day.
And it is, oh, so fun, it is.
Let's wrap up actually here because I was just kind of a suggestion from Garrett.
Let's go to Andy.
2007, Darren McFadden.
Hey, guys, I recently came across an Instagram post of a new dad talking about how his wife was pissed at him
and thought it was the most clubhouse story of all time.
She was scrolling through his camera roll from the day their new son was born
and found a screenshot of Detroit Lions depth chart to which he said he was, quote,
talking shit to a casual while his son was being born.
I busted out laughing thinking this dude might be clubhouse and probably got hit with a Dan Dockage.
That's enough!
Silent gesture.
Oh, can't find the Instagram post anymore, but I wanted to.
I wanted to share.
This got me thinking that if I were being held captive but had access to the internet,
how often would I be checking Pacers box scores after also talking to my wife?
Appreciate the call.
Same time tomorrow with knuckleheads.
Yeah, hell of an email there, Andy.
The doc is silent that's what he hit me with back in like,
I don't know, I want to say a fall of 2016 or so.
You're like, am I in trouble?
Oh, yeah, he was pissed.
Double did you hate me?
I did see that post.
I forget who brought it up to me.
I don't think I saw it.
I saw it.
Yeah.
I think it's probably in the Discord,
honestly.
I think the Discord that was going in there for sure.
Dude, Discord sees everything first.
It's crazy how early they are.
I'm like, wow.
I see something on the internet.
I'm like,
it's already in Discord.
I'm not going to say anything about it.
I know.
If you had a,
how often I'll be checking.
Yeah.
I mean,
this is interesting because,
you know,
I was a father of two.
My son was born
right before the story.
of
college football season
in the NFL season
August 30th
my baby
so my baby
I couldn't make
my fantasy draft
because my baby
was being born
so there could have been
some situations
where like people
were getting cut or trades
were happening in the NFL
and you know my son's being born
but my daughter
my other bibbit
she was born
during the Super Bowl
Bowl.
See what's talking about all-time?
Dad distraction.
Holy shit.
Am I in a sitcom situation?
During the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl, baby.
Super Bowl, but, but, but.
Not the Super Bowl shuffle.
It's the Super Bowl.
Bibbit.
I'm in there with Chiefs 49ers in
Vegas happening.
You know,
going to overtime.
I think it's the first Super Bowl ever to go in overtime.
That's a fact check of me,
Clubhouse.
I got that going on.
Well, my wife's going to labor with our bibbit.
So, yeah, talk about being a little distracted.
But hey, you know what?
You know what I did?
I was good dad.
I was good husband.
Because shockingly enough, this is what really blew me away.
Because clubhouse dads will know and get it.
But like when your wife's going into labor, there's such a rush of,
There's like nurses coming and going everywhere.
You know, and it's seemingly just like a revolving door.
And you talk to like five or six different ones.
And it's just like you're kind of your head spinning.
But at least three of the ladies, the nurses, that night were like,
Dad, we can we can get the game on the TV.
Do you want us to get the game on the TV right now?
I'm like, no, no, I'm all good.
I know it's the Super Bowl, but like I need your efforts in your mind to be elsewhere.
Yeah.
Like, can you lock in?
Yeah.
I was like, now, if the Steelers were in, it would be a different conversation.
Have a good laugh, you know.
Yeah.
I was like, it's just these teams.
I have a football fan, yeah.
But if there's a Steelers, you're right?
But that's where you just got to plan ahead.
You know, I feel like, hey, we're looking good this year, honey.
You know, we can't be ovulated.
I don't know.
I don't care when you're ovulating.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We can't be doing all this right now.
We got to plan this out.
You can't even make of this happen where there's a potential early February
or Bay.
the boys are looking good.
Got to look ahead a little bit.
That's crazy to plan your kid around a Steelers Super Bowl.
You would, dude.
That's insane.
Yeah, so I have a picture of me and my wife,
getting ready to have our bibit.
And it's, I took a selfie with Tony Romo and Jim Nance
in the back on the screen.
because they were like doing the intro to overtime, you know, set in the scene.
Yeah.
And so it's all four of us.
It's all four of us.
Happy family.
Later that year or the, yeah, later that year, I met Jim Nance.
And I told him that story and he was like, I need to see that picture.
And it was so insane.
So I got to show him.
I showed it to him and he goes, now that is funny.
Never mind.
It was crazy.
But from Jim,
man,
you're like,
yeah,
yeah,
duh,
you know?
That is funny.
Funty.
