Discussion (0)
And welcome to this car pod.
I'm Kenan.
I'm Filippo.
I'm Doug.
We have merch.
Anyway, the big news today.
Merch.c.c.carsandbids.com if you want it.
The big news today is Filippo's leaving us.
This is Filippo's last ever podcast.
There's a lot to discuss.
We got a whole segment coming up.
Filippa wants to say some cheerful words.
Very carefully chosen.
That's coming later.
We also, every question this week is dedicated to Filippo.
That's a shame.
I'm sorry.
And so there's a lot of Felipe.
This is his last podcast ever.
He wore his giraffe shirt today to be here with us last time.
Felipe, why don't you make the sounds of a giraffe?
No, I'm good.
Thank you.
He barely knows that a giraffe exists as an animal.
I've seen a giraffe.
Okay, this is Philippo's last ever pod.
Every word he says here is really a...
It's important.
This is the end of the record.
Savor every syllable that he utters.
We're not going to hear it again.
This is episode 130.
If you want more, Felipe, just go listen to the...
They've all heard those already.
This is the end of the line.
So we start with the news,
and I'm going to defer to you for all the news stories.
I want to hear your take.
Because it'll be the last time we hear your take ever.
Can I add news stories?
As we go.
No.
All right, we start with the Bentley Torcal.
Felipe, tell us your take.
Take a Porsche Cay and EV and make it look like a Bentley.
It will be the cheapest Bentley,
is our understanding based on kind of rough pricing.
It'll be the cheapest Bentley in their lineup.
It's an EV, 375 miles in the WLTP cycle,
also call like 300-ish in the U.S. cycle.
800-something horsepower.
It's a mid-size EVS.
So this is smaller than the Bentega.
The slots under.
Notably smaller.
You're missing, obviously, you're missing the most important points.
Which is.
Number one, it's the first Bentley to wear Bentley's new logo.
Do you want to pull up Bentley's new logo?
Right, isn't it?
This is a big change.
And I think it's important to hit on it because you only wanted to talk about the specs.
Look at this, folks.
This is a completely different company.
What is this?
different? I don't know personally. It's not wings. They're like hats. It's not rounded. They're
straight. I'm not sure what's different personally, but there are, apparently there are things.
Most importantly, though, it's the first EV Bentley. It will be available as a torque and Turcall S.
The Turcall S will apparently do zero to 60 in 2.8 seconds. It has 996 pound feet of torque.
That's a lot of torque. It's not quite a thousand though, so. They couldn't quite get there.
I love this car. I think it looks great. Do you think it looks good? Because I can't, I truly can't decide.
It does look like a Cullenan, like a Hyundai, and a Bentley all had a baby.
Oh, it looks like somebody took a Cyan EV and made it look like a Bentley.
This picture doesn't quite show up, but there's a little too much Ceyn in the rear three quarters.
There's a little too much Cyan.
There's a little too back there that they weren't able to redesign in a Bentley-ish manner.
The front just feels Cullen derivative to me.
It's Bentley.
Bentley and Rolls have always been best friends.
Can you pull up the rear?
Except for those few years that Volkswagen and BMW were.
engaged in corporate warfare.
Right.
The front looks a little too soft for me.
The colonine, which I saw one today on the way here.
He types in Bentley E-V-S-E-S-V-R-E-S-V-E-E.
I could know to spell to a call.
I could know to spell to a call.
Go to like the red, any of this.
T-O-R-C-A-L.
Oh, that's a render.
That's an E-X-90.
It's a bad rendering.
Oh, I can't even spell it.
The front is a little too, so the colonel is so, like, upright and in your face.
The moment every new car is released, people talk about what it looks like.
I'm over that.
On the rear, I'm surprised by this character line around the tailgate, but...
Well, it's so square and then they just went round.
Listen, don't look at the details.
Look at the overall picture.
Bentley has given us an electric sport utility vehicle.
We may rejoice in the streets.
Yep.
I'm into it.
I like it.
$060 and $2.8.
Who cares?
I do like it for what it's worth.
And I do think there's a market for this.
Maybe not the U.S., but in Europe, there certainly is.
Yeah.
I do wonder how it'll sell here.
Because it's a Bentley, SUV, which is practical.
It's what people want, but it's an EV.
It's interesting because the, like, Rolls-Royce hasn't electrified the Cullin yet.
You have to imagine that's coming.
But they have, I mean, they do with, what's the EV?
The Spectre.
And those have sold really well, but that's a very different type of car.
I don't know.
I am proud of Bentley for skipping the trap of doing a car as the first EV that other automakers have done and it's messed up.
They have sent instead just were like, we know our buyers won an SUVs.
We're going to go an SUV.
I think it's fine.
I actually think Bentega was a little.
little bit more Bentley in its design when it first came out.
I think this is maybe a little derivative.
You said Colon in the front.
I don't know what I was thinking.
What was I thinking with that?
Colon is not made by Bentley.
But it may not be made by Bentley.
Yeah, but it's inspired by it.
It's inspired by it.
You know, Beethoven listened to other composers before he lost his hearing, and he was inspired
by the people too.
The point is, I think it's fine.
It's going to be great.
We're all very excited for it.
195 inches long, Felipe.
You can get this into your tiny garage.
Can I ask a question?
Is this the first Bentley in the last many decades to not have two separate round headlets?
Oh.
Is this like the new direction?
We're going in a different way.
But it's kind of surprising, right?
But the most recent Continental kind of smeared it a little bit.
But it still has the one and a half.
Isn't the new Continental both the Flying Spur and the Continental Gigi have more of that front of it?
I thought it still had the second headlight on the corner.
I think what it has is there, there, there's.
There's an oval and then there's a line that comes out of it.
If I remember correctly, I'm looking at a picture, and I think it's a production car.
Yeah, you're right, you're right.
We've moved to that.
Anyway, I'm into it.
Torquall.
Electric Bentley, we are doing this.
We are doing this as a real thing.
We are going electric.
Love it.
You're excited.
I'm excited.
We're all excited.
Do we know when it goes on sale?
27.
Goes on sale early next year.
Not that far away.
You thrown in a deposit?
Absolutely.
I think it's great.
I think that luxury manufacturers should tend a little more EV
because the whole point is like,
it's really not about the engine despite the W12
that no longer is this that we loved.
It's really about like seamless power delivery in silence.
Yeah.
Nothing delivers that effect on electric motors.
So as long as you don't inconvenience your clients
by them like having too short a range,
which I'm sure this won't have.
That's fine.
That's totally fine.
I'm still into a plug-in hybrid.
Yeah.
I don't understand why we can't just do plug-in hybrids.
Everybody is.
Everybody's doing that and Accentered RVs,
except for apparently bedline.
What do you mean?
Except for Bentley.
Everybody's doing EVs, EV-V-9, Ionic 9.
Everybody is at this moment in time going to E-Rev.
Every single kid at my kid's school drop-off is in an EV-9 or an Ionic 9, without exception.
That's great.
To me, it goes, Ionic 9, EV-9, Ionic 9, Super Turbo, Ionic-N.
And on the days you don't drive the Super Turbo, E-55, MGWagon.
Every single, there's, Filippa, there's something here, and I'm not trying to tell you what to build over it for.
Yeah, yeah.
But there are people here who want three-row electric vehicles.
Folks, in the comments, if you want a three-row electric vehicle, you tell us.
Yeah, let me know.
Tell Felipe's specific.
But Filippo's gone.
We can't give out his email address anymore.
Nope.
PhilippoCarsimbiz.com doesn't go anywhere anymore.
It goes to Sean.
No, we should have made that happen.
All right.
Next news story is this pixelated image.
Wild choice.
Of the WXTS.
Subaru has teased a WRX and a BRZ performance model.
Unfortunately, it's a T-S.
I say unfortunately because they've done this before to us.
Do you remember the previous BRZ-T-S?
Yeah, which is the same generation.
It was-no.
No, it was a great car, honestly.
It was, like, tuned up, a little better handling and suspension on it.
But what didn't it give us, Felipe, that we really wanted.
We wanted power.
We wanted horsepower.
Now, the new W-R-X is the greatest W-R-X ever made.
And I truly firmly believe that.
All we want is an STI.
I want to be clear.
We don't actually know if there'll be T-S.
They've said nothing about this.
It will be revealed this.
weekend at the York Fairgrounds in York,
Pennsylvania, at their big Subaru event.
So if you live in York, you got something
to do this weekend. At the last year's
Japan auto salon. They released
this photo, which says TS on the back.
This is an official photo. Incredibly, it's
not on their media website. The cool thing about
this photo, though, is there's a massive wing,
which makes it look like an old STI. Big wing.
All we want is an STI, except, of course,
Nick was just trying to get rid of his.
Nice.
Thanks. I figured out what you put in. It took me a second.
But they won't do it. This is going to
be some sort of like special handling version of the car, which is fine.
But no more power.
Kind of weak.
Probably not.
I mean, it's probably not.
Where is it going to be released?
I'm sorry.
The York Fairgrounds in York, Pennsylvania.
At the Subaru Boxer Fest is what you're not saying.
Yeah, correct.
Boxer Fest is one of the great events of our lives.
Nick Stafford, our esteemed production guy, has been to it many times in his XV cross-track.
Per Boxerfest.com, it's one of several events, including the Wicked Big Meat, Subbyfest, California.
California, the other Subty Fest.
And they're going to have a huge vendor selection with killer deals.
What car, here's a question for you.
What car you show up to Boxer Fest stops the show?
Manual swap SVX.
That thank you.
That's exactly what I was going to say.
Everybody, that's not at all.
Everybody, you think so little.
Everybody's got a manual swap to SVX.
I'm thinking B9 Tribeca limo, but I bet we could do even better than that.
That would do well.
What car, 22B?
No.
You think a 22B?
22B will be there.
You think a 22B would show stop more or less than a
B9 Tribeca limo.
B9 Tribeca limo will be off in the corner,
but we'll showstop more.
Yep.
It'll be like, you know,
when the Carbos went to Quail,
they put the,
they had the fake Enzo.
Yeah.
Put it next to the toilets.
That's where the Tribeca would be,
and it would stop a lot of people in their tracks.
SGI swap B9.
Oh, damn.
I don't think it would be more power,
actually, but it would be cooler.
I think the limo would do better.
Yeah.
What about a really nice LLB in second gen?
I would pay attention to that.
Love that.
What about a VDC?
See?
No.
Remember the sedan?
Of course.
Pull it up, please.
2004.
We probably have sold one, don't you think?
I don't know that we have.
Go to cars and bids.
By the way, we have merch at cars and bids.
All right, go to, type it Outback sedan.
Outback sedan.
Are we not?
We have.
L.B. Nullis.
Yeah, I didn't want this, Jen.
No, I know.
We somehow haven't sold any of the previous.
I'm off it.
Anyway, new W.RX.
I'm sure it'll be handling, focused, and
possibly limited edition.
It will not give us what we do.
truly crave, which is a 540 horsepower version.
Or that wagon, which we really want, that they sell in overseas markets, including Australia.
The Australians get it.
Yeah, the Australians get everything that's sold in the Asian markets.
That's right.
Folks, if you're watching from Australia, go buy one of those.
Yeah.
Okay.
Can I note, I was literally looking at Subaru's press site.
They have like a one-sentence blur about announcing this car.
They didn't realize that a press photo.
They don't want the press photo to get too big ahead of Boxer Fest.
They don't want the PR.
They don't want to upstage the crowds in York, Pennsylvania.
Let me tell you something.
A greater group of 05 legacy GT owners with tinted plate frames and cut springs has never existed than this event where they're going to show off this car.
What would it take for you to get a WRX?
Me?
Yeah.
Gun to my head?
Really?
An 04 STI?
No, that's not true.
This car?
Well, I've considered.
The current WRAX, it's a surprisingly good lease special.
Great least levels.
I thought about it, to be honest.
You know it's faster than here M5?
A lot of cars are faster than M5, but they're not my M5, and that's the distinction.
You're right.
It's better because it's got four-wheel drive.
That's right.
I really need that here in Southern California.
You can get it muddy for the handle.
That's true.
I can't do that.
I don't know.
Jump out there.
I don't know.
I love this car.
I mean, our friend Kevin had the STI wagon.
That's my favorite gen.
That's my favorite gen.
I really like that.
Super people would like you to be a little bit more specific.
To us, it was a hashback.
Yeah, it was a fine.
There's a lot.
The WRX Wagon existed.
No, an S-E-I wagon never did.
Yeah.
For two generations, there was a WX wagon.
And then it became a hatchback.
That's right.
And then they killed it entirely, except apparently in Australia.
And we like our Slaverys down here?
They're walking around, like, hitting kangaroos with their car.
I don't hate kangaroos.
You avoid them.
Make a miss.
It's also available in New Zealand.
Can you switch to a New Zealand accent?
No, I don't want to offend the cues.
It's too close.
It's too close to call.
It's like they're usually higher pitched.
Oh, wow.
Nick Murray tends to.
I have a confession.
There's stuff I know I should do, and I just don't.
Top of that list, booking a doctor's appointment.
That's because it's never just making an appointment.
It's calling around, playing a phone tag,
then finding out the doctor you want isn't even in your network.
So it slides to the next week and then the next week and then the next week after that.
That's why this episode is sponsored by Zoc Doc, and it takes the whole mess off of the table.
ZocDoc lets you search and compare high quality in network doctors.
You see actual appointment openings and click to instantly book a visit.
No phone calls, and appointments happen fast, usually within 24 to 72 hours,
and you can even score some same-day appointments.
So don't let it slide like I have.
Your health matters and taking care of yourself should not be complicated.
Ready to be seen?
Head to Zocdoc.com slash cars to get started and check that appointment off of your to do list.
That's ZOC, doc, dot com slash cars.
This is the AutoZone rescue.
We've teamed up with AutoZone and their quality parts to rescue this iconic 1987 Toyota Forerunner that's in dire need of saving.
We made it back to the studio.
The truck is running great after we did the distributor, the plugs, and the wires and the drive.
But there are some things that we still need to address.
The car wasn't exactly running hot, but the weather's been too hot lately,
so we're going to re-ramp the entire cooling system.
But before we do anything, it's time to flush the cooling system
to remove any contaminants that would damage our new parts.
For those new parts, DURLAS has it covered.
First up, water pump.
The DURLAS water pump gets a job done right because it's 100% factory tested
and it comes to the limited lifetime warranty.
Fans done, let's do the thermostat.
This thing is crusty.
It's time for a new one anyways.
This is our new radiator.
I thought I'd have to switch the brackets over,
but the Durlask radiator hasn't built in.
It's made to fit like the original equipment,
and it works well in extreme weather.
We'll also need upper and lower radiator hoses.
Durlase hasn't covered. They can move coolant without skipping a beat.
We're using new hose clamps too.
The old ones have likely lost the spring tension needed
to prevent leaks from the coolant hoses,
so let's knock it out.
Last but not least, for our cooling system revamp,
filling it with Prestone coolant.
This is going to help keep our engine under control,
keep the 22 RE happy,
and make sure that this is a burrito-getting machine for many minutes.
many years to come. All right, so the coolant level is in the funnel. So what we need to do now is start
the car, let it get up to operating temperature. We'll let that new Duralas thermosite open. Cool to go
through the system. I'll monitor it here. Earp the system. Beautiful. Stay tuned next week to see
what we tackle next on the AutoZone rescue. Okay, move on to the next next slide, please.
Yes, yes. Marriott Bonvoy. Not a sponsor. Not a sponsor. However, they are teaming up
with McLaren in the in logo creation.
It really does.
So McLaren has a new logo.
Today we woke up from a text to a text message from Nick and he sent this and he said
McLaren's new logo and I'm thinking what the hell is he talking about?
But then I saw that this had been revealed.
McLaren's new logo and it is somewhat similar.
The similarities.
Why does McLaren need a new logo?
Do you see the similarity?
The similarity is that one of the similarity is that one of the similarities.
the letters is underlined, but the same size as the other letters, but only when you factor
in the other letters. Go back to the previous logo, I'll show you. See how the O, and then go back
there, see how the C. Whoa. Do you understand the similarity now? I do want to share that the
first car to have the new logo will be the SUV that they will be for sale in 228. That is not a
joke. That is what they've said. So wait, is the New Zealand logo gone? Are we giving up on the
legend of Bruce McLaren? No, no. So apparently go to the actual McLaren,
This matches a sign that was in the shop where he built his first race car.
Where Bruce McLaren built his first race car?
Reportedly, it looked at had McLarence with a little dash underneath.
Oh, wow.
Really?
I didn't know he built that at the Bonvo, Marriott Bonvoy.
Hold in.
Is that a New Zealand?
Yeah, Auckland, right?
Let me tell you something.
I just want to say this.
Bruce McLaren is a legend.
at least in my house
because he won
the Lamont with the Ford GT40.
Really?
That's right. You did.
Now, everything that came later, I don't know.
And frankly, I don't care.
Right, the F1 and Formula One.
He was gone by then.
He died like two years after winning F1 and a crash.
He did that in 1970.
But before that happened, he beat Ferrari
at LaMau driving for Shelby.
Is there a movie about Bruce McClain?
I feel like there's a movie.
should be. Yeah, let's get a movie going, Felipe.
Let's do it. Working for Ford. They've got that one movie they already did about the Ford and the
Ferrari. Although I think that would be the same movie, more or less. The Ford and the Ferrari.
With more driving. Now, the truth of the matter is, even though technically Bruce McClare and won
Lamah, no one thinks that that happened. I'm sorry?
This is one of my favorite Lamas story of all time. I love that you got into racing. This is great.
Only for the G4G. No, I'm okay with that. There's no other car he cares about it. And the
encourage you to. A couple other, yeah, they encourage you to.
Formula One day. Yeah, yeah.
All right, 66, LaMont, I'm going to tell you the story.
You're going to love this one. Please.
66 Lamont, Ford has been battling off with Ferrari for the last few Lamont.
Enzo didn't want to sell the company. Ford went back. You know the whole story.
You saw the movie. You didn't see the movie, but you know the story.
So 66, it becomes pretty clear that Ford is going to win Lamont.
Like, with three or four hours to go, Ford is going to win. And not only are they going to win, but they got three cars still running.
You know this story more or less.
One, two, three.
So what do they do with the three cars?
So in the movie, as you went to,
only cars way far ahead.
And they decided to slow them all down so they can get the marketing picture of the three fords cross-line.
They wanted to get a picture of all three Ford's cross-line at the same time,
ignoring the fact that one of them was not on the lead lap.
But anyway.
But Ken Miles was way out there and they told them to slow the car down so they could have.
So as a result, the cars finish like this.
They're six feet apart, you know, because that was intentional.
They were 10 laps ahead of Ferrari.
It didn't matter.
So cars finish one, two.
They finish, they take the picture, 96, the whole thing.
Well, it turns out that because it's a race of time and distance.
And because Bruce McLaren's car started 80 feet back, but they finished eight feet apart.
Technically, Bruce McLaren had driven a longer distance.
And so he was technically the winner of the race, as opposed to Ken Miles driving the car.
that was actually winning,
and technically he wasn't given the win.
So even though Bruce McLaren is in the board as the winner,
there is no one who thinks that.
No one.
We follow rules in this house.
No one had heard of the rule before that.
Yeah, totally.
And they're like, oh, yeah, this is the rule all of a sudden.
Although it's called for versus Ferrari,
it really is the Ken Miles story in our minds.
Now, 68, 69 were the big years.
That's when the heritage car won.
Mm.
Uh-huh.
Camillo Pardo.
Okay.
Let's move on to the next.
I want to keep your names now.
This isn't anything.
All right.
I want to talk about this.
Oh, boy.
What BS rendering is?
It's not a rendering.
Probably.
This is the Mitsouca.
This is not a rendering.
I've seen these cobble storm before.
I know they're often.
It's Photoshop.
Cadillac with these formats.
It's Photoshop.
That's maybe different than a rendering.
This is Mitsouca, L.A.1.
It is Mitsuoka who makes great cars like the Buddy.
Pull up a picture of the Mitsuoka Ravreve 4 thing.
Let's start there.
It's called the buddy.
Okay. Mitsuoka Buddy. Do you know about this, Kenneth? Yes, I don't remember how's about Mitzh
You're close enough.
Mitsu. You okay.
Japanese is all phonetic. It's what Filippo likes about. It doesn't matter. It doesn't
matter. And then buddy.
Probably close enough.
So, Mitsuoka's this company that makes kind of, this is a Rav 4 or a Suzuki Cross, if you're
full show. Retro-inspired.
And they take it and they make it into look like an old Chevy Blazer.
And like a 70s. Cadillac SRX.
Okay, yeah. The back.
Definitely those are SRX feel like.
Yep.
Which, by the way, we're put on the SRX where?
Where is the SRX belt?
I don't.
Mexico.
You're not an SRX enthusiast?
No.
Alongside your favorite car, the 9-4X.
First-gen only.
You only like the first-10th?
Yeah.
But the 9-4X?
It was a V8 wagon.
Anyway, that's Mitsuo.
Okay, so they are now, starting in November of this year, in Japan, there will be for sale this, which is L.A.1, which is a Mazamiyata,
designed to look like a C-1 Corvette.
If you squint,
No, it kind of does, though.
They do a good job of making it look roughly.
They never try to make to actually replicare the thing.
They just try to do like their take on it.
And so like they're not, it's not intended to really be a C1,
but it's intended to have the appearance of homage.
What it would be if it was a modern day take on the C1?
Yeah, which in this case.
It looks good, to be honest.
Compared to most Mitsuka products, it actually looks decent.
Do you like this better or the buddy?
I think I'd rather have the buddy.
Yeah.
But it's the rear that doesn't work.
Look, you basically don't a Miata, but they change every panel, they claim.
Well, yeah.
Well, wait, the door, that's a Miata door.
No, but I think it's like a tiny bit tweaked.
I mean, it's, maybe it has some texture because it has a two-tone, but that's a Miata door.
But here's a clear line from AI right there.
You don't think they're building this?
Why is it on Toyo Open Countries?
Aren't those off-road tires?
By the way, they also previously made the Rock Star, which was a C-2.
Corvette, so now they move that up.
Mitsuoka Rockstar.
Pull that up.
That sounds great.
They have great names.
Look at this buddy, like IRL.
Oh, yeah, they're around.
Look at that.
IRL buddy.
That is so cool.
Man, that's what I'm hoping I see when I go to Japan someday.
Imagine?
It really looks like a Rav 4 with grafted on.
For that one, especially they left the wheels.
The pillars.
Yeah.
That one's tough.
They style out the two words.
Oh, my God.
This is amazing.
I know, right?
This one looks pretty cool.
I radically prefer the rock star to the LA1.
Yeah, agreed.
I think in the community, they agree.
This is a...
On the Mitsuoka forums.
Right.
You know, every single podcast, someone writes into us and says,
if you could import a car under 25 years, what would it be?
Mitsuoka.
Now I finally have an answer.
Mitsuoka rock star.
It was made in 2019.
Those are Alpina Z8.
They sure are.
They look like Z8 wheels.
Yep.
So now we know that the ND. Miata shares the Z8 bolt pattern.
Right.
By the way, this is on a Mitsuoka rock star.
There's a lot going on.
I love it.
I love that's four.
Five, but.
The Viata does have four.
This one does have four.
Go back.
Go back.
The Miata's a four-locked car.
Wait, no, this one has four.
That one has six.
So, definitely real.
Yeah.
You don't appreciate the, you don't appreciate the effort that went into this.
Right.
Claude, make me combine a C-1 Corvette and an N-D Miott.
Do you, let me ask you this, Kenan, do you think that once this, once Claude did
that and they saw what it looked like, they were like, yeah, this looks good. Let's say we're going to make it.
And then now they're going to make it actually, because they've announced it.
I think Claude made it and then said, are you sure? Go back to the one. It looks good. I'm into it.
I like the rock star. Go back to the one with the Z8 wheels. I'm pretty sure that's vaporware
picture too, but at least that's cool. You think that's a vaporware picture? I kind of think so.
It's hard to tell the resolution is quite poor. It definitely can't be the same wheels because,
yeah, you're right about this. Look at this. This thing looks pretty cool. You know what this reminds me is
the Marcos Manterey.
Pull up the Marcos
Mantoray.
By the way,
Toyo Open Country H-Ts are
all seasons.
Not all Terranes.
Yeah, so this...
Doesn't this kind of look
like the Marcos Manoray?
You know what?
And now that I'm looking at this,
I kind of want a Marcos Manoray.
Same.
Four legs.
That one.
That one looks like all the panels
are not quite screwed in properly,
but this one...
I think that's reality.
Yeah, oh, it's definitely reality.
Oh, by the way, it's a Montara,
not the Mantrae.
What?
No, it says
Mantrae
Wikipedia calls them
Tara
I think that's wrong
Oh no no
I'm so sorry
There were two generations
The next generation
was a Manta ray
They just added a letter
The Martara
Let's call it the Manta ray
And then the next one
It was plural Manta rays
And then the company
It's
Promptly
Incredible
All right
Should we go back to the news
That man this is off the rails
What's on
What Power Train is in a Marcos
Manor?
Oh it's the old
rover V8 that was in Formula 1. Perfect.
You could choose between the 3.9 or the 4.6.
Oh, my God.
Obviously, we only talk about the 4.6.
In the Mantara community, the 3-9 was considered better.
But once it was redesigned,
and the car lost some purity,
then everybody became a manoray,
then everybody preferred the larger force.
That's what it is. Thank you for that correction.
It gained 40 horsepower from 190 to 230.
Hey, it's more than the...
It's more than the Mitzville-Calais.
Barely.
Doesn't them yet to have 201?
Well, but don't you assume, no, remember there's a big engine and a small engine in some markets, and most markets are now.
155 and 181 for the ND2.
And we know that's going to be a 155.
Although they could probably get 181 through those six lug rear wheels.
All right, let's keep moving forward.
Three of the luxur night to each other.
This is the biggest news of the week.
The 2027 Nissan Rogue hybrid, excuse me, has been revealed.
You'll see these probably everywhere.
for one year only for 2026, the Nissan Rogue hybrid is actually the Mitsubishi Outlander.
Yep.
Re-badged.
Yeah.
The Mitsubishi Outlander, of course, is a re-bodied rogue.
Yeah.
Right.
But now the hybrid will go on sale later this year for 27.
It's redesigned and it's fundamentally an extended range EV.
The motor powers charges a battery, the battery power is.
Yeah, I'm familiar with that.
They, Nissan calls this e-power from their memory serves, and they've been selling e-power cars in Japan and a year for a while.
But now it's coming to the U.S.
as a redesigned rogue with a series hybrid.
And it's big news because this segment is unbelievably strong.
Yeah, yeah.
The CRV hybrid, the RAV hybrid, the RAV-4 hybrid are both...
All RAV-4s are hybrid.
You're right, they are now.
Yep.
Damn.
Some are plug-in.
But those cars are unbelievably...
Demand is unbelievably strong.
There's an enormous waiting list for these cars.
In some...
I mean, it's becoming less of a case.
But still, this is of all the segments,
some of which are kind of slow.
The car industry is a little slow in general right now.
The hybrid compact SUV is not.
Kia also has a competitor as just Hyundai.
Ford does not.
No, the escape hybrid's gone, I believe, for 26.
Where are you, Felipe?
You got some work to do.
Interestingly, it does not a plug-in, by the way,
it is just a regular hybrid.
We can't plug it in.
The Rav-4 can get away with plug-in stuff
because rich people buy Rav-4s.
Ain't no rich people buying this.
It's people who want 38 miles per gallon.
And you know what?
They don't get it.
Yep.
Who in your life drives a Nissan movie?
I assume you're from Ohio.
I assume there's somebody's got to.
No.
Really?
Gen.
I can't think of anybody in my life who drives in New Zealand.
What are your sister's driving?
The Subaru's.
Yeah, yeah.
One lives in New York, so she doesn't need a.
Do I even have a Forrester hybrid?
No.
Nobody has a Forrester hybrid.
They have outbacks.
Yeah, Carlin has an outback.
New outback?
No, because it's...
But you're supposed to connect those to help her choose the car.
Well, you know what?
I should have done that this week because you have nothing to do.
I'll do that after there.
Now I got stuff to do.
It is exciting.
Nissan's Rogue is a competitive automobile.
Just helped my sister-in-law by.
use one.
But it needed a
redesign, needed a hybrid version
for sale in the U.S.
And now they will have one starting later this year.
And I'll tell you something, it's going to sell better than the
Marcos Manoray.
Someone does the drive of Nissan
in my life.
Corey with the R34 GTR.
That's right.
He's got a Nissan Rogue?
No.
The only person who drives a Nissan of TV.
Oh, any Nissan.
Yeah.
You know, I've had three Nissan.
Have you?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I had an R32 Skyline.
Yeah.
I had a cube.
The Cube.
And I had an S cargo.
By the way, your buddy,
Ryan Lopez drives.
It's right there.
Right around the corner.
Oh, yeah, that's true.
But you don't drive it.
I've seen it move twice
in the time that you've lived here.
So driving it's a little.
One time I saw him on the freeway in it,
that thing looks uncomfortable.
Talk about a car you get his way from.
It's quickly possible.
Ryan, I'm sorry.
Because that car in my mind is just a street drift car.
I don't think of it as anything else.
Sorry, Ryan.
Give a sorry.
You don't have to apologize to Ryan Lopez.
That's true.
He and his drift car are one,
and they do not need your validation
or your approval.
All right.
Thankfully he has neither.
Yeah, thankfully.
Here's something that never made sense to me about regular car insurance.
Every year on paper, your car is worth a little less than it was the year before,
which is fine for a 2019 crossover.
But it is completely disconnected from reality for anything interesting.
The enthusiast car market is climbing fast,
which is why the standard coverage doesn't cut it for the cars that we love.
That's the thing about Haggerty.
With guaranteed value, you set the value of your vehicle up front.
It won't depreciate every year like standard auto insurance.
It might even go up.
And if your car is totaled, that's what you're paid.
Same idea on the repair side.
Claims are handled by people who speak car, not call center scripts.
And repairs are handled with the same care, precision, and respect you have for your vehicle.
You've probably already run into them here too.
Cars and Bids is driven by Haggerty.
And there's a Haggerty widget right on the listing.
So you can get a quote on your car before you even win it.
Visit Haggerty.com and get insurance for drivers.
This episode is brought to you by Tire rack.
Tires are the only part of your car that actually touches the road.
And most people end up buying whatever the shop has sitting there in the back that day.
Tire rack is how it should work.
While I'm browsing for my BMW E-39M-5, I put in the year, the make, and the model,
and I get every tire that actually fits the car.
Not a generic list.
Then I filter by what I actually care about.
Traction, tread life, comfort, noise, price.
There are unbiased consumer reviews, full specs,
and tire rack's own tire test results
sitting right there next to each one.
Two years of road hazard production comes free with your purchase.
Nails, potholes, broken glass, all covered.
Shipping's free and fast next day to most of the country.
Ship them to an installer, ship them to your house,
and in some errors, they'll come out and do it for you.
Go to tire rack.com to shop tires.
That's tire rack.com slash Doug Demiro, D-E-M-U-R-O, to find what's right for you.
All right, next news story, please.
Ah, yes, so this is the rumor.
So the Aston Martin Valhalla, a supercar we know and like you drove one recently.
There's allegedly a spider version that's coming up in November.
Now, this was published that this was coming out,
and then the story was quickly redacted,
so I don't think it was supposed to be that.
Seems likely.
Proportedly, they're going to build 999 of these worldwide.
The company hasn't confirmed that or anything,
but it's going to be powered by the same AMG, twin turbo, you know, V8.
But of course, it makes sense that one is coming.
I am surprised that it's still a million-dollar car.
But I'm surprised, like, based on the look that it's not more.
It just seems more extreme to me.
When I see it, I assume it's a 2.5-9-9-00.
I love it.
I love driving it.
I have a suspicion that the production number
probably a total for the coop and the convertible, is my guess.
But we'll see.
Nothing is confirmed.
Nothing is.
Anything could happen.
Target top, right?
It's not a article that we have.
Alleged that's going to have a removable hard top.
Oh, that's annoying.
That's not a weird thing.
That's not annoying.
It converts from hard top.
Oh, I'm so sorry that every C.A. Corvette is a convertible.
Yeah.
Every corvette.
Except for the fixture of CFA.
People who buy this are going to want to push a button and have a...
Where do you think it'd go?
488.
Do you think the design?
the spot for the target to go?
I think it goes in your garage.
I think it can fit in the trunk, assuming you have nothing else in there, and so you just leave it in a garage.
There is no truck.
This car doesn't have any storage?
None at all.
No.
Well, that's great.
But, man, I drove one of these, and it was wonderful.
A regular coupe, a coupé, as they would say in the UK.
Do you remember when Mercedes-Benz for the R-129 had that top storage solution where you could hook up a lift to your garage,
ceiling.
Yes.
Do you remember this?
Pull up a picture of this.
Does that have a stand?
Yeah, but the stand,
everybody's got a stand.
R-129 ceiling roof lift system.
Yep.
There it is.
That's it right there.
My friend Jeff, his dad had an R-120 and had this in the ground.
This says DIY, but this is an act.
I think this is the actual hardtop hoist.
There were OEs.
You could go and buy it.
It's still here in the SL shop parts store.
For 224 pounds.
The point was you would drive in.
There it is. Unbelievable.
You would drive in, and then because the hard top could not be removed with a, look at this guy.
He's just doing it.
He's got an electric situation, but he's got a late R-129.
He's rich.
He's very rich.
And then the hardtop was hard to remove.
So there was a winch and a hoist, and you would pull in, and then you'd...
Yeah.
Then you could do it one person, and then it would go up.
And do you think that's what they'll do for Valhalla?
Yeah.
Are there any cars currently for sale with the removable hardtop?
from the factory?
Yeah, the C8 Corvette.
That's Targa.
Well, what do you mean?
I didn't have the hard top.
I really, no, no, sorry, sorry, I framed that poorly.
That are a convertible that on top of the convertible top also have a removable hard top.
So basically you're asking, are there any soft top convertibles available?
That have a hard top available.
Yeah.
Because that was common enough.
Yeah.
The SEL was not the only car that had a factory back.
No, 9-11s did for a long time.
I don't think they still do.
I don't think so.
I don't think so.
Part because tops have gone good and so you don't need one.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah, BMWs did.
There were a lot of BMW.
Remember E36?
Pull up an E36 cab with a removable hard top.
You remember those?
Oh, yeah.
I think they look kind of cool.
They do.
But then they went to the power hard top,
and so it didn't make any sense anymore.
Right, and it became incredibly unreliable.
There it is.
There it is.
S-2000 had it up until the very end,
so that was through 09 at least.
Portia had it longer than that, I think.
996, maybe they did it for 997-2.
I remember 9-9-6 for sure.
I don't remember.
I don't remember.
That was like a cool.
clearly a factory one.
There's aftermarket supplies for this, but...
Remember Bauer?
Of course.
With all the...
Type in Bower E-36.
You know, this is a car Filippo should own.
Bauer...
Type in Bauer E-36 sedan.
You know, if he's going to own...
This is a car that Filippo should own.
Yes.
Look at that.
It is.
That is a car that Filippo should own.
Because, like, Filippo, like, you work for this company, and, like, we do weird
car stuff, and now you're leaving.
Don't you think as a send-off you should have a weird car?
I would love one of you.
But obviously, it's not that expensive to purchase.
This one has hubcaps.
I've put a love an E36 on HUBCAPS.
Nothing like doing a full convertible conversion for an E36
and doing it on the 316I with cloth seats and hubcaps.
I've always thought that the best-looking E-36s, like, basis models.
Maybe.
I also have like the base model of E-36, not told in the U.S.
316I or whatever was the best-looking.
Look at this.
I want it.
Look at this.
Profile.
It's bizarre.
Yes.
This could be you.
What's the guys taking off?
There's a sunroof in the over the front seat.
If you find me one, I will consider it.
Folks, if you have a Bauer E-36 sedan, which are all legal to import.
Did they do the compact as well?
BMW did that O-E.
Okay.
That was an O-E-E-E-R-E-E-Rowion.
If you have an E-36 Bauer sedan, we are not interested in E-30.
We are not interested in anything else, an E-21.
We only want an E-36 sedan.
You send Sean a message.
S-E-A-N at CarsBids.com.
Philippa will buy it from you.
He will pay full market retail.
It must be within about 50 miles in my home.
And also, there are no comps, and so what he wants to pay is what a regular E36 cost, plus maybe
$500 for your trouble.
You know, if you're going to Detroit a lot, maybe you keep a car there in this in your 36th hour.
So if you live in the Detroit metro area or San Diego, let Felipe own.
I keep a car here in Detroit.
Oh yeah, what is it?
Oh, it's a convertible conversion, B, 30-year-old BF?
It's a very rare special thing.
W.
With that Tano cover?
Like, because you just want to keep it down permanently.
Yeah, you got to have to have the
You've got to have it look its best.
You've got to come from this up.
The fact that it's only over the rear seats is a stunning decision.
Yeah, well, because otherwise it would be too big.
I have to include some sort of structural there.
But in the front, we saw a picture earlier.
We're in the front sense.
There's a sunroof that can be that one.
Yeah, the profile picture.
Yep.
This is good stuff.
Can somebody do that with a current three series?
No.
Is there any more news?
I hope not, because we have a lot of Felipeo to cover.
There's Bentley's for Poland.
Okay, that's a new story.
That's all you need to know about.
Copernicus is involved next story.
I agree.
Look it up.
It's a bizarre story.
But yes, Bentley is making three cars to honor Copernicus because Bentley of Warsaw
requested it.
Yep.
Will he is honoring Copernicus, folks.
So if you want unique cars and you live in a weird city that happens to have some
scientists related to it, you two can request them from that.
What about Alessandro Volta?
Sure.
This is Felipe's dream.
What would that addition be like?
It would be electric.
There you go.
They're going to do an Alessandro Volta version of the Torcal
and they'll sell it in Milan.
Can I tell you the weird color names for this?
So they don't one for the earth, one for the sun and one for the moon, right?
Yeah.
The colors are manuka orange, whatever the hell that means.
The nebula blue for Earth.
And then for the moon, they got really lazy with the name.
Moonstone.
Moonstone.
That's what they call it.
To me, they just look like Bentley's in different colors.
All right, move on to the next one, please.
Folks, these aren't available, by the way.
They're only available in Warsaw.
And for one client, I'm doubt.
If you're listening in this pod in Warsaw, you might have a chance, but if you're not, if you're in Krakow, for example, it's not happening for you.
Okay, what's this? We got a manual transmission lever.
Yeah, apparently Porsche has developed similar to Ferrari and an electric manual transmission.
So it's automatic, but with manual shifting, as you would expect that they do once that barrier breached, everybody else will do it.
Like for our Porsche fans, irate that this is.
No, nobody cares.
It's not real yet.
I'm so pumped.
I'm, I am fine with the Ferrari thing.
Everybody's like, it's not a real bad role.
It's like, I understand.
The number of people who have told me that is insane.
It's like, baby girl, the other option is you put it in D.
Right, right.
And the crux of it is that it has to feel good.
It has to feel like a manual.
You know this will because it's Porsche.
It will be excellent.
The Ferrari, nobody's driven it yet.
Maybe.
I'll bet it feels pretty good.
Yeah.
They wouldn't make it if it was bad.
I'd like to think.
Then again, they do.
Then again, they did make the Mondiolol.
Valleo.
They thought that was a good idea.
The Valleo Mondiol's.
Yep.
Shout out to the Valle Mondiol owner club.
It's eight people.
All of them I rate.
I think this is interesting because then in theory,
that means they probably put it in any automatic or hybrid,
any of the car they make.
You mean the Kyan?
No, I doubt they would do that.
They could bring that back.
I mean, they sell well, there's a market.
If it is a manualized PDK, you do have to wonder,
are we talking swaps?
I mean,
Yeah, I would think so.
Fundamentally, so much of your experience driving a modern automobile is fake.
In that, like, electric power steering, it's sending inputs.
It has a bunch of computers to tell you how much feedback to it.
Which feedback of people have accepted?
Transmission breaks, a lot of them in modern cars are that.
I don't accept any of this.
I drove here today in a Genesis GV60 magma.
The car was molten with...
The car was molten with truth.
Okay.
There was no...
Is that what a caterpillar?
Nothing fake, what, molten with truth?
No, no, just without molten.
Is that what the...
No, it's lava orange.
It's called magma orange.
And let me tell you something.
There is no fakeness about that.
Nope.
Okay.
That wing is real.
It has horns.
It has horns.
I told my kids it has horns.
I don't have horns.
Yeah, you press the middle of the steering wheel and horn.
Oh, don't know.
Make a draft sound.
What do you mean?
Look at this wing.
It's got...
Do you tell me those are?
horns. Oh man, those are horns. There's fucking horns on the swing. That is a car with horns.
I love this, by the way. Yeah. I was so excited when Madwin was announced. Do you want one?
No, but I think it's cool. I told Flipo off camera, there's only, for the first model year,
they're only doing 75 of these, and they're only selling it in California, New York, and
New Jersey. They know their market. Yep. Yeah. New Jersey.
There's some guy on Reddit who's bragging about how he got one. Really? Located, New Jersey.
Yeah, that makes sense.
One of one of three options.
Yeah, there's probably four dealers.
They probably decided.
It wasn't worth limiting it to New York Street.
Do you agree that you will never see one of these on the street?
I saw it on the street yesterday.
Mine.
Have you ever seen an Ionic 5-N?
Once.
Once, same.
I don't know if I ever have.
It's a shame.
Yeah, it's a shame.
The visual notice, because the horns.
Okay, and you'll be in Hoboken.
So anyway, Porsche is doing a manualized.
Yeah.
for one of four other metros.
Hey, yo, big bong, it's the GV60.
Okay.
Porsche is doing manualized PDK,
and that'll be an interesting thing
if it develops.
The interesting part about this to me is that
Porsche makes actual manuals.
Because Ferrari, it was a big deal because they don't.
I wonder if it's in response to that
that they felt the need to just have this patent
so that's ready.
Keep in mind, if you're seeing the patent,
the patent would likely filed a substantial amount of time ago.
Sure.
The countries take a while.
Their patent officers take a while to process them and publicize them.
It likely was filed a while ago.
I'm not surprised that everybody is realizing, hey, we have hybrids.
Are the manuals that we have aren't capable of putting up with this power or these power trains?
Like BMW said a year ago, they could only go up to 444 horsepower with their manuals.
You're developing the next generation.
Of course, it's going to be something that you can use in all your vehicles.
I mean, the fear is that they're going to replace.
That's the fear.
That's not a kind of fear.
It'll happen.
That's not.
Why be scared of progress?
Kenan and I have that fear.
Now, the way that it could be beneficial
is if they're able to make this
to some sort of electrified drive train
that they're not able to do
with the standard, with a regular manual transit.
GTS-T hybrid will have this at some point.
Ferrari can do it and Porsche can do it,
then the C-8 Corvette can do it, am I right?
Would you drive a manual C-8?
I would...
Yes.
Of course.
Fordman over here talking Chevy.
I would drive all vehicles.
I drive all vehicles.
I drive them all.
I got no problem with any of them.
I'm taking that car home, right?
Okay.
No.
It's time for the talk car segment.
Thank God.
There's a lot to cover in the car swing.
I want to start with this picture.
Hey, that's me.
I'd rather be driving a four.
This is Doug's career GT with me kneeling next to it.
And it's a bumper sticker that says,
I'd rather be driving a four GT and me not knowing what to do about that.
Thumbs up, man.
Two thumbs up.
All right, go back.
The actual talk cars segment, we got a lot to discuss today.
Felipe, why don't you start?
Sure.
All right.
We announced last week on this podcast that this will be my last.
podcast.
Wow.
Cards and Bids,
I'm taking a job at Ford,
which is very exciting.
He's taking a job at Ford.
Yeah.
We'll be a director of EV strategy
kind of helping plan out
what Ford invests in,
et cetera,
which I'm really excited about.
There have been a ton of
really sweet kind comments
and DMs and the messages.
I want to,
I think that sometimes people
watch this podcast
and see my small role
in our content,
or do they watch your great reviews
or Kenneth's awesome videos
and they don't realize
that there's so much that goes on
behind the scenes of cards and bits.
And so I want to take a second
to appreciate that
everybody else on the Cars and Bits team because making this content requires people like Sean and Nick,
but also making the rest of the auction site and having that work and being the place that offers
the singularly best support if you want to sell your car, if you want to buy a car, it's like a huge
undertaking. And so there's so much more that goes on behind what people see on camera. And I think
one of the themes that I saw across the comments and Reddit threads and whatnot was kind of this
like I think people don't realize how many awesome team members, family members, what would you like to say?
Team members is what you're going to go with.
That are just involved in making cars and bits happen.
They're such an exceptional team that I'm incredibly proud of.
I'm incredibly proud of where we've got.
You know, Filippo, that's all great.
And so I wanted to shout out of everybody else.
Why are you leaving?
Yeah, that's a fair question.
For anybody that's worked in a startup, I think, knows that six years at any startup is a really long time.
And the team is in a phenomenal place and doesn't need me anymore.
It's truly a part of that.
What do you mean we don't need you anymore?
That they're smarter and better people out there.
You think that Dan and Matt Robinson don't need you?
I think that they're desperate for you.
They're like a turtle that's tipped over and is like, you know this.
They don't need me in the least.
I truly think that after six years, the company's in the best position it's ever been in.
Every single KPI that we have, all of our financials prove that out.
And the team is just, as progressed to a point where I am not, I'm not needed.
Can I ask you a question?
I'm redundant.
If I get to a point where I'm redundant, but people are still paying me the big bucks.
What I would do.
Yeah, yeah, you keep the job.
I would just chill.
It's just time.
It's time to move on to something different.
Why do you seek challenge?
When you could seek calm.
Never sought calm.
I know.
I've been off work since last Thursday.
I'm unemployed currently.
And for three more days.
And I've had the most productive, like, personal life week in the years.
It's delightful.
So if it had been two weeks.
Oh, I would have been miserable the second week.
You wouldn't play roller coaster tycoon?
I would play multiplayer roller coaster tycoon with you.
Wait, there's multiplayer.
I don't know, but we would figure it out.
Maybe it would just be the two of us are gaming next to each other.
I would do that.
Bragging about.
I would get bored about half an hour in.
Then we'd throw on a different game.
And then we go clean.
Organize a closet.
I don't know.
I truly think that it's a good time to step away from Garzumman's because the team is in such a exceptional spot.
You don't.
What if I threw you more cash?
Did anybody ever make that offer to you?
Did Dan offer you more cash?
I want more cash.
That's not the very bad.
What about Matt Robinson?
What about Ryan Lopez?
Yeah, Ryan Lopez personally offered me cash.
No, he needs cash.
Ryan Lopez is sitting over here trying to replace his Model 3,
and Dan's just throwing cash that you left and right?
Oh, my God.
That's not what happened.
But regardless, I think when I told Dan are phenomenal CEO that I was considering this other opportunities,
like, no, I get it.
Because it's an opportunity that makes sense.
I think it's readily abundant to people that know me,
that I'm incredibly passionate about the car industry,
that six years at a startup, of course,
and it's a caliber is a long time.
And I think I've convinced him
that the company is in better position.
Do you think that there was any part of Dan
when you told them that you were leaving
that was like, yes.
Yeah, probably.
There should be.
God knows.
Thank God.
God.
I don't think anybody feels out of here.
It's been an incredible six years.
And working with this team
and all the team members that we have.
It's a team, really.
It's truly a joy.
Honestly, you know what it's like?
It's like the 49ers.
Do we get our own license plate, too?
We're teams.
We're both teams.
Do we get at our own license plate?
They have Steve Young or had them recently.
We have Felipe.
Yeah, have we done it anymore.
I just want to say that, like, Cars and Bits is an incredible place that has had tremendous success.
And has seen really, really strong growth and just has these incredible, like, background team that day in and day out is providing exceptional service, building our business, building our business.
really great product, creating great content that I think people that are watching the content
or the podcast only see a tiny sliver of, but I want to really shout out everybody else.
I also think it's what I saw so many comments about it.
I can't believe Ford's so much a more legit company than cars and bids.
I mean, we started this at zero.
Yeah.
Let me tell you something.
You know what companies look for is people, especially in your new role where they're
essentially trying to not start at zero, but trying to grow something from small to big.
they look for people who have success
growing something from small to big.
And it does turn out.
We started this at zero.
This company is a lot more than zero now.
That is a very difficult thing to do.
Yeah.
And a lot of 14-year-olds on the internet
don't understand that.
I'm serious.
But Felipe does.
And our team, all of them.
Look, man, you don't want to call
people that work with your family.
That goes on a bad road.
So why don't we call them what they are?
Let's call them employees.
You know, Ken and I are sick of this PC crap.
All right.
Our employees that show up to work only because they get paid are phenomenal.
You think they wouldn't?
You think if we stopped paying next effort, he'd be anything else?
No, no, he's unemployed and he's here currently.
That's right.
Wait, why am I not?
What did I do?
You take that up with Sean.
Email him at Sean at Carson.
That's right.
Yeah.
I'm incredibly proud of what the team has built.
I'm incredibly proud of my role in making that happen.
Yeah.
It's a natural good time.
Let me tell you something.
Felipe's role and the team's role in getting from Zosos.
to this point is legit.
This company is killing it.
We are absolutely in a better position.
We've ever been ever.
A lot of it is because of you and because of your contributions over the years.
And it's no joke.
And I'm not at all surprised that you would be an attractive candidate for a lot of different jobs.
Yeah.
And I've been worried for about two years.
Wow.
And...
You shouldn't have been.
Like a year ago, you came to me...
I'm thinking about...
We don't have to talk about that.
Uh, some things are going to stay off the record.
Is that fly I?
Doesn't matter now.
No, it doesn't matter.
Now you're making a pickup truck.
Anytime you're at a startup, you spend years and years and years being incredibly committed.
And then eventually sometimes something pulls you away.
And that is how I would describe it.
I think that this role that I came across is one that's exceptionally exciting for me
and very much pulled me away from what I consider.
I do think.
a highlight of my career in life,
because the past six years really have been at cars and bits.
Totally.
That's beautiful.
Thank you.
Thank you.
That's the most emotional thing I've ever seen this thing.
Wow, really?
I am curious.
It's going to be such a different role.
I know.
You're going to be working for a company of 150,000 employees.
Like, it's going to be a really different situation.
I started using Microsoft Teams.
Microsoft Teams.
Like, you're going to be like really working for like a big boy.
Big boy.
After having spent your whole career at Little Boys.
Yeah.
So true.
And that'll be interesting.
It'll be a shift.
He's just joined a bigger team.
That's all.
He's going from Little League of the major leagues.
There's a lot of team members now.
Yeah.
But I will very much miss being on this podcast and working with these phenomenal 36 people that we employ and pay every two weeks.
Twice a month, technically.
I will miss that very, very much.
But it's been an incredibly special six years.
May I say something?
Yeah, of course.
I have to say from genuinely, it was always a pleasure to work.
with you. Like, it was so much fun to be able to work with your friends.
Yeah. And, like, that was something really special. I think we'll all look back on
very well. I think so do. I mean, we're both still here despite not working for the company.
So true. But I, nonetheless, I'm like, it was, it was a tremendous pleasure to work with you from. Now,
you never did figure out when you were a writer of mine how to get auto check. You never figured
how to type that correctly. I find auto check vehicle history report, which is the correct one
was at the time. It doesn't matter. I made some errors here in the next. But there was, I was, I
remember over years, I would come down here to this garage, which we've had for four years probably, right? Something like that. Three? And I'd come down here and you'd be here and you'd be here and Sean would be here. A couple of years where we all overlapped. And it was pretty cool to all be working in the same place. All of your friends just like chatting. You know, when I worked in an office, they became your friends, but these were like, we were all friends first. And now Kenan's off doing his own thing. Filippo's off working for the man.
man.
Sean is still here, but
God, for Sean.
You gotta wonder.
Thank heavens for the Sean.
How much more can he take?
How many more emails can he accept?
Yeah.
Let's find out.
Sean at Carth Street.
But I want to put it in ways
that you will understand.
Or does you understand?
Oh, man.
So thank you for adding
significant shareholder value.
I wish you the best of luck
in future ventures.
My sincere pleasure.
That's so true.
Oh, you guarantee you.
Got those exact words said to people
when he finally.
Shout out to Nate Gerdis,
who's one of our editors who got me a mug that says...
Which I really appreciate.
I can't believe you're leaving.
Now, the good news is you're not leaving our lives.
I would actually be a lot more serious about this
and a lot more sad and in despair if you were leaving our lives.
Philippe and I have dinner multiple times a week.
We see each other on the weekends.
Same with Kennan.
Kenan comes to all the same meals.
We all do this.
And so when he left and when you left,
it's actually nothing really changed a lot much.
Yeah.
I will.
What would make me really does.
Really sad as if you ever had to leave.
Yeah.
Either of you, this town.
Yeah.
I will really miss having these conversations and engaging with their audience and also working with the team that's quite exceptional.
And also, like, I, till last week, regularly messaged our buyers and sellers and, like, provided support and applied to a lot of emails.
And I will be sad to be kind of removed from this world.
Well.
But life changes.
Life.
There are seasons in life for everything.
And you have a great new job.
Yeah.
And you deserve to take.
take the success from this job that you've had and that we've had and parlay it into something
also great. And hopefully they'll have a management lease macchi soon. Well, that's part of the,
some of the questions are about that. Uh, we, should we move on to the questions and skip
the market report this week? We have a lot of Felipe. Last week I asked everybody to send in
Felipe related questions. Wait, wait, I want to see the next photo. Pause. Yeah. Pause. Yeah.
Kenan, you see this? This is, this is John Cena. He was spotted in,
Seattle-ish, filling up gas in a G-Wagon cabriolet.
Twice, Brown.
Do you think he watches what you do and thinks?
Because he had a 4GT as well.
Oh.
He thinks, you know, Doug, this guy knows.
Was he the buyer of your G-wagon?
Now, my G-Wagon went to the opposite corner of the country and is not white.
But how about the fact that John Sina's got a convertible G-wagon?
Now, why is he in Seattle filling it up at an ARCO?
We may never know.
What are those?
Yeah, I mean, the Arco is one of the...
It's not a chance.
There was an aftermarket taillight body kit you could get.
People have him on the four doors, too.
It's heinous.
Does he live in Washington?
I thought he live in Florida.
He's got wheels on it, too.
But regardless, John Cena's out here in a convertible G-wagon like every great person.
Does that make you sad that you sold your?
No.
Mine is on a truck to Florida right now and I couldn't be happier.
By the way, when this video goes up, whatever this is, podcast.
Friday.
My 993 Twin Turbo will have been sold.
Whoa.
Does that make you see?
sad? It kind of does because I'm staring at it right now, and I do like your car a lot.
Do you have any interest in buying it with all your big Ford money? At 267, I'm out. I did bid.
You may have noticed a couple of times. I was serious about those bids up to $71,000. 71 is what you
were willing to pay?
7993, but yeah. Nice. I would have rounded. Solid. Yep. Now, the Ford GT is next. You know,
it's funny because on this podcast, this podcast is the most popular automotive podcast by a wide margin.
wide.
And on this podcast, we've been talking about how I'm selling this car.
And when I posted it for sale, a couple of friends, oh, I can't believe you're selling it.
Suddenly, I know who doesn't listen to the podcast.
That's right.
That's right.
Yep.
It's a telltale, for sure.
And it's true in the comments, too.
People are like, you're selling this already?
I can't believe it.
It's like, hey, we've been talking about this for months on the pod.
I was trying to ease you into it.
But now I know that some of my friends don't listen to the podcast.
And obviously, they are no longer friends.
Of course not.
Former friends.
Former friends.
Philippo, are you going to still listen to this podcast?
I think I have to start listening to the podcast.
Are you going to listen to it after you depart?
I think I will have to.
Really? Yeah.
No way.
Unless you commit to every Wednesday when we have dinner summarizing what was said.
Summarizing the podcast.
That would accept that.
By the time you're watching wherever you are, this will have ended and we'll know where the final result is.
I am going to be sad to miss his car.
I have to admit.
Wow.
That for the very first time, Winston, selling a car in years.
I mean, 10, 15 years.
I'm sitting, I'm having a little bit of sellers removed.
Really? Really? Already. Even talking, you have a super now?
Love the Supra. But I do wonder if I should have kept this also.
Do you think the pictures are convincing you a little bit?
No, it's not the pictures. It's just like, this car is great.
It is such a good car. It's just amazing to drive. It's amazing to look at.
It's so much fun. I will say that the current high bid, $267,000 reminds me that it is time to sell it.
because, like, this was a kid transport car.
It's silly to allocate that kind of money to that.
Like, it's just silly.
But I need to be more in the range of where the Supra is.
But, and honestly, even less than that.
But this is just too much money for that purpose.
But it's a cool car.
It drives so well.
I'm never going to have it.
I'm never going to find another, like, Arena Red driver, you know?
How many miles do you have?
65,000?
62, 63, something like that.
You're not interested in this, Kenner?
You don't want to pop it?
Look, I'm going to get there eventually, and then that'll be that.
Yeah, that'll be that.
at some point.
It'll be the end, though.
Target, though.
I don't want to target.
He's got the target space.
I have a different type of contract.
Can you pull up the super turbo that we have left right now?
Oh, my God.
This is the other mistake.
How annoying.
One of the problems when you, when you, I latch on to a car, and then you were like, I need to have it now, is that you're not patient.
And then this car is literally exactly what I wanted.
It is my car to a T except it has twice the miles.
Yeah.
And so obviously it's going to suffer less money.
And given that I'm using it to chubber around.
kids who are literally eating Doritos in it.
It would have been better to buy
one with twice the miles.
But unfortunately, it's not what I did.
Can't you just buy this one and sell the one you have?
Yeah, but I mean, at this point,
the ship is a lot of work.
And I put in, selling these cars
is already buying cars, selling cars,
has already been so much work. When I left the summer,
I had a 22 point list of stuff
I had to do. Title this car, ship this car.
And I'm down, I have only three
left. Wow.
22 point list. Well done. It's all done.
That's why I do what I do.
do. Yeah. That's why I handle this
so other people don't have to. I just like, it's just so much
that goes into it. I know. But Cars and Bids
makes it easy. That's right. Check out our
merch store. Merch.c.c.c.c.c.c.
You're going to do this right up until the end.
Why wouldn't I? How beautiful.
Shout out, by the way, to Eric Park, who is
responsible for our merch store. Can I ask you a question?
I'm just start naming.
They start out team members. Can I ask you?
I'm going to get one. Yeah, they got one.
Grant.
Sure, yeah. Grant Whitlock love them.
That the audience didn't ask, but I'm curious about?
Yeah. You still got some cash in
business? I still have
Oh my God, he's going to promote us forever.
Forever. Forever. He's an investor.
He's still got a reason to...
I want to be clear, besides any financial
incentive, I care a lot about
this business. I have invested a lot.
Do you think you care more than I do? Yes.
Oh, wow. I 100%. No, no doubt.
What about Dan?
I... Dan Harmon, who's exceptional, who's our CEO.
We got to have him on this thing.
Yeah. I think cares a lot about this business. And Dan
wants to win and will win because we're prime to, and he's a phenomenal leader, I care more, yeah.
I've invested a lot of my time and energy over the last six plus years, supported the best of
trying to do my best buy it. I have a lot of confidence in doing well. Given that, that when you
pour your energy into something you really believe in it, like on a personal level, are you going
to buy one of those decals of Calvin peeing on a Chevy logo? Absolutely. It's a different.
I do have an old Ford truck that I could put that on.
Yeah.
He's going to, he'll do, he's going to make that picture.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Calvin Peeing on the Chevy logo.
I'd never be driving a Chevy.
I'd never.
Or Dodge, or Chrysler Dodge Jeep.
I've never owned any of their products.
You never own any.
I have to think by that.
Chryslers or Chevys, but you had multiple forts.
I've always felt that we are a little bit more of a Ford podcast than I want to be.
I agree.
I don't know why or how.
I've had GMs.
I've had Cadillacs.
You've had Cadillacs.
Do you remember when Mitt Romney was running for president?
And they asked him what is what he drives?
No.
You remember this?
And his response was, well, my wife's got a couple of Cadillacs.
And it was like used as a great example of how out of touch he wanted.
Which ironic that now we have Trump who's just naked about all that stuff.
And obviously, Mitt Romney's favorite food is, as you know.
Dog.
Hot dog.
Oh, wow.
That is something.
That is a good reference.
You have to remember that period of time.
Yeah.
So you're still.
going to love us because you have a financial incentive too.
No, I will still love us because I care a lot of the business,
and I have just an incredible amount of confidence in the team that's running it.
And an incredible amount of stock.
Did any of my stock go to you?
That's not how any of that works.
If it did, I'm pissed.
That's not how any of that works.
I got to look this up.
I got to go on Carta.
There you go.
Okay.
I want to move on to our next talk cars thing, and then we, maybe then we go on to the
questions and skip the market report.
I'm going to get mad about that because the market report is brought to you by
Cars and Bids merch.
Oh, merch.
Starcarsmiths.com, yeah.
God, it never stops.
And you know what?
We're telling you who the market report
is brought to you by,
we're not even going to do the market report.
That's how much
Felipe wants to run this business.
Can we talk about the V-Six?
That equity has to be worth of something.
Oh, wait, no, I'm sorry.
Ken ends a note on this is all the great cars.
Do we have why? Let's do that.
Oh, yes.
Jeez.
Oh, my God.
Felipe, what do you want to do for your final episode?
What do you want to do for your final episode?
I want to promote cars and bins at every possible term.
100%.
Why am I not wearing a carcerbith shirt?
Because you were asked to wear the giraffe.
Please make a giraffe sound.
No.
Kenan?
No, that's for you.
I don't think drafts makes.
We do a lot of great cars.
No, they do.
I am.
They eat leaves from trees, which you know all about.
Okay.
Then we're going to move on to the,
Kenan talking about all the cool cars.
Yeah, yeah, we got to talk about.
Kenan, tell us about the cool cars.
I was just scrolling through and again, like, you know, we were all, all three of us were there at the very beginning.
Oh, my God.
We were dreaming of having any cars on the site.
We started with three.
Yep.
But now, I mean, so the Mark 4, you mentioned already pretty amazing.
Guard of Super Lagera.
Dang.
Awesome.
N.
My old is defender.
Yellow defender.
Gt seven.
Gt.
Yeah.
But McLearnet's cool.
48 spider.
Which, by the way.
With 375 for a 48 already with days to go.
The 480 market is wild.
People like...
So is a 4-5.
They're amazing cards.
They're like usable, reliable.
They're amazing cars.
Manual Bacher's Spire of 14,000 miles on a Portafino M.
Oh.
7-H.
Over Trail.
It's right by the Siff.
And this is 9-9-7.
All five.
I mean, they're just like...
My twin Serbsky.
They're just so many.
Like, that lineup alone is what I dreamt of that we'd get to.
Yeah.
And now we there.
I agree with this is there.
Type in SL-65, if you will, please.
I'd one of those.
And go to the box.
The very bottom, the very, very bottom.
I remember...
Was it that one that was...
I think it was this one, actually.
And I remember when this sold, and it was like...
Nine months in.
This was six months, eight months in, yeah.
And I remember being like, oh, my God, we sold an SL-65.
I scheduled, I think, every single car between...
Sometime in 2021 and when Grant Willough took it over from me.
Thank you, Heavens for Grant.
Team member.
I remember when we were scheduling 10 cars a day.
And if we had like a BMW M2, that was like, whoa.
The banner car.
We're going to have a good day.
Put that right in the middle.
We're going to have a good day.
Beginning around, actually.
But, and now that's like a just car.
The first car I remember being like, whoa that we had was a 355.
Yep.
The convertible.
I remember that.
No, it was the, no, it was the, no, it was the, Bill.
Oh, yeah, it was a coop.
That's right.
I was remember thinking, wow, we have a $75,000 car, a Ferrari, one of my favorite
Ferraris on cars and bids.
And in the end, it's like,
now, of course, we all should have bought that car
because it's a $250,000 car.
But it is remarkable how far
just like when you used
oh, is something to do the breakdown every
era at the end of the year?
We used to do that.
Yeah, yeah.
Because like we've sold so many Porsches,
so many 9-11, so many Ferrari,
so it's just like, it's crazy.
We sell all the good stuff.
And I agree with you.
It is unbelievable the situation right now.
And that's just a normal week.
We have amazing cars.
Yeah.
They're also amazing cars down below
in the non-featured cars.
It keeps going.
We got a rat rod.
We got a manual one-owner CRV.
That's Deep U.
We got a Bauer E-36 sedan.
Do we?
What would happen if we did?
Depends is it within 50 miles
on my home asphalt or not?
We got an APB.
We got a Chrysler T-C.
The good stuff is down below, people.
There's still cars and bids cars for sure.
There's a lot of good.
Curkey, enthusiast interesting cars.
Keep going.
I want to see what else we got that.
I love the thing.
Look at this manual S-4 sedan.
I'm just so impressed.
Those sell for nothing now, by the way.
I know.
I know.
Well, for good reason.
But we have to have the van der.
The engines blow.
All good stuff.
Right.
But other than that, it's fine.
But it'd be a good glider.
The coaster.
As then you throw it off a cliff or what?
I don't know.
It's fine, as long as everything's downhill.
I love.
We have such great cars.
It's pretty remarkable.
So, like, I was going through the other days, I was submitting more cars for my business
and stuff.
Yeah.
Wow.
Geez, there's some good stuff.
I want to move on to the questions.
I appreciate that.
That's true.
There is some good stuff.
a nice type R,
Integrate type R.
Yeah.
I want to be one of the questions.
The questions are all Felipeo related.
Oh, no.
Because Felipe is leaving.
He's going to Ford.
He's going to run the entire EV program.
That's not accurate.
And within 36 months, he's going to be running the whole company.
And then after that, he's going to take over the world.
Yep.
Watch out world.
Didn't Robert McNamara do some version of that?
He was in Ford that he took over the world.
You've got to look that.
You've got to look that.
Something.
Something like that.
You don't know who that is.
Look it up.
Anyway, okay, so all the questions are Felipe related.
And you go on YouTube and if you want to ask us questions for the next pod, you go on YouTube
and there's some sort of post or something.
I don't know.
I don't know how it's done, but we've gotten the best questions we've ever gotten.
However, I want to be clear about something.
All future questions cannot be directed to Felipe.
I will not answer.
He will not answer them.
He's going to be in an office in Dearborn looking out over a field of Canadian geese.
I'll actually mostly be at my home, but yeah.
Can you answer some of these for them?
No.
I'll help you have needed.
First question from shredding pow,
what is the cheapest thing you've ever witnessed from Felipe?
Filippo's notoriously cheap.
Unbelievable.
Take it away, Doug.
I've had real lifestyle inflation and it's problematic for my second.
He said real lifestyle inflation.
Now he skates by on $3 a day.
I used to be two.
I would consider myself quite frugal.
When I knew, when I met Felipeo,
I remember the story was that Felipe would go grocery store to grocery store
looking for cheaper apples.
And it didn't matter if he was at a grocery store.
He would say, yeah, 329 for a bushel.
I don't know what.
I don't buy apples.
3.29 for a bushel.
Let's go.
He would even know that they were cheaper at a grocery store across town.
He would go there hoping.
And he would get there, 379 for a bushel.
Let's try another way.
And there was not thought paid to the time.
No, of course there was.
My time I valued at a low hourly rate.
I've heard this story from other people, but tell me in your...
I do admittedly value my time.
I'm tired of work at a low hourly rate.
Still true.
It was lower at one point.
But different supermarkets have different deals and prices and things that they are good at.
All that's true.
And I don't fault you for that.
And so I want the best quality for the cheapest price.
So I will lean towards the cheapest price over best quality, obviously.
And I would go to multiple grocery stores to get the best, the best deals.
But explain the apple.
The way that I said it was that correct?
You would see the apples and then you would go to a different store in search of different apples.
But usually I knew the stores.
I knew wherever I'd get the best deal on that type of print.
One store would be apples.
One store would be cheeses.
And you'd go to five different.
Around each other.
Only three are the most.
This is in West Philly.
Then it also true in Baltimore.
And when we look at, you're rated being shot while doing this.
It was very high in both those cities.
My goodness.
It's spent an enormous amount of time going grocery store to grocery store.
And most of the grocery stores were in like Towson.
And if you're not going to get shot there.
You would drive to Towson trying to fight.
It's the 15 minutes where the supermarkets are.
15 minutes to get a deal, a ticket to get apples.
That's where the supermarkets are.
Listen, I want to be clear, because everybody's going to write in,
everybody's going to write in and be like, oh, I also go to grocery stores for better deals.
Everybody does.
No, that's not what you did.
It was just an apple.
You would go multiple stores in search of one apple.
Admit it.
He literally compared them.
He literally compared them apples to apples.
He literally compared them apples to apples.
Different supermarkets have better produce than others.
Some have better deals on staples.
Don't purchase staples.
This is not, to clarify, not literal metal staples.
Oh, staples of your diet.
Yes.
Jeez.
Okay.
A lot of America does this because you got to maximize stress your dollars.
A lot of America does not do the Apple thing.
You're trying to make it seem like it was a, it was a, oh, I would go to one grocery store for better deals in general.
No, I heard that there was a time when you would go store to store for individual items.
That was that was never quite true for sometimes.
Not quite true.
You got to stretch your dollars.
But don't you think the act of driving to these places?
No, no, no, no.
It was always very smart in my routing.
You think I'm not thoughtful about this?
You think I'm not aware of what a gas...
You think I'm not aware of what a gallon of gas costs?
He went to Towson, and then he would hit every...
Every...
Every... I don't know what they're called out there.
Every sheets.
What do they have in Maryland?
I don't know.
All kinds of grocery stores.
Okay.
Next question from Drunken Hoping.
80-20.
Ironically, that's
Filippo's boss
and his new job.
What?
What?
Question for
Filippo.
You're going to pick
any Ford from history.
Any Ford from history
as your company car.
What would you pick?
Sport car.
You mean street car?
Yeah, I do.
Dang.
No, the actual answer
would be a second-gen-gen-R-S.
Not available in the U.S.
I love that focus.
You'd take over a sport car or street car.
Street car was a convertible.
Sport car was like a little sporty.
Oh, it existed, right?
Sport car existed, but the street car was the convertible.
Which one did you want?
I want the sportiest hashback.
It's more practical.
Okay, you take a sport car.
Well, it depends where my offices are.
The actual answer, if I had just given one would be a 4G2.
Really?
Yeah, I love the 4G2.
You love the 4G2?
You love the 4GT?
After all this.
Of course I love the 4GT.
I've always admitted it.
Oh my God.
I've always said that it's.
It's the only supercar that interests me.
I can't believe this.
That's always been true.
This is incredible.
He likes the Ford GT.
All that time.
Well, no, I knew he liked that car.
I've always loved the car.
He's driven it a couple times.
Yeah, I have.
Like, that was the only one of the cars
that he has that you like.
That I care about, yeah.
So you would choose a Ford GT in your current scenario
because you don't commute.
Right.
But if you were commuting and had to stretch that dollar,
second-gen Ford Focus for us.
Really, over the sport.
Yeah.
A little more practical.
What about ugly Puma?
Every Puma has been a little bit more.
No, no, no.
Look at that.
You ever seen one of these in prison?
Yeah.
I have to, it's not in a long time.
The late 90s Puma.
Oh, yeah, no, including over that.
This is a great.
We never got this gen Focus here.
We had a facelift that was atrocious, if we're being honest.
It was a truce.
And this car was so good.
I thought the regular one looked great.
And then the RS was special.
Okay, can I make some other suggestions?
Yeah, please.
Escort Cosworth.
Oh, yeah.
No, I'm not interested.
RS 200.
I'll take this.
Wait, but you're taking the Ford GT.
Yeah, yeah, but like, if I needed a fat if I got a two car.
Don't you think, don't you think you would rather have the one that was sold here because it has car play and you can service it at a dealership?
No.
Okay.
GTD?
No.
GT90s Mustang.
I'm good.
Did you Google the best?
Oh.
Oh.
A little, a little much for me personally.
I can't believe you know what that is.
You've been studying up?
No, everybody knows the Bronco there.
He doesn't.
I wouldn't have accepted
I drove one once.
Explorer hybrid, maybe.
What about
Mazda Navajo?
No.
Mazda B-2,300.
No, I'm good without a ranger.
I'm also good without a ranger.
Mazda B-4,000.
Don't think they were sold here.
Yeah, what do you mean?
Yeah.
They did all three of those.
Three-four thousand?
You got to brush up on your Ford knowledge.
They're going to ask you this day one.
Why did I think that the V-6 was a bit of a little?
On board you, they're going to get really into the...
Felipe, we realize we've hired you,
but there's some serious questions we have to ask you before.
I do have to say, shout out.
I logged on to our four teams thing
to get everything to set up.
And a few people that I won't work with directly
had messaged me, congratulations,
because they heard on the podcast.
And one person sent me the current product codes
for every single model.
And I really appreciated that,
and I studied that PDF closely.
Oh, yeah?
What we got?
I don't know.
Oh, we're not allowed to disclose.
We're already going into that.
It's all for current model.
It's tough.
I had a friend one time who worked for the FBI.
I wouldn't tell me what do you.
working on. Now that's this.
Now that's Felipe.
Okay, next question from Dr. Jeff King, a medical doctor.
Not a PhD.
Dear Philippo, if you had a magic wand and could fix one thing about cars and bids, what would it be?
Equity would be worth more.
I have spent a long time in a pretty senior leadership role of the company, and I
so I think I'd really be putting myself down with anything.
Why didn't I do this?
Yeah.
And there are things in that list, by the way.
Like, you look back on time spent on the time spent on a company, like, oh, I wish I had thought of this sooner or done this sooner, but there's nothing.
Nothing worth sharing.
Nothing worth sharing, so there is stuff.
Of course.
There's almost things you look back on it.
Like, I could have done this better.
I could have done this differently.
Or these things have probably had better.
I'm curious.
Would have gone back in time killed Hitler as a baby.
I don't know.
Where's this question goes?
No, it's about, Dr. Jeff King is asking this question between his shifts, between seeing people.
patience, he's asking his question specifically about cars and viz.
He's a busy man.
Yeah.
He's got the tongue depressor out.
Tell him what the answer is.
I don't think the same thing.
Where does it hurt, Philippa?
Tell him.
I don't know.
How about a better office?
I love our office.
Okay.
I looked at other offices last year that we could be strong.
Considered.
One with windows would have been nice.
Considered.
Yeah.
There was one that we had lined up that was an alternative, but we decided that we didn't want to
have windows.
Do you fix the leak in the AC?
Windows are too good for morale.
We don't want that.
My new place is.
windows. You wouldn't have fixed the
AC unit in here? The AC unit was right. You wouldn't have fixed the
wiring that's dangling from the ceiling. That's not
wiring. That is all just for our access
points. You wouldn't have cleaned up your desk once or twice?
It's clean now.
All right. Next
question from just Josh and you. Dear Doug,
Felipe doesn't want a send-off tribute, but
are you buying him a Mazda tribute?
Oh. Are you?
You know, I got more Mised to tribute miles than anybody
the world.
Can you reveal that you were a part of
the Mazda tribute? What do you?
you mean? Were you not part of a focus group?
No, no, but we had bought a Mazda tribute.
Listen, my mom bought a Mazda
tribute new in 2003. We bought it off the
lot.
Not the showroom.
Here's a question for you, though.
Were you not part of a focus group for some of the escape?
Maybe.
Chrysler sent us a thing, an unnamed brand
sent us a thing to participate in a focus group. This is when I was
15. And my mom was like, well, you've been driving a lot.
Why don't you go to the focus group? This was at the convention center
in Denver. And we went down there and did it. It was
It was a focus group for Jeep.
At the time, they were trying to come out with a fabric full-length sunroof.
Ironically, like you want to E-36 for the Liberty.
They did.
And they did come out with it.
But the focus group was like, would you buy it?
What would you pay?
What should be cost?
As far as nobody would.
Well, even did buy it.
They leaked.
And wasn't it subject to a class action?
Yes, that's my question.
So be careful about that with your Bower E-36.
However, here's a question for you.
Oh.
Gateway Mazda, October 2003, Aurora, Colorado.
I still remember it.
Yeah.
buying that car.
It was one of the three last three tributes left in the lot.
It doesn't three.
What was in the show?
But how was the last of the tribute?
Because the old fours were coming out.
Oh, okay.
There weren't any of fours hadn't come yet.
So there were only three left.
Can I tell you a secret?
Yeah.
They were identical.
It turned out they were, we didn't know.
Do you remember the old, I think it was Kelly Blue Book
that put out like a book every year that had every single model change?
Very helpful.
Very helpful.
Why does nobody do that anymore?
But Kelly Blubber probably still does.
Yeah, but they don't like put out a book.
And I remember the book.
I had the books.
That information is still.
still like in backends everywhere.
Like dealer software has it and all that.
You would look and like what is new in the SL this year?
They offered this color.
Yeah.
Power windows are now standard on this trim.
It was very help.
You know, it's any AI client asking.
Yeah.
What was in the showroom?
When we were signed the papers, I still remember.
I was 15.
Didn't the Microsoft 6 come out in 03?
Yeah.
There was one of those.
What was the really cool car in the showroom?
The Arc State.
Was it out?
It wasn't out yet.
It came out of a 4, right?
I don't remember they had it as an O4 model.
But there must have been.
It was out for a 3.
There must have been.
That would have been the cool car in the showroom.
But maybe it wasn't because it maybe it was just,
what was in my mind?
The MPVs were definitely there.
That was the final gen.
No, parked there in the showroom,
finished in bright yellow.
The Proté 5.
Oh, yes.
That's a car I learned to drive sick in.
Really?
That was a good manual.
There was a great car all around.
So you and I both want to drive manual on Mazda.
Everyone should.
Shout out to Mr. Niebold.
I love the Mazda tribute, and my mom's former one, which she bought in 2003 and only sold a couple of years ago, I think it's still out there in Phoenix.
You even Google the Vin a while?
It's been a while.
But I think it's been hit, and it's like getting serviced at discount tire.
My mom only ever brought it to Gateway Mazda.
Shout out.
We don't know if they're good or bad, but shout out to them.
Are they still out there?
Yeah.
Yeah, they're still out there.
Shortline Mazda is what it's called now.
Oh.
Okay.
Next question from Ethan H. 5147.
That's a great question.
Dear Philippo,
sitting on your grandpappy's lap as a small child in Italy.
Grandpappy would tell him stories of the war.
Both of my grandfather were dead before I was born.
Oh, my God.
Killed in the war.
Did you ever dream?
Did you ever dream of working in the EV department
at Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan?
It is an interesting concept.
It's a bit of a circuitous route for Filippo.
You ever want to work for an automaker?
When I was a kid, I really wanted to be like a mechanic or an engineer.
And I think working on an automaker would have been cool even back then.
Is that true?
I didn't know that.
You want to be an engineer mechanic?
Yeah.
Instead I do operations for companies.
You know, same thing.
I had no idea you were at any interesting engineer.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I wanted to be a mechanic for a engineer.
Really?
I have very few mechanics.
That's amazing.
In Italy, nothing ever gets done on any of your cars ever.
In Italy, when you grow up, your grandest dream in the mechanical.
But then he came here and now he's running EVs.
And pretty soon he's going to be CEO and then he's going to take over the world like back in America.
So tell me, Felipe, when you were a child, did this...
What point did you start thinking about you wanted to work for an automaker?
It's during our time here, you realize you love the cars.
I've always been interested in cars and loves regular cars more than super cars.
But you weren't considering working for an automaker after college.
No.
No, after leaving college, I was very passionate, and I still am about education policy
and how school districts are funded and senior achievement and stuff like that.
Cars and Beds came into my life through you.
Yeah.
And it's been a phenomenal journey.
Don't you think you belong in the car business?
Yeah, I think so.
And I think at some point in doing this podcast and talking about cars every week,
it's kind of solidified.
for me that really what I love is talking about and thinking about the car market.
Why do people build this?
Why do people build that?
How does government pay into that?
And so this role is really kind of a perfect combination of those things.
Do you think you'll ever go back to the education policy world?
Find out.
What do you mean we'll find out?
No, you won't?
You're going to work at Ford.
You're going to go start, you're going to go work for bright futures or then some
similarly stupidly named education policy.
No, it is for better or worse, quite unlikely that I would ever go back to the education.
Wow.
He's done.
He gave up on the kids.
You know, when I was in the same thing,
high school, I served on our school district's
board of education. I was a student representative
for the Mass and Metropolitan School District. Shout out to
them.
Damn, what was it like? It was great.
I was very involved
in our school district. So maybe as an adult, I but once again
be a board member. Oh, yeah.
I would never... You're going to run for school board?
Push us to start date back two weeks and I'll give you
$100,000. We can do it clandestine.
We're going to start bribe now.
Yeah. Yeah, no. I don't actually have any interest
for government if you're not going to get bribed.
Right. You know, I have a friend who
works for a Bureau of Standards in California.
Really?
I'm not going to say which one.
But I told her, why don't you go work for the Bureau of Automotive Repair and I could bribe you?
She said, I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that.
I was like, no, I'll say it again.
Question for Filippo.
This is a great one from Amari-Sar 2005.
It's a two-partner and I want.
Both of them answered in depth.
First question, what are your best memories of working for cars and bits?
I'm so sorry, this question is for Filipino.
I can't ask you.
No one figured out what spell his name at any point, just like Kennet.
There are people who whacked.
There are people who go on and on about their opinions of Kenon
and have no clue how to even spell his name.
Makes it even harder to value those.
Some of them really like you.
And they still have never taken the time.
My favorite thing is when I have called somebody and they go,
or someone comes up to me to know, Keenan, I'm a huge fan of you.
Keenan, I'm a huge fan.
It's like, you say it my name all the time.
And his name.
It's not Filipino.
I accept that the common auto-correct.
Right, exactly. Mine, not so much.
They're saying it, Keenan, it's Kenan.
You know my favorite thing? People will come up to me at an event and say, hi, Kenneth.
And they don't know who is who.
They say that they're a big fan, but we don't look that much of like.
Don't you think Thomas and James have this problem, though?
And they're completely different.
One of them is British and the other one is Canadian.
Right.
Right.
They both live in Canada, but yeah.
Also, they look very different, sound very different.
Are different people?
Okay.
What are your best memories of working for cars and bits?
I'm curious, too.
There's a lot of great memories.
Oh, really?
Just name a couple.
I'm trying to think of what I, what.
Trying to think of one.
No, no, no, there's a lot of...
I'm just interacting with my team members on a day-to-day basis.
Providing value.
That's right.
I've been...
There's a lot of, like, very, like, powerful memories.
I remember the first time we sent out a large email.
It was, like, to 100,000 people, Thanksgiving of 2020, and it was, or maybe it was when we launched,
save searches.
Free auctions.
It was, like, the power, like, Brian.
Ryan Slater, who's our designer, and I would be like pouring over it,
making sure that it was all looked perfect because it's scary to send 100,000 emails.
And now when we do that, we're sending 1.3 million of them somehow.
And it's scary.
I remember our first company in person in San Diego in the summer in August of 2021.
You were expecting your first kid who was born shortly thereafter if memory serves.
First time that like the 10 of us got together in person and it was very cool.
is actually just be together and solving problems
and figuring out what to build
and figuring out who we were as a company together.
Ryan Lopez came to the next one.
Ryan Lopez came to the one after that, I think.
Yeah.
Downtown, the day you got your 355.
Oh, yeah.
So that was that one.
You were at that one?
I don't think he was at the downtown one.
No, that's right.
The 21 one was the one you're talking.
Yeah, yeah, but then we did one downtown,
which is also great, one down here.
Those are your best memories.
The one that's solidified.
I was looking at a picture of sitting on your old patio
because it's only we didn't have an office.
Yeah, obviously.
Yeah, we were on the patio for a lot.
The first two, we didn't have an office.
What about, here's the next question is,
what were you doing when Cars and Bids was launched?
I was working by education policy.
Well, no, that's what he's asking.
What was your job?
Take me through that.
We took you away from that job.
Yeah, I led kind of data implementations.
We were a budgeting and finance software tool.
The company was called Alaview.
Since acquired.
Since acquired by PowerTool.
And I was...
The application, technology, policy, finance.
Yeah, I was working with the largest school districts.
I could connect software, like financial systems and do financial analyses and kind of support the school districts.
And I stopped supporting school districts.
And then he stopped supporting school districts.
Yeah.
Now he doesn't care about the kids.
I care a lot about the kids.
That was Felipe.
That's where he came.
from. That's where I came from.
Next question.
Um, and then, and then, and then I called you and at what point did you, at what point did
you make the decision like, I'm gonna take this career 180? You had gone to a good college,
you had, you had gone on a prescribed path. Yeah. I, the sociology degree was a decision,
but other than that, you had gone on a prescribed path. You were, you were gonna succeed in
America. Sure. And then you make this like complete one startup to another startup and
Yeah, but one of them was in your desired few.
But I've always loved cars.
Yeah.
And it was a good time to.
I remember I told you you shouldn't do it.
You absolutely didn't, yeah.
But I decided to do it when I was with you in person.
He is the American dream, though.
He came to this country, not speaking the language.
He learned it.
He mastered it.
And then he went on and pursued a career.
Now he works for one of the most American companies there is.
That's right.
It's right.
He came to this country with only the clothes on his back.
That's right.
No, his mom had a 401K.
No, no.
No.
It's about stories about Philippa.
Italian pension from being a school teacher.
She had an Italian pension.
She's not allowed to take it up.
She earned 600 lira a week.
For God's sake.
It was enough to buy the staples, but only if they went to seven grocery stores.
600 lira a week, just so you know it would be about the 30 cents.
Well, that's, it wasn't much of a pension.
Italy was going through some tough times.
Alessandro Volta was long dead.
The heyday was over.
I remember the switch from the lira to the Euro syllabus.
of the only? A same.
You didn't live in Italy at the time, but yeah.
But I remember hearing about it, Felipe.
Alita, if you wanted to actually use them, we're in the thousands,
because Russian had been a real problem.
And the euro came out.
And then the euro came out, and suddenly it was like a dollar is a dollar, baby.
Heck yeah.
Germany and France, save that, yeah.
In a euro is a dollar, 30 now, but yeah.
And Flipo's grandparents never turned in their lira.
They were like, nope, we don't trust it.
We don't trust it.
They still had money with Mussolini on it.
Okay, next question.
This is a really good one for Filippo.
Yeah.
From Chris Chris 233, Dear Filippo,
can we get your top three favorite cities in Wisconsin?
Oh, sure.
Madison is certainly up there.
Manacua has some really great cross-country skiing,
trails, et cetera,
and I generally love, like the northern Wisconsin,
Great Lakes, et cetera.
Got to choose a third.
You're not going to say Milwaukee, make people happy.
No, no, no, no.
Magus in Milwaukee.
Make people happy.
What about Wisconsin Dells?
Oh, the Dells has some good, like, amusement parks.
What about O'Clair?
I don't have strong feelings about it.
I would go further north.
Where do I want to go for this?
What about, what about Monona?
Manona is fine.
It's a suburb of Madison.
What about Shorewood?
Shortwood is not really a town.
It's technically its own town within Madison.
It's where the rich people live.
What about Maple Bluff?
That's not the right direction for me.
Oh, really?
Hey, damn.
Wow, that's your saying
some bad stuff
to the folks at Maple Bluff.
We'll go all the way
to
why I'm like in the name of the town.
Canosha, Green Bay.
Beaver Dam.
Ashkosh.
No, no, no.
This is already going on
the way this way.
I really bless you the name of the town
where the Berkey starts.
Why am I blinking on this?
Lake Geneva.
No.
You know what?
I'm actually good.
I don't need the answer to this.
Okay, next question.
It's going to continue.
We're going to keep going on this.
In Cable, Wisconsin,
or sorry, Hayward, Wisconsin,
where the Burtmina ends.
Good, cross-country ski race,
quite long.
Yeah.
How long?
50-something kilometers.
Nothing like choosing a town's quality
based on the length of a cross-country ski race
that terminates there.
All right, next question.
You ski into the downtown Hayward.
It's the celebration.
And having hot chocolate.
Never actually done it.
Right.
Like, Ken Miles crossing the line.
That's what Felipe saw, you know.
Okay.
Next question.
from some hard-boiled,
Dear Felipe and friends,
I want to take my partner to Italy
who has never been.
We love road trips.
It's another geography question for you.
If you could plan an Italian road trip,
where would you go and in what car?
Oh, okay.
Great.
It depends on where you're going
for what car.
Yes, definitely.
Well, you get to pick it all, dude.
We're going to Luca.
Don't need a car.
You could go to the Fondentia.
The fundamental truth about Italy
is that it's not that big a country.
And so if you're used to actually
traveling distances,
you can go anywhere you want
from anywhere you want.
There's a lot of highways.
Whenever we go,
we get wild looks when we tell people where we've been.
Because we will have done a thousand or 1500 miles,
which to an Italian is unheard of.
Driving two hours is, like,
telling somebody from Italy that you drove two hours
is equivalent of telling somebody from Ohio
that they drove for the weekend to California.
Yeah, totally.
Like, it's like the same look at what incredulity.
That's not a word.
I love northern Italy and, like, Tuscany and Umbria
and driving around there.
This past trip in,
and Abruzzo thought that was truly incredibly beautiful
over to the water.
It depends on what you...
You got to decide what you want.
I love mountains.
Filippa loves mountains.
The Dalamites are phenomenal.
Everywhere in Italy is great.
Just go to Italy.
Everywhere in Italy is great?
Everywhere north of Rome certainly is.
Well, this Abruzzo is south of Rome.
I know.
That's an exception.
I'll make all the down to Puyah.
That's great.
What about Sienna?
You like Sienna?
Yes, it's beautiful.
I love it.
But what about all the British tour?
in the...
You gotta find the right time to go.
I also like,
if you want to go to like a town
in Uri, Tuscany,
Orvieto, I think it's beautiful
and then Montepuchano,
Montepinio,
uh,
and Pienza,
like that little trifecta
is a really fun,
uh,
part of Italy to be in.
Uh,
love around Lillacomo,
also love around like,
Cinco Tada area.
You know,
I don't know,
there's so many places you should go.
Many years ago,
one time I was in San Remo.
San Remo, yeah.
Ventimiglia.
Yeah, Ventimia.
Right by the border there.
Yeah,
Yeah,
Yeah, yeah.
And I saw a Delta Integrale Evo 2 drive on the road.
Yeah.
Wow.
So maybe you should go there.
I know.
Summer?
Yes, summer.
Where were they from?
France.
No, they were Italian.
Nobody drives those outside Italy.
That's true, but that is a wealthy part of the country in summer.
So you basically say all of Italy is great.
Kind of, yeah.
And the road trip, I figure out a bunch of, there's so many.
When you go to Italy, especially if you've gone a bunch of time, you kind of end up
discovering that there's all these really cool city.
like small cities that are truly like 50,000 or 100,000 people at the most, but that are great
places to stop.
But they're not going to be one of the core recommendations.
Like you can go to Ferrara or like on the eastern side of the country which is like a small
city that doesn't show up anywhere.
But there's a great like biking culture.
Right.
And like you can like bike, everybody bikes around town and they have a great little tour.
And that's true of so many in their own way, little Italian cities.
The answer is go anywhere in Italy.
Yeah, kind of.
Yeah, you can go to Italy so many times in your life and enjoy it every single time.
You could also do the melee, melee, million of 300.
Which is what I'm saying.
Any time I talk to an American who's never traveled abroad,
Italy is the place you want to see.
It's the most beautiful place.
The understanding is well enough.
But it's exotic enough that it feels different.
You need to go to Italy.
By the way, the car, he's asked about the car.
I'm going to answer that for you.
Jaguar XF Sport Break Diesel.
No, well, you want something small and manual like a Fiat Panda.
No.
You want an XF Sport Break Diesel.
1-66 Barquette.
If you were to drive around a small manual,
if you were to drive around.
If you were to drive around.
of Abruzzo and an XF Sport Break.
There would be roads where you truly feel like
you're an impediment to traffic.
Because they're too narrow, they're too tight.
That's not right hard.
Yeah, but everybody would respect you
because you have an excess sport break.
You're the richest guy in town.
Don't go bigger than a polo.
You know, I think this guy wants to have fun.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Okay, next question, next question,
from Clippy is aware.
This is a great.
Do you Doug, has Philippo ever gotten mad about something
when work for cars and bids?
If so, what happened?
Filippo seems so calm and composed
that I can't picture rage being an emotion for him.
We've butted heads.
Rage is not an emotion for me, but, man, frustration can be.
Filippo and I and all, we all, I mean, it's been in six years, we've butted heads.
There have been some head-budding incidents.
I remember the Ford GT Reserve conversation.
I don't.
That's not one of the ones that remains in my mind.
There have been some incidents where I have said some things to Filippo that I later apologize for,
and that he has said some things to me
that he later had his wife apologize to me for.
That's the point of being very, right?
Inevitably, when you are,
you bring a bunch of passionate people together
about something they're passionate about,
there's disagreement.
I find that to be a good thing.
I think that there's much more progress
when there's disagreement.
Have I gotten mad, mad, probably.
I can't think of any case where I've gotten, like, truly angry.
You've definitely gone on hinged a couple times,
and I'm like, hmm, sure.
But so about it, obviously.
I don't think I've ever seen you get unhinged.
He's done some stuff that I'm like, this is insane behavior.
Yeah, that's probably true.
It wasn't angry, but it was like, this is not like a logical response to a situation.
It's probably true.
But that's okay.
It happens.
We have passionate people all in one place.
He looks like a giraffe, for God's sake.
I'd imagine a giraffe angry.
Okay, I have one last question.
Oh, good.
I have one last question.
Oh, yeah.
From Dollar Hit Gamer, Dear Philippo,
Why Become a Suit?
This is the throwaway question for Felipe.
He's done after this question.
This is the end.
Why become a suit?
You seem to have the coolest gig hanging out with friends.
And by the way, you should see what he gets paid.
And you get to see the fruits of all your hard work.
Yeah.
Well, we covered this a little bit before.
But what about those fruits?
I am surprised.
Like, this is the time that the fruits are fruiting.
I know.
This would be like if you were something.
old decrepit farmer
and you planted your crops
Do you ever consider that when
you are like this and actively the side of your
microphone, not the best audio?
People can hear and if they can't, they understand
based on body language.
It took years for the fruit.
The hundreds of thousands of people
that listen to this podcast.
Folks, if you listen, you really should watch.
Should you?
You should see what you're missing.
We all just sit here.
They overlay stuff sometimes.
The fruits, Leapo.
Don't you want to bear fruit?
Wild phrase.
There's a time to reap and a time to sew.
You have sown and or reap.
I've never understood which is which,
but don't you want to do the good one now?
Yeah.
He's not sewing.
So why do they say reap and sew?
It should go sow and reap.
Because it sounds better.
The way, you sew and then you eventually
you reap the fruits of your...
So you're wrong.
Sowing you sow first and then you reed.
So you're right, but I still, back to my point, why do they say reap and sew?
It should be so and reap.
You reap what you sow.
I don't understand it.
You reap what you do.
You plant the crops and then you eat the crops.
And you're in the eat the crops phase right now and you're going to do it with all of us.
Johnny, you're never going to see Johnny again.
I'll hopefully see Johnny.
Don't you want to sit and eat crops with Johnny?
Yeah, I would love to.
So what's going on here?
You think there's going to be a Johnny at the next.
company?
No, there can never be another Johnny.
Johnny's unique.
It is a great time for person and bits.
Sometimes the things that make sense for you personally are slightly different than what,
like,
it's not what people would expect.
And also,
the company's in this really phenomenal place.
And I have a true,
profound belief that the skill set that we need now,
my skill set is not what's best suited.
I think I have a little bit of zero to one.
You're going to a company with $150,000.
I know, I know.
I got to change what I'm good at a little bit.
But for the stage of course,
and business,
I think new, new vision, new skills,
new mindset is going to be what's going to be most helpful
for somebody in my role now.
And it's a good time to transition
because we're in such a good position
where we're going to kind of keep both plant sewing
and reaping.
Because we can do that,
which is great.
And I'm excited to watch that as a friend.
Because I don't know which is which,
so it's a good thing that we're just doing it all.
Sometimes it's cult-fitting in there too.
Sure.
I don't disagree with you.
I am going to be sad to see you,
go. Everyone here is going to be said to see you go.
I appreciate that. Especially Ryan Lopez.
And I will still see the fruits of the work.
Right. As a shareholder.
As the biggest Cars and Bids fan.
And he's got a lot of plants in the ground as a shareholder.
Felipe, give us your final parting thoughts to end the podcast, please.
Thank you to all of the many, many people that inexplicably watch this every week and listen to it every week.
I'm incredibly, incredibly proud of what the Carson Bits team has built.
or last like years.
I'm incredibly proud of my role in doing that, truly.
And I'm also just very appreciative of the millions of people that come to the website every week,
that watch the content every week.
Thank you for being a part of it.
Best podcast we've ever done.
Yeah.
Goodbye, everybody.
No.
No.
Hi, everybody.
I'm Felipe.
I'm Italian.
And pizza.
It's got to be against the lot of look.
Damn good.
Because baby I feel real good and I wish I would
It's got to be against the Lord of
Everybody watch out, watch out now
I am so gonna win this challenge
America will win
Hey, great, right, right, right
Oh, oh, fuck.
Yes!
Oh, it's nice to be my home, literally.
Italy, of course.
I'm noto, I'm creciutto,
and now I'm, I'm,
here in the little Italy.
Are you Italian?
Are you Italian?
Vivi, what preferrish, the Fiat 500 Abart or the multiple?
You've got right, bravo.
Somehow we actually encountered real Italians,
then Felipe was speaking to them,
proving that he is actually an Italian.
Turns out.
Yeah, surprisingly.
