and welcome to this car pie.
I'm Kenan. I'm Philippo.
And there's a lot to cover, so let's start with the news.
Yes, the ZR1X has been announced, and it's a really big thing.
It's a 1,250 horsepower corvette.
They've taken the ZR1, and like a lot of people were expecting,
they added the E-R-R-Wry hybrid all-wheel drive situation,
which bumped the power from 1064 to 1250,
So there's a ZR1.
You can say, oh, you knew Corvette, is it a ZR1?
No, it's a ZR1 X.
Yeah.
This thing's going to be pretty insane.
You must be thrilled.
I do love every Corvette variant.
And I do legitimately love the ERA.
So this is a nice combination of things.
You do love the ERA.
Who doesn't love the ERA?
I don't get out of the market.
But I disagree with the market.
Yeah, I think they're wrong.
ERA's cool.
So it's going to be able to maintain 1G of force of acceleration
until 85 miles an hour. From 0 to 85, it'll maintain more than than 1 G of acceleration,
which is crazy. Under 2 seconds, 060 time, under 9 second standing quarter mile, 15 mile an hour
trap feed. It's run an 8th in the 150s from the factory. Yeah, it's a wild, wild, wild car.
I have some questions. So it's going to be for sale by the end of 2025. Pricing not yet announced.
What is 01 pricing?
zero one pricing is 180-ish
I imagine it'll be more than that
200 it's as the first Corvette to cross 200 grand maybe
I do have some question about why it's
why it's being announced right now
the zero one's not really available yet
it's like will this steal sales from that
I don't know maybe
but it's cool I just don't think
I think it's such a different
it's just such a different vehicle
no I mean there'll be people who now wait
on a zero one to get a zero one X but
I don't know.
The Corvettes ultimately has been out for six years,
so at some point there's, you know,
you've got to kind of start moving things along.
There's probably a facelift coming.
They did that interior facelift.
But still, like, this is an absolutely monstrous, monstrous number.
You know, when Corvette was redesigned,
I went to the product launch,
and they made a big thing.
It was in Vegas, which is fitting.
And they made a big thing about how the move to mid-engine was in part
because they were running out.
out of, they were reaching the limits of what they could do with a front engine,
rear-wheel drive car and chassis and engineering setup.
And they wanted the ability to expand and do more.
And mid-engine gave him that.
And this car and the ZR-1 are such proof of exactly what they were talking about.
Like, you were never going to make a 1,250 horsepower C-7, you know, like OE.
But with mid-engine and with all-wheel drive and with the hybrid system, you know,
powering the front wheels, you actually have the ability to,
to do that, which is why a lot of the craziest powerful cars are mid-engine.
And here we're seeing it.
Like, this is the Corvette of the Corvettes.
Like, anybody who doesn't think the Corvette is now, you know, has reached supercar
territory, here it is.
I mean, it's kind of hard to deny at this point at over 200 grand and at 1,200 horsepower.
I'm sure we haven't seen the fastest version of the Ruelto and the other kind of modern
crop of hybrid supercars, but this is going to be half the price, a third of the price of a
Ruelto and be faster to do.
or 60, have 250 more horsepower than that, still be not just electric.
I'm trying to think of other gas-powered cars that are put out this much power that are readily
available.
Yeah.
I think I remember reading even when the ZR1 came out for its price.
There's nothing that comes close to, like, if you want to go 200 miles an hour, I mean,
for the price, there is nothing that comes faster.
Well, I mean, from an acceleration horsepower perspective, of course, there's the Tesla's.
Of course.
Yeah, but there's a bunch of fully Vs that do that.
but I can't think of any other gas-powered cars that come close.
Especially sports cars.
I mean, you know, the Corvettes, the Corvettes USB has always been that it is like the value prop compared to, you know, Porsches and Ferraris.
But like, it was always, you know, it was an era where all cars were slower.
Now here's a car that is zero to 60 and under two seconds.
I mean, Felipe can't even handle that, Kenon.
I don't think I can.
I don't think I can.
That's accurate.
He would turn into liquid, Kenon.
He would turn into liquid.
Wow.
An actual liquid.
It'd be full liquid.
Philippe Flow.
This is just insane.
Like a Corvette, Chevy dealers must be thrilled because this is a true Halo product in a way that the Corvette hasn't been for a bit.
Chevy dealers are probably thrilled.
But the thing is, these cars are all sold out.
And what Chevy dealers would really be thrilled by is a really great demand, market demand, shift in market demand for EVs.
But that ain't coming.
Philippa, why don't you tell us about the waggoner?
thing. That's the real news story of the week.
Yeah. It turns out that you can
you can lease a Wagonier
S, so the electric Jeep
for zero money down.
Zero money down. And $299 a month.
That's a 600 horsepower, 3.5
seconds zero to 60.
Brand new SUV for $299
a month. Is that the cheapest way to
beat a Enzo zero to 60?
All right.
What's our next news?
That's only $7,200.
Speaking of cheap, what is this going to cost?
This is, okay, let me first say what it is.
This is the new Nissan Leaf.
So you might remember the Leaf as the car that nobody cares about,
despite it being the first real EV to market in the US.
The first EV, this was the Model T of electric cars, damn it.
It paid the way.
It did.
It's now in this third generation after everybody forgot the second generation existed.
And it's now like a more crossover.
It's going to start in the mid-30s, mid-30,000.
$1,000 range. We're going to have 300 miles of range, and it is very exciting for you,
Kenyon. Do you want to guess how much horsepower it will produce?
Let me see. A wild guess. I feel like it's going to be in the 350 range.
Up to 214 horsepower.
Up to 214.
They're not going for speed. They're going for efficiency.
But going for forward motion would be nice. Like that's 214.
214. How do these automakers justify whole?
holding back the performance level of their electric cars,
considering that it is so easy to attain power with EVs
and other manufacturers aren't holding back their performance.
In this case, they're certainly going for price,
and the model they've announced has just a single motor.
It's a single front-mounted motor instead of the motor in wheels
that the more expensive EVs are going to
where you can increment power kind of infinitely.
Yeah, but single motor.
So they're going for price.
But what is a cheap model three cost and has more power than this thing?
214. Come on.
Plus, you can get a new Model 3 performance on Cars and Bids.com, folks, Cars and Bids.com for like 14.
Smooth.
Used EVs are going to be the big problem for every EV manufacturer because they just are not holding value and so they're incredibly attractive deal.
A couple more things about this leaf.
It's like a massive departure in terms of styling from the old ones.
It's like a coupe SUV type look.
It is fun fact shorter than the last leaf, which is already a pretty small car.
So this is going to be small.
Like I'm thinking Toyota CHR sized for those that that resonates with, which is nobody.
I have to listen to this podcast.
And it's a new EV from Nissan.
Can you name the other Nissan EV?
I thought it was an SUV.
It looks like the ARIA.
It's not an SUV.
It's like SUV shaped-esque, Kupi SUV shape, but small.
It looks like, you know what it looks like is the crown, the Toyota Crown.
It does.
It does.
The Aria is Nissan's other SUV.
other EV, which is like a larger, rounder SUV. This is a smaller.
It's actually very good. I think it's a nice looking car. Just 214 horsepower.
35. Dude, you actually made an interesting point just now.
You aren't used cars a problem for EVs. What about that?
What are used to be that people didn't want to buy used cars because they were unreliable, right?
And that was like the reason that they, well, wait a minute. Use EVs, they're not unreliable
necessarily. Why can we, why would you buy that instead of what are these, what are we selling Model 3s for?
But they got to be in the team.
Performance went for 16 grand.
Oh my.
Performance?
What a regular one?
Model three.
No, Model three performance.
I have a lot of miles, but still.
But also that's still performance.
Still.
But still.
Still.
Go to the lowest price.
21.
Yeah.
I mean, you can get three-year-old ones for 20 for low 20s all day.
Leopo, are these under 10 yet?
I don't think I see one under 10, but I think the tax credit,
you use DV tax credit might apply for some.
If I got a high mileage, if I get a high mileage,
17. What did this one sell for?
15.5 for one with 132,000 miles.
It's getting there. Model 3 long range.
Model S's you can get very close to it.
Yes, they made it for a lot longer.
And those do have some reliability issues.
Okay, that's the new Nissan Leaf kind of dull.
What other news stories you got?
Anything fun?
What's the next cat on?
Ah, yes.
So Honda.
Honda has recently announced that they're going to start making components for older cars.
Now, I think this is a big deal because it shows that they're willing to support
their legacy vehicles that exist.
It was kind of hinted at the
NSX as one of those cars, like important cars
from their past. And I think this is a
huge deal of someone who owns an aging performance
car from another brand
that a lot of parts are no longer available.
And I don't mean like, oh, it's hard to get.
Nope, they're gone, that's it.
And that is unbelievably infuriating
for like basic components.
I'm looking straight down the barrel
of my M5. Well, yeah, but so you just
buy a parts car. That's what Felipe and I
do with our TR6s.
That's what I did with my 1994 Honda Accord, yeah.
Right, because those are, yeah.
The problem is it gets stolen.
Right, with a spoon.
But the thing is, I'm happy to hear that they are considering doing this
because it means that they're willing to invest in the legacy of their brand.
And a lot of many, some manufacturers are very good at this.
Mercedes-Benz Classic is wonderful at this.
Porsche Classic is great of this.
Audi and BMW are awful at this.
And a lot of brands that have built, have these great past cars just don't support them.
and it means that it's harder for enthusiasts like us to keep them on the road.
So the fact that Honda is even willing to explore this with 3D printing
and new production techniques of making these old components
that either contracts have run out with manufacturers that produce it for them
is a big deal, especially at that level.
And again, this is a company that sells millions of cars a year,
and they don't really have to be concerned with this,
but the fact that they care enough about cars like the NSX or the, you know, like cars of that ill.
The integrity type are predominantly predominantly.
I do agree with your point.
This is all about legacy.
And can you, for the vast majority of owners of NSX's, they put miles on it, they're not going to try to keep it perfect.
But if you have like a really low mile, perfect one and you want support from the factory to keep it pristine to fix the things that maybe age out, if you want the legacy of like we have the coolest old cars that are perfected that have been perfected, that have been restored.
Eventually, you need manufacturer support.
However, what I would say is there's no real reason to.
want that legacy unless you maybe have some products upcoming that are part of the lineage.
You know what I mean?
I do.
What does Honda care what happens to the NSX later in life unless they want people to buy a
new one and those people think that Honda still cares about these cars and performance and
supporting them and resale value and reliability?
So I wouldn't be surprised if there's something to that.
I also was very disappointed when this news story started.
They showed a picture of the old NSX and
tenants started by saying, Honda has announced that they're going to produce.
And I was like, oh, it's coming.
And then now they're going to make parts.
No, sorry.
Yeah, not quite there yet.
Maybe next week.
But for now, it's, I'm very excited about this for, on behalf of Honda owners,
because I understand exactly what that means.
And boy, I wish BMW'd wake up and actually give some support to their classic vehicles.
But nonetheless, I think that it's a, I think this is, this is great.
And I hope more manufacturers do this.
and Honda is very good at making,
like understands that they need to make parts of high,
high quality, not just like to make the parts.
So I think it's very good news for Honda people.
Every day, I live in fear that my 4GT door latch will stop working.
Or any of the gauges or a taillight.
No, no, gauges and tail lights are available.
The door latch, unavailable.
NLA.
Let me tell you something.
If that door doesn't latch, I can't.
You just got to dukes a hazard.
It's hard enough to get into that car with the doors that duo.
So for you to not have an opening door, it makes it pretty tough.
Now, has anyone ever had a door latch fail?
No.
All right, guys, real talk.
Brunt Workwear is back as a sponsor.
And while I've not always been a boots guy,
I have to say that these boots blew me away.
I got the Marin boots.
And the second I put them on, I was like, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Am I even wearing boots?
How are they this comfortable?
Most work boots feel like concrete blocks for the first week.
But not these.
No break-in needed, just straight-up comfort and durability.
They're made for more than just walking.
Instead of wearing them around for the uncomfortable break-in period,
I was walking around my house wearing them like sneakers,
just good-looking real boots with actual comfort.
Brunt was founded by a guy named Eric Gerard,
and he grew up as a salt of the earth, blue-collar guy,
and built this brand for real workers.
That's why these boots are named after guys he grew up with.
It's personal, and it shows.
Whether you need waterproof, safety, toe, pull on, lace up, Brunt's got you covered, and they've got more than just boots, heavy-duty workwear that is built to last.
Brunt didn't just make a durable work boot.
They reinvented comfort for the hardest workers out there.
And for a limited time, our listeners get $10 off Brunt by using code cars at checkup.
Just head to bruntworkware.com and use the code cars, that's C-A-R-S, and you're all set.
after purchase, they will ask you where you heard about them.
Please support our show by telling them that you heard about them from us
and enjoy your pair of brunt work boots.
Okay, move on to our next news story, please.
Please.
Ooh, a Jeep driving over some dirt.
All right, so here's the story.
Tell us about this one.
Part of the bill that the House and the Senate are reconciling,
part of the big, beautiful bill, is that they're mandating, as part of that bill,
which has not yet passed, has not been finalized, has not yet been signed by the president.
Want to make that really clear.
They're mandating that the Bureau of Land Management,
the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service sell more than 2 million acres of public land over the next five years
and are allowed to sell up to 258 million acres of land.
This is primarily almost entirely land in the far western state in the southwest and the west coast.
Here's the connection to cars.
There's fundamentally a political story, but there's a deep connection to cars,
which is a lot of car enthusiasts use BLM land, especially if you're from the west.
If you're from the east coast, you might not recognize how much public land.
land there is, kind of west of New Mexico. But a lot of enthusiasts out here use that land to go
off-roading, to go camping, to go exploring, to take long road trips. Matt Fair of the Smoking
Tire famously has done a bunch of those. And that land might become private. And once it's private,
certainly by most accounts, will not be available to enthusiasts to drive on, will not be available for
off-roading, will not be available for hiking, etc. Something that a lot of people with their
Wranglers with the Subaru EVs that we're going to be talking about are out there doing, which could
be really sad.
If you're into off-roading, this might legitimately impact your ability to use public land for that
purpose.
Yeah, I agree.
Public land is the greatest gift that the Western United States, it's the only benefit that
the Western United States has over the Eastern United States aside from lack of humidity.
And it's, I've always, I grew up around tons of public land and I was astonished when I learned
that some of these other places don't have it.
People in the East don't understand.
And you can just, and this is something I was told, even this is a, this is the, the Republicans are mainly pushing this through.
This is something I've been, a lot of conservative friends of mine are actually the ones who are users of this land.
They like to go out and shoot their guns and drive their, and I'm, you know, two million acres is nothing in the grand scheme.
But if, if hundreds of millions of acres are potentially sold, that that could be sad.
It's, we do it. We take our cars. I mean, I've taken the G-Wagon and the other cars just off.
In California, you get far enough out. You can just kind of.
kind of turn off the road and just go.
And there's no one around to stop you and there's nothing,
no rules really.
You just do what you want.
And so that's an interesting situation.
It's an incredible resource that might very well be sold as part of the,
of this legislation.
Would you buy some of this land, Felipe?
I don't know that I really have a purpose for any of it now.
Oh, well,
the theory, by the way, and what Republicans in the,
in Congress are advocating for is this could make money, right?
You sell the land, sell for money.
There could also be housing built on some of this land.
Of course, most of the land is quite far from any place people want to live.
If you actually look at where this land is located, very small percentages near a city.
So it's questionable from outside reports how much would actually be able to be sold
for real amounts of revenue for the federal government.
But it would mean certainly the loss of a lot of off-roading, camping, nature land.
nature the bears you know bears
he's from Chicago he knows
I'm not from Chicago I'm from Cleveland
give me a break unbelievable hey
remember if it's brown laid down
if it's black fight back and if it's white
you're dead
you're dead give us the next news story
speaking of Subaru EVs
I knew I've heard of that because he's never seen a bear
he doesn't know what a bear is yeah that's right
fun fast when I first move to the U.S.
West, we moved to Western Massachusetts.
There were brown bears at our door most mornings.
Did you mean black bears?
Black bears?
Black bears, yes.
Black bears are very, like, socialists.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They're kind.
I was a kid.
They don't know nothing about animals.
I know nothing that animals.
All right.
Grizzly bears were parading.
They were walking into Boston.
They were the famed Boston Grizzlies.
A Western Mass.
A few weeks ago, we talked about the Subaru Trail Seeker,
which is the wagon version of the Super Bowl.
Bruce O'Oterra and Toyota BZ,
former the BZ 4X, now as BZ.
Toyota has now announced their version of that,
to nobody's surprise,
which is going to be called the BZ Woodland.
And it's a station wagon SUV thing.
375 horsepower,
up to 260 miles of range,
all-wheel drive,
it's fundamentally a wagon version of that EV.
But here's the cool thing.
Toyota now sells two station wagons.
And no enthusiasts care,
even though they should,
but Toyota truly sells two station wagons.
And no other manufacturer right now sells two station wagons.
I saw one of them Crown Signias just today.
Yep.
There's a Crown Sign which is a hybrid station wagon.
It is unappealing.
This is pretty appealing.
If we're being honest, I'm not interested in either, but both exist.
Why are you not interested in this one?
It's got big power.
It's got four-wheel drive.
It's got decent range.
It's going to be affordable.
What's wrong with this?
Nothing wrong with it.
It looks better than a super version.
What's the problem?
Dude, you're right.
You're right.
You're right.
I am into it.
I have to rethink that.
Yeah, yeah.
If Waganeer S's are leasing at $299 with zero down, this is like an $84 a month car.
Like I really think you're going to be in cell phone.
You know what?
I'm into it.
And once the Crown Signia becomes cheap, I will maybe be into it.
I don't think the Crown Signia is that desirable, but this car has power.
Like, this is going to actually be like a pretty enjoyable car from an acceleration.
Like, if you could have this or an Outback Wilderness, this is kind of an appealing alternative, no?
Yeah, if an EV works for your outback lifestyle, yeah.
The crowd signet, by the way, it's kind of appealing.
If you're shopping for an outbacker equivalent, it's similar size, way better fuel economy.
It doesn't look bad.
I'm into the crown signature.
An EV does work for my outdoor lifestyle because my outdoor lifestyle is mainly centered around going to Western Massachusetts to find grizzly bears.
All right, moving on.
You never know, Kenon, you never know.
I mean, I spent my time going to the UP to find...
The grizzly bears might storm Albany.
By the way, speaking of Albany, you know what the real news story of the week is?
Have you guys been following the mayor's election in New York City?
Sure.
Okay.
New York City mayor, they're up for election, okay?
And this happens every few years.
And what happens is many, many people run and they're all universally agreed to be terrible candidates.
And then they end up with someone bad.
And that's been true to last.
That is the story of New York mayor.
And that's the story this time.
However, however, I have learned an interesting fact.
The frontrunner in the race is this fellow named Andrew Cuomo, who you may remember he was
the governor and then he had to resign because he sexually assaulted all sorts of people.
You'd think that would be disqualifying, but somehow it is not.
But the point of this is, you know what he drives?
Did we talk about this?
You mentioned it, but I have forgotten.
He drives.
Dodge Charger, Widebody Scat Pack, 392.
And he's been getting school zone speed limit tickets all over the city.
Oh, oh, I'd expect nothing less.
this, and this muscle car, he's up in there, you know, he's, he's, uh, just disgraced governor driving
around in this thing.
Man, he's come to fire your dad.
Do you think he's white line certified?
He's part of swim club, you know, just cutting up the, uh, maybe he is.
Maybe he is.
I think he is.
Maybe he's doing that.
Uh, anyway, Felipe, you don't have any commentary on that?
No.
You don't have any commentary on the, God, Pilippo's too.
He's afraid of getting it into any political anything.
But I'm sitting here telling you, Andrew Cuomo's got a Charger 3-92.
Do with that what you want.
Some people are going to be like, I'm voting for him.
And some people are going to be like, you know what?
I think I'm not going to vote for him now.
I'll say that the most recent mayoral winner lives in New Jersey.
And is maybe a vegan.
So, like, I would associate him with owning a Chargers gap act.
So where does Andrew Cuomo live?
You know, that's the question.
He doesn't live in New York.
None of these people can find their way in New York City.
That's the other thing.
Okay, all right, we got to move on.
I don't know why we're talking about New York.
Nobody here has ever been in New York.
Is there other news stories?
Yes, there is.
Oh, good.
Here's a story that only I care about, but I really want to talk about it.
That's a great intro for a news story, Felipe.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I'm really trying to draw interest in a bit.
Sounds like another Felipe news story.
I came across an article last week about B-YD, Build Your Dreams, which is a large Chinese automaker.
Their executive vice president, Sella Lee, stated that China's electric vehicle price war is very
extreme, not sustainable, and she predicts that there'll be consolidation in the sector
because of these kind of very, very insane price worth. Basically, BYD kicked off a bunch of
price discounting for their EVs that has made every other competitor in the Chinese
EV space lower their prices, throw in additional incentives, and basically just fully erode
their margins. BYD has cash. This is a more interesting news story than I was expecting.
You know, we've been talking, because we've had a few of these Chinese.
EVs here in the studio and we filmed a few videos with them. We got another one coming up in a
couple of weeks. And we've been talking about how can they deliver these cars at this price
point? And it turns out the answer is they don't make any money. Yep. So BWAD has very much
kicked this off. Their best position to handle a price war fundamentally of the Chinese EVs,
but the Chinese government has stepped in to intervene in specific cases to prop up some manufacturers
that were going out of business as a result of this because they were burning too much money.
BYD has gained market share as a result. But they are
basically predicting at some point this will have to end. There'll have to be consolidation.
There'll have to be fewer manufacturers. That might also mean less innovation, might in the future
mean higher prices if this level of pricing is not sustainable. Now, in the short term, go ahead.
Is BYD, so is the implication that BYD is intentionally trying to undercut automakers to force
them out of, like, is this like an anti-competitive thing? Is that kind of what's being said?
No. So this is somebody from BYD saying this is not going to be
sustainable. And their stock price has taken a little bit of a hit as their profits have really
gone down because their profit marginary shares. The point kind of is that the big winner is going to be
able to kind of steal. Right? Because if B.D can kind of get ahead of this and like outlasts
smaller companies that can't wait and not make as much money. Okay. Interesting. It's sort of like a
monopoly situation. Yeah. It's also led to a situation where BYD and some others are investing heavily in
markets outside of China because fundamentally they need to to make enough money per vehicle.
They can certainly charge a little bit more in other markets where there is in that same level
of price competition.
But it'll be interesting to see what happens.
What was that?
In the Jakarta market?
Yeah, yeah, for example.
No, I really meant Europe, but the Jakarta market certainly major for them as well.
It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Chinese EVs have taken over market share in China dramatically.
They've really increased EV adoption.
The low prices have certainly helped that.
If it's not sustainable, where does that go?
It becomes a real question.
Yeah, and this is surprising neither of us because we've spent time in these cars.
And they're such excellent cars, and it's like, how are they delivered at this price point?
And that's an interesting thing.
And it makes some sense.
We'll see.
Maybe the Americans aren't as far behind the Chinese as we thought.
No, we are.
Well, our cars can't float yet, so there's that.
That's true.
Our cars can't float, nor can they jump.
Talk to LBJ about that.
Do you remember that Forest?
Forrest did a video.
Is everybody here watching Forrest?
Of course.
You saw the course video where the car jumps?
Yes.
I have not seen that one.
Do the thing.
It's an amazing video.
You need to watch this.
You haven't seen this, Filippo?
He went to China and did the jumping car.
He's in China with the jumping car.
You got to see it.
I will watch it.
Forest auto reviews.
We're shouting him out today.
He's our sponsor.
No, he's actually not.
But we like him.
All right, move on to our last news story, please.
Here at this car pod, we're friends on
and off camera. One of the best parts of our week, every week, is our group car dinner. It's a
tradition we never miss. And this we sponsor, Cash App, has made the one awkward part of the
night splitting the bill so much easier. Because let's be honest, splitting the bill used to suck.
Everyone pulling out their wallets, trying to do the math while the waiter hovers, arguing over
who's going to pay. It was always weirdly stressful. But once we all got on Cash App, everything changed.
Now one of us just picks up the tab, sends out the requests, and boom, everyone pays before.
before we hit the road. No awkward I use. No, I'll get you next time. Just clean, quick, and done.
And you can send payments down to the penny. We're always making dumb little challenges. Like,
Kenan, I'll pay you $3.17 if you parallel park in one try. With cash app, I can, I haven't,
but I can literally send exactly $3.17 cents on the spot. It's instant, it's specific,
and honestly, it just makes stuff more fun. They've also got built-in protections. If something
looks off like you're about to send money to the wrong person, the wrong Kenan Rulson,
cash app will give you a heads up. It's like your money's got a personal bodyguard.
If, for whatever reason, you don't already have cash app, go download it now. Sign up,
enter our code car pod, C-A-R-P-O-D in your profile, send $5 to a friend and you'll get $10
just for getting started. For a limited time only, new cash app users can use our
exclusive code to earn some additional cash. For real, there's no catch. Just download cash app and

That's money. That's cash app.
Yes, shipping cars.
Now, Doug, you've shipped quite a few cars
across the country. It's something that
we all have to deal with at some point in other. And we actually
run an auction. I only buy cars located within a mile.
That's right. Philippa doesn't buy cars that aren't located
at the end of his street. But we've run an
auction company that deals with a lot of shipping of
And recently, there has been some concern in the news that shipping cars has become kind of dangerous.
There is a crime ring that was recently shut down about a month ago.
There were 12 people involved that were shipping cars out of the country, that were intercepting cars and shipping out of the country.
And so I got in contact with our shipping partner, Powell, P.A.L. to talk about this because I was curious about it.
Most of the time, the cars being targeted are very high dollar value cars, like McLaren's, they're Uruis, like a very high in SUV as well.
Like, that sort of thing is what's being targeted.
And they told me that all of the top shippers in the country have actually come together over this issue
and have actually independently formed their own counsel to keep an eye on top of things.
And they've run into, like, a couple of different scams that are coming out.
One is, like, the lucky guest scam where, like, someone will actually just go to a dealer and say,
I'm here to pick up a car.
They've seen listed either, like, and like, having worked at a dealership, I know how this works.
So they're like, all right, it's sold, give the keys, it's gone.
They don't care.
They got their money.
They're done.
are shockingly available at car dealership.
Shockingly available.
So one way around that, of course,
is dealers can verify the information of the ship.
I've seen some stuff at car dealers,
and I know that happens to be a spot this tough.
Hacking is also something that has happened,
but they've gotten credentials to people's accounts
for various boards,
and they're able to sort of mess around with things
and change locations of where cars are going.
That's pretty common.
Part stealing is another one where a car will get picked up.
They'll steal parts off of it and deliver it,
and the parts are just missing from the car,
which is kind of weird.
And then ransom situations where there's like some confusing, like they might put a shipper will put out a rate that seems good.
You'll select that.
They'll take it and then they'll hold your car for ransom.
So, wow.
So Powell has been mitigating this by their background research on people is unbelievable.
Before you can like be a shipper that works for them.
It's incredible.
Now, the documentation can be faked, but they, the systems they're using to pick up the slightest inconsistency between pieces of documentation is extreme.
I was shocked at how deep they go.
But even if you change something within a certain period of time, like an address,
or even like just like you change like a period in something for an abbreviation,
they pick it up and it's flagged in their system.
Like they're that level of detailed with stuff.
And they're also verifying like IP addresses of where stuff is being submitted from.
Is it consistent throughout that?
They're looking for, they're monitoring people like DOT numbers and all of this stuff.
So they've been doing a ton of that stuff.
They've also, whenever they a car of this ilk is being shipped,
they flag it in their system to extra scrutinize everything that goes on around it.
And having delivered a number of cars that been picked up at the Cars and Bids Office for the shipper,
they send me all of the information of here's what the vehicle looks like.
Here's the person's name.
Here's their DOT number.
Verify all of that.
Before you release the cars,
I've done all that stuff directly from them,
which has been really useful.
They're also working on more like GPS stuff on like tracking cars so you can see as a person who has a car that like,
okay, here's exactly where it is.
In the past, Doug and I have done a really great act,
which has put an air.
tag in your car that's being shipped and that is wonderful because it's kind of fun you can see it
yeah it's kind of cool let your driver know yeah let your driver know exactly uh and they've been so
they've been doing a lot of work around mitigating that unfortunately the request for people who do
have their car stolen is difficult the cars move pretty fast and once they're gone they're usually
exported pretty quickly usually going for the eastern block of europe or in africa the typical
places these cars get sold to but the point that pal made is they're cutting it off early and so far in
their time, they have not experienced a single car that has been stolen during their shipping
free, which is, again, I'm very happy that we're partners with them. But it is fascinating to me
that this is galvanized an entire industry that kind of struggles with shipping. It's not
necessarily the most pleasant part of selling a car, but the really great actors within that
business are really focused on eliminating this issue. And they're doing, to my understanding,
like, they're doing a great job. They have conferences about this. They all stay in touch. They
They have a database of bad actors.
They know where the bad people are.
So, like, if you go through one of these reputable companies to ship it
and we make it very easy in cars and permits to do so,
like, it really mitigates a substantial amount of that concern.
That's good to know.
Interesting.
That's good info.
Interesting.
I have been a little concerned about that.
We've been hearing more and more reports of, you know, whatever it is hacking or the
car gets sent to someone picks it up and takes it to wherever.
It's a lot of—you do have to be careful.
And my understanding, it's a lot of the person who's shipping the car,
doing your own due diligence.
like making sure like just check the basic things and like communicate with the shipping company like
it's it's pretty easy to do and you'd be surprised at the small steps you can take to avoid this
happening to you it's when you just sort of do things in a blazay way that you get into trouble
and it certainly happens maybe i mean i think some of these people try to they do as much diligence
as they know to do but i think the point of this is like do more like i don't think that everybody
who's gotten scam so far has been blazay or negligent but i think um now that we know that this is
going on especially it's important
important to be like particularly on top of both dealers and private sellers you have to you just have to be
careful and we'll say yeah i was part of setting up our agreement with with patler our shipping partner in cars
but shipping as like as an entity and how i did a bunch of research and like insurance and what kind of
things need to do and it's complicated we made a really big point working working with pal to make sure that
kind of every shipment was insured to the level it needed to be but that's not true of like if you just
go out and book shipping through any like the larger dealers shipping broker
sites, it's complicated.
And none of it makes that much sense.
And I can very much imagine that if you bit impacted,
every person is pointing you to somebody else to actually get your restitution to figure
out who's liable.
It becomes a real nightmare.
It becomes confusing.
Yeah.
And a lot of shippers will get something and then they'll send out to a subcontractor,
which Powell violates their print of use and they don't allow that to happen.
And so, yeah, it becomes hard to keep track of who actually dealt with my car.
Yeah.
Use cards to be just shipping.
They're great because of the steps that they're taking here.
but it's been a wild sorted watch.
Exactly.
I'm not just saying that because we're part of it.
Actually, getting to talk to their team and they walk me through what they're doing.
I was genuinely very impressed.
Someone who's worked in this industry for almost a decade now.
It's been a wild story.
It was in the news again this week, just why we're talking about it,
for a couple of cars stolen from dealerships.
Transion between dealerships and those dealers are fighting amongst themselves
and how to figure out who did something wrong to get to that point because it's a crazy story.
Start with the salesman who is just like, yep, get this thing out here.
That's probably where it's definitely.
We got to move on to our next segment, which is the talk car segment.
In this segment, what do we do, Filippo?
We talk about...
Bears?
No.
You could use an education, it sounds like.
The talk car segment is brought to you by the hats that are behind me.
Now, I want to tell you a little story.
Our producer, his name is Sean.
He is a bad G-wagon, a bad colored.
He, I think he still has it.
He doesn't like that the hats are behind me.
comment your opinions below.
Can we do something about the hats?
He says,
hey, can we, can we get those hats out of there?
What about the sweatshirts, Sean?
Have you made any comments about the elephant or no?
Is the elephant okay?
I think he's okay with the elephant because it's whimsical,
and I don't think he thinks the hats are whimsical.
I think he thinks I'm recording this in a closet, which is true.
Okay, I don't have any talk cars,
but Felipe wants to tell us about his experience
with a Chevy Suburban,
It will be simulating.
It will.
Thank you.
Last week, I drove from D.C. to Cape Cod.
We were with some friends.
And so I needed to rent a car to do that drive.
Because we're going one way.
And I was traveling with my wife and a friend and that friend's two children, two young children.
So I knew it had a lot of stuff.
So I did the rational thing and went to book a car to rent.
And I wanted a minivan.
But I'm me.
And renting an executive SUV or premium SUV or whatever they called it was $100.
cheaper.
So that's what I did.
Oh, wow.
You're kidding.
That's why this happened?
Yeah, that's why this happened.
I really wanted a Chrysler Pacifica,
but instead I ended up with a Chevy Suburban Z-71.
A brand-new Chevy Suburban Z-71 had like 2,000 miles on it.
Before you get into a suburban thing, can we talk about why you like the Pacifica so much
relative to the other vans?
It's a great many of it.
Oh, no, no.
To be clear, it's not the best vans.
Just the only van that I expect at a rental car company.
Okay, but you have previously said that like if your dream car is like a plug-in,
Pacifica. It's the only one that's a plug-in hybrid. It's the only mini-van plug-in hybrid.
Yeah, but the Siena's like a real hybrid, and the plug-in Pacificas are all, they're all
causing, and have all sorts of problems.
That's the reason I don't own one. But it's still the best one. It's so good. It's such
a good automobile. I've had many rental Chrysler Pacificas, and they're all great.
I went on a trip recently, had a Pacifica S. It was actually very good, and our producer
talked about its great chassis dynamics on the race track. Yeah, there you. Not what I expected to hear.
Every automotive filmmaker has a lot.
hustled a Chrysler Pacifico round a racetrack.
And they all love it, truly.
And Felipe's a track guy.
And I'm a track guy now.
Get back to the suburban.
All right.
So I drove the Z-701 Suburban all up Interstate 95 throughout the Northeast.
And it was great.
The new one has like a full wrap-around screen.
It's quite good.
Huge carplay.
It's so big.
And it was also the quietest vehicle I've driven in a long time.
Like the noise isolation they've done, it has been notable.
I haven't driven, like, a new car in a while.
I don't do new cars, except for, I guess, GTI is not that old.
But, like, I haven't driven, like, a large new SUV.
But it was quieter than my Mercedes wagon, which truly surprised me.
And it's really fixed a lot of, like, the old SUV problems.
The ride was still a little tough, especially where large bumps.
It's a huge vehicle that's made to toe and haul things.
So the ride empty is a little tough.
I mean, ultimately, it's a body frame truck.
But it was much better than I expect.
truly notably better than I expected in every way.
So I get why people buy them.
The Sequoia is still better.
I don't know that that's true.
We compared notes.
And the Sequoia probably got like a mile or two per gallon better than the suburban.
The suburban is gigantic and not hybrid.
It depends on what you're looking for.
But ultimately, I'm looking for resale value and reliability.
And I think that a lot of people who buy suburbans aren't.
And I think if you're not, the suburban is probably better.
And honestly, I feel that way about most.
Toyota trucks and SUVs.
There are better options than almost every single one of them in less
resale value and reliability are what you're thinking about.
Do people have issues with Suburban?
It's been the same motor for 100 years.
Whether or not people have issues, the market feels that they do and will and punishes
them heavily in terms of resale value.
And use Suburban's versus Use Toyota Trucks.
It's not even like a question.
And plus like just from your experience, I mean, look at look at the interior of a 10-year-old
suburban.
Yeah, it was tough.
Stuff just wears faster and worse.
I love General Motors.
I've had many Cadillac CTSVs.
Many.
One.
Two.
Two.
Yeah, first gen.
But I, General Motors just, the level quality just quite, isn't quite there compared to, in terms of durability.
That's fair.
The screen is cool.
The pink screen is cool and all that.
But like the seats, the foam, why do we know what the inner,
foam looks like of General Motor Seats, but we all
do. We all do.
We know it's so well. I've also said
the cruise control was mediocre. It was
adaptive cruise control without lane keep. It was
a little questionable.
But it was such a good vehicle. It makes, I've
always wanted a GMT-800
suburban, and I still, I wanted
more now as a result of my new suburban
experience. God.
Didn't I call him a raging
liberal the other day, I guess I'm wrong.
All right. Kennedy, he's
combating it. Well, while Felipe got to drive his
dream vehicle of a suburban. I got to drive a Ferrari
599. So recently
I went to New Orleans, so we were to sell a couple of cars with us, and one of the
cars I got to drive was a Ferrari 599.
Now, I've always been kind of curious about this car, so I've never
really driven one. I spent some time in a GTO, but I don't really count it.
It's not long enough anyway. The 599
to me was mind-blowing for a number of reasons.
One was that I expected the transmission to be terrible, and it
wasn't. Even at low speed, I drove it around New Orleans,
which is not a car-friendly place in the slightest.
The least car-friendly big city in America, I think.
I would agree with Boston's pretty fun.
No, no.
New Orleans has worse roads, though.
I don't know.
It was close.
It was close, I felt.
But it, it, the, so, like, ride-wise, handled everything just fine.
Really?
It scraped only one, like, I very briefly went just a little bit, but other than that, it was fine.
cleared everything just fine.
The transmission and a lot of stopping good traffic, actually pretty seamless.
It didn't, like, didn't jutter, nothing like that.
Remember, that is the last iteration of F-1.
Second.
the last, yes. The 5th, the GTO got a different, but it was, but by, to your point, by then,
they had really figured it out. And I, and then, but then I got to use it on the open road a little bit.
We crossed, uh, the longest continuous bridge of water in the world, uh, which is the Lake Pontchartrain,
um, causeway. It's, it's 23.87 miles long. It's a lot of water. 875, it's long. Let me tell you,
but I got to experience the 5.9, a little bit, squeeze the file a little bit. My God. Like that engine,
it's like detonating a bomb.
Like it just the way, it just builds power and you are gone.
I was astonished.
You talk about the, uh,
could the Pacifica keep up?
No, these are passing shots of the Pacifica.
But it, it astonished me and like the quality of the interior was nice.
This one is a driver, really clear.
It has miles on it.
It doesn't have a perfect ownership history, like a title history, like something like that.
It's not perfect.
But it's the one you want and it drove brilliantly.
I was stunned at how good it was.
And then I started looking at the values of 599s.
they're kind of in like the one
you know like in the 130s for like
a pretty decent one like
it is so much car
considering 550's cost so much more
575's cost not that much like less
like about the same and this is a
612 horsepower
Enzov12 derived like Ferrari
that actually drive is actually
usable it was like a revelation
when I see a 599
for whatever reason
I see one and I think that it's sort of like a
connoisseur's car more than an F12 is
An F12, I think, is still in that period where people are buying them to flex.
And I think 599s have sort of aged into a sort of more vintage sort of look and feel in line.
I agree.
I was actually, we were on Bourbon Street.
We actually came across with Starada, which is like the perfect, like exotic car to use in New Orleans.
Yeah, for New Orleans.
And I thought about seeing this versus that.
It's like, this shows so much taste.
Like, it is so.
It's a very tasteful car.
I remember when it came out, people criticize it because it looked like a Corvette or a Viper.
But I think it's aged quite well.
I go move around the exterior.
with those pictures there.
Yeah, you know, it's like, I understand in photographs,
you might not feel the way about Filippa,
but in person it has such present.
Yeah, look at that.
It's such a present.
And also, you don't like how these look?
No, I mean, my main comment about it being worth $130,000-ish,
like for $599 is that that's what it happens when a Ferrari isn't beautiful.
Oh, give me out.
You're out of your mind.
You think that's not a beautiful car.
Look at that.
It's a great looking.
I don't think it's a good car.
You are out of your mind.
That is the craziest thing I've ever heard you say.
I'm willing to say a lot of Ferraris aren't beautiful.
that is not one of them.
That is the,
he's over here talking about
he wants a Pacifica and a suburban.
Get him off the pod.
Get Nick up in here.
Nick would support me on this.
I also found out,
you know,
you like me,
associate these cars
with being large
as one of the reasons
why they're difficult to use.
It's actually only four inches
longer than the 550,
one inch wider.
It's actually pretty similarly size.
I don't think that they're,
I think they're very,
very adept cars.
I don't consider them to be large.
The 612 is large,
but even that is a pretty skillful
an athletic car. I don't think these are large.
I think these drive really well. I think they're very balanced.
Like very, very, very balanced.
Okay, I totally agree with that. And I found the
suspension, like, could be soft or it could be
hard because it's magnetic and it adjusts.
And, like, now, granted, I know reliability of
all Ferraris is tough and their expensive cars
to maintain. But nonetheless, like, the buy-in is so
low. What does a stick-one cost? Can I
get a stick-one? It's about $800,000.
I mean, yeah.
But to your point, manual conversions exist.
So if you bought one for $130 or, like, this car,
like we'll be, which is a driver, did the manual conversion, let's say it cost you 40.
Your drive, you're click, clacking.
This episode of this car pod is brought to you by Acre Gold.
Now, you all know that I'm all about finding value, whether it's a pristine 964 911 or
an immaculate E46M3.
But let's talk about a different kind of asset.
Acre gold.
Inflation's hitting harder than a V12 at Red Line.
Gas, car parts, even car washes are through the roof.
Acre gold lets you to.
invest in real 24-carat gold bars for just a few bucks a day.
It's like buying a classic car that rusts.
No finance degree needed, just pure shiny gold delivered to you.
Go to getacregold.com.
Protect your money, keep it golden.
That's getacregold.com.
Can I tell you something about the manual conversion thing?
Now that Nick has gone down this journey, I am just sketched out by the whole thing.
Like, I'm sure there are non-sketchy actors.
but there are also a lot of sketchy actors.
And I just think the whole thing is sketchy.
Like, I'm, I'm anxious about the whole thing.
If there's someone, can someone just exist in a bonded, licensed place with, like, good lighting that is like, has a logo that is doing these?
Instead of, like, exist via Instagram, DM where they use the word should of.
Like, I just, I simply want someone to be good and then I'm not.
But aren't you a little sketched out by the manual conversion process?
Would you said a $130,000 a car?
Nick's experience seemed great.
He got it back yesterday.
I'm excited to hear him talk about it.
But I think part of my point, though, is like Nick had a good experience.
Some people don't.
And the roulette of it is what sketches me out.
I think, like, if I could just trust that there were great people out there, I'd be thrilled.
I think my way I would do that if it were my car is, like, I would love to have the kit sent to a, like, a shop that I trust.
Why do I even trust the kit is, I guess what I'm saying?
Like, it's still made by sketchy people.
Is it not?
I don't know.
I don't know.
If the components work and they make a kit that can be applied by, like, people can install it, then,
no, I'm not that worried about it.
But to your point, if the person disappears, like, they just decide to, like, no longer do business
and they delete their Instagram account and you need components, well.
I'm going to tell you something totally ridiculous right now.
I would rather buy one that's already converted because I don't want to know.
You don't want to know.
And even though I know that I could buy a car, send it off, get it converted.
I would rather just not know who did it, what the story was, what the deal with the conversion was.
It's already done.
It happened.
And now I got the car.
That's what I was.
Eyes wide shut, if you will.
Yes.
Yeah.
I think you've got a point there.
But you love the 599.
I love it.
I think it's a bargain.
One of the great bargains of the car industry today.
And I think anybody buying a 575 is making a mistake, considering they can get this for not that much more.
I couldn't agree with you more.
and I truly don't think this last.
They didn't end up building that many of these cars
because when it came out,
it came out right in the heart of the recession.
But the thing with these cars is, you know,
they are mostly F1,
and I think that is what has suppressed their values,
but people don't realize,
to say the 360 tip,
this is like a much better system
that I actually kind of enjoyed using, to be honest with you.
That's true.
Also, don't forget about the production of this car.
And I think the thing that one thing that makes the 599
a lot more special than people agree,
it was the only front engine V-12 Ferrari
that doesn't have a pair, right?
Yes, I've made that.
The 512 TR and the F512M are paired.
The 515 and the 575 are paired, and the F12 are paired.
They're basically the same car, just a modified version.
Oh, that's true of all the cars I just mentioned.
The only one that got its own world was the 599.
So there isn't like a second one that it's always being compared against.
There isn't a second one that looks similar.
It was the only, like, car that doesn't have like a twin pair in the V12 world.
And so its production numbers don't have to be added to the, like, if you have the 550,
you're thinking about, well, there's also the 570.
manuals and the Super Americas and the barquette is.
599 was just 599.
That was the whole production run, and then they moved on to a totally different production.
So to me, that makes the car even more special.
I just look at production numbers.
There's only 3,600 of them.
So it's rare than a 4GT, 05.
Yeah, that's really something to think about.
And it's rare than mercy.
That's crazy.
So, I don't know.
I suspect these won't be underappreciated forever.
I suspect that one day we'll see them rise.
I also, though, I have a suspicion.
A lot of them are going to become manual converted.
Yeah, because it just makes, it livens up.
Maybe not, but that's what people seem to want.
Like, Philippa wouldn't have one if it was a tip.
I do only buy manual cars, so.
Yeah, except for automatic.
Right, yeah.
I've owned one automatic car to station wagon never avail of the stick.
This is why I can't get an automatic because I'll get flamed like this.
I've only owned one automatic car, yeah.
And he's owned zero?
Well, he's only owned like three cars ever.
It doesn't sound.
I own more manuals than both of you combined.
Yes, my percentage is higher.
My batting percentage is.
Yeah. Okay. Are you going to buy one?
Do we move on to the market report?
Before we do, you filmed a video with that 599.
So it's going to be on the Cars and Bith channel.
Yes.
Yes. There's another one in another car I'll talk about next week.
Okay.
We're excited to see them on the Cars and Bid channel.
It's time for the Market Report.
Now, I'm told that the market report is brought to by Cars and Bids.
That's the business that we are in some senses promoting here.
I'm not really sure about it all.
I do want to say one thing.
I do want to say one thing about the market report.
I don't really do a lot of promoting of cars and bids on this podcast because I'm not really sure.
Like, it's on my channel.
Is it a cars and bids podcast?
Nobody seems to have any idea.
But I want to talk about the NSX.
Can you pull up the NSX?
I want to,
I want to toot the cars and bids horn here a little because I don't like to shil for stuff unless it's one of our sponsors who we love dearly.
I don't have to shulfer stuff.
But cars and bids are business.
And I very rarely do this, but I want to talk about this NSX.
Okay. So the NSX type S, the one that just that we just sold for 222, all right, that car, a couple of months ago, that seller had it on our site on Cars and Bids.com. And he tried to sell it and it was bid to 225 and it was a no sale. And then the seller was like, you know what, screw these cars and Bits people. I'm going to take it to the other site. So we took it to a different auction site, one of the more popular ones, you know, and it goes bid to a significantly lower amount. Then he took it to a different.
an auction site and it was been to a significantly
even lower amount in the 100s.
Now we're 30 grand back of where it got on cars
and bids. Those are the two big other auction
sites. They both had a much
lower result. He brought it then
after cursing the cars and bids people,
he brought it back to cars and bids where we then
delivered the next best result after his first
cars and bids result and he sold a car.
The point I want to make here is
that's pretty legit.
And I don't, I truly, I don't spend
a lot of time on this podcast tooting the cars and bids
horn and I often make fun of Filippo for doing
so. But I am
quite proud of this. And we
have seen this before. We and
anybody who's paying attention is aware
that this is already happening in some
segments of the market. But
I'm really proud to see it on a low production,
high dollar, low volume,
very special supercar like this NSX
type S that ends up bringing its two
best results on cars and bids after
bad results in the other places.
And just a happy little
thing to
brag about for cars and bids.
Yeah, I'm proud.
I'm not at all surprised.
Like, we saw very legit stuff.
And so, although I, we, and like you said, we've seen this happen many times.
On average, it's true.
And it's like, well, I mean, dealers who are paying attention have become very aware of which cars to sell which places.
Yeah, absolutely.
It has some real advantages in terms of sale price for certain cars.
But I think that this proves like we can go get them on the real stuff.
Let's, let's do it.
Let's do a McLaren F1.
Oh, please.
God.
I'll take an F40.
Let's start with an F40.
Nobody sells F40s.
There was a big F40 swap.
Here's a market report for you.
You want to hear a market report?
There was a big F40 swap, swaparuni, and then they don't sell anymore.
And Kenon, you know what Filippo told me?
He blew my mind and ruined my whole life.
Because I'm like not not looking for an F40.
Like, I still dream of the day that Joe Sacky texts me and tells me he's found an F40 for me.
Even though I made fun of him on Ferris podcast and he won't talk to me anymore.
Like, I still dream a lot of it.
that day. Like, my money is...
What he calls us, hey, I've got a high mileage hit
cat adjust car that's got your name
all over there. I want, and I'm going to be really
clear. I want a cat adjust car, but it's like non-cat,
not adjusts. Like, that's like the thing. I want to
give me a cat, give me an adjustment, give me
another cat. Throw on as many cats
as you can and put on as much adjustment as you
can do. Anyway,
but you know what... Only have 40 people
understand what you say. You know what Felipe
reminded me of, Kenan?
That car is tariff
now. That car is
tariff now because none of these cars are in the state so I was always looking for a foreign import
and that car is tariff now and so if it's it's a 10% tariff right on cars 25 so so so see might as
let's even if I could find one for a million five that's a that's a that's a 375 400,000 dollar
tariff boom F40 dream is dead Trump killed it people out there keep that in mind what are you
got to look at all right? Real consumer connection here way to keep that point local to people
way to bring it back down to earth
It will be interesting to see whether
I assume nobody's importing cars at the moment
Of that caliber
It'll be interesting to see if and once tariffs ease up
As deals are made if tariffs go away entirely
Whether there's like a sudden influx of those cars
It will be interesting to see how other auctions too
Like especially this summer as auctions cute
We're inching closer to Monterey week
I'm very excited about
But curious to see like what
How that impacts
Those guys didn't sell a lot of stuff that was titled in foreign countries
They don't, they usually the cars are, they keep the cars where they are.
Because transport costs are high, because nobody wants to deal with paperwork and stuff.
Last year, one of them, one of the big ones, think R.M sold an F40 that was titled in Germany.
I remember that.
It's rare, though.
It is.
I got into a good argument about F40s recently.
Oh, God, goodness.
I think we can pause there.
Somebody, somebody on Instagram had posted a thing about how your blue F40 may be more worth than your red one.
I was like, and I responded that was cat, absolutely.
categorically not true, which I have the market down.
It's Instagram rage bait. Don't get on the Instagram.
I know, but I thought I wanted to post something very, an actual coherent Instagram
response from a human being, which I did.
And I didn't. And I'm right. And when I was looking, we were offered painted cars.
That was pretty much all I was looking at, actually, because of my budget.
And we basically, we were offered a lot of painted cars, a green one and this and that.
And you just don't. I mean, to set it back to being right is so hard because even just to
repaint it red is really difficult
and a lot of places can't get it right. It's not thin enough
for the weave. It's really hard.
We were, it was generally, I was told
the budget 50,000 to get it painted back to
right. I think that's light. I think that's
light to be honest with you. If it's a full
color change. Well, hey man, this was
this was three and a half years ago. This was before all the
Biden inflation or the Trumpflation or whatever.
Flipeflict inflation. Ruin my ability
to import an F40, folks.
He has come after the wealthy.
You also realize on top of the
tariffs, three years
ago when you were looking, a dollar and a euro were about on par. Now a dollar is as, as, as,
as a, to equal one euro, you're a dollar 15. So it's also like a 15% increase there.
So was that better or worse? Worse. The, the, the F40 dream is dead for you, man.
It is dead. Like, straight up dead. Sorry. It is like legit, dead. What about the pound?
I have not compared to currencies where it's a you're not getting, what F40 are you importing?
Well, F40's all left and drive. So if they're in the UK, it's okay. That's fair.
I will also say, apparently, the UK and the U.S. have are on the verge or have signed a trade deal, which means 10% tariffs on vehicles.
10% is still too high, dude.
Yeah.
That's too much.
I need to go back to three like it was pre-Trump.
Biden gave me three points on an F-40.
Give me that back.
Feed me.
Okay, give us our next week, whatever market report.
It's over, though.
I legit think it's over.
I legit think it's like over, over.
I don't think there's any F-40 happening anymore.
I think that the F-40s that are in the market as a possible cost.
car for me and other buyers are all already in the U.S.
I don't think there's going to be any cross coming F40s for years.
Between the currency and between the currency and between the only reason they were coming
is because the euro had gotten cheap and that's gone and the tariffs.
It's over.
Like F40, F40 market.
We've got a finite number of cars and they're in the States.
Again, super useful consumer advice.
But speaking of F40, can I talk about F-type?
You sure may.
He's over here, waxing poetic about 599s and he doesn't want to talk about F-types.
I'm not giving consumer advice here.
We're having a podcast.
I'm pivoting the F-type R.
So we recently sold this one for 29,000.
Okay, to be fair, this one also had a rebuild title.
And 46,000 miles off.
But if you look at the price of F-type R's, now that's a, what, 550 horsepower
supercharged V8, two-door, beautiful-looking coup.
Yep.
They are trading hands in the like mid-to-high 30s with frequency.
That is an appealing car.
I'm with that price segment.
I think that is a...
Now, the pops and crackles of V8 does are a lot.
It's fine.
Worth it.
But I think that it is...
I mean, that's a special car.
I mean, look at this, Felipe.
For 36 G's...
Look at that car.
That is a special-looking car.
The F-type looks incredible.
550 horsepower, 5-liter Superturt V8 is no joke.
I'm into it.
I want one.
Would you get a coupé or a convertible?
I think you want a coupé.
I think you want a coupé to be a little shielded from the back.
firing that this
because it is extreme.
When do you think
Burbiltunes?
I know Farrah
recently talked about
this, but like
that car really like
took, that was
Burble Tune and
all caps with an
exclamation mark on it.
We have so loud stuff.
We have one
different F type R's
pretty much.
We have one live
right now, actually.
Yep.
We have on like
cons fine.
It's actually
going to be a cheapie
with some miles on it
like that.
It's such a gorgeous
car, especially in a color.
It just looks so good.
I will also know,
not ours,
but base trims
were available
with a manual
briefly. And you can also get
briefly, we sold one or two
maybe, you could get a convertible
with a manual. Now, someone pointed this out
to me because they tagged me in a community about this.
And one of the things I found
they made the point that, well, the manual
should technically made up. The engine block
is the same between the V6 and the V8. Remember,
they just blanked out those cylinders, which is the weirdest thing
I've ever heard. But in theory,
it shouldn't be that different. I wonder
if anybody's tried that.
I don't know.
V8 with a manual would be incredible.
But it's a sub-40 for 550 horsepower and like a beautiful car is a deal.
It's pretty appealing.
If I had to choose between the V8 and this stick, I'd probably choose the V8.
I think I would.
Yeah.
I don't think it's a good manual either, by all accounts.
I've driven in both.
The manual's fine, but the power train is not inspired.
And the V8 is so legit.
It's got so much power.
And that little car, I mean, those cars are like the size of a Miata.
They look so good.
And it's so loud and roll.
Right. Well set. Good impression.
I know.
I do. And I legitimately kind of won't.
It's one of the rare automatic sports cars I'd consider.
Well, if you live at the end of Filippo Street and you have an FI bar, he'll buy it.
Okay.
Nobody loves to mind on the street does.
Questions, this is big, because the questions are brought to you by the sweatshirts behind me.
Now, I want to be clear.
Sean only mentioned the hats.
He only told me to get rid of the hats.
The sweatshirts can stay, people.
and not only that, they are our sponsor for this segment, for God's sake.
So we should be nicer to them.
These sweatshirt—
Why are you like this?
These sweatshirts were free gifts seven years ago at the fishing and tackle store, okay?
So have some respect.
What do we do to you?
10 o'clock, 2 o'clock.
Oh, wow.
There's a fishing tip from Kennet.
Hey, yeah.
All right, what are the questions?
The questions. Now the questions, remember, you can ask us questions. You go to carsendbids.com. You click on the community tab. There will be a post there that says, ask us questions. You can ask us whatever you want. We're going to choose the questions. We pick and choose the questions. If you ask us a question that is inappropriate, we will probably choose it. If you ask us a question that is mild, we will not choose it. I like questions that make Felipeau squirm. People have been asking us rank the questions. Ask Felipe to rank U.S. senators. Oh, man. It'd be great.
So first question today comes from cringe.
I'll take a while.
There's 100.
Top three, Felipe.
Give us your top three.
Nah, we'll move on.
First question, can we make Nick a regular on the show?
You know, I'm glad we got this question because I want to talk about this.
Cringe McRingle wants us to get rid of one of us.
Let me.
Goodbye.
Can I tell you all how Felipe got started doing this podcast?
One day we said,
we're going to do a podcast.
And since you're in the office,
you have to participate.
That's exactly what happened.
I guess I have an hour today.
That's exactly what happened.
You are.
Now we're the largest automotive podcast in the world,
Filippo.
Do you understand that?
Yeah.
I forget about that.
We're just chatting, but we're reporting on hard-hitting stuff
like Cuomo's Challenger, Charger.
I have not seen that news anywhere,
and it needed to be shown to the world.
It's shown to the world.
hopefully we put up a picture of it. Somebody took a picture the other day. It's parked in a bike lane.
So anyway, the point is, with regards to Nick, Nick has a show on the Cars and Bids YouTube channel.
You've got to go to Cars and Bids YouTube channel, and you can watch Nick and his insanity.
And if you want to see insane Nick, that's where you go. And otherwise, we will try to get them on as much as we can.
Okay. I can't get rid of, who am I going to get rid of, Kenan? Filippo. It's like trying to choose between my children.
Oh, thanks. I like being around. I would choose you, Kenan.
I mean, not to get rid of.
I would choose you to keep.
I read the tonality there.
I get in you're dead.
Sorry, buddy.
Nick will also obviously show up often.
Nick has great stuff.
I love Nick too, and I watch his YouTube videos, and I sit there thinking, this person is
even more insane than I realized.
Like, I don't see the videos until they go live like you guys do, and I'm watching the
videos.
You guys have this experience?
Do you watch the Nick videos?
Oh, I watched them, like you said, I know him well, I like to think.
And also, imagine what hits the cutting room floor, the stuff that doesn't make it at all.
Oh, my God. I didn't think about that.
We should start a Patreon and just put clips of that in there.
If we can see Nick for him.
We will get canceled.
Did you see the clip the other day?
Kevin pointed this out where Nick is like filming the shortlists, but because he's in the reflection of his car,
he's such an idiot.
Oh, Nick.
Everybody needs a Nick.
Everybody needs a Nick.
Like, put on a shirt.
You're filming.
Like, this is not...
Yeah.
Oh, Nick.
All right.
Now is Nick's only fan's content.
All right.
Next question from SB 58.
Hey, Doug, Kennan, and Felipe,
in the early podcasts,
you discussed certain cars.
It would be owned by someone
who is coming to fire your dad.
What is the modern version
of the fire your dad vehicle?
I don't know.
Flying Spare?
Yeah, I mean, it's still...
True. To me, to me it was a car that was like so rich person that they didn't care that the car was bad, which was why the Arnage was, you know, like that the Arnage was bought by somebody who had better options, but they were so rich that they didn't even want to listen to what the salesperson had to say, you know, and there's not a lot of cars like that out there anymore.
Model X plaid. No, nobody with a Model X plaid is firing anybody. They're right in code.
Who is bad? I don't know. The modern day seven series is a pretty good.
one. That's kind of like a in like
a dark color. Is there
a V12 still?
I don't think so. There's a
760 but I can't remember if it actually
V12. I don't think it is.
No, there's only a six cylinder
or a twin turbo VA.
Okay. But even so like
I know it's not the prettiest car.
But like when that pulls, that's intimidating
is the point. And depreciation is
so dramatic. I agree. I agree. Only in the
top trim. Only in the top trim.
Only the top trim. I bet.
Tega.
I don't think so.
That's not quite enough.
Oh,
S-Cost is Mibok.
S-5-80?
Yeah, the Mibok
S-Claast the S-680.
S-6-80.
Although I have the 5-80 also in the M-Bak.
My-Bak version.
I mean, a Phantom is kind of the obvious answer,
but even then, I think that,
I feel like that's more like rapper entertainer
than like, I am so rich that I bought your town
and I've bought your house,
and now you must drink from my aisle.
What about a Maserati Grimmis?
Tarismo. A new
Grand Turismo. If you bought a
new Grand Tourismo, it means that you yourself
were fired for poor
financials. Or you're about
to be. Yeah.
I like the brand itself.
If you bought a new Grand Tourism, it means that another recession
is coming. If you start seeing those around, it's like,
oh God. Brace. Money must be cheap
again. I don't know.
I think it's
one of the high-end German sedan.
I think it's a German stag. I think that my
bike S class is the closest we can get.
Yeah.
Next question from EVs and clutch pedals.
What's the craziest deal a buyer has ever gotten on cars and bits?
Like what no reserve car sold for the lowest percent of what the cars and bids team or community thought it was worth.
Now, this question was asked and then a lot of people were like, they'll never answer.
I want to be clear.
One of the, probably the biggest drawback of running this business, at least for me, you guys can tell me your thoughts,
is that everybody comes to me thinking that I know every single data point in the car market.
People come up to me and they're like, hey, I got an 1840.
35-eye convertible with 60,000 miles
and a clean car fax, what's it worth?
And I'm like, I don't know.
I don't remember.
I don't have them all in my mind.
And that's true of this question, too.
There probably are cars that have sold for less than they should have,
but I don't.
Because we're starting to approach.
You tell me.
We're close to 30,000 cars.
I'm trying to think about this.
Because like, I don't know.
Often there are cars where, like,
the cars that I think go cheapest
are usually ones where they need something.
and somebody's willing to do that something.
And like for them it's a deal, but for other bidders, it's not, like, all the cars are getting all the attention.
Like, it's people actively, it's not that they're going under the radar.
It's people actively deciding it's not, I don't want to spend more for it.
But like for somebody it's a deal.
That's a good, that's a good point.
And I don't have any specifics, but you could probably find them.
Another good example is cars that have been modified in a very specific way where the sellers put a lot of money into them and then they don't sell for that much.
and there's certainly a contingent of people who are like,
that's such a deal because it has a lot of good parts on it.
But at the same time, it's like a thousand horsepower race car with a parachute,
and you're like, well, that's pretty small.
That's a pretty small subset.
Those are probably the cars that will sometimes sell for less money than people think they're worth.
But I would always argue, like, this site has hundreds of thousands of users and gets millions of hits.
The things are don't just kind of happen like that.
What they sell for, you know?
Okay, we sold a C-32 AMG.
that I remember this.
That was two and a half years ago,
but I remember the car distinctly.
That sold for like two grand.
But it had issues and it was in Canada.
And it had like Canada issues like.
I do remember this car.
But that still feels like a deal for a very cool car.
Yeah.
But I went back two and a half years to what comes to mind.
You know what else?
You know what else sometimes sells cheap that I'm surprised by is really good survivor cars.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Like type in, go to that Saturn S.
We sold last, last week.
maybe earlier this week.
I don't think these cars sell undeservedly cheap.
I want to be really, really clear about this.
Like, I don't think cars and bids is getting less money than they're worth.
I don't think there's a huge market out there for people looking for a Saturn S.C2.
But it is surprising to me sometimes that are really well-preserved, like Carolla,
won't bring more than 11 grand.
And you think about the amount of use, you could get that, even if your plan was just to use it as a used car.
And you think, like, this is probably a pretty good deal.
But I don't feel that that this Saturn selling for $4,000 is below market.
but it strikes me that it's below what I would think a car this nice would bring.
Right.
Right.
Despite the fact that $4,000 now gets you a lot of different things.
There are cars where like maybe if I were in the market, I would have paid that amount.
But it's rather I would have paid more.
Yeah.
Okay.
Go go to a 1989 Ford E350 Centurion van truck.
What?
E350 with a dash.
Oh, of course.
E3 of the dash, Kenon.
What do you do?
I said 99.
I meant 89.
I apologize.
Right.
I'm the idiot over here.
Van truck market.
All right.
That by pure metal alone feels like it's worth more than $4.
It's like a lot of sheetwork.
She metal there.
You joke.
You joke, but larger vehicles, I swear, bring more money just because of their physical
capabilities.
Like if it's that big, it can probably do something for someone that makes it worth more than
4 grand.
Right.
That's my thing.
Do I want that?
No.
Would I pay more than 4 grand?
No.
cool? Could it be worth
that to somebody? Apparently not, but maybe.
Somebody in the Midwest who has property and doesn't
care about the size of that wants that vehicle
and got a great deal at $4,000.
That's what they call it. I'm going out to the property this weekend.
Of course. It failed Pennsylvania inspection.
Of course it does. And it doesn't have an exhaust.
And nobody observes about any of that stuff.
There's welding residue
on the windows.
I don't see that as an issue. I think that's true
of every 89 vehicle.
There seems like a lot of a lot of car for the money.
Van truck.
Next question from V12 stick.
Richard Hammond was notorious for being a motorcycle guy as well as a car guy.
Can any of you ride a motorcycle?
If so, what do you ride?
I am uninterested in any forms of transportation aside from cars.
I don't care about boats.
People always trying to get me into planes.
Like, oh, what did you ride on to get here?
I'm like, a plane.
I've never even thought about the concept of what it is.
Yeah, but you know if you got on an A380 and it's a double-decker or 747.
Like, you know that's like it.
Yeah, dude, if I got her to a fighter jet, I would know of a fighter jet.
I get on a propeller plane.
I don't have any concept.
People like, oh, did you take that?
There's not a 737?
Dude, I have gotten on planes.
I'm not exaggerate.
I've got on planes and not known what airline I was flying.
That has happened before to me.
And they come on and they're like, thanks for Flying United.
And I was like, I swear to God, this was a jet blue flight.
If you asked me.
And you'll feel, yeah, you are probably the most agnostic airline person I know,
with the exception of Air Canada.
You're like that, which I agree.
It's the worst airline in the world.
Airlines, airlines I'm agnostic on, but even the plane.
So I don't get into anything.
I don't get into motorcycles.
I actually think if I was going to get into any other form of vehicle, it would be motorcycles.
I occasionally will find myself looking at one and thinking, hmm, but they scare me, to be perfectly honest, which I think is realistic.
Filippo, are you, you ride.
I ride motorcycles on rare occasions, gone on rides with some, like, in-laws and family members,
both like some like off road more offroading in forest roads and around Arizona it's fun i don't
it's not a passion yeah right then i i i like i like old motorcycles my grandfather has
1931 indian one-on-one b scout that he's had since he was i think 14 my cousin restored it
and i haven't i've just like pooled around on that bike to just like kind of just like coasted down
the but i loved it because it's so balanced and everything it's a trail bike that's what it's for
but the reality of riding a motorcycle in the modern world especially in california
people are so distracted. It makes me like very, very, very nervous.
Like I just, I don't really have any desire to do it. I love those pre-war bikes, but I'm just,
it's not something that I can get into.
And the pre-war bikes.
Yeah, but I have respect for them and I appreciate them.
Okay, next question, and this one is from Dobby 17.
Can you go to the questions, Kenan, from this week, because there's a graphic that goes along with
this.
Dobby 17 says, do you think if the E-ray was branded as a Cadillac,
just do control left from Dobi.
What do you say?
Do you say 512 BBI?
Doby.
DobBI.
Somebody has 512.000.
Got on one.
He says, click on that picture.
The one on the left.
It's really good.
Do you think if the ERA was branded as a Cadillac,
it would be a good halo car for the brand,
took styling cues in the race car,
including the bumpstart feature we all love.
Obviously, that's ridiculous.
But what if it looked like this?
Now, they tried this,
Felipe, you recall.
The XLR, of course.
They tried this with the XLR.
which was a failure, however, its used values have been pretty strong.
It's the same as a C6 value.
XLRVs are expensive.
Yeah, that's true.
There's so few, though.
Wait, go back to the picture.
I want to see it.
It was beautiful.
Dobby had, look at this.
Filippo, look at this picture.
I like the gray skies.
It's very Detroit.
It feels right.
It feels very Midwestern.
Julie got it.
Nailed it.
You know, I've never thought about this question.
Should the E.R.
have been a catalog.
honestly, yes.
It should have.
That's a good point.
It really should have.
I think they would do it again because they went down this road and there's people
have a short memory.
But like, it's a, that is a good looking car.
And I don't know.
I also feel like the ERA has been overshadowed in the Corvette lineup.
It's like from a performance standpoint, it's not that dissimilar from its DO6.
It's been massively overshadowed by that.
It turns out Corvette buyers don't necessarily want a hybrid, uh,
Power train, which is a shame because I think it's a really cool power train and really cool car.
Maybe splitting it off to a separate brand would have actually drawn, given it the attention to deserved.
Maybe.
And I mean, Cadillac does want to focus on being more sporty generally.
And they have a lot of EVs.
And like, maybe that's a connection point.
I think they should have.
Good idea, Dobby 17.
It's not a bad idea.
Now, they did try it and it didn't work.
It should be pointed out.
It's also really costly to redesign a car and like have it be a full severed.
Cadillac had done this.
They enter Formula One.
And then for the American Grand Prix, the Miami Grand Prix,
the Austin Grand Prix in Vegas,
they had that as a pace car.
Damn.
Also, Felipe said it's really costly to redesign a car.
Dude, Ferrari does all these one-offs,
and it's no problem.
Eric Clapton did it.
Eric Clapton can redesign a car.
And Cadillac can't.
General Motors doesn't have the winner to redesign a car.
Eric Clapton's up in here redesigning a car.
All right.
Also, to be fair,
they have that, that Cadillac,
whatever it's called,
that nobody remember.
the Salis-Tique, so they could have
thought something that is. You don't remember the
Celestique? Dude, that's the car of the year here. Everybody's talking
about Celestique, Celestique. Yeah, all 350 grand
that they cost. Maybe they're making
six of them and you can't buy one. Okay.
And none of them are sold.
Last question. This is the last
question. It comes from S. Como
98 and he says, why does Sean
hate your hats? Great question.
Sean, these hats shielding from the sun.
God. No, the question.
is what's what's the perfect two-door car with back seats for a cross-country road trip?
And then he has a picture.
Go to the, are you in the thing still?
The question thing?
He has a picture.
He did a cross-country road trip in like a 911.
Look at that.
Click on that.
Oh, that's pretty good while base.
Yeah.
You know what disappoints me about this picture?
Go back to the back picture.
He does his cross-country road trip in this very special car and he just has the regular Texas license plate.
Like you're going to be showing your car to the world here, sir.
you have to at least get the one that says
T is for Texas.
You're the only person in the world who would ever
criticize him for that. I think it's
badass. Pull up the T is for Texas license plate
while we discussed this.
All right. So first thoughts
here. Nileven, great choice.
I think that this purpose
opens up cars that are not a
manual transmission car. Look on that. You didn't
think it was real, did you, Kenon? But there is an
actual license plate that says T
for Texas. It makes no
sense. You thought this
wasn't going to be real, but it is.
Well, shoot.
Oh, man.
That's so accurate.
Okay, Felipe, go ahead.
All right, so I think that for cross-country road trip, you can, it doesn't have to be a manual,
which for my other, like, carp needs, kind of does.
Like, if you want a 2 plus 2 with a manual, 9-11 is kind of your choice.
It's kind of it, realistically.
But if you, it doesn't need to be a manual.
I don't know.
How high is the ceiling here?
Brooklyn sounds pretty nice for a cross-country road trip.
That's a, that's got a rear seat.
Yeah, what was two-door car with a receipts?
I mean, Continental?
He didn't say sports car.
Sports car. It does not have to be a sports car.
Oh.
I think that a Ranger were a vocational convertible.
Oh, my God.
Two-doors.
No, that's a tinny little thing, that four-cylinder is going to be stressed on the highway all
the time.
The slab of old England is a good idea.
Kenon, imagine driving to all the national parks in a Brooklyn's with the T for Texas license plate.
you'd have to have it all.
You'd be slowing up to fire the fathers of all the bears.
You'd be there to sell eBay there to buy some real estate.
Oh, kind of bear.
Yeah, yeah.
They're going to, BLM's going to sell 2 million acres.
This guy's buying.
That's right.
This magnet is buying.
The problem when that car is reliable.
Reliative.
The Continental GT is a pretty good answer.
Yeah.
The Astin Martin, the new Vanquish, I think, is a pretty good choice.
Or any Vanquish, really?
Or any Aston, really?
Well, wait, he says it has to have back seats.
Does the vanquish not?
What Ferrari is have rear seats?
Just like the 612 and the Luso and the FF and all then.
Yeah.
A GTC4 Luso or a 612, both good options.
Yes.
What about a Kennon, what about a GTC4 Luso V12?
Because with the gate is not enough power for a road truck.
Agreed.
Right.
And I, yeah, exactly.
I'm not concerned with fuel economy.
I'm concerned with how it pulls on the highway.
And this would be.
And it's practical.
It is.
GTC4Luso.
I actually think that is a really great one.
And unlike the 612, that does have
cruise control.
Oh.
So they were.
And you know what?
You know what?
Philippa, we'd get that car and you know what?
We'd register it in Texas and we'd get the T for Texas.
We sure would.
Done.
Yep.
And that is our podcast for today.
Kenan, do you have any parting thoughts?
Buy more V12s.
599, Luso.
More V12.
Hard to argue that.
Kuntash.
Mitt's got his mercy back.
We'll get some sort of update at some point, I hope.
Can't wait.
Can I see it tonight.
We're very excited.
Oh, damn.
With that shiny, shiny thing.
We will see you guys in a week, and remember, ask us questions.
Cars and Bids.com, the community tab, and also download the app, and do all sorts of other
cars and bids related things.
This is the best pod we've ever done.
Best we've ever done.

Goodbye.
