Oh, and welcome to another episode of This CarPod.
I'm Philippa. I'm Kenan. I'm Ryan.
Doug is not here this week.
If you're sad about that, email Sean at cars and bits.com.
If you're thrilled about that, email Sean at carsambits.com.
But let's do the news.
All right.
We dive right in with the news, and we're going to start with Hennessy.
So Hennessy is releasing an incredibly cool car.
Here are the headline figures, okay?
Naturally aspirated V8.
Great.
Rear wheel drive.
Cool.
Gated six-speed manual.
Nice.
Awesome.
Now, if you're an enthusiast, those are like, that's what you want.
That's what you want.
That's actually the three things you want.
That's what you want.
However, in this car, it looks awesome that this is not a rendering.
No, it's real. It's real. It's real. It's real.
Does one exist yet?
That one.
Well, the car exists, but the figures don't, because everything is projected.
In theory, it's projected to have between 800 to 850 horsepower.
It's allegedly it's going to have a red line at 9,000 RPM.
And the development team is targeting a dry weight of less than 3,000 pounds.
Look, okay, I have no issue.
This is a small manufacturer.
They're based in Texas.
They have not had time to drive across the state to the one dino that's in Dallas.
And they just don't know yet.
You're telling me John Hennessy doesn't have a dino in his living room.
Come on.
They're just not ready.
No, I know this.
But it is exciting nonetheless.
On the inside, it has like no screens.
They've removed the screens completely.
So it's all analog stuff.
It's all switches, which is exciting.
Now, allegedly, they're, oh, it's called the Blackbird, by way.
I should mention that.
They're only going to produce 71 units.
They're going to be allegedly $2.5 a million a piece before taxes.
But I got to say, like, you know, hats off to Hennessy.
Like, they're building what we, what they should be building.
If you're a small volume manufacturer, you don't have to deal with, you know, all the things.
You have to produce an electric card off the ball, blah, blah, build cool stuff like this.
This is really exciting.
So how much is the Venom, F5?
I don't know.
It's about, isn't it also like $2 million?
I think it is.
I think so, right?
Right.
And you can get the one with all the arrow and everything else and makes it more expensive.
And they're, so they're wrapping a production of that car in 2028.
They're saying this car is going to come out and $1.
29.
God, so it's like a replacement.
It's not alongside it in the lineup.
No, this is the next car.
Hennessee only has so much time.
They've got to build all the Dodge Ram,
thousand horsepower things.
Hell yeah,
the Yukon, Hennessy, H-P-E, 1000 pack.
Yeah.
And then they can only have time for one supercar at a time.
I mean, yeah.
Yeah.
Which is fair.
This is so cool.
By the way, they're claiming two and a half seconds zero to 60 time
is what they're targeting for it,
which is very impressive with a manual.
Again, targeting.
The amount of power you need and the ability
to put it down in a manual transmission car to get to that.
220 mile per hour top speed,
which is impressive from a gearing perspective with six years.
Well, if this works out, if they hit their projections,
which is Flipo's all about hitting projections.
Credit to Hennessy.
When they put out a power number and a zero to 60 number, they hit it.
Well, there are a couple ways that you also make first gear just really long,
so you're only one gear to hit 60.
I think that's what you have to do.
I think you kind of have to.
But also, but if they do this, this will be the most powerful.
natural aspirated car, I believe, ever,
at 850 naturally aspirated
horsepower. And it will also
be, if it does hit
that speed, I think that would make it the fastest
natural aspirated, because McLaren F1
could do 241 miles an hour.
So we'll see.
If they hit their projections,
regardless, yeah. So it won't
quite be there, but nonetheless, it is a really
promising car. It looks great.
I love the things in the back, which
look like an SR 71. Yeah.
Why they're making 71 of them, because, obviously,
They could have made 12 and done the A12, but I don't know.
There's a lot of Blackbird lore kind of floating around the supercar world.
And they didn't just have a Blackbird edition like Zinger.
They didn't have a Blackbird edition like other manufacturers.
The car is called the Blackbird.
Will it drive like one?
Will it come in the pressure suit?
One's a plane.
One is the coolest thing that humans have ever made.
And this could be a close second.
A couple of other things I want to know.
They're making this purposely more comfortable than the Venom F5, right?
That's like a top speed car.
This will have four cup holders.
I did see that.
That's a very American thing.
Oh, I rode.
More American guy than John.
I rode in a Hennessy Venom F5.
Yeah.
And Steve Hamilton's friend of the pod, of course.
And there was no cup holder.
And so my water bottle, whenever he would floor it,
would go back on my lap.
And then he would break and it would go fly and hit the, you know, you could hold on to it.
I think I was holding on for my dear life.
Oh, fair.
Because he turned on like some like high boost mode,
and it was like 18,800 horsepower.
or something insane.
You heard of hands?
I was holding on for dear life.
But the water bottle was banging underneath my seat,
and it was just a really crazy time.
But this is a different thing altogether.
800 horsepower, naturally aspirated,
get it manual, like, it looks awesome.
It's so cool.
I love that they're doing this,
and also they will actually likely come out with it.
Some other manufacturers are all vaporware,
Aspercal.
This seems real, and it's very cool.
I look forward to seeing it in hopefully a couple of years.
Quail undoubtedly is where it will be unveiled.
If they don't have the rolling chassis there already for this year.
They had an unveiling, which surprised me, because I really thought it was going to be a Monterey car week, which is next week event thing.
But clearly they wanted to bleed the new cycle.
They don't want to get lost in the other things that we expect to be revealed there.
Kind of fair, honestly.
You know, jump the gun and then have it there.
That's what you want.
I was really manual.
Yeah, it's everything.
Love it.
Absolutely love it.
The rear, by the way, it looks incredible.
It looks incredible.
You should Google it.
Okay.
You should Google it.
You're just saying that to everybody, everybody,
Everybody should Google it.
Yeah, yeah.
All right.
Hennessy Blackbird.
All right, let's see what the rear of this car looks like.
Wow, dang.
Yeah.
Holy crap.
It does not look really cool.
Look at the exhaust.
Look at the little...
It looks like a weapon is...
A cannon's being pointed at you because you're a lesser vehicle.
The Blackbird was never equipped with guns, so you're not too far off.
That's right.
Yeah.
There was one CIA development project that they had it with guns and missiles, and it never really took off.
And they also had the D-21, but anyways, we'll get back to the card.
We're so on the cusp of becoming a point.
becoming a plane and train podcast this week.
I know that you're a train guy.
You know you're a plane guy.
But let's actually stick to cars
that especially electric pickup trucks instead.
Okay, yeah, moving on to the next two story.
Nice smooth transition there from Philippa.
Thank you.
Yesterday, Ford revealed the name of their new pickup truck.
We've been calling it the UEV,
which is a universal EV platform,
which is Ford's new EV project.
They've really tried to make the case
that this is a like fully ground up
new skunk work style projects to develop their new EV platform.
There's a pickup truck.
We finally know the name and we know the pricing.
This is going to be the Ford Fathom.
The what?
Fathom.
Fathom.
Fathom.
I can't fathom how much it costs.
You can't fathom how great it is.
Or a length equal to six feet, depending on the definition you prefer.
You have a phantom?
Can we speculate on if this will actually come to the U.S.?
Yes, no, no.
I think it's entirely built for the U.S.
It looks like a Mexico market car.
It is, they are very proud of the fact that the front and rear seats have the cargo space of a RAT 4.
Or sorry, have like the passenger space of a RAT 4.
It's like a bed.
It's kind of a Maverick-sized roughly.
Yeah, it looks like a minivan.
This is a U.S. market vehicle developed for the U.S. market.
It's Maverick-like passenger compartment space for somewhere to a R-4.
It's actually larger than a R-F-4, and then a bed.
They are pre-orders in 2027 and early 2027 deliveries in the second half of 2027 is my understanding.
And starting MSRP for the standard range of battery will be $28,350, which is within $100, $200 of the Maverick MSRP.
Is this what they're putting out to compete with the slate and trucks like that?
Yeah, I think they've realized that they need to have affordable EVs.
Right now they only have the Machi and the Ford Lightning is dead for 26.
which was their F-150-based truck.
So this is their play.
I think they think that they need their EVs to be more affordable.
Under $30,000 is an incredibly impressive feat for any electric car.
Who's buying an EV Ford truck under $30,000?
We'll find out in about middle of 2027.
All seven people are going to buy this.
I think there's a real market for this, right?
You have, and I think Ford would say, you have all the benefits of a regular crossover.
You have the space, you have the technology, it has car play.
and Android Auto.
It's integrated with Apple Maps.
It has Blue Cruise,
which is their adaptive crews.
It's available with that.
And then you have the practicality of a bed.
The Maverick has sold really well,
which is fundamentally the same concept.
How many people are taking long Maverick road trips?
200 to 300 miles of range is probably enough.
That's probably...
For 30 grand?
That's a deal.
I think you're right as long as people evaluate how they...
Most people, like we've talked about this before,
most people can fit an EV into life.
If they actually evaluate how they use the car.
Yeah.
And like, I think in this car,
I can see this and...
A lot of these ending up in suburbia and, like, you know, it's kind of like perfect for that.
I get the play, right?
Like, you've got to go a little bit.
They're Ford Lightning.
It turns out that full-sized pickup truck owners, there's a limited set.
And also, they couldn't get the pricing to work.
Starting sub-30 is an incredibly impressive feat.
The Nissan Leaf might start sub-30, but that's the only one that I can think of.
Now, sale price is different.
The Nissan Leaf starts at 29-9-90.
I'd rather have this.
Yeah, definitely.
I can't imagine a single thing the Nissan Leaf does better than this.
The new leaf looks pretty.
I can't imagine a single thing that Leaf does better.
This is like from a pricing standpoint.
Incredibly competitive.
Between the ball emoji wrap, you can't really see what this thing looks like.
No.
I have, they've been testing it.
The development of this is in Long Beach, I think.
So the Otopian took some video in a parking lot of Long Beach.
David Trace in the back of that shot.
Shout up to them.
So it's around, I have not seen any leaks of final designs.
The shape is very, what's the Hyundai truck?
Is it the Santa Cruz?
Santa Cruz.
avalanche, like all those are weird.
Are you aware that the Maverick exists?
I feel like you don't know that the Maverick.
I am aware of the Maverick looks like a little truck.
You sold some.
This looks like a chubby little truck van thing.
All right, so a Maverick looks like a little truck.
Yeah, not that one.
I think they look somewhat similar.
I'm going to be honest.
If they made an EV Maverick and it looked like that, it would sell.
I think it would look pretty similar.
Why they're doing something called a Fathom with a goofy name and it looks like that,
I don't know, totally different bottom line.
The fathom are trying to make it cool.
Yeah, because the name makes it cool.
Hey, a bit Mustang Maki, man.
No, let's answer it.
I will tell you why they called it the fathom.
It was a nine-month naming journey, and the fathom capability is undeniable,
but there's more to the product than appear to the eye.
This is verbatim.
The word fathom itself has a layered quality we wanted.
Long before it meant depth, fathom described the span of a person's outreached arms,
roughly six feet.
Okay, all right, anyways, back to it.
Why are we talking about this and not the more interesting Ford story,
which is a four-door internal combustion Mustang could happen?
There is likely to be a four-door internal combustion Mustang.
This is more exciting because this could be a real consumer-y-dict.
It's Filippa story.
This is more exciting to-Hilipo.
This is the one I get this week.
This is the only one.
Because Doug isn't here to shoot down your stories,
so the audience gets full, unfiltered Filippa.
This is real news.
An EV, especially one that has actual cargo space and a bed for under 30K is
real news. So you're buying it?
At that price point, that's more
the price point I'm more comfortable with, so yes.
You've got a Ford truck? I'm interested. Yeah. I'm interested.
All right, well, let's kill us with some gasoline. So the next car
is the copperhead.
Now, Dodge, the name
Copperhead, of course, I think of it, of course, I think of Dodge Viper.
There was a Copperhead edition. It was orange.
This is not that.
Forgeon? Forcedon? Forgeon. Forge. It was third gen.
It was third gen. Yeah. It was.
It was.
It was. This is not that, but Stalantis is bringing back
the name Copperhead as like,
the head of their SRT,
bringing back SRT,
this is going to be their halo car.
Now,
they wanted to make it abundantly clear.
This does not replace the Viper,
and I'm pretty confident
it's not going to have a V-10.
You can't.
That's exactly right,
but you can't replace the Viper.
We definitely didn't change it dramatically
between every generation.
Hey, man,
all our manuals,
all our NAV-10s,
all are rear-wheel drive.
What are you?
This thing is...
Read a book.
Read a book.
This car,
it's going to be really cool.
Now, there's a lot of speculation.
There are no real confirmed details on this card.
Naturally, this is going to be a dark horse, you know, competitor.
Oh, you think so?
Okay.
That's what a lot of people are saying.
It's like a halo car, but that's not much of a halo.
No.
No, I personally, actually, this is what I read.
I think maybe this is going to end up being more like a GTD competitor.
But I'm not, we're not sure where pricing lands, right,
and exactly like how sophisticated stuff is with it.
We do surmise.
I would imagine this is going to use some version of the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that was like,
that they've put in a lot of cars.
I could see it maybe being like the almost 800 horsepower woman was in the demon.
I mean, why not?
But however, they have said that there's unlikely they're going to use a hybrid V8 setup
because they said a spokesperson for that was quoted as saying,
let's just say it's like putting E motors in a car is like having an 8 track in a car.
It's not going to age well.
And it's which I thought was a great.
They're not wrong.
Quite a statement because, boy, is that date exactly who they're talking to it?
Yeah.
But, you know, I'm here for it.
I, like, naturally, like, the car they're going to have to use is the electrical.
They're going to recycle a lot of parts of that.
Apparently, it's not based on the charger at all.
So it was shown at Salinas's Investor Day, and it looks vaguely like a charger, but it's not based on the platform.
That's right.
My mistake.
What they have, a lot of people have speculated, it's like, maybe they're trying to use some Maserati underpinnings.
Oh, interesting.
Because, like, the Grand Tourism hasn't sold as well, which would make sense because they got, I'll be honest.
Which would kind of make sense if they're looking for a cost-effective way to make a new car, like, with existing.
platforms they already have. That would be cool. But nonetheless, like, I'm here for them making
this thing more American performance cars. I'm really here for it. Now, here's the question.
Oh, gosh. Two questions. One, will it be manual? No. No, of course. Okay. They didn't even
set it, but let me tell you. Yeah. I'm just getting ahead of the head of the curve because people
are going to see this and be like, is it going to be manual? And okay, we're getting ahead of it.
And then number two, Tim Kineskas, who's in charge of S.R. T. is like a true car guy by all the
He's also the one who made the A-track comment, which is a right, right, which is very sense.
But he's also like a ram truck guy, so, you know.
Yeah, yeah, fair.
So the SRT-10 ram truck could come back.
Anyways, will it look like this at all?
We're basically there, by the way.
This is just a rendering.
No, I mean, you got Super in the roof here.
Side pipe.
Hilarious side pipe.
But they have shown, like, start to the design.
Apparently does look sort of like a charger.
Hmm.
The new charger or the good charger?
I'm fine with that.
The new charger, whether that's a good charger,
Gerald deferred others.
Fair enough.
Fair enough.
But I don't know.
Exciting stuff, we'll see exactly what they come out with.
And I don't know.
I like the snake names.
I think Python would be cool.
Water moccasin as a car would be cool.
Copperhead is cool.
Rattlesnake.
We get in the moccasin.
Yeah.
There was Momba, right?
Yeah, Momba.
There was a couple others.
Snake Skin GTC, apparently.
Oh.
I don't remember that one.
Me neither.
That was a fifth gen one, so nobody cared.
Oh.
Hey, the fifth gen's great.
I will take no viper slander.
ACR extreme is the best one.
As a convertible driver, I wear sunglasses pretty much year-round.
And for the longest time, I've accepted a certain amount of annoyance with them.
You start moving, a run, a bike, a spirited drive, and they slide down your nose.
You've adjusted them constantly, or they just come off entirely, or maybe they even fog up.
I figured that was just the trade-off.
Then I started wearing Warby Parker Sport.
And what I appreciate is they don't look like performance eyewear.
They're not that competing in the low.
Olympics look. They look like normal, well-designed sunglasses. But the upgrades are where it counts.
A nose-slip, nose pads so they stay put when you're sweating, a wrap-around design that widens your
field of vision, and contrast-enhancing lenses that keep things sharp when you're moving.
They black 100% of UV, they're polarized, scratch-resistant, and more. I've worn mine hiking
on long walks, and they just stay where they're supposed to be. And Warby does more than sport.

I'll do our next story from there.
Portia.
So let's be Philippa.
So last week I said, or two weeks ago, I said that it's likely that the electric 718 would not be coming out.
Or the 718 in general might be dead.
Apparently, no.
They can't figure out their own messaging here.
Apparently, it will be coming.
There will be an electric box during Cayman alongside a gas-powered boxering camden.
Okay.
Production expected, 2027, expected to be revealed later in 2026.
We've done the story in every iteration of them.
They're doing it.
They're not doing it.
They're adding a gas one.
They're getting rid of the electric one.
They're getting rid of all of them.
getting rid of some of them.
And now, apparently we have confirmation from the CEO, Michael, later, is that it is still
live.
And I think that we should stop the conversation there.
Anything we say will be overruled by their different PR person next week.
They're listening to this and they're saying, oh, they're saying it's not coming.
We have to then change your stance and have it come out.
Yeah.
And the poor team, they must be like, can you make a decision?
Are we building this car or not?
But they should just call the stuff on a whiplash at this point.
Like, she's all over the place.
Oh, that's good.
Nice.
That's good, Kenon.
Did you have that one primed up?
Locked and loaded, baby.
It's just all, I mean, yeah, exactly.
We've told the story in every iteration.
I get what they're doing it, by the way.
I think they're in a position where they can't.
I think they have to.
Not.
From the perspective of money, they just need to get the vehicles out.
What he said was with the Electric 718, we came to the conclusion that we'll build the model
because it's the best solution economically and will be a fantastic car.
Now, they've invested too much or they need to recoup some of the R&D costs.
I will also say in Europe, which I suspect is the target market for that car,
58% of the cars in the first half of this year were electrified, so plug-in hybrid-hybrid-e-vee.
And about a third of the cars they sold in 2025 in Europe were fully electric.
And so there's a little bit more of a market.
For that, they can probably recoup some of their development costs.
Now, I have a couple questions here.
Please.
We have no answers.
We talked about the, yeah, no answers.
We talked about the luce coming out, and there's a really, they basically, the guidance was that they created it to fit into some guideline
because they have to produce an EV for whatever, whatever.
And this could be what Porsche is doing,
but they already have the TACON.
They have the McCann EV thing.
And the Kyan EV thing.
And they have likely, they're too far gone to not produce this.
They put too much money into it to produce it.
But when you think about a sports car EV,
what would it compete with at a lower level?
There's nothing to compete with.
There will be an I4 convertible coming out.
Yeah, but that's not.
That is the first like convertible EV that's not the time.
Tesla Roadster that I can think of.
Because you talk about the Tesla Roadster, the new roadster,
which will never come out.
And then you look at the Ramak.
Rematts.
Ramatz.
That doesn't count because it's $2,000.
And then we look at the Chinese cars, which are really good.
Like the MG Speedster, that Doug reviewed.
Not the MG Speedster.
Every other car, but the MG Speedster.
I like that.
I saw what in Italy look cool in the road, too.
There are cool Chinese EV sports cars,
and this basically has nothing to compete with.
Yeah.
I think what it is more than anything is, like,
if a company is going
to build a good EV sports car.
Porsche has the best shot at doing it.
I'm very curious to see what it's like,
and I will be more interested on the secondary market
and what sells for one third of its MSRP.
But that's all...
I mean, keep in mind, the 718 is a four-cylinder,
except for the special ones.
And the special ones have retained value.
The GTS 4.0, the GT4,
all the ones that are actual,
the spider, even,
because those have naturally aspirated flat-sixes.
The four-cylinder ones appreciate it.
The PDK-4tholular cars appreciate.
What can you get one of those four these days?
It's still a fair amount of money
that MSRPs are not more than you can afford, pal.
40s.
For like a modern Porsche, it's not bad.
The EV, I truly think that what happened,
there's a very cynical take,
but I truly think that what happened is that they wanted to kill it
because they thought it'd be bad for the brand.
But Volkswagen and Porsche are in a position
where they need to preserve, like they can't
they can't write off more projects.
They need to sell cars.
And so I think that the accounting team was like,
absolutely not.
You got to recoup some of the development costs here.
They're splitting it with Audi, I assume,
with their Audi TT recreation.
And so they just need to get a car to market.
And so financials won out over brand building.
And they are giving us gas one anyway.
So it's like, I feel much better about that.
The Ferrari Luce got so much flack deservedly so because it was such a weird.
They're sold out for the year.
Yeah, all 88 cars.
Yeah.
No, no, no, they're sold out not just in China.
They have orders for the full year.
Right.
I tried to see how many orders have been fulfilled.
What they haven't said is that for every other model,
they have orders when they're revealed for.
multiple years.
Yeah.
There's a wait list.
That's exactly right.
By the way,
can I talk about the Kyan Turbo?
We haven't talked about the Kionturb.
We haven't talked about the Kion and EV Turbo.
Enough.
Have you seen any videos of the Kian and EV Turbo?
No.
It is wild.
It is 2.1 seconds 060.
That's crazy.
For a large five-passenger SUV.
Didn't the Model X do that 10 seconds?
So 150 months per hour.
It's faster that thing than applied.
And it's the fastest SUV that anybody's tested.
You can watch Drag Race's Carvouse.
great ones and it is just absurdly fast.
I'll check it out.
Absurdly fast.
That car I'm actually kind of, I'm excited about that car because like, I think any
EV SUV does make more sense.
You can fill a lot of battery back and the weight's not really a big concern.
It doesn't more sense.
But the sense of going 2.1 or 0 to 16, 2.1.
You want to guess what the quarter mile time is?
And they're independent testing?
9.8.
9.5.
Okay.
That's pretty quick.
You want a 10 second car?
No, I got your 9 second car and it's a SUV.
And these are cars that regularly people can buy with no experience, and they're out there just peeling around fashion island.
That's all cars.
Yeah, yeah.
Good Lord.
But admittedly, just a little more accessible.
All right.
Moving on to the next news story.
Oh, Aston Martins.
Okay.
Ryan, this is news just for you speaking indeed of that.
Okay.
All right.
There are five new special edition Ashton Martin's.
One for each model in the lineup.
And they are colors that are taken from prior special Aston Martins.
Oh, yeah.
They will also only be.
at Ashton Martin of Newport Beach.
But it is nevertheless, it's like built by them and Q by Ashton Martin together.
I assume that Newport Beach, by the way, is they're like biggest dealership.
Oh, it is.
The only dealership I think all of California was selling DBXs.
It was Astin Martin, Newport Beach.
Yeah.
They move inventory.
So far they built these five.
I don't know how many where they're building.
This is unclear.
But would you like to know all the colors?
Yeah.
Yes.
The DB12 Volante, which is that one.
How sure are we?
That's the advantage.
This is the DB12.
Yeah, that's the DB12.
The Blue 12 is pale primrose, which appeared on the cover of the 1958 DB4 sales brochure.
Oh, interesting.
I feel like there was a version of the VA Vantiers that had it, too.
As far as I know, it only appeared there.
The DB12 Coupe is Pacific Blue, which was introduced in the DB4, 1958, and was also available in the DB5 and DB6.
Oh, it's a good color for DB5.
The Vanquish, this one, has Tudor Green, which is apparently quite popular.
in the 70s.
The Vantage, forgot that got a facelift,
I'll be honest, is Winchester Blue,
which is also from the 70s.
And the Vantage Roadster,
on the far right of that picture,
is Mink Silver,
which is somewhere between silver and pink,
and it's from the DB6.
That's a nice color.
And so they really went back
to the 50s for all these colors.
I mean, I like it.
I like it.
But, yeah, it is wild health similar
of the Astin.
We have done more for Asin Martins
and Newport Beach's marketing department
in these two minutes
than they ever dreamed of.
This is like right across from Crystal Cope.
That's exactly the photo.
It was taken.
Keep going, Felipe.
Keep selling them.
Talk about the individual interior appointments and everything else.
No, I'm good.
It's not just special paint.
I thought this is a story that the two of you would appreciate.
I like it.
Why would I appreciate this story?
I love Ascenton.
There we go.
Isn't that what you want your life to be?
A one of one.
Aston Marne Q specific color.
One of one, so they're only making five.
No, actually, it's incredibly unclear to me how many they're making.
They've made one.
How are many they can sell.
They have made one of each one.
but I bet they'll offer more.
By the way, it also says one of five on it.
So maybe they are only making five.
I'm here, but that's probably enough.
I think we've given them way too much time.
So much time.
We're moving on to the next news story.
Ah, yes, this is a good one.
So we're talking about the W-16
because Bugatti recently teased something on Instagram
that the W-16 is going to end up in a new car.
But I thought the W-16 was...
I made Nick kill a story last week.
The W-16 is dead because, yeah, they've been saying that forever,
but they keep building new cars that have a W-16.
Well, it may have been dead last week,
but on the third day, it rose again.
Here it is.
It's the W-16, Jesus?
It's the W-16.
Huh?
It's a W-16, Jesus.
No, but it's God.
Which I actually won in the same way.
Thank you.
But anyway, so it, that was good.
So, yes, the W-16 is...
So, yeah, Bugatti did say they're going to kill off the W-16
in favor of the V-16,
which they developed for the Tobion.
However...
Oh, what a distinction that doesn't matter?
It's a huge deal from engineering.
perspective, but nonetheless, so they're bringing back the W for, which I realize now, this is actually a V.
Oh, no, this is the W16.
They're bringing back the W16 for what appears to be a one-off car, which they've made a couple of these already, right?
They did the Boulillard, they did the FKP homage, which we really love.
And they're going to do this again.
Now, they've teased a couple of things.
These are not different cars.
These are paint packages.
They are slightly different.
Now, this one they tease because it says W-16 on the inside, and they showed a picture of the grill, which is much wider.
which looks a little bit more like the Tobion, but it remains to be seen.
I believe we're going to see it next week at Carwick, so I'll let you know.
You'll let me know.
And I know you're in the market for a W-16-powered Bugatti.
But I just think it's funny, they're kind of taking the Pagani approach to this.
Yeah.
Of saying that something is dead and then it's not.
And then saying that it's dead again and it's not again.
And I'm here for that.
Is it a utopia still for sale?
Yes.
They did that one, they did another version of it, which is not what you want.
Thank God the manual remains.
This is Onda still.
still making those.
Yeah, they may be making every time.
They're like car for 30 years.
But nonetheless, I'm here for 16 cylinder power.
So I love the V-16, and I love the W-16 too.
So both of them, I think are cool.
And I don't think, just don't say you're going to kill it.
Just like, just make whatever.
Think of the marketing they've gotten out of every single time they had put out
an Instagram post that says it's dead.
Last one, it's going to be up for auction in Monterey Carle's this week.
Oh, wait.
Also at Monterey Carbree this week, this week, another one.
Maybe they're using the same marketing.
company as Porsche.
It's just, we're killing it, we're not killing it.
We're killing it, not killing it.
I think one is accidental and one is purposeful.
That's also very true.
But that's a brief story of the W16.
Excited to see it next week.
You excited?
For the W16?
It died, but then it came back.
Yeah, you know, I'd like to put one in my drift car and see how it does.
I think it would have some issues.
Clearance?
Clearance is one weight distribution.
It would be between the strut towers.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good Lord.
All right, let's move on to the most important news of the week.
I lied.
there is one more consumer piece of news here.
This is more important than The Fathom?
No, that's why the Fathom was first.
Okay, got it.
This is the Genesis GV-90,
which is a full-size luxury SUV
that Genesis should be revealing soon,
maybe this month being August.
Here's what we know about it.
Apparently, the front seats turn around.
I don't believe that,
but it will be the only carnet segment with coach stores.
There's a reason to have one.
That is cool looking.
It kind of is the reason I think they want people to have one.
Genesis makes great products.
The GV60, GV70, and GV80 are all very appealing.
They haven't come out with a new car in a while.
They made his agree, but it's fun factually accurate.
Well, they came out with the Magma race car, right?
The Magma GV60 was announced like a year and a half ago.
But it's cool.
They're starting to sell them.
But the GV90 will be like a full luxury vehicle.
They're trying to move even more upmarket than they already have.
Coach doors, which is very Rolls-Roycey, could very well help them do the trick.
What's the price point on this?
I will learn more this month.
Actually, sorry, probably part week.
You'll know more more next week.
I'm going to have so much stuff to talk about.
You won't care.
No.
You liked the Genesis concept last year.
I did.
It was cool.
It was really cool.
And this is cool, too.
You know, there are billionaire doors that go up.
The ones that go out like that, where they both are the same?
Trillion of doors or a $100,000.
Yeah.
So your chauffeur can open the door.
That's the difference.
So I'm assuming this would be like a calling in.
Oh, it will not be anywhere.
It'll be much cheaper.
Much cheaper?
Ventiga?
Maybe.
Might be in the...
That's an interesting point.
I would expect Rangeover, by the way.
So, yeah.
In the low to mid-hundredths.
All right.
Well, moving on from this, one last performance car.
New story.
GRGT variance.
There's going to be a targata,
much like we saw with the NSX
and the Supra.
Toyota, instead of making us wait,
you know, two, three years and then having the NSXT
or having the Super Targa,
they're going to give it to us early
with the GRGT.
When you say NSX, you mean the first gen one, not the second gen.
Correct.
Imagine a second gen with a target top?
Well, N-A-1, N-A-2, and then NC1.
Right, third-gen.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Third-gen, all right, give me a break.
It will be called apparently the Aero-Top,
calling back to old J-DM-2.
Okay, the G-RG-G-T,
starting to make the PR rounds a little bit.
It's cool.
So this one is gas power, there's Alexis version that's all electric,
and then there's like a racing version, right?
G-T-3.
Apparently they're only going to make 500 of these,
which is a lower number than I expected.
The arrow.
But that's the same.
No, no, no, of the GRGT regular.
But that's the same as the LFA was.
It's not like Halo car.
They only built 500 of us.
But the LFA was not one of three variants.
The LFA was intended to be like a very special Halo car.
I thought this was going to compete with 9-11.
I thought this is going to compete like the MGGT and 9-11 GT3.
This is supposed to be regular production.
This is supposed to be a normal car.
Apparently they're all going to make 500 of them.
They're making 500.
And they're probably going to do a Maurito edition, a Nurbergring edition.
There's talk of a GR.
Circuit, a track.
Grimmon.
Well, all right, 500 of these.
I don't know what to think about this car.
So journalists in Europe have done some, clearly they did some reveal, seen some footage of it.
I still can't tell if it looks good.
I still can't tell if it will drive well.
I still can't tell anything about it.
And also it's an automatic.
I think it's cool.
I'm eager to see it in person.
Maybe.
Or maybe with a short car.
It's hard to know.
You know, you're a Nilev guy.
I like the long hood, you know.
Listen, as the resident Japanese car guy here, I've got a hot take.
Please.
I don't really like the way it looks.
I think that's that's a hot take.
I think it looks goofy.
That's like a gazpacho level take.
I think it looks.
A what?
Gaspacho level take.
Is that soup?
It's cold soup.
Oh, okay.
I was like, hmm, lunch.
Culture, Ryan.
I thought a joke was good.
I forgot who a matzbole soup guy myself.
I forgot who I was talking to.
I like to get possible.
That's too hot.
That's way too hot.
You know what?
Here's the thing.
I reserve judgment on how it looks
until I see it in person.
Because a lot of the time
the cars don't look as good.
A lot of cars I've said that I don't like
the way it looks and I saw it in person
and I liked it.
So the lutea does not apply.
Is there any ruling now
where you have to create 500 cars
like homologation cars
to go racing?
Is this car going to be campaign?
I think there is a GT3 edition
that, like a G2 version
that will actually be raced.
That might be why, but then if you're doing all the development,
I'm surprised to hear that they're only planning on making $500.
I could also imagine that they're making them purposely limited to, at the very least, gauge demand.
And like, they don't want to be the brand that can't sell their Halo car.
And so limiting demand.
Limiting supply means that they can likely sell $500 and claim that there was strong demand.
Let's hope that there's just, it's 500 first edition models.
And then you can get an normal production model, something more standing.
or something that will be at Toyota of Temecula or whatever.
And then we can see it everywhere.
I find the entire reveal of this to be confusing.
Like, they just, I'm confused.
But we'll see.
I miss the day.
It's just, like, it reminds me of the NC1 NSX.
They teased it forever by the time it got here.
We're also bored of it.
I don't know.
I like when a car is revealed released, like, within a short order.
Like, that's the way it should be.
I get tired of these teas.
It's just like, I think brands think it's good
because they want to get a buzz around.
but like the whole point of getting the buzz is then sell cars.
And if like, I think brands are just dragging it out too much.
And it gets lost in the media and none of us care after a while.
So that's my view on it.
But nonetheless, I'm reserving judgment on how it looks till it gets here.
I'm sure it'll be a good car.
They got to tease the car, then launch a car.
And then it'll be successful like the new Honda Prelude.
A great example.
No, the example that I came to mind, by the way, is the BMW IX3,
which has like had the most first quarter-state.
They got the leverage out at the moment that was revealed.
Yep.
Well, yeah.
I got to bring up another normal car.
Right.
And end with that.
We're done with the news.
Now, we have quite a few things to talk about in the talking cars segment.
We do.
You want to start off?
Is it brought to us by anything this week?
I think this week it's brought to us by Ryan.
The absence of Doug.
Goodness for his AC.
Oh.
Air conditioning has been working fine.
The lore has continued.
Do you want to start?
I don't know.
I think you should start.
All right, I'm going to start.
So a couple of things this week.
You've had a situation.
Had a situation.
So Car Week is coming up.
I'm going there.
I'm very excited.
It's next week.
It's next week.
I will be there.
You'll be there.
I will be there.
Yes.
Are you going to be there?
I will not be there.
I'm really sad about that.
I might drive up on Friday.
You know who's going to be there?
Producer Sean.
He's waving to us right now.
I might drive up on Friday.
Friday.
In my Model 3.
You can't, if you're missing everything.
You got to be there on Thursday.
Or leave here at like 2 a.m.
Friday.
Why would you're there by like?
I'm leaving at 5 in the morning on Wednesday.
You're living at 5 in the morning and Wednesday.
Why should I leave Thursday instead of Friday?
What's Friday?
Friday is everything.
Everything is on Friday.
Thursday, you should be there for.
If you're there Thursday evening, you're good.
I don't have a ticket to anything.
That's fine.
You don't need to.
Friday and Saturday are the peak.
I think I have a pebble ticket.
Well, then you should maybe be there for Saturday?
Well, that's Sunday.
That's Sunday morning.
But everything ends by Sunday, is my view.
Yeah, yes.
It does literally all end on Sunday.
No, no, not on Sunday.
No, not on Sunday.
I'm coming home Sunday morning.
I'm also leaving at 5 a.
Drive up Thursday, come back Sunday.
Okay.
I also have never been to Car Week,
so I'm a little torn on doing it in this, like, little bite-sized package.
It's the right way.
Otherwise, I'll be overwhelmed.
It's long.
Regardless.
Like, my view, going to Car Week is, like, only eating at the best restaurants for several days in a row.
You just get, like, when you stop taking pictures.
There was one point we were driving to breakfast and there's an F-40 at a valet,
like leaving a not one person in the car pulled out their phone.
Because we'd already seen a gazillion F-40.
You saw 20 F-50s driving down.
I was behind a straight-piped F-F-F-E.
ripping.
And so, like, for me, like, it is insane.
You're going to experience stuff
you never thought you're...
And you can go watch Felipe's video
on Cars and Bids.
Yeah, that's right.
You can do Car Week for free
because it's like,
you don't have to spend a lot of money
to have a great time.
It would be on the company card.
Thanks, Felipe.
No, you don't have to spend a lot of money
and have a good time.
Laptist for everyone.
No, you're good.
All right, back to time.
I'm driving up to Car Week.
Yeah.
I'm taking the M5.
And as I do...
You don't have one of a car,
so you got no choice.
Right.
I just wanted to make sure that,
inspect it. And we found a couple of things. One is that it was gushing power steering fluid.
The power steering lines are old. They leak. No big deal. Or whatever I'm going to replace them.
Not a big thing. We notice it's leaking oil from the valve cover gaskets again. Again.
You've had the valve cover gases replaced multiple times.
This will be a third time. For every reason, the passenger side one is the worst. I think it's
a third time in 20,000 miles I've had to do them.
To be fair, your engine has 250,000 miles on it.
Things get out of spec. I think that's true. And I think that's true.
I think we're doing it to spec, and I think, I'm going to work with you 309s or something.
But we're going to get that rectified too.
But the big one came when the tech, Alan, was taking a look at the car, and he said,
hey, your coolant level is low.
And we looked around the car and could not find coolant anywhere.
Oh, no.
And I'm like, oh, no.
So that meant one of three things.
Either that the heater core was leaking, because you can't see that.
There are coolant lines in the valley.
One of those could be leaking into the V8, and then it's just kind of sitting there.
Or head gaskets.
Now, the S-62 is not-
notice head gaskets, I think.
Well, the S62 is, A, not known for head gasket failure.
B, I haven't overheated the car once in 100,000 miles.
And so it seemed very unlikely.
So we tested a block tester.
This is this cool device.
You plug into, like, the coolant expansion tank.
And there's a fluid in it as it mixes with the coolant's being cycled through the engine.
It will tell you if there's any mixture of oil or anything like that.
And you're getting a blown head gasket.
It came back perfectly clean.
Good.
Good.
So there is a resolution to this.
Thank God.
So I was terrified because if it were head gasket, it's a full engine rebuild for me.
When you're pulling the heads off that car at that mileage, I'm just going
rebuild everything and send it to Peter Party
Racing and like do a full engine and that's
$25,000. Oh my God. How much is the car worth?
No idea. It's hard to say because
I don't know. It's hard to say. We sold one with like high
mileage and great documentation for like in the 30s
a couple years ago. My guess because of how
well you kept the car. You're in the 40.
Probably. Probably. The Kenan R Premium. That's right.
Well and it's like that and this that M5. It's like there's a
couple infamous M5s is Alex Royce. There's Ryan
Schultz and there's my 839
but those ones are very well known.
Luckily, so we did some more digging around.
I had them pull the plenum that sits on top of, like to inspect everything.
Everything was dry under there that got, so that was good.
But then we finally found it.
We pulled off one of the covers that sits over the top of the radiator,
and there was a very fine hairline crack.
And we were pushing on it, that's where it was coming out of.
Oh, nice.
So it's like, thank God.
So the radiator, so they're going to solve that.
So luckily, the resolution was done, but I was in panic mode for a while.
Because, like, the idea of if I have to drop one, I mean, I can.
I just don't want to drop 25 grand on an engine right now.
You'd be insane if you drop.
And at some point I will, which is, I've thought about the idea of getting another block
and starting a rebuild and having an engine ready on a shelf.
It's put in the car, which is a whole other level.
If you don't know, Ken currently has the best warehouse of OE parts available.
That honor goes to right.
He ordered seven headlights.
I did.
You have seven headlights.
You might think to yourself.
Why is it an uneven number?
I don't know.
I bought, no.
It was 11 sets of headlights.
And I didn't order them from.
myself. I prefer my version.
Ryan and my friends, we all bought the last available
Eurospec Hella headlights anyone on the planet.
We all have them brand new, sitting in a box, ready
to go. Because they
at some point, we're going to destroy the jigs, can't make.
We're going to get news of like a heist of M5.
Well, I keep up pretty, you know.
They're secure, don't.
No, no, Ryan has an even more
impressive parts for it than I do. You talk about someone
who's ready to keep a car on the road, it's Ryan.
But nonetheless, that was my M5 scare this week.
But it's currently being worked on.
It's going to be rectified, and it will be ready for carway.
What did you drive here?
What are you driving around?
My friend Chris let me is 430I Spider.
That, uh...
Oh, nice.
We're calling it the 430 Spider, but it's a BNW430I.
It's getting shipped out today to Louisiana.
Another car's getting dropped off, so driving that very briefly, make sure it's good.
How is it?
So this opened up my eyes as something else.
Okay.
I need to retire the M5 from daily use.
Scares like this, it's like I put so much money in the car.
It's like, I need to think about it.
With each mile and I'm putting on it now, is it like actually enjoyable and worth it?
The answer is becoming no.
And so, like, I want every experience on that car.
Driving to Carwick is great.
Like, that's a really fun experience.
That's what the car is for.
And that is, like, car is perfect for that.
But I've been thinking about getting it daily.
And when I brought this to Felipe,
Felipe just went like,
Oh, yeah.
I looked at all the least.
You know, that guy just going on.
It's a bird man.
It's not just a guy.
Yeah.
But did he suggest the Ford Fathom?
I would have had been out.
Okay, absolutely would.
But I've been thinking about it's like,
I think Kia EV6 was suggested at one point.
I can't imagine you're driving around an EV.
A DIVA is a great choice because this is just local travel.
When you're going on a long road trip, you're always going to take the M5.
Kind of, because they're usually fun.
You know what makes the most sense.
You can lease a BMW I4 M50 for nothing.
It's BMW, it's comfortable, it's where you're used to, it won't cost you anything.
I guess that's true.
And then you can just wash your hands up it when you're done.
I had pitched a WRX because they're a $300 a month WRX lease deals right now.
Yeah, but then you're a grown man with white shorts on driving at WRX.
Yeah.
What's wrong with that?
There's nothing wrong with, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
No, that's not the answer.
For daily driving, if you want something that is just purely for the appliance aspect of it,
and EV makes a lot of sense.
I think I do, and I do like, I see that appeal now, especially, I did dream that gas was $10 a gallon the other day,
which doesn't seem that far away, to be honest with you.
In theory, as of today, there's a deal between Oman and Iran for a move,
but that's going to change by the time you're listening to this.
Right, again, went to the whiplash marketing company.
I'm sure there will be and then there won't be.
Yeah.
They will be.
But imagine how much better it's going to be getting in your M5 after being in your appliance.
Exactly.
Oh, interesting.
I think that is true.
Very true.
Although I might be disappointed with the performance.
It's going to be so much faster.
Yeah, but it's not about, it's about the noise.
It's about the noise.
Yeah, no, totally.
I got to ride in the back of your car.
I got to, finally.
You did?
Well, we need to do a proper drive.
You were allowed?
I was allowed.
It was for the backseat of the car.
He needed a, he needed a, nobody sits in the backseat of that car.
Really?
That backseat.
People are absolutely allowed.
Very nice.
Very nice.
Thank you.
It's actually quite soft in that particular example.
But yeah, so it has gotten me thinking about getting a normal car.
I still want a viper.
Yeah.
But I think I want, I don't know, the freedom of having a car you don't have to care about or worry about, that's still nice.
But like, it's like if something happens to it, like at the end, I'm not emotionally attached to.
I just trade it and get it.
It's a genuine appliance, like a phone.
I support this for you.
It's great.
I'm kind of.
You also do so much like a round town driving.
It's costing.
You have to.
But like, why, when you're going.
going to where you store your cars with Ken and R, it's three miles from your house,
two miles from your house, something like that.
Through a pothold streets and like some of the worst streets.
I know where it is.
It's truly some of the worst streets.
And like why do that?
Why like that you, your car's not getting hot and just not getting hot.
It actually does come almost completely up to temperature.
But still.
But like, why?
Exactly.
That's exactly right.
Like it just the abuse to it that's happening as a put like it just like the wear on the
suspension.
It's like not, that's not worth it to me anymore.
So, and especially because,
these parts are getting hard to get.
About four of the last rear ball joints in the world from my car.
I want to be clear about something because I don't want my statement to make.
I think this is an insane decision.
You should just get rid of them.
Like practical mind if you should get rid of them five.
Buy a sports car and a car you like.
But I know that that's not going to happen.
And so I very much support daily in keeping them five last.
Thank you.
There's going to be people that comment and they say,
oh, Ken,
and why would you get an appliance just get a different special experience to drive daily,
like a Z3M?
Well, it's a way too, right.
That's an old car that also doesn't apply supply.
It's just like I think that...
You're not wrong?
I say it.
Because I still love my car.
Like, it's just like, I just...
Everybody gives me a lot of crap for really liking my car.
Like, every enthusiast thinks it like, oh, you should keep a car forever.
It's like, well, I'm actually doing it.
So like, this is what it takes.
I want to be clear.
I've never said anybody should keep a car forever.
You're talking to...
I'm the least nostalgic person you know.
You're talking to this.
Which is a perfect transition.
Ryan, you have a car you've had forever.
I have a car.
The zesty drift car.
It is no longer the zesty drift car.
What happened to the...
The stickers are gone.
Some of the stickers are gone.
Wow.
But, you know...
The zesty racing stickers are gone.
All the stickers are gone.
The sticker on the windshield for sure.
That is a windshield banner.
It's a different story.
That's not a sticker.
It's a banner.
The sticker on paint is a whole different ballgame.
And I think the audience would agree with me.
This wonderful audience.
Great people.
Great people.
Yeah, I was waiting for that, Ken.
Thank you.
Daytime.
You know, I've had the privilege to drive some really incredible cars.
Yeah.
Being here and being on camera.
And we'll come back.
to that but driving those cars and driving producer shan's new m2 made me think and driving johnny's
v a vantage on friday yeah made me think that man something newer something a little more mature
would be very nice a different experience than something that i've had for 15 years and built
and to pull us to work into and it's low and the bumper scrapes and all these things and i don't know
it's just it's different because you pour your heart and soul into a car and you want to keep it forever
and as canon knows you know it's not always the most financially excited
thing to do, but, oh, I, I can't stop thinking about a Hock and I'm silver M2 comp.
Really?
Yeah.
So, Sean getting an M2 non-com, but an M2.
Yeah.
Has, have you driven his M2?
I did drive his M2, but it wasn't Sean that planted the seed.
Really?
Back in Tesla in 2020, my buddy who was a tech there, Chris, he got an M2 comp in
Huck and I'm Silver that he did, he did the European delivery of.
Cool.
And he did the whole experience and seeing the car almost every day in the parking
line.
I was like, oh, man, that's nice.
Yeah.
Would you
I'm trying to think
with the rubber asses
You haven't been drifting in a while
No but there is a new track
Opening up
TCB ranch or something
An hour into Temecula
So that would be
It's like a toge style track
Do you think that part of it
Is that you haven't used a car
For the purpose you built it for
I think you gotta drift it once
On the West Coast
I would love to drive
I don't want to drive it on Grange
Because Grange's Apple Valley Speedway
Which you guys have been to
Because you have to get a trailered there
It is a yard sale
if you go off track
and it's just the car
is too nice for that unfortunately
terminology that I'm not familiar with
yard sale is when you are drifting or you're driving
and you go off track and you bump
and then your side skirts fly off
your front bumper flies off
it's a yard sale just everything just kind of flies off
but yeah I don't know
I'm driving the Lancia was great even
that Volvo wagon that I drove off I was like wow this is
cool I wouldn't drive it every day it's an 850
T5R with a manual it's the coolest
car we have in this office and I'm including the kundash
it's pale and the first it dealt it into
I know that's worth getting a little wiffy, but...
So there's a couple of things I'm considering.
And...
I mean, it's not the...
The advantage would be cool, manual.
M2 Comp would be cool.
A 2002 T-I...
Oh, wow, you would go old, too.
That's a interesting choice.
Is this fundamentally not your daily?
No, it's on my daily.
Yeah, no, not at all.
But the 240SX is hard to daily, hard to drive all the time.
But it's sound.
I've put...
You know, did the engine swap, the S-R-20.
It's...
I did all the suspension and restored the interior, all this stuff,
and I have friends who want to buy it.
But, yeah.
Would you keep it? Would you sell it?
If I wanted to get something else, I'd probably sell it.
Wow.
Yeah.
And that's going to be a tough day, and we say goodbye to this dusty drift car.
We kind of half already have.
It doesn't have its name emblazoned on it anymore.
Emblazoned on it.
It was never that, but no, I've had my time with it.
I've enjoyed it.
And it's nice.
There's nothing else I want to do to it to make it better.
Do you want to fix this to that consistently when you turn the key in the car?
It does start up every time.
It sounds great.
No, it starts every time.
The key doesn't turn.
The key, it's just, you know, the old worn cylinder.
You just have to jiggle the steering wheel.
This is 90s Nissan stuff, Lee, but something you know nothing about.
I actually love your car.
I think it's very cool.
I think.
And you got to drive it.
I think you want to drive it.
I would like to drive here.
And I got to take Doug drifting.
That'll never happen.
Yeah, I can only picture here.
Ryan, that will never happen.
He'll go, no.
Let me, let me think for a second.
Carry them like, no.
Exactly.
That is what he'd say.
That is what he'd say.
It's like he's here.
It's like he's here.
Well, Ryan, like, I appreciate that, like, you've been driving lots of cars.
You've got a lot of different perspectives and it's kind of open your eyes to new experiences.
I, too, have driven a lot of cars.
But for me, it's like my car was just, no offense.
It was kind of a grown-up car to begin with.
It's like, kind of a mature, yeah.
It's an old man car, for sure.
You had driving gloves.
You kind of grow into that.
That's how I felt.
You had driving gloves.
He's gotten rid of the driving gloves.
So have them.
They just, I go through them too quick.
You'd go to dinner with Kennet and you'd all leave.
And inexplicably, we all drive separately despite the fact that we live.
Another ridiculous thing.
We're all ridiculous.
But you'd like get in the car.
Most of us would be halfway to our next destination.
Kenan would be there.
Because Felipe turns the car on and when it spikes its revs before it even has a chance to come back down again, he is in third gear and out.
Well, maybe third gear, yeah.
But I'm not revving out when cold.
You don't rev up with cold.
You're just gone.
You got to leave.
You got to leave.
The solution is you got an EV and you can just take off right next to Felipe.
You'll be right on it.
I'm like white on rice.
That's right.
That's right.
something to think about.
But so, yeah, so I think that's growth for both of us.
And that, like, admittedly, I'm keeping the M5 and that doesn't change.
But, like, the fact that I want to give it up, even driving a manual as a daily.
You want to give that up?
Well, an EV is not a manual.
Yeah, but, like, you could get a non-EVy.
Maybe.
Let's go deeper on what Kent should buy.
Evie is, for so many reasons, a great choice.
You're driving around San Diego.
You're driving around Southern California.
We've got chargers everywhere.
It's easy to live with.
But let's also, you know, the peanut gallery is going to comment.
Let's have some basic things.
It has to be no more than five years old, 10 years old.
As new as possible, I think.
I don't want to have to do with maintenance.
Because someone's going to say LS 430 because it's the Lord's car.
The LS 430 is...
You can't have.
You need a car that you don't need to worry about.
And even in LS 430, which is reliable, but have some problems.
You have to worry about.
Things age.
Things are worn.
You want to not deal with any of that.
Right?
That's correct.
That's the goal.
You want us to ban.
matchback, SUV, pickup truck, convertible.
I don't really want an SUV.
Something smaller would be kind of nice.
Like, any sound leave.
Oh, Jesus, here we go.
I'm asking a question.
That's a question.
Let's move on.
That was a question.
If the R3X existed, that's what I really,
that's what I'm waiting for, to be honest with it.
That's what I want.
But that's still not around.
That's a couple years away.
And it'll be $60,000.
RJ said himself, that's the car I would want.
So like, I'm waiting for, that's what I really want.
Okay.
But for now, in the interim.
Honestly, and that's what, probably three years away?
Yeah.
So to have something at least for three years
But I don't have to care about it.
Perfect. It's pretty, yeah.
All right, so you want something practical hatchback sedan in that world?
Yes.
Smallish.
Yes.
Cheap lees, at least.
Yeah, exactly.
So think on that.
Oh, I've got thoughts.
I'm sure you do.
I'm sure you do.
We can make this happen tomorrow if you want.
I'm thinking about it.
If you were nuts, you'd get a Julia Quad.
There's only so much crazy I can handle.
I'll have a white breath of something.
You want to buy a station wagon?
I got a great one.
2014.
Not yours.
The worst 2014.
It's not bad.
It's not bad.
It's not bad.
It's not bad.
I actually don't know.
I haven't checked.
Don't pull it.
Don't pull the facts.
Okay.
I do have one quick thing, which is finally, there are wheels and tires coming for my pickup truck.
Finally.
Shout out to Tonokian for the tires.
They're there.
They all fit in the back of my station wagon, by the way.
Five full size 30-inch tires.
And then wheels are coming from Nomad, which I'm really exciting.
That is Nomad.
What do they look like?
They look incredible.
You'll see them when they're on the truck.
They're not fuel off-road wheels.
No.
Okay.
They look great.
I'm very excited to have them on there.
Are they period correct?
What color are they?
Silver white?
White's the right color.
They just make it look fun late.
I also do need to do other stuff to the pickup truck.
It's,
uh,
I need to like do some kind of temporary clear code or something to stop.
Lindsay Doyle.
Lindsay Doyle is actually, I'll ask our friend Colleen because she has like,
she has that Willie's pickup.
Yeah, I want to know.
Yeah.
I'll ask her.
She tried Lindsaydoll and there's some.
Is it?
wheels?
It is not those wheels.
It's the one set of more holes.
More holes.
People will see them, don't you worry.
But I'm very excited about it.
That one.
Yeah.
Oh, that's one of the gazillion holes?
Yep.
Oh, you pulled them up.
Convoy wheel.
Wow.
I'm very excited about them.
You're spending $3.39 per wheel?
No.
The crash on sale, apparently, but also, no-Mat is being very kind with helping me out with them.
I think the 504 field vintage white would have a super wheel.
do the car better, but I'm open to seeing what the...
Eight lug gets a little hard, and it's a size that is very much an old truck size,
but it's not the most common guy over here.
Four lug?
Eight lug.
Five lug.
I'm five lug.
I was just kidding.
Everything I went is five lug.
I thought Zusty was four.
No, it's never...
It was four when I bought it in stock.
And I converted it to five lug almost immediately.
I could.
The Dougism is the lore.
Let's move on to the market report, which is brought to you by Cars and Bids.
The fastest growing and best auction site.
We have an app for both platforms.
Android and iOS, go download it.
The app is fantastic.
And a bunch of very cool stuff coming.
Some of us will be a car week, by the way.
Sean, a producer Sean, will be there.
Ryan may or may not be there.
We don't know.
And then some of the folks from the key channel,
which is a great channel, check it out.
Joe is going to be there.
Joe will be there.
Yeah, I can't wait to see Joe.
And obviously, Kevin will be there.
And Nick will be there and all the other cool people, exceptfully.
Crazy Nick will be there if his range rover makes it.
Fingers crossed.
It will make it.
It will make it.
All right, but see in the market report.
Can I talk about two cards just off the bat?
Please.
Just search 9-11.
Okay, here we go.
Felipe wants to search 9-L...
Give us some nugget here, Felipe.
By the time this comes out, I want to talk about a couple of cards that are live that are just exceptional.
We have a 2018 GT2RS live.
That's on Friday.
VISAC card.
So, like, right after this podcast comes out.
But this is a special car.
Also, GT2RS prices.
We sold a few, but it's been a year or two.
Six-12.
It's got a ways to go to based on comps.
Based on some comps.
recency matters a lot
on confidence it's a little unknown
but a couple years ago these are 200 to 300,000
cars absolutely and now they've doubled
more than double how it's wild
well I guess because there hasn't there is no new
GT2RS yet yet
maybe ever maybe ever
they are awesome like I love the 991
I just it is such a
I remember I drove one of these ones
brand new Marshall Gold when we had our very first
one of the first ones released and it
delivered to the country and it blew my mind
how fast
700 horsepower twin turbo 5.
This was the most powerful 9-11 when it came out.
Yeah.
But it's not the most powerful one currently.
I think the turbo has more power.
A Turbo S-E hybrid, whatever, has more power, I think.
Lovely.
But this is incredible special car.
We also have a 9-11 ST that ends next week, which is like Turbo Manual.
Right?
Is that a fair summary of the ST?
No, no.
I'm thinking of the other one.
This is naturally aspirated.
Yeah, why can't I think of it?
Sport Classic.
I think of Sport Classic, yeah.
Which one's ST?
S-C, not ST, different letters.
Different.
And not the G3 SC, which is different.
No, this is a, yeah, so the, no, the different car completed.
Very special car in its own right.
This is one of the most desirable portions that, like, exists.
It's a manual GT3 RS, basically, right?
It's not RS.
Yes, yes.
It is a manual G2RS.
It's an engine from the G2RS, but GT3 touring, styling and a manual.
And a manual.
And super lightweight.
It is, in my opinion, the best 9-11 ever made.
I want to drive one.
Listeners, if you own a 9-11 ST, let me drive it.
Let me experience it.
Yeah.
I mean, same, though.
Why would it be insane?
I've driven more expensive cars.
Oh, same, yes.
Same.
I also want that.
Philippa's a big Porsche guy.
Me, on the other hand, I have some convincing.
Such a Porsche podcast.
We also have a couple of GT3s up.
Just basically the point I want to make is we have very much become the place where you sell your special 911.
And I love that.
Oh, we've done 1400911.
Yeah, yeah, we sell 911.
Lord.
That G2 touring is also cool.
We have another Gt3 live as well with some mods.
And then obviously if you want, you're 9911, you're 992.
Python Green, your 996, 993, a really nice 993-4S is going live today right after we film this,
which is also a very special car in the current market.
Where the place you go now?
And that's exciting.
All right, Ken, I pull up this 2022-911 GT3 on the far right bottom, because that is a 911 for me.
I love the GT3.
I love the 992.
And this one has the cup wide-body conversion on it, which it's the most Ryan 9-11 that's ever existed.
Right.
It's when you don't want that actual race car.
When you don't want that actual race car.
Well, T.J. Hunt did the, what, the GT3 conversion on his 458 or 488, which is the coolest thing you could possibly do to one of those cars.
And this is the 9-11 equivalent.
It's awesome.
I love this for you.
It's a very cool car, to be clear.
60 manual, G3, very special.
I actually think that this, does the cup cars look really good and therefore this looks really good.
Yeah.
You know the best thing you can do to a 488 is?
What?
Nothing.
Well, I mean, yeah, they look great as it is.
but the whatever race car conversion,
if you can pull up his car, whatever,
it looks so good.
With the big bumper, with the fog lights,
like it's...
I'm glad to be found a 911 for you.
We can, we can get you into this world.
I would take this blue G2-3 touring.
Well, yeah, that's a U-Car.
Unlike most Porsche people,
I would drive it on track
because that car deserves to be on track,
and it has been on track.
Yeah.
Which of these 9-11s would you want most,
Kenan, out of all them?
GDTRS.
I think I'd want the 9-11 ST.
Really?
The G2RS is just a bit too much for me.
Like, it's not who I am.
It's not who I am either.
And when I was on the East Coast for Lars,
the coworker we were with has a Gt3, a 991 G3 RS.
Not as special as this, obviously, GD3RS.
Just, it's so, it's so cool, but it's so much.
The ST is.
The ST, I mean, that's it.
I just don't want, I just can't do black.
If you're talking about models, of course, the ST is the one I would want,
but, like, the, I mean, a red GTTRS.
A guard, red, magnetic, so cool.
Ryan, which one?
And you're picking.
Well,
If I could pick any of them, it'd be the 9-11 SD for sure.
I don't love black as the exterior color.
I would prefer, like, there was this pale blueish color that I saw
at the one in Rhode America a few years ago.
Okay, I'd rather just buy the car and the color that I want.
Of all the mods, he'd just, like, wrap you something out.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Have some dignity.
He's the only one that supports Doug getting a heritage.
Because he wants the color that he wants.
It's a hideous car.
Listen, listen, no, no.
I don't think Doug should sell his car and get a heritage.
I think you should sell it and get the white with blue stripe.
We ever sold a heritage on it?
No.
It's not yet.
Not yet.
Although, man, record-setting heritage should be sold.
Okay.
The market's market reports for us this week?
No, I was going to talk about that in 11s.
I'm glad Felipe did.
You think I wouldn't?
No.
All right, I hate to do this, but folks sticking with Portia News.
Kenan, you're here to balance out.
I know.
I'm sorry.
I just noticed this one I thought it was interesting.
So this 2001-986 Boxster S-6 speed, great enthusiast.
A great enthusiast car.
Recently sold for $22,000 with $58,000 miles on it.
Now, it was a great car.
Finished in the lapis blue, which is one of my favorite colors.
Yeah, it's a good blue.
Savannah beige.
But it clearly is in nice condition.
Now, I sold one earlier this year.
Yeah.
It was also in great condition.
But it's interesting.
Like, 22, looking back at, like, recent results, like, that is a lot higher.
Like, we saw, there's an 01, Boxer S with 27,000 miles on it in yellow, a much rarer color.
But that 185 was also a lot.
185, like, yeah, I mean, this one here.
04 box rest, 35,000 miles.
So that dot 2.
215.
I think the 986 is starting to have a moment here.
This is all within the last, all within a couple, like 12 days of one another.
And it kind of makes sense, right?
Like the 986 is like the attrition rates high.
They made a gazillion of them, but a lot of them got modified.
They became very expensive.
They have IMS issues, poor someone.
So like nice ones are kind of getting kind of hard to find.
And they're kind of ironic, cool.
Like people hated them for a long time because of the headlights.
Then they became cheap.
And now I've seen people who are quite fashionable, like really loving the early 2000s and stuff.
And this car, I mean, it was the car that was in Legally Blonde.
It was the car that like, that's what she drove was a boxer.
El Woods.
El Woods.
That's right.
That's exactly right.
I know ball, Filippo.
We're all the same age at this table.
Which most people don't believe.
They probably don't.
Well, Ryan's only 23.
He sees lying too.
No, God, no.
But, yes, I just think it's very interesting that there's an appreciation for these cars.
I'm curious to see if that continues and how that goes,
but I love the 986 blocks.
I think they drive really well.
I think a nice example you deserve to be right.
But having your SL65 for 10 minutes,
you're not a convertible guy.
Yes, that is something that came up recently.
So I've driven a couple of convertibles recently.
I drove that, that,
I drove that Bentley Continental GTCV8,
this one we sold on the cars in the bids.
And the thing that surprised me was the scuttle shake.
I was like, it vibrates a lot.
It vibrates. I mean, it's heavy. That's the thing. It is really heavy. And there's no roof, so there's a lot of vibration. I also recently drove, I have an Eni Miata's coming in the site. We've sold it previously on Cars and Bids. It was the cutest little car. It's the cutest little car. It was the cutest little car. It was the cutest little car. It was the cutest. It's the night. It's like it just, the highway, like, on the 5th, it's come back. It's this one. Wow.
Sweet little car.
So it has 5200 miles on it.
But I drove that, and I was surprised also.
The scuttle shake at that thing was wild.
It's like it just, the highway, like on the 5, you know, like is your head to kind of north.
Like, you get close to like.
The panther.
We're north of south of the 8th.
South of the 52.
All right.
I'm familiar.
Yeah.
So before you get to La Jolla, it's kind of uneven there.
And it's a spot that will, it's subtle enough, it will upset a convertible car.
And you can feel a skeletal shake.
And then this thing.
A convertible car.
Yeah, it's like, it like, like you can feel like the windshut.
move separately from the rest of the body.
It's a concrete and a little unbalance,
and it's really flexing the chassis a little bit.
Yeah, so it does this to the car.
You see, I'd be driving an NAMI, I don't just say,
this is how they are.
This is what it is.
This is how they are, for sure.
It's a 30-something-old is surprising.
The Bentley was like that.
My 355 was like that.
The SL was a little like that.
And so I'm thinking to realize,
I might not be a convertible guy.
He likes it stiff.
I did, thank you.
I just realized that I might not,
as much as I love being in Southern California,
enters down as cool.
I might not like it as much as I,
I might like it conceptually,
but in actual practice,
it really bothers me.
The vibrations just drive me nuts.
I'm not surprised this.
I also feel like you are like a NVH guy.
You like it to not be,
like,
you like the noise vibration and harness.
What is in white and harshness?
Noise vibration hard,
harshness.
Low NVH.
Low NVH.
Got it.
Like,
that's what you want.
Yeah.
That's who you are.
And convertibles inherently by design,
add noise.
add wind, add things that I imagine you find just not what you want.
I just, I don't know, because I still want a viper, that's a convertible.
Like there are cars that I want, I just realized recently it's like, I don't know why it struck me.
I'm like, maybe I don't actually like convertibles all that much.
But the Boxer Spider never did that to me.
The Boxer Spider, I'd never really noticed any Scuttle Shake.
I'm glad you brought up the Boxer Sprider.
I've driven a lot of miles on those cars.
It is a stiff car.
That might be, oh, that's why.
The lifel.
I'm glad you brought that up because I texted Sam to,
borrow his boxer spider.
Oh.
And experience it because I am,
you are now coming around as a non-confertable guy.
I have always spread the gospel of convertibles or,
you know, BS or whatever.
It's not for me.
But the boxer spider, I've heard really good things.
And I want to experience it.
I want to drive it.
It's a great car.
The trouble with that car is,
you're willing like I do,
and then nothing else will, it's like,
it's just so good.
It's so good at everything.
Why don't you just buy that instead of the Viper and skip?
Oh, because once I do that,
it's going to be like my M5,
I'm never going to get it.
right of it. I don't want to deprive myself. I want to have some other automotive experiences before I
get to the Boxer Spider and then just peace out and never buy another car over again.
So, yeah. I'm not surprised by this. I also am not a huge convertible person, but in Southern California,
you accept some of those trade-offs because you can have the top-down. Top-down. It's so beautiful.
Exactly. So you know, did you enjoy my Fiat? Did you ever drive it with the top-down?
All the time. Because it doesn't have any rigidity problems because it still has the door of the rail.
That's true. You kind of, you get.
the worst of all world to some extent, because you don't actually have, like, a full convertible
experience. But it's the best of all worlds. But it's also the best of all world. Yeah, yeah. That's a good
point. I did enjoy your. There are other cars in that same realm. Not many. The Jeep Liberty
had a roof like that. Oh, good example, Felipe. Thank you. The Figaro, I think is available
the roof like that. If you want a Nissan figure out. I would own a figaro for a time.
I'm trying to think of a few others. And I think I'm out. But yeah, that was, it was just like
an observation I had recently. Like, this car really opened my eyes. I was like, man,
And that was a surprise.
But I don't know.
That car also went to its new home.
Very excited.
Went to Long Island.
Mm.
Good.
That's the right home for it, too.
Yep.
I believe a real estate agent, I believe, bought that car, which makes a lot of sense.
Can I talk about one other car?
Yeah, of course.
Look up G.
G.R. Corolla.
Giora's have been in the 30s to 40s since they came out.
When they first came out, the Mariza edition and started around 50.
But this week, we sold them for just over $20,000.
How many miles did it have?
It had real miles, 100,000 miles.
Oh, my God, 95,000 miles.
That's two hard, long years.
Which is impressive, but like, a 20 grand for a car that's two years old and it's a Toyota product, it's a high strung Toyota product.
There's a three-cylinder engine that puts out 300 horsepower or something like that.
I'll drive it.
It's maybe a little complicated, but this is a special car for 20 grand.
I agree.
It's a lot of car for 20 years.
Daily idea right here.
That's not a bad.
It's stiff.
It's the only issue.
It is really stiff.
It is stiff.
But you like stiff.
For convertibles.
Okay.
Have you driven a Jericho?
I never had
When Doug had it on test
I drove it
Yeah how did you like it
I loved it
I just felt that the interior
was incredibly cheap
And I didn't
Yeah but for your day
It has car play
I know what I wanted to be
A little nicer
Inside than that car was
I mean that really felt like
Yeah
It just just like
Everything is a hard plastic
Yeah
Look at it just looks
It's a $20,000 car now
Well now
But it wasn't what it came out
Yeah
People are paying up the ones
It is appeal
I would give it to
This is very appealing
I mean
It's cool to see one
Go for that
I mean
For this kind of money
I think it is one of the best driving experiences.
Of course, we all wish that we got the Yaris.
Like, that's what we really want.
But this car, well, but this car is really, man, this one with Underglow is wild.
Let's not click on that.
These are just so cool.
At 50 grand, I get how they price it that way.
It makes sense.
That's the most special of them that had no miles.
But once you're at 20.
And they all will get there.
They all will get there eventually.
I will say it's retained value better than any of its competitors.
The GTI was 100,000 miles.
the mark eight is golf bar with 100,000 miles, probably that's the same price point.
Yeah, maybe a lot.
So there's a retained value, but it's a deal.
Yeah, I'm with you there.
I like this car a lot.
You don't agree?
I think they're fine.
I drove one, my friend Julio, got one, surely after they came out.
And it was great, fun to drive.
I think it's a bargain for 20 grand.
Now, how many of them have those miles on them?
I mean, it's not a car you road trip if you can avoid it.
That means someone was driving long distances on the highway,
And this is the wrong car for that.
That's not what it was built.
No, it's a car is a car is a car.
That is not true.
A car is a car is a car is a car is a car.
Filippo.
Car is a car.
The Ariel Adam, a great car to commute.
A car is a car is a car.
Yeah, the aerial item would be under 50 if it had 100,000 miles on it.
But 100,000 miles on an aerial item, that is, those are hard miles.
Yeah, that would be challenging.
This is more comfortable than that.
Of course.
Yeah.
It's not a problem.
I'm looking at that the car fact.
I'm curious.
Texas, pretty much no record.
Yep.
Right around down.
timing around Texas.
Just long distance between Houston and Boston.
All right, should we go to questions?
Yes, let's go to questions.
Questions.
I have added some.
Doug normally goes through and selects the very best.
Who brings us the questions this week?
I've selected some of them.
All right.
Wow.
So let's start with these.
I did not forget the questions post this time.
You did not forget the questions.
If you want to ask these questions, you can go to Cars and Bids, go to the community tab.
There will be a spot where you can post questions.
We have 405 comments this week.
That's a lot of questions.
A lot of questions.
But I selected a four.
few. Maybe we'll have more. But we'll find out. We're rolling as we go. So, let's start off.
Okay. Ken and Ryan, what cars do you think have the most aggressive body styling for the least
performance? BMWIA.
I...
Wow, that's actually a really good... Next. Can I give you even better answer?
Sure. No. One second. I got to make sure I have the name right.
Oh, I've got one. I've got one. Lookup Focus. Noss. No, that doesn't come off.
Have we done one? Yeah, we've sold one. We've sold one. We've sold one.
But that doesn't come up.
But it still looks like a focus.
No, but it has the largest body, most aggressive, what is it actually called?
It's not the N2O.
It's the N2O.
Yeah.
But it still looks like a focus on the body kit.
No, but it's the most aggressive body kit imaginable.
It's, I think, this is a sign of the times.
Go that's over one.
That's the same.
Yeah, that's the one we sold, I swear.
This is a sign of the times.
This is what those cars look like, but this is.
This is the most aggressive body kit for no additional performance.
You can put a Bomex body kit on a minivan and make it look aggressive, but that doesn't.
This was sold by Ford.
Yes, it was, but it's still not the same.
How many horsepower do you think it has?
Ask the question again.
How many horse star do you think it has?
What's the question?
The question is, how many horse star do you think better at it?
220.
How many horse star do you think it has?
I said 220.
180.
Come back with a better guess.
180?
136.
136.
So.
But it looks fast.
It looks fast.
That's the point.
I'm so sorry.
Saline upped it to 152.
Solid.
Yeah.
So it's a question is, most aggressive body styling.
That's pretty aggressive.
With the least amount of action performance,
look at the rear photo, any of the three-quarters of the rear.
This hangs out feat.
They're a feat of saline high-performance bumper.
You could use the bumper for tailgings.
The IA is aggressive for not being that fast a car.
It's like 350 horsepower.
Yeah.
But it's an aggressive.
This is a normal car.
They added basically no performance.
10% up.
I'm going to get you on power here with one.
Oh, man.
This is aggressive.
The AZ one, the Mazda speed.
A.C.
You're not wrong.
Where is this?
Is it K-car, by the way?
Yes, this one, the M2-1-1-5.
That is a lot.
It looks exotic.
It looks exotic and it looks crazy.
I don't know.
I guess it, well, it's not as aggressive as that.
However, power-wise, what did this thing make?
It's like, you think that it was 63 horse power.
63.
There are typewriters with more horsepower than that.
If we're going to a Judge Arsend, though, like a Plymouth Prowler has some aggressive styling for zero performance.
It's not 63 horsepower.
Somehow it might be slower.
You know, I think I win this one.
Filippo, yours is a body kit.
Yours is a close second because it's the whole car.
I think Filippa's actually wins in this guy.
No car that has 152 horsepower deserves to have that front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts.
Filippo, you're not a tuner.
You don't really understand.
All right?
I think I understand too well.
No, you don't.
Okay.
That's my answer.
I'm sticking to it.
Autosam AZ1M2-1015 rolls off the time.
Well, we talked about this on cars.
and friends last week about cars that you buy to make you look rich.
For 50 grand, the I-8 looks insane, and the performance is so overwhelming.
The people that don't know what it is, be like, oh, wow, that guy's got money.
That's a special car.
People that have a general rarely think that it's...
John thinks for the performance is good.
That is that overwhelming.
It's fine.
It's fine.
It's a lot.
It's not slow.
Can I throw in a question?
Sure.
Already.
Did you comment?
I did not.
If the Fast and Furious was made today, what are they stealing from tractor trailers and
what type of cars are they using to do?
So I have the questions, the answer for both of those.
They're stealing hard drives, SSDs, and they're using GR Corollos to do it.
I think they're stealing RAM, but yeah.
Yeah, they're stealing RAM, for sure.
Or graphics cards.
Flip, we got another question?
I do have another question.
They're going to change gears.
Please.
With the recent release of the Ferrari Lucei, could market value and perception of the lesser
models, California, the Portofino, whatever the Amalfi is of the Corona?
Molfi, yeah.
Is that going to improve?
Because no longer the worst Ferrari product.
No, but it's second worst.
But they're pure.
They're real Ferraris, comparatively.
But they, I mean, I think that
not really.
I think that it will, I mean,
all Ferrari, like, Ferraris have,
the foreign market has caught fire, and it's just
going crazy. Cars are really going to
in value. Yeah. Have California?
Not seeing first generation
Californians go up. California T's
really haven't moved that much.
Like, it just is like, I don't see.
How much are the Portofino now?
I don't know, a Puerto Fino is,
California T is like 100, 115.
Portofino, we sold one a year ago for 200.
Well, that's the thing.
Ferrari, only the last six months count now in the world of Ferrari values.
But I do think that...
I'm honest, not that many Portofino's on enthusiast sites.
No, because there's...
It's not really an enthusiast Ferrari.
What's the platform that they're built on?
Is it the same as the Amalfi and the Roma and all those cars?
I have absolutely an idea.
The Amalfi is the Roma convertible.
But the Porta Porefila still exist.
It was the Roma spider.
and the Amalfi existed at the same time.
The Portofino still exists, though?
No, the Portofino was replaced by the Amalfi.
I want to go back to the question.
First off, the California, they are starting to clamp up a little bit in value
because it is a naturally aspirity V8 in a Ferrari with a hardtop.
This one was, in May, it was bid to 80 with 22,000 miles on it.
Yeah, but the person that buys a Ferrari, California, they want it to be red.
They want people to know they have a Ferrari.
If it was the same car in red, I bet it would have sold.
I'll bet you it wouldn't
I'll bet you it would have
I just don't think there's any
interest because unfortunately there's a stigma
that surrounds them that it is the cheap Ferrari
and also like it's kind of
it's not as hardcore as it's not the mid-engine
one everybody wants
yeah and so I don't think they
unfortunately now there is a Cali T right now
at the time of this area's will have ended
so I'm curious to see how
yeah but the fact that with the day left
is that 42 I also have to say
I drove that California tea that I brought to say
I was shocked
it sounds incredible it actually
it's fast handles well too
And it is tail-happy.
It really wants to slide around.
Awesome.
Which is cool.
And the turbo noises you get are kind of cool.
Like, it's a cool car.
But right now, the market is slightly nostalgic.
So cars like, uh, Drewsheron's tip frog, like those are going up in value and the 355.
It's not tip.
It's not tip.
It's F1.
You guys, the Doug, the Doug influence has, hey, has clouded your judgment.
No.
No.
It is hard of judgment.
It's tip.
It's much better.
He's got the challenge.
He's got the challenge for a TCU upgrade.
and he's got a...
Just because it doesn't mean it's a tip.
It's a tip.
Well, obviously, Tiptronic refers to specifically Audi's part.
In our world, correct.
They're trademissions.
There are manuals and their tips.
And then there's a Dodis and Shulidre manual.
It's a manual.
It's a manual.
I think I call it manual.
I got to push a clutch pedal and operate a lever.
It's manual.
But you don't have to as a thing.
That's fair enough.
But it's shipped by wine.
But to answer this question,
I don't think those lesser Ferrar-Miles are going to skyrocket and value like other Ferraris have.
I just don't think that the demand is there.
No offense to those cars,
they're just not cool enough
as enthusiasts view them.
I think they're great, honestly.
I do wonder if the Luce were the Malfi replacement.
Like if the Malfi and Roma and whatever other examples
were going away,
I do think that that would,
I think like California and Portofiore Fien are pushed down
by the fact that there's new entry-level convertible Ferraris.
There's always a new one that you can get
and that you might have to get in order to qualify
for a 296th Pichale or whatever it may be.
Right.
Right.
So like there's downward pressure.
If that went away and became EV, maybe they retained.
Maybe the newest model stay up because there's no longer any manufacturer pressure.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Maybe.
Yeah, I can see that.
But it's not an enthusiast favorite.
No, certainly not.
I thought California just had a shot.
I thought they, like, as they got to like sub 80 consistently, the 50s and 60s,
that they would be kind of have the resurgence because they're cheap enough to be accessible.
But I think those people buy Grand Turismo.
We also haven't seen that with Mondial.
So there's another example of like a classic Ferrari that just hasn't in a similar vein.
And very likely we won't see that.
So true.
It might be.
All right.
Good question.
I'm going to move on to one that has been asked a bunch of times by one H&D. Luke,
which is why is the auctioning community so obsessed with window stickers?
Enthusiasts treat them like the Holy Grail items, but I question their actual utility.
They only validate the specs when it was new, not the condition of the car now.
Well, can I please explain?
Happy to answer that one, yeah.
Someone who helped build the way things are represented.
Answer it from the editorial side.
I'll answer it from the valuation side.
Oh.
Okay.
I'll answer it from both.
All right.
You're right.
It verifies what the car came with when it was new.
It makes it very, and it then gives us like, we can check and see it's like,
okay, this car is sport chrono.
Does it solve?
It's like, of course, there it is.
It adds value to underscores like, here's how it came from one of the
it was new. We don't have to guess. That's why we treat it like the gold standard of
verification to like this is how it left. Now, of course, cars can be modified, but you're
usually not removing upgraded packages. You're not going to take PCCBs off of a 9-11, for instance.
So it makes it a lot easier. And you can take it from the valuation side, but I think it makes
it easier to place value based on the car that has this option. You can differentiate it from
other ones that have those. Absolutely. When you're looking at the original MSRP, the options
that are on the car. If the options are high enough on a certain price point car, we will also
call it out in the highlights on the auction itself. But I'm wondering if this person is on the side
of, I tried selling a car, I didn't have the window sticker, I got burned, or I'm trying to buy a car
and everyone's asking for the window sticker. I don't care about it. I think their point based on the
rest of their question is that it doesn't, it's not nearly as important as the maintenance history
or what else has been done to the car. I disagree. It's just an important. It's all part of the car.
Yeah, the maintenance history is obviously incredibly important. But if you, you've some
who's looking for something specifically,
I want a car a specific way
because it had this rare option
that I really want.
That for me is a value differentiator.
It's important to be able to verify that.
And also, that delivers a lot of value.
There are certainly people,
if you're looking for a chassis,
you're just looking for a car, great.
I agree it doesn't matter.
You want to do a V8 build on a Miata.
It doesn't matter whether that car
had that last package,
because you're removing the transmission
and you're removing the engine.
Plus a Miata Windows sticker.
Not very impressive.
Sure, but like the options that came with
don't matter.
But if you're looking for like an everyday car, it may matter to you whether it had heated seats or not, whether it had upgraded stereo.
It may very well matter.
If you're looking for a Ferrari or Porsche, the options ascribe so much of the value.
Let me see if I can find it.
Yeah.
And that's really important to buyers.
I remember vividly because I made a mistake.
Oh, no.
Kevin.
This was one of my, this was a learning experience.
We had to go back to 2021 to find the mistake.
Yes.
You just make them often.
It was this Melbourne Red BMWX3.
and I said,
you can go back through the comments and find it,
that it had the driver assistance plus package.
Oh no.
Which is one option different
than the driver assistance package.
And I said that because it had the other three
and I missed that it had the fourth.
This car didn't have a window sticker.
We also Vindicode a lot of the numbers
that do.
BMWs do.
We provide VINNFECs for a bunch of cars.
Yep, absolutely.
But because it didn't have the window sticker,
I screwed that up.
And the person who was the high bidder at the time
retracted their bid.
because I made this error.
Now, the car then ended up getting bid more.
Because they cared about that specific feature.
Because they cared about that specific feature.
If you go to my station wagon, if you search my name, you find it.
Oh, I know.
Part of the appeal of this specific car is specific options that it had that I really wanted.
This car was incredibly high-specked.
There's a lot of options that I don't care at all about.
I don't care that's the Disney No Interior.
But I do care a lot that it has dastronic adaptive crews.
That was a requirement for me for this purchase.
They needed to have that.
And so it was important that it had that.
And that's interesting.
And that they delivered a lot of the value.
There's a large value difference between cars that have it and cars that don't.
Right.
It's interesting that someone would even question the window sticker.
It's part of the experience, I think, of looking at a car.
It's as important as maintenance or more important, depending on what options you're looking for.
But it's part of just like, you look at a car, you see the color, you look at the interior.
You're like, what else did it come with from the factor when new?
I'll tell you one other thing.
If there has been an older car,
if it's an unbroken chain of people
who have retained the documentation of that,
that tells you something about how that car
is the people who have owned that car
and how they cared for it.
I will say,
there's obviously cars where it doesn't.
I get why it may not matter to you
what options it has,
because you're looking for
the cheapest C7 Corvette in the country
as I was that maybe at one point.
There was an option I cared about,
had a manual.
I didn't,
and the Z-501 was kind of important to me.
Like, none of the other things mattered.
I didn't care for the 1LT or 2L2 or 3LT.
I didn't care if it had a heads-up display.
I get not caring.
And what delivers value much more is, was this car in an accident?
Was this car modified?
Here's a question.
Would you rather buy a car with no window sticker or no maintenance history?
I would give up the window sticker for maintenance history.
It's slightly more important to me.
You can generally decode vins.
There's companies out of their monoroni labels is a good one.
But again, I'm looking at from an enthusiast perspective of owning an enthusiast car.
If you're looking at from a daily perspective, like I get the argument, to be quite honest.
Yeah.
But it matters.
It really does matter because the options matter.
and people value options.
Yeah, these cars are all mass produced,
and so, like, they're very small things
that differentiate them.
Yeah.
By the way, I will say, we don't,
if you look at our classic cars,
the pre-191, especially,
or heavily modified cars,
we often won't be able to differentiate
from the car from the 50s,
what was standard equipment,
what was changed,
and at that point,
the original equipment doesn't matter
because it's likely been modified,
updated, whatever.
Depending on the car,
yeah.
There are certain things like,
you know,
that Jag XK-120 that I did,
like I knew to look for the C-type head.
Like, you got it, that took some effort to figure out
to do that. That's really important to verify.
So it's like, you know, there's stuff like,
there's subtleties to all these things.
Do you mean, for a lookup, SF90?
Oh, I think I know why you're mentioning that car.
And specifically the black one.
Yeah.
This car with a $763,000 MSRP,
total sales of retail price,
uh,
200% of, the MSRP was base is 500,000.
an additional 50% of value coming just from options.
You better hope that some of those options have value.
Yep.
You better hope.
Otherwise, I mean, some of them certainly don't.
Also, cool thing about Ferraris, I'm looking for it real quick.
They all come with, since 2017, I was 2016,
they all have this plaque on the inside of the trunk
that tells you exactly what options the car has.
So the car is this caliber, you may want something specific
or you may value something specific.
Oh, yeah, front lift is important.
You know, everyone wants to shoot as Daytona's ball ball ball ball ballpark?
Do you care that it has a cabalina stitching on the headrest?
Maybe your value to that is not the $5,000 that it costs.
Sorry, $2,025 that it costs.
But it underscores if you want this car.
If you want to resell it,
you may think the future buyer of this car does care about that.
They want to have as many horses on their SF90 as possible.
Let me make sure that I would buy a car that has that.
It's true, a lot of horses.
I don't think anyone's going to turn down a window sticker, to be fair.
But let's move on.
We've hung out on this question for quite a while.
Fine.
All right, let's find one more.
All right one more.
Give us one more good one, Felipe.
I saw one that said, why is Felipe the way he is?
I know.
And the common response is a long, complicated response.
They love you, Felipe.
It's such a complicated response.
We talked about the Bugatti FKP, which is the Ferdon Piac homage Bugatti.
It looks like Guevara, but it's a shoe run.
Why do we like that, but we don't like the Lamborghini Kuntas, which is a current
Eventador style to look like a Kuntash?
I do like the Kuntash.
The do Kuntash?
Yes.
You like the new Kuntash?
Yes.
You?
Yeah, the rear of that car is so cool.
You like the new...
You don't like the new contosh.
I'm stunned by that.
Doug certainly doesn't like it.
Doug does.
The amount of thought that I give to Angular-Brigney product is zero.
The new one?
What years of 2020?
Oh, yeah.
Four or five?
I don't know what nobody knows.
I saw one at Ogarra.
I think that is cool as hell.
It looks great.
When I came out, everybody hated it for...
Everybody hated it because it was a cynical cash guy.
Right, but we're okay with the FKP.
I think.
I think...
Which is also cynical crash.
I think it looks...
I think the Kuntosh looks very cool.
Yeah.
I think it looks really cool.
I mean, people call it lazy because it's just a re-bodied ventedor.
Yeah, but so was the Reventon.
I've driven the Reventon and I have driven the mercy...
The same extravingsman.
The reventson looks like a damn F-22.
Well, you hit the button and the gauge cuff, but that's...
Is that not cynical?
No, it's awesome.
It was cool.
It was a cash grab.
But they are cool, and they only built, what, 50 of them?
They should have made more of them.
I do think that's a damn bummer.
I think that the... I like it first.
I like it first.
I think it's...
I'm surprised.
I really thought that you hated it when it came out as like a...
No, no, I never had anything bad to say about the car.
I know it's expensive and stuff, but like...
You think it looks good?
Yeah, I think it's...
The rear in particular, I think is really cool.
I like the little black thing on the side.
That's the homage.
Maybe it's gonna spend so much time with this car cleaning it.
It's like, I know what it feels like...
I just think it's cool.
They brought some of that shape back in it.
Yeah, calling it the crew...
It would have been cool if a new, brand new model that was going to reproduce was called
the Kuntosh.
Yeah.
You know, I also...
I also feel like the...
At least this looks like the car it pays a monastero.
The Ferrari testeroza, the new one.
Not even remotely close.
Doesn't look like one from 1958,
and it doesn't look like the one from the 80s either.
Doesn't look great.
All right, can we do one more?
Yeah, one more.
It's a quick answer.
Are you worried that the next generation of car enthusiasts
won't care about Pontiac, Plymouth, Saab, Oldsmobile, et cetera?
Just like we don't care about dead car brands from 50 years ago.
The answer is they absolutely will not care.
And I don't think so?
No, of course not.
I don't know.
I think it takes a special person to care about those car manufacturers and brands.
Special is the word.
Pontiac.
Like,
why would the next generation with DGIS not care?
I mean,
they're all...
I think to the same extent that who cares...
Is there a community for Suda Bakers?
Yeah.
Sure.
Yeah.
But they're all old.
How many young people are into Suda Bakers?
Some.
Not zero.
It is small.
But it's small.
And the community that's into any of these brands will be small.
Yeah.
And also old.
You're talking about the broccoli hair kids that do takeovers and have the hypercars.
Man.
Glasshouse.
This is, buddy.
This is natural flow here, baby.
Come on.
I don't, I think that there's some community, right?
I think the internet has meant that some community
live for much longer than you might expect.
I think there will always be people that are into sobs
because they're really cool.
Yeah.
They're approachable.
The keys in the center.
Yep.
I saw a...
It will not be a key thing of the community.
I saw an old school 93 turbo the other day when I thought of you.
Guys.
Be more specific.
It was red with a community.
93, 900.
9-3
Okay
It was 93
So 98 and up
Yes
Old school is an interesting word
I guess it's not one
What is the really old
With the three-spoke wheels
What was that?
That 900
That was 900
My mistake
I saw someone driving
That red convert
Two young guys
Actually driving around
Another other day
It sounded awesome
I would love one
So I think it will be interested
In some of those
I will be small
I couldn't care less
About those
And we're the same generation
Right
Tells you enough
When was the last time
You thought about Plymouth
Plymouth
Yep
Well we saw the
There was a prowler on the site.
I was like, oh, that's cool.
With her Plymouth Prouler?
It might not have been.
There was actually one, so on the key channel, Joe and I drove across the country in a Model A.
Yeah.
Top speed about 48 miles an hour.
It broke down a lot.
I test my mechanical abilities.
But we didn't know that you could have newer cars on the rally.
We thought it was only these pre-war fords.
And there was a V10 Viperswopped Plymouth Roadrunner on the rally.
Wow.
Now, you do get a multiplier at the end of the stages.
if you have an older car, it's like 1.2, depending your score.
And then if you have a new engine swap in a car, you do get a slight disadvantage, like multiply
by 0.8 or something.
But that was cool.
So that was when I thought about a Plymouth because I had a damn Viper V-10 in it.
It was awesome.
And it smoked us.
I don't know how competitive they were, but they were probably a lot more competitive than we were.
Like a bicycle probably could have smoked you to be honest.
A bicycle could have smoked us.
That car was a coffin on wheels.
We probably should have been a bit more safe in that thing.
It was definitely dangerous.
But if you want to watch that video,
we'll include in the description below.
So you can go watch Ryan Fix, a Model-A?
Yeah, well, I didn't really fix it.
It was mainly like going,
I think we went through like 12 or 13 gallons of coolant.
Just like Kennan's doing.
It's a much smaller league.
Yeah, and a non-apprecious system.
So it's a little easier to top it off.
All right.
Well, next week we will have a normal podcast,
but a bunch of the team,
Kennan included will be out at the quail.
If you see them around.
Please come and say that all.
I don't bite.
Do you have any statement like that?
Last year it was Doug told people to tell me something.
Is there the thing you want the people to tell me?
So you're M5.
Tell Kenan to sell his M5.
No, I don't want to hear that.
No, just remember to go to Kenanar.com.
Oh, that's very common.
If you want to help getting your cars sold for the most money possible.
Oh, thank you, pretty full.
Kenner.
com?
Kenner, you got some good cars coming.
I got some good cars coming there.
There's a lot of interesting stuff on the way.
But I actually had someone redesigned a little bit of the website.
Oh, that's great.
Wait, before we sign off, can we talk about a car you have live right now?
Oh, you want to talk about the N3?
Just really quickly.
Yeah, absolutely.
It's a 28,000 mile E46M3 comp.
With some of the best photographs of an E46M3 ever taken.
Nick Stafford, who's the Stafford visuals who's sitting right there took these pictures.
Look at him.
Now, it just so happened that Nick got a new camera that week.
It was shooting these pictures.
And I told him it's like Nick, I almost cried at how beautiful these photographs are.
They look great.
They do look really great.
I mean, this car is awesome.
I mean, it's a one to do, too.
This is like a really nice example.
But Nick crushed it with photos on this thing.
Yeah, CSL truck, that unfortunately, the original is not retained, but it is a ZCP car.
That's the competition package.
Oh, ZCP.
Yeah, ZCP, yeah.
They only offered it at the end of production, 05 and 06.
And this is like the one you want, ZCP, manual, manual seats.
I think no center armrest, which is like a big deal in the E46 community.
Does have a sunroof, but it is like, but yeah, 28,000 miles.
The guy who bought this car bought it from the original family who bought it.
Oh, nice.
It was a father and son who bought it originally, and the son told the dad, like, what is dad wonder, what car should I buy?
And son said this, and they ended up with an E46 M3.
but that picture.
Oh, my.
What a car.
It's cool.
But for no other,
go check out the photos on this car
if you want to see great photos.
E46 M3.
20,000 miles.
I'm excited to see what it is.
We haven't...
Me too.
Had a super clean E. 46 in a minute.
They're like six of them live at the moment,
but they all pretty much end before this one does.
And I am really curious.
It's titanium silver with a black interior,
which is the most common color combination,
but it is really clean and good Lord is a drive-way.
I think this car looks best in silver.
Laguna'sa Blue might like a word
I don't know
The Getsika Blue is a little too bright
I agree I don't like Lugna's sake of Blue that's a hot take
But I do like Mystic Blue a lot
And I like Topa Blue
Yeah agreed
This is Mystic Blue
I just think it hides too much of the car
I also like some of the grays
I can't remember which one specifically I mean
But some of the grays I think look good
Yeah but titanium is always nice and bright
It's like a classic color
Yeah
Early 2000s BMW is just all look good
And titanium's over
Z8, my car
or E53.
You had, you know.
Mine, mine was blue.
Are you supposed to blue?
Yeah.
I can't remember which blue it was.
It was a while ago, but.
All right, that's enough.
Yeah, that's enough.
All right.
Thank you for listening this week.
Again, if you're upset that Doug was not here,
shana carsendbids.com is where you send your complaint.
