and welcome to this car pod.
I'm Felipe.
I'm Nick.
And I'm Doug, and let's start with the news.
The biggest news story of all this week is that I'm looking for a Ford GT heritage, a 2006 Ford GT heritage.
I want to buy it from an enthusiast who loves theirs.
And I want a car with miles that I can use.
I want to swap my blue one for one of these.
If you know of one, send an email to Sean at Cars and Bids.com.
S-E-A-N at Cars and Bids.com.
Now, when we did this with the Super,
people were like,
my brother's uncle has one.
He might be willing to sell.
I don't want that.
I want, hey, I've got one.
I'm thinking of selling.
Here it is.
Sean at Cars and Bids.com.
That's the big news of the week,
and we're going to do this until I've got one.
Why?
It's cool.
Okay.
You have for a long time,
kind of been an advocate for driving your cars,
having cars.
is you love that you can drive your 4G2.
I also said at one point,
I also said at one point that the heritage
looks like a clown. I did say that.
Yes, and it does. It is not a good look.
Will anything about
the driving experience be better?
Yeah, yes. What? Yes. You don't
understand. Mine's in 05 and the heredages were all
06s. Yours is also modified
for more power, so it'll be slower until you modify
it also.
Any differences between the 05s and 06s?
Oh, are you kidding? Chassis,
Chassy tuning,
suspension,
engine tuning.
Felipe,
mine looks like
a Shelby Daytona
and that one looks like a clown.
That's the big difference.
Again, I asked the question.
Why?
Because it's cool.
It's cool.
Why not?
Why not?
If I said,
you know, I want my 9-11,
I don't want black.
I actually want to have deviated stitching
and I want it to be oak-green metallic.
What would you say?
I've owned my car for, and I've made this point many times on this podcast and other places.
I've owned my Ford GT for eight years now.
Sounds like you have a lot of memories in it.
That sounds delightful.
Time to move on to a new car.
14,000 miles.
And I've never liked the color.
And I want to move on to a color that I like.
And I like white, but I love-haired-
As an enthusiast, when you're driving the car, the color is prominent.
It's a prominent part of your driving experience.
I just I want a color that I want.
I mean, I bought the car because it was the only one I could afford when it was for sale,
and that's different now, and I want to get a color that I want.
And I like white, and the white is on the table.
If the right white car found its way to me, I'd have a conversation too,
but I really want a heritage.
I'm ready.
There's 343 of them.
One, it must be a slow news week if this is what you deem to be the most newsworthy thing this week.
Yeah, it's tough.
This is going to be our number one news story until I have one.
I admire you shamelessly using the pod as a way of procuring vehicles.
I'm here for that.
While we're at it, I am looking for S-7 that either has a salvage title or a ton of stories behind it that is dirt cheap.
I want to be clear about something.
I'm looking for Jaguar XJ.
You don't know what's called, but it's an X-J.
I'm drawing a blank on it, but also really cheap.
Like, I'm looking, you did this with the 430 Scud.
You're like, oh, I'm a buyer.
Then you throw out a number that was not market-correct.
And it's like, yeah, I'm a buyer on any vehicle if it's 30% below market.
No, no, no, no.
I'm ready to buy the 4GT at the market correct price.
The 430 scoot thing is different.
I never said on the pod that I was looking for one.
I was trying to keep that hush, hush, and then they got away from me.
But I did say on the pod that I was looking for a Supra,
and I did say on the pod that I was looking for a 993-trimed turbo.
And that's how I ended up with both of those cars.
The pod give it.
And it's not for me, by the way.
It's not just me.
Kenan had the same scenario.
That SL-65 came to us this way.
And Kenan has launched his business this.
way. The pod giveeth. The pod give it.
I am worried in this particular case, you drive your 4GT when it's raining, you drive it on long
road trips to Palm Springs for no reason. Like you, I wouldn't say you beat up that car, but
you treat it like your everyday daily supercar. I worry if you buy a more expensive version
of it and a rare color, you're going to have to start to be like careful about it and
wash it correctly and be worried about mileage and stuff. Even if it is a higher mileage
one, I worry it's going to ruin what you like best about the car, which is you don't have to
GAF about it and can drive it like a normal sports car.
Well, then maybe I won't do it.
All right, next news.
Wait, I want to keep going to this.
I think that after this podcast, after this news, we have to issue a moratorium on any kind of
paint to sample deviated stitching jokes because it's the same concept.
You want the one that you want because you think that the color looks cooler.
You're wrong about the color looking cooler, but you think that does.
I love this.
And that's the same reason people get those options.
No.
Do you paint the sample.
I want the color because I like clown.
And paint the sample people want the color because it's more valuable.
That's the difference.
I have decided to accept clowns of the circus variety, of the birthday party variety in my life as a friend and as an accomplice.
And so that's why I want to be part of this.
Are you starting a clown business?
Because this is a good, like, advertising car.
I'm going to do this and then I'm going to get an S cargo and paint it the same colors.
My favorite car spot you've sent to the group is you sent, you were in Malibu, you sent a picture.
of this with number 99 on the side.
And I said, that is Wayne Gretzky's car.
And sure enough, it was.
Wow.
Because the Edmonton Oilers, which was his initial team, had this color palette, which
is objectively not a great color combination.
But for Wayne Gretzky, it really worked.
Number 99, it really works.
I think it looks weird when there's no number in there, but I don't know which number
to pick.
So I'm curious if you pull this off.
The number to pick is six, because that was the Lamaw winning car.
Here's an interesting fact, twilight for you.
only five cars have won LaMau twice, five chassis.
That's hard to do.
Because you win, and then your opponents have a whole year to beat you.
And then you win again with the same car.
That's like a wild thing if you really think about it.
True.
All right.
You know, you guys aren't motorsports enthusiasts like me and Kenan.
All right, move on to the next news.
So you have one of these, email, Sean at Cars and Bids.com.
S-E-A-N at Cars and Bids.com.
Please have this go quickly.
We can't have this be every week.
Every week.
What happens, folks.
Got to move quick.
Next two story, please.
All right.
This is the McLaren lineage of supercars.
There is a rumor.
So Monterey Car Week is in two weeks.
I can't wait.
There is a rumor that McLaren is going to be unveiling a car that's codenamed the P50.
This will, in theory, be more expensive and exclusive than the W1, which is that car, and will have a manual transmission.
Make you hear this?
If it's going to be 12-Dor-Chile injury style.
Yep, like fake manual or if we'll actually have a, like, actual manual transmission.
But regardless, that is the rumor.
I'm pumped for it.
Funny enough, too, on the pod delivering, I complained the other week that quail tickets are too hard to come by.
Someone DM me, and I'm now going to the quail.
Here we won't.
The pod give it.
So I will see it in person and tell you how it is.
Last year, McLaren also brought the Thunder because they had the F1 revival there.
They had all the Gordon Murray cars.
So I think it's great.
I'm as a McLaren owner, at least partial owner with the Mercedes McLaren SLR.
I'm a big fan of this lineage.
I don't know why the SLR is missing from this exact photo.
Yeah, no, I mean, that's a good point.
And the SLR, of course, is well known for its excellent transmission.
Nick, Nick, the pod also delivered a sale of your cars, hasn't it?
No, not yet.
Are you going to talk about that today or not?
We're not talking about it yet.
But there are two cars in motion right now that I will reveal.
I don't like to jinx a deal before it's done.
Especially on a P-38 Range Rover.
That deal is not done until like six weeks after the car is gone
to make sure the guy doesn't text you and tell you the whole thing blew up.
I do have to tell you though, Doug, the wire hit yesterday.
So I think that one's wrapped up.
Whoa.
We haven't signed any paperwork yet, but he did book a flight and send money.
It's sold for wire money, not cash money.
Yeah, well, I mean, it was slightly above the Venmo limits.
But it could have been Ben-Moe in two installments.
It's a P-38, and honestly, that deal could fall apart.
I'm not kidding, up to a month after the transaction.
Like, what if the car kills him?
Obviously not.
Well, the white already hit.
I would...
I guess send the title to his widow or something.
Oh, my God.
Apparently, by the way...
The rumor is that it's going to be super limited production,
which would be very disappointing.
None of these automakers want to commit to truly bringing
back a manual transmission.
I don't think they can make it make sense financially,
which I kind of get,
there's a bunch of reasons why they want to have limited production.
They can avoid a lot of homologation factors.
But 100 is the rumor.
This is all based, by the way,
on a pretty loose rumor from one publication,
but everybody has picked it up
because I think everybody wants this.
Jalapnik is saying 399 units,
so even that's not there.
Nobody even knows.
McClare and themselves hasn't said that this is debuting.
Like you said, it is some like generic website
called like Supercarclaw or something.
Here's the question for you guys.
we frequently make fun of McLaren's for being rich guy go fast cars.
Would a manual McLaren have an impact on our perception of the brand?
A little bit.
Yeah, I think so.
I also think you're slightly unfair on the rich guy go fast accusation.
They are incredibly fun cars to drive, very frenetic.
I think it is more of, it's not the car that's the problem.
It's the type of people that buy the car that is often the problem,
much like someone who buys a heritage.
It's not necessarily that the heritage is wrong.
It's the kind of guy that pursues a heritage
that kind of makes you question their character.
Let me ask you a question though, Nick.
Don't you think blue with white stripes is like a little boomer?
I agree that blue with white stripes,
you didn't pick the best spec in the world.
I'm not sure the heritage is classically beautiful.
Let me tell you what happened.
Let me tell you what happened.
I bought my car.
When I bought my car,
they were all the colors were the same price, more or less.
Okay.
Over the years,
there have become people who are obsessively tracking
the colors and it has become known that the blue is the second rarest color after the heritage,
except for yellow, which no one wants because it's ugly. And so the blue cars have become way more
valuable. And so I'm like at a $100,000 price delta, or $75,000 price delta, which I don't
deserve. And so that's factoring into my decision. It's like I might as well capitalize on
this before people wise up and realize it's all stupid. I'd just wrap it personally.
You think that Braden can wrap me at FortGET Heritage?
color scheme?
I could, I think he could, but I would maybe pick a different color.
Right.
I think if you're...
Or pick one of them.
You make it orange or make it blue.
This is an iconic livery.
This is an iconic livery for God's saying.
I think if most of your enjoyment of the car is at this point tied up in having a clown
you should consider a different car.
Or just go full on clown.
Jackie Ix didn't look like a clown when he won Lamar.
I'll tell you that.
I'll tell you that.
Sean's over there nodding his head like,
No, yeah, you're damn right.
I'll wrap my SLR McLaren in like either mobile or BP's color scheme to match your golf livery.
That's great.
All right.
Yeah, so nice.
Next, uh, news story, please.
We got a bunch of three.
399 is a W-1 production.
They think a hundred of them.
Oh, uh, all right.
Second expected release the debut at Monterey is Hennessy's project overlord.
Uh, is what they're calling it.
The company founder John Hennessy had referred to it as the American Carrera GT.
Damn.
What we know from what they've said is that where the Venom F5 is they're like top speed chasing,
they want it to be as fast as possible.
Their goal with the Project Overlord is to be more driver-focused, higher revving, like, character-full car,
rather than just a top-speed pursuit car.
We will hopefully see it at Monterey Car Week.
Will they be offering it in the Gulf paint scheme?
If they have any kind of marketing, market awareness, no.
or eyes.
Eyes might do it too.
They have done some like
highlight or yellow colors
on pretty wild things.
I love that.
Is this a manual?
What's the engine?
What do we get?
We don't know.
All we expect is that
it's probably a little bit smaller
than the Venom F5,
simpler power train,
a little slower,
and maybe a manual.
Maybe.
If it's a CGT revival
or if you're comparing
yourself to the CGT,
it's got to be.
However, I think,
look, we're in the golden days,
again,
of American hypercars.
You got the Sizzingers.
Yeah, we are.
Tennessee's, now McLaren and Ferrari are coming out with manuals, which I understand aren't American.
But, like, all of a sudden, hypercars are getting cool again.
They're no longer going to say it, not rich guy go fast cars.
They're trying to build driver-focused, enthusiast cars instead of just trophies you put in your Malibu garage or what have you.
So I'm here for it.
And this is going to be a great car week if we're getting stuff like this.
This one will be revealed on August 3rd.
We know this one for sure.
So it'll be exciting to see what they come out with.
And then I assume it'll be all around car week.
I saw a bunch at Bear Jackson and that car week in Arizona.
What did you see a bunch of?
Hennessy's.
Oh, yeah.
And they're pretty crazy in person.
You're not talking about Venoms.
You saw a bunch of Hennessy Venoms?
I don't know, man.
I couldn't tell any of their models.
It's like Canon of Kiyas.
Like, you can't name, I can't tell them apart, but I know what they are.
Here's the models.
There's the Venom.
And then there's a bunch of Ford Broncos that they've tuned.
So did you see a tune in Ford Broncos?
It was their hypercar.
It was their hypercar.
or whatever that thing.
Yeah, the VAT 5.
Yeah, this car here.
But regardless, it would be exciting
to have another supercar revealed.
By the way, I've heard some rumors
of other supercar reveals coming in Monterey
that they're not concrete enough to share yet.
Ooh, yeah.
Okay, move on to our next news story.
Guys, we have some incredible news.
If you haven't been following along
over the last few weeks,
I've worked closely with my friend that AutoZone
to finish the rescue on this 1973 Ford F250
that I inherited from my late father-in-law.
Today, we have an insane update to share with you.
Not only did we finish it, we have it outside waiting for us.
We just need to top off the fluids and we'll get to go for a spin.
ASMR hood close.
That sounds fun.
My late father-in-law was a mechanic and a very meticulous person.
He really cared about finishing the job and using high-quality parks and doing it well.
So I just want to say thank you to AutoZone.
They really came through.
They tested my alternate for free.
They came through with a wide range of quality parts, and I got everything that I needed the same day.
Thank you, Autosome.
And I'm so excited to drive around in this truck,
experience with my wife,
and really do my father-in-law proud with the work that we did.
In the car world, there's always that one thing you keep putting off.
On my P-38, that's the oil leak, the transmission leak,
the differential leak, the coolant leak, the buzzing noise,
and the lack of air conditioning.
For you, that might be something different.
But whatever you put off, eventually it gets bigger and bigger until the bill becomes huge.
Houses are the same.
And for me, it's the gutters, dead last on my list until heavy rain sends water down the sides and pooling around the foundation.
That's not just annoying, it's costly water damage.
So let leaf filters local pros handle it.
They clean out, repair, and protect your gutters, then install micromesh topped surgical-grade stainless steel.

C-REP for warranty and promotion details.
Okay, one thing that is concrete, because it was revealed today,
is the upcoming Rangerover GT.
I did, and I have some thoughts.
So they're claiming one blog is going as far as saying it's a car, which it's not.
It is a SUV with a slightly slopy rear hatch,
which has been since all the Audi's been doing it on sportbacks forever.
But it's an EV.
It's basically their Luce competitor, as if anyone asked for that.
And what?
What?
It's a weird-looking hatchback.
Mackie SUV.
Got it.
One of them is $600,000.
One is it.
Well, yeah, in truth, of course, it's a competitor like the Q80-Tron and I think I-X.
But what, remember years ago when Land Rover came out with the concept of the Road Rover?
Do you remember that?
Yeah.
They were going to make cars.
And then instead, Jaguar made SUVs.
And then the Jaguar brand, I think, has failed.
I don't think it exists anymore.
It's still around.
They showed their whatever they're calling it at.
That'll probably be a quail again.
It was at quail last.
year. Nothing has changed at all
other than the name.
There's a little bit of Celesteque
in this design, but I...
There is. I don't understand. People are calling it a car,
but it's not... Yeah, it's an high piece.
It's like a machete. It's like a...
They've grabbed it as their most car-like
rangerover ever created.
They say that it's still capable, but it certainly
won't have the off-road ability
of the other rangervers. It is starting out
full electric. They think, they've said
basically there will likely be a hybrid
coming later.
The platform couldn't handle it.
It's a little like Valar,
Coupie, but more so, styled.
It's a new model,
which is worth discussing.
Their press release makes it sound
like they're reinventing the category.
It's just another EV.
I'm very tired of these AI written press releases
that make it sound like they're changing the world
when it's like, okay, cool.
It's another vehicle that is not that different
than what else is on the market.
But I love Land Rover, so I wish them on.
I'm going to give you a little info.
pre-AI, the press releases all still sounded like that.
I know, but they're getting worse.
They're definitely getting worse.
I don't think they're getting worse. I think they were always terrible.
But to me, this is, it's, to me, it's like their version of a mock E.
It looks like sort of a more cary, more slopey.
I mean, obviously, it's not a competitor.
Do you mean that it's an electric car?
Well, like every, I don't understand what you mean by a car version.
Like a low kind of carish SUV.
Yeah, it's certainly much more, it's like a vular taken to the next level of slopiness.
coop, less off-road-focused.
You know, I come from an era.
I'm an old-school Land-Rover enthusiast.
I don't know because a more modern land-over enthusiast
kind of fall in my footsteps.
But I come from a school when Land-Rover meant something.
Okay?
Land-Rover. Do you understand what I'm saying?
They actually do claim they, like, go out of their way in this
fluffy press release to say that it will have off-road capabilities
despite being more car-like, yada, yada-a-data.
I don't know. We'll see.
I come from a world.
All right, next news story.
It will be, we're going to see, by the way, they have previously shown an electric
range rover, and at Goodwood this year, they showed electric rangeover sport, but this is the first
one that's actually on their dedicated EV platform.
I'm with Doug.
It's not a land rover if it doesn't leak oil, so it is not a land rover.
So they said it's going to come out next year.
It's a ways away.
Yeah, and this is just unveiled today.
All right.
Wow. Keep it going to the Mercedes-MyBox GLS 680.
Yeah, 2027 edition.
All the changes are fairly minor, but you love to see it, man.
The big dinner plate wheels, you've got it just slightly more ostentatious, exactly what we want.
Nothing changed about this car.
Did you just want to mention it and look at the dinner plate?
No, no, he's right.
So the GLS was refreshed earlier this year for 27.
Now we see the Mercedes-Mibok version.
I do have a fun fact for you.
Two fun facts.
One is apparently will lean into corners more than before.
It may or may not bounce.
I have not gotten confirmation on the bouncing of it.
But it will also be built in America for the first time.
And I can't believe you're claiming nothing's different.
Look, it went from the S-600 to the X680.
We got an 80 bump in the nameplate.
There's two-tone paint available.
I mean, this is...
It was always two-tone paint available.
They're reinventing the paradigm of the category.
through a groundbreaking revolutionary design philosophy
that reinvents everything.
Somebody's written some press releases in their time.
Yes.
Oh, my God.
The only actual change has got a little more power.
It's got the new taillight design,
which is on the E-Class and such.
Doesn't look like any big changes to me,
but I'm glad that Nick wanted to put the GLS 680 in our pod.
It's got some more bedazzling to it.
Can we talk about the primary thing on the new GLS,
ANS class, and E-Class and GLEs, etc.,
which is the,
The S level ones have three Mercedes logos in the taillights.
The E levels have two.
That's why you want a GLS.
You want to get three.
As an E-class owner, as a multiple E-class owner, I've had seven.
That hurts.
It hurts, right?
It's sad.
You only get two logos.
I feel like I shouldn't be considered a second-class citizen.
I'm a loyalist, for God's sake.
I own every E-class they've ever manufactured.
Every single one.
And then they reward me with only two taillights.
I'm going to BMW.
Just kidding.
I wouldn't buy that pig if you gave me a billion dollars.
All right.
Move on to the next new story.
Whoa.
That's a short clip.
Oh, my God, I want to talk about this.
This is a great new story.
Filippa, you've been following this story?
Of course.
All right.
Some guy with the drive, some journalist with drive,
gets pulled over and a Land Rover
because the flock camera caught a license plate,
the license plate had been reported stolen by Land Rover.
And it was the wrong one. Land Rover reported this license plate stolen. The flock camera caught this license plate. Everybody's up in arms. Everybody hates flock and the surveillance state and all the cameras and all that. And that's all true. However, something that no one is talking about in this news story that should absolutely be talked about more is that the state of New Jersey issues multiple license plates with the same license plate number. It's so funny because it's glossed over completely in the story as if like we all know government is trash. So flock.
should really be able to solve this problem that government has created.
Now, the people who are, the press people are going to say, well, there's a little number
on it to distinguish between all the different manufacturer plates.
It's basically unreadable from any distance, and that's by design.
The plate number is issued to Land Rover, and then they put hundreds of these plates
all over their cars.
And I remember when I worked for Porsche, this would happen to us constantly.
We would get a ticket in the mail for the Porsche's plate, and it was indistinguishable
which plate it was because the little numbers were.
So a little.
What do you mean?
So like, for the manufacturer plates in New Jersey, it's some code for Rangerover and then
some secondary number.
34 is Land Rover's number.
And then the plates, and this is actually, this is not just true of New Jersey
manufacturer plates.
It's true of a lot of different types of New Jersey plates.
New Jersey then has a tiny little number in the middle of the plate.
It's only, maybe an inch high.
It's not high enough to read at any real distance.
The cameras can't read it, but neither can people.
And it's just to assume, oh, that's plate number one, plate number one, plate number.
plate number three for this manufacturer or for this dealer.
Even people can get, here's a crazy fact also.
New Jersey, you can get the same personalized license plate as your wife and as your best
friend and whatever, and they're all distinguished by little numbers.
Now, this is not unique to New Jersey.
Many U.S. states, including California, including most of New England, issue license plates
with the same number to different cars.
And I think that this is an absolutely wild component of this story that nobody is mentioning.
It's not just these manufacturer plates with the little numbers.
In a lot of states, the exact same plate number is on different vehicles because it's a different type of plate, even though the same number appears.
Isn't that insane?
Only Doug would get more worked up over the license plate naming than the fact that they pulled them over with hands on their guns because of a surveillance.
But why would that happen?
Because New Jersey issues, not a few, but thousands of license plates to completely do.
different vehicles with the same number.
It's absolutely mind-boggling.
Other states that also, New Hampshire, Maine come to mind.
New Hampshire is the worst of all.
New Hampshire is the worst of all because in New Hampshire, they issue punctuation marks
and they are separate.
So if I got Nick, that would be different from Nick with a dash at the end and Nick with
a dash at the start, an ampersand Nick and Nick Amper Sand and N-I-C-K.
Those are all different license flights in New Hampshire.
It is wild stuff.
Totally, totally wild.
The real crime here is using dashes and your license.
No, but it's nice.
It's actually really helpful.
You can do so many more variations.
You can do variations.
But then when you get a parking ticket anywhere but New Hampshire,
the other states don't recognize that a dash makes a license plate a completely different car.
That's the value.
It's a dream of getting a parking ticket and then it has the wrong license plate number or the wrong.
The person who has the plate without the dash gets every one of those parking tickets and camera tickets.
This goes way beyond flock.
It is unbelievable to me that this happens.
It is common practice.
Wyoming has done it for years and years and years.
It is common practice in a lot of states.
Real consumer advice, if you live in one of those states, make sure you get a special character
because you'll get fewer parking tickets than other states.
Sort of.
That's not always true.
Most states with special characters like North Carolina and California and Virginia
just ignore the special character on the plate.
So if you have Nick with an exclamation point, then you cannot also get Nick without an exclamation point.
Only New Hampshire goes so far as to distinguish between them.
Anyway, the real consumer advice is your license plate number might be on another car.
And if it is, good luck.
Yeah.
And by the way, it's also worth noting.
It's not worth getting into.
Yep.
Read a ball in the story if you're interested.
The actual most outrageous thing to non-license plate enthusiasts is flock defending themselves saying that the technology
work correctly, they should not be pleased or defending themselves with how the outcome of
this story came.
I don't necessarily think that the technology didn't work correctly.
I mean, there are a lot of problems with flock and with surveillance state and with the cameras
beyond.
But like, the technology work correctly because New Jersey issues thousands of license plates
with the same number.
It's so funny that that's passed up because there is just a baseline assumption that
government is trash and it screws things up.
That's just like the baseline of this isn't government.
It is AI reading license plates and then feeding the police officers information that's not necessarily correct.
And then them coming out like patting down and intimidating people based on like a totally incorrect report.
If the government is going to use this technology, which in a lot of states they clearly are, I would start by making sure that every vehicle has a distinct license plate.
They would argue that it is.
So the technology should not be used based on your own argument.
Yeah, all right, okay.
I don't disagree with that.
If you're not going to do that, then maybe we probably shouldn't be using the technology.
Having sold SaaS products, Flock said that it could distinguish.
Yeah.
Regardless, it's been quite a story.
People should read up on it.
The Drive has had some really incredible reporting on this.
I would like to see the Drive's report on why, like, 35 U.S. States issue license plates
with the same number to this.
You would be the only person
that reads the article on,
well, you and your Facebook group
of, I actually agree with that
because I think that the outrage part of the story
is flock, and that's the part you report on
because it gets a lot of clicks.
But I think there is a legitimate problem
and anybody who's had this happen.
My buddy, Andrew Gans, who worked for us, had this happen.
Colorado issues tons of plates with the same number.
And he got a ticket for ABC 123
on a completely different vehicle in Maryland.
It was a speed camera.
And he was like,
this isn't my car. They're like, it's your car. It's your plate number. And there was nothing
to do. Insane. Yeah. As always, some promises made that that makes face think they don't need
to update their rules. But if they're going to use that technology and have consequences
tied to it, kind of high things to get it right. Imagine you finally win your dream card auction,
a pristine, gated manual supercar. But to save money on transport, you hire a cut rate hauler
with a rusty flatbed and frayed bungee cords. You wouldn't try.
Trust a sketchy trailer with a rare exotic.
It's the same reason why Morgan and Morgan is America's largest injury law firm.
It comes down to having the right resources.
Not all law firms are the same.
Hire the wrong one and you might be beat before you even start.
Morgan and Morgan has been fighting for the people for over 35 years
and has recovered over $30 billion for their clients.
Hiring them is like showing up to a track day with a full factory racing team.
They have more than 1,000 lawyers and 100 offices nationwide.

If you own an older car, like this rust bucket behind me,
you already know that the part situation is its own hobby.
You've got the one forum thread bookmarked,
the one guy in Ohio who reproduces the trim piece,
the box of spares in the garage you're weirdly proud of.
So the idea of handing your car to an insurance company that thinks it's just a use pickup truck is genuinely stressful.
That's the difference at Haggerty.
Claims are handled by people who speak car, not call center scripts.
When your collector vehicle needs repairs, they use high quality parts appropriate to your vehicle and the damage.
OEM, new old stock, or custom components when suitable and available with the same care and respect you have for the car.
Repairs that keep your collector vehicle a collector vehicle.
And with guaranteed value, you set your car's value up front.
It won't depreciate every year like standard auto insurance.
It might even go up.
And if your car is totaled, that's what you're paid.
You've probably already seen them, too.
Cars and Bids is driven by Haggerty,
and there's a Haggerty widget right on the listing.
So you can get a quote on your car before you even win it.
Visit Haggerty.com and get insurance for drivers.
Yeah.
All right.
Keep it going.
Honda Prolog.
Rest in peace.
Rest in peace.
Doug.
This looks still on the market?
Yeah.
Not as of like last week.
It is now officially dead.
We knew it was going to be done.
dead, by the way.
Like, they announced that a long time ago.
In the Accura equivalent had already been killed off.
Yeah, but it's formally here.
It's officially dead.
Rest in peace to the reporter from the drive after Flock killed him.
And Under Prolog.
We were doing so well in that story till that year.
Yeah, the Hunter Prolog is dead.
Joel is alive.
Honda Prolog is dead.
Doug, I love, I mean, you just ridiculed them endlessly.
So I'm allowing you a chance to gloat and say, I told you so.
What, the Honda Prolog?
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, it was a good car when there were a ton of incentives and you could lease one for $1.99 because the incentives made it affordable.
But it becomes a lot less of a good car when you actually have to pay a sticker, which is not tenable for most of it.
Which is happening to EVs across the board.
I think each week from here until the end of the year, we're going to have another EV that's killed off because the incentives no longer make them a rational decision.
Here's who I feel bad for.
Here's who I feel bad for.
In addition to all the people whose license plate numbers are duplicated.
the people who bought like Honda loyalists who decided to dip their toe into the EV pool buying a Honda prologue have ended up with a vehicle that is orphaned that was manufactured by General Motors and that will never be serviceable at Honda dealerships in about three years don't you think
Honda's going to be like now you know that's actually a Chevy and we don't do EVs anymore I get Honda I mean we talked about this when they announced it but I get Honda's decision right like they had planned on this being a stopgap they were developed
developing the RSX, which was last year at, during car week that they revealed the RSX EV.
They had planned that Afila project.
They had planned other EVs to come out.
Oh, yes.
And this is going to be a stopgap.
I imagine that their margins on it are quite poor because they are fundamentally paying GM to have engineered and developed it.
Why keep it around when you're not going to be replacing it with something better in a couple of years, right?
Like, to be fair, they did that with the passport years and years and years ago where they worked with Azuzu.
and then eventually came out with the pilot to replace it as a standalone product.
They aren't going to be replacing it.
And a lot of other manufacturers have said that they are not really working on their next generation EVs.
Chevy will come out with a new Equinox in a couple of years.
That's going to be the end of that.
That's the only one they have planned as a lot of refreshing.
Ford killed the lightning.
Obviously, unclear what some of their plans are.
Cadillac revealed has had a bunch of new EVs,
but they're now working on replacement for the XC5 and the XC6 gas powered.
pulled out of the market.
The next set of product planning is going to be really telling
what makes sense to do.
Nick, we're doing on this pod.
You know what we're doing on this pod?
This is a great pod.
You know why?
We start off with manual transmission supercars.
We move on to crushing the surveillance state.
Now we're on gas-powered SUVs replacing electric SUVs.
And we sprinkle in a little bit of Ford G-T Heritage.
Hey, we're doing it all.
Hardsand-com.
S-E-A-N.
everybody has launched a bunch of hybrid
it will be interesting to see what happens
five years from now, 10 years from now
when that maybe turns around
I will say California has revealed
a new program for California residents
to buy EVs
that is an incentive as long as they're below a certain price
or headquartered in the state of California
Tesla no longer is so not applicable
Is it income tested?
It is not income tested but it needs to be
your first EV and it's a much lower amount.
The liberals come out
like this is it got to be your first EV
the cars to cost a certain amount
or the company has to be headquartered in California.
In the end, 11 people are going to qualify for this.
It's actually quite broad.
It's like below 60 grand, as my recollection.
It's quite a broad chunk.
It's $3,500 that's just really up.
Yeah, but it'll be sure.
In California, who are interested in an EV,
don't haven't already gotten one.
You know, then EV sales this past quarter were actually up a decent amount,
and they are kind of ticking up.
There is, especially as gas prices are higher,
and EV prices remain pretty low and heavily incentivized by the manufacturer.
It remains appeal.
Everyone knows EV sales were up this last quarter
because everyone was rushing to Nissan dealerships
to buy the ARIA before it was discus.
Before it went away.
Hey, hey, Leipo, if you had to buy an EV right now,
what would you buy?
This is so easy, Rivian.
If I had the money for an R2, I would buy an R2 right now.
If I had the money for an R2.
You have the money.
Lee's deals are still pretty appealing on Ionic 5
that I think is a really compelling product.
If only I can scrounge together the money for me for an R2.
I'm not sure of it.
I could make it.
Never spent that much on cars.
No, I'm not even, I guess.
The lease deals are so really compelling on that.
If I wanted a family car, lease deals on EV-9s are an ionic nine.
Nines are really compelling.
Philippa, let me ask you this.
If you had the choice, would you get the same license plate number as Nick so that you could go around getting tickets and charge them to Nick?
I'd be so worried about getting Nick's tickets.
Yeah.
That I wouldn't.
When I lived in Pennsylvania, the O and the Zero were different characters in their mind.
And so I had a plate with a zero.
And several times I got parking tickets.
It's been, it was just written to the O, and so I didn't.
Do you ever think about the fact that the standard Maryland plate till 2017 had vertical characters?
Yeah, it was wild.
It was totally wild.
Hard to read.
You know what I always liked is in Arizona.
They have the traffic cam lights.
And when you get the ticket in the mail, there's a link to view a video of it.
And so you can't dispute it and say, oh, I lent the car out to a buddy.
It wasn't me or whatever.
So, like, our friend Sam, like, sent this hilarious video.
He's like grinning ear to ear, you know, we're like, like, you're like, like,
You just, it's like a cool, like, okay, like, I'll just view it as $300 for the photo shoot.
As a quick reminder, like, I got good rollers.
Don't run red lights.
What if it's yellow and you're in a hurry?
If you got the ticket, probably.
The problem is, and I got in trouble for this before, is it turned yellow, so I speed up.
So then I'm past, I'm far enough into the intersection, it's okay.
But now it captures my speed and says I'm speeding.
So, like, it's like double jeopardy.
It's not like double jeopardy.
As my idol Matt Ferris says, only break one law.
at a time.
When you run the red light and speed, you're going to get a ticket.
This car pot and cars and bids recommends following your state's traffic code to a T.
Yeah, Felipe recommends following that.
If you can, getting a license plate number that's equal to somebody else's.
By the way, for years, Idaho also used stat characters on their standard plates.
And Wyoming actually still does.
You know what Nikki Loub recommends is that you get a Montana license plate that is unreadable.
And then you don't pay any taxes.
And you don't have to worry about any of this.
No one's reporting anything stolen in Montana.
They're like, oh, God took it, God to provide.
I'm good.
You know what I mean?
Like, you got nothing to worry about.
So go to LLCTLC.com, enter Nick in the referral code.
Do you actually have a referral agreement?
Yeah, yeah, I get like 50 bucks every time someone commits tax fraud.
It's amazing.
I love America.
Where else in the world could you have that?
Oh, my.
God, that was the Nick Ramble Central.
It's a rare one clean enough to keep in.
If I actually entered Nick as a referral code, that's too generic, right?
You got to have my whole name, Nick Rashon, or maybe Nick's Carblog, LLC, or Nicholas Rashon.
But much like License Place, I think they'll take like a phrase match or like a close enough.
Like, it doesn't have to be exact.
That's right.
Flox run of the referral program over there.
The problem is I think the lady is named.
Dolores, who keeps track of all of this, probably on like pen and paper.
So I've never actually gotten any of the referral credits, but I know I've generated a few.
So there's that too, man.
When I worked in the corporate world, there was a guy who left our company and went to work for another company.
And he told us, he came back years later and to work for us again.
And he told us when he went to the other company, he was hired as the IT guy.
And he showed up and someone said to him, I can't figure out this Excel thing.
And they had two rows.
And one had numbers in it on this row.
And the other had numbers on this row.
and they would do the addition with a calculator
and then enter the added number together in the third row.
And that's how I assume things are happening
at the Montana LLC place right now.
Yeah, yeah.
They don't have a system if you want a vanity plate,
the check if it's available or not.
So you handwrite your three preferred options,
and then they try their best,
and then if they don't have those available,
you just get a random one.
Like, that's their level of rigor over there.
To be clear, a lot of states still to this day do not have an online lookup.
Although my very favorite non-online lookup state is Massachusetts,
instead of having a list, instead of having a lookup,
they have a list of what's already taken.
And so I swear to God, it has thousands of license plates on it.
They're all alphabetized.
And so you just scroll down on the list.
And if it's taken, then you don't ask for it.
When it's a slow news week, we talk about license plates.
All right.
Let's keep going with our news, though.
There are other stories.
All right.
Are there?
It can't be much worse.
It's getting better.
This is a CT5V black wing.
Yep.
We have known for a while that the CT5 would return.
GM is working on a platform, a new Camaro, maybe a new four-door Camaro, and it's also
going to be the underpinning for new Cadillacs to dance.
There are rumors this week in announcement that there will be a CT5V blackwing as well.
We know nothing else, but it is going to return, which is exciting.
But I mean, one of them has a man.
I think the Camaro is known to have a manual.
And so this gives me hope that the CD5B Blackwing will also have a manual.
I mean, Nick, this is like your dream news segment here.
I'm not a new car buyer, but I otherwise agree.
We're talking manuals.
We're talking big engines.
We're talking the surveillance state.
Like, this is real for you.
I know.
Poor Cadillac, too.
They just got beat up for having like the worst customer approval of any luxury
brand and all that.
But they're doing the day on work out there.
What's he talking about?
Is he talking about IQS?
There's so many kind of initial quality things.
Who knows?
Service.
I'll Google it for you.
All right.
Please do.
You'll Google it for me.
You brought it up.
And you left us with scant details.
So anyway, what I do on this pod.
The idea is that the Blackwing may still live on in a next generation.
Indeed.
Yep.
That's the news.
Let's make it a wagon.
I don't know about that.
Well, it's not going to happen.
All right.
Last new story is the Cadillax, excuse me, the Accura XL.
That's probably not what they'll actually call it, but it will be a larger than an MDX,
three-row SUV.
Accura's MDX is like a mid-sized, segment.
Entries a little bigger than like an X-5, but it's Q7-sized.
This will be bigger than that, like a large SUV coming out in 2029.
This is a Lexus TX rival.
It's wild to me that these automakers didn't figure out until yesterday that they needed, like,
You know, the GL came out in 07.
07.
The X7 took forever itself, but probably came out in 18.
And meanwhile, Accura and Lexus are showing up like, oh, a big three row?
Oh, oh.
It will apparently, by the way, be hybrid, which is right now, Accur doesn't offer any hybrid.
I think that's true.
So that will be exciting.
By the way, I have a fun fact.
The news story.
But really here is probably that Honda will then come out with a companion car,
which will be a Grand Highlander rival, bigger than the pilot, which they kind of need.
And so that would be, that's going to be pretty enticing if it occurs.
That segment's a little weird where the Grand Highlander and the pilot are, like, the pilot
splits the difference between a regular Highlander, which, by the way, is now EV only for 27 and the Grand Highlander.
But yeah, yeah, they need a larger competitor.
And so that's a good sign for that.
I have a fun fact for you.
We talk a lot about how Acura is dying.
Acura, by the way.
Sorry, Acura.
In the first half of 2026, they sold more cars than Cadillac and more cars than Audi.
They're the four largest luxury brand, despite the fact that no compot.
Yeah, but their sales are a quarter of what they were 15 years ago.
Agreed.
They've canceled half their models, and I'm just curious what the profit margins really are.
It's funny because the automakers always point to sales numbers when you say they're dying.
I've got nasty emails before from some of the PR people.
And it's like, okay, now let's talk about how many of the...
those I see with commercial fleet license plates as rental cars sitting at Enterprise.
Well, keep in mind, the RDX is old, the MDX is old.
They're all old products, so they might have amortized the development cost pretty well by now.
Yeah, but the ADX is brand new and market-powered.
Yeah, and because the engine is smaller, their profit is larger.
Philippo, here's a question for you.
What is your all-time favorite Acura?
Ooh, it's not the NSX.
No.
TL Type S, maybe.
This is like one with an objectively correct answer.
The MDX, they have made one cool car.
The MDX before this was available as a sport hybrid, but it was four seed only.
If it were five Cs, I would have considered it.
Okay, but since it wasn't, how about throwing the NSX in there?
Yeah, fine.
The TL Type S would do that.
I would accept Integrity Type R as a contrarian point of view, but it's TL.
The 04TL.
The 04TL was a pretty dangerous spot.
What I was saying.
TL type S.
Nick, you know, Nick is the only person at this table who's had an Akura.
Yeah, that's right.
Shout out TSX Club.com.
You help me pick out the right lowering springs and window trim blackout kits before I told it.
You know, whenever we say Akura, people get incredibly enraged in the comments.
It's Accura.
And it's funny because, like, first off, obviously we know that.
But second, this is a made up word.
A marketer has told you that it's pronounced Accura.
Now I'm telling you it's pronounced something.
something different. We're all making stuff up here. Probably if it was existed today,
an AI press release would tell us how to pronounce it. It was created in 1984 by Name Lab, a San Francisco
based naming for it. It's like Canberra. Is it Canberra? This was all made up. This was all made
up. Nick's sitting here. What's Canberra? It's the capital of Australia, Nick. It's not Sydney.
I know this is shocking to you. Nick, for $100, name the capital of Canada.
the whole country
conman
I'm going to go with
Victoria, British Columbia
because I was just there
Well they had a capital building
I think it's the capital of British Columbia
Felipe you got this
Yeah Ontario
Ontario the whole province is the capital of Canada
Americans do not know what the capital of Canada is
That's the news to take away from this
It's a city called Ottawa
All right, move on to, what do we got next?
We got the talk card segment.
Angry text from, from Thomas and Jayes.
I barely know the capital of California.
This is not an important thing to know for the day-to-day functioning of Nickyloob.
It's, all right, you know what?
Let's move on to the talk to.
I'm like, oh, quick, let's go to Sacramento.
Let's move on to the talk car segment.
Let's talk about Nikki Loob.
Nick, what's the status there?
We doing this or are we screwing around and just talking?
Because me and Felipe are ready.
I got my wallet out.
I want it.
For those of you who don't know what Nicky Loob is, Nick has decided they're
needs to be a premium offering relative to Jiffy Loop.
So you get Jiffy Loop, which is all that speed and cheap.
Nick wants to do a premium offering, which is ironic because he himself would never pay for it.
Nick, tell us how Nick's going.
I have a meeting on Friday with a private equity individual.
Seriously, he did financial modeling and all of this stuff.
And I'm trying to get in touch with Alex partners to make an offer on Lucid as our first offering.
It's a good hedge that way if oil changes dry up, pun intended.
We can shift EVs.
You can have an EV company.
So yes, I'm basically diversified.
Nikki Loub, and we're also rebranding.
Actually, I came up with the slogan.
Did you need a lab or no?
A lot of people wrote to me and said, Nikki Loub doesn't sound serious.
Like, it's going to be hard to raise funds with that.
And it's also not clear what it does.
And I agree.
So it's going to be Nickylob.
Then the tagline is for luxury oil changes only, or for loco,
for short.
So that's where we're at with it.
We have a tagline.
We have a logo, and we might be buying lucid.
Oh, that sounds great.
Man, that all sounds great.
Are you in?
Am I in as an investor?
Yeah, or otherwise.
I wouldn't invest.
Can I at least change your oil?
I wouldn't invest.
I wouldn't bring any of my cars there,
including I wouldn't even bring my 2000 Mercedes-Benzheny.
station wagon there. It wouldn't happen.
I am thinking of going undercover boss
and trying to get a job at a quick loop
just to understand the business better.
But in the meantime, I'm just going to start
offering oil changes to be. I'll take one.
So if anyone wants one, I got an extractor.
All right. Yeah. We're going to tell a
story. I got to tell a story here
about Car Week, because Nick's wants to talk about Car Week.
I can't wait. Last
year at Car Week, I brought
my Kuntash, and it was
widely considered to be the greatest car there.
No, but it was cool, and it got me into quail.
It was entered in quail, which is like the premiere event for younger people.
And it was so cool to see it there and to participate.
And while we were there, Nick had sort of a crisis of faith, let's call it.
And when we were having launched, me Nick and Sean, Nick kind of flipped out.
He was like, my mercy of I go is not cool enough.
I need something that's cool enough for quail.
It's cool enough to get me into quail.
And I all summer before this, I had been talking about how SLRs were too cheap.
And I mentioned it for the ninth time to him then there at that lunch.
And for some reason, he latched onto it.
And by the end of the day, he was calling dealerships nationally about SLR, like losing his mind.
Anyway, bought his SLR, thanks to me, you're welcome.
And any, the fire damage one that he's got.
And he has been driving it and it's all excited.
He's got this special car.
And it is a really special car.
And so then he tries to enter it this year in Quayle and he got rejected.
So I see on our note here, you have a question of what should you bring to Car Week,
your Rangerover convertible or your SLR, presumably because the SLR, we didn't make it into quail.
Now you have some wiggle room.
Yes and no.
So the challenge is, my Ranger Rover convertible is the ultimate car spotting car.
It is.
And I enjoy half the fun of Car Week is just driving around and seeing like crazy stuff in traffic.
You and I spotted that 4, 5, 6 Venice with your Kuntash doors up.
That was like probably like the best.
five seconds I had
Wow.
Without a woman present.
It's true.
So the car spotting is epic, and the range rover is perfect for that.
However, the other part is driving down the PCH
and blasting, like having fun spirited drives of which the SLR would be perfect.
Here's what you do.
I want to trailer one behind the other, but the L4 or 5 does not have a trailer hitch installed,
and it's a very involved process.
Is it?
How?
It's a car that was a bumper off
and like weld the support thing on
and all that.
Like if it was an option
with the trailer hitch like...
First off,
it's not like...
Phil Chung could do it for you at 48 hours.
I'll bet you anything.
I'm serious.
Yeah.
He's got a welder.
He knows what he's doing.
Phil Chung could get that done for you.
First off, that's a guy we know who does stuff.
HG performance, right?
Yep.
Secondly,
um,
you,
what you should do is you should bring the range,
but make Sam be the one.
who says he wants it.
And that way you can be like,
I'll bring it if you let me borrow your car for some drives.
Because he'll stay,
you should bring the range.
Don't you think?
I think so.
Yeah, I mean,
it benefits the whole group, right?
Because we can squeeze five people in there
and kind of enjoy it and experience it together.
So I feel like the selfless thing to do is to bring the range.
Also,
I don't put any,
I don't want to put that many junk miles on the SLR
in case I do decide to sell it.
To Scottsdale.
It's Monterey's further.
Barely.
Barely, but he's, the problem, the problem is, Felipe, what we've learned is he's coming up on 10,000 miles.
Oh, yeah.
And he's, like, mortified of going over 10,000 miles.
And so...
I'm at, like, 7,400, so it would put another 1,000-plus miles on it.
It's not a big deal.
I mean, I think you'd end up coming back from car we get close to nine if you didn't, drive it up there.
Yeah.
Be a good drive.
It'd be a good drive, but then I would almost be forced to sell it afterwards.
It sounds like you're kind of there, though.
I'm thinking.
I've went out on manual swapping it.
I was going to manual swap it, and then I'm just like, ah.
That's okay, transmission.
Can't handle it anyways?
No, I think it could be done.
I don't think it would be a problem, but it's still just like, it's such a special
finicky car that, like, I just.
I agree.
I would rather just get a manual, I think.
What do you mean?
It's not finicky.
It's, that's the cool thing about it.
That's the specialist.
Aside from my Ford GT, I think that is like the most robust special,
car you can buy.
But it doesn't, the manual is not,
that doesn't feel right for it.
No, I, I, I think it would be great as a manual.
I, I, like, I keep going back and forward.
You're not a manual guy. You're not a manual guy.
All your cars are auto.
I, not the E55.
Well, yeah, but I don't know.
I can't make up my mind there, but it just,
it feels like a big decision.
I got to get rid of some cars before I can start dumping more money into
them because I'm broke.
And then if I'm trying to buy lucid,
you know,
right.
You're about to take it.
Take on what?
I assume those are like $18,000 a piece and they probably have a couple thousand
unsold.
Luce that, that's about $3 billion in debt right now.
Just FYI.
Oh, so maybe I can get it for free.
That's not how that works.
They're like the dude that bought Red Lobster.
He just took out more debt to cover the debt and...
That is actually how it works, right?
And it all you can eat shrimp.
Like, that's just how we do it.
I thought he brought it back.
They dead, yeah.
No.
That was a new leader that brought it back after fixing the problems.
Maybe that's part of the strategy, too, including with the problem.
with Nikolub, you do something bad,
and then you bring back the good stuff,
and then people love you.
All you can eat shrimp while you get your oil changed,
only at Nickylob.
Nick, there's a partnership opportunity for you.
Yeah, yeah, we'll have great toilets.
Okay, what else we got?
Any other talk cars?
You were just in Alaska and Victoria.
Yeah, there's not, there's not,
it was a good pallet cleanser before Car Week,
did not see a lot of cars.
There was, I mean, part of it's being on a cruise ship,
there's not a lot of cars.
There's not a lot of cars.
Yeah, no.
Victoria, I saw a lot of Mitsubishi Outlanders, Kiyas and Hayondais.
Not a huge car scene in Victoria from what I saw.
Alaska had a lot of trucks.
I saw you drove a truck to the office today?
Yeah, I drove my truck, 1973, Ford F250, my wife's truck, I should say.
It's there behind me because it's running great.
Thanks to our friends at AutoZone.
Thank you for finally driving it.
You got tires?
You got tires on there?
There are four tires in there.
There's two more in the bed.
So what, do you have new tires on the truck or not?
I didn't say new.
Just there are four tires on it, one on each wheel, and two more in the bed.
Honestly, just drive it to one of the blues out.
It is dangerous to other road.
I agree.
Luckily, the office is very close to my house.
I don't think that makes a difference.
That's like the people who say, oh, my kid doesn't have to wear a helmet.
We're only going to wherever.
And I don't agree with that fundamentally.
But I feel okay with this.
But new wheels and tires are coming very soon.
Well, it better be really soon.
Because you drive around on 30-year-old tires.
We don't know the age.
So it could be 28.
They're a little old, they're unsafe.
I did get told by somebody I was negotiating on Facebook Marketplace for a set of
show up in that, yeah.
For that truck, the other cars.
And I asked for a date code on the tires because I wasn't going to buy more old tires.
And he said, I don't have a date code, but my used tire guy told me that the date codes are kind of a lie.
And they're okay as long as they've tread, as long as they're under 30.
30 years old. And I was like, nope. Not how that works, not factually accurate. It turns out to be
a little bit more complicated than we all think. You know, maybe I told you this, but I read through
the Paul Walker police report on the anniversary, which was like 10 months ago. And the police report
went to the manufacturer of the tire that was on the car because a lot has talked about how the tires
were old. And the tire manufacturer said that the tires should be okay for 10 years. And we all
For us, it's like five.
And that's in the police report.
But for us, it's like, oh, my God, after five years, you got to change the tire.
That's not what the manufacturer of the tire said, which was kind of interesting.
Now, in that case, they were 20 years old.
But the real factor of that car was that it was going 93 miles an hour and a 35.
Yeah.
Anyway, get new tires.
Yes, we're coming.
You got any other car?
Or can we move on to the market port?
I got a lot to say.
Let's let us move on.
I want to start with the Evo.
Can you pull up the Evo, whoever's got the thing?
Of course.
Guys, we sold an Evo.
Is it gone?
Who bought it?
It is still here in the office for right now, but it's getting shipped out very soon.
Is it going?
I thought, where's it going?
I don't recall.
Oh, we'll never know where this is.
I hope it's going to the Evo and the World, the Global Evo Museum.
It's going to the Evo museum.
You guys can't disclose that.
It's a violation of HIPAA.
No, but it is incredibly cool.
140 grand.
Yep.
$140,000 for a very, very low.
early Evo. I'll tell you something, of all the cars I've ever reviewed, maybe only seven of
them have made me actually want to purchase the car. And this was one of them. And about five of the
other ones I actually have bought. And I won at Evo bad. This car was so great. $140,000 for this car.
It was like 600 miles or 800 miles. 800. 900. It's something. I will say it's the highest Evo 8 result
by about 50, 60 grand. To be fair, it's also the nicest Evo 8, surely. It's a
in existence.
Quite a result, though.
Nick, what would you, how bad do you want on Evo 8?
I have to say, both seeing it in person and looking at these fantastic photos, I want one.
I'm with you.
Black wouldn't be my first choice.
I'd want some more miles so that I could really toss it around.
But they are so cool.
They're also so good.
I imagine you didn't drive this one, Nick, but they are so good to drive.
I was shocked by how much fun it was.
Felipe won't let me drive the cars in the office.
of insurance. Well, not the 900-mile Evo. I only drove it myself like five miles, but it was enough.
It's funny because I just drove it back-to-back. I had that O-4 STI that we had in the office, which was
also like 300 miles. And I drove them basically back-to-back, like a month apart. I mean, it was really,
really close for car reviewer Doug time. And the Evo is, the Evo was just more athletic. It felt more
athletic, which is funny because I've always been a Subaru, like between the two, I've always
been the W-R-X guy, like my heart. And I actually came away preferring how that Evo drove. It felt a little
harder. It felt a little more frenetic, more frenzied, more like an athlete. I really enjoyed your
video on this one, in particular driving segment where you go into that, because I can just tell
knowing you so well that you were truly having fun. Yeah. Like some cars I can tell you're just like
in there because you need to review it. And like that car, you were like, you were legit. You weren't
just like wearing your tennis whites like running an errand. You were like, I am driving this and I am
loving it and you were present and in the moment. I could just tell that you, you were in your
your yourself. Totally. And I'll tell you, I didn't have the Evo on my list of cars I
want until I drove it. And now it is like probably, when I finally replaced my Super
which I've owned now for several months and I've enjoyed some of them, when I finally
replaced that, I hope it's with a nice Evo. It's very hard to find nice Evo 8 and 9.
Because a lot of them got modded like crazy and a lot of crazy stuff happened to
them. There's a lot of stories out there. But it'd be cool to get a nice one.
I have a question, right? So we did sell the two competitors, both of four, the two
small, compact sports sedans.
And the similar mileage,
both unmodified, the WRXSCI
was by far the more like famous color.
107 versus 140.
Clearly the market is saying something about
Evo preference here.
Yeah, I think the market views the Evo is more special.
That's also true of the older ones.
If you look at the Evo Vs and Sixes, they sell for way more.
I am continually astonished, honestly.
One of the cheapest cars I think we sell
relative to what I think it should be worth
is when we sell those early and present WRXs and STIs
that are imported from Japan, the 90s ones.
It was that that Imprazo was sold from like 92 to 01, at least in the States.
Those cars, I think, are so unbelievably cheap.
We'll sell, like, a clean STI for, like, 8,800 bucks or something.
And it's right-hand drive, but it's like a nice car otherwise.
And I sit there and watch those results.
And every time a good one comes across, I honestly think about throwing in a bid
and just having one just to kind of screw around in for a couple of months.
Yeah.
I wonder if some of that for the Evo love is.
related to the fact that it died, right?
The Evo 10 was the end of it.
They don't make more of them.
I wonder if Subaru values, W-R-S-C-I values,
would be higher if they didn't till 2020.
I mean, I have a suspicion there are also a lot more super.
Yeah.
I don't know the numbers,
but I just from looking around,
I bet you there's like a lot more Subaru.
Doug is so back on cars that he's color-swapping a 4-G-T
and considering throwing his hat-in on Subaru's and Mitsubishi's.
Yep.
This is wild.
Not Subaru, just the Mitsubishi.
But only once I'm done with my super ownership.
I'm only three months into my super ownership.
I want to be clear.
And it's been a great three months.
Honestly, it truly has.
But I'm not ready to-
It hasn't broken down once.
It hasn't broken down.
It hasn't stranded me.
What's the cost of ownership in like?
Zero, because it is a fantastic car.
Fantastic car.
Let's talk about the F80.
Philippe, pull it up.
Let's do that indeed.
We sold yesterday
a BMWM3 with no miles 430 miles 6 speed manual competition package
Tantree Blue for $95,500.
This is the highest used F80 result we can find.
I will say incredibly, somebody optioned this car to $97,000.
So it did depreciate Realtz at RISP, which is just 98,000 really.
Wow.
So the 3 grand of that was a Silverstone accent trim.
Wow.
It is quite a spectout car, but clearly retaining value for a car that an automatic FADM3 would be half the MSRP.
You know, we had that crazy E92M3 sale the other day, and the other place sells some BMWs, and we've sold a couple of E39M5s really well, and something interesting hit me.
BMW has been trying to make a sports car since I've been alive.
There was the M1, there was the Z8, there was the M4 GTS.
they've always tried to capitalize on all these GT3 type cars and they've never been successful.
All those cars were kind of flops.
And the market seems to appreciate the really good examples of just the regular M cars.
Like it's almost like it's enough for enthusiasts.
It's like, hey, wait a minute, you don't have to make an M4 GTS for us to love you.
And that E92M3 that we sold the other day was proof of that.
This car is proof of that.
There's been a lot of recent high BMW sales that have all kind of pointed to the fact that there are enthusiasts out there who really do.
like these cars and want to spend up for them.
And where, like, I am a little surprised about this
because you could go out and buy a G80M3
that still has a manual transmission, still similar.
But there's something that people are loving
about the slightly smaller size of that phaity.
Like every M3 gets a little bigger, looks a little worse maybe.
There's something people are loving clearly about this era,
the E90 era, where it's maybe a little bit more compact,
a little bit more of what you associate as a BNWM3.
Plus, if you're doing a BMW M3 museum.
Right.
For example, can I talk about one other car that's live right now?
Yeah.
We have an earth romer.
Live right now.
Do you know about this earth roamer, Nick?
Only from the Key Channel.
Yeah, our friend on the Key Channel did a really great drive across parts of Colorado
with what with two of them.
Neither of the ones they drove, though, was this one.
This is like the big boy.
Apparently I had up about a $1.7 million, $1.8 million sticker.
Dang.
price.
It is their largest to my understanding model.
Pull up some interior your photos.
Let's see what it looks like in there.
Nick, Nick, you ever think about living in one of these?
Not in this particular one, although I was offered a, like a fifth wheel that I'm seriously
considering.
This is different.
No, it looks, inside it looks similar to that.
Like, it looks like a standalone RV.
You are considering a fifth wheel?
You are, what are you going to pull it with?
Well, that's whatever my wife's new car is.
I support this for you, I think.
I assume it'll be parked in like the side of your house as every fifth wheel is.
No, that's the other part.
I don't have parking or a tow vehicle.
But other than that, it's the fifth wheel.
And by you were offered, what does that mean?
Like, you found one on Facebook Marketplace?
No, my dad has one that he bought new.
It has only moved once from his property.
And I've been told that if I'm capable of removing it, I can have it.
Okay.
I'm not capable of removing it.
Yes.
This will be a sound on.
Weight cooler if I had 1.8.
Luckily, they don't hold the...
Reserve is a little less.
A little less.
They do all their own woodwork.
Yeah, it's gorgeous.
Apparently, the actual camper is carbon fiber
for weight reasons.
Wow.
And, like, virginity reasons.
Good thing, that's not going to go down
like the Titans submersible to the Titanic.
Yeah.
Earth rovers are the, like,
pinnacle of the luxury, do everything.
RVs, and this is the pinnacle of the Earth rovers.
I'm excited that we have it.
And I just, like,
this is more space than a lot of houses
and it costs more than a lot of houses.
Where is it located?
Where is it located?
It's here in San Diego.
Really?
Oh my gosh.
Nick, this is your opportunity.
Step up.
It is the ideal vehicle for like if you lived in Wyoming
or somewhere with a lot of space
where you're going on like road trips
like you want to go fly fishing
and a remote destination.
You bring your hotel or your campground with you basically.
And it's the most luxurious hotel you could want fundamentally.
It is truly just.
So nice to finish.
Oh, I used to King Ranch.
They used a King Ranch.
Yeah, yeah.
I don't joke around.
That's ball of.
Earth Rommers are the coolest things in the world.
I grew up in Colorado.
I remember, see him around here and there, but only like when you went up to like Yellowstone and
like Rocky Mountain National Park and places like that.
That's where people are using them.
They're really, really, really cool.
They're very special vehicles.
This one is serious.
I assume it's four-wheel drive.
Yeah, of course.
It is really nice inside.
It is quite a better than your home.
I know.
Think about all your sliding doors that are.
kind of off their track.
Like, this could be your home.
Hey, man, we have luxury vinyl planks, all right?
They have actual wood.
Luxury.
It's not luxury wood.
It is just what?
I think that they say luxury vinyl plank.
Plank is supposed to make you think it's as good as wood.
Yeah.
It's not.
It's more good.
Yeah, luxury vinyl is still below just regular old wood.
You understand.
It's your luxury vinyl.
You might argue that.
Because this has radiant floors.
Yeah.
No, this is pretty legit.
I'm not joking.
It's truly cool.
You want to mention the 996 briefly.
We sold it 996 for a ton of as it deserved to be.
We sold this for Evo money.
Nick,
sold it for Evo money.
Nick, I sold the 996 turbo in 2012 for 34,000 United States dollars.
I know that was the thing.
It was always known as the bargain 9-11.
And obviously this one is incredibly low miles,
incredibly well presented.
It is representative of the top of the market.
But, I mean, there was a time where the idea of a 996 turbo selling for six figures was laughable.
And now, I mean, we're pushing, you know, after fees 160 plus for this one.
Pretty wild.
It's an incredibly nice one, obviously, right?
50 package, 21,000 miles, red.
But the 996 market, we talked about this last week, I think, when this was still live.
Like, it is up.
It is up.
It's up more than we may be realized.
By the way, shout out to the buyer, who is also the buyer of our NSX.
He's building quite a collection of cars.
And now he has a 320,000 mile NSX and a 21,000 mile 996.
Dang.
996 Turbo, don't sleep on it, folks.
All the Porsches are going up, whether they should or not.
Yep.
I'm not disputing that or debating it.
Okay, I want to move on to the questions.
The questions, of course, are brought to you by Nikki Loeb for Loco.
Nicky.
You too can ask us a question.
Go to cars and bids.com, click on the community tab,
and there will be a post there whenever Ryan Lopez gets around to doing it
that says, ask us your questions.
I have to say, this week's questions are the finest questions
we've ever had in our entire history of the Cars and Bids podcast.
We've been doing this podcast for it feels like 25 years,
and these questions were the very fine.
finest of them all. And let's get to them.
Let's.
Okay. First question from Larry C-88. Hey guys, what were some of your favorite racing video games
growing up? I played Cruze and World on N64. Nick, you got any favorite racing video games?
Cruise and World was great. I agree with that. I love the F-355 challenge simulators. If I was
in an arcade.
I was an N64 guy, so
it's hard to pick a favorite there.
I also really love whenever I see the Fast and the Furious
arcade games.
Big fan of that.
Felipe,
did you ever play any of these games?
I mean, have I played?
Sure, but like not regularly.
Like, Neat for Speed or Grants River 3 or 4 or whatever.
Cruise and World is the one where it ended at the White House
and, like, Bill Clinton was in the roof in a hot tub.
Like, it was very non-polical.
That was the ballroom.
point. Like, it was, it was clearly not Hillary. Like, it was just random women. Like, imagine
doing that in a video game now? I, um, I played all the video games. I had PlayStation.
Grand Turismo, you know, changed my life. I have a, I've been a multi-month super owner
because of it. I love the R34. I love all those cars. Grand Turismo, like, really was a big
component of that. But my very favorite video game of all time is a video game called the Getaway.
Filippo, do you know this about me?
I did not know this about you.
I think I know the video game.
The video game is called The Getaway, and it was based in London.
And this was before there were a lot of video games that sort of you could walk,
if you could like free roam around a map of a place.
And this video game was based in London,
and you could play the storyline, or you could just drive around London.
And also the game offered turn signals, which very few, for the cars,
which very few games do.
for literally hours a day, every day, I would just drive around London.
And to the point where, like, even to this day, I could probably pretty well guide you around the main central part of London just from my memory and knowledge of this game.
Could you do the knowledge?
That's basically what it was, honestly.
The taxi drivers didn't even need to do that.
They could just play the game for a few weeks.
But I loved this game.
There were a bunch of different kind of crappy cars in it,
and I spent so much time.
I got more video game miles than a Vexall Vectra
than basically any other car.
I want to get a shout out to a couple of computer games.
There was bus driver where you drove a bus.
There was truck simulator.
There was also a German drivering test driver like training game
where you drove around an E363 series around like Munich or something of that.
There were some good games.
that era. They weren't really playing video games, but they were, they were high class.
You played truck simulator, you? Of course. Not often. I didn't play very many, many video games of any
type. What'd you do? Sometimes. What'd you do with? I did more, more bus driver than truck
simulator, obviously. But like, if you weren't playing video games, what were you doing out there in
Philippa? I read a lot, spend time outside. You'd spend time outside. You'd spend time outside.
You just go outside and spend time.
I would bike around.
Sometimes I would bike around and read at the same time, which in retrospect was not the best idea, but it worked.
You know, I tried to bike the other day while texting.
Have you ever done that?
For legal purposes, no.
For real purposes, most of the time that I'm biking, if I'm not on a road, yes.
Next question from Ian Greer, and this is a great, great segue to Doug in the group.
What were the early days with your driver's license like?
What were your dumbest or luckiest car stories from your youth?
Nick, I'm sure you've done some really dumb things.
Go ahead and tell us about them.
I think I can't incriminate myself.
Tell the one where your wheel fell off.
Yeah, I mean, that was a good one.
Fast and the Furious had come out.
I wanted to paint my calipers red because a lot of them.
What car?
What car was this?
95 Ford Explorer, sport.
Sport.
To be clear, sport was not sportier.
It was a two door.
And it was red, much like that.
It was a coupe.
He was a rear wheel driver.
I mean, what do you want?
Was it not four-wheel drive?
I took out the floor mats for weight savings.
Like, you're creative when you have a limited budget.
Those cars back in that era, Philippa,
but were rear-wheel drive until you switch them into four-wheel drive.
He lived in the north.
I assumed four-wheel drive.
I guess he was able to enable four-wheel drive.
He's driving around in a rear-wheel drive, you know,
two-door bright red.
Okay, so what happened?
I didn't tighten the lug nuts all the way.
A wheel flew off at 45 miles an hour.
Thankfully, it did not hit the upcoming traffic,
but it crossed over the medium
and it bounced a bunch before coming off.
Did you recover the wheel?
Yes.
It was not reusable.
Like I had to find another KMC 18-inch chrome wheel.
They had aftermarket wheels on this, of course.
18s were like big at that stage too.
I wrecked that car five times.
Well, when I got backed into,
I hit a telephone pole twice, two different poles.
No, I just, just,
clear some of day.
One was snow and ice.
One I avoided an accident
and then like had to hit
a telephone pole instead.
I don't think you avoided an accident then.
Well,
the lady like turned left in front of me.
That one I was not at fault.
It was the only one of the five.
You got backed into it.
They kept rebuilding it.
And so then my sister gets it as a hand me down.
And she's like, mom, dad, like,
this car's kind of janky.
Like it does not run right.
And they're like, oh, you'd just be grateful.
You have a car.
You're spoiled or whatever.
then my dad drives it once.
My sister was never allowed to drive it again.
They immediately traded.
Like, it just nothing ever worked.
Like, if your car's on the verge of getting totaled,
this is why I always say, like, make sure it gets totaled.
You do not want it back if it was on life support.
And then, especially if it's been wrecked like four or five times,
like there's no bringing that back,
especially at 95 Ford Explorer to anything remotely considering,
like a factory ride quality again.
Um, Felipe, what was the stupidest thing you ever did as a,
teen driver.
Did a lot of donuts in the snow, but that's...
Really?
Stupid.
Of course.
Wisconsin snows a lot.
You got a Honda pilot.
It's got an all-wheel drive.
Do some four-wheel donuts.
My stupidest thing was putting three 12-inch jail subwoovers in the back.
Yeah, that sounds right.
And then bumping Nelly as a suburban white kid in Ohio.
But that's what all the suburban white kids in Ohio.
The amount of attraction I generated for no reason.
Like, I thought I was so cool.
I had, what do you call that, the frosted tips?
Did you really?
Long hair, bumping Nelly.
Like, it's embarrassing to think about this image right now.
I think everybody.
Yeah, but I can totally see it.
What did you do, Doug?
I got a ticket when I was 16 years old for going 76 miles an hour in a 35 zone.
Did you know that?
Did that not get your provisional license?
No.
That's rough.
Back at 16 in Colorado, you got a full license then.
All those provisional requirements came after I got my driver's license.
Almost right after, like within five years, there were all these rules about, you know, you have X number of points and until you're this age and you can't drive it passengers in the car, but I didn't have any of those rules.
And so I got that ticket and it was, they basically, I got sentenced to community service, believe it or not.
Which I did at the public library.
Which was great, honestly.
Speaking of restrictions, you know what I learned this week?
Or maybe I knew, but was reminded of.
you cannot technically drive in Manhattan
unless you're 18.
Or any of the five boroughs, actually.
Wow.
Nick, don't go to Staten Island anytime soon.
I don't think I would be wanting to drive
as a 16-year-old in Manhattan anyways.
Maybe you live in Staten Island.
It's probably good.
I doubt they really run into that problem.
Yeah, I doubt they enforce it either.
Interesting.
You know, Pili-Bo, one time I was with my friend Joe
in an 80-ser and we were doing Donuts
in a church parking lot and got a ticket.
A police officer cited us.
Is that the Joe that Hoovie finds attractive?
I'm not going to comment on that whole thing anymore.
It's gotten a little crazy.
Okay.
Next question for Burling and Bill.
For Doug and his team members,
Doug Revere's the Kuntash is the favorite car he owns.
Yes, the greatest car of all time, actually.
Both Doug and Nick have praised the Mercy of Lago
with a great value super car.
Yet no one talks about
the Diablo? Why do you in the market see the Diablo as less significant or valuable? To start,
the market does not see the Diablo as less valuable than the Mercy of Lago. The Diablo, generally
speaking, most, the average Diablo is worth more than the average Mercya Lago. Generally speaking,
Nick, why don't you answer why we're not bigger Diablo people.
Ownership experience. I pursued a Diablo. I wanted to buy Adbolians. I actually drove it.
I really loved it. I talked my friend Matt into getting a Diablo.
over a Mercilago or at least didn't stop him from it.
But they are incredibly...
The Mercilago is actually a very pleasant, easy ownership experience.
There's a few gotchas, but for the most part,
like, it runs when you want it to run.
It's pretty well-supported, both aftermarket and OEM.
The Diablo is in this no-man's land of like 90s Lamborghini
and like random dudes owning the company,
then Chrysler owning the company,
and like, parts spin specials,
and you basically have to send it to George Evans
in Columbus for anything more than an oil chain.
Shout out, George.
It is a very expect,
like, you should expect to spend tens of thousands of dollars per year
on a Diablo maintenance.
On a mercy, maybe that over the total lifespan.
The kuntash is also expensive to own.
Or at least that's the theory.
It hasn't been my finding, but,
but, and this is the second part of your point, probably,
the kuntash is cooler.
I mean, I think that the truth of,
matter is, the mercy is the best of all worlds because it's an awesome, crazy, in your face,
amazing thing, but it's not that bad to own. The kuntash is the coolest. I mean, there's no
question. The shape is the coolest, the history, the cultural experience. And so to me,
it is more worth putting up with the ownership issues. The Diablo, while still incredibly cool,
is not as cool as the kuntash. And while probably a little easier to own than a kuntash is not as
easy to own as a mercy. You could look at it as sort of a compromise in between, but when I'm
talking about a wedge-shaped Lambo, I'm not really looking to make a compromise. Like, I either
want one that I can use a lot like the mercy or one that is just so insane like the Kuntash.
I love the Diablo. I think the SE 30 is amazingly cool. I was on that train long before
anybody else. And I think it's just... What was that luck for?
People have talked up the SE30, even though I had a model of it on my desk when I was in
college in 2009.
Anyway, that's how I feel.
If having Dicast is claiming
that it would be there early, I've also
been big on Diablo. I will say the
mercy's on a huge rise right now.
I regret selling mine because I think it would be
worth more now. The other
site sold a low mileage
but an eager car for
mid-700s.
There may be a world in the
not so far future where mercies
are fetching more than the Kuntash,
especially since Kuntas have been pretty
stagnant. I think Diablo's have always been across the board because there were so many variations,
like the early ones are rear-wheel drive, then you had the all-wheel drive, then you had the six-oes,
then you had the pop-up versus non-pop-ups. Both the Kuntash and Diablo require a certain level
of sophistication to understand the differences between all the cars. That is certainly true.
It's complicated. It would be like me trying to buy a, like a special watch. Like I know nothing
and I'd be overwhelmed. And I think that that kind of problem kind of presents itself in the Kuntash and
Diablo world.
To me, it's just, for the people who I know who have owned them have had a lot of problems,
more than my kuntosh, if I'm being honest.
Although I think that may not be entirely like the general truth, but at least as many.
And yes, Lamborghini had multiple owners then.
The cars were getting more electronics then.
And I just don't think it's as cool.
Like if I had to choose between the kuntash and Diablo to use, to have, it's not even close.
Like, I think the kuntash is.
I personally, and the Diablo is.
A. I agree with you, although I would buy the Diablo. If I could get like a nice 6-0 or whatever,
partly because you have the Kuntosh and I couldn't give you that win if I followed in your footsteps.
But for me, like as a 90s kid, the Diablo has a special place on my heart. The Kuntash,
I was still like in utero. It didn't imprint on that same level. Yeah, I thought I would feel
the same way. But the time I've spent when my car has just completely changed my life in a way that
I never thought it would. No, I'm happy that you're so happy. To be clear, Diablo, still in
incredibly cool. Just a little bit of the in-between child.
From Mark 433, on this same topic, from Mark 433,
hi Doug and friends, you're a Kuntash owner. Why do you think the Testerosa,
despite being the Kuntosh's main competitor, isn't as valuable today or as widely regarded?
I think about this a lot, actually, because Ferraris, generally speaking,
the Ferrari corresponding to the Lamborghini is worth more money.
In almost every case, the corresponding Ferrari to Lamborghini, the Ferrari is worth more money.
except for Kuntash Testerosa where it's not even really close.
You can still buy a Testerosa pretty easily for 200.
Kuntas are at least 4, 5, 6 to a million.
No Testerosa is coming up to that number.
It's kind of surprising.
And to me it's because the Kuntash is way cooler.
The kuntash is also way less common.
There's like 12,000 Testeroses and there's only 2,000 Kuntasas.
There are 12,000 Testerosos.
Well, they made them for forever.
They made him from like 83 to 90.
if you count the F512Ms.
They were in production for a long time.
Kuntash, I just think, is a cooler car.
It was like the cultural icon of its time.
In a way, the Testerosa wasn't quite, in my mind.
Fair. I don't disagree with that.
I do think that Testeroso, though, is, it is a value.
I think they're way cool.
I think they're slept on.
I mean, speaking of video games that we mentioned earlier,
who didn't play Outrun and just stare,
at the taillights of one forever.
They are just, there's something about the styling
that it's so ridiculously 90s, that it's cool again.
I could just, I could stare at that.
Like, I personally think this would be a really fun car.
If I didn't want to go for a Kuntosh and spend the money,
like this, this, to me, presents 80% plus of that experience
at a fraction of the cost.
Hey, Nikki Lou, why don't you consider one of these?
They're like, they're like cheaper than an SLR.
You can sell your car.
I might.
I hear our good friends.
Kenan R has one in the pipeline.
And actually I know the current owner of it,
who's also a really cool guy, Dylan.
So I'm not saying that I'm going to bid on it,
but I'm not saying I'm not going to bid on it.
So we'll see.
I mean, I think it'd be pretty cool for you.
It's like kind of up your alley.
It really is, and it would be an interesting first Ferrari.
Yeah.
Suprium Valley, too.
Two more questions, two more questions, two more questions.
From Troy Legacy GT, Dear Doug,
what can you tell us about your time as a Saturday and 16th?
salesman.
Folks, I sold Saturn's.
Nick, you're aware of this, right?
Yep.
Oh, yeah.
I sold Saturn's when I was in college.
I was a Saturn salesman.
Felipe's dream job, I might add.
Well, because it's a no-haggle position.
So I worked at the Saturn dealership in Decatur, Georgia,
which has been rebranded as Stivers Subaru.
Felipe, you could pop down there and sell Subrues right now.
And it was great.
I worked there in the heart of the recession when Saturn was absolutely going out of business,
and it was a disaster.
I only sold one car in like three months there.
It was not a Saturn.
No one was buying the Saturns.
I still wonder to this day what happened to all the outlooks we had.
You sold one car in three months?
Philippo, I want you.
Well, three months.
I mean, I was in college, so I only could come into the dealership like two days a week or something like that.
And it was a use part.
Huh?
Why did they employ you?
because the other people weren't exactly doing better.
No one wants that job in terms of the commissions and the product you're pushing.
Like you have to find the lowest of the barrel.
This was summer of 2009 or spring of 2009, like right, the worst part of the recession.
And it was Saturn, which was kind of on the brink of going down.
Everybody kind of knew that.
It was always going to be a problem.
Now, Felipe, can you name the final Saturn lineup?
Yeah, you bet.
There was the Saturn view.
We had the Mexican built view, which was the Chevy Captiva Sport.
And after Saturn ended, it actually continued as the Chevy Captiva Sport.
Okay, you got one.
The Saturn aura.
The Saturn aura.
Yep.
The Saturn Ion.
Still exists, I believe.
The what?
The ion still exists.
The ion was gone.
The ion was gone.
It was replaced by a different entry-level Saturn.
Do you remember what it was?
I will get there.
Oh, of course.
The Astra.
The Astra.
which was a great product with a mediocre engine
I love the Astro in Europe
the outlook and was the relay still for sale in 2009
Relay was not for sale but you're forgetting the big one
the cool one, the one everybody came into the showroom to see
the Saturn Sky yeah you're right
we have one sky we had one sky and people were coming by
just to like see how low we'd go on some of these cars
in theory by the way Saturn's model was the same
as Sion's which we won't actually haggle right
We won't negotiate
Yeah yeah
I think it was a good model.
That was Saturn at the end.
I remember we had an Astra.
There were no sunroof in the U.S. Astras.
And so we had a guy come and cut a sunroof into it,
which back in the day was pretty standard practice at dealerships,
but I don't think they do that anymore.
No, thankfully.
What was the one car you sold?
It was a used Hyundai Allentra.
Nice.
What year?
Like an 11.
Oh, nice.
No, it couldn't have been 11.
It was in 09.
It must have been like an 06, no 5.
That was a good, was it a hashback or it?
Both were offered.
It was a Ford or sedan.
We even had a used L-300 on the lot, which was great because that really rounded out kind of the whole product portfolio.
Type in Saturn.
See if we sold any Saturns on the website.
It is amazing that you went from such humble beginnings as a used car salesman to running the number one website to buy a cherry red 996 turbo.
Wait a minute.
This was a new car dealership.
Okay, I want to be clear about that.
This was a new car.
But you only sold a used car.
So you were a used car salesman.
Well, I suppose that's true.
We sell a lot of skies, which is like cool.
We sell some others.
SC2 and LW1.
SC2.
Those were the days, man, I'm telling you.
An ion years ago.
Now, do you remember when the ion came out in 2003,
the theory was you could interchange the roof panels?
Do you remember this so that you could have different colors?
Do you remember the roof?
Obviously, it was still like the plastic composite, whatever.
Yeah.
2003 ion, the roof rails.
were could be swapped out for roof rails of a different color.
And type in 2003 Saturn Ion.
You'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
And it was supposed to be like doable by the consumer at any time.
And of course, no person ever did it.
And I think even by 2004, it was completely gone.
Yeah, there you go.
Was it just a coop?
What's that?
Yeah.
Well, in 2003, I think there may have only been a coop.
But that was that was supposed to be.
I miss Saturn.
Love Saturn.
No, you don't.
No, that Saturn Ion was a tragically bad product.
Final question.
Actually, we'll do two more quick questions.
Two more quick ones, Filippo.
From Uncle Bubbles, hello Doug and friends.
Since Doug always qualifies everyone else's cars with cheeky insults,
like bad-colored G-Wagon, bad-wheeled 9-11 Targa,
the TTS that Nick Money Shifted, TTRS, the fire-damaged SLR.
Shouldn't we start referring to the Kuntash as the car that Doug crashed into his garage?
No.
And the reason we can't do that,
Pallipo, tell him why we can't do that.
Doug crashes 4GT into head of garage.
I've crashed multiple cars into my garage.
Wait, did you hit your garage with the Kuntash, too?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I get the garage with the Kuntosh, hit the garage with the Ford GT.
I've actually, I scraped the tire cover on the G-wagon with the door going down.
I've had a lot of incidents in there.
Yeah, so it would be too common of one.
Yeah.
You know, when they lay out all those insults, you kind of sound a little mean.
Oh, I sound mean.
Has anybody ever talked to you?
I think if you guys had an HR, I might be filing a complaint.
We do have an HR.
Do you?
I am the HR.
You're the HR?
Yeah.
Has anyone ever filed a complaint against Doug?
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
I think he needs sensitivity training.
I'll conduct it.
This is a legitimate question.
This is a legitimate question.
And I think that we should address it because it's a real question.
From Baxter 8279,
Why are McLaren's labeled as rich guy go fast cars?
They are bought by people who actually drive them.
They have maintenance issues which makes them difficult to own,
and they provide exceptional driving experiences.
Yes, they are flashy, but isn't that true of almost every enthusiast supercar?
Someone who buys a McLaren seems to making the classic enthusiast trade-offs
to get a great driving car.
It's an interesting question.
It's an interesting question.
That guy definitely doesn't own a McLaren.
Yeah, definitely not.
For the record, there are a lot of rich guy go-fast cars.
I would argue...
We make fun of McLaren's because
the whole lineup is rich guy go fast.
But I would argue that almost all of the modern,
it used to be,
here's how it used to be when I was a kid.
All right.
Yeah.
You want to the Ferrari dealers?
You can't buy a car.
Can't buy a car at the dealership for God's sake.
You got to know a couple people.
You got to have had a 612.
You have to have a Margarotti.
You couldn't buy a Mondial unless you knew somebody at the Ferrari dealership.
Well, that wasn't when I was a kid.
That was earlier.
So anyway.
And also, you know,
There was a panache to that experience, right?
There was something to that.
Now, anybody can stride into a McLaren dealer and get one for 25 grand off.
You know, that's part of it.
Fair.
There's like an availability issue.
Availability is legitimately part of it, because what I think of rich guy go fast, I think of,
I just sold my company yesterday.
I got a lot of money and I want to look cool.
What can I do?
And you go to Ferrari, they don't have any cars.
So you go to McLaren and they're like, we got this blue one.
and it's 25 grand off and is really fast
and you could be driving it this afternoon.
And that's why it hits me.
He does make some good points though.
Like, McLarens are bought to drive a lot more
than the other cars.
Yeah.
You don't see a ton of low mile.
Right.
No one's preserving them.
They're putting tunes on it and downpikes.
They're driving up.
I should support.
Putting their Instagram handle on their rear windows.
Yeah.
They're good cars, too, but.
I don't necessarily think that rich guy go fast
is necessarily a negative attachment.
It definitely is.
Well, because what's the option?
Like, annoying rich guy put in closet?
Like, that's what a lot of the Ferraris are, the Carrera GT.
You know what I mean?
You get my point.
Sorry, annoying and rich guy was put in the closet?
No, no, the guy wasn't put in the closet.
The car was put in the closet.
All these cars now, all the cars that we hail as the great icons, like the Carrier
GT and the F40 and F50, their rich guy goes zero.
That's what those cars are.
I mean, it's why we also don't like the rich guys who get a more rare version of the car they currently own because they think it looks cooler.
Like the Ford GT heritage?
It's in that same.
Yeah, like that.
Yeah, okay.
I hadn't thought about that, but yes.
Same as a class.
I think there's also like an availability of speed thing broadly where like, why do you buy a McClarence?
Because a lot of cars are fast.
All cars are fast at some extent.
You buy because you want the best performance.
You want the fastest.
How do you get there?
You just need to have money.
Like, that's the only barrier to entry to Doug's point.
I don't love cars in general where the sole barrier to entry is that you're rich.
I think that to me there's always like a not.
I think that's how the market works.
It's not, though, because the kuntosh, which is sitting behind you, is often purchased by
rich guys who think the sole barrier to entry is being rich.
And then they cannot handle the car, a Hamilton guy.
There's a bunch of those guys, right?
They literally cannot handle, like not having a dealership and Bluetooth.
and a cup holder and like a dealer you can take it to when there's a problem and you get it back.
Like there is more to a lot of these cars than just being rich.
And I think a lot of the rich guys, oh, my Bugatti's coming next.
Oh, my RIMAC is coming.
I ordered this.
I ordered that.
To me, that doesn't require like a level of even enthusiast interest.
It just means I'm rich and I want to prove myself with these new, brand new toys.
And I think there's something special about like getting a real enthusiast car that requires like real enthusiasm.
even the 4GT, which is pretty easy to own,
or even Nix SLR, like, you have to know,
you kind of got to know what you're doing.
Those are special cars,
and you have to know what you're doing with those cars.
Yeah, but I think the person asking the question
makes a legitimate point that McLaren's actually
are kind of difficult to own, ultimately.
They're a little fragile, they're a little buggy.
Like, if you want no drama, no complicated,
I mean, I guess under warranty, maybe you could argue
it's somewhat easier,
but even then, like, no one wants to deal with taking your car
into the dealership, getting the entertainment system
rebooted for the eighth time.
Like, there are easier rich guy go fast experiences.
There is some difficulty, especially at a certain McLaren's.
I kind of agree with the premise.
I don't, I think, I think we have conflated the type of people who buy McLarence
who are often obnoxious people and brought the whole brand down with it, much like
cyber trucks, you know, like, hey, like, it's actually a really cool car.
It's just the type of people that buy it.
Do you want to hear my cyber truck joke?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Can we keep it in the podcast?
You know, you know the real problem with the cyber truck?
What's that, Nick?
Not enough room for all the chicks you're going to get.
Yikes.
And when they come up, you know, you're at a traffic light.
I'm stealing this from someone, by the way.
We can give them credit.
You're at the traffic light, you know, women that come up,
can't figure out how the door works.
It's a big problem.
I want to say, speaking of the cyber truck,
I wasn't going to bring this up in the news, but I'm going to now.
It's bad.
You saw that article from Bloomberg?
I saw that article for, for, for,
Blueberg that is basically saying that the cyber truck is the worst relative to sales expectations
set by the manufacturer.
I'm sure.
It's the worst since the Ford Edsel.
Which has kind of been a historical industry like bottom tier, like the Mendoza line in baseball,
like bottom tier, you don't want to go below, you know, the Edsel because that was like
the lowest of the low.
I, the numbers are pretty damning.
And it also gave this article I just read on the beach, gave registration statistics.
And it said something like 7,000 were registered this year.
but no indication of how many of those 7,000 were registered to Elon's companies.
The majority.
Yeah, by all accounts, like that's a huge portion of Cybertruck sales right now.
So things are going well.
It's not the worst selling car, but Tesla expected about $250,000 a year to be sold.
And in the very first year, what did they sell?
38, 39.
38. Didn't do, hasn't really done it well.
No. No.
All right. That's the end of our podcast today.
We haven't got a conclusion about the McLaren thing.
We got a noodle with it.
But I do want to remind everybody that we are, we as a collective, are looking for a Ford GT heritage, 2006 Ford GT heritage.
And if you have one, you send a note over to Sean at Cars &Bids.com.
And I'll tell you this.
If I don't get one within two, three weeks, I'm going to start giving out Felipe's email address.
All right.
And it ain't going to be pretty.
I think based on Sean's email address, you could probably figure out Felipe's without a lot of help.
Saved by the fact that a lot of people misspell my name.
True.
and I don't have aliases set up for it.
We're good.
Nick, I'm going to start giving out your email address, pal.
Get ready.
You better find me in 06 or GT-Harr.
I don't work here.
I'll make you one.
Oh, I got, I know your email.
You think I don't know your email?
You're going to say it right now?
You want me to say it right now?
It's also an uncrackable.
You could never guess it.
Anything you want to plug, Nick?
Yeah, what do you want to plug?
You doing anything?
This is the answer.
I had something good to plug.
How about Nixcarblog.com?
A blog about Audi's.
Well, if you go to nikiloob.com, actually.
How many ads you have on there?
My God.
I, you know, really want to monetize the content that I wrote 10 years ago.
All right, that's the end.
Goodbye, everyone.
Nick, absolute pleasure.
Thank you so much for joining.
Philippo, love you dearly.
Goodbye.
Watch out for those garages, Doug.
