Starting point is 00:01:07 There's a lot to talk about this week, but the biggest news comes from Kenan. Kenan, you're leaving us. I am leaving cars and bids, sort of. So I did a YouTube video going over all of this, but the time has come in my life where I'm ready to try something new. Now, those eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed
Starting point is 00:01:24 that I have represented some cars on cars and bids for other people recently. And this was all to test to see if there's a business case for me to do this on my own, doing my own auction representation for private clients, because that's what I know how to do. It's what I've been doing for the last six years. And I've decided that I want to branch out and do my own thing.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Now, I want to make it abundantly clear that I have had a lot of people reach out. Everybody's been very kind, but I'm not leaving the podcast for the foreseeable future. I will still be here. Doug will still be mocking me. Nick will be just crapping all over the E-39 to make me upset. But I will still be around for the time being. And is... Kenan is departing us in a way.
Starting point is 00:02:00 He will remain in most of our content. I mean, obviously he's, sometimes he's not here. He's traveling, whatever. But, like, he's going to be in pods generally still. We are still stuck with Nick. But Kennard is launching his own new business representing cars for people at auction, which I think is great. Kenan has an enormous amount of experience doing this.
Starting point is 00:02:22 He's worked at an exotic car dealership before, Marshall Goldman, which is a real high-end dealership. He's done a ton of great work for us. He was there the day we started this company, the day we launched. launched it, and he's done a ton of great work for us. He understands the auction business back in front, and he's done a great job already representing a few cars. He had told us he was going to do this, so we were kind of working, we all sort of worked together on it, and he represented a few cars already. They all went fantastically. He does a great job
Starting point is 00:02:51 presenting cars, and I think that the Kenan R auction business, I'm excited to see what happens in the Kenan R car auction representation business. Nick, would you have a car auction representation business? buyer, Kenan? Yeah. Well, we've always said, you know, be the seller you or the buyer you want to the seller, the person you want to buy from. Nick really latched onto that one there. Yeah, be the person you want to buy.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Always said it. Always said it. Exactly like that. Kenan is fastidious almost to a fault. He's always late to things because he's getting everything right and following the procedure, as opposed to me who sells a multiple that's leaking oil and power steering fluid at the same time and like, ah, good enough. enough. Yeah, I was going to say you, I asked if you would hire him and you were like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:03:35 no, you would hire him. I might not take him out as a client. He wouldn't take me, but I would hire him. He probably wouldn't take you and with good reason. Well, but thank you. Thank you for the support. I'm very excited to this. Everybody has been so kind. And I also really want to say, like truly from the bottom of my heart, like working with cars and, working at cars and bids with my friends every day has been one of the greatest journeys of my entire life. I've had so much fun doing this. And this is just the next chapter in what I want to do and how I want to grow. So I'm not going anywhere. I still love Doug and I love Felipeo unless he is talking about Porsches. But other than that, not much is going
Starting point is 00:04:11 to change. We launched cars have been six years ago this week. It was six years ago this week. And so Kenan has put in his time. And he, it makes sense. I mean, I think it's a next sort of logical collusion. This is a small organization. There's not an enormous amount of room for growth. At some point, Kenan wants to do something else. And I think this is great. And I think it's a great business, the auction representation. There's a lot of guys out there who don't really necessarily want to do every step of the auction, and I think Kennan is really specifically good at that. And I think people will be really, really happy using the Kennan service. I'm not an investor. I'm just advocating for Kenning because I love him and I know he's great at it.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Oh, thank you, Doug. That is very kind. It is true that, like, selling cars on auction is the way to do it. It's funny if you go look at other ways to buy cars. It has dried up a lot. If you're interested an interesting enthusiast car, you're going to find it on one of the auction sites. But it's a lot of work to do that. Like, Carson Bids has done a great job of making it very easy to submit your car, but like the nuance that it takes to do it thoroughly and properly is, it's a lot of work. And I love doing it, but I understand that not everybody does. So if you want to reach me, I have a website, it's Ken and R.
Starting point is 00:05:18 And I want to make my name very clear because it's a weird name to spell. It's K-E-N-N-A-N. Ken N-N. My dad's name is Ken. My mom's name is Nancy. That's where my weird name comes from. They put it right together. They put it together. Ken and Nancy. Ken, and what has the response been so far? You already announced this a couple days ago.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Is everybody happy, excited? You're getting some leads, things going? Yes, I've had several submissions. I have several cars already in the pipeline and more that are coming, and I'm starting conversations with people about some very cool and interesting cars. So I'm very excited so far, and I want to thank everybody for the positive response I've had thus far. It's been overwhelming. Will you help people buy cars?
Starting point is 00:05:55 Yes, I will start doing that as well. So if people are looking for specific cars, I do happen to have a lot. of access to a lot of different cars. So I'm happy to do that as well. I'm looking for a Mark 4 supra turbo. Well, you know, we'll see how that works timing. We'll see how it works out. We'll see how it works out. We'll see how it works out. All right, well, I'm really happy for you. I'm excited for you. I'm thrilled that you're still going to be in our content. And I'm excited to see how this new venture works. I'm a big fan of people starting their own businesses and believing them themselves and betting on themselves. And it's real. And I'm excited for you.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Thank you, Doug. I really appreciate this support. But let's continue on to the rest of the automotive news. The big news story this week, of course, was the reveal of this new crazy-looking Audi Nouveau-Lari. It seems to me, you guys correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm not really keeping that close up on car news, but it seems to these months, it seems to me that the Nouveau-Lari is just a temerario underneath. The big news story is the way it looks, which is pretty intense. Is that right? I actually like how it looks, and I was maybe a little harsh on the Lutee last week. There's been a lot of comparisons between this, the Project Zero Zero from JAG, a handful of other debuts that modern car design has gotten very futuristic.
Starting point is 00:07:06 The front is definitely the polarizing part with the, in my opinion, Bugatti-inspired front grill. The rear looks very to Mario. I love how it looks from the rear. I think they actually kind of nailed it in that it's very futuristic looking without being that polarizing compared to the other two. I mentioned the Luce and the Project Zero zero. I'm curious to see, because all the images so far have been pictured. I'm actually surprised to see that we have this image here, because all the images I've seen so far have been like the cars like in an old studio with like a white background or a gray background. And there's no way to really, I'm curious to see what it looks like around other cars where it's, because I think the design will actually translate a little better to reality where it's like, whoa, what is this future thing?
Starting point is 00:07:47 As opposed to seeing it by itself in a studio where it's like, okay, maybe this is a little over the top. Regardless, I do find it interesting that they're taking a totally different approach to this than the R8. The R8 was kind of this halo car that brought people in and was pretty successful. They claim they're going to limit this car to only 500 units of production. And obviously, the Temerario is not limited. They're going in a different direction with this. This is instead of being sort of the halo car at every dealership has one and it's cool, this is going to be something we rarely see.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Now, my guess is 500 units refers to a coupe. There will probably be a convertible. There will probably be a GT. They will end up with 1,500 or 1,800 units. But it's still interesting that this, you know, the sister car is not, limited production, the Lamborghini. So it's interesting to see that they're kind of going super limited on this one,
Starting point is 00:08:32 different from the previous car. I think that the sister car, it's like they had to, right? That's the entry level model for Lamborghini, in essence, like for their supercar. So of course that wouldn't be limited in production. That will just be very expensive and that will limit the number that are produced by some people can buy them. But it
Starting point is 00:08:48 is interesting to limit this one. I am surprised with that. I also, I kind of dig the way it looks. It's like, this may be a bad comparison. It's like an R8 and a cyber truck, like, met and had a mildly good-looking child. I think it's cool, personally. I think it's kind of cool. I know there's been criticism, and I think it's a bit of a shock to people right now, so I understand the criticism, but I have a suspicion that when all this said and done, like, actually, it's, people are
Starting point is 00:09:13 going to look at this and go, wow, that was really kind of an interesting slap in the face. You know, like, that's kind of an unusual and interesting thing. I, I'm not necessarily ready to say that I like it, but I'm very curious to it in person, and I certainly don't hate it. I like the concept of car design moving forward and cars that move forward car design. And outies had a good history of that. And I'm interested to see where this goes. I am a little bit disappointed that essentially it's just a temerario underneath. It's really just a new skin.
Starting point is 00:09:38 It would be cool if there was something a little bit different, especially because I was a little bit disappointed in the temerario in general, but how big it is and how kind of overwrought it is. But obviously, you know, economies of scale and not that, all that, they're going to, they're not going to do something different. But were you disappointed with? with the R8 and the Gaiardo in the end? I mean, once the R8 got the V10,
Starting point is 00:09:58 that Gardo weren't that different. The R8 had a 4.2-liter V8, you know, for a long time. Initially, yeah. Yeah. And a lower entry price. And it seemed to me that it was more available with a manual transmission. I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:11 I think that the R8 had some distinguishing factors, whereas this car's sole distinction seems to just be the styling, which I'm not as obsessed with. You know, in the end's OMC-12 community, we wish there had been more distinction between the cars. You know what I was? What are you talking about? They got, the MC12 got longer.
Starting point is 00:10:26 What are you talking about? A long nose and a short nose. You couldn't get that. I wish they'd done a short-nosed Nouveauari. The other interesting thing you brought up the R8. Obviously, they didn't name it the R8 because they said they were going to retire it. They named it after an Italian race car driver, kind of odd, but whatever. But I think, remember when the R8 came out and they were worried about it cannibalizing
Starting point is 00:10:45 Gayardo sales and the Lamborghini and the Audi being too similar. So they said, all right, initially the R8 only came as a V8. They can't do this here. There's no V10 version of the Lambo. They're both the same power train. So I suspect that they're limiting production basically to placate Lamborghini and say, look, we're not going to cannibalize a much higher margin car. Although the pricing of this is alleged to be 600K plus, which is more than the Tamario. At 500 units, though, I think they can probably get away with that, especially if it looks like this.
Starting point is 00:11:13 There will be people who just want it based on the design. But I agree. It's kind of interesting. The Audi has now moved into the position of being the rare one, and the Lamborghini has moved to the position of the common one. But I think that's also partially because the R8 strategy by the end was no longer working. They weren't, it just had gotten too expensive. It was not selling. Rates were just sitting on showroom floors at the end of production.
Starting point is 00:11:33 They needed to do something different. They did. And I think this car is kind of a cool follow-up to it. And the RSQ8's the other example, right? It is basically an Uris, but arguably better in some ways. I think I prefer the styling of it anyways. But people aren't flocking to the RSQ8. They want the Lambo, right?
Starting point is 00:11:48 So instead of trying to go just under the Lambos and cut them on price, they're saying, all right, let's just make them a little bit more limited as just sort of like a marketing stunt because we already have all the stuff made. So it's an interesting strategy. We'll see if it works for them. But I'm with you. I think the design is not that terrible. Maybe BMW paved the way with the large front grills where that's now normalized in my brain. But I don't hate this nearly as much as the Instagram reaction implied. In the automotive hobby, preventative maintenance goes a long way.
Starting point is 00:12:18 We all want to prevent impending disaster, which is why a lot of us live by rules like don't buy a Stalantis product out of warranty or don't cheap out on the modifications you make. The other big piece of news this week is that the Audi Q7 has finally been redesigned. This car came out, I believe, in the States for the 2017 model year. And I presume that the new one will also be a 27 model. And so that's, you know, a 10-11 year production run for the old one in a very competitive segment. I mean, the three-row luxury SUV segment, Mercedes-Benz GLS, the DMWX7. This is a this is a tight and competitive. competitive. Lexus has a new car in the segment, the TX. This is a Titan competitive segment,
Starting point is 00:14:53 and it's amazing how long the Q7, the previous Q7, was able to be a successful car, and it was right up until the end. But I'm thrilled we've got to redesign one. It looks great like all of Audi's new crossovers, except for the trash Q4. It looks great. SQ7 looks like it's going to be cool, 600 horsepower. I am pumped for this. I think I haven't driven it, I haven't seen it, haven't touched it, but I have a feeling the same. is a segment leader. And not only the segment competitors you mentioned, but I think like the Palisade, a few of those cars have gone up market. And I think the, as Lucille would call them, the nurturers, the, I can't remember their exact term. The hot nurturers is what I call them. But they are buying the Palisades and such, in part because this had become so stale.
Starting point is 00:15:38 And Audi, Volvo, we're kind of that like, not too flashy, but just nice enough. Yeah, 600 horsepower for the SQ7 is serious business. But inside, it is, screens galore, as you would expect. But, again, the outgoing model is a little dated inside. It's behind on technology. Like, I think this would check a lot of boxes for people where they don't feel like they're buying a 10-year-old product. Especially because, this is nice.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Especially because, interestingly, despite it being a very competitive segment, the rivals are also pretty old. The new GLS, I think the current GLS, I call it the new GLS, because it looked like the old one, came out, I think, in 20. And the X-7, I think, also came out in 20. So it's a fairly old segment. that new Lexus TX is only a year or two old. That's pretty new. But Audi's kind of ahead of the curve here. And with a new street, everybody kind of switched a lot of development dollars to EVs. And so these, I think product cycles got sort of stretched out for these traditional gas powered cars.
Starting point is 00:16:33 You know, BMW did the IX and Mercedes-Benz did the EQS SUV. And so their regular gas powered cars kind of lasted longer, longer, longer, and they're all getting old. And a new Q7 is pretty cool. I love that Q-6. which is the slightly smaller electric version. I thought it was one of the most compelling EV SUVs I've driven. And I have a feeling that this is going to be like that, but bigger and with a gas power train. I do not love that turbo 2.9-liter V6 that is going to be the regular power train.
Starting point is 00:17:02 I think it's a little bit tepid when you first are accelerating. It's not my favorite power train. Didn't love it in the other cars that it's in. But I think it'll be fine. Most people probably won't care that much. Are you one of those media strategy people clicking through slides, scrolling spreadsheets. Yes? Good.
Starting point is 00:17:19 This is for you. Because on Spotify, there's an audience that's different. Locked in. Loyal, invested. They're called fans. Fans don't just listen to music. They feel seen by it like it belongs to them. So when your brand shows up on Spotify, that's who you're talking to.
Starting point is 00:17:36 And you're right next to artists like me, Lizzo. So, are you ready to talk to fans? Spotify advertising. You're among fans. Yeah, I wish that was a high. hybrid of some sort. There will be. I'm sure there will be.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Get ready, Nick. Nick, this is going to be your next car when it's heavily depreciated. Why don't you have a depreciated Q7 already? Well, it definitely need to replace the Cayenne soon. I've now replaced coil packs one this week, one last week. And my wife's like, why don't you just replace all A? I'm like, nah.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Well, it's too much pop. That is the way to do it. That's how I would approach it. It's popping so often that my wife, who's not a car person, goes, oh, I popped another coil pack. And you just spoke perfect car guy language without realizing it. Like, yes, it pops. Like, that's correct.
Starting point is 00:18:21 And, like, sure enough, like, under one cold one. Like, it is a 15-minute job in the driveway. So that is my current warranty slash maintenance plan for my wife's daily. But yes, maybe it's time to upgrade. Yeah, I think maybe it is, Nick. That car's got how many miles on? 120? 130.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Wow. You've gotten your use out of that house. The problem is it's worth, like, $13,000 on a good day, maybe 14 if Canon represents it. So I just, I don't know, it's a lot of money out of pocket that could be spent on other things. Yeah, a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Oh, to buy a new one. To buy a new one. Yeah. But maybe this Q7 will depreciate. Certainly the outgoing model will, and that has third row would check a lot of boxes. So maybe that's a, maybe that's a rising type of place all ships.
Starting point is 00:19:03 The problem is the outgoing model wasn't interesting. The first gen Q7 was interesting. There was a diesel, there was a V12. Yeah. And cool body kits. And you can add, all the Overland mods on them. I totally agree.
Starting point is 00:19:14 The second gen was kind of a dull, like, it was good. It was a great car, but it was kind of a dull traditional family car. I think you need something a little bit more exciting, to be perfectly honest. That's a shame. Yeah, but it's Nick, so a little bit more exciting. It's for my wife, and she went dull because we have enough problems. So we'll see, but I am excited that the styling on this also came out really nice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:36 It's not polarizing. It's not weird. The headlight pod is still a little odd to me. I mean, you've got to do something to mix it up. because the current one to Dux Point is a little boring. So that's just enough pieces of flare for it to be interesting without being bored. He has figured out a way to redesign its vehicles, the last couple, and actually keep them looking nice and still make them look new and different.
Starting point is 00:19:56 It's not that easy in today's world where everybody's trying to evolve rather than fully change, except for the Hyundai Santa Fe, of course. But they've done a good job with this latest generation. The designer came from the Android. It developed a lot of great Android phones. Give us the next news story, please. The new Bronco Phil said, Nick, did you read about this? Yes, and speaking of the news keeps coming out.
Starting point is 00:20:22 I swear it's a conspiracy right after we finish all the stories we'd want to talk about. So both the Nuvalari and this came out like Wednesday afternoon, about three minutes after we finished filming last week. When I worked for an automaker, the theory was you released on like a Wednesday Thursday. We filmed this pot on a Wednesday morning. You release on like a Wednesday Thursday to try to get people talking about it through the weekend. And it was, I felt that was one of the stupidest things that I had ever heard in my entire life. You spent a lot of weekend time talking to your parents and friends. About the Brogo Philson.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Hey man, did you hear? A trim level. It's obviously idiotic. This is actually legitimately cool, though. It has a detuned Raptor motor in it. The only way that you can get that. So it's not just like you and I, we miss the Eddie Bowers. We miss the Mercury, uh, Nautica edition.
Starting point is 00:21:07 We miss all the collapse, the LLB and Orvis cars. Like, there was some. cool stuff back when we were kids and Kenan was a toddler. Now we're bringing it back. Philson, so Philson's actually based out of Detroit. They make a really high end, or at least higher end, it depends on how fancy you are. Nice stuff, like mostly American made. Now, there's some Asterix there, much like my Shinola watch.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Like, it's, they're proud to be made in Detroit. So I think it's cool that the collaborations are coming back with apparel makers. And the tie-in with the U.S. is cool. The collaboration is cool. and I had not heard of Philson before, and I looked through the car, it looks like a nice, it looks nice inside,
Starting point is 00:21:46 nice outside. I think the fact that the power train, because the Raptor, I love the Bronco Raptor, I would never in a million years be caught dead driving at vehicle. It's way too excessive and ridiculous. I mean,
Starting point is 00:21:59 there was a time in my life where that would have been cool and probably Nick still thinks it's super cool and wants to do it. But me personally, it's just too much. The idea of getting the power train in not only a,
Starting point is 00:22:10 not only a tamer bronco, but a kind of luxurified bronco. I think there's really a market for that. I think it's a really great idea. And I hope that this doesn't become like a one-year-only collab, but sort of works its way in as a trim level, because I have a suspicion it's probably something desirable. Now, one interesting thing, we have talked many times on this pod. We initially said that there should be a Lincoln Bronco.
Starting point is 00:22:32 And then Ford kind of came out and sort of quasi-confirmed that there will be a link in Bronco. I hope this isn't where this ends. I hope this isn't the Lincoln Bronco. I hope there is still more to come on that front. If we're going to do a Lincoln Bronco, this is kind of the recipe. Not only does the detune Raptor, it has custom Fox shocks that are meant to ride a little bit smoother, and then they do a ton of sound dampening to make it quieter and comforter. So for someone like you on Nantucket that once a cool truck that isn't too flashy,
Starting point is 00:23:00 that doesn't draw a lot of attention, but is nice. Like, this is cool. Then I actually think that the styling touches, again, just enough to make it like kind of unique, kind of cool, but again, not overly so. It has a lot of appeal. It is the touring version of the Raptor. By the way, I'm reading here that actually the power train is the same as the Bronco Raptor.
Starting point is 00:23:18 It has the same 420 horsepower. I am curious, how could you possibly luxurify? The doors come off. Like, I'm very curious how sound deadening, you know what I mean? Like, I've been in cars. I've been in a lot of cars where they tried to make a bad car nice. Like a lot of those defender companies try to make them. and put all this luxury stuff in it make them nice,
Starting point is 00:23:40 and it never works. I'm very curious to see how that works in the fact. Their PR says acoustic glass, enhanced door and roof seals, and optimized aerodynamics to reduce perceived wind noise by 20% compared to standard models. Hard to believe that's actually going to work, because this is a car with frameless doors
Starting point is 00:23:58 where the doors come off. It's very difficult for me, but I'm curious to check it out. I think this is the most appealing version of the Bronco. On sale, I think this is by far to me. I agree. I could not agree with you more. I mean, I'd rather have the Raptor,
Starting point is 00:24:10 but I agree this is the one most people will choose. Yes, he would. I would want like a yellow one. Hey, hell yeah, brother. You drive that to some of your political rallies, am I right, Nick? All right. Your weekly comment, yes. Yes, the GT3RS.
Starting point is 00:24:25 So Toy Story, we're all familiar with Toy Story. We love the characters from Toy Story. Toy Story 5 is coming out relatively soon, and Porsche has partnered with Pixar to make three unique 9-11s to raise money for charity, and they're done in liveries to pay, homage to each character. So Buzz gets a GT3RS, which I think looks... I'm shocked at how much I like it. I'll come back to that in a second.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Jesse gets a Target 4S and Woody gets a Carrera T. And now this isn't the first time they've done this. Of course, Portia also did Sally from cars, like they've worked with Pixar to do stuff like this before, and they're selling these to raise money for charity. But the thing, like, to me is like, if you told me on paper what this GT3RS looks like, I'll go like, that is the ugliest thing ever created, kill it with fire. But I don't know if it's nostalgia. or just that buzz's colors really work that well together. But it looks so cool.
Starting point is 00:25:12 The interior in particular, with the purple of like buzz on the seats and stuff and like this red like check the out of the wing. The other two don't quite look as good, but I think that this one looks really good. Yeah, I agree. This is the one of the three that looks the best for sure. But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:25:31 I think this is really fun and cool. Like it doesn't feel trite to me. I don't know. It just like really works. in a fun and interesting way. I think kids will freak out about this too. Kids will freak out. I have a heartwarming story to tell you about Porsche. I have a private Instagram where I post pictures of my family. I don't post it publicly. And some of my old Porsche colleagues are on that because they're friends of mine and still are. And my kids are obsessed with Toy Story
Starting point is 00:25:55 and that gets posted. And Porsche reached out. My old colleagues at Porsche reached out and said, look, we're making, this was about a month ago. They said, we're making these Toy Story Porsches. and we're going to take him on like a little tour of the country before we sell him to sort of raise awareness. It's with Toy Story and said, can we bring them to Sandy. We saw your kids love Toy Strike. Can we bring them to San Diego so your kids can check out? And unfortunately, they weren't, they were like getting done right before arriving right before we were leaving to come to the East Coast. I said, we're not going to be able to make it happen.
Starting point is 00:26:27 But it's a shame because my kids would have been absolutely obsessed. But it's a, that is a sweet story. And I do think that kids are going to be obsessed with it. The Sally Carrera car or cars sold for crazy, crazy money. 3.6 million. Yeah. Which was a charity auction, yeah? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:44 I mean, it's a write-off for somebody in the end. But still, like, this is a cool thing, and I think it's a cool tie-in, and I'm excited to see it happen. I think this Pixar Porsche thing is sort of a ridiculous thing, but how can you complain when it's for charity, you know? Right, exactly. And it's fun. I think one of the weirdest things to me are one of the most, like, insane things,
Starting point is 00:27:02 is that the tires are special from Goodyear. they actually say light year on them instead of Goodyear. Like, Gidier made a special cast for the tires. So like, God, imagine having to replace those tires eventually. Nobody will. They would just be on the original car. You can't. You can't replace them.
Starting point is 00:27:17 You got to pull them off and save them. Yeah, I don't know, dude. At my takeovers, we just do tire stickers. You can get little stencils and spray them on. In the cars movies, the tires on the cars say light year. It was like a throwback to this movie. Yeah, Nick, your takeovers and your polis. rallies. And we know Nick, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:27:37 Yeah. Well, not all of us can walk around barefoot on Brown University or whatever you're doing this summer. Why? Why is he talking about? You're actually almost barefoot yourself. Look, I know we got to end early for your sound bath and meditation session, so we should probably go to the next news.
Starting point is 00:27:53 All right, move on to the next news story. I got my sound bath coming up. Nick, what is this new story? You threw this in. What is this? You know, I didn't read a whole lot past the headline that I saw on Instagram. However, Ferrari is debuting a new laptop. You all may remember the ACER that came out a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:28:12 They and their desire to continue to dilute the brand. Ferrari is doing a laptop. Nick, make your joke. Go ahead and say it. Well, you've already made fun of my joke. But finally, they found something Johnny Ive can help with. So, congrats Ferrari. Got him.
Starting point is 00:28:27 It's no doubt going to be a beautiful rectangle. We're all very excited for the new Ferrari laptop. All right. Next news, Troy, please. By the way, someone wrote to me in the automotive design community a three-page letter defending Johnny Ive. I read it. I'm not going to reply. You make some valid points. I was maybe a little hard on the guy. It's questionable how you were not hard on the guy. I think everything you said was valid. And I think that in the design world, there becomes this hero worship of famous designers that I've not. quite seen as much in other places.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Like music. It's like any world where you have to like really use your creativity and brain, there's like a real hero worship of the people at the top in those fields. And I don't think he deserves it. This car, you call them a fake and a fraud, I think, and I think we're, I
Starting point is 00:29:20 wouldn't necessarily go that far, but I think that maybe there needs to be a little bit of a come down for this reputation. And I'm just glad that they're launching a new computer slash consumer electronics division. That's That's great. In corporate America, right, you don't fire people like that. You just move them to a different department and make them someone else's problem. So perfect solution here. You don't have to fire Johnny I'm, just put them in charge of the laptops and we can get Pinn and Farina back to make Ferrari's beautiful. You don't want Pinn and Farina back. That's the thing that nobody quite understands.
Starting point is 00:29:51 Bro. They're all gone. We'll get Gandini, like his ghost, his son, his grandfather, somebody. The days of the Italian design houses being the stalwart, like, touch points for great design in the world are over. Pinn and Farina, they're dead, the people who started it and made it special. The Indians own it now. It's not what it was. Gandini's dead. Like, these things are not what they were.
Starting point is 00:30:18 It's over. It's all over. It's moved on. Maybe Philson, a collab with another clothing designer. Summer is officially here, and there's. two things I'm looking forward to. One, the availability of cheap labor in the form of summer interns, and two, wearing my chubby's trunks. Shorts are not just shorts, all right? Chubbies are cut above. The four-way stretch is genuinely surprising. They fit like I've owned them for years from the very first
Starting point is 00:30:43 wear. And as someone who spends a lot of time crouching next to cars pointing at things, flexibility matters to me a lot. They're seriously soft, they dry ridiculously fast, pull to lunch, no soggy waddle. And yes, my thighs are finally getting the fresh air. and respect they deserve. Also, fun fact, Chubbies is celebrating 15 years and the original shorts that started it all are back.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Same iconic fit, same comfort first design. Over 2.6 million customers can't be wrong, so don't wait. And for limited times, shop Chubby's biggest sale of the season for $45 and under

Starting point is 00:31:30 they deserve with chubbies. Support our show and tell them we sent you. All right, I got a special treat for you. This Saturday, June 13th, join our very own Ryan Lopez at Gilles Auto Lounge in San Diego for the Yvance Online Auction Summit, featuring cars and bids
Starting point is 00:31:45 and experts from across the industry. There'll be open Q&A, morning bites, and beverages all at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gilles Auto Lounge. And one more thing. This is a charity auction. Right now on cars and bids, we're auctioning a two-day high-performance driver education
Starting point is 00:32:02 course for two at the Radford Racing School, the official high-performance driving school of Dodge Sart. With roots going back to the legendary Bob Bonderon, this place is awesome. Skid car training, high-speed braking, advanced auto cross, the works. It's no reserve, and every dollar, including our buyer's fee, is donated to the Peterson Automotive Museum. Check out the description below. All right, move on to the next new strike, please. We've given Nick too much ammo on this one already. M2, new M2. We had talked, we'd reported on this a couple of months ago, but it's finally confirmed the new M2 will offer all-wheel drive or be all-wheel drive only. It will be offered with all-wheel drive. So it'll be the M2X drive will go on sale this summer.
Starting point is 00:32:44 So it's going to have BMW's X-Drive system. It will still be rear-wheel drive biased, and it will be automatic only. But it shaves a third of a second off the zero-to-60 time, which is not nothing. And so I think it's cool that they're offering a couple different versions of the M2. I'm glad they will continue to offer the manual rear-wheel drive one. I think that's a, I don't know. Yes. It's important to keep in mind that the all-wheel drive one will only be offered with an automatic. The manual, if you want the manual, you have to get rear-wheel drive.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Which I think most people have manual. That's exactly what they want is rear-wheel drive as opposed to all-wheel drive. But nonetheless, it's going to be slightly more expensive. It's going to have a starting price of $74,950 bucks. but it's excited. I'm glad to see that the M2 is being iterated on. I personally love the M2. I've never had anything against it.
Starting point is 00:33:30 I think it looks cool. I think they drive brilliantly. It's what BMW should make a small rear-wheel drive. It's also a good size. Yeah, yeah, it is also a good size. It's 475 horsepower. It's a good size, and 475 horsepower with all-wheel drive in that size is a pretty compelling car. Push through corners, like, accelerate fast, has a lot of grip, little car.
Starting point is 00:33:49 You want grip, you want turning capability. I think that's a fantastic situation, if it worked. Well, totally. And I recognize there are people who want to have one car to do it all. And if you live on the East Coast and you're like a younger professional, like, you know, you got to drive in the incluent weather. This is a pretty compelling car. I'd do everything.
Starting point is 00:34:06 It deeply pains me to say this because Doug has a big ego. But Doug was right. When it came out, I was in the camp of it's so ugly. And then Doug's like, you'll get used to it. Just give it time. And I'm looking at this now and I'm thinking, what was it that I didn't like before? Like, it's, it's maybe they've softened it.
Starting point is 00:34:25 Maybe my eyes are getting worse, but like, I don't mind that whatsoever. It's so weird you didn't want. In the years since it's come out, the car industry has gone even further away from cars like this. My commentary on it when I went to Phoenix to review it when its product launch was that it may look a little weird, but like this is still a manual, little, tossable, rear-wheel drive, six-cylinder car, and we should appreciate them while we can. And I think that, you know, you can comment on the styling all you want to, but like, this is a gift. And the industry hasn't exactly become more full of manual rear-wheel drive, you know, fun, tossable cars in the several years since this car came out.
Starting point is 00:35:02 And I think this cars are still very desirable. And like you said, Kenon, I'm glad they're iterating on it and still making it even cooler and giving it more options and more, you know, things for different people. I think that's awesome. I'm into it. I see them all the time. So I don't know that we will see as. I mean, we'll probably see the all-wheel drive one here quite a bit. As people will want the automatic and they'll want the higher trim level and more performance and whatever.
Starting point is 00:35:23 But I'm into it. I just, I've really liked this car. You know, by the way, at that product launch I went to, they were launching two products at the same time. And I was also right about the other one, which was the XM. XM? Yep. Haven't seen one of those in a long time with good reason. Now, there's a bad car that nobody wanted.
Starting point is 00:35:44 What was the last thing you saw on XM? I mean, the problem is, when you see them, you notice them. It's impossible to miss. That's true. So I feel like I recognize and like jot down mentally each one that I've seen. These car companies will do everything they can to compete with the G-Wagon except actually compete with the G-Wagon.
Starting point is 00:36:01 They're like, we're BMW, so we can't do a boxy off-roader. We'll do it all our way. And it's like, your way is crap. There's why they like the G-Wagon, for God's sake. Honestly, the Bronco Filson's probably the closest good attempt. Well, the defender did an okay job, I think, at a lower price point. There are some decent competitors. For real adults, the Lexus LX is pretty good.
Starting point is 00:36:23 But the G is the G. It lives in a world all its own. Yep, it really does. All right, next news story. That is the end of the news. All right, time for the Taunt Cars segment, and I have a little news. Nick, are you ready for it? Oh, I'm ready.
Starting point is 00:36:37 All right, I bought a Supra. Kenan, pull it up. My God, you! Kenan R! He made it happen that quickly. I'm that good. I asked for it earlier in the podcast, and here it is 25 minutes later. Unbelievable, Kenan. This is why you got to use the Canon R vehicle services.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Now, I bought a Super. I got nine cars now. I'm going to do a whole video on it. I'm not going to see it. It's being California in a couple weeks. I'm not going to see it for like three months. So I hope it's good. I'll do a whole video on it when it arrives.
Starting point is 00:37:13 None of my friends are excited about it. Nick, especially and Kenan. These are the two who are the least excited. I mean, like, I respect the Mark 4. Every time I see when I take a picture of it, like I still, I don't go do to Super every time I see it, but I respect when I see one, especially one that's very stock, which yours appears to be quite stuck.
Starting point is 00:37:30 Yeah, I was gonna say I would be excited if you were planning to mod it and give us some power, but I do worry in stock format, it might be slightly underwhelming from a driving experience. I think this is gonna be just like your 993 and that you're gonna be bored of this thing so fast because of the way it is. Like, I think it's gonna be soft.
Starting point is 00:37:45 I think it is going to be not particularly exciting. I think it's going to be used. It looks cool. The mistake you make is not understanding the purpose of this car in my life. So I have three very focused sports cars that are very special. And for this car, what I've been looking for is a car that I can just take my go around and go to the store, take my kids primarily. That's what this is really going to be for. Take the dog to daycare and all that.
Starting point is 00:38:09 And I think this is like the perfect car for that. And I don't need to, I don't want a hard edge car for that. I actually specifically want something that's thought. I realize and understand all of this, but you moved on from the 993 pretty fast, because this is going to replace the 993, right? I haven't sold the 993. That's still got it. Not physically.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Mentally, you've, you've... No. No, I still have the 993 turbo, still excited about it. I am very curious. I got this car a little quicker than I expected. I thought it would take longer to find, and I'll tell the story of finding it. Did come through the podcast. But I'll tell the story of finding it when I do the whole video tour of it,
Starting point is 00:38:43 when I see it in a couple of months. But I am curious having the 993 and the Super, which one I'll end up driving more. I have a suspicion that once the Super lands, I'm never going to touch the 993 again. That's 100% what's going to happen. So the 993 will be coming to the market soon, I'm sure. To me, this particular car is just not about the all-out performance. I want something that I think is cool for a daily. And this is a pretty cool daily.
Starting point is 00:39:11 And I bought it from this place Diamond Motor Works in Illinois. I'll tell the whole story. But they deals in a lot of Supras up there. And he said to me, he said, I want to change the timing belt. It was original before you take the car. And I said, great, you got like a specialist you use or anything like that. And he said, no, I just take it to the Toyota dealer. He said, they know how to work.
Starting point is 00:39:32 It's a 2JZ. They work on a ton of those. It's still a million cars. And I'm like, oh, my God, what an unbelievable experience. I don't have to go to some crazy, ridiculous specialist to get. stuff done this is incredible what a what a dream so i don't think you want to do that here maybe i really do i that is absolutely going to the toyota dealer 100 percent same place serves the coia last summer you were on one about winning an n a automatic version because it has all the looks
Starting point is 00:40:02 and cool but it's like way cheaper so why why did you not go that route why did you spend double Oh, I bought a manual turbo. The kids are into going fast, and I wanted the right one. So this is a 31,000 mile, totally stock manual turbo. It had been a one-owner car until 2020. Are you worried that's going to be too nice for what you want to use in for? No, it is too nice. I wanted a little higher miles, and this has a beige interior.
Starting point is 00:40:24 I wanted black. But at some point, you're being a little bit of a beggar chooser because a manual turbo in red, unmodified is very, very, very challenging to find. I also wanted the sport roof, which comes off, which this car has. So I just realized, like, yes, it is too nice for me. I will probably, my kids are going to eat Doritos in it. I will lose some money because of this decision. But it's worth doing as opposed to waiting six months to try to find a slightly worse car for slightly less money, you know. Well, we'll see you at race wars, buddy.
Starting point is 00:40:55 I'm excited for it. This is going to be my daily. I'm going to show up everywhere in a mark form. Be so legit. And by the way, this goes back to a point that I made on a previous podcast, which was that none of you, none of you, except or enjoy cars except for European. You're all European car snobs. Not me, baby.
Starting point is 00:41:13 I'm going to have an American car. I will work on the Viper. Also, this is why I've been putting off buying the Vipers. I've known I've been launching this business. I've been just, like, playing it safe. But I will get a Viper. Like, that is going to happen. And I have an American car.
Starting point is 00:41:26 And then, then you can no longer give me crap about it. There's a lot of I Will Gitz over here. I'm sitting over here with two Toyotas, two Porsches, a four, I'm killing it. We got every country represented. Lamborghini. We're doing it all over here. And by the way, I'm curious
Starting point is 00:41:43 if people will call me a Toyota guy now because I've got this Sequoia and the Super. You're a Mercedes guy. Through and through. At the end of the day, you level this criticism on us, but the overwhelming percentage of the cars you own are European, and you are a Mercedes guy. Well, wait a second. Hang on a second.
Starting point is 00:41:58 This is my... I now have had an unbelievable number of Toyotas. Do you want to know how many? No. One, two, Wow, unbelievable number. He's up to single digits here. I think it's six.
Starting point is 00:42:11 How many Toyota's the unbelievable? How many Toyota's you own, buddy? There are families who've had every generation of Camry. Get out of here. You know, they've had... I've only had, what is it, three portions. So I've had twice as many Toyotas. And I have two right now, and I love them both.
Starting point is 00:42:23 I'm high on my Sequoia right now, too. Last week we talked about how you couldn't handle the G-Wagon. You needed to stick with your Toyota. Now we're questioning whether you can handle the 993. We're replacing it with a Toyota. We all get older. Some of us can still do the hard things. Some of us settle.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Well, I had the 993. Well, he's going to say, I have a Kuntosh and a career GT as his response, which is the appropriate response. You had a big service bill at the 993. Then all of a sudden, it lost in Luster. That was when I first got it. Well, that you just got it. I put 5,000 miles on it. You first got it.
Starting point is 00:42:55 You've had it in the collection six months. No, it'll be a year when I get home. And then I'll have a decision to make because I can't keep. I only have a four car car. Yes, but you didn't drive it. for three months because you're away. Some of us keep our cars for a very long time. That is true.
Starting point is 00:43:10 Driven it to the moon and back. Yep, that's right. On my way back. I wouldn't know what that's right. He didn't drive it to the moon and back. Nick, Nick, how long you kept your current fleet? You got that guy in for a long time.
Starting point is 00:43:19 Other than that, what are we doing? Again, not very good. I think average lifespan, it's been like a year per car. On that subject, Nick, one thing I heard about you and I would like to discuss is I hear you hired a summer intern. Yes, I'm so pumped on this. Okay. So everyone that, like, you have nine cars, you know, obviously it gets to be a lot of work when you have too many cars, especially if you buy rougher examples of nicer cars like I like to do. College is out or, you know, what have you.
Starting point is 00:43:49 School is out for summer, depending on the grade level, but yet for the summer. And so there's a lot of kids, you know, there's not a lot of jobs, AI, all that stuff. They're looking for stuff to do. So I hit up my neighbor Blake and said, hey, you know, I got some odd jobs around the house. I've mostly used him to smog cars that are currently registered in states between Idaho and Wyoming. But it hit me when Nick was talking about, because he brought this up in our group chat a couple of weeks ago, our text group chat with me and Kenon and Nick and a few other people. He brought this up and it hit me then and I'm going to make the reference now. Nick is Kramer.
Starting point is 00:44:22 Remember when Kramer hired an intern? And the intern would like walk around following him and like take notes. And Nick is Kramer. He's an idiot. And he does crazy things. And now he's got a summer intern. And that's what Nick is. He's like the crazy neighbor who's insane and is always doing crazy things.
Starting point is 00:44:41 And that is Nick's situation. So of course he's scared a summer intern to help out with his tremendously difficult life. Well, you know, it's, I hadn't, I hadn't even considered that that was what you agree now. I agree now. Everyone, everyone needs a summer intern once you have one. There's no going back. I'm not offering him any credits or certificates at the end of this program. However, I am paying him in cash, money.
Starting point is 00:45:07 What are you throwing him? I offered him 50 bucks an hour, which I think was aggressive. And so I've since walked it back to like 40. Like I shortchanged him on the last job a little bit. Sorry, Blake. But like I'm mostly just having them like I drove the car to the smog. I then had him drive it to the upholstery shop to get some samples. Like it ain't very hard work here.
Starting point is 00:45:28 Like the dudes, I had him wash a car, my wife's car. I'm going to have him help me, like, hang some things up. Like, it's not exactly, like, difficult labor here. Man, Nick's Car Blog has staff. No, we're a Rhan Media LLC. Oh, sorry. A little bit behind Ken and R, but we are a business. You need to understand, Nick's Car Blog is a property of Roshan Media, okay?
Starting point is 00:45:50 So there's Rashon Media. And then there's Nick's Car Blog, which employs me. And then there's a summer intern. There's a lot to this. I'm sorry. I did not understand the new. of Cramerica Industries here. We are a multi-state business.
Starting point is 00:46:04 We're going to make our own pies soon. We have locations. We have locations in California and Montana. That's right. That's right. And you want to be my way to fix it. We may be expanding to Florida next. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Anyway, I live there 180. Two days a year. Keep us posted with how he does, Nick. It's great. I think this is great news for all the people out there who, who have got too many cars. and need some help. Blake, if you're listening,
Starting point is 00:46:31 I'm not making any promises, but let's just say there could be a promotion on the horizon. Let's keep up the good work. Let's say once you graduate from whatever community college you're at, you might be promoted to full-time intern. There may be a chance. There's an unpaid internship at the end of this paid internship before we're all.
Starting point is 00:46:49 He should publish his experiences of being Nick Rochon's intern. Well, people always ask me, like, how do you do all this stuff? You got a full-time job, blah, blah, blah. interns. We got interns. We're hiring. We're farming out work. That's great.
Starting point is 00:47:02 Nick, I'm really thrilled. You're going to be really excited when your kids get old enough that you can make them do the stuff. Yeah, that would be nice. Right now, Ryder did help me with a project, my four-year-old. And then I had all the hardware on the ground and he tripped over it. And I still can't find bolts that are missing. And it's like, oh, this is not good. On that subject, I put together, I bought for the kids here, I bought one of those ride-on power wheels.
Starting point is 00:47:25 and it's a Lexus, over-trail Lexus. Like, I want, but I can't have it, so I got it for my kids. And we put it together, and we have four kids under five right now in our house. There's friends visiting, and there's kids everywhere. And we are still looking for the passenger mirror. Everyone is trying to help me, which involves, when it's a two-year-old trying to help, they basically just, you know, they drop stuff and they take something and run away with it. and they put, we've still, we've been, we've had the car for a week and a half, we've done deep cleans of the house, we cannot find the passenger mirror. The current theory is that the passenger mirror was placed inside of the seat before I screwed it into the car and it's lost forever. That's excellent. That's the problem. But someday we'll get to, what I really need is a summer intern.
Starting point is 00:48:14 Hey y'all, it's Kelly Clarkson with Wayfair. Ever order furniture online and wonder what if? Like, what if it doesn't hold up? That sofa was four days old. You should have ordered from Wayfair. With Wayfair, there's no what if. Just style you love and quality you can trust. Visit Wayfair.com.
Starting point is 00:48:27 Wayfair, every style, every home. Well, it's a Montespecchio, like the Testerosi. You just got that one mirror on the driver's side. Unfortunately, it's the only on the passengers. The mirror we have is the passenger side. You're right. We're missing the driver's mirror. Kenon, you got some talk cars for us?
Starting point is 00:48:42 A little bit. So I did something, so my birthday was relatively recently. And so my friend Ryan got me a present. And I opened it up and I was surprised that it was a turn signal stock. Now, you know, BMW drivers don't use them usually. But I have done so much that there actually was a wear difference between that one and the one in the car. He replaced it on his car. And because you know how nice E39 stock feels.
Starting point is 00:49:04 One of the best in the industry. To feel a brand new one is crazy how nice it is. And so that was his birthday present. So I am the only BMW drivers in history that has replaced the turn signal stock. I'm so jealous of you. That signal stock feel in that car, Nick, I don't know if you know about this, but the feel of the signal stock in that era of BMW, it wasn't just the E3905, but that was one of them, is the greatest turn signal stock feel in the history of the automobile. And I one time I had an L322 Rangerover, and I discovered that the signal, that the, the, part wasn't the same, but the mounting bracket was the same for BMW, because BMW had essentially
Starting point is 00:49:46 developed that car. And I switched out my Land Rover turn signal for a BMW X-5 turn signal, just so I could feel the feel of the BMW turn signal. To this day, I think that car is driving around with an X-5 turn signal. Anybody who's in it's probably like, what the hell? It's amazing. How is it, Kenan? Are you really enjoying yourself? It's unbelievable. It's one of the great ironies that they, someone's, because looking at the engineering, the work that went into this to make it nice is incredible. And then, of course, most BMW drivers just have never experienced it. They just don't use it.
Starting point is 00:50:18 It's interesting because we're kind of joking about this, but kind of not. Like, turn signals is something that you press all the time. It's one of the touch points on the car that you interact with the most. And I think that this is one of GM's biggest failings. In the New Escalade, which has a fantastic interior. Everything is absolutely brilliant and beautiful, but it just has the regular turn signal stocks from a base model Chevy, And it's like, this is not, it wouldn't be that hard to really just, this is something you're pressing constantly, constantly.
Starting point is 00:50:47 And those feel loose and they could go in any direction poorly. And it's so good on the E3N5. And it's a silly thing, but it's just everything that you touch that feels great in a car is a reminder that the car was built well. Well. And engineered well. Precisely. That's exactly that I was thinking. It's like, the Ford Gt is like Ford Focus turn signals, right?
Starting point is 00:51:07 Yeah. Like, it's just like little things like that. Like, you're totally right. I was thinking about, it's like steering wheel, gear shifter, pedal. Like, those are the things you interact with the most. And the turn signal stock. Like, that's like, and so I know it's a very boring, weird thing to replace. It's an odd birthday gift, but I resonate with it.
Starting point is 00:51:23 It's so hard. Especially after 200-something miles. A lot of stuff wears, and it's cool. What it, like, clicks off and just goes, it's, like, it's, like, silent when it goes. It's very, like, it's just, I don't know what engineer worked on that, what company worked on that to design it for BMW. It's such a shame, because the, The next generation BMW turn signal stock was trashed.
Starting point is 00:51:43 That's where they went to the flip back to the center thing, and it's never been the same sense. Although actually new ones are pretty good still. Nick, you got any turn signal stock opinions, I imagine, a few? That whole conversation was painful. I can see why this is a Porsche podcast. The type of people who appreciate those details would like a Porsche. It is unbelievable to me, Nick, that you do not own American cars because the level with which
Starting point is 00:52:07 you care about precision is so minimal that. I would think you would have like a WS6 and a couple of rotting six-cylinder firebirds on your front lawn. I put the horn as broken watch for finger, bumper stick around my arnage and just go. If you hit the gas pedal, you don't need the signal. You create the hole. You put it on your arnage. Why don't you get like an SRT8 grand jersey or like, you know what I mean? Like get something like just like so raucously American.
Starting point is 00:52:34 I think you're due to go back. I know. I agree. The SRT 10 RAM pickup, the quad cab with the four speed audits. Kind of disappointed, but I want to get back on that train. I do want another American car. I just get turn signal stocks. They don't excite me.
Starting point is 00:52:47 Like the size of the motor, the transmission. We already have a big motor and a great transmission. Ideally, some ricarros. That's sort of my list. All right, time to move on to the market report, market report, market report. There's a lot to report in the market. Kenan, do you want to start with your market report? Yes, I'm going to start with the F10M5.
Starting point is 00:53:06 I think this is a crazy value. So we've been talking about F10M5s a lot recently. We have also on the Cars and Bids YouTube channel, but this one sold, it's a 13, so it's an early car, sold for $14,000 for an F10 M5, for a 560 horsepower relatively modern BMW. That is nuts. To put it in perspective, I bought my M5 for $11,300 all those years ago.
Starting point is 00:53:32 This is like getting into that territory of how cheap these money. That's true. It's a scary power. train. Boy is it. But for $14,000, like, you know, I mean, like, how scary could it be? It's already, the engine's already been replaced. Well, that's probably that I think is the scary part. In 2019. It's already. It's already been done in 2019. So it's been done already. Seven years ago. And the car was only seven years old when it was done. So you figure you do an engine every seven years, you're probably about due. It was an early one. They built the later ones a little bit better,
Starting point is 00:54:06 I think. I agree with you that those cars are big values. But you have to be able to throw away the money because there is a chance you will indeed throw away the money. Now, on the subject of BMWs, on the opposite end, did you see the M-Coop result? Yes, this one. Let me bring it up. We sold an M-Coop just a couple of days ago with a S-54. For, yeah, for $52,000. 52 grand with 60,000 miles and silver.
Starting point is 00:54:35 This is not a collector S-54M-Coop. there remains a significant amount of interest in this car. It's kind of funny because BMW has never been able to break into the Porsche sports car GT3 territory. And they've tried various times, that weird M4 GTS and the Z8 and all these cars that, oh, let's do a sports car. But there are still some BMWs that the market really, really prizes. And in an S-54M coupe, even regardless of mileage and color not being like perfect, amazing,
Starting point is 00:55:03 it's still a valuable, desirable car in the market. I totally agree. And I mean, it makes sense. Like, these cars have had a cult falling since they were new. I actually talked to somebody who worked for BMW at the time, like BMW corporate. And when these cars came out, like, they were so nervous, but the people who bought them were so dedicated and into them that they sold them. And so, like, the S-504 is an amazing engine.
Starting point is 00:55:28 Granted, it's slightly new because this has had a five-speed gearbox as opposed to a six that was in the M-3. But it's like, you know, a lot of power, rear-wheel drive, cool looking. I mean, it makes sense. They're still not common, but yeah, I'm glad to see that the market is strong on these.
Starting point is 00:55:41 It deserves to be. It's a really special car. Yeah, I had a die cast of this. I gave it to a friend who bought one, but it's funny how when cars become vintage, and I can't believe we're thinking of cars of the late 90s, early 2000s as vintage, but your expectations lower.
Starting point is 00:55:57 You're willing to overlook things like bad turn signal stocks because you're like, hey, it's a 20, 30-year-old car. Like, all it needs to do is have a vibe, and look cool. I don't need it. Like, some of the flaws that it was maybe criticized for in period, you can overlook and be like, ah, five speeds is enough? Like, what have it? Yeah. Is it quite as fast as its closest rival?
Starting point is 00:56:17 Who cares? Who cares? Who cares? It's a nostalgia thing. Is the Supra Turbo quite as special as a E39 M5? We don't care anymore. It's a nostalgia play. It's much more special in the M5. I will admit that. It is. Does your heater core leak on your wife's shoes? Who cares? It's a vintage car.
Starting point is 00:56:35 You know? It's fun. On the subject of market reports, I want to pull up a Mustang. Go to Mustang. Nick, you're going to love this. This is the Midwesterner and you, Nick, and go to that six-cylinder one that we sold. Top-right. Top-right in there.
Starting point is 00:56:48 Nick. Oh, wow. Nick, this car, this is the last Mustang you'd want. It's an automatic six-cylinder. But don't you think it's a little bit cool to drive around in a new edge? Like, unironically drive around on a new edge with three spokes and a six-cylinder with only 30,000 miles. Like you, this car, and it only sold for seven.
Starting point is 00:57:09 Like, you could have, this is like the nicest V6 new edge in the world for seven Gs. I think seven's a strong result, personally. I don't know who the buyer is that wants this combination of pristine yet undesirable. But the automotive community is interesting and people are, maybe this could be a great parts car for a mysticome that you want, like, perfect condition. parts. That is such a great point. A perfect combination of desirable, of pristine and undesirable. That is exactly what this car is. How weird. I definitely want one of these, but like an SVT, Mr. Chrome. Like, I love these cars. This is just a, it's an odd move. I am consistently surprised at how cheap survivor cars are. Yeah. Because even if you just wanted to buy this as a regular used car,
Starting point is 00:58:02 I guarantee you could get 10 easy years out of this car, and you've spent basically no money on it. Survivor cars are just such deals. That turn signal stock must just feel like butter, you know. No, dude, the turn signal stock in this car. The turn signal stock in this car was trash. You would notice and know. Your 96 Explorer, it was the same one.
Starting point is 00:58:24 It was like too low. You remember it was too low on the string call? No, I don't remember. That was not part of the driving experience I paid any attention to. Well, Nick, some of us are real drivers and some of us aren't. So those are detailed people. Maybe I should be a BMW guy because, like, that's, although apparently they're nice, but I mean, I don't care too much if I use them or not.
Starting point is 00:58:45 Kenner, you want to talk to LC 500? Yes, so I love the LC 500. I've talked about this car for a long time, and I've been waiting for them to come down in value so eventually I can get one. The new supra. It just does not, well, yeah. Kind of. spiritually, it's the supra. I don't think the super is a super.
Starting point is 00:59:00 naturally aspirated V8 and much more futuristic styling. But yeah. So this one, so we sold with 17,000 miles on it for 88.5. You know, yeah, it's like, yeah, but this car, like, I think it is so cool. That interior is amazing and reliable. And, like, they're just holding value. That's a big number. Mark my words.
Starting point is 00:59:21 The LCs with the updated infotainment, the non-remote touch, will never depreciate, will always be regarded as amazing design. By the way, this, LC, every LC, 500, not the hybrids. Not the hybrid. Because it's little remembered, but there was a V6 hybrid option for a while that's finally gone. But the NACHA-GAS-rated V-8LCs will never really depreciate. But especially those later ones are going to stay really, really, really desirable cars.
Starting point is 00:59:48 And yeah, 88-5 for a 17,000 mile. I mean, this is a fairly used car. You know, I think it's a little bit of Supra. I think it's also a little bit of SC-430, which has followed a sort of similar depreciation curve, believe it or not. Nice SC430s actually remain pretty desirable and pretty valuable. There is a market for a reliable, beautiful, you know, it may not be as high performance or performance focused as a Porsche or whatever, but this is a special car and the market will continue to treat it as such.
Starting point is 01:00:16 Totally. I couldn't agree with that more, which is irritating. Well, at least I know I won't lose money on it when I buy one one day. Like this for me, I mean, yes, it's notmatic and stuff, but like I think at some point or another I'll have one of these cars because I love NV8s. I love the, it would be nice to have something really reliable that I don't have to be concerned with. And, you know, it's just, it's got a lot of appeal to it. Yep. By the way, we have only sold one, we have only sold one LC500H, the hybrid, and it's sold for only $45,000.
Starting point is 01:00:44 So this is going to be like the NA auto, Mark 4. Like, if you want to have the look, but you can't quite afford the big old V8, there will be the hybrids will be there. You just pull the H off the back and no one will know. the difference. A little bit of floss, just get that off of there. Get it right off. It'll be fine. You're good to go, yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:06 Okay, I want to move on to questions. Are you guys, are there any other market reports? Nick, do you want them report on anything? I got none this week. There's a lot of good stuff out there, but nothing I'm ready to... I got one more I would like to mention. So, Ferraris have been hot. The hottest cars on the market.
Starting point is 01:01:21 The Ferrari market has absolutely exploded. And cars in general have gotten really expensive. Like, the market is hot. I guess it's partially because we're in summer now. People are buying like crazy. It's great. But as an enthusiast, I'm like, you know, where do, like, you see value? Like, where there's value?
Starting point is 01:01:37 And to me, it's in Aston Martin. When I look at Aston's and what they sell for, I'm like, that is unbelievable. I was scrolling through some stuff recently, like, because I was just kind of curious. This particular, like, this one sold for 74 grand. This was a little while ago now in May. But this was a manual convertible NAV-12, exotic grand. Low mile. Low mile.
Starting point is 01:01:57 a beautiful looking car, and it sold for $74,000. If this were a Ferrari, it would be multiples of that. Yeah, I mean, it's a good point. It kind of depends on what you're looking for. Like, a Ferrari is probably a better investment opportunity, but it requires a lot more capital. But if you're an enthusiast. These Astairens aren't really going to go up that much,
Starting point is 01:02:15 but they are a lot easier to enter in terms of, you know, entry-level price. And, boy, are they pretty good deals when you consider, yeah, manual V-12. and by most measures, they're pretty reliable cars. Yeah, relative. The early ones have some things you have to look out for, rod bearings, main bearing, and stuff like that. But, I mean, even this DBS,
Starting point is 01:02:37 this car's competitor when it came out was the 599. Like, they were similar in price when these two cars came out. And now it's $81,000 for this car. That is just an unbelievable value for what you get. So, like, I love these cars. I plan to own some Aston Martins at some point in the future. So, like, I just think that there's such a, compelling brand. They're so cool. Nick, how come you've never had an Aston?
Starting point is 01:03:00 You know, I'd like to. I can't get advantage because you would accuse me of following on your footsteps and show me the picture with a buffalo or bison a couple times. I can't give you another win. So it would have to be a different car. On a different website that shall not be named, there is a D-B-A-R-1, 6-speed that I am actually watching, in part because it's not getting any interest whatsoever. It looks really, really cool. I would love to get a Zagato anything, Aston. There's a lot of
Starting point is 01:03:33 cool stuff out there. They don't get the action or competitiveness Ferrari does. They also don't get the pedantic people that are like, oh, how are your turn signals? You know, it's like people focus on the driving experience. They're not great. They were also from like a Ford. I'm sure. I agree that. By the way, speaking of that other auction site,
Starting point is 01:03:49 did you see there was a scout project, scout that sold for $5? I did see that. I thought it was 10 bucks, but yeah, the first person ever to have the worst case, no reserve possibility outcome access. Yeah, that's what happens when you overload with too much stuff. Anyway, but yet, so T.J. Hunt just got advantage, the 4.7, not the 4.2. And he adores it. And this is a dude that's had L.S. swapped everything's, multiple Ferraris, like, crazy cars, and he's just, like, gushing in every episode about how usable it is.
Starting point is 01:04:21 TJ. TJ came and showed me that ass in a couple of weeks ago before I left. I'm going to make a prediction about TJ. T.J. is entering his not modding cars era. He's going to mod the hell out of that advantage, but I think he's going to, like, he's getting older. I think he's going to be in an LC-500 before long, you know?
Starting point is 01:04:38 He did get married. Congrats, T.J. in the last episode. So, yeah, we're maturing. We're growing up. TJ's going to be in a Bronco-Philson before you know it. Okay, we got to move on to questions,
Starting point is 01:04:50 which we're actually good this week, which I'm surprised about, because Sean forgot to post the questions thing until today. Oh, man. If you want to ask us questions, you go to cars and bids.com, you click on the community tab, and there will be a thing there to ask us questions usually. It depends if Sean remembers. There's times when Sean completely forgets.
Starting point is 01:05:10 There's times when Sean is completely shocked that we have a podcast. He says, oh, my God, we're recording a pod. We have a, this company has a podcast. I better get some questions up. But we got him up. Is Sean sitting there blaming Ryan Lopez? I assume he is. Not yet.
Starting point is 01:05:26 Not yet, but he will. Good questions. He's blaming Felipe. Oh, Felipe. It's his, who's in Italy right now. He should have been doing that. Filippo's on vacation. He's been on vacation for two weeks and designated people to handle all of his task while he was
Starting point is 01:05:38 gone. We're going to blame him. He's not going to watch this podcast. He's a good person to play. Do you realize, too, by the way, Philippa's not just on the vacation from work. He's on vacation from us. He doesn't reply to the group thread chat anymore. He's totally, like maybe we get one.
Starting point is 01:05:52 Nick, Nick, I'm going to, as a man who doesn't travel, you should know something about time zones. So I've been to Europe. They still have internet. The time difference, I meet with my European colleagues all the time. 8 a.m. our time is like 4 p.m. or 3 p.m. their time. Like there is enough overlap, right?
Starting point is 01:06:12 They're not in India where it's 12 and a half hours. It's reasonable. Kenan, do you think Nick's actually been to Europe? Like Nick, I've never known him to have. I've known him for a set right year. I will show you a picture of me in front of the Coliseum, ready to fight some dudes after eating a lot of Pachoi Pepe, all right?
Starting point is 01:06:26 I think this was in Las Vegas. I think that happened in Vegas. No, that's the Venetian. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Look, I'm in Venice. I think, I think, are you worried, Doug? Kenan said six years of working with you is enough.
Starting point is 01:06:40 He's out. Felipe stopped replying to our group threads. No, and I'll tell you why I'm not worried. Sean isn't posting in questions anymore. Like, it seems there's an exodus going on here. I'm not worried about Felipe. And I'll tell you why, Felipe can't quit me. He's tried.
Starting point is 01:06:54 But I've known. Felipe a lot longer, I've known Canon. You don't understand. I've known Felipe now for 10 years, and he worked with me before. He would film my videos back in the day. He was in old videos. Felipe, and now he lives near me. He lives right by me. Like, he picks up my mail. Like, he's at that level. Like, Felipe can't. We are, we are, we are like this. And, and you can't pull one without pulling the other. You know what I'm saying? Palipo is stuck with me. Begrudgingly, maybe? I don't know. Yeah, that is true, though. He can't, he can't, he can't shake you. Maybe it's like a Stockholm
Starting point is 01:07:24 syndrome thing where if you you last long enough, you get it, you get a hook to it. I've often felt that way. Okay, we got to move on to the questions. The first question from Ferrari luce enthusiast. Obviously that username was easy to grab. Dear Doug,
Starting point is 01:07:40 you love being right about cars. I'm going to stop you right there. I am right about cars. Doesn't necessarily mean I love it. He loves it. And you also love talking about what cars your friends should and should have gotten. If you were tasked with selling all of your friends' enthusiast cars, what would you replace them with and why? Well, I'm not going to talk through all my friends, but I got two of them right here. And I do want to go through that.
Starting point is 01:08:02 For Kennan, I would take him out of his E3905 and put him in the Superior W-210 Mercedes E-55 AMG. Lame. Or two-11. No, I'm kidding. Kenon belongs in a Porsche. He just doesn't know it yet. Kenan is like N is poor. I know it, but much like golf, I'm putting it off. It's something I don't want to get into. It'll come from me eventually. I'm sure. Much like golf. Kenan is a watch enthusiast. He's a hair enthusiast. He's a clothes enthusiast. He's an everything enthusiast. He belongs in a Porsche talking about grommets. He just does. Nick should be in American, like, trashy American cars. Like, he should be in a WS6 with, like, bad wheels. Like, I don't understand why he's not, honestly. That's just who he is. He should be in a Viper truck. He should
Starting point is 01:08:49 probably have a monster truck, you know, like a real one. Yeah. Are you implying my P-30 it's not a real monster truck? It's a monster. I do want to pick up and that has to be American.
Starting point is 01:09:02 I don't consider Toyota trucks. Excuse me? I'm open to a conversation. You're considered Toyota. What? Didn't you see that picture of the Toyota CEO at that NASCAR race with all the Trump stuff? Nick, you know what you should be driving?
Starting point is 01:09:17 That didn't convince me. You should be driving there. Wow, look at that. It's, that is crazy. I think, I don't know if this is true for you. So growing up in Ohio, a lot of American cars. Yeah. And much like the Ohio State versus Michigan rivalry, I felt from an early age I had to pick a side.
Starting point is 01:09:38 I had to decide, am I a Ford guy or a GM guy? And I picked Ford. And my grandpa had an F-150. And like, I've just always been a Ford guy. And like, always has kind of been like, I don't know what the right word. not resentful, but like skeptical of the GM people. Like, oh, okay, yeah, you quadrsteer. Oh, cool.
Starting point is 01:09:55 You know, like, no, I want an SVT lightning. I want an expedition, SVT Thunder clone. Like, I want the Ford. I agree with that. Maybe I'd accept a Mercury, but not, I can't. GMC is just a step too far. Last week on this podcast, when I said that I was thinking about getting a Jeep, there were a bunch of angry people who were like,
Starting point is 01:10:12 aren't you a Ford man get a Bronco? Because I have a Ford GT. And I'm like, no, I'm not a Ford man. Don't, don't tar me with Nick's brush. So you're team Chevy, huh? You got the Calvin testing on the Louisville? I've had every make and model. I've had every make of car.
Starting point is 01:10:26 I've had Kia's. I had two Cadillacs. It goes back to this holistic approach to cars that you, Euro car stop. I think it goes back to the intent of the question, which is you love being right and claiming that you're right and picking cars for everyone. All right. Well, I've picked for you guys, and I think I'm right. Next question from Ferrari 45, Nate. Dear Doug in Parliament, which decision was worse, Jaguars rebrand or the Ferrari Luce?
Starting point is 01:10:48 Lucee easy. I don't even think the Jaguars rebrand was a bad idea. This was a company that was aimless, directionless, had absolutely no chance of anything, and so they've rebranded. I don't even think it's failed yet. If they come out with a car that looks like that car, they've been trotting around, I think it could be
Starting point is 01:11:04 kind of cool, honestly. It has like a Mibok Accelero type vibe. Obviously, the announcement of the rebrand, the video, the taking a year off of building cars, which has turned into, all that has been weird, but I'm not even sure that that's a failure. The Luchet is a failure. It's a terrible,
Starting point is 01:11:20 terrible failure, and it's pathetic. And I don't think that's true of Jaguar, necessarily. It is funny, because you mentioned at the beginning, having the New Valari, the Jag, and the Luce next to one another. I saw a picture edit them together. It's like, though that's where we are now. The Luce
Starting point is 01:11:36 makes the Jaggle look like a bargain. If they produce it at the number they're going to produce it at, because $670,000 to the Luce is like, that's one of the things that really kills it for me. It's like, it's just, geez, that's so much money. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:11:50 The JAG actually looks cooler to me as a result now. On that subject, by the way, we actually have a question. I'm going to skip to it because it's a good one. Hello, from Calli Aeths. If Ferrari had released a luce at an entry-level price point, like 150 to 200, would that have been better received by the world? It's interesting, but when the 650 price tag hits,
Starting point is 01:12:08 we all think Ferrari's lost their mind. Yeah, it would have been better received, but the problem is it would have been even more delusional of the brand. And dilute it. And I think that that's the problem that Ferrari faces here. They release a car that probably should be priced around 150 to 200, but they're Ferrari, so they can't price it there. It's not a good situation all around. And I think that you can't, you can't price this car like a Maibok EQS and compete in that world. You have to price it higher
Starting point is 01:12:34 to maintain this sort of image, but then at the same time, the car doesn't actually perform at the level that we're hoping it does. And so they're like painted into a corner. Like they can't do anything but price it high. I agree. There's, there's, no pricing strategy for that car that would help or hurt worse. Like it was a lose-lose, no matter what they announced it at. Yeah. Because imagine if they had priced it at 100 or 150, and then you see them everywhere. Well, suddenly the Ferrari brand is tarnished like the Maserati Ghibli when they came out with that at $65,000. I mean, even $300K, right? Like, it's okay, that's middle of the road. Like, we wouldn't be talking, we wouldn't be criticizing
Starting point is 01:13:12 the price. We'd still be criticizing everything else. Like, I don't, there's just, there was no winning at that point. It doesn't matter. On the topic of Maserati, it was useful when Ferrari had Maserati as another brand they could use to sell less expensive models. And they still was in the same family, you know, still the same designers. You still got something that was exotic. They could be serviced at the same dealers. That was nice, and it would have been nice to have that for the Luce and had it be a Maserati. But, you know, yeah, you're exactly right.
Starting point is 01:13:36 They painted themselves into a corner and what did you expect them to do? Don't worry. It'll be worth $150,000 pretty quickly. Yeah. Question ask her, Calliase. You wanted it at $150? Give it two years. That might be two years.
Starting point is 01:13:50 I don't even know if it'll be two years. We'll see. SF 90s are already down 50%. You've got to figure this thing's going to drop even more. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if this car is trading at a third of MSRP in two years, if it ever comes out or trades at MSRP in the first place. I can't believe we're finally going to have a Ferrari that the dealers are going to have to work to sell and discount. Like what a crazy thing.
Starting point is 01:14:12 It's unbelievable. Yeah, man. Dealer, yeah, dealers begging people to take them. That's going to be, that is a new world. I hope people screenshot and share like the allocations they're offered or like the special deals and like. Oh, they will. Your and Ferrari chat, this is going to be a big story on Ferrari chat. Like, the dealer called me for the 11th time telling me he's got three Luchets on the ground.
Starting point is 01:14:34 It's just going to be a totally different experience for Ferrari than they've ever had. Like even SF 90 and 12 cylinder, which have not been tremendously successful cars, they're sold generally. They found buyers. They're selling them. It's rare that you have a Ferrari on the ground. You know, Ferrari has these rules that dealers cannot advertise like on AutoTrader at Cars.com. They only advertise on the Ferrari dealer network. Like, they don't need to advertise on those.
Starting point is 01:14:56 Well, this is going to change. Like, this is a car that's going to have to be advertised in traditional ways, probably with big least special type things, because that's the only way they're going to get these things gone. Did you see Camisa found one in the live in San Francisco shooting a TV commercial? And Ferrari again doesn't need TV commercials. Who we love dearly, but who is a contrarian, if we're being honest. Even Camisa was tremendously opposed to that car and gave a very anti-Lucci take in his post about it.
Starting point is 01:15:27 When you've lost the contrarians, you've truly lost. The comments on last week's pod, by the way, were so great on some of the, oh, every Apple device looks better with the cover, so maybe this one needs a cover too. Maybe you need to flip it upside down to charge it. Like, there was just so many hilarious takes on it. It's given us comedy. I will give Ferrari that. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:15:49 Next question from IS 500 DMAX. Hi, Doug and friends. I'm not sure I've already been mentioned, but what do you guys think about NASCAR going to the Coronado Naval Base next weekend to hold a race there? I figured I'd ask since it's close to the cars and Bids Office. Ken and Nick, are you going to this NASCAR race?
Starting point is 01:16:04 What are you doing? I don't remember. Are we going with Kevin? I thought there was something we were going to do for that. But I think it's cool. I think it is really cool. They're doing it. There used to be races on the base.
Starting point is 01:16:14 There were like things that they used to be. Vintage car races, which were really cool. We don't have any motorsport anywhere near San Diego. The nearest track is, you know, three and a half, four hours away. Like, there's nothing really here. So to have this, like, in our backyard, I think it's going to be cool. That said, getting on and off of Coronado, absolute nightmare for this. The whole entire state of Arizona is going to be in Coronado next weekend.
Starting point is 01:16:36 And most of them are already there. Yes. Most of them are already, but they're staying. It's so funny. My friend Carly, who lives in Arizona, who was like, I think she was like, I only go to Coronado when I come to San Diego I'm like, you are deep Arizona
Starting point is 01:16:49 When I lived in Arizona, we stayed in Coronado. Yeah, it's okay, exactly. Like, it's the place everybody goes, but I'm excited for it. I think it is cool as hell. And like, I'm happy. I would be going to be in real America that week, Wyoming,
Starting point is 01:17:03 fly fishing and side by siding and bonfires and smores. However, I'm pumped for it. I think it's so cool. And the fact that it's here, I think Doug, you should be driving a like Chevy Lumina pace car
Starting point is 01:17:17 or something to that effect. Yeah, I totally should be driving the pace car. Who's driving the damn pace car for this thing? It ought to be me. I'm upset now at this point. I want to be driving the pace car. It's probably T.J. Hunt and an Aston Martin. TJ always gets the cool stuff.
Starting point is 01:17:30 Am I right, Nick? He always gets the good stuff, right, bud? You know, right, Nick? How does it feel to be the second most popular YouTuber in San Diego in the car space? Second to T.J., it feels great because he's a lovely guy. If it were someone I hated, we'd have a different conversation. Okay, next question, this is actually a good question that scares me from Pricy Melons.
Starting point is 01:17:51 Speaking of Nick, Pricy Melons. Nice. Hello, Doug, and team members. We all remember how the hypercar Holy Trinity of the early 2010s was and how pivotal it was for ushering hyper technology to high performance cars. I agree with that. Would you agree that the new Holy Trinity of the mid-2020s consists of the Jaguar Type 01, the AMG GT, Fordor, EV, and the Ferrari luce?
Starting point is 01:18:12 God, how far we've fallen. And it's an interesting point. I don't think that's the Holy Trinity, but all three of those brands have all released very special, hypercar performance level electric vehicles that are at crazy price points within the last few weeks here. And man, we've fallen pretty far from Enzo, SLR, and Career GT, haven't we? I got the vibe of the, you know, the justification for higher education posters when we were kids.
Starting point is 01:18:39 Like, imagining all those cars lined up and you think, like, high school's fine, I'm good. GED, like maybe trade school. Like, if that's the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, like, I'm good. If we're working hard for a luce and a Jaguar type 01 and that corridor fish Mercedes, yep, you know what? I'm actually all set. Thank you so much. I'm going to drop out after middle school and go work on the coal mines.
Starting point is 01:19:05 From Wiley MCL, dear Doug, are there any quirks and features that you wish automakers would add to cars that do not exist currently. I think cold steering wheels would be nice. Well, I thought you were going to say climate controls on the steering wheel. Like, that's where it belongs and should be. That's true. Climate controls should be on the steering wheel. They have volume.
Starting point is 01:19:25 They should also have climate control. But why do they have heated and cooled seats, but they don't have a cooled steering wheel? Have you ever thought of that? I want to put my hands on something. Here's what I want. I want to get in a car and I want to put my hands on something that feels like an air hockey table. Sounds delightful. Why don't we have that?
Starting point is 01:19:43 I'm guessing it's because to do the heated steering wheel It's just a coil wrapped around the steering wheel That then makes it warm. Yeah, but that was true for heated seats for years And then they came out with ventilated seats. Yeah, you got more room to work with there. The steering wheel's kind of, you know, fixed. I am giving this to the automakers.
Starting point is 01:20:00 I am, listen, I am a successful business founder. I'm a fountain of ideas, okay? And here I am giving something to the automakers. It's like when I went to the Lexus Press launch and the ES, the new ES a couple weeks ago. I said your LX over there doesn't have car seat tethers in the third row. I was like, if it did, I would get one. And I don't think they care all that much.
Starting point is 01:20:20 But I was giving them an idea. This was me teaching them how to succeed. You're welcome. The entire automotive world collectively thanks you. Do you got any features you wish were in cars? Nick would be shocked to know what features are in cars. The features I want are V8, manual transmission, and triple lockers. Nick could be like, they got auto wipers?
Starting point is 01:20:45 You can, whoa. I did, I just want themselves? How do they know when to wipe? What is it? Streaming Bluetooth music into one of my cars recently, and that's a game changer. That should be a standard feature. I'll tell you what I wish they bring to the United States. They have it in Europe is the auto dimming feature for, like the auto dip feature for one side of the road.
Starting point is 01:21:02 So like the oncoming traffic dips on one side, but you can still see beyond that. It has finally been approved. and that new Audi Q7 that we talked about has it. And it's not just that. It's not just that because now there's LEDs. So there's individual LEDs within the headlights. And they finally approved the ability to darken individual LEDs. And I used this in 2019 on a Mercedes-Benz in Europe, and it was amazing.
Starting point is 01:21:25 You could have your high beams on you full blast and a car would come towards you and it would just darken the high beams in that column where the car was. and otherwise it was full blast high beams the rest of it. So it wouldn't blind the person and you could still see. It was incredible. And that is finally, finally legal in the U.S. There are other things that I wish the manufacturer to do. Kind of like what the Chinese manufacturers are doing,
Starting point is 01:21:51 like where stuff floats or it jumps, like crazy stuff with cars. We have the ability, like, do it. Like a lot of cars, especially those EVs, are just kind of all the same, if we're honest. Performance is crazy. You know, they're silent. So more gimmicky, cool stuff like that. I agree. I'm here for it. I agree. Give it time. They'll come. As EVs proliferate, they will come.
Starting point is 01:22:11 I'm going to do two other questions, two other questions, two other questions. From MB West 7,000, Dear Kennan and Other Degenerates, boy, isn't that true? Especially when it's the three of us. Dear Kennan and other degenerates, what is the proper way to organize service records into various paperwork documenting a car's history? Is stuffing it all in a folder sufficient, or must documents be placed in clear sleeves in a three-ring binder with an accompanying spray? Gosh. Come with the spreadsheet. Kenan,
Starting point is 01:22:38 did you write this question? No, I didn't. It's a beautiful question. It is a beautiful question. Yeah, as it always is. That's what you would do
Starting point is 01:22:46 if you were Kenan to throw off the scent. If this was not Kennan, it was a, it was Kenan's summer intern. Right. Is Kenan's summer intern? That's right. No, I mean,
Starting point is 01:22:57 it might be, if you want the real answer to this, I believe so you open up the binder. There should be a cover sheet first that tells you what the car is and has a logo on it and your VIN and all that stuff.
Starting point is 01:23:06 You open that up, and then in there, you should have, like, I like to have, like, the window sticker, anything that originally came with the car. After that, then I have, like, start with registration stuff. And then chronologically, from the oldest piece of service documentation all the way to the newest. And it should be done, they should be in acid-free sleeves so that doesn't pull the ink out of the pages. And then you just be able to flip through it. That's like, and I like to have it, like, labeled by year, like, so you could quickly get to it if you need to. So that's how I like to do it. And my service binder is about, I'm actually able to switch, I'm switching to volume two because I have a four inch binder and I filled it all the way up.
Starting point is 01:23:41 So it's time I'm embarrassed to admit that this is more or less how I organize my service documentation as well for my cars. With the exception of my daily drivers, which are just stuffed into a folder, but I do have everything. Well, it's good that you have it. I can organize it for you if you wish. That is something that I do. I love doing that. Well, no, the dailies, I don't care about the dailies. My other cars, all the good cars I have, it is organized just like you said.
Starting point is 01:24:05 That's how it should be. Because how else am I supposed to find something if I need to find a specific record? And then I also have a spreadsheet. Yeah, as do I. The spreadsheet's much more advanced than the binder. There are a lot of functions. Don't you find, maybe it's me, there's a point of which I don't want to know anymore. Right?
Starting point is 01:24:23 Like the P38, I think the ownership experience would be better if I didn't keep track of the service. Because you forget, you know, like evolutionary-wise, like we have adapted as a species to forget the traumatic and the bad experiences, and remember the good experiences better. And like, the service records to me are like the trauma that I'm holding on to. Like, it would be like keeping track of every report card I had. Like, I don't want to see that. Well, I like it. I like knowing.
Starting point is 01:24:49 Yeah. I like knowing. It's very different philosophies. Part of it is I buy slightly nicer cars than you do. Well, your binder, you're going on a volume two. I don't know if that's working. Yeah, I've done 100,000 miles. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:01 Over 10 years. Especially for the purpose of selling the car. later you want to know. And also you want to know what you have replaced and when. I mean, it's important. Nick, you don't keep cars long enough, so it doesn't matter. I went through the binder on my P38, and so, okay, the heater core O-rings were replaced, as was the math sensor within the last 20,000 miles.
Starting point is 01:25:22 Guess what both failed, right? And all it did was throw me off or I didn't replace those parts because I thought, oh, well, someone already replaced them. They should be fine. Guess what? That car is a different situation because that car is trash. I'm going to do one more question. Okay, it's vintage and that's acceptable.
Starting point is 01:25:41 I'm going to do one more question. From ME 044, Dear Doug, how high would the price in the career G-t need to rise before you would no longer be comfortable driving it? Kenan, what do you think? We're getting there. Pretty close. It's, I mean, the number you bought it at versus what it's worth now, I mean, it's just a lot because the thing with your car, the career gt is unusual is it doesn't doesn't get noticed by people, by like normal people. It kind of just blends in the background.
Starting point is 01:26:09 If your car enthusiasts, you know what it is. And if you're not, then you don't notice, which is part of the appeal. However, that also means that normal people pull out in front of you, cut you off, like, and they don't understand that if something happens, it will change the financial trajectory of their lives. And like, and like, it's just nerve-wracking. And I can imagine, like, for you, like, that's, yes, you do have money to afford that car, but it's like, if anything happens, it's just, it's terrifying. Yeah, it's scary.
Starting point is 01:26:35 I don't drive it much, which sucks because the best thing about it is how it drives, and that's why it has become so valuable because it is such a great car to drive. The best thing about it is not looking at it, is not thinking about it, is not even showing people because they go into my garage, casual car enthusiasts, they don't know what it is. The best thing about it is driving it, and it's becoming untenable. Nick, how expensive what the P-38 have to be before you stop? I think that is a hypothetical that will never. occur? What about
Starting point is 01:27:06 asked a different way? How much money do you have to drop into your P38 before you think about maybe? It's starting to get so nice. I installed a glove box last weekend and let me tell you what, just classes it up a notch. When you say it's starting to get so nice, is that
Starting point is 01:27:23 inclusive of your experience where it failed on a short camp, a one hour drive? Yeah, because I replaced all the coolant hoses now. And so it just, it feels very strong. very ready for the next 10,000 miles. But you know what?
Starting point is 01:27:37 I'll bet you it isn't. I bet you it isn't. No chance. I love that truck. I know it's stupid. It's just like you fall in love with some things. With all of its flaws, maybe because of all of its flaws, that's how I feel about the P30.
Starting point is 01:27:52 I truly believe, and I know you think this is crazy or that I'm just saying it, it is everything that people love about the D90 and D110 defenders, just nicer. Right? Like, it's a little rickety. That's a little crappy. My defender 90, because it wasn't. nice. It was a truck. No, no, but this isn't nice either. The P38
Starting point is 01:28:09 is not nice. No, it is. It's just a little bit nicer, a little bit more usable than a defender, but otherwise the same vibes. You're just a rough riding, high-setting, off-roader. That's now what we're looking for. We like getting into a car that had no door tops, and you just turn, you can turn the keys standing outside of it, and it rumbles, and it's rough and ridiculous. That's what we like to
Starting point is 01:28:29 all of the above is true for the P-38. It's a farm-the-door. The T-38 is is luxurified for people like you who need sort of a coddling experience. Okay, Mr. Turn Signal here, let me tell you how luxurified this thing is. It is plastic, it is cracking, there are holes in it. It is not nice by anyone's standards. It is acceptable. It sounds pretty good.
Starting point is 01:28:49 Sounds like it's ready for the next 10,000 miles. Anyway, it's been an absolute pleasure. Kenan anything to add. Go check out Canon R. Kenan R. Kennan's car auction representation business. Kenan is going to be a killer. Yep, thank you. You can email me too at Auctions at Kenan R.
Starting point is 01:29:03 Come, but go check out the video. And like I said, I will still be here. I'm delighted to be here. It's one of my favorite hours of the week that I get to spend talking with you guys. You degenerates, fellow degenerates. Yeah. Fellow degenerates.
Starting point is 01:29:12 Goodbye, everyone. Thank you for a wonderful podcast. Goodbye.
