Starting point is 00:00:04 And welcome to this car pod. I'm Kenan. I'm Philippa. And today we have a lot of great stuff to talk about starting with the biggest thing of all. We've launched a new video series where we've all bought cars, me, Kenon, Felipe, and our friend Nick. Yeah. And we're going to do fun things with them for a few videos. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:00:23 The very first video is live right now. And there will be two more where we do challenges and other craziness. We are doing top gear here at the Cars and Bids. office. And in the desert. And in the desert, which you will see. Now, the reason for the video series is we've just launched a new merch line. I'm wearing some.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Felipe is not, but other people will. And if you buy our merch, you can be registered to win one of the cars from the challenge. You can pick. The winner will pick the car they want. No one will pick the Corvette. But yes, you can go to merch. like CarsenVids.com for a lot more details. All the rules on the contest are atmerch.cdcarsandbiz.com.
Starting point is 00:01:08 No purchase necessary. Voidware prohibited. Nice. Well done. Well done. But at the end of the challenge, at the end of our merch giveaway, the winner will be able to pick one of the cars, except for Nix, which he personally owns. He doesn't have that one.
Starting point is 00:01:21 You got to pick one of the other ones. And you're going to pick the M5 probably. That's our video series. And it's very exciting. And there's going to be a few more. And you should watch and participate and play along at home. Okay, on to the new stories. Give us the first one.
Starting point is 00:01:37 All right. Lucid teased on social media that they had, so you know how like police departments do testing to figure out their next pursuit vehicle? Lucid has entered that competition and they were, they're part of the testing for the next pursuit vehicle in California, I think. Right. And the lucid air is one of them. It's odd because the lucid air is an expensive car. Well, it's gotten cheaper. Plus lease deals.
Starting point is 00:01:58 I don't know. I don't think you can lease a police. They like drill holes in them. Right. I know, but they could probably make it. I think Luce is looking for sales. Also, that looks good. It does look good.
Starting point is 00:02:08 I'll give you that. I think a lot of cars would look good as police vehicles. Yeah. However, that doesn't necessarily mean they would be a good. It's a tool at the end of the day. It's one of the longest range EVs. It's got a large backseat.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Yeah. That's all you need. Yeah. However, it costs $125,000. No, the air pure is like $70 now. Okay, but what's a charger? I assume also, I don't know. I don't know how much money is a time.
Starting point is 00:02:31 I think you're assuming wrong. I think the charger is less. Like how much Ford Explorer is like a $50,000 cars. Presumly the pursuit vehicle is also a $50,000, $60,000 car. Well, yeah, but after they add stuff, but when they add stuff to this, it's also going to be expensive. At least it's got deep dish steelys.
Starting point is 00:02:47 I don't, isn't that cool? It looks so cool. Anyway, I think the whole thing is unusual. I will say, are we thinking that this is a desperation play from Lucid? Is that what we're? It's questionable, but it does look cool. And that post probably performed great on Instagram. Here's a story for you.
Starting point is 00:03:00 I went to Canada to film a film. collab with this Canadian tech YouTuber Linus TechTips. Very well-known tech YouTuber. I don't know if you know them. You don't know anything about building the PC. Me and Canon. And even I know.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I've done it in the fast. Anyway, so I was showing in the website and I showed him because we were talking about electric cars and I was showing him lucid air results and how cheap they are. And he goes, no offense. But if this is all that your website is getting for these cars, why would anyone want to use your website to sell a car?
Starting point is 00:03:25 And I was like, you don't understand. This is what they're worth. That's what they all sell for. This is a pretty good result. actually. Yeah. So needless to say, the lucid air demand has not been huge. I think that they are hoping that they can be supported by many police departments around
Starting point is 00:03:41 the country. By the way, I should put a little caveat here. Elucidia demand has been bad. The cars are taking in value. I love them. They're awesome. They're just really expensive for what they are. And no one really wants it.
Starting point is 00:03:51 But as a police car with Steelies, looks great. And they use laser is their like lane guidance thing that sets off the radar detector on the E3-9 and 5 all the time. Really? When it goes off and there's laser in a place where it wouldn't be. I'm like, it's a lucid. And then boom, there it is, it's lucid every time.
Starting point is 00:04:05 So they would continue to go off, but this time it actually would be lazy. No, that would be so problematic. Can I say one thing about other police cars? Yeah. All right, you got know how the charger for a long time was the police car of choice? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:16 All right, charger was discontinued last year. Yeah. There are still 5,000 chargers and challengers on dealer lots. Yeah. Fun fact, they stopped production a year ago. Wow. Wow. Rob situation.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Yeah. There will be a new charger. The year, then at this year, the charger EV will be out. You know, we were, the story we were told was that the car was tremendously popular and they were only discontinuing
Starting point is 00:04:33 due to restrictions. Yeah. The 5,000 of them. That's not a huge amount. They stopped production a year ago. Yeah. Wow. Is that a good Trump Challenger? Yeah. And I'll sell them.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Some of those are demons that they haven't been titled that's still on MSO. Right. True. 12 of them are demons that have been titled still on MSO. I will say there was news this week that Dodge is moving up the launch
Starting point is 00:04:57 of the gas-powered charger. Initially their plan was to launch to EV. At the end of this year, so in December, and then the gas one next December. Now they're moving it to early summer for the gas one. Hurricane powered. Yeah. I'm not surprised to hear that.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I think the reality of the situation is simply that electric cars are having the impact that they were intended to have. I was talking about last week, probably even less so going forward. Yeah. So that's not really all that's surprising. I don't find 5,000 still on dealer lots to be that huge of a deal. They're going to be fine. They'll sell them. You and me will get one.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Okay. Move on to the next news. Oh, this new story. Did you see this? This is all over everything. There's a Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership, apparently, in Kentucky that when a viper, the Viper was new, the original Viper was new, they just put one on their sign in front, and then they've since, they periodically remove it, you know, to, like, clean it and make it nice again,
Starting point is 00:05:49 and they've done that this week. And so there were pictures of it with, like, rats nest, yeah, infested all over the interior. Tragic. But it's going to be down for a few months while they kind of fix it up, and then they put it back on. Are they putting it back up? Yeah, they are. Now, a couple of interesting things. Go back to the shot.
Starting point is 00:06:03 This sign is not compliant. This is not a Chrysler thing. So this dealership clearly is kind of doing their own thing, obviously, because they have to call out Scott's crane service to take a viper off the sign. You think they call Scott? And he's like, yep. All right. I was there eight years ago when we did it.
Starting point is 00:06:20 We'll do it again. The irony, of course, is that Dodge no longer sells any cars. Yeah. So. Well, they got the, they got 5,000 challenges. There you got. It's an 800 of them here at this dealership. Anyway, this was an interesting story.
Starting point is 00:06:35 It was odd to me that they threw wheels on it. Yeah, that is an interesting move. A lot of people put aftermarket wheels on original vipers because they, the tire size, it became hard to find tires. But that's not really a problem of it for this car. No, it's not really in motion, you know. The birds don't mind. The date codes are expired. The date codes are old, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Anyway, so that's an interesting situation. Filippa, any comment? No, only that you forgot to mention RAM is one of the brands at the dealership. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Missouri. Presumably, they have all them. Fiat. Whenever Fiat decides they want to sell a car in the United States. Well, they hope to.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Yeah, it's a tough situation. But how many people you think this brought in? How many nions did this sell back in the day that there was a viper on the sign outside? So many. So many. Interesting. Worth every penny. This is advertising.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Interesting use of a halo car. Put it literally above people. Well, remember the Audi R8 brought people in a dealers and they bought eight fours? Boom. Yeah. Got neon. Probably equally successful on the sign as just it existing. Beautiful situation.
Starting point is 00:07:43 Okay. Next news story, please. Ah, yes. Cadillac has announced a new electric SUV called the Vistique. Yep. Now, Cadillac, I do find it interesting. They've decided to go back to naming their cars. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:54 That's right. Which Lincoln pioneered. And by Pioneer, I mean, they started doing it two years ago. But Cadillac has decided they're going to stop with the CT6, CT8, CTF. And all their electric cars seem to be having names like Vestique and Celestique. And they all have cues. And Escalade IQ, which, it should be Esquelaide. It should be Esquelaide.
Starting point is 00:08:16 It really should be. Anyway, I don't think about this car. And I know if they released any details. And even if they did, obviously, we wouldn't remember it. It's an electric car. It looks like it's XTS sized. A cue. the lyric with the queue. But yeah, I will tell you this. Looks good. The Cadillac XT6 is a mid-sized
Starting point is 00:08:30 sport utility vehicle. I call it their XTS. Oh my goodness. They've been manufacturing for five or six years now. It's generally agreed to be middle of the road, not a high-quality vehicle. However, I think it's beautiful. It looks great. Here is an electric version of it, essentially. It's like the same overall size. This looks like a nice car. It looks great. It looks weird. I, the literally looks kind of weird, but it looks good. And the light treatment is excellent. If you see one at night, it looks so cool. It does look nice. This looks nice. This looks nice. This looks nice. Nice. Does those look nice?
Starting point is 00:08:56 I legitimately think it's one of the Cadillac's best designs. Yeah. That's a little bit much. This is like a little more string, a little classier. Right. Yeah. No, I think this looks good.
Starting point is 00:09:05 The Escalade IQ especially is a little bit much. It's big and gaping. Okay. Long time ago, you sent me a photo of one around. I have not seen a single one. I saw one in July. And here we are in November. It's not on sale.
Starting point is 00:09:18 And San Diego is a great barometer for that because we get everything that's new. Well, except for Cadillac. That particular one I saw in Nantucketut. But it had made. manufacturer plates. It wasn't a, it wasn't a, so you even seen one owned by the public. No, it's not for sale. It's no, it's still not on the market. It's a slow rollout. But anyway, I think that at the very least that this looks cool. It looks so good. It looks so good. It's going hard on EVs. They, which is going to be questionable. Celestique, with Vistique now. Isn't there a little one?
Starting point is 00:09:44 There is one a little one announced that I don't know what it's called, but it's some of the queue. They're going hard on EB's in the market is not. Every lyric I see is a Uber black. Do you agree? That's all escalates. And it's all. No, everything. lyric i'm so sorry yeah no there's a few in our neighborhood that are that are leased uh they're highly subsidized least deals what can you what can you lose one of those for i think like in the four hundreds i imagine the optic is the or up teak is the small upteak can you put up a picture of the upteak i'd like to see what that looks like opi it's like optic but with a cue oh no oh with a cue it also looks good yeah but not
Starting point is 00:10:25 This is a Blazor EV. Yeah, or a Necronoxia. I don't know what the chassis is. Yikes. Well, the one we're just looking at, whatever it's called, looks better. Yeah, sure. It's hard to remember. They decided to go with names, but half the name on all the cars is the same.
Starting point is 00:10:41 So instead of like XT, XT, XT, XT, XT, it's going to be eek, eek, on every car. Eek, eke, eke, all right, give us the next thing. Destroy, please. Oh. A few weeks ago, we talked about the passport, the Honda Passport, which is a smaller version of the pilot, off-road version. They were like teaser shots. And now it has been fully revealed.
Starting point is 00:10:59 And it looks good. It does look good. There's people talking about how it's a pretty legit off-roader. Yeah. In the same way that like all of these are vaguely legit off-roaders. They're saying that an out-back wilderness
Starting point is 00:11:09 is a legit off-roader. But the forerunner is a legit off-roader. No, it's not like that. But why not do that? Well, because they don't build. They don't build. They don't know. The last truck they built was at a Zuzer Rodeo.
Starting point is 00:11:19 It's all marketing them. This car has more cool stuff than the previous passport had. The previous passport was literally a pilot just shrunk a little bit. Right. This looks at least a little bit different. Looks cool.
Starting point is 00:11:31 The orange DRLs look good. They do. And the side profile shots also look pretty good. It's a good looking car. Yeah, no, I agree with that. It is a nice looking car. I'm always concerned about the reality of an off-road vehicle
Starting point is 00:11:46 if it doesn't have body on frame and all sorts of off-road. Nobody cares. Everybody just wants it to look like it could go off-road. What do you want? What do you want from your off-roading vehicle? I want it to say 70-series land cruiser. That's what I want.
Starting point is 00:11:57 You won't accept anything short of a 70-ser's land cruiser. You know what this has? That the 70-series doesn't have? Stable picnic table. Like the old CRV? Like the old CRV? Wow. They claim it also has rock sliders and trail-watch cameras.
Starting point is 00:12:12 That's legit. This is maybe not as bad as I was thinking it would be. I just, who in this segment is not getting a grand Cherokee or a forerunner? The problem is Honda has watched those cars be successful. Ford made the same mistake with the edge. They've watched those cars be successful and they don't quite understand what has made them successful,
Starting point is 00:12:28 which is like real capability to back up. Like everybody who tries to do a G-Wagon and doesn't really do it, it fails. Because like the whole people want to buy capability they don't need. And Honda's like, well, we're going to give you all the capability you do need and none of the extra.
Starting point is 00:12:41 And it's like, you don't get it. People, what sells the car is the capability they're not going to use. I think you're wrong because you are well aware because you live in the same area. There's so many cross-track wildernesses about like a third of cross tracks sold are wildernesses that might may or may not be true
Starting point is 00:12:56 but I think it is yeah right and like are they doing anything no but they want it to look off-roady you're buying a password because you want to look off-roady yeah why you're not buying a CRV will never there's no off-road or in that segment really but like same is true for the forester wilderness which does exist and the outback wilderness yeah and those aren't around though they are around look around look around I've never seen a forester world really I've never seen in my life outback wilderness you just haven't been looking but I think there is a market for people that want something that they are confident can go down the dirt road they go
Starting point is 00:13:26 down once a year even though a regular passport or a Camry could as well but they want the appearance of it and this will do enough of it yeah I mean that's definitely true and it's a nice looking car I agree with you on that and I'm glad that they added a little bit more true capability because they have been marketing this as an off-rider for a while and that has not been true
Starting point is 00:13:43 and it's nice to actually have some real capability you and me can take it on the trails when they send me away I would love to do that I will say I don't like to have the back looks but that's a well I well look you don't have to see it when in it. The holiday season is starting, so this is the time when it gets harder to stay on top of your health routine. That's why I decided to add AG1 to my morning routine. Before I get into my full workday of making my videos going over quirks and features, it's important to make sure I'm taking care of myself. I try to start my morning with cardio, beating Kenan and Felipe on the
Starting point is 00:14:13 tennis court. Adding AG1 ensures I'm also starting my morning with a foundational nutritional supplement, too. Many of you already know my favorite drink is cold water and adding AG1 to water. It's easy to drink and it helps me be on top of my game. So, this holiday season, try AG1 for yourself or even gift it to someone special. It's the perfect time to focus on supporting your body with an easy and delicious daily health drink. And that's why I'm so excited to be partnering with them. Every week of November, AG1 will be running a special Black Friday offer with a free gift for your first subscription. in addition to the welcome kit with vitamin D3 plus K2. So make sure to check out drinkag1.com slash carpod to see what gift you can get this week.
Starting point is 00:15:01 That's drinkag1.com slash car pod to start your holiday season off on a healthier note while supplies last. Okay, move on to the next news story, please. All right, real cars. So Porsche has added two new models to the Taekon range and they've added a body. style. So they've given us the Tycon 4. A body thought they already had. Yes. But they kind of, they brought it. I don't know. It is a refresh and it wasn't here for the first year. Right. Exactly. It wasn't here for the first year. So they've given us the Tycon 4 and the GTS. So they've given us the Ticcon 4 and the GTS. The four obviously being all wheel drive, which is important. That car,
Starting point is 00:15:35 it's still pretty impressive. It does 0.164.4 seconds, which is it ain't slow, but I guess none of the ticons are. But the real one to talk about is the GTS, which now has 690 horsepower. And it got like a couple different things. You could option rear-wheel-draft string and handle better and blah, blah, blah. But I guess they thought they needed to broaden this range more. My belief was they weren't selling all that many taikons these days. There are 11 models now. That's a lot. Like two more kind of feels like a lot. Yeah. It is a lot, especially considering that sales have not really been great. But they can sell them in different trims without much effort because it's just like different states of tune.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Sure, but yeah, they're still expensive. The four starts at 105 grand. And the Sport Tourismo GTS is 151.7. The good news is that in a year and a half, they'll all be worth the equivalent $60,000. Pull up Taekons on the site. Yeah, exactly. Like, it's just, there's not a lot of demand for these cars. They're cool.
Starting point is 00:16:36 But like, there's not a lot of... $47 for 4S from 2020. 92 for a 23 GTS. That's like the one. Yeah. We were discussing today, though, does Tycon? Sport tourism might be the best looking EV for sale. Yeah, no, it does, I agree with that.
Starting point is 00:16:52 And also, like, the most car enthusiast to EV, like we were saying. But, like, the values just become so low, so quickly, which speaks to the level of demand that this car has. And so I appreciate that they're offering new models, but Porsche must realize, like, there's not huge interest in Taekina. It's interesting that Porsche continues to invest in Taekonline at the level that they are considering that. I think there are in D. I mean, this was in motion years ago. already. So I think they just have to do it at this point. They're kind of stuck with it. Otherwise, it's just a complete loss all together. So maybe we're going to roll it out as it was.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Still, you know, it is interesting. Like we've talked about many times now that they are now kind of walking back the EV thing pretty quickly here. So I am kind of curious to see. I mean, the face of the perimeter, but will there be a gas macon or will it be EV only? I've, I've seen one. McCann E.V. Are they preparing for when that doesn't sell? I guess we'll see. I think they're probably as anxious about it as anybody. Yeah, it's an interesting situation. McCona V. I'm not really sure about.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Yeah, same. Have you driven? You haven't driven one? No, but they're purportedly going to send me one soon. Okay, give us another one. Ooh, yes. All right. This is a Mercedes AMG GT 43. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:07 The 43 has been revealed. Yeah, as that's pricing. Base model. First of all, Doug, can you have so much horse? power this has. It is, of course, a two-door rear-wheel drive, unlike the rest of which are all-wheel-drive, sports car. It's got probably like 500 horsepower.
Starting point is 00:18:22 It's got 416 horsepower from a 2-liter in-line 4. 4-16? Yeah, 1-6. Yeah, because it's the 2-liter 4. Okay. Without the hybrid components. So what are they charging for it? 107 is the MSRP.
Starting point is 00:18:35 No-7 base. I mean... So you're paying $107,000 for a 416 horsepower coop. It's another car that appreciates fast. It's interesting. These automakers release all these cars. It's funny. We've talked about Lucid Air, Tycon, and now AMGT-Forty-G-G-G-G-T,
Starting point is 00:18:49 all of which have been tremendously fast appreciators in the used market. They're all released by these automakers, and then immediately they have these massive incentives on these cars to try to get people to buy them. The coop segment is a tough one. The luxury coupe segment is a tough one. Mercedes really was trying to compete with 9-11. They made the new SL sportier.
Starting point is 00:19:06 It hasn't worked. They made the AMGG-G-T just essentially a coupe version of the SL to kind of combine them into one car. I think that's just confusing. Frankly, I think this car is confusing in general. it's just an odd market segment i get what they're trying to because like i how much horsepower does a base 9-11 have 400 something presumably no i think it was i think it's three okay great so they're beating the base 9-11 an lcc 500 is around 100 grand too like i get how they're
Starting point is 00:19:33 getting to that price it's similar horsepower for a similar price point with other luxury cubes but this is a car nobody cares yeah people want 9-11s want 9-11 people like people that will But want a GT, an MGGGT, want more than 416 horsepower from a 4 cylinder. Yeah. They don't want a 4 cylinder. And then if they do, they want actual power. This is ultimately going to be like a least play for people who want like something cool. And it does look good.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Yeah. No, it does look good. And they're going to be able to get them at pretty good incentivized rates pretty soon. Yeah. But to be honest with you, I've been kind of confused about this whole thing since the SLS. The SLS came, like, the SLS was like very high performance. It competed with the 4-5-8. Like, it was a big.
Starting point is 00:20:14 brawny 6-2, like 6.2-Liver V8, really powerful car. Then the AMG GT came out with substantially less power, still amazing looks and kind of felt like that, but it wasn't anywhere near on the performance level the SLS was. And then they made a gazillion different trims of it that no one knows or can keep straight. I think Mercedes, I think the goal was,
Starting point is 00:20:33 they first came out the SLR. And I think the goal initially always was for these cars to be Halo cars, but they realized the same thing Alexis realized the LFA, which is that a halo car that costs a half million dollars doesn't have enough of a halo effect. So they've subsequently lowered the price point. But now it's not even really a halo car and trying to compete with the 9-11. Mercedes doesn't know what to.
Starting point is 00:20:52 The answer is Mercedes doesn't know what you with the SL. And they're confused because no one is buying the SL and no one's bought the SL in 10 years. And so they're confused about where to take the SL. And so this time they've merged with AMGGT, I guarantee this will not be the strategy for the next generation if the cars even stick around. Plus, if you're doing that and you want to be vaguely a halo card, just do the 63. don't do a 400 horsepower four cylinder one. Right.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Also, by the way, used AMGGTs with an actual V8 are 60. Yeah. Which is a deal. Yeah. Yeah. But I mean,
Starting point is 00:21:25 a new car is a new car and it's a different kind of world. Different world. Nonetheless, it is pricey for what it is and that engine has not been getting a lot of great feedback in the world. No, this is without the hybrid stuff. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:34 $25,000 a cylinder. Oh, boy. All right. Give us the next one. We get another great news story here. our friend Marquez Brownlee. Any other friend of the channel? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:44 So Marquez does this video with a Lamborghini where he's going too fast and people lose it in the comments. I can't believe you're going so fast. He blurred the speedo, but the Ruelto has the passenger side. There's a passenger side. I just want to say this. Oh. All right. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:02 The number one criticism I get. The number one video criticism I get is that I do not. drive the cars hard enough. Number one. And if you watch my videos in the video, there's like a three-minute segment where I drive the car at kind of normal speeds. And people are always like, he just, whenever you get into a Doug Demuro comment thing on Reddit or wherever, the number one thinking, he never, he doesn't even know how to drive. He only drives slow. He's, he doesn't really test the cars. He doesn't really get in the, he doesn't know anything. And, um, Farah has also gotten in trouble for the same thing that Marquez has gotten in trouble with now.
Starting point is 00:22:40 And I just find it to be grading. It is difficult as a content creator. And when I was thinking about this today, like when I started off in my YouTube world, I was kind of famous for like replying to everybody and being very engaged with the audience. And it's hard to stay at that level because you are just getting ridiculous criticism constantly all the time. Now, Marquez is going too fast in a, you know, 90 or whatever in a 40. Yeah, it's wrong. But if he didn't, he would get the criticism I get.
Starting point is 00:23:11 And I think he would actually get more of it because because he's a tech YouTuber, he doesn't have as much credibility in the car space to begin with. And so he needs to prove to these people that he can drive the cars fast and can actually feel the handling and give good, honest, like, review opinions based on his driving experience. And so what I tell people now is I drive the cars correctly, not on camera. and then on camera, I just put my take. But it doesn't stop people from saying literally the number one. I mean, it is a constant complaint that I hear that I don't drive the cars fast enough.
Starting point is 00:23:39 And I think the answer is you can't placate people. No, the channels that have made it a point to do a lot of drag races on closed tracks, get around that in a really smart way. Yeah, you can do it if you rent out tracks, which is not feasible for almost everybody. And so then you have to either choose to do what I do and get that complaint or choose to do it. He didn't get that complaint. and those are basically the only two ways around it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Admittedly, he was going fast and, well, I believe it was not actually an active school zone, but in a school zone. I learned my lesson. I learned my lesson from Farah. I wouldn't do what he did. But I feel for him because I know that the alternative is also getting complaints. And I texted him and I said, you know, what I learned of my channel is, what I do, I make my goal to get the fewest number of complaints. It is my goal is not to get zero complaints and it's not to make the most people happy. It is to get the fewest amount of complaints.
Starting point is 00:24:29 And so some of the choices I make are for that reason. And, you know, he drives a Revuelto slowly. People are going to be like, well, you didn't drive it hard, but that's still a lesser thing than going over the speed limit. You're still going to get complaints. It's YouTube. It's the way the audience is. And it's difficult, though, as a creator, to just kind of, there's no way to win some of this stuff. It's not.
Starting point is 00:24:51 That's my Marquez rant. I don't think I wouldn't have done it and I don't do it on camera, ever. don't do it on camera. Wink. But like, I think you have to wink. But the audience doesn't buy it. One of the things that has blown me away doing YouTube videos is realizing that whatever the audience thinks they see, they just, that's the truth to them. Like, I will post a video that I shot in Kansas a year ago.
Starting point is 00:25:15 And people will be like, oh, my God, you're in Kansas? It's like, it doesn't work out. First of all, there's snow on the ground right now or there's leaves that when you're, for the summer again. I get. I get that, though. People are watching what they're watching. They're not thinking of how they don't see the seams of how it's put together.
Starting point is 00:25:31 But my point is, so when I drive the car slowly, they just assumed the only time I ever had to drive that car was the two and a half minutes we ended it. It's like what? I will say you always made the smart decision to not do a forward-facing camera. Yeah. To not show the speed-off. And people complain about it. And now you understand why. And it's not just Marquez.
Starting point is 00:25:48 It's Fara. It's everybody else who's done this. You make a choice. Who do you want to upset? and then you go and make YouTube video he had a good good apology on social media
Starting point is 00:26:01 he apologized and it was lovely and what this is going to do is mean that he's not going to drive the cars fast on camera anymore and I promise you within six months YouTube will have forgotten that this happened and instead they'll be complaining that he doesn't six months I give it two and a half weeks maybe tops
Starting point is 00:26:13 okay next we're going to talk about cars which is what we've been doing the big talk cars thing is that my career at GT has gone in for the big recall This was a couple days ago. Remind me what this entails. There's a suspension recall where some suspension component, they showed me the component, it's tremendously small.
Starting point is 00:26:32 In theory will corrode, and then the car will crash and will die. So many of these cars see corrosive elements. They're the climate control garages they sit in. The whole thing is obviously laughable, especially because they didn't get a single car that actually crashed. But they showed me what they're replacing. And so there's a little, there's a little suspension. part inside of like a rubber seal bearing thing. And because they can't replace just that,
Starting point is 00:27:00 they're replacing all this suspension work around it. And it's crazy. I mean, it's a lot of stuff. It's a lot of like very expensive titanium parts. It's a component within a bushing within a control arm. Yeah, yeah. Exactly. So they're replacing an enormous amount.
Starting point is 00:27:14 I mean, not an enormous amount, but a car like that, it gets expensive faster. You're talking about titanium parts for free. Suspension, it's like, depending on where it is, the disassembly in order to replace it can be expensive. And then you have to sometimes do an alignment and all the other stuff. Which they are going to do because they're also going to be free tires. And a couple of interesting things came out of this.
Starting point is 00:27:32 First off, I got a loaner car. And the dealer told me that I am the first career GT owner in the history of the dealership to request a loaner car. So I got a base cayenne. And it's great. I'll tell you. Heck of a car. We still don't know if it's a post face lift or preface level.
Starting point is 00:27:50 I think it's new. I don't know much. We got a base Kyan. The other thing that happened is I decided I would also do the four-year service because it's been five years since I did the four-year service. It's since I didn't own the car then. Confusing. So I call a dealer and I say, look, you know, while the car is there,
Starting point is 00:28:07 might as well do this five-year-serve. Porsche is giving a credit to the career two T-hunter is $3,500 towards your service. And so I figured I said, yeah, I might as well apply that towards this four-year service. He said, yeah, it's no problem. And it'll be about $15,000. And I'm like, what? What? But he said it like it was like an oil chain.
Starting point is 00:28:27 I mean, it is 1% of the value of the car. If I get an oil change in the Fiat, it's 1% of the value of the car. So think about it. That's not to calculate oil change. It's the old 1% here. Anyway, so I agreed to that. But we took some stuff off of the four-year service. One of the things that they look for is coil pack.
Starting point is 00:28:45 And apparently mine was replaced five years ago. And they don't think it'll need another one. And the 3,500 credit goes toward it. And so I think it'll be something they, It's insane. Yeah, that's rough. All it is is like a couple of fluids, drive belts, and like break fluid. There's not much to it.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Oil change. That's 15 Gs, huh? You believe that? Yes, we have an expression in the indie community for service. You took it to the Steelership. That's what happened there. But what do you? It's a courage to you.
Starting point is 00:29:16 You can't. Short of sending it to Jimmy. Yeah, those are your two options. Where you're spending. Five grand for shipping. And Jimmy, sometimes. I wonder though, because Jimmy's, Jimmy's very reasonable price, like, would the shipping maybe worth it? But it's also a troop movement is dangerous for a car like that, like getting
Starting point is 00:29:31 it on a truck and all that. Yeah, especially with the clutch. Like, it's a whole thing. So they're doing the old four-year service. But anyway, the thing that all this got started for in my mind was the mission X, oh, the new electric hypercar, which apparently they're not going to make or are going to make. Can you pull up a push for the mission X? Because it's going to be honest. I looked at this the other day. I don't remember what it looks like. Ooh, the accurate ADF. One is shorter than the RDX. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:29:54 You think that's part of their marketing material? I hope so. It also looks identical to an HRV despite not being based on an HRV at all. Okay, click on this picture because I think it's the most heinous picture. Oof. Yeah. So this car is Ogo, obviously. So the Mission X was announced years ago, and it was an electric hyper car that they were going to make.
Starting point is 00:30:12 And no one wants it. But they was released, like, revealed like 10 years. It was a while ago. Well, so then obviously they're not going to, apparently they're not going to do it. Or maybe they are, maybe they're not. but we're going to do another hyper. We're very knowledgeable about the topic. Well, no, there's been nothing official.
Starting point is 00:30:26 But when CareerGT concept was shown, the real Career GT came out a couple years later and looked identical. So this thing got shown on people like, well, I guess this is coming. But because apparently there's not a lot of interest in these electric hypercars, maybe they're not. The point is, I was thinking about what would it take to get me into a Mission X? What would it have to be for me to actually buy it? Well, considering you didn't like the 918, I don't think you're going to get it. Okay, but that's my point. I did like the 9-11 ST.
Starting point is 00:30:49 So what would they have to do? So start with a manual. Manual transmission, unquestionably. Would you do an electric car if they did a manual? Not at that point. Absolutely not at that price point. I would love to have an electric daily and I really think I should. But at that price point, absolutely no chance.
Starting point is 00:31:04 If the 918 had a manual, would that have solved it? Would that be the car you'd want, basically? Maybe if it was really good. From the race car. With hybrid assistance from the race car with a manual transmission. Now, 918 is too expensive for me also. That's the other thing. So pricing.
Starting point is 00:31:21 I hate to tell you. I suspect this will be too expensive as well. Kenan, can you go to a nicer picture so we don't have to look at this? Dude, I'm telling you, that's what it looks like. He likes the ugly salamander picture.
Starting point is 00:31:29 Let me tell you what I think also. You want to talk appearance? Yeah. Look up the 904 living legend concept. This is going to change your mind. Portia 904 living legend concept. Okay. This is what it would have to look like.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Well, living. I think it'll probably just be. Legend. Okay. That. Looks on cool. It is an Excel. It does look like a 9-4?
Starting point is 00:31:53 Yeah. Okay, it's based on the Volkswagen and XL1, which was a very tiny. On 907 turbo wheel. It's from that era. Yeah. Oh, it is. But if they made it look like this with a manual and like a 600K price tag, count me in for mission.
Starting point is 00:32:08 You're aware that it's the length of a young child. You're missing the point. You're missing the point. I agree. It's based in the X-O-1, so it's actually a small electric car. But I'm telling you, it looks cool. It does look cool. If they made it look.
Starting point is 00:32:19 look like this, I would be interested. Interesting. Hmm. But that's about it. What engine would have? It's cool, right? It's really cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:26 It's very like Alpine A1. Yeah, it is very important. Yes, it is. It is. What engine would you accept? But it's like a longer tail, like an old Porsche race car kind of. Yeah, it's really cool. It's cool.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Why don't they build this? Why did they build this? Except not as a Volkswagen XL1. Right. Right. Right. Based it on something good. Take the design, make it bigger.
Starting point is 00:32:43 Because an XL1 is a tiny little bit. Make the design a little bigger. But scale up the proportions. Scale up the proportions. tossed in a NAV 10 from a race car like my career Gt has casual and a manual transmission how much does you pay I think I'd pay six or seven depends on production numbers but I pay how much was the care you team wow 440 because a lot of the a lot of the reason for this recall in my opinion is because they're trying to get people to be hand raisers for the next hyper
Starting point is 00:33:07 you think so it's not just to avoid more lawsuits there's that too okay um and so I'm thinking what would it take and the answer is that 904 living legend you'd pay 6600 depends on production. If they made a thousand. A thousand, I don't think they'd be able to justify doing it at 600 units. Or at $600,000. They would have to make $2,000, but I'm cool with that. I'm here.
Starting point is 00:33:31 All right. Porsche, if you're listening to that. I'll do it. Build it. If it has any sort of automatic transmitting or hybrid, I'm out. Kenan, tell us your talk cars moment of the week. Yes. So I, just recently, as of yesterday, the 13th of November,
Starting point is 00:33:47 I celebrated nine years I've owned my E39 M5. Thank you. In that time, I put just over, I put about 86,000 miles on. Wow. And it's still, I also made a video of, I watched it every year. I made a video for E39 source documenting the whole journey of flying down to get it and like driving it back to my friend, Ryan and Stephen. And I'm still just as excited now as I was when I bought the car. It looks even, it looks much better now than it did then.
Starting point is 00:34:13 A lot has changed with that car. It's been a lot of modifications. Yes, but on the topic of, but also, so I was on a date with this girl I've been saying, we went on town of this art installation. They had like one of these Zoltan things where it gives you like a fortune. And it gave me mine. And it said, you have not been wise with your money lately. It's important to reward yourself for your hard work. But a fool in his money will soon part.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Remember this the next time you receive itself of money. And I suspect it was referring to me. That is wise with your money. You needed those, you needed those fender liners. Oh, yes. For $12,000. I mean, obviously, it's not referring to that. That was a reasonable.
Starting point is 00:34:51 But, yeah, I realize, like, yeah, it is an investment in how much I love the car. And I am still just so thrilled to get in it every time. And a lot of people have been suggesting I get some daily. But to be honest with you, I just love driving the car. When I get in that car to do anything with us to go play tennis with you guys or to come here to work or to just drive on the highway for the sake of driving, just happy to be in the M5. And so nine years later, I'm just even more excited to drive the car now, I think, and what I was when I bought it.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Yeah. Have you owned any car for nine years? Not currently. Just ever. Yeah, I had that rangeover, that Carmex rangeover for like seven or something. Well, the Ford GTF had for like six and a half. I mean, I'm getting there on some of these. And I will.
Starting point is 00:35:30 You've never had a car for nine years. No, five is I've had the one more? It's pretty impressive for a car enthusiast. All my other car enthusiast friends are like degenerates who every two weeks want to buy another car. Right. Right. Well, and you once said in a Sunday. video that a lot of car enthusiasts wax lyrical about keeping a car forever. I'm not even
Starting point is 00:35:50 necessarily saying I'm going to do it with the M5, but it's going to happen. Well, yeah, it's interesting. I do agree. That's an interesting point. So many people are like, I'm going to keep my car forever and they never do. But you've never said that, but like are just sort of doing it because that's what you like. Yes. That's the way to do it, not be one of those Louies. I'm like, I want creeper forever. Then they sell it six weeks later. Montaier and Mac and I, both V39M5 guys, just driving around. And Malcolm Gladwell. True.
Starting point is 00:36:16 Who else? Dave Grohl. You know Malcolm Gladwell's daily driver? Acura. No. Acura ADX. No. Acura RDX.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Type S. It's not an accurate. It's not a what? It's not an accurate. I don't know what brand referring to. What is it? The Kia Carnival. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:36 But I love the car. And it's not going anywhere. E3 and 5. And everybody in the comments gets mad that Kenan brings up Ether95, two things about that. Number one, that goes back to what I said earlier about the annoyance. But number two, this is Kennan. This is who Kenan is. Well, I'm passionate about other cars. The thing is they cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. And it's like, to be honest, and you can't use them the way I want to use them. Like your point about the Ford GT is the reason
Starting point is 00:36:59 you love that is because you can take it and drive a place that you can't do it. They wouldn't dream of doing with the Kuntosh. And the career GT is worth over a million dollars. And so like, you can't. But the E3995, despite how much money I have into it, ultimately it's not that expensive of a car. It's extremely usable, very practical. Would I love, do I want other cars? Of course. I'll have other cars with it. But it's the rock upon which I built. I just love it. Right. That's fair. We're happy for you. Thanks. Thank you very much.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Okay. Our next topic is the market report, market report, market report not brought to you by Cars and Bids. It's brought to you by the Cars and Bids app, which is different from cars and bids. It's a part of Cars and Bids. You can download the app on the iOS App Store today. The iOS App Store. That's where you get it. You go to Cars and Bids on the iOS App Store, it's green. And then you can get notifications and push notifications and regular notifications and no notifications at all about your favorite vehicles when they list, sell, or are bought on cars and bids.
Starting point is 00:37:53 You can bid, you can comment, you can participate in our community, you can do all the fun things you love about cars and bids. Can you talk to Kenon directly? Sadly, not for free. But not for free. And we should put a pay to talk to Kenon. We should. Okay, market report.
Starting point is 00:38:07 Ken and I both want to talk about Z3M Coups. Yes. So recently we sold this particular one, which I thought was fascinating because it's kind of the one to have. So it's the clown shoe. It's an S-54. It had some modifications that admittedly it was a salvaged title in like 2002. So like that's not really relevant. That was salvaged head?
Starting point is 00:38:29 Yeah. It was a branded title in 2002. But it sold for 285. Now I did have miles on it, 63,000. But it's not crazy for one of these. But I mean, it just shows that these are coming down. You're calling 285 for salvaged-titled. Yeah, because these, yeah, because S-54 ones, the really nice ones were 100.
Starting point is 00:38:49 Like, they were very expensive for a while, and now they have, like, really settled. And S-52 ones are still a really good buy. Yeah, that was what I was going to talk about. Nick mentioned to us the other day just privately that he thinks these Z3M-coops are good deals. They really are. If you don't focus on the S-54 thing, the fact that you can get these cars, I mean, you drive this around. No one knows whether you have an S-52 or an S-54, first off, and second, they're It's just so cool.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Some of us know. Well, there are very little ways that Kenan knows how to tell one part. You, of course, know how to tell one of part. I don't. But they are such cool cars. They are such cool cars. And they're so distinctive. And I don't know if I would necessarily go as far as calling them iconic, but they are
Starting point is 00:39:25 distinctive and cool in a very special way. Well, it was a rare moment when BMW decided let's do something quirky. Yeah, let's do something weird. And also, it was an engineer pet project. The BMW didn't want to make a coup version of it. Engineers did it in their spare time famously. and we're able to make a case for it using parts from other cars. It's like the E30.4.
Starting point is 00:39:45 And they did it. And look at how cool that thing looks. Yeah. I think it's a really, really special car. And the fact that the S-52 ones are only 20 grand is like a total deal. S-52 is not a bad engine. No, S-52 is a great engine. It's not as exotic as the S-54 or the European version.
Starting point is 00:40:03 But it's more reliable. And good torque. And these cars are all old. I mean, I can't imagine an S-54 is even that fast by modern standards. And the car of this light, it's pretty quick. It's pretty fast. Yeah, I guess so. But even an S-52 is probably okay.
Starting point is 00:40:16 I mean, it's a fun car to drive around. It's cool, it's quirky, and it's not expensive. And they're certainly not losing value. Like two years ago, I went up to the Pacific Northwest where I did a trio of videos. I did. I reviewed an S-52 clown shoe, an E46M-3, or Acura, excuse me, NSX. Sorry, I didn't want to confuse you there. Of the three, like, when I analyzed price and driving experience, whatever, the shoe was the one I liked the most.
Starting point is 00:40:38 It just was a nice balance of everything. It's cool. And it's, it looks damn. It drives well and it is cool. People knock the Z3 because it's the Z3 and it's like the lesser. I think that's all a bunch of BS. And then the fact that it's a coupe and the M-cook, it's all cool. And I think that these cars are total bargains at their number.
Starting point is 00:40:54 They really are. With an S-52. And yes, S-54 has got absolutely crazy and maybe are seeing a little bit of a returner. I mean, they're coming down certainly really minty, minty, mitty. Drive it around this would be so cool. Look at that rear dish. On that rear wheel, man, that is just delicious. Hey, Kenon, before we move on.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Do you want to tell Doug how to tell apart? Because they're an SVV2-O-free 4. I mean, you can tell from right here. So for those who you don't know, this is classroom clown-chew time with Kennons. So one way from clown is the wheel finish. This is the only other M-car that got Chrome Shadow wheel finished, like the E-39-M-5.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Only two ones they ever did it with. So that's one way to instantly. Well, which one has it? Which one doesn't? So the S-52 does not. Just finish in hyper-silver. That's one. The other thing is the M-Batch changed significantly.
Starting point is 00:41:38 So this one is like the E-46M-3. which is a little bit more rounded looking. When you look at an S-52 car, it's like the E-36M3, which is a little, of course, I click on a car that doesn't have it. Let's see, this one has it. You can see it's much more flat looking. Wait, go back to the other one? Significant.
Starting point is 00:41:58 Significant is the word I would use for sure. Look, Philippo, this is a brand that values subtlety. Go to it. All right. So see how that one is kind of more rounded? the other one? Much more flat. So completely different.
Starting point is 00:42:12 Now those are both pretty changeable things. There are changes in the pad. You could confuse everybody. Inside as well, there are changes too. So you can see here. So, yeah. So the gauge cluster on the S52 cars
Starting point is 00:42:25 is black on the S54 cars. It's gray. Okay. Changeable also. A little more difficult because it also applies down here. He laughed, but I'm going to pull this out at Carson Coffee
Starting point is 00:42:34 next time. This is the guy who knows the difference between the Acura trims currently, like on every sub. model. I mean, yeah, exactly. What you want, right?
Starting point is 00:42:42 You want to give me a guff here. Wait, so is that all? Uh, you start it. It sounds different, but the badges also apply to the hood. The badges apply to the sides too. That's another thing that changed. I mean, they're really subtle ways to tell, but yeah,
Starting point is 00:42:58 that's largely how you tell the difference. Yeah, that's it. I think you for that lesson. Um, okay. We are, actually, I want to do the last market report thing that I wanted to talk about,
Starting point is 00:43:08 which is the Evo. pull up the Evo. Let's just talk about it. Let's just get it out in the open. Let's just get it out in the open. Let's just get it out in the open. This is the coolest thing that's ever been sold in cars and goods. Well, we sold that first-gen-H-RV. Dude, I, when I was a kid, I was 50, a car came out when I turned 15, 16. And at the time, it was the coolest thing that we were. We were all playing Grand Tourismo. And we had all wanted Nissan to bring us the WRX and Mitsubu should bring us the Evo. Nissan never did bring us the GTR. They brought us the new GTR, but we never got the skyline that we played in Grand. And Subaru redesigned the impresident and brought us to W.RX. But Mitsubishi just was like, all right. And after the Evo 6, they gave us the Evo 7, or they gave us the Evo 8, which was quite similar. It was just sort of like the car we all played. It even had a rear wiper like Japanese market sedans do. And U.S. market sedans never do.
Starting point is 00:43:57 And immediately when the cars started to get sold here, people started to modify them and crash them. And you just don't see nice ones. And this one is a nice one, and I want it. It is nice. I don't think it has very limited. Powder-coded brake calipers and an alpine head unit. That's it. That's it.
Starting point is 00:44:15 Yeah. Yeah. That's it. Rare, rare. Where, that's the situation. No evil anymore.
Starting point is 00:44:21 First-gen. How many do you think exist like this stuff? I mean, especially in a cool color. Yeah. Especially in a... This is one of those cars where you go, hey, is it modded? No.
Starting point is 00:44:28 It's only got an exhaust, a tune. It's lowered and it's the wheels and a built motor. Which is not really, compared to my buddies is... Just bolt-ons. Just bolt-ons. I think this car is so cool And I just remember my childhood How desperately I wondered one of these
Starting point is 00:44:44 We all played these video games These were the coolest cars you could find Agreed games And here it is in real life 20 years later Blue by you Blue by you That's right
Starting point is 00:44:55 It is cool It's nice to see one of these preserved Yeah It just doesn't happen Not even window tent Yeah No I know It's just totally totally OE
Starting point is 00:45:04 Okay next up Time to move on to the questions questions, questions, questions. Now remember, you can submit your own questions. Go to cars and bins.com, click on the community tab, and there will be a post that says, submit us questions, and then you can submit them, and we will answer them on the podcast.
Starting point is 00:45:19 No matter how students. Okay. First question from Q Sal. A lot of these are for you today, Kenan. Oh, okay. Hi, Doug, and the other two, I suppose. This isn't one of them. What are your thoughts about clear taillights?
Starting point is 00:45:30 For example, the 2014 Porsche DT3 came with factory option clear taillights, and I think it's a great look. I drive a Toyota to Sienna, which had clear taillates, It sure did. But only the SE. It's been able to. The answer is they're fine. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Okay. Next week. Wait. I've got an opinion on that. I actually kind of agreed that on the Sienna. It works. It worked on some cars. The 997 GTS has clear taillights.
Starting point is 00:45:52 If it's been released, I hate them. I think it looks horrible. So the 997 clear tails, the problem with those was part of them were still red. Yeah. Because there were regulatory components that had to be red. I actually do hate them on all. These are the 991 clear tails. And I go to the 997 clear tails.
Starting point is 00:46:04 This will change your life. But it's not. Take out G23. Just 9 and 7 clear tails. OE, because the non-OE ones aren't. These are not OE. Where are the OE? That was the clear tail for the 997.
Starting point is 00:46:15 It looks. It's wearing eyeliner. It looks so bad. It was the best they could do at the time. It wasn't good. No. I thought it was GTS only. It was this actually, now that I look at it,
Starting point is 00:46:26 I don't know if it's the exact OE clear tail, but it was very similar. That in spirit. And no one got them because it was just so not clear. Yep. Anyway. Anyway. No, you could get a,
Starting point is 00:46:37 on other ones, but very few people did. I don't mind them on the right cars. I has 300 of course wore at best. Of course. Oh, no. First Gen. Of course. Second Gen.
Starting point is 00:46:44 RX. Every RX? Every, the first two generations of RX were clear. It was six RX 330. Yeah. Larger cars seem to pull it off better than sports cars. I think it works on some cars. It doesn't work on other cars.
Starting point is 00:46:55 And I think almost no car that has been modified to add it. Does it look good? True. It was available. I know this is very Ether9. It was available on the E339. Like these are factory, believe it or not, these are factory. What?
Starting point is 00:47:06 these are factory. Yeah, those are factory hella tail lights. That is tragic. Bad. Well, that's Hane. Okay. Deep pain. Next question.
Starting point is 00:47:14 Aidan Kelly 666. Question for Doug an honored guest. I was once kicked out of an air-cooled Porsche group on Facebook during COVID for asking if they think prices would go down because there are a million of them and they are slow. Question, what is the fastest or funniest way to make a Porsche purist angry? That kind of thing. I mean, I think that the people, the production numbers is really my thing about those cars. They're really not rare.
Starting point is 00:47:35 They're cool. Yeah, and they are slow. Yeah. They're not quick. I just don't get into the pedantry of the portion of people, and so I... I'm sorry, what? The pedantry. Pedantry, okay.
Starting point is 00:47:46 I thought you just massively misfriend of pedigree. I thought you were going to say pageantry. The people are so pedantic about so many little things that I just can't bring myself to care about. I think that's another good one. If someone's showing you a nine... Oh, yeah, well, calling a PDAK car a tip. We like to do that. That really upsets them.
Starting point is 00:48:03 But also, like, if they're showing you their car and they're talking about... how they have deviated stitching on their map, like around their map lights and you just go, do you ever drive the car? Here's a reality. Okay, I have a Porsche and I go to cars and coffee and I'll go to car events, right? And people,
Starting point is 00:48:17 because it's me, I can't be mean ever to people, right, to their cars. Right. So when people show me their cars, I always have been like, oh, yeah,
Starting point is 00:48:24 that's the coolest thing we've seen. And most of the time they are cool. Yeah. But sometimes I'll get a Porsche dude who thinks that I'm a Porsche dude. And he'll be like, you got to come over here and take a look at this because this is the only one they made with a sunroof and the only one they made with this stitching and the old.
Starting point is 00:48:38 And that's when you point in the canon. Yeah. I'm like, you got to talk to my friend Sam over here. Sam. Yeah. Send them to Sam. I just like,
Starting point is 00:48:47 I get into cars for their overall driving experience and the way they are and the way they feel and the way, et cetera. And I don't get into cars like the little, the little tiny like the stitching is different kind of stuff. I get that. I understand those people are there. It's cool.
Starting point is 00:49:03 It's their thing. It's not my thing. Right. And so like that's, don't really gel with the Porsche community in that way. They're rich Corvette people of face it. It's like that's where you kind of get to. Right.
Starting point is 00:49:13 It's just like fit it. Yeah. No, I agree. Like ultimately, it's infuriating to me to see a car that is designed for driving, GT3, the ultimate driver's car. And it's only driven to cars and coffee and back.
Starting point is 00:49:23 But like, oh, I put PPP on it. And then I got the Porsche design watch to match. And it's like, and 80% of the threads on the Red List are, what spec should I get? Nice spec. All they want I talk about is,
Starting point is 00:49:32 beautiful spec. And it's like, don't any of you care about like the driving enjoyment of the vehicle at once i got the sports seats because they're better for reset well why don't you get the seats that are better for your driving experience not making this up i once read of a i wish i could find it i once read a um a a renlist like thread about which dealer had like the nicest coffee offerings like for that they're in their service department like within like northeastern oh i'm you're focused you're focused sing on the wrong thing.
Starting point is 00:50:05 It was hard to read. And the comments were as a greatest as you would expect. It's just, I will use a French press. I go on the rent list and I, it's just hard, it's hard.
Starting point is 00:50:15 The supercar section where we talk query Gt, it's a little easier. But I go on some of those threads and I'm just like, I cannot believe people are having these conversations. And they've all been fooled into this paint to sample thing
Starting point is 00:50:26 even though the colors aren't actually to sample. They're just older colors that a million other people are getting also. The whole thing is just, I don't get into the, the pedantry. It's a bit much.
Starting point is 00:50:36 Drive the car. Drive the car. You know, I do, I do take pride in the fact that the career GT is like Porsche God, even though they were all like silver with no options. That's like my favorite things. Okay, next question from Paul Han-Rahan. Doug, if you had to completely replace your current car collection
Starting point is 00:50:53 with budget economy cars, which one would you pick? Philippe, you take this one. Okay, your car collection, but they all have to be same like genre of cars. I don't know. You can choose. your family car would be a Highlander hybrid which is not really a budget economy car but if you buy a four year old one
Starting point is 00:51:07 there was a period of time fun fact for long term Doug followers where Doug loves the high high pull up like the which one did I like the 12 yeah like 14 there was a refresh I
Starting point is 00:51:20 I hated the 08 to 121 yeah everybody does it's this one but it's I like the pre-refresh which is actually this one these are all pre-refresh I think that that is one of the more beautiful like normal cars that has ever existed.
Starting point is 00:51:32 Yeah. It's, yeah. But budget of economy cars, what would Doug buy? Doug would just buy any of them. Doesn't matter, which everyone's closest to his house.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Yeah. I don't have an enormous amount. Like, when I'm, it's funny because people often ask me stuff like this. Like, when I'm renting a car, I don't,
Starting point is 00:51:47 my friends would be like, I got the whatever, I got a whatever at the rental car agency today. I'm just like, I don't care. Like, I'm all set. You just throw,
Starting point is 00:51:54 I drive everything. It doesn't matter all that much to me. Yeah. A common way that Doug recommends that people buy cars is which dealer is closest your house. Which salesperson do you like better? Which color is better at the dealer? People come to me and they're like,
Starting point is 00:52:04 should I get a rev for, a CRV or a CX5? And it's like, well, first of all, the CX5 that you should not buy. You should buy the CX50 hybrid to be competitive. I just like, to me, like, none of it. You're not going to really notice that people are terrified of making a bad decision when it comes to buying a car. And it's like, you don't get it. It really, if you've gotten to that level, it doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:52:23 Now, someone came to me and said, I'm thinking about getting a Chrysler 200, then we have a problem. Then it's like, I got a stereo. Go look for a car. Think about it. So, yeah, the answer is, I don't know the answer really, but it wouldn't be stuff that I would really care all that much about. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Although I do think Filippo should get a Fiat multiple. That is a great card, but it's not really like a modern, quirky enthusiast car. Yet it's, I think that's exactly. I think it might be the quirkiest car of all the time. It looks like a plumpus. Sorry, sorry. Rather, it's not a budget economy card.
Starting point is 00:52:53 It is budget. It is a economy card. You're right. You're right. The answer? Doug would buy a field multiple. Okay. Next question from End underscore can. Hey guys, you've just been
Starting point is 00:53:03 given $500,000 which you must use to buy the following. A daily driver, a weekend cruiser, a track toy. What would your picks be? Do you think I'd need 500 grand? I need a 90. Close to 500 grand. Give him 23 grand. He's set. I'm good. One car to do at all.
Starting point is 00:53:17 The answer, of course, I'd have to think about it, actually. I need time to think of it. Can I get a 4GT in there? Yeah. Yeah, you could. Yeah, you could. Yeah, I mean, yeah. 4GT and a couple boring cars. 4GT and a newie-class wagon you get to
Starting point is 00:53:30 you have some money left over for a track toy yeah it's not a bad answer actually yeah 4GT for what 3 for like a high a mild one 300 I kind of solved the problem though right there those two I don't even need three what is yours
Starting point is 00:53:43 assuming I can't keep the 3995 I'll pull it out of contention for this but I know I can put it in you can have a daily for daily Oh okay well I can I but okay well yeah the nicest one which is 50 and then just keep mine Okay, call it 20.
Starting point is 00:53:58 I can get reimbursed for it. See, I've made myself a hole there. I think, but the 395 notwithstanding, because I want to pick up, just have some other stuff. Ferrari 550, I'd love to have 997.1 Gt3 for the track car. And then probably, no, probably, Moulson would be a killer. That is a, wait, that's better than mine.
Starting point is 00:54:18 I want to change mine now. All right. You can go back. 575 would be cool. I can get a 575 like 100, right? Yeah, for a tip. Yeah. Tip 575.
Starting point is 00:54:27 Mercy. That's pretty. Mercy's a good choice. Yeah. But what's that? Your track car? Well, they both be track cars. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:34 You drive the one when the other one is overheating at the track. Right. And then you're going to get eight laps between them. Yeah. But that's a lot. Like when you think about it, then you break for lunch. You know, every time I go to a track day, you only get like four laps total because the instructors like to hear themselves talk so much.
Starting point is 00:54:48 That that's, there's like a five hour day. And four and a half hours is the instructor being like, you got, remember when you're going to corner one. Mark case, it was Nick pointing it. He's like, talk to the cones. Be friends with the cones. That's who it was in that. Yeah, that particular one.
Starting point is 00:55:00 But the one more, you need a luxury car than I can. Oh, then the cheapest, the E-class wagon. You don't need to be cheapest. You got money left over. I'm going to what those kids are. I say, we're not thinking big enough. Mulsan is a good one. It's an interesting.
Starting point is 00:55:12 Mosaun is a good one. What would you get? I honestly don't know what I would choose. I guess any more close to the car. $500,000 is like this giant world. I never considered it. Yeah, that's, I live in California. I don't have any kids or anything.
Starting point is 00:55:24 It could have a Z8 is my daily. Sure. Okay, great. There's a hundred grand of your 500. That would be cool. Well, no, they're not 100. That's like 130 to 180 at least. Okay, $200 for a nice color.
Starting point is 00:55:35 Fine, 130. But, I mean, the 550 is almost 200. The GT3 is 1405. All right. There you go. You have three, two-door cars. Wait, what if I want a super-america? I like the most on a lot.
Starting point is 00:55:44 I don't keep the most on. I want a Super America. Can I get a Super America and a mercy? A $3.20. Let's call it. I can get a Super America for 200. $200? $220.
Starting point is 00:55:53 And a mercy for $180. So that's 400 I just spent and then a E-Class wagon. I got money left over, I'll give to you. But just so you know, your Super America top won't work. You won't work. What is yours? Have you ever come up with any? I never even considered anything.
Starting point is 00:56:07 Filippo doesn't do thought exercises, but also he would never get a daily driver, a weekend cruiser or a track toy road legal. Like, it's just not who he is at his heart. No, I would get one car. And it would be 45 grand. It would be any class wagon. Yep. Or a C7 Corvette.
Starting point is 00:56:20 You should get a new alterraine for this money. You can get a new alterraine for a fifth of that money. I know. No, but you, that, you won't. I think if I were $500,000 to spend, I would get a new altering, probably. Okay, next question from Kenny H. What are your all-time favorite and least favorite factory wheels ever fitted to a car? This one, I could go for decades.
Starting point is 00:56:37 Literally decades. Pull up the F512 M. Let's just start there. Let's start with the F512 and go from there. Filippo. I'm not familiar to be on. Oh, yeah. Take out wheels.
Starting point is 00:56:50 Just go to F512 M. Are those on those? These are too dark. These are too dark. We got to, I want to see that. I want to see the. Really want to see. Just remove the word wheels.
Starting point is 00:56:58 Felipe, these wheels will change. These are quite the wheels. So now, there's some debate on these wheels about whether they're the ugliest wheel or the most beautiful wheel. I think they're beautiful. The most people think they are the ugliest wheel ever created and put on a car. Kenan, where do you fall on this? I think they're really cool. I think it's the entire car that's hitting.
Starting point is 00:57:18 Any of the elements in isolation would probably be fine. Maybe they had lights aren't because the pop of headlights on the Testerosa were pretty cool. They were ridiculous. But they made, like, like, 550 if I had an F12M. It's like what a bad modifier, or a test for a test for us. It was, it was only a bad modifier world. All this was was to buy them time for one year to finish what they needed to finish with the 550. That was all this car was for, basically.
Starting point is 00:57:37 What, um, okay. The worst wheels of all time. I like this. Yeah. Pull up the 997 lobster clause. Oh, people are going to disagree with you there. They are and they're wrong. And this isn't even a thing that I can, that I will discuss.
Starting point is 00:57:51 This is the ugliest wheel ever manufactured in the entire. entire history of wheels. Pull up this picture. Why do these wheels have so many holes in them? They're a lot of varying shapes. Some are like
Starting point is 00:58:04 Porta Cresty. Some are obviously circular for the lugs. And then some are like... There are a lot of... I don't... Like, Honda logos on most. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:12 These wheels have 15 holes in them and then the hole for the lug and for the tire pressure sensor. These are the... The vowsdam. These are the ugliest wheels that have ever existed. These wheels are prized
Starting point is 00:58:22 in the Porsche community. Yeah. Oh, you got lobster. Clause. I think people just like saying it. We'll do what they're saying. Don't eat them like it's not sanitary. Okay.
Starting point is 00:58:31 Give us some of yours. I'm surprised you're not going for like an AMG deep dish situation. I like those, but I don't, I'm not obsessed. For some of my favorites, the, um, the, hold on, the Mercedes. SL 65, a AMG, like the, like the 2008 one, those wheels. Oh, yeah. Of course. Some of the best factory.
Starting point is 00:58:48 Of course, most of like they've been taking. Oh, yes. The gray with the silver. Oh, yeah. Interesting. People, people aftermarket this week. wheel and it's so wild. You know, F-355 had an all-time great wheel. Yeah, F-355 had an all-time great E39M5
Starting point is 00:59:00 has some of the all-time great wheels. Yeah, I mean, there are so many really good wheels. You know what a bad wheel is? That HRV wheel that I hate. Yeah, it is. It's the last gen. You don't carry 2012, 2012, 2018. No, the one that, when we were on the East Coast together and you showed me that Mercedes with those off wheels, what wheels are? Well, those are like new AMG wheels look like that. Yeah. But no, it's the newest HRV.
Starting point is 00:59:26 No, it's the last gen HRV. It's the 27. Type in 24 HRV. Really? I thought it was the one before. I'm looking at it right here. And then go down a little. That wheel.
Starting point is 00:59:37 This is one of the worst wheels I've ever seen in my entire life as a human being. That is right. They've silvered only parts of the outside. It looks like it's been curved. Looks like a starfish. Yeah, it doesn't look a starfish. Horrible. I thought you hated the HRV ones before this.
Starting point is 00:59:50 That were also two different colors. I also hate that RAV four. Remember that? You do you hate that rat four wheel. But that rev four is like the ugliest thing. Good luck finding a picture. I know. It was like a very specific trim for like one model year and no one bought it.
Starting point is 01:00:01 But those are bad. Go to like 2020. Canna? Give us some of your battery. Of course these, a lot of these are like BMW specific. But they're, let me see if I can find it. On the E65, there was a wheel. Hold on.
Starting point is 01:00:14 The seven series? Yes. Hold on. There was a bad E-65. There's a website that just like has all of the wheels. BMW. The BMW dot wheels, isn't it? Something like that.
Starting point is 01:00:24 There it is. Oh, wow. That's a good. But they, oh, no, okay. So there is. Let's look at this website.
Starting point is 01:00:33 Go down. When I wrote, this is a bad wheel. This is how you check whether it's. Oh, that's a great wheel. Those were like, those were the,
Starting point is 01:00:39 I'm here to fire your father. But no, there's some, there's some, these are the tiny. These were bad. They were on the E3. Yep.
Starting point is 01:00:46 Those three spokes are awesome. Just give him in all. These were bad. They were on the E-38. I thought it was impossible to make the E-38 look bad. Those wheels did it. Style 75s, those are them. Those wheels are really bad.
Starting point is 01:01:00 Wait, those were on the E-65, the 7th? Or E-53, excuse me. I never seen those wheels in my life. Yeah, these were on the E-38, style 76ers. This was an E-39 wheel? The style 70s, what is that? Must be for Eastern Europe, for Xer strength on bad roads. Oh, I wish there was a website like this just for all general car wheels.
Starting point is 01:01:17 There is a Mercedes equivalent. This was a great wheel. That style 87 on the on the 4.6 IS. Oh, yeah, I could do wheels for days. Yeah. That was the E-16. We all know in love. Yep.
Starting point is 01:01:26 And I remember these two, which were... Those were not good. Not... They did not last long. I don't even know if they made it past. Oh, you know what wheel I hate? You're on the BMW one sensor. Go down more.
Starting point is 01:01:36 The E... The six series, that one wheel with the little ovals on it, I hated dearly. Oh. Where is that oval? I know what you're talking about. Kenan, if I see it, though, I might... I'm going to scroll up to six... No, keep going to six series.
Starting point is 01:01:50 Let's see if we pulled up a little faster that way. Oh, it's so og. Where is it? Go, give me the wheel. I know you won't true. Oh, maybe they check it off because it's so ugly. They want people to see it. Two hundred people broke their screens.
Starting point is 01:02:00 You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Why is it? Oh, this. It's this. It's, yes. On the base, like, 645. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:07 The car was already ugly, and then they were like, we're going to turn it up a notch. You're going to complain? Try us now. Chris Bangle went, watch this. Yeah. Hey, okay. I want to do one more. Wait, I've been asked.
Starting point is 01:02:19 I've not been asked for my opinion. Okay, go. Sob 900. Three spokes. Three spokes. Wait, which gen? The OG 900, yeah. OG 900, three spokes.
Starting point is 01:02:30 The turbo. Yeah, those. Good wheels. Good wheels. Good wheels on that car. Worked on that car. Yeah, so cool. What are the bad ones?
Starting point is 01:02:38 I don't got none. Come on. There's some you don't like. There's none that come to mind. I don't think about wheels in that way. Really? Yeah. You just think all wheels are good?
Starting point is 01:02:45 Wheels are wheels. No, I don't think they're all good, but I don't, they don't harbor space in my mind. You know what wheel I also loved Mark 4? Turbo. Yeah. Oh, Super. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:55 Yeah. And people remove them and it's such a mistake. Finding a stock one. Try to find a picture of stock. It's impossible. Look at those wheels. Those chromies. I wouldn't do the chromies, but I would do it.
Starting point is 01:03:09 They're not there. But I get why you like them. They're so nice. Okay. Last question. Last question. Last question. The precision driver asks,
Starting point is 01:03:18 Hey, Doug. Are there any plans to expand cars and bids into countries such as the UK and Ireland in the future? not at this time. Not at this time. We are in Canada. We are in Canada. Part of the UK or not.
Starting point is 01:03:30 That's a great point. I've never quite understood it. They do look up to the Queen. You know, people got mad at me last week. I'm sorry for this sidebar, especially at the very end, but people got mad at me last week for saying that Bugatti's factory in Mulsheim is sort of in France and sort of in Germany. They're like, this in France. Bugatti, when it was founded, was founded in Germany. And then there was some wars and one thing led to another.
Starting point is 01:03:52 and France got the territory back. But Bugatti, we believe, is a German company, except for the time when it was an Italian company. Interesting. And it's owned by the Germans again. And look, who has it? You couldn't even say that it's not a German company now. Like, they are only in France by location.
Starting point is 01:04:09 Like, they are German in every sense of the word. Well, they are own. Volkswagen is like the Germanist German, and they're the Germanist Germans of the Germans. And it was this example. It gave the Germans the ability to be Germans to the max. If you're playing the German drinking game at home, you're having a great time.
Starting point is 01:04:25 We're talking about the globe. I would like to talk about one other thing. One of the shirts, the shirt that you are wearing, has a logo that looks strikingly like the geo logo. Geo is a great company. And I want that. You know what's on the back of this shirt? Can I even?
Starting point is 01:04:37 You know what's on the back of the shirt? Oh, God. I'm not going to over stuff. Oh my God. He's a disaster. The G500. Austrian built. It's great.
Starting point is 01:04:46 I buy it my merch. That's it. We're done. Thank you for watching our podcast. It was our second best one ever after last. weeks. Goodbye, everyone. Goodbye.
