And welcome to this car pod.
I'm Nick.
I'm Ryan.
And there's a lot to talk about, starting with the news,
and specifically the new BMW 3 series.
BMW has revealed the next generation 273 series based on the Noia Class,
which was that concept car that they showed us a couple of years ago.
Noia class.
Now they're here.
They're real.
The new three series is coming out.
There's a turbo four cylinder, 255 horsepower,
there's a 430 horse turbo straight 6.
It's like a three series that we all know and love.
There's a drift mode.
It's actually not, on paper,
it's not tremendously different than the existing car,
but it does look a lot different than the existing car.
Nick, your thoughts?
I like it.
We talked about the styling a few weeks ago
and how it has maybe a little bit of a Trans-Am vibe in the beginning,
but the three series has always taken some bolder takes, you know?
Like each redesign, everyone reacts really strongly.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe it looks like that.
And then we normalize it.
And then by the end of the cycle, we're like, man, that looks good.
I'll say the only part of it that I'm struggling with a little bit is the rear end.
Rear's a little weird.
But I think that'll also be like the bangle butts.
Like we kind of get used to that.
I think sedans are kind of a boring space, so you've got to do something to make it interesting.
Yeah, I think that's true.
Yeah.
And I think the three series especially, like, they've refined the car so much over the years.
there's not a lot of ways to go.
I mean, they're making a 440 horsepower,
straight six re-wheel drive with a drift mode.
You're not going to make a 600 horsepower.
You know, you have an electric version to do that kind of stuff.
Like, you've got to do something that, like, flashes a little bit,
like the new X-3.
And Lord knows they couldn't have made the grills any bigger.
So they had to kind of, like, shrink them down and start all over.
You know, it's like, all right, the next gen,
I bet those grills get a little bigger and a little bigger,
then all of a sudden they're the whole front end,
and then they restart.
They also announced more details about the new electric version,
which is called the I3, which to me seems very appealing.
I actually like the look of the I3 a little bit more
than I like the look of the regular car.
The I3 is a little bit more futuristic.
It's a little bit different.
To me, it actually looks a little bit more athletic.
I'm surprised you can tell them apart.
The side you can really tell.
You can see there's sort of a, there's like a lower component here
that like the I3 just seems a little smaller,
a little snugger, a little bit more spry.
Yep.
This car in order to fit an engine and a drive line and all that.
They weren't able to do it quite.
I think the I-3 looks really cool.
I think the I three looks better.
I think the gas for one, too.
And so many brands now have had a separate sedan
that's like a totally different styling and name.
Like, I like that this is, like,
you really, most people will not be able to tell them apart
versus like, oh, I have to have a Model 3
or something that's distinctly EV.
Like, you can kind of have your cake or eat it too
regardless of whether you want gas or EV.
And bad naming, we're going to get to Volkswagen in a minute,
but bad naming continues to fall all over the EV space,
but I agree not here.
There's a three series.
there's an I3, they're relatively similar, you pick your poison.
The I3 that's going to debut initially is going to have an all-wheel drive, 465 horsepower,
give or take.
So there's a three-series, there's an I-3 you can pick.
BMW is saying 470 miles on a single charge.
That would be in the European driving cycle, which is different from the U.S.
The U.S. is going to be a lot less, but it's still going to be probably pretty significant.
If they can beat 350 or 375 miles on a charge in the U.S. cycle, that would be unbelievable.
Yep.
It means BMW has really kind of cracked the code on EVs.
the IX3 also being tremendously appealing.
They kind of have to because the Tesla gets all that range for so much less money
and they want to make a better car.
Obviously, build quality is better.
It looks a lot better.
It is kind of funny that there's the Model 3 and the 3 series,
and they're both in the same segment, and now we'll have EV-only options.
Well, and now there's finally like a real answer to that,
because BMW would add hybrid 3-series before.
There had been half-hearted attempts at Electric 3-series.
Now there's like a real dedicated model with real, like, a whole development behind it
that I think's gonna be pretty appealing.
I am curious in my somewhat affluent,
somewhat left-leaning neighborhood,
if all the folks with the,
I bought this before Elon went crazy, Model 3s,
are suddenly driving these.
Maybe, I mean, won't they switch to SUVs?
The I-X-3 is also tremendously appealing,
the new electric version.
Well, you know, if those people wanted something
other than a Model 3,
they would just get the current I-4.
In my garage at home in San Diego,
there's seven I-4s in that same row of charging.
My couple Model 3 is, a couple Model-Wis,
but majority I-4 is because everybody took advantage of that lease deal.
Yep.
I-4 is also a very appealing car.
I think it looks nice.
I think it doesn't look like over-the-top stupid EV.
It's like very appealing.
And I think that's honestly similar to what they've done here.
Obviously, a new three-series redesign in general is a huge deal.
Do you remember when E90 came out?
Yep.
Oh, yeah.
Unbelievable controversy.
Yeah.
And now it's like desiring.
And I was on that train.
Like, oh my gosh, are they like making fun of their customers?
It was, I will never forget how controversial that car was.
And now people like, the E90 was the best.
Oh, the E90.
And I'm totally, I'm on that train too.
I love the E90 now.
I'm so into it.
After all these years, I never warmed up to it.
Really?
Yes.
I never, the M3 is all look good.
Yeah.
I never warmed up to the regular 890.
It's like a blue Ford GT. 05.
Yeah.
It's like hard to warm up to it.
You just never really get there.
No, go to Cars and Bids.
We sell these things.
Go to Cars and Bids.com.
E90.
There's a lot of M3s.
They look good.
The LCI cars look okay, too.
Type in 2006 E90.
Like when it first hit.
Like, this was the very start.
Remember these wheels?
It's just this car never grew on me.
I don't know.
I think it looks great.
I think it looks great now.
But I agree.
At the time, I had my pitchfork out.
People were so mad.
I was among them.
I thought that was truly heinous.
Come on.
335D.
What else do you need?
What else do you need?
Well, they were all tipped.
But I do think this new redesign, the new you classé, as you would say.
That's not what I would say.
Other than maybe the rear end.
Oh, yeah, right?
And not Class A, but, you know, I don't think anyone's going to take.
There's no pitchforks coming out for this.
I agree that you can critique it.
You can say, okay, it's not my gem.
But, like, it is not quite as offensive as, like, some of the changes they've made in the past.
Also, I think that people, even the pitchfort people have realized that,
like with sedans, you're lucky you have this car.
You're like, this car is still on sale.
BMW could have been like, we're going to make an 11th SUV.
We're done.
Peace.
But like they're still doing a rear-wheel drive with drift mode, straight 6-3 series.
It's pretty cool.
You know why I think the E90 was so jarring, though,
was that the E-46 is one of the most beautiful sedans,
classically beautiful.
But it looks old.
Every time a manufacturer comes out with a new design philosophy for their lineup,
they always get pushed back.
You look at the...
Speaking of offensive, the cyber truck,
the mindset behind it,
was this is what cars should look like,
or we thought they would look like in 2030,
or 1950 or 1960,
and they went way too far off the spectrum,
but they're basically modernizing the BMW
for the next 15, 20 years.
Indeed, and the E90 was that.
It was Chris Bangle,
and it was the beginning of that whole thing.
All right, what's our next news story?
This is a big one.
Our next one is a fire.
Nick, I want to hear your thoughts on this,
since you are the owner of a fire-damaged Mercedes sports car.
Yeah, you know, they do that.
I'm guessing, like mine, the owner had tried to jumpstart it
and threw a little too much voltage at it.
No, it was at the Nureberg ring.
They were doing testing and obviously trying to keep a low profile here with the camouflage.
And the thing, it caught on fire in the rear wheel area.
No news sources have been able to confirm.
Was it the brakes overheating?
Was it a...
No.
If you look at the...
There's like a progression of photos of the side of this car on track, which first off,
it only did a mile and a half on track, which is not a lot.
But side eggs get exhaust.
It's definitely in front of the rear wheel.
My theory, don't quote me on this,
is that the camouflage wrap
maybe got a little too close to the exhaust.
I can't think of anything else.
It was a pretty gnarly fire.
It's not just like a little syng
and they had to do that.
Like dudes came out with like real fire extinguishers
and the flames were getting pretty big.
They apparently drove it back to,
apparently Mercedes-Benz and maybe the other manufacturers
have like buildings within, you know,
and like the hillside
between, you know, inside the Nureberg ring.
And they drove it all the way back there on fire
because the last thing they want is, you know, the whole point is they're doing testing,
but the car's camouflaged.
They don't really want it to get out there.
And of course, it's very embarrassing.
Although it's headed at being like a Barber Streisand effect where now all we can do is talk about it catching on fire versus otherwise testing at the ring would have been a non-story.
I do have to say, I am tremendously excited for this car.
Yep.
The current, the AMGGGT current one is a little bit of a letdown.
I think everybody agrees that.
They merged it with the SL.
It is not the sports car that the previous one.
was, you disagree with this?
I see your point, however.
I think they priced it in a way
that was like pretty fair
and gives you like a great value.
I think it looks good.
Like I think they were no longer trying to create
like a halo car.
They were trying to create like the first gen R8,
like an attainable everyday supercar
rather than a like flat out
10 tenths crazy hypercar.
I mean, look, I can see your point in that it's watered down.
Like we got the SLR, then each step down,
the SLS.
G G G G GT, GT Pro.
And now we're at the lowest of low because it's my problem with it is it's been merged with
the SL.
It's the SL Coupe.
And the SL is this convertible.
They're the same car.
They're literally the same car.
It's a convertible.
So like, you know, this was a super, but I mentioned I'm excited for this one because
the previous gen AMGGGT Black Series was an insane car.
Just like unbelievably.
And that's what I love.
Black Series isn't just like they turn the knob up 10%.
Right.
They go crazy.
And Mercedes doesn't really have a great sense of.
humor or like a huge imagination generally speaking they play it pretty safe and then black series is just
like man they're doing some crazy stuff back there and remember the previous body set the lap record
for a production car at the nerberg ring and it may still have that i don't remember maybe zr1x
has it now i care i don't know but it's up there it was like one of the very fastest cars ever to go
around and this one will be too once they put the fire out remember the sl 65 black series yeah
that thing looked like like it made the cars at semo look kind of mild and remember that i was there yeah
Mass of wide body.
It had a roof.
Do you remember that?
The regular SL didn't have a roof,
and then they made a black series with a roof.
You got to have a roof.
To make a performance car, one were argued.
You know, there wasn't an SLK black series.
Yeah, roofless.
Pretty rare.
Actually, that may have also been a coop.
I don't remember.
It wasn't sold in the stuff.
I think the real news story here,
I mean, cars catch on fire.
It's no big deal.
It doesn't affect the value at all.
When you're operating in this space,
things happen.
However, we're going to get another black series
based on that wing
and that rear diffuser alone,
it's going to be hot, pun intended,
and we're here for it.
Nick, are you,
you ever think about doing a Black Series collection?
I don't think I have the funds.
Black Series bring big money, man.
Yeah, I think that, like,
a million bucks would buy you all of them.
I don't have.
Maybe even half a million.
I did pay off my credit card last month,
which I'm very proud of.
I was only three days late on it,
but I'm a little far's off from collecting them all.
I will say the CLK-63 Black Series
is still a phenomenal value,
and I would absolutely put my butt in that seat.
Many years ago,
many years ago, Nick bought a car,
I don't remember what,
and he borrowed against his portfolio of equities
to buy the car.
As you do.
It was a great move at the time,
the interest rates were low.
But Nick being Nick,
he was terrified of this decision.
And even though we had all reasoned with him
that it was the right way to do it,
one night in the middle of the night,
in a panic,
he paid off the entire floor.
At 3 a.m.
Because he couldn't see.
Well, it was an adjustable.
rate. I would have had to do it anyways. I just, you know, my religion, we don't believe in debt.
And I had to pay it off. Bar me against equities. It wasn't, it wasn't the right to take
advantage of these banks in their generous terms. And I felt like I had to help out big capitalism.
And you did. Thank God for that. But for real, though, Black Series and Mercedes. As a Mercedes
podcast, we're stoked on this one. We wish them well in the recovery from the fire. I think they will
rebuilt. What Mercedes would you get if you had to get a Mercedes, Ryan Lopez? I'll tell you what I wouldn't get,
and it's the new EV thing, because I saw one last night in Little Italy with all the grill lit up
and the weird taillights. What? You saw one of those? It was on sale. I saw it last night. I swear
to God. I swear to God, I saw one of those new things. Did you maybe see a picture of one? No, I was there.
I was walking across the street to Slice House, and I saw it, and I was like, that is horrible.
Did you maybe dream it? Did you maybe dream it? Did you maybe?
possibly dream it? The fact that he was going to Slice House, that detail tells me he's not making
this up. It was not an EQS. I swear to God it was not an EQS. You know what? You know what,
Ryan? I'm, I certainly, you're right. It's definitely true. It certainly happened. You know what?
I think, uh, I think, you know, the Mercedes headquarters is just down the street as in 3,000
miles to the east. Yeah. It might have been one of those guys. It was one of the, it was one of
it was 100% the new one. I saw the tail eyes. I wish I took a photo because being right on this
podcast would mean more to me. You know what?
anything. I'll tell you that. I swear to God, I can call up
my date last night and I can say, hey, the smoke show.
Would you remember that weird car? It's funny. I saw, yesterday I saw a McLarenf1
on the street and from my house. Didn't get a picture. I was walking to
Papa Leco to get a, what is the car? A burqa toast.
And I saw actually the Sultan of Brunei's personal Bentley Dominator.
Sultan was actually driving the car. He,
Now you're just, now you're just Googling it to, like, show yourself what it is.
You know, you can't.
This was the car.
A thousand percent.
It was a GLA.
A million percent.
Okay.
I don't think that that's what we all thought you were talking about.
Okay, okay.
All I said was weird, evy-looking Sananth.
But you agree we thought he was talking about that fish-looking one that's like a $500.
The controversial prototype, yeah.
No, no, not.
Okay, so you saw, you saw a mid-level rental card.
You know what, Ryan, that's amazing.
That is, and you know what, the McClure-and-F one I saw.
You thought I meant.
Of course.
In the clear enough, when I saw, I take it back, it was actually a 650S.
Yeah, and mine was a P38.
To answer your question, any Mercedes, I would do a 500E.
Really?
Yeah, I think they're super cool.
The collab with Porsche.
You wouldn't if you drove one.
Yeah, don't meet your heroes.
You rather enjoyed my E55 when you and I went to Wagon Fest, too.
Yeah, it was fine.
I could see you in one.
Yeah, maybe in like 30 years.
Yeah, you're going to have a lot of children one time.
Hopefully only a handful of them.
This episode is brought to you by Nokia and Tires
and the all-new Hakapolita Zero One.
Quick history, Nokia and Tires is the Finnish company
that invented the winter tire in 1934,
and the Hakapolita line has been around since 1936.
It turns 90 this year.
Nokia and I go back a ways, too.
When I was just getting started on YouTube,
they put a set of Hakopalitas on an Aston Martin I had,
and I drove it up to Vermont and drifted it across a frozen lake.
So the Zero One is the newest chapter in a long story,
a revolutionary studded winter tire,
with what Nokia calls on-demand grip.
The studs respond automatically to the conditions.
On ice and snow, you get strong studded grip for traction and control,
but when the road goes dry, the studs retreat farther into the tread for smoother, quieter contact.
You don't push a button or pick a setting, the tires construction handles it.
That's where the name comes from. It's binary.
Zero is stud mode off, one is stud mode on.
It's built for passenger cars, crossovers, and SUVs, because winter isn't one-concrums.
condition and your grip shouldn't act like it is. Learn more at nokiontyers.com
slash Doug. I am incredibly excited to announce that cars and bids is officially
partnering with STEC. If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with the details of the
cars we list and that includes keeping them protected with the best products
available. I actually trust STEC for my own garage. My Porsche Carrera GT is
currently having its old paint protection film updated with STEC PPP from the professionals at
Elite Finish, a black label installer here in San Diego.
The difference in quality is massive.
Their Dino Shield technology is remarkably clear, and it features self-healing properties
that keep the car looking fresh even after a long drive.
They also offer fashion films that allow you to change your car's color or add a carbon-fiber
look without sacrificing protection.
To celebrate this partnership, we have two big deals for you.
First, if you submit a car to cars and bids with proof of a certified steck insula,
will give you 50% off your professional auction photos.
On top of that, STEC is giving our community 10% off a film install
with any authorized retailer.
Just head over to steck-usa.com slash cars and bids
to find a shop near you and mention code cars and bids when you connect with them.
I'm thrilled to bring this to you guys,
and I can't wait to see those protected cars hitting the auction block.
Next news story, please.
Next news story is a big one.
fuel economy rollback.
There's the kind of story that Felipe would have sunk his teeth into.
So the fuel economy standards under Biden had automakers needing to get to a corporate average of 50 miles per gallon by 2031, 50.4.
That's a significant number.
The Trump administration has been rolled back to 34.9 miles per gallon by 2031, which generally speaking is,
already had been achieved. Not quite, but they're really, really, really close. Apparently,
last year or two years ago, they basically got there. The auto industry was within a half
point or a point. So it's going to happen. No problem. What do you think about the rolling
back of fuel efficiency? So, I mean, there's two arguments, right? So the more environmentally
minded would say, oh, this is terrible, global warming, like, you're rolling back, you know, the progress
we were making. The other side would say also justifying and looking at the more working class and
saying these were making cars more expensive because it was a punitive and difficult standard to hit.
And so therefore auto manufacturers had to spend a lot more to make them more compliant and add more things.
This is a difficult one for the liberals. The liberals are lose lose here. Either they've made the cars
too expensive and the working man can't afford them or they've destroyed the environment and made
the planet in hospital. The liberals, the party of both the environment and the working man is tough.
Now, thankfully, Ryan Lopez from Alabama, he only thinks one way.
That's right.
V-AIDS.
Yeah, I guess so.
Did you know that he's from Alabama?
Yeah, everybody knows.
Yeah, everybody knows.
Born and raised in the heart of Dixie.
In the heart of Dixie.
But Huntsville Alabama barely counts as Alabama.
There's more rocket scientists and PhDs per capita than pretty much anywhere in the country.
What are you implying about the rest of Alabama?
Oh, have you seen the movie Sweet Home Alabama?
No, the song.
Okay, okay.
Well, whenever I settled from Alabama, people would say, oh, and I would say, I don't really understand it.
Then I watched Sweet Home Alabama.
We can ignore all the civil rights stuff that happened in Alabama in the 60s.
But the movie, I think, being at the forefront of pop culture, popular movie, people have seen it.
And then I said, oh, this is why people think Alabama.
If it makes you feel any better, my hometown is named after Jerry Sandusky.
Oh, Sandusky, Ohio.
Yeah, it's not actually named after.
But it required some explanation for a while.
When I think of Alabama,
I think of green, verdant green fields.
Yeah.
And big old trees.
Yeah.
But I've spent time in Alabama.
I think of Roll Tide.
College football, baby.
Yep.
But no, I think...
Aren't you an Auburn man?
I am an Auburn man.
You just gave him...
You just, he said roll tides.
Because that's all they know.
If they don't know about Alabama, they say roll tide, you just have to give it to them.
We wake up and we think of Nick Sabin.
No, not we...
He doesn't...
He's an Auburn man.
You think of Nick Sabin.
I think of Camus.
He's a war-eagin.
Ooh, that's a cool name.
Okay, anyway, fuel economy's being thrown back.
What I don't understand and you maybe can mansplain to me,
how do EVs factor into the average?
They do.
They're technically like infinite, right?
So if you're doing an average with an infinite miles per gallon.
Not only do they factor into the average,
if you're an auto manufacturer and you can't meet the criteria,
you can purchase credits from other EV manufacturers.
Which I think is over now.
Which is over.
Because in theory they don't need it.
But if you have like one EV, shouldn't that give you like an infinite miles per gallon in their
for your average is whatever you want it to be?
No, because EVs have...
Evies have something called MPGE, this miles per gallon equivalent.
And I think that's how they do it,
because it says here the EPA defines a certain amount
of electricity usage as having the same energy content
as a certain amount of gallon of gasoline.
So that's how it's done, and I guess that must be how they factor it.
And the standard is it done across the entire portfolio of brands,
or does like Lamborghini have to hit it?
I don't remember, and it doesn't matter anymore, am I right?
V-8s.
Where are you on this?
As a man of political persuasions,
where are you on this?
You've got to go easy on him with that.
People walk up to him and they start talking to him about politics.
Yeah, I'm here for it.
I'm here for it.
I don't like labels, you know.
I think as someone who owns a plug-in hybrid,
then three cars that get about 10 miles per gallon on average otherwise.
But I like the plug-in component.
Okay.
So I don't know.
I don't, I get both sides of this one.
It's tricky. I think you don't want to force the change too quickly because the concern that it does drive up prices and get rid of cars that we love.
There's a line from the Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, our Lord and Xavier, of course, where he called the old standards an illegal mandate that forced automakers to build EVs.
Families didn't want that made the roads less safe.
I think that, as usual, the Trump administration's language there is a little bit best to me.
However, I don't disagree with his overall point.
EV sales, we all saw what happened to EV sales once the government stopped subsidizing them.
I'm not necessarily sure that stopping subsidizing EV sales was the right move,
but I do think that natural demand for EVs was not necessarily there,
and this efficiency mandate was going to be hard to meet,
given that people were not particularly excited about these cars in the first place.
An unpopular take for me would be I'm a bigger fan of putting a higher tax on gas
if you want to disincentivize gas vehicles.
Yeah.
It's a usage-based tax.
Right.
And you and I who want to drive her 8 mile per gallon V12's weekend to say, all right,
I'm going to pay an extra dollar a gallon because I want that thrill.
Then other people will then calculate and say, okay, an EV makes more sense because the cost of gas is too high.
What about the Great American Road Trip, though?
What about when we woke up in Auburn, Alabama, and we wanted to drive to Houston, Texas for the damn Houston.
The rodeo.
The rodeo.
Okay.
It's in March.
It's a week long.
It's a great time.
Okay.
I saw Blake Shelton there.
We did do this.
Oh, my God.
All of this happened.
But we couldn't do it in an EV, could we?
You could do it, but I will say I've done that drive with my father,
and we drove the Mississippi, and it was very sketchy,
and there was no gas stations,
and there sure as hell wasn't any EV chargers.
He's a guy from Alabama is calling Mississippi sketchy.
That's how you know Mississippi is sketchy.
I think it is the sketchy estate.
It was voted the sketchiest state.
Sketchy.
They were voted?
Highest crime.
Skechiest state.
Yeah.
Like, you're talking is it not Florida just by default?
Right.
There are Jupiter, Florida.
All the golfers live?
But, like, it's even the people who are not sketchy are sketchy.
Like, everybody in Florida has an angle.
You know what I mean?
Have you been to Orlando recently?
Yeah.
And everybody in Orlando has an angle.
Everybody in Orlando is currently getting away with something.
What about Tallahassee?
Maybe less so because there's, like, government there.
You got to assume some people are on the up and up,
although I no longer feel that way about government.
So I don't know.
The plate Gainesville is a nice...
Of course.
How could we forget Gainesville?
Gainesville.
You hate Gainesville because they were...
I'm more of a St. Augustine guy myself.
Yeah, there's an old, nice, old city with old buildings and stuff.
The Spanish fort.
Yeah.
Very nice.
We like that kind of stuff.
Nick, you know all about Florida.
Yeah.
And forts.
Nick texted us.
Nick went to Florida like a year ago.
He texted us.
He was like, I get why people move here.
I might move here.
Were you in Naples?
Yeah, we were in Naples.
Okay.
It all gets all coming together.
He's a mid-Westerner.
Of course, he goes to Naples.
He's like, I'm in Heaven.
Oh, my God.
It's funny.
My dad lives on the other coast in Stewart.
And then my mom lives in Naples.
and they both claim that their coast is better.
And they're like, oh, there's too many East Coasters on the East Coast.
We don't like that.
We like the Gulf Side better.
Well, that is true.
The Midwesterners who like a slower pace,
maybe things explain to them a bit more.
They prefer the Gulf Side.
And then the East Coasters prefer the East Coast.
They're getting hit with the Hurdle.
I just appreciate everyone wears their collegiate football guard.
And so you know exactly where they're from at all times.
Yep.
They wear it, it's on their cars.
It's funny that people in Florida,
they are so.
desperate to be proud of the roots of the place that they cannot stand anymore.
Yep.
They're all like, I would never go back to Buffalo, but I really love Buffalo.
Give us our next news story, please.
Speaking of a guy who went from New York to Florida.
Yeah.
The Volkswagen ID Tiguan, folks, Volkswagen has announced, and we are not excited about this.
I think I speak for us all.
Philippa would be excited about this.
I don't even know if Felipe would be.
The ID4 is going to be replaced by the ID Tiguan.
So Volkswagen is still decided that they're going to commit to putting ID in front of the name of the car to signify that it is electric.
So even though there's no longer ID3, 885, clearly they're going away from that.
They're going ID Tiguan.
So there's going to be a regular Tiguan, no ID required.
And there's going to be an ID Tiguan.
Well, I mean, BMW already took the little I, so they had to do something different.
Yeah.
I mean, they could have just not.
They could just call it the Tiguan or the Tiguan EV
Or name it something else
I mean Tiguan is a horrible name
They couldn't name anything else
What does Tiguan even mean?
It's the German word for tiger
Combined with the German word for iguana
Which is Leguan
Tiguan
Tiguan
Tiguan
Tiguan
Volkswagen's names are generally all horrible
I still can't spell Turek
And we owned one for three years
I still cannot spell the name
Tuareg
Is Tuareg?
Volkswagen had the Syracco.
You know, that was a...
Yeah, they've always been messing with it.
Whatever the hell that means.
This car, the electric Tiguan, will come to the United States.
And they say it shares nothing with the ID4,
although if you look at it, it shares at least one thing with the ID4,
which is that it's unattractive.
I don't think that's bad at all, although the...
All right, well, then it's...
It's blamed.
But don't you kind of...
I mean, Volkswagens are always a little bit, you know, boring,
other than the ID buzz, which, let's be honest,
didn't work out so well for.
The ID Buzz is my greatest sadness.
I know.
The ID Buzz is the best car on sale.
And no one wants it.
And even at heavily discounted rates, no one wants it.
They're down to 40s now, right?
You could buy one tomorrow for 37 if you really wanted to.
If you were willing to do some real legwork, you could buy one for 30s.
I guess the Nickin that I yelled at the salesman.
My wife and I have had some serious talks about them.
But they're, it's just, there's hard to find used ones with any kind of miles.
Like the most used one you can find is 9,000 miles.
They were all bought as not.
novelty cars.
Yeah.
Which is a shame because they're reasonably good family cars, and they are so cool.
What's funny is you can find ones too for like a hundred asking.
They have the pop-up top for the campers, which I think I'm super into, but not at 100.
Like a pop-up top in a car that goes 200 miles.
Yeah.
You pop that top.
You drive from San Diego to North County, San Diego.
You drive from Huntsville to Birmingham.
Yeah, over and a half, yeah, roughly.
That's all you get.
And you get to go to Buckees as well, because I said Buckees on the way.
You get to go to a Bucky.
Are you a Buckees, man?
No.
Have you been new Buckees?
Yeah, it's just, I don't understand it, it's too much.
When I'm on a road trip, this is what I don't understand about Buckees.
And I'm different from a lot of people about this.
Yeah, everybody loves Buckees.
When I'm on a road trip, I ain't like trying to go to a mall.
I'm trying to get there.
You know, two years ago, I drove from Manhattan to Oklahoma in a day with my dog, okay?
I'm not stopping at Buckees.
I'm trying to get to a place.
Were you alone with Noodle?
Yeah.
Okay, well, your kids would love Buckees.
Yeah.
But like, when are my kids going to be with me in rural Oklahoma, all right?
It ain't happening.
I'm not trying to go to Buckees on a road trip.
I'm trying to drive.
You don't want a brisk a sandwich mid-road trip?
No.
It's insane.
I want to get somewhere.
Buckees works perfectly in the kind of like mid-south because no one there is in a hurry.
Like in Oklahoma, Alabama, in West Tennessee, it's perfect.
Very different climates, very different.
But the type of people is the same.
No one is in a rush.
No one.
So they're driving along.
They got to get to Memphis by sundown.
They're like, hey, there's a Buckees.
Let's spend three hours walking the aisles.
I'm not ashamed to say.
I've been to probably 15 Buckees.
You're like a Buckees collector.
Yeah, I do have the fridge magnets.
And you know what?
I think that all the people here would agree you are also not in a rush.
No? I'm taking my time.
I'm doing it right.
Yeah.
Life is worth living one day at a time.
One Buckees at a time.
Anyway, tell you what you won't see it, Buckees is one of these.
Two interesting tidbits here before we move on to the next story.
It goes from ID.4 or dot four, right?
All one word, they're adding a space.
So it's ID dot space Tiguan, which is even dumber.
Because the buzz is the same way.
And then car and driver reports using this exact photo.
Well, we're told the first electric Tiguan will debut a completely new design,
which is camouflaged in the photos.
They felt it was important to clarify that this is indeed camels
Well, they don't want people thinking that this is,
that it's going to be available in this livery.
We all know they're going to be white.
Yes.
Anyway, there may be some other changes before it hits production, too.
I'm excited for this in the way that I'm excited for a new, new socks.
You know, I saw ID4s everywhere when they first came out.
Because they're free.
There was a free lease deal.
The guy down my street bought one for his teenage daughter when she turned 16.
And I think it's insane to get a teenager, a new car.
But then I was looking at the numbers and it was like, you know,
this is like 165 a month or something, nothing down.
It's not such a bad idea.
And if they wreck it, you're not going to be too upset.
And it's safe.
It's like a modern safe.
It's slow as hell.
The ID4 is incredibly slow.
So when you have kids, Ryan Lopez, consider that.
ID4.
Yeah.
No.
They're going to get civics.
They're going to get civics.
90-spoon engines.
EG civics, yeah.
Yeah.
Build character.
Yeah.
Nice.
Next slide, please.
Getting his kids civics.
Every AI guru out there swears by a different tool.
And every time I start a project, I end up asking,
wait,
Which one am I supposed to use for this?
Because they're all good at something different.
One's better at research, one's better at writing, one's better at spreadsheets,
and none of them actually finish the job.
Right now, I'm in the middle of planning Nikki Loub,
the number one place for enthusiast oil changes,
or maybe merch, or maybe something else.
I'm not really sure what we're going to do yet,
but I am developing that business plan as we speak,
and it's like five projects in a trench coat.
Market research, a competition, the numbers, the pitch,
I had four AI tabs open and none of them seemed to talk to each other.
That's why I'm obsessed with Perplexity Computer.
Computer runs all the leading AI models automatically,
picks the right one for each step, and handles the whole thing.
It researches a project, sized up the competition,
built the projections and kept going until I had an actual plan.
I'm not just managing AI tools anymore.
I'm building the business because I'm a businessman.
And for a limited time only,
our listeners can try Perplexity Computer for free,
which is the only plan in the Nicki Lou business model I can afford.
Head to PPLX.AI slash cars.
That's PPLX.A.S.C.A.S.C.
slash cars to try computer today.
Most AI tools are still answering questions,
while perplexity computer is completing full projects.
Range River Sport Electric has finally been announced.
They announced that they were going to do this,
and now they've announced that they have done it.
542 horsepower, just like the full size.
So it's the same power train
except in the scaled down vehicle.
Does this have some appeal to Nicky Lubb over here?
A Land Rover enthusiast?
I think they, again, much like the three series
and some of the other models we talked about,
I like when they don't change much.
They keep the gas version and the EV version.
They look largely the same.
In this case, they change so little,
like even the total horsepower is relatively the same.
Zero to six is about the same.
I think this will have a lower center of gravity
and might actually handle better, it'll have like a more instant torque curve.
You could argue that this, I mean, you'll have to drive them back to back,
but like, this will probably drive as nice as the gas one,
and you're simply just picking whichever one you like better
rather than having to make a compromise for one or the other.
The G-Wagon has shown us that what people like better is the gas one.
I'm shocked by that.
Even when given the opportunity to buy an electric one that performs the same or better,
it's obviously cheaper to own, cheaper to buy in the case of the G,
because they're heavily discounted.
People are still choosing the gas.
I'm still surprised.
by that, however, I think they were not wrong just early.
Like, I think as consumers continue to get warm up to EVs more and more,
that that will hit a tipping point and people will prefer the EVs.
That just hasn't happened yet.
330 miles of range.
I mean, it's an appealing car in that segment.
I don't personally understand why, if I'm a buyer of one of these, I wouldn't buy the EV one.
It's going to be way more available and heavily discounted.
No one takes these on road trips.
And you don't have to worry about blowing your head gaskets,
which in Land Rover World is everything.
I'm surprised that the Mercedes Chewagon EV is not doing.
so well because a luxury car, it's smooth, it's fast.
I think it's doing fine.
I just think that, you know, it's incentivized, and the regular one isn't.
And I think that if they could wind back the clock,
given that there's somewhat production constraint on that car,
I'm not sure that they would have committed to an EV instead of other body styles,
such as more cabriolets.
Am I right?
Those are coming soon, baby, supposedly.
A flatbed truck would be cool, like a steak bed.
Like a Unimog thing?
No, I don't know.
I would leave it up to them.
Made in conjunction with Stalantis here in the States, maybe?
Like the Land Rover?
Yeah.
One generation of those.
Hey, are you pumped for my wrinkler, 392?
No.
Okay.
Next slide, please.
Speaking of EVs, the Lexus TZ.
Now, this is an interesting one because there's some drama to this vehicle.
It doesn't look like there would be drama to this since it's an electric three-row Lexus SUV.
However, I was invited to go on the Highlander EV launch, which is the Toyota version,
which was supposed to be two months.
and like a week before the launch, we all got emails like,
we're canceling the launch, we're delaying the car.
And Clement Weather?
No, we'll get to that in a minute.
We're canceling the launch, we're delaying the car.
That was a big story, because they didn't say exactly what happened there.
This comes out, they've now announced the final pricing and range numbers for this,
and they had promised that the 450E version of this would have $402,000.
They have confirmed the production model will have 308 horsepower.
Now, that's a respectable number.
No one in the EV space is going to care about the difference between those two figures.
However, there is clearly something going on here that they are not able to develop this car like they had planned,
on the timeline they had planned, and with the capabilities they had promised.
And at the price they promised, because there will be a 400 horsepower variant, however you've got to pay up and get the next trim level up.
I wonder what's going on.
Regardless, $64,000, $6,000, three-row,
This is going to be a hit.
I have a suspicion.
This is going to sell to the same people
who are currently buying the TX,
which has been a reasonably successful car.
And the Grand Highlander,
it's just sort of a luxury version of that.
This is the kind of thing I would assume
would appeal to people like yourself.
Yeah.
I feel like with all EVs,
they kind of stretch when they announce,
like, it's going to have this much range.
It's going to have this much power.
Usually Toyota and Lexus,
especially by the time they have announced
a production car, have it buttoned down.
And it's unusual to see this level of change
come so late in a,
models like about to go on sales cycle.
Yeah. Given how long automotive development cycles take and how much time is spent on marketing
and developing brochures and, you know, all this stuff, like this car is bigger than this,
better than that. They have other websites set up. To then walk back horsepower within a few
months of launch is an interesting surprise. But the horsepower for me is not the main thing
with an EV, it's range. Yeah. And the premium is $64,000 and you get around 250 miles of
range, which is pitiful for an EV, especially at that price point. Uh, 253 miles per range is.
miles of range is a tough situation there, isn't it?
It's a lot of money for not.
What do they say?
We said, not a lot of money, not a lot of torque or something like that.
This is not a lot of money and not a lot of range.
There are versions that have more.
They say the top of the line one is $81,000, but has only $279 miles of range.
There is a $350-mile range version for $72,000, and that's going to be the seller of the...
The premium touring.
The premium touring.
You've got the TZ lineup all up in...
I think the luxury one is going to have the higher horsepower number and, of course, less range.
Like, you have the Model 3 performance, fastest, highest horsepower, least range.
Yeah.
Actually, the base has the least range at that 250 number.
The top version is close.
Nick, this looks a lot better than the Grand Highlander.
It all, the Highlander EV.
It also looks a lot better than the Kia Sorrento.
Any thoughts on that?
I agree, but at 80 grand, I'm good.
I'm good having a slightly uglier car.
But it's going to lease.
And remember, it can make V10 sounds.
Do you remember that?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
So you're going to be able to drive this around and go,
whoo-o-o-p?
It is good-looking.
I totally, I agree with Ryan
that a sub-300-mile total range
is going to be difficult for first-time EV buyers
to wrap their head around,
and even existing EV buyers.
Toyota just cannot get this correct.
Like the BZ-4X was such a great example,
and now that car's been updated
and it's better now, but, like,
Toyota's just having some sort of EV adoption issue
where I think they want the cars.
I think Toyota's problem is
they want the cars to be reliable, like their gas cars.
But EV buyers, Tesla has proven,
EV buyers aren't that interested in reliability.
They just want a car that can, like,
change lanes quickly by itself and things like that.
It's kind of funny to see these different approaches to EVs.
I think Ryan's right.
I think everyone would forgive and not even care
that the horsepower was less than they thought
if the range was good,
but it's a double whammy of okay,
it's down on power and the range is nothing to write home about,
and it's not cheap.
I think it's price,
fine, but it becomes a tough
cell. Are you where there's an EV-9
with 500 horsepower?
That's the three-row?
Dang. That'd be cool.
Yeah, the tell you ride.
It's R-63 AMG of the modern era.
I'm here for it.
All right, give us our next news story.
Next news story is this model, it's a roadster.
Oh my God, guys, we cut some
roadster clip into a clip and posted it.
Yeah.
And I just happened to go on Twitter this week.
for the first time in probably a year and a half.
No joke.
I'd never go on Twitter.
Obviously, it's not, you know, it's a shadow of what it used to be.
It's not fun anymore.
X.
Yeah, X.
And I just so happened to go on Twitter, X, right when we had, right after we had cut this short,
where we were talking about how the Roadster is delayed again.
And they first announced it nine years ago, and the power numbers and the performance numbers
aren't even special anymore.
And X is just a bunch of.
of like guys, Tesla lovers,
agreeing with each other.
They're like, Doug is an idiot, he doesn't do anything.
And another would be like, yeah, he's so biased.
And like, no one is reading this.
Like, I happen to read it.
I'm sure this has gone on for years.
I happened to read it this week, but I was like,
oh my God, these people are screaming into a void.
Like, all Twitter is is people who are into Elon
because he's like, he's the Twitter guy.
They've algorithmically biased that to happen.
Yeah.
They've made that the case.
So they post, someone posted this,
and people are just free.
freaking out and they're all spinning each other up and getting like equally mad amongst each other with no one is defending me because there's no everybody on Twitter is into Elon.
I would defend you, Doug. I'm gonna log in right now.
I don't care.
These people are so insane. I don't care at all.
My favorite is the whole reason that he bought X was to promote free speech.
And then it turned into an echo chamber of Elon supporters.
Like the opposite of free speech or discourse at all.
There's not a single, like, and you got to assume a lot of them are bots too.
Probably people are spinning each other up with a bot.
And that's one of the things I found the most hilarious of the whole thing.
Like, people are screaming and then they get a reply and they get even madder about the, yeah, yeah, this.
And it's like, he's not even talking to a person.
It's just so, it's such a pathetic thing.
So anyway, whenever we say mean things about Tesla, apparently we are still getting dragged on Twitter.
Nowhere else, because there's no other safe space for these people.
And everyone agrees that you're right with what you're saying.
Yeah, of course.
We were sitting on the podcast talking about how it's been delayed nine years.
and the zero to 60 time is not even special anymore.
Those are objective facts.
Yeah.
But the reason this is a new story,
it's delayed another two weeks, which normally who cares, right?
You've waited nine years, what's another two weeks?
However, all the rumors of it being able to either fly
and have jet packs and all that,
and then they're launching it in Texas,
where there is supposed to be some other,
is making people speculate,
is it actually going to fly?
Like, it better be good.
It's not going to fly.
They patented some new rear-wing technology,
something that I saw,
and it was like, okay, that's cool.
It's going to have active arrow.
I think in an extra two weeks, let me put grok on it, it might fly.
They're canceled to launch because of weather because it might fly at the launch.
You know what, Tesla people on Twitter, X, I'm sorry, if it flies, I'll take it all back.
You'll eat your shorts.
I'll eat my shorts.
However.
How long does it have to fly for?
That and also, how long is that delay?
You know, we said it could fly in 2016.
In 2017, we said it would drive.
In 26, we said it would fly.
It's never going to come to market.
We're just going to make promises every few years about what the future comes.
Remember was it the cyber truck where they promised it would have an FSD, but you had to get it without it.
And then they'll update it later.
Then it like never came for people.
I would be a little worried on taking their word for it's going to fly.
Just don't take their word.
Someone in ex-Tesla alumni that got laid out by Uncle Lee.
Yeah, but you still have a car, don't you?
I do have a card.
Do you know this about Ryan Lopez, people on the interwebs wherever we posted?
Ryan Lopez is a Tesla enthusiast.
No, I'm not a Tesla enthusiast.
You're driving around on a Model 3.
It's an appliance.
It is easy.
I have free charging in my apartment in my parking spot.
It is an appliance, and that is it.
I have my fun car that has all the right smells, all the right noises.
Why don't you have a fun car that's a daily driver?
We're going to talk about that and talk cars.
All right, go to the truck car segment.
Why don't you have a fun car that's a daily driver?
I thought about it.
Actually, one of my...
Buddy mine drives an E39M5 every day, and it's a fun car.
I don't know if you know.
What's his name?
Yeah, he's a Kenan.
I don't know.
I think I've heard of him.
Yeah, yeah.
Nice guy.
He's good accents.
From Ohio, he's got an Ethernet and 5.
He drives it every day.
That's his daily driver.
Fun car.
Yep.
He doesn't have to sequester himself in an appliance.
Am I sequestering myself?
Yes.
You're a car enthusiast who's driving around on a Model 3 long range with an Auburn bumper sticker.
Don't do this to us.
It's got a magnet, not a bumper sticker.
We're classy.
Does Tesla employees work really hard to lay down that clear code as well as they could?
Oh, it's horrible.
as well as they could give the constraint they were working with, being outside.
You'll be happy to know that the Tesla's days are numbered.
How many numbers?
A few numbers.
And we'll see.
When producer Sean was to pay me more, it could happen sooner.
Wait, I want to talk about this.
The lease is coming doing it.
Yeah.
When next week?
Next week?
Yeah.
Are you aware of this?
You're running out of time, dude.
I'm not running out of time.
You got a week to buy a new car.
Most auctions are seven days on the website unless it ends on a holiday.
So you literally need to bid right now.
You know, I have another car on order.
I did the $250 order fee for another model of three.
Oh, my God.
What?
But I'm also thinking of just letting the order cancel and time out and just that being a wash.
There are car enthusiasts.
Yep.
Who daily drive fun cars.
You're looking at your supra.
You could daily a supra.
When a car enthusiast that the net worth is so much smaller than yours could not daily drive a supra.
The super is going to be free.
The super is going to be free.
It will be free in the end.
My 993 turbo was free.
You know, I want to put a peg in the super thing
because we have one that I'm pulling up
for the market report that had some miles on it.
It was also Renaissance Red,
and it sold for insane money.
I don't know about insane money,
but it sold higher than I thought it would.
Yeah, I agree.
Okay.
It's a motto.
You know why?
Because it's the greatest car ever.
Okay, but it's better than a 993 turbo.
I have complicated feelings about the subject.
I'd like to really dive into it.
The 993 turbo drives better.
There's no question.
Totally.
It handles better, it steers better, it's faster, it grips better.
Everything about it is better.
I like the way the super looks better.
I think the supra is just one of the coolest.
But the 9-11 shape is, of course.
It's iconic, but I like the way the super looks better.
The super is a product of our generation being iconic because of Fast and Furious, you know, 90s poster car.
The super is more usable.
Yeah.
A 993 turbo owned correctly requires real effort to maintain.
It really does.
It's an air-cooled car.
It leaks.
It's old.
It's old technology.
To truly do it correctly, you have to put thousands.
You have to treat it like an exotic car, which it essentially is.
Right.
And my supra requires nothing.
No.
The Yamaha engineered 2JZ GTE, best engine.
It's fantastic power train.
Best engine involved.
It's so good.
And everybody makes fun of its stock.
But for a daily around town, it is such a good engine.
People make fun of its stock.
It is always in the right in the power band.
It is fast.
You barely have to gear down.
Yep.
It is a great for daily driving.
I know I could get more power.
out of it, and that would be cool too.
You could throw a big single on it and make all the noises,
but the little twin turbos, they spool up right away.
It works.
It's a great time.
The thing that I really never got into at the 993 was like,
Porsche people, be a Porsche guy.
Yeah.
And people always get mad at me when I talk about this.
Like, who cares with the images?
Just drive the car and enjoy it.
I just never like, when I would look at the car after I parked it,
I was just never like, yes, this is what I want.
And when I do that with the Supra, I'm so excited about that car.
Every time I walk up to, I'm like, this is cool.
People in the street get so excited.
People in the street don't get excited about a 993.
When you see a guy with the 993, you're thinking,
this guy's got a man bun and a watch collection.
You know what I mean?
And I don't, that's just, I don't want to be that kind of.
I just never, like, felt like it was me.
Yeah.
You know?
I felt like I was driving a cool car, but I was, like, pretending.
LARPing is what the kids call it these days.
Yeah, larping.
I was out there, larping.
Yep, Larpin hard.
Nick, what are your thoughts on this topic?
Nick is a Super, I think.
No, Nick is a Fast and Furious guy.
I struggle.
I love the 993 in terms of the looks.
So I think they're both equally iconic.
I think both are expensive as a daily.
But I'd go Supra.
I mean, like, if I take the financial side out of it
and go with your argument that they're both free,
assuming you ignore the opportunity cost of the money,
that I'd probably, I mean, I would want to do what you did,
which is a year check both of them off the list.
And I think anytime you get a new car, you're going to like that car better for a while.
Then by the end of the year, you're like, okay, I've had my fun.
So we'll see how you feel about the super in six months.
Yeah.
No, I'll be ready.
There's no question I'll be ready.
I want to replace it with an R34 or an Evo 8.
Yeah.
I'm already looking.
Baseside blue.
Feelers are out.
If you have a Bayside Blue R34 GTR, that is not yet.
No, no, I don't want it yet.
I don't want it yet.
If you have one in, if you have one in seven months.
If you have one, you will not sell it to me.
I will not buy it.
If nominated it, I will not serve.
I want to put this feeler out there because you talk about cars all the time and people send you the worst cars, the wrong cars that are modified, cars that are not the right color, cars that are not the right year.
Nonetheless, I have bought about three cars from putting feelers out on this pot.
Yes.
In six months, a feeler will come out.
But for all the Doug Army out there, base eye blue, stock.
Stock wheels, stock suspension, stock, stock, stock, stock, stock.
What?
What that one that we sold?
Remember that one?
I remember.
This one, the one that we sold.
a couple of wiles ago,
that car lives in my brain.
I think about it all the time.
It's like the one thing I want more than my Supra.
I want to move back to the Model 3.
You release this up.
You got another one coming.
If you get another Model 3,
I'll be so mad at you.
It is possible to daily...
By the way, I love...
The Model 3's great.
People go get them, have them as appliances.
It's fine.
Ryan Lopez works here.
We live in like automotive.
We got a Clio V6 over there.
We have two integral eyes in the shop.
I drove them all.
The argument he needs an appliance, he lives in Little Italy where everything is walkable.
His commute to work is maybe four miles max.
You don't need a commuter car at all.
They just open a Whole Foods half a mile away.
It's great.
You could just get a bicycle, dude.
Yeah.
Get an e-bike and get something cool.
Get one of these.
I had a bicycle.
I got hit on a...
I was hit by a car.
Okay.
Then get a car.
If you can't beat him, join them.
But at least get a cool one.
Yeah.
Like all these cars.
They're cool cars.
Why don't you get an EvoE?
What's your list?
No.
No.
My list is very small.
Okay.
It's sell the drift car.
I almost said Zesty Giff's car because of you...
You're going to sell the zesty drip car?
One of my best friends has been dogging me for years and living here and I thought about downsizing to one car.
It's between M2 Comp, Hawkenheim Silver, manual.
Really?
Of course.
Good choice.
And a 2020 plus GX460.
A what?
The ugly one?
I don't think it's ugly.
Okay.
Oh, okay.
You are going to leave behind me in the Japanese car world?
It was just us, baby.
No, I'm going to...
to get a fun daily and then I'm buying a Pajero Evo as soon as I could.
Ooh.
Pajero? They're so cool.
They're so cool.
They're not that great.
I want a little SUV.
I don't care about it being good to drive.
I'm in a little weird Japanese daily that.
Why is this daily that?
I don't care how it drives.
I look cool as hell.
That's deliable.
I'm going to put a surfboard on it.
I'm going to look insane.
It's going to be great.
Okay.
What should I buy, Doug?
Don't say Evo 8.
I don't want an EVO 8.
I don't want us.
Give us a working budget.
And we can turn that into a Cars and Reds episode.
We're on Cars and Bids.
Yeah, but go to the main page.
Okay.
I'll tell you, we'll scroll through.
I'll tell you what you about it.
What's a budget?
Let's say 45,000.
Oh, 45,000.
Dude, by Mark C-32 AMG.
I do not want a C-32.
No, no offense to this wagon.
It is a nice wagon.
No.
Okay, what do you want a manual?
You want something cool like a Model 3.
Listen, listen, crazy.
Yeah.
Mr. Kia.
Oh, I need the car to drive itself.
for my two-mile commute from downtown to downtown.
I want the audience.
There's like three right turns I got to make.
It's way too much.
I got to have the Elon do it for me.
Hang on, hang on.
Right.
Right.
Left.
Right.
Tell me.
What do you look at?
You want a manual?
Manual.
It's got to be manual.
If I'm getting rid of my fun car and my soulless daily,
I have to have one car that can have the full experience.
I drove producer Sean's M2, which is not a comp,
and it was unbelievable.
I don't want a comp.
I want Hawkinghawks over.
You know what the answer is that.
You don't even need to pull it up.
Termi Cobra.
Yeah.
No.
Yeah.
You're from Alabama.
Save some money.
Okay.
First off, I want you to tell us a termy Cobra story from growing up.
You must have one.
Or a Camaro.
I'll take a Camaro story.
This girl had a crush one.
Crush on had a Termi Cobra.
That was great.
Mary.
Yeah.
Caitlin, she's already married.
What about one of these?
No.
It has, okay, no, no.
You're pointing out all these insane cars.
It has to be reliable.
It can't be.
that old. I wanted to have creature comforts. I wanted to have
freaking air conditioning for sure that works. He's gonna end up in a Model 3.
2009. It's gonna happen. Maintenance. Maintenance.
We're wasting our breath here. Maybe. Maybe.
But like get, but like get so he is gonna, because everybody who wants
easy ends up at easy. And easy is just ordering a Model 3 and having the lease
replaced by. He's already got the order. He's put 250, pot committed.
The difference between me and, and he's not folded. The difference between Nick and I and
Ryan Lopez. We don't do easy. Right. We go out and get the SLR. We go out and
Manual swap the mercy.
Not only, we manual swap our E-55, and then we FaceTime the guy that did it to fix a loose bolt.
Nick even made the purchase of a Kia SUV difficult.
That's how much we don't do easy.
Yeah, we did, buddy.
We do not do easy.
We don't settle.
We never settle.
We're overlooking a massive factor.
You guys make a lot more money than me.
You can afford to not be easy.
M2 comp is on your list.
At $10,000, I can find you a cooler car than a Model 3.
I would get, you know what I would get for $50?
I'd spend 27 on that really nice late 996 with X-51, 27.
You've got a big maintenance budget left over.
And I'm daily driving driving.
Yeah, are you kidding?
Where am I putting my surfboard?
On it.
They sell a rack.
We're putting on my camera gear when I go to shoots.
In the front, they're huge.
They get back seats.
How much camera gear do you have?
I'm going to drive this up the five to L.A.
I drove my 993 up the five 20 times.
You'd be surprised 996s can go freeway speed with ease.
They can actually, a lot of these cars actually can go freeway speed, believe it or not.
Avora, $34,000.
Boom.
That's a great choice, actually.
Not practical.
What do you mean not?
It's four-seat Toyota engine car.
Why is that not practical?
Dude, get a scat pack.
The problem, this is the problem with these people.
Why is that not private?
You can be scatting all around town.
Explain why an avora is not practical.
Explain.
There's no back seats.
There's backseats.
You have no kids and a dog.
What do you need a back seat for?
Who you give them?
Maybe I want kids in a dog.
I want my friends in the back.
But buy a new car when you have kids.
You're nine months out.
Where am I putting my Pelican case?
Your Pelican case.
It's got huge back seats.
Unless you got a bun in the oven you haven't told us about.
Look at that. That's huge.
You can obviously get it back there.
I'm going to be dinging up the car and moving my case in and out.
That is not.
Where's my golf bag going to go?
You know, I will say to Kenan's credit, we all, including all the viewers, make fun of him, right?
For how pristinely he treats his car, like delicately, right?
But he never makes BS excuses like this.
Like, you know where Kennan puts his Pelican case in the trunk?
You know what?
Or Kenon puts his golf bag in the car.
He drives it to the golf course.
He drives it to the video.
shoot because Kenan is real.
He has an E39M5 with a huge trunk
and a backseat.
Great, get an E3995.
I don't want E3905.
I definitely could.
I don't want E3995.
I'm not spending.
I'm not giving you a 7Rs 4.
I will never speak to you again.
Great.
All of our conversations are going to go through Johnny.
I will not give up the car that I love
and I build my, the drift car is my first car.
And I put so much time into it.
I will not put it into a car that I don't absolutely love
to replace it.
M2 comp.
would fill that nicely.
M2Comp approved, do that.
Evora Heritage.
How about this?
If you buy an M2Comp,
Doug and I will personally refund your $250 deposit
you're going to lose on the model.
We will.
125 here, 125 there.
Okay.
You're going to do it.
By the way, that Jeddah, that's what you should get.
The Jetta is cool.
It's got 282,000 miles.
Have you thought about a motorswap?
A radical SR3.
How about this Mercedes-Benzsons?
I bet the comments are reasonable on this.
Go back to results.
Comments are great.
Go back to a result.
A little verbose.
I want to talk through.
By the way, the GX thing is interesting, but you want an SUV?
It's practical.
Get 100 series instead of a GX.
Keep going.
The 460 motor is not as reliable as the 4-7.
Nice 100 series, and I'd want to find a really, really nice one, and then spend 30 to
30 to 35.
Yeah, you'll spend 30.
But you'll get it 100% back when you sell.
100%.
But it's old.
God.
It's not feel efficient.
Nick and I are.
sitting here like this is what this is this is cars you know like new we are we have that argument when
when people say new we're like oh it's new i i've been spoiled by the tesla and the bluetooth and the
phone connecting and the opening the door the keyless entry and all that i got an idea but like it doesn't
have character it's not special don't you want to drive a special car every day i have a special car
every but you never use it like don't you want to wake up in the morning as a car enthusiast and get
into a special car every single day makes my special experience
more special because I drive it never happened it never happened I haven't seen the
zesty drift car move in six months that is you first off you've been gone for four months
first and foremost I got back a month ago absolutely I drove it Quinn I drove it on Friday
he posted on Instagram for proof when yeah I literally took it to Hmart keep going I'm gonna tell you
some more I'm gonna XF sport break I would buy next nope okay next not manual actually in honor of
Felipe let's chill a couple cars coming up there's a Harley Davidson Ranger dude have you seen
I'm so into it.
Even though it is, it does look like something
you could recreate on your own.
But this was a Ford done Seema built.
Yeah, it is, did you see this?
Beyond Rad.
Only one.
I saw it come up and I was like, I can't feature this.
Like the featured were packed right now with featured.
Yeah.
And then I was, I looked through the pictures like,
now this is absolutely being featured.
It's so cool.
The interior, I mean, they did just enough,
but it truly does feel like it was Ford had done it.
Yeah, you gotta wonder if they really thought about it.
Ford supplied some parts for it.
Pumfrey also did one on an SVT lightning version of the Ranger that they toyed.
Like they were really considering modifying and improving the Ranger lineup and didn't, sadly.
We got the cyclone.
But it was pretty cool when they tried.
Yeah. Those little seats, look, you got a back seat there. They swivel.
Are you telling me to buy this?
Yes, you're insane.
If you bought this, I would think you were the coolest person in the world.
Look, I would chip in on this if you let me drive it occasionally.
As opposed to right now where I think you're the uncoolest person in the world,
if you bought this, I would think you're the coolest person in the world.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
You were aware of this twin turbo charge.
Or what about it's cool?
You have in the market report in 07 escalade.
Dude, go back.
Did you see this result?
Have you ever thought about just pop it and in an escalate?
Just having it's like an extra car.
You know what?
I watch all the hooves escalades and I can't like help but nod every time he talks and be like, I get it.
This car.
You're not wrong.
This car sold for $14,000.
It had no miles.
With no miles.
I'm not joking.
This car has 200,000 miles left in it.
Easily.
And it sold for 14 grand.
And you can sit here and just have an escalate.
Right.
Comfortable, sitting up high.
I would much rather have this than a Model 3, by the way.
And by the way, I would rather have every car we sell than a Model 3.
Every car we sell.
We sell Model 3s.
Yeah, they're the bottom.
Only the performance ones.
Go back.
Go to any car that we've sold.
And I will confirm for you yes or no that I would rather have it than a Model 3.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Oh, yes, absolutely.
Oh, definitely.
That thing is cool.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
Yeah, well, not, not that.
Oh, yeah, not that.
I should have bought this.
This is nice.
You are all over the place.
This is a chance.
He's only looking at New Carth.
He wants, like, he wants, like, Google Maps
and the center screen.
He's lost.
What's wrong with that?
Because you don't go anywhere
and you have the ability to, you're young, you're single.
You have the ability to have something, like,
really cool for a couple of years.
And DuCop.
But I had you not in there.
M2Cop isn't even, like, you could go crazy,
like you could do something crazy at Avorah.
What's wrong with that of Avora?
Yeah.
You could, it'd be so cool.
And instead we're sitting here,
I need Bluetooth.
I need Bluetooth.
Bluetooth is really nice.
It's nice to have.
God.
You could use that 250 for the deposit
to buy a real nice set of AirPods.
I have AirPods.
I just don't understand.
And I'll tell you something.
I have regret about when I was in your life position.
Didn't you buy a 360 when you were my age?
I have regret about having too many
cars with back seats and four doors i was into wagons i bought a bunch of wagons i had amg wagons long
before nick was even born i had um i'm older than you i had a ctsv wagon i had a panama i
all this stuff and i didn't i should have bought sports cars because now that i have three children
there aren't there's only two three road cars in the world that are cool i do have an option
i do have a wild card and it's a manual v8 vantage i suggested that a second ago and you just said
Rewind the tapes.
Literally pulled it up and he said, no, you pointed that one.
You showed a convertible and I said.
Oh, give me a break.
I was just looking at the results from yesterday.
No.
Hey, by the way, any Aston Martin I'm cool with for you.
DB7 included by that Lexus one.
I drove Johnny's V Advantage.
So what I'm hearing is when you drive a car, you decide you want it.
Yeah.
What is wrong with that?
He does want Sean's car and Johnny's car.
May I suggest taking the Integrale out for an afternoon?
I did and, yeah.
I drove the Integralee, Evo 2, and the,
They reno sport Clio v6 yesterday.
Yeah.
What a day.
The Evo 2 is pretty cool.
The Evo 2 is cool.
The CLEO is pretty cool.
The CLEO is way cooler.
You think so?
It's cooler.
Yeah.
One other suggestion and we move on, 8J TTRS.
No.
No Audi.
Five-cylinder turbo, supermodable.
No out.
Just enough backseat.
If I made more money,
absolutely manual V8 R8.
That's what I would have.
Okay, but if you make less money,
there's a million other options that are fantastic,
including any of these.
Yeah.
That roadster that still is a six-speed manual
that sold for 29.
Wow, that was a buy.
What did you get a convertible?
Have to be hard time.
You know what?
It's not even worth it.
Speaking of convertibles, Nick, tell us about yours.
SLRNs, by the time this is out, it'll be over by a day.
I'm, you know, most auctions, all the action happens at the end.
Like, it kind of gets bit up a little bit.
Most of my auctions, however, and I don't know if it's this pot or whatnot,
tend to get a little bit more action early in the process.
So I'm freaking out.
We still got a little ways to go at the moment of us.
discussing this, however, I'm confident in the cars and bids community to come through.
Boy, did you see his eyes? He's like, I'm confident in the community.
Did he kick you into the table, or was that just me?
I have had a few discussions with a contingency plan if it doesn't come through with DC Motorworks
to manual swaps.
So that's your plan.
If it doesn't sell, because you have a reserve on it insanely, if it doesn't sell.
Insantly.
If it doesn't sell, then I'm going to, because the main thing keeping me from doing a manual swap
is, oh, the car's too valuable.
It's too much money to modify.
If it doesn't hit the number, I think it is,
then it'll no longer feel that way, and it's worth a shot.
Okay.
And I spoke to the guys at DC, they're like,
not only are they hoping that they get it,
they're bidding on it too.
So, like, one way or another,
it may end up there regardless,
but we'll see where it lands.
I am curious about that.
And by the time this pod goes up,
you will know if Nick Arndham.
I wish I got to drive it before you sold it.
Well, you may have a chance.
Oh, that's right.
I do think, I think there are a lot of people
smartly waiting to the year,
I was looking at a garret of super legerer that sold today the day we're filming this a Wednesday for the listeners.
And it was at like 1.30 with an hour remaining.
Yeah. And it bit up to 296. So it is very common.
It's sold. I agree with you. I was concerned about that super legerer. I was looking at it like what's going to happen here.
But they people showed up. Well enough people were like interested in just waiting to the end. And I do think like generally when I bid on things, I wait till the end too. Like I get that. So I don't think you can judge a car 24 hours out to
too strongly, but as the seller, it is still a very nerve-wracking experience.
What about your other convertible? It's headed off to a shop in Orange County.
Yep. Flatbed picked it up. Newport convertible engineering. I had put down a deposit
like two months ago when we talked about it here. They ordered in the fabric. They found some
room for me in their schedule. They said it'll take three weeks, so we'll see.
This is for Nick's convertible range. I know. I blew a giant hole on on the way to
car week. But they're going to not just do the top.
I'm having them like refresh everything.
Every rubber, gasket, seal, go over the engine, like, or not the engine, but the motor that raises the top.
Like, I'm going to try to make it nice again, and it's going to be expensive.
Yeah, what is all this going to cost?
They've quoted, and I pre-authorized, like, $8,500 worth of work.
That sounds reasonable to me.
For a new top and all this new stuff, there'll be some while you're in there.
It's like, I expect it to be more like 10, probably, when we're all set and done.
I hope they don't listen to this.
But that's fun.
I don't think they do.
do because they barely listen to my emails.
Communication is not their strong suit, but I think their workmanship is more than makes up.
Will you and can we go up there?
They told me I'm not allowed to film there, but I'm definitely going up there and I'm going to try to at least poke around.
Worst case scenario, I'll do like, they do in like the courtroom.
We'll all like sketch it afterwards.
Have a little like caricature artist to do it.
Because they convert weird stuff.
Oh, and like classic Ferraris to Tesla.
I don't know if you know this company, but Newport convertible.
They're famous globally because people send them cars from all over the world.
They are famous for converting cars into convertibles and they do...
Yeah, you did a first-gen Kyan that this did.
Yeah, oh yeah.
That actually I thought sold for it.
Yeah, they've done a lot of like Hellcats.
A lot of Hellcat.
But then they also will do Blue Chip like six, seven-figure cars.
It's crazy.
And MSUVs, which are wild.
Like LX-570s and Landfusers.
Yeah.
Rangerovers.
Anyway, I'm excited for all this.
I'm thrilled that you're going to be able to finally use the car again.
It is crazy.
So the SLRs basically I can't drive it.
The land rover's down.
So we're down to a Kia and a station wagon right now.
So it's time to start buying.
And I'm excited for that next phase.
We're ready to buy unless the SLR doesn't sell,
in which case we're ready to keep the SLR for another year.
Yeah.
Try it again in 27.
Which I don't think your story with the SLR is done.
I think selling it now, sure.
I'm honestly okay either way.
Other than like once you've listed it,
you've mentally moved on.
but if it ends up staying with me,
then we'll have some...
I think his story's done.
I'm ready for it to go.
I want to see him do some crazy stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah, like get a Model 3.
It'll happen.
If you get another model 3.
What a weenie decision?
You're not a weenie?
No.
You're not a weenie.
Like, there are people who...
I'm not a weenie.
Yeah.
Get that 1M.
That's nice.
No reserve.
I mean, that is super nice.
Yeah.
That seller had the balls I didn't have.
Yeah, why did you go?
I want no reserve my, the Forerunner,
the Project Forerunner.
Because I want to keep mine if it doesn't.
Hit the number I want and I'm going to enjoy it longer.
It would hit the number you want if you go into reserve.
Yeah, chicken egg.
I'm going to, my talk car segment tonight, I'm going to devote to my friend Perry.
Perry from Atlanta.
Perry from Atlanta.
My friend Perry has been making fun of me for a year or so about my Sequoia,
which I don't really think about all that often unless he texts me about it.
It's not just Perry.
And one of the reasons he's been making fun of me is because the Sequoia has these engine failures.
And so Perry got a Yukon
And he has other family members of the Yukons
He lives in the South, big family
They all have big families
You buy a Yukon.
You had a suburban growing up.
We did have a Yukon.
We had a Yukon, okay.
A Yukon X-L.
That's what you do.
That's what you do.
So he's got a Yukon, and his brother's got a Yukon,
and everybody's got Yukons.
And he's been making fun of my Sequoia
for the engine failures.
And the other day, his brother was driving his new Yukon,
and the engine exploded.
We looked it up.
And it turns out that the 6.2-liter V8 inside the Yukon, the suburban and many other car, the Tahoe escalated, is undergoing, has an enormous amount of problems.
And there is significant, there's federal scrutiny already from the government recalls.
There's significant people on Reddit on forums, on Facebook, complaining about their 6.2-Liter V8 failing.
So we don't make fun of this, Akua anymore in my group chat with Perry.
But the reason I'm bringing this up is because his brother flatbedded the car to the dealership and said, all right, when am I getting my new engine?
The dealer was like, listen, you're like the 30th guy in line at our store.
Oh, my God.
They were like, here's a loner car.
It's a Buick enclave.
We'll call you.
There's like no recourse.
He was like, they complained to GM corporate and GM corporate doesn't even participate because there are so many people with these six.
4.2-liter V8 engine failures. Lordy.
He lives in Atlanta in Georgia.
Isn't that why? Can you do like a Lemon Law thing there?
Probably. But like, you know...
That takes time. It takes time. It takes effort.
And then there's only about three full-size SUVs.
If youcuea has its own engine failures.
Like, you'd like it fixed. Like, they wanted the car
in the first place. Doesn't sound like it's going to be.
But this is like a thing.
And it's been a thing apparently since the 21 model year
and they haven't figured out how to adjust it
even as up to brand new cars. Isn't that while?
Yeah. Meanwhile, I went into my dealer,
by the way. I've complained bitterly
about the Toyota engine failure.
And I went in my dealer and I asked him about it.
He said it's been several years
since he's seen a car come in with the engine failure.
He said it was really confined to the very earliest cars.
And he didn't even remember initially what I was asking about.
He was like, oh, yeah, those engine failures
that did happen initially.
So I don't think it's that big of a deal on Toyota.
So you're no longer as upset that the hybrids got recalled
and the non-hybids?
I'm not as upset.
It doesn't sound like it's going to affect me.
It sounds like we're all going to be okay.
But boy am I glad I didn't buy a GMC, you come.
It's also funny because, like,
trucks are the things the Americans do best.
The Americans have shed this reputation for bad reliability.
But like, here's a American truck with bad reliability.
Like, they are still right there in it.
Not a lot of cars make you wish you had a waggonier, but this is one of them.
Although, yeah, the stories about that were also pretty...
Could you imagine, though, that your dealer being like...
We're parking it out back and we have no idea.
Well, the dealer's got to be equally frustrating.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, how are they going to sell more if they can't even stand by the ones they have?
If you Google anything.
Right.
It's like unbelievable what comes up.
Like every Reddit thread.
The top Reddit thread that Google, when you type in GMC engine failures, a guy posts, I'm, he starts his post on Reddit.
I'm a 17-year active duty Marine station at Camp Pendleton.
So like, they're screwing over the veterans.
Yikes.
But the story that this guy says is that he had a, and his 21 years, he had a, and his 21, you
Yukon, the engine blew in 23.
They replaced it a month
later. They were driving on the freeway,
on the five freeway, the engine blew again at
60 miles an hour.
Car stop, traffic swerving around them.
That's why the federal government is involved.
Crazy.
Anyway, don't buy a Yukon.
Buy a Sequoia.
Or don't buy a Yukon, a suburban, or a Tahoe or an
Escalade, or a Sequoia,
or a tundra.
This is brought to you by
Felipe. Yeah.
Go electric, folks.
I have been thinking about it, like, these engines that have complicated moving parts, combustion engines.
Electric cars are a lot simpler.
Like, I hate to say it.
Where are you going with this?
Like, you can see buy it an R1S.
Or a Model 3?
No.
Okay.
R2 would be cool.
R2 would be cool if they weren't so expensive.
I would do an R2.
God, you are too young to be driving an SUV.
You need a headache.
This is the thing.
You need a headache.
A headache.
It's a right.
headache next door. You're in your life stage you need a headache. Sean, where's Sean
left? Tell him. Sean's over it. You need a headache.
Mm-hmm. Life, career, women, not enough of a headache. No. I need a car to add to it. You need a
card that like, because one day you're going to have real headaches and like you're going to
look back and be like, that was fun. Yeah. Radical SR3. Done. God. Here we go. Uh, all right. Do we
have any other chalk carses? I think that was a good one. You want to talk about that super sale?
Yeah, we should talk about it.
So Doug famously bought a Renaissance Red Super recently.
And we had this one listed on the site, and you said that maybe you should have bought one with more miles.
I wish I bought this one.
I still do.
Yeah.
And I wasn't really sure where it would land, timing belt service.
These Yamaha engineer 2JZs are pretty much bulletproof.
This is the one to buy.
It's manual.
Yeah, it's an early car.
The ones that bring the most money are the 98s and the later cars.
But yeah, yes.
I mean, there's not a significant value difference.
It's still a good example.
Renaissance Red sold for $123,000 with $60,000 miles.
Yeah.
That's serious money.
It's just the best car.
He presented it tremendously well.
It's a two-owner car.
No modifications.
And these cars, once people start modifying, they become a lot faster and more fun, but you also start to wonder, you know, if you want to buy one to mod it, a blank slate is a cool place to start.
Not that anyone will mod this one, obviously.
It's so cool.
Yeah.
If you're going to modify one, you get a non-2JZ GTE car.
You got a GE car.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yesterday, my three-year-old got in the car with a bag of, what are those, like veggie straws.
Oh, yeah, those are good.
Delicious.
I had the whole bag right there.
In our 30,000 mile one-owner Mark four.
I mean, it's good you can enjoy it, though, because, you know, you bought it to be enjoyed.
I love that car.
Now, I wish I'd bought this one.
But you could, the person who won this car could have also bought a Kman GT4.
for the same money.
Yeah.
Different experience.
Very different experience.
My experience with people who have this level of supras and are paying this much money for
them, I've now met a few of those people.
They all have 10 cars.
The supra is a nostalgia play.
This isn't like, oh, I could have this or this.
It's a, I have a Gt4, and I have a this and a that.
And I also wanted a supra.
Yeah.
Much like yourself.
You've checked a lot of boxes.
And so the remaining boxes to fill are necessarily the fastest or the best.
Yeah, exactly.
I have a suspicion this was not in a comparison in the person's mind.
Yeah.
Wasn't this or that.
It was like, I want a great supra.
Well, you look at this, don't you think?
Man, I could be daily in a supra.
Very cool.
How about an NA?
Can I drive yours?
How about an NA?
No.
We had an incident where Felipe damaged one of my cars.
So no one's driving my cars anymore.
No one.
Sad.
I've never even driven one of your cars.
Felipe ruined it for it.
Next time you see Felipe, you remind him.
what happened. Belippa's not even here. You tell them the trick here anymore. What are
NA Auto Supras going for? Oh god, less. You could also get a Japanese one. A Z for nothing.
Pull up Super and pull up, I want to do like a year thing like end the years at 99.
Or no, you don't have to start the years at anything. You're right, you're right. Just end that at 99.
I want to make sure we don't get any of the, uh, the 500s. Oh, true, true. Yeah, those are not good.
See, look, Mark three super right? Mark three, honestly. Markers are so shit. No, no, no. They look
It's so cool, though. Look at that car.
No.
That's a tip, but look at that car.
No.
You don't like the Mark 3 at all?
I don't like it at all.
Really?
Mark 2's worse.
Well, maybe, but 30 grand for this one?
For Japanese?
Now we're talking.
Oh, boy.
That's zesty, all right.
That is zesty.
Is it a Vailside Invader kid?
We're going right back to Zesty.
I wasn't the one I was hoping to click on it.
No, what about?
Go back up.
Go back up.
This.
This one right here.
Look at this clean Japanese import, 30 Gs.
It's not a turbo, but it's a stick.
On some work Vss.
That's up your alley.
Those are not work VS's.
They look like it.
Those are like maybe knockoffs.
How about this?
Look at this.
Big exhaust in New Mexico plates.
You know this thing's already been abused.
What can go wrong?
If we all got Renaissance Red Supras of different price points just to troll him,
and no one will ever know, is it the nice one or the crappy one?
That's true.
That is true.
Just remove those side skirts and put on some basic wheels.
This is a true coop.
I'd rather have an S-15.
Are those legal yet?
Yeah.
What year were they?
99.
99.
You'd rather have an S-15 than a Supra?
Yeah.
It's a four-cylinder.
Yeah, it's an SR-20.
It's the Lord's engine.
Nick and I, we don't do anything less than six.
Okay.
Unless it's a plug-in hybrid-key.
That's like a high-strung turbo three-cylinder, probably.
Super's cool, and you mentioned earlier that people are dogging you
or they have opinions on how much with the experiences for the dollar.
Like, you can get a faster car, it's slow, whatever.
But it's a super.
Yeah, I mean, you know, I think that that's a, all those people are right,
but like that's, I have those cars.
I mean, there's people that spend half a million for a Porsche 3, 5, 6.
Yeah, like, yeah.
Give me a break.
And I made fun of those people.
And they would have the same argument to me.
It's like, yeah, but this is the experience I wanted,
and this is what they cost, and I can afford it.
So I did it.
Plus, you know, I got a 4GT, you know, like, I want a Supra.
Yeah.
And now I got a Super GTs.
Have you?
Oh, God, I know.
We got to do something about that.
That's the car I wish you let me drive before.
Well, Ryan, you still can drive it,
right onto the transport truck to take it to Willow Springs.
Well, we have.
Well, Felipe's not going to promote the business anymore.
Somebody's got to.
We have all these crazy cars, amazing auctions, ending at the Willow Springs
reimagined event on October 17th.
Go out to Willow Springs, see the cars, have some funnel cake.
What do they have out there?
Funnel cake?
He's not sure about funnel cake.
He's taking off his headphone.
I don't know why.
Just say yesterday or no, funnel cake, Sean.
I think it's actually an elephant here.
But it's not in California.
They're using vegetable oil.
Anyway, my Ford GT is going to be amazing auction cars there.
We have some really, really cool surprises coming.
My Ford GT is not the coolest car there.
That honor goes to the Letitia.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I know, call it by what it actually is what it should be.
It's a Cleo.
Cleo will be safe.
Clio. Nick, are you aware of this?
I'm not aware of how it became a Letitia.
Okay, so the Clio was called the Cleo.
Yeah, I got that far.
We know that.
It's a Cleo.
In that car, you see it?
You think Cleo.
Yeah.
It's like you see blue when you think blue.
Except that the Clio in Japan was sold as the Renaultitia.
Wow.
And that is a Japanese one.
And so technically,
and they call, even the V6 one, they called it the Letitia V6.
I'm saying.
How bizarre.
How bizarre.
Was that like a translation thing like the Peggiero?
I don't know.
For whatever reason, they didn't want to call it Cleo in Japan.
I don't know.
It was Cleo everywhere else.
And so only in Japan is it Letitia.
And obviously the best imported cars come from Japan.
So this one came from the pan.
And there's actually a plaque between the seats that says Renaultitia.
Wow.
But they rebadged it on the outside because you would.
That thing is so cool to look at.
It's so cool.
Have you driven it? No.
She'd get behind the wheel.
Philippa ruined the cars.
I can't drive the cars anymore.
No, I drove it.
It was great.
I drove the hell out of it.
You letting him drive it?
It was great.
Model 3 driver.
If that car had two things, I would buy it.
Backseat.
Although I would consider buying it even without them.
Backseat Apple Carplay.
Self-driver.
That one is just too nice.
Like, I need a 65,000-mile car.
That's a 19,000-mile car.
I can't believe somebody let you drive it.
I imagine Sean was sitting in the passenger seat
staring anxiously at every move you made.
Doug, I've driven some really nice cars.
You're legit.
I think you're legit.
Sean doesn't think you're legit.
I know.
I need to win over Sean.
We've got to win over Sean.
And it's going to be harder for you now that Felipe
damaged my car.
Do you understand?
But that doesn't affect me.
Yeah, but there's an air of letting people drive stuff
in it getting damaged that's permeated the office.
It's like when that bird was in.
We got a sage the office, I think.
Yeah.
I think so too.
Dude, now that Felipe's gone,
we should have done it anyway.
This doesn't matter of course.
Okay, we got to move on to the questions.
The questions were,
we had questions this week,
despite Sean's best efforts
to hide them from the viewing audience.
This week,
this week the questions are going to be
right there in the first comment.
Sean,
right there in the first comment.
The questions post is linked in the first comment.
Not this week, it wasn't.
It was.
Yeah.
Sean, the description is not the comments.
Nobody reads the description.
We read the comments.
People should read the description.
It's kind of hard to even get at the show.
Okay, first question from Dusty Springfield, Cat.
When is Nickyloob opening?
This is an easy one for you, Nick.
When is Nickyloob opening?
I just got my EIN very recently.
So as a business, it is technically open.
However, we're still working on the business plan to decide what we want to do.
There is March.
Thank you for wearing it, by the way.
Yeah, Nikki Loeb forever.
I just hung it up in my closet after washing.
It's my shirt.
It's in the mail.
I didn't get a shirt.
But yeah, so far it's just a lifestyle brand.
Do you have Nickyloob.com?
Yeah.
And actually I configured the Shopify website
to show up on Nickylob.
It's legit.
And pull it up.
I got some great images going.
So, you know, this guy's selling an SLR
and he looks like that.
I'd buy that.
Oh, wow.
So there's, wait, wait, wait.
We got Kuzis, Airfresh,
Okay, we're showing the stuff.
Okay.
We're showing this.
stuff. This is great. That one moves
when you click on it. That one moves when you click on it. Go down.
I want to see the, I want to see the O4 Rich.
I'll get some other merch. Yeah.
Okay, you chose the cars that you, uh, that you, that you have.
Yeah, that shirt's not that great. Which, uh, which AI tool did you use to
design these? Yeah. But Nikki, Nicky,
Nicky Loop is, is sort of an original design. But, so Nikki Loop, I honestly, I still
think that there is a viable market for a European-focused oil change place. However,
I am not the person to do this. I have a real job. I know, I know,
people find that hard to believe. I have gainful employment that, thankfully, is good enough to
afford some cool cars, so I'm not going to be opening up a quick loop anytime soon.
You know what I like about you, Nick, is how authentic you are to yourself. You have your product
shots on your website, and you didn't think of ironing your shirt or washing it or anything.
Or like getting a model or doing it somewhere other than a poorly lit garage.
Doug's freaking out the other day over apostrophies and typos, and it's like, you know what, I'm not
AI bot. All right, I'm a human and I make mistakes. And you're magging us. You're
mugging us in the hat photo. I like that. I was speaking of mugging. We do have merch.
orghumids.com. Oh my God, Felipe's here. Merch.cd.cars and bids.com. Don't buy any of that
Nicky Lou Crap. Listen, these shirts are actually really nice. Unlike mine.
They're really nice. And those are these light sweaters that he's wearing. I took these
photos. Mine are on the cheapest cotton ever produced by like illegal child labor. And these
are like nice to wear.
Nick is,
Nick is marked up his as much as possible.
That's my chin.
Yes, that's a nice chin.
We do think, and I would like the audience to weigh in,
but we think Ryan Lopez airbrushed himself
in some of these photos.
His skin's just a little too smooth, a little too glowy.
You know, I don't know what it is.
Some guys just got it.
They can use 10 in one and their skin.
It looks good.
What's your skincare regimen?
All right, I'll walk you through it.
So there's a- Okay, we're gonna move on to the next question.
This question is directed at me,
but I'm gonna ask it to all of you,
from fast-
Dear Doug, what is some life advice you would tell your 23-year-old self?
Nick, take yourself back to age 23.
Obviously, things have worked out beautifully for you since then.
But tell us, what would you tell your 23-year-old self in order to get to this level where you are?
Honestly, that's a tough one because I'm generally of the opinion of like,
I don't have a ton of regrets because you learn from your mistakes, right?
So it's like, okay, if I could go back and change things other than like killing
baby Hitler. There's like not a lot that I would change because I learned from it and it defined
who I am. My biggest regret is alcohol. I have since stopped drinking, but like in my 20s, I drank
way too much and I think I would have been more successful in my career, my relationships, et cetera,
if I didn't have that constant distraction. This is real. This is real. That would be my real advice.
Otherwise, I would just say like work hard. Like the 20s is when you like, you think you're really
busy in your 20s and like, no offense anyone in their 20s, but like, you're like, oh, I'm so stressed.
life is so hard, and then you realize that doesn't get easier, you get more responsibility.
I now wax nostalgic about how carefree life was, but at the time I thought every email I got
was like, make or break for my career.
Like I was so stressed about it.
And maybe it was.
I think you got to lean into your career because that is a time in your life where you can,
but like also like just try to keep some perspective there.
Like life will only get more difficult.
You're aware that, by the way, that we're giving you this advice.
So that's his advice to you.
And don't buy a model three.
Because I'm 23 years old.
Yes.
Have some headaches.
Sort of.
My advice for 23-year-old Ryan Lopez is the partner you choose will be the most important choice you ever make.
So choose wisely.
That is good advice.
And I mean that with unbelievable sincerity.
And I hope you really think it through.
You're really looking deep into my soul here.
And I hope others think it through as well.
Doug and I were fortunate to marry up and I agree.
My wife makes me a better person every day.
You're the one we're giving the advice to.
I'm 31.
23 was a long time ago.
Yeah, but you're 23 in spirit.
And so, like, we are giving you the advice.
I would have said buy stocks or something.
You agree we're giving him the advice.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
Next question.
Keep doing what you're doing, though.
Thank you.
No.
Choose the right partner.
And not just someone who you think is a smoke show in your terminology.
Oh, my God.
Choose a very complete partner who is great in
all facets.
Okay, next question.
From...
There's some really good questions this week,
probably because we didn't post him in the comments.
So we didn't get the reference.
Next question from Osprey.
Dear Doug, in Hoovey's latest video,
he attributes an email from him to you,
eventually jump-starting his fame
and his career
and eventually to him even meeting his
smokeshow supermodel wife, Ryan Lopez.
Did he say that?
Yes. Do you take credit for changing his life?
Yeah.
Next question.
Listen, who owes me everything?
It's well documented.
Why do you think he comes on here?
He doesn't care.
He doesn't care about us.
He's not doing it because he wants to hang out with Nick Stafford.
He's doing it because I changed his life and he owes me everything he has.
Let me tell you something.
When he's out there in rural Kansas and a pronghorn gallops into his beautiful multi-acre property,
he thinks to himself, man, this never would have.
happened if it wasn't for done. A what? Gallopsin? A pronghorn. Pull up, let's do, since
Hoovie's been mentioned, don't you think we should look at his car lot? Pull up, pull up,
pull up whoofy's car. Let's see what he's got for six. I have to say, to plug his,
his Hoopty Lot YouTube channel is so enjoyable to watch. I've always wondered what it would be
like to be a used car sales operation. Yeah. And he captures every moment. He goes to the auction,
and he's like filming like I would and like, pull up his lot, the website. Going on test drives and
like seeing like, oh, this thing's got like a cigarette burn in it.
Like, it is so cool to see how it all goes.
No, no, this isn't it.
Yeah, click there, click there.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Loopi lot.
All right, what do we got these?
By the way, someone told them, and I'm very annoyed if it was you, audience member.
Someone told him that we do this, that we go in the pod into his used car lot.
And we need to keep it up now.
Well, now we do.
Okay, here's a 10 escalate, 7 grand for this 10 escalate ESV.
That seems like a pretty damn good deal.
You should buy that instead of a model three.
It's a two-wheel drive and it's got 157,000 miles.
And we did just talk.
about how the 6.2-liter V8s in these cars explode.
But it made it pretty far.
You can get a good $6,000 of value out of it.
Here's an off-rential tracks, front-wheel drive off-rentail tracks for nine.
I tell you something, you want to do a drive-by?
This is the car for you.
That Kian actually is for 12-995.
My Kyan just sold on the site for a little bit more than that.
Mine was a GTS, but that is amazing daily, if you really needed an SUV.
Now we're talking.
That SC-430, April Rose had a great video on that one.
17,5, 110,000 miles?
Ubi's asking a little strong there.
That vet is what he should get.
The vet.
Put a Kenwood in there, you're good.
You get the vet from, he wants,
you want Ryan Lopez to buy that.
That's a good daily.
You'd have to shoot me in the head before I buy an automatic C6.
We might have to shoot you in the head anyway.
You buy a Model 3.
He's over here talking bad on auto C6s.
He's trying to get a model 3.
Oh, I got a long range, though.
No, you don't understand.
It's the stealth performance.
It has the upgrades from the performance,
but it's not.
This is only...
You don't understand.
It's very cool.
It's very cool.
Go back up.
What else we got on here?
You should be thinking
about some of these cars.
Go to the edge.
Go to the Ford Edge at the top.
All right.
$8,000 buys you this?
Yeah.
Nick.
It's a lot of car for the money.
You know what I wish, honestly?
I wish I was 16 again.
Trying to buy my first car.
The cars today that you can buy
for what I spent on my first car
are so much better than the trash.
And I knew it was trash then.
Well, channeling the inner Philippo
to plug.
cars and bids and related properties.
Cars and friends, every week we go over,
the cars we'd like to buy at each price point,
including a sub 10K range.
And that was exactly, I know it's a little privilege,
but that was my budget for my first car, $10,000.
And to your point, the cars that I was looking at was like,
oh, this one doesn't have airbags.
Yeah, like, that'll be fine.
Like, I'll walk it off.
Like, now it's like, we bought my first car for this.
240 horsepower, that was like a,
that would win, like, drag nights at hot import.
Totally.
Absolutely.
You know what I mean?
You know what I mean?
would have laid down a 17 at Bannamere Speedway when I was a kid in Denver,
and it would have been among the faster cars.
That cost of wouldn't be able to chase them.
We would just leave them.
Is this escalate?
Are you kidding for seven?
That's what we spent on my first car.
403 horsepower.
400 horsepower, big old escalade.
Yeah.
We spent $6,500, $6,500 to buy my first car which was a Volvo 850, total trash,
unbelievably awful to own in terms of reliability.
I could have had, in today's world, I could have this edge.
Yeah.
I could have that drive-by tracks.
Hovey.
Hovey really
you can clean the headlight
in that F-150.
But other than that,
Hoovie's got the good stuff
this week, folks.
You've got to watch
his content in all seriousness.
All of his channels
have been just firing
on all cylinders,
but the Hoopte-E-Lat channel
that he launched,
I just,
I find to be the most
entertaining YouTube channel
currently on air.
Nick,
Hoovey's the best.
Next question for...
You know, I asked him
to comment on my SLR auction.
I just said,
hey, no obligation,
no pressure.
But just like,
if you leave
like a nice,
to bury some of my poorly crafted comments
that I didn't proofread correctly.
And instead of commenting, he sends me a 30 second long video
and goes, edit this for me and post me
and tag me as a collab and like went way above and beyond.
I'm like, bro, I didn't even think,
like I thought you might even be mad at me for selling it.
And instead, you're like really helping me out,
like such a generous guy.
Whoop he's real?
That's why I jumpstart his career.
You're welcome.
Um, okay.
Next question from Alex De Las Casas.
Cossas.
Question for Doug, would you ever manual swap your AMG wagon?
Follow the footsteps.
You've walked into a bit of a can of worms.
Everybody's manually swapping these AMG cars now, and I've owned a lot of these cars.
Oh, boy.
And I just don't get it.
I think that these cars were not intended to be manuals.
They don't dry.
They're high-horsepower, big V8 cars.
They're great for Autobahn cruising.
The most fun you have in these cars is you drop the hammer.
at 60 and go up to 120.
And that's what they're incredible at.
And to me, a good manual car is a downshift
in a corner into second and punch out, you know?
And I just don't understand the need to manual swap these cars.
People are doing it to all these cars
that just aren't better with manuals.
And there's an enthusiast theory
that everything is better than manual.
I don't agree.
I think there's some cars that are actually better as automatic.
And I think these big body high horsepower,
non-stressed V8 AMG cars are better as automatic.
Okay, then you would apply that to an E60M-5,
every sedan with over 500.
No, the E-6DM-5 is a high-strung power train.
And honestly, it steers and handles considerably better
than an equivalent Mercedes-AmG car.
That car was more of an athlete and deserves,
by the way, the manual in that car is not the best.
But that car was more than a manual transmission
if that's what you want to do.
These Mercedes are not athletic cars.
Why give an athletic transmission?
You know what?
You know what they're makes them.
Soft, slow torque and on athletic is their crappy automatic transmission.
I drove an E-55 before buying mine in an automatic, and I walked away,
literally said to the group to head, wow, am I underwhelmed?
The power is so low, it was hard to keep in the power range.
Like, it felt like such a boring car.
And now that it's manual, the main reason I'm selling my SLR is because I like my manual swap wagon
so much that I'm grabbing the keys to it because I'd rather row my own gears in a station wagon
than have an automatic in a sports car.
It depends on what your use case is.
Nick is an auto guy.
He's only a one manual.
He's deep auto.
Daily driving.
What am I, a supra?
He's deep, deep, deep auto.
I'm trying to fix that.
For me, the family car that we're going out to the fun park.
The Sequoia.
You take, no, I haven't driven the Sequoia in four months.
One month now, I guess.
You take the AMG wagon and you blast down the highway.
And you're not rolling all these gears.
My car doesn't make any of those noises.
You get your macho in one hand, you get the stick on the other.
Well, the beauty of the car hobby, and I was thinking about this a lot the other day,
is that everyone is a little different.
Yeah.
And your car is an expression of who you are.
It is.
And you are a purist.
You only like cars the way the factory made them.
That is fine.
That is your prerogative.
Some people like to do crazy mods to cars.
Some people like tasteful mods.
Some people drive a model three for no reason.
Like, everyone is a little different.
I have a very good reason.
I have...
Look, the reason is that.
that people are doing so many of these AMG swaps
is because they're really fun cars otherwise
and that Trans was holding it back.
And frankly, it's like you're using all factory components.
Like, I don't, you got to drive the CLK-63 Black Series
at the DC.
That's a different car.
That's a sports car.
That's a true sports car.
And a manual would liven that car up.
I actually think a manual would liven up a nice SLK AMG too.
CTSV wagon, not particularly athletic.
Those were athletic cars.
It's dog S-H-I-T as an automatic
and it is only desirable as a manual.
The difference between the...
I owned a V-Wagon, and I've owned every AMG wagon.
And the difference between those cars was,
the V-Wagon was an athlete that became a wagon,
and the AMGs were just wagons that they tried to make athletic.
The Vs are actually...
The V-2, especially, is a really dynamically good car.
It had the Magna ride.
It was a really nice car.
That was a 500-60s.
Really nice inside, yeah.
Well, but we're talking about the driving...
It's a manual transmission.
That car deserved a manual.
I agree to disagree in the sense that I think the car is driving.
dramatically better as a manual, and I have zero regrets doing it.
But you are purist, and you have a bias towards how the factory did it, and that's fine.
No, I just, I believe that the cars have a feel and that a manual doesn't make every car better.
Would a 4C be better with the manual?
Yes.
Would an 8C be better?
I think every car is better with the manual.
Unless you are just looking for an appliance.
I have a theory.
Big trucks, SUVs?
You think you'd rather be driving a manual escalate?
I'd rather have...
I'd rather have a manual D90 than an automatic, even though the automatics are more desirable.
represents a majority of the internet that sees
when I make a post on Facebook or Instagram
for cars and bids and some the not the
manual variant, auto trash
are like, auto tragic and they just
like all the, a lot of hate comes by and I'm thinking
oh like, well, you have the same card
manual then, you must, but no, they don't.
The reality is that everybody has an opinion
and the internet enthusiast community is so ingrained that
everything with manual is better and the reality is that's not the case.
Now do I want to M2 that's manual? Yes,
because that's what that card does for me,
but the DCT is still
really damn good. Anything with
ZF still really damn good.
Fourth of the Scooteria, the twin, whatever,
is it, twin clutch or a single clutch?
No, those are single clutch. Single clutch, but that is the most fun
automatic transmission. Yeah, I'd put a manual on that, though.
Oh, then that would be something.
Now that, I've obviously ruffled
Knicks feathers, and I've got another ruffler coming.
All right. All right. That's our last question.
Are you going to be wrong again?
From Joshua Duffy Photo.
For Doug and other dads,
I'm having my third child on October 2nd,
so am I. She'll be coming home
in our Kia Carnival.
Ooh, nice.
What fun car should I get to compliment the van,
but still will have three,
still fit three child seats?
We can answer three child seats,
but I want to talk about three rows real quick.
I've decided that there's only two
cool three row cars.
That's probably generous.
There are two cool, three row cars in the whole world.
Is it two?
Can I guess one?
Yeah.
Is it the LX-700 overtrow?
Are you talking new cars only?
Okay, fine, there's four.
No, not.
Not new only.
Okay.
Alex Overtrails one.
Okay.
E55 wagon.
But only my body, not your body.
Oh, give me a break.
Give me a break.
You're insane.
What is wrong with you?
That's 210E55 wagon is another one.
That's right.
Not 211.
Okay.
R63.
Okay.
And 100 series land cruiser.
And that's it.
That's all.
Those are the only four fun cars with three rows of seats that have ever existed
and probably will ever exist.
Feel free to think of another one.
Model X plaid?
Or did we say fun or cool?
If we said cool, then not that.
But if we said fun, yeah, that's pretty appealing.
Rivian R1S?
Same distinction, fun versus cool.
Yeah, yeah, fair.
Yeah, I mean, there's the new defender.
I think you can get with the third row as well.
Those are cool.
Yeah, not very fun.
They're around.
You get a full-size range, too, with a long-wheel base
and a third-row option.
Yeah, pretty cool.
You get a Pacifica.
So the theme of cars and friends, which we're going to film after this, is the coolest wagons at each price point.
So there will be some three-row options in there besides the ones that you mentioned.
And we'll correct some of your alternative facts with some of those.
You know, I do think that my S-210 might be a little better with a puffer on it.
Okay.
Is that the end or do you want one more, Nick?
Let's do one more.
Okay.
Not ruffle his feathers.
Let's free you back.
Yeah.
Okay.
One more that Nick can love us for.
A nice one.
that Nick can love us for.
And then a good note.
Oh, from Julian Evans, oh God, this is actually a feather ruffler.
From Julian Evans, 9548, question for Nick,
why didn't you just buy a one or two-year-old car?
Whether the Volvo or the Kia, this is genuinely confusing to me,
as people know what a waste of money a new car is,
and a one-year-old car would still be reliable,
have a warranty, et cetera.
I know.
I agree.
Oh, my God.
We made so many bad decisions.
That's not true.
I should have got...
An XC-90 that was one or two years old was probably the move.
The problem was every mom in our neighborhood drives the pre-face lift,
and we just couldn't do it.
It was like, it's completely irrational.
It's not based on any, like, facts or figures.
This is Mr. Internet here.
Every car has you manual, and I can't have anything that anyone else has.
I know.
Because the moms in the neighborhood are driving it.
All of the moms drive XC90s.
Because the moms know what's up.
That's a great car.
But the reason...
I want to be clear, though.
The reason you did...
get the plug-in Sorrento is it didn't exist before, right?
The new body style, you got the new body style, which just came out, right?
Right, I think it came at 2025, but yeah.
There weren't, like, year-old ones that would have been any cheaper.
And, I mean, we're already buying a Kia, like I used Kia.
I don't know.
I, we regret a lot in that decision-making.
The car's been great.
I actually drove it to Arizona last week back-to-back.
I drove to Arizona one day from Arizona, so I spent about 12 hours in the car in the matter
of two days.
Wow.
I do say having a new car is nice in the sense of the adaptive cruise, which I've never had before, the lane keep assist.
I was able to, I both got there and back a lot more refreshed than I did in a cayenne where I had to do a lot of more stuff myself.
If you end up with anything less than a hundred series land cruiser, I will never speak to you again.
You know what's interesting is I thought about, I thought about giving my lease back and John, beloved John, who works here, has a 100,
series Land Cruiser that he hasn't driven because he just bought a newer Lexus SUV.
And he's like, just take it.
Take it and see if you like it.
And maybe I'll drive it for a few weeks to see if I like it.
That's the greatest motor toy that ever made.
A lot better than that trash on the GMC Yukons.
Goodbye, everyone.
