This Paranormal Life - The Ghost Rockets of 1946

Episode Date: October 6, 2026

In the summer of 1946, people across Sweden began witnessing strange fiery objects fall from the sky and crash to earth. When locals gathered at the sites of impact, they discovered that in the middl...e of each smouldering crater was… nothing. No debris. No wreckage. It was as if nothing had crashed at all. Before long newspapers across the country were writing articles about the phenomenon known as “The Ghost Rockets”. Get your tickets to our London Live Show! Starting point is 00:00:00 In the summer of 1946, people across Scandinavia began to panic when strange objects started falling from the sky and crashing to Earth. When the locals gathered at the sites of impact, they were met with one of the strangest UFO mysteries in paranormal history. In the middle of each smoldering crater was nothing. No debris, no wreckage. It was as if nothing had crash landed at all. Before long, newspapers across the country were writing articles about the phenomenon. known as Ghost Rockets. But why were there rockets crashing into Sweden when the Second World War had already ended? Were these really rockets? And if they were, why was there nothing to recover at the crash sites?
Starting point is 00:00:43 Are there other salads named after famous Roman dictators? Or is it just Chicken Caesar? All of these questions you can find the answer to on THIS paranormal Live! Hello everybody and welcome back to This Paranormal Life, the Con. Paranormal Life, the comedy, Paranormal Podcast, where every week, me, Rory, Him Kit, investigated brand new paranormal tale and decide whether or not we believe it is a yes or a no. We are so excited to be with you guys because guess what?
Starting point is 00:01:15 Have you checked the calendar? Do you know what date it is? We just entered spooky season. Oh, fuck your doors. All right, the elves are coming. This is their time. They've been waiting a long time. the darkness underneath inside the Hall of Earth.
Starting point is 00:01:31 You're thinking of Christmas. The elves come, that's not spooky season. The elves come at Christmas. Oh, right. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You were like, get your tinsel ready. It's spooky season.
Starting point is 00:01:42 I was like, no, no. Sorry, yeah, my holiday isn't it? Spooky season. Sorry, sorry. Spooky season, okay. Lock your doors because the son of God, he's about to rise. Easter. That's Easter. That's Easter.
Starting point is 00:01:54 That's Easter. Spooky season. Just lock your doors. How about that? Just log it or something's not coming. Something's common. Listen, can we start today's case, please? Because if you couldn't tell, if you're watching the video right now,

Starting point is 00:03:01 No, that's not true. That last drive is going to fill up this thing. Don't even... Don't say 10% and 3%. Don't even go on the website. Don't even try and find seats last minute. You know, I would say a while ago we were maybe halfway there. So I would say, hey, well, let's just say last tickets available right now.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Because then I think we're hedging our bets. There probably are some tickets available. Check it out. It's not too late. Starting point is 00:04:13 Terms and conditions apply. Our story today begins on the morning of July 19th. My birthday, but not in 1991, back in 1946. Birthday reveal? A farmer named Nutland Back. Hadn't actually read his name out loud. So let's get all the jokes out of the way now early. As in Boston?
Starting point is 00:04:37 All right, let's just get into it. Nut Lindbach was working near Lake Kornjav in northern Sweden when he heard something shooting past him in the night sky. At first it sounded like a distant aircraft, which nowadays sure isn't a big deal, but a reminder, this was 1946, the Second World War had only just ended a year ago, so a plane flying overhead could hypothetically mean
Starting point is 00:05:03 you're about to get obliterated by a Nazi. Nut looked up towards the sky, expecting to see a plane, but instead he saw something otherworldly. According to the reports, the object was small, gray, and around two meters long. It was narrow, possibly with little wings. It is not confirmed.
Starting point is 00:05:24 What the... But crucially, it was moving with a buzzing, motor-like sound. Now, because of the nature of this podcast, you might be going straight to some kind of hyper-intelligent UFO, and I can't blame you for doing that. But this next part might shock you. This motherfucker shot down towards the earth and crashed into a lake. Which is not something we see a lot in our UFO cases.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Usually if there's an object in the sky, it's smart enough to keep its distance, remain in the shadows, stay elusive. This thing is doing the opposite. It's flying about like a little metal B and it lost control of itself and slammed into a lake. Or did it lose control? We don't know. Lock your doors because, well, what I always start to worry is that this is a war of the world situation and they are coming down in order to, no easy way to say it, take over. This is an invasion. They land down and then you're like, whoa, what was that? It's silent for a second. and then you hear
Starting point is 00:06:25 detecting human life forms. And they've got a minigone attached to them for some... You know, they... Yeah. It's like a little spider drone, you know? Because that's how we get to other planets as a human civilization. We drop kind of a...
Starting point is 00:06:42 We have a satellite and then it drops like a rover and it lands and then wally starts rolling around Mars. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, very true. And look, even though we're sending sort of like a piece probe that's there to just examine the city, there's a chance we could send it down and it just go straight into an alien's house.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Yeah. And as far as they know, they're like, they've just sent a missile down to attack us. Kid, I like how big you're thinking today already in today's case. Yes. It's straight to war of the worlds. Because today's story, listen, on this podcast, what we are here to do is to tell a story and you and I decide at the end whether or not we believe, it is a yes or it is a no, whether it's truly paranormal or it's not paranormal.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Usually we wait to the end of the podcast to reach our conclusion, but I thought today we could change things up a little. And that's why I created this. Wow. I have just revealed in front of Kit a whiteboard that I am affectionately referring to from now on as the believabila board. On one side, there is no. On the other side, there is a yes,
Starting point is 00:07:56 and we have a thin sliver running down the middle called The Fence. Don't love that I am being accused of being a fence sitter. Well, I assumed at this point you would be on the fence. I didn't know we'd already be making robot noises and talking about alien invaders. It's safe to say Kit is probably edging a little bit, maybe towards the Yes territory, but I do not control the Kit sticker on the wall.
Starting point is 00:08:21 That is for him to control. And I want you to freely feel comfortable updating the slider as we move through today's episode. Would you like to remain on the fence at this point in our story? Object crashed down from the sky, freaked out a nut. I've been, to use an analogy, I've kind of been sitting on the fence. And then maybe, you know, an ice cream van is driven by. Okay. And I'm pondering it.
Starting point is 00:08:47 But the ice cream van hasn't specifically solved on my street yet. So I'm kind of one leg over the fence. You're going to be careful. The believable aboard is fragile, so please be incredibly careful. There you go. Okay. So I'm like, I'm kind of, you know, objects crash landing from space. I'm one leg over the fence, but I'm still essentially on the fence.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Okay. That's pretty good. I'm just realizing now. I'm hungry for ice cream. Just realizing now his name is probably Newt. Not. Nut. But I think we're going to continue with nut.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Okay. Let's continue with our story and see if we can move. Kit further into the Yes territory. Nut watched in awe as the object collided with the surface of the lake, shooting a huge column of water up into the air. Waves crashed to the shore as mud, weeds, and debris clouded up the once clear lake. Whatever this strange object was, it sank to the bottom. And none of this was silent, by the way, like a lot of our other UFO cases.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Nut says he heard what sounded like a thunder clap, as this thing came down and crashed into the earth. Geez. Yeah. Maybe we are in Scandinavia. It could be Thor's hammer. Now, Nut is left standing there and really not knowing what to do, but luckily, he doesn't have to do anything.
Starting point is 00:10:04 By that afternoon, local police and Home Guard personnel are already on the site, cordoning off the lake until the government could get there. Which is always what we love to see in these stories when half of a country's military shows up to a paranormal event and says nothing to see here. Yeah. You know, like Apache helicopters have come in from New York City. And there's like guys with armed guns slamming it into the backs of civilians. And they're like, just a weather balloon, folks.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Please go back to your homes. Yeah. There's a truck leaving with a tarp and like tentacles poking up the bottom of it. Yeah. We're here to chaperone the scientists who are going to study how little there is going on here. They're trying to find what's going on. with an electron microscope and they can't see anything. And we're trying to give them some space.
Starting point is 00:10:53 It's like all of the witnesses are totally fine and they've all been sent home. Commence Operation Crack the Nut. The next morning, a man named Lieutenant Carl Gosta Bartol arrived with his team and began investigating the site. Let me tell you, it didn't take long for them to confirm that something had landed in the lake. The bottom of the lake appeared to be violently disturbed. plants and grass had been ripped up, mud had been thrown around, and in some versions of the story, the water was still bubbling. Whoa. Yeah, that feels important.
Starting point is 00:11:29 Because if it's in some versions of the story, it should be in all the versions of the story. If it's bubbling down there. Yeah, this thing crashed on like an intergalactic tablet of Barocca. It's turned the whole lake fizzi. I'm intrigued as to the size of this thing, because it would give us an indication of how you where it's come from? I think nuts said two meters. Oh, two meters?
Starting point is 00:11:53 Two meters. This one, this object. Because that makes me think it ain't necessarily common directly from space. Because did you know? And I don't know if this is true. But apparently, whenever you see like a shooting star, something burning up in the atmosphere, like a shooting star, that looks streak, it's, that is a piece of matter about the size of like a grain of sand or something. Yes. I think that is right, that it's, that's a grain of sand entering our atmosphere.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Or an object that's small, yeah. And then that doesn't sound right until, like me, you've seen, I think, space debris. I saw it reenter the atmosphere. I think I saw a satellite break up and enter. And I thought the world was ending. What did it look like? Oh, it was insane? It was, it was, it was like, I saw, I was like, oh, that looks like a shooting star.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Cool. Oh, that's a big shooting star. Then it burst into flames, like a Soyuz lander from an astronaut. He went like, and I thought the next thing that was going to happen was a tidal wave, a hundred meters high coming for me. I thought I was going to die. It's scary that.
Starting point is 00:13:03 I was drunk. A grain of sand, watching that come down is like, my God, it really is a beautiful universe we live in. When the satellite comes down, you're like, I think I need to murder suicide my family. I think before the apocalypse begins, it'd be better if we all died. Yeah. Because I don't want to live in the world that exists after this thing hits New York City.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Yeah, you see the shooting star and you're like, hey, Siri, please play fireflies by all city. You see the satellite re-entered. You're loading a rifle, tears in your eyes. You see the big one come in and you're like, I sure hope I have beans at home. because it's going to be a long dark nuclear winter with me fighting the few zombies left on this sick planet. You don't want to move yourself? You're fine there on the fence?
Starting point is 00:13:56 I'm good. Okay. It's fine. Don't take it to heart or anything. Yeah, just for having a really good chat about all these theories about objects coming for space. It sounds like you should be moving more towards the yes. I was just having a good back and forth and you just look to the board.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Really? Huh. You don't want to... Nothing? So that was a waste of time. Awesome. Bartol decided if something had landed in the lake, there was only one way anyone was going to find out what it was. They had to go down there and grab it.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Geez. Now this part of the story sounds insane, but you have to remember that this was 1946. Bartol and his men decided to build a raft for the research. And because they were using metal detecting equipment, they reportedly avoid voided nails and used hemp rope instead to tie wood together. Yeah, I'm getting a sense of how these guys like to operate. Hemp. Oh yeah, we're gonna be researching that intergalactic package, brother.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Phil, can we get the evidence up? Plee, plee, there we go, there's Bartol on his raft. That's a Swedish motherfucker look. Made of hemp rope and planks. You're also getting a shot here. This is a guy kind of on a very Huckleberry thin-ass raft. That's cool, man. Kind of floating around in the middle of this.
Starting point is 00:15:20 I mean, it's a big lake. You can kind of see the size of this thing. It's not a puddle. Yeah, this is the shit. This is the shit Odysseus rode back to his family with. He just flopped onto this craft and let the storms of Zeus carry him. Yeah. This is real DIY, which I guess, look, at this point in the story,
Starting point is 00:15:41 the big guns haven't turned up yet. literally. So this is kind of still a small investigation into whatever this object was. Nice. So Bartol and his men used metal detectors and various other types of equipment to probe the bottom of the lake and see if they could find anything. They reportedly took thousands of samples and looked for oil, debris, radioactivity, any sign that the metal object had buried itself in the mud. But after weeks of searching allegedly, No object was recovered. Nothing. At one point there was even a discussion of draining the lake, which was rejected as being too expensive.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Bro, get a old-timey scuba suit on and get down there. Just to update you on the board, I like everything that's happening, which is very believable. Move them to the end, boys. I can move you actually. No, I think it's just that nothing, we still have absolutely no idea would enter the lake. Yes. But can I counterpoint? Can I step in? Because I feel like you're going to move yourself to the no section.
Starting point is 00:16:47 So I want to step in before you touch your little... What do I feel like I'm being sold a timeshare? I just want you to listen, the point that there is nothing to find in the lake. That is the story. Do you understand? Do you understand the concept of a ghost rocket? This is what we're going to be getting into. Actually, no.
Starting point is 00:17:07 No one does. Not a combination of words. Not does. Yeah. No, it does. Feel free to move yourself if you want. This guy's office, new. If you want to move yourself, you have that right, sir.
Starting point is 00:17:20 I just explained I wasn't willing to move myself. I'm quite happy, quite. I like the idea that I set up this whole thing, explain the concept. We do the whole episode with you on the fence, and at the end you moved to know. It's like, all right, so the whole board was pointless. It's like, you know, you can move yourself.
Starting point is 00:17:43 I'm fine. Oh, what about now? No, I'm going to stay on the fence. Well, okay. Conclusions, it's a note. All right. F*** me for thinking the board might have accompanied a story that was more of an emotional roller coaster of opinion.
Starting point is 00:17:59 You, son of a bitch. Nothing has happened. Nothing's happened. Nut barely escaped with his life. He was almost a roasted peanut. How many pages were going to all that? So many. You're talking as if it's worryingly over in like one page. Kit is remaining on the fence for our audio listeners. Nothing has changed since the beginning.
Starting point is 00:18:22 I think the audience would agree with me. I said after weeks of searching, no object was recovered or was ever recovered from the site. Now look, this would be enough of a story if it was just an isolated incident. But Kit, today we're dealing with one of the strangest UFO flaps in Earth's history. You see, in that summer of 1946, all across Sweden and other Nordic regions, people reported seeing fast-moving lights, cigar-shaped objects, wingless missiles, glowing projectiles, and strange rockets shooting across the sky. But every time one of them crashed to Earth and people went to the sight of impact, there was nothing there. Eventually, the newspapers gave them the name Ghost Rockets. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Do you. Has that done anything to illuminate the concept of a ghost rocket to you? Yes. Great. Sure. The origin of it. That's good. And your sticker on the board? I really am starting to resent the sticker. Because it feels like you're just going to keep asking me about it. You have the freedom to move or not move. Okay, you know what? You know what? You want me to move the sticker?
Starting point is 00:19:37 I can mentally check in to where the sticker should be with where we are in the story Based on the tone of your voice I don't want you to move the sticker I don't want you to move it. Okay I think that's... Yeah, that feels good actually. He's moved it to no.
Starting point is 00:19:51 It feels good. Yeah. Hey, that's fair. It's hard for me to convince you a case is real when part of the concept is that there is no evidence of any of it. But this is a ghost rocket, guys. All right? To understand why,
Starting point is 00:20:07 the Ghost Rockets were such a concern, we need to talk a little more about the vibe in 1946. As I said earlier, the Second World War had just ended, but that doesn't mean that the world was back to normal. As we know, the biggest technological breakthrough in the Second World War was something called the V2 rocket. So obviously this is where everyone's head went when the Ghost Rockets started turning up. It's important to mention in today's case because the big fear was that if the V2 rockets were still being fired across Sweden, I mean the question is who's doing it if the war has ended?
Starting point is 00:20:44 And what is their motivation behind it? Unfortunately, as more and more of the objects were cited, the mystery only deepened. During the following days and weeks, more reports came in from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland. Some witnesses saw bright moving lights, others described missile-like shapes or cigar objects crashing to earth. In some cases, before crashing, the objects moved slowly, flew horizontally, traveled and maneuvered in formation. Should I pause?
Starting point is 00:21:19 Do you want to move the sticker on the board? No, we're just... They maneuvered... You can actually stop asking me full stop. They maneuvered information and even appeared to be silent as they flew. The sightings continued through the summer and by July, the ghost rockets had become,
Starting point is 00:21:35 national concern kit if you want to know how bad this got at its peak between May and December of 1946 about 2,000 ghost rockets were spotted wow oh you know what I think we this might actually call for a little bit of a hello so let's just he's back on the fence yes I would go as far to say I never thought I'd be so happy for to say you know okay the ice cream truck is on the street The truck is on the street. We're actually, you know, we're kind of within like hopping distance.
Starting point is 00:22:11 We could hop back up on the fence if we wanted. I like this. We're actually in the yard. Yes. All right. Well, this is slightly worrying because I do, this teased us up to our next piece of evidence. Okay. I don't know how that's going to affect the sticker.
Starting point is 00:22:25 Phil, show me the ghost rocket. This is possibly one of the only confirmed photographs ever taken of a ghost rocket in flight. for our audio listeners. This is a photograph, kind of of a landscape. It's pretty far away, but crucially at the very, very top, up in the sky, it appears to be daytime, but you can't see an object that looks like it is falling out of the sky. It's coming down almost like a meteor to Earth. In a shoot and stark, that's for sure. It's like a fireball. It's... Yeah. Yeah. This is like what I saw before it... This was the point right before I pissed my pants. this is the moment before it really ignited where I was like, is not a shoot?
Starting point is 00:23:09 That is too big to be a shooting star. Oh my God, we're all going to die. You know, it was like it ignited after this point. So it's bigger than a shooting star. That is for sure. Which does score me some points because I don't know how many satellites were up in space in 1946. So there shouldn't be a lot of objects coming out of the sky like this.
Starting point is 00:23:28 Yeah. Yeah. You're worried that if you were seeing this, taking this photo at this point in history, you're worried you're going to be. speaking in German in about two weeks time. Okay, I was really worried that showing you this photo was going to move you straight to the no section of the board. So this is going better than I thought it was. Well, as I say, as someone who's seen some ship bursting in the flames in the sky, at this time period, it's, you know, it's not nothing.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Not nothing. Now, here comes maybe the strangest part of this entire story, which I actually think you are going to like, Kit. Whenever one of these objects crashes to Earth, almost every single one, of the ghost rockets went into a lake. Interesting. There were even reports of the objects or crafts, quote unquote, propelling themselves across the surface before sinking. What? Oh, I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:24:18 I thought you would like it because it is something that we've discussed in the world of USOs. Yeah. An unidentified, submergeable object. That's why I don't like it, because I do like it. I don't like it because it's believable. It is funny that these creatures, came down to Earth and the first person they interacted with was a guy called Nut. Yeah. Which is really disappointing because then we have to tell them it's like, they're like, we've met so many humans, nut.
Starting point is 00:24:46 And we're like, yeah, look, you guys should know that's not normal. You met like the one weird guy in this whole place. He said he was your leader. King Nut. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not our leader. Now, we've covered a lot of USO stories on the podcast before. I think we can both agree the most important, unbelievable case of this happened in 1967 in a small fishing village in Nova Scotia called Shag Harbor. Crazy to think some people listening might not know what that is about.
Starting point is 00:25:17 We actually did a whole episode on it you're going to want to listen to. But in that case, the Shag Harbor UFO incident, four orange lights flashed in sequence and dived towards the water in the bay. Witnesses described hearing a whistling sound and a lot of. out, bang, just like nut. And witnesses also said that an object floated briefly on the ocean surface before sinking into the water. And when rescue teams and the Coast Guard dive down to investigate, they found nothing. Are we seeing some parallels here?
Starting point is 00:25:50 I don't know. Wait, what year was Shag Harbor again? 1967. Well, hey, while we're talking about years, and I don't know if you're going to bring this up, Rory, but 1946 is an extremely fit full time in the world of UFOs. Because it's more or less the birth of UFO research and study. Yeah. I will talk about it a little bit later in the podcast about how important it is that all of this is happening when it's happening. Because at this point, crazy to think about,
Starting point is 00:26:24 but flying saucers are not a thing yet. They're about to be. They're about to be very, very soon, but they're not in pop culture. This isn't the third. thing people talk about, maybe loosely people will talk about kind of sky people or aliens, but it's not, this isn't a normal thing, this is very rare. Mm-hmm. Now, obviously, when people start seeing 2,000 rockets shooting across the sky during peacetime, that becomes a big enough concern that the rest of the world needs to get involved. So they did.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Within months, the US Air Force and British Army units were involved in the mystery, and after After a long investigation, there were a few theories as to what these ghost rockets were. So why don't I run through them? Our first theory is meteors. Some investigations claimed that many of the ghost rocket sightings were caused by meteors, which sure is an option. Scientists point to the fact that the peak activity took place on the 9th and 11th of August 1946, which also happens to be the peak of the annual meteor shower that takes place around that time.
Starting point is 00:27:33 However, you should know that most ghost rocket sightings did not occur during the media shower activity. And also, a reminder, these things were moving up there. They weren't just coming straight down. They were doing tricks. And when they came down, they went like this. Like, you have to remember that. That was a kit theory. That was straight from this nut. over here, not from my nut.
Starting point is 00:27:57 I want that to be very clear in the podcast, but hey, if it keeps you in the yes territory, I'm happy for it. The second main theory, a logical one at least, was that these weren't ghost rockets, they were actually just real rockets being fired. In 1946, the public conclusion by the Swedish military was that the ghost rockets came from a former German rocket facility
Starting point is 00:28:21 and were tests conducted by the Soviets, who basically found a bunch of, of unused wartime missiles. Interesting. So from Russia. From, yeah. Russian soil. Or Russians at a German rocket facility.
Starting point is 00:28:38 Yeah. Can they do that? At that time. What do you mean? Can they do that? Could they fire a missile from Germany? Nob, no. I think a lot of World War II was, quote unquote, not on. Bit rude.
Starting point is 00:28:55 You know, the problem is with a ghost rocket, people are saying that the missile hits the ground, and there's nothing there when it lands. I think for this explanation, they're like, there's obviously a ton of shit there, but the government comes in and takes everything so no one can recover the parts of a V2 rocket. Which makes sense, I guess. Keep him where he is. That's enough of logical conclusions. You're like, actually, all this talk of authorities coming in and restructuring. restricting people's access to assets is making me think, you're not allowed to touch the board anymore. That's actually a really good idea.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Yeah, I'm going to move quickly onto our paranormal explanations before we think too hard about the idea that the rockets... Why are you trying to convince me? Or rockets from the war that was just one year ago right in this general area. Why are you trying to convince me? You're like, yes, idiot. It could be real rockets. It almost certainly is.
Starting point is 00:29:55 I'm just doing my work as an investigator. I should be on the board too, all right? But I didn't want to crowd it. I wanted to give you your own space. The fun fact is Rory is on the board. He's just so far off the yes side that he's kind of in Germany, actually. You can't even see me.
Starting point is 00:30:12 Our fantasy commission says for him it's all about the friendships. Cute, Kevin. But I disagree. Like with bat three six five. I get paid the second my team goes up big with early payout and can cash out at any time before the game ends. No hard feelings, Kevin. Just faster payouts from Bet365.

Starting point is 00:30:45 that there's the public answer, and then there's the real answers. Then there's the public answer, then there's the... Mr. Over here. Answer. That's nuts. He missed the over year.
Starting point is 00:30:58 I didn't used to sound like this. It turns out there were a lot of conversations going on behind the scenes that have since been revealed in declassified documents that show that not everyone thought there was a logical explanation for these bad boys. For example, a top secret United States Air Force document from 1948 declassified only 30 years ago said that some investigators believed the Ghost Rocks, it's had quote extraterrestrial origins. I have a copy of that document. Show it to us, Phil. This is an actual photo copy of the document where they talk at length about these objects
Starting point is 00:31:41 being from another planet. I understand this is a pretty low-res copy and we have a lot of audio listeners, so I'm going to read out what it says in some paragraphs of this thing. For some time, concerned by the reoccurring reports of flying saucers. One was observed hovering over an air base for about 30 minutes. They've been reported by so many sources and from such a variety
Starting point is 00:32:05 of places that we are convinced that they cannot be disregarded and must be explained on some basis which is perhaps slightly beyond the scope of our present intelligence thinking. Some reliable and fully technically qualified people have reached the conclusion that these phenomena are obviously the result of a high technical skill which cannot be credited to any presently known culture on earth. The crazy thing is, this is real, the document that we're looking at right now. All of this part of the story is confirmed the US, UK and the Swedes all got involved in this mystery and had their government working together to try and crack the case of the ghost rockets. But sorry, but this is, but where's the bit of Sweden?
Starting point is 00:32:51 This is a US report investigating the rockets that are appearing in Scandinavia. But then what are they talking about when it's like hovering over a base? Yeah, that happened, I think. It just feels like we've gone from their, it was like, from what I understood, they were all going as fast as they could, squid game style into the nearest lake. And now we're hearing that they're actually, now they've got their binoculars out and they're hovering over an Air Force Base. I told you earlier they were maneuvering. They were floating. They were doing turns. They were flying in formation sometimes. I must have not been listening for that because I don't
Starting point is 00:33:32 remember any formation. I remember none of that. We're going to go back and look at the footage. It just felt like kids' eyes are just glazed over while I'm explaining all of this. But I'm wrong, but it feels like we spent a lot of time specifically with nut. How many times we said the word nut? And then and then you're telling me that actually None of that shit actually really matters. It's best that we just focus on the ones that are floating over Air Force Base. Several pages ago. In some cases, the objects moved slowly, flew horizontally,
Starting point is 00:34:03 traveled and maneuvered in formation, and even appeared to be silent. And went straight into a lake. And then a lot of them did go... Yeah, but nothing about them hovering over Air Force Base. I said when they crashed into the Earth, many of them went into lakes. That's fine. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Hey, I'm just... Hey, I'm just coming down hard on you, because I'm trying to get to the truth here. I appreciate it. I really do. It's a bear of suppressing his rage. I appreciate it. I haven't moved.
Starting point is 00:34:30 As long as you stay on that side of the board. I mean, this is good stuff. Yeah. This is good stuff. But believe it or not, the U.S., UK, and Swedes weren't the only one getting involved in the mystery. The Greek government also conducted their own investigation. Because guess what? This shit was showing up in Greece, too.
Starting point is 00:34:48 The Greek investigation was led by a physicist named Paul Santorini, who was given a team of engineers to help investigate the ghost rockets. But in the end, his conclusion wasn't what they expected. He said, we soon established that they were not missiles. But before we could do any more, the army, after conferring with foreign officials, ordered the investigation stopped. Foreign scientists from Washington flew to Greece for secret talks with me. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Now, we've talked a lot about the logical conclusions and the confirmed non-logical conclusions. But interestingly Kit, when you dig below the surface of this story, there's even more weird things that happened in Sweden when the ghost rockets were flying around. And this might secure your place in the yes territory on the board. Okay. Years later, residents in the area began sharing stories of the strange things they witnessed taking place around crash site investigations. They described telephone lines being cut near the investigation site,
Starting point is 00:35:56 forcing messages to be carried by motorcycle. There were also claims of unknown people watching the investigations from the woods. Guards were posted to stop people from interfering. A lot of shady shit. Now, by the end of 1946, the Ghost Rockets stopped appearing, and the world moved on. However, things didn't stay quiet for too long. Because as you mentioned earlier Kit, what makes this case so interesting is that the Ghost Rockets actually occupy a strange place in UFO history. They appeared just before the age of what we all
Starting point is 00:36:32 know and would now call flying saucers. In fact, it wasn't until one year later during an incident that's known as the Kenneth Arnold citing that the iconic flying saucer imagery would be created. And I think that's what makes this story so cool is all of this stuff, these rumored crafts, flying objects this all took place before this was a thing in being investigated by the government. Well, I guess that's what I was getting at earlier. It was happening while actively as it was becoming a thing.
Starting point is 00:37:05 Yeah, 46 into 47. 47 is when Roswell took place. Yeah, yeah. So... Happened fast. So it... They couldn't find a lake. They were like, fuck.
Starting point is 00:37:14 to desert out here. And I just went straight into Roswell. Yeah, it was literally in that space of a year. We went from no one talking about it to everyone talking about it. Yeah. To some extent. I mean, it took some time.
Starting point is 00:37:29 I probably took straight into the 50s for it to really become a thing. Yeah, it's such an interesting time. I mean, I could really read a lot more on that than I already have done. You know, was it? You know, I think that question has been posed probably more than once.
Starting point is 00:37:42 Like, you know, I'm sure there was stuff happening. during the war, but I guess we were all too preoccupied to really take notice. Dude, post-war, we were like popping champagne and banging each other. We were having a, it was like, that was the baby boom, right? Yeah. Because everyone came about, all the dudes came back from war, like, horny as hell. No one had seen each other in ages. And they were like, let's just.
Starting point is 00:38:03 I don't know if that's the anthropological reason, but yes. Sure. Yeah, everyone's like celebrating, having a good time. They were, quote, horny as hell. The Swedes are, I think they weren't on the battlefield anymore. There's like a big band jazz swinging party taking place, and the Swedes are like, the rockets are still coming. Guys, like, I know you're all partying and having a good time over there, Mr. Churchill,
Starting point is 00:38:25 but yeah, the rockets are still hitting Sweden. Yeah. This is a big problem. So it's kind of a miracle that they got the other governments to come and investigate. But I guess they had to because they're like, listen, if there's still missiles flying, that means the war ain't over. And then the other countries that were fighting, like America and Britain and stuff were like, Oh, oh. Yeah. And I guess it's not very nice to have missiles landing on top of you. Is it, Sweden?
Starting point is 00:38:49 No, no, but no, it was fine when it was happening to us, wasn't it? Yeah, yeah, no, but you want to stay out of that. You want to stay out of that. Yeah. Oh my God, alien objects are crashing and destroying your country. Ah, the thing is with the whole like alien versus human thing, we're neutral. Yeah. I'm so sorry. We're really neutral in the whole thing. We're just feeling we don't really have a dog in that fight. Yeah. So, oh, yeah. Oh, I guess, I mean, if we could offer you any support, it would be two of these, middle fingers, run your face. Take two of these three times a day. See if you feel better. All right. Oh, my God. Yeah. Because of the ghost rockets. Well, we could offer you ghost support. It's support that we'll bring you. And if you look for it, it ain't there. How about that? I can't wait for the comments.
Starting point is 00:39:36 I can't wait for the comments. We're getting so because people being like Sweden were actually incredibly helpful to the allies. They played a crucial part in the I don't give up. Flip. You think I got any pages left? I'm done. What?
Starting point is 00:39:52 It's over. It's over, buddy. it's over. My pages are ghosts. Wow. Okay. And we'll hold on a second. I guess the podcast is over and let's check the board.
Starting point is 00:40:04 Whoa. Whoa. Oh, wait. No. To be fair, we ended the podcast. There's no more supplemental information. And at the point of ending the podcast,
Starting point is 00:40:16 it's not how it works, but it was in the yes zone. Was this just a device to try and entrap me? Because it's definitely, because no one knew there's definitely a bunch of shit you left out. This is the whole story of the ghost rockets. It is incredibly mysterious. Rockets crashing to Earth
Starting point is 00:40:33 and any time we tried to go and find where they had hit, they weren't there. You got to stop saying that. Because you were gaslighted me a minute ago and telling me that you were like, yes, they were hovering. I think I clearly said they were hovering. Then you checked the page.
Starting point is 00:40:49 It doesn't say anything about them hovering. I did. It says they flew horizontally and flew in formation and then I was like, okay, I'm just saying that was news to me that they were hovering over Air Force bases. And then you're like, so anyway, the mystery of the crashing rockets
Starting point is 00:41:04 crashing down to Earth. I'm getting, I'm getting fucking Tucker Carlsoned over here. So they weren't hovering. But earlier you said that the crafts were hovering, but now you just reread it and said they were making information. Why would you say that? I did, didn't I say hovering? No.
Starting point is 00:41:19 I think I said floating. I think I said floating. I think they were flying information. Yeah, maybe floating. You little bastard. That should not be the distinct one. Distinction between the yes and a no. Distinctsuan.
Starting point is 00:41:38 God damn it. I don't know why that it took me out. I'm getting too angry. This is why I can't actually be anyone that delivers any important information. Because as soon as anyone questions me, I'm just like, I'll kill you. I'm getting hot in the studio. Well, you know, look, permission to throw you a bone. Permission granted.
Starting point is 00:42:04 I think this is an interesting time in UFO history for all the reasons. We just mentioned it was the birth of the modern UFO awareness and movement. Yeah. Roswell happened just one year later. Also over a, you know, kind of a military zone. But also something else we've talked about in many other cases, such as the recently covered Hudson-Varrow. Bally UFO case is this thing of UFOs being attracted to military infrastructure, nuclear infrastructure.
Starting point is 00:42:33 Yeah. And, you know, without going to intergalactic spiritual hippie, there's something interesting, isn't there, about this narrative, allegedly, that UFOs have been very interested in military technology on Earth since we discovered nuclear warfare. And that is 1945. That's, this is the time, guys. Isn't it weird that like there is UFO stories from before that, but it's as if once we started beating the brakes off each other,
Starting point is 00:43:00 once they detonated in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and did all the tests, then aliens were like, they were like, they were on their way to a different planet, and they were like, whoa. Joe! They saw a flash in the corner. Yeah, they're on the transponder. All right, we got to send the 752 over to, what's that called? YART.
Starting point is 00:43:20 YART. It's called Earth. Earth, yeah. Okay, we're sending to two squad. cars over there today. It is important to realize that this, it was really the start of humans experiencing UFOs and these types of objects interacting with humans on Earth. So that is important. You can almost say this kind of kicked off the whole UFO movement. Kicked off a lot of stuff, man. It really did. Listen, this is the end of our investigation into the ghost rockets. We have to
Starting point is 00:43:47 decide today whether or not we really think this thing is paranormal or not. Do we think these objects came from space? Do we think they have extraterrestrial origins? Or do we believe that this is leftovers from the war being fired, missiles and weaponry still being tested post-war? That's the conclusion that we have to make today. And I'm going to throw it to my co-investigator, Kit, even though we know where its heads out. Yay. Based off the board. I know it is in the yes, and I think that's fair for the information have been presented, I do feel very, along the way, I have felt very conflicted about this case, though. Yeah. Because, I don't know, there's like, there is something about just the isolated experience of the ghost rockets landing that is so just like, that has to just be a space object or missile or projectile.
Starting point is 00:44:45 And in fact, I have, I'm just realizing that. There is also a world where these are two different things. to some extent. What do you mean? I think that's what I'm struggling with reconciling. This is why I've been a stickler about it. Is to me an object hovering over a military base in Sweden. Sure. It's quite a lot different to things coming down that look like shooting stars and they land in a lake and no one can never find anything.
Starting point is 00:45:10 Yeah, yeah. That seems just like two quite different things. Yeah. Potentially. And like you can read a lot of declassified government documents that, yeah, I see what you mean. It's like it sounds like in those documents they're talking about something. different that isn't the ghost rockets. But I mean, but I guess it could be the same thing.
Starting point is 00:45:27 It's all just like a blanket term being used to explain strange objects in the sky. But hey, I'm not going to dilly dally. As I said, I was conflicted along the way, but I do feel as though, you know, the powers that be have investigated and come to their conclusions, declassified and public now, that do I think there was UFO activity, paranormal activity, taking place in. Sweden in post-war in 1946, it sounds like, yes, I think I belong where I belong. Yes! He's moving himself right here into the dead center of the Yes, territory of the Believabila
Starting point is 00:46:04 Board. That is where we wanted Kit to end up. And that's, and I, as you can see, on the Beliebillibilla board, I'm wearing a tin foil hat. Yes. Which is, which people think is to keep out government race. It's actually to keep out Rory's stupid thoughts out of my head. So, but even with that, I'm still a move with that. He's still been brought over here.
Starting point is 00:46:24 I do not have a sticker on the board, but for me this week, it's going to be a no. So, do you want to take another swing of that, dude? It's going to be a no from me this week after investigating the ghost rockets of 1946. I think it's probably very likely that these were leftover V2 rockets from the war that were being fired by people who found them.
Starting point is 00:46:51 And there was nothing recovered from the crash sites because the government just came and picked up all the pieces. We're going to be here for a little bit longer then. Because we don't have to be. That's usually... No, no, no. I think we will be. So the hovering objects over the Air Force base. You lied to my face, claiming that that was the exact same thing. And I was an idiot for not catching that you said they were hovering all along kit.
Starting point is 00:47:20 were hovering flying information, I always said that. But no, no, no, when it comes to the conclusion, you're saying, no, no, they never hovered. They only crashed down because they were fired by Germans. I want to. Let's just, let's just get, if we can all just, all eyes on Roy, please, explain that discrepancy. What I was just saying, that we couldn't reconcile these two different phenomena that you were, that you were trying to communicate to me. It was the same thing. Yeah. I, listen, I can defend all of my choices today, happy to do so. I said in some reports, people claimed the objects were floating and maneuvering and doing all these things, whether or not we believe them is different.
Starting point is 00:48:05 They could have just been seeing rockets being fired. And the case of the craft... But the people who investigated it, the kind of international consortium of different countries investigated it, reported that, yes, there were internal reports of objects hovering over the military bases. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. That was read verbatim from a declassified US document. Yep. That individual believed that there was no other explanation beyond extraterrestrial. That doesn't prove anything. You can still make up your own conclusions. So the 1940s, if rockets were being fired and like experimental missiles are being fired,
Starting point is 00:48:45 potentially there could be reports of someone saying I saw an object flying above a research base or something like that. Okay, okay. Well, it sounds like... I know. I don't like this because you're going to move your sticker. The clearest thing we're going to do here is if you're finally after all of this proposing the question to me, which you should have done, and I think you're now realizing you should have done before asking me, was asking me whether ghost rockets are real. Well, that would be a note. I think it's safe to assume that was the conclusion we're coming down on. Well, I didn't say that. So you're going to move your guy on the board?
Starting point is 00:49:20 Because he, that is really going to hurt to see if you move him. Why would it? You're here. You're here. You're invisible. You're a ghost. You're a ghost on the board. If you're just giving me the question at the end, which is our ghost rock, it's real.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Well, I can't sign off on that. Why did you even read the stuff about the fucking military? base then, if that's not what we're even talking about. I stand by my decision. If it were about UFO activity in Sweden, I was throwing you a bone. If you were trying to make it about UFO activity in Sweden, that's fine. That will be a yes. Because we have the reports. I trust that. If you were talking just about things going plop in a lake,
Starting point is 00:50:07 that's fine. That's a note. Okay. Do you prefer I call you flip or flop? Which one of your government names would you rather I use? Mr. Flipflop. Mr. Yes, no, yes, no. This is your fault. I just want that to be totally clear. This is, what the? I don't even know what just happened.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Kit couldn't distinguish, or whatever I said earlier, what we were concluding on. But it sounds like today, in the investigation into the ghost rockets, it is a yes and a no and then now a double no, unfortunately. It's been downgraded. And I don't think I can... It was pronounced alive at a good hospital and then moved to a worst hospital where it was, this condition was downgraded to death.
Starting point is 00:50:55 Because they didn't want to do the paperwork. They just shot it and said. It was actually dead when it got here. I don't think I can get Phil to edit this in a way that keeps kits, yes, intact. So I think we're going to have to conclude that it is a double no, unfortunately. I think it's safe to say the believable board was a massive failure
Starting point is 00:51:14 we will not be bringing this feature back into future episodes of the podcast. Kit ended up exactly where I feared he would. I appreciate I didn't clarify exactly what we were coming down on. I assumed Ghost Rockets was a solid enough concept, but there are a few
Starting point is 00:51:31 moving parts to today's case. Which I would accept if I hadn't really been at pains to say what's going on with these two quite different things. Guys, welcome to spooky season. Oh, yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:47 Everyone's, everyone's, stop drinking their pumpkin-spice latte. Can I have a venty, extra spicy latte, please? All the comments are like, can we get rid of the

Starting point is 00:54:23 Being a vampire, oh, you stay young, no one can tell. Yeah, your name after 800 years starts to age, even if your face doesn't, Volteri. Because even if you got turned into a vampire now, In like a thousand years' time when people are like, like, hello, my name is 24Z. And you're like, what's up?
Starting point is 00:54:43 My name's Michael. They're going to be like, you're definitely a vampire because no one's called Michael anymore. Yeah. So, Valtieri, that's a vampire. We see your games. Starting point is 00:55:12 And unfortunately, vampires do just walk the earth all the time in the commune because we tried to block out the sun to help the next harvest, but it's just dark all the time now. Yeah, so unfortunately, there's a bit of a vampire problem in the commune, so you never know, Valtieri,
