Hi, I'm Mike Chernivsky, and your listen to this podcast is Un Called for.
All right, so welcome to this podcast is Uncalled for, and I'm here with Brody.
Brody, go ahead and introduce yourself, please.
Hi, I'm Brody.
All right.
And I was just interviewed by you for your podcast, so,
I'll go and tell people about that real quick.
I host the podcast called Fandoms.
We interview people about whatever they're a fan of.
We've done episodes on everything from Star Trek to Cats to Sox.
Yeah, if you're a fan of it, we want to talk to you about it.
Other than that, we're on all major podcast platforms.
And for our audience,
just finished an interview with brodie for the fandoms podcast on star trek i had a great time
with it so i hope you learned a lot from my answers so oh yeah it's always fun getting to hear about
people's experiences with things that's why i love starting to love doing the show and i pretty
much just started it because i'm definitely not an expert on anything but i always love to learn about
things and find new things to check out and found a couple interesting topics through the podcast so
far and got to talk to some pretty cool people that's awesome that's awesome now you're based in
toronto right um not quite i'm uh thunder bay so uh near the minnesota border we're in ontario but
a ways quite a ways from Toronto oh yeah yeah if you're up there near uh Minnesota that's
So quite a way, so. Yeah, we're like maybe an hour from the border. All right. Good deal.
That's like me saying I'm actually from Kansas City, but I'm in the suburbs.
Yes. Yeah, it's quite a ways away. But the only time I've actually been to Toronto is in the airport.
Good deal. Good deal. I've never been to Toronto or Canada for that matter. But I should.
time.
So.
You're not missing much.
We don't even
have snow now, man.
Like, I stepped outside today
and there's no snow. It's Canada.
And like, it's
ridiculous. Yeah,
we got to fix the climate change issue,
man, so we get your
snow back.
So aside
from Star Trek, where
are some examples of some of the
fandoms you've tackled so far?
Um, we've done Dungeons and Dragons twice.
Um, we've done ghosts twice, but the second one isn't out yet.
Uh, other than that, we've done, um, aliens.
We've done, uh, we just did one for on football.
We've done one on JRP video games.
Anime fans came out in droves.
We're still looking for more sports and a few more music fans.
We've done some shows, like Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Supernatural.
We've also done Rupal's Drag Race, Backstreet Boys.
I definitely recommend my three personal favorites would be the ones with,
I just did a spot on her podcast, actually, but her name's Kendra.
She did the Backstreet Boys, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Rupal episodes.
And she's very, very, very fun guest.
Out of the ones released right now, those would be my biggest recommendation.
That's awesome.
That's awesome.
Yeah, I've got some thoughts on football as well, having, well, it depends on what code of football we're talking about, too,
because, I mean, there's, yeah, it's a catch-all term,
but you could be talking about association football
or American football or Canadian football.
Ah, Latin, Canadian football.
Yeah, even we don't like Canadian football.
Yeah.
So who's your team?
Who's your football team?
Well, it's in, it's in, for NFL.
Okay, for NFL, it's interesting
because I've devoted way too much time
on this particular
podcast to the subject
I grew up
a St. Louis Rampan
and then
you said grew up
what about now though
well in
2016
they were
literally lied out of
St. Louis
back to Los Angeles
for no good reason
it was enough
for the
city
and the area
to sue the NFL
for
violating their own relocation policy because it says in that relocation policy you're not supposed to move an NFL team if if it's primarily to make money all right and that's entirely what happened here st. Louis was willing to build the Rams a new stadium if to give you some idea where it would have been located
The Dome, the Dome America Center, it's now called, is located not too far from the, not too far from the Cleeds Landing, right on the Mississippi River, and just north of Lakelead's Landing is the sites where this new stadium would have been.
Okay.
And the team pooh-pooed it, saying, oh, it's not workable.
We're sticking by the terms of our lease on the dome that said an arbitration that happened that said, basically that arbitration said you have to put in as much for a new stadium into the dome.
not activate the clause.
Well, while the courts found in summary judgment in favor of St. Louis,
and it's in your bylaws that you can't move a team if there's a good faith efforts on the part of the city to try to keep the team,
which happened in St. Louis, not so much in San Diego or Oakland, which also lost teams fairly recent.
So, after that move, it took me a couple of years to find a new team, and I wound up resorned to yet another team that left St. Louis, the Arizona Cardinals, is my new team.
A lot of people locally, because, again, I'm in Kansas City, and we have the chiefs here.
I have a lot of problems with the chiefs that it would be impossible for me to be a fan of theirs, including the four.
facts that their owner Clark Hunt was the only member of the NFL's L.A. committee that basically
said, uh, yeah, screw St. Louis. Yeah, it's, it's so much politics involved with everything that
it's just, it really sucks because it's, it's all about money at the end. And it's never about
what's best for the team or the fans or any of that stuff. Exactly. There's another
episode back to the Ransford said there's another episode of my podcast it's called
the title is hashtag cronky outs as with an arsenal fan so we're switching
a switching codes of football here from some one guy talking American football
another guy talking association football soccer but we both have a shared hatred of
that particular owner because the guy to
owns the Rams also owns Arsenal Football Club,
and they fucking hate him at Arsenal.
All right.
Yeah, I'm not super familiar with like soccer football, like at all.
It's never really my sport or anything, but like I'm not a huge sports guy myself.
Like I love watching the Super Bowl.
I love watching Stanley Cup.
football and hockey are the only sports I can really bring myself to actually enjoy watching.
Right, right. And I do hope to have a fan of Denver sports team to come on because said owner also owns,
since I'm talking about hockey, the Colorado Avalanche.
Yeah, I'd just love to have any sports fans, really. We've been having, it's been like pulling teeth with them.
like at first i thought sports fans were going to be coming out in troves to talk their teams
and hype it up because like they're usually so passionate and everything but like as far as
my show it's been like now we're getting some more music stuff and some other things but like
when i asked people what they were fans of it was like mostly all the anime people who came out
and like a lot of them and like at first i'm like oh my gosh like i need i need to diversify like
I'm not trying to have an anime podcast here.
It's supposed to be about more topics than that.
So, yeah, I really appreciated the support from that particular fandom.
But, like, yeah, we definitely need more of the sports guys to step up for our podcast.
Yeah.
That's funny you mention anime because I did a couple of episodes at an anime convention.
One of my coworkers runs an ony make convention here in KC that comes up from times.
time it's called salsam khan um the two episodes one was i led a group discussion on anime culture
among convention governors a lot of humor and cosplay and everything and the seconds was with an
anime voice actor his name's bill butts bill and i happen to have been uh school buddies together
cool that's a small world that's awesome yeah i mean that's you can get him on your pot you
podcasts by all means get him because he's he's great i would love to have anybody like that that would be
super cool we've only had like uh like i've got to talk to two guys who i was a i was kind of a fan of
whose podcasts i listened to before i started my show so that was pretty cool i got to talk to a dude
talks about uh japanese comics uh from the show shonen flop and uh and uh i got to talk to
talk to a dude uh from the podcast alien theorists theorizing so those were both pretty fun
ones for me to get to record because i was getting to talk to somebody i was kind of a fan of
on fandom so if i get to do more of those it would be super cool awesome awesome yeah um we have a lot of
podcasts originally from kansas city in fact i host a podcaster's meetup
group here for Kansas City
podcasters with a lot of
politicians show up.
For example, I don't know
how familiar you are
with American politics, but
my, she wound up
being my current congresswoman.
Her name's Cherise Davids.
She does a podcast
or she did a podcast
called a
sturdy pants, which is
about entrepreneurship
and you can still find it on YouTube, I believe.
But one that's really talked about, like half of it is produced here in Kansas City.
It's called New Heights.
You may have heard of it?
No, I'm not familiar.
Okay, New Heights is a, it's primarily a football podcast,
co-hosted by Jason and Travis Kelsey.
Okay.
right and and uh yeah Travis plays for the chiefs locally in fact he's been
he gained international notoriety uh lately because he's the guy that's dating Taylor Swift
oh yeah we were talk yes I was talking about him on my uh on my football episode there
yeah we that's cool yeah that romance has happened like literally
Just a few miles from where I'm sitting right now.
Oh, it gets better.
Well, my co-workers lives in the neighborhood where his older house sits in our Northland.
Man, small world.
He's told me about how the neighborhood particular last couple of months,
there's been a lot black security vans and paparazzi around the neighborhood.
So I could totally understand
is buying the place in Lee Wood
not too far from here
that's gated, it's private,
and...
Yeah, I guess you kind of need that kind of seclusion.
Especially with someone like Taylor Swift
who unfortunately can't go anywhere
without needing security apparently.
Yeah, I mean, her fans are nuts,
so I'm not surprised.
Those Swifties are crazy.
Yeah.
Yeah, we had.
Maybe that's a fandom you should examine on your, on your, on your, I had one lined up and she keeps flaking on me.
And like, I doubt she's going to hear this or anything.
But like, she keeps, she keeps flaking on me every time and she keeps making excuses.
And I'm just like, oh, I've got, I've got questions ready to go.
If a Swiftie's ready to record.
But it's not, yeah, no, I keep getting flaked on by the SWIFT.
that stepped up originally.
So she ain't doing her fandom justice.
No.
So I'm going to put a call out to any Swifties who may be hearing this.
Please come on this man's podcast.
Help him out.
Help them out.
Right.
Don't let me have wasted that time right in those questions for nothing.
Right.
Okay.
So now in terms of hockey, I'm also a hockey fan since Smith.
pretty much any team that Grisky played for,
which includes the St. Louis Blues,
the closest NHEL team to me.
So I grew up in a Maple Leafs fan family.
So constant disappointment.
Yeah, my, when my dad passed away,
we wrote a letter to the Leafs being like,
okay he supported you guys his whole life you guys got to pull your socks up this season and do this
and they they made it to the playoffs for like and we were all hyped because they did real good in
their first game and then game two they tanked and we were like really like you gave us you gave
us that little bit of hope like you couldn't have just you couldn't have just had a normal
season for you guys. You guys had
had to tease us
because they'd been doing garbage at that point.
I can't remember what year it was
exactly, but they'd been
playing like trash. My dad
who was like a diehard was like
the year before he passed away. He was
on the fence about switching teams and we
were all shocked because he was a
diehard Leafs guy.
We were like, come
on, come on, you got to win it for him this
year and they let us down. So
I don't know about
my brothers but uh i've been shopping around for new teams ever since wow um so i'm guessing the habs are out
for a new team uh there they tend to be what i uh who i root for now like i i'm not huge into
hockey but uh my best my best friend uh is a habs guy so i kind of just fell into supporting them
for now and for our non hockey fans was into Montreal canadian's there
yes also called the habs so oh yes i i actually as a canadian i didn't know that for the longest
time growing up and i didn't realize they were the
anytime my buddy was talking about the habs i had no idea what the hell he was talking about
and uh it it was finally one day i just outright asked i was like kay like what the hell
are you talking about he's like the canadians like why didn't you just say that
and yeah no it was it made it just as soon that you know right so yeah
right yeah that's one of those things you just learn uh when you get into any any sports culture
like i'll use arsenal as in the official officially arsenal football club but their
nicknames the gunners yeah it's it's hard living in canada when you're not super super into hockey
like you got a you know enough to pass by no matter what because you just you end up taking
some in that to some extent but as far as everything else it's like some people some people around
here they it's like they're talking another language when they really get into their hockey
right right and again that's true of any sports you know each sport has uh their own jargon
yeah i think it's true with most fandoms it's everything's got there everything seems pretty simple from
outside and then you get into it.
And there's always layers you're never ready for.
I've definitely learned that having to research different people's interest the last
couple months.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, yeah, basically for me, the Oilers, the Kings, the Blues, and the Rangers, those
were all the teams that Gretzky wound up playing for.
He did wind up owning and coaching the coyotes for a bit, the former went.
big jets. Yeah, yeah, Gretzky's just a super interesting human being. Like even just all the
stuff surrounding like him and his dad and like you could, if you want to cry, go watch like the
story of Wayne Gretzky's dad and losing his memory and stuff like that. That stuff is
heartbreaking. And like his dad like recorded every single game growing up and stuff. And I guess his
dad like had brain injury or something and lost all of his memory and they went back and
watched all these tapes that he had and stuff and like his dad was like seeing it all for the
first time and stuff wow yeah just wow rest in peace walter yeah oh my god so yeah it sounds like
it's a it's uh definitely great concepts and uh uh uh
Yeah, do your best to get as many of those fandoms exposure is possible.
And like I said, definitely try and get in touch with Bill.
I'm sure he would love to do your podcast and talking about the insinats of being an anime voice actor.
Yeah, that would be super cool.
And definitely good luck with getting a swift year to do your show.
so yeah thanks for having me it's oh thanks for thanks for having me on your show and thanks for
coming on my show yeah no problem i had fun talking star trek and i had fun talking well
everything we talked about here from football the hockey to yeah all the random crap in between
exactly that's why i love to about doing this podcast is uh get you and stuff about everything
