Starting point is 00:00:00 Jaylen sort of clicks in in the fourth quarter. He hit a shot late and it felt like, oh, the Knicks aren't going to lose this game. And I finally got the confidence to feel like that was true. Jalen does have a lot of Kobe in him. And I said very aggressively to my son, I was like, he's Kobe. He's Kobe. And I was like, these are young men and they're playing Kobe. And I think he got scared a little bit because I was not, my tone wasn't great.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Game two, he came around. He was like, I'm rooting for the next now. All right, welcome to a very special episode of Throwbacks. If in case you have wondering. You've been waiting all week for this. I've been waiting all, Matt, I've been waiting my whole life for this. Okay? So, look, first and foremost, if you can, give us a subscribe on our YouTube channel at Throwback Show on all social platforms.
Starting point is 00:01:09 I can't even talk because I'm so happy. Do you feel just a little different? Do you just feel a little different now that you are a champion? The fact that the Knicks won the NBA championship, I feel like I've never been more in touch with my younger self. You know those videos? I could look at the younger version of me now and I could be like, it's okay, kid. This is all going to work out one day because the younger version of me never thought this was going to work out. It was a tortured existence.
Starting point is 00:01:36 It has been a fun ride to sort of to be on this ride with you from the outside looking. in as we talk about diehard fans versus like, you know, me just kind of an athlete. Maybe it's a little bit different at times. It's been a joy and a pleasure to watch the Knicks win because they're, they're one of the most likable teams, a championship team, I think of all time. But to watch you watch them and have the moments with their kids and your family and your friends. Like, dude, it's, it was, it was pretty awesome, man.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Yeah, you know, I posted that, that reaction video. I really had to think long and hard if I wanted to post that. because of my son Jacob's reaction. And in my mind, I'm like, if this kind of blows up and he goes a little viral, is he now going to be the Knicks Crying Kid? Well, sure enough, the NBA reposted the video. Awesome, dude.
Starting point is 00:02:25 And now he is the crying Nick's kid. I think I repose, like, this is the video of the day. You have to watch this video. He was at his little coach pitch game. And people are coming up to go, Jacob loved your video. He's like, Dad, I'm popular. He's going to be like, Daddy, am I famous now?
Starting point is 00:02:39 He basically said that. So, look, you're going to have. have to bear with me today and you Matt as well are going to have to bear with me. One of the most fun parts of this Nick's run and this is the cool part of where we're at with social media and phones with sports between Twitter and all my
Starting point is 00:02:55 group chats, whether it's Ben Stiller or the person we have coming on today to join us. My good friend and friend of the show who's been on throwbacks before. You know him from New Girl in the neighborhood. He is now a big part of the new season of White Lotus when you're part of White Lotus, you are Really moving up in the world.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Shooting in France, where our good friend, Victor Wenbignon is from. I'm talking about Max Greenfield. Max is stud. You know, one of my oldest friends, we go way back in time.
Starting point is 00:03:24 I remember I didn't go to the Super Bowl and the Giants beat the Pats. Him and I'll tell him this. We like locked arms for field goals and stuff. He's a psycho, just like me in a much different way.
Starting point is 00:03:36 And that is the person I text. We all have that like phone a friend, who's the number one person when something goes good or bad. I would love, for you, would you screenshot a text of you and Max and put it online? Would you ever, would you do parts of that? I would love to see that. And I have a few good ones for him melting down. And I thought a good thing to do with Max, we're obviously talk about what happened
Starting point is 00:03:58 and a lot of people have. But I think we need, because we are throwbacks, we are going to do our top four things of this Knicks playoff run that we think will be a throwback 10 years from now. The four things we might do an anniversary episode for 10 years from now. So I guess sit back, relax. Yeah, I'm not saying much of this one, buddy. Matt, you could take a few plays off. Let's you guys cry over your Knicks winning the title. A little mop-up duty for you when you need it.
Starting point is 00:04:29 And here is throwbacks friend, Max Greenfield. All right, one of my good friends, but also the only true Nick fan that I can be fully transparent with when texts Max don't ever share our text about the Knicks because I might get exposed for some freezing cold takes but Max
Starting point is 00:04:51 you right now are standing here are people been texting you congrats because I've been getting congratulated like as if I got married or had a kid. You should be congratulated because you know look I am a Knicks fan I grew up in
Starting point is 00:05:07 New York I love the Knicks. There were moments where I was like, I really can't do this. And I got, there was a moment where I sort of like drifted over and I was like, man, you know, I really like what Derek Coleman and Kenny Anderson are doing over in New Jersey. You like the Nets for a minute.
Starting point is 00:05:25 By the way. But I mean, Coleman was a Syracuse guy. Kenny's a New York guy. I was like, maybe. A little Droz and Petrovich. They got to the finals. They got to the finals that one. And then there was just a bunch of times where you were like,
Starting point is 00:05:38 I've just got to invest in other stories in the NBA. And Jerry the whole time, we would be like out to lunch. And apropos of nothing, he would go, I don't think Raymond Felton's like the answer. We've had Raymond Felton on this show, and I might have told him I did think he was the answer at the time. And like, I just, Jerry, you have been the most loyal fan to this. team. And I'm genuinely happy for you. And like, if you're watching this, if you watch the show, if you listen to this show, I also really appreciate, like,
Starting point is 00:06:18 Jerry had opportunities to go to these games. And now that he has three children, which is too many children, he was like a super good dad. And he stayed home and he watched it with his kids and he was a responsible human being. And he got, by the way, I also know he like couldn't be in that arena because his stress level was so intense. it would have disturbed the people around him and he might have gone to the hospital. That game four, Matt and Max,
Starting point is 00:06:45 that game four comeback would have probably took years. If I was there, it really took maybe a year off my life at home. If I was in the building, I think I would have had to maybe go get a checkup right after that game. That game shifted everything for me. Because, and I think it really shifted things
Starting point is 00:07:03 for a lot of people. I mean, I don't know, but it made, it made, why this experience for so many people who were not originally Knicks fans was so special because for me I was like when Josh Hart missed that layup because every Knicks fan is waiting for it to drop
Starting point is 00:07:24 like for the other shoe to drop. Where's the Halliburton shot? Right. Just like when is this going to turn? And Josh Hart missed that layup and he started like pointing to his head and it's one of my favorite plays in the whole. whole series where on the other end he's on the floor after i think castle got fouled and he's about to go to the line and you could see it's all like it's all the pressure of all of it just is coming down
Starting point is 00:07:49 on heart and he saw his life flashed before his eyes and brunson and two other guys from nicks like jump on him and go no no no no no pick your fucking head up and that's and it switched for me in that moment because i was like i cannot i love this team so much and these individuals players so much, I can't live in a world where they're considered, you know, the guys who blew it. Right. Because that's what they would have been, especially after having won those first, like, you win those first two games in San Antonio. And that, and all of a sudden you go, this is a team that could win the championship to. If you lose now, you're like, people are going to say you blew it.
Starting point is 00:08:31 and then he misses that layup and I just it was the beginning of the year it was I really started having a heart and then I was like I can't I almost didn't want to watch the rest of the games because I was like I can't just can't when they won it was such relief I just feel I feel so relieved now I'm so happy for them I want to say real quick Jared before you go the I'm a basketball fan I obviously grew up a Lakers fan but it was as much as we talk about Knicks with Jerry. Like it was so hard to, no, to root against this Knicks team, man. Like it was like if you're just a basketball fan and appreciate unity teams, players, like,
Starting point is 00:09:14 like Brunson now is like literally like he's my favorite player to watch. I, I freaking love Jalen Brunson. I think, and he's, he's the closest thing to me that we've seen since like a Kobe and one of those guys that has that killer instinct. I don't care if he's six foot or six 10. Like he's, I was happy for him too because he's taken a lot of heat. over the years and all the people in the media talking about he can't be this, that. Where, guy, we could talk, where does Brunson
Starting point is 00:09:39 rank for you guys? I know there's this whole thing about, is he the greatest Nick of all time? And Patrick Ewing probably is that, but like, Max, where does he rank, man? I mean, you've been following his team for years. He's got to be up there. Jerry, have you answered this yet? Jerry's not answered it publicly to anybody, no.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Would you like to? Is he the greatest, is he the greatest nick of all time? So I have a hard time with like, I with full due respect to Clyde Frazier and all that. Like if I haven't seen it with my own eyes, I'll listen to the old heads and say, sure, all right,
Starting point is 00:10:14 I'm sure Clyde Frazier probably did what Brunson did. And that's why people in 1973 would swear that Clyde's the best. And he probably is. But just for me, what I've watched for almost 40 years watching, that's the best Nick I've ever seen. That's one of the best. I'll take it a step further
Starting point is 00:10:31 and you can call me prisoner the moment. That's one of the best players I've ever seen. If you're talking about winning and getting the shit done, that is one of the best players I have ever seen,
Starting point is 00:10:43 but definitely for me, and I love Patrick Ewing, and I love John Starks and Charles Oakley, but that dude did something that no, I'm sorry, LeBron wanted no part in New York,
Starting point is 00:10:54 and they were dysfunctional. Durant and Kyrie, there was a real window there where maybe the dysfunction could have fit. They wanted no part of it. That dude wanted it. He wanted New York and everything that came with it.
Starting point is 00:11:06 So for me, you are number one, Jalen Brunson. Max. I think you have to honor history. So I don't, I'm hesitant to answer the question. But the thing that sort of I can't get away from in this debate is the pay cut. People are getting mad now. 130 million, I think, right? Now there's like agents who are like.
Starting point is 00:11:31 The owners are coming to us ask and say, Brunson took a pay cut. I can't get around the pay cut because the pay cut makes the roster possible. And that's what won it for the city. The pay cut is essentially OG Ananoi or Mikhail Bridges. Like pick one, that's the pay cut.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Yeah. That you're allowed to have. And, you know, as good as Brunson is, Like, I don't think, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I don't, I, I, I, I think you, and then you see, like, what he did in game five. Dude, you know, like, he dominated. Do you know what I'm sad for? I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:24 I don't know how, I don't know how, I don't know how you debate it. I'm not sad for Spurs fans. I mean, you lost. It's a bummer. you got a bunch of rings. You were, in my opinion, are one of the crown jewel franchises in the NBA, although did some wacky stuff,
Starting point is 00:12:38 and we'll talk about that in the second. I really look at the Mavericks fans, and I know you got a ring with Dirk and all that, and you beat LeBronso. You got a lot to celebrate, and you got Cooper flags. But holy shit, dude, you had Luca and Brunson
Starting point is 00:12:55 in your building. Same draft. I just don't know. know how that could happen. Was that the same draft? Yeah, it was all the same draft. Were they the same? Yes, it was. Round one, round two. Well, round one, round two.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Yes, it was the same draft. You brought both these guys. It just is insane. That's what I was most excited about when the Knicks signed Brunson was. I like, I know a lot of people, I watched that montage of every talking head crapping on Brunson. I love it. But the thing I like, I wasn't the not think he was going to be this, but I'm like, look, we saw him score like 40 against the jazz in game six with no Luca against Donovan Mitchell in the Western Conference playoff. So big game stuff. And he was off ball with Luca.
Starting point is 00:13:41 So I'm like, you tell him you could bring this little dude over here. And maybe if you do ever get a Donovan Mitchell or another guard, like he could play off ball or if you do get like a Kevin Durant. I just thought he was so versatile. I was excited from day one. But no one. And I, other than Rick Brunson and Leon Rose. There was a quote. Actually, I think Rick and Jalen were on some show and they asked the same question. Like, did you expect this? And Rick was like, honestly, I didn't think he would become this. And even Jalen said the same thing. It was actually Jalen's like, honestly, I would be lying to you if I thought I was going to be what I am right now. But, you know, then he goes into all the work and just I believe in myself. But I don't think anybody could have anticipated Jalen Brunson was going to be what he is. And man, I'll tell you what. I just, I'm, I love. I love.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I love athletes who aren't afraid of the moment. I just love that. It's just a respect thing. And I think we all do. We all appreciate that. But like he wanted the moment, right? And he would have took the blame if they lost too. Like that's why I just,
Starting point is 00:14:42 I just love that dude, man. I mean, you guys got a good one. All right, everybody. Before we get on with the rest of the show, I'm going to take a quick break because of this time for my BetMGM pick of the week. And I've been working with BetMGM for a while as an ambassador and now they're supporting our podcast.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Listen, we know basketball's over. We got baseball going on. But most importantly, we got the World Cup going on. I can't wait. USA playing Australia on Friday. After that first game, you can call this a homer pick. You could say, oh, you're just picking the favorite. USA minus 160 to beat Australia.
Starting point is 00:15:16 But from what I saw, I think this is the best USA team we've had in a very, very long time. And I think they're about ready to go on a run. you might have just seen in some other sports. So I'm going Team USA minus 160 to beat Australia. That is my bet MGM pick of the week. Let's go on a run. Let's get hot. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Okay, one thing I've really tried to stay consistent with lately is my morning routine. No matter how busy things get, I like to start today with a little quiet time, coffee, get outside for a quick walk, just before everything kicks into high gear. And honestly, during the summer when you're traveling more or constantly on the the move, it's easy for those routines to disappear. And that's why I've been loving Kachava's new travel packs. They make it ridiculously easy to keep my daily wellness routine going wherever I am. I could just throw a couple of packs in my bag and I'm all set. It's all the nutrition your body craves in one simple shake. You got protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and greens,
Starting point is 00:16:19 probiotics, electrolytes, and more. And the best part, it actually tastes great. My go-to is chocolate, but they've got six flavors, including vanilla, chai, macha, coconut asaii, and strawberry. Plus, it gives me steady energy throughout the day and helps me stay on track even when my normal schedule is changing. So take your daily ritual with you. Go to cachava.com and use code throwbacks for 15% off your first order. That's Kachava, K-A-V-A-D-com, code throwbacks.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Max, I start with you. Where does this rank amongst just, moments in your life, obviously your dad and all that, but where does this rank watching the Knicks win an NBA championship for you? Oh, man. I don't know. I mean, like, you're talking to a guy, me and Max, literally, it's probably ahead of the city.
Starting point is 00:17:14 But Max, let me give you, let me give Matt a little context here. Max is a big Giants fan. I had a chance to go to Arizona against the Patriots in the Super Bowl. I didn't go. Matt, I chose to watch it, Max. But in the round before, when Tyne's missed four field goals, Max was at my house. For the final field goal,
Starting point is 00:17:30 we literally locked arms like we were players like this, in my house. I remember like it was yesterday. And the fucking kick was up and it was good. So sports-wise, Max, where does this rank?
Starting point is 00:17:40 Okay, sports-wise. Yeah, let's go sports-wise. Again, like, as I've gotten older, my anxiety has gotten the best of me. Sure. And I don't, and I'm not yet,
Starting point is 00:17:51 I don't think I'm yet at the place where I'm like really happy about this. I'm still just coming down. You're like still in shock a little bit like yeah. Yes, I'm telling you I cannot express to you What a car accident that Josh Hart because I only because I love him so much and I was like He can't be what he's gonna be after this if this goes the other way
Starting point is 00:18:17 This career's over well I just like you know the amount of times that like Charles Smith comes up or like You know And even like you being missed finger Beyond that, like the Bill Buckner's of the world, like all these. And like, look, there was so much more series, but I just... That could have been the pivotal moment. I just saw it on his face, too. Like a team that had been so steady this whole time, you could see it in his expression.
Starting point is 00:18:43 And when his teammates came and rallied around him, I was like... And again, like, Matt, this was what you were talking about before. Like, you can't not love this team. Yeah. You know? I agree. Just as a sport, as someone who like, even if you've never watched basketball, before.
Starting point is 00:18:58 You know, I coach my son's basketball team and you're like, that's the thing. That's what we're looking for. Like, I don't care that, like, we're setting up an offense. You know, it's, that's the thing. It's being a teammate and, and rallying around someone and being able to brush off a mistake. And, like, so anyway, I'm still sort of like, I'm not into the, I haven't fully embraced the way yet. I'm just so relieved and thrilled for this group.
Starting point is 00:19:32 I have a pitch for you. But it's up there for sure. Well, Jerry, I want to know really quick before your pitch. I want to know where this ranks. We saw the video of you and your boy. I got to be honest with you, I was crying, dude, because I just, I know how special that is. And to be able to share that with him,
Starting point is 00:19:46 I have to imagine this is up there as good as it gets for you. And the reason why, like, Max said, like I didn't go to any of the games. Like, yes, I was trying to be, like, responsible that. maybe could have even took him, but also being superstitious. But also, like, he's seven years old. Max, I have a question for Ozzy with you coming up. But, like, I tried not to pass this on to him.
Starting point is 00:20:07 I swear, I really tried not to pass this insane obsession that Max could quote me from a coffee shop fucking 18 years ago when I brought up Raymond Felton. But it happened. And he's the kind of kid where if I get up to go to the fridge to get a drink, he's like, Dad, they're running double bigs. You might want to get back here. like he said that to me.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Like he knows what double big lineups. Like he's all in. So, and it was also cool because it was his first happy tears. Like he starts bawling. I thought I heard him jumping up and down. I thought I maybe like snapped his neck or something.
Starting point is 00:20:40 And I'm like, buddy, you okay? He's like, I'm happy and I just don't know, but why am I crying? So it was his first happy tears. So for me, similar to Max, I'm still coming down.
Starting point is 00:20:50 And I love the Giants for what they did against the undefeated Patriots. 1996 was the first Yankees ring and they hadn't won in almost 20 years. That was the first adult championship I witnessed. But this one's it for me. Yeah, this is a no-brainer. I'm sorry. You could, I want to keep the one against the Patriots.
Starting point is 00:21:09 I'll give back 2011. I'll give back the 2009 Jeter A-Rod ring. I'll give back quite a few. This one, this one means a lot for me. And that's what I'm asking about Ozzy, Max, because you're growing up in L.A. I know he's like got some Laker Lucas stuff. What is Ozzy, who's a basketball kid, what does he think of Jalen Brunson now?
Starting point is 00:21:29 Well, he started trolling me in the beginning and was immediately like, I'm rooting for the Spurs. Every kid loots for Wembe. And he took it on and we were watching that. We were watching, I think, the first game. And Spurs go up and he's talking all kinds of shit to me. And I'm just, I'm pacing it, I'm pacing it, I'm pacing it, I'm pacing it, I'm pacing it. And then Jalen sort of clicks in in the fourth quarter. And I don't exactly remember what shot it was.
Starting point is 00:21:59 But there was a, there was a, he hit a shot late. And it felt like, oh, the Knicks aren't going to lose this game. And I finally got the confidence to feel like to go back at your son. Yeah. And he has like, and I needed to give him a reference point because Jalen does have a lot of Kobe in him. and I said very aggressively to my son. I was like, he's Kobe. He's Kobe.
Starting point is 00:22:31 And I was like, these are young men, and they're playing Kobe. And I think he got scared a little bit because I was not, my tone wasn't great. Game two, he came around. He was like, I'm rooting for the Knicks now. There we go. So I thought it would be fun on this show being that, you know, We like to talk about throwback stuff. It'd be fun if you and I, and we could ping pong it or just give me your four.
Starting point is 00:22:58 We're going to do our top four things, not even from the finals, from the Knicks playoff run, top four things that we think will be a throwback. Ten years from now, we're going to do the ten-year anniversary, and we're going to run these moments out. I mean, you don't even need number one. So I think we all know what number one is, but if you want to go, if you want to start there, count backwards, the floor is yours. Yeah, I mean, that's the obvious one. I'm not. I'm going to go, these are my four. The first one is, and Jerry, this is, Jerry texting me and goes, I don't like that
Starting point is 00:23:35 they're sitting in B. And I said, I said, no, Jerry, this is good. This is a panic move. It's too early to do this. They don't have an answer. And I stand by that. So what? You didn't like that I was, uh, I know, I love that you, but I thought you were wrong.
Starting point is 00:23:56 And it made me feel like, man, I didn't really fully understand because they had just beat Atlanta by a million. But that was their best chance of winning when they sat and Bede. And they did come close that game. I'm not arguing with you. But what I'm telling you is it made me adjust my ceiling on this team because they, like, and Bid was the reason why or a big reason why they beat the Celtics. 100% game 7 he was a monster. And then for them to, and I get he was injured. I don't know. I don't know what was going on.
Starting point is 00:24:32 But it felt early after one game to totally adjust your game plan. Yeah. And it felt like, oh, we saw all we needed to see. And we need to rethink everything. Off that, Max, that for me, I was scared of Philly going. in Matt, because I remember like the series two years ago, that was a, that was, and Philly fans, I always say this
Starting point is 00:25:00 on this show, the worst fan. But what I said, like, the only fan base to ever hurt my feelings and make me quit Twitter for a month was Philly fans in that series. But in game one, when we crushed them and Embeddy was in the game, it was, it was a practice for Brunson. They were
Starting point is 00:25:16 doing like drop coverage with Embeddy. He was shooting like 12 foot it was kind of laughable. So that's why I got nervous when they're benching Embed and beat. I'm like, The only chance they get is not in beat because he can't play basketball longer than four days in a row. I like that one. I should admit to Jerry as well.
Starting point is 00:25:33 There was a panic text that I had before the Spurs series. I was feeling so good. I kept texting him. I was like, I don't know, man. I just feel really good about this. I kept saying if you take Shea and put him on the next roster, I think that Oklahoma City team, you know. You confuse me four. You confused me.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Well, I was freaking out. I was just like, I don't, I think I'm not worried about these guys. And then the morning of game one, I go, do we miss Yabaseli? He texted me. He fucked, this fucking guy texted me. Fuck, man, do we miss Yabaseli right now? You're not the only one I texted. By the way, a great segment would be just screenshoting Nix fans group chats, dude.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Do we miss Yabaselli? Is this the moment we miss Yabaselli? He's from France. He does have the body type that really, like, you know, has. historically done well against Wemby. Oh, my gosh. I love your number one. And we will be talking about that.
Starting point is 00:26:29 Let's go with your next one. Well, I mean, this is a good segue. Mitch Robinson dunking over Ambide. Yes. Matt, do you remember that? I don't. Well, that led us to, well, a lot of things. Off that, one of my moments, Matt, was the Mitch Dyson-Daniels fight.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Amazing. Which the Knicks were up by 40 at half, which led to Mitch Robinson posting, if you haven't seen it, that animated video of that squirrel saying, I got a question because I really need to know, do you ever get tired? I'm not going to sing the rest. Sound good today, though. By the way, not bad.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Jeez, Louise. I got some pice. But yes, that dunk, that was just like. That was as shocking as the next one. To me, that dunk by Robinson, that might have ended in Bede's career. I don't know where he goes from this. We can't play more than four days in a row. That team is flawed.
Starting point is 00:27:25 That might have ended in Bede's career. So, great memorable moment. After the dog shit fucking let me grab his leg and pull him out and then we lose Mitch for a year. It's like. Had that coming. All right. Next one. This one is, I went outside of the parameters.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Outside the box. Okay. Of the assignment, maybe. Yep. This is last year's playoffs. Oh, wow. And just a thank you and appreciation for a Sarr Thompson for guarding Jalen Brunson 94 feet. Like a savage psychopath.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Like it was the scariest thing I've ever seen in all my life. And I go, why is he doing this? Why? It's got to be a foul, right? He's bumping him. Why is he so fast? Why is how was he moving his body like that? And I think it prepared Jalen for like...
Starting point is 00:28:30 I like that. Oh, if these guys are just going to guard me at half court? I don't have to see that. Yeah, that's a great take. That's a great, great take. So just to thank you to Asar. I'd also like to thank a couple people. I'd like to thank Anthony Edwards.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Ant Man, for Cat, yeah. For like fully embracons. racing the cat experience and infusing him with the confidence. Like, oh, my God. Alex Rodriguez is just an all-time sell at the wrong moment. We got A-Rod. Max, this is an unhinged rant from you. You're talking about A-Rod.
Starting point is 00:29:08 He won an award. Keep going, dude. Yes, I'd like to thank these people. Also, you know, you know who's not getting a lot? You know who's not in all the media that I'm digesting in the last couple of days? You know who is not getting enough love in a very real way? Who? Tom Tibido.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Tibbeto. Tibbs. I agree. You know, like, this was not a guy who we were like, I can't believe this coach. I can't deal with it. There were so many, like, incredible things that he did for this team. And I mean, Mike Brown, he did such an, and his demeanor, he did such an incredible job. Everything about him.
Starting point is 00:29:48 He pulled all the right levers. It was an incredible run. But, you know, he was all. He benefited from a lot of what Tom Tivode instilled in a lot of these guys, I feel like. I agree. Talk about accepting the challenge. Like we talked about Brunson accepting the challenge. And Matt, you even seen it with like the Lakers until Reddick came in there.
Starting point is 00:30:10 It was just like a revolving door of Mike Brown was even one of them back in the day with Kobe. You know, I will say, though, the one thing I, people are like, oh, should Tibbs be at the parade? That's not going to happen. What I didn't love from McHale Bridge's drunken Instagram Live, which also, by the way, we got to, I want to sign him for a show when he retires called Savage. But he did say, I don't know if you caught this, Max. He took a sneaky little dig at Tibbs. Did you catch it?
Starting point is 00:30:38 No, I don't want to know. He was drunk. No, he just was like with his bottle and his dog and he went, and Landry Shamit. The fuck wasn't Landry Shammit playing at all last year? Why? He's a savage. Look at them. Like that to me was a little bit of a cheap shot.
Starting point is 00:30:53 And then they did release the Dolan video that he talked to the team about telling them 10 weeks don't have sex. And also we wanted to hire a coach that, you know, took feedback from you guys, essentially saying that Tibbs didn't really take any player. It was like his way or the hard way. But I agree with you. Tibbs definitely.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Randall is another name. You got to give a little bit of flowers to. All right. Let's wrap up with a few moments here because then I'm going to give you a statement and a proposal at the end of this. Yeah, my last one is the one I've already talked about. And what was wild was I watched Jalen on Get Up yesterday or one of the ESPN shows. And he brought up the moment too, which is when Josh was on the ground, just sort of like this.
Starting point is 00:31:37 Yeah. And they just rushed around him. And he said it was his favorite moment in the series. And to know, and just like, and that's just what makes him the greatest. Because for him to identify that as the moment of this run, I mean, he's like every fans, coaches, players dream as a teammate, as a player, as a role model. Like, he plays the game in the way that you just aspire to be in life. He's amazing.
Starting point is 00:32:13 So, Matt, I'm going to give a few quick hits before we end this Nick's porn that we've made you just. watch. I love it. But for me, obviously, the OG tip is the thing, right? That's the obvious thing we're all going to talk about. But there's that slow motion video of Brunson and Wembe. And it's like a Cirque de Soleil, like, the way he's just, and Wembe's like a deer on ice just flailing around. And Brunson lays it up.
Starting point is 00:32:37 And every time Brunson had Wembe on him, I thought this was so smart. If you notice, he took a lot of, like, long threes. And he actually made a lot of them. I think the message was like, if Wembe's out here, Shoot the ball because our chances of a rebound increase by 400%. That's why I think he pulled up in that OG shot. He saw Wembe. He's like, oh, you're out here, motherfucker.
Starting point is 00:33:00 You're not under the paint. Go get a rebound. And I think they did that so well. And the last thing for me that'll always stick out, the Spurs committing to the clown circus music, you know, I know they've done it all year. Did you hear any of the opening intros? Matt?
Starting point is 00:33:17 I hated it. I saw you post about this. Like the music for, and they've done this all year long. Like when the visiting team, it's like, dun dun, dun, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, right? Okay, you did it. Game one, you lost. You did it game two, you lost.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Maybe you have an internal meeting at that point with the organization saying, hey, do you want to still commit to the circus music? Then game four happens. You blow the largest lead in finals history, and you still run the circus music out. You are the clowns. You are the clowns at the circus. That's the end of my rant.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Max, I'm going to give you a statement and a proposal. This next team, I don't think we'll go down as one of the greatest teams of all time, right? And when talking about the Bulls, the Warriors, the Lakers, the Celtics. But my statement that I will give, this is the best fourth quarter nuts on the table, money on the line team you are ever going to see. And I dare you to find another team with the fourth quarter that this team plays. That's the statement. Here's the proposal.
Starting point is 00:34:20 We didn't go to any of these playoff games, really. You and I have gone now. Me and Max have gone on dad trips and Sack Horside. We got to go the night they hang the banner. We have to put the request in now. You and I got to sit together. Two of us together is more of a powerful request. They might say, oh, Matt, Jerry, Matt says.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Max is courage. I don't. I disagree. Look, Jerry, I think you, your status in that room I think you underestimate what the history that you have
Starting point is 00:34:55 with that organization That's what I want to be there I wanted to be there for these games But the banner going up I want that's something that I Have to be there for Like I'm gonna pull out all the stops I don't care what I got to do
Starting point is 00:35:08 Because that's no pressure I get to just be happy I don't have to fucking chew my hair off And all that stuff so That's it buddy I'm into it Um, last thing. I know you're back in L.A., but you've been going to France a lot, White Lotus. We're not asking you for spoilers. But... Congrats, dude. Yes. Congrats. It's fucking awesome. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:26 But any... Is there a lot of Wembee jerseys? What's it like watching a playoff game in France when you have the alien? How me you wore a Nix jersey walking around, France? I had my Nix hat on... I had my Nix hat on... I had my Nix hat on the whole time. Yeah. That's right. Um, my issue is that the games are on... two in the morning. Yeah, that's terrible. Terrible. And I watched a lot of them
Starting point is 00:35:54 because I was like, this will be good because I'll keep on L.A. schedule. Right. Right. And we were shooting nights for a minute. So I was like, this is good. This is like, it's perfect. Man, it was tough. Especially because it wasn't San Antonio at that point.
Starting point is 00:36:10 You know, we were, the Knicks were playing. It was like Cleveland. Cleveland, right. And I would turn on these games. It was Philly maybe. And you'd turn on the games, you're like, man, we're up early. I can't, I don't know. Maybe I can just fall asleep.
Starting point is 00:36:24 We're up. Nick's did you a favor going up before me at a half. Or they would, or it would be kind of tight. And I'd fall asleep at halftime. And then all of a sudden I wake up at the morning and be like, oh, okay, cool. We won by 30. Well, congratulations. Both of you, congratulations.
Starting point is 00:36:40 Me and you, courtside, watch the banner go up, watch them get their rings. It has to happen. I'm going to put the request in for us now. Let's do it. I'm in. Hell yeah. I'm in. All right.
Starting point is 00:36:50 And you know what? Listen, as somebody who won their 10-year-old... You got a ring. SBBA champion this year. And Matt, you know, I'm sure you can relate. I know how important those are, buddy. Trust me. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:37:08 Listen, you get to celebrate this all off season. Yes. I can't believe it. I just it's just the just the smile with both of you guys are just and you haven't even really experienced like you haven't come down yet God you guys
Starting point is 00:37:23 Every week you're just like this They live in the dream right now dude Still feel great And you guys are going to bed a champion And waking up a champion You know what it's like Here's what I'll end with this It's like watching one of your friends
Starting point is 00:37:35 You care dearly about Just date the wrong person Over and over And she cheats on them She talks down to him She spends this with just all like the worst girlfriends of all times. And finally,
Starting point is 00:37:47 finally, after all these years, what a nice woman you met. He met a nice woman and they're gonna get married and start a family. He just, I'm so happy for Tom.
Starting point is 00:37:56 He met like, that ended up so good and it looked so bad so many times. That ended up so good. That's the best analogy I can make right now. That's how I feel.
Starting point is 00:38:05 I'm just really, really happy for people I don't even really know. So that's how it goes. Max, come back when you're back. White Lotus, we will not ask you for spoilers, I promise. And enjoy the summer, dude.
Starting point is 00:38:19 It's the summer of orange and blue skies. Unbelievable. Incredible. Thank you guys. All right, big shoutouts. Max Greenfield. Matt, you made it. You're a good sport, bro.
Starting point is 00:38:31 I promise you, if the Dodgers win yet another world series, I will happily sit here and listen to you bloat about how the best franchise of baseball. The fact because you, you especially, you guys are, you're a diehard. Man, you sit through every game from tip off to the last whistle. You are fully invested. So I appreciate when two diehard fans of any sport talk about their team. And then you guys finally got a title, man. A lot of people have asked me, and I think I know your opinion on this.
Starting point is 00:39:00 A lot of people are asking me, you're going to the parade, right? I'm not a parade guy. I'm not a parade guy. I'm going to watch the parade. I want to hear the speeches. Maybe if you lived in New York, you would go to the parade with the kids. I went to the Yankees parade in 96, Matt, took the subway.
Starting point is 00:39:17 We had to wait online once we stepped off the train to walk up this. We had to wait 20 minutes to actually get off the train and walk up the steps into Manhattan. Because there's going to be 3 million people there. But I'm going to watch every minute of it. Yeah. And no offense to anyone going. You know, it's a young man's game, the parade stuff.
Starting point is 00:39:36 That's a young man's game. Really quick before we go. First of all, I'm loving all your golf content. you've been putting on your social, your swings looking good. I know you got some new clubs coming to. Oh, my Calloways are, they've slowly arrived all week. It's been fantastic.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Oh, so you're getting like, here's your wedges, here's your driver. I got like a hybrid and my 60, my Opus Callaway wedges. See, Max, that's what I try to tell people with golf too. If you're like a gear guy, if you like having a thing for every situation, the golf gear is, it's like camping almost. It's like, oh, no, I got the perfect tool for that. here's my 60 degree opus wedge. Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:14 We got the last, I went to the Rider Cup, but the last golf event I went to before that was 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnock. And it was an awesome event to be at. And that is exactly where the U.S. Open is right now. Yeah. I got a feeling, buddy. I got a feeling, just putting this out there,
Starting point is 00:40:34 I got a feeling throwback zone Justin Thomas is going to make a run at this U.S. I feel like you. He's due. He's been playing. playing well. He made a great run at the PGA championship and almost stole the thing. I think our guy, J.T.
Starting point is 00:40:50 is poised for a run. Do you have any feelings? No, but I'm about to go on my app right now and go throw some money down on our boy, J.T. J.T. Do it. Do it. We're going to go look at those odds. Shoutouts. Enjoy the U.S. Open. And also, Matt, I got to say, bro, happy Father's Day, man. Enjoy the weekend. Happy Father's Day to you, man.
