What are let me ask you a question here?'re obviously, you know, we're doing the
red carpet this weekend, which is fired up, and I'm sure we'll talk more about that in
a second. What are you looking forward to most of the Super Bowl this week? Outside
of the red carpet, just anything. When you go to a Super Bowl, what are you looking forward
to the most?
I was excited for a lot of things. Can I just say right currently right now, I'm excited to just get there.
The Ferraris are limping along in twenty twenty five.
We started off the year great.
Went to the Bahamas right after New Year's.
The minute we got back, every kid has been sick.
And I've basically been like the only one who hasn't gotten hit yet.
But currently in the Ferraris household, one kid went down Saturday been sick and I've basically been like the only one who hasn't gotten hit yet.
But currently in the Ferrari household, one kid went down Saturday with that awful stomach
virus.
If you're a parent out there, you know when that stomach thing hits, then the next kid
went down and now currently my wife is down and now I'm just walking around like the CIA
has a hit out on me.
I'm just waiting.
It's just comes from, isn't that the worst?
It's actually, when you know you're the first person
in your family gets hit, you know it's just circulating.
So then I'm at like, I always tell my wife,
I'm like, I just wanna be next.
Just give it to me now so I can get over it.
The fact that you're dodging it,
you're just dodging strays right now,
I don't know if that's a good thing for bad pig.
Three in the morning, when I say it was like,
I got thrown up in my hair, my face, it hit me everywhere.
So basically I'm like walking dead.
I'm waiting, I know I'm gonna turn into a zombie.
I just don't know when.
So I'm hoping just to get there.
Bri's not feeling good.
Bri is out for the count.
I just brought her some water.
She's like, I can't even drink that.
But I ordered us some IVs. I think we need an IV sponsorship. IVs are coming. Dude, I
got to get to this red carpet. By the way, I got, I got even if we hook you up to a freaking
IV Saturday, you're going to be there with me. What if I do an IV on the red carpet?
Would that freak people out? By the way, you do an ivy on the red carpet with those shoes you got right behind you, a New
York Knicks jersey and a hat. Are you kidding me? I see you with your Lakers shirt. We are gonna talk.
We have to talk. It is a trade. Yeah. Wow. It just has to happen. We're gonna hit all that. And
obviously we're gonna talk about the actual Super Bowl and the game itself. Yeah, last thing on the kid front,
I had a little bit of an embarrassing moment,
so both the kids are healed up and went back to school
for the first time in days.
I have a five-year-old, three-year-old,
the three-year-old, my five-year-old loves to go to school.
He was mad he had to stay home sick, which is unheard of.
Three-year-old now knows like, hey, if I'm sick,
I stay home from school.
He's developed a fake cough.
It's a horrible performance from the son of two actors
you think he would know how to,
I'm like, buddy, you're not fooling anyone.
The fake stomachache.
He said he had to stay home because he swallowed a penny.
So Bri and I yesterday had to conduct a full investigation
to make sure this kid didn't swallow a penny.
But finally we get to school today,
I had to walk them in because we're late, of course.
That's what happens.
Five year old runs in and a little three year old's
over there smiling, and he whispers, he goes,
Dad, I brought so many toys with me.
I went, what?
You can't have toys in school?
I'm like, where are they?
I have to take his jacket off.
I pat him down like he's under arrest.
Buzz Lightyear, Lightning McQueen,
he had four matchbox cars in his pocket.
Just in his pockets.
Loaded up, so he's the one,
he's the one that is gonna be the kid
who tries to drop out of school in first grade.
That sounds like me when I was little,
when I was super fat I used to hide popsicles in my pockets.
A popsicle?
I used to hide, not to school, but I used to put them in my pockets. I used to hide popsicles. I used to hide not to school, but I used to,
I used to put them in my pockets. And I hear them, dude. I'm a fan. I mean, I used to put popsicles
in my pockets, run outside, eat them really fast, put the trash back in my pocket and then throw.
I was probably nine, eight, seven. This was when you were fat liner, fat liner? No, this one,
I was fat Matt, dude, fat matte.
So.
I love that we both have a history of being bigger.
You being much taller.
It's funny like these three and five, both ages are just so fun because our little ones
are the same.
Just like sneaky kind of just like he, but Cannon will just, will literally take his
hot wheels to school too.
He'll take a nerf gun
I said, bro, we can't take a school dude. Do not do that. We cannot take nerf guns, but daddy. It's not real
It's like nerf. I'm like, yeah, we can't do that
But yeah, I mean it's fun. I'm sorry you guys are going through that dude. That is hell. It's it's just yeah
You just don't know when it's gonna happen. It's just gonna hit you at some point. Hopefully it doesn't
Hopefully I get a hundred percent of Jerry this weekend in New Orleans. I can't make you go so imagine if
You just get like I go down it right before the fanatics party and you have to be solo on the carpet
Listen, man. Do you try to find a replacement or do you go solo? I can't replace you. I just go solo
I'll just take I'll listen
You get if that happens. I will I will be there. I will rock it like you I bring car in it
So we have some people I feel like it could fill it
Maybe I'll yeah, I'll just get I'll just pull someone from the red carpet and be like, dude
You want to do this with me? Maybe that'll be a giveaway too
Hey, you could co-host the throwbacks from the red carpet if you're at that point
I'll just be taking I'll just be taking questions from like X or something and just be like,
hey, what do you guys want me to ask,
you know, Gronk and Julian, you know, whatever.
So.
You're gonna be good, dude, we're gonna make it.
I see you with your Lakers shirt, okay.
I know everybody and their mother
has commented on this trade, but we haven't yet
because we air on Thursdays.
And as we're airing this now,
the trade deadline is coming, it's Thursday,
so we don't know what has happened just yet
if there's gonna be more.
But as of right now, how did you get the news
and how did you feel first reaction right away?
Well, I was laying, I was, what was I doing?
I was-
It was about 9.20, low,
because for me it was like almost 12.
So I was, there's a lot going on in liner house over the past week.
Okay. And I'm going to save it.
I'm going to save it for next week.
But I was having a moment with the wife.
I didn't have my phone for about, you know, I I'm guilty.
I have my phone on me a lot.
You know, it's one of the things that 2025 I'm like, you know, just,
it was especially when I'm with my, all my kids and whatever, like put it away for a bit. But I didn't have it. We were having
a moment we're talking about, you know, just getting ready, obviously getting ready to
have a baby and all of these types of things. And like about 30 minutes after we're talking,
I just looked at my phone and I had like 35 text messages. Yeah. From all my as you can
imagine, like all my boys, Luca to the Lakers.
I'm like, I had the same reactions to everybody else.
I'm like, I literally was like, what the fuck?
Like for AD, like it just was bizarre.
So then I'm like, and then I go,
oh babe, Luca Donchus just got traded Lakers.
I need to look at my phone.
She's like, who?
I said, Luca Donchus.
I said, this is a massive deal.
This is huge.
And she goes, more important than like having a baby.
I said, honestly, it is right up there.
Like right now with the news.
Oh yeah, it was hysterical.
So that's how I got it.
And then like anybody else,
I just opened up the articles, started reading.
And at that point it was just like,
Luca traded to LA for Anthony Davis and Christie
and a pick and all that kind of stuff.
So there wasn't a lot of detail behind it. So like you and everybody else, I was just like, what?
Why? How? What was this about? And then after, you know, the last couple of days, I still
can't wrap my head around it. Like I still, you know, I still there's a lot of conspiracy
theories out there. Reasons why and all this stuff. But I will say this, I love AD.
He won us a championship in 2020.
He's a beast.
I know there's been injuries and all that kind of stuff.
He's been having a great year.
He's unbelievable this year.
I will miss AD.
I was always an AD fan.
There's a lot of AD haters out there.
I thought he was fantastic.
But Luca Donci's to the Lakers for the next 10 years.
It's unbelievable.
So yeah, my fall blew up.
You've been salty this week, by the way.
You've just been salty.
Maybe that's because you got to,
you just salty on X about Lakers maybe getting,
going after Mitchell Robinson and-
I love that, it's so stupid.
It's so stupid. And you're as you're blaming.
It's always like the rich get richer, right?
Like the how?
No, it's not the rich get richer.
It's the people on X don't watch anything else but their other team.
Like and I get it.
You don't have maybe time to watch or follow along.
What's going on with the Mitch Robinson?
Been heard a lot, too, dude.
And you've been you've been defending him like, well, we better get a lot for him.
I said, what do you I never said we better get a lot. for him I said what do you I'm saying we also need a center so you have
two teams who are now without a big man that they very much although I have no
problems with Jackson Hayes right now who is healthy which is one of the best
available things but everyone on Twitter when the report came out the Lakers are
the thing that made me so salty X got a little bit ridiculous I mean X is a available things. But everyone on Twitter, when the report came out, the Lakers are the
thing that made me so salty. X got a little bit ridiculous. I mean, X is a ridiculous
thing in general. But with the like, oh, the Lakers are targeting Mitchell Robinson, the
Golden State Warriors targeted everybody in the entire NBA president president. They were
connected to everyone. They're not going to get anyone who knows. Maybe they get Durant.
But Laker fans go, oh, we're going after Mitchell Robinson now.
Like, first of all, you guys don't have anything left.
You're covered as bear.
You have one pick left.
We have a pick.
Which you're not going to give.
You're not going to give that for Mitchell Robinson.
I wouldn't expect you to give the 20-31 first round pick for a player who's always hurt.
So that's not happening.
Are you going to give us Jackson Hayes back?
Because we need a center too.
The only person...
We've been in the center market before you guys were
in the center market.
Is now our friend of throwbacks, Austin Reeves.
And I don't want to get rid of Austin Reeves.
But a lot of teams would take Austin Reeves.
Imagine if Austin Reeves went to the Knicks.
But would you do, by the way, you
wouldn't trade Austin Reeves for Mitchell Robinson either.
So it just was a dumb thing.
It's people who read the headline.
No, I get it.
Don't pay attention.
I don't think the rich get richer.
I'm still...
There's actually, there's been a lot of interesting
conspiracies on why this happened.
D Wade actually had the interesting one.
I'm sure you said that about the...
He basically said that because of the NBA and obviously the,
it's down, right?
The ratings and all this kind of stuff his thought was
The own this came about that for D. Wade said this hi. I missed this
I love yeah, you look it up right now this kid or Andrew put the article put the article in the chat
We can open it up
This came above the GM in my opinion. I don't think a smart GM, what's a GM's name?
I'm blanking.
Nico Harrison.
Okay, Nico Harrison.
You're trying to tell me that that general manager
did that deal and be like, we're not getting enough back,
it's okay.
That came, for me, I feel like that came from above him
and say, this is happening, we're gonna do it.
It has to.
It has to.
No, of course ownership.
D-Way talked about the TV and the billion
dollar TV deal and how the MB ratings have been bad and this and that. And in his way
was what basically wasn't surprised if the billionaires came together and just said,
let's let's let's trade Luca to LA. The outside of New York, the biggest market in MB to the
Lakers, the most storied program, maybe in NBA history,
jersey sales, ticket sales, exposure to Europe and Spain.
Read the article, you can read it right now.
It was, the quote was actually fairly interesting.
I'm not saying that's the reason why, but why?
You mean to tell me that you think the GM,
the guy just led the Dallas Mavericks
to the NBA finals a year ago.
I don't care if he was 270 or 290.
I think Shaq came out this week and said him at 270 is better than 99.9%
of every guard in the NBA.
Yeah.
And he's like six, nine to six, one, two, seven.
Yeah, there's some six foot nine.
There's something behind it.
I think everybody feels the same.
Why is the question?
I don't, I don't buy that. I don't necessarily buy it either.
I guess the moral of the story is maybe they're final.
Finally, we have LeBron fatigue.
Because if you look at the Lakers,
it's not like the Lakers don't have two superstars
and aren't must-see TV.
They have LeBron friggin' James and Anthony Davis.
Do they need to be better?
Do the Lakers need to be better?
Meaning, is it better if the Lakers
are in the Western Conference Finals,
not getting bounced in the first round every year
since the bubble?
Yeah, that would be better.
They've just, because the regular season for the Lakers
has been so unsuccessful,
whether it's health or LeBron getting up there in age,
they keep getting in the play-in game,
then they run into the Nuggets in the first round,
when they're playing the Picasso of centers of all time and yokich
So I just don't unless you're saying to me a even the Lakers numbers are down LeBron's not drawn an audience
So let's put Luca there, but I can't get around that because maybe it is better for overall business
But if you own the Mavericks, I know you want the league to be healthy and the TV deals good for everyone,
but you want, this is your team.
Read this article, and it's interesting
because the owners are different dudes, whatever.
My question, and this is what's been talked about all week,
and you've heard Yannis, you've heard Booker, you've heard-
Booker's been very ass-fucking.
You've heard Ant-Man.
Entering the era. This is, I don't think, by the way, Booker, you've heard Ant-Man.
This is, I don't think, by the way,
it's smart by the NBA, like that's all people
are talking about right now in the Super Bowls coming up.
I've never, and I love, the NBA trade deadline is awesome.
I love it every year.
I think it's just like, you just wake up,
you're like, oh my God, this is happening,
this is happening.
This year just feels different.
And the biggest question, Jerry, is who's safe, who's not?
That, to me, is the biggest thing,
is it feels like anybody now at any moment.
Now, Jokic isn't getting traded this year, whatever.
But isn't that bizarre?
Anybody is free game.
It really poked a hole in my NFL needs
to have a lottery on this weekend because there's nothing else to do
Because the NBA didn't even wait for the trade deadline
Maybe you could get me on that conspiracy to of like hey, we're not even gonna wait for the trade deadline
Let's do it now and own the weekend. I don't really subscribe to any of this conspiracy stuff. I really don't
Going even back to Patrick Ewing frozen envelope theater like sure today's day there's
too many people talking with too many outlets to hold any secrets if there ever was any
of that stuff.
Luca Donchich to the Lakers was a secret.
It was a secret because they didn't talk to other teams.
That's why they well if they would have went out.
So this is part of how I want to be able to move a superstar like that without anybody knowing.
I don't care if you didn't talk to anybody. I'm telling you, that's just never been heard of.
Well, if you're the Lakers, you're not going to talk because, you know, if you leak it, you could screw it.
Dallas certainly isn't going to talk. So I actually like the trade for Dallas.
I do too.
But the problem is they should have just gotten more from
the Lakers. I don't really even care as a like I feel for the Dallas fans by the way.
I really, really do. I will be rooting for Dallas in the West just because I feel for
those fans because I know that's such a connection to Luca. And if Jaden Burntzen got traded,
I would feel horrible too. So I'm rooting for the Mavs. But go around the NBA, Matt.
I've tried.
What packages out there will any of these other teams have that you could say is better
than what the Lakers should have given?
Because the Lakers should have also given the 2031 and Dalton Connect.
The package should have been bigger from the Lakers,
but in terms of AD, Christie and a first,
AD's worth what, at least three unprotected firsts?
That's the reason why this came above the general manager,
because I don't think any sane general manager
would do that deal without getting more in return.
Right.
The GM has a relationship with AD clearly,
and I think he loves AD.
And when AD is healthy, he's arguably a top five player in the league, The jet DGM has a relationship with AD clearly and I think he loves AD and when
it when AD is healthy he's arguably a top five player in the league like best
two-way big like he's he's phenomenal I'm with the NBA like no I get it has a
package what are you gonna call like New Orleans and get Zion and five
unprotected firsts no no you know Are you gonna go to Miami and get four unprotected firsts
and Jimmy Butler? No.
The Brooklyn Nets only have picks.
You could have probably put something together for Durant.
I mean, you could have put something together
to package a couple players in another program.
All right, but I love Durant.
I love Kevin Durant.
He's 36.
Like how, like, how much-
He's 31, 32.
I get it.
I'm just letting you know.
I'm sure if they would have called other teams
And other teams who were what else does phoenix have besides durant? They don't have picks. They're out of picks
They don't have like so
Is that a better package than what the lakers got?
Well, I think dallas did was say we don't want five mid to late first round picks because if you trade luca
To a team odds are that team's to win 48 to 50 games by accident. So we don't want five first round picks. They're going
to end up being 23 overall for the next five years. And they wanted a player. They wanted
the top 10 player and a pick. I'm very high on Max Christie. He destroyed the Knicks Saturday
night. And he was really good the other night in Philly, even though they didn't win the
game. So they just should have gotten more from the Lakers. That's a good player. And he was really good the other night in Philly even though they didn't win the game. So they just shouldn't have gotten more from the Lakers. Can you imagine?
Can you imagine? I know Rob Polinka fairly well when I see him. His kids played my flag football
league. He's already dressing like a bad guy. I mean I'm not texting with them obviously but
can you imagine being Rob Polinka and getting that call?
I think there was an article that came out and said,
hey, we're gonna shop Luca, are you interested?
However it went and Rob's probably-
Stop breaking my balls.
Yeah, what do you want?
Let's talk, we want AD, Max Christie,
and maybe one of your first.
And he goes, are you serious?
And this is the thing.
I love the trade for both teams in the sense for Dallas,
that roster in my opinion, I love Dallas,
cause I love Luca, I love Kyrie.
And let's see if they're done.
They may not be done.
They might not be done.
What if they get Durant?
That team, even the team now with Kyrie and PJ Washington
and all the size they have an AD if healthy that clay that that team can win a championship right now for sure.
That team can win a championship right now. The Lakers, you know, we're gonna find out if they get a center, obviously, they need it. They need size Jackson Hayes might be okay now given an opportunity, but they need somebody.
size Jackson Hayes might be okay now given an opportunity, but they need somebody. Lakers got better in their way, but they also just got better for the next 10 years.
That's assuming Luca resigns all that there's a lot that has to happen.
But I love the move because it was the first time now that they're thinking outside of
LeBron and they're thinking for what's best with the future.
And LeBron even said that this week too. As a Laker fan, I love it.
Luca's must see TV, he's a hell of a player
and he's only 25 years old, which is-
Well, in honor of this, our throwback three this week
is gonna be stunning trades.
So that'll be our throwback three.
You and I will list off.
I almost wanna take this one out
cause number one, it's probably the number one,
but also in the generation we're in now,
where we could talk about it to thousands of people
via Twitter and Instagram and all that,
it's definitely the most talked about trade I've ever seen.
Couple of things for Luca that's gonna be interesting.
Number one, obviously the fit with LeBron.
I know a lot of people have been like,
it's gonna be awesome.
Some people have said it's gonna suck because they both need the ball.
You have two of the smartest IQ basketball players of all time. Yes, defense might not be as good.
They said that about Kyrie and Luca too, and look what happened. Yes. Two ball-dominant guards.
So, but they would not lost in all this. I like what my boy Chandler Parsons was putting out there.
I don't know because you know, he obviously knows the Mavericks organization well from back in the day.
It really did not seem like Luca knew and was like saying, hey, I'm not.
He, Luca, in his own interview, said, never said I'm not signing the Supermax.
This just happened.
Bought the house. But then also he loses out in the Supermax.
And then, you know this,'t even know then you get that
That California state tax. Ooh, so he really got hit Jerry
Matt if I took away he lost a hundred million dollars, though. I know he's not
300 million you're good, dude. You're good. Listen small thought you're good
Here's what I'm talking about for Luca to me everyone's like, oh, maybe this will motivate him Luca does not need to be motivated on the court when that dude's playing. He's a beast. He's super competitive
He's talking shit to everybody
He took the Mavs to the finals way for Lakers Mavs playoffs
Oh, I do think this could motivate him for the off-the-court stuff and who better to be there than the guy who spends like
1.5 mil
He's gonna put Luca in a hyperbaric chamber. By the way, LeBron is Lucas Idol that this is is the perfect as a
Laker fan it is perfect because Lucas Idol LeBron and it was Kobe
Kobe was he even talked about Kobe in the press conference. Yep
He's going to be around maybe the greatest ever play,
right, top two or three, who takes care of his body,
all the things that you talked about.
And maybe he can just instill some of that wisdom
and advice and this is how you can do it, man,
for the next 15 years.
And you could be a Laker and you can be one
of the greatest Lakers to ever play.
And you guys got Maxie Kleber,
you guys got Maxie Kleber too.
I cannot believe the Lakers
fucking look at Don't you. Holy shit. That 77. Will you get it for the kids or you gonna rock
the 77 jersey? Because I know how you feel about that jersey stuff. Listen, I have my old school
Kobe jersey. You know, I don't cheat on Kobe. I got, well, I got a sign Kobe that says to Matt.
I got mama mentality, but I might have to get me a
Luca jersey there's no doubt there's no doubt that'll be my pajamas we're gonna
talk NFL God what a week minute be a Laker NFL is coming up but now it's time
for dynamic duos presented by Wendy's two faves for just seven bucks gotta be
Wendy's terms apply each week Matt and and I throw at throwbacks. We pick a category for our all time favorite duo. We've done, you know, Golden Globe hosts.
We've done a lot of last week. We did TV parents this week because it's the Lakers and we're
all talking about it. We're going to go our all time Lakers duo and dynamic duos. I'm
going to clear the floor for you cause I have a few candidates here,
but I feel like yours is the one that matters
cause you're a bigger fan.
Although, I've been around the Lakers for 20 years.
This is not even as a Laker fan.
My dad would disagree cause my dad would be more old school.
That's for sure.
Let me just set the table really quick.
Outside of the Celtics, I wouldn't even,
maybe the Knicks, maybe the Knicks. When you look at the Lakers and you look at this and you go back and you just say duos or players, it is unbelievable the amount of Hall of Famers and just some greatest of all time.
If you go top 25 greatest NBA players of all time, put LeBron in that list, right?
If you consider him a Laker, all that, Luca, when it again, obviously nowadays these guys
bounce around.
So they probably have, they probably have 10 dudes.
It supports what Dwayne was saying.
They always have the guy. They always have ten dudes. It supports what D-Way was saying. They always have the guy.
They always have it.
So my point is when you do some of this and you can talk about like Jerry West and Baylor
and Wilt Chamberlain back in the day, that's way before my time.
And not enough rings in my opinion, not enough rings.
It's Kobe and Shaq.
You would probably agree considering
we are in the same era of watching basketball.
Arguably the greatest duo of all time.
Jordan Pippen is the one, arguably.
And I was looking this up, I remember clear's day,
like the early 2000s, the last major sports team,
the three P, the Chiefs going for that this weekend. The most dominant player of all time and Shaquille O'Neal. In my opinion, one a
one B to Jordan Kobe Bryant think he's the I think he's in more in the argument than
LeBron is the greatest player of all time. And it is a shame on that one day. I like
that. We'll do an episode on that.
The whole Goat, I don't know.
I look at it, the whole Goat talk is another thing.
It's so personal.
And honestly, it's your personal opinion.
I think it's so old and all that.
LeBron is great.
LeBron, maybe the greatest athlete of all time, like what he's been able to do.
Tom Brady, I would say like Tom Brady played a 45 in the NFL.
It's like ridiculous.
I'm just saying the closest thing to Jordan
is Kobe Bryant. It's not even close. It's the type of game, the killer, all of that. Anyway,
I was, I was, I remember a lot of this clear as day because I was 18, 19 years old, diehard Laker fan, watched every playoff game and they won the three P and then I started thinking like, man,
what if, right? That was the whole thing. And that's what Shaq would say now. And obviously,
Kobe's not with us anymore,
which is just still unfathomable to even think that happened.
The riff and the feud and all the little things
that happened, and I was looking it up
and Phil Jackson got like fine them
because they were talking shit to each other.
There was just so many different things.
I'm like, man, if they would have put their egos aside,
they probably, I mean, that's one of those things.
There wasn't an if, it was like, they would have won two or three.
They probably get six.
They probably get five or they definitely get five or six.
They would definitely get, they would definitely get one or two more and they won three.
And then, I mean, Kobe got to five without Shaq.
So, and Shaq got the one with D Wade in Miami.
So to me, they're, they're maybe the greatest duo of all time.
They're the most dominant player of all time. Arguably the greatest of all time in the conversation
of the top three in my opinion. And yeah, I mean that when I think of Lakers, I think
I think I do think of magic and Kareem. I think that's the other one. But they got five
of them things. They're ridiculous, but it's Kobe and Shaq, man. It is Kobe.
I agree.
So I'm not going to really one up.
All I'll say is, though, a very important one that came along
that does almost feel similar to this, although he was not
nearly as good or famous like box office globally as Luka.
The Lakers getting pal.
Another player no one knew was available.
No one, the trade happened and GMs were like,
wait a minute, Gasol's event, what do you mean?
Like what happened?
Noah, yeah.
When Shaq left, we were miserable.
I remember those teams, three or four years just miserable.
You had, we drafted, Chris Mim was a starting center.
There's no disrespect to anybody,
but we just didn't have any players.
And in the Shaq trade, we got Lamar Odom,
we got a couple guys, but we just like,
it just never materialized.
And it was just Kobe, it was like,
I think he got to the playoffs a couple of times,
but we were just, weren't very good.
And that was when we lost, I think we lost to Phoenix Suns
in that, cause I was in Arizona, I remember, I think we lost the Phoenix Suns in that,
cause I was in Arizona.
I remember I think we lost the Phoenix when they had the,
they were running and gunning that Marion and Amari Stoudemire and Steve Nash.
But then we got pow. And I remember Kobe was like,
Kobe needed a big cause that was the whole triangle offense and they needed a
big and pow gosh, I mean, hall of Famer,
more one of the more underrated players of all time.
Like Pao was unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
Perfect player for Kobe.
Perfect player too.
And then they had the right pieces around them.
You had the right pieces around them and they won, you know, what, two more.
Two more.
Rick Fah, yeah.
Odom, big Odom.
So.
So you got Shaq and Kobe.
I do, only because I witnessed it, But I, you know, Magic and I started I'm a little older than you.
So I do remember the very, very tail end of Magic and Kareem and Showtime.
But the first real finals that I watched where I was like so dialed in was Lakers Bulls with
Magic and no Kareem.
So you know, my dad, my dad always says that says your dad say Magic and Kareem. Oh, you know, I had my dad. My dad always says that says
your dad say magic and Kareem.
Oh, for sure. Just like you say,
my mom and I'll be right in a lot of these the great,
but we would always, we would always say this.
I said, this whole conversation, I said, pop magic.
You think magic's going to guard Kobe magic can't guard Kobe.
And he's like, you think Kobe could guard magic magic six,
nine, he'll post them up. I can guard Magic? Magic's six, nine. He'll post him up.
I said, okay, well, Kobe's six, six.
And then I said, you think, I said, you think Shaq,
you think Kareem is gonna be able to, you know,
box out Shaq?
Shaq can dunk all, he's like, you think Shaq's
gonna block Kareem's sky hook?
What is he gonna do with that sky hook?
It's a great conversation.
I said, Pop, I said, Kareem,
you could put Kareem as the greatest player of all time too. I
mean he was the point. Like Kareem is unbelievable, right? And the skyhook was unblockable. But
Kareem was 7-2, 7-1, 200 pounds. Shaq was 7-1, 320 pounds. And in his prime, like you
can't stop him. You could not stop him. And you can't tell me Kareem was keeping him out of the low post
Like no one no no one was
Well, so anyway shout outs to Wendy's that's our dynamic duo. Oh wait. This is like great
This is just a Lakers episode this well
We're gonna take we're gonna take a break come back and talk about NFL, but don't think it goes unnoticed that since this podcast has happened
Dodgers win a championship, they're signing
everybody. Now the Lakers, like there's, we might have to end this show because too many
good things are happening to the Lakers. I'm for it.
There's so many things I want to do and see. Like redoing the basement without having to
do it all myself. Or doing absolutely nothing.
With a spectacular waterfall view, of course.

All right, we're back. We actually got into a little bit of a heated podcast discussion
off the air. We did the podcast before the podcast. So we're just going to bring you up
to speed before we dive in on this, we will. We were talking about the calls and the chiefs obviously, people believe that they get calls.
I thought, I am not for like shock journalism, like those dudes who got into the press conference
and asked Kelsey, would you grab?
That's just, look, some people love that stuff.
That stuff goes viral, everyone saw it.
And then even asking like, to me,
that doesn't do it for me.
That's not the shit I wanna see.
I see it on my timeline, and it for me is cringe.
No, those guys should be banned.
Yeah, that was all BS, that was all cringy.
It's cringe.
Yeah, it's stupid.
But, and then we were talking to our esteemed producer,
Andrew Gundling, who's a big Eagles fan.
We were talking about the Chiefs and the calls,
and then
the previous Super Bowl came up with the holding call on Bradbury against Juju.
Was that not holding Matt Liner? Those of you listening or watching pull up the play on YouTube.
It was like a clear holding. But that wasn't called all game. And there's holding calls.
but that wasn't called all game. And there's holding calls.
My thing is refs miss calls all the time
and they make calls.
It happens throughout a game, it's sports.
Being a ref is nearly impossible
to get the right call every time.
But you think the Chiefs are on the better end.
But look at the spot with Josh Allen,
I thought that was a clear first down.
A clear first down, even after replay.
I think the argument is that
It feels like they get a lot of calls in the most opportune times needed
and the games
Whether another team Josh Allen that one is a perfect example
I am I I've been in enough sporting events live. You certainly have.
You certainly have.
I've been on the sidelines.
I've seen good calls.
I've seen bad calls.
I'm always the one that said,
Bills did enough to win that game.
Don't do the tush push 19 times and not get.
Right.
There's, so I'm always on the other side.
Do they get a little favoritism?
Eh, maybe, maybe they get, maybe. Tom Brady got a lot of calls in his day.
MJ got a lot of calls.
Great greatness gets calls.
I think that's-
They get the benefit of the doubt.
If it's close-
They get the benefit of the doubt.
So is there something like that going on?
Maybe here and there.
But to say that they're getting these calls
and it's every week, I don't buy it.
I'm not on that wagon.
I think the chiefs, and they proved it again in clutch time.
We talked about it last week.
They had the two, maybe the two greatest in-game play
callers on both sides of the ball that we've seen.
They have one of the best players to ever do it
and they find ways to win all the time.
So I'm not in that.
I just, I do think it's gonna be interesting
to see again in this Super Bowl
if there's a couple questionable calls that go their way.
Yeah, because so let's put a theory together.
If we're saying, not when, if we're pretend saying
that the NFL would really like for the Chiefs
to be in the Super Bowl for whatever ratings,
Taylor Swift, whatever, if we're saying all that
and they always get the benefit of the doubt, all right, the Chiefs are here now. They're in the Super Bowl for whatever ratings, Taylor Swift, whatever. If we're saying all that and they always get to benefit
it out, all right, the Chiefs are here now.
They're in the Super Bowl.
Do they actually want the Chiefs to win?
Do they want, will they go as far as to say,
like we want them on that podium?
I think they want a close game.
That's all really anyone cares about.
Right.
If you go back to the Bradbury hold on Juju,
and we were talking to Andrew about this on our quick break
Yes, it was a clear holding. No, there hasn't been any holding calls up until that point
But if you go back and watch I watched a few
Moments from because that play is pretty iconic
There wasn't tons of
Intended receivers where the ball went to them and it was like oh there was a clear holding and they just didn't call it
I'm sure there's holding going on off the ball,
every single play, that's not getting called,
but in that moment, you're saying,
how could you call it?
It's in front of the world.
We saw where the ball went.
But do you know how, holding is,
holding amongst offensive line, defensive line, DBs.
All day long.
It's all day long.
So when you don't call it all game,
and it's not super blatant, that's the thing.
It's like, is it a blatant hold
when it's slowed down and in your face?
I mean, you could call that 57 times a game, dude,
if we just slow mowed every damn hold.
But in that moment, a little pick pocket,
a little hold, a little tug on the jersey,
and then you play, in that moment,
it's like, how could you call that
in that moment when you haven't called it all game that is a serious argument that's on all by the
way that's probably when the chiefs teams teams put in plays they send plays to the league office
every week yeah missed missed uh missed penalties or targeting or whatever whatever it is they send
and say this is b, this didn't happen.
And they basically fight some of those things.
Chiefs do that too, but I'm just saying that
it just feels like, and now this is so like,
it's under the microscope, right?
With the Chiefs, especially in the playoffs,
that they just, they get some of those breaks that
you just look at that.
Brad Berry admitted, he said, yeah, it was a penalty.
I think there's a bigger argument of when they played,
what was it, the Texans, and there were a couple
phantom roughing the passer calls.
That to me is the reason why, again,
this has all started in this play.
I don't even look at-
It doesn't help that Holmes is flopping
to get a lot of those, which goes on in every sport,
and he's mastered it, and he's kind of flopping to help it out.
But you can't flop in the NBA anymore. Right? Isn't it? They enforce that rule for like the
first two weeks. And then once a month, they'll say, hey, we got to call one more. This is
why I just want to go back to the 80s and 90s. Do then just let them just I'm with you.
Oh, Bose. I do think that the Chiefs probably are on the better end of things, but I can't say
that it's like some thing that the league is.
It's not an NFL rigged thing.
The NFL is not rigged.
It's not.
And I'm with that.
I don't think the ratings would be crazy low if it was Bill's Eagles.
I think they'd be right up there.
Maybe you lose the Taylor Swift casual fan who maybe
Want like I still think that that TV is on and those people are watching so that's my two
No, I think listen I I work at Fox Fox has the game
We just yeah, they want a good Super Bowl to end and on the last play of the game. I'll tell you that that's for sure
Okay, let's take a look. Let's hit a few. Let's hit a few things
we're gonna talk a talk in a lot more detail
on the Fanatics red carpet once we're in New Orleans.
And we're gonna have tons of athletes
to maybe get some of their feedback to
and some of their takes.
But right now it's our moment here.
Do you have a rooting interest,
other than a good game, cause of Fox?
Like, would you like, are you,
do you wanna see the 3P?
Or some people root,
I think that's part of the fun of sports.
I was rooting against the Warriors in that amazing run.
Just cause it was fun to root against them.
I wasn't mad when they won, but I wanted to see it stopped.
So where do you line up with three Pete verse,
do you want to see it stopped?
Gosh, I don't, I don't, lazy answers I really don't care, to be honest with you. I like to see,
I wrote for guys more like I would, I would love to see Saquon and this is, I would love to say
Saquon won a Superbowl. I love Saquon, I think he's a great dude. I'd love, I'd love to see
new players experience that, that's something some of those guys haven't experienced.
You know, AJ Brown, like some of these guys,
like Jaylen Hurts, like experiencing that is,
we were close to experience that in Arizona, but we didn't.
So for that part, it's just like,
there's no bigger feeling in sport
to be able to say you're a Super Bowl champ.
I also, and I said it last week, I appreciate greatness.
I respect, I love Andy Reid.
I wish I would have been able to play for him.
Like he's just one of the greatest.
I love my homes.
There's, to me, there's nothing unlikable about the Chiefs.
I love Kelsey.
I love those guys.
Like that's the thing is like, they're not unlikable to me.
I love Chris Jones.
I think that people are just tired.
It's just the tired thing, right? They're tired of seeing it. So again,
I'll be happy either way. I root for, I do root for a great game. I'd love to see
Saquon go off and I'd love, I'd love, I would love to see this is what I'd love to see.
What's your ideal experience as a civilian? I would love to see it reversed and I would love to see
I would love to see it reversed and I would love to see Jalen Hurts with the ball with a minute and a half to win the game.
Because we know Mahomes.
Spagnolo is going to blitz off the edge for guys.
We saw that.
We saw that.
And, and I would like to see that scenario played itself out a couple minutes left.
And it's not because again, if Mahomes gets the ball down
three, or down three points or whatever,
six points with two minutes left,
they're going to win the game.
We've seen that story be written multiple times.
I want to see Jaylen Hurts have that opportunity
and go down and win the game.
My thing is, for a viewing experience,
if the Eagles are going to beat the Chiefs,
the way I would like
to see it is stop Patrick Mahomes with a minute left up three or whatever up six then do it.
Do the thing that everyone said can't be done because then you have to get you have to stand
up and clap whether you love the Eagles or hate them and I don't particularly care for
them but if they do that you have to clap it up and for the Eagles I mean gosh they
would I know they lost to Mahomes,
but they will have beaten Brady in the Super Bowl.
And they went a long time without Super Bowl wins.
And then this, if they could,
but that's the way I would wanna see it.
I would wanna see Mahomes down three or six with the ball,
with a minute to go and a timeout and say,
what do you got?
What do you got?
I'm telling you what, if there's a team, I mean,
the Eagles are dominant, the Eagles have been dominant all year. And the story is really
the more the narrative this year was Jalen and hers, they can't throw the ball there.
Yeah. Disgruntled AJ Brown, whatever. Okay. You have the best running back in the game
right now. You have a dominant offensive line. You have a dominant defense and a defense line. Well, that's what we're going to go like,
we're going to go.
It is.
It is.
It is.
Right now.
If there's a team, I think if, I would say this,
if there's a team ever that we've seen that should be able
to slow and beat the Chiefs, it's this year's Eagles
based on how they're built. Up front, dominant,
a dominant run game to control the ball.
They have big time guys on the outside with AJ Brown.
They have everybody.
And Jalen Hurts and the playoffs is fantastic.
So they are built to win.
Let's do some fun, let's just go unit by unit.
Who we think has the edge.
None of this might factor in,
but I think it's a fun way to look at a game.
Now we'll start with something I'm not as familiar with, but I
think I have a feel for what unit has what team has the better special teams unit. And
I mean, I could care less about specials. I know, but it is going to come up. Elliot's
had a little bit of a rough year. Cooper Cooper has been good return to punts. Philly's forced
to fumbles on kickoffs. I'm going to give slight, I call it a wash, cause I just think- I mean Harrison Bucker is the best,
I mean he's the best kicker in the league,
especially in the playoffs.
Now let's get some more fun stuff, okay?
Yeah, we'll move on from specialty.
Who has the coaching advantage?
Andy Reid.
Andy Reid.
He's chiefs.
Who has the quarterback advantage?
Next.
Okay. And I mean this, it's just, I mean this is no slide on some of the- Offensive line. Next. Okay.
I mean, it's just, I mean,
there's no slide on some of the-
Offensive line.
Oh, Eagles.
Okay.
The Chiefs though line has gotten better,
but the Eagles have the best offense line in football.
Now the next two are the hard, well, this is a fun one.
I think I know which way you'll go.
Skill positions.
You got Saquon, AJ, Devante. I mean, it's just, I would say, gosh. Kareem Hunt's been
fantastic by the way. A little story not a lot of people are talking about. He's been
awesome since he's been coming back and being the guy. Yeah. He's taken over. I mean, Pacheco's,
you know, spells him now. Um, I would, this one's tough. I would lean, I
lean the Eagles same, because they have a freaking running
back. A lot of talent. They just have a lot of time. I mean, AJ
Brown is the best receiver on the field. Devante Smith might
be the second or third best receiver on the field. If you
talk about I mean, D hop is great, you know, he's not much
of the offense and, and, you know, is worthy as young and all those things. Kelsey's Kelsey, but I think just pure skill,
like Goddard's been phenomenal. You would lean that the thing about the cheese man is just,
you know, you have the best tight end ever play who turns it on the playoffs.
And you have just so many guys that that always step up and make a play.
So on paper, yeah, I think it's the Eagles,
but in the moments, Worthy will step up.
You know, Juju Smith, he's gonna step up in this game.
D-Hop hasn't been much of the offense at all,
may make a big, I mean, he's still one of the best
receivers to ever play.
I'm definitely betting him to score a touchdown,
just based off of his Instagram post.
I don't care, I'm going with the emotion of it.
I think it depends on the circumstance and the situation. I think on paper it's the Eagles.
I would lean the Eagles, but yeah, man.
This one, I think it's pretty, it's closer than you think. D-line, front four, front
seven push. Who do you got?
I would say the Eagles.
Eagles too, but you can't discount.
Chris Jones is a game wrecker, but so is Jalen Carter.
And I think overall the Eagles front four.
Now, if you put Spagnola and what they're able to do
and all that, then again, that's what I'm saying.
Which is part of the coaching.
It's not just Andy Reid, Spags.
That's why I think coaching is favors them by far.
And secondary, I think both secondaries are really, really good.
You know, I had a hard time really separating.
I think both of them could also be exposed, so I had a little bit of a hard time.
I would probably say the Eagles.
Statistically has been better this year, but yeah, I mean, I think Eagles have a lot more
checks than the Chiefs, buddy, I mean, I think that's Eagles have a lot more checks than the Chiefs buddy. I mean,
all right, I'm gonna tell you who doesn't care about that.
I'm gonna read you some other fun stuff. So john Ewing, if you
guys don't follow john Ewing on Twitter, you should. covers a
lot of the betting stuff for bet MGM. One of the places that
I've been a part of for a while. A better at BetMGM has waged $125,000 on Chief's Eagles under $49.50.
A bet that I can't make because I hate rooting for unders.
That one caught my eye.
This one is, well coin toss, heads currently at BetMGM is being bet 53%.
We like that.
Majority of the bets are on the Eagles to win the Super Bowl
in all states except Kansas at this point.
So, and then one better at BetMGM, $1,500 on Dallas Goddard
to win Super Bowl MVP plus 10,000.
That 1,500 to win 150K.
And then lastly, one better at BetMGM put 10,000 that 1500 to win 150 K. And then lastly, one better at bet MGM put a 800,000 on the Eagles plus 110 to win. So a lot of the money going in on a lot of you know, I've
seen, I've seen a lot of unders under on both on both teams. I just don't have it in me
to bet the under. Yeah, you know know to I'm such a casual to root
Betting wise to root for no points, but I do have a few fun bets for you
You want to talk me off the ledge of any of these I'm happy for you to do that. Okay, hold on
Let me see well also Johnny 99% of money's on Saquon over receiving your his his receiving yards are over under 13 and a half
now he's only done it once in the last five games so that's a little shocking 13 but uh it's over
13 and a half i think i'm gonna take that i like always gotta feel like he's gonna catch a screen
they just don't throw the ball that much i like worthy to score a touchdown i feel like they're
gonna draw something up for him.
He's the home run hitter. His odds are pretty good. It's plus 155.
Obviously like Barclay, Kelsey, Hertz are the leaders, but now I have a couple of defensive ones. You ready for these? Yeah, I'm ready. Are you one of the defensive guys? You throw some
defensive bets in there? I like sacks. How do you feel about Carl Athis? My guy, I'm a big fan of Carl Ofthis. Two
sacks in the Super Bowl plus $5.89.
Well, he had three sacks what? A couple weeks ago.
Think about the Eagles do have a lead. They're gonna have to drop back. Obviously, they got
to be afraid of the rush. That's one. And then second one. This one is a long shot.
I would take under that by the way. Okay
Well, this is just you could bet him for one sack too. Oh trying to hit the number
Jalen Carter to have a sack in each half plus 850 first half second half. I
Wouldn't take that bet
Fortunately, my homes doesn't get sacked that much dude. Fortunately for me. I do what I want with these dumb bets.
That's my final take. I want to say your final take is
and we're gonna talk we'll talk about this on the red we'll talk about this at the
Fanatics party, but your final take is what?
You're putting money on the Eagles to win
or you're putting money on the Chiefs to win?
Just what is it?
I'm gonna bet the Chiefs to three, Pete.
Okay, there you go.
I don't think there's gonna be any calls that go,
oh, I don't think we're gonna have that,
I can't believe he got another call.
I don't think that's gonna happen,
unless it's blatant, similar to the Juju Smith penalty.
I am gonna bet a lot of props,
but for me the most,
the outcome I'm rooting hard for is
I want to see the Chiefs down,
three or six,
with a minute, minute 10 left,
and a timeout getting the ball.
And I just, if Mahomes does that, bow down.
If the Eagles stop him, bow down.
I want a definitive, you stop the terror or terror continues
and I can't wait for next year.
And then we'll ask Kelsey on the podium
if he's coming back for another year.
And if Mahomes does that the next day
on every talk show, sports talk,
it's gonna be, is Mahomes-
It's on Brady watch.
Is he the greatest of all time?
Has he surpassed Brady?
I know he doesn't have the number yet, but has he surpassed Brady as the greatest quarterback
to ever live?
That's going to be a good question.
It'll be a good one.
And then by the way, if he loses, he's still going to be in the, he's still going to be
then it'll be the opposite.
Like, yeah, Brady.
Who was your halftime show when you were at Super Bowl with the Cardinals?
Do you remember? That's a good question. Andrew, I need help with that. Well, because what
I was gonna ask is... I honestly, I thought about this. I'm like, who was our halftime? Because I
remember it's a long halftime. It's way different. Everything is way different. And which sucks,
because usually halftimes are, you're in like 15 and you're out. This was like 30. So you're in
there for an extra. You're just sitting around and you could hear it was a
Wasn't Bon Jovi gosh, who was it? It was a Bruce Springsteen in the East Street Ben Springsteen. There you go
That's a good one. I feel like with Kendrick though. This will be the first one where hey, where's that?
Where's that third string line back? Oh, he's he's in the tunnel. Listen watching
The kickers will be out there fucking does that happen?
Do you think that like is that that's happened before? Yeah, and is that considered big no-no or like?
You don't do that shit. You have people video for you
You have like, you know, some of the equipment guys or ball boys go out there and video but now you don't really think about that
Couple of fun facts my homes currently ranks ranks fifth all time in career passing yards
in Super Bowls.
He needs to throw for 85 more to become second all time.
He'll pass John Elway, Montana, and Kurt Warner's three, two,
and obviously only Brady.
So he's got 1,000, a little under 1,100 yards passing
in Super Bowls.
Brady's got over 3,000.
Yeah, I mean, that's a lot mean that's all. That's crazy.
That's crazy. Mahomes going for a three Pete, played in four Super Bowls is still going
to be. I was gonna say he's still gonna. He's gonna throw for, I mean, I think his number's
at 250 ish over and under like 252. I mean, did you need another six, seven Super Bowl
appearances just to. What would be more surprising?
Chiefs winning by two scores or Eagles winning by two scores?
Like couple of, just basically not a route, but they had control.
Chiefs winning by two scores, I think.
Because the offense doesn't really light it up.
The offense is good, don't get me wrong.
Look like they're going to blow out Buffalo at one point early in the game.
Yeah.
And again, I just think that the Eagles, if there's a year to beat the Chiefs and just kind of
Eliminate all the noise and the narratives the Eagles have the dominant offensive line a dominant running back a dominant run game a quarterback who can
Also take over in the run game and you can control a game like that. That's I mean this college
We talked about outside but in the pros you can control a game like that as well
And then on the defensive side
They have a dominant defense so that they have they have the pieces like they have they on paper like hey we match up
We're probably better than them in a lot of areas outside of the quarterback
Okay, last thing and then we're gonna take a quick break rap doesn't matter though
What what do you think needs to happen to cause my?
To cause me to have a Twitter meltdown during the game. Cause you know, you, you, you, you monitor my Twitter.
You call me salty.
Like what could happen in the game that would be like, Oh, Jerry's going to fight.
I can't, this guy's going to be unhinged.
Cause I know what it is.
I know what it is already.
It's going to be something with the tush push.
Yes.
Correct.
Do you know your partner or do you know your podcast partner?
When the Eagles are first and goal on the three yard line
and they run it four times in a row and they don't get in,
I think if they do get in, you're still gonna be like,
what are we fucking doing here?
I'm gonna be unhinged either way.
By the way, if they go for four times in a row,
which we've seen them do and they don't get in,
I'm gonna be unhinged too.
Going to be like, bro, you have to throw the fucking ball.
Or roll out, do something.
Yeah, I don't know.
All right, we're going to take a quick break.
Come back with Throwback 3.
OK, it's time for one of my favorite segments.
I think get a lot of tracks on social media again follow us at throwback show
Let us know your picks for this or comment on ours
And we will get back to you, but this week's throwback three in honor of Luca Don Donchich Donchich Donchich Donchich
Donchich dude don't don't the name don't I better get that right we're gonna do
Stunning trades across sports. Do you
want to take the Luca trade off the board? Yes. It still needs about five years to age.
I think it's, I think it's, I think now because we live in the moment, it's taken off the
most for sure. I do think it's the most, it's the craziest trade we've seen in recent sport
history for sure. Correct. But let's take it off to just for the sake of having a little
bit of fun about history of trades.
Cause I had a little bit of fun doing this.
There's a lot to pick from.
Do you want to lead off or do you want me to lead off?
You can lead off. You can lead off.
All right. I remember these are always like personal to us.
So you could disagree.
I remember being a kid and I remember when the great
in his prime,
Ken Griffey Jr.
got traded to the Reds.
That, at the time for me, was shocking.
I know when you stack it up against some of the other ones,
might not stay out there, but for me, that was shocking.
Did I tell you that I saw him at the World Series this year?
No.
I was on the field.
This is a total sidebar, but Griffey,
I think Griffey was everybody's favorite player
growing up, right?
Like everybody wanted to swing.
Griffey did it the right way.
He tortured the Yankees too with the Mariners.
Just like Ken Griffey Jr. baseball for video game.
Like he was everything.
I was chopping up with Ken Griffey Jr. on the field
before game five of the World Series.
Shout out to Sinclair. I was doing a couple of local hits
for some TV stuff and I was down there
and I went over to go see a couple of my guys
on the Dodgers and Griffey was there.
And I was like, I'll never forget my boy who I took
was like taking a video and he literally goes,
that was fucking cool.
And he's seen everybody.
I said, Mike, I gotta be honest with you,
that was really cool.
And I met Griffey before.
Anyway, I love it. Cause I think Griff I gotta be honest with you. That was really cool. And I met Griffey before. Anyway, I love it.
Cause I think Griffey was one of the best.
All right.
So real quick with Griffey,
I get to hang with him every now and then
at the Jeter event, right?
Yeah.
He's there.
Everyone always wants to play with Griffey.
He's a stick too, right?
He's a golf course.
His golf swing is gorgeous.
You know, we all take shuttle buses.
Did you just say Griffey's golf swing is gorgeous?
It is. It's gorgeous.
What's wrong with that?
So that word just come out here.
Beautiful, sweet. What other words do you want?
I would just say, I would say he could. Amazing. It's a, it's a gorgeous, so
technically it's a gorgeous swing. So everyone gives Andrew Jones a lot of heat
at that event. He makes a lot of birdies that some people are like, oh really? You, you
eagle that hole. So we all get on the bus bus Andrew Jones said something to Griffey about how he played and Griffey says to Andrew Jones man
Keep quiet. We still don't know how old you are like you still have a birth certificate
Since you're 18 years old in the World Series you lie about everything. So shoutouts Ken Griffey, Jr
The order was hard for me I again I when I do these do these things, sometimes it's like, oh, I remember that.
Then it's also fun looking up, right?
Because you go back and you get a little bit
of history lesson.
This was a little bit of a history lesson for me,
but it was because I became an all time hockey fan
growing up for the LA Kings.
And it was when Wayne Gretzky got traded to the LA Kings
from the Edmonton Oilers.
And he got traded, I think, 88, so I was five years old.
But I got into the Kings in 93, 94, it was 1011,
it was the year they went to the Stanley Cup,
they lost to the Montreal Canadiens,
McSorley had the curved stick, it was all these things.
Like I was a diehard Kings fan.
Kelly Rudy was like my favorite player, the goalie.
I had king shit everywhere.
So I was looking up, I'm like,
I kind of remember that as it became a thing.
He won a bunch of Stanley Cups for the Edmonton Oilers.
He's the great one, he was great then, all of these things.
They were, I think, talking about trading him prior.
I think it was another one of those things
where he didn't know, he found out a couple hours
after he won a Stanley Cup that he was going to the Kings, which
is crazy. But the big part about that was what it did for the sport, because I'm reading
up on this, basically it brought so much attention because hockey is a Canadian sport, really,
you know, a world sport, and it wasn't that big in the US.
Conspiracy, grow the game in America.
Well, there's a little conspiracy. It helped grow the game tremendously in America is what happened and basically put a lot of
eyeballs and, but I remember watching them as a kid for the Kings man.
So one of the biggest trades, I mean, the greatest hockey player to ever live, one of
the greatest athletes, top amount Rushmore athlete probably you could argue came to,
to my city.
Once again, we're always talking about the 30 for 30 on that? Which was the first 30, it's the first one.
Gretzky getting traded?
Pete Berg directed the first 30 for 30.
No, I'll have to see that.
Go watch the Gretzky trade 30 for 30.
It's incredible.
Yeah.
Cause it talks about, and then it gets into like,
he was dating, you know, Janet, who was from LA.
And she got a lot of heat cause they was like,
oh, he's going there for a girl.
It was, it was a wild story.
That's a good, that could easily. I used to run into Gretzky, when Gretzky was a part of heat because they was like oh, he's going there for a girl. It was it was a wild story That's a good that could easily I used to run into Greta
Greta when Gretzky was a part of the Phoenix Coyotes when I was in Arizona
So I went to a couple coyotes games and and I've crossed paths with him a couple times
He was so we got invited once me and
Dylan and Connelly and Doug Allen to play golf with Wayne Gretzky at Sherwood Country Club, right?
He wants to play golf with us.retzky at Sherwood Country Club, right? He wants to play golf with us.
So we're all shitting our pants because it's Wayne Gretzky and all that.
Connelly is like Connelly is the biggest hockey fan.
I learned her guy. That's his number one sport.
So we go up to Sherwood.
We it's me, Dylan Connelly and the great one who, by the way,
when you're hitting in front of him, you know, some might say the right thing
is like you stand far away from someone when they play,
when they hit, teeing off, you don't wanna be,
he stands right up in your eye line and just watches you.
It's the most nerve wracking.
He's right behind you or is he like to the side?
No, no, like, if you're on the tee box, he's parallel,
if you're lined up here, he's parallel to your line of sight.
You could see his feet.
It's terrifying, but the most shocking,
and by the way, he doesn't wait for you to hit.
He hits when he wants.
He drives away.
He does whatever he wants as he should.
So Connolly at this point, not a golfer, has not played maybe a handful of times in his
life.
Now he loves golf.
We're on some hole.
Connolly hits a good drive.
He has 99 yards to the stick.
Gretzky already hit his shot and walked up onto the green while we're still back
And I'm like fuck have you should call for like Gretzky's right there. He's about to hit
I'm like he's gonna skull one and kill Wayne Gretzky
Connelly hits a shot that floats on the green hops twice and goes in the hole and Gretzky puts his arms up
Runs over and gives him a hug Gretzky puts his arms up and runs over and gives him a hug. Gretzky pulls the
ball so he hold out from 99 yards and Gretzky saw the ball and said 99 from 99. And just
one of the craziest golf stories I've ever been.
I got goosebumps. That's fucking sick.
Sorry for that, Dietri, but I thought it was worth it. All right.
Oh yeah. See, this is the best part about this. Stories always come from, they come
from everything.
I'm going to, I'm going to give my number two. Um, and I the best part about this. Stories always come from, they come from everything. I'm gonna, I'm gonna give my number two.
Um, and I don't know if it steps on one of yours.
We did not talk before this, so I'm sorry if it does.
And I have an honorable mention.
Shaq to the Heat.
Yeah.
Is that yours?
Yeah.
I was gonna put a three.
No, go for it.
We can have it in number two.
Well, it was so shocking about it was the fact that they just won three rings like we talked about
earlier like it ended the era and when you really think about what it was about was the
most shocking and equally was shocking when Shaq went to the Lakers you know he was just
in the finals with the magic so.
I think he was like four years in from Orlando right it was like barely.
And yeah they went to the finals and then Jordan the next year annihilated them
and he got out of Orlando.
I remember there's,
cause in that era I was still a big Laker fan
but that was like my peak Laker fandom.
Like I was 18, 19, 20, I was at USC
but I just love the Lakers.
I remember in high school
when Shaq got signed by the Lakers. I think it was high school. I remember that was school when Shaq got signed
by the Lakers, I think it was in high school.
I remember that was back in the day
when I would have cereal in the morning.
I'd read the sports paper every morning.
Like we read the newspaper and I'll never forget.
I have like a vivid memory of like seeing Shaq
to the Lakers, whatever the headline was.
It was awesome time to be a Laker fan.
And then I have another, I have a vivid memory of Shaq leaving the Lakers in that year too. It was like, no. And I remember
who did we get for him? And we got Karam, but it was Odum and we got Odum, Brian Grant,
Brian Grant and, and, uh, Karam Butler, Lamar Odum and Brian Grant. So we got good hall.
I mean, we got a good hall for Shaq. Wouldn't became a real piece for what was to come.
Then I'm winning. Were you bummed when Shaq won the title with the heat?
Not bummed, but like I was not bummed. I was like you. I was the reason why I was.
I was so much I was so bummed on why it happened.
It was just a bunch of BS and like two massive egos
just couldn't they couldn't play together when they did it.
Like we just talked about the duo was a great maybe the greatest duo of all time and what could have been there would have been two or three more championships
easily both were in their pri- easily with Phil easily and
It just their egos got in the way and it was just a bummer of how the fallout and then yeah Shaq got his I remember
I think the next time they played was maybe a Christmas day game. I think it was Heat Lakers. It was the next year. And I just remember
They didn't say what's up to each other.
I think they might have said what they gave a little fist pump a little hug, but Shaq
was pissed and like all that. So that was my number two though too. I was just, it was
so I almost put that number one because
Question before, before I give my number one, is your number one involving basketball?
Can I ask you that?
Yes or no?
No.
Okay, good.
Cause I want to do a quick honorable mention.
My number one is a straight history lesson.
Okay.
You probably know where I'm going to go.
I had no idea.
I'm going to give a quick honorable mention
before my number one,
because we've talked a lot of Lakers today
and everyone's complaining that the Lakers get stuff.
Oh my gosh, you're going to talk to Knicks.
No, no, this is Celtics
Yeah, I felt it fans. I don't want to hear from you because notice who is the Kevin Garnett trade?
Yeah, listen to the hall by the way
Famously Kevin McHale was responsible for this trade
Celtics traded Al Jefferson Ryan Gomes Gerald Green Theo Ratliff
Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, Sebastian Telfair, and two firsts, which I'm not quite sure who they became, but one of them I think was used in a trade
for Ricky Davis or something. So I don't want to hear it from you Celtic fans. You guys
got Kevin Garnett. For me, my number one is yours baseball or football? Yours is football.
Oh, that's not your number one? No, that's my honorable mention. Quick thing, quick thing
on the KG, you remember this,
he wanted to go to the Lakers.
To the Lakers, Kobe was trying to get him.
No, but he was calling Kobe, and Kobe never returned his calls.
When it all came down to the wire, I was just read the quote.
I was trying to get a hold of Kobe.
I couldn't get a hold of him.
And then he went to the Celtics.
I interviewed Kevin Garnett when I was with Ben MGM doing a show.
And he told that story.
And what hearing him say it is goosebumps.
Because he's like, man, I was calling Kobe.
He was he wanted to get back.
Could you imagine if you would have been a Laker?
Crazy.
Crazy. My number one's in baseball.
It's a little selfish because it involves the Yankees.
But the fun history part of it, too, is the A-Rod trade.
What makes the A-Rod trade wild is because he was going to the Red Sox.
It was done. So every Yankee fan was like, oh shit, now we got to deal with this guy for years to come.
And then all the stuff that happened, which has been documented.
But for me, that's my number one. Sorry, I couldn't do Babe Ruth. Wasn't around. Couldn't do Babe Ruth trade.
How that, that one reminded me of there's trades are always what if, or what if Kevin
Garneau went to the Lakers? What if A-Rod ended up going to the Red Sox? Another one
is the Chris Paul to the Lakers. Remember that when Stern just came in and said, nope,
I was so pissed. I was like, we're going to get, we're going to get
Still don't really know why that was a nope.
I think that was before the whole super team. Right. But the Kevin Garnett thing is a yes.
But the Chris Ball one was a nope. I think that was Kobe. Yeah. I don't know.
All right. So the Red Sox selling Babe Ruth.
Did you, did you, did you see this one? Yeah. Did you see this? That's your number one.
Yeah, did you see this?
Let's hear it.
Look it up trades?
No, you didn't see the history behind this?
I haven't heard this in a while.
No, give me the history.
I'm gonna read this.
This is fantastic and I hope I'm not wrong.
So the Red Sox sell the babe, okay?
Looking for cash to finance the musical,
No No Nanette Nanette.
Red Sox owner Harry Fisbee sold baseball's greatest player
to the yankees for a hundred thousand dollars plus a three hundred thousand dollar loan
in 1920 so that's how he became alone that's crazy alone heard of the curse of the bambino
okay babe ruth hit 665 of his 714 career homers for the yankees including 54 in the first
season in the bronx he led the yankees, including 54 in the first season in the Bronx.
He led the Yankees to seven World Series appearances
and four titles.
The greatest dynasty in the history
of professional sports was born.
The Red Sox, who had won their fifth World Series
behind Ruth in 1918,
this article is a little bit old, obviously,
they won again, but basically,
the play ended up being a hit, but they sold it.
They sold Babe Ruth to finance a play and the loan part musical.
So like it's money they had to pay back.
It wasn't even money.
They just gave Ruth was sold to the Yankees for a hundred K and a loan and
300 grand in 1920 and that is the greatest baseball player to ever live.
But could you imagine, put yourself back in the day
for a second, pitch, like, let's say Matt Leiner,
I forget the year, what, 1940 something?
I don't know if it says it in your research there
that this trade went down.
So you- 1920.
1920, all right, you're gonna hop a trolley
or take a horse to your fucking job, whatever it is. And you get office who knows what you do and you get the newspaper and it's like what?
What?
The yeah, the Red Sox certainly think about how long it took for that deal and that story to come out to people
I know
In that crate, I just I literally was reading that like what do you do?
You like we got to go to the bar and talk about this
Let's hope people are at the bar because we have to talk it like I just think I was if I could go back in time
We can do the historical time machine. That's a sneaky one
Go back in time to went to New York or to Boston when that trade happened put yourself there with a newspaper and just like
You know, I was reading up on this is crazy. This is absolutely crazy.
No one knew that.
Well, give us your throwback three.
Comment on ours.
Elway to the Broncos was a big one.
There's a lot of good ones.
Yeah.
And I don't know if I can get into the Luca one.
Very well might be the one that knocks all these
off the pedestal.
Kobe Bryant trade on draft.
So there's some draft day trades.
But that's different though, because that wasn't shocking.
That was just the Lakers and Jerry West
being really good at their job.
They, you know, some might say they took the risk.
So it wasn't shocking.
A good throwbacks in the future could be
the biggest what ifs, right?
What if Sam Bowie, what if Jordan went to,
where did Sam Bowie go?
Portland.
Portland, number one.
Which is ironic because that's the Nike headquarters.
Yeah.
What if Portland drafted Michael Jordan?
Yeah, what if Sam Bowie, yeah, there's a,
I got a million of those.
So I'm gonna be one of them.
There's a million of those.
Yeah.
Well, we got flights to catch, Matt.
Dude, let's do it, buddy.
Don't forget.
I'll see you in New Orleans.
Throwbacks on the, on the Fanatics red carpet Saturday. Follow along, subscribe so you can see the live
feeds. You've got to catch a plane to New Orleans. Let's go.
