Starting point is 00:00:00 The greatest moment in our two-year history of throwbacks is when we got Justin Thomas on throwbacks. My God, dude, watching you the lead up to that episode and the day of that episode, I think you even called him by his wrong name. I've never seen a grown man who's had, you know, who's met everybody and anybody in the world. So nervous to talk to somebody. Welcome in, everybody. Another best of throwbacks episode for you as we wind down here. start gearing up for our season three, which basically starts when football season kicks off. I'm giving you another best of. So before we do that, don't forget, shoot over to all the socials at Throwback Show and definitely give us a subscribe on YouTube. But Matt, this is a good one
Starting point is 00:00:59 because this was a personal thing for me. I wanted to make sure we all talked a lot about golf. I love golf. I'm a huge golfer. My goal has been to get you into it. We've talked a lot of golf on this show. You're going to see stuff with Justin Thomas. You're going to see, I mean, Matt, you went to Scotland over the last two years. Mark Wahlberg, we talked golf. I mean, pretty much every person, every person we've had on this pod, somehow, some way golf is woven into the conversation. Yes. And somehow we always end with like me and you, we need to go play golf with these people. And yet you and I have, we've not played around together yet, you and I. Well, that's not my fault. But I do want to say this, the greatest moment in our two-year history of throwbacks.
Starting point is 00:01:44 And again, excited for season three is when we got Justin Thomas on throwbacks. And I and my God, dude, watching you the lead up to that episode and the day of that episode. I think you even called him by his wrong name. Would you call him Jason? First of all, I didn't sleep the night before. I've never seen a grown man who's had, you know, who's met everybody and anybody in the world. so nervous to talk to somebody on the pod. Because that's like my guy too.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Outside, like Tiger would obviously make me very nervous to talk to. But Justin Thomas is one of my friends. And I did call him by the wrong name. I don't know if they ever cut it out. Because right before he came on, we were talking about Jordan Speath and he did the full swing documentary. And they're such good friends. So literally I welcome him.
Starting point is 00:02:30 I'm like, Jordan. Oh, I called Justin Thomas Jordan. And by the way, we had him the week of the Masters, which is the week before the Masters, is freaking rad. So shout out to JT. But yeah. So many great things have happened. I want to ask you as we kind of get into, you know, the end of summer here, we get ready for season three, what are your, you've talked a lot about your golf back home and your negotiations and this and you had a third
Starting point is 00:02:54 baby this year. What are your golf goals for the rest of the year before we jump into this episode? I want to, I just want to play more because the, you know, agreement Bree and I made about having a third baby and me getting the golf as much as me. Let's just say if I could sue her for breach of contract, I would. I mean, I could have told you that when you were telling me. I just didn't say it. But a realistic goal, look, for me as a 12 handicap who occasionally flirts with like 80, 70. I want to like put up a round or two, like 79. I would love to just hang those. 79. You know, I had a major goal achieved last year at the Jeter. I won the closest to the pin contest.
Starting point is 00:03:36 We talked about that too. I'm sure that'll make its way. That. And my second mat is play around with my brother, Maddie Linerd. That's my second goal. You've played in Scotland. You played in a good, good class. You're like four.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Since I've met you. I've played you. I played. Since I've, since I, since you and I've done this and you've been getting me to get into golf, I played in a good, good tournament. And I hit a person on the first hole on the golf channel. Live on YouTube. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:05 I played in the Tahoe. whole practice rounds with our guy, Austin Reeves, and a crew with Travis Matthew. I went to Scotland and played the old course with a bunch of guys and had a blast. I played Aronamink this year right after a PGA championship
Starting point is 00:04:20 and got lessons from my guy down the street who's awesome. It has been pretty incredible. Those are your four rounds of golf in like a year and a half. Those are, well, if you know, you got to include the nine hole
Starting point is 00:04:34 down the street. But yeah, those are practice. So my goal is just to double or triple that. And then whether even if it's charity events and tournaments and stuff like that, I just, I got to get out there more. And it's hard to do during the fall of the football season.
Starting point is 00:04:47 But, I mean, I just got asked to play in this boys trip with Wisconsin, apparently great golf in Wisconsin through my marketing team. Yeah, that's just probably like Aaron Hills or whistling streets or something. Yeah. I'm like, dude,
Starting point is 00:05:01 I can't. But anyway, yeah. Well, also, I hope they play. I hope they put a little bit of Austin Reeves in this episode because my favorite part is when we got Austin Reeves to join the show,
Starting point is 00:05:11 he did his interview from a room at his country club. And he just, once I finish my round of golf, I'll do the interview. So shoutouts to Austin Reeves. I believe he'll probably pop up in this episode. And here we go. Best of throwbacks. Everything involving golf. I got a little round in after practice today.
Starting point is 00:05:31 So life can't be any better. I'm going to ask a pretty random question off the gate because I'm a pretty big golf fan myself, right? Do you get in season to play on the road? And if you do, how you transport in the sticks, does that fall into the equipment manager's purview? Like, where are your clubs? Because the clubs are like the, that's the most important thing while traveling. Yeah, for sure. I just take them to the plane.
Starting point is 00:05:57 They put them under the plane. And they take them to, so when we get to the hotel, they give us like a, ballroom for LaFood and sleep and stuff. They just take them in there. And if I want to go, I go get them and put them back and they'll put them back under the plane. So they're there are equipment. People make it very, very easy for me to play a little bit.
Starting point is 00:06:17 You're the only one? I was going to say, who do you golf with on the road on the team? Well, JJ's a big. He's a stick. Yeah. He's not the bug right now. But before DeLo got traded, he was the one I played with most. we played
Starting point is 00:06:32 probably over 100 rounds together in the last year or so L.A.'s got some amazing golf when I was I wasn't doing like tons of research because I know a lot about your career but when I was like looking you up and stuff like I'm like Newark for a minute there I'm like wait a man he's from Jersey
Starting point is 00:06:48 I'm like oh no that's Newark Arkansas so you know you go from there to L.A I'm sure the golf course has probably helped transition you as golf everywhere but what is that like going from where you grew up and then next thing you know you're playing for your favorite team in L.A. That just must have been surreal. Yeah, it was crazy. The night of the draft when we got the call and they were like, we'll take you on a two-way. You know, it was almost a no-brainer for me,
Starting point is 00:07:16 you know, because you said I was a huge Kobe fan, so therefore I was a Laker fan. And, you know, just having the opportunity to, you know, play for the team I grew up blocks in the most, you know, was special. And like you said, obviously, The golf year-round definitely help the transition. There's a lot of things I love about L.A. There's a couple things I don't. One being traffic, traffic is horrible. But like I said, when I'm able to go off year-round, you can't beat that.
Starting point is 00:07:48 But my transition's been very easy. I don't do much. I play a lot of golf, play video games, and I don't really go out much. So there isn't much difference. made about three places, my house, the gym, or golf portion, that's it. You're saying go play golf. We got the masters coming up now. We're still team Wyndham Clark, right?
Starting point is 00:08:10 Is Wyndham still a municipal guy? Absolutely. Windham is a municipal guy. We got Kirk Kiddiama is playing fantastic. Patrick Rogers is really starting to get some momentum. So, you know, we got a great team. But, yeah, I think. When is my pick?
Starting point is 00:08:24 He's my pick for the, I got him. He's my pick, and I was going to pitch to you. if he does get that green jacket, we need some kind of municipal collab with the, maybe not a green jacket, but something to commemorate because I think he's got a real shot this weekend. Listen, I wouldn't kind of mount, you know,
Starting point is 00:08:42 U.S. Open winner. But, yeah, we'll do more than that for sure. I know, obviously you've probably played, have you played Augusta? Yeah. Played Augusta, yeah. Outside of Augusta, is there like your top three golf courses
Starting point is 00:08:58 that you've ever played? or want to play. Oh, my God. There's so many. You know, you've got outside the U.S., I mean, you've got a Dare Manor. You've got, you know, the Green Monkey in Barbados, which I go on holiday and play there.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Pine Valley, Cyprus, Pebble. I mean, there's so many. So many. I mean, you go, you know, but you go to a place like Boston Golf from, remember, when you go play that course, it's a Walker only. That'll give you all the biggest challenge
Starting point is 00:09:28 you've ever had. in your golf career for sure. I did something for the program, for the show. I think I did a good thing. So, you know, Jeter tournament, turn two foundation. They do wonderful things for a lot of kids coming into their 30th year doing it. Whole setup. And again, if you love baseball, and there's a lot of other athletes there and entertainers,
Starting point is 00:09:50 but if you love baseball, especially 90s baseball, forget it. It's Ken Griffey Jr., Geter, Cliff Floyd, Andrew Jones. It's awesome. Everyone, you ever want to meet in baseball, specifically from the 90s. So after you play your first charity round, a scramble, they do something called the celebrity shootout, right? They gather all the celebrities, which are just Hall of Fame baseball players and a few, you know, actors.
Starting point is 00:10:16 And everyone from the tournament, like 200 people, gather around this par three. And they hit a shot. And it's closest to the pin, right? Like J.R. Smith won it last year. And I've been daydreaming for years. Like imagine getting a hole in one and turning around, you're staring at Derek Cheater. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:34 It'd be awesome. But also, you get roasted the entire time by Anthony Anderson and Chris Tucker. They are on the mic, making fun of you before you hit your shot. So I'm not excited to hit this shot. I hide in the back. You know how short I am.
Starting point is 00:10:50 I can't see over anyone. I was standing on C.C. Sabathia. Can't. So now before me, Anthony Mackey gets up. Captain America, bro, gets up to the team. And please follow along. We'll post this on throwbacks. You know, Anthony's in good shape.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Jack, dude, a lot of swing speed. He hits a shank so bad. And there's camera shots where it doesn't just like whizze people. It crosses in front of someone's eyes. It was like a warning headshot. And if it would have hit this person, that would have been a really, really bad day. So they're all going to move. move everyone to the left or back.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I know you've hit someone, right? Oh, yeah. On live TV. Fine, though. But mine was like 1.30 out. I overshot the green. I just hit a kid right in the thigh. It's like a bouncer, right?
Starting point is 00:11:39 No, I had it right in the thigh. Was the bullet or was it like? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Okay. Not the, not off the tea, thank God. And then, okay, so I watched that and then that's implanted in my brain. And now I'm really getting nervous. And I'm out my crossroad.
Starting point is 00:11:53 And then a few people go and then Jarr Rule gets up. Jarl rule gets up. Jarl is the musical performance for the show. show later on. I think Jodd just started playing golf. And this one's all this one. I want to talk about the word viral. This one is everywhere. You've probably seen it if you're listening or watching. If not
Starting point is 00:12:09 look it up. He hits a shank that thankfully was not going as fast as Anthony Macky's and it hit him backwards almost. It was like completely vertical. It was completely vertical. For camera dude who probably thought no one's going to hit
Starting point is 00:12:25 me here gets drilled right in the arm. Fortunately, he's okay. and Jah was a good sport about it and all that. So now I'm just like, I gotta get, let's just get this thing over with. And they call my name. Where's Jerry and Anthony Anderson starts making fun of me right away? Nick Swisher's yelling at me that I like work out with my wife making front of me.
Starting point is 00:12:44 All these guys are like, all right, 145 yards, little downwind. Your boy's got a nine iron. And I think I'd have to back off twice because Chris Tucker was just clowning me. But then I just got up there. I essentially closed my eyes, swung, and I hit it to about 11 feet, right? Everyone goes nuts.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Yeah, that's a good shot. But then I got to sweat out. Next on the T. Michelle Wee. What? All right. The dream's over. I had to sweat through Michelle Wee,
Starting point is 00:13:14 Tino Martinez, Nick Swisher, C.C. Sabathia. And then I think it's fine. Connolly gets it. Connolly hit right after John Rule. Finally gets like, I think it's done. And then Chris Young,
Starting point is 00:13:26 last player to him. Chris is a stick, bro. I'm like, oh, he hits it to like 12 and a half feet. And your boy is the new. Yeah, Doug. Derek Jeter, invitational champ. It's all worth it. It's all worth it. This is one of the greatest things I've ever accomplished in my life. I know. Bro, I know. Trust me. It's standing, standing in front of all of those Hall of Famers, Derek Jeter, the captain, famous actors, comedians, and just to stripe one 10 feet. to the pin, bro, it's got to be the great outside, outside of a hole in one, it's got to be one of the greatest feelings Jerry Farrar's ever, ever felt in his entire life.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Well, I'm proud of you, buddy. I'm proud of you. I got the classic Jeter, like the, you know, when he used to make like a big play or something. I got the classic Jeter thing now. Everyone starts calling me champ. Everywhere I'm going. Charles Oakley, what's up, champ? You walked into dinner, you walked into dinner that night with your head, with your hell.
Starting point is 00:14:26 They made me bring the belt to the job. rule before. Yeah. So now I'm going full heel. Next year, I'm going to fly back with his belt. And I'm going to walk in. You're defending chat, bro. I'm going to walk in like Rick Flair, bro.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Sunglasses. I might even take my shirt off. So that was my crossroad. It's one of the greatest things that ever happened to me. Thank you for telling, for letting me tell that story through this segment. There's nothing better than sticking a great golf shot.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Even if you're just playing with your boys. But when you're doing it in front of an audience especially like that against you know players you watch growing up yankees like like and to not shit dude i'm telling you i get goosebumps i i've been in that situation i i can i can i've been in that situation not i didn't i didn't hit a ball nearly as good as you but i've been in that situation the feeling of everybody watching you and just like don't mess this up don't mess us up but then to just nut it right there dude proud the only other thing that could have made this horribly wrong was once it was like oh and i won you beat out michel wee
Starting point is 00:15:27 Yeah, but she's awesome. Once it was like, okay, I won it. I'm starting to walk out to get the belt. And Connolly, who was more jacked up than me, bro, he takes a running star and pushes me from behind to get out there. And I almost face planted. Like, I had to catch my balance. He pushed me so, it's on video. He pushed me so hard.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Man, the jaw rule thing, you've got to wonder, you probably got to think 50 cents going to want to weigh in. that shot, right? That's going to be at some point. I just think next year, or Jeter's just going to happen. You got to, you got to, like, you could literally kill somebody doing that, dude. Like, you could literally kill them. So you got to, you got to eliminate the, the, the people on the side, put everyone in the back. Or wear some type of fucking helmet.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Most nerve-wracking for sure. You golf with these guys, or you're not a golfer? No, I'll golf. I'll tell you what. I got a good-in-ro story. Bruce is like a college golfer. We, the, we're in, Jerry, so we're doing a, we're doing a, Colorado game.
Starting point is 00:16:28 And so it's me, Mark's dad who played for the Giants. Sure. Yeah. I remember him well. So it's me and Mark's dad. And in the, no,
Starting point is 00:16:40 it's me and Mark against Urban and Mark's dad. And Urban plays a ton of golf. So I've heard. I'm yet to play with him. A ton of golf. You know, he does the belly putter thing. All the old man.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Oh, is that Urban's a belly putter guy? Oh, he has. It's so old school. Yeah. You did break something on the show. Thank you, Bruce. So, yeah. So, but I'm going to break this.
Starting point is 00:17:00 So we're playing at this sanctuary, this really, really nice golf course. It's obviously altitude. And the first hole, the first T, Mark gets up there, no lie, because we have, you know, all the GPS tracking in the golf cart. His drive goes 406 yards. I believe it. In Colorado, I believe it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:18 And Mark, like, I don't know if it's ever come up with you guys, but, like, Mark was a really good junior golfer. Like, so it's not like he's like this guy who was like, you know, know, like all the quarterbacks, you know, are always good golfers. And relieve pitchers, yes. And hockey players. Yeah. They're all good, right?
Starting point is 00:17:36 So, but Mark played a ton of golf. Now, Mark was like starting to spray the ball around. But the 4006-yard drive, that was a real thing. We lost a bunch of money to those guys, too, that day. So it was a shame. I can't believe, coach. By the way, Bruce has got the fastest back swing. Oh, I will take a big hard cut at it.
Starting point is 00:17:56 I had some big duck hook thing. This thing is just Eddie Hooks. Yeah, Bruce, Bruce, you played in college. Bruce was a great golfer. I did. I played one year in college. We had a funny moment. We were somewhere in Arizona. Do you remember this?
Starting point is 00:18:08 We're not playing. And we have a guy who is a producer on the, you know, he's like Arod's right hand guy, Bardia. Shout out to Bardia. And they were behind. And I remember I hit like a one iron or a two iron. And I'm like, I don't know. I was like 150 yards behind them.
Starting point is 00:18:26 And they didn't get the card out of the way. So it's like a line drive coming right at them. I mean, who fucking hits what irons? I didn't even know those clubs existed. Yeah. So anyway, I thought it was like they intentionally tried to limit the distance on my ball on the way in there. I'm going to be texting coach right as we hang up this meeting. And the belly putter thing is my, I just never would.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Text them about Mark off the tea in Colorado. It was not a fluky thing. Like, he gets some calves into it. Nothing just. Mark can crush it. We were at Illinois a couple weeks ago and we were golfing with the coach and he was, I think he drove out,
Starting point is 00:19:01 he had a 320 or 300 out there just off the only bad golf for our group was actually Rob. Like Rob was, Rob was frustrating. Rob's the worst. I'm the second, I'm the second worst by far.
Starting point is 00:19:14 I wouldn't say by far. You play three times a year. No, but I think, but there's a massive gap between me and Rob. So like, there's like, coach is the best. Brady's pretty good. Mark's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:19:25 But they all like sprayed around. Coach is the, our Joel class. Urban doesn't spray it around. Urban, he's the best by far. Those two Mark and Brady will. Well, no, Joel's better than Urban. But Joel and Urban are the class. Yeah, those guys are great.
Starting point is 00:19:38 How's the golf game? Feeling good? I mean, you got the good weather, so you can play all year. I haven't been playing much at all since this college football season. Yep. But now you got time. I'm about to pick my sticks up and get going. I'm about to knock the rust off.
Starting point is 00:19:52 I'm about to pick my sticks up. That game's going to be right by March. And true or false, Coach Urban Meyer is a belly putter? Is that real? Is that for real? Does he use a belly putter? He's not a belly putter, but he like,
Starting point is 00:20:04 he gets like, he gets like real low light. Oh, okay. I thought someone said he uses a belly putter. He don't have the sweeper. Okay. No, no, no, no. I thought it. Bruce Feldman said it.
Starting point is 00:20:14 No, no, he just, he bent, he bends down like real low, like. Yeah. Coach is a stick, though. Well, I got to get out here with you. Coach is a sandbagger, bro. Yeah. Coach is a sandbagger.
Starting point is 00:20:25 He wants to say he's a dumb guy. No, digit handicap, you're a lie. I'm playing 100 rounds this year. He's getting any competitive advantage possible to it. He's got, no, I wouldn't even say it. He's got the greatest week coming up in golf. I won't even say it. Oh, me?
Starting point is 00:20:39 No. Well, I mean, he's had like three greatest weeks in golf this whole season. He played the links in Ireland. He's golfing with the most powerful man in our country. Okay. And after that, he's flying over to Augusta to fly Augusta. I want to ask this question to you. Put you both on the spot since we all love golf here.
Starting point is 00:21:04 And you two, especially. Entourage cast, office cast. I don't know if any of your office guys play golf, but... Like a 3V3 we talk in or a 2V2? 3. Jerry, you get two of your guys versus Brian. You get two of your guys from the office. I know who I'm picking.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Who are you picking? 3V3, we lose. We lose. because I just, you know, I don't. Who's an athlete on that? I don't mean to profile, but I just, I look at the people who are on your show and I have a strong feeling that there's a few that golf at least. There was a lot of golf on our actual show. We had a golf simulator.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Our in between takes, we were like hitting on a golf simulator. Yeah. So looking at your show, regardless. I will tell you this. If it was 2V2, we have a chance. the only other person that record well Correll and I played a couple of times in Los Angeles
Starting point is 00:22:04 I'm gonna stop there I don't want to say anything that he doesn't want me to say but I think the only time he ever played was with me and he's an athlete man like he was an old hockey player yeah and this is now the second time I've told this fairly recently and I don't know if he would be mad but he was during the office he was playing in a hockey rec league in L.A.
Starting point is 00:22:27 And I don't, he didn't really talk about it publicly. So I don't know. I must say he doesn't do it anymore. But, um, so he has a swing. Hockey players always have a golf swing. Always have a swing. But he, he, he doesn't really play. The only person that played who is, doesn't play a lot anymore and is, you know, I
Starting point is 00:22:46 think his handicap is bullshit. But Andy Buckley, who played David Wallace, the, the CEO, he played at Stanford in college. He claims it was the, it was the, the like he was the 13th player but i'm like dude if you played at the same school that tiger woods and michelie like the two most iconic players ever men's and women's you probably were pretty damn good and he's he's good so yeah we'd have a chance to be to any more than that we're done let let me ask you a question because i saw i don't think i i'm not sure i saw you in tahoe but i was there and i know you played. I played the practice round.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Okay. And I remember I was playing with I actually playing with Chad Mom and Wells and Austin. That's a podcast we don't want a challenge to a golf man. No, exactly. And anyway, I think it's 17. A 17th one, the par three on the water right there, right?
Starting point is 00:23:42 And that was our first show. That was our first whole we played the practice round. You play that tournament and it's so fun. I was there, I think, on Friday. How nervous are you just the first shot of the day. Because I'm always like golf with a gallery and all of that is just a different experience. Yeah. I mean, here's the good news. The good news is and because, you know,
Starting point is 00:24:05 I've been fortunate enough to play with a bunch of golfers also you're talking about on the podcast. It seems like even for professionals, they feel it on their first tee shot of any tournament. And they're very clear when they're teeing it up at Augusta or the U.S. O. O. Like that first T shot is nerve-wracking. And I would say the same is true for me. I mean, I've been lucky enough. It is, it means so much to me, the American Century Championship there in Lake Tahoe. This will be my 19th year.
Starting point is 00:24:43 That's amazing. Good for you, man. 19th year. And there, I don't know about it anymore, but there were years on the first T that I I was concerned about getting the ball on the tea to stay there because just the hands. I feel you. Just a little. And just like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:06 And there's a lot of people around. And here's the thing. To anyone who wants to venture out to Lake Tahoe and take it in. One, I encourage you to do it. They get more fan, literally more fans every single year than the year before. I encourage you to come out. You need to remember these are. not professional golfers.
Starting point is 00:25:26 And they line up on the fairway as though we are. Like, as though there's no chance for them to get hit. And I'm just like on that first tee shot. Now 17. 17's a lot of pressure, man. 17. I love, like when I'm walking and there are so many people, you can't even like, I mean, at the T-box, you know,
Starting point is 00:25:53 there's the there's a stands behind but even on the sides there well you've got the beach the beach is totally full and on the other side now it's like 15 or 20 deep going back that I love my problem my problem is I find a way to get up for those holes but then when I'm playing like hole four in the very back of the golf and no one's really there yeah I'm like who We got through that. Double bogey. Double bogey. It is a, it is.
Starting point is 00:26:29 You're a pressure guy, Brian. You're a pressure guy. It's a really special weekend. I love it. I love it. It's a cool weekend. I have a little fun golf adventure for you, right? I take you back,
Starting point is 00:26:39 maybe like 15 years or so. I'm pretty new to golf. Me and Kevin Dillon ventured down the San Diego to meet Scotty Cameron. The Scotty Cameron. He fit us for some putters. And then we went out to play some golf. and it was unbelievable. But the whole time Dylan and I know,
Starting point is 00:26:56 like, oh, we're going to be driving back from San Diego at like 5 o'clock. We're dead. It's going to be so much traffic. All good. As we're leaving, we finished around, we're leaving in walks into the clubhouse, Phil Mickelson.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Now, the room stops. Me and Dylan, like, oh, wow, it's Phil Mickelson, crazy. And what does Kevin Dylan do? He's like, I got to go talk to him, bro. Of course he does. He just heads off, and it hits me out of nowhere. the very previous episode of Entourage, we take a shot at Phil Mickelson.
Starting point is 00:27:28 The actual line in the episode is, the Ari character says something like, Honey, I got to go. Nikki's melting down worse than Phil Mickelson at Winged Foot, right? Dylan's walking over there. It's like slow motion. I'm like, no, I try to stop.
Starting point is 00:27:42 And then, you know, I'm 20 feet away. They're up there talking. It looks friendly. I finally come in there and like shake, shake his hand. And then Phil walks away. And I asked, I'm like, what did he say? He's like, oh, he's the nicest guy. I told him he's got to be on the show.
Starting point is 00:27:58 And he said, you know, I would love to. It's my favorite show, although I'm not caught up yet on this season. So he has not yet seen the actual thing. So the whole drive back. Obviously, we called Doug Allen. We're like, Doug, Phil Mickelson wants to do the show. I'm like, can we figure out a way to shoot with Phil Mickelson before he hears this joke? And end result was.
Starting point is 00:28:20 end result was he did hear the joke. He still did the show. And we did ask him when he was on set. And like, you know, did you hate that? He's like, well, you know, it wasn't great like sitting in bed with my wife watching my favorite show and you guys just take a shot at me. That wasn't awesome. But, you know, it was funny. And, uh, yeah, he didn't really care.
Starting point is 00:28:38 He ends up doing the show. But that whole drive back from San Diego to L.A., me and Dylan were like, can we make this happen before he hates us? And here's this joke. So that was a fun little adventure that involved a little bit of golf. for you. The cool thing. We talk a lot about this with Justin Timberlitt, Justin Timberlake, Justin Thomas. Jesus, I'm a mess. I was going to ask you, who's the best? Because you always see like the, you know, like the, like the Tahoe tournament, right, where all the athletes play. And I think John Smoltz is kind of one of the guys in Tony Romo. Those guys are really good,
Starting point is 00:29:09 non-professional golfers. Who's, is there someone like that you've played with that you're like, holy shit, like this dude is really good? Or maybe they've beaten you or like, who's the best non-proper. A lot of strokes. JT's given a lot of strokes. to these dudes if he's losing. Some of these guys are good, man. I mean, I've played with Romo a good bit. Romo is really good. I would say just over, you know, if you put all those guys in 10 rounds,
Starting point is 00:29:33 he's going to have great chance. I mean, Marty Fish is really good. Yeah. But, man, I still think if when Steph is done playing and he can play more golf, like he just, I played with him a couple times, and he just did things and, like, hit those shots. where you're like you know you know you know you got freak talent like it just it just crazy good hands around the greens and like just the the little subtle adjustments and and man uh i think yeah
Starting point is 00:30:04 if he if he was able to put more time into it i think he'd be probably the best consistent aminer at least athlete wise but there's there's definitely some good ones so that's the other thing that's always fascinated me when i started playing too you mentioned like the pro-ans I've been fortunate enough to play in a few proams, but I'm never going. That's how the whole conversation started when you jumped in about me taking a snap. You know, I could play a proam with you theoretically,
Starting point is 00:30:33 but I'm not going to take snaps with Matt at US. There's no other sport in the world where I would get the chance to play for four hours with you and talk. And what I realized too is, and I've had two interesting experiences with proams, but I was on a golf trip down in Florida this past weekend, one of the guys played in the pro-in with you last year and was like,
Starting point is 00:30:53 oh, you're going to love talking to Justin Thomas. He's the best, great guy. And then you realize, like, oh, we all talk after we play with you guys. We go back to our boys and we're like, this guy is unbelievable. He's awesome. We're best friends now. It's such a unique thing. No other sport has that.
Starting point is 00:31:07 It's wild. It is. And, you know, it's just kind of, it's one of those kind of traditions of the game of golf that that we have. And, you know, obviously bigger sports. They don't necessarily need things like that for income or for, you know, not that it's keeping the tour or keeping the tournament to float by any means. But, I mean, it's some serious money that they're raising, whether it be for the local charities or whatnot. But I always thought Jason Duffner said it best.
Starting point is 00:31:40 He's like, just imagine, you know, LeBron's out there getting ready for like game six of the NBA finals. And here's, he's got to have a play a fun little five-on-five pickup game against us. Like guys that suck at basketball, terrible athletes, and like, yep, we're going to go out there. We're going to do it for five hours, right? Before you play. I realized early on, this is like back in 2009 when that Capulua tournament used to be the Mercedes-Benz, I played with Jeff Ogilvie. Did not talk to me for four holes, right? I'm like, I heard he was a nice guy.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Bertie's the fifth. And then he comes right over with a big smile on his face. Like, oh, I love entourage. I'm like, dude, you had me nervous. He's like, oh, sorry, I had to get my band. hearings. And then you realize, like, because that tournament counted for his score. I'm like, oh, you're playing for lots of money and a win, like the first tournament of the year. And I'm over here, like, semi-upset. You haven't talked to me in four holes.
Starting point is 00:32:33 And the whole thing, yeah, I've learned early on that I just try not to get in the way and I'm just happy to be out there. Yeah, everybody's different. There, you know, some places are even different than others, but I've fortunately been on tour long enough where the Wednesday's kind of of, you know, one of my practice rounds, I don't necessarily need to, like, go there Monday or Tuesday to learn the courses like I did early on. So it's just kind of getting acclimated with the course. But I generally will set the tone very early with my pro-and group that like, hey, obviously, I want you guys to play well. I want to play well. But like, this is not make or break my week. And like, we're out here to have fun. So, like, I'm going to, I'm going to make fun of you. I'm going to,
Starting point is 00:33:13 like, we're not putting putt in puts inside of four feet. Like, you guys paid a lot of money to be here. You don't need to be grinding. Like, let's just have fun. and have a laid back day because you know you'll have the guys oh let me play the back tees with you it's like why why would you want to do that that that doesn't sound fun i usually play with a lot of gimmies i get a lot of gimmies when i play 18 holes i'm i'm j t i'm terrible dude i can't i can't fucking play golf it's surprising and our buddy do you want to i want to is it yeah so so this so our mutual friend drew has inspired me a little bit jerry has really inspired me i'm all over started this podcast. He is all over me. And when I play, I love playing. I just haven't,
Starting point is 00:33:53 I just haven't like found the itch. You know what I mean? Yeah. But I, I'm inspired and you're inspiring me. Do I have permission to nerd out with some golf stuff with Johnny for a minute? Because I know Johnny. First of all, how is the golf game these days? The golf games all right. I think I'm hovering probably a round of, I don't know, four handicapped. I haven't played that much this year, though. This has been my least, this has been the least amount of golf I've played in a year When I first went to Scottsdale, I probably played, you know, 150 plus rounds in a year. So good to God. Scottsdale so far as the best. I bet I've only got in like 10 or 15, 10 rounds this year, 15 rounds. So I remember watching it. You did Bob does sports, right? Yeah. Do you have, do you have playing? You must get
Starting point is 00:34:37 approach all the time to start a golf YouTube channel. I think you would crush. Thought about it a little bit. It's been fun to do the Bob does sports and gone on a couple of those guys and just be able to go and have a day. Right. Would you want to do your own? You just want to pop up. in on other guys for here. I can see myself doing that for sure. That's something that definitely fits my lifestyle. You want a co-host if you want someone to have. Jerry is like hardcore selling golf to you, to me.
Starting point is 00:35:00 What is Bob? What does they do? They just ride around the car. What is this by? See? I'm the old head and I'm telling you about Bob does sports and YouTube golf and I'm the old guy. Listen, dude, I'm not watching Bob does sports on YouTube at the house.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Okay. Pretty good. It's, with those guys, it's more about the hang, right? Paparez is good, good, one good golfer. and the rest of them, Joey Colcuts gets a little high. He can get hot sometimes, but they're just, it's just a hang. And yeah. What's wrong with that?
Starting point is 00:35:27 Nothing. You would cry. I mean, your channel, I think, would be really, really good. We were talking about this. I'm just going to throw this out there right now. Dream for some golf. Anybody you could golf with. Love this question because you can go so many different.
Starting point is 00:35:40 And I got, I actually got a different one for you after this. Living. Living. We do living. All right. I think you have to play with Tiger. God play with Tiger. I think you have to play with Tiger just to see it.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Tiger now is starting to do YouTube stuff. Like he'll do a lot of stuff with Sheffler and he'll watch Sheffler hit a shot. And he gets so giddy. No, no, he actually is like, he's like marvels at, but you almost know he's like in his mind. He's probably saying like, I was doing that when I was 14, but good for you. Tiger, I'm with you on that. You can't overlook our goat. I think you have to have maybe John Daly.
Starting point is 00:36:14 That's what I was going to say. I got to hang with Daley a few months ago when he's doing the champions thing at Firestone. and his caddy was like, you need any golf clubs? What do you mean? He's like, what do you need? I'm like, I always need the three wood. He went in the house and came out
Starting point is 00:36:27 with the three wood head, not on the shaft. Like, this is what John hit today. Take it. And he handed me this stealth bomber of a three wood that I can. I brought it to the golf shop to get a shaft put in. They're like, we haven't seen, we don't have the adapters. We haven't seen this yet.
Starting point is 00:36:39 How'd you get this? They were interrogating me. Love it. All right. So Tiger, Daley, you now round it out. Probably Jordan. All right, Jordan. Big golf guy.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Obviously likes to gamble. I was going to say there'll be a lot of money. Maybe the three of us find. Maybe they tap you again. Maybe the three of us find ourselves. I think the three of us should find. None of you. We should find ourselves on a golf course soon.
Starting point is 00:37:02 I think that's what we should. Yeah, let's do that. Let's do that. I appreciate you guys having me on. It's great, great job. I've been to it all. I went to the Masters. We're going to talk God.
Starting point is 00:37:11 We're ending with golf. You ain't getting out of a golf conversation. I'll talk golf all day wrong. I went to the Masters and let me tell you, that was, That was unreal. Like, you walk in, and it's so quiet, and there's thousands of people. No one's on their phones. The phones are gone.
Starting point is 00:37:24 I used to pay phone that was free. I used to put a quarter. I remember back in the day, back in my day, we had a quarter and we put the pay. I called my wife. I was like, I'm calling you from a pay phone. I just thought I had to call. 1,800 collect. Well, I had to meet someone.
Starting point is 00:37:38 And I was like, how do I meet this person? Like, they're not here yet. Okay, 1230, let's meet by the oak tree. You'll know what I'm talking about. And so I had to call my wife to text that person to do it. So, yeah, that's exactly what happened. So I hung it up and that's exactly what happened. I met the person at 1230 at the oak tree.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Then watching all the drives. Like, you see these people. Oh, man. I'm like, these guys are smaller than me. How would they be able to drive? Like Rory, when he walks into a building or walks up to his tea, it's like a superstar, like an absolute aura of an icon. right like everyone else walks up and you're like okay okay clap clap some people get big
Starting point is 00:38:23 pops and others even bryson de chambo who's wildly popular right now uh youtube golf is like made him like exploded yeah i mean especially listening to him and hearing him and hearing story and see how see how scientific he is the fans are really into it but there's a difference between when rory walks up to the tea and brys and shambo walks up at the tea it's just there's just a different feel it's a different aura and for him to go back to back that was pretty special watch and then also to eat there. I went like I wanted to experience everything. So yeah, did you go? Did you do the whole?
Starting point is 00:38:54 I'm sure you bought all the member billion too, right? I went to the gift shop. I looked for the gnomes. Didn't get one. I'm still trying to get one. Try to get the gnome, but uh, I bought my daughter. I waited in line for the gift shop.
Starting point is 00:39:06 Like I didn't want to take like I didn't want them, hey, we'll bring up the back door. No, no, no, no. I'm waiting in line in the gift shop. I'm doing the everything that, that the masters has to offer. So walk through the line. got my stuff.
Starting point is 00:39:19 I got a nice hoodie, a hat. I got my wife a hat, my daughter's hats and shirts. So I got a haul. And then I went to this session. This year's? Was it this year? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Oh, you just went to this year's? They broke down this swing on ESPN. Was it North? Right. North broke down your swing. That's crazy. How amazing is that?
Starting point is 00:39:37 Like, I'm like, they're like, I'm at, on ESPN and all of a sudden I have a golf pro like analyzing my swing on the Masters and saying that, hey, it's a pretty good swing. I'm like, yes. You got. The future's bright, right?
Starting point is 00:39:49 The future is bright for you. By the way, I would have been fucking shit my pants out there too, dude. Yeah. I mean, it was, I was wearing all white. So, yeah. I was trying to do best dressed. So, yeah, I mean, it was pretty sweet. And then the concessions, like the food, $1.50.
Starting point is 00:40:05 $1.50 for a sandwich. I love that. I mean, why can't we go back to this? I agree. Why am I hearing at Coachella that fries are $38? dollars like go back to dollar 50 yes because i love golf like i love golf i try to sneak out of i will i will lie i will do whatever i got to do to play some golf okay how does kelsey feel about the game i saw the pictures of you and rom and hatton i saw i saw i saw i did a little deep dive
Starting point is 00:40:37 i saw a little swing great positions my guy how does she feel is she into golf does she because like it As a married man now is the old head of the group, it's a hot button topic at times in my household. I'm not going to lie. It's a great question because I would say it's also evolving too because I'm curious what Kelsey's relationship is going to be like with golf as we move forward. She knows I'm obsessed. Like it's not even a question. If you ask you right now what my favorite thing to do in my free time, she will always say golf
Starting point is 00:41:07 because it's the right answer. I taught tennis for a living. I picked up the sport when I was about 21, 22. I started playing more consistently because I worked at a golf. club and it was so easy to get out there. But my obsession got crazy. And the funny thing is, is Kelsey's first experience of golf was the craziest one ever that she might be the only person that's ever been able to experience this. It was going to a master's on Saturday. That was her first introduction to golf in general, going to a live golf event. And she was like, this is really fun.
Starting point is 00:41:38 I'm like, you don't even know. Like, you don't understand my mind is blown right now. And this is what you're going to be able to see. And it was hard to, like, live up to it after. But she got to come with Matt and I to Scotland on an amazing trip with Travis Matthew to go and do for me to play. And it was cool because that was the time where she got to go and just she's walked with me. And she enjoys it.
Starting point is 00:42:00 She likes going on the golf course. She likes seeing it. But now that we've done so many of those trips, she's starting to be like, I kind of want to play. And she's got a decent swing. By the way. I'm curious. I'm curious to see what it would be like.
Starting point is 00:42:13 That's the greatest. thing you could do is Jerry and I in marriage you got to set the foundation early you got to set like you got you just got to say hey babe listen like we're going to golf together it's going to be five or six hours a day just want to make sure like negotiations start to come and play a lot when you get kids you're not there yet but yeah I mean dude this is something Jerry is a living negotiation with his wife when it revolves around golf I'm like well I I'm going to listen to this I hope this goes over well I hope this goes over well she likes you're hey you're all too good stuff I would say I would I say, Kelsey's been amazing about the idea of like, I love you having that time to go and spend with the boys.
Starting point is 00:42:49 And it's a healthy way to get out. So that's, that's been awesome. She knows it's good for me mentally and all that kind of stuff. But I am really, like, curious to see this next chapter. If she starts to get into it, if it's something we can do together, because I love that idea as well, too. You tell me we can add that into our vacation plans on the regular. Dude, she's got a nice bag. I'm trying to make everything as perfect as possible when she wants to go on play.
Starting point is 00:43:10 By the way, that's how they all start. Then it just changes. I'm sure. No, no, stay positive. Stay positive. Let's keep it positive.
