Starting point is 00:05:39 For those who may not be familiar with you, can you tell us a little bit about you and your podcast? Sure. So I started this podcast, you know, during the quarantine. I mean, I think, you know, me and 17 million other people started a podcast during the quarantine, right? So about, you know, a year, a little over a year ago, I kind of started getting a little awake to what's really going on in the world. And as I started looking at Star Wars, you know, it's something I've always loved since I was a kid. But then with, you know, a fresh set of eyes, you start looking at some stuff and you're starting to look at stuff a little bit sideways like, wait a second. Is this, is this telling me what I think it's telling me? Is it intentional events that go on in the real world and the one will tackle off the bat is is just kind of, you know, a communism, totalitarian governments. I think that's something that you know most, most people are familiar with when it comes to Star Wars in the Empire. And, and a lot of how that shakes out in our world. And really what's going on right th in th in th in th in th in th in th in th in th in th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that th th that that that that that that thi thi thi thi. that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi and the Empire. There's so many parallels and so many things within there. So that's kind of what I'm doing. So I already got that in the bag. It's just kind of making those connections.

Starting point is 00:07:10 And it's such a wide universe. There's so much to digest. I want to get it. I want to hear about all this. I want to get your thoughts. like Star Wars as well, right? Are you Star Wars guy? Yeah, yeah, I am. Surprise. I'm a, yeah, for sure. So original, original tril. Yeah, that's why I want to get into, you know, Star Wars is like, I don't know if young people aren't into it as much as the the older generation is, but I mean, I really like these prequels. The younger kids love the pre prequels I don't get it but they love the prequels they go gag

Starting point is 00:07:45 they love do they love the wokeness of it I don't know about that I mean what I mean I'm talking about like Phantom Man is you know tack I can't even remember their names now it's been so long but like the mandolorian I think we can all agree it was absolutely phenomenal yeah that's the the th. th. th. their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they's. they's. th. they're they're they're th. they're they're they're they're they're they're like. they're they're like. they're like. they're like. they're like. they're like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I they's, I they's, I they's, I they's, I they's, I they's. But then with all the stuff going on with Gina Carano and all that stuff, it's just like, I know that younger people maybe aren't into what that represents and stuff like that, but is the passion for Star Wars as strong as it was. Now, Star Wars was the first, not the first movie ever saw, the first movie ever the first movie we ever saw, the first movie we ever saw was Peter Pan, but like I think the second or third one was in fact Star Wars at the drive-in with my grandmother.

Starting point is 00:08:30 And I remember like it was mind blowing, but is it the same kind of connection with these younger people? Yeah, so with the new movies, you know, ever since Disney has bought it, it definitely, you can kind of see a shift in the fan base. You know, you talk about a lot of this woke stuff, a lot of, you know, things they've been weaving in and out through these stories. Um, what they're really trying to do, and you know, you see this in a lot of, in, a lot of stuff.

Starting point is 00:08:57 You see it in politics, you see it in a lot, a lot, base and an older fan base, right? Because we all grew up, we saw the original trilogy, you know, prequels there are kind of, you know, a mixed match of those. What they're doing with the sequel trilogy is kind of way off in left field. And a lot of people, you know, my age or older that really grew up with the original trilogy are kind of thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, thi, the, the, the, thi, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, the, the, the, the, thr, thri, thri, thri, thri. thri. thri. thri. thri. thri. thr-a, thr-a, thr- up with the original trilogy are kind of pushing back saying, well, we don't really like it because of what it's doing with the Luke Skywalker character, what it's doing with these story elements. It was supposed to be this kind of concise story. And now they're going off in all these crazy directions. But what they're doing to drive this divide is, well, if you don't like these sequels, well, it's obviously because you're a racist because there's a black character, there's an Asian character.

Starting point is 00:09:46 You're obviously a racist. It's like, no, no, no, I just, the story wasn't great. You know, or you hate women. Or you hate women, right? You either, you either hate black people, you hate Asians or you hate women, or you hate, three, you know, and it's kind of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of their, it's kind of, it's, it's, it's, it's, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it, it, their, it, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their... their. their. their. their. It's, their about certain story elements without that coming up. And I think Disney shot themselves in the foot because they tried to get woke and they did try to have a diverse cast and there's nothing wrong with that in its face, but they didn't give those diverse characters much to do in the universe. Abrams, right? But then, when the director for the second film, as I understand it was, it was, it was, it was, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. tho. tho. thi. thi. thi. thi. to, to, to, to, to, to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the the the the the to. the the the the the the the the the the the th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to.? And but then when the director for the second film, as I understand, it was essentially given no guidance. And you know, I mean, like, no, like, hey, this is the story

Starting point is 00:10:48 we're going for over this three film arc. He just did whatever he wanted to, which in that film basically reversed everything that was built up in the first film. And then they got because, because fans, because fans revoted, the, because, because, the fans, the fans, their fans, their fans, because fans, their fans, their fans, their fans, their fans, their fans, their fans, their fans, their fans, their fans, their fans, their th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. This is this story story story story story this story story story thi. thi, thi, the ones that buy shit, read that that way, the ones that actually make their money off of. Because they revolted, they brought Abrams back to kind of, you know, pull it out of the ditch, which is, I mean, it was an impossible job at that point, and Abrams himself is not the most inspired guy. the biggest film franchise in the world that way, you know, where each, they, they, they manage the biggest film franchise in the world that way, you know, where each director just did whatever the hell they wanted to? Well what they wanted to, they wanted to basically set it up like a Marvel franchise, right?

Starting point is 00:11:34 You see these Marvel movies coming out three, four, five of them a year. When Disney bought Star Wars, they saw it as an investment opportunity. They didn't see it as as a franchise as a franchise franchise franchise franchise franchise as a franchise franchise franchise franchise as a franchise franchise franchise as a franchise franchise franchise as a franchise franchise as a franchise as a franchise franchise as a franchise as a franchise't see it as a franchise with a mythology that is a little bit different than Marvel. I mean, I enjoy the Marvel movies, but they're pretty throwaway, right? The same kind of story beats happening every movie. Yeah, and you're right. These were blockbuster auteur films that George Lucas made. I mean, they were huge, but they were a tour films. He made every decision. It was one one the the the the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I they they thi, I thi, I thi, I they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I I I I I I th. I I I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi. I thi. I thin. I thin. I thin. I thin. I th th th throoooooo. I th th that throoooooooo. I the. I that. I thi who plotted them out. I see what you're saying, yeah, if they tried to make them like Marvel films.

Starting point is 00:12:06 And people, you know, have different thoughts about the whole prequel trilogy, but at least I would say that they had a concise story from start to finish. What they did with these, they wanted a Star Wars movie to like a factor. There's so much mythology. There's so much. I mean there's like Greek mythology, Egyptian, all this ancient mythology in religions they bring into this. You can't just crank that kind of stuff out in a meat factory. It doesn't, it doesn't work that way. So what happened is that first movie the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie came out, the the first movie. In the the the the the the the the the first the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, their their their, their, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first the first movie, their their, the first the first, the first, the first, the first, the first, the first the first the first the first the first the first the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, the first movie, their their their their their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their the had already had the script and everything in pre-production for the next movie. So they didn't even wait to see what happened when that first movie came out, what the reaction to it was, because I think that would have completely changed their direction. I would say, like, the Force Awakens, you know, a lot of people and I kind of agree, it's kind of a rehash of the original movie, their movie, you know, a lot, th....... And, th. And, th. And, th. And, their, th. And, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their first first first first first first first first movie, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their of the same story beats, but it had a lot of great humor in it. And I think that's one key element to Star Wars that a lot of people don't always realize is go watch those original movies.

Starting point is 00:13:08 I mean, they're really, really funny. And like, in like oddly timed humor in kind of precarious situations, it kind of lightens the moods. It kind of lightens the mood to that. They could have said, okay, well, why don't we have the next movie have that same kind of feel and vibe to it instead of having a different director who Ryan Johnson, who directed that episode eight, his whole deal is subverting everything. And he's clearly said that in many interviews. He wants to subvert audiences, expectations about what they want to see, almost to the nth degree, right?

Starting point is 00:13:45 Like just to show how smart he is, he's the smartest guy in the room. And I don't think that really has a place in Star Wars. I mean, he's made a lot of other great films, but I don't think that really had a place in Star Wars, basically putting his own touch on, like, this is my movie. This is our movie. Like we are we are th, we are th, we are th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I, I thin, I thin, I don't, I don't, I don't, thin, thin, thin, th. I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I don't, I don't, I don't, the, the the thin, thin, thin, thin. Like we inherently own this franchise because we put so much time and effort and energy and investment, you know, mentally, physically, emotional, all the into it for 30-40 years. You don't get to just come in there and act like it's your own personal playground and do whatever the hell you want.

I'm curious, Kyle, what do you make of, there are some, again, these are rumors, but there's a bit of a civil war going on at Disney over Star Wars between John Favreau and Dave Faloni and then Kathleen Kennedy, the woman who was kind of installed when they bought the franchise to over the future of it. Like how it's going to be run, whether it's going to be like Mandalorian where Luke Skywalker is still a badass and he's not, you know, this disillusioned, you know, Vietnam veteran

Starting point is 00:22:38 who's lost his marbles. What, what do you put any credence into those rumors about that? Yeah, absolutely. And you can definitely see that the Kathleen Kennedy in that side is a lot more of the woke trying to get the younger kids into it and the Favre Faloni side is let's harken back to what Star Wars was. Let's use real sets. Let's use imagery that reminds everybody of what Star Wars was at one point.

And Hollywood, Disney, they stop making art for people. They are now making art for banks. And the people running everything. And that is why nobody's watching their shit anymore.
