And Disney, checkmated his ass this week. Basically, right before DeSantis' group of commissioners or whatever was supposed to take over, Disney passed a bunch of rules that have the weight of law, basically, that gave them power to do whatever the hell they want, they don't even have to ask to build stuff anymore.

Starting point is 02:01:25 They can build stuff as tall as they want forever. Right before the new board was supposed to come in. So the new board comes in is like, we don't have any power. We can't do, we can maintain the roads. That's it. So I'm just. Now that just kind of sets it up. The Walt Disney Company used a legal clause that name checks King Charles III to apparently thwart Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's attempt to strip the company of its self-governance power in the state. For nearly a year, like I said, state legislators encouraged by DeSantis have sought to exert more control over the company's Florida-based theme park. Starting point is 02:02:09 Until recently, there have been no major public discussion about dissolving Disney's long-established special district, which it's occupied for 55 years. Here's the thing, though, Disney was real quiet. But what it turns out they were doing was they were having these meetings and having public hearings that nobody came to where they passed all this shit just quiet because nobody was like oh what are they talking about you know corporate governance who cares not gonna reporters didn't go nobody went to these public hearings so what they did was and let me just get this while Disney has remained quiet on the matter for months

It seems the House of the Mouse has been hatching a plan to retain its control over the land. On February 8th, the day before the Florida House voted to put DeSantis in charge, the previously Disney Allied Board signed a long-lasting development agreement that drastically limits the control that could be exercised over the company and its district. As part of a 30-year development agreement, Disney no longer needs board approval to build high-density projects or buildings of any height and can sell or assign development rights. It also bans the board from using Disney's name or any of its characters.

Starting point is 02:03:21 The agreement includes a royal clause that dates back to 1692 in Britain and would extend its term limit for decades. This declaration, this is from, this is what it says at the end of the thing, it says, this declaration shall continue in effect until 21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III of King of England living as of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III of King of England living as of the date of this declaration, the document says. This kind of clause is most often used in the UK. We don't even do this here.

Starting point is 02:03:53 I don't understand it. And typically, it's used when it comes to trusts and provides a bumper against perpetuities. So as long as one of those grandchildren make it to 80, this is also in the thing, this would be for at least a hundred years is what they're saying now. I just don't. So Disney has become the government of that, is what they, that little land, but they were, but now they have way more power now. They can build stuff without approval, and they can create.
