Starting point is 00:04:35 And I just, I do the exact same thing, you know, it's like, you know, I started, you know, comedy about, I mean, I started when I was 22, I'm 50 now, but. You don't look at girl. Thank you, girlfriend, but, you know, and so I go to the comedy store, I start with a class and includes like Sebastian Maskelko, Mazzz, Brani, Brett Ernst, all these wonderful comics, and you know, there was a time where, you know, Sebastian I were co-headlining together and together and together and together... and together. and you know there was a time where we're you know Sebastian I were co-headlining together and we would flip who would go last yeah me and Mascalco we'd flip and Mascalco just played Mass in Square Garden

Starting point is 00:05:14 whereas I sold out a gay bar in Jacksonville Sam Tripoli ah what I can't are you doing this? What? I asked them because my best friend from high school is a humongous fan of his and it was their anniversary. I'm like dude I hate doing this and I did hate doing it. But it's like I'm sorry that I interrupted your story with a terrible Sebastian Manascalco impression. No, it's fine.

Starting point is 00:05:41 And I'll get back to that to why I brought that up, but, you know, it's so. Oh, because we compare, we always compare ourselves to people. We started with people we think we are similar to in some way. And it's the biggest demon. And I've seen like lower vibrational comics do this too, where they're just fucking miserable. And all they do is attract and put out negativity. But I have so many examples of people that I know, and maybe that have worked with, that they believe they're as talented or more talented than you.

Starting point is 00:06:13 They believe they deserve more than you, and they somehow think, like, they don't understand, like, even if I died tomorrow, it's not like you would absorb all of my fans, followers, opportunities. I love what you're saying. Yeah, people get very wrapped up in comparison and it keeps you small and it keeps your, it's stifling energetically and nobody likes a jeel like that and nobody likes a jealous cunt. But people don't realize it. They can't get out of their own way. And show biz is it's like an industry of comparison. It's so competitive. It's nothing is guaranteed. There's no stability.

Starting point is 00:06:56 And I guess you can't help but be envious of people who shoot out after six months or people who become a household name after 10 years and that they zero I guess. Logic. Nothing is for sure. There's really no logic to it and comedy is much different than any other form of art. It's very weird and we'll get into a little bit of that because I think this could be a great part of our conversation. But you know, it's like Sebastian was playing and they've heard this story on the show, but I still makes me laugh. He played Madison Square Garden. I played a gay bar in Jacksonville. But let me tell you something.

Starting point is 00:07:36 We sold out that gay bar. We sold it out. There was a packed ass gay bar. So the point is, it's like, I love what you're doing. You remind me very much of my own career. My buddy John Mitchell, who's gone down like the same road we have where we've established a podcast. We've established some internet presence. We're blessed that a group of people think what we're saying makes sense and they want to support us. And we're on to go. Because, I mean, like, you're a great example to me, and I, every time I'm on a show, I tell

Starting point is 00:08:10 you this story, but it's like when I was listening to ESPM one time and this, this, the, one of the sports center anchors was talking about how, you know, when all the experts pick a prospect, that prospect can do no wrong in their eyes. No matter what, they never talk about all the negatives that the prospect do, they only talk about the positives. But if someone comes out of nowhere and they didn't see it coming, all they do is nitpick this person because they're upset that they got past them. And I see that. You are a great example of that. You are somebody who just who at some point and we'll get into that about how you just, you just had this moment where you realize you want to go this way and you just you work your ass off, you're doing daily shows, you're on YouTube all the time, you're on all these things and you're doing it and there's, I'm sure there's some people who don't like it. I thrown. I'm sure there's some people who don't like it, because I know there's people in my world that don't like. I just recently had a good friend of mine who I've helped get work basically tell me he's

Starting point is 00:09:31 like he's so sad and angry that this is how I had to make it because I deserve, I deserve more. I'm go, bro, I'm 50. I'm a headlining A-list comedy clubs. You know, I'm a headlining A-list comedy clubs. You know, I'm blessed, bro. I've, you know, I'm saying he was annoyed at how you made it or how he's had to make it. How I've made it, meaning through conspiracies, because they think that's a niche or something that I just kind, you know, it's like, you get it from the liberals, you get it from the people in the space that aren't where they want to be.. to be. they. they. they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they to be to be they to be they to be the they. It's the their their their their they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're their they're their their their their their their their their their.. was. their their their. they was. was. Starting point is 00:10:30 Bills are paid, kids are happy. Life is good. That's literally like the checking of the boxes. And also being 100% yourself. I mean, you were having possibly being a Satan worshipper. So, possibly. Yeah, possibly. But, I mean, that was the argument though, possibly.

Starting point is 00:10:52 Yeah, yeah, right, at that time. And that really, that really woke me up. But, um, so yeah, it's like super interesting. So I have this new thing. Starting point is 00:11:26 from the Living Church of God, it's called, and it's about how Satan is the king of this world. Satan runs this world. And it was a really interesting video, and I really enjoyed discussing it, and then I really enjoyed making comedy out of it. Like it was really fun. So I'm like, that'd be an interesting thing like to just start going through the Bible

Starting point is 00:11:51 and just start doing like talking about that stuff. My friend Melanie Mac just started a YouTube channel where she's reading the Bible. And I just messes her, I'm so happy you started something like this because I have been looking for somebody to like help, because the Bible is so intimidating. I've been telling myself for two years I'm going to start reading it. It took me a year to get a Bible. And to just, I'm like, where do you start? And I'm like, where do you start? to. And I'm like, where so thrilled that she started that and it's like it's soothing to listen to it's like you could just put it on when you're

Starting point is 00:12:27 falling asleep so I hope more of that is coming. Well I want to do that so I was talking to my good friend Mike Romanelli who who runs the dojo of comedy and Morse Plains and I was like you know I'd like to do this but I know the minute I to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the that that that that that that that the that that that the that that the that the that the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the told. told. the told. to. the to. the the to. to. the to. to. to. that. that. that. that. I. I. I. I'mto do this, but I know the minute I start doing that, I'm just going to hear the word grift constantly. Just, oh, you're just doing this because you're a grifting and you know, you just found a niche and you're, and it's like, no, I'm just like, that's where I am spiritually right now. It's like, I mean, I talked to Johnny about it all. Like, I'm open-minded to it all. Like, I'm really into that. Like, I want to get into that. So it's like, we hear that shit all the time. Like, you're only people that are gonna call it a grift too. They're not gonna be your fan, number two, thing long enough people stop calling it a grift and then there's certain people that will say you're grifting no matter what you're successful because

Starting point is 00:13:28 they're jealous and it's easier them to take you down or or try to take you down than for them to do anything. Yeah there's just a lot of miserable people out there that just have no purpose so their purpose is to you know wage war and it it means nothing. Yeah you're either either their their their their purpose is to, you know, wage war and it means nothing. Yeah, you're either creating or destroying, basically. Yeah, right. That's a great point. You're either creating or destroying. So I love what you're doing. I think it's great. I see your hustle. And I always open up our shows talking about that because I think you deserve a lot of respect because you you 100 percent.

Starting point is 00:14:07 But I'm a woman Sam. I know, I know. Why aren't you fucking pregnant in the kitchen? But the point is, um, but so as we talk about every time, so back in the day, off the grid, Ryan was my co-host and the show had a much darker feel to it because I was allowing off the grid to book and I look back and I'm like okay ma'am we were we were looking at dark stuff he's an interesting guy but he does need someone I wonder what his sign is like he has he untethered really has the tendency to brood and get dark and get low and like there's being the theyrid to be the the grid the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to to to to to the grid the grid the grid to to to to to to the to the the the the the the the the the the really has the tendency to brood and get dark and get low and

Starting point is 00:14:48 like there's being in your feelings and then there's like wallowing out of control with no end in sight and no, no light to perk you up. Like he needs a gang to his yang or something just from the few interactions. Yeah. And I love off degree. He's a good friend. He is, he is, he is a nihilist. He is an atheist. And he's on his journey and I love him. And like when he's ready, we'll have talks. And I have a couple friends like that that are like really into the dark, like from a like a point,... punk rock uh... you know uh... i don't know how describe it like uh... sex drugs and rock and roll... insufferably libertarian black pills

Starting point is 00:15:36 uh... yeah yeah i know i know a lot of people like that and uh... I just don't think that that's best for me to like live in that space because I don't... And you're Sam, you're always someone who I've always loved your attitude just about the world and when you talk about conspiracies and what you have control over what you don't, where things are leading, just like sifting through everything. And at the end of the day, I feel like your message has always be like, take care of your own, take care of your energy, your attitude,

Starting point is 00:16:12 and like just put one foot in front of the other and just like focus on yourself and what you have control over and not, and not, don't let, like finding out the truth or whatever or or talking about the truth or picking things apart Like take you down such a deep dark place that you're not your best self for the people around you I appreciate that because that is my my whole thing. It's like we're in this giant demoralization campaign, but my friends who are still into the darkness right and? And I was, I wasn't necessarily like, yeah, you know, Satan, yeah, I was never that guy, but I like, I really, really thrived in the darkness. Like, I mean, not thrive, but man, I was like, I was in it,

Starting point is 00:16:57 and I was engaging in it, and I was drugs, sex, right? A comedian, comedians and creative people like you're successful because like the degree to which you can be in touch with your darkness I think that's equal and opposite to the degree that you can put out light or put out humor like it's your emotional depth right like you meet some people where they're emotional they're like this they're this much positive they're this much negative but they stay in this area. And I think the more creative you are, the more tapped in you are to your own darkness. It's like, so, okay, that gives you this much, but you can also go probably this much that way. You just have to work on that because you I think you are capable of having it like equal live there. I agree, but these people, I'm trying to think, I know one, two offhand, three, that just have at this

Starting point is 00:17:54 age, you know, one of them's in their 50s, the other one's just turned like 40. They're always, always in this kind of war to survive. They're always in this war to survive. They're always living check to check. It's never like these moments where they're like, I'm so happy everything's going great. Everything is like- Are they comics?

Starting point is 00:18:20 They are comics. I think there has always been, and I notice this a lot from starting in New York City, there's always been a kind of like glamorization of the poverty aspects of stand-up, like almost that makes it more pure or that you're more creative or you're more in touch or you're like there, for some reason, there's some people who think that that's better, like you're going to churn out better material that way. Oh, that you're a sellout if you make, you know, $20, you know, if you make more, there's people who think the more money you make the worst you get or that, I mean, yeah, you look at someone like Kimmel or any of the late night hosts, you're like, yeah, they're they're coddledled, they're soft, they're soft, they're soft, they're c... they're c. their. their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. T. T. T. T. T. T. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. T. T. T. Yeah, they're, they're, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah. Starting point is 00:19:06 But I think the other extreme of that is like you can't just wallow and like low-key keep yourself in poverty because you think that's somehow like better or more like artsy. I'm not explaining it well. I think poverty is good in comedy till sometime in your mid-30s. And then you gotta be like, okay, what am I doing with my life? And I'll be honest with you, I was checked to check until I was 42 years old

Starting point is 00:19:34 because the internet wasn't what it is now. And I see younger comics who are blessed that they are coming up in a time where people like my generation, you know, were able to create a format and a system and a playbook to make it. Now I'm not saying they saw Sam Tripoli and we're like, I'm going to do this, but like, Death Squad, which was with like Joe Rogin and and Brian Red Band and like that whole group that came out of that and out of that sprung like, you know, Ari moves to New York and he kind of joins forces with the Legion of Skanks and that ecosystem blows up and now you got a whole- Yeah, all that stuff.

It's now the worst part about Chrissy is that behind closed doors, they're questioning everything from the same angle that you are. But the presentation has to be like to be like th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th everything from the same angle that you are. But the presentation has to be like, I'm a conformist. But behind closed doors, they're like, dude, the house is on fire, what the fuck is going on? But they don't have, you know, it's like the old saying, like, you know, hard times make, strong men, strong men make good times, good times, weak men make hard times.......
