Starting point is 00:03:33 And it's good to see you shooting your special out there. For those who may not be familiar with you, Greg, let's say someone lived under a rock. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and where our listeners can find you? Well, I'm a guy who I've split my time between writing for TV shows over the years, one four Emmys and doing stand-up comedy for 33 years, hosting three pie, host three podcasts now, Fitzdog Radio where I interview people. I'll be interviewing you tomorrow if you have anything left under the hood. No, I'm excited. What time's that at? 11 o'clock. Perfect. Very excited. And then I do Sunday papers, which comes out on Sundays, which is me and Mike Gibbons, who's a big producer, guy who's been my best friend since college. And we go through the

Starting point is 00:04:24 newspaper every week, business, sports, entertainment college and we go through the newspaper every week business, sports, entertainment and we cover stories from from each part of the news and then there's childish I do with Allison Rosen where we talk about raising kids. Starting point is 00:05:34 I know we talked a little bit about what we want to talk about? Have you, are you a conspiracy theor? Have you ever been in conspiracy the the the the the conspiracy I used to enjoy it more until the world got so political and I feel like every conspiracy theory now has an agenda. And I used to like it when it was just more of, I remember my friend Ross Broccoli who was a farmer from Lincoln, Nebraska, he got me high. I hadn't smoked pot. I got sober and I was sober for like 15 years. And then I got in this pickup truck and we drove around Lincoln, Nebraska smoking pot. And then we went back to his apartment and we started watching videos of the moon landing.

Starting point is 00:06:19 And I couldn't believe it. By the end of it, I literally flew home to LA going like, we didn't fucking land on the moon.the whole thing was staged it's crazy and there's still a part of me to this day that that isn't a hundred percent sold I'm mostly sold but I like that there's some doubt I like that I think one of the things I said I wanted to talk to you about today is that the chaos, the book about the Manson murders that Tom O'Neill wrote. And that in the end he doesn't tie it all up. He doesn't say emphatically, this is what happened. He pokes holes in the Bolioese story.

Starting point is 00:06:57 He pokes holes in the CIA and basically lets you see that what you thought was true is not true, but he's not gonna tell you what the answer is. Yeah, it's super interesting, right? It's like this presentation of like what is going on in the world and then this slow possible realization that maybe it isn't exactly what we've been told over a long time and yeah, I mean, it's kind of crazy that, you know, I'm in a play, I'm very deep down the rabbit hole obviously and you know, if you go, Sam, what do you think's going on? I go, everything's an intelligence trick at some point to manipulate and to, uh, to manifest a certain

Starting point is 00:07:40 type of view. And, like Charles Manson is a great example that like a really great example of like when you study that guy's story it's like you know first of all you know basically raised in the system abandoned and raise in the system horrible things happen him through the way but then as he kind of starts to grow into a man like like he just gets into so much chaos, right? And then there seems to be not a lot of repercussions for it where it's it's like how does this guy get arrested and immediately released constantly all the time and you're like, is there an invisible hand at work? And what one thing I was...

Starting point is 00:08:25 Yeah, the guy who was his parole officer, something Smith, he was taken off of dozens of cases. You know the average parole officers got 30, 50 clients. Is that what you call them clients? That's the new age way of talking about anybody. He's a client. And so he became his only parolee. He had one fucking parolee. Meanwhile, the guy had been, he had, by the time he was 25, he had spent more time behind bars than free. He was, he was a juvenile from the age of like 13. And so he basically stole cars, had sex with underage women, was caught, and every time they took him in jail, somebody in the higher up said no, release him. And he kept

Starting point is 00:09:14 getting out for like eight years. Yeah, it's kind of crazy. They could go there for free and get a shop, but they were kind of like answering questions and all this stuff. Starting point is 00:10:53 specialized in reprogramming people using LSD. And he did it in response to troops coming home who had been brainwashed and trying to get them straight again. Starting point is 00:11:45 what do we see? What do we hear? We hear like everyone's on it, Adderall, and they're all micro-dosing. Right, right. So it's like a smaller version of like, what did they learn in this data? What did they learn that people who are taking psychedelics,

Starting point is 00:12:02 but also tweaking their balls up, are they easily manipulated? Can they can can can can can can they can their can can their they can they can they can their their they can their they can their they, can, can, can, can, can, can, can, can, can, thuic thuic, thuicuicuicuicuicuicuiting thia, thia, thia, thiol-a, thiol-a, thiolvesy, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, thiiia, thia, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thia, toea, toea, toea, toeauiauiauiauiauiauiauia, thia, thia, thia are taking psychedelics but also tweaking their balls up, are they easily manipulated? Can they push them in certain directions and stuff like that? Everything's data, dude. It's so interesting. And then you actually take a look at the actual murders and the discussions of what happened during those murders. And were the FBI outside just chilling why they were going on, which is a super creepy thought. Yeah, I mean, it's entirely possible because they had, at the time that the murders took place, first of all, the murders took place. They didn't find them for, what, like, three months?

Starting point is 00:12:43 And they're sitting in this ranch where there was an informant inside the ranch giving them information. There was proven that there was a there was plain reconnaissance missions going on over the ranch. And, uh, and they didn't do anything about it. Now, was the plant telling Charles Mansa was going on or was the plan telling the FBI was going on? The FBI or the CIA, I'm not sure which agency it was, but you know, they were surveilled.

Starting point is 00:13:16 And yeah, I mean, the question is, like, why would the CIA is not supposed to be operating on domestic 100% citizens. And so just the fact that they were a part of this and they came in and you say, well, why didn't they just hire somebody? I mean, what was the motivation for killing Sharon Tate and the other people that were at the house that night? And, uh, and it all goes back to how, you know, the whole MK Ultra was about disrupting the left, disrupting the anti-war movement, disrupting the civil rights movement. So they said, let's get a hippie in there. Let's plant a hippie in there, control his mind with LSD. And then let's, I don't know that they knew specifically the crime that that Manson

Starting point is 00:14:07 and his followers would commit, but they knew something bad would happen and that it was effectively the end of the 60s. A lot of people use that phrase about the Manson murders, that it took away. Yeah, it took away the legitimacy of a lot of these anti-war. Like peace love. It's like the peace love. How does it peace love when the guy just murdered people off of, off of LSD? Just everything you said just goes out the window for that. Yeah, it's super interesting because they like, yeah, they did want to kill the anti-war

Starting point is 00:14:38 movement. I've always said that, you know, Vietnam was a very very. because you saw like all these mass protests on like the largest scale ever across all demographics. And I think they're, that scared the elites. That's scared that like, are these people, is this population getting too smart? Are they, are they too united? And like ever since then we've seen the slow erosion of public schools and the slow erosion of the education system and the divide and conquer that's been going on.

Starting point is 00:15:13 But you know, you get into the whole thing with the FBI knowing all this stuff, you know, I don't know how much, how deep you go into a lot of the stuff that's going on today. So this, you know, Johnny and I, Johnnythe guy, Johnny's with the glass and hat, we talk about all the time that like, out of nowhere, Twitter has just become like snuff. There's like every, like, every, there's like a cat video, a tweaking video, now there's a snuff video. What? Like, literally, five minutes? The first, th.. th. th. th. th. th. th. I. the th. I, phone when I opened Twitter was an image that had

Starting point is 00:15:45 to be censored of a guy who decapitated his father. Yes! And then it was on Facebook, parading his head around? That, I mean, no way. It's so violent. I mean, it's just, it's... Whoa! And I know why.

I think we're also addicted to like emotion, like, you know, it's like, I mean, I always talk about it's on stage. It's like, you'll do a show, gets offended by your joke and she'll want to go talk to the the manager about how you know people's

Starting point is 00:17:05 feelings and then she'll get in a car drive home and go listen to a murder podcast. Yeah, right. And then you talk to them they're always like I'm just trying to learn how not to get murdered which is the most ridiculous. That's like saying I watch the UFC so I can learn karate. Starting point is 00:17:50 And part of the reason why. You were a fighter, huh? Yeah, I was, but I was a small guy, so I was fast. I punched fast, but I also hung out with big guys. And they always broke up the fight and I was always so glad. Like my two roommates in college was the captain of the football team and the star running back at the Devon team. This is a D1 football squad. And so I would start shit and they would break it up.

Starting point is 00:18:14 But then I always wondered like, what would it happen if nobody broke up a fight? And there's this amazing video of Rip Torn and who is the writer in the 70s. Yeah, yeah, yeah, hold on. He got into a fist fight on a movie set and it was out in a field. Norman Mailer. Norman Mailer. So Norman Mailer and Rip Torren get into this fist fight in a field and no one fucking breaks it up because they get the film cameras rolling and it was just a study in exhaustion because if you've been in a fight you know that you basically have about 20 seconds until your arms are dead and these

Well, I think Dennis Wilson, in particular, was very tied in with Charles Manson. They were very close. And I think, I think actually Manson co-wrote one of the Beach Boy songs. And he was in their world.

Starting point is 00:27:36 And I think that there was a house that they all lived in. That was Dennis Wilson's house. And it was women that was Dennis Wilson's house and had like 30 bedrooms and it was women that would sleep with you. Just, you know, Mansa would say you sleep with him and they did. That's such a crazy time. Meanwhile, I can't even get the one woman who lives in my house to have sex with me. Does she know about your Emmys?

Starting point is 00:28:35 I would say, well, a Tony Award, you can, or a Grammy you can get for reading an audio book, so that's a piece of cake. I think Michelle Obama got one of those. And then an Oscar, I think an Oscar would be the hardest. A Tony, you just got to write a play. How hard is that? It is crazy though. It is crazy though.

What are your thoughts on the whole diversity and Oscars and all that stuff? I mean, you've been in Hollywood for a while. You've seen like this amazing rise and, you know, then the rise of the internet and all that stuff. Like, what's your thoughts on like where art is right now? Well look I mean it's a things always shifts and they shift back and right now you know I'm a 57 year old straight white guy who is one year away from having lifetime health coverage through the Writers Guild if I get one more job you have to have you have to have 17 years of coverage I've had

Starting point is 00:29:44 16 years I need one fucking job and then and then at the age of 60 I have health coverage for the rest of my life. But but I can't even I can't even get a fucking meeting. I mean it is a young diverse game right now and you know I had a good run. I wrote toxic masculinity right to the middle, and I didn't really have a plan B. So now I'm kind of hitting the road and doing podcasts. But you see, I mean, first of all, I really hope and pray you get that gig. That would be great for you and your family. Starting point is 00:30:32 I am so thankful that I was able to figure out the internet game. Because I mean, I'm functionally illiterate. I make no illusions of that. Yeah. I couldn't write a script to save my life. My, I'm porn acting bad. Oh my, my natural acting is overacting. Yeah, yeah, that's good. That's good. So I was never going to make it.

Starting point is 00:30:56 On top of that, I can't do coverage. I just, coverage drives me crazy. I would just, I would, the last time I did a gig was on thagagague, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, the last time I did a gig was on the Weather Channel and we were like running three hours behind and I walk out and the entire crews just on their phones. I'm like, why am I doing this? Why? I've gotten really comfortable with podcasting so I don't even want to do it. But do you think that all these changes are natural and do you think it's made it a better product? Well, I mean, if you take a giant step back, I mean, there was a time where, you know, there were no people of color and there was no women working in high-level jobs at all.

Starting point is 00:31:43 And- You call it the good old days. It was good old days. It was good old days, man. I used to walk into a room and be like, what do we got, guys? What are we doing today? I mean, I spent a lot of years in, I can name a handful of shows where it was all straight white men. So I'm not like one of those guys, it's like, oh, this is fucked up. I don't know that the solution is to take people, take diverse people and put them at high level jobs when they haven't been in the pipeline, when they didn't start out as a PA and then as a writer's assistant, and then, you know, because you're setting them up to fail sometimes. I don't know that, you know, rushing it is a great idea,

Starting point is 00:32:38 but at the same time, change has to happen. Yeah, I got you. And there's a lot of people that aren't in that situation and so there needs to be, you know, some recourse for that. It's equality versus equity, right?

Starting point is 00:33:15 Like, I mean, I don't know anybody that wouldn't be like, hey, we should have equal opportunity. I think everyone would say that. I think it would be ridiculous to sit there and go, oh no, we shouldn't have equal opportunity. I think everyone would say that. I think the problem is equity, and this gets into like, can we legislate equal results? And I think that's where we get into.

Starting point is 00:33:41 I think there's this thing in comedy, and it could be in writing too I could be wrong that that everybody's equally talented and that's why and the only reason they get certain place because they're connected or whatever it is and I can tell you that's completely wrong. I mean like I mean I remember watching some of these young comics coming up going oh that that guy's gonna beto be the future. Like, Taylor Thompson, great example. Like, she opened for me one time in San Diego, and I was like, oh, you're the future. I knew it right there. Like, there's just different talents and different energies and all that stuff.

Starting point is 00:34:14 And I think, but the, but it should be access to some point, right? Of course, yeah. I mean, I think it's, how do we get there? You know, we all want to get there. We want to get to a place where we can feel good about there being, you know, more diversity in all workplaces. The way it's happening right now, I don't think it's the best way. They've done research on a lot of diversity hires, and they all have like, kind of like this Ivy League background. Starting point is 00:35:46 Not saying that people born in certain races don't have like a lot of hurdles to go through, but that to me is like I think somebody walking in here, I don't know if the color your skin get you in Hollywood in, I mean, into an opportunity more than another one. I could be wrong. You've done more work in it, am I wrong? No, I'm just saying working backwards from the numbers. I mean, we can agree that there is a disparity between people of color and that there is a diversity issue. In ter- yeah, yes, growing up, yes. But they seem to want it to be now where every race is represented equally rather than in proportion to their representation of the population. Yeah, and that's, well who's they? You said they. Well, you know, exactly. I mean, the Jews. Yeah, the Jews, of course. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:36:51 But you, I mean, there's another one though. Here's a their black is starting to get really creepy. Did you notice that? Did you guys see their diversity guy, one of the categories of diversity they were seeking, oh I'm sorry one of the categories that they consider privileged in hiring is middle-aged. You're middle-aged that you're considered a person of privilege and in their hiring practices. So now I mean how is that anything but ageism? I don't understand that at all. Yeah I'm not a fan of ageism and that definitely exists in Hollywood. I think that it's crazy. Yeah it is and you know and thank

Starting point is 00:37:29 God we have Social Security and pensions but now you're seeing most jobs are not providing pensions any longer and so now you've got this world where there's ageism and there's also not a safety net for people as they get older. I just said I had dinner with five friends the other night and they're all straight white men in their 50s and these are guys that are literally the funniest most respected showrunners in Hollywood. They've run, I'm not going to name the shows, but like they're all the shows that you would be like, I mean, from S&L to to, you know, letterman and they, none of these guys these guys these guys these guys these guys these guys these guys these guys these guys these guys these guys these guys the guys the guys the guys the guys the guys the guys the guys the the the shows the shows and they none of these guys are working and you know it's it is unfair and I don't know how do you how you address it I don't know I totally get what you're saying like there there was that

Starting point is 00:38:18 I don't know if you can write the wrongs of the past by overreacting to that way and again that's that's that's why kind of I'm not into the wrongs of the past by overreacting to that way. And again, that's why I'm not into that. I mean, I don't have the skill set, but I just kind of want to control what I want to control. But when we see like the white, like, when you watch a commercial, and you're like, wow, are the best actors every time for this commercial, all black guy and a white woman racial couple, were they? th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, they, they, they, they, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, they they they they the best actors every time for this commercial? Or a black guy and a white woman, racial couple? Were they the best every single time on the commercial? That's, you start getting into, like, what is that about?

Starting point is 00:38:57 And like, again, if they are the best, they should get the commercial. I, I, maybe there's this naivety that I came into when I moved to Hollywood in 98, that th th this th this th this th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. I maybe there's this naivety that I came into when I moved to Hollywood in 98 that this was a meritocracy and that the best the best and you know that the talent rise to the top. Oh I see her saying yeah yeah I mean I think without a doubt I think there should be something that's more, uh, you know, instead of not being hired there can be more of a mentorship relationship where there is a pipeline of people that are being taught from the most experienced people and at the same time, try to make room for new voices, but at the same time, understanding that there's a reason why these guys have been working for 25 years is because they're talented and they have a work ethic and they're responsible and they have experience. I mean, I guess all jobs age out and you know, maybe I'm at the point now where I wish that wasn't the case, but, you know, I don't, I think there has to be more of a mentorship thing, unless

Starting point is 00:40:46 of just not being hired. Yeah, I just feel like, you know, I see this a lot in comedy in LA right now. I mean, like, again, this could be Sam go and get off my lawn, you know, but I've seen, you know, and I think this happens every 20 years. And I know that I was the recipient of the other side of this, where like the comedy sort gutted kind of the lineup and gave all these young guys spots. But what I see when I watch this, you know, is that it's almost become Lord of the Flies, man, where you have these young guys

Starting point is 00:41:22 learning from the older ones around them. I remember when Jimmy Schubert came back the time story pulled me aside. He's like, listen dude you're really funny but you got a shitty attitude. You got a really negative attitude. Jimmy Shubbert told you that? Yeah, and I took it to heart. I go, you know what? He's probably right. My father gave me like old crime boss advice and how to deal with people, you know, and I come from very paranoid people, so I like it was the worst way to deal with people in Hollywood. So I kind of, you know, slowly over time, like learned that like I got to let stuff go and don't take everything personal. But if Jimmy wasn't there to pull me aside and go, hey man, you know, I see what you're doing, it's super funny, but you're going about all the wrong way. I just see there's kind of this been this kind of gutting of like the older guard and bringing in new people.

Starting point is 00:42:18 Maybe that's just the way it is, but is that servicing these younger people? Is it servicing the next generation? Right. I just sort of assume that I had enough momentum

Starting point is 00:42:58 that things would keep moving forward. And they are. I'm writing on a project right now. I'm developing something. And I sold a show this past year. I'm still in the game. But as far as getting on staffs for shows, that's where it gets really tough. And, you know, I think it's tough. It's tough to be at 16 out of 17 years and be knocking my head against the wall a little bit, you know. There's a reason podcasts are so funny right now though it's because of all these, you know, all these great guys that can't find work elsewhere are taking their funny to the

Starting point is 00:43:30 podcasts and YouTube. Yeah. Starting point is 00:56:33 So, are you Catholic? I was raised Catholic. You're not Catholic. I still believe in God, but I'm not an idiot. So you're a spiritual man, not an organized religion man. Yeah, I would say that. What made you get out of that? I had a very strong connection to Catholicism.

And these principles are how the universe operates. And they took out all the woo-woo out of that

And I just, I think science takes away a lot of the, I'm not anti-science, but I think science takes a lot of the mysticism out of our our reality and our ability to manipulate energy and all that stuff. Starting point is 01:06:25 So, no, I believe it. And I hope for it. I don't think there's enough of it. I mean, we live a pretty static life. We live a very one-dimensional life. And I think that, you know, that, I think the secret to life is shaking it up and trying new things because you can maybe open up some new realities to yourself. I think the pandemic made me fall into some really, fucking, just petrified ways of looking at my life in the world.

Starting point is 01:06:57 And I've tried to do new things since the pandemic, and I'm trying to, I need more. I need to do more pushing of myself. I've taken some hero doses of mushrooms and I went camping by myself for three days in the Sierras, which I didn't know how to camp so that was a fucking roll of dice. Oh, how was there telling me? Because I don't know all the camp and I want to camp. Yeah, it's good. Just be careful because the Sierras get fucking cold at night. You know, it's like 70 during the day and then it goes down to like 32 at night.

Starting point is 01:07:30 Did you glamp? Did you glamp or camp camp? Like, no, I camped. I had a small tent. Yeah, I had a small tent. I had my little stove and some dried food food and did not bring I thought I had a sleeping bag that would keep me warm it wasn't even fucking close I just put on every piece of clothing I had and I had to keep moving and I didn't sleep much but I stayed out

Starting point is 01:07:56 there I did three days. Wow bad yeah that's great really want to do that dude you know my kids are super young you'd be a great guy to camp with because they did the chatter would not stop at the fire side side. and it it it the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire. Did you no no no. Now this was I meditated. I meditate twice a day. I've done that for like 12 years. So I did some extended meditations. And you can really feel high. If you if you're in the right place and you let yourself really go deep, like usually when I meditate, you know, in TM they talk about

Starting point is 01:08:51 if you hit a certain wavelength, even for 10 seconds during a 20 minute meditation, that's considered a great meditation. You don't have to stay there, but you just got to touch it. And I found that I was staying in it for extended periods of time. I think the world is way more interesting than everybody wants to believe. I think we're battling sorcerers. I think we're all magicians. And there's just things we could do that connect with the, you know,

Starting point is 01:09:21 with the nature, with God, with all that stuff. Starting point is 01:09:58 Because when you're on the road and you got nothing to do, it's real easy to be like, what are my friends at Pornhub up to? Yeah. It's a vibrational thing for me. It's just, I'm not judging anybody, but I just think it's low vibrational. So I'm trying to cut that out. I'm trying to get into like fasting too. I start that tomorrow my game back on the fast. I'm. just cutting out low vibrational shit, dude. Well yeah, I think it is amazing when you think about how much we avoid sobriety and I don't just mean with substances, with with porn, with work,

Starting point is 01:10:32 with relationships. There's so many ways that we try to run from ourselves and to find a way to, good for you man, stop stopping, you know, getting sober and stopping foreign like, how can you strip it away and what are we afraid of? Why is it that the human condition is that we need to get away from the baseline, just the raw essence of just being? We're so afraid of it. Or even just sitting and looking into, you know, your loved one's eyes. And just connecting for a long time and not saying anything and just trusting that that it's safe.

Starting point is 01:11:13 You know, we don't feel safe. You mentioned that when you were in the zone when you were meditating, do you think that has anything to do with like, I mean, it's a little bit in in the conspiracy zone but the Wi-Fi, the internet, the social media, like the vibes, you know how you said you were in the zone? Were you grounding? Were you barefoot? I wasn't barefoot. No, I was freezing my ass off. But no, but you mean, are all all those signals creating that zone? Yeah, right here. In a weird way do you think the signals the Wi-Fi because the Wi-Fi is working all day every day and if you were out there do you think that could help your meditation zone in a little better I know it's I never thought about that I thought it was I thought it was the opposite but maybe maybe it is I

Starting point is 01:11:56 mean every night I go to sleep and I listen to audio books and I have this eye mask that has ear buds in it th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the th th th the their their th their th. th. It's powerful. Yeah, Lizzo. Do you have hope for comedy? Do you think comedy is in a great place or a worst place? Well, it's funny because I talked to Bill Byrd today and I was talking about, I saw on Friday night, Dean Cook, it's online if you look at Dinkook's Instagram, he introduced Matt Rife as you know taking comedy to a new level. I have no thoughts on on Matt Rife. I really I love him. I don't know him. I don't know his comedy. But I did say to Bill I go that's that seems that seems a little grandiose, you know, and Bill goes, and Bill goes, now, you know what, Matt Rife is bringing new people into comedy.

Starting point is 01:21:39 new things about himself. And like, I think that is such an amazing thing when you get into your, you know, obviously 50s isn't that old. Unless you're 30 or 20 you think it's the oldest of old. But really you'll be amazed how like I look at my daughters are three years old. They're about to turn four. And I think about there will be a time where they're like, oh, I'm getting old. And I like it makes me sad because they have so much youth on their side right now. Like right now we, right now when you just said three, I was like that's times ten of me. That's a lot. That's a lot. Like, we just said that. that's a lot feel that. I feel like, I mean, I feel the past just right behind me at all times, just like on my shoulder. Do you feel that why Sam or is it kind of become distant

Starting point is 01:22:29 to your childhood? No, I think, you know, it's like, I think about being a kid all the time. I'm very conscious of that as I raise my children, I try to, you know, you want to make memories for them that they have these amazing experiences. Well, I've heard that parenthood is an opportunity to kind of do childhood again almost. Are you feeling that? Like, you can get to relive it? Yes, and I find that this is a double-edged sword. That parents always want to make sure

Starting point is 01:22:59 that their kids don't feel the trauma that they felt. And that could be really good because, you know, James Pauver, was his name James Pauver, he was the MMA fighter, he was like, he's like, I remember when my dad was beating me, I was thinking to myself, my son's never gonna feel this. So that's a great thing. But I also think we see a lot with these like super liberal white kids, I mean super liberal white parents that they can go above and beyond like writing the wrongs of their childhood

Starting point is 01:23:35 or the way we raise children forever and be too soft on their kids. It's that fine line because you want to love your children so much, but you also don't want to, you know, be a walkover. It's kind of crazy. It's so easy to spoil a kid, you know. They're so great though. I mean, I just, kids are the best. It's just the best.

Starting point is 01:23:56 I love my nephew, dude. I mean, that's my favorite thing about going home is hanging out with that kid man. He's so special to me. Yeah, they're amazing. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I love, I love it. But yeah, Greg Fitzsimmons, dude, you can tell he's a good soul, right? Like, you can just tell there's a good guy in there. You know, I mean, he's really want him to get that last project, so he get for the rest, for the rest, sad if he wasn't able to get it and it's like why wouldn't you like you know why wouldn't you have Greg Fitzsimmons right on your show? Starting point is 01:24:30 thing he was afraid to kind of just go in and say like I get it dude it's like you got to work like people people have no clue how hard it is to work to work in Los Angeles it is so hard because it only takes one red light of a bunch of red lights you got to get to get to work. Yeah explain what you mean by that because first you're going in for like casting and then okay they like casting or you're well even it starts even before that right it starts at like, you know somebody getting your head shot or they saw you in something, something like that.

Starting point is 01:25:06 Then you get to casting and then, I mean, how many layers are above that, Sam? Go through the layers. I mean, you got you go in, you got to get the agent, the agent sends you out there. The casting director just has to network, then you gotta do like, I forget what's called, but you basically got to do for a bunch of, um, like a table read or something. You know, you gotta do for a bunch of people who they think represents the audience, and like you have to see if you score well with them. Like a test, like a test, like a test audience. Test audience. I mean, it's so impossible. Well, and then you hear all the time too, like if somebody gets, they almost book it, and then like there's an actor that maybe is not feeling, you know, them or whatever and

Starting point is 01:25:52 then they lose, I mean, like you said, any red light even that late, it's over. So I get it.
