Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello? Hi, is that Laura? Oh, my God, Tony and Ryan. Oh, my God, Laura. How are you guys? We're well, Laura. How are you? I'm pretty good.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Are you happy to approve this podcast? Oh, 200%. Woo! 200%. Wow. Tony's giving me the look that says, Laura's hot. I know that look. I know we're not calling you California, but I'm getting California vibes.
Starting point is 00:00:31 Well, kind of close. Alberta, Canada. Oh, right next door. Yeah, just up the street. Yeah. Hi, this is Laura from Alberta, Canada, and I approve this podcast. Welcome to the Tony and Ryan podcast. Welcome.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Hi, thanks for listening. My name's Ryan John, vice captain of the ship here with Tony Lodge, our queen. And not only is Tony Lodge a queen, but you're about to hear why Tony Lodge is one of the best friends you can have. And if you think you're a great friend. Think again, dickhead. No, no, no. Oh, sorry. It's because she's so supportive. I'm really friendly.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Think about why it is and what you do that makes you a really great friend. And I'm going to compare how good a friend you are with how good a friend Tony Lodge is. Oh, I like this. It's not a competition. Only if I win. Well, it's not a competition. Sorry, no one wins here except for the friendships we make along the way. They win.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Yeah. No? I mean, people will decide what kind of friend Tony is when they hear what you did for me. Am I erring into Ryan John, the Gary Vee motivational speaker territory by saying... Bit of area there. Sorry. Yeah. No, no.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Hate to step on your toes, mate. Or Gary Vee's toes for that matter. But first, it's our first week officially exclusive with Spotify. Thanks to everyone who's listened that's allowed us to get to this stage. We really appreciate it. 100%. Thanks to the team at Spotify for having us over. So this week, things you can say using Spotify and also in the bedroom.
Starting point is 00:02:20 I can't believe after all this time we're finally exclusive. Sad news for your boyfriend and my wife. Oh, how good is that vibrato? Is that how you say it? Yeah, it is. And I always find it easier with the vibrato. Yeah, I mean, who doesn't? Imagine doing it without one.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Yeah. I love a good solo with a vibrato. Are you the conductor of an orchestra? I think we need more solo vibrato. I'm the conductor of my own orchestra, thank you very much. Can you believe this is free? No, I can't. It's hard to believe, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:03:09 Yeah, it's hard to believe. Hey, Tony. Hey, Ryan. Come round tonight. I'll put you on shuffle and give you a few repeats. Oh, that's the Spotify. I was like, what's going to happen here? This is amazing.
Starting point is 00:03:35 That to me, their new marketing campaign. Yeah, that's the Spotify. That's the Spotify. I'd say that's better than Spotify and my meal. Well, stay tuned. Okay, sorry. If you pay for premium, you can have anything you want with no interruptions. Look, I don't want any accidents, so we're going to Spotify wrap that thing up.
Starting point is 00:04:04 At the end of the year, Spotify give you a rapping. And at the end of tonight, Tony, I'm giving you a tapping. This looks like it'll be an absolute banger. It will be. Yeah. Hey, the cost per person goes down if we include your sisters. Because the family subscription. Yeah, the family plan.
Starting point is 00:04:38 Yeah. Yeah. Tony just slapped the microphone and it broke the table. Sorry. Didn't expect my sisters to come up today, that's all. Neither did I. Yeah. I think I might just play solo first.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Yeah. Yeah. Get it started. Yeah. Sometimes it's nice, isn't it? Yeah. Lube me up. That's not one.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Should I give you the old faithful or do you want to try something new? Daily discovery. Daily dick-scouvery. Are you using Spotify and My Meal? Because I've got something you can eat. Oh, shit. Thanks. Thanks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:27 For context, Spotify and My Mule was a marketing campaign that Spotify politely rejected, where if you were trying to think of something to have for dinner, that you would put your Spotify on shuffle and then say a Jason Derulo song came up, you would look at Jason Derulo's Instagram and for dinner you would have like the last thing that he, food that he posted about or.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Now the issue was that musical artists don't post about food that much. They don't post about food that much. You're like, oh, great, Foo Fighters, and there's just these pictures from concerts. And you're like, hmm, but what will I have for dinner though? Yeah, hot dog again. And that is one. Would you look at all these hot new singles that have come out to play?
Starting point is 00:06:11 Hottest in Australia. Oops, I think you might have left it on two times speed by accident. It was over pretty quickly. Yeah, sorry about that. Or is that just how it comes? Yeah. Sometimes that's just it. Four other podcasts, American podcasts, often I'll listen at 1.2 speed. Yeah, because they speak really slow. Really slow.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Yeah. And then our podcast came on and I didn't click and I was like. What are you, right in your own gear? Listening to your own podcast? What was the next one on? On the thing. And it came on. And I listened to make sure, like, to see how it sounds.
Starting point is 00:06:50 You don't trust me? Very rarely do I listen, but I listened to this one and I was like... What's wrong with us? How many coffees have we... Like, we need to slow the fuck down. Yeah, right. But it was literally just because it was... It was sped up on the app.
Starting point is 00:07:04 It was a trap for old players. Can we just skip this one and get straight to the good stuff? Yep. But, Tony, no foreplay required lodge in there, man. We just have to be a little bit careful because I think my boyfriend can see what we're doing because we're on a family plan. How many devices can we use at once? My limit does not exist, but I think it's four. Hey, Tony.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Hey. We really found a rhythm last night, didn't we? Bow, bow, bow, bow. Bow-tickle-wow-wow. This is if you're listening to something with a really intense guitar solo. Okay. Gosh, they're good with their hands. The finger work.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Yeah. Impeccable. This is for people who are new to Spotify listening to the podcast. Thank you so much for coming over. Thanks for listening. I only came because of Tony and Ryan. Wow. People be saying that around the world. Yeah. I like that.
Starting point is 00:08:18 You know what else I love? What? Our daily drive. Because you drive it into me daily. Yeah, we got it. Oh, okay. Just in case you didn't. The original line and the raising of the eyebrows was more than enough. Great.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Okay. Let me know next time. Oh. 70s vibe. You know that lady shut her salon, right? Yeah. You know, that lady shut her salon, Ryan. I mean, the great thing is, is that it's so easy to use and everything you like is kind of in the same spot.
Starting point is 00:08:55 At Christmas, the whole family... At Christmas, the whole family gathers around and claps and sings along. At Christmas, the whole family gathers around and claps and sings along. The whole family loves a good vibrato. You've got your money's worth this month. Sometimes I really like the quicker tempo, but sometimes I like it really low and slow and a bit dirty. I'm just trying to think of the exact artist you've described.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Do you want to cue something up? What are you in the mood for? You know what I'm in the mood for? Look, I'd be remiss to ask. We work together. So can this be free? Yes. Yes, it can.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Spotify had a different answer. Just an update on that, by the way. Oh. All the update is that... Spot-a-free? Spot-a-pay. Spotify is free. When we were negotiating with Spotify, there was some high level conversations
Starting point is 00:10:06 and we've mentioned before that Tony, of all the things flying around the room, was adamant that she was going to get free Spotify premium. Premium. Premium. After weeks of negotiating, we've now joined the app officially. We're in our new studio. They're helping us with some resources. Yes. I can confirm that Tony still does not have Spotify Premium. No. And she will continue to pay.
Starting point is 00:10:31 I'm paying like a pleb. Yep. Like everyone else. Yep. And happy to. It's a great product. Yeah, great product. Hi, this is Laura from Alberta, Canada,

Thank you so much for being part of our Patreon.
Starting point is 00:11:33 You fucking love to see it. Absolute legends. Now. Now, please, tell me how good a person I am. If you're being honest with yourself, do you think you're a great friend? Now this is a question for you, Tony Lodge, and you listening to the podcast. Do you think you're a good friend? And what is it that you do that makes you a good friend?
Starting point is 00:11:55 Is it being there in the tough times? Is it being supportive and encouraging to people around you? Do you think you're a good friend, Ryan? So obviously I'm thinking about it right now. Everybody listening is thinking about it right now. Do you think you're a good friend, Ryan? So obviously I'm thinking about it right now. Everybody listening is thinking about it right now. Do you think you're a good friend? At times because often I've been moving around for so long, I've missed a lot of birthdays, missed a lot of moments.
Starting point is 00:12:18 That's hard. And sometimes it's not like the birthdays and the weddings but it's like the small little bits in between is where you really like get to know someone. So I feel like bad that I like aren't there as much but I do feel like when if people ever ask me anything I like always happy to help always willing to do something and I love I've got a lot of friends jobs and I don't know why that I've got you jobs yeah I get like a sense of pride in being able to like help and yeah totally and I used to when we were younger used
Starting point is 00:12:42 to be the guy people like I want to get this job how do I what I put on my resume what I'm like oh I'd love to help yeah so I feel like that's my area of like service helping out gifts definitely is that am I pumping my own tires or does that feel about right definitely yeah I'm telling people what to do yeah but like I would say that your love language I mean obviously I don't know romantically if it's different but the way that you show me that you love me is, yeah, acts of service. You always do little things. You're always checking in. If I'm like, oh, I'm just like struggling with this thing,
Starting point is 00:13:12 you're like, let me take it off your plate or let me help you out or how can I do that for you? So I think that's accurate. Do you think you're a good friend, Tony Lodge? I think in the past I've been a really shitty friend. Why is that? I think just because I was, and this is not me trying to make excuses, but I think I just had like a lot of anxiety and I really struggled being
Starting point is 00:13:35 there for other people because I wasn't there for myself, you know? If you don't love yourself, how can others love you? Exactly, yeah. It's cliche, but there's a lot of truth there. But in the last probably three, four years, I've been making lots of very concerted effort with friends to make sure that I do catch up with them or message them at random times to check in with how they're going or if they say,
Starting point is 00:13:58 oh, I've got this big thing coming up at work, I make sure that I, like, remember to check in with them and stuff. But same with you, I've moved around a lot. So we've missed lots of big moments. But I think that at the moment, yes. Let me share with the people in the TARPA community what a great friend Tony Lodge is to me. Is this one of those anti things where you're like,
Starting point is 00:14:18 she's such a great friend. She borrowed my car and put no fuel in it or something like that. First of all, I don't own a car. Second of all, I've borrowed your car and have put no fuel in it or something like that? First of all, I don't own a car. Second of all, I've borrowed your car and have not put fuel in it. So I feel like there's a few deep-seated little issues there. Tony's at my house the other day and she leans in. I wouldn't say a whisper, but it was a very low sort of, hey, Ryan. Tony leans into me and says, I'm going to get you laid.
Starting point is 00:14:46 You said that, didn't you? I did say that. Yeah, verbatim. I'm going to get you laid. And I thought not only is Tony a great friend, but apparently now a wingman. I try. A wingwoman.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Wing person. Wing person. So Bridget has a few cookbooks. My wife has a few cookbooks in the kitchen. And they're like up on a bench, on a shelf. On a shelf. Yeah. And Tony goes, oh, the lady who wrote that book.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Julia Ostro. Julia Ostro has just brought out a new one. And for people in that world, Julia, like beautiful, Jeff. Honestly, if you don't follow her on Instagram, you need to. Like she's fucking awesome. She's got three cookbooks now. So she's just brought out a new one and Tony, you say, oh, she's just got out this new one.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Bridget obviously likes the old one. I'll order you the new one and say it's from you and Bridget will love you for it because it's this beautiful book. I've just ordered one for myself and one for Jane. I'll make it three. I'll give Bridget one and you can just like, she'll think's this beautiful book. I've just ordered one for myself and one for Jane. I'll make it three. I'll give Bridge one and you can just like think what a beautiful gift. Yeah. And how thoughtful that you would see that and go, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:15:52 And I was like, Tony, great idea. Maybe I will get laid. So I ordered it. So Tony orders it. And paid for it. And paid for it. Yesterday I'm chatting to you on the phone. Yep.
Starting point is 00:16:05 And it's actually an interesting time to have you on the phone on loudspeaker because, oh, there's a knock at the door. Yeah. Who is it? I'm like, oh, maybe it's the book. Yeah. And it was. And I was like, oh, Tony's like set this up.
Starting point is 00:16:19 She can hear how this plays out in real time. Yep. I hadn't, by the way. Yeah. I walk in to Bridget and I was like, hey, something's right. And she's like, what is it? I haven't ordered anything. And I was like, oh, someone has got you a present.
Starting point is 00:16:35 And then I pull the book out of the Booktopia box and she sees it. And not only is like it's a great recipe, it's like the touch of the book. It's a lovely book. The photography. It's just a beautiful, even if you never, like, you know, like you know like coffee table book even if it's sat there and you never used it it's just a beautiful thing to have in the house it is really nice yeah and Bridget's like oh Ryan you shouldn't have what a great idea and she started giving me like oh I love you so much what a thankful gift and I was like fuck maybe fuck, maybe Tony was right. Tony whispered, I'm going to get you laid.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Yeah. And here I am in the good books. Yep. Literally, the good cookbooks. Yeah, I'm in the good cookbooks. And just as Bridge kind of starts giving me this beautiful like, oh, thank you, Ryan, Tony, who's on loudspeaker, goes, I bought it.
Starting point is 00:17:19 I paid for it. It was me. It wasn't him. He's an asshole. I bought it for you, Bridge. It was all me. No wasn't him. He's an arsehole. I bought it for you, Bridge. It was all me. No, that's not what happened. Bridget was like, you do.
Starting point is 00:17:31 No, she was very loving. And then you, supposed wingman. Yeah. I'm a good friend. Yells. And then Bridge goes, oh, I thought Ryan must have got it. And then Tony, do you think Ryan would ever actually do something nice for you? I'm a way better friend to you, Bridget, than Ryan is.
Starting point is 00:17:53 The book's from me. I hope you enjoy it. We all know Ryan would never do this for you. Actually. I'm not saying you're wrong. And then she said, you're right. So, I mean, I think you're so on your own seed there. I've never said that before.
Starting point is 00:18:08 I'm not disagreeing with anything that's been said in terms of accuracy. What my beef is, is that you were like, let me be the wingman. Let me be a good friend. I'm going to do this good deed and I'll let you take the credit for this one. Yeah. And how did that go? Were you able to let your friend shine? No.
Starting point is 00:18:29 The thing is, is that I'm a very excitable gift giver. Yeah. Like I'm the kind of gift giver that like if it's arrived, I want to give it to you two weeks early. Yep. Like I don't care. I just really want to see the look on your face. Like I get so much joy out of sending people gifts.
Starting point is 00:18:43 Like my very good friend Sam, his girlfriend has just moved to Melbourne, so they've been doing long distance for a while. She just started this big fancy job at ANZ. Oh, well done. Right? And so I sent her flowers to congratulate her on this new job. And she was so happy. How nice is it when you make people feel good?
Starting point is 00:19:00 Well, I felt that feeling. Okay, well, then you come up with your own fucking present and you fucking send it to her, okay? Okay, this is a- If you want the fucking present, um, uh... Yeah, yeah, yeah. Buy it yourself? Is that what you're trying to say? If you want the present, um,
Starting point is 00:19:16 oh my god. What's happened to you? Previous Tony, who was a good friend and could remember stuff. If you want the kudos, I've never said kudos before, but it's the only word I can think of. If you want the kudos, you buy the gift. Maybe we could set something else up for you. No, you've done enough.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Oh. Because I actually would suggest it had the reverse effect because she loved the book, but she was so pro-Tony and so anti-Ryan in the house yesterday. It was unbearable. I was like, what is this? The TARPA Facebook group? I love Tony.
Starting point is 00:19:53 Pretty indifferent about Ryan. He's there. He's there. He's there. Fire scout for the ship. Happy to be there. That's fine. I'm just happy to be here.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Butter's okay. Ladies and gentlemen, Tony Lodge. Wing person. Maybe not a great friend. Thank you, though. That's all right. I'm glad she liked it. Yeah, she did.
Starting point is 00:20:15 What have you loved to see this week? I've got a bit of a left of field recommendation. Ooh. You're going to hate this. You're going to hate it. I'm hoping that people that are listening might like it. Last week, I watched a documentary on Netflix, which is a little bit different for me.
Starting point is 00:20:34 You're not a doco girl, traditionally? Oh, I like true crime docos and stuff, and I watch a lot of food stuff. So docos like that kind of. Yeah, gotcha. But I watched the new documentary that's out on Netflix about Shania Twain. Really? Yeah. Is it good? It's excellent.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Really? It's really good. So, I really like Shania Twain. My mum was a massive Shania Twain, because whose mum wasn't. Oh. And my mum's favourite fact to say was like, oh, did you know that her name's actually Eileen Shania Twain, but she goes by Shania Twain. I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:21:06 That's a great fact. It's a great fact. Where was your mum when we were pitching Good Fact Friday? Dead. Dead. She was. She still is. Rest in peace.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Anyway. To the fact segment. Who's your mum? What's that? I'm sorry? Who were you saying you liked, Shania Twain? No, so I love Shania Twain and I was like, I'm going to just pop this on.
Starting point is 00:21:27 I had like, Torbs was still working. I was like, oh, I'll just wind down a bit. It's actually amazing and the things that she's overcome is just phenomenal. Really? Yeah. Who knew the inspiring backstory of Shania Twain? It's actually incredible.
Starting point is 00:21:42 So she like... You meant to cry? No, it's really good though. You're emotional about Shania Twain. Yeah, it's really So she like. You've had to cry? No. You're emotional about Shania Twain. Yeah, it's really good. But so she fell in love with her music producer. They were working together. They got married.
Starting point is 00:21:51 And he ended up running off with her best friend, with Shania Twain's best friend. So they were married for years. And they were making all their music together. Oh, my God. And then he fucked up. And then she got bitten by a tick, Shania Twain, and she got Lyme's disease.
Starting point is 00:22:04 Oh, my God. Yeah, so fucked up. And then she got bitten by a tick, Shania Twain, and she got Lyme's disease. Oh, my God. Yeah, so she, like, couldn't talk for a long time. She, like, lost her voice. And she's a singer. The voice of an angel. Yeah. A country angel. And now her voice is, like, really different.
Starting point is 00:22:17 And so she was like, I was really ashamed for a long time and I went to a really dark place. It's fucking a really, really good documentary. You hooked me. And you might remember that the very first episode of this podcast, you recommended a T-Pain documentary, which I still haven't watched. This is pop. And it was a T-Pain episode.
Starting point is 00:22:36 But anyway, should I make you a deal? If I watch the... It is the year anniversary of our first episode. Very soon. Yep. So a year after I recommended This Is Pop, could you bring yourself around to watching it? Does that mean that you won't watch the Shania Twain one for a year? No, no.
Starting point is 00:22:53 How long is the Shania Twain? Like an hour and a half. Oh, so it's not like a seven episode? No, no, no. Okay, yeah, no, I can do that. Yeah. And the T-Pain episode's like 30 minutes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:03 All right, mate. Yep. Deal. I've changed my love to see it. What is it? Because I'm all about Shania Twain. It's really good. So you know that don't impress me much.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Yeah. One of the great all-time classics. Yep. So one of the little throwaway lines is like, you think you're Brad Pitt? Yeah. You think you're cool because you drive a fast car. That's not fun. What are the three things?
Starting point is 00:23:23 You're a rocket scientist. You're a rocket scientist. Oh. You think you're Brad Pitt? I think the other one was a fast car. That's not fun. What were the three things? You're a rocket scientist. You're a rocket scientist. Oh. You think you're Brad Pitt. I think the other one was a fast car. You got a cool car or something. That is one of the parts, but... Okay, so then there's this meme, right? Yeah. And Brad Pitt was in this movie called Astra or something.
Starting point is 00:23:38 Yeah. And he is Brad Pitt. In the movie, he drives a fast car and he's a rocket scientist. And everyone was like, if they haven't made this movie for Shania Twain, what else can I do? Oh, maybe it was for when she was going through her divorce. They're like, she's having a tough time.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Let's make her something nice. Let's wheel out Brad Pitt. He can do this kind of a strange movie, but it was beautifully shot. And I love to see that. I love to see that. All right. Well, that's the last time I'll allow for you to glom onto my
Starting point is 00:24:05 You Love To See It, but for a good cause. Shania Twain. Well, that's the last time I'll allow you to jump on my wife. What? Well, no, that didn't come out right. What? Mate, you could have jumped on her if you thought about fucking buying her a gift.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Well, you did and you get to do the jumping. What's happened in this episode? We need to go. Let's go home. Let's get out of here. See you to meows-o maybe. Love you, bye. That don't impress me, my meows. Ouch.
