This is a headgum podcast.
This is Emily, Henley, and Sammy.
And you're listening to Too Scary Didn't Watch.
Hi, everyone.
Welcome to Too Scary Didn't Watch,
the horror movie recap podcast for those Too Scared to Watch for themselves.
I'm Emily and I am too scared to watch scary movies.
I'm Henley and I'm also too scared to watch scary movies.
I'm Sammy and I love watching scary movies.
And so I watch them so that you don't have to.
And Hell Chella 3 triples as best.
We are on week five.
Wow, the midpoint.
A nine week series where each of the three of us recaps three movies each.
So we are, yeah, past the halfway point technically.
Well, I guess halfway through this episode will be.
It will be the exact halfway.
Oh, no.
That's true.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
No.
Sorry.
That's hard.
That's hard math.
You've got to admit.
That's really confusing.
Because there's still four and a half.
Right now there's five left.
Halfway through this, it'll be four and a half left.
After this, there'll be four left.
Feef.
Wow.
All of these episodes will also be available as video episodes available on our Patreon.
I keep forgetting to mention that.
Sorry.
Sorry.
And we will have merch coming soon, merch that we are very excited about.
I know.
Sorry it's taking so long, but it's because we're really trying to make it good.
Make it good.
I suppose to all of our other merch, which has been shit.
Now, we're just trying to do something a little different this year.
So we're taking, it's just, we're just, it's going to happen.
It's going to happen.
I'm very excited.
I am drinking a sparkling water, so there's going to be some burps.
There's going to be some burps.
I'm realizing.
Just now, just now, it's just what the body does and there's nothing any of us can do about it.
That's right.
It's a mystery.
Having a body, we talk about it a lot.
It's tough.
And maybe.
talk about it some more. You can jump straight to the recap using timestamps in the show notes
because first I would like to know if anything scary happened to either of my dear, dear friends
this week. You guys. Uh-oh. It's fine. I'm just, I feel so crazy. It's the lunar eclipse and
Pysius. That has to be what it is. Have any to do that? No, what it really is. Okay, what it really, I mean,
all these things. I think it's a bachelor party. I think it's a lunar eclipse. I think
all these things.
But, okay.
El Niño.
El Niño.
You're the fireworks?
So I am currently,
my kind of,
my specific kind of mania
is home decorating
mania.
Yeah.
Yeah, I have a very specific,
like,
aesthetics matter to me so much
and the vision matters to me so much.
And I've really become,
fixated in a way, you know, I feel spiritually not unlike how I felt during the don't worry
darling stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, I'm locked into something in a way that feels outside
of my control and I don't feel good without my permission. But I also like it's, I, I actually
been capable of stopping it. And it's like the submersible. You're trapped in the submersible. It is,
it's exactly like the submersible. And I feel like, I mean, I'm, listen to how it's big
right now. Like, I feel like completely manic. Like, I, like, cannot stop. I can't get a grip. I can't
sleep in. I wake up first thing in the morning. I'm like spiraling through the things. I need to be
purchased. The thing, like, you know, this morning at 7 a.m. I booked a couch cleaner. You know,
just like a normal thing to do. I didn't know that that was a thing. Yeah, they'll come to your house.
One's coming to mine on Friday. And I purchased a table. I finally figured out what to do with the
nook. There's a nook. And we finally figured out what to do with a no.
And we got a little, a really, an absolutely charming mid-century little round, like, bistro table and chairs, like a little dining nook.
I'm so excited.
Great.
We're also, we're having a few friends over next Sunday for, like, a little mini housewarming situation.
So I'm also, like, very frenzied about it.
It has to be, like, 100% perfect before anybody steps foot in our house, even though it fucking whatever.
And so we ordered this table.
It's great.
It arrives.
I unbox.
I get ready to put it together.
it's missing a part. It's missing one part. I feel like this always happens to you.
It's not anywhere. It's not. There's nowhere else it could be. I contact wayfair fucking
wayfarer. They're like we'll send you a whole new table. Send that one back. Actually, they're like,
we'll send you just the part. Thank God. I was like, great. They're like, it'll be there in 10 days.
I'm saying, excuse me, this is 2026. Like I don't wait 10 days for things, but fine. It is what it is.
I ordered it well enough in advance. Fine. Fine. Guys, the 10.
days was yesterday. As of three days ago, my UPS tracking has stopped. Oh my God. This always
happens to you too. Yes, it does. Where is it? Where's the part? There's no tracking available.
Last it was checked in was somewhere in Illinois. Is it coming? Is it ever coming? Am I going to be
left with parts of a table and no other part to make the table work? Also, side note, I ordered
some tears to go at this table. The image online. The cushions are like a cream. It comes. They're gray.
I look at the reviews.
Some of the reviews, if you look deep down,
are like, by the way, they're gray, not cream, like the picture.
And so I'm like, well, that's, I don't want that.
I don't want those chairs.
I don't care.
They can't be gray.
Guys, I also got a light fixture, but it's a pendant light fixture.
I can't put the pendant light fixture up until I get the table because I won't
know the placement of the light fixture until I have the table.
And I don't know if I'll ever have the table.
So at this point, do I buy another table and potentially end up with two tables?
And I have to send one table back.
do I, I've looked into,
because you know how everything's like the same.
Like everything that you buy online is like exactly the same.
I found what seems to be like the exact same table,
but maybe just like slightly different that I'm like,
can I order this table?
And then it will have the part I need to put my original table together.
But then what do I do with the other parts of the table I don't want?
I can't stop thinking about it.
I can't.
Because all the dominoes are falling.
One piece isn't fitting.
So everything is falling apart.
And I have people coming over.
My friends are going to hate me if they come over and I don't have a table.
Yeah, your friends are definitely going to hate you.
I just feel like really crazy.
And I don't like that this is how I feel.
And I don't like that this is how it's making me feel.
I've had this feeling as well.
It's, yeah, a type of thing that you feel like can only be solved by continuing to purchase more and more and more and more.
Yes.
I constantly have like 1,800 tabs open on my computer.
Like I'm like, remember when I bought the same two.
I'm a little bit in this phase right now with makeup because I'm doing my own wedding makeup.
Wedding stuff will really do this to you too.
I yesterday went to Target, bought two mascaras today.
A box arrived from Sephora.
Three mascara's in there.
And yes, what how many versions of the same bandings?
Did you buy one time?
Three.
Probably.
Two. Oh, yes.
Three.
three, but that was partially shipping errors because one didn't arrive and so I bought it again
and then the other one arrived and then like a third one came.
And then somehow there was two.
I can't remember.
But I'm very familiar with this particular type of mania where you're like, well, I just have to buy more.
I have to buy more.
And that's the only way.
Well, I'm single-handedly ruining the environment by ordering two tables and getting a third
part of the table ship that it's like because I just need my table now because what
if I don't know.
But I'm like, but I actually do need my table.
Like I live in my house and need my table.
And I just, like, I was like today, I was like, maybe there's like, maybe like a hardware store has like a thing you can buy to like put a table together using the parts I already have. And then I was like, I don't know if that's a thing. Can you 3D print the part? That would be the perfect solution. You should buy 3D printer. I think Emily should buy a 3D printer. I'm like, I think you should buy a 3D printer? I'm like, I think you should own one? I think you would use it a lot. Today, Joel and I were trying to do, we were trying to do another task. And I was like, well, what we need is a staple gun. And he was like, well, should we ask any if anybody we know how the staple gun? I'm like, nobody know we know how to. We know how it has.
staple gun. I'm just going to buy a staple gun. He's like, we don't need to, you're going to buy a
staple gun to put like two staples in for this one thing. And it was really, we're like,
I just, that could be a useful weapon. So, you know, it has multi-purpose. I don't think we're going to be
upset that we have a staple gun. But he's like, why would you jump to right away being like,
we have to buy a staple gun? I'm like, because that's where I'm at. Yeah. Yeah.
You're an independent woman. You need your own staple gun. This is that this was, this
going to happen. This was inevitable. This was going to happen. The train was on the track. It does pass. I was in
it. I mean, you know, like this specific. This version of it. It'll be back in another form, obviously.
But the new house decorating mania will pass eventually. And all your friends will still love you very much,
regardless of the table situation. But I'm really praying that that that piece arrives first thing tomorrow morning.
my God. Yeah, maybe it will. But I'm also like, yeah, I've been burned. I've been burned before by UPS, you know? And I know they, I know they got a lot, they got a lot on and they did come through for me eventually. But I am like, where's my piece? Where's my piece? You know? Where is it? Where is it?
Tomorrow. I hope it arrives tomorrow. I hope it just lands on your doorstep. But will I have by then already purchased like three more tables? Probably. This is reminding me of entirely possible. I have been tracking a drama online of, which it kind of reminds me.
me of maybe Sammy when you bought that couch that you hated. But have you guys heard of the brand
Love SAC? No. SAC. There's actually one like across the street from me in Greenwich, Connecticut. So I see it
all the time. And he made a video. He's a comedian and he made a video about how he bought like a
$10,000 couch and arrived in like a thousand boxes. Like basically it just came in like a gazillion
different boxes. And he made this video being like, holy shit, I just spent so much money on this
couch. Now you're telling me I have to assemble it myself. So the video blows up, goes viral.
The CEO of Lovezac like emails him personally and is like, would love to like sit down and have a chat
with you. Like, and chat with you. Why don't I want to have a chat with you? My fucking couch.
And so and the Love Sacks is not handling it well. He's like, but also like, sure, I guess I'll talk to this guy.
That night before he's supposed to talk to the CEO, Love Sack, social media posts a video of a girl like
making fun of him being like, I'm like a little like pussy bitch who like can't like,
can't like put my couch together.
Like point of view like you like are so weak.
You're such a weak man.
You can't put your couch together.
So that's the direction that loves that.
They post that right before he met with the CEO.
That is so funny.
All right.
I'm invested.
Also this guy's a comedian.
Like it's like, don't fuck with a guy who's like, I don't know who he is.
I haven't followed him.
He does have a following on TikTok.
Like he makes his career off of shit like that.
Googling this so fucking fast. Love sack video guy. Yeah, love sack video guy. And obviously people in the
comments are not going to be on Love Sack side. They're coming for them. They're not going to be
rushing to buy some Love Sack Couches. They're reading Love Sack to Filth in the comments. They're like,
are you fucking kidding? I'm with this shit. This is a terrible stance. Anyway, so I don't know what's
going to happen. I kind of have I'm intrigued. I'm interested. Oh yeah. Yep, that's the guy.
LoveSack CEO offers gardening gloves as compensation and a, and a job for soft hands for this guy.
Are these Republicans?
They must be.
I mean, they do have a brick and mortar in Greenwich, Connecticut, so.
Oh, my God.
Wait, can you meet up with me so that I can humiliate you publicly or attempt to?
Is that what happened in their meeting?
I don't know.
I don't know.
This is going to be terrible.
People were posting videos of their stock.
like going down in real time.
Like no one thinks,
no one thinks this is going well for them.
For soft hands.
Oh my God.
This is such interesting marketing strategies.
Love Sox said they'd send him a new pair of size, small, floral plant gardening gloves.
What the fuck?
Wow.
The balls on this love sack.
Yeah, the sack, the ball sack.
The ball sack in this love sack group.
Wow. Okay. Now I'm deeply invested.
Maybe this is going to cure my...
I'm just going to focus on this.
Pay attention.
This could be you.
Well, the other thing that will distract you, Emily, is that I just won't go into detail
because we're going to do...
We'll do like a bonus episode about it.
But I want to give a little teaser that I did have the privilege, the honor and the
privilege of getting to go see here in normal activity on Broadway.
Oh, my God.
She's so brave, you guys.
She is so...
Oh, brave.
I really wasn't thinking much about it.
I was like, whatever, I can do this.
It's a play.
Plays can be scary.
But then I sat down in my seat and I remembered.
I remembered.
I was like, oh, shit.
I had this moment of terror seized my heart.
It was incredible.
I fucking loved it.
Highly recommend if anyone is in the area wants to go see paranormal activity on Broadway.
I think that the, I'm a little confused.
I think that it officially doesn't premiere until like September 15th or something.
But it was packed. I mean, the theater was packed. There was not an open seat. Everyone loved it. Like, I don't get to experience a lot of horror movies in the theater. So I don't know how to compare it to that. But the audience's reactions were insane. Like, they added so much to the experience because we're all experiencing it in real time and it's real people and real, like, effects. It feels like somewhere between a horror movie experience and like a haunted house.
Yes, except they didn't do any audience interactive stuff.
I was a little worried they were going to do that.
That was just pure.
They didn't break the fourth wall.
That didn't happen.
Great.
Some of the like tricks, though, really got me.
Like, were really impressive, the shit that they pulled.
And I'm excited to talk about it.
I'm so fascinated.
Yeah, I can't wait to hear because it, I mean, it is like so many effective scares are about, like,
bringing your attention to one zone while something happens over here.
And it's like, yeah, great.
like blocking can do that on state.
Like it's like it's not very dissimilar from framing in a film, but that's so cool.
And it's really smart, really intelligently done.
And also there would be things that would be happening that I wasn't noticing, but the whole
audience, like a portion of the audience would be like, and then you'd be like a little pre-gas.
You're like, that's so fun.
And also another reason why it was so good, I as a scaredy cat had a great time.
I think anyone can go.
Like I think that that's another thing is that it wasn't too scary.
Like it was there's a shit ton of jump scares and it's fucking loud. So be prepared for that. Like that was my main thing is that I was with my friend Leo and I kept turning to him and being like, I'm actually going to have a heart attack. Like if there's one more jump scare, I'm going to have a full blown heart attack. But it was fun. It wasn't like too much. Yeah. And then another thing is the actors were so good. Actors were so good. They had such good chemistry. They're just like wonderful on stage. And it was funny. Like we were there was like a laugh line. Like
every 10 minutes. Like you were also laughing a lot, which I think is obviously really important.
Was it like a original story or was it familiar from the movie? I mean, it was definitely not like
the first one. Like the concept is that it's a couple that was in Chicago and they moved to London
for his job. And she's like, I think it's a brand new plot. A new story. Yes. Yeah. Okay. Brand new story.
And it's just really well done. It's out now. It's out now. It's.
It's, it's...
Like, you can get tickets.
You can get tickets.
But I was confused because it's...
Or it opened on the 25th.
So you still saw it, I think, in previews, hen.
But now it's open.
Okay.
Oh, wait, no.
No, I saw it only like two days ago.
Oh, well, then it's open, yeah.
Yeah, I was also really thrilled to see that, like, it's...
It was packed.
Like, there was not an empty seat.
Yeah, that's fun.
And, yeah, I had a great time.
How big is the theater?
Pretty big.
I think it's the August Wilson Theater.
I mean, it's one of the, like, main theaters on Broadway.
A couple hundred?
Let's see.
10,000.
Wilson.
Oh my God.
I want to go.
I know.
I want to go to.
It says 1,200 seats.
Damn.
It's a lot.
Basically the same as Dodger Stadium.
Basically the same as every room I've ever been in.
Anyway, so I was thrilled.
I think it's about the same as my house.
We'll do a full episode about it where I will talk through all the specifics.
Okay.
Well, I mean, I hope this showed as well because as of right now, it is still saying that they
have tickets like through like shows through the end of the year and oh my god yes oh my god we
go to go to new york at the end of the year and maybe some friends could go see it yes yes yes yes
from what i can tell people are enjoying it spooky while it's chilly out oh my god now that's
scary that is fun so proud of you handling you're so brave so brave thank you thank you i'm always
looking for good loungeware. I work from home a lot. I don't need to be putting on jeans in my own house.
No, thank you. But I also don't want to be wearing pajamas, looking like a little house goblin feeling
bad about myself. So I look for loungeware that's cute and flattering enough that if I have to

Sammy?
Sammy, other than the five mascara
Anything scary happened to you this week?
It's pretty scary.
Well, speaking of watching things, I guess.
Duncan is out of town on his bachelor party
and I'm still recovering from my bachelorette party.
So I was like, this weekend, we're going to be watching some TV.
Excellent.
I watched 10 backers.
to back episodes of the pit.
Holy.
Wow.
What a space.
Oh, those are basically hour longs.
I spent all day.
During the day yesterday?
Yeah, yesterday.
And I did watch some on Friday as well.
Essentially all your waking hours were spent back to back watching the days.
And I had a little bit of the mania, I guess, where it's like, well, I can't stop.
Like, I have to do this.
I have to finish now.
I have to keep going.
And the pit is really intense.
Yeah, that's an intense headspace to be in.
I haven't seen the second season.
I want to.
You watched first season?
Oh, Henley, I was going to say you shouldn't watch it because kids die in it.
Oh, no, I know.
I watched it.
Oh, yeah, no, kids die in horrible ways.
I don't know why I watched it, but I did.
And I definitely fast forward through some of it.
I won't watch it because medical stuff is not.
A lot of people draw the line at medical stuff.
And I totally see why because I was like sobbing in it, which you know, I love.
It's just too real.
Because it is literally real.
It feels so different from when someone dies in a horror movie.
You're like, even if you're emotionally connected to the character, there's just something different when they're dying of like a heart attack.
A thing you might die of.
And people are like.
The thing you love might die of have died from.
Yes.
No, it's really awful.
And again, bodies.
I don't want to know about limbs.
There's a lot of limbs.
Yeah, I don't want to know.
And I don't want to like see the ways that they all, that it can go bad with a body.
Oh, my God.
It's so intense.
And you know, it's like I was a nursing major when I started college.
And there's a line in the show that one of the doctors is like, why do we do this?
And he was like, because we all have ADHD and nothing else would like keep us interested.
And I was like, I wonder if that's why I was like so fascinated.
I like really could see another world where I'm an ER nurse.
You'd be great at it.
Yeah.
And I think it is part of the like adrenaline of it is just like.
feel so good to me.
I'm just like, I need it.
You would actually be such a good ER nurse.
I'm having like a moment where I'm realizing Sammy would be so good because I really think
that you like wouldn't lose your cool and you would be like very even keeled and you'd be like
known nonsense.
Like it's like you'd have the combo of being like so good at your.
You'd be so good at every aspect of your job.
Hey, stop everything you're doing and go be an ER nurse.
Yeah.
Just go do that.
The easiest job in the world.
Yeah.
That's the other thing is you see.
COVID's over.
Henley.
It's easy.
now. You need a break. Sammy, you need a break. Go be an ER nurse. You just need a break.
Well, first go to nursing school and then go be an ER nurse. Take a break. Take a break.
Correct order. But yeah, that's the other side of it is you just see. I have heard it's like a very
realistic depiction of what ERs are like. I've heard that. I don't know from where I've done none of my
own research. But it does like show a lot of the workplace dysfunction in hospitals as well where you're just
Not that any of us think it's running smoothly in there, but.
It's like the system is so broken.
Yeah, it really makes you like feel for emergency room personnel that like it can be such a thankless job as well as being like the most.
The highest stakes imaginable.
Yeah, I'm loving it.
I'm really enjoying it.
But I'm just crying and crying and crying, which again feels really good to me.
You love to do.
Yeah.
Yeah, maybe I need to cry.
I need the, like, I need the, my threshold for crying is like getting higher and higher.
So I need to see the most upsetting things that exist.
And then I'm like, ah.
You do a nightingale rewatch every five years.
God, yeah.
I forgot about that.
Oh, my God.
And you're like, no one talked to me for 48 hours.
I'm watching the nightingale again.
I'm testing my crying threshold.
It's good.
That's what they said.
You got to shake the monkey.
What is it?
Shake the monkey.
You got to shake the monkey.
Shock the monkey as Peter Gabriel says.
I've been like thinking about this more because I'm like,
I feel like I'm not good at that of like something upsets me.
I feel like I like don't do anything to like kind of like release it.
And that's, it's called shaking the monkey.
It might not be shaking the monkey.
It might be another animal.
But it's like you like do something like you dance or you run or you.
Are you, no.
Is it like a reference to how rabbits shake when they, after they've been like hunted?
It's like a som.
Yeah, kind of.
It's like a somatic release.
Let's like releasing.
Like even if it's like something just upset you that you heard about.
You got to shake the monkey.
That's definitely the term.
Somehow I don't think that's what it is.
Wait, I'm going to Google.
Maybe it is.
I mean, I've certainly never heard it before.
Shake.
But there's all sorts of things that haven't heard.
The monkey is going to come up with some fun things.
I was going to say, I'm like, let's get.
let's Google it. Well, yeah, I'm getting pretty good at shaking the monkey with the pit, I think,
is the takeaway here. If anybody needs a good cry and it doesn't come easy for them,
try the pit. Yeah, Joel really loves the pit and we've talked about maybe watching, like,
maybe I'll watch ER because I think it's probably like a lower intensity.
Yeah. I'm a bit. I never watched ER, but I'd be curious. But I don't think that's it.
You don't think that's it?
Wait, no, no, now it says...
Wait, you don't think that's it?
This says shake that monkey means the act of a female shaking her pussy while it's insane.
Why isn't that...
The act of a female shaking her pussy.
Somehow the terminology strung throughout that sentence is all over the map.
Female, the use of female and pussy feels really crazy to me.
It just really sucks that I had to say that and people are.
They're going to.
And you had to.
Shaking her pussy.
Is that what she's all dancing?
You know, sometimes you just got to shake the monkey.
And we all know what we mean by that.
I'm going to be such an embarrassing mom when they're older.
I'm going to say shit like that.
And it's going to be horrible.
My thing is fun.
Okay.
There's monkeys in this movie or are they apes?
Your background is really upsetting
For anyone who's not watching the video episode
They have tails
They're baboons
They have tails
They're monkeys
Great
Oh hmm
Baboons are baboons apes
I know we're right back very sorry
There's a time of my life
Where I thought the difference between monkeys and apes
Was tails
But now I'm not so sure
That seems a little too simplicity
Baboons are monkeys
And is it tails
What's the difference between monkeys and apes
Tails
Oh, fuck, yeah, she knew.
Nice.
Because there was a time of my life, I feel like I've talked about this already, where I wanted to be a primatologist.
Are we going to just talk about our childhood hosting things right now?
Henley, what are you going to be when I become an ER nurse and Emily becomes a primatologist?
I don't, what do you do?
Why is a babu not an ape?
I wanted to own and operate a small grocery store.
Oh, you told me that.
You would actually be so good at that too.
Which is what Silas recently said out of the blue.
Wow.
And so I think that's called epigenetics.
That's called epigenetics is when, you know, your hopes and dreams are passed down to your children.
So we have fucking common.
You know, like fancy, fancy little like L.A. grocery stores.
Like if you ran like a cookbook or if you ran, I haven't been in person, but L.A.
home farm.
It's like, you know.
I do love the idea of that.
It's not actually my personality.
But I, because I'm not like a.
It's the it's complicated version of your life.
Right.
Right.
It's a similar drive.
Right.
Exactly.
It's like the bakery, except I don't have to bake.
Exactly.
I have so much produce.
Present.
And people.
Produce coming out of my ears.
And local bakers probably give you pastrys to sell there.
And you have like, you don't have to bake them.
Really avant-garde sandwich choices that you really wouldn't see coming.
Oh, avant-garde.
Like such as?
Like, such as like, it's made out of ingredients that you would never see anything.
Right.
Such ass.
Such ass.
Like we're talking like...
I'm just having trouble like imagining like a totally avant-garde sandwich.
We're talking like boot leather wraps.
Boat leather wraps.
That is unexpected.
That's incredibly avant-cared.
We're thinking we're thinking...
So we're talking like not food.
Like not food.
Like everything is shaking the monkey in the way.
In a way.
In a way.
And we know what that means.
Yeah, I don't know.
That's what I would have done.
Okay, well, so there's monkeys.
There's monkeys in this movie.
In this movie because they have tails and they're monkeys and their baboons and they're not apes.
Yes.
Are they responsible for a virus that spreads quickly throughout a region?
No.
Oh.
They're not.
That's nice.
They normally are, I feel like.
It's nice to see a different representation of monkeys.
I just feel like there's quite a lot of, um, baboons and horror.
Maybe it's just the one.
The omen.
The omen.
Oh, yeah.
But to me, I'm like, a baboon is like a big horror creature for me.
Remember the baboon?
It does scary.
Oh, what's it called?
The other Dorden Peel movie, not get out the one that came after that.
Oh, no.
No.
It's not a baboon.
Is it a baboon?
It's like a boon.
No, that's just a chimp.
That is an ape.
Oh, it's a chimp.
I'm so.
It's a chimp, so that's an ape.
Okay, sorry.
I really fucked that up.
But like, baboons do seem scarier than chimps, even though I feel like we have, we've got a lot of evidence of
chimps being pretty scary.
Being scary.
I think because.
they just look more like kind of scary.
Yeah.
They just look scary.
And chimps look like us.
Right.
They have like big funny butts and they have like more intense facial features, I feel like.
Yeah.
The teeth are prominent.
The teeth are more on display.
Yeah.
Okay.
This week, the monkeys are a pretty small part of this movie.
Okay.
We are talking about Colony.
It was directed by Jan Seng Ho, written by Jan Seng Ho and Choi Kui Suk, starring Junji Huan, Kyi Huan,
Jikeng Wuk, Kim Shin Rock, and this IMDB does not list everybody.
This is like an ensemble cast.
Gusu, Shin-Hion Bin, Kim Hyeong-Muk, and that's all the IMD lists, but there's more
people in it and I'm sorry that I didn't look them up. But a great ensemble cast. It is in theaters
now. Are they all right behind you? Are we looking at the ensemble cast right now? For the video
episode, I do have a background. I don't love what I'm seeing back there. I really don't love it.
We have to acknowledge it though because it is the elephant in the room. It's the most upsetting
The zombies are well done in this movie, I'll say. Well, and so this is the same director as trained
to Busan. Correct. Oh, I love to train to Busan. Yes. And I'm excited. Let's not expect it to be
as good as trained to Busan. And we're not expecting it to be. My expectations are so low.
That's tough. That is really tough to like make another zombie movie. And are they in the same
world or no? No. They're completely different. There was a sequel to Train to Busan called
Peninsula that I never saw. But this is a completely new story.
story. He's very good at directing zombie movies. This one is, I'll say it feels like a lot of fun,
actiony set pieces. And my favorite thing that he does is like makes very good use of space,
which was a complaint of mine for Evil Dead Rise. If we're going to be in a high rise building,
I want to be making use of different floors. I want to be moving around the space.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And train to Busan. They're on a train for a lot of times.
They go to train stations.
It gets out of the train.
We go back in the train.
We're going down the cars of the train.
Yeah, yeah.
He makes very good use of the space, and that is true in this movie as well.
I think the characters are a little thin in this movie, and some of the logic doesn't really work for me.
But that said, it's a super fun time and, like, very entertaining and.
And Traynebouson's quite a high bar to meet.
Yeah.
God, speaking of, if you want a good cry.
I cried in the recap, so I'm good.
Yep.
I'm good.
It has an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 56 on Metacritic, and a 6.5 on IMDB.
Okay.
The budget was 12 million.
They converted it to U.S. dollars on the Wikipedia.
So this is U.S. dollars.
12 million U.S. dollars.
So far it has made 48.3.
Three million.
Oh, shit.
Mostly in South Korea so far.
It opened in the U.S. this past weekend, and those numbers are not available yet.
It's not playing in tons of theaters.
It's, I had to go to my least favorite Burbank AMC to see it.
No.
Your least favorite of the three?
Yep.
The one inside the mall?
Town center, yep.
Oh, God.
The plus side is it's right above a C's candy, so it does.
I at least get it.
to get a seize candy when I go to that theater, which counts for a lot.
This movie premiered at the Cannes Midnight Selection, which exactly 10 years after Train to Busan
premiered there as well.
Couldn't find like tons of trivia, but I found this, which I knew to be true, just wanted
to see it written down.
but they said to achieve the unique movement of the infected director Yansengho and his team recruited avant-garde contemporary dance groups to help choreographed the zombies.
You better believe there's a lot of, they're all made of sandwiches.
They're just 20 sandwiches tied together.
I doubt that is awful.
Yeah, I haven't even thought of that.
But you can really see it when you're watching.
I'm like, I know, you know, when you're watching it, I'm like, I know that these are all professionals.
dancers.
Yeah, that's fun.
Why isn't everyone doing that in zombie movies?
Like, that should just be what we do.
We should be hiring professional dancers in more movies for more things.
I love seeing the way they move.
It's what they do best.
It's what they do best.
They make having a body seem good.
Yeah, they're really using it in ways you don't normally think of.
Which is like an absolute miracle.
Yeah, I want to rewatch that actually, that fight scene.
I want to.
Oh, my God.
I'm going to do that after this.
Okay.
we should watch the trailer. I know that probably neither of you know anything about the movie,
so it is... I'm okay with learning some.
But I think, like, just to see the way these zombies move, just so you have something to picture.
I want to get eyes on those dancers.
Yeah, I got to get eyes. I'm not going to do a great job describing it. So let's see it with
our own eyes. Let's see it.
Well, that's quite nasty them.
I didn't even
terror.
This is a new
human human race.
Well, that's quite nasty.
Sick.
Did you see the baboons real quick?
I didn't.
Oh, I didn't even see them.
No.
Watch it again.
I'm really glad we watched that.
That looked incredible.
God, these dancers.
The way they move is so cool.
And there's like a twist on the zombie
lore in general, that is really cool. And I'm always just like so impressed that after this many zombie
movies, we can still find slight little new spins on things. The human brain.
Nicely done.
Yeah. I, this reminds me that when I was, I mean, when I was like traveling to your
Bachelorette and then by the time I got to the San Diego airport and I was like waiting for
my flight to leave, I really was having this feeling of like, God, I hope there isn't a zombie event.
Like I was like, how my God? That's where your brain was at. Yeah. I do feel like every now and again, I will find myself in a circumstance where I'm like, and now this would be a really bad time for a thing to become real. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I was thinking. I was like, I'm so tired. Like I do not have it in me. If there's going to be like a mass, if there's going to be a pandemic outbreak. If there's going to be, if shit, if society's going to collapse right now, I do not have it. Let me be at home. Let me be at home. Exactly. It's like I'm all the way across the country. Julie, it's like how many times am I not on an airport? Is something really.
going to happen when I am come on.
It would be awful.
When we were driving home from the Bachelorette, we were talking about the people that had
to take flights and all of us realized, and I'm curious if you guys do this as well, every
time I get on a plane, I look at everyone on the plane and I'm like, so these are the people
I'm going to be stranded on an island with if we go down.
I never do that.
I've never once.
I've never once.
I've always like lost brain.
Like I'm like, whoa.
this is where the season of loss
You're giving them characters too
You're like that's the archetypical
There's the cheerleader
There's the dork
That person looks like a survivalist
But clearly isn't
They're just cosplaying
And we're gonna find out
When we land on the island
Yeah I'm like
Who are gonna be my allies
When we go down
And split into factions
Start war
I have such blinders on
I don't even see one person's face
I think
I like don't even look at a single face
When I get on an airplane
I look at every face in first class
Every time I enter a plane
Nobody else
Every time my entry plane, I do look at everybody sitting in first class just to be like, who are you?
You're like, are you famous people in here?
And anytime I see like a really young person, I'm always like, really?
Yeah, it's annoying when there's, it's annoying when there's like a 17-year-old in first class.
17, can't sit in coach?
Yeah, I don't like that.
Do you guys remember when I sat next to Sally Field in first class?
Oh, yeah.
Remember that?
She can sit in first class.
She's allowed.
Well, I was kind of shocked that I was in the same.
I was like, I shouldn't be here.
Like, I shouldn't be in the same.
there's something wrong there.
But it would have been lucky for her if you guys had gone down.
I mean, not lucky for her.
Obviously, not like for anybody.
But if you have to be next to you in case of a lost situation.
Exactly.
I just mean she probably felt better about the possibility of a loss situation because she
was sitting next to you.
But thankfully it didn't happen, obviously.
There was a woman sitting in front of me with like a maybe like a two-year-old and a
four-year-old, like obviously the same ages.
And she was so worried about her kids touching things.
She kept being like, don't touch that, don't touch that, don't touch that.
And she was, like, getting more and more worked up.
No, not in first class.
No, this is one.
Oh, coach, coach, coach.
And, yeah.
Yeah, don't touch that.
I texted him about it because I was like, I feel so bad for her.
Like, maybe one of them is like, immunocompromise or something.
But also, they're like, literally two and four.
Like, they're going to touch it.
And, like, her being, like, so, like, frantic about it is actually doing the opposite.
I'm pretty sure.
I'm pretty sure it's putting.
Every time she says, don't touch that.
In their brain, they're just like, I'm going to touch it.
I got to find out why.
What's the big deal about this?
And then she put them in car seats so they couldn't really touch anything,
which I was like, well, that's also interesting.
I've never done that.
Yeah, you can do that.
I mean, it's definitely something people do for like babies.
But they were like, anyway.
I've never seen that.
I've never seen that.
So that woman I did clock and I don't know if I would have been thrilled to go down
and be on an island with her.
She seemed really stressed.
She seemed like she was not in the right head space.
Yeah.
Really stressed out.
Yeah.
And I'm going to do that now, Sammy.
Yeah.
It's a fun little exercise.
She's going to be the one that, like, gets herself in trouble and you have to risk your safety to save her.
Yeah.
Of course.
That's how it happens.
You're going to have to, like, grab the floating car seat or something with the baby in it.
Then she'll tell me a story, which will add sympathy and I'll understand the context for why she was freaking out so much.
And then I'll be the asshole for even, I'll have to redeem myself by saving, saving, risking my life to save her.
So I, yeah, we've all been there.
We've all been there.
That's how it goes.
Okay.
Let's get into this movie.
No.
No.
No, I want to keep talking.
I want to keep talking about other things.
Let's do it.
Let's do it.
Let's do it.
I'm ready.
I'm ready.
I will say they all looked pretty goopy.
Yes.
Yeah, there's a lot of goop.
And like a milky.
Not to talk about milk again, but like a milky goop.
Yeah.
Which I don't like.
Yeah.
It's like.
Sticky.
Yeah.
It's reminding me.
of like, is there a creature that gives that kind of goop?
Where's that kind of goop?
It's almost web like, but...
It was, yeah, the web.
The webs at the end.
I was noticing the webs.
Like, like, um, when, uh, Frodo gets, gets wrapped up by that, with a big spider.
Yeah.
There's a, there can be spiders.
This is a new spider thing.
There's an arachnid thing.
It is.
There are insect elements.
Okay.
They're cocoons for something else.
Okay.
Oh, God.
Okay.
let's actually talk about it.
Let's see.
I'll give a disclaimer that I saw it once last night, and this is a long movie, longer
than it should be, in my opinion.
So I'm going to spend more time up top, set in the scene, and then we're going to blast
through the second half because it kind of just does the same thing over and over until
the end.
I love that.
I love that.
I love that, too.
Most movies, I love the beginning.
I love the setup.
I love the opening.
And then once we get into that, like, we're doing it over and over again.
It's like, yeah, we can just, we can speed through that part.
The first third of this is super fun.
The ending is fun too.
And the middle is kind of like, all right, I get it, you know?
Great.
Okay.
So we begin with a man calling the police.
And we see him in like a lab surrounded by computers.
This is a tech-looking guy.
He's calling the police.
And he's saying there's going to be a.
attack in this building today.
Oh, you don't love a there's going to be.
And they're saying, excuse me, could you repeat that?
He says, well, terrorism, a bioterrorism attack.
I'm going to do a bioterrorism attack.
I'm going to do a bioterrorism.
I'm just letting you know.
Also, these movies better not be giving anyone ideas, okay?
Don't get any ideas watching this movie.
And the police on the other,
He tells the police on the other end that he's injected himself with the vaccine.
And so he's the only way to stop it.
So he starts this whole thing off with like an evil genius type vibe where he's like,
come and find me.
He's, I'm about to go do some terrorism.
Wow.
Okay.
And then we get the title, Colony, and it gives us the definition of Colony as something like a group of organisms that live together for a time.
Wait, what's the one that just came out that they're all lemmings?
They're all like the same hive mind.
What is that one?
That TV show that was just on.
Oh, pluribus.
Pluribus.
Pluribus.
Interesting.
Similar like thinking in a way.
Yep.
And now we...
Can't be due to anything going on society.
This is a reflection of our current moment.
Couldn't be.
No.
Horror movies don't do that.
No.
We meet our protagonist.
Sejong, her and her ex-husband are going to a biotech conference.
She seems to be kind of like reluctantly being dragged along to this.
Her ex-husband is like more leading the charge.
Like, come on, we're going to, we find out he's trying to get her a job at this company.
And I'm going to call most people by their kind of like character type.
He's going to be ex-husband, but
Great.
I'll call Sejong, Sejong.
She's prickly.
She's rolling her eyes at him.
She doesn't want to be there.
She doesn't want to job.
She didn't want to be married to him.
She didn't want to be married to him.
He makes a comment about her being an outcast.
She's a stunning, beautiful scientists, of course.
She's...
Yeah.
What's her flaw?
She's a...
menace to society.
And I guess we do find out here.
I didn't catch it.
But she has like a reputation because she was a whistleblower on like a well
respected dean in the academia community for something that he did some crime.
It was a financial crime, not a sexual crime.
But so people have kind.
She's now cast for that reason.
Oh, because they.
They liked the financial crimes.
They liked the dean and his financial crimes.
You know, I'm a little, I'm a little fuzzy on what the crimes were exactly, and it spends a lot of time explaining lots of other things.
And I do wish it spent just a hair or more on this specific.
The financial crimes.
This specific element of it.
But she asks her ex-husband how his current wife feels about them spending time together.
he tells her she is totally cool with it.
She is worried about you too.
We're both worried about you,
which is like kind of condescending.
And she's annoyed by this.
She rolls her eyes and she's like,
oh, what a cool life you have.
Wow, nice.
But she says she is curious about this biotech company
and this conference specifically
because she received a personal invitation to it
from someone with a somewhat,
cryptic message written that says imperfect communication is the source of all tragedy.
So she's like, what's this all about?
We go into a conference room.
The CEO of this biotech company is giving a presentation.
This company has made a promising discovery based on studying ants and how ants,
communicate with a hive mind.
I was just thinking about ants.
I was like, I hope this isn't about ants.
In my head, I hope it's not ants.
I was literally in my head this whole time I've been, I hope it's not.
Ants really are crazy.
They really are.
Ants are so fucking disturbing.
I've also lived in so many places with ant infestations.
Like when I was growing up, there are so many ant infestations in my house.
I'd feel like they're crawling on me all the time.
And they also carry their larva on top of their heads.
And it looks like.
Wiles.
They're wild species.
They're sick.
And there's so many different types.
Oh my God.
Wes would be so mad to hear you talking about it.
Well, aren't we also outnumbered by ants?
Like by like two million to one?
I believe it in a heartbeat.
The amount of ants I've seen in my life.
2.5 million to one.
Also, is there some fact, is there some fact about they could like lift all of us up?
Probably.
Well, they're very, they're very good at lifting more than their body weight.
Yeah.
They work together.
They work together.
I know there's like way more ants than humans, but I feel like related to that fact is like
and they could pick us all up.
I just felt like I had an ant on me.
Guys,
it's so psychosomatic ant stuff.
All of us up.
Oh,
did you just Google could ants pick all of?
I said how many ants could pick up one human?
It would take roughly 1 million to 68 million ants.
That's a wide range.
Well, it depends on the person.
Yeah, it depends on it's a baby or a huge man.
And I guess it depends on the ant size.
Oh, sick.
How many ants, how big a space would one million ants occupy?
Smaller than you think.
No, smaller than you think.
Like one million ants.
I feel like one million ants are inside this house right now.
The high end estimate is if small ants were picking up a big person, it could take about
68 million ants.
But if big ants were picking up a small person might only take one million ants.
What are we talking to small ants?
Big person or big ants?
Is there a lab that's doing these research?
Is there research happening for this right now?
Who's getting crowd surfed by ants at this moment for science?
But like, would you have to be horizontal because it's, they probably couldn't go under
your feet and you're standing up.
Yeah, exactly.
How would the ants get to you?
How would you lay down?
I would think it would need to be distributed horizontally.
You'd have to lay it down.
But they would have to get under you somehow.
They would have to get under you somehow.
I think if one million ants, big ants, you're a small person.
One million ants wanted to pick you up.
they could probably behave in such a way.
Like how do you keep from smushing them when you,
you know when ants like swarm something?
Like I feel like they could like, sorry, swarm you and then you just get like carried like
on a wave.
That's probably how it would happen.
They'd also be like eating you from the inside out.
I feel like that's also what would be happening.
I really don't like this at all.
It's just really crazy how much we're like never going to talk about this movie.
I'm sorry. There's too many interesting things happening.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Ants.
So the CEO is talking about how collective intelligence is the future of humanity.
Here's the like real life link with, I don't know, brains being microchipped so we can share intelligence.
Not that that's happening in real life, but it is being a little more talked about these days in a way that I don't like.
Elon Musk has, he has a whole company that's about a neuralink.
It's like a thriving company that's about putting a chip in your brain.
What could go wrong?
It's insane.
The thing is they're so close to being right.
It would work, but women have to be in charge.
Men get it in their heads, but women are the ones calling the shots.
Then it would work and then it would be fine.
Then it would be totally fine.
I see no problems.
We won't do anything wrong.
So Sejong's kind of unenthused about this presentation.
She's not buying that collective intelligence is.
something to strive towards.
But her ex-husband is still like,
we got to go speak to him.
We got to get you this job.
He's really gung-ho about getting her job.
So they go up to him after the presentation ends.
And as soon as they have a moment alone with him,
the CEO's phone rings and it is the police inquiring about,
has there been any terrorist attacks there?
We got a report that someone,
was going to do some bioterrorism over there. Have you seen this guy? I'm going to call this guy
the vaccine, the guy who has injected himself with the vaccine. They call him the vaccine in the
movie as well, actually, but he also has a name. I'm going to call him the vaccine. Basically,
they're like, have you seen the vaccine? He gave his name in the call. We know he's a previous
employee of the company. And the CEO recalls that he did actually see him somewhere, but he doesn't
know where he is now. So he excuses himself to go to.
to his office. Sejong doesn't get to talk to him, but ex-husband really wants her to take the
initiative. So he's like, follow him, follow him. So that when he's like off the call, you can be there
to- Hell definitely hire you. Follow him into like some room. Yeah, he like definitely goes in an area that's like
not open to the public. And she follows him. She's keeping a distance, but kind of keeping an eye on him.
and she sees the vaccine go into the office behind him looking like cartoonishly suspicious,
like he he he he he he he he.
Like full like Wiley Coyote about to do some shit.
Yeah, like the big tiptoe walk.
Do you know.
So she just assumes that maybe this is like a meeting that's going to be happening
even though the big tiptoe walk.
Looking left and right.
looking at shops.
So she goes back out to her ex-husband and is like, I don't know, it seemed like an important thing.
I don't know if he's going to want to talk.
So they go to grab some lunch.
At this point, we see that this conference area is within a larger building that's like a mall.
It has like corporate offices in there.
It's a huge building.
There's probably thousands of people inside.
And they go to the mall area and go to a sushi restaurant, just like Emily did last night.
She tried some raw fish.
Yeah, I eat sushi now.
Really proud of her.
That's not easy for her.
And it was all raw.
It was all raw.
And it was all really good.
Oh, my God.
That's huge.
So we see them there getting lunch.
We cut to a security guard.
and his sister, I'll call him security guard.
Sister is Hyunhi.
She is in a wheelchair.
They're in like their 40s, but clearly very close.
She seems like the older sister.
And she's kind of saying like, oh, enjoy your lunch break.
And he's like, no, no, like, I'll stay with you.
Like he really like feels protective of her.
And so is hanging out with her on his lunch break.
and they go into a camping supply store at the mall.
And he and he is like, oh, I really would love to go camping.
It would be so fun.
And security guard guy is like, I'll take you camping.
Like, we can go camping.
Let's do it this weekend.
And she's like really touched by this.
And it's like, really?
And he says, yeah, we'll figure it out.
So she's all excited about that.
I think if I met a brother and sister who were like,
we're going camping together this weekend.
Just us.
Two sibling adults, I'd be like.
Like, no.
No, I don't think that you should.
It did take me a long time to figure out if they were siblings or husband and wife.
The vibes are strange.
And like, I know that's probably unfair, but I do stand by it.
There's cultural elements as well.
I feel like I think it's weird to do a solo trip with your adult.
I agree.
Brother or sister.
I agree.
In the wilderness.
So back to the sushi.
restaurant we see
Sejong and her
ex. He gets a call
from his current
wife and their
daughter. It's a video call.
His current wife is like,
how's Sejong? Is she there?
And like is
clearly like also
wants her to get
this job and is like... Why do they want her
to get a job so badly? Do they have something to gain from that?
Does he get 50% of her income?
Because of the divorce?
Does she owe an alimabom?
It is confusing, but then we find out, she's like, well, hurry home because you need, you need to pack.
And they hang up and Sejong is like, are you guys going somewhere?
And we find out that he and his family are going to be moving to California.
He's been offered a job at UC Irvine.
And so she's like, I see now you're like, feel guilty that you're like leaving me here.
She doesn't have any friends.
she's she's an outcast remember a beautiful outcast right right right right and they're she doesn't
have a job and they're worried that if they leave her she's not going to be able to take care of herself
she's offended by this i think rightfully stands up and leaves pays the bill and leaves
and as they're leaving the sushi restaurant we see three students coming into the restaurant
I don't know if they're high school or college students somewhere on the cusp.
Their vibe is very strange.
It's like two very boisterous, a guy and a girl that are like really loud and teeny, teen-ish, like obnoxious.
And then one more like studious, nervous-looking girl that I think I was having a lot of trouble with a lot of the characters early on.
She's maybe my own problem, but I thought they had kidnapped this girl.
She was there against her will.
Yes, the vibe to me was that she was there against her will.
And they tell her she's paying for everything.
I'm like, okay, so they kidnapped her and they're making her pay.
They're forcing her to pay for it.
Wait, is she a sibling?
Is she like a sister to one of them or something?
No, she's just another student at their school.
We'll find out later that they just like bully her.
She's like their friend of me, I guess.
So she is in a way kidnapped to them there against her will.
Are they doing a group project?
I don't understand.
I don't know.
And again, like, we could have spent a little more time with the characters and a little less time on the science, I think.
Right.
Because you said ants.
I got everything I need to know.
I don't need to know a single other thing.
I need to know that much about the ants.
But we hear a lot about the ants.
So, meanwhile, we go back to upstairs.
All this is, like, happening at roughly the same time.
Upstairs, we see the vaccine guy inside the CEO's office now, taunting him.
He's like, you stole my research and I'm going to get my revenge.
Oh, so they're not working together.
No, but this ant research was apparently originated with the vaccine guy.
He has since been fired from the company and they're using some form of his research to,
for this new discovery that they're going to make lots of money off of tweaked in a way, though.
I don't really, as much as they talked about, I guess I don't really understand it.
So he tells this CEO guy that he's going to be his link to the new humanity that like everything's about to change.
This is going to be like a new intelligence era.
And he injects the CEO with some milky looking fluid.
So now we see our first zombie transformation.
his limbs are flailing about in all different directions.
This is from in the trailer?
Yeah.
This is a dancer man.
Yes.
And all it just all looks like it looks.
I'm sure there's a good amount of CGI in it, but they look like humans most of the time.
Like it doesn't look overly animated or computerized in any way.
So that's how I knew they were dancers.
But he is twisting in ways that I'm like, is he okay?
Right.
He's like a contortion.
probably.
Yeah.
And he vomits a bunch of white liquid, which looks to be kind of sticky and web-like.
Ugh.
Fuck this.
And they refer to it as mycelium.
Ew.
Which is like mushroom-related?
Fungus?
Yeah, mycelium.
Yeah.
That's like the network, how they're all connected.
Mm-hmm.
At around this time, the police arrive at the, like, lobby of,
the conference center and they're the counterterrorism unit. But by the time they arrive,
outbreak is already happening. It spreads very quickly. It spreads through bite only,
but CEO immediately just runs and bites everyone in the vicinity. It's multiplying everyone's
bite and everybody. And they get infected really like fast. Very quickly. They have like the vomiting and
twitching and bending their limbs. Are they making like,
a kind of clicky noise?
Or was that just like the sound design of the trailer?
I feel like there was like a like a like kind of like sound.
I don't think so.
They will make noises, some noises later.
Okay.
But have we seen any of them be killed yet?
No.
It's like shot to the head or okay.
No, but I mean, I feel like we can.
It's always shot.
It's always that.
They don't actually even ever bother like explaining that.
But yeah, shot to the head.
Great.
Seems to work.
So to his credit, Top Cop, I'll call this guy Top Cop.
He's like the head of the counterterrorism unit.
He immediately walkies says, lock down the building, quarantine the building, like something's going on.
We need to contain this.
Chaos breaks out throughout the whole building very, very quickly.
Everybody's running.
I'm having a hard time remembering, tracking where our characters are, but I know where they end up.
Sejong and her ex-husband run into the camping supply store that security guard and sister are in.
And somehow Top Cop ends up there as well.
And then there's a few other people in there that we haven't met yet.
They barricade themselves inside there as like a horde of zombies.
The zombies at this point are running on hands and feet.
They're on all fours.
And they're really fast.
And they're really fast.
Not like super naturally fast, but like they're running.
They're booking it.
And they're like screaming and have like milky stuff coming out of their eyes.
Yeah, milky stuff coming out of.
And they puked it.
They puked it.
They're presumably covered in it.
And like maybe secreting it, I feel like.
Yeah, because it seems like it's like on their heads and stuff.
Oh, secreting.
I hate that word.
Yeah, it's gross.
Yeah, Celium secreting.
It's movie's disgusting.
So the zombies see them inside the store and are like throwing themselves at the glass.
You've been to malls.
All the stores are just like floor to ceiling glass doors, which seems, you know, breakable.
So they're throwing themselves at it like full force and we're nervous.
Someone has the idea to turn all the lights out.
I don't know.
See what happens.
And the store goes black.
and the zombies all stop.
They can't see anything anymore.
And so they, like, get disinterested and kind of drift away.
They have no object permanence.
I love that.
It's great.
Comes in handy.
Okay, that's important.
We see across the way from the camping supply store is the sushi restaurant that the three teens
are in.
The lights are on in there.
So now the zombies see them.
And same thing at this store, throwing themselves at the,
glass, Sejong uses her iPhone flashlight to, like, get their attention. And the younger girl,
the kidnapped girl, notices. And then she puts up types, like, big text on her phone,
turn up the lights. And so they turn out the lights in there. Same thing happens. We're seeing,
yeah, these zombies aren't super smart. They're... This is supposed to be the next phase of human
intelligence, but they are not that smart. Well, we'll see. They're not that smart right now.
They're going to be worker bees for the queen or the king. So it works for a second, but
unfortunately, yes, drones, drone behavior. Dron behavior. It's on everyone's mind in different ways.
It works for a second, but then there is a glowing sign of like the sushi chef inside of the
restaurant. And so it just like looks like a human outline and they can't figure out how to turn
that off. And so the zombies noticed that. And they're trying to get to this sign. And we see
Sejun thinking fast. She's so smart. God, she's so smart. And she looks around the camping store.
And there's a lot of cardboard cutouts of people. And we see that these zombies don't seem to be
able to differentiate between 2D and 3D right now. And they're just going for anything that looks
human-ish. So she decides, let's take all these cardboard cutouts. We strap them to
Hyuni's wheelchair. Heunhi volunteers it because in the chaos before, He fell out of the wheelchair
like immediately. Once there was a like crowd of people running, she got knocked over really
quickly. And so in this moment, she's like, let's be real. Like the wheelchair's not going to,
I'm not actually going to be able to escape these zombies in this wheelchair. Anyways, we
might as well use it for this.
So they attach cardboard cutouts to all four sides of the wheelchair,
use a like hair tied or rope thing to like do the motor,
basically send the wheelchair out of the store accelerating down the hall.
And so in the other direction.
Zombies see it.
Immediately all follow it, run the other way.
How many zombies are we talking about?
This is probably like 30 right now.
Okay.
But we presume there's like many more in other parts of this building.
But this particular group is probably about 30.
So we've bought ourselves some time here.
And because the sushi restaurant glass was like starting to crack and they weren't going to be able to survive in there much longer.
And so they're using this time now to beckon them over like, okay, quick, quick, run into this store with the lights off.
they're not, they're not going to know that we're in here because they're not smart enough.
So they, one at a time, are running across the way into the camping store.
And the bullied teen girl is too scared.
She's the one like anxious mom on the plane.
That's just like, oh, ha, ha, ha, like, so stressed that she, like, can't really move.
Yeah, this is why she's getting bullied.
No, this is the bully.
Oh, ha, bitch.
So Sejong's ex-husband is like, I'll go get her.
And he goes across and he's trying to grab her.
And she's like so afraid that she's like pulling back.
She's like, no, no, no, no, no, no, I can.
I'm not going to leave this room.
So it takes him quite a bit of effort to get her across.
But he does finally.
And at the last second, a zombie like runs into both of them.
She kind of falls into the camping store.
And he like flies the other direction.
So they have to like close the door just to stop this zombie from coming inside.
And he ex-husband runs to a third store across the way.
And he's like hiding in there.
And he sees more cardboard cutouts.
And he kind of positions them away from him.
So that by the time the zombie that's chasing him like gets into this store, there's
these like distractions.
And this zombie's kind of looking at each of these.
cardboard cutouts. We cut to the main group of zombies that have now knocked over the wheelchair
and are like eating these cardboard signs. And the hive mind is going to tell this other zombie.
Oh, baby. And so, yeah, one of the zombies that's eating the cardboard learns that cardboard is not
human. And this is when he kind of goes stiff and his head shoots.
up and his mouth opens and he's making like a, ah, a noise.
And all of the zombies simultaneously go like, ah, ah.
And they all shake for like a minute with their heads up, like they're receiving information.
And so once that stops, yes.
Now they all know cardboard cutout is not person.
And so back in this.
During that download, that would have been a good time.
to run.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So ex-husband is now screwed because this zombie is not falling for this trick anymore.
And he just makes a run for it.
He's only like two doors down from the camping store, but he does not get there in time.
He, like, is about to make it to the door when the whole horde comes and piles on him,
like right up against the camping store glass.
so they just really see it happens very upsetting.
Ex-husband is dunzo.
Damn.
So now we all turn to this top cop in the camping store with us.
Like, what do we do?
What is going to happen?
Is there rescue teams?
We're seeing outside, like, huge crowds building people who have,
who know that their loved ones are inside,
don't know, like, are like, like, holding up signs, like, release them.
Dang, news travels fast.
Yeah, there's been like, well, people would like call and text from inside.
That's true.
Yep, yep, yep.
And it is on the news now as well.
I think like more time passes than we think.
Like I think this whole movie probably does take place over a couple days, not just like a couple hours.
But don't we ever sleep.
So I don't know.
But anywho, this top cop.
tells them, like, they're not going to let us out.
This is a quarantine zone.
No one's coming to save us.
Nobody knows what this is.
Like, it's too dangerous.
And the only way we can get out of here is if we find that vaccine guy and bring him out.
Because they're going to want him so that they can do whatever tests on this guy to be able to find the vaccine for whatever this is.
The only way?
There isn't like a little secret exit.
This is what I'm talking about.
of this like annoys me because it feels like they've like set up this golden rule that is like
I don't buy it right I think we can figure something else out but somewhere in here
ex-husband's phone rings and sejung is you know like crying and answers it and we see
his current wife get the news that he has died.
Current wife's name is Solhi.
She'll come back later.
Kind of fun.
This is like, I'd say,
one of two emotional moments in this movie.
I think that's one of the main, like,
Train to Busan did such a good job
making you very emotionally invested in all of the people.
And I don't think this movie does it.
as well.
Well, the main character is an outcast, so.
Oh, my God.
Who could relate?
So, we don't give a shit about her.
So Sejong tells Top Cop that she saw the vaccine guy on the third floor when she went to try
to talk to CEO.
And we saw that the CEO locked him in a closet.
I don't remember if she saw that.
But anyways, regardless, they're like, we need to get up.
there and try to find him. But how the fuck are we going to do that? How are we going to be able to
leave this store? Sejong, thinking away, thinking away, planning. She's so smart.
She's so smart, but nobody likes her. And she seems to know a lot about ants. She says...
Yeah, it's not a very cool trait. She's like saying, okay, they're all, they all learn together.
we just saw them all learn something at the same time.
So if we can give them false information,
they will all...
Oh, gosh, she is so smart.
It is actually really smart.
I would not have come up with this.
Like if you just feed info to one of them,
you've suddenly fed it to all of them.
And this is where a hive mind is bad.
Yeah, this is called the internet.
Yes.
This is where the internet's a problem.
So we can use collective intelligence
against them.
And she talks about ants and she says this happens sometimes with ants where they think
they can make an ant hill somewhere.
And if they can't, like, none of them can get out of that thought and they'll just like
circle an ant hill until they, like a potential ant hill until they die.
Jesus Christ.
So that's interesting information to know.
I feel like that right there is like I love to imagine the idea that a writer heard,
that made them be like, oh my God, I have to write that script.
Like, I can imagine learning that fact about ants and being like, whoa.
Yeah.
There's a horror movie there somewhere.
Yeah.
I think that's cool.
So the idea she comes up with is if someone goes out to them smelling a certain way,
and then everybody else smells a different way and stands still, we can, like, teach them that
humans smell this way. It's, it's, it's, you know, it's interesting. And it, I'm, yeah,
well, let's explore this. So, right, because, yeah, a guy volunteers, a guy that we haven't met before.
He says he, uh, he's an older gentleman. He's like, I smell bad. Excuse me. Because I was
a person going to have to, like, sacrifice themselves. It's a possibility. Yes. Certainly, it's someone
volunteering to go out there and try to, like, get them to smell him enough, but not,
hopefully not kill him.
But he says, I'll do it.
I was in track and field my whole life.
You guys all look down on me because I'm older,
but I'm actually like really fast and cool.
Okay.
And they're like, all right, okay, cool.
So they cover this guy in perfume.
There's like a bottle of perfume that they cover him in.
They're all like gearing up right now too.
They're like, okay,
we got to start gearing up protecting ourselves for leaving this store.
So luckily they're in the like,
camping supply stores.
So they're covering themselves in thick jackets,
sleeping bags,
duct taping everywhere.
There's a one of those backpacks that converts into a chair.
So security guard straps sister onto his back in like a chair,
chair backpack.
We're protecting ourselves as best we can.
And we've got some pretty good tools at our disposal.
But only this guy's going out right now,
but part of the plan is,
is to let them in the store at some point.
So, okay, let me keep going through it.
So this guy's covered in perfume.
They cover themselves all in anti-freeze.
Oh, what's the anti-free?
Like, maybe we could have covered that guy in anti-freeze and all of us in perfume.
But I guess they have more anti-freeze than they have perfume.
So it's just the strongest smell liquid that they could find that they have the most.
I know, exactly.
It just made me wonder like, what does it smell like?
I don't can't.
Probably not good.
Yeah, I would imagine not good.
So they all cover themselves in that and they cover all the mannequins in anti-freeze as well and the cardboard cutouts.
Smart.
And so the plan is for perfume guy to go out there, them send their hive mind message.
Okay, humans smell like this.
And then he comes back into the store.
they follow him in there.
They've got a trail of perfume leading to a room filled with mannequins covered in antifreeze
so that the zombies will try to eat the mannequins and realize that they're not humans.
Another hive mind message goes out.
Antifreeze is not human.
Antifreeze is mannequin.
And so now all the humans covered in antifreeze standing still have a layer of protection
against the zombies.
Wow.
Okay.
Sure.
Worth a shot.
Worth a shot.
I'm also like,
why doesn't he just go out
smelling like human?
And we do the same plan,
but with the anti-freeze.
I guess because they've already smelled human.
And so...
So is it the idea is to keep them
from eating other humans?
I think it's to change their idea
of what humans smell like.
But in order to do that,
won't they have to eat that guy?
Yeah, they're going to have to eat that guy.
That's the main flaw.
They were like grabbing him and trying to eat him.
Right, but they wouldn't they have to eat him to confirm?
That I see.
I like that.
He's yummy and tasty and we like this.
Yes.
Because they've already confirmed that human smell is yummy and tasty and they like that.
I guess like, I don't know why I'm poking holes in this plan.
It's not my plan.
There's a lot of holes to be poked in the whole movie, I would say.
Because I'm also like there's more people in this mall than just the ones in this
camping store.
I think this is just a right now plan.
This is not a forever plan.
this is like what can we do right now to like get from point A to point B and then we'll think of another plan.
I like it.
Because they're going to figure it out eventually.
And also how do they decide what's information worth sharing with the hive?
That's the other main thing is it's like how do you decide what's worth sharing with the entire hive?
I guess we just got to try.
Yeah.
We're going to find out because this could just be a one-off, you know.
True.
Yeah.
Well, they do it and it works.
It gives them a chance to leave the campaign.
store as all of these zombies are in their like frozen information sharing phase. It lasts for like a
minute or so. And they didn't eat the perfume guy. No. I mean, they tried to, but he got he got away because he's so
fast track and field. Right. Cool. Track and field. He wasn't lying about that. And I think they also know that
because he's like moving and running that he's a human. Like the mannequins and his hardboard don't move.
Like act like, you know, act like. Yeah. Yeah. So.
They all leave the camping store.
They're heading for the third floor to get vaccine guy.
And they're moving their way through all these, like, frozen, shaking zombies.
And bully, scared girl has wrapped herself so thick in sleeping bags.
So now I'm going to call her sleeping bag girl.
She looks like jiggly puff.
She's so funny.
She's just, like, absolutely padded.
But I'm guessing she can't really move.
So she's not, she does it.
She's not super nimble.
Yeah.
Yeah. And she runs into a couple of the zombies and knocks one of them like somehow on top of her. She like falls underneath immediately screaming bloody murder. Someone runs back to like help her. But we, this clock is ticking. This information exchange doesn't last super long. And so again, Sejong is like, oh fuck, oh fuck. What do I do? She looks up, sees all the like fire sprinklers and grabs a lot.
lighter, holds it up to the smoke detector, and the fire sprinklers start spraying water,
which somehow interrupts the mycelium network.
Question mark on that one.
Not sure the science behind this, but it seems to work and gives them a chance to free her
from underneath the zombie and make it to this cargo elevator.
Because they're with the security guard, they know, like, essentially the blueprint of this
called building, which is handy.
So he suggested, let's try to go to this cargo elevator.
It won't have many people in it because it's a lesser used part of the building.
So they make it to this cargo elevator.
They're going up to floor three.
They're on floor two.
There's 30 floors in this building.
They make it up to the third floor.
They get to the room that vaccine guy is locked in.
he is just smiling away. He's like, he, he, he, my plan going without a hitch. His performance
is really fun. And he's extremely hot. I didn't mention that. And that is important. Oh, that is important.
Thank you. That changes everything. Yeah. Wait, is he still in a closet or is he just, they're in a room together
with him now. They take him out of the closet. He's out of the closet. At this moment, he came out of
closet. He came out of the closet. And he's hot. And he's extremely hot. So, but he's a smug little
shit. And he is having the time of his freaking life. And they handcuff him. Top cop handcuffs him.
They say, okay, now we need to take the cargo elevator up to the roof. And we can get
picked up by rescue team. So they all get into the elevator. It's another 27 stories.
Easy, easy, easy. Go to the elevator. Press floor 30.
and vaccine guy looks at the track and field guy and was like,
you were so fast back there.
Your moves were so good.
The way you like ran around was really impressive.
And we're like, wait a second, how does he know that?
He was not there for that.
Because he's hive minded.
He's the queen.
He's the queen bee.
That little motherfucker.
That's why he's happy.
Oh, we don't want to be with him.
He says the new intelligence is just my intelligence.
forcing everyone to be my little slaves.
And this is why you can't put men in charge.
No, I'm saying women would do it so differently.
So different.
So he does a quick little move now.
Vaccine guy goes and presses floor nine, presses the nine button.
And the door's open on floor nine.
The elevator is flooded with zombies.
It's absolute chaos.
We see that none of them touch him.
His vaccine, whatever, makes him uninteresting to the zombie.
So he just smiles and walks away, kind of waves goodbye, leaving them with this horde of zombies,
which kill track and field guy, sadly, and kill the teen boy who we hardly knew him.
We hardly knew him.
But he was kind of a bully.
He was a bully, though, yeah.
So he totally deserved it.
Yeah.
And we cut to current wife, Solhi.
and she is also an extremely beautiful scientist, if you can believe it.
And she is being called to the counterterrorism.
How, these are some very important women.
They really are.
She's being called to the investigation.
They found the vaccine guy's lab that he's been doing all his experiments in.
It's this nasty mycelium covered building in the middle of nowhere.
They go inside.
It's filled with cages and cages of baboons.
Ew.
Oh, no.
And they're all frozen.
They're all like frozen in place, but she shines.
Not like cold temperature frozen.
Just not moved.
Still paralyzed.
Still, like paralyzed.
And she shines a light in one of their eyes.
And we see the pupil adjust.
So she's like, they're all alive.
Oh.
And then they find one of the cages has been broken out of.
And each of the cages is,
labeled by numbers. It's like number 51 through 75. And there's just one cage labeled number one.
And that cage has been broken out of. And there's probably like 30 people, some like soldiers,
some scientists in this lab. And we just get a big baboon set piece. And are these real baboons?
Oh, these are very, very CGI. Very CGA. Very CGA. I suppose that may.
You know, the humans look really good and these baboons look like absolute shit, but you don't mind.
It's like whatever.
It's fine.
It's okay.
And were there baboons in Gladiator 2?
Is that the last time I saw CGI'd baboons?
Perhaps.
Yeah, that sounds familiar.
I'm like, why am I, I can like picture CGI'd baboons and I think that.
Well, there's also the wicked like flying monkeys.
Well, that's fine.
Those are blue.
Those are deeply CGI.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
But I think there were baboons in Gladiator too.
That sounds right.
But so we see baboon number one.
up in the rafters above them.
They're in, like, hazmat suits, so visibility is not great.
They don't have, like, the best peripheral vision.
There's a lot of very fun directorial choices here.
She is in a hazmat suit, Solhi.
And there's, like, a shot from inside her faceplate where we see a baboon, like,
scratching at the glass of her mask.
The rest of the baboons all, like, break out of the cage.
It's just, it's, again, madness, mayhem.
Baboons everywhere.
Do we see what, like, activated them?
Um, I think.
Baboon number one.
Baboon number one.
Yeah.
Is the vaccine guy of the baboon world?
Yes.
That's what we're gleaning.
This is how he tested the hive mine thing.
He made a...
Right.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yes.
And so, so he is being chased by a baboon.
Uh, one of the soldiers kills it, shoots it in the head.
And all the,
the rest of the baboons freeze again.
And she sees the tag on this ear.
This is baboon number one.
So we see if we have baboon number one dead.
The rest can't function.
So pretty handy.
Really useful.
Now we go back to our group.
They come up with a plan with the security guard guide to go to the like control room,
like camera room.
They're like, we'll be able to see things, what's going on.
everywhere, we'll be able to find vaccine guy,
we'll be able to find the, like, safest
path to get there.
Smart. So they go, they go
down to the control room.
The zombies at this point,
because I'd like,
this is just a, like, small detail that doesn't
really affect anything, but because
security guard is carrying his
sister on
his back, the zombies have
seen that and are now, like,
carrying each other on their backs, too.
They're kind of, like, mimicking
them in a way. They're learning. They love to learn. Yes, they are learning. And so, but it adds to like the fun, like, contortiony way that they move because now they're like interlinking bodies and like using each other's bodies to like balance and bend in different ways. So they're- Oh, but ants do that too. Yes, ants do do that too. Kind of like those, those like TikToks where like girls try to do like cartwheels together where it's like one set of legs and the other set of legs. Yes.
Ants do that too.
Yeah, ants will like climb on top of each other to like,
to like get to things.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Well, it's all one brain, I guess.
Yeah.
Freaky.
So there's just some fun moments in here where they're...
So like if one, if one aunt decided it wanted to carry you,
they would all decide they wanted to carry you.
They would have to figure out how to work together to carry you.
Yeah.
But they'd just have to figure out how to do that.
I mean, that's on them.
I'm not going to figure that out for them.
Right.
We're not going to do your job for you.
Yeah, figure it out.
So there's like fun, there's fun moments in here, fun chases as they're making their way down to the control room.
I won't get too much into them, but just know that the bendy aspect is part of it now, which makes for some fun moments.
But they make it to the control room and they find where vaccine guy is.
He's back on the third floor with he's found the CEO.
He like really has it out for the CEO guy clearly.
And so he's like taunting.
He's found him and he's taunting him because he's like getting his revenge.
So they're watching him on the monitor and they watch as vaccine guy lets the CEO guy bite him.
He's like, I told you you'd be my link to the new world.
So bite me.
CEO as a zombie bites him.
And we see the like mycelium and whatever.
like flowing through him.
But he's not like changing into how they are.
He's just changing into an evolved version of himself where he's still like in control
of his thoughts and now like fully fused with the hive.
Not sure how fused he was before because he did seem to be able to like see through
their eyes before.
But now he can like control them for some reason.
So the sister volunteers to stay down there.
She's like, I'll just stay here and like run comms essentially.
Like we all have our phones.
We'll be texting.
They've got like a group text going.
And she's like, I'll direct you guys on the clearest path up there.
So they're able to get up there with more ease than before.
They get vaccine guy.
They like quickly realize that he is now connected to the high.
hive because he's able to like call them to wherever they are.
Like they see the horde coming even when they shouldn't have known that they were there.
And so Sejong, of course, figures it out, wraps like bandana across his eyes,
covers his vision so that he can't see where he is anymore.
And then they kind of like run around in circles a little bit to like confuse him.
So he can't call the hive to where they are anymore.
And she tells everybody, like, communicate by text only, don't say anything out loud.
Because anything we say, he'll hear and can tell the whole zombie hoard.
Immediately these idiots are like, so should we go back to the control room where your sister is?
Vaccine guy smiles, an evil little smile.
Oh, no.
We see immediately all of the zombies like turn and head to.
the control room.
Security guard starts panicking.
He's running down there as well.
He calls his sister and is like, direct me, direct me.
And she's like crying and she's directing him.
She's like, turn left, turn right, turn left.
And then he like gets somewhere and he's like, wait, I'm not anywhere by you.
And she's like, I know, like, it's not safe for you to come here.
And like you need to go.
So she basically directs him to a place where there's,
No zombies.
And then they all break through the glass of the control room.
And she says, like, we should have gone camping last weekend.
I knew there was going to be a camping reference.
I knew it.
I knew it.
I knew it.
Oh, that's sad.
Is this another?
This was the other emotional moment.
This is the other emotional part.
Okay, good.
I'm glad because I don't want there to be any more emotions.
You know what?
Sorry, there is actually one more.
Oh, fuck.
Okay.
But none of them are like super hard hitting.
I got to say.
I didn't shed any tears in this movie.
as we discussed my thresholds higher now.
We got to shake the monkey somehow else.
So, okay, so now security guard is driven mad with grief.
He, like, very quickly changes to, like, I'm going to kill everybody.
I'm going to kill this vaccine guy.
They're all, like, you can't kill vaccine guy.
Then you're, like, damning the whole world to a cure, like, not having a cure.
And he's like, I don't care.
Like, my sister's dead.
I don't care if, like, literally everybody else dies.
It's a pretty huge turnaround pretty quickly.
He seemed like a pretty nice guy.
But also do they not think the zombies are like done?
Like they think that there's a chance that they can be turned back into humans?
No.
That's what everyone's operating on?
At first, yes.
And there is a discussion at the like counterterrorism headquarters with current wife,
scientist woman where she says you cannot rebuild neural networks once they have been changed in this way.
And so they, they like.
manipulate the situation to be able to use her as like a shield as like we're going to just
kill all of them now because at first there's like families outside like saying like we want our
family members back and they don't have like carte blanche to just kill them because they don't know
if there's a if they can be changed back but they like kind of parade this woman out as an excuse
and like she said so now we can kill them oh well yeah but yeah and she seems she's she like is fine
with it. We get the impression that people are going to be really angry at her about it,
but she feels like she knows that that is the correct path forward. So she's like,
you can use me as. Is she going to be an outcast? Wow, she's not, I was going to say,
she's not scared to be a beautiful science outcast. Okay. So. So he's, but he will kill any
human to get to vaccine guy is kind of the vibe he's giving. Is he's like he doesn't care about it.
anyone and we do see some like
scenes of him
just tearing through zombies
he's also like an incredibly skilled
fighter he finds
some knives and he's like
slitting throats and doing flips
and stabbing people I'm like okay
security guard guy he's got some skills
and like slitting throats and stuff
is working yes I guess so
because I guess they're not they're just like
they aren't like
super super super strong they're different kind of zombie
I feel like than then
they're not undead, they're just infected.
Yes, exactly.
That sounds right to me.
If they were undead, you'd have to shoot them in the head, obviously.
But because they're just human bodies with new neural networks,
you can still slit their throats.
I feel like those are lyrics to a song.
I don't know why.
I just feel like you could have a hit pop song.
I could have a hit.
I could have a hit on my hand.
Just shoot them in the head.
Yeah, I think those are all the makings of a hit.
Okay.
And there we go, and that's the beat.
So our group is getting like splintered and it's getting hard for me to track where everybody is.
But Top Cop has vaccine guy and there's one like business guy that's been with them the whole time that's,
has vibes of selfish
vibes, selfish businessman vibes.
He's not a team player.
So he's expendable.
And he's been like backing up the cop
in certain situations where the cop is
like with the sister.
They were like, we got to go save the sister.
Cops like, nope, we're not doing that.
And at one point the cop pulls a gun on Cajon
and is like if you do anything like that,
like, I'll kill you.
Cop guys, not great.
He's copping around.
He's being a cop.
He's being a top cop.
He's abusing his power.
And they like kind of get cornered by oncoming hordes of zombies.
And business guys like, what should we do?
What should we do?
And Top cop looks at him.
He's like, you should run as fast as you can.
And the guy runs and he shoots him in the leg.
Whoa.
Cops are really bad guy.
He's really bad.
And he uses this guy as human bait to distract the zombies.
Jesus.
But it backfires.
There's like discussion, as there is in most zombie movies, but like about it risking your life to save others type of thing.
And like if that's worth it.
Like he said, I think Top Cop made a like said when ex-husband died, like that's why you don't risk your life to save other people.
That's why like we shouldn't be doing that.
And so what's your job against her?
Right, right.
Hold on.
Just remind me really quickly what the parameters of your job are.
Yeah, what are the bylaws of being a top cop.
Not you a public servant of sorts?
Sorry, what's the, what's the slogan for cops?
That reminds me of in a, this is so stupid.
A really small detail in the Transformers movie is when the, when they transform into cop cars, the bad transformers, it changes the font.
from to protect and serve to like to kill and destroy like these transformers were so detail
oriented that we're like we got to change the phrase we're bad uh so business guy top cop tries to
run past him business guy grabs onto top cop's legs and won't let go and he's like screaming
let me go let me go and literally why would i like shot me why would i do that
You fucking shot me.
And so, of course, the horde of zombies just piles on both of them, killing them both.
Great.
Are three remaining people, Sejung, sleeping bad girl, and kidnapped girl.
Okay.
Wow.
And they have a vaccine guy now with his blindfold on and he's handcuffed.
Okay.
Smiling away.
Shit eating grin.
Wow.
They barricade themselves in kind of supplies.
room and they're communicating through text.
Sejun says that she's going to go back out and get the top cop's cell phone so that she can
call the rescue team or whoever he's been talking to to coordinate some sort of rescue
attempt.
She's like, we've got the vaccine guy.
They've got to come in.
They've got to come save us.
Help us.
So she goes out to do that.
we're left with the two girls bully and bullied.
And the bully apologizes, but it doesn't.
It doesn't feel sincere.
And this was also the moment where I was like, here's where we're going to find out all the details of the kidnapping.
Like, I still didn't know the actual dynamic here.
And so I was like, what?
It's just a bully.
They're just bad friends.
They're just bad friends.
So vaccine guys.
like listening to them, but also kind of calculating what he thinks the plan is.
So funny to like create this whole like to do bioterrorism and to get stuck in a room with two
teenage girls.
One bully is the other one and you have to just like listen to a bad apology from a teen bully.
You can control like a full population and you still get stuck in a room with two teen girls.
He doesn't seem above it.
He's kind of invested and he's kind of like.
What's going on with these teen girls? This is juicy.
Yeah, I guess it is kind of fun.
But he has been hearing them texting back and forth. He obviously heard the first time
Sejohn was like all communications through text now. So he knows that they're texting.
And he has the idea of having one of the zombies.
Steal a phone?
Steal a phone from one of them.
Wow, he is. He's doing it right.
I guess they take business guys phone. And we see it's the track and field guys on.
that is unfortunately the pawn at this point.
I don't know, but he's not in his right mind.
So he reads the texts and in the text somewhere it says like we'll get them to come to
this supply room.
It like says their location in it, unfortunately.
And so he calls all the zombies there.
They need to be starting new text threads every time someone comes to zombie.
I'm thinking, I mean hindsight's 2020, but I'm thinking just get out your notes app, write the
message deleted immediately. Like, no, there's a need to be, like, you just show the person,
here's what I wrote. Yeah, don't leave a trail. Don't need to text it. You just can be like passing a
notepad back and forth essentially. Better yet. Get a notepad. Yeah. But then you got to scribble it out.
That's true. Also, just the concept of like zombies being able to read. I know. That part I was like,
so you can read. Some neural networks are working. Still there. Right. Because it's like,
why can you read? Maybe because the main, the hive mind guy can read. I guess.
You know, vaccine guy can read?
You can learn so much knowledge from reading, how you hive-minded nonstop.
Like, just throw them like a bunch of, you know, textbooks.
Yeah.
I'm just say, like, just make them learn constantly and then they won't be able to attack you.
Just make them learn.
Put them in the university.
Where did these teens come from?
Put them in their school.
So.
Okay, that's the sequel.
That's two.
Zombies.
Zombie university.
Zombie you.
Wait, isn't that a thing?
That's like a Nicolodeon show, a Disney Jr. show.
Yeah.
So zombies come to the supply room.
They break down the door.
They're in there now.
Bully girl who's just apologized seemingly for all of her transgressions immediately
throws the other girl straight to them to protect herself.
Oh my God.
Funny.
Wow.
This is a really shitty friendship.
situation. It's very bad. Really bad friend of me. I'm actually glad we didn't know more about
these characters because, you know, betrayal is my least favorite thing. That's true. So,
vaccine guy pulls off the blindfold. He's still handcuffed, but he like sees this situation.
He's really tickled by it. He's like, oh, yeah, you're so sorry, aren't you? And then immediately
the now bitten, bullied girl turns into a zombie. And he's like, well, like, now you're going to
I'm going to see how it feels.
And she is bitten and attacked and turned as well immediately.
I don't know what she thought was going to happen there that she was going to get out of that.
Not so much.
So now those girls are dead.
They could go to university again together.
That's true.
Who knows what the future holds.
See you at zombie you.
See you at zombie you.
It could be really bright.
Yeah.
So we see now current, well,
wife, Sulhi, is they're going through security footage for the whole building. And she says the, like,
patient zero is our key. We need to find who was bitten first or who was infected first. And so
they go through the footage and they find the footage of vaccine guy injecting CEO guy. And so they're all
like, all right, we need to find CEO guy, kill CEO guy, and this will all be over.
So they do that.
They send in like the SWAT team, more mayhem, more chaos.
And they find CEO guy and they kill him and nothing happens.
And this is where I'm annoyed because I'm like, yeah, because it's vaccine guy.
I feel like it's so obviously vaccine guy that they need to kill.
and none of them have put that together.
They're like so weird that that didn't work.
I guess we're fucked.
And it's like, why wouldn't we just kill vaccine guy?
I still don't understand why we wouldn't.
Well, I think they're very, it's like the last of us where it's like, if we kill him
then and this isn't taken care of, then there's no vaccine.
And we're all fucked.
So they need to study him and like extract the vaccine from him.
He needs to be alive for that.
But the vaccine also isn't a normal vaccine.
It just makes you queen be.
right? It's not going to like put them back. I don't know. I guess. Yeah. I guess wouldn't they
have figured that out from the primates. You want to know as much as you can. Yeah. I think they're not
willing to risk it. That's why they go to zombie you. Uh, so vaccine guy is now trying to get to the
roof. He's still on the same floor. He's like making his way down more, um, businesses through this
mall and he is intercepted by security guard guy with his knives who's like, I'm going to
fucking kill you.
I don't care if you're the vaccine.
And I think we get a little bit of Sejong, like, running and being like, you can't kill him,
you can't kill him.
He's the vaccine.
He's like our only chance of stopping this.
And he's like, I don't give a shit.
So he's attacking vaccine guy.
And vaccine guy just does a quick little like summons the ants.
Or a summoning.
but this is the other semi-emotional part.
He summons his sister.
Okay, well, that was just, this is a petty son of a bitch.
He's really petty and he's like, look, your dreams have come true because she's walking now
because she's like part of this neural network and it like really catches him off guard
and he like has a moment of being like really emotional seeing her walk and then she kills him.
So security guard dies.
It's a fucking low blow.
Yeah, that's fucking.
up. Really fucked up, but now vaccine guy and Sejong have like a little face off. And we learn that
vaccine guy's dad was the dean that she... Stop it.
Shamed and rat it on. Is this, is this, is he, is this, is he taking revenge over that? Or is that
just happened to be? He is and she puts together that he sent her that.
invitation saying like miscommunication is the root of all tragedy and he's like my dad didn't do
anything wrong you it was all a misunderstanding and again I'm like pretty fuzzy on what exactly
happened bioterrorism because someone was mean to your daddy what we do find out that his dad was
so ashamed that he committed suicide so not that that not that excuses it no but that is but it's not
just that his feelings got hurt it is that he he was so ashamed that he
he took his own life.
And it's her fault for pointing it out, not his fault for doing the crimes in the first place.
It was just a miscommunication, Henley.
They weren't actually real crimes.
Oh, they weren't crimes.
I'd really like some more details about what the crimes.
I heard something about embezzlement.
I heard something about it.
How can that be a miscommunication?
I don't know.
I don't know.
Well, and it's also entirely possible that vaccine guys like not thinking logically.
I think he's probably not in a good, yeah, mental state.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
But yeah, she's scoffing at this too.
Like, so this is revenge for that.
Like, are you serious?
And he's like, it's not revenge.
This is a rebirth.
Like, this is a new dawning, dawn.
This is a dawning navelace of Aquarius.
This could be a musical.
Let's put this on Broadway.
There's already dancers.
So he's saying there's going to be no more miscommunication.
It's going to be utopia.
Everyone's going to be on the same page.
There can be no opportunity for anything bad.
to ever happen ever again. There's going to be no more miscommunication.
Wait, you guys, I just had the moment of like the creator who had the monkey learn something
about ants circling the thing. I just had...
This is my narrative, but yeah. I just had that moment except for what the next huge, massive
Broadway musical hit is going to be. And it's going to be a zombie story. It'll be a zombie
story with dancers, extravagant, avant-garde dancing.
Aval-garde dancing.
I want to say. Avond God. Avond God or nothing.
Don't you feel like that would be like a 25 year run if it was done correctly?
Yeah. And if somebody makes it, you owe Henley royalties.
I mean, I will sit down with anyone. Those are the only ideas I have so far,
but I'll sit down in a room with someone and we can just hash it out, you know.
It all starts there. We just, we're just going to come up with some beautiful songs about
zombies and life and reaping and death and undead. I already wrote a hit like a few minutes ago.
That's what I'm talking about. Those are talking about the creative pieces are flowing. It just feels
right.
She feels right.
It feels right.
And it feels extremely lucrative.
She feels so lucrative.
I'm seeing dollars on it.
There's no way.
And that's what it's all about, folks.
Sorry, there's something that's just really getting him up being like a utopia.
No more miscommunication.
Which don't get me wrong.
Miscommunication is bad and it does lead to a lot of things going wrong.
But it's also like there will be no more miscommunication because everybody will believe
what I believe.
And it's like, well, right, right.
Unfortunately, like, too many people think that way.
I was going to say, yeah, it unfortunately is a real thing that some people think.
Yeah.
So now the rescue team is coming in.
They grab vaccine guy, but not Sejong.
They see her and are kind of like, not the priority.
So we leave her there.
It's fucked up.
It is fucked up.
It's very fucked up.
Especially because it's obviously.
that she's not infected.
Like it's like,
it's one thing if you're worried,
she might be infected.
Yeah, but I guess I don't understand the parameters of like,
because she,
if she's breathing it in,
could that,
you know?
Right.
That's what I would think,
but they do seem like pretty clear
on the parameters of it.
They're like,
she's not bitten so she's not infected.
They like know that only being bitten.
Okay.
Well,
so there's assholes.
But still,
that would be,
yeah,
I guess it's a plausible to dieability,
let's say.
Just to be safe.
We'll sacrifice her.
So they leave her there.
So he,
sees her on the like CCTV. She's watching from the headquarter place that they've set up outside.
And she calls her. Sejong still has her ex-husband's phone. And so she calls her. And she's like,
I just saw what they did to you. I'm so sorry. I don't know what to do to help. But I'm here in any way I can.
and she's like, I saw, she like fills her in on what she's been up to, the baboon stuff.
And she's like, we thought if we killed the CEO, because he was the first one to be infected, that it would stop everything.
But it didn't work.
And here's where they put it together that it must be vaccine guy.
That is patient number zero.
Patient number zero.
And so they're having this conversation while we're seeing vaccine guy being brought out.
He's been drawing all the zombies with them.
They're like not able to obviously cleanly extract him from this building because he can draw all the zombies towards them.
So he's been doing that.
They've been turning the soldiers into zombies.
So now we got zombie soldiers shooting big action set pieces.
is very fun, chaotic.
God.
And they get out of the roof of the building.
And now containment is broken.
There are zombies outside.
Oh, man.
He gets down to the street below and starts, like, moving the, the way that their containment
was, was they had, like, huge buses pressed up against the building.
I don't know.
Oh, I can't remember.
But he's like, he's actively letting the zombies out of the building.
He wants this to go as far and wide as possible.
No miscommunication.
Exactly.
And what a wild takeaway from what happened to your father.
I just really, it's such a leap.
It's such a leap.
I know.
I know the solution.
None of this would have happened.
It's really, really interesting.
It's like, sir, I do see why you lost your job.
Yeah.
Oh, a thousand percent.
Yeah.
So Suu and Sejong are teaming up.
Suuhi is at the like CCTV station where it's been like completely abandoned now.
All the rest of the like higher ups and counterterrorism unit have fled because the zombies are like out in the streets now and they're pretty nearby.
So she has like full control of all the cameras.
So she's like keeping eyes on vaccine guy and directing, uh, Sejong to him.
She finds a car and just speeding through the streets once again.
So he directing her, go left, go right, go here.
And, uh, it is like a pretty cool like car chase sequence.
And she gets to vaccine guy and,
just like plows right at but he jumps out at the last second he doesn't get hit but she's like
pursuing him with car and he is on foot um and so it's a fun like scene of her just continuously
trying to hit him with the car and him dodging it and then pretty quickly he's hive minding
with the hive lady and car attack lady and car she by the way somewhere in here has realized
similar to some other zombie movies.
If she, like, smells like them, they'll leave her alone.
So she's now wearing someone's coat that's, like, covered in mycelium and blood and stuff.
It's nasty.
But, again, vaccine guy sees this and hive minds, the whole mind.
This particular coat is the target.
So go after the coat.
She's out of the coat.
Not the woman, the coat.
I can tell you to ignore the coat, but I can't tell you.
to ignore the code, but I can't tell you to focus on the woman.
I think they can't like recognize faces.
And so just goats.
But they can read.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
They can recognize letters, but not faces.
Yeah, it's real loose.
It's real.
It's fine.
That's fine.
We're going to, we're going to workshop it for the musical.
That's going to be fucking airtight, you guys.
It's going to be absolutely airtight.
We're staying on after this podcast to work it out.
Yeah.
We'll be here as long as it takes.
So she's out of the car now.
They're chasing her.
She takes off the coat and like wraps it around one of the other zombies, like ties it around his head.
And so now all the zombies are going for this zombie.
And they start circling.
And they start going in a big circle pattern all around this guy that they think is the thing that they're after.
But it's not.
And they're confused.
and it's just like drawing more and more of them to this spiral.
Oh.
And she's watching this like, oh my God, it's happening.
They're like short-circuiting.
I did it.
And vaccine guys also watching this like, fuck, fuck.
And he's like trying to communicate with them.
But it's like gaining too much momentum.
You know, it all tracks.
It makes total sense.
He can't break through because they're all too focused on this one thing.
They're thinking too hard.
And eventually it like overpowers the whole.
horde and they all collapse and it like resets them somehow. It like sends them back to their
original form. Like something has blown the network. Not like human form, but like original zombie form?
The first like hands and feet like crawling on all fours again, all the information they had
learned is gone and they're back to dumb zombies. Oh no. And he's going to be,
he's not the type to want to have to teach again. I feel like he's like, oh, brother.
he's like these idiots and she quickly realizes okay this means that they think 2D pictures are humans again
she sees a bus with an advertisement for like a TV show that just is like a bunch of people like
standing and smiling and she's like okay they're going to be drawn to that bus again because they're
stupid again and so she starts moving towards that bus knowing that vaccine guy and the hive will
follow. He's chasing her because he can't
like control them anymore so he like wants to kill her I guess
and as she gets to the bus she like tucks and rolls
under it and he's slammed by the force of the whole
horde behind him like pinned up against the bus that are now like trying to
kill this ad the photo of of humans and well this
seems like a big miscommunications. It seems like kind of like the biggest.
And there's a burning car right next to him.
And he's like slowly pushed onto the burning car.
And he catches on fire.
Oh, killed by his own hoard.
I love it.
He burns to death.
And he dies.
And all the rest of the zombies freeze.
They can't move.
Motionless.
It worked.
Sejun is talking to Sulhi.
And it's like, what about in other places?
Did this work?
And she's checking all the CCTV.
everywhere all the zombies are not moving.
She's like, I think it worked.
It worked 100%.
Wait, but not moving like permanently.
Still alive.
We just have to like.
Well, we don't really know.
We just have to like shoot them all now, I guess.
Fish in a barrel.
Yikes.
And there's been, sorry, I didn't include this before, but they have this talk of like,
we're going to be hated because if we kill the vaccine, everyone's going to be so
mad at us because there'll be no.
to like find a cure to whatever this is, which is presented as like a really difficult position
to be in, but feels very much like a no-brainer of like, well, it does like, unfortunately,
we just have to kill this man.
Like there doesn't seem to be another option.
Right.
But I think the point, or like the, what the movie is trying to do is make it so that
these two women are sacrificing their potential like.
reputations, their success.
To save humanity and that they'll be social pariahs in the aftermath of this.
And Sejong says, it's okay, you don't have to be part of it.
I'm used to everybody hating me.
I can take the blame for this.
And she's like, no, I want to testify with you.
Like, we're in this together.
So Seijun has a friend.
And we like are panning around all the still zombies and like zooming in on one of their faces.
And he like comes back to and he's like, and that's the end of the movie.
It's kind of annoying.
They wanted it too, zombie university too.
Yeah, this is interesting actually.
The whole like social pariah aspect of it that also feels new in a way.
it feels kind of like, like not fully baked.
Yes, everything feels a little undercooked to me.
I mean, those steaks just feel so low compared to like what else is happening here.
I think that it's like a must, it's trying to be a commentary though on also what we, how we turn people into social pariahs and how like we're bad at it.
Well, and women specifically, like women speaking up about men doing bad things.
I think that's the like.
Through line.
It's trying to make, but it's pretty soft, yeah.
Okay.
That's interesting.
Yeah.
I mean, and I really loved these two actors.
I think they're like huge stars in South Korea.
They're by no means like, oh, these new faces on the screen.
Like, but they're really great.
And yeah, I think it's commenting on that, commenting a bit on like AI, hive mind stuff.
But it's just not everything comes together.
as cohesively as as you'd like and it's too long.
Right.
But that said, it's an entertaining watch.
And I enjoyed it.
Zombie flick, which sometimes it can just be that.
It's fun.
I loved it.
Sammy, really fun.
I'm glad you did this one.
Yeah.
Big zombie summer.
Zombie summer.
I tend to enjoy a zombie.
I do too.
Yeah, me too.
I like them.
I wouldn't enjoy it if it were real.
No, no, of course. That's not what I was trying to say. Don't, don't coat me out of context on that one. I meant what a miscommunication.
Safely on screen or on Broadway.
Oh, baby.
I only saw one Broadway show and now she thinks.
I know. It's all I can talk about. It's my entire personality.
There's another South Korean, I think, zombie movie coming out the next week called Hope.
Whoa.
That I'm also really excited for.
It's like, I don't think it is quite zombie.
It's more monster-y, but they played a trailer for it before this one.
And I was like, will I be seeing that as well?
Okay, that's fun.
Great.
Hope movie, 26.
Ooh, cosmic sci-fi thriller.
Uh-oh.
Baby.
Scary.
I'm interested.
And Michael Fastbender and Alicia Vikander are in it.
They're not in the trailer.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay, okay, okay.
I've had seen...
It's based on a video game.
I have seen...
I don't know enough about it to have brought it up.
But the trailer was good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Taylor Russell's in it as well.
Oh.
So...
Interesting.
Yep.
I want to go to Seoul.
I'm going to go to Seoul real bad.
Not if it's a zombie time.
Not like this.
Not like this.
But just does seem really great.
I occasionally think about how wild it is to live in South Korea.
and to be bordering a country that is really crazy.
A country that is so, like, fucked in so many ways.
North Korea and South Korea, I mean, it's just crazy how they're just on the same landmass.
And it's not a big landmass.
Just right over there.
It's really close.
And they're in, like, active war with each other.
They're not like, they're technically at war.
And I don't know.
It's kind of, it would be, I guess you'd, I mean, it's just like how all of us are suspending,
belief living on like a planet that's floating in the middle of space. But that's another level
to a certain degree. You just have to like put it out of your mind. I'm not going to worry about that.
It's all fragile. But I also would like to go to South Korea. Yep. And get all my beauty
treatments done there. I was going to say. We can go there. I'll get glasses. I'll get my scalp. I'll
get my scalp washed. You can't get those things here. I was going to say. They're so cheap. They're so
cheap in South Korea. That's why people, the people will go, I've watched so many TikToks of women doing
this of just getting on a plane going to South Korea for like three days. I thought that it was like for
like drastic plastic surgery. I didn't know that we were going there for glasses. Oh no, I'm sorry. I'm
starting with the most basics. I'm sorry. You get off the plane to go straight and get your glasses.
You get your glasses. Okay. Yeah, you get your glasses first. Because you want to be going to see all of the work
that they're going to have done. Uh-huh. And then you go and they do all this imaging where they tell you how
ugly you are and how horrible your skin. Yes. I need that. They just take.
my flaws. They literally. And they're like, oh, we're going to need to change everything. This is bad. This is bad. This is really bad. You're uglier for someone your age. They say stuff like that to you. You're uglier. You're uglier. You're ugly than you should be less ugly than we anticipated. At your age. You're even uglier than we thought you'd be.
Well, I can't wait. Sign up. I got it. I got to get over there. Sign me up. I never had a Bachelorette weekend.
So we're going to go to Korea and get told how ugly we are for Henley's Bachelorette.
Great.
And we can brainstorm ideas for the musical while we're there.
Perfect.
Okay.
Oh, I love you guys.
I love you so much.
I love Halecella 3 triples is best.
Lentle three triples is best.
And we are past the halfway point now.
Oh, God.
Now that I hate.
But time marches on and there is nothing we can do.
It's true.
Um, I guess I will say in a hive mind.
Yes.
From all of us here.
