Welcome to Too Scary Didn't Watch, the horror movie recap podcast for those Too Scared to Watch for themselves. I'm Emily and I am too scared to watch scary movies. I'm Henley and I'm also too scared to watch scary movies.

And I'm Sammy and I love watching scary movies. And so I watch them so that you don't have to most of the time. that's true. Not today. But not today. And I could not be more excited. I was talking to Emily about how excited I was. Yeah, she's not even lying.

She means I can confirm. Wait, Sammy, have you seen this movie? I have, but it's been a long time. It's going to be like the first time all over again. I have zero info on this movie. I can't wait. It is a classic. I cannot freaking wait.

And if you cannot freaking wait, there are time stamps in the show notes. Because first we have some exciting. Haunted housekeeping as well. Just an exciting day all around. It's huge. I can barely sit down. And we are just announcing Held Chella 3. Once again, we have found a perfect name for it.

Okay. Well, I did rewatch it because I could watch it a million times. I'm trying to decide whether I want to be in on the joke or not for my own thing. It's pretty funny to have you not understand the title. I think that I kind of like that too. And we will be recapping new releases. Well, maybe, you know, mostly new releases, mostly new releases. With a couple of little other little goodies in there.

And that's all the haunted housekeeping for today. So Emily and Henley, can you tell me if anything scary happened to you this week? I just have something like gross to report. Oh, I love that. Which is that I have calluses on the front of my feet. Interesting. Like on top. Like on the top.

From how? From like crawling around on your hands and knees? Yeah, from all the crawling around on the floor that I'm doing. No, because I had a pair of shoes this winter that were like, they were like loafers that I guess created a weird callous on the top of my foot. Yeah. But here's why it's a problem is that now if I put self-tanner, on my foot. Oh, yeah. Which I really need to do. You know, I really need to do in the early summer. It's like, you know, it's pretty dire out here. My feet are terrifying shade of not even like human flesh color. I don't even know what color it is. It's like not. Like one of those sea creatures that hasn't ever like a bit translucent. It's like glowing though. It's like glowing. It's like it's like glowing. It's like that. It's like it. It's a lot. Oh, God. It's her feet. Yeah. Anyway. I have to put self-tanner on it. But then these gallows.

are like, you can't put self-tanner on a calis. Well, you got to put bright orange. You got to treat it like an ankle or elbow and put some lotion on it first. Did you try that? So I tried that and I guess like it doesn't, it's not working. I don't know. So now I have like not only gross like calis is on the top of my foot, but they're also like a neon vibrant orange color that is causing even more people to balk at my feet and slither away from me as fast as possible. So I don't know.

I mean, this is just a weird thing I didn't even know it was possible. I didn't even know you could get a callus on the top of your foot from a shoe. Yeah. I didn't even think about that as an option in my life. And it's happened to me. So it could happen to you. Careful. And just be on the lookout for that.

Yeah. And like calluses on the bottom of your foot, you can like use a pumice. But I feel like top your foot, that'd be owie. That'd be owie. I've like tried to like rub them off and it's not working. They're so strong. Yeah, that's it for me. What about you guys?

At least you can, I guess, wear those shoes in comfort that it's built a little blister-resistant part of your skin, which is a miracle of our bodies. I'll just wear my like platform doc Martin loafers to the beach. There you go. I love that. Just get socks that have foot shapes on them, you know, when you get like a t-shirt. with the bikini body. Yes. Tan foot socks.

With toe socks. Tan foot toe socks. Tand foot toe socks. No one will know. Imagine doing that and thinking you're getting away with it. Well, I, you know. There are like toe caps you can put on over your toes to look like. You know, I hate my toes.

And so I get targeted ads for these toe caps that are like silicone little slips that you just put over each toe. I want to see those because I don't understand. You've talked about these before, and I can't really conceptualize what it is in my mind. Like, I don't really understand. You know the little, like, which fingers you can slide over your fingers on Halloween? Yeah. It's like those before your toes, but not like which, like nice. See, but also like a bald cap, like material.

I thought this whole time, Sammy. Meant to blend seamlessly into the natural toe. Every single time we've talked about this, I thought you were talking about like a fake toenail. I didn't realize they were as well. They have those too. Yeah. So we do both. So we do both.

It depends on the, I don't have the cap. The caps. I'm not actually sure where to purchase them or if they're just works of art on certain people's Instagrams. I haven't actually looked into the purchaseability of them, but I did do the fake toenails. And it kind of fucked up my toenails even more. So I stopped doing them. But it was fun for a while and they looked good. Yeah. Wow. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Fine. Um, scary for me, scary for me, scary for me. Scary for me. Um, I don't know why I'm, like, being cage.

I was like, I don't know if I'm going to talk about it, but I can talk about it because I can talk about whatever I want. I'm moving. Oh, she's moving. My home. I'm moving my home from one home to another. Um, it's still local to Los Angeles, California. But we are moving. It's very wild.

Happened very fast. very exciting, excited about where we're going. But boy, oh boy, doesn't moving just suck. It really does. It's like those things that it's like, duh, yeah, moving sucks. But then you're doing it and you're like, God, this sucks.

And we're doing a really good job. We're taking our time. We have like a month crossover. We've got, we've like built it out. We've gotten rid of things. We've donated things. We've now been like packing slowly and organizing. and we're doing a great job.

But my God, you spend so much time doing so much, and you're like, there's still so much much much much. Yeah. You have so much stuff. There's just so much stuff. And, and, but like a fun and scary part about it is finding things that you're like, whoa, I had that. I've had that for all this time.

So many, like, multiples of things that I was like, oh, like my, triples. Oh, I've had, I mean, I've had triples of a lot of things. I under my bathroom sink like so many like oh I actually guess I bought four let's just say three triples is best yeah refills of my conditioner and I've like had the back here this whole time and I keep just buying more because I think I'm out of conditioner and it turns out I actually have separate like so many versions of that where I'm like I guess I have no idea like what's going on in my own home at all but a really exciting and funny thing that I found you guys the other day that I'm

so excited to share with you is, and apologies, this is a visual. I will describe it afterwards, but in this moment, it's a visual aid. Oh, I found our first ever merch horror movie bingo cards.

And there are three, because triples is best. Triples is best. Those are classic collectibles now. Classic collectibles. And I got to say, Emily used to mail those out individually. I did.

And honestly, probably if you all, if there's people who've been listening since the beginning, like there's, I'm certain and I am, so sorry if this is true. There are probably people who are like, oh yeah, I was supposed to get one of those. And I'm really sorry because we did used to just do all this by hand.

And these have been sitting in a box in my home for years and years and years. And so if I owed you a bingo card, I mean, let me know. I'll do my best, but no promises. Realistically, you're moving. You're not going to send anyone bingo cards anytime. But I was like, there are a lot of them. And I'm like, we should do, we should do something with these someday. They'll come back in some capacity. Maybe the next time we do like a live in person show, you can get a little bingo card. They're fun. They're really cool and fun and I love them.

The thing that was the most annoying about them is that you can't, for bingo cards, you can't really like mass print them because the whole point of a bingo card is they're all supposed to be different. And so I really struggled to figure out a way to produce these in a like time effective way. She didn't have a great job. They're beautiful. But I had to like reshuffle them like by hand on the premiere. She did such a good job.

I just did like 10 of each kind and then would be like, okay, I got to move them around. And then I wouldn't like keep track of how I was moving them around. I was like, what if I'm just moving them back to how they used to taking it? It has our like original font logo that we just like is a font you can just use. It's like, I mean, these are, this is like 2019, I think that these got. made. There's a midsummer version. There's a hereditary version. There's a the lighthouse version. It's really, I found these. It was like, I mean, this is the kind of thing that I completely forgotten about. Yeah. Like what these actually, like, looked like and were. I found a big box

woman. That was really exciting. I got really excited to share them with you. Well, your big box is probably all, they're probably all the same. So unfortunately, we can't play bingo with those cards, right? Because they all have the same thing? Or are they different from movie to movie? They're different from movie to movie. Yeah, the placement is different from movie to movie and they don't all have exactly the same things. No, Tim, you did a great job. Okay, good. I remember really struggling. One of them, which, you know, is, does make sense, is moving to a new house. So, uh-oh. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Or movie bingo. Yep. Uh-oh. That's a classic way to get haunted. Oh, God, oh God.

Yeah. Except you're just, if you find any artifacts, you're not going to mess with them. That's the thing is you know better. If you find any old books. Yeah, don't read anything out. I'm not going to open anything that I'm like, wait, what is this? I don't think we put this. I'm not dealing with that.

I have been watching Widows Bay with Tim and periodically turning to him and saying, if you, You don't know how to fucking exercise a demon if a demon ever enters his house. If I have spent years being married to a priest and you have never even learned how to exercise a goddamn demon, I will be so mad at you. Is he been taking steps to make that a reality? I, he has, remember, he has a mentor at this church who has done amenian exorcism. And I was like, you need to sit down with Terry and get all the time.

Why are we not? Yeah. It's just like Sammy doing her emergency response. training. Like we just need to cover every base. We just need to be prepared. We just need to be prepared. He's going to do it. He knows. Great. He knows. Great. Sammy, anything's care to happen to you this week?

Yes, another, a big change in our household has occurred. Duncan and I got another kitty. Triples his best. You need some girl energy. Yeah, we need to. some girl energy and guess what she's a crazy bitch we love her we love her just how we like um her her name is Reese she's a tortie she's nine months she's the cutest freaking thing is actually crazy god she's so cute oh my god insane how cute she is um and she just hits her brothers like 10 times a

day in the face for no reason good and i've been so proud of them, they really just take it and ignore it and walk away. They're so mature. This is men. This is what we want from men. Yeah. Yeah, men, take note. Take note. From Sammy's two male cats. But yeah, I didn't really think about that they're kind of old men. They're 10. And so they don't have the energy levels to match a kitten, which is, yeah, like duh but I was more concerned just of like introducing cats in general and I was like I know this is going to be tricky and then they're big boys if they wanted to beat the shit on her they're big boys yeah then tick note yeah they are each over 15 pounds she's five pounds so

I think she is scared of them I think that's why she's trying to like set the tone of like don't fuck with me yeah um but they're also like they do have, they've started to have moments of sweetness. Bunk was grooming her the other day. It was really cute. Her and Mack slept near each other, and Mack put a paw on her, and they kind of were, like, sniffing and nuzzling each other's faces. I feel like I saw her psych herself up to, like, move to be closer to him,

but try to act like it was no big deal. I was describing it as, like, you know, in a teenager, yons in a movie to like sneakily put their arm around the person next to them. That was Reese with Mack being like, oh, oh, I'm so tired. I got to lay down right here. I hope, is there anybody here? I can't even look. I'm too tired.

Too tired. And she's really cute. She's a real sweetie. She's very cut. Puddly, but also likes to do everything on her own terms. Like, you can go to pet her and she'll kind of pull away like, what the fuck, don't touch me. But then immediately be like, okay, I'm ready now, now that it's my decision. And, yeah, she's really great.

Mealtimes are are intense. Yeah. Feels like sharks circling their prey. Yeah. When they all fixate on one mission, it is like, oh, my God, oh, my God. There's animals in my house. There's animals in my house. They want something from me.

It can get freaky. Do you have to feed them in different rooms or can they eat eggs to each other? We were at first and sometimes if Reese is being particularly feisty, we'll feed her in a different room. We've started feeding her lunch additionally. So she's getting three meals a day just to like reinforce that there's no food scarcity in the house. She doesn't have to fight her brothers for food. Yeah. Any other tips send them my way.

we've been using Jackson Galaxy introduction techniques. And I mean, she's doing fabulously. She's really like, they all seem pretty chill. She's a real brave girl. Yeah, the boys are annoyed with her for sure, but not like scared of her. They're not, they're not fighting each other. No, they're, but they're pretty, being pretty normal and cool and mature and just like awesome. I think it's nice to get some youthful energy in the room too, you know?

Yeah. It's like, she's such a little cutie. them play as well because they'll like do what they can for a couple minutes and seeing their like little kitten playful spirit come out is really cute and then immediately they're like okay I'm pretty tired now so that's that's it for me that sounds like me when I play with my kids yeah yeah um wow season of change season of change remember how we've only been talking like about how busy we are when we thought, eh, let's throw some more shit in there. Let's move. Let's get a new pet. You know what? Life just comes out your fast. That's right. Speaking of life coming at you fast.

Oh my God. I watched this week's movie, you guys. It's time. Is it time? It's time. Can we talk about it? We are doing gothica. Yes. Oh, cool. So good. Keeping with my love of turn of the century film, I realized I can call it that. It sounds really high brow. Really what I mean is any blockbuster between 1998 to 2005 I'm very into. This movie came out in 2003. And it was directed by Matthew Cassavitz, written by Sebastian Gutierrez, and produced by Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis, and Susan Levin. Susan Levin, now Susan Downey, she met Robert Downey Jr. on this film.

Robert Downey Jr.'s in this movie? Oh, my God. I don't remember anything. All I really remember is the poster and her, like, pressed against the camera. Oh, my God. Oh, so I like know zero about this movie. Zero. Oh, you're about to know everything there is to know. You're about to know everything there is to know. Do I say he was starring it now? I never know the order. Who cares? I'm just going to do it in the order that I wrote my notes in. Also, I just wanted to flag that this was a Dark Castle film, Dark Castle Production Company, which was first founded in 1998 by Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis. And it was formed to remake William Castle horror film. So like House on Hunted Hill and 13 Ghosts.

But they went on, they did like Ghost Ship. Oh, my God. What a fucking. Oh, my God. They did all the orphan movies. they did um so this is just like wow this dark castle production company has brought us so many great thanks you dark castle production company thank you so the budget for this movie was 40 million dollars it made 141 million dollars so it was like it was a success but it was paned critically like

yeah the critics couldn't have hated it hated it hated it they hated it means i'm gonna love it 38% on Metacritic, 5.8 on IMDB, and a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. Owie. It is starring Hallie Berry. Penelope Cruz. Robert Johnny Jr. Wow. And then Charles S. Dutton, John Carroll Lynch, who's such a that guy.

Yeah. Do you guys know who that is? He's like, I try to look up what I know him from. And it's just like, I guess, from every movie I've ever seen I know him from. Yep. He also plays like the same character. He plays a sheriff in this and he plays a sheriff in basically every movie I've ever seen him in as well. He was in Shutter Island, Zodiac, American Horror Story.

Okay. I feel like he's the like warning from a stranger guy. Oh, he's such a good warning from a stranger guy. Now the bingo cards are fresh in my mind. But he's the one to like come in and be like, are you sure things might be bad? Are you like? things are getting scary out there. Trivia.

Okay, you're not going to like this. Well, it was 2003, so. I just have to tell you. Robert Downey Jr. broke Halle Berry's arm during an interrogation scene. Yikes. And his wife said, I got to marry that man. She says that's the man for me. Oh, my God, I got to marry him.

He was supposed to grab her arm and twist it, but I guess he twisted it. too hard and literally snapped her arm in half. So they had to stop filming. They hit a halt production. Can you imagine? That's insane. I'm really alarmed by this. I would be scared of that person then.

Do you know what I mean? Like there would be part of my body that would be like, I don't think I can keep working with the person who just broke my arm. I just don't think I can know. I can't see him again. Yeah. That he can, that this is something this, that is possible. To be, to be fair to Robert Johnny Jr.

Which I don't, I'm not trying to like. Her bones are made class. But Hallibary also is like the teeniest, tiniest, tini, tiny lady I've ever seen. And she looks about 11 years old in this movie. Oh my gosh, she was a child? No, she looks like she's 11 years old. Oh, yeah, because it's 2000. Yes.

I mean, yeah, we were, we were skinny in 2000. and three. Yeah. Yeah, a little malnourish perhaps. Nonetheless, that is not an excuse. You cannot break a woman's arm. No, it's not an excuse. Don't victim blame. It's not an excuse. You cannot break a woman's arm. So she was also inspired to take this role because her mom was a nurse in a psychiatric hospital for decades. The prison scenes were filmed at a penitentiary in Canada that's in Quebec. That was a real prison from 1873 until like, closed in 1979, and it was then used as a site for filmmaking until it was officially closed in 2007 because a lot of dangerous mold was discovered all over the building, which just makes me be like, I want to talk to every single person who filmed a movie here, because clearly they're

filming only scary movies in this location. Yeah. And it was filled with mold. It was filled with mold. Like, that's spooky. Yucky. I don't think I want to watch the trailer until the end. Okay. It's going to tell you literally the entire movie. I don't remember. I don't remember a thing.

And Emily, you've never. No, I got never seen. This is, my mind is a blank canvas upon which, upon which for you to paint. You never see color. It's like dark gray, dark blue, white, just shades of gray, basically. Except Penelope Cruz, so beautiful. Vibrant, nonetheless.

Vibrant, beautiful. She's kind of like emerging from the darkness. And you can see all the lines like around her eyes, like all the wrinkles in her face, like all the imperfections. Do you know what I mean? Like, it's just like, oh, I fucking love this. So she's doing a little, she's doing a little monologue. She's saying, I can't do that I'll be Cruz's voice, but wow, it's so important. Sexy as hell. So important. She's saying, he came back again last night and tore me like paper.

Oh, yeah, the myth. He opened me like a flower of pain and it felt good. Wow. Made me burn from the inside out. So you're like, okay, okay, interesting. And then it goes to Hallie Berry's face. She's talking to her. Hallie Berry looks like an eight-year-old girl.

Like she's like, I'm sorry. Oh my God, she's gotten even younger. She's so beautiful. She's also, I mean, the most beautiful, both of these women, the most beautiful women I've ever seen in my life. She's saying, how did you know it was the devil? Phelope Cruz is frustrated with her and saying, I know what you're thinking.

You think this has something to do with my stepfather because you don't believe in the devil. And Halliberry says, oh, okay, well, let's talk about your stepfather. Helby Cruz says, you know I cut his throat and I watched him die slowly, slowly. And then one tear starts rolling down her face. And she says it was the only way to help him, to help him stop. Penelope Cruz is being manhandled by these guards behind Hallie Berry. Well, Hallie Berry walks, you know, with her clipboard and her high heels, just ignoring what's going on behind her while like the same music for the opening is swelling. we're watching Penelope Cruz fight these guards while just they're walking in the same direction.

So they walk through like one gate, then they walk through another gate, then they're walking through another gate. Like it's like they're in a labyrinth of a prison and it goes on for so long. And finally, again, like it's like not being, it's just like not addressed that this is even happening in the background. And finally they like shove Penelope Cruz into a cell. And when they do that, Hallie Berry like rolls her eyes and goes and says like to herself like she's nuts. And then keeps walking.

And this is, yeah, again, like how they do more of these opening credits. It goes on for so long. She goes through like one gate, then another gate, then another gate. It's going. It's going. It's going. It's going. Finally, she walks out of this prison.

I can't stress how huge this prison seems and how many gates there are. Then she doesn't go outside. She goes upstairs and in the same building, the building turns into like a town hall where no longer it's like cement and gates and like looking like a maximum security prison. Now everything is like mahogany wood grand staircases and like the design of like a courthouse. Okay. this is the same building Sure

She checks in with one Would it kill you to put some mahogany In the high security prison part of the building This building is a big part of this movie Okay Mold everywhere Yeah she basically doesn't go outside So she

She checks in with this one guy They're friendly She tells her like I want to cross-reference some files with you He says make an appointment We'll talk about it on Monday They're friendly Then she pokes her head into another office.

Again, these are offices. It looks like where a judge would sit. Do you know what I mean? Like that's the vibe of the office. He's in like a three-piece suit. And she, you know, knocks on the door. This is Dr. Douglas Gray. This is her husband.

She goes in to talk to him about a status update on Chloe, Penelope Cruz. She sighs. She, like, sits down in a huff. She says, Chloe. Well, she's nuts. Well, she's totally good-go. Chloe's embellishing her rape story again. I'm so confused about who, like, Dr. Douglas Gray is supposed to be.

He's, like, the head psychiatric doctor on staff, but he's also, like, judge. Talking to lawyers and, like, seems like a judge. Wait, does he have the same last name as her? Yeah, they're married. Oh, yeah. So she goes in, she sits down, she says, yeah, Chloe's embellishing her rape story. again. Yikes. She says it's the third time in three months that she claims the devil has visited her. You know, she's wondering that she might be overmedicated. She's not accepting what happened to her.

Instead, she's going into these kind of like fantastical meanderinges. Her husband, he's not concerned. He's saying give it time, give a time. And she says, I have given a time. And I've given her so much medication, lots of it. I think she's just, I think that I need to try something else. So then this man, Dr. Douglas Gray, he stands up. Again, three-piece suit. He walks over to a mirror that's in his office. He takes a crystal decanter of water. He pours a cup of water and he says, come over here, come over here.

So she stands up and he says, you have a brilliant mind. he hands her the glass of water. He says, he turns and they both look in the mirror together while she's holding the water and he says, throw it on the mirror. She does what she said. This is how every conversation between me and Joel goes. Exactly, exactly. Constantly talking to each other through a mirror. Classic married couple stuff. She throws it on the mirror, throws it on her reflection. And he says, this is what Chloe sees now. What? A distorted image of herself. And then he says, who are you? you in all of this.

And then Hallie Berry says, I'm the mirror. And she says, if I'm, if I'm, if I know. Then she says, then she says, if I'm the mirror and she's the image, then who are you? This metaphor is going too far. We've lost it. I'm obsessed with when a movie or a show starts down a track that you're like, and everyone is like, I get it. I get this perfectly.

You're like, no, nah. Like what? What is anyone saying? I really love it. I rewatched it to see if I like missed a key part. This is word for word. No, Hadley, if you're the mirror and she's the reflection and then there, then who's another guy? Then who the hell are you?

And then who are the people standing outside the mirror? She says, then who are you? And then he says, I can see both of you. So I'm God. Oh my God. I was going to as a joke be like, well, he's God. And that's actually what he said. That's what he says. And she thinks it's a hilarious joke. She laughs and she turns around and they embrace. And he says, he says, remember, remember the ability to repress is actually a vital survival tool. Without it, Chloe might not have survived. Then they start to make out so intensely. Yeah. Like they're kissing in a way that I'm just like, oh, God, that's too much. Yeah. And we're at work. Let's

remember. We're at work. And Robert Downey Jr. walks in. He thinks the same thing. He says, knock, knock, am I interrupting? They break apart. They laugh. Dr. Douglas Gray, the husband, he says, I've got to go anyway, no big deal. He grabs like the coat to his three-piece suit. He says, I'm going to go out to Willow Creek. He grabs a few cigars, hands one to Robert Donnie Jr. he says good night boss and he says goodnight kids and then Robert Downey Jr. asks Hallie Berry if he wants she wants to get pizza. She says no, he's like trying to flirt with her. She's saying, no, I'm good.

I've got to work. And he's, you know, he's flirting with her. It's like the vibes are so weird. That's so strange. Yeah. In her husband's office. In her husband's office. They were just faking out.

They're just making out. And then he took cigars. Like, they're smoking cigars. This actually feels like it. And I think you should leave a sketch. It's like hurrying out of your office, handing everybody a cigar. Very, very strange. But she is committed to her job.

She's going downstairs to keep working. There's a thunderstorm that's starting. It's turning to rain. Lightning is flashing. Have we... Do we say where this is set? Does it matter? No, it never says.

Well, I don't think it does anyway. Whatever rain happens in a movie, I'm like, where could it possibly be? You're like, not Southern California. Where does it rain? Not here, of course. Also, she goes down into the basement where her office is. Which is like another thing where I'm like, her husband's office on the top floor. And is the basement below the prison or in sandwiched in between?

We don't know. Well, no, you're going to get even more confused in a second. I could just wait. Okay. So she's in. She's in a basement office. It's cement down there. Okay.

We're in cement land. We've moved out in mahogany land. And she's working on her computer when lightning flash power cuts out. Oh, God. No more power, dark, completely pitch black. She goes out in the hallway. She's literally completely pitch black except for one kind of flashlight in the distance. And she goes, Eileen, is that you?

and the woman with the flashlight gets closer. Yes, it's a nurse. An older woman in a classic nurse outfit. Again, I'm also just like... Like a little triangle hat kind of vibe. Yeah, like the white dress and the white tights and the heels. Well, that's what we wore in 2003. Yeah, I don't know.

And Eileen is going, it's this damn electrical system. Fourth time this week. And... You really don't want your electrical grid to keep failing at a high security bridge. son. No. And so then Halliberry says, she goes, all right, well, I'm just going to go for my swim. It's like it's like it was written by Madlibs. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or it's like I'm going to go for my insert verb here. Swim. So cut to Halliberry in a pitch black indoor pool. Oh God. Oh, no. No. Again, no lights. The only light is coming from like the lightning flashing outside.

Oh my God. I would never. No. Just doing laps in this maximum security prison courthouse pool that exists somewhere. Wow. She does her swim. She gets out. She, you know, walks out and passes by a security guard. They're very friendly. He's saying, how many laps tonight, Doc? And she says, 55 and he says wow and she says tell your wife i say hi and he says we'll do and then she gets in her car to drive home still raining thundering i really thought she was going to live like go to a little bedroom in this prison somewhere i know i know start getting ready for bed um but as soon as she starts driving she gets stopped there are a bunch of police in the middle of the road there is a huge sinkhole so she has to take a detour oh sinkholes are so scary sinkholes are so scary don't like The sheriff comes by to talk to her.

The sheriff is the back guy that I mentioned. What's his name again? John Carroll Lynch. Sheriff, he's telling her, you know, you go around, take that little bridge where Doug and I go fishing sometimes. Like, tell Doug to call me. So he's friends with her husband. She, you know, turns her car around. She tries calling Doug to tell him that she's going to be a little late.

The judge being buddy buddy with the sheriff. I don't love it. I know. But she doesn't have a good signal, so it keeps cutting out. She has to go over this tiny little wooden bridge. And she's trying to call Doug and she's going over the bridge. And there is suddenly a jump scare, as you would expect in this moment, where there is a girl in a nightgown, a nasty nightgown standing in the middle.

of the road, shivering, shaking. She, Halliberry swerves the car, goes into a ditch. She's okay. She gets out of the car, goes up to the girl who's still there. She approaches her from behind. When she finally gets in front of her, she can see that this girl's face is like all beat up and she has cuts all over her. And she starts taking off her coat. Does this girl look like she's of this era? Yeah. Okay. She has, she isn't a nightgown, though.

So she could be of any era. Yeah, because they're timeless? Yeah, kind of a timeless look, actually. Effortless. She is very effortless. She is blonde hair. You can't get a good look at her face. It's all wet and in her face.

But Dr. Miranda Gray starts taking off her coat. She's saying, I'm a doctor. I'm a doctor. I'm going to help you. Let me help you. I'm going to take you to the ER. Let me take you to the hospital. Then the girl is shaking.

She starts screaming. And then the girl goes up in flames. Oh, oh. And it's only for one second, but it kind of looks like Dr. Miranda Gray also goes up in flames. But it's only for a split second. Cut two. Dr. Miranda Gray. Back in the pool.

Waking up. Her hair is a mess. Her face is all sweaty. she's looking around confused, doesn't know where she is, slowly stands up, gets out of bed, walks, and we realize she is in a glass cage in an observational unit of this massive jail hospital courthouse place. Oh, she's in the prison, just in a different part of the prison. Yes, so now she is locked up. Mm-hmm.

Yes. She doesn't take this well. She starts screaming immediately. As you would. As you would. Hi, I'm Beck Bennett. I thought I was Beck Bennett. No, no, no, no.

She's saying, you better tell me why I'm in here. And Robert Johnny Jr. is telling the guards to restrain her. He's telling the nurse to give her 40, milligrams of Atavann, which I'm pretty sure would kill you. It's like so much out of van. Especially a woman of her size. Yeah. So they restrain her. They give her a dose of Atavan, which she's still lucid, but I don't know. Takes you right out of it. She's very, takes all of us out of it. We know exactly. She's like, way too much. She's like, I feel fine now.

everyone else leaves it's just the two of them in her cell Robert Johnny Jr. is being Robert Johnny Jr. saying things like Miranda this is very awkward I know and I technically shouldn't be treating you but I got the court to grant us a waiver. I'm just going to treat you until you get transferred. Everything you say is in his confidence. Yeah, you're so hot. She says how long have I been in here? He says three days. she says why and he says well you were admitted to the neurological unit because you were seizing violently we did scans and there was weakness in your left brain and he said you were negative

for PCP so I don't know we don't know what it is that's that's the only thing they tested this is this this like do we lock you up in a big glass box this is what's so funny about it is it's delivered in this way it's like it's like delivered in this way of like I'm a doctor saying these doctor things but then when you actually write down what he's saying, it's like, a weak left brain and negative for PCP. So who knows? He said, we had to keep you in restraints so you wouldn't hurt yourself.

And then you're catatonic. Where's my husband? It does sound like the sort of thing you would write in like a first draft and with like a little asterisk of like do research. Do research on medical stuff and come back and fill this in. And then they would actually do. And then they bought the script as it was. And you went, well. I guess. I don't have to do any research. If he just says it like in his normal Robert Tynie Jr. way, you kind of are like, okay. Whatever. Sure. She says, I want to talk to my husband. Where is he? And he says, you're the most rational person I know. You rely on the facts. And he says, why am I telling you this? And she says, you're establishing my personality. You don't think I'm impulsive or emotional. And then they start saying the next part,

together because remember she's a doctor. So they would all doctors would say the same thing in this situation. And then they say together, we're about to analyze a traumatic event that makes these personality traits useless. And then she says, you think I'm in denial. And he says, you have to just focus on remembering what happened. He says, Miranda, what was the last thing you remember? So basically also the entire argument is that like she's gone crazy because her brain doesn't want her to remember what actually happened. And that causes like psychosis. Is I suppose like the thesis of all of their psychiatry, which I don't know whether that's seems dubious. There's any reality to that or not. But that's what they're really, everything hinges

on that idea in this movie. She says, I remember Chloe. So she remembers Penelope Cruz. How could you not? How could you forget? And she just walks through it. She's saying, She was embellishing her rape story. She said, when I saw Doug. What I do remember. She was embellishing a rape story again. Is that crazy bitch embellishing her rape story? Good Lord.

Then I saw Doug. You were there. We made out. I went back to my office. I went down to the pool. I had a swim. I love this. She's just like, so here's the things you've seen so far in the movie.

Exactly. And then and then. We're like, check. Yes. Check. Okay. We remember that too. She seems rational.

So she seems rational. And then she says, but there is a detour. So I had to go over the bridge. And then she suddenly stops. And Robert Johnny Jr. is going, try to remember. Try to remember. She says, I got home. I saw Doug.

He was on the couch. Try to remember. Try to remember. And she says, there was a girl on fire? Well, then she says, there was a girl. And Robert Jeter says, no, there was no girl. And then she says, there was some kind of accident. And he said, no, no.

No, no, what's, what do you remember about Doug? No, no, you're getting wrong. Stop it. I remember for you. And he's saying, what's the last thing you remember about Doug? And then he says, was there any trouble in your marriage? And she says, no. And then she says, why are you using the past tense?

And he says, you don't remember anything about Doug. You don't remember, I don't know, killing him or anything like that. And she's going, leading the witness. she's going no no no no no no no no no she's starting to like realize something really bad happened he says i have to tell you something very difficult and she's starting to like scream and cry and he says miranda dug is dead you killed him so he restrains her the guards come back in they pump her full of drugs makes more sense why she's in there now Yeah, she's screaming, I didn't do it, I didn't do it. She passes out from all the drugs,

starts having some crazy flashbacks, you know, like blood splatter, stabbing, some neon lights, and then wakes up in her cell. Fluorescent lights are flashing. She looks out at her glass, or glass gauge. And all of a sudden there's like breath that appears on the glass. Like someone is breathing on it. And then starts writing in the glass, not alone. And then she kind of hears breathing. It feels like someone's in there with her.

And she's saying, I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming. This isn't real. I'm dreaming. I'm dreaming. She's like holding her head and looking down and saying, I'm dreaming. dreaming, I'm dreaming. And then suddenly it's the daytime and the nurse is there. And she's saying, rise and shine, honey. I want you to have some breakfast. She hands her her pills. And same nurse from

earlier. She's saying, Eileen, why are you doing this to me? She says, oh, honey, I'm just doing my job. Take the pills. So she takes the pills. And now it's time for her shower. These women are showering arm to arm. They are shoved in there tightly. All of them are naked. Penelope Cruz is there. This is the most long, unnecessarily long. This is such a 2003 fucking movie scene.

Yeah. As many naked bodies as we can fit in here. Let's see them all. And all of, all of them are like gorgeous stunning models. Gorgeous stunning models in the psychiatric unit. Bitches be crazy. It was. It was like all dripping wet, taking showers, slow motion.

God, the women's psychiatric unit is so hot. It's so fucking hot. She is getting spooked though. She's like naked walking through all these women showering spots Penelby Cruz. Obviously, this is a conflict of interest. It's like you cannot put this woman in the same prison with the prisoners. She was just interrogating and accusing of embellishing a rape story. There's only one building.

I know. there's only one building in this whole world. It contains everything. Penelope Cruz starts looking at her. She's getting spooked. All the other women starts staring at her. Then she starts to have some kind of like actual psychosis where the women's faces start changing shape. I'm pretty sure this is like the pills she just took is just making her.

Elucinate a little. Elucinate. And then she sees the girl from the road is in the shower with them. She starts not... Naked, I hope. No, I don't think she's naked. But she is wet. And she is around a bunch of naked adults.

Mm-hmm. And she, the girl from the road runs up to her with some kind of knife and starts, like, slashing at her. And she kind of puts her arm up to protect herself. And we got a better look at her tips. Yeah. We don't see any. We don't see any boobs. Oh, wow.

Anyone starts cutting her? In this whole scene? That's a good... Because that changes things for me. You must see a boob or two. I'm sure you're seeing boobs. Just no Penelope or Hallie. No, none of that.

No A-list boobs. No A-list boobs. Okay. So she's been slashed by the nightgown ghost. Then she is in some kind of medical bay. Has she been actually slashed? there's a nurse consulting with Robert Johnny Jr. She's saying, I just looked away for a second.

And Robert Johnny Jr. is saying it's not your fault. The patients always find some way to hurt themselves. And then the doctor comes in and is like, she's a mess. She's like, I can't believe she lost it that fast. I've never seen anyone go crazy that quickly before. And this is medically speaking. This is very unprofessional doctors. All this is delivered.

To be clear, all this is delivered very seriously. Like, it's like, they are... Like, in my professional medical opinion, I've never seen anyone go crazy so fast. Yeah, he's like, I've never seen anyone lose it that fast before. Again, this has the like asterisk next to it of like, come back and rewrite this in a more medical-sounding way. Never happened. Like, what would a doctor actually say?

I just got massively jump scared because my water bottle lid, like, popped open and made a sound. And I truly was like, oh. That is kind of scary. Is there a carbonated beverage? in there? No, I just think it didn't latch fully. Or there's a ghost inside my water bottle. So the doctor is saying she cut herself 35 times. Oh, my God. She says she lost a lot of blood, but the cuts are all superficial. And Robert Johnny Jr. says, what was the instrument used? And he says, a scalpel, not try how anyone got that in the here, but what are you going to do? What are you going to do?

So then Rwajah Dynar Jr. goes in to talk to her. He's supposed to be taking her blood pressure. I saw in the trivia that like, or one of the goofs is like he does this completely wrong too, which is pretty funny. It's also like I'm so confused about what kind of doctor they are because it seems like they're psychiatrists, but then they also do blood pressure and stuff, which feels like not the same kind of doctor. Also just like this is such an insane way to treat someone who had. no, like was acting completely normally a mere, you know. Her left brain is weak, Kenley. So take that into consideration. And so, you know, Holly Berry is trying to have a kind of Jesus moment with him. She says, you think I did this to myself, don't you? And he says, well, did you?

She says, no. And he says, there she goes, embellishing her stabbing story again. Exactly. Exactly. And he says, you know, by your own admission, you can't distinguish between reality and fantasy. And then she says, well, since I'm hallucinating, maybe you can help me remember things. Did we ever have an affair? And he says, no. He says, I fucking wish. And then she said, did you want to? And he said, he says, yes. And then she says, well, this would not be my first couple questions to him. Nope. And she says, well, why didn't we? And he says, because you're married to the boss.

And she says, but I'm not now. Oh, my God. And he says, I'm just trying to help you. Why don't you trust me? And then she says, you can't trust somebody when they think you're crazy. And she has one single tear going down her face just like Penelago. She's inside and outside the mirror. Oh, she's the mirror.

Oh my God, the mirror. It all makes perfect sense. I know. I know it's coming together brilliantly. Then she has a meeting with her other friend who's a lawyer, Teddy. At first I thought she was calling him Daddy when we were the first like that was going to see. That would really, I feel like strangely fit in Daddy. Everything else that has happened.

She rushes into the room and she goes, Teddy, Teddy, Teddy, like. Teddy, Teddy, Teddy. I'm not. They're treating me like I'm crazy. And she like embraces him. And I really, I was like. oh, this is her dad. Okay.

I wrote in my notes like, daddy, daddy. And then I realized that halfway through. Daddy, daddy, daddy. Okay, no. Her friend. And he's going, let's not talk about what happened. Let's just talk about what I can do to help you now. It's like, Miranda, the evidence is overwhelming.

Things are not looking good. They've got the murder weapon. They've got your prints on the weapon. The sheriff himself saw you going home. like all this stuff. And she says, but what's the motive, daddy? What's the motive? I have no motive. And he says, the only shot we have is claiming temporary insanity. That's like our best shot. And she says, do you think I'm crazy? And he doesn't respond, but clearly he does. And she's like, okay, fine, forget it. You know, you don't believe me either.

and just then the sheriff comes in. The sheriff walks in, sits down at the table with them, and he says, Miranda, I just have a few questions that I need to clear up. He's clearly, really upset. He has a folder in front of him, and he says, he's looking at it, and he says, the first blow came in front of him. He must have seen it coming. What we don't understand, what we don't understand. And then he starts crying. He says, how could you do it, Miranda?

How could you do it? He loved you. He loved you. He loved you. Everyone is so bad at their job. Oh, my God. And her lawyer, her lawyer, daddy, Teddy is saying, you don't have to answer. You don't answer. And she's like, I don't have any answers, Bob. Like, I don't know what happened. And then he says, you need to look me in the eye and tell me how you could kill my best friend. And then he throws the picture. of the crime scene down in front of her. Unbelievable. She starts looking at them. It's blood everywhere.

Blood massacre. So much blood. Blood massacre. She's seen her like brutal killing of her husband. Obviously very shaken by this. And the sheriff is going, I had to pick him up off the floor, Miranda. I had to pick him up off the floor. And then her lawyer says, Miranda, what's that?

And she looks down and her bandage from earlier is bleeding. And it's bleeding profusely through the bandage all of a sudden. She takes the bandage off and she sees on her arm. It's written not alone. So whoever did all the scalpel stabs wrote, not alone. In scalpel? And then as she sees that on her arm, she sees in the crime scene photo, not alone is written in blood on the wall of the crime scene photos.

Well, this doesn't look great for her. And so she starts screaming and crying and thrashing around. I don't know if there's like a better way for me to describe how much screaming and crying and thrashing around happens. I'm loving that happens over and over again. The guards rush in. They sedate her again. While she's out, she has more flashbacks from the scene. the crime. We're seeing bloody handprints. We're seeing writing on the wall. We're seeing Doug

screaming. We're seeing her walking through the rain. We see her picking up an axe. We see her on the road. And it's like all kind of going backwards, these flashbacks up until when she first sees the girl. And then it kind of like starts going forward again. And we see her take her coat off, give it to the girl, the girl go up in flames, and then go into her mouth. Oh my God. Okay. So she's not alone inside her body. So then the girl is, and you see Hallie Berry like her head go back, snap back. Sure. And like her like whole like face kind of go up in flames and then like all settle down and she's normal again. Uh-huh. And. And wake up, then she wakes up.

She has gone to see the first guy, another doctor, the other doctor that she's popped into in the beginning, the one she was like going to see on Monday, she goes to see that guy. I can't even remember his name. She's a mess. She's with Robert Downey Jr. He's like her handler, I suppose. So she requested to go see this man. she is crying so depressed and she goes there to like admit that she did it basically she's like I was there I was there when Doug was killed I was there and then she goes off script and she says

but I wasn't alone I wasn't alone there was someone else there and Robert I didger's like no there wasn't Miranda and the the doctor guy is going Miranda we know you have no family left We're your family now. And I want you to know that we're going to do everything we can to help you and make you feel secure. And, you know, you can trust us here. And she is starting to hear whispers, whispers, whispers, whispers, whispers, whispers, whispers. And she looks behind the doctor man and she sees a picture of a girl in a frame that's in a box. Somehow she sees it.

Packed up in a box, but somehow she sees it. And she's blonde. She's in a school girl uniform. She looks familiar. Miranda stands up. Who's that? Who's that girl? And she starts walking behind the desk and she grabs the frame and she's holding up.

She's going, who's this girl? Who is she? And the doctor guy goes, that's my daughter, Rachel. She goes, this is the girl. This is the girl that I saw on the bridge. Where is she? Where is she? And he's going, that's impossible.

Yeah. She's dead. Can you believe it? She died four years ago. And that's taken as a real shock. That's like dead daughter's photo you're grabbing and screaming at. Actually. I know.

It's just one reason why this movie is so amazing is because it's like every move that you know is going to happen happens. You're like that's amazing. Amazing. Like a love to see it. We love Pat. I love these. And I love to see the patterns pattern.

If they're broke, don't fix it. Don't fix it. We're back in her little glass cage. The lights are really flickering now, making so much noise. Suddenly they stop flickering. She sits up in bed and she starts a little monologue. She's saying, I'm a rational person. I believe in science.

I don't believe in the paranormal and I don't believe in ghosts. But if I did believe in ghosts, and if the ghost of Rachel Parsons happen to be here. And you let me out of the cell, then maybe I could, in one second, the door opens. Like as soon as she says that, the door just opens. Wow. Okay. Well.

She runs out. No one else is around. Okay. Straight to the pool. Got to get her laps. Got to get her laps. Got to get her laps. She steals like a key from a janitor's cart and breaks into Robert Dine Jr.'s office.

and goes through like his computer and sees that, or maybe she breaks into her own office, I don't know. But she sees a news article that says local girl committed suicide, Rachel Parsons committed suicide. So she looks up that article. She also is looking at security footage of the prison. And suddenly she sees Rachel standing in the solitary confinement, unit, which is where they're holding Chloe, Penelope Cruz. So she suddenly gets worried for Chloe.

She runs to the solitary confinement unit. Again, lights are flickering, flickering, flickering, in a way that kind of made me feel nauseous. She gets the solitary confinement unit. The lights suddenly stop flickering. And Halliberry looks through the window into Penelope Cruz's cell and jump scare Penelope's face like slams right up into the class. She's screaming. Then we see a tattoo right up on the window. It looks like it's on like a man's chest, maybe. And she screams and runs away. The guards catch her. Like they basically close-liner. She goes down real hard. There's like so much Halliberry screaming running, getting the guards. The guards catch her. Like they basically close-liner. She goes down real hard. There's like, there's like, so much Halliberry screaming running, getting like thrown on the ground by huge guards in this movie.

She's already broken her arm. Oh, that already happened? Yeah, I was actually wondering when the arm breaking exactly would have happened. Ow, ow, ow, ow. I hate it. But I don't know. She's screaming. She's saying, check on Chloe.

Chloe's not okay. Check on her. Check on her. She's not okay. Cut to her back in herself. Robert Downey Jr. comes in. She's saying, did you talk to Chloe? And he says, um, no, why?

And she goes, she was raped. He goes, no, I don't know. She goes, did you check on her? He goes, oh, yeah, yeah. And she goes, what about her face? And he goes, oh, she did that to herself. She goes, I saw a tattoo. She's also so calm.

He's like so condescending and such an asshole. And she like does not, it doesn't get to her at all in the scene in a way that like it really got to me. I was like, I can't believe how calm you're being in the face of Robert Downey Jr. there's like pure condescending assholery, but whatever. It sounds like she's been like freaking out in every other interaction with someone of power. Yeah, you're right. So that she'd do something different. Yeah, maybe she's changing tactics here.

Yeah, different tack. She says, what about a tattoo? I saw a tattoo of a woman hands up burning in flames. The tattoo is a woman with her hands up burning in flames. And he goes, the anima sola. She says, And she says, yeah, the animasola. I saw the anima sola.

And he goes, well, that's a common archetypical image. Yeah, we all know it. And she goes, no, no, it was a tattoo. I saw it on the chest of a man. And he says, you're in crisis. Can you see how this image is tailor made for you? Show me your chest, Robert. Yeah, it's tailor made for your state of mind.

A woman in purgatory. Come on. Miranda. She says Rachel Parsons did not commit suicide and then they get in an argument. There's a lot of cross talk. She's not following that train of thought anywhere, huh, about what Rachel Parsons did? Yeah. Oh, no.

She's not putting two and two together there. No, no, no. She's. That might have happened? No, she's not thinking straight. Because that's the first thing I thought of. She's not thinking of. Which I'm guessing will be the big review.

Might be the thing. It might be the thing. And no, she hasn't gotten there yet. And she's, she, oh yeah, he's saying, you know, the coroner, the investigator, the lawyer, they're all wrong. They were all wrong about Rachel Parsons. She's saying, yes, I saw her. She was beaten up. She didn't commit suicide.

And he's saying, you're going to the psych ward, which I guess she wasn't in the psych ward before. Where the hell of my business whole time? I don't know. And then he says one strike and you're going to solitary confinement. So don't screw this up. Prison source. So then she's in the psych ward, which is I guess different than where she was before because this time they have outside time. It's better than where she was before. She's in like a jail yard. Yeah, she's in a jail yard. And the costuming here is so good. The costume mean is they're all just in like shades of gray, but it's like brand new gray clothing. So they're wearing like a brand new gray cardigan. and like a brand new dark gray t-shirt. And it's like meant to look like shabby psychiatric ward fair or whatever, but they're all in a different clothes.

Like they're not, there's like not like a uniform. But it's like everything is a various shade of like a mandatory color. Like the cleanest never been worn brand new gray clothes you've ever seen. And it's like it's school spirit day and it's gray day and everybody had to go out and buy brand new grays. Exactly. Exactly. So that was throwing me off for some reason. So she's outside. She sees Penelope Cruz in the distance. Wind is blowing. Penelope Cruz has cuts all over her face. She's been beat up. And, you know, Dr. Miranda Gray and all of her grace approaches her. And she says, I'm sorry. She apologizes to her. She says, I'm sorry. And she says, but you need to tell me. Tell me what happened. Tell me what happened to you. You can tell me anything. Like, who is he? Who, who is coming to your cell? Who did this to you? And Penelope Cruz, like, won't tell her. Well, yeah, you've, like, made her feel like shit every other time she's confided in you. So, yeah. Yeah. She says, he can, she says, I'll tell you one thing. He can have my body, but he will never have my soul. Never.

He's the devil. And then she grabs Halliberry and whispers into her ear. He said, you're next. Then Hallie Berry is back in her cell. This time it is so much worse than the glass cell. It's windowless. It's the darkest place you've ever seen. There's no lights at all except for some random fluorescent buzzing ones like in various

hallways flicking on and off. And then, you know, I don't know, she sees Rachel. Rachel shows up in her cell and attacks her. Starts throwing her around the room. Okay. The guards are not paying attention. They're watching a movie. And until one of them kind of sees in the security footage, Dr.

Gray. launching herself around the room, looks like she's doing it to herself. One of them says, suicidal behavior. We need to go, Dr. Mariner Gray. So whatever. Yeah. So they rush in. The room is destroyed. She's like destroyed the bed. There's not much to destroy, but everything is, the bed is destroyed. Everything is like ripped up and thrown everywhere. they try to sedate her, but she somehow, like, gets past them and grabs some keys and escapes. Okay. And starts running.

So we get more of this. She runs all over this place. She avoids the guards at every turn until she ends up in her pool area. Nice. And she slips into the pool. Of course. A perfect place to hide. A pool all the way to the bottom.

Crystal clear water. Sinks all the way to the bottom. It's like a kid's logic where it's like, well, if I can't see you, you can't see me. And my eye is close under here. So my kids hiding in a hedge and I can see them perfectly. So, yeah, but it works. The guards don't see her. They don't see her.

They go right past her. She, of course, sees Rachel down there, screams, goes up, but the guards are gone by then. Now she is very wet and running some more. And she runs past the security guard, who was her friend in the beginning. And this time, he helps her. He covers for her. He tells the guards that he heard something in a different part of the wherever they are. and it gives her keys to, I think, his car.

Oh, my God. That's a lot of help. You know. It helped her so much. And if you, if, if this was really happening and you were this man, I actually think that's, like, really irresponsible and bad. You don't, you shouldn't help, like, an actual psychiatric or, like, a murder, someone who's, like, been accused of murder.

You shouldn't help them escape. I suppose you could, like, I'm down with being like, she's not here, but to be like, take my car. Here's the keys to get out of the building and. And my property. Here's the keys to my property that will now be linked to you. Yeah. Maybe it's a different car.

Maybe it's like a guy he doesn't like. Maybe it's a piece to the car of a guy he doesn't like. It could be that. Yeah. But then she's in a car and she's driving away. And I was like thrilled to get out of this freaky huge building. I miss it. Yeah.

I like that. Of course she sees Rachel in her backseat. There's a jump scare. Rachel's like how old? She's like a teenager. We never really get a good look at her except for in that photo. And she's like 17 probably. So old enough.

Oh, yeah. What does that mean? I don't know. What are we about to reveal about her, you know? And she, so many things happen. So like as she loses control of the car, the car starts going 100 miles per hour. The brakes aren't working. Oh my God.

It's just going, you know, at its own speed. There's a truck. Okay, okay. There's a truck speed. She didn't accelerate to 100 miles per hour. No, she didn't accelerate. It's like the cars, you know, it's doing all the ghost things. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

There's a big scene with a truck going down a highway really fast. Oh, God. Is she going to hit the truck? Is she going to hit the truck? Is she going to hit the truck? No, she doesn't hit the truck. She just barely misses the truck. But she does end up right back at that sinkhole.

Don't worry the sinkhole. has nothing to do with anything, but she's back at the scene of the crime. There's just a memorable spot. It just a memorable moment. And then she's screaming and she's saying, what do you want from me? What do you want from me? Then the car stops and it starts playing a fun song for no reason. Again, just like a random song that's really fun.

And I say in my notes, look up the name of this song. I forgot to look it up. Don't remember what the song is. But it's fun. It's fun. The tone kind of changing. and she drives on calmly and without incident. And she drives to her house.

She's looking at her house from a distance from the car and she see the porch light just turn on. She goes inside. It's not marked as a crime scene. I was going to say, yeah. Interesting. Immediately confused by that. Not marked as a crime scene. There's like fruit rotting in their house, flies buzzing around.

We see a bloody. handprint on the stairs and she starts walking up the stairs, sees more blood all over the carpet. She starts hearing Doug's voice going, please, no, Miranda, please, no, no. Then she sees herself with an axe. She sees herself lifting up the axe and whispering, I love you before bringing it down. There's not she sees the not alone, which is written on their bedroom door. She goes into their bedroom. She hears water in the tub in the bathroom off their bedroom.

She goes in. She sees that the tub is filled with water, bloody water, and there's a body in it. And then she goes and looks and it's her. It's naked ghost Halliberry body. in the bloody tub. And then she gets up out of the tub. The ghost version gets out of the tub. The ghost version.

And then she's looking at herself in the mirror. It all comes back. And then she's shapeshifting into Rachel and then shapeshifting back into Halle Berry and then shapeshifting into Rachel. Which one? The ghost one? Yeah, they're kind of all shapeshifting into each other screaming. And then she snaps out of it. And she looks at the tub again and there's no water.

in the tub and not even a drop of water. It's dry. It's been dry this whole time. Wow. She starts looking at old pictures of her and Doug. She's screaming, sobbing, why? Why, why, why, why me, why me? She's looking at one picture of a place called Willow Creek and her nose starts bleeding just at that moment. I love the trope of knowledge makes your nose bleed. Yep, and then drop of blood. lands right on the picture she touches it she thinks of something and then she goes back to the car she's going to willow creek now willow creek feels like she shouldn't be driving on these hallucinogenic drugs yeah well you know what else she gonna do um she willow creek is just an abandoned old house like a creepy abandoned old house okay um that's all that it is and it's kind of like hmm

Wow, if my husband remember in the beginning how he was going to Willow Creek, he's like, I'm off to Willow Creek. Remember how? Oh, yeah. Remember that? Yeah. If my husband was constantly going to this creepy old abandoned house. What was he doing there? Yeah.

Yeah. Hey, Rachel, what was he doing there? Yeah. So she goes over there. She's looking through the windows. I guess she doesn't have a key to this creepy old abandoned house. Oh, well, that's just my husband's house. That's just my husband's old abandoned house.

He likes to go to. That's just my husband's house that he goes to. He smokes cigars. And that's all I need to know. Probably fine. Then next to the house, there's an old barn. She doesn't need a key for her. She goes inside.

She walks around. There are wind chimes. It's spooky. It's very dark. It's filled with a bunch of old junk. She's looking around. There's a jump scare. An owl flies down at one point.

And she's about to leave when she spots something. That kind of stands out amongst all the old junk. It is a newish, 2003-esque-looking box for a digital camera. She goes over to it. It's right next to a door, a trap door in the ground. I love a place that's just full of clues. Yep. Door and the floor.

She walks towards it, music building, opens it, stairs. goes down into the basement. It's not. It's, you know, it's not what you want to find. No, yeah.

It's not what you want to find. Yeah. What is it? Well, it's plastic sheeting. Oh, no. That's a bad,

bad, oh, God, it's getting worse. It's a bed with some shackles on it. Oh, some blood, some blood all over the sheets. Yeah,

really. But all over the sheets, but over the pillows. And a, a camera. No. Facing towards the bed. Honestly, I think you've just described the single worst room to discover.

Oh, yeah. Yep. It's kind of as bad as it gets. That is truly as bad as it gets. Yep. And there's also a lot of medical equipment because remember they're doctors. Oh, God, what kind of fucking doctors are they? I don't know.

He's also a judge. Yeah. There's too many things. Oh. Also, there's this camera. Uh-uh. And she goes over to the camera. Yeah.

A looks at it. Presses play. Yeah. She sees her husband in his three-piece suit. Yeah. He's like shackling up a woman. And he's saying, I'll see you in a couple of days. And then he goes to turn the camera off.

And he says into the camera, it's good to be God. Oh. Oh. Oh. Well, nice and he was like, let me get my face nice and clean and crisp on film for this. Oh my God. Just then the police arrived. They've tracked her to Willow Creek.

Okay. Honestly, I'd be like, great, guys, you got to come see this. You can't believe what I just found. She's trying to hide from them, but she's like trying to cower by the stairs. But just then there's a jump scare and two like bloody arms. arms come out and grab her from behind. And it's the girl from the video. And she's screaming and going, help me, help me, please. So then we cut to a press conference with the sheriff. Um, he's acting annoyed by all the questions. It's so funny. He's like so obviously

annoyed by the reporters asking these questions. Um, he's like, all I can tell you is the girl is Tracy Sever. Look, that was my best friend. I'll never judge my best friend. She was found alive. She was found alive on Dr. Doug Wilson's farm. She's been missing for two weeks. Okay, no more questions. All right. That's it. What else do you want to fucking know? All right? She's alive. It's fine. She's alive. He goes back inside the police station. Robert Johnny Jr. and Teddy, not daddy, Teddy the lawyer are there.

The sheriff is saying they still have her locked up. Like they have her locked up in jail. And Robert J.R. Jr. and Teddy are like, she's innocent. Like, you need to let her go. And the sheriff is saying, your client broke out of jail. She harmed several guards. She broke into a crime scene. We didn't have a labeled as such.

Yeah. And then Robert Johnny Jr. is like, she also. saved a girl. She saved a girl's life. And the sheriff is like, well, how did she know that the girl was down there? Tell me that. And I guess it's also like, well, still who murdered Doug? Yeah. Well, yeah. And so they're saying that's not the point. And then there are there. Then, okay, so then my notes kind of deteriorate a little bit at this point. But the sheriff goes in to the sheriff goes in to talk to her

and in her cell and the main thing the main thing is that just tell us the main thing yeah the main the main thing to know is that

we lost it lost the main thing I've had this before where the end is just like what did I read? She has some kind of revelation.

Got it. And she calls Robert Downey Jr. And says, she has a phone in there? She gets a phone call. She gets one phone call. They let her have a phone call. She says, it's finally clear to me that the man who is raping these women at the jail is somehow connected to what's going on.

It's finally clear to me. With Rachel Parsons, it all has to do with the anima sola tattoo. It all comes down to the anima sola tattoo. I wonder who has to have. Has it? And Robert Downey Jr. Who could have it? Robert Downey Jr. says, I don't believe in ghosts.

And then she says, neither do I, but they believe in me. Oh, wow. And then the guard puts her back in her cell. And she's saying, I need to talk to the sheriff. I need to talk to the sheriff about something important. A sheriff could never do anything bad. And the guard is like, he's busy, but I'll tell him he comes to you later. Really busy.

And then, meanwhile, Robert Turing. No way. Was he also a bad man? It was just his friend. He is back in his office and he kind of like sighs and he's like, fine. And then he goes to his computer and Googles Anamosola tattoos and Googles the images. Well, because when you get a tattoo, you have to register it online. Well, oh, that's not what he does.

Wait, what? Like he'll find the person. Like he'll find it through the internet. No, he literally just looks it up to be like, what is it actually about? looking for, I guess, and then gets to a spooky website. Wasn't he the one that was like, yeah, Animal Sola, everybody knows it? Yeah, he was the one that was condescending about it before, but now he had to like take a breath to like... Let me just get a refresher.

Let me just, like, research it. I know it, but I'm going to just Google it to make sure that what I know, I know is correct. And then he looks at all the pictures of it and gets spooked in his... Scary. He's like, scary. She's like, this is scaring me. All right. Then it's later that night.

She's in her cell. The sheriff comes in and he says, you wanted to talk to me. And she says, Take off your shirt. Not alone. I figured it out. Not alone. I know what it means now.

They're two killers. I know it sounds crazy. I know it sounds crazy, but they're two killers. Hallie, come on. You need to be doing a little bit more. You need to be following these thoughts to their conclusions. I'm sorry. Sorry.

I have in, this is why it's, I didn't like go through my notes at the end and I have in my notes so many times. It's obviously him. All exclamation points. It's obviously him. This is so frustrating. This is so frustrating. So it's like confusing for me to like read my train of thought what actually happens because

there's so many moments of my brain was like jumping to jumping straight to the end because she also keeps trusting people. She's not very good at her job. She's supposed to be good at reading people. Everyone in this movie is very bad at her job. That's the one common link. She's saying he's saying okay so you're the doctor like walk me through it. What kind of man are we looking for here?

And she's going, all right, well, he'd be someone that grew up in a household with an absent father. He could be confused about his sexuality. And maybe he really attached himself to Doug as like a role model. And he's going, well, that's all so screwed up. And then he's going, but the man could seem really like smart and normal, right? And she goes, yeah, yeah, they often do just seem totally normal. And then he goes, I'm like, he's probably like really hot too, right? He's probably like God.

If you were to picture him, it'd be someone you'd want to fuck. Yeah. And like be in charge of things. And he goes, I don't want to scare you, Miranda, but he might be going after you too. He's going to think that Doug confessed to you. He's going to think that Doug told you everything. And she's saying, but he didn't. Doug didn't tell me, didn't tell me anything.

And he says, well, there are lots of different ways to confess. And he goes, come on, you're the psychiatrist. I'm just trying to put myself in this man's shoes. Then she gets it. She figures it. In that moment, she's like, wait a minute. You?

And she goes, well, the thing I don't understand is why didn't the killer go back to Willow Creek? Why didn't he go back to clean up the evidence? Evidence also includes Doug, right? So he's saying that they did it together and yeah, okay. We only saw Doug in the video. We only saw Doug in the video, but. Best friends do. everything together. They do everything together. And he says, you know, they didn't go back because

that's how you get caught. You, you, you don't want to panic. You better let the dust settle and then, then take care of the evidence. And I don't know. And then she says, like, do you think he's desperate? Like, maybe he's desperate. And she says, maybe he's desperate enough to talk to me. And he goes, he sighs and he goes well you're right i do fit the profile don't i long time friend of dugs access to the prison uh i did love torturing animals as a child and then he attacks her and she rips his sheriff's shirt off and what do you see anima sola tattoo front center right there on the chest she if she thought so before she really knows now yeah she screams he somehow has a syringe on him and he tries to get at her and he says after this i'm gonna have a lot more fun with you than

Doug ever did ew really gross stuff um she somehow then the light start flickering goes at work scares him enough that she's able to grab the syringe and stick it in his neck. Oh, boy. He doesn't fully pass out though yet. He's a big man. And she runs up the stairs. He goes after her.

He's ripping his shirt off and anger. The lights somehow turn red. I don't know why. Doesn't work. Now she's like in the office of the police station. He grabs a shotgun from his office. The lights are out except for some random red light. Nobody else is in the station at this point?

No one else is in the station. Sure. Sure. Sure. And we just leave people alone in the prison overnight. Of course. Of course. Of course.

We're not also, to be clear, we're in like a jail. We're in jail. Sorry. Jail, you can leave people alone overnight. Who knows? Definitely. Yeah, it's a shotgun. He's just shooting willy-nilly.

He somehow shoots a gas line. Start leaking gas straight into the air. She tries to get out the front door, but it's locked. She's hiding. He starts to get delirious, and he's laughing. He's laughing. He's saying, you tried to escape, Miranda. He tried to escape, so that means I can do whatever I want to with you.

That means I can do whatever I want. And then he does a full killer monologue. And he's like, Rachel wasn't the first, you know. Doug killed a girl when he was 15. I helped him bury the body. And he's shooting things. He shoots a door. He shoots a computer.

She's hiding under a desk. He says, we got older, but we never lost a taste for young girls. Ew. We had a time of our lives out there in Willow Creek until you ruined everything. You ruined everything. And then suddenly Rachel's a ghost appears to him. He shoots at her. Obviously doesn't do anything because she's a ghost.

His vision's kind of going blurry. and he's saying, this isn't logical. You're dead. This isn't logical. This isn't logical. He shoots again, and then his body goes up in flames.

And then Hallie Berry finds again. It's not logical. And she shoots him. And then she says, logic is overrated. Oh, hell yeah. Oh, my God. Wow.

And then there's hopeful music swelling. Wow. She's changed. As she approaches his smoking body, smoking, literally smoking, not smoking hot. Then Robert Johnny Jr. appears at the door and he says, I'm sorry, Miranda. And then we cut two sometime later.

So the narrative here is that she found the nasty room. When did she come around and ruin everything? He just got married and stopped wanting to torture young women. No, no. He's saying like you ruined everything. killing Doug, I think. Oh. But killing Doug and like...

Even though it was Rachel. And also finding the room. Is Rachel who killed Doug? Yeah, Rachel did. Rachel's really responsible for pretty much all of this. Rachel really came back from the dead to like do a lot of work. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, okay. Okay, so. Okay. So this has happened. This has happened. All right. Cut two. I think we're supposed to be in New York City, but you see a Tim Horton's in the background,

which it's definitely Canada. She's walking arm and arm with a woman. Who's the woman? Penelope Cruz. Oh, wow. Both of them out of their grays into modern 2003

wardrobe, new hair. Wow. Looking absolutely gorgeous. Penelope Cruz says, it's been almost a year and I still wake up screaming. Once you open the door, you can never close it.

And Dr. Miranda Gray is saying that's not true, I closed it. I closed it and I've locked away the key. And then Penelope Cruz says, I hope that's true for you. And then she goes, you know, my train's leaving soon. And Holly Berry says, oh, okay, I'll get you on your way. She hails a taxi.

They embrace, they hug. She says, good luck with your job. Helpy Cruise, I guess it has a job. And she says, I really want to thank you. You really help me. You taught me how to listen. They smile, they hug. Helpy Cruz gets in the cab, drives away.

Halliberry keeps walking. Suddenly, little boy appears in the middle of the street, hand reaching out to her. She stops, shocked, reaches a hand out to him, just as an ambulance drives through his body. She screams, no, no. But the boy's gone after the ambulance drives past. The camera just pans to a missing child poster saying, have you seen Tim? Have you seen Tim? Have you seen Tim? Picture of the boy. and then it's the end of the movie. Wow, so she's now for a ghost... She's a ghost whisperer. Wow. Wow. Wow. She's going to do so much good in this world.

Wow. Now that she knows how to listen. Now that she's learning how to listen with her heart and not just her brain. Not her brain. Yeah. Not her weak brain. There are so many things about this movie that are so insane. One of them is like the constant Penelope Cruz being like the devil is raping

meet like that kind of thing and it's like they really don't commit to one line with her in the beginning the stuff she's saying is like she gets in crepe they don't know how to treat her character at all um also I was trying to think of other content because I feel like there's a lot of it where the twist is that like the sheriff and like the leaders of the town have like a crazy sex trafficking ring um it's in true to like just like it's like just like like one, I think it's the sinner season one, this movie,

Gothica. What are other examples of this? Because I tried like Googling it and couldn't find a list. President Donald Trump. I mean, that's what's so fuck it, like, fucked up about it. I don't know. I mean, I think, yeah, it's just a real thing.

So gothic a two when... So where's Gotha 2? Hallibary Ghost Whisper. Solving... I could just be a series on Netflix where she just solves crimes. I was going to say, that could be like a series. I love it. There's that series called Medium, right?

Where she does that. No, but I want the Gothica series. I want Gothica. Yeah. Because it was so good. I'm down. Hemley, the way you weave a story together, I just, I loved every second of it. Really incredible work.

Really such a treat. I can't believe we hadn't done this one yet. I can't believe it. I felt so lucky to stumble across it. I didn't get bingo, but I did kind of keep checking. And we got a lot of tropes. We got gas lighting. We got isolation.

We got power outage. We got relationship trouble. we got a mirror scare we got creepy kid we have nasty nightgowns we have a basement mm-hmm it's a lot so that's a lot yeah that's a lot

yeah so really glad to know everything there is to know about this movie now I'm really glad so much to talk to people about small talk yeah people are constantly bringing this one up. They're constantly talking about gothic. So I'm happy to be able to join the conversation.

Me too. And I guess we should watch the trailer too. Yeah, we will do that. Yeah, that'll be on our page. Sammy, is this what you thought the movie was going to be about? Yeah, I remembered, I remembered her seen a ghost girl in the road and I knew it was some amount of her thinking she was losing her mind. I didn't remember that she was actually imprisoned and and a doctor in every field. And a doctor in every field. And I didn't remember any Robert Downey Jr.

Maybe similarly to how to this building is all buildings in this world. Doctor is all doctors. Right. Every type of doctor. Yeah. Yeah. The way we treat mental illness is really not okay. No. No. And not, certainly not how it's done here.

Nope. Nope. Yeah. I didn't know what, I didn't really know what this movie was going to be about either, but I was, you know, thrilled to discover that it was everything that I expected it to be. Yeah. Yeah, this is. It's really making you know with certainty that it was made in 2003. Yeah. which I can appreciate that. Of its time.
