Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a HeadGum Podcast. This is Emily, Henley, and Sammy, and you're listening to Too Scary, Didn't Watch. Hi everyone, welcome to Too Scary, Didn't Watch, the horror movie recap podcast for those too scared to watch for themselves. I'm Emily and I am too scared to watch scary movies. I'm Henley and I'm also too scared to watch scary movies. I'm Sammie and I love watching scary movies and so I watch them so that you don't have to and I am so happy to be here with you two today.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Me too. and I am so happy to be here with you two today. It has been a scary week. Yeah. Yeah, you hate, it's been really, really bad and really scary and it really just is so wild to be like, oh, 2025, okay. I know, and I'm sorry, I know we don't like to get political,
Starting point is 00:01:04 but I also just had the like realization of like, and then we got to see Trump be sworn in like in a week. Yeah, that's happening really soon. I am grateful that the fires happened before Trump was sworn in because that would have become true. I know this one, this one, because he was already politicizing it, obviously. So yeah, there's a lot of that. Everybody is.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Yeah. Yeah. So we're recording this on Sunday, January 12th. It has been almost a week of some of the worst wildfires in California history, the worst in LA history, the worst in LA history. We are safe, but it has been really scary and awful and sad and will continue to be for years. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:54 Yeah, it's really, it's really brutal. Hard to know how to gather my thoughts on this because we've also been cooped up inside for days. Yeah, it feels a lot like early days of COVID where you're kind of going back and forth between like laughing out of shock of like, huh, how long is this going to last? And like, the world as we know it is over. And then crying and then just feeling absolutely insane and feeling really afraid and worried about the people that you love and seeing people that you love lose things that are
Starting point is 00:02:36 really important to them, lose their houses, lose irreplaceable memories. And it's just so much to take in. It's just, it's just another collective trauma for us. And so you, in those moments I've just noticed, yeah, how my brain kind of, it's doing some different stuff than normal. Yeah, yeah. And yeah, it feels insane to like, to laugh, but it's also like some, it's like out of sheer just like,
Starting point is 00:03:06 yeah, what else? Yeah. Yeah, it's, yeah, we, see, I have no, I think everyone's in shock, everyone's. It's a shock, yeah, a shock and like denial and a lot of fear about what comes next and what is ahead and warning even those of us who didn't directly lose our homes
Starting point is 00:03:31 or thankfully lives of people we love. This version of life as we know it, this version of our city as we know it are gone. That's just true. Everybody I know moved to LA for a reason, came here from somewhere else, built a life here. None of us know what that will continue to look like. If we will continue to be, it's really, it's a lot. It's really, really sad and horrifying to different degrees for different people, but all of us are feeling some version of it. And we will try to continue to post like resources
Starting point is 00:04:08 of people who need help. That's also really overwhelming because so many people do. Yeah, there's just hundreds. I think in this moment, donating money or time, I think are the most valuable things because organizations know how to use that money better than than material goods, even though, you know, I don't know, everybody do what they can. Everybody
Starting point is 00:04:31 take care of themselves as they can. And sorry, if we're not talking about this, like in the best way possible, I don't really know how to. And we are going to talk about a fucking movie in a few minutes. So also just get ready for that. Yeah, I've been just giving people disclaimers that I even have conversations with. Like my brain is pretty scrambled at the moment. And I feel like it's like an out of body experience. Yeah, I think it's like a natural disaster
Starting point is 00:05:03 in one of the largest cities in the world. And so the effects are going to be felt. And it's not isolated. And it does. It's like a part of a global, massive problem that we will all face in some way or another for the rest of our lives. Yeah. And I keep like getting surges of anger as well at the effects of capitalism and their contributions
Starting point is 00:05:27 to global warming and climate change and seeing a lot of rent price gouging after this because so many people have been displaced. But there has also been like a tremendous outpouring of support and people volunteering and donating and stepping up to help in this time of need. And so yeah, you just see like the best and the worst of humanity in these situations. And it's like heartwarming and heartbreaking. And it's just, again, it's a lot. Yeah. Oh, I don't even live anywhere near you, obviously.
Starting point is 00:06:09 And it's like all I've been able to think about. And anytime I'm having a conversation with anyone in Connecticut, if the first thing they're talking about isn't the fires in LA, I'm like, well, why aren't we just talking about the fires in LA? Right. Why aren't we just- It's really wild. ... focused on that? How let's redirect the conversation back about the fires in LA? Why aren't we just focused on that?
Starting point is 00:06:25 Let's redirect the conversation back to the fires in LA. I've been so hyper-focused on it that I needed to take a break and not look at my phone for 24 hours because it's not helping anyone for me to be glued to the New York Times updates. I've been glued to those too. I was putting in, I checked my average screen time
Starting point is 00:06:49 just out of curiosity the other day. You guys saw, I was running above eight hours a day of screen time on my phone because I have my watch duty app which tells me all the fire alerts. I have the New York Times updates just telling me like what's happening larger scale and all the things. I have Instagram seeing people's messages who just lost their house. Who do I need to reach out to like which go fund me is we need to
Starting point is 00:07:11 support like it's just been Absolutely constant which that in and of itself will turn your brain into fucking mush It's also been years of like which crisis are we focusing on now? which is partially the internet and how connected we all are and partially that everything is really bad. And I think that people have felt versions of that feeling, Hen, about all of the things that have been happening lately. Like I know, I don't know, maybe we'll cut this out,
Starting point is 00:07:37 maybe we won't. People have felt similarly like, why aren't we talking about Gaza all the time? And to the three of us, why aren't you talking about the genocide happening in Gaza all the time? And I fucking get it. Our brains can only hold so much. There's so much trauma and devastation
Starting point is 00:07:54 and horrifying things happening. And some of us are connected to some of those things stronger than others because we're simply human. Sometimes we can think about things more than others. Some things shut our brains down. Some things activate us. Some things, it's all really bad and it's really're simply human. Sometimes we can think about things more than others. Some things shut our brains down. Some things activate us. Some things, it's all really bad and it's really, really sad.
Starting point is 00:08:09 And I don't know, I'm just sad and sorry and overwhelmed and we're just three ladies who once again are about to just talk about a movie for an hour. We did consider taking the week off and then kind of thought that people would maybe want a distraction. We could use a distraction for an hour, feeling of normalcy.
Starting point is 00:08:36 I just wanna hang out with you guys. So sorry we have to do a podcast episode so I get to spend a few hours with you. Yeah, but thank you also everyone for checking in. We've seen a lot of your comments and DMs and it's really sweet and kind of all of you. We love you guys so much and yeah, we're doing okay. And we hope that you're all taking care of yourselves,
Starting point is 00:09:00 especially those of you that live in LA. Oh, and yeah. Wish we could give one big group hug to everybody. Yeah. Yeah. I think getting out and seeing people and volunteering is the best solution for feeling despair. I know for me anyway,
Starting point is 00:09:19 that's the thing that helps me the most is when you are with other people who feel the same way that you feel. And it's kind of like the only thing that helps actually. And there's going to be a lot of that in the next few weeks. And the silver lining in this, if there is one, which I don't want to be toxically positive about a terrible enormous tragedy, but if there
Starting point is 00:09:45 is a silver lining, it is like the community that can maybe be generated out of the people who joined together to help and rebuild and make something new. Yeah. The best and worst come out. And if we can find a way to be a part of the best and see the best, that is something. Yes. Be the person who sees the best. Be the person who sees the best. That is something. Be the person who sees the best. Be the person who sees the best.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Yes. I can do that. Hey. Hey guys. You wanna guess what else scary happened this week? I watched the movie. Because Sammy relocated to a hotel for a few days so she could breathe air.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Hey, I watched a movie. Yeah, Em watched a movie. We don't even know what movie it is yet. You don't even know what movie it is yet. It was gonna do The Happening, which we will do at some point, but you had to buy it and I simply didn't want to. I feel like we should do The Happening
Starting point is 00:10:41 as like a watch along or something at this point. Oh, that's a good idea. Because I'm the only one who doesn't know the twist. Oh, I know the twist. I know the twist. So that's a good idea. We'll do that. We'll do it as a watch along.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Maybe, don't fucking hold us to anything we say, like literally ever, but especially right now. Like don't believe a word we say. This week, I wanted to try to find something that could maybe be kind of fun, you know? And so this week, we are talking about It's What's Inside. I don't even know what that is. I didn't either, but apparently it's quite zeitgeist-y.
Starting point is 00:11:15 Oh, I love it. I love a zeitgeist. It is a Netflix movie, so you can watch it on Netflix. It premiered in January 2024 at Sundance and then in October on Netflix. It, this is where I talk about the movie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Wait, Sammy, have you heard of this movie? Do you know this movie? Yes, I've seen it because as you mentioned, it was very zeitgeisty. So I heard all, all, you know, I'm in touch with those horror movies. She's got your finger on the pulse, baby. Yeah, she's in it, she's in it.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Yes. Sorry. It was directed by Greg Jardin, written by Greg Jardin, starring Brittany O'Grady, James Morasini, Gavin Leatherwood, Nina Blumgarden, Alicia Debnam-Carrie, Raina Hardesty, Devin Terrell, David Thompson, and Madison Davenport. We have an ensemble situation. And it kind of like on the image alone, it looks, it feels kind of like bodies by bodies bodies
Starting point is 00:12:18 where it's like a group of young people, maybe irresponsible kind of party vibes, things go wrong, bright colors, that sort of deal. So that's why I was like, oh, how bad could this possibly be? Oh no, Em, oh no, oh no. No, no, no, it's fine, it's fine. I am gonna say like, it's not too scary.
Starting point is 00:12:36 Okay, yeah. There's upsetting stuff in it? There's upsetting stuff in it, but it's not like too scary. Not a lot. There's like one jump scare. It's more just like, Oh no, Oh God, don't do this. That kind of feeling. Great. Great.
Starting point is 00:12:54 It has a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 56 on Metacritic and a 6.6 on IMDB. It had a budget of 2.5 million. It was a Netflix movie, so we don't have, you know, box office returns. Netflix, I think, owns everything, so good job for them owning another thing. There's not a lot of trivia for this movie. This little bit of trivia throughout the movie, there's background music that is variations
Starting point is 00:13:22 on the second movement of Beethoven's seventh symphony. I did notice that because I love that particular symphony. She hates music, but she loves Beethoven. Beethoven was my number two artist of 2023 on Spotify. He got kicked out in 2024. Wait, Sammi, you would be so good at two truths and a lie. I feel like you could like fucking kill that game. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Are you kidding? I feel like I was in Ozzy Osbourne music video. Exactly. And I was born in South Africa. Exactly. I always killed it in elementary school and feel like you guys don't even fucking know what's coming. You guys don't even fucking know.
Starting point is 00:14:00 You guys don't even fucking know. And the other trivia is that Gavin Leatherwood and James Morasini have both appeared in season one of the Sex Lies of College Girls. That's a huge trivia. Here, I need to watch that. Huge trivia. So I watched the first season of Sex Lies of College Girls
Starting point is 00:14:16 and I really enjoyed it. And then I tried watching the second season and had an existential crisis. I hated it so much. Fell off. Okay. Interesting. I like really hated it. I think I was in Los Angeles
Starting point is 00:14:27 actually trying to distract myself from a work trip when I was like, I'll wind down and watch season two of this show that I enjoyed. And instead I was like, this is awful. The TV industry is awful. Everything's falling apart. Everything's bad. I probably had had a weed gummy at this point. falling apart. Everything's bad. I probably had had a weed gummy at this point. So probably. Yeah. I started Tell Me Lies, which I've also seen. Tell me lies. Also bad. It's it's a tricky. It's a tricky one. Tell Jenna. It's not a feel good show. Oh, no, thanks. I'm only on episode two, so I can't say a full review, but I'm struggling. I started watching Bad Sisters and I'm also struggling. Yeah, I struggled with Bad Sisters too.
Starting point is 00:15:12 People love it and I'm like, this makes me feel really, really bad. Me too. I really don't like a really well-done portrayal of domestic abuse. I'm not really like on board. The way he calls her mummy, doesn't he call her mummy? Marmy or whatever, like mammy,
Starting point is 00:15:32 the Irish version of it, but yeah. I don't want it. I don't want that or in my head. Bad Sisters is really good though. But yes, it's upsetting. I'm having a hard time. Fair enough. We're not talking about that.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Okay, we're talking about this really good Netflix movie. We're talking about this really good Netflix movie. We're talking about this Netflix movie that I honestly had a really fun time with. I did. I take some issue with some things. Great. Because I'm only human. But really what's gonna be interesting
Starting point is 00:15:58 is I think this might be impossible to tell you about. Okay, okay. We will get to it, but it's, this is really, this really can be a challenge for me personally. I thought about this. I've seen this movie and you really have to know who all the characters are and there's a lot of them. But just let it wash over you.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Just let it wash over you. Just let it wash over you. It's gonna be just fine. It was even confusing to watch when you can like see their faces. So yes, it's gonna be. Yep. Yep. But we're gonna.
Starting point is 00:16:34 So you know what? We're just trying our best. It's gonna be great. I will say, I do think we should watch the trailer at the end. Okay, cool. Yes, I think you're right. Even though you're, look, we're just gonna see what happens, Hen think you're right, yeah. Even though, even though you're,
Starting point is 00:16:45 look, we're just gonna see what happens, Henley, okay? And listeners, we're just gonna see. I'm gonna try my best and we're just gonna see. I am along for the ride and I'm here with you every step of the way, Emily. Thank you so much. I have faith in you, you can do this, you freaking got this.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Oh, you definitely got this. Oh my God, thank you so much. Thank you so much. She's pulling her sleeves up. She is like fucking ready. I'm getting heated. I'm getting heated. Okay. Here we go.

We're zoomed in on like what looks like a little metal circle. We're zooming out, we're zooming out.
Starting point is 00:21:24 It's like a gear of some sort of like a screw or something. We're zooming out, we're zooming out. It's like a gear of some sort of like a screw or something. We're zooming out, we're zooming out. We're seeing a bright light in the center. We really don't know what we're looking at. Some bit of like machinery or something. We're hearing some mumbling as if there's people talking. Again, we don't really know what this is, but clearly it's important.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Cut to looking at a TikTok video. This beautiful young woman influencer doing this video about like, hey, if you need to get the spark back in your relationship, like you just need to try new things, it's important to get out of a rut when you're in a relationship, giving this advice. Don't trust her, don't trust her.
Starting point is 00:22:04 And we see another different young woman in the bathroom, in her bathroom mirror. She's putting a wig on. And this is, I don't remember this actress's name, Brittany O'Grady, I think. She's in the first season of White Lotus. She's the friend of Sydney Sweeney. Oh yeah, she was good.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Yeah, she's great. So she's like putting a wig on in the bathroom mirror and we see her, she keeps saying herself in the mirror, like clearly trying out a voice going like, hey cutie, hey cutie. Just like trying out this persona, wig, vibe, everything. We see, then cut to another room, we see a guy in his bed with his laptop.
Starting point is 00:22:43 He's got a bunch of tabs open. Most of them are porn. One of them is this TikTok video. And so the girl, her name is Shelby. Okay. In the wig? In the wig. Girl in the wig is Shelby.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Guy in the bed is Cyrus. So now we see Shelby walking down the hall. She's in her underwear in this wig, walking up to the bedroom door, going to open it. She opens it to find Cyrus in bed jerking off, but he like closes his laptop and quickly like, hey, oh, hey, you know, like so obviously was jerking off, but it's like, I was doing work.
Starting point is 00:23:20 And he's like, I thought you were going for a run. And she said, you said you wanted to try this wig thing. Like this, you know, was your idea. She's like trying to seduce him like up against the wall, like, hey, I thought you wanted to like try this. I'm doing this. And he's sort of trying to get himself on board, but he's like not reacting the way that she wanted him to.
Starting point is 00:23:43 He isn't immediately like, Oh yeah. It could be like, he's just sort of like, Oh, okay. I don't know. She, you know, pretty quickly gets frustrated and is like, this was your idea. Like you wanted to do this. And she's like, were you jerking off? I thought we said we were going to save our sexual energy for each other. And he's like, no, I was working.
Starting point is 00:24:04 I was just working. And she's like, no, I was working. I was just working. And she's like, forget it. I'm not, I don't want to do this. Like this was your idea anyway. They are clearly in the aforementioned rut from the TikTok video. She's like, you know what? We, I don't even want to go to this wedding this weekend. Like we shouldn't even go.
Starting point is 00:24:21 Like we're not in a good place. And he's like, no, we have to go, we have to go. They're fighting. Smash cut. Titles, it's what's inside. This movie is very stylized, by the way. We see like, so what we're seeing next is we've seen like basically a bunch of Instagram posts, pictures, videos,
Starting point is 00:24:41 and we're seeing engagement photos, Hashtag Rufia. A video, Instagram video that a girl picking up her friend at the airport is like, guess who I've got on our way to Rufia. Just people like come into this wedding. Hashtag Rufia. Shelby and Cyrus are now in their car driving. Shelby's in the passenger seat. She's scrolling Instagram on her phone, seeing all these posts.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Scrolls past that same influencer. This is the influencer, her name is Nikki, and she's also got hashtag Rufia. So this is like one of their friends, but she's a big Instagram influencer. Shelby's looking at her posts and her comments. It's all like selfies and it's like got thousands and thousands of likes and comments. Oh my God, you're so hot. I love you. La la la la la.
Starting point is 00:25:28 Shelby is clearly insecure about this. We see Shelby take a selfie, go to post on her own Instagram, writing and deleting captions, finally lands on something, post the picture, refreshing her Instagram, refreshing her Instagram,
Starting point is 00:25:40 gets three likes, immediately deletes it. Oh, this is an anxiety attack waiting to happen. Also, the wig that Shelby wore, and when she was doing like the hey cutie, she's, she was like basically role playing as Nikki, we realized, like it's the same kind of hair. Nikki posts a lot going like, hey cutie, you know, that's sort of her vibe. So that's kind of, yeah, so Shelby is very clearly insecure about this Nikki girl. No, I don't like this.
Starting point is 00:26:10 They drive down the drive of this gorgeous big mansion. We see like a wooden sign, hashtag Rufia with balloons. Like, okay, this is the house we're approaching. Oh, Shelby says to Cyrus on the way in, like, don't you think it's weird that Sophia isn't going to be here tonight with Ruben and all of us? And it's the night before their wedding. And he says, you know, you know, we all said we were going to spend this night together. She's got her own thing. She's with her own friends. Like, this is just our friend groups thing that we're going to do. Okay, pull up at the house, get out
Starting point is 00:26:42 of the car. A bird flies right at Shelby, just like flies into her. She freaks out. Nothing happens other than that. It's just a weird little detail. They show up at the door. Shelby's really flustered. As they're like knocking on the door, she says to Sarah, she's like, do you always jerk off before, like when I go on a run? Is that what you're always doing? Is that like your time for yourself? Like? Like, she's really worked up, and it's like, not a good time to be having this fight. But he's like, we can talk about this later. We can talk about this later.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Door opens. You guys are here. Yay! There's already, like, a party going on inside. We enter the house. This is a gorgeous mansion with, like, weird artwork everywhere. It's just, like, really strange. It's almost like a, like, a, if Meow Wolf were a house. It's, like, really strange, beautiful, artsy,
Starting point is 00:27:27 interesting house. But this is group of friends. Really gonna be hard to get you guys to understand who these people are, but I'm gonna try. It's... Like she's doing like a mnemonic device right now. I think there's eight of them. The cat jumps over the.
Starting point is 00:27:47 So it's, so we've got Shelby and Cyrus, this couple. In the house we have Dennis, Brooke, Maya and Nikki, the influencer Nikki are here. And Ruben, whose wedding is tomorrow. So this is this group. They all come in, they all start hugging each other. It's clear that it seems like Shelby doesn't know these people quite as well,
Starting point is 00:28:11 but it is their sort of shared friend group. But even though they're all like really excited, oh my God, it's so good to see you hugging each other, immediately Nikki says to Cyrus and Shelby like, oh my God, you guys got married, right? And they're like, no, we didn't get married. Like, oh yeah, sorry, I thought I saw that. One of the other girls is like, wow, congratulations.
Starting point is 00:28:29 You guys is like, nope, we didn't. So they clearly don't actually know each other that, like they're not that connected to each other's lives. This is more of a reunion than like regular friends. Okay, so they were all friends in college. Something like that, yeah. Something like that. And wait, and so Ruben is getting married
Starting point is 00:28:44 to Sophia who's not there? Correct. Okay. This is like their college friend reunion the night before Ruben's wedding. Okay, which is weird. Seems like a bad idea. Seems weird. We'll figure it.
Starting point is 00:28:57 We'll get a little more info on that later. So they're all sort of saying hi and reconnecting. Cyrus goes outside to find Ruben's on the grill making dinner, you know, congratulates him, oh my god, you're getting married, so awesome. Cyrus asks, is Forbes coming? Ruben says, you know, I haven't heard from him, like I invited him, but I haven't heard anything. Cut into the house, we've got the girls, Shelby with Brooke and Maya, asking like, is Forbes coming? Shelby says, what happened with Forbes? They, like, is Forbes coming? Shelby says, what happened with Forbes? They're like, oh, my God, you don't remember what happened with Forbes.
Starting point is 00:29:29 That's right. You weren't there. Oh, my God. What do you remember about Forbes? Cut to the stylized little like image screen where we talk about what happened with Forbes. She's like, all I remember Forbes was like he was a genius. Right. And he was like really into games. Like, that's all I really remember. And they're like, yeah. So at Ruben's birthday party in college, no wait, maybe it was Dennis's birthday party.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Remember Forbes brought his younger sister who was in high school. She was obsessed with Dennis. She was going around the whole party, telling everybody that they were boyfriend and girlfriend. But that's Dennis was with Nikki at the time and Beatrice saw Dennis with Nikki and she freaked out and like had a total meltdown
Starting point is 00:30:09 and got wasted and Dennis and Forbes got into a fight about it, they got into a fist fight because Dennis was like trying to push Beatrice off of him. And so then the cops showed up and they arrested Dennis for fighting, but then Forbes ended up getting expelled from college because he brought his high school aged sister to a party and got her drunk. So Forbes got expelled and then he moved to California, started working in tech and none of us have heard from him
Starting point is 00:30:32 since. Oh my God. This is like the, this is actually the podcast, normal gossip where you're just hearing gossip that a it's not has no landing point in your brain. No, it's literally no one you know. And the thing that's funny about this, it's not just no one you know, it's also completely fictional characters who don't exist, but that's just what it feels like. It feels like normal gossip. I love it. Still scratches that itch.
Starting point is 00:30:52 I love it. Still scratches that itch. And so they're like, and so Shelby says, yeah, but that was, so Shelby wasn't at this party, but she's the only one of this friend group who wasn't at this party. She was not part of the friend group yet. Okay. But everybody else was there.
Starting point is 00:31:04 And Shelby says, yeah, but that was eight years ago. Surely they've made amends or people are over it by now. But their conversations interrupted by Nikki and Dennis being like, dinner time, we've got wine, woo! Everybody sits around the table. Nikki and Dennis, they're a couple? They're not a couple, they were a couple. Okay, okay. But they're not a couple, they were a couple. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:31:25 But they're not a couple anymore. But so we have dinner, everyone's sort of getting to know what's been up with everyone. We learned that, yes, Nikki is an influencer. She has like 8 million Instagram followers. But she's like, it's not just like, it's actually, I get to do like really important charitable work.
Starting point is 00:31:39 And, you know, I'm working with this like clean water initiative. And it's actually like really amazing that I can connect with people in that way. Dennis is rolling his eyes, and then they're like, oh Dennis, what have you been up to? He's like a trust fund baby, and so he's sort of just been living off his parents' money.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Yeah, Dennis, who are you to roll your eyes, bro? Bro? There's also Maya, who I don't think we, Maya, we see, she's just a very free spirit. She like earlier was like, did anybody bring sage? I want to cleanse the house. Brooke is showing everybody her art. She's an artist and she has done these sketches
Starting point is 00:32:17 where she's showing them all that. Sammy's in the midst of like the craziest sneezing attack. Oh, this is not the craziest sneeze attack. I've had days where I sneeze like 35 times in a row. Okay. So I'll just sort of let you go. Just keep going. Just keep going. I was like Brooke is showing her art
Starting point is 00:32:35 and she's got these sketches where she's holding up her sketch pad and she's like, see, it looks like this sketch right now. And she holds up like a red film, like a see-through film, like they put over lights to change the color of a light. And she puts that over the sketch and she's like, when you put the red over it, you can see something different inside the sketch.
Starting point is 00:32:55 It's almost like, I feel like when we were kids, we had those like mystery books that came with like a little red lens that you could look through the pictures and like find things. Do you remember that? Were we making that up? Wasn't that a thing? No, I don't think you're making it up, but.
Starting point is 00:33:07 Okay, but it's, I'm not. It's a real thing and I didn't. But that's sort of what it is. She's like, oh look, when you put the red film up, you can see like something different hidden inside the image. And they're like, wow, that's so cool. You're such a cool artist. We're seeing as they're sitting around this table,
Starting point is 00:33:20 we suddenly cut to Ruben's point of view. He's the one getting married and he's staring at Maya very like heart eyes. Like there's, he's like really thinking and lusting after her. Ruben stands up to give a toast. He says, okay, I wanna just thank everybody for being here. You know, eight years ago when my mom died
Starting point is 00:33:41 and I inherited this house, it was really scary and really overwhelming. And you guys all dropped everything and you showed up for me and you came to this house with me and you like helped me figure all of it out. And we promised that night that we would all come back together here the night before my wedding. Classic normal promise. And everyone strictly adheres I love you guys. I'm so glad we're all here. And he's standing in front of this big, like, sliding glass door as he's giving this toast.
Starting point is 00:34:10 And we get our one and only jump scare, which is all of a sudden we see a shadow behind him outside the door. We hear a knock. They all jump, they look over, and it's Forbes. Here he is. He's like, I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad you're here.
Starting point is 00:34:24 I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad you're here. which is all of a sudden we see a shadow behind him outside the door, we hear a knock, they all jump, they look over, and it's Forbes. Here he is. Forbes showed up, everyone's kind of like, oh my god, whoa, it's Forbes. Forbes comes in, Ruben's thrilled, gives him a big hug, oh my god, you made it, I'm so happy. They're all surprised, but like, you know,
Starting point is 00:34:41 the whole group is here now, great. Everybody sort of is settling back in. Cyrus goes and talks to Forbes one-on-one. It's like, hey, man, so like, so good to see you. Sorry, it's been so long. We haven't talked. Hope you're okay. And Forbes is like, yeah, what's up with you?
Starting point is 00:34:58 And he, you know, I mean, Cyrus is dealing, he like really starts to, he's like really mumbly. He sort of just like talks and talks and talks. And he's like, oh yeah, you know, things with Shelby are like, no, they're not so great. She really wants to keep, she keeps talking about how we starts to, he's like really mumbly. He sort of just like talks and talks and talks. And he's like, oh yeah, you know, things with Shelby are like, no, they're not so great. She really wants to keep, she keeps talking about how we need to, we're kind of in a rush.
Starting point is 00:35:10 She wants to try to experience, she's just making me take like ballroom dancing. And like, I don't know, it's just, but no, no, no, I mean, everything's really great. Everything's like, I'm like so great, man. Everything's so good. He started just mumbling and talking and talking and talking. And Forbes is just staring at him
Starting point is 00:35:23 with this like weird little half smile on his face, like completely not reactive. And then he finally just goes, great. Oh, Forbes is there to do some fucking mischief. Forbes is about to blow some shit up, I feel like. Forbes, you little mischief maker. I have my eye on you, Forbes. We were suspicious.
Starting point is 00:35:42 So we all go into the living room. We're hanging out. Everybody's sitting in a circle on the couches, some people are smoking weed, and Forbes comes into the room with this big, like, old fashioned suitcase that he brought with him. And they're like, oh, Forbes game guy. Remember we learned he was like a big game guy,
Starting point is 00:35:59 like, what, did you bring a game for us? And Forbes was like, yes, but this is some strictly, needs to stay in this room type shit. So no snow phones, what I'm about to show you is like very secretive. They're like, okay, okay, Forbes shows. So he's like, I could explain it to you,
Starting point is 00:36:18 but I think you guys just need to see for yourselves. So he opens a suitcase. Okay, let's just stop here. Let's make an agreement. Okay. Any one of us, if any one of us ever wrongs on purpose or by accident wrongs a young genius man who is at an age where there is- Where he's about to go to California and work in tech for eight years. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Yes. And there's more of a possibility of a break mentally. Impressively young minds. We just need to agree that if they show up as a surprise eight years later with something that they tell you is super secret that they've been working on and that you can't tell anyone else and that you're alone in like an isolated house with them, just don't do that. Just run away. Just don't do that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't. Sort of a blanket, just don't do that. Just don't do that. Just run away. Just don't do that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Don't. Yeah. Sort of a blanket. Just don't do that.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Just don't do that. Yep. I promise. Okay. So everybody don't everybody, everybody just don't do that. Okay. But they do that. Okay. So they're here. They're here doing it. And it's like this big, it almost looks like a soundboard that you'd see it like, like a music show backstage. Like a producer's music. A bunch of different little, yeah, a bunch of different like cords that get plugged in and little knobs that get pushed.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Like a switchboard, like in John Wick, the women that are patching in different phone lines type of thing. Exactly. It's a switchboard. And he hands them all, he gives them all two little electrodes attached to wires. He's like, here, you all need to take this and put that on your temples.
Starting point is 00:37:52 I see where this is going. Okay, you sit in a circle. And I don't know if you do. Oh, okay, really? I mean, maybe you do. Let me know, let me know if you saw this coming. But he's like, okay, we're gonna, he's like, I promise this isn't gonna hurt.
Starting point is 00:38:04 We're just gonna have a little 20 second experience and then you'll understand what this thing is. So they all do it. They put these electrodes on their temples and Forbes flips a switch and we zoom out, this movie does a cool thing where we see in little squares, almost like the Brady Bunch, everybody's face at the same time
Starting point is 00:38:25 as they're having whatever experience this is, they all immediately start freaking out. They're like looking at their hands like, whoa, what the fuck? What's happening? What's happening? Screaming, freaking out. And we see, when we see Cyrus's face, he is all of a sudden taking over the role of like explaining what's going on
Starting point is 00:38:46 while Forbes we see is freaking out. Yeah, they switched consciousness into different bodies. Okay, she's not coming. Yeah, I really saw it coming. She fucking nailed it. Honestly, I saw it coming like from the name of the- From the title. From the title.
Starting point is 00:38:59 I suppose that's fair. And then, you know, Cyrus's body flips the switch back. Everybody comes back to themselves and they're all like, what the fuck just happened? What was that? Totally, totally freaked out. Yep. And Forbes is like, yeah, my team has been working
Starting point is 00:39:22 on this for a while. My team, lol. My team. If you think about, think about your brain as like a hard drive, right? We just figured out how to swap the files. So we're basically in each other's bodies. And my team usually uses it to play a game where we do that. We swap bodies and then we all have to figure out
Starting point is 00:39:47 who's in whose body. Oh, that's a game you play with this thing that you discovered? He loves games. Forbes loves his games. Forbes loves his games. It's kind of like mafia only instead of like, who's the killer, it's who's in whose body.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Is anyone asking like, why are you doing this research? Is this research for the government? Who's gonna benefit from this research? I'll say this, I'll say this. This is the one of my small notes with this movie is, look, everybody's different, but they're all supposed to be like 30 years old and nobody is asking a reasonable question such as,
Starting point is 00:40:20 what is this for? Are we safe? Things that I do think at least a 30-year-old in a group of eight might ask. Also, it seems like they're all about to do it again. I'm for sure not doing that ever again. So Forbes is like, do you guys wanna play this game? I thought we could play this game.
Starting point is 00:40:39 I thought it'd be pretty fun. I really like this game. Just a game. What do you guys think? And they're all sort of sitting processing this in the circle and Ruben is the first to be like, fuck it, let's play. And so pretty quickly they, the rest of them get on board. Shelby is the only one who's pretty freaked out and she's, Cyrus sort of pulls her aside and she's like, I, I don't want to do that again. Like that was really freaky.
Starting point is 00:41:06 I don't like that. He didn't tell us what was going to happen and like, how is this work? And she is sort of asking the right questions, but she's, she's like, I just think I'm not, I'm you guys can play. I'm not going to do it. And Cyrus is being an asshole. Don't be such a wet blanket, bitch. Like, you're ruining the vibe.
Starting point is 00:41:24 You wanted to try new things. Yes. He's like, don't be such a wet blanket, bitch. Like, you're ruining the vibes. He thought you wanted to try new things. Yes, he's like. Weaponizing. Remember you wanted to try new experiences. And I think this could be a really cool new experience for us. And she's still unsure. And he's like, well, if you're going to sit out,
Starting point is 00:41:38 I'm going to sit out. She's like, don't do that. You always do that, making like me ruin your experience because something I want to do. He's like, I just think this could making like me ruin your experience because something I wanna do. He's like, I just think this could be like really good and really fun for us. And so finally she agrees. Oh, you manipulative son of a bitch.
Starting point is 00:41:51 This gossip is rialing me up. This gossip is the craziest gossip I've ever heard. Ready, baby. So they sit back in a circle and Forbes tells them the rules. Here's what we're gonna do. I'm gonna take a Polaroid of everybody. We all get a little Polaroid with our name written on it. We're gonna swap, but he's like,
Starting point is 00:42:07 I'm like the dungeon master. I'm gonna set the board. So I can't participate in guessing because I'm gonna know who everybody is. But we're gonna swap bodies. We all get to guess who's in everybody else's body. If you guess somebody and you get it right, they get their Polaroid of like,
Starting point is 00:42:26 basically, like if I, if Henley's brain were in my body and Sammy guessed it correctly, so I look like me, but my brain is Henley. Then we'd pin a Henley photo to you. Someone would pin a Henley photo to me. So it's like, you're looking at Emily, but it's actually Henley. And we know because Henley is pinned to my body.
Starting point is 00:42:44 We would pretty quickly, I think it would be very obvious right away. But remember that these are friends that have not really kept up well. Oh, that's true. And if someone has nefarious intentions and they're gonna pretend to be someone else. And the whole point of the, it's like mafia, right?
Starting point is 00:43:02 The whole point of the game is like- So yeah, you are trying to act like someone else. I don't want you to guess who I am, right? Because then I'm out. I would, okay. I would have to have the situation around me, the context around me would have to be so extreme for me to agree to this.
Starting point is 00:43:18 I would have to be in such an insane situation. I would never ever in any lifetime, even with the people I trusted the most on planet earth ever do this. I would never ever, ever do this. Yeah. So we just have to suspend that. We just have to move on from that. And again, they're like all, you know,
Starting point is 00:43:35 the vibe is very like, we don't really, I think A, we don't really know how to be in a room with each other. This is like several exes, people who want to be with each other, but aren't. It's been a long time. We're all drunk and high and drunk. I think A, we don't really know how to be in a room with each other. This is like several exes, people who want to be with each other, but aren't. It's been a long time. We're all drunk and high.
Starting point is 00:43:49 And so that's also something to consider. Like the vibe is very, nobody's in their right mind necessarily and nobody's really comfortable. Okay. But yeah, so, and one of the other rules is if you guess somebody and you're wrong, so say I'm like, oh Henley you're in Sammy's body and I'm wrong about that. I have to reveal who I am. Okay, okay
Starting point is 00:44:13 and that's the game and Well, you know with the round goes until everybody gets gassed or until the the dungeon master aka Forbes Just decides to call it and switch them back Shelby is still clearly very freaked out as they're getting ready to start. And Forbes is like, do you want me to show you how the machine works? Will that help? And she's like, no, no, I'm fine. I'm fine. It's I got I'm totally ready. And so they decide, OK, it's time to start for.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Counts them down. Three, two, one, flips a switch. Title card comes up, round one. They all take a moment of like, you know, again, looking at their hands, everyone's being more chill this time, they knew it was coming, but immediately Brooke, Brooke's body, stands up screaming, like, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:45:04 They all start laughing. They go, that's Shelby. Shelby's in Brooke's body. And they are right. But immediately Shelby in Brooke's body is like, I actually feel okay. And they all laugh because they realized, Oh my God, Brooke was really high. So now that Shelby's inside Brooke's body, Shelby's really high. And they all think that's so funny. So they pin Shelby's picture inside Brooke's body, Shelby's really high, and they all think that's so funny.
Starting point is 00:45:25 So they pin Shelby's picture to Brooke's body. So Shelby is in Brooke. This is confusing. This is going to be so hard. This is so confusing. It gets crazier. Yeah, I'm sure it gets even worse. So we got one guess right.
Starting point is 00:45:40 Shelby's in Brooke. Ruben's body stands up and starts to take his pants off. He's like, okay, here's what I'm gonna do. I should note Ruben is black. The rest of them, some of them are white. A lot of them are mixed race, it appears, whatever. Race isn't really an important part, except for Ruben being black is brought up a few times.
Starting point is 00:46:03 And so the person in Ruben's body is like, I'm gonna take my pants off and look at this penis. And before he can take his pants off, Cyrus's body stands up and is like, stop, stop, stop, stop. And so they're all like, aha, Ruben's in Cyrus's body. He's getting really mad. He's like, that's fucking racist. You can't just show my body off to everybody. But now we know Ruben is in Cyrus's body.
Starting point is 00:46:30 Okay. Okay, okay, okay. Oh God. Someone then guesses that Cyrus is in Dennis's body. He says something and they're like, oh, that's Cyrus. And Dennis's body says, yep, you got me. Takes the Polaroid of Cyrus and pins it to his shirt. But the person in Ruben's body looks over at Dennis's body like, the fuck? Okay, so Cyrus is in Ruben's body, but whoever is in Dennis's body is pretending to be Cyrus.
Starting point is 00:47:10 Yes. I need to like write this down. I think I need to have a piece of paper. Remember, taking notes for this was fucking crazy. Okay, so I'm going to try to make it somewhat interesting to listen to even though it's really complicated So they sort of disperse right now. We're in like party game moment We're all gonna walk around and try to figure out who's who we know a few people but not everybody so Ruben's body corners Dennis's body
Starting point is 00:47:38 So this is actually Cyrus cornering Forbes, okay, okay mystery person, but but Cyrus pretty quickly is like, Forbes, what the fuck? What the fuck? Like, why would you say that you're me? Now everybody thinks that I'm in Dennis' body, but I'm in Ruben's body. And the movie does a really cool thing where whenever we need to see who's really inside a body,
Starting point is 00:48:01 a red film comes over the whole screen. Like the sketches that Brooke does. We can see the actual people having the conversation. When the film goes away, we see the bodies. Okay, that is cool. But so a film comes over the screen and we see that it is Cyrus having a conversation with Forbes. But in the physical world, it's Ruben talking to Dennis. Got it.
Starting point is 00:48:25 But Forbes Dennis says to Cyrus Rubin, didn't you want to have a new experience? Forbes, wink, wink. So everybody thinks Forbes is inside of Ruben's body. OK. And Cyrus is inside of Dennis's body. OK. When in fact, Forbes is in Dennis's body and Cyrus is in Ruben's body.
Starting point is 00:48:48 But Forbes is like, have some fun with this Cyrus, we both get to be not who people think we are. Oh, this is a really complicated revenge, Forbes, but all right. But here we are. So, and Cyrus and Shelby are kind of our main protagonists for the movie, so their experiences who we're mostly seeing, if that is at all helpful in the context of who is who. So now we're following Ruben's body, which is actually Cyrus, but everybody thinks his forms.
Starting point is 00:49:20 He's wandering the house. We had learned when Ruben was talking earlier, his mom was an artist, which is why this house is so bizarre. It's like truly like every room is like a different art exhibit. So it's like walking through the hall, just sort of exploring the house, trying to figure out who's who.
Starting point is 00:49:33 He finds himself in a room that's like all filled with mirrors, all the walls are mirrors, like little mirror shards basically, like a mosaic. It's really fucking cool. But he walks into that room where he sees Nikki's body. And Nikki's body is inhabited by Maya's brain currently. So it's Maya and Nikki's body. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:55 So they start talking. We know that Cyrus is attracted to Nikki because there have been vibes and he had her video up when he was jerking off earlier. So he's pretty stoked to be alone in a room with Nikki's body, even though it's not Nikki, it's Nikki's body. Now, Maya, inside Nikki's body,
Starting point is 00:50:17 we learned that Maya and Ruben used to be a thing and she is still lusting after Ruben. So even though it's not actually Ruben, it's Ruben's body that she wants to get with. So, you know, they're getting closer and closer to each other talking about, isn't this so weird? Maya and Nikki's body goes like, this game is kind of hot.
Starting point is 00:50:38 And they start making out. And again, red film comes over the screen. We see it's actually Cyrus and Maya making out, but it's Ruben's bodies and Nikki's bodies. But Cyrus' brain wants to be making out with Nikki. Maya's brain wants to be making out with Ruben. So that's sort of like where they're all at. Maya inside Nikki's body is saying like,
Starting point is 00:50:58 tell me you love me, tell me you're gonna leave her for me, clearly thinking about Ruben and his fiance. Cyrus is saying to, in his mind, like looking at Nikki being like, "'Yes, I love you. "'Yes, I'm gonna leave her for you.'" They're making out up against a wall
Starting point is 00:51:15 and Ruben's body, Cyrus, goes like, "'Ow!' He cut himself on like a mirror shard, basically in this mirror room, which breaks them up for a minute. Just then, Maya's body walks in, doesn't see them making out, but like it's enough to sort of stop
Starting point is 00:51:33 anything else from happening, because Nikki looks at Maya's body, but it's actually Maya in Nikki's body. And she's like, whoa, that's so trippy. I'm like looking at my body walk in the room. That's so weird. Gets like distracted by that. Wants to go leave the room and explore that.
Starting point is 00:51:53 Cyrus and Ruben's body wants to keep making out with Nikki's body. And it's like, oh no, come back. Yeah, that's so weird. Let's like talk about it together. And she's like, no, I'm gonna go. Kind of weirded out the moment, it's over. So, yeah, Cyrus in Ruben's body keeps wandering the house.
Starting point is 00:52:13 We're still following him. He finds himself in a room with Ruben, who's in his body. Ruben's in Cyrus's body. And Shelby, his girlfriend, is in Brooke's body and they're laughing and talking and having a really fun time in these other bodies, just sort of being like, this is crazy.
Starting point is 00:52:32 They think they're talking to Forbes because that's who's pinned to Ruben's body. And Shelby starts talking shit on Cyrus talking about how they're like never having sex. And he she always catches him jerking off and he's like such a wet blanket and like won't.
Starting point is 00:52:49 And mind you, she's high now because she's in Brooks body. But she doesn't realize she is saying all this to Cyrus. But she's having the time of her life. They go back into the living room to end the round. So they end it, they reset it. everyone's back in their own bodies now. And they are all like, that was so fucking awesome. Oh my God, that was so fun. I loved that game. Holy shit.
Starting point is 00:53:13 Everybody except for Cyrus, who's like really fucking upset. But nobody knows who he really was. Once they're all back in their own bodies, Forbes looks over at Cyrus and like winks at him, like our little secret. And they're all just like talking about how great that round was. Once they're all back in their own bodies, Forbes looks over at Cyrus and like winks at him, like our little secret. And they're all just like talking about how great that round was. Shelby's like, Forbes, I actually do want you to show me
Starting point is 00:53:31 how the machine works. That's like, that's so crazy. I want to learn more about it. Nikki's talking to Forbes about how like, oh my God, this is actually amazing. It's gonna really change people's lives. Like you couldn't inhabit another race, you know? Like you can like see the world
Starting point is 00:53:43 from somebody else's perspective. That's like really important. Cyrus then pulls Shelby aside and is like, whoa, like how was that for you? And she's like, that was really fun. I had a really good time. And he's like, tell me why? Like what was so fun about it for you?
Starting point is 00:53:57 Like, I just want to know like what about it was so fun. And she's like, I don't know. It's just like, it felt really cool. And he's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, but like why though? Like what? Tell me exactly what happened and what you said. Yeah, like who were you with? What'd you do?
Starting point is 00:54:10 Like, what'd you say to somebody? And she, yeah, but she's like, I know, I just, you were right, it was a good idea. Like it really shook things up. I thought it was really fun. Has anyone asked like, what happens if I get stuck in this body? Is it possible to get stuck?
Starting point is 00:54:23 No. No one's asked that. No, and maybe they'll learn. Dennis then approaches Forbes and is like, hey, by the way, man, we haven't had a moment to talk. I just wanna like, I wanna apologize for, you know, everything that happened that night. And, you know, me and Ruben going and talking to the Dean,
Starting point is 00:54:41 like we didn't know it was gonna get you expelled. And I'm really sorry about that. And Forbes is like, oh, you and Ruben. It was you and Ruben. Oh, okay. Okay. And then it's like, oh yeah, but you know, we didn't know what was gonna happen.
Starting point is 00:54:53 It was a long time ago. Like, I really am sorry about that. And I was like, oh yeah, yeah, all good, all good, all good. It's too little too late, my friend. They all really wanna go do round two. They're all chanting that, like round two, round two. Oh, these fucking idiots. And Forbes is like, we can do one more round after that.
Starting point is 00:55:09 Then the machine basically has enough juice to do one switch and one switch back. Then it's going to need to charge for 24 hours, but we can do another round. Okay. Everybody wants to do it except for Cyrus. Cyrus is like, I actually kind of have a headache. So I think I don't want to do the next round. And Dennis is like, oh yeah, you have So I think I don't want to do the next round.
Starting point is 00:55:25 And Dennis is like, oh yeah, you have a headache. You don't want to do the next round. And Cyrus like, shut up, man. Like don't do that shit. And Dennis is like, I didn't get to, you know, we got to go again, cause I didn't really get to get into character, you know? Like I feel like I didn't get to really, you know,
Starting point is 00:55:39 act out being another person. And Cyrus like, it's pretty obvious that you were four is because you kept using like words, like perfunctory that nobody, you were like clearly overcompensating, trying to act smart. We all know that you're like a fucking low life and you were just trying to act important. They start fighting. Everybody breaks them up. Shelby pulls Cyrus aside to try to calm him down. They start fighting cause he's like, I don't want to do the game again.
Starting point is 00:56:03 And she's like, now that I'm having fun, you don't want to do it. Like, I fucking did this for you. And now that I'm actually having a good time, you're trying to end it. And he admits to her, like, Forbes lied about who we were last round. Like, I was actually in Ruben's body. Forbes was in Tana's body. He lied. That feels really weird to me. Like, I don't know why he would do that.
Starting point is 00:56:22 Like, fine, I'll do it again. But let's come up with a signal, just you and me, so that we can know which body we're in, so that we're on the same page. Okay. Does she realize then that she just talked so much shit in front of him? I don't think she really, I don't know. She doesn't put it together. Okay.
Starting point is 00:56:37 Not really. She was stoned. Yeah. But she's like, oh, fine. Okay, fine. I'll do it. So the signal is like, you just like kind of rub your eyebrow. And she's like, okay, great. We'll do. I'll do it. So the signal is like you just like kind of rub your eyebrow.
Starting point is 00:56:45 And she's like, okay, great. We'll do that. Like then we'll know who we are. Great. Sit down, plug in again. Little electrodes on our temples. Flip a switch. Title card round two. We are a close up on Forbes' body, Forbes' face. And we see him doing, looking at everybody, making
Starting point is 00:57:07 eye contact with every single person doing the eyebrow thing. Nobody's doing it back. So we know immediately Cyrus is in Forbes' body and he's trying to find out where Shelby is, but nobody's responding to him. Cut to we see Nikki's body. She's in the mirror room looking in the mirror at, you know at Nikki's face saying back to herself, hey cutie, hey cutie. So we know that this is Shelby. Shelby has now been put in Nikki's body, what she's always wanted.
Starting point is 00:57:36 She takes a selfie, posts it to Nikki's Instagram, immediately is flooded with comments like, oh my God, you're so hot. I love you so much. Fuck you're the best, you're the hottest, you're so hot. I love you so much. Fuck, you're the best. You're the hottest, you're the coolest. Like thousands of likes immediately. And she's like, holy shit.
Starting point is 00:57:50 Immediately feeling the power of being in Nikki's body. We see Shelby's body, Brooke's body, and Dennis's body all hanging out in a circle talking. One of them tries to guess, like, let's guess who you are. And Shelby's body goes like, no, no, no. Isn't it like so much more fun if we don't know who's in whose body? And we, the viewer also don't know who any of these people are. Okay. So Shelby's body says that.
Starting point is 00:58:15 Shelby's body says that, but we don't know who's inside it, but they're like, let's not guess. Like, isn't that so fun? Let's like not know who we are. Forbes, maybe. But as they're talking, we see, we cut to like Dennis's body's vision, and we see Dennis's body looking at Maya's body with those same sort of like heart eyes, lusty. So that's Ruben.
Starting point is 00:58:38 Ruben. Ruben is in Dennis's body. And Ruben, which is Dennis. No, Dennis. Wait. Yeah. Dennis's body, which is Ruben, approaches Maya's body. Identity unknown. OK. And it's like, do you want to go up to the roof? Maya's body says, yeah. So they go up to the roof.
Starting point is 00:59:02 Meanwhile, Cyrus, who is in Forbes's body, is still trying to find Shelby. Wherever, whichever body Shelby is in. He's going around the house, looking for Shelby, comes outside to where Nikki's body is hanging out with Cyrus's body and Ruben's body. Cyrus slash Forbes talks to them for a minute and very quickly is like, oh, Shelby is in Nikki's body. He like figures it out. I will say one really cool thing about this movie, they're all doing such a good job of acting like the other people. Like each other.
Starting point is 00:59:31 Like it is very fun to see these actors all like try to inhabit the mannerisms and vibes of the other actor. Like, and they do a really good job. I love that in all body swap things. It's my favorite thing. It's so cool. When someone can do that well. And I really do think they're all doing it very well. And so, yeah, Cyrus immediately knows which one Shelby is. It's his girlfriend of eight years,
Starting point is 00:59:51 so he can point her out. So he pulls Nikki's body away from the group and into this shed that's nearby to talk. In the shed, Cyrus, in Forbes' body, does the eyebrow thing. Shelby, Nikki won't do it back., in Forbes' body, does the eyebrow thing. Shelby Nicky won't do it back. And Cyrus Forbes is like, why are you, like, come on. Like, I know it's you.
Starting point is 01:00:11 Why are you doing this? And she's finally like, oh, fine. Yes, it's me. Okay. I just like try and have a little bit of fun here. You're bringing down my fun. And they start having a fight and she immediately stops him and is like,
Starting point is 01:00:23 whoa, this is so weird. I can like see you in Forbes' body. Like I see you in Forbes. That's so wild. And she's getting turned on by it and they start making out and she tells him, it's like, just imagine it's like, I'm wearing a wig, that wig thing you wanted to do, like we're doing it. So they start making out and she tells him, it's like, just imagine it's like I'm wearing a wig. That wig thing you wanted to do, like we're doing it. So they start making out.
Starting point is 01:00:48 It's actually Cyrus and Nikki, or Cyrus and Shelby making out, but it's Forbes' body and Nikki's body. Yes. Meanwhile, Reuben in Dennis' body is on the roof with Maya, Maya's body. Mystery, mystery, mystery person. But there's a, Maya's body. We don't know who's in it. Mystery person. But there's some charge there, there's a spark. And Maya's body says to Dennis's body that Ruben is in,
Starting point is 01:01:16 like, you're liking being Dennis, aren't you? And he says, yeah, well, Dennis does whatever he wants. And she says, well, what do you want? And they start making out. So Dennis is in Maya's body. Dennis wants to make out himself. That would be fucking awesome. Honestly, I cannot believe that wasn't explored.
Starting point is 01:01:35 There's a couple things that I'm like. That was one of the big notes I heard was that there's like no exploration of any queer dynamics here. None at all, none at all. like no exploration of any queer dynamics here. None at all, none at all. No queer dynamics, nobody fucking themselves. I was really, unfortunately that is a missed opportunity, but it is Netflix after all. But when they start making out,
Starting point is 01:02:00 the red filter comes over the screen and we see that it is Brooke inside Maya's body. So Brooke and Reuben are making out, but it's Dennis' body and Maya's body. And they're like on this balcony type zone on the roof. So cut back to Cyrus, Forbes, and Shelby, Nikki, they're making out and it's getting they're like gonna start having sex It's clear that Shelby and Cyrus have not had sex in a while. So this will be the first for them and in a long time Shelby says call me Nikki So he is I mean he clearly is excited by that prospect and is calling her Nikki and is really into it and
Starting point is 01:02:44 she in return starts calling him Forbes. And as soon as she does that, he pulls away and is like, I don't wanna do this, this is too weird. And she's like, what the fuck? We haven't had sex in so long, I'm trying to do this thing for you. Like, do you really, like, this is, you can't even get past this to like, do what I want in this moment. They have a huge fight. He, like, this is, you can't even get past this
Starting point is 01:03:05 to like do what I want in this moment. They have a huge fight. He's like, I don't want to do this anymore. This is too weird. You wanted to fuck Forbes. Like I see it. She's like, you wanted to fuck Nikki. And they're like, just the most toxic couple ever
Starting point is 01:03:17 from the beginning. So they storm back into the main house. Meanwhile, cut up to the roof, we see the red filter, it's Brooke and Reuben. Now they're fully having sex on this balcony. Okay. And you better believe, we're looking at that balcony rotting.
Starting point is 01:03:40 It's like stone and it is cracking. Not the most solid foundation upon which to be rigorously fucking. Okay. So everybody else comes back into the house. Everybody's fighting with each other. It's chaos. Everybody's upset.
Starting point is 01:04:00 Cyrus in Forbes' body is like, I want to end the round. Like, let's call it like time to go back to our own bodies. When just then, from the roof, downfall, Dennis' and Maya's bodies, they fall onto a big ol' sculpture in the garden and get impaled. Oh, yuck. So... Dunzo bun garden and get impaled yuck
Starting point is 01:04:32 So done so bunzo or alive impaled no dead dead. Okay, everybody Horrified. Yeah, that's that comes out. That's a terrible timing terrible time terrible timing So we see then Shelby's body coming out staring at Maya's corpse Cyrus's body coming out, staring at Maya's corpse. Cyrus's body coming out, staring at Dennis's corpse. Staring at their own dead bodies, basically. So Maya is inside of Shelby's body. Dennis is inside of Cyrus's body, and they are looking at their bodies dead. Okay, and the real people who are dead are Brooke and?
Starting point is 01:05:03 Ruben. Ruben. Well, those consciousnesses. The groom. The groom's who are dead are Brooke and... Ruben. Ruben. Well, those consciousnesses. The groom. The groom's consciousness is dead. Yeah, those consciousnesses are dead. Are gone. But then Maya and Dennis are alive, but they don't have bodies. But they don't have bodies.
Starting point is 01:05:21 Whoa, this really sucks. Man, this sucks. This would suck so bad. This is not a good. This is what VR is for, folks. We can play this game in VR. Exactly, so cut to black, come back up. Okay, so let me just tell you who's left. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:39 So we have Cyrus in Forbes' body, Forbes in Ruben's body, Ruben's brain dead. We have Shelby in Nikki's body. We have Maya in Shelby's body, Maya's body dead. And we have- Nikki in whose body? Nikki in Brooke's body. Brooke's mind, dead.
Starting point is 01:06:08 Okay, so they're gonna kill Nikki. And then Maya can thrive in Shelby's body and Shelby can be Nikki, which is her lifelong dream. So. We've got the girls sorted, what are the boys gonna do? Cyrus, Cyrus in Forbes' body is coming up to Forbes and Ruben's body being like,
Starting point is 01:06:24 it switches back into our bodies. We have to end the run, you have to switch us back. Forbes is like, I can't, like, what are you talking, I can't do it. Like, what's done is done. Not really explaining that, but they're sort of like having their own moment. We see Maya and Shelby's body and Dennis and Cyrus' body just sort of like sitting on a bench processing the fact that their bodies are dead. And Nikki in Brooke's body is like, we have to call the cops. We, the longer we wait, the worse this gets.
Starting point is 01:06:53 They're all starting to fight about like, what are we supposed to do? Like, and they're like, how do we call the cops? Like, what do we say happen? Like, what the fuck are we supposed to do now? Cyrus in Forbes' body is like, here's what we need to do. We need to switch back. Everybody who has a body to switch back into needs to switch back into their body. Maya switches into Brooks body. Dennis switches into Ruben's body. Like that's just what has
Starting point is 01:07:19 to happen. Like everybody gets their body back. Sorry, Dennis, you're getting married tomorrow. Like, sorry that you just, that's like what, those are the only options. Dennis is like, I don't want to fuck that. Like is very traumatized and very upset. And it's like, why do you get to get back, go back into your body? And I have to go into Ruben's body.
Starting point is 01:07:37 And he's like, that's just what, like I'm sorry dude, this is how it has to be. And he's like, no, you like, fuck you. Why do you get to go back into your body? And I don't, maybe I want to stay in this body. Maybe I want to stay in your body. And he's like, no, like, fuck you. Why do you get to go back into your body? And I don't, maybe I want to stay in this body. Maybe I want to stay in your body. And he's like, okay, calm down. Like we all need to need to like take a beat.
Starting point is 01:07:52 They get in a huge fight and Dennis, Dennis and Cyrus's body, but Dennis's consciousness is like, well, you know what Cyrus, like I did cheat on Nikki in college with Beatrice fine I did hook up with Beatrice and you told Nikki because you wanted to get with Nikki and When you then asked her out and she rejected you you immediately started dating Shelby. So Like don't fucking talk to me and tell me what to do. They basically have paid each other all this time Of course, this is always something that comes out
Starting point is 01:08:25 in these movies is guess what? Everybody hates each other. Don't go to parties if you hate everybody there. Let's not party with people we hate. No, no, no, agreed, agreed. And who hate us? No. Shelby, who is in Nikki's body,
Starting point is 01:08:37 is clearly hearing this for the first time. She's maybe suspected that he was into Nikki, but like this is the first time she's hearing, yes, in fact, I was like, just the next available person when he couldn't get who he wanted. So she's looking really upset. Cyrus, in Forbes' body, retaliates at, back at Dennis, calling him a lowlife, being like,
Starting point is 01:08:57 you haven't fucking made anything of yourself. Who cares what body you're in? Like, you're just gonna get all your money and like, live your stupid bullshit life. Like, go take Ruben's body, who fucking cares. So, Dennis and Cyrus's body takes out Cyrus's phone and calls the cops and says, my name is Cyrus Blomquist, and I just pushed two people off the roof. Whoa, here's our address. Here's where you can find me. What?
Starting point is 01:09:24 What? Really wild thing to do while you're still in that body and might remain in that body. our address, here's where you can find me. What? What? Really wild thing to do while you're still in that body and might remain in that body. Nobody's really thinking correctly in this moment. A lot of, yeah, big swings. So, meanwhile, Nikki and Brooke's body is like,
Starting point is 01:09:43 we need to switch back, We need to switch back. Wait, where's Forbes? And they see that Forbes and Ruben's body has started to run off with the machine. Nikki goes after him, knocks him out. So I should just like. So then Nikki and Brooke's body and Cyrus and Forbes' body are carrying Forbes in Ruben's body back into
Starting point is 01:10:05 the house being like, we just need to force him to switch us back. Because these two want to get back in their own bodies. This is actually Cyrus and Nikki. And they're like, we just need to force Forbes to switch us back. Those two can fucking deal with it. Like, sorry, they don't have bodies anymore. What's done is done. As they're bringing Forbes and Ruben's body in to do this,
Starting point is 01:10:25 Shelby in Nikki's body says, I don't want to switch back. And Nikki in Brooke's body is like, the fuck do you mean you don't want it? You have to, like, that's my body, I want it back. And Shelby's like, no, you don't get to have it back. Why do you get to have it back? I like it here, you don't get to have it back. Why do you get to have it back? I like it here. I want to keep it.
Starting point is 01:10:48 So it's just a room full of psychopaths, full, pure psychopaths. This room full of full, pure psychopaths. Nikki in Brooke's body is like, well, you can't hijack my body just because you fucking hate yourself. Like, sorry, that's your problem. And Shelby in Nikki's body is like,
Starting point is 01:11:06 you think you're so fucking important, you post pictures of yourself for a living. All this charity work you think you care about, she pulls out her phone and pulls out text messages where she's like complaining to a friend, like, oh, do I really have to like do this other charity partnership? It's so boring, like who really cares about that?
Starting point is 01:11:21 And is revealing that to everybody. Nikki in Brooke's body slaps her across the face. Shelby and Nikki's body runs out of the room. Okay, hold on. You're doing great. No, you're doing, I mean, this is like master class. Thank you so much. This is really hard.
Starting point is 01:11:39 Expert level TSDW. It couldn't be harder than this. Okay, so. But I have to tell you, I am so locked in. I'm so locked in. I was gonna say, Henley, you're doing so well understanding. You're doing really well. Because I've seen this movie and even I am like,
Starting point is 01:11:54 wait, what? Sometimes like, you're locked in. You're locked in. Meanwhile, they all kind of need to regroup. Cyrus in Forbes' body and Nikki in Brooke's body both still want to switch back into their own body. So they tie up Reuben in Forbes' body so that they can like force him to switch them back. He's still unconscious. Sorry, Forbes in Reuben's body. Thank you. He's still unconscious. And Cyrus in Forbes' body goes to find Shelby
Starting point is 01:12:23 in Nikki's body to try to convince her to switch back into her own body. Finds her in that same mirror room that he was in earlier. She's in that room sitting with Maya in her own body. So it's Shelby's body that Maya is in and Nikki's body that Shelby is in. Cyrus in Forbes body comes in and finds them, starts trying to talk to Shelby, convince her to change back into her own body.
Starting point is 01:12:56 She says to him, like, do you really like not, you don't want me at all, do you? Like I was a consolation prize. Are you like so unattracted to me that you like never want to have sex with me? Like we're so broken. She's crying, she's really upset. He's trying to plead with her like, I'm sorry, I'm really fucked up.
Starting point is 01:13:14 It's me, it's not you. I love you. I would be nothing without you. And like, you know what? Like let's spend the rest of our lives together. Like I actually, I think we should, once we switch back into our own bodies, like, I think we should talk about getting married.
Starting point is 01:13:27 And he looks over at Shelby's body, Maya and Shelby's body, and was like, this is the face that I want to look at every day. Like, this is the face that I love. It's, it's not Nikki's face. It's this face. Like, please, I want you back in your body and then let's talk about getting married. We first finds her in that room. He does say like, you should be careful in this room,
Starting point is 01:13:46 I cut myself in here earlier. Okay. He's talking to Shelby and Nikki's body. Maya and Shelby's body is meanwhile having this realization and she says, when did you cut yourself in here? And she realizes, cause she was the one making out with Ruben's body that she thought was Forbes and is now realizing it was Cyrus. And she says, you were on Ruben's
Starting point is 01:14:13 body first round, weren't you? You were lying. It was you in here. You were making out with Nikki's body. You do want Nikki, which is, you know, not great timing. Meanwhile, Nikki in Brooke's body wakes up, Forb in Ruben's body, brings him back to consciousness and is like, you need to switch us back. Like Shelby in my body is going nuts. Like we just need to, I need you to do this for me. Shelby comes back in to the room in Nikki's body and is like, we're not switching back.
Starting point is 01:14:46 And she plays a selfie video that she just took as Nikki where she's like, hey cuties, really quick, just wanna say fuck all those charities that I work with. It's really stupid and honestly, who cares? I just wanna be on here posting selfies so you guys can talk about how much you love me. And by the way, aren't we all over the Black Lives Matter movement?
Starting point is 01:15:02 I think we should stop talking about it. Anyway, love you cuties, Bye. And he's like hovering over the post button and it's like, I'm going to fucking post this. If you try to switch back into your own body, I'm going to like ruin you, which stops her for a minute. And Shelby and Nikki's body pushes Nikki and Brooks body out of the room, leaving Shelby's consciousness alone in the room with Forbes' consciousness. And Forbes' consciousness says to Shelby's consciousness, do you want to know what I would do if I was in your position?
Starting point is 01:15:39 Cut away. Shelby then in Nikki's body comes out, grabs Cyrus and Forbes' body, brings him outside and is like, okay, tell me what you want. Tell me what you truly want. This is our chance. I've talked with Forbes. Here's what we're going to do. I can stay in Nikki's body.
Starting point is 01:15:58 You can go into Ruben's body. We leave Dennis in your body. He goes to prison. And you and me, you Cyrus and me Shelby can run off together as Ruben and Nikki and spend the rest of our lives together. Is that what you want? Tell me honestly, is that what you want? And he just goes, fine, yes, I'll do it.
Starting point is 01:16:22 Let's do that. Big decisions are being made tonight. Big decisions. Big. They should make a really good reality TV show. Like if they could figure out how to do this and we would just use this technology for reality TV shows. I feel like it kind of-
Starting point is 01:16:35 I hope they never figure it out. Endlessly interesting. It's like, what's that one where everyone's in their own room and they're pretending to be other people? Love is blind? No. No idea.
Starting point is 01:16:46 The mole or something? I don't know. So we could keep naming things, who knows if we'll ever get at it. Keep going, I'll figure it out. Okay, so- Oh, it's the circle, sorry. Oh, yep, it's the circle.
Starting point is 01:17:00 Anyway, Nikki in Brooke's body, meanwhile, is untying Forbes in Ruben's body. She has her own plan about what they're gonna do. We hear in the distance meanwhile, this house is like pretty remote. We hear far enough in the distance that we have several minutes, but close enough to know that cops are coming.
Starting point is 01:17:18 Cops are coming. So time is running out for us to make this decision. So Nikki in Brooke's body goes to find Dennis in Cyrus's body and is like, they are trying to take my body. We need to be together on this. I have a plan. Here's what we're going to do. And we cut to red filter so we can like every now and again, we're doing red filters. We can see who's actually talking to each other. So it's actually Nikki and Dennis talking to each other. And she says, here's what we're gonna do. I go back into my body.
Starting point is 01:17:47 We incapacitate Shelby, we put her back in her body. I get my body back. Maya goes into Brooke's body. You go into Forbes' body. And Dennis is like, I have to be fucking Forbes? Like, I don't wanna be Forbes. And she's like, just take all your money, take the machine, go swap with whoever the fuck you want.
Starting point is 01:18:06 You could be an astronaut. You could be a Jared Leto. You could be whoever, you just take somebody else's body, take all your money and go have fun. You can do whatever the fuck you want. That's Jared Leto. I know. Terrible decision, terrible option.
Starting point is 01:18:18 Meanwhile, the cops are like very, very nearly approaching. So back in the living room, we get to the machine. Shelby in Nikki's body, Maya in Shelby's body, Cyrus in Forbes' body are setting the machine up to do the swap that they want to happen because Forbes showed Shelby how to use the machine. So she set it up, Nikki in Brooke's body and Dennis in Cyrus' body and Forbes in Ruben's body all stormed back in.
Starting point is 01:18:48 Nikki in Brooke's body is like, I'm not letting you, like, Forbes is gonna reset the machine. I don't trust you. Shelby's like, no, no, no, we changed our minds. Like, I'm taking my body. Everyone's taking their own bodies back. Like, don't worry.
Starting point is 01:18:58 Nikki's like, I don't fucking believe you. And nothing's happening until Forbes takes a look at the wiring. And to ensure this, she takes out a jar of peanut butter and swipes peanut butter over Nikki's mouth, Nikki's body's mouth, her own body's mouth. And they're all like, the fuck are you doing? And this is a little snippet of information we heard earlier, but it's sort of like passed by the wayside. She goes, oh, I'm deathly allergic to peanuts and I have an EpiPen,
Starting point is 01:19:30 but I'm not telling you where it is unless you let Forbes look at the wiring and make sure I get back in my own body. And we see we do the red filter and we see Shelby is dying now inside of Nikki's body. Nikki's body is going into anaphylactic shock. So they're all freaking out. It's absolute fucking chaos because also meanwhile, Dennis, who's in Cyrus's body, has found Dennis's phone. He's taking Dennis's phone off Dennis's body,
Starting point is 01:19:57 his own phone off of his own dead body, and is looking through it and is like, what the fuck, where's all my money? He's like, Cyrus, you were in my body round one, what the fuck did you do with my money? You took all my money. Starts attacking him. We know that it was actually Forbes in that body round one,
Starting point is 01:20:15 but he doesn't know that. But it's absolute chaos. Nikki's body is dying, which means Shelby's consciousness is dying. They're all screaming like, get the EpiPen, get the EpiPen. Nick is like, I'm not telling you where it is unless Forbes look at the wiring. The cops are knocking at the door like this. We need to do this right the fuck now.
Starting point is 01:20:34 So they're like, fine, fine, fine. Forbes and Ruben's body takes a look at the switchboard, moves a few wires around. Nikki says the EpiPen is in my right boot. When we switch back, somebody give it to me. Because as soon as she switches back in her body, she's going to be out. Right. The cops bust through the door as they flip the switch, ending this round. Cut to black. And we get across the screen, Coda. Cut to a woman we recognize as Beatrice, with a big black eye,
Starting point is 01:21:09 like absolutely speeding down the highway, screaming, freaking out. She like gets in a little fender bender with someone and screaming them like, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, just like trying to get back in the car, driving, racing towards, we see her pull up, this is the next morning,
Starting point is 01:21:24 pull up at the hashtag Rufia house. This is Forbes' little sister. This is Forbes' little sister, Beatrice. Okay, but Forbes' consciousness is in Beatrice. Beatrice was Forbes that whole time. We don't know. Rushing in, like walking past people are like taking down wedding preparations.
Starting point is 01:21:45 We see a bride sitting like tear stained, you know, down her face being consoled, rushing through Beatrice locks eyes on Forbes's body tackles him. And he's like, Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Like what's going on? What's going on? And, and quickly Beatrice is like, Dennis. And he's like, yeah, how'd you know it was me? And she's like, do you know who I am?
Starting point is 01:22:08 And he's like, yeah, you're, yes, you're Beatrice. And she goes, no, I'm Forbes. And then he is very good at this. I know, you've been calling it. I did all, I was shocked by all of these twists when I- Me too. Watched it. Me too.
Starting point is 01:22:23 So, Forbes inside Beatrice's body is like, it's been Beatrice with you the whole time. Beatrice took my body and has been here the whole time. And this is all your fucking fault. Dennis in Forbes' body is like, how is this my fault? Says, don't you remember the party? Cut back to the memory of the party. And we do red filters,
Starting point is 01:22:48 so now we're seeing Forbes talking to Dennis, being like, you had been hooking up with my sister for months. Oh no. Which I didn't know at the time. You'd been hooking up with her for months, you made her a bunch of promises, you said you were gonna be together.
Starting point is 01:23:01 And yes, she does have like mental illness she had already been having episodes but she made her all these fucking promises get to this party you're going around telling everyone that she's crazy and that nothing ever happened you're denying that anything ever happened so she got wasted at that party and then guess what she did have an episode but it's because they were like gaslighting her and denying her and telling her she was insane also she had like thought you were in love with her so yeah she got really drunk she had a huge breakdown she got institutionalized and put on suicide watch I got expelled
Starting point is 01:23:37 and you know she's been really unwell for years and years and years and I have felt responsible and every time I have felt responsible. And every time I come home, my parents are like, you need to look after your sister, you need to look after your sister. So when I came back in town for this wedding, I brought this machine that I've been working on and I thought if I showed it to her, it would like really connect us. And if I explained to her this machine and this game, we can maybe play this game. Turns out she was really fucking mad at me too. And as soon as we switched bodies,
Starting point is 01:24:07 and we're like seeing all this happen, she knocked him out, knocked out Forbes in her own body, explains the black guy, took the machine, came here as Forbes to enact her revenge on you, on me, on all of us. Okay, so it's Beatrice's revenge, not Forbes' revenge. Beatrice's revenge. That makes more sense, that makes more sense.
Starting point is 01:24:31 So Forbes and Beatrice's body now says, so just so I'm clear, what the fuck happened here? So cut to, we now see Cyrus' body in prison. I mean, he's like just been arrested, so he see Cyrus's body in prison. I mean, and he's like just been arrested. So he's not actually in like prison attire yet, but he's like behind a wall. He comes up to answer a phone on the other side. We see Shelby's body talking to him.
Starting point is 01:24:56 And at first we're like, this is clearly, this is Cyrus and Cyrus's body. And he's like, Shelby, is that even you? Like you need to get me out of here. You need to like explain what happened that it wasn't me. I didn't say this. And Shelby's body is like, you were really, really high and you don't remember what happened.
Starting point is 01:25:12 And you did push them off through. If we were just playing a game and you took it, like you took it too far. You didn't know what was happening. And he's like, what the fuck are you talking? Like, you can't be Shelby. Who are you? Like, Shelby wouldn't do this to me.
Starting point is 01:25:24 Like, you can't be Shelby. Who are you? Like, Shelby wouldn't do this to me. Like, you can't be Shelby. She's like, I am Shelby, and this is really what happened. He's like, tell me something that would prove that like, that you're Shelby, that only Shelby would know. Cut away, and we see Dennis and Forbes' body explaining what happened in the moment where like that things got switched to Forbes and Beatrice's body.
Starting point is 01:25:49 He's like, so when Beatrice and Ruben's body rearranged the wires at the end there before the cops came in, I think things got a little messed up and Nikki ended up in Ruben's body. We're seeing this all in red filter that the switch got flipped. We see Nikki inside Ruben's body. Maya ended up in Brooke's body. I ended up in your body. Beatrice, in Dennis's body round one,
Starting point is 01:26:20 transferred all of his money to an offshore account. Nice. Switched herself into Nikki's body at the end, drove off with the money and the machine. So Shelby is in her own body and Cyrus is in his own body. And we cut back to actual Shelby talking to actual Cyrus being like, I'm Shelby and I know that you never wanted to be with me. You only got with me because I was the only person around
Starting point is 01:26:45 when you couldn't have Nikki. You've spent our entire relationship lying to me, not wanting you make me feel like shit. And you deserve to rot in prison for what you've done. Go fuck yourself. What? End of movie. What?
Starting point is 01:27:01 Shelby, my God. I know we've all been wronged, but Jesus Christ. Shelby, my God, we've all been wronged, but Jesus Christ. Shelby, my dear Shelby. So this is my other biggest note with the movie is that Shelby, honey, it was played to, does it feel like it's played to be like, you're supposed to be like, whoa, yeah, Shelby. Yeah, fuck yeah, Shelby.
Starting point is 01:27:26 Yeah, oh, it's like a midsummer type of ending. Yes, Joel made the same point. Joel was like, it's like how some people have been like, did he really deserve the end of Midsommar? And I'm like, it feels so different than the end of Midsommar. Because we've watched, what's her name in Midsommar? I can only think Florence Pugh.
Starting point is 01:27:41 Danny. Danny. Under Ghost, just the most traumatic things a person can experience. Be in this place where all this surreal, extraordinary stuff is happening. She's being offered this very unique position, community, family. It's very, very different from a regular girl
Starting point is 01:28:01 whose boyfriend was shitty and being like, well, now you have to go to prison for murder. And also he was certainly shitty, but like he just- Not go to prison for murder shitty. Not go to prison for murder shitty. Like there's tons of relationships where the man is way shittier than this example
Starting point is 01:28:19 of him basically just having a crush on her friend the whole time. Yeah. Yeah. It's really fun though. I mean, Yeah. Yeah. It's really fun though. I mean, what a fun concept. It's really fun. I was so, I was so like,
Starting point is 01:28:30 I fucking love interpersonal dynamics. I mean, I've said it once, I'll say it a million times. Like, I just want to know who's feelings, feelings about other people, what they're going to do about it. Yeah. And it's done really well. It's like fun to watch.
Starting point is 01:28:44 It's really fun to watch these actors be each other. It's sometimes like very stylized in the filmmaking to a point where there are certain scenes. I mean, maybe only because I was having to take notes that I had to rewatch some like two or three times to be like the story about the party where it's like, this was, it did this, it all happens so fast too. They like talk.
Starting point is 01:29:02 Yeah, so that like, but it's really fun. It's an easy, quick watch. It's like, it's a really good time. I think it's like worth a watch. The actors are really good. Everybody has a really good job. Yeah, my notes are just that like, I don't, that's like, she turns into the biggest monster on planet Earth.
Starting point is 01:29:21 It wasn't like deserved. Like it wasn't, the payoff didn't actually make sense. No. The concept is prioritized and it's a great concept, but the characters are not super interesting. No. Nor are they people at all. Right. Right. So it feels like while it's very fun and satisfying to watch, it's also frustrating that I feel
Starting point is 01:29:44 like there could have been a better version of this movie. So I will not say the name of the TV show because it is like a massive spoiler. Like the biggest spoiler known to man. But there is a TV show that devotes the entire season to getting to know characters, getting to know backstories, building, building, building to like truly out of left field, like truly like the most, then this is the explanation and you're like, what? What?
Starting point is 01:30:23 What? Yeah. And I wish we could say the name of that show because everybody should watch that show, but I guess find your own way to it and figure it out. I don't want to say it because it would, it's like you have to watch like eight episodes before you find out that that's what's happening.
Starting point is 01:30:38 And it's like so not worth it. Like you gotta come to it on your own. You're gonna have to find that on your own. Yeah. Oh boy. Wow. But it's a fun time. Oh yeah, my other note was like,
Starting point is 01:30:51 it's played as if they are currently like 20 years old. I could maybe get more on board with actual 20 year olds being this stupid, but the fact that a single, and again, you gotta suspend your disbelief in horror movies. So I don't really know why I'm nitpicking, but I just kept being like, I cannot fathom a single person not being like,
Starting point is 01:31:05 okay, so how do we get, like, I would have been like, if we do this, which again, I never would, if we do this, I must have eyes on my physical body at all times. We must stay in this room seated on this couch. 100%. And we must have a time limit of like three minutes and then we're done.
Starting point is 01:31:21 Like, but I guess also the point is they all like wanted to escape their lives. They wanted to escape their bodies. They wanted to, you know, have fun with the not knowing, which again is like, I could maybe think that like 20 year olds might want to do this, but I really think the 30 year olds would be more scared. I'm so scared all the time. Yeah. Yeah. That is true. I could see how it would be a more fun concept for a TV show because, because there's so many characters, yeah, there's not really time given the like pace of to like keep it, keep it moving and keep it fun. Yeah. I mean, I think they could have had better characters, but I can see why it's like, there's less time to develop these characters. Yeah, we
Starting point is 01:32:02 have to just kind of focus on that one couple. But again, don't want to nitpick too hard because it's a really fun concept. It's executed very well visually and stylistically. I'd watch a sequel to this movie. Yeah, let's take this concept and do something else with it. I bet they will.
Starting point is 01:32:22 I mean, I think it did quite well. They should because it leaves it open enough. I mean, I think it did quite well. They should, because it leaves it open enough. I mean, that suitcase is still out there in the hands of a reckless person. So there's a possibility for a sequel. It's not like, it's not scary to watch, but oh my God, the idea of- It's more like stressful.
Starting point is 01:32:42 Yeah, and the idea of like, there are two people whose bodies are dead and you like can't, like you're alive, but you can't inhabit your body anymore is truly horrifying. It's so scary. It's so scary. It's so scary. And the, yeah, that's what I mean,
Starting point is 01:32:57 like the reality of like, I'm so curious about, they actually go back into these other people's lives and they don't get any of their family, any of their memories. It's like, it's so, it's so gnarly. It is so, so upsetting. And the idea of like, Nikki always being trapped in Ruben's body now where it's like not,
Starting point is 01:33:15 she's lost her body, she's lost her gender identity, she's lost her racial identity. It's like, it's fucking crazy. But we don't really get to respond to that. I don't know how we could, but. It's also kind of a like play on, oh, it could like solve racism. She was like, it's so cool.
Starting point is 01:33:34 Yeah. To like walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Uh-huh. Wow. But yeah, it would be really, I want, you know, bodies are hard in it. And sometimes I would trade some things my body does for somebody else's, but not really.
Starting point is 01:33:50 I really would like to stay in it. I want my body, but it also makes me think too hard about the fact that I'm in a body to begin with. And then it starts to really like- Yeah, your brain in a body. Yeah, I'm like, I'm imprisoned in my own body. I'm imprisoned in my own body. Yeah. I wanna be a fish. Yeah, I'm like, I'm imprisoned in my own body. I'm imprisoned in my own body. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:06 I wanna be a fish. Yeah. Oh man. Yeah, could you switch consciousness with a bird? Interesting. Yikes, I loved it. I loved it so much. Yeah, it's fun.
Starting point is 01:34:21 And Emily did such a good job on a really, really tricky one. It was really much. Yeah, it's fun. And Emily did such a good job on a really, really tricky one. It was really stressful. Yeah. But we got there. We got there and we had some fun. We hope you guys had some fun. We had some fun along the way.
Starting point is 01:34:37 We got there and we had some fun along the way. And that is really all we can do. So there it is. We'll watch the trailer, which will be on our Patreon. We'll do that after. But yeah, just again, I think everybody stay safe. Stay in your own bodies. Stay in your own bodies.
Starting point is 01:34:57 Stay in your own bodies. Stay safe, stay in your body. If someone offers to switch bodies, say no thank you and move right along. It is funny, cause I feel like I started the episode being like talking about how I feel very out of body this past week, and what an out of body movie. Not that out of body.
Starting point is 01:35:13 But yeah, we love you. We love you all very, very much. Love you so much. I love you, Emily. I love you, Henley. I love you, I love you. And forever and ever. No voices, really.

I was raised by a single mom and I don't have a relationship with my dad. And spoiler, I don't think I'm ever gonna have one with him because he's dead. But I promise you that's okay.
Starting point is 01:36:42 Because on my new podcast, I sit down with father figures like Bill Burr, Kenan Thompson, Adam Pally, Hassan Minaj, Tim Meadows, Andy Cohen, and many, many more. I get to ask them the questions I've always wanted to ask a dad like, how do I know if the guy I'm dating is the one? Or how can I change the oil in my car? Can you even show me that? Or better yet, can you help me perfect my jump shot?
Starting point is 01:37:04 I am so bad at basketball. Oh my gosh. Maybe I'm bad at basketball because I don't have a dad, but subscribe to Thanks Dad on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, or wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes drop every Monday. Hi, I'm Caleb Herron, host of the So True podcast now on HeadGum. Every week me and my guests get into it and we get down to what's really going on. I ask them what's so true to them, how they got to where they are in life, a bunch of other questions. And we also may or may not test their general trivia knowledge. Whether it's one of my sworn enemies like Brittany Broski or Drew Fualow or my actual biological mother Kelly, my guests and I are just after the truth and if we find it great
Starting point is 01:37:53 and if not, no worries. So subscribe to So True on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts or wherever you get your podcasts and watch video episodes on the So True with Caleb Heron YouTube channel. New episodes drop every Thursday. Love ya.
