Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a HeadGum Podcast. This is Emily, Henley, and Sammy, and you're listening to Too Scary, Didn't Watch. Hey everyone, welcome to Too Scary to Watch, bonus episode number two for the month of January 2025. Nothing, nothing bad going on in our country this week. What a month, nothing to say. Everything's great. Nothing to report.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Feeling good. Feeling mentally well. I feel so well. My feelings about the future, my hope for the future at an all time high. It's also, we're recording this, maybe the earliest we've ever recorded anything. So the combo of well and early, I'm well, I'm awake,
Starting point is 00:01:03 I'm ready to go. Seizing the day. Mm-hmm. Absolutely seizing it. I am very excited to tell you guys about this movie though. I... Uh-oh. I know. For the past couple days,
Starting point is 00:01:18 my anxiety has been pretty much through the roof. And this movie took my anxiety to levels never seen before. Whoa. In a way, was it like so, you were so anxious. Like a cathartic release. You actually became relaxed. No.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Damn it, damn it, damn it. But it was an interesting experience because yes, I do like to say that horror movies are a nice way to externalize some negative emotions and kind of release ownership of the, I'm not anxiety, I'm watching, I'm not feeling anxiety, I'm watching a stressful movie obviously. Right, right, right. It's because the movie. My anxiety is actually like, so regular for what's happening, for what I'm seeing.
Starting point is 00:02:10 This is actually like, I'm normal. I'm normal. It's meeting me where I am. Is that how you felt? It was, it was, it was, it was different. I think it was different than any other horror movie experience I've ever had.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Holy shit. That's big. All right, it only took us five and a half years. Wow. To find something new. I'll tell you what it is. This month's bonus recap is MADS, or maybe MADS, or maybe MAD-S,
Starting point is 00:02:45 the S is capitalized. Came out last year, 2024, written and directed by David Moreau, starring Milton Richet, Laurie Pavy, and Lucille Guillaume, streaming on Shudder, Shudder Original, shudder.com. Ooh, shudder.com. I saw this on a list of the best horror movies of 2024. And you know, I like to make my lists as well.
Starting point is 00:03:12 So I was doing my homework. I got to watch some of these movies I haven't seen. And threw this one on. And I mean, the closest experience is Evil Dead 2013, where it felt like a surge of adrenaline for 90 minutes straight, but somehow, and I'm not entirely sure why, Evil Dead 2013, I was like laughing and gleeful with the adrenaline like floating
Starting point is 00:03:47 around the room. Uh huh, roller coaster ride. Yeah. This was like, I'm in danger. Oh shit. Oh gosh. And it wasn't that I was scared, it was different from being scared. It was like my fight or flight was activated. You were like, no, I am, I just am in danger. That's just the circumstance. No,
Starting point is 00:04:05 no time for fear. That's just what's happening. Yes, yes, exactly. So I was in a kind of fight or flight mode for this whole movie. And then in, in taking notes for it, I watched it again. And so I watched it two nights in a row and I just feel pretty crazy because I'm anxious at I just feel pretty crazy because I'm anxious at rest. And then when watching this movie, it's somehow ramped up when I already feel stressed. So I can't wait to share it with you guys. I will not be able to, I don't think, relay that same feeling because part of it, or a lot of it,
Starting point is 00:04:48 is the direction of the movie. And I will tell you that this movie is filmed, a lot of it is because it is filmed all in one continuous shot. Whoa, okay. Oh my God. That definitely does something to your brain. It feels like it's really happening right in front of you. It feels very, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:02 It's happening now. It's really propulsive. It's constantly moving forward. You're with the characters in real time, the whole time. Camera instead of cuts is just like whipping and panning. And so there's that like frenetic energy to it. Oh my God, I'm getting stressed out
Starting point is 00:05:22 just like hearing you relay that. And this also reminds me, it bears repeating. I've said it once, I've said it a million times, but I'll repeat it again here. The reason I hate horror movies is because of the filmmaking. It is the filmmaking. The filmmaking is the thing that puts it over the edge.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Henley, host of horror movie podcast, hates horror movies and it's because of the filmmaking. But that's why I'm able to do the podcast because you can tell me the story and I'm able to like bear the story. Having to actually experience like the editing, the sound effects, the score, like that, I can't, it's a step, it's a thousand steps too far for me.
Starting point is 00:06:01 So yeah, anyway, thank you, Sammy. We can, I'm happy to share the burden of the plot. No thank you to knowing anything about the filmmaking. Yeah. That said, if you do like horror movies, you should watch this one and go into it blind. Pause and come back to this because it was really a unique experience
Starting point is 00:06:24 and I'm really in awe of the filmmaking of it. I mean, a single shot of this. Caliber wild. I wonder how many times they did it. I can tell you how many times they did it. They the director, David Moreau, said they they shot it five times. This is the fifth take. Holy shit. Wow. Wow.
Starting point is 00:06:44 So they just did the movie five times. This is the fifth take. Holy shit, wow. Wow, so they just did the movie five times. Yeah, and it's a 90 minute movie, or maybe a couple minutes less, but there are, I did see a- I wonder how many rehearsals. I know, I had a lot more questions. This is a French film, and I couldn't find tons of information on it, and I did't find tons of information on it.
Starting point is 00:07:05 And I did see a few reviews that mentioned some hidden cuts, but there's a quote from the director himself saying, no, it's all just one take. So maybe he's lying. Cause there are a few moments where it's, you know, in movies where they're trying to cheat one takes, usually there's a scene where someone goes through like a dark hallway or something and turns a corner.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Yeah, you can hide a cut there. And there are a couple of moments like that. But I don't know, the director said that it is all one take. But either way, I mean, it's still really... Either way, it's one of those five only where they did the whole thing all the way through. So like- Yeah, exactly. So, so much pressure on the actors.
Starting point is 00:07:50 I mean, everyone to like make sure you don't fuck up. Like, don't fuck up. I feel like from an acting perspective, it's like kind of like doing a play. The thing that would stress me out the most if I was like on a set like that is, yeah, all the technical elements. Even in front of the camera. Those are the things that have to.
Starting point is 00:08:07 I think I'd be most stressed to be a cinematographer. I think camera op would be, or to be assistant camera operator. Anyone who's like, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God. I don't have any size or power here and if I fuck up one little thing, this whole thing is ruined. I've been a focus puller before.
Starting point is 00:08:26 That would be so stressful. And it was incredibly stressful on the lowest stakes set possible. And so I, yeah, I think being a focus puller on this, even though there's not very much. I hope everybody was so nice. I hope so too. It has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, 78% on Metacritic and a 6.4 on IMDB.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Wow, get it together everybody. Staying true to its roots. What do we think about this movie? And I couldn't find any budget or there's no box office that didn't get released in box office. They went straight to Shudder. But you can presume it's pretty low budget. These are all these actors are,
Starting point is 00:09:12 this is one of the first things, if not the first thing they've ever been in. Whoa. And they're all incredible in it. Wow. I'm only picturing Mads Mikkelsen just so you know. Same, same. Every time you sent this movie, I was likeuring Mads Mikkelsen. Same. Every time you sent this movie I was like, Mads Mikkelsen.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Right, I know Mads. Every time I Googled anything about it, I was like, Mads trivia. It's like Mads Mikkelsen trivia. Seven facts about Mads Mikkelsen. I'm not upset to learn that either. I would learn that. God, I love that. Give me more.
Starting point is 00:09:41 I love that Mads. Love that guy. Love that Mads as well. But yeah, so didn't find much more trivia than that. But I'm excited for you guys to see this trailer. Oh no. Oh God, we're watching that trailer. I have to pull it up right now. Hold on. The trailer is pretty adrenaline filled as well.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Okay. So let's get this little morning jolt. Yeah, that sounds great. Wake me right up. I'm going to kill you! I'm going to kill you! I'm going to the destination of the end of the world. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Are you fucking kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me? Oh no. Are you fucking kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me? That was done in one shot.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Isn't that insane? It's like, it's truly, I wish that it, it's, I wish that everybody could watch it because it is like a true feat of filmmaking. It's like so unbelievably impressive. And I wouldn't- I'll tell Joel to watch it. Yeah, tell Joel to watch it because it's really something special, but it is just like also the most stressed
Starting point is 00:11:34 I've probably ever been watching a movie. You might know why I want to. But do you see what I mean of kind of like, there's not really even time to be scared. You're just like, oh! Just stress, just stress, just stress. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:47 There's also something about, there's something about like teens doing drugs or like early 20 somethings doing drugs. That's just like, is so scary because- It's so scary. Drugs are so scary. I know, could have been me, could have been me. Like it's like-
Starting point is 00:12:02 It could not have been me. I know, I'm like- I'll say it here, I'll say it. Everybody knows it could not have been me. It would, I'm like. I'll say it here, I'll say it, everybody knows it could not have been me. It would never have been me. Drugs are so scary, don't put them anywhere near me. And you're so right. I mean, you're 100% right.
Starting point is 00:12:12 The idea of being like, I don't know what this is, let me sort it up my nose. Let me put it into my body. I wouldn't even sort it up my nose if I knew 100% what it was. Like I don't, I can't. Which is good. That's a good thing. Which is good. That's a good thing. Which is good.
Starting point is 00:12:26 That means you're a healthy person. It's also lame. It's not lame. But drugs are so scary to me. I know. They're so fun. That is the, I don't know how my parents managed to pull it off.
Starting point is 00:12:35 That is the one thing. Maybe everybody with kids who doesn't want their kids to do drugs should talk to my parents and figure out how did you make Emily so scared of drugs? How did you do it? Cause I'm so scared of them. Yeah. They're so scary. They're I'm so scared of them. They're so scary.
Starting point is 00:12:46 They're really scary. They are scary. They're objectively scary. I mean, the fact that they're laced with shit you don't know and now there's a whole thing with nitrous oxide. They alter your perception of reality. They completely alter your perception of reality. Yes. Now, I'm not scared of alcohol, which I probably should be. Yeah. I mean, alcohol does a lot of damage
Starting point is 00:13:07 and kills a lot of people as well. Things that get like ingested in a way that normal, that I'm used to doing. I'm like, well, that's, how about that? How about that? That's the same way I drink water. Right. What, are you telling me I can't drink water now?
Starting point is 00:13:21 Well, alcohol, you know what's in it. You know what's gonna happen. It's all like, it's regulated. It's been around for a really long time. These drugs, these drugs, you don't really know what's in there. You don't really know. Oof, oof, oof, oof drugs are scary.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Yikes. This movie is crazy. Maybe I'll just make Silas and Mae watch this movie. That's what you do. When they're like 11 and 13, I'll sit them down and I'll say, we're gonna have family movie night, you guys. No, what you have to do is you have to have it. Don't look away.
Starting point is 00:13:59 You have to have it just on the TV. Just lying around. So they find it on their own. Don't watch that. Don't watch this, you can't watch this. Good idea. You can't see it. Good idea.
Starting point is 00:14:11 See, if there's one thing, if I have one rule, it's you can't watch Mads. Wait, this is why. But I always have the DVD just like on the table. It'll be a DVD. See this? Not for you. This is why you guys are May's godmothers,
Starting point is 00:14:22 because I need, you're gonna have to, you'll be. I'll figure out how to make May scared of drugs. Exactly I need, you're gonna have to, you'll be- I'll figure out how to make May scared of drugs. Exactly, Emily, you're gonna have to figure that out. You're gonna have to, you're single-handedly responsible. I am abdicating responsibility as her mother, but you as her godmother. That's fair, you've got a lot of other responsibilities. Also announcement, we're May's godmothers.
Starting point is 00:14:39 I know. We haven't said that on the podcast yet. Yay! Yay! And when this episode comes out, we will be on our way to Connecticut. To see our girls baptism. To see our goddaughter. So some good news.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Yes, some very good news. In this world, but let's get back to some bad stuff. Oh my God. Okay, yeah, let's just fucking go. This is another one that I'm like, wouldn't be me. I know, that's the thing is it's like, I'm like, could have been me. Presumably there are some other victims present here
Starting point is 00:15:14 who didn't participate in this. Sure, sure, but. That's the thing, that's what I was gonna say about Evil Dead is it's like, that wouldn't have been me. I'm not gonna go to a remote cabin ever again. I feel like you go to cabins more than we do. Literally I'm going to a remote cabin this weekend, so I take that back.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Yeah. I feel like you will then. Well don't read any mysterious books. Bring your own books Henley, for the love of God. We're gonna be watching. It's something written in a different language and looks like an old ancient tome. We will not be reading that.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Don't read any tomes. We are watching Great Pottery Throwdown. Love it. We are watching All Creatures Great and Small, the PBS mini series about a small town veterinarian clinic. We are puzzling. There's a veterinarian on season one of Pottery Throwdown. Oh, there, which one's a veterinarian?
Starting point is 00:16:06 Oh, incredible. I think his name is Johnny. I gotta watch the show. Oh, he's a vet. Oh, I didn't realize that. Yeah. It's a great show. Okay, fine.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Okay. Fine, we gotta do it. Okay, mads. Let's get this over with. Mads. Mads, let's do it. Anyone who has ever had to wear a bra knows how very difficult it is to be a veterinarian. We gotta do it. Let's get this over with. Mads. Mads. Mads. Let's do it. Anyone who has ever had to wear a bra
Starting point is 00:16:28 knows how very difficult it is to find one that is comfortable, that fits you well, that works for the outfit you wanted to work for, that you can actually wear all day. Particularly, I, as someone with a smaller chest, have a very hard time finding a good push-up bra. I don't need to push a lot up. Just sometimes I want that little extra lift,
Starting point is 00:16:46 that little extra something, but I am thrilled to say that I have found a push-up bra that fits me well and that I love with skims. I in particular really love the push-up plunge bra that is wireless. I personally, again, don't have a lot to work with. I don't need that underwire for extra support. I love that this bra is comfortable enough without it. It gives that perfect little amount of lift, of push-up. It doesn't feel like I'm stuffed with padding. It doesn't feel like it is not me in there, but it gives me just that little extra something for the days that I want or need it. I also truly love that Skims has so many sizes. They go from 30A to 44H. So all of our different body types, all of our different equally wonderful body types can hopefully find a bra that fits
Starting point is 00:17:32 and works for you. Shop Skims Ultimate Bra Collection and more at skims.com and Skims LA flagship on Sunset Boulevard. Me Undies, comfort from the outside in. We begin with a drug deal happening. We meet Roman buying, I'm gonna call him Roman, buying a mysterious drug from his drug dealer.
Starting point is 00:19:45 It looks like cocaine, but it's red. And he's snorting it and asks the drug dealer what's in this. Drug dealer says, I don't know, I don't cook it up. Awesome. Wouldn't be me. This wouldn't be me. No, no, certainly not.
Starting point is 00:20:05 It was not. Someone presents you with red powder and goes, I don't know. Certainly not. Roman looks to be probably about 18 to 22, either college or college. Perfect age to think about. And so he's snorting some lines and he's feeling good. He's dancing, he's hyped and he heads out, he pays for his drugs and he's like, all right, I'll go into a party, see you later.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Walks out to his car. Gonna go to a crowd of people. Huge crowd of people. Give as many people this drug as possible. And he's again, just picture this all one take, he like goes out of the house, he's dancing as he walks to his car, gets in the car, it's convertible, starts driving. So this, I won't get into this too much. Is it in the countryside-ish? It looks suburban. There are fields, but then there's little pockets of houses.
Starting point is 00:21:14 A place for a party. Yeah. He's driving down the road, cameras following in another car, I presume, just it's already so crazy. He turns a corner to go onto the highway and as he turns, the title is on the road in front of him, so it like comes into frame, just like one of the sickest title reveals I've ever seen. And it stays there and he kind of drives through it. It's almost as if it's this like huge statue in the road in front of him.
Starting point is 00:21:55 And he drives through the middle of it. I love that. Really, really cool. And he's smoking a cigarette, which he drops into his lap and he's going like, oh, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, trying to put it out, burning the seats. He pulls the car over to get the cigarette out. And I think he says something like, my dad's going to be mad.
Starting point is 00:22:18 We find out that this is his dad's car. But he gets the cigarette out and he's looking at the seat where there's a cigarette burn now and going like, oh, fuck. Just then we hear a bang on the hood of the car and he looks up over the windshield to the hood of the car and there is a person hidden down in front of the hood, crouched down just their head and hands looking over the hood of the car. My God.
Starting point is 00:22:48 And he's like, also like the drugs are in full effect. He's like slapping himself like blinking to see like, am I imagining this? And he's like, what the fuck is that? What is that? And then this person crawls over and gets in the passenger side of the car. We see that it's a woman. She's in a hospital gown with bandages wrapped around her head, bandages around her fingertips. She's not speaking. She's just kind of like grunting and seems very distressed and reaches over and grabs the keys and turns the car engine on with the vibe of like, let's go,
Starting point is 00:23:33 let's go drive, drive, drive. He takes the keys out. He's like, what the fuck? What is going on? Are you okay? Are you in trouble? I should call the police." He dials whatever French 911 is and they're like, oh, stay there. We'll send the police. Then he's like, fuck, I'm on drugs. Police, no,
Starting point is 00:23:52 no, no, no. Hangs up. He's like, I'll drive you to the hospital and drop you off. So he starts the car and he's driving. she's sitting like crouched in the passenger. She's not sitting in it like in a normal seatbelt type of way. She's crouched in this very like animal pose. That just reminds me of unrelated, but when we record, where are your guys' feet? Oh. On the ground?
Starting point is 00:24:22 Yeah, on the ground. Well, my feet are crossed right now. So like you sit like a person in a chair, regular style. Yeah. I sometimes put my feet up on my drawers. If if especially if bunk is on my lap, because he's heavy and he needs more support. Where are your feet, Emily? Up on the chair.
Starting point is 00:24:46 I realized recently that when I'm home, my knees are always, I'm always sitting, like I'm always sitting like crouched with my feet up like close to my center. Like, Emily, you're not gonna like this. I sometimes crouch when I'm driving. I have one leg up and one leg. Okay, okay. No, no, me too. I sometimes crouch when I'm driving. I have one leg up and one leg. Me too. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:25:06 No, no, me too. I realize recently like I can't. Obviously one of the feet is on me. One of the feet is driving. And the correct, usually, usually, it's the correct foot for me. I don't know what it is. I just realized like I can't,
Starting point is 00:25:19 like I've tried to like sit normal. I don't think, I just like, obviously I do when I have to, you know, like in public and like at a restaurant and stuff, but it's like weird. I like have a really hard time sitting with like, I don't know. I mean, yeah. I mean like sometimes my knees hurt
Starting point is 00:25:35 and so I have to extend my legs, but I like don't, I feel like so uncomfortable. Yeah. Anyway, I was like, I pictured her crouching and I was like, that's probably how I would wanna be. Like that sounds great. That sounds safe. That sounds safe.
Starting point is 00:25:48 That sounds nice, knees up, up in my shoulders, like under my arms. That's how I want my knees. Protector center. That is exactly how she's sitting, but now we're speeding to the hospital cause he's panicking. So, and she's looking around like she's expecting
Starting point is 00:26:04 to be pursued by somebody and she's looking around like she's expecting to be pursued by somebody. Other cars are overtaking them. This is just like a two-lane highway. There's other cars around and every time another car passes, she looks terrified. She's whipping her head back and forth, just so scared. terrified. She's whipping her head back and forth, just so scared. He's trying to talk to her. He says, do you understand me? Do you speak French? She's not saying anything. Eventually, she pulls out this tape recorder and presses play on it. We hear a man's voice say subject C39, a woman in her mid-20s, nationality unknown. We're hearing a woman screaming in the background, presuming this is her. The man's voice says, extraction of teeth and tongue complete for security reasons. She's pointing to her mouth going like, yeah, and this guy's like, I don't understand. I don't understand. I'm like, Roman, how do you not understand?
Starting point is 00:27:14 She has a tape recorder telling you everything you need to know. Yes. But it is like a very frantic, you know, overwhelming vibe. He's speeding, he's focusing on multiple things at once. And we hear the voice say contamination achieved after injections with retrovirus infected with blood or infected blood. And she's trying to, you know, get him to understand this information. He's like, what is that? What is that? What happened? What's going on? It's not good.
Starting point is 00:27:49 And she's looking more frustrated and doesn't know what to do. And she starts just banging her head on the dashboard extremely hard, bleeding everywhere. He's trying to stop her. He's swerving the car and still speeding. And he's like, what are you, what's going on? And then she opens the glove compartment
Starting point is 00:28:11 and fishes around and finds like a letter opener or something. And just start stabbing herself with it. And then she collapses. And now he's like screaming like, oh my God, what the fuck is going on? Again, tripping on drugs. Like he's like, am I, is this real?
Starting point is 00:28:30 Is this fucking real? And he's like driving home now when she, and it looks like a dead body in the passenger seat next to him, he covers her with a blanket because it's a convertible and anyone can see that he's driving with a bloodied woman. But then she reanimates and attacks him, bites his neck. He's covered in blood now, but then she collapses again. He pushes her off and she collapses back into the passenger seat.
Starting point is 00:29:10 He makes it to his house and parks in the garage and closes the door. I'm so stressed even though he's really good at it. I know. I am too. I'm also glad that he didn't go straight to a party, but I'm interested to know. Was he infected blood in that drug? Seems like it. Perhaps.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Ew. Seems like it. He parks the car in the garage. There's a flickering light in the garage that he's noticing a bit, looking up at the light in a way that seems a little odd, because lights are pretty normal in places. He leaves the body in the car, looks at her again, takes the blanket off or whatever and sees like, yep, dead lady in my car. I'm not imagining it. He goes into the house.
Starting point is 00:30:10 He looks at his reflection in the mirror. He's completely covered in blood and he's again like just like, wake up, wake up, wake up, please wake up, please wake up. And he goes in to take a shower to wash off the blood and he's just crying and freaking out. Then his phone rings and it's his dad being like, so I come home tomorrow, everything good with the house? He's like, yeah, everything's totally fine, all good. He's like, okay, well, I'll see you tomorrow. Happy birthday.
Starting point is 00:30:48 We'll like go out to birthday lunch tomorrow. So this is his birthday, Roman's birthday today. It is also really funny to call him and be like, everything good with the house. By the way, happy birthday. Yeah. So he, you know, gets dressed, goes back to the garage, and that body's gone.
Starting point is 00:31:09 No, nope. Is the dirty blanket there, or any like signs of it ever? Signs of it happening? Yes, yes, but there's no like blood trail. He's looking around, he looks under the car, can't find the woman. Sort of a good news, bad news situation for him in this moment.
Starting point is 00:31:28 Right. Yeah. I'm like, all right, there goes that problem. Yeah. So he's trying to figure out what to do when the doorbell rings. He goes to answer it and it is Anais or Ana, someone he has clearly
Starting point is 00:31:45 a romantic relationship with. She kisses him and she immediately asks for drugs. She's like, so what did you score? Like what are we bringing to the party? No, he's taking a shower and changed. Oh, okay, okay. So, but he's acting really weird and she does notice pretty quick.
Starting point is 00:32:01 And she's like, what's wrong? And he's like, nothing, I'm fine, I'm fine. And she's like, well, I'll come with you and get the drugs. He's like, no, I'll get them. You wait outside. And she's like, okay. Is he doing that like in the trailer? It seemed like he was acting kind of like a zombie. Like he was like moving his mouth in a weird way and stuff. There's a little bit of twitching, but nothing crazy yet. Nothing like supernatural seeming just like crazy drug reaction.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Yeah, it just seems like he's tweaked out. Yeah. Okay. And so she goes outside and waits for him. He comes out eventually with the bag of drugs. You motherfucker. And he's like, here you go. You can take it.
Starting point is 00:32:40 I'm not going to the party. And she's like, it's your birthday. Everyone's excited to see you. And she's like, why is it all wet? Did you shower with this? And he's like, brushing her off like, yeah, whatever. I don't know. He's really distracted. And then there's loud honking outside in a bright light and you hear like a car of a group of their friends pull up and they're like, we're here to take you to the party. And it's really loud, constant honking and they have a spotlight on the back of their truck that they're shining
Starting point is 00:33:08 at them. Be like, get in the fucking car. It's chaotic. So stressful. He's like, he's likely I'm not going, I can't go in there like, we're not going to stop honking and shining this light at you until you say you're going to go. And he's like, fine, fine, I'll go and I have to go in and like lock the door. And so I'll be like, just shut up. I know, go to party. Go to fucking party. So he goes back to his house or back to the like entryway
Starting point is 00:33:35 of the house and sets the house alarm and then goes back out to the car. And this is where he starts twitching. So there's this very bright light shining from the car. And it seems to be out to the car. And this is where he starts twitching because there's this very bright light shining from the car and it seems to be tied to the light that as he looks at the light, he kind of starts twitching his neck a bit and staring at the light.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Then he hops in the back of the truck. So they're all kind of sitting on the edge of a truck as it's driving pretty fast. Again, I'll just call it out because it's like the camera is following them in all these cars and going to all these different locations and it's just crazy. Yeah, I assumed that it was gonna be like all in one house
Starting point is 00:34:18 or at least like all in one location. It moves around constantly. It's like barely ever. See, this is what I mean. This is the stressful part, The dolly, the cars, all of this. Whatever road safety's had to do. There's a few parts that, I mean, there must be some CGI in this, but there's a few parts that are choreographed in such a way that I'm like, well, that would be extremely dangerous.
Starting point is 00:34:43 So obviously they're doing some trick here, but I don't, well, that would be extremely dangerous. Obviously, they're doing some trick here, but I don't know what, I would love to see a making of this movie. Yeah, damn. Because it's unbelievable. And what was the budget? Two million? I have no idea. I mean, I couldn't find anything. Oh, it didn't say the budget. Low, I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:34:58 Crazy. So he is in the back of this truck, of twitching looking around. Ana is saying, Roman, what's going on? You're acting so weird. Are you not attracted to me anymore? She thinks he's brushing her off and he's being distant from her. If only. Only Ana. And then as all the streetlights are whipping by, he's like looking at each of them, looking kind of scared and confused.
Starting point is 00:35:32 And then the sound design like dips out as if he's really far away from the back of the truck. So everything's just kind of muted as she's trying to talk to him. You can't really hear her. And then she slaps him and that kind of like brings the sound back and she's like, Roman, Roman, Roman, Roman. And it echoes like a hundred times. So everything she says has an echo and everything she's continues to say has echo. So it's just like all these layers of her voice
Starting point is 00:36:05 talking to him. And he's like so overwhelmed by it. Really great sound design. Don't do these drugs, Ana. They didn't. It's not looking good for him. Don't do them. Yeah. Um, he also did get bitten. Get, get, get bitten. Oh yeah. Does he have like a bite on his neck? He did get bitten. Get bit. Does he have like a bite on his neck? He did get bitten. Get bit, get bitten. That sounds crazy to me to say those words.
Starting point is 00:36:28 By presumably, well wait, but she didn't have teeth. Oh yeah, gummy bite. Oh yeah, because I was going to say I didn't notice a bite. She doesn't have teeth. On him. Right. But she did the motion of biting him. Get her blood on him also.
Starting point is 00:36:42 Yes. Her blood got on him. Yes, and he was like covered in blood in a way that, and he like was touching his face and like trying to wipe it off of his face. And so it was not a, you know, sterile environment certainly. Yeah. Okay. But right.
Starting point is 00:36:59 She had no teeth. Got it, got it, got it. So they pull up at the party. My sister's cat has no teeth and when he bites you it's really funny because it is just like, there's just nothing there. And I can't wait until that happens to Birdie. It was like May before she had teeth. Yeah, it's really funny to get bit by something with, I mean, not funny what happened to him,
Starting point is 00:37:20 that would not be funny, but when it's like a baby or a cat then it's funny. He's like, Oh, right. You don't have teeth because someone tortured you and pulled them all out. It's so funny. That feels really funny. So they pull up at the party. It's a rager house party, like a hundred people there, music blasting, sensory overload. He walks in, everybody's hugging him. Oh, come on, happy birthday. All the attention's on him. He is just wide-eyed, very overwhelmed by everything, twitching. Then there are masks on the wall in a decorative
Starting point is 00:38:09 way like all these different masks. He grabs one of them and puts it on as a way to be like, no one will recognize me and I'll be able to go through the party undetected. He goes straight upstairs to where it's a little bit more quiet and goes into a bedroom. He's looking at himself in the mirror. The mask that he has chosen has three sets of eyes, three mouths, and three ears. It's a very scary mask. He's looking at himself and being like, oh my God, oh my God. And then we see Anna and another girl come into the room on the other side of a wall, so they can't see him, but they're basically coming into this room's bathroom
Starting point is 00:38:56 to do drugs. No! This other girl's name is Julia, they're best friends and Anna pulls out this bag of red powder and is like um yeah she's like I don't know what it is but let's just do it. What's the worst that can happen? So they both do it. Oh god.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Julia starts foaming at the mouth and is like convulsing and Anna's panicking. Oh my god, Julia. Julia's pranking her. It's just as funny joke. Oh my God. And as she had kind of collapsed on the ground, she dropped her purse and Anna sees that she has a pregnancy test.
Starting point is 00:39:57 She's like, why do you have a pregnancy test? And Julia just tells her, oh, I had sex with Roman. Anna is like, what? Oh, no. Now we got the layer of betrayal and deceit going on. I don't like that combo. And Anna gives her a big fake smile and is like, great, cool. And storms out of the bathroom.
Starting point is 00:40:23 So now Julia is in the bathroom alone, looking kind of fucked up. I mean, they're just fucked up, I guess, because she doesn't look like she feels. Yeah, presumably they were fucked up before even those drugs, yeah. Yeah, and so she's not looking that guilty or anything. She's kind of just dazed.
Starting point is 00:40:44 And then Roman walks into this part of the room, the bathroom area, with the mask still on. Julia doesn't know what's happening, is like, who is this? Then he takes the mask off and she sees that it's him. They start kissing. it's him, they start kissing and it gets animalistic. Roman is growling as he kisses her and then starts making his way down her body and just kissing her, but almost biting her all down her side and down her legs. It looks like he's hungry for her, devouring her. He's not actually biting her, but he's just like, ah, ah, ah, ah. And he does have teeth.
Starting point is 00:41:28 He does have teeth. And then when they're kissing again, she sees his eyes have this kind of iridescent glow to them where they're reflecting light a bit and have a creepy glow to them. She points it out, your eyes, what's happening with your eyes? And he looks in the mirror and he's like, oh my God, oh my God, my eyes, what's happening to my eyes? And just then his phone rings and it's his dad and his dad says, what's happening? The house alarm is going off. Like, why aren't you turning that house alarm off? And he's like, oh yeah, I'm almost home. I'm almost there. I'm about to turn it off. He's like, you're not there. Like someone's in the house. I can see on the camera that someone is in the house. And he's like, don't worry, dad. I'm
Starting point is 00:42:20 almost, I'm about to be right there, don't worry." He hangs up, runs downstairs, is running through the party, which is there's a main room where there's strobe lights packed with people, rave music blasting, and he gets caught up for a second. Again, looking at the lights, kind of immobilizing him. He's looking around momentarily, frozen in this place, just in the middle of this dance floor. And then he kind of comes to and makes his way out of the party. All we can hear is the music blasting, but a guy is coming up to him trying to get him to stay, I think.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Like, you can see that he's leaving and this guy's pulling him back. Like, no, no, in a friendly way. Like, don't leave, don't leave. And Roman snaps, punches him, starts like beating the shit out of him, grabbing his head and slamming it against the ground. Oh my god. Oh my god. Julia runs up and triesming it against the ground. Oh my god.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Julia runs up and tries to pull him off him. He like flips Julia over his shoulder and then runs out of the party leaving everyone like crying and like what the fuck just happened. Oh no. He finds a bike and starts biking back to his house. He calls the security company on the way and he's trying to remotely turn off the alarm. He's saying, this is the code, turn off the alarm. We can't turn off the alarm, you have to punch in the code.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Are you there? Well, wait. He's like, I'm almost there. Yeah, I'm pretty much there. Oh my God. While he's riding his bike, he finally gets back home and he is able to turn off the alarm. And right as he does, his dad calls back again and is like, I got the notice that the alarm is turned off. Is everything okay? What did they steal?
Starting point is 00:44:25 He's like, no, everything's okay. Nothing's stolen. Everything's fine, dad. It's all fine. And then his dad goes, Roman. He's like, yeah. He's like, Roman. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:44:39 And then dad's voice just laughs and laughs and laughs. No. And Roman hangs up the phone. God's voice just laughs and laughs and laughs. No. No. And Roman hangs up the phone. He hears a noise inside the house. The kitchen sink is running. All the drawers in the kitchen have been opened. Oh, this is really stressful.
Starting point is 00:44:57 I know. I know. I'm sweating. He sees the tape recorder on the floor, presses play on that again, getting some more information from this. It says subject C36 temperature is extremely low as well as her pulse. She seems to gain strength when exposed to bright light. As he's listening to this, his twitching is kind of intensifying, mostly in his neck,
Starting point is 00:45:28 and it's making this like bad cracking noise. It's like, a little crunchy twitch. And then he follows a blood trail into the bathroom and finds the woman from the car ride in the bathtub with a knife from the kitchen, stabbing herself over and over and over. And she's not, she's not dying. It seems to be what we're getting by how many times. So perhaps she's tried this all before and is, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:01 Won't die, won't die. So she is seemingly unable to die. She is again giving him these pleading eyes. When she sees him, she's crawling towards him on her hands and knees and like trying to communicate something to him and he's like, I don't know what the fuck is going on. And she's mopping up her blood and trying to write something
Starting point is 00:46:22 with her blood. But just then we see a guy in full hazmat suit gas mask with a rifle entering the house. Oh my God. And we see there's like 10 of these guys, they have spotlights, all have guns and Roman runs away from her and hides and she's begging him, like, help me, help me, essentially. But he runs and hides as all these soldier looking guys, has met soldier men, enter the house, obviously looking for her. They don't find her right away.
Starting point is 00:47:13 And so they set off this very bright light that has a really deep sound with it, kind of an inception, bwah. So it's just like the brightest light you've ever seen going like, bwahOOOOOOW! Whoa. Pulsing. And it turns off. And we're just, the camera is now like stationary in the hallway outside of the bathroom.
Starting point is 00:47:32 So she's in the bathroom. We're just seeing the empty hallway as this bright light shines over and over. And on like the fourth time it goes BWOOOOOOW! We see her on her hands and knees, like running out of the bathroom. Well, yeah, doesn't the light give her strength? Why would we want it? It attracts them and I think gives them strength.
Starting point is 00:47:53 So it's like pros and cons to it. So they think you got to do it. It's going to draw her out of where she is a better plan. And like, we'll go with that. So it does draw them towards it like a moth to a flame. That's right. So when the light stops, because it's pulsing, so it's like, she's moving towards it, light turns off, she stops, she's crawling again, she's crawling again, light turns off, she
Starting point is 00:48:24 stops and eventually she crawls into their line of sight and they're able to grab her. They turn the lights off and pull her out of sight. We can't see her anymore. We're hearing gunshots. As one of them's in the hallway, they spot Roman. And so Roman is now being shot at as well. He's running out of the house.
Starting point is 00:48:51 He runs through the backyard into cornfields. And now he's running through the cornfields as he's being shot at. We're still seeing like bright lights pulsing. He keep he turns around to look at them, but he's being shot at, we're still seeing like bright lights pulsing. He turns around to look at them, but he's kind of far enough away that maybe they don't have as much of a pull on him. And so he's still running away from the house and away from the men. And as he's running, he seems scared, but then he starts laughing and laughing and he's running and he's kind of
Starting point is 00:49:25 falling and laughing and screaming. And these are where the performances seem, if it wasn't a wonder, like would be so fun to do this. Cause you're just like, I mean, I think it's probably fun either way, but there'd be a huge added element of stress for me if I was an actor in this position of like, don't fuck it up, don't fuck it up. But so he runs through this cornfield and he eventually makes it out to the other side onto the residential street. There's street lights all around. He's looking up at them, kind of spinning around looking at the lights. We don't hear the men in pursuit anymore. It seems like he's lost them, but he's just kind of spinning, looking up at the lights, twitching. His eyes have this little glow
Starting point is 00:50:11 to them. And it's like the middle of the night, right? It's like 2 AM or something probably, or even earlier? Well, it started at sunset. In daylight. Yeah. So it's probably not that late because we're in real time. Okay, okay. Yes, you're right.
Starting point is 00:50:28 So. Right, right. He looks down and sees all the blood all over himself. Seems like he's been shot. Yeah, okay. And so he's bleeding and I think he's attracted to the blood now and he is like wiping it up and then starts biting himself and biting himself on the arm and he looks
Starting point is 00:50:57 to be really enjoying it. He kind of curls up on the ground and he's just gnawing on his arm. Oh, sick. Eww! curls up on the ground and he's just gnawing on his arm. Oh, sick. Ew! When a black van pulls up and more of the gas mask men jump out, grab him, pull him inside the van, and we hear a series of automatic gunshots, like, do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.
Starting point is 00:51:22 So, don't see what happens, the van whips off. We're following the van now as it turns, going so fast through these streets. And as it goes through an intersection, it almost hits this woman. This was one of the shots where I was like, oh, the way that this has to be coordinated. It's like she's so close to it. She has to jump back to avoid being hit by the van. Van pulls away out of sight. We stay with the girl. We see it is Ana. Oh, who just almost got hit by the van.
Starting point is 00:51:53 Yeah. Okay. Which is a great little handoff in this. Did we see Ana do drugs? I guess she had the drugs. Yes, Ana and Julia. Both of them did. Both of them snorted it.
Starting point is 00:52:03 Okay, okay. So we're with Anna now as she's leaving the party. She's trying to call Roman, being like, you busted this guy's jaw, you could go to jail for this, Roman, what are you thinking, are you fucking crazy? She's obviously very upset. And she gets into an Uber that she has called or a car that she's called and
Starting point is 00:52:30 in the car there is a pretty bright light. So she's in the back of the car. We don't really see the driver, but he's like, like, sorry, I've got confused about the address. She's like, oh, it's okay. Like, I'm fine. She's composing herself, but we see a Twitch. We see a little Twitch as she looks up at the light. And then Julia calls. She's obviously very angry at Julia for sleeping with Roman. And Julia, we hear on the other end of the line,
Starting point is 00:53:01 just saying, what was in those drugs? I'm hearing voices. I'm seeing bad people. Like, just saying what was in those drugs. I'm hearing voices. I'm seeing bad people, like what the fuck was in that. I'm having a bad trip and Ana loses her shit fairly, but like more than I feel like is normal. She's like, me too, okay, you fucking whore. Like I'm having a fucking bad trip, do it, fuck you, you fuck you. Oh god. And then hangs up the phone and the driver's like, are you okay?
Starting point is 00:53:31 And she again, poses herself, she's just, yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Totally fine, totally fine. Totally fine, twitch, twitch, looking around, twitchy as fuck. She turns around, looks out the back of the car, says someone's following us. And the driver says, yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:53:47 And they've been on my ass for a while. He stops the car and gets out. She's like, I don't know if you should stop the car and get out. Yeah, I would not. He stops the car, he gets out and goes to yell at the car that's on their ass. It is of course the van full of men with guns who immediately shoot him and kill him. Whoa, okay. She's freaking out.
Starting point is 00:54:10 She climbs into the driver's seat of the car, pulls away, speeds off. She's looking back over her shoulder. She's slapping herself now being like, this is what the fuck is going on, what the fuck is this? And then the car little voice system says, loss of tire pressure. The tires have presumably been shot and the car comes to a stop. She's gotten a bit away from them. They aren't immediately on her ass, but they're following her, certainly coming. But as she stumbles out of the car, there's bright streetlights, she starts convulsing
Starting point is 00:54:50 on the ground. Then she sees the guys in gas masks are there with guns drawn. It brings her back too. She gets up, she starts running in the opposite direction. They're running after her on foot and shooting her and hitting her. We're seeing her running as she's just being shot over and over and over. We're seeing blood coming out of her back, the squibs exploding. And so she's just being shot repeatedly and easily outrunning them by like a lot. So she seems to be a lot faster than them and unable to be killed by gunshots. So. And so someone created a zombie chemical and then put it into illicit drugs for people to take? I didn't even think about the drugs aspect of it, but yes, I think that that is right. I thought it was all from the like contamination of this woman, but I think that's a good observation.
Starting point is 00:56:01 Yeah, that it might be in the drugs as well. But pretty bad idea. Pretty bad idea. So as she's running from the gas mask men, she runs across a train track as the train is coming. And so it like puts a moving train between them. So it gives her space to get away. But that was another shot that it's like, she runs right in front of this train.
Starting point is 00:56:27 That has to be CGI. Yeah, that has to be CGI. Oh my God, I would hope to God it's CGI. But there's just moments like that, that I'm like, oh, so stressful. She's calling the police now. She's calling, they're not answering for some reason. She's like, please, please, please, please.
Starting point is 00:56:49 Twitching, going through like tree areas, like kind of a foresty path to get to another side of town. Eventually comes out into a main street looking area, goes into a bar. She's covered in blood because she's been shot a whole bunch of times. She walks into this karaoke bar that's pretty empty. There's like five people in there, but they immediately all turn and see this woman panicked, covered in blood. She goes straight to the
Starting point is 00:57:26 woman behind the bar, says, call the police, lock the doors. They're coming. The men are coming. The woman looks to be in complete shock. Obviously locks the doors, but does not call the police, which seems like a mistake in my book, but she is just frozen in fear. And actually, Ana grabs the keys from her and is like, give me the keys. I'm logging the door. The men are coming. They're right behind me. And so she locks the doors, locks them in the bar. And she's like, where's the bathroom? And she goes into the bathroom, sees herself in the mirror for the first time and starts crying. She rips her shirt off, sees she's filled with bullet holes.
Starting point is 00:58:10 Yeah. And she's screaming and cry. She starts, this part reminded me of Florence Pugh. Like I feel like this was like a full, she also has kind of a low raspy voice and she's just like, ah, ah, ah. She's screaming so much. And she's touching her bullet wounds
Starting point is 00:58:31 and going like, my poor body, my poor body, my poor body, and then she drops to the ground and she grabs her phone and she's like, Julia Roman, Julia Roman, and she's like trying to decide who to call and she's like, I'm not crazy. Yes, I am crazy, I to call. And she's like, I'm not crazy. Yes, I am crazy. I'm crazy. I'm not crazy. I'm not crazy. And then she's like, I'm dead. I'm dead. I'm dead. I'm dead. And she starts going, mama, mama. No. No. Then Julia calls and we hear Julia
Starting point is 00:59:02 on the other end of the line saying, these men are everywhere. Where are you? I have my scooter. Meet me by the bridge. She's like, okay, I'll meet you. I'll meet you, Julia. I'll meet you. And she's about to turn to go back into the bar when we hear gunshots going off in the
Starting point is 00:59:17 bar. The men have obviously broken their way in there, the soldiers. And so she's staying in the bathroom, hiding in there, the soldiers. And so she's staying in the bathroom, hiding in there, and we see her eyes start to glow, that same glow that Roman's eyes had. And she finds a window in the bathroom, opens it, jumps out the window. It's now onto the street again, street lights everywhere. She's looking up at them. She's now just in a bra and like a short skirt. She's ripped her clothes off and she's looking up at the lights,
Starting point is 00:59:51 twitching, laughing, screaming, and going like back and forth between faces so fast. I'm like. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh.
Starting point is 01:00:04 Oh. She starts like skipping down an alleyway. There's a woman coming from the other direction that obviously sees a terrifying sight of like a girl with a million bullet holes in her skipping covered in blood. This woman looks incredibly scared. She attacks the woman, like bangs her head against the wall, bites her, throws her to the ground, leaves her as the woman is like screaming. Okay. She keeps going. She's, she's walking down by a, by a, uh, like a river. And a guy is there with a bike and she says, can I take your bike? He says, no, what? And she attacks him, flips him over the railing into the river and he's screaming after her like, you crazy bitch, like what the fuck? And she gets on the bike and she's riding away and laughing and going back and
Starting point is 01:01:01 forth between like, I'm so sorry, it's not me. It's not me. Forgive me. And then laughing and going back and forth between like, I'm so sorry, it's not me. It's not me. Forgive me. And then laughing and laughing and laughing and right in the bike. Oh, Jesus Christ. God damn it. This is not okay. I'm not okay. We're hearing helicopters, seeing helicopters overhead and spotlights and she's like laughing and screaming and eventually makes it to Julia. Julia sees her is like, oh my God, what the fuck happened to you?
Starting point is 01:01:30 And Ana collapses into her arms. She says, okay, I'll take you to hospital. I'll take you to hospital. Get on the scooter. So she has like a little moped type thing, but Ana's limp. And so she's like trying to get, she's like, hold on, hold on behind me, hold on. And she gets on the scooter. So they're zipping off on the scooter now. And she's like trying to grab Ana like, hold on tighter. I need you to hold on. I need you to
Starting point is 01:01:54 hold on. And then Ana kind of comes to again and is holding onto her. And then it's just like, starts like licking, licking the back of her neck. And then she's like taking her own blood and rubbing it on Julia's face with her arms like wrapped around her. And she's like strangling her and Julia's like screaming like, Oh no, what are you doing? And then she's just, uh, uh, Julia sees that they've blocked all of the roads. She's like, I don't know where the fuck to go. They blocked all the roads. They closed all the roads off like we're stuck. And Ana does not care about that. It's just like laughing, panting like a dog and rubbing
Starting point is 01:02:33 her blood everywhere. There's like a closeup of her slapping Julia's thighs with her bloody hands just leaving all these like bloodied handprints that for some reason really unsettled me. And then eventually she bites Julia's neck and Julia flings her off the scooter and stops. We're hearing emergency sirens like the city sirens, not like fire trucks, like evacuation sirens. Julia looks at Anna on the ground and is like, what the fuck is wrong with you? Anna is clearly, well, obviously like a lost cause at this point, but she's kind of trying to see if she's going to snap out of it somehow. Anna does not seem to be snapping out of it. And she gets a phone call from her mom. And her mom is begging her for help as well. She says something is happening in the city. Your sister left me here. I'm stuck. My wheelchair is stuck. And
Starting point is 01:03:40 god damn this is Julia. This is Julia's mom, Julia's mom, and Julia's like, I'm close to the house, like I'm coming right now. And as she's about to leave, Anna does seem to go back to her regular self and Anna's crying and going, Julia, what's happening? Julia, help me, I'm so scared, what the fuck is going on? And she's torn between going to help her mom and helping Anna. And she starts leaving Anna and Anna's like, Julia, Julia, please, please. And she goes, Julia, I'm going to eat your fucking face. And Julia doesn't seem to be having signs of being a zombie.
Starting point is 01:04:24 Not yet. Not yet. But she got bit by Anna. We think maybe that's what puts it. I'm confused whether it's the drugs or Anna. But why did she also? Yeah, who bit Anna? Well, she kissed Roman, but I guess that's- But so did Julia. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So you're right. It must be the drugs. Yeah. And maybe, you know, drugs. Oh, you know, drugs, things affect people differently. Oh wait, Ana, Ana, Ana. Yeah, because Ana only did the drugs, presumably. Yeah, I don't remember Ana getting like a full blood
Starting point is 01:04:56 exchange. Maybe it's like, you know, hmm. Was she present when Roman was beating the shit out of that guy? Yes. Did some of that guy? Yes. Did some of that blood get on her? Possibly. And not Julia? Julia was there too though.
Starting point is 01:05:10 Well, but I mean, not that they couldn't get a dose. She could get double dose. Cause she could get double dose. And I'd be like, drugs and viruses, whatever this thing is, they affect different bodies with different speeds and stuff too, right? Like that's just, I'm thinking about this one time at work, like years ago, pre-COVID,
Starting point is 01:05:35 there was a lunch that everybody had on Friday that gave everybody food poisoning. But then the next week, we were all discussing when we got sick and it hit everybody at different times, but it was all definitely the same food poisoning. And that's about as much science as I have an understanding of here. Where it's like some people got sick on Sunday,
Starting point is 01:05:54 some people got sick on Saturday, some people weren't feeling as sick as others. Right, right. Yeah, so the same applies here. Maybe Ana did the drugs twice, you know? And Julie only did it, took one hit. You just never know. You never know So now Julia is zooming off on her Scooter Ana is chasing behind
Starting point is 01:06:19 Remember she has kind of a seemingly superhuman speed. So even though she is on foot, she is keeping up pretty good with Julia. Julia makes it to her mom's apartment building. She's got like enough of a head start on Anna that she's not like right behind her, but she's coming. And so she gets, she runs in as fast as she can, gets to the lobby, calls the elevator. I would take the stairs,
Starting point is 01:06:51 but she's waiting for the elevator. It comes, she's pressing that button. Even in regular circumstances, those elevator doors feel like they take for fucking ever to close. And the door close button, it doesn't do shit. No. They just put that there to make you feel
Starting point is 01:07:09 some sense of control. It's like a safety hazard, right? Like I think, I feel like I read somewhere or heard something that's like, you cannot make the doors close faster. That's like, yeah. That would be a safety risk. They are not closing fast here. And sure enough, Anna appears like just as they're starting to
Starting point is 01:07:32 close and almost make and she bursts through like the glass door of the lobby. Yeah. And Rats! And the door does close just in time, but Julia is freaking out trying to get, her mom is obviously a couple floors up when the elevator stops, red emergency lighting turns on, the little voice says, operator, we'll be with you soon, stay calm. No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:08:09 Yeah, the last place I'd wanna be is like in a contained, Yeah. Like I need freedom of movement. Freedom, freedom of movement. Yeah. Yeah. We hear her neighbors outside of the elevator asking like, what's going on? The lights went off and she's banging of the elevator asking like,
Starting point is 01:08:26 what's going on? The lights went off and she's banging on the elevator doors saying like, I'm in here, I'm stuck in the elevator, help me. And then she hears Ana's voice come up to the neighbors. So they're, I don't know, for example, maybe on the second or third floor now, and Ana's comes up there and is like, have you guys seen my friend Julia?
Starting point is 01:08:44 I'm looking for my friend Julia? I'm looking for my friend Julia. And you see Julia's eyes go wide and the neighbor's voices are talking to Ana for a second when we hear Ana attack them and you just hear her screaming as you're hearing Ana bite them, devour them, kill them. Julia's banging her head against the wall going, this is a nightmare. This is a nightmare. It's a fucking nightmare. Then we hear a bunch of gunshots. The soldiers have arrived and they hear that she's in there. They call through the door. They're trying to open the elevator door.
Starting point is 01:09:26 Now she doesn't want them to open it because she knows that they're gonna kill her. And they are trying to trick her a little bit by saying, like, if you've been in contact with an infected person, you're in danger, we can help you. You need to come out immediately. She does not fall for it. Then the elevator turns back on and keeps going up.
Starting point is 01:09:42 So she gets out on the top floor. The power in the building is out. She turns on her iPhone flashlight and is looking around the building, trying to find her mom. We see a bloodied woman crawling towards her. She runs away, runs up the stairs. There's corpses, dead bodies, all like splayed on the staircases. And she finally makes it to her mom's house, turns the corner, she's calling, mom, mom, mom, turns the corner, sees Ana eating her mom's face. Oh no. Her mom is dead.
Starting point is 01:10:21 Oh, you hate to see it. On a lunges for Julia, she runs up the escape staircase, up to the, trying to, I guess, get up to the roof, makes it to this vacant floor of the building that has these floor-to-ceiling windows, so it almost feels like an office building level. We can see helicopters all around outside. This is clearly happening all across the town. She's trying to find a way out when one of the soldiers corners her, tells tells her not, don't move.
Starting point is 01:11:05 And she puts her hands up. The soldier is slowly approaching her, says, show me your eyes. Looks closely at her eyes. They seem fine. They're not, don't have the reflection. Oh yeah, cause she hasn't been twitchy either. Mm-mm.
Starting point is 01:11:24 The guy takes her phone, says, turn that off, it attracts them. And be quiet, stay here. Like we know Ana is coming and so he's like hears and he's like, be quiet, don't move, stay here. Goes out into the room, gun drawn. Ana lunges from behind a like, I don't know, just like a hallway, grabs his leg, bites his leg. And he turns and shoots her so many times just like, her head basically explodes. She's dead. Anna, dead. Okay. Julia comes out and sees this and the guy turns the gun on her and he's like, stay back, stay away from me, stay away from me. We see he pulls the cloth back on his pants
Starting point is 01:12:18 and we see, yes, it's broken skin, he's bloodied and bitten, takes off the mask. It's actually a hot woman. Oh my god. She tells Julia, you have to leave. We have orders to kill anyone who's made contact. This life no longer exists for you. You need to leave.
Starting point is 01:12:42 She says, in a couple of minutes, I'm not going to be able to control myself. She hands Julia her gun, basically saying, just like, get out, get out of here. And then Julia twitches. Oh, no. And the woman looks at her says, are you hearing voices? Are you drawn to the light? If you haven't ingested any of their blood, you're OK. We know that she has, because Anna
Starting point is 01:13:10 was basically shoving her hands into her mouth when they were on the scooter together, her bloody hands. But this soldier woman is obviously infected as well. And so she's like, I don't know, good luck to you. And she tells her to turn around. She takes a handgun, shoots herself in the head. Julia is screaming, holding the gun, twitching a little bit, sits down and starts laughing
Starting point is 01:13:42 and crying and screaming. And we're seeing in the background and through these huge windows on this floor, explosions happening, various parts in the city and debris falling from the sky. And she's laughing and crying and slapping herself and saying, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up. That's the end of the movie.
Starting point is 01:14:08 Oh my God. You're right. I certainly don't feel better. And also, I mean, Sammy, I can understand this is a story of like civilization collapsing, clearly being on the brink of collapse. Like, you don't want to be reminded about that right now. Wow. So I'm confused though. Like, was it the drugs or was it just a zombie outbreak?
Starting point is 01:14:33 Maybe both. Maybe both. I don't know. Better to not do drugs just in case. Just in case. Just in case don't do drugs. I do think the drugs must have, it must have been. Like accelerated something?
Starting point is 01:14:47 Yeah, blood in the drugs or something. Right, why would they be red? Why would they make a point to make it red? It might not have been intentional even, it might have been like the drug dealer bled onto the drugs and. Uh-huh. Like it was already happening, it was already out there. Right, and so maybe it wasn't part of the plan and it was an accidental contamination.
Starting point is 01:15:08 But yeah, I think that's probably part of it. And so the woman in the beginning, she was a test subject. Do we think that she had become a zombie and they'd found her to... It sounds like they administered something to her. I feel like she was intentionally tested on. It really unsettled me that she had bandages on all her fingertips. They took off her fingerprints, which was really upsetting. That's really fucked up. That's really fucked up.
Starting point is 01:15:40 Took her fingerprints and her frigging teeth. Yeah, because they wanted to make sure they couldn't get... took her fingerprints and her friggin teeth. Mmm. Yeah, because they wanted to make sure they couldn't get, they might've taken her fingernails so she couldn't scratch. Yeah. Sure might've less taken her whole fingertip. Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew. Hate it.
Starting point is 01:15:57 Yeah, extremely stressful movie. I mean, I loved it, but, but it was a lot to watch right before bed. And then when I rewatched it, I rewatched it the next night, but then I did have the great pottery throw down as a good way to decompress. It really did. That's nice. Really important show. Really important show. Really good palate cleanser. It really did. That's nice. Really important show.
Starting point is 01:16:25 Really important show. Really good palate cleanser. Mm-hmm. Oh my God. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. I don't know. I don't wanna be reminded of the possibility of a pandemic. A zombie situation would really suck.
Starting point is 01:16:43 That would really suck. It would really suck. But yeah really suck. It would really suck. But yeah, this movie felt like climax mixed with 28 Days Later mixed with rec. That's a lot of things I don't wanna mix. Yeah, but really unbelievable filmmaking, unbelievable performances. If you can handle it, I highly recommend it.
Starting point is 01:17:06 But yeah, just have like some chamomile tea with you. Be gentle to yourself. Yeah. Be gentle. I really like, my chest hurt after the first time watching it, I was like, I think watching this two nights in a row probably took time off of my life. Yeah, like I feel like it's not,
Starting point is 01:17:28 it can't be good for you to feel this way. But fuck, fuck. Well, it was, I don't know. I don't know what makes me this way, but I love it. Thank God we need it. We need, but yeah. I don't, I love it. Thank God we need it. We need. But yeah, I don't. Oh, Lordy. Now you guys get to have the rest of your day. I have the rest of my day, too, but you guys really have the rest of your day.
Starting point is 01:17:53 Yeah, this was I have a tax meeting after this, so that'll be that'll bring me right back down to Earth. Oh, baby. Thank you, Sammy. Thank you for taking that on for us. You know what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna look up some trivia about Mads Mikkelson is what I'm gonna do to come down from this. God, he's so hot.
Starting point is 01:18:14 Oh, I love him so much. I love him. God, I love him. Great idea. I love you guys. Love you listeners. Love you, Tony Heads. Love you, Tony Heads.
Starting point is 01:18:24 Made it through the first month of the year. Woohoo. How about that? That is quite an achievement in my book. Yeah. I've been hella moisturized in January. This is my most moisturized January of all time. You better believe I've been a proud adopter
Starting point is 01:18:41 of the Vanny cream and Casper oil combo. I'm doing it, hun. How's it going? Loving it. You feel okay about it? Loving it. I feel great about it. I feel great about it.
Starting point is 01:18:50 I'm loving it. I've got Vanna cream. I got some Vanna cream. I went to the dermatologist because my skin has been very itchy and she said, try Vanna cream. And I don't have the castor oil yet, but I did order it.
Starting point is 01:18:59 So. Oh my God, you guys. I've got it. I'm using it. I'm using rose hip oil. When I mix it together, I was using it. I'm using the gospel of Castro oil. I'm using Rose hip oil. When I mix it together, I was trying, it was really giving me, I was reminded of a scent,
Starting point is 01:19:10 cause it's unscented, but I was like, this is reminding me of something, like what is it? And it's matzo crackers. Oh. Just the plain old matzo. Okay. That's what it like smells like to me. Like a nothing nothing but something.
Starting point is 01:19:25 Okay. It's nice. I like a almost savory facial. A natural organic. When I got a facial once, they used, I've had something that was like oat and tomato, and it felt like the smell of it. I was like, oh my God, yum. That's nice.
Starting point is 01:19:43 I used to take oatmeal baos a lot as a kid because my skin was like very inflamed and there was something like really soothing about just a bready substance on one's body. Yeah. But yeah, so, you know, not all bad this month, pretty moisturized. Yeah, we gotta count our wins.
Starting point is 01:20:04 Also decided I'm gonna get into weightlifting. Nice. I wanna get into weightlifting too. We're talking my five pound dumbbells. It's very little weight, but I was like, I think all I need is to be really moisturized and strong. To get really strong. I sometimes lift weights while I'm watching TV.
Starting point is 01:20:19 Makes me- Really smart. Yeah, I'll just stand in front of the TV and kind of do some reps. Yeah. Apparently one of the big, big secrets to like body longevity is like, you gotta, you gotta build muscle mass. You gotta, you gotta be, we start losing muscle mass. Women start losing muscle mass, I think at 30 or something, or maybe even like 20. Well, like that's when we start losing muscle mass. So yeah. So let's get fucking jacked. Let's get jacked.
Starting point is 01:20:47 Like that dog meme. Let's hydrate that skin. Let's pump those muscles. Pump that iron baby. What could go wrong, baby? Oh, we're gonna be such scary zombies when we're so ripped. But we'll be soft.
Starting point is 01:21:02 We're gonna wanna bite into this supple, this supple, supple skin and get at these hard muscles. Soft skin, hard muscles. 2025, soft skin, hard muscles. That's what it's all about, baby. Yeah, baby. All right, well. I love you guys.
Starting point is 01:21:19 Love you. Love you. And we'll be back, you know. We'll be back. Okay. See ya. And we'll be back, you know. We'll be back. Okay. See ya. Bye. Bye.
