This is a HeadGum Podcast.
This is Emily, Henley, and Sammy, and you're listening to Too Scary, Didn't Watch.
Hi everyone, welcome to Too Scary, Didn't Watch, the horror movie recap podcast for
those too scared to watch for themselves.
I'm Emily and I am too scared to watch scary movies.
And I'm Sammie and I love watching scary movies and so I watch them so that you don't
have to.
We have no Henley with us today.
A sad, sad day.
A sad day.
We hate to report it. We hate to report it, but in her absence,
we thought why not cover a movie
that entirely features children.
Really, really getting milking the most we can
out of this moment.
Well, the cat's away, the mice will play.
The rats will play.
The rats will play. The rats will play. The rats will play.
And we are rats.
If you want to jump straight to our recap,
there are timestamps in the show notes
because first we've got some exciting haunted housekeeping.
We really do.
Really exciting.
Some of the most exciting.
Which is a report on our fundraiser for World Central Kitchen from last week's episode.
We initially set a goal of raising $2,000.
$2,000 because we thought we wouldn't make it to three.
Before we even started our live stream, you guys hit that goal, blew it out of the water.
So then we raised it to $5,000 during the live stream.
You guys hit that.
In the week since that live stream,
you guys raised over $11,000.
Absolutely, it's insane.
Really unbelievable.
Just can't, I really can't believe it.
You guys are the freaking best.
Thank you so much for supporting World Central Kitchen.
Yeah, it just is really, really special.
And I'm so, I just, I love all our listeners so much.
I love our listeners so much.
I'm so, yeah, so grateful, so bowled over.
So just like, wow, look at all of you.
Look at what all you did.
Look what you did.
Like what you came together to do.
Really, really great.
Oh, thank you so much.
We love you.
We really love you.
And so just as a quick reminder,
what you paid for aside for making the world a better place
is that Henley and I will be,
I mean all of us will be doing a watch along,
we will include me and Henley of 2013, Evil Dead.
Gonna have to watch it, gonna put a watch along episode
out there for you.
In one week's time, we will be recording from the graveyard
that Henley lives at.
We are going to be doing a live stream for the graveyard
in some capacity to figure that out.
Then we will record that week's episode,
hopefully from within the empty church.
And we're gonna do something spooky and ghosty and churchy and haunted and I am scared.
We have some logistics to figure out,
but rest assured it will be spooky.
It will really be spooky.
And I'm the one who was like,
we need to keep the lights off,
but I'm scared that I said that.
Yeah, that was a bold.
I'm brave now, but we'll see what happens.
So yeah, more details to be announced.
Probably check our Instagram for the latest on that.
Yep.
Yep.
And we had said that we are going to announce another award for if you guys hit 10K.
Again, you guys raised over 11,000. And so another reward that has all of the details
yet to be figured out
is that we are finally going to do a live in-person show.
Again, location to be determined, date to be determined,
but probably sometime this summer.
And hopefully-
Probably Los Angeles.
Yeah, probably Los Angeles, maybe other locations.
Again, we have not figured anything out concretely yet, but we will-
We will-
Be doing it, we promise.
We promise.
And we will obviously keep you posted every step of the way
so that hopefully we can see a lot of you there.
Oh my God.
Wow.
It'll be so fun.
God, it'll be so fun.
Hell Jella 2025.
Hell Jella 2025.
We've really been wanting to do that for a while.
And you all proved to us that we need to freaking show up
for you the way you showed up for us.
And we're gonna do it.
We sure are.
And the fundraiser ended today,
but we were so inspired by your guys' generosity
that we added another 4K to the fund,
bringing it to $15,000 so So that our total amount that we raised
for World Central Kitchen as of this recording
is 15,105 and 69 cents.
Oh!
Quite a lot of you donated in multiples of 69
and I really appreciate that.
Thank you for that.
Or 666, some of you.
4666, yes.
Thank you for that as well.
Yeah, really remarkable.
Really, truly truly truly remarkable.
We love you all and we love World Central Kitchen
and they do such important stuff and they're gonna,
$15,000 is gonna really freaking help them
keep doing that stuff.
Yeah.
We need them now more than ever.
Really thrilling.
I can't wait, yeah, Henley's not here right now,
but we're gonna be all together this upcoming weekend.
I can not freaking wait.
Oh my God.
Really exciting.
And yeah, in Henley's absence,
I am ready and willing to hear about horrible things
happening to children.
Excellent.
Well, I can guarantee that you will be hearing about that,
but before we get into the movie,
did anything scary happen to you this week, Emily?
Yeah, yes.
I woke up in the middle of the night a few nights ago,
12.30 in the morning morning with a freaking migraine.
And like, wow, I know a lot of people get frequent migraines.
I am so sorry.
I don't know how you do it.
I get frequent headaches.
I get a lot of really bad tension headaches.
And I've had, I think two previous actual migraines
in my life, but I can now say fairly certainly that those were mild.
Because it was so wild to wake up and be like, oh, oh, this is a migraine.
Like this is not a headache. This is something else.
It woke. Also the audacity. I could have slept there. I was sleeping. I was already sleeping.
I could have kept sleeping. Nobody would have been the wiser. We all would have just had a fine time.
We in my head, I guess,
is the other person I'm talking to.
Woke me up.
I took two Tylenol.
They did fucking nothing.
Yeah, I mean, up for like three hours.
They couldn't lie down, couldn't sit up,
couldn't open my eyes, couldn't fall asleep.
Took a shower, didn't work. My go-to remedy. Sat down in the up, couldn't open my eyes, couldn't fall asleep, took a shower, didn't work,
my go-to remedy, sat down in the shower, didn't,
I mean, look, it was better than not being in the shower,
but it didn't make me feel better.
Sorry, sorry for, TMI, it made me vomit this stupid headache.
And I was like, well, this doesn't solve anything,
it's the problems in my head.
Like, this doesn't solve anything. It's the problems in my head. It's like such a bizarre biological response.
Truly. Like usually I don't like throwing up,
but I can appreciate what it accomplishes.
The function.
Yes. When it's like there's something in my body
that needs to come out, then throwing up makes sense.
Yeah.
When it's the problem is within me and it's not going anywhere.
Why am I throwing up? That's for nothing.
That just makes everything worse.
Yeah. Really.
And then the whole next I mean, I did finally get back to sleep,
but then the whole next day, it wasn't as bad.
But I like any time I moved my head, I like had this
weird pain on like truly just like one whole side of my head.
Really. And then, of course, I was like, well, is it because I've been breathing
in toxic air and drinking toxic water for two weeks? Like I'm like,
then I'm like, oh no, what? And I'm thirsty and I need to be hydrating,
but does my water toxic? I bought some filters. Um, and it's all fine and I'm
fine and people get headaches, but damn, damn, damn, damn crazy stuff.
And like, I don't even really, I looked it up, like, what are these?
Where do they come from? And it's like, I don't know, could be this,
could be stress, could be hormones,
could be poison air, poison water, like, I don't know,
they suck, sorry to say.
Bodies are so crazy.
So crazy, what was that for?
Oh, I'm so sorry.
How would it do that to me?
I have never had a migraine and they just seem,
they just seem so bad and And I'm so sorry.
It's really, thank you.
Thank you so much.
It's just really, it's just really crazy.
What the fuck?
But you know, I'm fine.
I'm fine.
Scary though.
That is scary.
I hope, I hope it does never happen again.
It does never again happen.
I hope it does never again happen.
How about you, Sammy?
Do you think scary happened to you this week?
Much less scary, but, and not to me personally,
but I think something we should all be upset by
is that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
did not get nominated for an Oscar
for best original score for their fine work.
They're truly fine work.
Challengers being completely, completely shut out
from the Oscars is a crime.
And somebody should get arrested.
Someone should get arrested.
I am really not happy about it,
but a bright side of the Oscar nominations
that pertains to what we talk about on this podcast.
Three horror movies were nominated for Oscars,
most notably The Substance got five nominations,
including Best Picture and best director and best actress
and best screenplay and best makeup and hair styling. So that's, that feels like,
that's fucking cool.
unprecedented.
Though it does make me like retroactively angry to go back in time and be like Tony
Kailash should have been nominated and of of course, she should have been nominated.
Like, wait, what are we, why didn't we, I haven't seen her at a Terry's, but I just
believe it. But I have seen Midsummer and I'm like, we didn't, we did nominate her
for that. That's, yeah, she was incredible.
I hope this is.
Do better.
Yeah, I hope this is what happens more going forward.
I hope this is a trend, a continuing trend
of maybe younger people being added to the academy,
younger, cooler people, obviously.
Obviously we need cooler people,
younger, cooler, hotter.
And Nosferatu got nominated for cinematography
and Alien Romulus, thank you. And Nosferatu got nominated for cinematography
and alien...
Romulus.
Romulus, thank you.
Got nominated for something as well that now I can't.
Special effects perhaps?
Visual effects?
Visual effects I think, yeah.
So congratulations to all of them.
I'm really thrilled to hear it.
And yeah, horror fucking rules
and it should be respected and rewarded for existing.
Yes, it should.
And that is cool.
That is exciting.
Huge, huge bit of fun, challenges.
Huge bit of fun, challenges.
That was a fuck up.
That was a fuck up.
They fucked that one up.
You guys aren't as cool and young and hot as you could be.
You could, yeah.
And you know what's cool and young and hot
is fucking Challengers.
Exactly.
So missed opportunity there,
but yeah, recognizing horror is very cool.
And I would like to see more of that.
Yeah.
And I will be listening to the Challenger soundtrack daily
to show my support.
Yep.
In this.
Like how everybody listened to Heidi Montauk's music
after the fires.
Exactly like that.
I didn't know that people did that, but I love that.
Oh, people did that.
I'm a big fan of Spencer and Heidi, Spidey
as they're referred to.
Mostly because of Spencer's Hummingbird as they're referred to, mostly because of Spencer's hummingbird
content. Really incredible stuff. Check it out on his Instagram. It's really special.
But okay, let's get into this week's movie. It is The Innocents. came out in 2021.
It is a Norwegian film written and directed by Eskil Vogt
who wrote The Worst Person in the World.
Right, that's right, you did mention that.
I loved that movie.
This is very different from that, but love his work.
Okay, yeah, love his work.
It is starring, and here we go,
my pronunciation of these Norwegian names
is going to be perfect.
Raquel Lenora Flottam, Alva Brinsmo Ramstad, Sam, Sam.
Ah, sure.
Mina Yasmin Bremsef Ashim,
and Ellen Dorit Peterson, streaming on Shudder.com.
Emily, what do you know about this movie?
Just that it's kid stuff?
Just that it's kid stuff?
Just that it's Norwegian?
That is the extent.
Yeah, I watched this movie, I think in 2021,
I had heard about it, obviously,
and I have a loyal Shudder subscriber.
So when things get recommended on there,
I'll check them out.
And I loved it.
I immediately knew Henley would just simply drop dead
if she ever heard about it.
So I have kindly held off on.
Did you book that cabin for her in 10th ago,
spend a weekend away?
You deserve a day off, Henley.
I immediately, when she told us
she wasn't gonna be here this week was like, what
movie featuring child death? Shall we talk about have to take advantage of this opportunity?
But yeah, I loved this movie. I think it's really, really good. So if you are okay with
child bad stuff happening to kids, check it out. Highly recommend.
It has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. So people agree is really good. Yep. 79 on Metacritic,
which is pretty high for Metacritic. That's high. Yeah. And a seven on IMDB, which is
also high for IMDB. Honestly high. Yeah. There's no six at the front of that.
Yeah, exactly. It's basically a hundred percent.
Yeah.
A 10 out of 10. The budget was three million euro, but no box office numbers.
It was not released, I don't think, in theaters in the US,
and I don't know how to access box office numbers internationally,
or at least they weren't on box office mojo, my usual go-to. So yeah, no info there, but
just a little bit of trivia, not much trivia, is that the main girl in this, our protagonist played by Raquel Lenora Flottam and the woman that
plays her mother in this, which is Ellen Dorit Peterson. They are mother and daughter in
real life. Wow. And you can really tell. So the opposite of, what was that lion movie? I can't remember any of the lion.
With Nicole Kidman and Deb Patel.
No, no, no, no, no.
The movie where, fuck, who's the actor
who didn't hire his daughter to play his daughter?
Oh yes, yes, yes.
Beast, I think was the movie with Idris Elba.
Yeah, his daughter auditioned
and he said the chemistry wasn't right.
Oh, it's so funny.
It's so funny.
Anti-nepotism, so good.
Although the nepotism did get her in the door.
Yeah, she'll be fine, she'll be fine, she'll be fine.
So funny to have your dad be like,
it's not believable.
She just doesn't read as my daughter.
I don't think it's something that's not working.
Oh, it's so funny.
And then there is another movie that Esquil Voigt and Joaquim Trier worked on together.
That's the worst person in the world.
Writer, director, team.
They worked on a horror movie called Thelma, which I have heard of and had been on my list
and then I totally forgot about it.
And so I just threw it back on our list.
So maybe we'll cover Thelma one day.
It looked interesting, but that is all the trivia I have.
So let's watch this trailer.
I love this trailer.
You are gonna get a great feel for the vibe of the movie
and it is not pleasant.
Oh, great.
So let's see.
Let's do it.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Hello? What were you talking about?
I was talking about something that's not here.
Hold it now.
You won't wake up until you're not out for long. Ready?
Hi.
What are these pigs?
I can make people do things.
I'm sorry.
Mama, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, mom. What happened to you, Lid?
I lied to you. It's just entirely children and they're all so good in it.
It's really impressive.
It also looks beautiful.
Cinematography is stunning.
That shot with them, like the bikes in the shadows.
Wow, wow, wow.
Really stunning cinematography and pacing like slow burn filled with dread.
Oh boy.
Oh boy.
Oh boy.
Yeah.
I'm excited to hear about it.
It looks fascinating.
I'm definitely like, I'm very curious.
Yeah, yeah, it's really good.
And I'm really happy Henley's not here to hear about it
because she'd be so upset.
She'd be so upset.
Not me, couldn't be me.
I'll be just fine.
Don't you worry, there are things
that will upset you as well.
There always are.
So shall we?
We shall.
Let's do it.
Ah!

side in. So obviously trigger warning, kid stuff, child abuse and animal abuse. Sorry. Oh yeah. I don't like that. Yeah. So there is one scene in particular that you're also
really not going to like. God damn it. Okay. We begin with a-up of a young girl in the back seat of a car, window down,
kind of wind blowing through her hair, staring out the window. This is our main character,
Ida. She is nine years old.
She's a little cutie.
She's a little cutie. And we hear like a moaning in the background and it stays close up on her face for a while
so we can't really tell what's happening, but then slowly it pans out to reveal her
sister Anna, who looks to be about 12 and she's special needs, nonverbal, and she's
just moaning to herself constantly. And Ida looks over at her
with like a little resentment look in her eyes
and she reaches over and pinches Anna on the leg.
They're in the back seat of their parents' car
and reaches over and pinches her leg really hard.
And Anna doesn't react to it. Just keeps her
regular moaning happening like uninterrupted. It seems like she doesn't have a reaction
to it. We see that they are moving to a new home. That's where we're going as a family.
Mom and dad are unloading the car and they're moving into these high rise buildings. It's the middle
of summer and Ida makes a comment about how she's upset that they're not on summer vacation.
This is supposed to be a time where everyone's on vacation. Again, because this is Europe,
people do that. So the high-rise buildings and there's like
a lot of playgrounds and a little pond in between each of them. It almost looks like
a, reminds me of a little bit of my college campus because it's not like in a city, it's
surrounded by woods, but just these few high-rise buildings and playgrounds, but it's pretty
empty. There's not tons of
people there because again, they're all probably traveling for the holidays. And we find out
that they are not doing that because they're moving to this new place. And Anna needs obviously
like 24 seven care. And so with the mom not being able, Ida like suggests, maybe you and I
can just go on a vacation. And she says, no, your dad wouldn't be able to do his work and take care
of Anna. And so we can't do that. And so again, we're seeing this like little resentment Ida has
towards her sister. She goes outside to play to try to find kids to play with. There are some older kids playing
basketball, but they do not invite her to play with them. They see her looking like,
can I hang out with you guys? I'm available.
I hang out with you guys. And they turn around and continue their game. So she keeps walking and
continue their game. She keeps walking and eventually runs into a boy who seems about her age who does ask her, he says, you want to see something? This is Ben. They walk out
into the woods and he has a little tree house area that he's built back there with some wood planks.
He's made a little hideout type thing.
You remember how fucking cool hideouts were
when you were a kid?
Yeah.
They're honestly, they're still cool.
They're still cool.
Like any sort of like little specialized space is awesome.
Yeah.
I got my sister's kids an indoor tent for Christmas
a couple of years ago and I was like, I want one.
I know that my home is basically the whole thing
could be my little tent, but I want a tent inside my home.
That sounds awesome.
A little fort.
Yeah, fort.
Yeah, they're really great.
And so Ida is immediately so excited to see this, like, well, maybe this summer is not
going to totally suck after all.
Like, I have a friend and I have now this special little cool hideout place.
And he's like, okay, I have something to show you that I've been practicing.
And he has her hold out a rock, a little small rock, hold it in front of him and drop it
in front of him. She does it once and nothing happens. He's like, try it again, try it again.
She holds another rock in front of him. You can see him really focusing and squeezing
his eyes shut. Then she drops it and the rock flings to the side. So basically, shoots off and doesn't hit
the ground. We see that he has some telekinetic abilities. She is once again, thinks this is so
cool. She tries it. She can't do it, but she's so excited. Giddy with excitement, like, I
found a friend, he's got powers, this rules. She goes back home and her family's not paying
much attention to her at home because we're just moving in. We have Anna that needs higher
priority to pay attention to. And. You can see that she seems,
I think she feels a little neglected at home. They're getting ready to take Anna to,
I think, a doctor appointment or something. Some glass smashes, they knock a glass over
while they're getting ready and then go, they take Anna into
another room to get her dressed. And Ida sees a couple of the shards of broken glass on the
ground and sprinkles them into Anna's shoes. Oh, that's so horrible. Kids just, this stage
of childhood is very scary of just when you like don't realize.
Don't understand just how you don't have empathy yet.
Yeah, you don't have empathy and you don't have an understanding of like real consequences.
Yeah.
Oof.
So we cut away and meet another character, a little girl, again, around nine years old.
This is Aisha.
She has vitiligo.
She is so fucking cute.
I would die for you, Aisha.
I fucking love her so much.
And she is having a conversation
with a little blonde doll,
but it seems like she's having like a real conversation.
She's-
Like how scary kids do.
Yes.
Yeah.
Like she is hearing responses.
She's not making it up.
She's talking to something.
Right.
We see she has a very cute cat.
Oh no.
Named Susu.
Susu.
And she walks into the kitchen where her mom is making lunch or something and just crying.
Her mom's just quietly crying to herself. She doesn't see Aisha walk in and see her
crying but we get the sense that there is some family trauma there or something is not great at home. She tells her mom she's going
to go outside and play. Then she puts her shoes on and goes, ouch, and takes her shoes
off and sees her feet covered in blood. Then looks inside the shoe, can't see anything, looks at her
foot again and it's not bleeding and she's fine. Now we see Anna and that family at the
doctor's office or therapist and they are talking to this new doctor giving them a
basically medical history of Anna. They
say she was developing normally until she was four. She spoke normally, fully, and then
she stopped speaking and she hasn't spoken since.
That's terrifying.
Yeah. Then they go home after the doctor appointment and her mom takes Anna's shoes off and finds
that they are bloodied and obviously filled with glass and is horrified to see this and
they rush her off to get the glass out and clean it up and bandage her foot. They have
no idea that Ida did it. They just think it was an accident.
Aisha is walking around the building calling out for Susu. Susu
got out of, seems like he's or she, I don't know, Susu could really go either way. Is
an indoor outdoor cat, but Aisha's just trying to find Susu and walking to other floors of the building. It's probably like 20 stories high or something.
And as she gets to this other floor,
she hears a door handle jiggling and looks over at it.
And this door handle is really violently jiggling,
like someone's trying to get out.
And we see inside it's Anna.
And it seems like Anna is sensing the presence of Aisha.
And Aisha goes to the other side of the door
and touches the handle and then Anna stops jiggling it
and they just each hold opposite sides of the door handle
for a while and go quiet.
Anna's moaning stops,
cause she's normally moaning like constantly all the time.
And this is like one of the first times
that she's had a moment of silence.
And they both just hold onto the handle
and seems like feel each other's energy
when Anna's mom like pulls her over
is like, Anna, come over here.
And it breaks the moment.
And Aisha heads back to her house.
It's like getting dark.
So it's dinner time and bedtime.
Mm, my favorite times.
It's a really good time. She is being tucked in by her mom. And she asks her mom, she says,
Mom, when I pray, can I just listen? And her mom says, What do you mean? And she's like, well, I just wanna listen.
And she says, well, that's not really praying,
but we're getting the impression that Aisha hears things
and can hear people talking and that would be confusing,
just maybe thinking it's God.
That would be so surreal if your kid asked you that. Yeah.
I really feel like I'd be like,
listen to what?
Yeah, tell me more.
I don't know what you mean and I don't like it.
We see the next day,
Anna and Ida on the swings in the playground
in front of their building. Ben walks up to
them, asks Ida if she can play. Ida says, I have to watch. No, she says, I'm here with
my sister. She's autistic and I'm watching her. Then pretty quickly she's like, it's
fine. We can leave her here. She'll
just swing for a while. She's not going to move. And so they leave Anna on the swings
while they go around the complex looking for something else to do. They find the older
kids playing soccer now and Ben runs in and joins the game and they immediately start
bullying him. They kick the soccer ball
at his head and they're being like, get out of here. You're too little to play with us.
It clearly really embarrasses Ben in front of Ida. He looks humiliated and walks away.
Cut back to Anna and we see Aisha walking up to her, finding her on the swings and sitting
next to her. They start swinging together. They seem really drawn to each other. Once
again, Anna stops moaning as Aisha comes up. I think Aisha even rests her hand on Anna's
knee and seems to have a really calming effect on her. Aisha is once again
so cute and sweet and you can just tell she's so loving and just really trying to help calm
Anna down and it's very cute. We go back to Ben and Ida who have gone to their little hideout. Ben takes off
his shirt at one point or maybe he's taking off a sweatshirt and the shirt comes with
it, but we see that he has bruises on his ribs, big bruises. And then they're just sitting there hanging out when Aisha's cat walks up and Ben calls
him Jabba.
So Ben doesn't know who this cat is, but he comes outside enough that he's like, oh, I
call him Jabba.
And this is a scene that's really tough.
They pick Jabba up and they go back inside the building and they run up to the top of
like the top flight of stairs.
And it's basically not like a spiral staircase, but you know when you can look down the middle
of us of a rectangle in the middle and Ben holds Jabba by the scruff of his neck and
like drops him down the middle, which I've talked about
terminal velocity before on this podcast, right?
It is very interesting to me.
And I wonder if that's what Ben had read about too, because there is a really counterintuitive
fact that if a cat falls from two stories, it'll be fine. But if it falls from
like three to seven stories, that's like the most lethal distance a cat can fall from.
But then higher, it's back to like they'll probably survive again. I don't remember exactly
what the number is, but it's just such a weird fact that once they're falling for long enough,
they go completely limp and then their chances
of survival go up again.
There's no discussion of this happening between Ben
and Ida and I find it hard to believe
that he's testing terminal velocity here,
but it is what came to mind for me.
But we know what's happening.
And Ida is seeming like a little nervous of this game. Like she's not fully on board,
but she's not stopping it. She ran up there with him to be like, let's drop the cat from
this height. And then they run down to the bottom to at the bottom of the stairs, limp.
Ben starts crying, and then the cat gets up
and stumbles a little bit and then falls back down.
And Ben says, should we kill it?
Which, what?
You think you already did, Ben?
And he takes his foot and like the heel
of his shoe and puts it on the cat's head and Ida yells out, don't. And he crushes the
cat's skull. You hear freaking skull crunch. And Ida's like, I got to go home. Bye. And
just like runs off. Really, really upsetting as I feel like, I think probably
the most upsetting animal death I've seen in a movie because it looks really real. I
mean, maybe other than the actual real ones I've seen, like in Come and See where they
kill a cow for real and you can really tell that they kill a cow for real. But don't worry, there is a disclaimer in this movie
that no animals were harmed. But it's really upsetting and it reminded me, and this is
really horrible too and real, but when I was in high school, we dissected cats in my AP
bio class or whatever it was. And the teacher made it extra credit
if you could get their brain out.
So I remember seeing all these fucking high school kids
running outside and banging dead cat skulls
on the sidewalk to try-
What?
Because they're really thick skulls.
And so it's like, how are you-
Oh my God.
It was horrifying.
I was like, what the fuck is going on?
Why are you?
There should have been a thing like,
actually kind of you get the brain out,
here's how you do it.
You don't barbarically, you can't just pick it up
and take it wherever you want.
That's, it was so-
That's not good teaching.
It was really bad teaching I think.
I blame the teacher.
It's really unethical to ask teenagers to do that.
Yikes.
And I had completely buried that memory into this.
Dang, sorry it came back.
Brought it back up.
So Ida now is running back home and runs past Aisha and Anna, grabs Anna and Aisha asks
her before they go back inside, can you bring Anna back out tomorrow?
And she says, I'll ask my mom.
And they're inside later having dinner.
Anna is sitting on the ground spinning the tops of pots.
So they make like a metal clangy sound,
almost like a top, that's what they're called.
The toy is called a top. It's what they're called.
The toy is called a top.
It's like, what do you call those top toys?
Or like a dreidel.
Yeah.
And it seems like it spins a little longer
than what should be physically possible.
So we're thinking Anna might have a little something
up her sleeve as well.
But now there's kind of a progression of days.
We're like going through the summer, so time is passing and we are seeing the four kids
meeting up during the day and playing together, testing their powers, discovering their powers
in some sense. Aisha and Anna have some sort of psychic connection where Aisha can understand
her and both of their powers seem to be strengthened when they're near each other. So Ben is really fascinated by this, but also seems like
a little annoyed that other people have powers. There's like a part of him that feels like that's
his thing. Does Ida have powers? Have we discovered yet? No, Ida does not. She's trying everything.
She's trying to move things. She's trying to focus really hard, but nothing's happening for Ida.
trying everything. She's trying to move things. She's trying to focus really hard, but nothing's happening for Ida. But she's pretty cool about it. She's still celebrating everybody else's.
Oh, okay.
And they're testing Aisha's telepathic abilities by standing at the top of the stairs and the
foot of the stairs. Aisha and Ida are at the top, Anna and Ben are at the bottom,
and they're whispering words to each other. Ben will whisper a word in Anna's ear, and then Aisha
will know what the word is. Ida yells it out, and they're like, whoa, yeah, Craig's crazy.
One night we see them all going home for dinner, and Ida whispers shark in Anna's ear. Anna
has one of those magnetic sketch pad things that you draw and then you do the little swipey
thing. Usually she is just drawing scribbles, like only scribbles is what she does. And then when she says shark, Anna pauses, clears the page,
essentially. And we see Aisha at her house, feeling this moment happening and focusing,
and on a foggy window at her house, drawing a shark. And as Aisha draws the shark, Anna draws the shark on the magnetic
board. Cool. And then Aisha says something like, good job, Anna. That was good. And this
is the moment where Aisha's mom asks her, who are you talking to? And she says, oh, I'm talking to someone who's not here right now.
Okay. Okay.
Hungry?
Meanwhile, we see Ben at his house with some cocoa powder or something poured out on the
table that he has drawn a shark in as well. So he's
able to hear or somehow tap into their connection too. And his mom walks in, sees the mess that
he has made and aggressively grabs him. And so there's implications. Obviously we saw
the bruises earlier. There's definitely implications of
child abuse happening. And she's just like unnecessarily aggressively like yells at him
for some cocoa powder on the table and then sends him to bed. And while he is in bed,
he sits up, he looks like he gets this idea of something to do and he sits
up and he's focusing the way that we've seen him focus before when he's trying to move
things with his mind. But this time his eyes kind of roll up into the back of his head
and start, he starts twitching a little bit. So this is looking more intense than previous times.
And we see in Aisha's house, her mom watching TV after she's put Aisha to bed and Aisha
walks out into the living room. Her mom sees her and thinks she's sleepwalking or something, she seems like she's not really
there, she's not awake. Eventually, her mom is able to wake her up and snap her out of
it. As she snaps out of it, we see Ben's eyes return to normal and him snap out of it. Aisha's
mom asks her if she's okay, what happened? A And she says, Aisha says there was somebody in my room.
Oh my god. Poor Aisha's mom. The hitch just keep on coming. I really feel for this woman.

So Ben, by this point,
we're getting pretty bad vibes from Ben.
He's-
No, I'm scared of Ben.
Yeah, we're starting to feel scared of him is what it is.
He is a also like nine or 10 year old kid
with superpowers in an abusive home that's like not,
yeah, is like not,
yeah, is like not being taught any healthy coping mechanisms with anything and is feeling jealous of his friends
that also have superpowers and seems to be kind of like
taking it out on them and testing the limits
of what he can do to them.
Yeah, not a great combo.
Not a great combo.
So outside the next day, I just wrote in my notes, Ben is a turd.
Okay.
I can't remember what he does, but, oh, Aisha realizes that he fucked with her in the middle
of the night. So Aisha comes down to confront him and is kind of charging towards him. And before she can even get that close to him,
he does a little focusing face and she stops in her tracks, freezes, starts clutching at her heart
and like gasping for breath. Ida was with Ben, they were playing and Ida is looking really scared
watching what's happening, doesn't know what to do.
We're seeing Aisha being like...
Like, not able to breathe.
And eventually, Ida runs and just shoves Ben,
knocks him to the ground,
and it breaks the connection,
and so Aisha can get up and she's breathing. But then he's really
mad and focuses his attention now on Ida. And as he's focusing so hard, you see the
ground is rumbling a bit, he's really going to bring it all out. And we see just as he's about
to do something, Anna walking over the hill towards them and also clenching her fists.
And then they lock eyes. And it seems that in this moment, we find out Anna is the only one that can match Ben's
power. This is happening basically invisibly, but it reminded me a lot of the Harry Potter
and Voldemort, both of their wands shooting out.
Wands hitting in the middle.
They're just, to an outside perspective, basically just look like two kids standing and looking at each other, but that's what I'm feeling between them is this battle of who is stronger. And eventually they both
kind of fall to the ground. And we see that in this little showdown, a piece of twig or
like a two two inch little twig
has dug into Anna's leg, because they were by the woods.
And so there was just things kind of moving in the air.
And Anna has like not ever reacted to physical pain, right?
And she still isn't, but Ida sees it and is like,
oh, mom's gonna be mad.
So, oh, and I think she says something like, oh, it's okay.
She doesn't feel pain.
And Aisha says, yes, she does.
I know that she does.
She just cries on the inside and I feel it too.
And so you see Aisha holding her leg in the same spot
where Anna has this chunk of wood sticking in her.
And is Ida still seeming resentful of Anna or?
I think she's a little bit, but warming up to her,
like obviously she thinks the powers are very cool.
And so she's inviting her out
to play more or asking her to come play more. And so they're there. Anna is spending most
of her time with Aisha, but Ida seems yeah, to be a little less resentful. Okay. So I
think Ben runs off. So it's just the three of them, the three girls sitting
and talking for a bit. And after Aisha had said, you know, she feels the pain, it's like, you know,
saying we can, I can hear her thoughts, we can connect, like, I know that she feels the pain.
And she says, like, I think that I can get her to speak. She hasn't said anything in like eight years or something. And so Aisha just focuses really hard and
is saying like, come on, Anna, like, you can do it, you can do it, you can speak. And Anna
says, no. Whoa. But it's something. And Ida's eyes go wide and she's like, oh my God. And she
turns to Anna and is like, hi, hi. And Anna says hi. And it's a pretty amazing moment. Like everyone
is just shocked and smiling and like, oh my God, this is amazing. But then it's
nighttime or like the sun's going down and getting called in for dinner. And so they're
like, well, this is great. Like we'll see you tomorrow going back for dinner. But she
still got this twig in her leg. So they go, they go in and show their mom, like she's
got this in her leg. Her mom is upset with Ida and says, how did
this happen? And she says, oh, she fell. And she's like, no, this is not from fall. Okay,
no, you're lying. This couldn't happen from falling. And if you can't look out for your
sister or if you can't be honest with me, then I can't trust you with her. She can't come out with you anymore."
And Ida, I think in a little plea for Anna to still be able to come out with her, she's
like, but mom, when we were out there, she was speaking. She could speak. She said words.
And Ida's mom is like, that's not funny. That's not funny, Ida. And tells her that Anna cannot come out
with her tomorrow and to go to her room. We cut to Ben's house. He is watching his mom boil hot dogs and he focuses on this big pot of boiling water.
Oh no.
And it slides a little bit on the burner, slides back, splashes, really scares his mom.
He laughs and she turns to him and is like, what the fuck, like, what are you laughing
at? And as she's stepping towards him, a cast iron skillet from above that was like hanging
falls on her, hits her on the head, which we presume Ben probably did that as well.
And she collapses.
Whoa.
I mean, yeah, cast iron's heavy.
Yeah.
And then we see Aisha at her house at the dinner table with her mom and her mom's head
is dripping blood.
And she says, Mom, your head is bleeding.
Her mom's on the phone.
So it's kind of like, what?
And like rubs her head, looks at her hand, shakes her head.
She's like, no, no, I'm not.
And so it's just Aisha is just seeing it.
Then we go back to Ben's house. His mom seems
like unconscious on the floor, laying in front of the stove. And he focuses again on that boiling
pot of water and knocks it over so that all the boiling water pours on her legs.
that all the boiling water pours on her legs. And she's wearing a skirt,
so we immediately see her legs are blistering and red
and oh, it's really bad.
And Aisha throughout all of this
is sensing something really bad is happening.
And so, and she sees steam coming from her kitchen
and is like looking around trying to figure out
what is going on.
Ben looks at his mom bleeding from the head,
unconscious, her legs so fucked up, and he starts crying.
And then Aisha starts crying,
but Aisha doesn't know why she's crying.
She's just kind of silent,
like tears are just falling out of her eyes and she's wiping them away again,
like confused what's happening.
Ben's panicking and like getting cold rags,
like pouring cold water on rags
and like trying to tend to his mom's wounds,
but he just ends up just leaving her there.
He doesn't call for help or anything.
Oh God.
Could be a hard one to explain. A pot fell on her head at night, just ends up just leaving her there. He doesn't call for help or anything. Oh God.
It could be a hard one to explain. A pot fell on her head, it knocked her out,
she fell on the ground.
Then boiling water just poured all over her.
It was a horrible accident.
Oh my God, what can you do?
Who could have expected?
One of those classic one thing led to another.
We see that some time has passed
because the lighting in the house has changed,
so it's later and he's still sitting at the dining table just kind of looking at her, but we're
kind of doing his own thing. It's hard to tell what level of guilt he feels about it.
He's like partially happy about it and then partially like really freaking out about it. She regains consciousness and starts screaming, can't move, and is begging
him to call an ambulance. He just leaves the room. Back at Anna and Ida's house. I think this is the next day. Their mom is helping Anna wash her
hands. It's just the two of them. And you see her have this kind of hopeful look in
her eyes, the mom, and she says to Anna, hi, like, hello. And it's heartbreaking. She's trying to... Yeah, you just see this hope.
And Anna does not say anything.
And so her mom leaves to go get a towel for her hands or something.
And then we see Anna pushes the water coming from the tap.
So as she's reaching her hands under the water,
she moves the water so that it still doesn't hit her
hand. So just kind of changes the flow of the water.
We see they, her mom now is taking Anna down to play. She doesn't trust Ida to do it. So
her mom is sitting in the courtyard and there's a little sandbox that Anna is playing in. And then Aisha comes down
and sits next to her and her mom's far enough away that she can't hear what they're saying,
but she just smiles like, oh, this is sweet, seeing them play together. But then she kind
of notices that maybe Anna is speaking, like it looks like they're having a conversation.
And so she walks closer, right up next to the sandbox. And Aisha is like, oh, sorry
that we're making a mess. And her mom's smile, she's like, no, that's okay. Don't worry. And then Anna says, we'll
tidy up, mom. Don't worry.
Oh my gosh.
And her mom drops to her knees and starts crying. And Aisha is like, what's wrong? Are
you okay? And she just smiles and she's like, yeah, it's okay.
Everything's fine. It's such a, it's like, oh, I cried in this scene.
Oh, wow.
It's a lot. And then the mom takes Anna back up to their house to show her husband. And
we do kind of realize that it's stronger around Aisha more. And so we're kind of thinking
that it's not going to happen. But she like holds Anna in front of the dad and is like,
say, can you say papa? Can you say papa? And we see Aisha hearing this and focusing, and Aisha's focusing really hard and saying, Papa, Papa, Papa. And eventually,
Anna says, Papa. The mom and dad are like crying and holding each other. And we see
Aisha looking at a photo on her bedside table of her and her dad. So we assume that her dad has died or left because he is not
in the house with them. That night, Ben is, I think we see him like walking around his house with just
his mom's body laying in the same position. He does not ever call an ambulance for her
and I'm pretty sure she dies.
We don't ever like see a moment of her dying, I don't think.
But yeah, but I guess you would.
She's just laying there.
Cause she's bleeding from her head
and she has really, really bad burns.
Yeah.
Which like, yeah, you can just die
from surface area of burns, right?
I mean, certainly if you can't move, you're gonna die eventually.
So it's possible she's dying like a very slow death
of like thirst.
God.
But yeah, a really kind of chilling decision
also to have it just be in the background.
Like we never really address it again.
She's just sometimes still there laying in the background. We never really address it again. She's just
sometimes still there laying on the floor. That night, Ben is sitting up in his bed again
with the same eyes rolling up into the head. He's going to try to control someone again.
We see just a random guy that we've never seen before in this apartment building making
dinner, have a moment of his face going blank, him dropping his knives or whatever he was
using to cut up the vegetables with, and then just like a robot kind of walk out the door,
down the stairs out to there's a little bridge area over a
road outside of the building and this guy is standing in the middle of the bridge and we see
the guy that bullied Ben walking by. And as he passes him, the guy that's under Ben's control
doesn't react at first and the guy's just really creeped out
by him because he's just standing kind of unblinking,
standing on the bridge for no reason, seemingly.
And so he kind of hurries as he passes him.
But then as he's walking away, the guy turns,
grabs this big rock and just smashes him in the head. Kills him. But then as he's walking away, the guy grabs this big rock and just smashes him in
the head. Kills him. Fully dead. The next day, hear Aida's parents whispering about
it in the other room. She's in her bedroom, but can hear them being like, did Aida know
him? She's like, I don't think so, but it's so horrible. Aisha's
mom tells her, I want you to stay home today. I don't want you to go out. Ida puts two and
two together of which kid was killed and the fact that they're like, there's no explanation.
What would make that guy do this? They don't, they don't even know each other. So Ida's looking suspicious,
like she might know why this happened.
Really mean of Ben to just involve another guy.
I know, yeah.
Why couldn't he have used his powers
to make that kid do something to himself?
Yeah, great point.
I mean, Ben's a child and...
Yeah.
Has been abused and...
Yeah, I mean, the first time I watched this movie,
I was like, I hated Ben so much.
I was like, oh, this fucking kid, I could kill this kid.
And this time I was a lot more sympathetic.
Yeah, I mean, he's still like a scary bad kid,
but you definitely understand why he's a scary bad kid.
So, but she goes to play with him at their hideout,
and she's acting like everything's cool,
and she doesn't suspect anything.
Aida's smart.
Yeah.
She might not have superpowers,
but the ability to read a room, now that is a superpower.
Mm-hmm. superpowers, but the ability to read a room. Now that is a superpower.
And he, he doesn't tell her that he did it. But he said he's looking pretty freaked out. And he says, I think that I can, I
think that I can control what people do. And she says, what
do you mean? He's like, I can show you. And he does it on her.
And she's holding a big branch at first.
And we see her have the same reaction where her face goes kind of blank.
She stands up straight, she drops the branch and she just walks toward this rock and just
goes and sits on it.
Nothing like dangerous, but just clearly he's in the driver's seat for this and she comes back to like 10
feet away from where she was a minute ago. And he's like, what was that like? What happened?
Like how did you experience that? And she said, I was holding a snake and did you make
me see a snake? And he said, no, I don't think I can control anything
of what you are seeing,
but I just wanted you to move over there.
And so it seems like-
Her brain invented a reason why.
Yeah, yes.
So it just can be different for anyone,
but we'll do whatever it takes to get you to move
to the place that he wants you to move.
Now that is fascinating.
Yeah.
From even a screenwriting perspective,
being like, whoa, I didn't see that,
that's really cool.
Yeah.
Like your brain has to connect dots.
That's interesting.
And then he tells her he wants to go try something
and we see them. I don't want him to try any more things.
I know.
They're standing on this little overlook balcony-type area,
watching a bunch of kids play soccer,
and he's getting his little focusing face on,
and he's looking, and we're getting close-ups
of all these kids' legs as they're running around.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
They're like, no, no, I don't like this.
And I was like, what's happening?
Like, what are you about to do?
She's looking really nervous.
And it's really drawn out.
And you just like see all these legs for so long
and you really know what's coming.
And sure enough, eventually one of the kids' legs
like snaps, bone pops out. He screams bloody murder and
Ida looks pretty upset by this. I think Ida like goes back inside. Ida leaves him and
runs into the house and then it's like dinner time that night
and Anna is standing at the window of her house,
like looking out down to the ground
where Aisha is standing looking up at her
and telepathically is saying like, we need to stop him.
Like he's gonna hurt us.
He's starting to like, like hurting people.
Plus he's starting to like hurting people. And Anna's panicking and trying to open the door.
And obviously her mom is like, no, you can't go out by yourself.
Like sorry, not tonight.
Ida is saying like, oh, can we like go down for just a second?
Like I'll go with her.
And she says, no, not tonight.
And we're getting bad feelings.
It seems like this is
a matter of urgency.
Yeah.
Aisha is in bed. She's looking really scared. She asks if she can sleep in her mom's bed.
Her mom says yes. Her mom puts her to bed and goes out to the TV room is watching TV and crying, just kind of audibly crying
to herself. And the way that Aisha is overhearing this, it seems like this is a kind of regular
occurrence and almost as if she's like soothed by the sounds of her mom crying because it
seems like it means she's there and it's just like a regular routine type of thing.
Ugh, I'm so upset.
And so she's listening to that when her mom suddenly stops crying.
No.
And immediately Aisha's like, perks up like, in his bed, eyes rolled up into his head as the mom gets that
blank face, stands up.
And at this moment, Anna wakes up, Anna senses something is happening, she's panicking.
And we cut to Aisha's mom's point of view, like what she's
seeing. And it's almost like the Silent Hill world, or she's in like the Stranger Things upside down.
Like it's nasty. The color of the room is totally different. And she's just seeing
a like human figure crawling around at the end of the hallway.
Oh no.
That looks like a intruder, but also kind of a monster.
Oh, but I think it's her daughter.
No.
And she grabs a big kitchen knife.
No.
Anna is screaming and screaming.
Her mom runs into the room and is trying to soothe her,
but doesn't know what's happening. We see now from Aisha's point of view as she's walking down
the hallway towards her mom, who we see the knife in her hand that she hides behind her back. She's
just like dead behind the eyes, like looks like a zombie walking towards Aisha. Aisha's scared and is like,
mommy, why are you looking at me like that? Mommy, don't be like that. And we see again
from her mom's point of view, who is seeing just like a monstrous creature in the hallway.
And Aisha goes to try to hug her mom.
She's like, mom, just, just like relax and goes and hugs.
And her mom stabs her in the back.
And Anna is like, yeah, feeling it and sobbing and screaming
and trying to get out, but they're like having
to hold her down.
It's extremely, extremely
upsetting. God. Ben drops control of the mom. So then the mom comes to and also obviously
panicking, calls an ambulance. It's so sad. It's so fucking sad. Aisha doesn't die straight
away and she's like asking for a band-aid and her mom's like,
yes, you can have a band-aid, you can have a band-aid and is just holding her as she's
bleeding out in her arms and Aisha dies.
Oh no.
The next day we see, or I guess it's probably a couple days later, we see Ida and her dad
walking back from the grocery store or something and they walk past a little memorial for Ida.
There's a little place where there's a photo of her and people have laid down flowers and
candles.
I mean, did her mom go to prison?
I mean, I presume so.
And her dad says something like, oh, just awful. And like you knew her
a little bit, right? And Ida says yes. And Ida says, your mom would never do anything
like that, right? And she can't ask the question that she wants to ask because she knows that
it was like, Ben, Ben controlling the mom, but it's also,
you see that she's now scared of her own parents,
not in a like, she's scared of Ben,
but she's scared of her parents being able to do the same.
There's nothing she can trust, yeah.
Right.
Nowhere is safe.
And I can't remember, I've seen my notes,
I wrote this, and I can't remember the context,
but there is a moment where Ida hugs Anna. Like they get home and she really hugs Anna.
Like there's a really tender moment between them where she really recognizes Anna's pain
and the loss of Aisha, how much Anna is feeling that. And
you see Ida get this look of determination on her face of like, okay, something's got
to be done because we're probably fucking next. And Ben needs to be dealt with. And
as her mom is putting her to bed that night, she says, mom, what do
you do when someone is mean? And again, she like can't have the conversation she wants
to have. But her mom says something like, oh, you tell an adult, obviously you tell
an adult, tell me.
Okay, but beyond that.
And she says, what if you are an adult? And she says, well, well, you'd maybe call the
police or maybe it's something you'd have to deal with yourself. And so Ida gets this
resolve that she's going to have to deal with this herself. And the next morning she is
heading out of the apartment when she looks back at her mom and
runs and gives her mom a really big hug. Her mom is very surprised by this. It's like,
is everything okay? She's like, yeah, I just want you to know that I really love you. She's
like, okay.
Ida goes over to Ben's house, knocks on the door, asks him to play. She brings over
a toy that's like a big paper airplane, essentially. It's like an airplane kite type thing. If
you throw it, it goes pretty far. And she's like, you want to play? So they go, she's
like, we got to get some height. We got to get some good height so that it'll fly far. And there's a moment where he's like suspicious of her, but she's doing
a great job acting like she's none the wiser of what's been killing all these children
in the building.
After he told her that he can make things happen to people.
Yes. Yes. And he's like, okay, like, yeah, let's go. And you can see that he's relieved that she doesn't realize
it's him. And so he's being normal, doesn't know she's up to anything. And she takes him to the
bridge where the kid was killed and says, we can throw it off the bridge and it'll go pretty far.
And the higher you get, the better it'll be. So he climbs up on the ledge of this bridge.
She's like, you do it, you can do it. Hands him the airplane. And he's standing on the edge of this, like, overpass type thing. And a woman comes around the corner with a stroller and is like, hey, be careful, kid. Like, what are you doing?
And Ida looks at the woman and then just shoves Ben off of the bridge and runs.
And it's like, well, Ida, that was a pretty, there's a witness there.
Yeah.
But again, kids.
But yeah, she felt like she had one chance and one chance only and she took the opportunity.
But we look over the edge, the ledge and see that he has landed on the grass and he's okay.
Oh no.
Oh, Ida, mistakes were made. And he gets up and he scowls at her and she starts running.
But pretty quickly, the world turns into a silent hill
slash stranger things, upside down world.
And we see all these huge men in the distance
walking towards her. One of them is missing a leg, and so it's taking one step with a full length leg and then slumping down to take a step
with the half leg. I'm thinking this is maybe because she's seen this kid that had the leg break, like snap. And so it's incorporating
that fear into it. We know her subconscious is like steering her wherever Ben wants her
to be. And so we cut to reality and see that she is, as she's kind of stepping backwards
away from these scary ass men that are coming towards her. She is stepping into
the road, this highway where the bridge is. And a car is coming full speed. And I can't remember
what happens. I think someone yells or something breaks Ben's concentration enough that at the very last second she comes to
and dives out of the way, but the car hits her leg, flings her leg and cut to black.
She wakes up in the hospital. Her mom is at her bedside and is asking her what happened and she says we were just playing. Her mom
says really? Because a woman said it seemed like you pushed your friend and she's like, no, no, it was just playing. It was just playing.
And her mom kind of nods and is like, okay.
And then I'd ask what happened to the boy.
She's like, oh, it's okay.
Like he's fine.
She's like, oh, okay, great.
Now Ida is on crutches, her leg is in a cast, and they're both her and the whole family
is up in the apartment. We see Ben outside staring in their window from below and she
looks really scared because she knows that he's going to try to kill her. And we see her mom slicing vegetables
and then slowly stop and like look over her shoulder.
And Ida runs and locks herself in the bathroom.
Okay.
And then her mom calls through the door,
Ida, I forgot something at the grocery store.
Can you stay with Anna?
And it's just very funny.
Cause like the look on her face was that look
when you're like, oh fuck, what did I forget?
But it did, it looked like it could have gone either way.
It could have been a murder look
or a forgetting something at the grocery store.
So she's like, can you watch Anna?
And she says, yeah.
So the dad's not there, I guess.
So it's just Anna and Ida in the house now.
And she comes out of the bathroom and Anna is gone.
She's looking all around for her.
The door's open.
She realizes Anna has gone downstairs to confront Ben.
She's the only one who can.
Yeah. And so Ben now,
they like end up on opposite sides of this pond.
Anna on one side, Ben on the other.
Ida desperately trying to get down to help,
but they live on a pretty high floor and there's-
She's got a broken leg.
She's got a broken leg and so she's getting really frustrated
trying to go down the stairs in her crutches. Once again, we get this showdown between Anna and Ben.
Harry Potter and Voldemort.
Harry Potter and Voldemort where they are just clenching their fists staring at each
other. Now there's quite a few other families in the park and around the pond. It's almost
like a little sandy beach
area. You see a lot of parents with their kids in strollers and none of them are noticing
anything is happening except for some of the kids. Some of the kids are turning their heads
and looking at them. Then we see a couple other kids come out onto their balconies, watching Anna and Ben.
And we see ripples in the water coming from Ben's direction
over to Anna's direction.
And as it gets to Anna, she falls down.
We see Ida again, scrambling to try to get down and she yells in frustration and
just goes, ah, and her cast bursts off.
She has powers.
She dug down deep and got those powers to break her cast off.
She probably needs that cast.
I know.
But now she runs down the stairs and we see like all the same kids are still staring.
Ben's walking off.
He thinks the confrontation is over,
but Anna's brushing herself off.
She's getting back up.
She's not fucking done yet.
And there's like babies crying and it gets a little windy.
So we know that some psychic energy is in the air
that all these kids are tuning into.
All the parents are just ignorant of it all.
Just kind of like, oh, why is my kid crying?
Ida finally makes it down next to Anna, holds her hand
and gives this like boost of power.
And Ben feels it now obviously, and he he turns and falls into a swing set. He's
sitting on a swing and he's still trying to fight back and he's clenching his wrists.
But all these kids are looking at him now. Anna and Ida are holding hands. It's so many
against Ben and you hear his heartbeat going like faster and faster and faster and then
stopping and he slumps down onto the swing.
Whoa.
Ben's dead.
Holy shit.
And they just turn around and walk back home. As they sit down, their mom comes in and Ida runs up and hugs her and is like crying.
And she's like, what's wrong? And she's like, I just love you.
And Anna sits down, picks up her little magnetic drawing thing, starts doing her scribbling
again and wipes it clear and then is about to draw something and pauses.
She's having a little feeling.
And that's the end of the movie.
Whoa.
Crazy.
It's honestly a beautiful story.
It's really good.
I really loved it.
It's like a happy ending.
Yeah, it is like...
For everyone except Aisha and Ben.
Yeah.
But it is very much just like a good versus evil story.
And like Ben is not necessarily...
It's complicated, obviously.
It's complicated.
It's not like evil, but yeah, it's like, it's really good.
And the kids are so good in it.
Like how crazy to write a movie
that's all like nine-year-olds.
So bold.
And children should not have jobs.
They should not have jobs,
but damn these kids are good at their jobs.
I do love to see a good kid in them, yeah.
Those kids are good at their jobs.
Yeah, so that's the innocence.
Henley is not listening.
I mean, yeah, I guess Henley would hate it,
but I'm sort of like, it's not even bad.
Yeah.
It's like, I don't know.
Yeah, but two children do die.
That's true, and some kids get their legs broken.
Yeah, a lot of kids being in over their heads.
Yeah, kids receiving trauma and yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure.
Yeah, I don't think she would have liked it.
Well, I loved it.
But I loved it, I'm glad you loved it,
and I'm glad you got to talk about it.
And I think anytime Henley's out,
I'm just gonna always remember to take the opportunity.
Some other ones that-
Oh, plenty more where that came from.
Plenty more where that came from.
I threw out a couple options when evil lurks
and I can't remember the name of the other one now,
but we'll do them eventually.
We'll do them eventually.
We'll send Henley off on another little vacation.
There's plenty of movies where children die.
Really, really a prime subject in horror that we've,
you know, we can't entirely avoid even when Henley is here,
but we can really dig in.
We can dig in when she's gone.
Yeah.
And I'm glad that we did.
I really enjoyed it.
Yeah, and I mean, childhood is a scary time.
I feel like a lot of horror is like from parent perspective,
like the fears of parenthood.
And there's like probably some explorations of it,
but it does really remind you of being a kid
and feeling like,
you know, you can't tell your parents everything,
that wanting to be able to deal with your problems yourself.
And realizing that your parents can't always help you,
like how scary that is, that realization.
Also, just even at the beginning,
like Ida doing her own bullying of Anna,
just because she's a kid and is frustrated
and like causing her pain thinking that Anna can't feel it but just not being
aware that she feels a different like can't express it and like the
realization like oh she's been feeling all the pain I've been causing her and
all of it is yeah it's really it's really scary and kids oh I mean kids
grow up to be people it's like there's a lot going on in there.
They're not people when they're kids.
But yeah, that is the innocence.
Wow.

Oh my God.
Fuck, what's like any good starting phrase for
Frekele, flottum, flottum, flottum
from all of us here at Tuskegee?
That sounded like Dracula.
Tuskegee didn't watch.
A lot of accents turn into Dracula for me
when I try to do them.
Yeah, I really do like all the Scandinavian accents.
Yeah, it's good.
But I have not practiced doing them very much.
No, me neither.
So from all of us here at Tuskegee didn't watch.
So Dracula it is.
Dracula, goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye.
We did it.
We made it.

That was a head gum podcast.
Hi, guys, I'm Ago Wodim.
Check out my new show.
Thanks, Dad. Now on head gum.
I was raised by a single mom and I don't have a relationship with my dad.
And spoiler, I don't think I'm ever going to have one with him because he's dead.
But I promise you that's okay because on my new podcast, I sit down with father figures
like Bill Burr, Kenan Thompson, Adam Pally, Hassan Minaj, Tim Meadows, Andy Cohen, and
many, many more.
I get to ask them the questions I've always wanted to ask a dad like, how do I know if
the guy I'm dating is the one?
Or how can I change the oil in my car?
Can you even show me that?
Or better yet, can you help me perfect my jump shot?
I am so bad at basketball.
Oh my gosh.
Maybe I'm bad at basketball because I don't have a dad,
but subscribe to Thanks Dad on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts,
