The terrifying shootout on New York's Upper East Side surveillance video capturing officers exchanging gunfire. with a man who allegedly threatened to shoot up a hospital. Swamp stakeout, a Florida man fleeing officers running into gator-infested waters.

A chimpanzee escaping from her zoo enclosure, visitors forced to shelter in other exhibits, how she was finally captured. And the Englishman in New York, Grammy-award-winning musician, Sting sitting down with her own Chloe Malas, what he revealed to her about his new project in The Big Apple. Plus, the breaking news out of the White House, the major tariff reversal on food items, including coffee, bananas, and beef. Could you see a drop in grocery prices?
Starting point is 00:01:38 Top story. It starts right now. And good evening. We begin this Friday night with Heartbreak in California, a famed college football coach and star of a major Netflix series gunned down on his own college campus. Police say John Beam, the athletic director and former. football coach at Laney College in Oakland, California, was shot just before noon on Thursday and rushed to the hospital. Officials tonight confirming Beam had died from his injuries. He was 66 years old. You may recognize the beloved coach from Netflix's hit docu-series
Starting point is 00:02:14 Last Chance You, known for shaping young lives both on and off the field. The tributes pouring in tonight, the mayor of Oakland calling him a, quote, giant in the community. And his former players turned professional, remembering his life-changing impact. As the community mourns officials confirming they have arrested a suspect, 27-year-old Cedric Irving Jr. He's a former football player at a high school being used to coach at. Police say, but you never coached the suspect, but he knew him. Still so many questions remain about how and why this senseless act of violence happened.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Liz Kreutz has followed it all for us tonight. Tonight, the city of Oakland mourning the death of beloved football coach John Beam, who gained fame from the Netflix series Last Chance You. Unfortunately, Coach Beam passed away this morning from a gunshot wound that he sustained yesterday. According to police, Beam was shot and killed Thursday at Laney College, or he served as athletic director. This was a very targeted incident. Early this morning, authorities arresting a suspect, 27-year-old Cedric Irving Jr., a former football player at an Oakland high school where Beam once coached. Police say Irving never played for him, and that recently the suspect was known to loiter around the Laney College campus.
Starting point is 00:03:26 I will say that Coach Beam, although they did not have a close relationship, was open to helping everybody in our community. For decades, Beam has been a pillar of Oakland. In 2018, Laney College became the top-ranked junior college football team in the country under his leadership. Touchdown! The defending state and national champions. The story documented in season five of the Netflix show Last Chance You. Put that up! Put that up! Many of Beam's former players, some now in the NFL, sharing emotional tributes. Rajan Wright, who plays for the New Orleans Saints, posting, You Mean the World to Me. His brother, Nishon Wright, with the Chicago Bears, sharing this photo with a broken heart emoji.
Starting point is 00:04:05 An absolutely incredible human being. Among those also honoring his life, the chief of police for the neighboring city of Piedmont, who told reporters today he's known Coach Beam since the eighth grade. John was so much more than a coach. He was a father figure to thousands of not only men, but young women in our community. And I know that if coach was here, he would end by saying two claps ready, ready. Liz Coitz joins us tonight live. And Liz, you know, what we know here, police are saying the alleged suspect knew the victim here, right?
Starting point is 00:04:40 But he had never coached him. What are police saying about a motive then? Yeah, all police have said right now is that they believe the suspect went to the campus for a very specific reason. They have not given that reason, and they have not said anything about a motive. They're waiting to give out more information until after the prosecutors, the district attorney filed charges against the suspect that has not happened yet. NBC News has attempted to reach out to the suspect and family members. We've been unable to reach anybody at this time. But Tom, I will say, you know, police said they didn't have a close relationship, but said it was not uncommon for him to have a relationship with somebody that he believed needed help.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Tom. Okay, Liz Kreutz, who's been following this one for us. We're also tracking some breaking news out of Washington and a major investigation. announcement moments ago from the White House. President Trump exempting a number of food items from the massive list of tariffs imposed on nearly every U.S. trading partner. It's part of Trump's new push to lower cost for Americans to break down what exactly could be coming down in price and when you could feel the impact. I want to bring in NBC News Business and Data Correspondent. You know him. Brian Chung is joining us live. So Brian, walk us through the different products we could see sort of
Starting point is 00:05:49 a drop in price. Yeah, Tom, this breaking in just the last few hours, the White House making what I think is fair to say, the most dramatic rollbacks to their reciprocal tariffs that they announced in the Rose Garden earlier in the year. What we're talking about are categories like beef, tomatoes, coffee, cocoa, bananas. These are things that the administration had been teasing earlier in the week, but it also includes other exotic fruits, mangoes. It also includes things like nuts, teas, spices. It's a 98-page document with all of these categories that are now exempted from these tariffs that the president put in place himself. And what was interesting, Tom, is that the annex also included a list of other items that could potentially be exempt in the future.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Someone at the White House telling me on background that basically they see that as a negotiating tool for other countries, basically telling them if the United States can get some deals out of them, these other products could get exempt in the future. Do we know yet when Americans will start feeling this, seeing this at the grocery stores? Well, it's not going to be overnight. And when you look at something like coffee, for example, there's also drought conditions that are leading to prices being a lot higher than they were at the beginning of this year. But certainly when you look at things at the grocery store, many things have gotten more expensive, with the exception of maybe chicken in some cases. You take a look at beef prices, tomato prices, milk prices.
Starting point is 00:06:57 They all been up, except for eggs. That's one thing that the administration has been talking about that is down since March. But affordability is an issue of Americans. They took that to the election ballot box last week. I think that's a reason why the administration. Yeah, and talk to us about that for a second if you can, because in poll after poll, we showed, this is still the top issue now for Americans. Yeah, well, affordability is absolutely an issue.
Starting point is 00:07:17 And when you talk about food prices, the reason why people dial into food prices so closely is because those are the prices that they notice the most. They're going to the store every week, likely buying the same things. They know when prices go up or when they go down as of late. They've been going up more than they've been going down. That's something that people have been thinking about, Tom. Brian, Chunk for us here. Brian, we thank you for breaking that down. We're also following the growing fallout from those new documents in the Jeffrey Epstein case. President Trump today ordering an investigation into high-profile Democrats tied to Epstein, including former President Bill Clinton, who has just
Starting point is 00:07:47 put out a statement, Gabe Gutierrez has the latest from the White House. Tonight, Attorney General Pam Bondi assigning a U.S. attorney for a new investigation after President Trump asked her to look into Jeffrey Epstein's ties to high-profile figures and institutions like former President Clinton and J.P. Morgan Chase. Posting, the Democrats are doing everything in their withering power to push the Epstein hoax. Don't waste your time with Trump. I have a country to run. Bondi's move is a sharp contrast from a justice to Department memo this summer stating that the FBI did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties related to Epstein. This all comes after Democrats
Starting point is 00:08:28 released Epstein emails mentioning Trump. Next week, the House is expected to vote on whether to force the release of the DOJ's Epstein case files. The president's slamming Republicans who vote yes as soft and foolish. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green says she will vote yes and criticizes Trump's opposition. I think it's a huge miscalculation, and I truly just stand with the women. While also defending the president. The women themselves have said that Donald Trump did nothing wrong. Trump has never been accused of wrongdoing link to Epstein. Clinton spokesperson says the emails prove Bill Clinton did nothing and knew nothing. J.P. Morgan Chase says we regret any association we had with the man, but did not help him commit his heinous acts.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Gabe Gutierrez is live at the White House. Gabe, I know you have some news coming in. The president speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One. Yeah, that's right, Tom. And this is significant because for the past three days or so, the president has not taken any questions regarding Jeffrey Epstein. But right now, he's on his way to Palm Beach, and he is addressing it. He's saying that he had a very bad relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. And he's also trying to brush off any concerns regarding these emails. He's also saying that his new investigation that you just heard that he ordered from his attorney general will find out more about Epstein's ties to prominent Democrats, as we reported. He says former President Clinton and others. Also, Tom, we are getting a brand new statement from the office of Bill Clinton just within the past few moments.
Starting point is 00:10:02 It says these emails proved Bill Clinton did nothing and knew nothing. The rest is noise meant to distract from election losses, backfiring shutdown. and who knows what else, Tom. All right, so former President Bill Clinton firing back. We have been speaking with the Epstein accusers all week since these emails were released. What are we hearing today? That's right. There's a new statement that includes family members of Virginia Dufreux, one of the most
Starting point is 00:10:27 prominent accusers of Jeffrey Epstein. They are once again urging lawmakers next week to vote to release all of the Epstein files. Okay. Gabe Gutier is at the White House. Gabe, thanks. We want to go now to that dangerous fire and flood threat. at this hour more than 22 million are under flash flood alerts evacuation warnings issued with concerns over potential mudslides this has fast-moving wildfires continue to burn in central
Starting point is 00:10:51 california dana griffin in california tonight for us tonight 23 million under flood watches in southern california as rain already pouring down is only expected to intensify in the coming days with evacuation orders through sunday morning la deputies going door to door, warning residents in high-risk zones to leave, including where the deadly L.A. fires left behind burn scars. There's now an elevated risk of mudslides. You always have to be cautious around here. It doesn't take much for these cells to start coming down. As much as six inches of rain is forecasted through Saturday night. Slick highways no help to cars like this one, needing to be pulled by cable out of a ditch. These images captured by KMBC's chopper showing how
Starting point is 00:11:40 high winds toppled a massive tree on this family's pickup. We've been through a lot with this car and seeing it like this, it's like sad. It's like losing a family member. We're now officially driving into hell. Closer to the Nevada border, this was the scene yesterday as one woman captured the terrifying scenes of the pack fire by Highway 395. I've never seen anything like this. The pack fire reaching more than 3,000 acres and damaging more than a dozen
Starting point is 00:12:10 structures, but tonight officials say it's largely under control. Back in Southern California, Governor Newsom already deploying additional resources preparing for what could be an increasingly dangerous situation. Dana Griffin joins us tonight from Altadena, California. Dana, you're near one of those burn scars. What are people there doing to prepare if the situation quickly deteriorates? They've already gone through so much. They really have, Tom. And so we can see there are sandbags already in place. And we've also got these concrete barrier. And this is why this particular area, the burn scar zone, is of major concern because once that top layer of soil is burned off, it leaves it prone to oversaturation. Behind me, we've got additional barriers so that in case debris flows happen over the weekend, it will prevent it from going over into the roadway and possibly down below to those other homes.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Tom? Dana, while I have you there, how worried are people about this storm where you're living? Yeah, you know, people are really concerned, Tom, because. In areas like this, there are potential for debris flows. We've seen sheriff deputies going door to door knocking, telling people to leave. A couple said they are planning to stay put. But officials say they want people to be prepared so that no one's caught off guard. We face a lot of death and destruction earlier this year during those deadly wildfires.
Starting point is 00:13:31 That's why officials have overprepared just in case things take a very drastic turn. Okay. Dana Griffin, for us, Dana, we appreciate it. Let's get right to NBC meteorologist Bill Karens. Bill, we're going to start with the storm and talk about the wildfires in a moment, though. But how bad is this going to be and when does it all get going? Late tonight, when people wake up in Southern California tomorrow morning, they're going to realize that the storm is there. Now, today it was on and off light, rainy, so where Dana was located. It was kind of cloudy, breezy occasionally.
Starting point is 00:13:57 But tomorrow is the real storm. The overall is the atmospheric river. That's just a fancy term for a lot of moisture coming out of the tropics that's pointed at a direction. And you can just see it. It's heading straight into Southern California. So when the storm intensifies, it's going to tap into that, and it's going to just produce an epic amount of rain. Even by Southern California standards, this is going to be a significant storm. They probably get maybe a handful, maybe five or six storms during the rainy season, which goes from November until about March or April.
Starting point is 00:14:23 And this will probably be one of the biggest ones they're going to see of the entire winter season. That's why we've got 23 million people under flood watches. This does not include San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento. You had your storm yesterday. This is all focusing on the L.A. area where the fires were located from, Santa Barbara, Altadena, southwards, down towards San Diego. So this is as we go through tonight. Notice that's kind of light.
Starting point is 00:14:43 See the yellows? Then all of a sudden you see all the bright reds. That's our future cast showing us where the torrential rain is going to be. This is at 8 a.m. And just watch this go throughout the day tomorrow through the same areas here. And when it hits the mountains, it even rings it out more. So that's why we're talking about the possibility of some historic rainfall totals. By Sunday, we watch everything kicking out.
Starting point is 00:15:02 By about Sunday morning, all the flooding and whatever damage happens from those mud and debris flows should be over with. So rainfall totals pretty impressive. LA, we're still expecting an additional almost four inches of rain. The wettest November day ever in Los Angeles history was five and a half inches. So this is going to be likely top five all time. And that's why we have such concerns with the flooding throughout this region. And even down by San Diego, Tom, it's not just an LA thing. This is all of SoCal. And then Bill, we're getting some new video of scorched land as the packed fire continues to burn in Central California. Wow, look at that. This is Central California. What more do we know about that wildfire. Yeah, if people know the Crowley Lake area, Mammoth Lake and Mammoth Mountains,
Starting point is 00:15:40 a huge ski resort in areas of California, not too far from there. And this was driven by dry conditions, as you can see, no snowpack whatsoever. It's mostly a rural area, but this thing was moving so fast with 60 mile per hour winds that it was just blowing and heading, you know, rapidly wherever it went. Thankfully, this rain, the fire is going to be located, you know, is located roughly right about this area here. So they're going to pick up anywhere between one to two inches of rain. This will put the flames out. It'll probably still be smoldering, but we do not expect it to be any more of a problem.
Starting point is 00:16:09 The concerns were yesterday, Tom, we're just about done with the packfire. Okay, Bill Carrens, Bill, we thank you for that. We also have some breaking news from America's airports. After weeks of travel headaches across the country, the Department of Transportation, saying tonight it's now lowering those flight restrictions imposed in response to staffing issues during the shutdown.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Emily, Aked is live for us at Newark Airport. Emily, those 6% flight restrictions were originally scheduled through the weekend. Walk us through the change officials are making tonight. Yeah, so we are just learning from the Department of Transportation in FAA that they are starting to pool their foot off the break, if you will, announcing that 6% of flights that have been cut will start to be reduced, as you mentioned, to 3% beginning tomorrow. And they say that as a result of, here's this in a statement in part reading,
Starting point is 00:16:55 the decision reflects improvements in air traffic controller staffing levels and a continued decline in staffing trigger events across national airspace system. And this comes as we are already seeing signs of progress. Today, for instance, there were more than 600 flight cancellations across the U.S. Sounds like a big number. It is a big number, significant and very disruptive. However, you look at the landscape of the past week and weeks even during the government shutdown, and that number in a single day would top even 1,000 cancellations for a single day.
Starting point is 00:17:25 So we are seeing signs of improvement, and that as the government has reopened, and we are seeing improvement in those staffing shortages, especially among the, air traffic controllers who today received 70% of their paychecks. And the government and U.S. officials say they're working swiftly to try to finish that back pay as they, as more people are returning to work and they're trying to get these flight schedules returning to normal. Of course, just in time, just ahead of the very critical, the very busy Thanksgiving holiday rush, which is anticipated to draw a record 31 million passengers on board planes, which really gets underway, Tom, next week.
Starting point is 00:18:04 And then, Emily, today is the day the Trump administration is formally withdrawing a Biden-era plan to compensate some passengers for travel disruptions. What more do we know about that? And how do you kind of explain that to our viewers? Yeah, so just as a reminder, this was an initiative that was introduced during the Biden administration, as officials at the time had said, as a way to really stand up for passenger rights. It came at a time when we were seeing the number of flight cancellations and delays really on the rise. And so they rolled out that this plan that basically said they would require airlines to pay cash compensation, as you see on your screen, for not just cancellations, but also delays, free rebooking on the next available flight and reimbursement for meals, lodging, and transportation expenses. There are some countries that require airlines to do such things, but this, of course, never went into effect with, as you mentioned, the Trump administration sharing that they formally withdrew the plan, the Biden-era plan today. We also know that airlines had pushed back against it, saying that this kind of rule could push up operating costs and also ticket prices. But I think right now, passengers, what they're really eager for is a break, some calm, a break from this travel turbulence.
Starting point is 00:19:15 And then also with in mind, Tom, the chance, the possible threat of another government shutdown around the corner at the early start of next year, Tom. Okay, Emily Akenaferst. Emily, thank you. Still ahead. The new clashes erupting outside a Chicago area ice facility. Nearly two dozen protesters arrested. We'll show you the tense moments. Plus, the startling scene of dirt bike slamming into a car. The massive fireball erupting how the teen rider who caught fire miraculously walked away. And chaos at the zoo after a chimpanzee escapes its enclosures.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Second graders forced to shelter in place what it took to eventually capture that animal. Stay with us. We're back with this disturbing video out of California. A dirt bike slamming into a car, erupting into a huge fireball. That teen biker somehow surviving. It's the latest in a string of dangerous dirt bike incidents nationwide. Morgan Chesky has the new video. In California, a dirt bike turned fireball.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Flames erupting after police say a 16-year-old ran a red light on a bike that wasn't street legal. Vehicle versus motorcycle. It looks like the motorcycle rider is on fire. The teen somehow walking away with a broken ankle, but the incident highlighting dangerous encounters nationwide. In Massachusetts, Fall River Police cracked down during a street takeover as dozens tried to escape. Get them. You can't ride.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Police arresting five, posting, We will rip you off your bike, tow it, and provide you with free transport to our jail. Stop your bike, no! In Florida, a 15-year-old now facing felony charge. after leading officers last week through rush hour traffic. The chase ending without injury, unlike that California fireball. Your hair caught fire.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Yes, the top of my head caught fire. Brianna Vargas now recovering. She was driving the car the teenager slammed into. You know, I'm beyond grateful that I'm okay and that he's okay and that it's been a lot worse, you know. Here in Los Angeles, following a string of high-speed chases. And they're causing a great danger to the people out there in the community. community. LAPD issuing a warning, stressing their street racing task force will arrest riders and impound bikes in an effort to keep streets safer.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Morgan Chesky joins us live tonight. Morgan, it seems like we see these stories about dirt bikes and e-bike crashes on a daily basis. How big of a problem is this nationwide? Do we know why it's growing? Yeah, Tom, anecdotally, we've seen these incidents in Florida, Massachusetts, and here in California. There is currently not one database that tracks all of them. And We know that e-bikes are being tracked, but these were specifically gas-powered dirt bikes. I can't speak to that here in Los Angeles, LAPD has created this specific task force to try and cut down on that dangerous driving that's often associated with street racing. And at the first quarter of this year alone, Tom, they noted 188 incidents of these street takeovers that took place across the L.A. metro area. They are most active on the weekends.
Starting point is 00:22:25 And Tom, they're already looking at some of those high-impact intersections, putting up rubber barriers and other items in hopes of trying to cut down on this crime. Tom. Morgan, we thank you. And some scary moments at the Indianapolis Zoo today after a chimpanzee escaped from its enclosure. The zoo locked down and elementary school students on a field trip sheltering in their buses. NBC's Jesse Kirsch has more on how they got the chimp back into her enclosure. This photo taken today at the Indianapolis Zoo after that female. Chimpanzee escaped her enclosure, prompting a lockdown.
Starting point is 00:22:59 The one on top is just animated and hooting and hollering and parading around. Visitor Tom Fyrack was walking around as it all unfolded. And I'm like, wait a minute, this chimpanzee can just climb down here and, you know, we'll be exchanging high fives here in a second, and it may not turn out so well. Squad 13. Ambulance 11. EMS-91-200 West Washington Street at Indianapolis Zoo. Animal Bite. It turns out no one was bidding. The zoo says the female chimp got loose around 10 a.m. sparking that lockdown. One local school district says field trips, including a group of second graders, sheltered on their buses.
Starting point is 00:23:36 It appears the chimp at times was moving on top of this trail, seen here in zoo video. The chimpanzee was sedated and returned to her exhibit. Zoo guests were safe at all times. There were no injuries to guests, zoo staff, or the animal. FIRAC says he took these photos while he was stuck in a zoo cafe for well. over an hour. You could see the chimp starting to become more lethargic. Absolutely, yeah. She started slowing down. She started leaning on the cage up there, and then eventually she just kind of, you know, slumped over. Thankfully, now everyone's reportedly okay after a truly wild
Starting point is 00:24:14 day at the zoo. Jesse Kirsch, NBC News. But here we have more Jesse Kirsch tonight. Jesse, great to see you there. Thankfully, no one was heard here, but those chimpanzees, They could pose a real danger to people. Yeah, absolutely, Tom. If you take a look at any number of video clips, you could probably search out there, nature documentaries, our own teams reporting going back even from years. These are creatures that can be violent. They are, of course, wild animals and something else to keep in mind,
Starting point is 00:24:43 even if you thought that you were evenly matched with a chimpanzee in terms of size and shape, one expert telling our team in years past that the way that our biology differs from a chimpanzee, they could potentially be using more muscle, more strength, all in, so to speak, compared to how we would react in a fight situation. Again, of course, this did not happen today. Very important to stress. No one was injured, according to the zoo, which is great news. This seems to have been handled very quickly, all things considered.
Starting point is 00:25:13 But, of course, there is always that danger, and that is a great reminder of why there is that gap between us and animals when you're at a place such as a zoo, Tom. Okay, Jesse. Coming up, the new ruling in the University of Idaho killings, what Brian Coburger has been ordered to pay to the families of his victims, an officer searching gator-infested waters for a suspect who took off into a swamp where he was eventually found. But first, top story's top moment and a follow-up to a story we brought you last night when we introduced you to Scott Kelly, the man whose resume was caught being viewed at a Jonas Brothers concert
Starting point is 00:25:46 and instantly went viral. Well, last night, the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon had the Jonas Brothers on and surprised them with the internet's most wanted job candidate. Take a look. The real Scott Kelly is here. Everyone, please welcome Scott Kelly. We found it. Hey, this is the Jonah's brother.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Hey. Scott, it's a pleasure to meet you. Can I give you a hug? Oh, yeah, absolutely, brother. Can I share your real thing? Yeah, please. I had never heard of you before this. Kelly definitely knows who's.
Starting point is 00:26:23 the Jonas brothers are now. Stay with us. More news on the way. We're back now with violent police clashes outside an ice facility near Chicago. Officials say four officers were injured in nearly two dozen people arrested. The mayor they're now speaking out against the protesters. Shaq Brewster's on the ground in Illinois for us tonight. Tonight clashes an arrest outside the Broadview Ice Detention facility near Chicago. Broadview's mayor saying four officers were injured, three of them hospitalized, saying violence by protesters was, quote, outrageous. Twenty-one people were arrested at this facility, which has become a flashpoint for demonstrations
Starting point is 00:27:07 against President Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration. Today's protest planned by a group of religious leaders, calling on detainees to receive spiritual care. Those people need to be released and recognized and given their rights back. You're here because of the detainees in that facility. Oh, yeah. I'm here for them. All of it after a federal judge spent more than four hours inspecting the same ice facility, part of a lawsuit filed by attorneys for migrants.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Another judge ordering the federal government to make improvements calling the conditions unnecessarily cruel. DHS says detainees are adequately provided with food, clothing, shelter, and medical care. And now new ICE enforcement operations in Florida. DHS saying over a period of 10 days, they've arrived. arrested 230 undocumented immigrants, many with criminal convictions, including for sexual assault of children, rape, and attempted murder. These heinous criminals have gone and attacked children at their most vulnerable state, and law enforcement has stepped up to the plate to remove them from the communities.
Starting point is 00:28:10 All right, Shaq, Brewster joins us live tonight from Broadview, Illinois, outside of Chicago. Shaq, we're also hearing tonight about which city border patrol operations could be headed to next. Yeah, that's right, Tom. DHS official telling NBC news that there will be a Border Patrol operation starting in the Charlotte area, though we don't know the specific timing of when this operation will take place, Tom. There is some new video of Border Patrol vehicles in the Charlotte area. Local leaders from the mayor to state representatives pushing back saying that they do not need federal, increased federal immigration enforcement in their city, Tom. So we hear all the stuff being your live shot, and I noticed it before in another broadcast. What exactly is going on there?
Starting point is 00:28:54 No, I'm glad you asked about that. So this is around 6 o'clock is when there is the curfew in which protesters. It's only a handful of them, but some of them have megaphones. They are supposed to leave. So we have local law enforcement here suggesting that folks leave, that they go home and clear out. Of course, the demonstrators who are protesting, President Trump stepped up immigration enforcement and the conditions in that facility, they say are unconstitutional. They're protesting that.
Starting point is 00:29:21 They're saying that they're not ready to go. They plan to be here at least as long as law enforcement allows, Tom. Okay, Shaq Brewster, thank you. We appreciate that. Here in New York, a deadly police shootout on the streets of the Upper East Side. Officers killing a man, they say fired first after the man allegedly threatened to shoot up a nearby hospital. Aaron McLaughlin with the surveillance video capturing the chaotic scene. Tonight, news surveillance video shows the shocking moment.
Starting point is 00:29:45 and killed a suspect on New York City's Ritzie Upper East Side. This situation could have turned out differently. In the video, you see the suspect identified by police's 20-year-old Elijah Brown, turn and point a handgun at approaching officers. The individual immediately discharges the firearm at the officers. With multiple civilians in close proximity, the officers return fire and strike the individual. Here you see the officers open fire. Bystanders scramble for cover.

Starting point is 00:37:23 From Roxanne to Fields of Gold. Now Sting is charting a new course. bringing his 2014 Broadway musical the last ship to the Met Opera. What is it that you love about musical theater? You know, my first professional job as a musician was in the pit of a theater underneath a musical, listening to the actors clattering around above me on the stage, and I just loved it. The show was inspired by his time growing up in the shipbuilding town of Wallsend, England. I'd watch thousands of men walk to work every morning on their ships,
Starting point is 00:38:05 and hear the welding and hear the hammering. And I'm thinking, I'm not sure I want to do that when I grow up. But at some point in your life, you have to go back because I realized I needed to pay a debt to tell the story of my community and what happened to it. Starting point is 00:40:06 Yeah, thanks for being here on a Friday. We are exciting. So let's get started on binge-worthy. Pluribus. A lot of people are talking about this one because it's from the creator of Breaking Bad. Exactly. It's on Apple TV. Here's a sneak peek. How do I reverse all this? Apple be played of the dark. Rest assured, Carol.
Starting point is 00:40:34 We will figure out what makes you different. Figure it out, why? So you can join us. Post-apocalyptic America, if that is your jam, this is your show. Rachel, take it away. So good. Okay, so the creator of Breaking Bad, Vince Gilligan, is behind this series, turning post-apocalyptic on its head.
Starting point is 00:40:53 So imagine everyone in the world's completely happy. You are one of 11. Happy, optimistic, foolishful. But you are one of 11 that is immune to it. Now they want to bring you over to their blissful side. Okay. Does it work? Is it weird?
Starting point is 00:41:09 Well, that was Carol right there. She's one of 11 that's immune to happiness. Ray Seahorn plays Carol. Of course, she was on Better Call Saul, so Vince brought her over to the series as well. The show's already been renewed for season two. The entirety of season one hasn't even aired. Wow. But that's because Vince has like that whole entire arc.
Starting point is 00:41:26 And he's got the touch. Yeah, he's got the touch. And there could be potentially a season three and four. But this is way different from Breaking Bad, right? For sure, but it's got, it's a dromedy. Okay, okay, no, no, I'm going to check it out. Next up, season two of Palm Royal, Palm Royal, I don't even know. Royale, of course.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Come on, come on. Don't act like you don't know. No, I actually watch this one, Apple TV, me and my wife, it is a lot of fun if you need something to sort of like detach and kind of like get away. I don't know what the word is. You know what I'm talking about. What is that word? It's like disconnect. No, it's another one.
Starting point is 00:41:59 It's like transporting. That's what it is. Yes. Let's take a look. In times of chaos, what we have Palm Beach do is protect Palm Beach, from without and from within. Palm Beach is a game, and Norma is playing it without me. We are all in danger. You, me, your baby, me.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Okay, this is Palm Beach, Circa, 1969, High Society. What else can you tell us, Rachel? Exactly. I mean, the show is led by the brilliant Kristen Lig. She's Maxine. She's trying not to lose herself, and, of course, this very affluent world that she's trying to find her footing. This season, not going to disappoint, still stacked with a star-setted cast. You've got Laura Dern.
Starting point is 00:42:41 You've got Alice and Jenny, Ricky Martin. Oh, my gosh. Great cast. Burnett. So if you enjoyed the over-the-top drama fashion and, of course, of course, all the wealth, then you are going to be satisfied with season two. New episodes are released Wednesdays on Apple TV. I forgot Ricky Martin. He's the pool boy, and he does such a great job.
Starting point is 00:42:57 And the opening number of his, so good. Yeah, he is very, very good. so talented. Both of those on Apple TV. We're going to switch to Netflix now because this is a big one. The Beast in Me, it is a thriller. It stars Claire Danes. You know she does thriller so well. Let's take a look. Spending all that time with the possible murderer doesn't
Starting point is 00:43:14 scare you. You're not how I pictured you. I had a rough few years. You got bloodlust. I can smell it. Hope you won't be appointed. By what? The truth. So this one, there's a lot to sort of understand. It's maybe a slow burn because there's a lot of different things going on at the same time, right? He thought it was a slow burn. I don't know. I haven't seen it. I'm asking. You've got to see it because I feel like it hooks you from the very first episode. Claire Dane's Matthew star in this. It is a mystery, drama thriller. The pacing of it is on point. Claire and Matthew's chemistry. It just jumps off of this. But there's a lot happening, right? Her son has died. So Claire is an author. She becomes reclusive because her son is killed in a sudden accident. Matthew moves in.
Starting point is 00:44:03 He's her new neighbor, and he's also the suspect in his former wife's disappearance. Are you following me? Okay, yeah, I got you. Okay, so Claire becomes, she is now on to Matthew, her neighbor. Got it. And the cat and mouse game is on. Okay. And there's something there with the neighbor?
Starting point is 00:44:18 There's definitely something weird, yeah? With that. Oh, yeah. Okay. Matthew reaches, I think you got me hooked now. Next up, Paramount Plus Landman. Some top story producers are all in on this one. They love it.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Billy Bob Thornton, one of the best. Let's take a look. I run the company. She owns it. But if you want to fight about it, law you're up. Big boy, let's go. Why don't you let me sell this thing? I want success. Get it for me. Grow them, grow them, grow them, grow them. This business. You have to know the rules of the game before you can bend them. And if you don't, you'll lose all of it. Billy Bob and did me more. That I did not know. Tell me more.
Starting point is 00:44:57 I mean, Billy Bob is bending and breaking the rules to keep that. oil fortune going West Texas there for season two of Landman. There's something a little inappropriate about Billy Bob's character, but I think that's part of what you feel, as is the drama and the grit of it all, you know. Is there Yellowstone vibes here too? Yes, there are because Taylor Sheridan, you know, the creator of Yellowstone, he's bringing us this series as well, as many others that he's got creating in the universe. Unfortunately, you know to peacock now, but yeah, can go out. Unfortunately, you know John Hamm this season, but we are going to see more of his wife played by to me more because she's going to be taking over the company. And the supporting cast in this
Starting point is 00:45:34 stellar. You've got Sam Elliott, Allie Larder, Jacob Loughlin and Michelle Randolph, fantastic actors. The new season starts Sunday on Parent and Plus. I'm going to start my own mom talk.
Starting point is 00:46:04 I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Oh, Lordy, part of me is scared to come back. If Jen comes at me, I just don't know how I'm going to react. If it's bad, I'm packing my bags and I'm going back to Arizona. Okay, never seen an episode, but I know it's very popular. Why do people love it? Because the mammas have so much drama, Tom. You've got this group of TikTok moms, Mom Talk.
Starting point is 00:46:26 Yeah. And they're all vying to be top dog in this group, right? They're beautiful women all out in Utah. They say they're friends and their besties, but I mean, it's really cutthroat and diehard. But I got to say, all of them outside of the series, have really creating a following for themselves. You've got two of the moms, Whitney and Jen. They were currently competing on dancing with the stars. Actually, Whitney, she's still in the running for the Miramwell trophy.
Starting point is 00:46:46 So this is a huge show. Yeah, and the Taylor, mama of three, she's set to be the next bachelorette. And it looks like a couple of them are expecting? Expecting. You've got some affairs. You've got babies and swingers. Oh, you have got it all. Okay, there's a lot there.
Starting point is 00:46:59 I expect you to watch it this weekend and get back to me Monday. And we're going to have a very tough turnout at Disney Plus and a very Jonas Christmas, which is PG and for the children out there, for all the kids, because this is a family show. Yeah. Let's watch this. It looks a lot of a lot of fun. Thank you, London. Merry Christmas.
Starting point is 00:47:16 I haven't seen my kids in like a month. I'm going to get home for Christmas. We love you. Are you boys sure you're okay with getting to the plane tomorrow without me? I can stay another night just to make sure you get home okay. It's one night, Brad. We'll be fine. So our superstar, binge-worthy producer, Aaron, is a Jonas Brother maniac.
Starting point is 00:47:36 She's in Joe Bros. Dan? Yeah. Like, I love you, Aaron. I'm here for the Joe Bros, too, you know? And it's wild to believe that the Jonas Brothers have never done a holiday movie before until now. They're getting their shot. They're shooting it. I think it looks adorable.
Starting point is 00:47:49 And look, the guys, they're cool. Yeah. They are really cool guys. But, you know, they're not scared to lean into that physical comedy. There's a lot of it in this movie as well. We also get to see the guy's family. So, for instance, we get to see Danielle, who's Kevin's wife. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:04 Priyanka Chopra, who's next wife, and all of their baby girls are in it, too. So it's a whole family affair. That's amazing. Whole family affair. I feel like they're really good to their fans, right? They are. They keep giving whatever they want. They do so many shows.
Starting point is 00:48:16 Yeah. And the catch, the motto for this one is let it bro. I mean, fine on. Let it bro. Let it bro this winter. Okay, next up, one of the hottest songs out there, one of the hottest new artist. Yeah. young Miko, okay? Young Miko.
Starting point is 00:48:30 What's the new song? Likey, likey. Let's listen. She's getting a huge following. She's playing with Billy Eilish. I mean, growing and growing from Puerto Rico. What else do we know? Well, and her first album came out in 2022.
Starting point is 00:49:06 So to see the rise, I mean, she sold out a stadium tour in Puerto Rico recently. Whoa, that's big. On tour with Billy Eilish. She does this type of music called trap music. So it is like a subgenre of hip-hop. So I think hip-hop and EDM music, so a blend between the two. You got it. She's got her sophomore album out right now.
Starting point is 00:49:24 It's called Do Not Disturb and Likey, Lucky, Like it. Likey, likey. Our next one is that we're taking a turn here a little bit in genres. Rosalia. Yes. And I'm going to ask our great producer in the booth there, Ali Busilaki.
Starting point is 00:49:36 Ali, what's the pronouncer on the song? Bergheim. This one's out there, but if you like music, you may really enjoy it. Let's take a listen. Okay, so Rachel, you're going to have to walk us through this one. I heard it was recorded in multiple languages. Like, there's various tracks in different languages.
Starting point is 00:50:06 There's obviously, it looks like, I don't know, a full orchestra here. I mean, it's actually beautifully shocked. What is going on here? Yeah, explain it to us. It's very metaphorical here. So you're seeing a woman that's experiencing heartbreak. Okay. And then she's transforming into this rebirth.
Starting point is 00:50:20 But really the point to hit on here with this new music video from Rosalia, it is generating so much buzz. and the first three days alone, it got 15 million views on YouTube.
