Starting point is 00:02:14 The show has begun. Mike Majewski. Ripping it up. He's the real estate agent who's ripping up the Mimico real estate scene. Learn more at realestatelove.ca. I'm Mike from torontomike.com. I ran out of song. And joining me this week for our 75th
Starting point is 00:02:34 and penultimate Pandemic Friday episode of Toronto Mike. Last real one. The last time you guys are in my backyard. Yeah, like I'm tweeting a photo to commemorate. No, it took Cam 75 weeks. Document. It's going to take me like at least an hour before I can start talking properly.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Well, we're going to get to that. I have to say your names first. Cam Gordon. He's waving. It's a fucking podcast. He's waving. There's people watching. There are people there. And Stu. Stu. What's wrong with you today?
Starting point is 00:03:07 No, I mean, this is crazy. I mean, talk about disrespect. I mean, this is the second to last episode of the show that you have canceled. Mike. Micah. Micah. I think Cam's in cahoots with it. He's okay with it.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Well, I'm talking to you now, not him. I'll get to him. I'm on board. We both canceled. I'm's okay with it Well I'm talking to you now not him I'm on board I'll get to him But then you booked at a time you knew I was going He's going to Montreal Well you could have made it like it a couple hours later I told you I was going to have no vacancy No problem it'll be great
Starting point is 00:03:39 And here I am with a half frozen mouth You know speaking to the FOSS FOSS is FOS. S is perhaps for the last time from your backyard. And I'm getting kind of emotional. And, uh, who else is it?
Starting point is 00:03:51 Linda. Linda's the original FOS. So stew stone, you had a, like Novocaine and they froze you up and did some dental work. Right. So you don't feel like you're still numb. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:02 It's hard to talk when you have a numb mouth. It is. It is. It's hard to talk when you have a numb mouth like that. It is. It's also hard not to interrupt on the last I see some people complaining that I interrupted. That was just Trudy and some other FOTMs. I hope you feel better and I hope as this episode progresses. Yeah, hopefully you'll just get better just in time for me to kick out some sweet jams.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Cam and I will do the heavy lifting. It's about time. Okay, there I sent the commemorative. You guys saw my dentist in the Faking a Murderer movie. I loved Faking a Murderer. Me too. And some FOTMs have seen it like four or five times. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Shout out to James, I think. Definitely. I've watched it too. Thank you. Did you tweet about it, Cam? No. Because I missed that. I think like once. A few months ago. Do you guys remember when we kicked out country music jams? Sure do. Okay, there's a song that Cam kicked out that I think about often. And I think it's why I'm going to play this particular jam for somebody who means a great deal to me.
Starting point is 00:04:59 So here, I just want to play this. It'll get going. See who's the first one to name that artist. Hello, darling. Oh, wow. Happy birthday. It's Conway Twitty. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Is this like a remix? No, this is like a special birthday song he wrote. Like, hello, darling, happy birthday. Oh, wow. Isn't this amazing? A special birthday song he wrote, like, Hello, darling, happy birthday. Oh, wow. Listen to this. Isn't it amazing? Yacht Rocky. It's pure schmaltz.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Hey, it's Conway fucking Twitty. Was he accused of being a Johnny Cash ripoff? Like, this is very... Yeah, I'm Johnny Cash. He's going to get to it, and then I'm going to explain why I'm playing it. Happy birthday, darling. Kind of like that. I have no presents, no fancy cake.
Starting point is 00:05:57 But I hope I'll make you happy with everything I take. So it's not only the penultimate episode of Pandemic Friday, which we'll get into how we're all feeling. Happy birthday, Matt. I get what you're doing there. This is the last episode before my wife, Monica, has her milestone birthday. So happy birthday, darling. Happy 30th birthday. Happy 30th birthday.
Starting point is 00:06:27 What are you guys doing to commemorate? Well, I'm going to have a small party on Saturday. I'm not sure what's in the books for Friday, but I'm going to open my Great Lakes and toast Monica here. On the mic. You go first. On the mic. You're first. On the mic. You're way below the mic.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Don't worry about your mouth. I can't do this. Why can't you go in front of it? Oh, my God. That was not bad. Why does this have no label? Is it like some special... This is like the off...
Starting point is 00:06:56 This is like a citrusy thing. So we don't know what you're drinking, right? This is like a mystery brew. What is it, do you think? I think I know what it is, but I want to know. It does taste like citrusy, light. Like hint of grapefruit. Would that make sense?
Starting point is 00:07:16 I think it would be the tango. What? Yeah, that would make sense. I think I had one of those ones. Okay, so anyway, cheers to you. Cheers to Monica. Happy birthday. Okay, so anyway, cheers to you. Cheers to Monica. Happy birthday. Hey, darling.
Starting point is 00:07:28 I'm going to start calling her darling and see how that goes. Well, if you want her to have a happy birthday, hopefully you can do a lot better than playing her a Conway Twitty song. Hello, darling. So shout out to Conway Twitty. Where do I begin? Any update on the Kingston front? I know it's hard for you to talk, but can you tell us there's no update?
Starting point is 00:07:45 I mean, I saw pictures of Monica. That's new. And you've seen the video of Al and Monica. It'll be, you'll be, or Monica and Al, I should say, and you would be replacing Al. I didn't see that video, but I saw like the real estate looking photo of Monica. It seemed like a billboard or something. But yeah, she looks like the type of person that would be a real great friend of mine. So looking forward to it. Have you reached out to Bob
Starting point is 00:08:07 Ouellette about this opening in Kingston? You know, I've decided to keep that private. I've decided that it's been not in my best interest to publicly talk about the negotiations or lack thereof. It's done me no good. It's only done me harm to mention it on this program. So I think it's probably
Starting point is 00:08:24 best that Bob and I just keep it close to the chest. Some art of the deal stuff here. Hey, Canada Kev, I know you're watching at live.torontomike.com. That's my dentist. My dentist is also in that mall. Shout out to you, Canada Kev. As the COVID virus continues to ravage North America, Mike has called an end to the pandemic. I've called an end to Pandemic Friday.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Well, initially we were supposed to do the show when the pandemic was over. But now we're doing it when Mike and Cam have had enough. Although I feel like very early we said it was when we all got vaccinated. That was the original plan. What about booster shots?
Starting point is 00:09:00 Well, they didn't say they'll do booster shots yet. So here, bottom line line is this is done so we have one week to go it's like the X that's like trying to convince like hey come on can we just
Starting point is 00:09:11 can I just stay for a couple more nights maybe save that for next Friday like let's set up TMLX 8 which is when we'll record the finale
Starting point is 00:09:19 one piece of news I got is that GLB has to shut down at 9 so what that means is I kind of envisioned us recording until 9 One piece of news I got is that GLB has to shut down at nine. So what that means is I kind of envisioned us recording till nine and then everybody gets their shit and leaves or whatever, but we're actually going to stop recording the pandemic Friday finale at
Starting point is 00:09:35 eight 30. So there's time to pack up and clear out so that they can shut down because that was a request of Great Lakes. Where's the after party? I was thinking, I actually think we should have like a we should all go to, assuming it's not storming rain or whatever, we should go to a public
Starting point is 00:09:49 park for the after party too. Like we should totally do that. Like we could go to the site of TMLX 7 and 6. I'm going to buy some beer or just come to your backyard. I guess so. You have space. I don't know if I'm allowed to invite everyone to the backyard. But yeah, so I'm thinking we start the recording.
Starting point is 00:10:07 This is my thoughts on this. At 6.15. I don't even know if I'm coming. This is my fear. My fear is you're going to be late. Or not come at all. Well, if you don't come at all, we're just going to stick someone else. Maybe we'll stick Elvis in the third seat and we'll just finish this up.
Starting point is 00:10:23 I know you've always dreamed of that. So you can do that. That is an option. Let's see. We should have something that points out after TMLX8, like when we finish Pandemic Fridays, we should have a parade where we go from Great Lakes Brewery to the public park. It should be a parade.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Isn't there like a jackass? There's like a shopping mall behind there, like a strip plaza or something? I might imagine. Well, Costco's down the street uh there's are they licensed do we know there's the big parking oh there's there's actually a harvey i would there is a harvey's on queensway okay let's go there first all the what is this queensway park yeah it is it's a park where we actually uh is that what you're talking about no that's a park across the street. So that's the north side of Queensway. And it's got a ball diamond and lots of green space.
Starting point is 00:11:08 We could totally go there. Well, I mean, why don't we work on trying to get people to come at least to the first portion? Are you going to be there? Because if you're not going to be there, no one's coming to this thing. You have to show up.
Starting point is 00:11:18 I don't know. Aren't you contractually obligated to parade to Ikea? I saw an offer, but not a contract. Oh, VPSA. Is that for me or for Bob? That's for everybody.
Starting point is 00:11:29 VPSA says Adamson's Barbecue has a parking lot and they've had successful gatherings there in the past. That's well done. Good job, VPSA. You better be there. And Ian Service says everybody go to my house. I'm getting a little bit sad here, guys. Why are you sad?
Starting point is 00:11:44 Because this is the very last time we'll all get together in this backyard. Yeah, a little bit sad here, guys. Why are you sad? Because this is the very last time we'll all get together in this backyard? Yeah, a little bit of that. A little bit of abandonment issues that stem from my childhood that are bleeding into this. It was a doc. But just when you fall in love with a gang of guys
Starting point is 00:11:58 and they just want to fucking open the van door and just kick me out of the van. Oh, stop it. See, that's how you're reacting. We've had a good run. My move is to. Is this more of like a quit while you're ahead type of thing? My move is to.
Starting point is 00:12:12 Because it feels like that's not what's happening here. To pull the trigger on the abandonment before you can be abandoned. Right. It's a preemptive strike. That's a deep psychological problem that you have. So basically, I got to kill this thing because it's becoming too important and too lovely. And eventually everything dies. Also, I feel like it was Dr. Zeus.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Dr. Zeus said, what's the slogan? Don't be sad, it's over, be glad it happened. Something like that. Yeah, I think that applies here. That checks out. We've had a good run, and it's, you know. I just feel like the listeners don't agree with either of you.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Well, they can voice their, look, they can come to TMLX8. I'm going to have a fourth mic open where anyone who wants to can come to that fourth mic and share a statement or thought about Pandemic Fridays or Toronto Mike.
Starting point is 00:12:55 You know, even once it's done, we're all connected on LinkedIn, you know. I thought they have a new office, by the way. I saw FOTM Elvis. It seemed like it was by the dome. I actually chatted with Elvis today because he's threatening to come to TMLX8,
Starting point is 00:13:08 and it sounds like I'm going to need him. If Stu doesn't show up, I can pop him in, and no one will be the wiser. Good pitch hitter. Wow, you guys are real assholes today. Peter Gross, big disclosure today. He's going to make an appearance, too? Peter Gross is definitely going to be there because Mike Epple's going. Mike Epple?
Starting point is 00:13:24 Legend? Hebsey's going to be there because Mike Apple is going. Hebsey is going to be there. Hebsey wants to talk to Stu about a movie idea he's got. Five, seven films. Love it. Production enterprise there. By the way, Hebsey's books are very interesting. I don't think he gets enough credit for those.
Starting point is 00:13:38 I don't get enough credit for giving Mike credit for when I went on Taddy's show. Okay, okay. I have a note here. I have a note here. I don't hear Cam plugging TMLX8 on shows. I noticed that it was met with crickets, but I did see you try to jam it in early. I did what I could do right off the bat.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Right when people are listening the most. Didn't you see the tweet, the DM I sent about thanks to Stu for shouting out TMLX8? So you're on Taddy. Perry Lefkoe and Jim Taddy have a show. Yes Guy. Yes Guy. And it's one of those shows where they have,
Starting point is 00:14:10 I guess they get the time slot for free from 10.50 and then they have to go get advertisers. Well, you're just airing dirty laundry here. I don't know anything about that. That's well known. And you were a guest. And I listened to every second of that appearance and you opened it by saying to Perry Lefkoe,
Starting point is 00:14:23 who said he's going to be at TMLX eight. No, he's not anymore. Oh, but it's not true. Yeah, it's true. And Facebook,
Starting point is 00:14:29 he said he got to change his face. He's not coming. He's one of those 14 guys. Now it's 13. Oh, wow. The guy won't have a minion after all. Not to change the subject.
Starting point is 00:14:39 This is very important, but the guy who just got in trouble with sports net, like the veteran, Joey Vendetta, was he a similar deal with his show do you know like i don't know the airtime and and would sell it and sort of i had i got a chat with an insider who thinks he actually probably took home 300 bucks a weekend for that gig like he got paid a few bucks yeah because i feel like that model where you know buy
Starting point is 00:15:00 the airtime or get it for free and collect all the money. Like, I don't think that's that unusual. Well, Humble and Fred had it forever on Funny 820. Okay. Wow, that chat room has really turned heel on me this week. Oh, let me go. I haven't been in there yet. I usually get a lot of love, but today people are just following your lead, Mike, and sort of just being a prick to me.
Starting point is 00:15:19 And I'm seeing people's true colors pop up here. And, you know, listen. Shout out to Cindy. 75 weeks of fucking fake bullshit and it's all coming out now. Wow. I gotta say this. Anything Stu says
Starting point is 00:15:29 in this penultimate episode, he's not responsible. This is a work. He's got drugs in his system. This is a work. He's on the Novocaine. Speaking of which, didn't you say you had
Starting point is 00:15:36 some pain medication for me? Where's that? My Percocet's from my broken wrist. Yeah, where's that? Shout out to Dr. Lopez at St. Joe's. Are you wearing the Pogues shirt
Starting point is 00:15:44 because last week we did Greatest Misses and I kicked out the Pogues. Yes, yes, I am. Great Dublin band. Yeah, one of the best Irish bands of all time. Today, by the way, is my wife. We were walking to pick up the kids at camp and she said, what's the topic tonight? And I said, oh, it's Beast of the Reest. And she said, what's that?
Starting point is 00:16:03 And I said, that's why it's called Beast of the Reest. So everyone will say, what's that? Beast of the Reest. And she said, what's that? And I said, that's why it's called Beast of the Reest. So everyone will say, what's that? Beast of the Reest. It's a total mindfuck, man. It's best of the rest. It's the best, our favorite or top jams that have not yet been kicked out on a pandemic Friday. So this is going to be awesome.
Starting point is 00:16:17 It's also a small hat tip. Hey, Steve M says, Stu carries the show. Steve is a smart guy. Steve M. I don't know, but I bet you he won't have the balls to show up at TMLX8. Why wouldn't he? Come and get a selfie.
Starting point is 00:16:29 You're the one with no balls, Mike. We've covered that. He has a point. And that guy, by the way, big love to you, Stu. See, you begged for some love. I didn't beg for anything. Beck said that.
Starting point is 00:16:38 I didn't beg for anything. Beck, of course, has a song called Novocaine, so it's perfect. Beck said that. Oh, Moose Grumpy says, love you, Stu. I love Moose. YYZ says, we love you, Stu. Yeah, of course, YYZ, Beck, of course, has a song called Novocaine, so it's perfect. Beck said that. Oh, Moose Grumpy says, love you, Stu. I love Moose.
Starting point is 00:16:46 YYZ says, we love you, Stu. Yeah, of course, YYZ. Wow. Canada Cam says, celebrate this Demi down there. Yeah, see, that's fine. Okay, so. Mike is the type of person that, like, smiles and is cheerful at a funeral. Shout out to Ridley Funeral Home.
Starting point is 00:17:02 And I think Brad's going to be there. Brad's going to be there next time. Is Brad coming? Yep, Brad Jones is coming from Ridley Funeral Home. Oh, that's's going to be there. Brad's going to be there next time. Is Brad coming? Yep, Brad Jones is coming from Ridley Funeral Home. Oh, that's so exciting. We'll just take a pic if I show up. Yeah, he wants to meet Stu and Cam. I got to say, I'm about to pick up a thread
Starting point is 00:17:15 that was just sort of left lying there about abandonment issues with Stu because I have to ask him about something I witnessed this week. But first, I just want to shout out and give love to every surprise Zoom guest we had in the history of the pandemic. And I actually wrote them down
Starting point is 00:17:30 so I don't screw it up. Get my beer. Okay. So remember, Bob Ouellette was not a surprise Zoom guest. He came in at the beginning to talk about Shock G and so he doesn't make this list, but shout out to Bob anyway. It's very like best of Toronto Mike
Starting point is 00:17:45 type of thing, right? He's your future boss. Cam, you think Bob should be included? I think so, yeah. Except he wasn't a surprise Zoom guest. That's the problem.
Starting point is 00:17:52 So here are the people who showed up. Well, he was a surprise to us. We didn't know that. Yes, but you knew before we pressed record so that's what I'm saying here. So here are the people.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Lauren Honickman was the first. Lawyer. Mark Hebbshire. Hebbsy. Dana Levinson. Yes. Delicious Danaickman was the first. Lawyer. Mark Hebbshire. Hebbsy. Hebbsy. Dana Levinson. Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Delicious Dana. On the DL. Stu Jeffries. The other Stu. Speaking of the country music episode. Jason Agnew. That was a good one.
Starting point is 00:18:15 The wrestling one. Squared circle. Wow. Humble Howard. That was one of my faves. Legend. Parentheses jam. Pete Fowler.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Of course. Yeah, Pete. Yeah. That was cool too. The engine. The engine of the CFL. That's good. Cam wasn. Yeah, Pete. The engine of CFL. Cam wasn't on that one. That was a good episode.
Starting point is 00:18:29 That was the best. Biff Naked. Yes, that was a delight. Women Who Rock. I biff a cuss. Jeff Woods. I wasn't on that one. Handsome Devil. Oh, I was on that one. Yeah, he was good. That was the one about LGBTQ+. Plus.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Only fans backslash Jeff Woods. Haw, he was good. That was the one about LGBTQ+. Plus. Only fans backslash Jeff Williams. He was cool. Hawksley Workman. Oh, the Hawk. The Hawkman. He was great. I think he did a show this weekend. I think so.
Starting point is 00:18:53 I did enjoy speaking with the Hawk. Yeah. Rod Black. That was amazing. Three hours. And he did impressions. Yeah. Oh, I missed one.
Starting point is 00:19:01 I don't see it here. I didn't write it down, but I know for a fact Mike Richards. Mike Richards. He did impressions too. Farley Flex. Yeah. Oh, I missed one. I don't see it here. I didn't write it down, but I know for a fact, Mike Richards. Yeah, Mike Richards. He was fantastic. He did impressions too. Farley Flex. Yeah. Farley.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Yeah. Jay Ferguson. I wasn't on that one, but I was jealous. And a quick update, and I don't even know how to take this. I'm trying not to take it personally, but for the second time, Garvia Bailey forgot to zoom in. So it's only happened with one surprise, but it happened with her twice. If you forget that twice, it's subconscious. There's something there.
Starting point is 00:19:36 You don't forget that twice. At least on a subconscious level. She doesn't like you. That's what it comes down to. I feel like you're missing somebody. I just know, I think that's all I wrote down. You can think of somebody on there. Mark Teo.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Or is he sort of in the technically not? We all said, let's get Teo on. We didn't really. So who's in the other category? So we've got Bingo Bob. Bingo Bob, Mark Teo. Mark Teo. Sammy Cohen. Okay, Sammy Cohen. Brother Bill. Brother Mark Teo. Mark Teo. Sammy Cohn.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Okay, Sammy Cohn. Brother Bill. Brother Bill for sure. He's been amazing. Ben Rayner. Ben Rayner. That might be it. And there was a surprise zoom in from Monica.
Starting point is 00:20:15 I was going to say Monica. That was the Dana. MF does not need an appearance. Leafle almost. Every time I ask her to come on mic, I get this thing. No chance, buddies. She's not doing it. So I tried my best. Here's what I want to talk to Stu about before we get to come on mic. I get this thing. No chance, buddies. Yeah, she's shy. She's not doing it. So I tried my best.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Here's what I want to talk to Stu about before we get to the jams. You mentioned, you know, abandonment issues, and we've seen the great documentary Jack of All Trades, and you received something. You did an unboxing. Yeah. Can you tell us, because I watched this video, and I couldn't believe what you received. It was insane.
Starting point is 00:20:46 So tell us about this. Yeah. So somebody was in a thrift shop and spotted a shirt that had like a Sluggers, was the name of my dad's store. And it was like a Sluggers racing team
Starting point is 00:21:02 shirt that he had found. He claimed that he had found at a thrift shop. Like cycling racing? No, like a race car team. Oh, race car. So it was like a racing team. It wasn't bicycling like the type that Liva Famca and Juan Solo do. It's like race cars, like stuff that Ian Service does.
Starting point is 00:21:19 So he had a racing team on like the mini indie circuit or whatever in 1990. Wow. And, you know, it was long forgotten anyway. So this guy's like, hey, I found something that I think you're going to want to see. And what's your address? And I'm like, okay, sure. Gave him an address. Sorry, who was this?
Starting point is 00:21:41 It's a guy on Instagram who has an Instagram where he'll go to thrift shops for you. It's called like, I can pull it up because I don't want to fuck this up. But it's local. He's located in Toronto. So I do suggest that people, much like they support the other great folks like Ridley Funeral Homes and the guy that's ripping up the fucking real estate. So he's like a connector. Things I buy for you, then buy.
Starting point is 00:22:08 That's the name of his company, but Things I Buy for You is the name of his Instagram. There's the shirt right there. He gets jerseys and concert stuff. He finds cool shit. Brett Hall jerseys or whatever. You told this gentleman that you're
Starting point is 00:22:24 looking for sluggers stuff? I didn't tell him anything. He saw the movie and was like, hey, I think this might be- Oh, I thought you hired him to find sluggers stuff. No, no. I didn't hire him to do anything. Wow. He hit me up like, hey, I think I found something you might want.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Wow. So I get this package and I open it up and sure enough, there it is. This shirt that could have very well been my father's shirt. It was his size. And I do remember my dad having that shirt. And I don't remember them making a lot of those shirts to like give to a lot of people. I bet you that was your dad.
Starting point is 00:22:50 It could have been. Like that. That's like a legit needle in the haystack. It's genuinely incredible. Last summer, sadly, your father, Jack passes away.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Yeah. Somebody at that point might've donated all the stuff in his closet. Yeah, you never know. And then that's how it got to the thrift shop. And then it ended up with you. And that's amazing. It's incredible. And I'm so happy to have it.
Starting point is 00:23:13 And I will definitely cherish it. Where was the thrift shop? It was somewhere in Toronto. I was about to say thrift shop. Somewhere in Toronto. Okay. Or Toronto. Toronto.
Starting point is 00:23:24 But yeah, it was really awesome to get that back. And you know, those types of things, they don't really happen all that often, so you really have to sort of cherish those types of special things that happen to you. It's amazing it didn't happen at all. And sort of recognize what they are. You know, I'm old enough to look at a situation and not take
Starting point is 00:23:39 it for granted and know how special it was that I was reconnected with that shirt. Well, that's a one-of-a-kind item for sure. Just to get your hands on that is awesome. I would love to know how many were made. That's what I'm saying, like two. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:23:53 It's like the guy that drove the car and him. The guy who drove the car was not an extra large. That's amazing. As soon as I saw the tag, it hit me like this actually could have been his shirt. You should wear it next week. I was going to say wear it. If you show up to TMLSB wearing that shirt.
Starting point is 00:24:10 I'm not sure if I'm going to wear anything. I might just show up with nothing on and try to get this thing shut down. I was going to say like episode 71. Yeah, exactly. Wow. That was cool. It was really cool and the guy's name is Rob and it turns out that I actually know Rob from childhood. The guy that runs that page.
Starting point is 00:24:25 But I didn't know it was him when he sent me the thing. Right? So this is a hobby he does this? It's like a side thing that he does. Wow. But it's obviously he does well enough that he's finding a lot of cool shit. That's awesome. So definitely check out his page and tell him Stu sent you.
Starting point is 00:24:38 And use the code Toronto Mike for 10% off the first order. Sponsor the finale of Pandemic Friday. I don't really like the segue into this story where you're like, speaking of abandonment, let's talk about when you got the shirt. You fired the first shot. Well, I'm allowed to.
Starting point is 00:24:56 It was a little bumpy. Did you enjoy your appearance on Taddy and Lefkoe's show? I thought that it was a good time. You know, it was nice to talk to Jim. You know, obviously I'm a Hebsey guy through and through. So, you know, to speak to the other half of the, you know, the dynamic duo, he was very nice. He was very friendly.
Starting point is 00:25:19 But I could also see just in my limited interaction with him, as my mouth is starting to hurt, I could see in the limited interaction with him as my mouth is starting to hurt i could see in the limited interaction with him that like how him and hebsey may have been oil and water because their personalities are completely different right and i could probably guess without knowing and this is just me speculating so don't get upset at me hebsey but hebsey was probably more of the wild card who was partying and getting the music in and being funny. And Jim was probably more like eating a vanilla ice cream with nothing on it. And both of them, there's a purpose to have both of those guys on the show.
Starting point is 00:25:57 So as a team, they were fantastic. Similar dynamic. If I could somehow bring them together for some sort of special thing, that would be great. Well, that would be a miracle. I've been trying to do that for years. Well, maybe it takes someone like me to do that. Why didn't you tell Taddy to come to TMLX8 and then we could reunite him with...
Starting point is 00:26:10 Yeah, I don't want to do it there because that night's about us. Right. I wouldn't want to share the spotlight with a sports line reunion. But no, Taddy was a very nice guy. He was very welcoming, very complimentary. I was very complimentary of him.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Yes, guy. And of course, Perry is Perry. And we all love Perry. Mike, am I imagining, did Hebsey and Taddy play golf together? Yeah, there was a golf game. Semi-recently. There was a photo, but that was beyond that. I mean, really.
Starting point is 00:26:35 That was it, actually. That's what's going to happen to us, guys, because that's what happens. When you end a good show like they did, you end up going like 20 years without talking. Ships in the night. Ships in the night. Exactly. Except, you know, they replaced Hebsey is what they did. Well, he probably –
Starting point is 00:26:51 And then Taddy went on. He probably wasn't behaved. So, Pandemic Friday in two weeks, we'll have different – Both did interesting things. Safe to say that Hebsey is probably not, you know, the same guy that he was back then. Maybe sports-wise and intellect-wise, but, like, intellect-wise, but his social scene has probably calmed down a lot. Well, he'll jump on a fourth mic next week. I do love Beep some Hebsey.
Starting point is 00:27:12 I like the fact that you were on a show with Taddy in the same week that I was on a show with Mark Hebsey. Yeah, that's really cool. Isn't that amazing? Childhood us would have been high-fiving. I know. By the way, Mike, any other, not blowback, but reaction or content come out of the Buck Martinez revolution?
Starting point is 00:27:28 I had to block a lot of people on Twitter. Hebsy's the kind of guy you want to go for a beer and hang out with. And Taddy's the kind of guy you want to probably cheat off of in science class. Both serve a purpose. And both great guys. Both have value. Yeah, the Buck thing seems to have quieted down now. Which thing?
Starting point is 00:27:45 What are you talking about? The Buck of Beer? Well, Hebsey revealed on Hebsey on Sports that Buck Martinez is not vaccinated. Right, right, right, right. And that's why he's not coming to the Dome to call Blue Jay games. He's doing it from his home in Florida. And, you know, Hebsey has a good source on this, and I trust Hebsey. But I shone a light on that disclosure because, you know, I don't have any source on this, but I trust Hebsey has a good source on this and I trust Hebsey, but I, I, I show a shine, a light on that, uh,
Starting point is 00:28:05 disclosure because, you know, I don't have any source on this, but I trust Hebsey source. Anyway, I got a lot of blowback originally, but it's been quiet. And you saw it today.
Starting point is 00:28:14 They announced Scotiabank arena. Anybody, basically anybody stepping foot in there, you need to be vaccinated. I heard BMO, but I didn't hear Scotiabank. I think they'd said Scotiabank arena. It's going to be everywhere.
Starting point is 00:28:23 It's like national law type shit. It's like get vaccinated or fuck off. That's what they're going to say. Well, it's a good thing I got double vaxxed. That's for sure. I wanted to just point out that earlier today, Peter Gross was doing push-ups right there. Wow.
Starting point is 00:28:38 Yeah. I was wondering why the wood looked a little sunken. And he's really good at it. I wonder if he knows my aunt. He'll be on the fourth life next week. Because Perry Lefkoe knew my aunt. You know the story there. This is kind of funny. Sandy?
Starting point is 00:28:49 Yeah. Really? So Perry Lefkoe calls me, and he's like, hey, you made a movie, Jack of All Trades? I said, yeah. He says, I know a woman in that movie. I said, who? He says, your aunt. I said, what do you mean?
Starting point is 00:29:03 He said, you know, I cover racing for all these years. And Aunt Sandy is a fucking legend of the racetrack. She's been there. Peter Gross will know her. And he's like, yeah, she used to be the one yelling at the thing. 100%. Sorry, Woodbine Racetrack. Racetrack, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Gross might have gone out with her. Like, we're going to get some scoop. Maybe. Possibly second base. Who knows? Let's find out. Spill the tea on Aunt Sandy. But yeah, I wonder if Gross knows her because
Starting point is 00:29:25 Lefkoe for sure knew her and then I ended up giving a phone number and he called my uncle and they started connecting and it was a whole Auntie Sandy fest. Gross lives at the track. We're going to totally talk about this. And that's what he's got the podcast down the stretch. Yeah, yeah. Hey, here's a big revelation I just want to share from the Peter Gross
Starting point is 00:29:41 episode. There was lots of great nuggets he dropped but one is that when he got fired from CFNY he was only there a couple of months. He was fired. Controversial editorials. Okay. His severance check from CFNY was delivered by a courier service
Starting point is 00:29:58 and the human being who was working for the courier service and handed the check to Peter Gross was Billy V Van. Wow. In full Igor makeup. Esmeralda. Mike, we were talking about this a bit off mic. That's wild, but not completely unexpected with Canadian entertainment, sadly.
Starting point is 00:30:19 No, but just think about it. Our great TV star, Billy Van. And, you know, we hear stories about Uncle Bobby driving a school bus. I mean, these are, you know, Pat Mastroianni delivering pizza. Take your pick. With his Juno in hand. Not Juno. What do they call it?
Starting point is 00:30:34 Gemini. Gemini. Aunt Sandy, by the way, 95 years old. Wow, today? On August the 5th or 6th. Okay. Honestly, I have a song loaded up for that. I just want to play a song for Aunt Sandy.
Starting point is 00:30:45 We already heard it. Did we play it already? Can we tweet the Conway Twitty? Oh, shit. Hello, darling. This is for Sandy. Turn it up, Auntie. It's her style.
Starting point is 00:30:53 She's listening. Hello, darling. Give me a small town. Happy birthday. My hometown. You're right. It's got a bit of Bruce in there. My hometown.
Starting point is 00:31:04 I miss all of them not to give you the present this year. What is that song called? Is it just called My Hometown? Yeah. I think. You're right. It's got a bit of Bruce in there. My hometown. I'm not going to give you the present this year. What is that song called? Is it just called My Hometown? I think it's about time. That's my Bruce. I like 80s Bruce. When all the old sportscasters come over, they're like 70s Bruce. I'm like, I like 80s Bruce. Brilliant disguise. Absolutely. Shout out to
Starting point is 00:31:20 80s Bruce. Okay. So we're going to get into this. There's an election coming. Oh yeah. Did you want to chat briefly about this? I'm really interested in all the shit posts that are going to be bouncing around Twitter. Yeah, like I said, we've got a few questions today about some of the
Starting point is 00:31:36 content Aaron O'Toole's been putting out there and had to be retracted. Yeah, they had to take it down because they got a cease and desist from the copyright holder. Oh, that's funny. Here's a little inside baseball. There's been a few articles saying a Twitter Canada,
Starting point is 00:31:50 or a represent from Twitter Canada confirmed. Yes, is that you? Anyway, that's a little... Pandemic fries exclusive. I would say that... That's all we're getting? I didn't even find that... Not that it wasn't controversial or whatever, but it just wasn't... Like, I didn't laugh either. No not that it wasn't controversial or whatever,
Starting point is 00:32:06 but it just wasn't, like, I didn't laugh either. No, no, I think the controversy was that it was ridiculous and amateur and silly. It just didn't seem very presidential or prime ministerial. And somebody pointed out, like, when you talk to, like, a millennial about Willy Wonka, they think of Johnny Depp. They don't even know what Willy Wonka is. No, they know Johnny Depp, I think. I think that was a big remake.
Starting point is 00:32:27 Can I make two comments on that? One, Jesse Brown, plus some guy who I think writes for the National Observer, suggested, not that that was intentionally bad, but just get people talking about him, good, bad, or otherwise. So it was kind of like a Trojan horse type thing. So that was interesting. Actually, no,
Starting point is 00:32:45 as the National Observer, and this is a question, a genuine question for Stu Stone, guy from National Observer suggesting that video was a parody, so it was a fair use of a copyrighted clip. Yeah, I can see that. Would you say that that might hold up, potentially?
Starting point is 00:33:01 For sure, 100%. It should. But also, they could also use that guy as the excuse why it's taken down so they don't look silly in front of their base. Right. Because they could get an Australian firm doing their shitposts. Yeah, like some pals of Boris Johnson. I'll say this. Without knowing enough about all of the candidates and whatnot, and knowing that there's political
Starting point is 00:33:20 science is a game that is a chess game for power. I do understand why people would call an election now is what I get all that. But I'm thinking like, you know, in a country right now where everybody's 80% vaccinated, we're doing pretty good. The Serb stuff worked out pretty well. You know,
Starting point is 00:33:39 things are pretty good. I would say that it's like, uh, I understand why they'd want to call-in election, because things are looking good for them right now, right? To me, it's a no-brainer for the Liberal Party to just jump and grab that majority now, and then they get their mandate. It's like, hey, we just gave everybody
Starting point is 00:33:53 $15,000, $17,000 last year, remember? Let's do this. They're smart for doing it. Yeah, and they have the right to do it. That's the whole idea. Minority government, whatever. Not to say I'm voting one way or the other. I'm just saying I understand why. And I can see that the climate is ripe for them to do something like this.
Starting point is 00:34:10 It makes sense. We all know why they're doing it now. And we'll see if it pays off. We'll see if the gamble pays off. There was actually a federal party leader who was hanging out in Stouin, Iowa, our hometown. Speak of the boss of Thornhill this weekend. None other than Maxime Bernier was there. Wow. What's the name of his party again?
Starting point is 00:34:28 PCC? People's Party of Canada. PPC. Yeah, him and a local candidate were in some park they didn't recognize. Was that Rob Ford's saying vaccines or don't do it and masking don't do it and all their mandates. Mad Max. Shout out to Mad
Starting point is 00:34:43 Max. Okay, Are we ready to kick out the... Is there a surprise guest? I did not book any. It's Beast of the Reast. I'll kick out Beast of the Reast. This is really just us guys, penultimate episode, setting up the finale and kicking out our favorite jams that haven't been played yet.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Just a casual backyard hang. Yeah, it's going to be fun. And it's earlier than normal. So we might even be done before it gets pitch pitch black here are you ready for your first jam cam yeah can i give a bit of intro to these four songs yeah with these i mean they're all from the same era i did find a sweet spot of songs or 80s or 90s and i always like when i pick songs where it's like oh my god i'm very familiar with this song but i haven't heard it in a million years stew had a big ephemeral reaction to a dan seals bop amongst other things i feel like all four of these songs might fit that
Starting point is 00:35:39 category and the four songs i think are great songs and i think will be really fun to rip off of so beyond the beast of the Reefs thematic, that was kind of my inspiration for why I chose these songs. So you did it that way. I literally chose like four of my favorite songs of all time that we haven't yet played on Pandemic Fridays. And I did connective Mind Blow jams. Oh.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Love it. Love it. And I do have Mind Blows for all of my jams tonight because I figured this is the last time we're going to do this. Because next week's episode is going to be very different. I just have one mind blow. But we are going to kick out a few jams next week. A few farewell jams. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:11 But I'm going to be passionate about getting everybody on the fourth mic who wants to get There's like at least one or two songs that I know that I want to spin next week. DM them to me, brother. You ready for your first jam cam? Yeah. Let's hear it. Soul. Soul. first jam cam? Yeah, let's hear it. Starting off hot. The time will come one day Why do people choose to live their lives
Starting point is 00:36:53 This way Keep on moving, don't stop, no Keep on moving, don't stop, no Keep on moving I remember talking to you guys about that first batch of CDs I ever bought And I told you Nina Cherry was one of the CDs that I bought Soul to Soul, also part of that original purchase And I feel like she was in the crew with that whole coming up Britain in the late 90s Soul to Soul, keep on moving.
Starting point is 00:37:27 There's no rhyme or reason to any of these songs, Mike. Recently, we were talking about Soul to Soul, specifically with the band Haywire and their song Buzz and how when Soul to Soul came out, it really set off a lot of songs that sounded like this song in the follow-up single to this, Back to Life. Back to Reality. Yeah, where you had Peter Gabriel digging in the dirt, Duran Duran, Come Undone.
Starting point is 00:37:52 What would you describe that sound? Even some of the Madonna stuff. Like that 90s early pop. Late 80s, early 90s pop. Like there's a techno bass to it. Yeah, like a lot of drum and bass. Like that Tina Turner and Lionel Richie song yes yes exactly it's like a drum sampled like drums not not live drums like it's like a hip-hop sort of production exactly exactly
Starting point is 00:38:14 um this is from march 1989 um this song went to i was a bit surprised this wasn't a bigger hit in canada this only went to number 11. Sorry, number 11 in the US, 15 in Canada, number 5 in the UK. Again, it's follow-up, Back to Life, was a bigger hit, number 4 in the US, 11 in Canada. Number 1 in the UK, this is a band I'm surprised, because I think this holds up very nicely.
Starting point is 00:38:43 I think this band has a pretty universally high approval rating, can be like a multi-format hit. I'm surprised this band didn't have more of a career. Somebody pointed out, I think I band has a pretty universally high approval rating, can be like a multi-format hit. I'm surprised this band didn't have more of a career. Somebody pointed out, I think I said last time you were playing this style of music, I said it reminded me of Enigma, and Steve agrees. And then YYZ here is like Justify My Love. Well, there's like 10 or 15 drum breaks that are in almost every song from this era, and this is no exception. We kicked out Haywire with Ben
Starting point is 00:39:08 Rayner, right? That's right, yeah. So Andrew Ward must have forgot that we did kick out Haywire. Why, is she singing? I think it's a he-him but it said, Haywire, a popular act from PEI. Maybe they fell off
Starting point is 00:39:23 the Beast of the East list. No, they were on there. And I would say Haywire getting in. Check the liner notes, Andrew. Check the liner notes. I was going to say Haywire getting into the sound is maybe the jump the shark moment for this style of song. Anyway, a couple of fun facts about Soul to Soul.
Starting point is 00:39:42 They were out of the Brixton area of London. Squeak, squeak. They used to run a club night called The Fridge that is notable. It was a club night in 1988. It's notable because it hosted the first ever UK appearance by NWA. Wow. Now, this was not a concert. This was just a personal appearance.
Starting point is 00:40:02 I'm curious what that meant. And there's some connection between soul to soul and massive attack namely uh nelly hooper uh who's a member of soul to soul and later went to produce for massive attack also became a producer for everyone from bjork gwen stefani you two and madonna so some big names coming out soul to soul again this band i always kind of wondered why they didn't have a bigger career. You're right. I love this song, and that album was great. This song was great, but the song after was really the big jam.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Did they have a third single or just the two? They had a second album with the lead singer. It was called Get a Life. How does it go? I think that was a popular song. How does it go? Yeah. I don't know if I can sing it.
Starting point is 00:40:40 I love when you sing it. Just try. While you guys sing Get a Life. They fell off. They fell off. They fell off. Canada Kev says, I believe my fellow student at Ryerson, Arlene Bishop, was involved with a guy from Haywire. Arlene Bishop got me to go to her show at the Cabana Room.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Four of us were in the audience opening for her. You guys ready for this? Molly Johnson. Bare Naked Ladies. Whoa. That's big. And now you know the rest of the story. That's a good story.
Starting point is 00:41:10 I like that. It's a mind blow from Canada Kev. Who's Arlene Bishop again? His classmate. Not to be confused with Arlene Biden. Arlene Herskew. Is there an Arlene Herskew? Thorne Lee.
Starting point is 00:41:20 Thorne Lee, yeah. Okay, I remember. Oh, I had a... Good looking lady. Do you guys know Corey Herskew? Yeah, that's her brother. You ready for this? That's her brother. I remember. Oh, I had a... Good looking lady. Do you guys know Corey Herskoo? Yeah, that's her brother. You ready for this? That's her brother.
Starting point is 00:41:28 I'm at a GM event. I'm at a GM event. Yeah. With Elvis, by the way. And I think we're in Ottawa and they wanted to drive these tracks. Something like that. Anyway, I'm at this event
Starting point is 00:41:37 and I'm at the table and I'm talking to Toronto Mike and we're talking about different things. Corey's at the table with me. And I said, oh, I picked up Toronto Mommy. I have this idea for this mommy blog, Toronto Mommy.
Starting point is 00:41:48 And then I said, I think I'll get Toronto Daddy and do something for the dads. And he takes out his smartphone and buys torontodaddy.com and says, sorry, now I own it. Is that to me, that to me is the biggest dick move.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Like right there at the table, bought it so I couldn't fulfill the plan I just disclosed do you know him at all? I just know he's a dick that's all I know I can't say he's a dick he's never done anything wrong to me your buddy just got fucked by the guy
Starting point is 00:42:17 how do you feel about that? you're talking about my buddy Cory Cory Snyder this is why Pandemic Friday is ending Stu never has my back. Never has my back. Just your front. Never has my back.
Starting point is 00:42:29 Sorry, so you're going to have a Toronto Daddy blog. Yeah, I had... That sounds like a good idea. I was going to say, 10 years ago. I think he did you a favor. This is a long time ago, right? Toronto Daddy. This is TorontoDaddy.org.
Starting point is 00:42:43 That sounds like a sugar daddy service. This is TorontoDaddy.org. That sounds like a sugar daddy service. This is about 12 years old now. A long time ago. A different time. Some other guy. Problematic.
Starting point is 00:42:52 Apparently it's available right now. So VP of Sales is going to squat on it. But see, I know VP of Sales has my back.
Starting point is 00:42:58 Because squat on Toronto Daddy. Cory was just being a dick. He wasn't going to do anything with it. He just wanted
Starting point is 00:43:02 to make it so I couldn't have it because I mentioned I would like to pick it up or something. EPF sales just bought it. He's enterprising, yeah. He owns it. No, he did.
Starting point is 00:43:10 Well, good. Keep it in the family. I trust that guy with my life. He's the great VP of sales at TMDS. All right. That's a good jam to start us off. I'm about to kick out my first jam. Again, I went in a different direction.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Are you guys ready? These are essentially some of my favorite songs of all time. Here's one of them. I love the real-time reaction. Is Levon Helm the drummer on this? You were young and on your own. How did it feel? Is Levon Helm the drummer on this? Oh, I don't have that fun fact. Is he?
Starting point is 00:43:52 I don't know. Sounds like him. I could sort of see that. Cam's going to look it up. It's beautiful. Trying to make the best of my time. Because it's not him. But only love can break your heart. Try to be sure right from the start.
Starting point is 00:44:17 Yes, only love can break your heart. So I noticed I hadn't kicked out much Neil Young. And I listen to a lot of Neil Young, and my favorite Neil Young song changes depending on what type of day it is or what day it is here. So this is the one I chose to go with for this episode, one of my favorite Neil Young songs, Only Love Can Break Your Heart.
Starting point is 00:44:36 Is that, like, to me? Only stew can break your heart. No, no, like the love that I have for you, Mike, has broken my heart. You're always like a chess master. The greatest sport on earth. What album is this from? Great question. This is actually from
Starting point is 00:44:53 After the Gold Rush. This is the third track on After the Gold Rush. The story goes that this was written for Graham Nash after Nash split from Joni Mitchell. Some big names here.
Starting point is 00:45:08 One that got away. I was watching the documentary on Geffen. That's on Netflix. Okay. And there's a great section on Neil Young, obviously. When Neil made that crazy album in the 80s to try to piss off Geffen. Yeah. Everybody's rocking.
Starting point is 00:45:30 And then Geffen sued him saying that he purposely delivered an album that sounds nothing like Neil Young. Right. Non-commercial music. Just an incredible story. And Neil Young is the man. Yeah, the drummer is the drummer of Crazy Horse, Ralph Molina. Ah, that makes sense. Andrew.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Graham Nash, he's the guy who was in the Hollies too, right? Yeah, and of course Crosby Stills and Nash. And Stephen Stills is Buffalo Springfield, not Graham Nash he's the guy he was in the Hollies too right yeah and of course Crosby Stills and Nash and Stephen Stills is Buffalo Springfield not Graham Nash and allegedly one of the biggest assholes in music Stephen Stills who I think also did he did like Carly I think he did a bunch of people and collaborated with Public Enemy for he got game oh my god yes he did so shout
Starting point is 00:46:02 out to Stephen Still. So, just a couple more facts. This is kind of an important song when it comes to Neil Young's catalog, because this song comes out in October 1970, and this is his very first top 40 hit as a solo
Starting point is 00:46:20 artist. So, as a solo artist, this is the first time, because, you know, Buffalo Springfield had some top 40 hits, but Neil Young went to number 33 as a solo artist with this song, Only Love Can Break Your Heart.
Starting point is 00:46:32 And here's a quick mind blow for you guys. And you know, I'll just say this and I'm not going to get too sappy about it, but I realized the joy of Pandemic Friday
Starting point is 00:46:41 is actually kicking out the jams with you guys. Like, this is what I'm going to miss. We're music lovers. I'm going to miss. We're music lovers. I'm going to miss the mind blows and the fun facts and hearing the songs in the headphones. So when I say
Starting point is 00:46:51 it has to end, it's because everything ends and it does have to end. But I am going to miss I'm going to cry right now. I'm going to miss the shit out of this. I'm going to miss it. So I just want you to know I'm not being a cold hearted asshole about this. I'm killing it because I love it. Okay, Stu?
Starting point is 00:47:07 Sometimes only love can break your heart. So quick mind blow. What do you want to say there, Cam? Okay, I'm going to get nerdy here for a second. Mike, were you talking... Oh, just for a second? It's the first time for everything. Were you talking with a guest recently
Starting point is 00:47:21 about the Neil Young tribute album, Borrowed Tunes? Who was that you were talking about? that sammy cone sammy of course because he loves yeah he uh i played a uh neil young cut well they're all neil young covers but from the second uh it was uh uh tom wilson and uh stephen frears and what's that band called blackie and the rodeo and what song did they do uh We did the Unknown Legend. Unknown Legend. Okay, yeah. I just remember the first song
Starting point is 00:47:50 I ever knew by this will come around to a topic Stu likes one of his favorite bands Head. Yeah. The first song
Starting point is 00:47:55 I ever knew by Head We should have played some Head tonight. I love Head. Remember their cover of Look Out for My Love from that album. I think that was
Starting point is 00:48:02 from the same album. The first Borrowed Tunes? Maybe it was another Neil Young tribute album. I remember that you sing a the same album. The first Borrowed Tunes? Maybe it was another Neil Young tribute album. There was two volumes of Borrowed Tunes. Then there was also that Pearl Jam one. Like Mirrorball? Yeah, Mirrorball, but that's a different... What was Merkinball?
Starting point is 00:48:15 Merkinball was the EP that had I Got Shit, and I guess they called it I Got It for radio anyway. But yeah, that was the other one. They did the two that came out. Mirrorball was the Neil Young album, and Merkinball was the EP from Pearl Jam. That story Sammy shared about Moist getting chosen to open, I feel like that's stuck in Sammy's craw.
Starting point is 00:48:34 Because I've heard that story many times. It seems like a real sort of pivotal moment almost. I can't wait to get David Usher on and I can play that clip. That's what I can't wait. I want to play a quick mind blow, though. Oh, yeah, right. Could be on the Britpop episode. Back to life.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Yes. Back to reality. Right. Right. I've been down harder, baby. I've been down harder baby I've been down harder baby ever since the day ever since the day
Starting point is 00:49:13 oh wow wow I didn't even remember this it's actually less offensive than I would have expected to be I think it's good am I crazy like this was a hit back in the day It's actually less offensive than I would have expected it to be. I think it's good. Yeah. Am I crazy?
Starting point is 00:49:27 Like, this was a hit back in the day. Yeah, I'll bring it in if you want to talk about it. This is from 1990. Saint Etienne. Etienne Brulé Park is not too far from here. Shout out to Etienne Brulé Park. I think Gregorski lives there. Etienne Bruté.
Starting point is 00:49:41 Etienne Bruté. Yeah. Oh, I've been there. It's all cats. The miker in the morning. Miker I've been there. It's all cats. The Mic-er in the morning. Mic-er. Shut up. I know there's a rumor going around. I like to be called Mic-er.
Starting point is 00:49:50 I may have said that. The Mic-er in the morning. Mic-er and Moe in the morning. To be polite, I might have told somebody. I kind of like Mic-er and Moe in the morning. Why don't you go to Kingston? I'm not sure I respond to Mic-er, but I can tell you, I say AT&T recorded this cover version in 1990,
Starting point is 00:50:04 and it's on their debut album, Fox Bass Alpha. It's actually a lot. It's like I said, it's not as offensive as I thought it was going to be. It's pretty cool, actually. You know how when you hear Tricky do Black Steel, and you're like, you know, that's a cover of a classic song, but it's good. I like Tricky doing Black Steel. This has got that vibe to it, and I
Starting point is 00:50:25 like it as well. Again, I feel like this was a genuine hit. Genuine covered this also? Fall Up to Pony. I think this was a hit. Monica and Monica should just get the Kingston one. Moe and Moe in the morning. It's Moe Squared in the morning. I don't think Monica's go by
Starting point is 00:50:41 Moe. They go by Mon. I feel like Maureen's go by Moe. Big Maureen. I feel like Maureen's go by Moe. Big Maureen. Okay, what were you saying, Cam? I forget. Okay. Here, I'm just going to...
Starting point is 00:50:52 Did you really forget? I think I was just saying this was an actual UK hit. Yeah, I know. It was a UK hit. Absolutely. And again,
Starting point is 00:50:59 I feel like this did probably get spins on CFNY back in the day. It was a pretty big deal. That was a weird time for CFNY 1990 because that's the pre-grunge when they go like, as Barry Taylor would say, top 40 for grunge. And they were coming out of that whole like spirit of radio and they were kind of like finding out what the hell are we. You know what that song would go with?
Starting point is 00:51:15 The band, the Soup Dragons. Oh, yeah, yeah. Don't be afraid of freedom. Stereo MCs and all that. To do what I want every little time. Okay. Okay. The floor.
Starting point is 00:51:28 No, no. The faster you play my song, the faster this ends. I'll keep talking. You want it to end. I don't want it to end. We can go all night, buddy. Yeah, I'm down.
Starting point is 00:51:36 I got five hours. I drove all night. I'm trying to wait for this fucking thing to come down so I can really talk. Let me find out how many gigabytes I have. Let's talk about the song I'm about to play for my first song. So it's got a lot.. Let me find out how many gigabytes I have. Let's talk about the song I'm about to play for my first song. So it's got a lot.
Starting point is 00:51:46 There's a lot to unpack here. But basically, if you're a fan of the film Young Guns, then you'll probably like this song. If you're a fan. What intro? Yeah, Young Guns. Young Guns 2, by the way, is the better of the Young Guns movies. I'll make you famous.
Starting point is 00:52:03 And it's very rare that a sequel is better. Is Jon Bon Jovi, does he have a cameo in it? I know Tom Cruise does. I don't remember. Tom Cruise. Baby. Tom Cruise has a cameo in Young Guns 1. Young Guns 2 is better than number one.
Starting point is 00:52:16 And there's very, we may have talked about this before, who the fuck knows, but sequels that are better than the original. Terminator 2 is better than Terminator. Terminator 2. Toy Story 2 is better than Toy Story. Godfather 2. Godfather 2 and 1 are very close to meinator 2. Toy Story 2 is better than Toy Story. Godfather 2. Godfather 2 and 1 are very close to me. But Young Guns 2, you don't hear mentioned
Starting point is 00:52:29 too often, but it's a great movie. It's really good. X-Men 2 is better than X-Men. Does Young Guns 1 get mentioned a lot these days? Not as much as it should, but because the Young Guns trilogy, or the I guess there was a third one with like an all-women cast. I don't know if that ever happened. Who's in it? Is it Lou Diamond Phillips? Lou Diamond Phillips? Rob Lowe?
Starting point is 00:52:46 Not Rob Lowe. No, Sheen's brother. Emilio Estevez. Emilio Estevez. Both of them are in it. Baby Christian Slater's in it. Christian Slater's in the second one. As Wild Dave or Arizona Dave or whatever he's called. Hard on Harry, I think.
Starting point is 00:53:01 And he was Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves too, I feel like. Cary Elwes Prince of Thieves, too. I feel like he was. Cary Elwes? Elwes? Cary Elwes. No, he's not in that. No, he's actually in the comedy one. Kiefer Sutherland is in it.
Starting point is 00:53:12 He's in the Robin Hood Men in Tights. Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Christian Slater, Emilio Estevez. Kevin Costner? No. Then there's like the guy who plays Pat Garrett. You know what you're thinking of, I think, young guns, but girls. DeVez. Kevin Costner? No. Then there's like the guy who plays Pat Garrett. You know what you're thinking of, I think, Young Guns but Girls. I think it was called Bad Girls?
Starting point is 00:53:30 Oh, maybe. With like Madeline Stowe and maybe Drew Barrymore? Maybe you're right. I can sort of picture the poster. Like it was almost the same poster. Yeah, I do too. I don't think it was part of it. Anyway, listen, Young Guns fans, you're really going to like this one.
Starting point is 00:53:45 Let's give it a go. Regulators. Stu waited 75 weeks to kick out this game. This is from Young Guns. But you can't be any geek off the street. Gotta be handy with the steel, if you know what I mean, earn your keep.
Starting point is 00:54:01 Sorry, that dialogue? That's from Young Guns. Wow. It was a clear black night, a clear white moon. Warren G was on the streets trying to consume some scourge for the E. So I could get some phones rolling in my ride, chilling all alone. Just hit the east side of the LBC on a mission trying to find Mr. Warren G. Seen a car full of girls, ain't no need to tweak.
Starting point is 00:54:23 All of you scourge know what's up with 213. So I hook select on 21 and Lewis and brother shooting dice. What a champ. Perfect for a hot summer night. It was. Regulate. What a song. Nate Dogg and Warren G were background players before this song. And this song propelled them into the stratosphere of superstardom in a time when hip-hop was really exploding in the mainstream.
Starting point is 00:55:03 And it was part of a soundtrack of a film called Above the Rim. And because of the success of the song, they ended up doing a full record, which gave us a lot more Warren G. And he's become quite a prolific producer and rapper. And of course, Nate Dogg, rest in power. But what a legend appearing on all those classic West Coast records for at least a decade
Starting point is 00:55:28 Was Penny Hardaway at Above the Rim? He may have been, I don't remember I think he was in Blue Chips Everybody was in Blue Chips Penny was also in it I think too Who was Above the Rim? Who was the star of it? Tupac is in it
Starting point is 00:55:44 Oh right, of course I think Tupac is in it. Oh, right. Oh, right. Of course. I think Tupac is in it. Yeah, I think so. Because I remember Tupac was in this music video, and that was crazy, because it was like, Tupac's in this video? But it was because it was, like, clips from the movie. So the song's a big hit.
Starting point is 00:55:58 Actually, at the time, it was Def... Think about this, Mike. Def Jam. Lots of hits on Def Jam. LL Cool J, Run DMC, Beastie Boys. Regulate became Def Jam's biggest selling single ever when it came out. Wow. More than any of those other artists, which is pretty impressive.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Song went to number two in the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States of America. Number one on the hot rap songs. For sure. Didn't see it charting there in Canada, but the next stop, though, is the Eastside Motel. That's actually where we should have the after party. We should have the after party at the Eastside Motel. You know who was fourth billed in Above the Rim?
Starting point is 00:56:41 We got to get to the end of this song, by the way, so we can hear the... I do know, because I just looked at Marlon Wayans. No, I was going to say Wood Harris. Yeah, and he's from The Wire. Avon Barksdale. Of course. By the way, he's in the new Space Jam. He plays the coach of
Starting point is 00:56:56 LeBron's son. Oh, shit. Really? Yeah, early in that. This Wikipedia page is him playing basketball. He's probably 51. I really like... I love Avon Bgdale's character, but I like that actor. Every time I see him,
Starting point is 00:57:08 I dig it. Yeah. I'm trying to read Stu. You want it louder? No, I'm just listening to Cam talk about a movie that I don't remember. What's up with the wire?
Starting point is 00:57:19 This one goes out to Kareem. It's the G-Punk era Punked out with a gangster twist If you smoke like I smoke to Kareem. Pretty cool that like R&B vocals on like a hip hop, like you know obviously that had been done before in the 70s, but like as 90s kids, it was like new to us to hear that type of,
Starting point is 00:57:51 you know, singing, but like hardcore subject matter, not singing about love or making love, singing about gangster shit. I think Mike's kind of a buster, to be honest. And also that song was definitely in heavy rotation, driving on Thornhill with a young Stu Stoney
Starting point is 00:58:05 sure let's get to the not so mind blowing find out why we really played that song let's get it out of the way Stu just plays that to get to the mind blowing I played it just to get to this baby get on the fucking boat Yacht Rock 2 is here folks
Starting point is 00:58:22 what is this? Yacht Rock 2 all of Stu's picks are going to tie in. I have no idea. This mind blow is right in Stu's wheelhouse. It's right in Stu's wheelhouse. Hey. I keep forgetting we're not in love anymore. I keep forgetting things will never be the same again. Patron Saint of Pandemic Fridays
Starting point is 00:58:53 Oh this is great It's a great jam Switches gears Every time I see your smile. Hear your hello. His face is like that harpsichord. Saying you can only stay a while. Wow. Joker Roru says, Mike Mack in the house.
Starting point is 00:59:17 I know. That it's hard for you to say the thing. You know, for the rest of my life, when I hear this gentleman, or I hear Kenny Loggins, I'm going to think of Stu. I like that. That's good. So you got, I keep forgetting, Michael McDonald, the great Michael McDonald. Wow.
Starting point is 00:59:35 The captain of the ship. You'll never guess, Cam, who is playing guitar on this song that you're listening to right now. I would say, based on your intonation, it's probably fucking Steve Luther. The great Steve Lukather of Toto on guitar. The great Jeff Beccaro of Toto on the drums. There you go.
Starting point is 00:59:54 It's basically a Michael McDonald-Toto mashup to make this song. Is this pre-Toto when they were just session players? No, this is post-Toto. Okay, well, I don't know what year this is. I was going to say, what year is this song? Is this like 82? Something like that. Because, I don't know what year this is. I was going to say, what year is this song? Is this like 82? Something like that.
Starting point is 01:00:06 Because, I mean, Toto... This is Michael McDonald's first success post-Doobie Brothers. Okay. This is his solo album. Okay. Because, as I've learned, you know, Toto was a... They were session musicians. Of course.
Starting point is 01:00:20 Yeah. So, when they got success as a band, they didn't stop. That only made Their value go up More people wanted Them on their records So they were like Playing for like
Starting point is 01:00:29 Boss Skag Everybody Right But they played On this record I just like saying The name Boss Skag They played on this record
Starting point is 01:00:35 For sure And Oh yeah Michael McDonald man Sounds like him He's the fucking man This is a fucking Yacht rock classic
Starting point is 01:00:42 For sure Bring on this Oh we're out of time for the sequel Dude, did you know when we were kids that By the way, this went to number four in the United States Did you know this song when we were kids? I did Okay, because I didn't know that until about six years ago, maybe
Starting point is 01:00:54 A lot of people are going to say they learned about it six minutes ago I was raised on this yacht rock shit So yeah, there you go I got some Michael McDonald and Steve Luke. Steve was raised on the high seas. Lukather and Toto and Michael McDonald.
Starting point is 01:01:09 By the way, this song produced by the same producer that produced all of your favorite Van Halen records. Van Halen, what? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:16 We've talked about that before. Yeah, well, Lukather and Eddie Van Halen were like best friends. Can I ask a dumb question? So the term yacht rock is fairly new. Yes.
Starting point is 01:01:26 Like 15 years or whatever. Yes. So what did you call this before? It was called the West Coast Sound or Light Rock. But the West Coast Sound is really what they called it.
Starting point is 01:01:32 Like the West Coast Sound. I love easy rock. Smooth. Yeah, easy rock. L-I-T. But really it's like it's sort of Yesterday's Classics
Starting point is 01:01:40 and Light Favorites. Yeah. Who coined that? Was it? It seems like it's from a YouTube show. it's from a YouTube show. It's from a YouTube show. Yeah, three actors or something in LA coined the phrase yacht rock.
Starting point is 01:01:50 God bless. And it stuck. It stuck. Yeah, it stuck. I actually learned, and I wrote about this, but I learned fairly recently that the word mullet, you know, the hairstyle. Shout out to Kim Mitchell. Like that term was invented by the Beastie Boys
Starting point is 01:02:06 in 1994. So anytime you, for example, let's say 1992, you were watching Yarmir Yager play for the Penguins. You weren't saying like, oh, look at the mullet on Yager. That word didn't exist yet. People would call it hockey hair. I've heard a lot. Hardy in the back.
Starting point is 01:02:22 Yeah. So it's just interesting to think about when you think about these guys who predate 1994 like Billy Ray Cyrus or whatever. Every wrestler. Yeah, we weren't calling it mullet. John Michaels. Brian Pillman. That term shows up in 94. Have you guys seen the pitch? Oh yeah, no.
Starting point is 01:02:38 Canada Kev, look it up. I did some extensive research. This term was not show up anywhere until 94. Who is the Blue Jay? I guarantee you it didn't. He says I until 94. Who is the Toronto Blue Jay pitcher with the really long blonde hair? He's one of these guys that keeps on shuttling back and forth. Oh, he's like an Axl Rose lookalike. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:54 His name's Axl. I'm trying to remember what that guy's name is. I just saw him for the first time on the TV the other day. I'm like, holy shit. Because I think I tweeted out, is this the longest ever hair on the Blue Jays? Because it was like halfway down his back it was surprising Kirby Yates
Starting point is 01:03:08 it's definitely not Kirby Yates not Kirby Yates it's something like that though VP of sound yeah anyway alright just wanted to get my first song out you know I already won the episode
Starting point is 01:03:19 I like that first jam but as you know there's no winners or losers on Pandemic Friday but I'm now excited to play this because this is a jam I haven't heard in a long time. It's Cam's turn. Yeah. But I'm still excited to play it. Remember, I know all the jams. I sort of forget it because I know I reordered
Starting point is 01:03:34 them and now I forget. But that's okay. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to go. Okay, let's just pick it up. Oh, I know what this is. Wow. Wow. Hey, what this is. Wow. Wow. Hey. Yes, there it is. You'll see the 102.1 on the edge.
Starting point is 01:03:53 It's like a... Yes. What a jam. I need to download this on my phone. This is a CFMY staple. Good beat. I need to download this on my phone. This is a CFMY staple. Good beat. It definitely sounds a lot more like it now that you're hearing it.
Starting point is 01:04:16 Kirby Sneed. Kirby Sneed, yes. Shout out to Kirby Sneed. Yeah, let's let this one ride. I can't believe you're playing this. There's any song in the universe. Wow. Wow. Yeah. So here's maybe a song we haven't heard in a while.
Starting point is 01:04:51 This is No Myth by Michael Penn. Wow. I knew you were a big Michael Penn guy. Big Michael Penn guy. A couple of things. Michael Penn is a one-hit wonder. This kind of sounds like that Lawrence Gowen song that they also played on CFN Live. Yeah, I could see that.
Starting point is 01:05:06 A bit of that walking on my two feet. Same almost. You should find it, Mike. You should. Trust me. For the comps. Well, I was going to say, I was wondering, was this alternative rock? Because this song's from 1989.
Starting point is 01:05:15 I heard it somewhere live, but I don't think it was one of two. It was on MTV for sure. It was on much music. A lot. I can remember the video. He's on a dilapidated apartment. And, of course, he's Sean Penn's brother, right? Also brother of Chris Penn, who Stu Stone started with.
Starting point is 01:05:30 The Boys Club. So I was sort of wondering, because again, I don't really think of Michael Penn as an alternative artist because he came a bit early. So one of my tropes, I like to go to Spotify and say, whoever listens to this also likes these artists. So here's the top four comps okay so you got freddie johnston i think most notable because he had a song on the my so-called life soundtrack okay you got matthew sweet oh yeah you can see that you got neil finn yeah crowded house i can hear that and we have a band we have heard on Pandemic Fry's World Party. Yep.
Starting point is 01:06:06 Okay. So here's a bunch of fun facts. Check your DMs, Mike. Go ahead, Kim. Here's a bunch of fun facts about Michael Penn. We talked about the Neil Young tribute album. Right around the same time, another very famous tribute album was The Sweet Relief. Oh, interesting.
Starting point is 01:06:24 Yeah, for Victoria Williams. Yeah, Victoria Williams, Michael Penn covered a song called Weeds. Famous because it had Pearl Jam doing Crazy Mary, as well as the other grunge band Soul Asylum doing Summer of Drugs, which I feel like you've played. I do, because it's my favorite Soul Asylum song.
Starting point is 01:06:39 Is that cover? There you go. There you go. Good grunge act. Do we know who Michael Penn is married to? Amy Mann. Amy Mann. Very good. I do know that. From the Magnolia soundtrack. She used to date Dave Foley. And she was in Till Tuesday. That's right. Yeah, voices carried. Very good. You're
Starting point is 01:06:55 nailing it. I keep you on it. Michael Penn's done a lot of music for film and television. He scored Boogie Nights. Wow, I like that movie. Amy Mann does Magnolia. Wow, I like that movie. Most famously. Okay, if I may, there's Amy Mann does Magnolia. Yeah, so who's that? P.T. Anderson?
Starting point is 01:07:09 Yeah, P.T. Anderson. This is the same guy. So there's a connection there. That checks out. He also has done a bit of acting. Most notably, his first acting role was a cameo in Saint Elsewhere. Great show. Okay. Love that episode. And then last but not least, he's done a lot of TV recently. Music for TV, including the show's Girls. Love that episode. And then last but not least, he's done a lot of TV recently,
Starting point is 01:07:25 music for TV, including the shows Girls. I watched Girls. I watched it. Lena Dunham, as well as the show Masters of Sex. I've heard of it. I think it's critically acclaimed,
Starting point is 01:07:35 but I didn't watch it. Yeah, Masters and Masters did all the... Anyway, again, Michael Penn, seems like someone should have had a bigger career, but seems like he's done quite well for himself. That's a great jam. And I'm ready now to play the bonus jam from Stu Stone.
Starting point is 01:07:49 It's by Gowan. It's kind of the same song. Very similar. Yeah, like a more overproduced version. No myth. I can see it. Even like the melody, it's like the same song.
Starting point is 01:08:13 Wow, this kicks too. And Alan Cross said this was played. For sure. It sounds like a CFNY song. Alan's wrong. If the other song is... But it doesn't sound like a CFNY song from the 90s. It does to me, like the noon hour kind of... LA Stew doesn't remember.
Starting point is 01:08:30 I don't disagree with Stew. This wouldn't be out of place. I just don't think it did get played because Gowan was not cool. But this was rebranded as Lawrence Gowan. That makes it less likely to get played. Alanis came back as Alanis Morissette. He was now Lawrence Gowan.
Starting point is 01:08:44 Everybody was sort of rebranding. This is like, you remember the York Foundation? Like Terrence Taylor, Richard Morton. Yes. You still knew it was those same, like, I understand that, but you still knew Alanis was like the never too much girl. Right.
Starting point is 01:08:55 You still gave her a shot. But she sounded nothing like, but anyways. Anyway, I will say yes, it does sort of sound like no myth. Okay. It's right there. Something interesting came out of that conversation about Michael Penn's No Myth. It blew my fucking mind when it started organically rising up.
Starting point is 01:09:12 Here's my second fucking jam. She lived on a curb in the road. Wow. Love this song. Isn't that weird? Isn't that fucking weird? And I didn't change the order even. Maybe we shouldn't have the show like that.
Starting point is 01:09:26 I don't know. I used to love this song. Sometimes we'd say, Mama, can we stop and give her a ride? Sometimes we did, but her hands flew from her side. From her side Wild eye Crazy Mary Down a long dirt road Past the Barson's place
Starting point is 01:10:11 That old blue car We used to race Little country store With a sign tagged to the side Said no L-O-I-T-E-R-I-N-G-A loud underneath that sign always congregated
Starting point is 01:10:35 quite a crowd take a bottle drink it down pass it around take a bottle drink it down. Pass it around. Take a bottle, drink it down. Pass it around. Take a bottle, drink it down. Pass it, pass it, pass it, pass it around.
Starting point is 01:11:02 You want me to blow your mind? That's what you fear the most. And I did disclose this with Dave Hodgwood, so anyone who's paying close attention will not hear this for the first time. But I am a huge Pearl Jam fan who has seen them live, I don't know, 12, 13 times. And this is my favorite Pearl Jam song. Great song. And they didn't even write it.
Starting point is 01:11:22 They didn't even fucking write it. Wow. So what are we listening to? This crazy mary oh my god and this is of course written by victoria williams we just talked about this during the last jam so my mind is blowing that we just fucking talked about this a lot of things with me and music is timing like uh when a song breaks and i'm like in a certain mode like this is me taking the subway to U of T in my first year. So it's in my Sony Walkman. Reminds me of high school for sure.
Starting point is 01:11:49 Sweet spot. Yeah, right. That would make sense because I've got a couple on you there. And I would hear it. It was on high rotation on 102.1. I'd wake up at the 102.1. I'd listen to my Walkman, go to school. I picked up this album.
Starting point is 01:12:01 It's called Sweet Relief, A Benefit for Victoria Williams. And that's when I fell in love with that Soul Asylum song, Summer of Drugs. It's fucking great. But here's the wild thing here. Every song on Sweet Relief, A Benefit for Victoria Williams is a cover of a Victoria Williams song.
Starting point is 01:12:16 Except this one, which she did not record yet. She wrote this song. This is her song, but she had never recorded this. She actually doesn't record this until the year after Pearl Jam puts out this. Is she doing backing vocals?
Starting point is 01:12:30 Like I said, that's her, right? Yes, okay, thank you. That's some fun facts. You're stomping on me here. Spoiler alert. So she wrote this song, but the first ever studio release of Crazy Mary is this version by Pearl Jam.
Starting point is 01:12:42 And then Victoria released it a year later. Yes, the backup vocals, I think we hear it right here. Is Victoria Williams. Yeah, this is her. I take a bottle, drink it down Pass it, pass it Pass it around Did either of you two have a sweet relief in your CD collection? For sure, I loved this song
Starting point is 01:13:13 It also was a Japanese import Like it was a B-side on one of the other Sort of, you could get it that way too Like Yellow Leadbetter style Yeah, I was gonna say this song reminds me of just The time when just any Pearl Jam, they were so hot that any morsel of Pearl Jam would just
Starting point is 01:13:29 skyrocket. And I was trying to remember if Victoria Williams had songs on CFNY. I do not recall. It would be before my time. I was probably listening to CFDR. Did we point out why they did a benefit for her? I don't think we pointed out. I will point it out. She had multiple, well, she has multiple sclerosis.
Starting point is 01:13:48 Yeah. And they were basically raising funds to help artists who are dealing with these expensive health conditions. And she's still with us. I did check that. She's 62 years old. And they did a second version of this CD. Yes, that's right.
Starting point is 01:14:02 Yeah, that had Smashing Pumpkins were on there, as well as Toronto's own Mary Margaret O'Hara, who I think has a very similar style. Sister of Catherine O'Hara. And also did the sign for the Rivoli that I tweeted a graphic. We had a little conversation with Ben Rayner
Starting point is 01:14:17 and John Hito for court. I don't know. Are you going to reconsider now that Cam is bringing the goods? I don't write anything in permanent ink. Wow! But I think we're fucking done. Wait a minute. That's not a no.
Starting point is 01:14:31 I think we're fucking done. I don't know. I think we're fucking done. Well, Mike, did you know Victoria Williams also put out a commercially available live album that was recorded in Toronto? No. How does Cam know all these fun facts on your song? She was a big deal. Was she not?
Starting point is 01:14:44 Well, here. Let me do the mind blow just so people can compare. Sometimes on the way into town, we say, Mama, can we stop and give a ride? Sometimes we did, but she shook her head and her hands flew from her side. Wild eyes. You know that song? We've played it on the show before, like, I'm Not a Junkie. Not an addict. Not an addict's choice. We did it at LGBTQ+.
Starting point is 01:15:22 I like that song. I like it, too. And that's why, because he transitioned. It's kind of similar to... Oh, that's Choice. We did it at LGBTQ+. I like that song. I like it too. And that's why, because he transitioned. It's kind of similar to... Oh, that's right. This kind of reminds me of that same kind of era. Belgium? Belgian band, I think?
Starting point is 01:15:35 That sounds right. So this, of course, is the... Again, it's not that Pearl Jam covered this. It's that Victoria Williams wrote it and then Pearl Jam recorded it so this version we're listening to now was recorded a year after the Pearl Jam recording sounds great yeah well fuck what a song and honestly it gives me
Starting point is 01:15:54 chills I'm so glad we could kick it so this is Beast of the Reeds so I wanted to kick out my favorite jam good choice not yet been kicked out hey can I give a bit of dating gossip we don't actually do this but just when you mentioned... Is it about Stu? No, it's not. It's about musicians. But you know musicians who have transitioned.
Starting point is 01:16:10 Yeah. I feel like somebody's come over here and kicked out a song by the band Against Me. Great example. That episode I opened with a clip of Against Me. Okay. And you know, I assume it's her or they. I don't know their pronouns offhand. I think it's her. Do you know who that they, I don't know their pronouns offhand.
Starting point is 01:16:25 I think it's her. Do you know who that individual, I don't know if they still are dating, because this is someone I'm actually going to see in concert in Montreal this weekend. I just learned this. I don't know if you know this is Corde Pirate. Big time. I don't know. Like, I just know they're popular in Quebec.
Starting point is 01:16:41 A couple. The person from Against Me and Corde Pirate. Apparently a couple. And since we're talking about people who transitioned, The Sweater. Remember the song
Starting point is 01:16:50 The Sweater? That heavy rotation. Meryl Caddell. Meryl Caddell. Meryl Caddell, yes. He transitioned into a man. I remember hearing
Starting point is 01:16:59 something about Terrence Trent Darby but I don't think it's true. That was an urban legend. I think that's one of our greatest myths. TTD. I don't think it's true. Speaking of someone who should have had think that's one of our greatest misses. TTD. I don't think it's true.
Starting point is 01:17:05 Speaking of someone who should have had a bigger career. Here's a dig. Stu's about to kick out someone who had a pretty big fucking career. Yeah, and I also think that this is going to be kind of controversial because this guy obviously, there's other sort of problematic stuff, but it's going to
Starting point is 01:17:21 be controversial in the sense that it's a problematic gem, but it's going to be problematic and controversial in the sense that I want to go on the record and say that despite how I may have felt in 1984, 85, 83, 80, 45, now at the age that I'm at,
Starting point is 01:17:38 this is my favorite song by this artist. So smooth. This is Yacht Run. For sure. This is Yacht Run. Four walls won't hold me tonight If this town is just an apple Then let me take a bite If they say why, why Tell them that it's human nature Why, why Does it do it that way
Starting point is 01:18:44 I can remember, we'll turn it up again in a bit, but remember when buttons were all the rage? Of course. There was like a Michael Jackson button that was like him in the Human Nature video outfit. He was wearing like a yellow sweater with a bow tie, I want to say. Like a yellow sweater vest kind of thing. Yes, I actually remember.
Starting point is 01:19:05 And it's just like I used to wear buttons. You know, Duran Duran buttons. Oh, it's a big, big thing. Michael Jackson buttons and Motley Crue buttons or whatever buttons. I had a button collection. Yeah, my sister did too. I had an older sister, so if she was into buttons, I was into buttons. They're still popular.
Starting point is 01:19:22 You still see them in headshots. I feel like it's more just like ironic now. Bananarama had a lot of buttons on their denim jackets. The was into buttons. They're still popular. You still see them in like Hedgehog. I feel like it's like ironic now like people Bananarama had a lot of buttons on their denim jackets. The Misfits. I'm guessing there was
Starting point is 01:19:31 a big button business. But this was a button that I remember like even there was oversized buttons like that were like you know novelty sized buttons
Starting point is 01:19:39 of this Michael Jackson in like a outfit. You'd put on like a pig like at the county fair like first press. But the Thriller album is so good. I mean, that's such an easy fucking hack thing to say, but it really is. Like if you go back now with adult ears, you could hear just what a masterpiece it really is.
Starting point is 01:19:59 And as a kid, you get caught up in Thriller and the video and Beat It and Billie Jean. But all the album tracks are fucking dope, too. I'm going to say something I never say. Stu, I agree with you. This is Michael Jackson's best song. Wow. Human nature. I love that you said that, Mike.
Starting point is 01:20:14 I said it. This song went to number one in Canada on the adult contemporary charts. Number three on 1050 Chum. Ooh. 1050 Chum. Number seven in the United States of America. It was remixed, of course, in the 90s. Teddy Riley, our buddy Teddy Riley,
Starting point is 01:20:30 who did SWV right here. Remember SWV? Right. Yeah. Yeah, Sisters With Voices. And of course, Nas, the great rapper Nas. It ain't hard to tell, one of the best rap albums of all time. This was easily the most commercially accessible Nas song.
Starting point is 01:20:46 I just sent it to Mike by DM. I wanted to try the Mind Blow. Oh, with this? No, with the Nas. SWE? I'm not going to pay attention. What's going on here? Well, let's talk about the Mind Blow, shall we?
Starting point is 01:20:57 Let's just get right into it. Oh, wait, wait. Before you get into the Mind Blow, this song was first performed, Mike, on the Jackson's Victory Tour, which I was at. Which I was at at Exhibition Stadium. My song was first performed, Mike, on the Jackson's Victory Tour, which I was at. Which I was at at Exhibition Stadium. My mom was there. So you crossed paths with Crazy Mary. I crossed paths with your mom. Crazy Mary. Where Michael started
Starting point is 01:21:13 to sing the song Ben, then stops Ben, starts this song, and the place goes nuts. Wow. Yeah. There is actually video of that. That's a good up level. And remember, Michael didn't play this town very often, right? No.
Starting point is 01:21:28 That was it. That was it. If you didn't go to that Victory Tour show, you did not see Michael Jackson. I'm going to remind Crazy Mary that she was in Rarified Air. The Jacksons for sure played Toronto, but Michael never came back again. That's wild. But the Jackson 5 probably never played here. They probably did, I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:21:43 Did they ever tour? I'm sure they did. We'll have to let someone more qualified look that up. But let's get to the mind blow because Michael Jackson actually didn't write that song, Cam. What? Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, Toto! I knew this, though. Wow.
Starting point is 01:22:07 I did not know that. Obviously, Michael's vocals are better. This sounds like Roxy music. But did Toto write anything else on Thriller? Yeah, well, they played on all of Michael's records. Sure, but did they write anything else? He got writing credit on three tracks they have writing credit on, but they played on almost the whole record.
Starting point is 01:22:33 Fucking Toto. Whenever I hear Toto, I'll think of Stu as well. That's the other one. Were they on his other records? Yeah, Off the Wall also. Basically, Quincy Jones only used the best musicians in town, so of course he's going to use Toto. Wow.
Starting point is 01:22:46 But famously, of course, Lukather is on the Human Nature Michael Jackson track. He's also playing on Beat It, basically the whole record. But anyway, what a fucking jam. The Michael Jackson version is superior, but it's really awesome that it was written by Toto. By accident, Quincy Jones happened to hear them sort of jamming on it and was like, what's that?
Starting point is 01:23:09 They're like, oh, that's just something we're toying with. And he's like, well, let's give it to Michael. And they were like, sure. And that was the smartest decision Toto ever made. Did they release a version of this? This sounds like a live version. This is a live version. There's a demo version that is online, but it's obviously not as good as this,
Starting point is 01:23:26 but pretty cool. I have a bonus mind blow from Cameron Gordon. Oh, no, that's okay. Stu got to it. Yeah, we were going to hear that in Nas' song. Oh, we can listen to this anyway. This is Nas. It ain't hard to tell. Let's listen to this.
Starting point is 01:23:42 You didn't play enough hip-hop in 75 weeks, considering how much I enough hip-hop in 75 weeks, considering how much I love hip-hop. I'm known as the Yacht Rock guy here, but really, Cam, you know I was a hip-hop guy. That's true. I'm a freaking rapper. Performed.
Starting point is 01:23:54 You sold some units. I've seen it. I'm a big hip-hop fan myself. It ain't hard to tell. I excel, then prevail. The mic is contacted, I attract clientele. My mic check is like a trap. So good. Breathing a sniper's breath, I exhale. and myself. It ain't hard to tell. So good. Ooh, clean version.
Starting point is 01:24:13 Yeah, this is the YouTube. Get out of here with your fucking censored version. Okay, awesome. Cam, anything you want to say before your next jam? Nope, because I don't
Starting point is 01:24:22 remember the order. So go ahead. There's a little bit of a build up here. This is a feel good too. This is great, Cam. I really want to give Cam a hug when this is over with because he's really Save it for next Friday. I love you, man. I love you too, buddy.
Starting point is 01:24:38 Wow. Maybe there'll be one more song that has a similar center. Oh, sing it. Maybe there'll be one more song that has a similar scent. Listen as your day unfolds. Challenge what the future holds. Try and keep your head up to the sky. Hey! Lovers, they may cause you tears. Go ahead, release your fears. Stand up and be counted.
Starting point is 01:25:01 Don't be ashamed to cry. You gotta be. You gotta be. Again Don't be ashamed to cry. You gotta be. Again, like, back to reality. Is there a conscious effort to do that? I think there was an unconscious. Like, definitely, that's where my head was. I don't really want to fight. Someone should do, like, the mega mix.
Starting point is 01:25:23 That should be us. Why don't we do a deep dive without Mike? Who do you love? Steve liked the Toto version better than the Michael Jackson version. Well, Steve's got good taste. Okay. Well, does Steve like Desiree? Because that's who we're hearing now.
Starting point is 01:25:36 You gotta be. There was like a whole dance that went with this. Was there? I don't remember the dance. It was like hand movements? No, it was like you gotta be strong. You gotta be tough. You gotta be strong You gotta be tough Like the Macarena
Starting point is 01:25:48 Or the chicken dance I thought that was so funny YMCA Big hit again No wonder Desiree Went to number 5 in the US Only number 36 in Canada Number 14 in her native UK.
Starting point is 01:26:07 Uh, Desiree is from the Croydon section of London. Do I know some other people who are either from there or spend time there? Hugh Grant. It's a good list. I'm just going to run through them. Cause there's a lot. You got Amy Winehouse.
Starting point is 01:26:20 Well, they have a statue of her at that Camden. Uh, cause my, my wife, Monica, uh, took a photo of the Amy Winehouse statue In the Camden market or something Really?
Starting point is 01:26:29 Yeah Okay We have someone who I think was The last concert tickets I had That got cancelled before COVID And this guy never showed up Stormzy He's like kind of the biggest hip hop artist
Starting point is 01:26:39 In the UK at the moment We have someone we've talked about a lot And maybe this is why I'm wearing the t-shirt Kirstie McCall Wow From there My favorite Christmas song Yeah we have we've talked about a lot and maybe this is why I'm wearing the t-shirt. Kirstie McCall. Wow. They've got my favorite Christmas song. We have someone else who is a lot of ties. Her death is horrific whenever I think about it. It's so sad. Run over by a boat or something. Saving her kids
Starting point is 01:26:53 in this zone where boats weren't allowed. You were only supposed to swim. A guy's propeller got her when she was pushing her kid out of the way. Grizzly. Kate Moss. Of course. Model. Model. And then three people from the literary world.
Starting point is 01:27:07 We've got Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Wow. Sherlock himself. That's a big one. That's a big one. And then we've got, I think these guys are
Starting point is 01:27:14 both American maybe. Or no, D.H. Lawrence and Raymond Chandler. D.H. Lawrence is Canadian. Isn't? That's Margaret
Starting point is 01:27:23 Lawrence. That's Margaret Lawrence. Shout out to Slow Jam Cam who's listening. My buddy in L.A.H. Lawrence is Canadian, isn't he? That's Margaret Lawrence. Shout out to Slow Jam Cam who's listening, my buddy in L.A. Yeah. Anyway, Desiree also went to the Camberwell College of Arts. Now, this is notable because this is the same school that Sid Barrett went to. Sid Barrett, wow.
Starting point is 01:27:41 I remember Ben Rayner said his dad was a crazy diamond. Yeah, exactly. He had issues. A couple more fun facts about this song. 1995 was nominated for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards. Did not win. What year? I'm going to guess.
Starting point is 01:27:56 1995. 1995. Give me a second. 1995. Another summer. Six years too late. The answer is going to be Wonderwall by Oasis. Best female video.
Starting point is 01:28:12 Wait, what year? I should pay more attention. 1995. Jenna Jackson. Yeah, I'll go Jenna. Great guess. Like, that's the way love goes. Who else made a lot of videos?
Starting point is 01:28:20 Madonna. Yes, Madonna. What song? Rain. Good, good. This used to be my playground. All great guesses. Actually, the song Take a Bow. Yeah, the same style.
Starting point is 01:28:30 Matador theme. Go with Tito Santana video. Yeah, shout out to Matador. Shout out to Hemingway. Again, Desiree, you would think, was a one-hit wonder, but she did actually have a number one hit from 1998 called Life. I listened to this on Spotify
Starting point is 01:28:46 and never heard it. It went to number one in both Italy and the Netherlands. The brother says Desiree had three hits, but they all had the same beat. That's according to the brother. I could sort of see that. Anyway, this song Life, the subject matter, and even the subject matter for this, You Gotta Be, I always thought very similar to Edwin,
Starting point is 01:29:01 Alive. Oh, I love Edwin. Kind of like an epic, we gotta live our best life. Not to be confused with Pable Upon Death, Alive. That's right. When the rain comes down. One final vague comment about You Gotta Be. I feel like this song was in many commercials over the year.
Starting point is 01:29:18 It was sold to banks and stuff. It's like, you gotta be tied. You gotta be tough. Yeah. You gotta be alive. Stuff like cat crap. I could hear that. Hey, I want to clarify something for FOTM Steve. It's like, you gotta be tied, you gotta be tough, you gotta be wild. I could hear that. Hey, I want to clarify something for FOTM Steve.
Starting point is 01:29:32 It wasn't the Total Virgin he liked better, it was Nas. So he's just saying that was better than Michael Jackson's song. I want to clarify that. Also wrong. Actually, Nas is good, but that Michael Jackson song is pretty awesome. His funeral, when you think about John Mayer came up and did Human Nature on the guitar there, seemed out of place at the time. Has he been canceled, John Mayer? He's back.
Starting point is 01:29:49 He has a new album. He's called Dad Rock. So we uncanceled John. We'll keep it. Yeah, he has an ironic album cover. Joker Roru just says DJ Stormzy is probably related to DJ Farbzy. That would make sense. That's wrong.
Starting point is 01:30:02 That's incorrect. DJ Farbzy, by the way, this is a fucking funny story. Do you guys remember, you know the restaurant Eastside Mario's? Yeah, I'm familiar. This is a true story, okay? And I waited 75 weeks to spill this tea.
Starting point is 01:30:18 Okay, I'm ready. They had a... I think I know this. They had a promotion at Eastside Mario's that they had chicken parmesan that's bigger than your head or else it's free. Wow. So he went in
Starting point is 01:30:33 and he got the fucking chicken parmesan and he complained that it was not bigger than his head and they were like, no sir, it's just an expression. And he's like, no, it says right here, if it's not bigger than my thing, and it's not bigger than my head,
Starting point is 01:30:49 then I demand to get another one. And then they wouldn't give it to him. And this is in the early days of social media. He went on like a shit posting storm. It was all over Yelp. Yeah, it was like, fuck East Side Mario's, they promised me the parmesan was going to be bigger than my head, and it wasn't.
Starting point is 01:31:05 And I think he ended up actually settling with them, and they sent him some coupons for some chicken parmesan. That's great. Remember Jonathan Schwartz, his Yelp? Yeah. Oh, he's the best Yelper in the world. Best. Memory lane.
Starting point is 01:31:20 Again, but we've got to end this. We've got to end this. It's got to end. It can't be the Thornhill this is terrible it's not fun bad tunes I've almost never been to Thornhill that reminds me of that story you just told reminds me of like the Simpsons when
Starting point is 01:31:34 they sued the guy who wrote the never ending story or something because it ended and then that's why they were saying all you can eat they wouldn't give him all he could eat by the way Mike before I forget, can we get lasagnas today? Two went to Monor Wales and one went to Peter Gross this morning.
Starting point is 01:31:51 I have one in the freezer. Is it meat or vegetable? We can Rochambeau for it. Do you have like a saw? It's pretty fucking frozen. Stu can have it. If you're going out at 10, you can take it with you to Montreal.
Starting point is 01:32:05 Frozen lasagna? Going out at 10, you can take it with you to Montreal. Frozen lasagna? Look. It travels well. I'm traveling light. There's going to be plenty of palma pasta at the next pandemic Friday.
Starting point is 01:32:15 You can have it, That's true. I don't even have room in my fridge for it. That's true. We're working out the details, but they're going to feed every FOTM.
Starting point is 01:32:21 Well, why don't we wrestle for it? There is one in my freezer. Yeah, we got to end this show. It's not fun. It's dumb. It's so dumb. It's not fair.
Starting point is 01:32:31 Everything ends. Like what? You want it every single week for the rest of our lives? Like so long? COVID-19 is not going anywhere. We need to learn how to live with it. I'm learning. Yes, it's been defanged.
Starting point is 01:32:39 But you're not moving on from there. You're moving on from Cam and Stu, which is a great brand. I love the indignant. It's defanged. It's been defanged. I just would like to get my two little ones vaccinated. They're under 12, and I would like to get them vaccinated. Do you want to extend the show until they're vaccinated?
Starting point is 01:32:54 No, because the show ends next week, next Friday. What did they announce today? Oh, if you are turning 12 in this calendar year, let's say your birthday is in late December, you can get it now. You know, you should take fake their birthday. I was going to say Jervis put like the trench coat and like the hat sort of like snake with a fake ID.
Starting point is 01:33:12 Right. Hello, sir. I'm here for my vaccine. I made that joke to Monica already. Thanks very much. Okay, you guys ready? Another song I love. In fact, we played this artist last week. Here's a song I love very much. I like him. canyons he works in the saddle and he sleeps in the canyons waiting for summer his pastures to change
Starting point is 01:33:52 and as the moon rises he sits by his fire thinking about women and glasses of beer closing his eyes as the doggies retire he sings out a song which is soft but it's clear as if maybe someone could hear Good night, you moonlight ladies Rock-a-bye, sweet baby Jane Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose Won't you let me go down in my dreams And rock- by Sweet Baby James All right, we just talked about Jarvis, but this song is not for Jarvis.
Starting point is 01:34:53 This song is for my firstborn. So when my first wife and I were expecting our first child, you know, you talk about names and stuff, and we were trying to figure out a name, and I thought of this song I love, Sweet Baby James, and the rest is history. Because my firstborn
Starting point is 01:35:12 was named James, and even now he's a man. Jimmy Boone. Big fucking man. Wild Jim Boone. It's Bond. James Bond. And even now I still call him Sweet Baby James. Has he ever gone by Jim or Jimmy? No's Bond. James Bond. And even now, I still call him Sweet Baby James. Has he ever gone by Jim or Jimmy? No, he likes James.
Starting point is 01:35:30 He likes James. Or Jay? Jimmy's cool. I always thought Jimmy's a cool name, but he goes by James. So, Sweet Baby James is, of course, a James Taylor song. This is the title track, the opening track, from his 1970 breakthrough album, Sweet Baby Jane.
Starting point is 01:35:46 It's so wild how this guy sounds so Jim Taddy but he's really Mark Hebbshire. You know what I mean? Yeah, this guy's a bad motherfucker. Yeah, that's right. We've talked about this. He's just like the bad boy of rock but you would never know it. He helped out quite a bit when Homer was in space. Remember Deep Space Homer?
Starting point is 01:36:02 They had a problem and he had that idea how they got the ants out of the Martha's Vineyard cottage there. But, yeah. Bivipric. So, he, well, we'll get to that
Starting point is 01:36:12 in a moment. Is he the You're So Vain guy from Carly Simon's song? No. It's Warren Beatty. Oh, yeah, that's right. But there was rumor and it was Warren Beatty.
Starting point is 01:36:20 I feel like there's a lot of rumor. No, Mick Jagger sings on the song. He's the backup vocalist in the song. Right, that's your mind blow there. So yeah, James Taylor was like a candidate, but it was Warren Beatty. Right, right, right.
Starting point is 01:36:29 Okay, so this is the first single. And actually, ready for this, Sweet Baby James does not chart in America. It doesn't chart. This is not a hit. But if you ask James Taylor what's his best song, he'll tell you it's Sweet Baby James. I like Whenever I See You Smile by James Taylor.
Starting point is 01:36:45 That's a dope song. That's not a sheriff. Sorry, I just realized this isn't, this is a dumb question. This isn't about himself. No, no, no. I'll explain that right now. So, okay. So James Taylor's brother is named Alex.
Starting point is 01:37:01 So Alex had a son, which would be James Taylor's nephew. And just to confuse things, I find this very confusing. Alex named his son James, so James Taylor has a nephew named James Taylor. Anyway, this song is named after his nephew, so it's not named after himself.
Starting point is 01:37:20 It's kind of a George Foreman. To clean that up there. Jimmy Taylor. Wild Jimmy Taylor. Here Taylor. Wild Jimmy Taylor. Here's an FOTM. WJT. Here's a young cowboy who lives on the range. His horse and his cattle are his only companion. He works in the saddle and he sleeps in the canyon.
Starting point is 01:37:42 Waiting for summer, His pasture to change And as the moon rises He sits by his fire Thinking about women And glasses of beer Closing his eyes As the doggies retire He sings out a song
Starting point is 01:38:03 Which is soft but it's clear As if maybe someone could hear Can you guys name this FOTM? Rod Black. Is this Huxley Workman? Nope. Matthew Goode. Not an FOTM. The deep greens and blues are the colors I choose Won't you let me go down in my dreams Not an FOTM. It's not Ron Hawkins. Nope, not Ron Hawkins.
Starting point is 01:38:33 Good guess, though. Now the first of December Someone's guessed it in the chat. It's covered in snow So as the turnpike from Stockridge to Boston The Berkshires seem to dream like on the counter. Did you just record him in the shower? It sounds like this guy called you.
Starting point is 01:38:50 I have heard this gentleman sing this. What is this recording that we're listening to? Now it's bothering me. I don't know who it is. It's something that was recorded. Someone put it on YouTube of him doing this. Andy Kim. Gino Vanelli.
Starting point is 01:39:02 Moe Berg. You want a clue? Neil Osborne. Yes, a clue. Another member of this band was on Toronto Mic'd over the last 10 days. Oh, Danny Graves. Correctamundo. Okay, very good.
Starting point is 01:39:15 So Danny Graves. And they actually played, when I saw Watchmen open for the Tragically Hip, I think it was 03 at the Molson Amphitheater. Excuse me. They actually did play Sweet Baby James, and this is Danny doing it a cappella. The song sounds different somehow. I think he's got great vocals.
Starting point is 01:39:32 I think Danny Graves is a great singer. One of our country's finest vocalists of that era, for sure. Absolutely. Yeah, he likes, yes, absolutely. I'm seeing here, VP of Sales points out, Danny Graves likes to do an a cappella song. There you go. Three Martini Lunch by Graham Parker, Billy Bragg.
Starting point is 01:39:49 Yeah, and I think I heard Danny Graves and the aforementioned Ron Hawkins. Remember Adam Graves? Yeah, of course. And the Tinoilers. My brother knew Adam Graves' cousin or nephew. They were both Adam Graves. Did you babysit Adam Graves? That was Canada Kev, I think.
Starting point is 01:40:03 Babysat Adam Graves? That was Canada Kev, I think. Babysit Adam Graves. Anyway, I think I heard Danny do a Tom White song, The Ghost of Saturday or Heart of Saturday Night or something. Okay. I can't even, like, sorry, I can't even entertain you, Cam, because I know what jam is next from Stu's doing. I can't wait to fucking play it. Do you want to say anything?
Starting point is 01:40:18 Well, yeah, I do, actually. So, Mike, can you pull up the list of songs that we've played on the show before? I just want to clear something up. A massive spreadsheet. Okay. Stand by. I'm going to call up again.
Starting point is 01:40:30 Thank you to VP of Sales for maintaining. I love VP of Sales. Tireless. What a resource. Thank you. Honestly. And he was doing it in real time last. He might be doing it in real time this week.
Starting point is 01:40:40 But two weeks ago, he was doing it in real time. By the way, if anyone's looking for this, like where the hell is it? Just go to torontomike.com slash KOTJ and there's a big fat link to this thing and you guys can check it out too. There's a tab. Or a Spotify playlist. Yeah, done.
Starting point is 01:40:54 $49.99. Done. I'll send you the link. VPSLs is doing that. So I'm going to call up Pandemic Fridays. There's a bottom tab. What is the question, Stu Stone? So what is the band that have had the most songs
Starting point is 01:41:06 played? Okay, this is something that I can tell you right now. I'm looking at it right now. Number one is a band called... It's a tie. It's a tie. It's a tie between two bands? Well, more than two bands. Okay, so what is the tie?
Starting point is 01:41:22 It's six. Well, don't say one of the bands. Okay, it's six. And there say one of the bands. Okay. It's six. Okay. And there's one, two, three, four, five bands.
Starting point is 01:41:29 Five way tie for six place. Right. For like whatever band's going to claim the ultimate crown as most played on pandemic Fridays. Oh, it's not too late for me. Yes. So what,
Starting point is 01:41:38 it is too late. The picks are in. I can't change that. So please tell us what are those bands? Okay. Stu's cooking with Gus. This is wonderful. U2. U2. The Beatles. The Beatles I can't change that. So please tell us, what are those bands? Okay. Stu's cooking with Gus. This is wonderful. U2.
Starting point is 01:41:46 U2. The Beatles. The Beatles. Good band so far. Smashing Pumpkins. Great band. Nirvana. Nirvana.
Starting point is 01:41:54 And Toto. And Toto. Five-way tie. Wow. Did I say? Yeah, I think I misspoke earlier. Five-way tie. Yeah, we'll probably just end in a big tie.
Starting point is 01:42:02 Well, unfortunately for all of those other bands, only one band is going to take home the crown. Ladies and gentlemen, crank up the speakers. The most played band in the history of Pandemic Fridays. Is this Georgie Porgie again? He's not allowed to play Georgie Porgie. Toto has been played five times and I never played Africa. I noticed.
Starting point is 01:42:27 That's significant. Wow. Both Mike Wilner and Jim Van Horn have this as one of their favorite songs of all time. Wow. I'm going to watch Tyler update this in real time. It's already updated. Seven for Toto. It's the lead.
Starting point is 01:42:50 Guess what? That's about to change yet again. Well, I'll talk through this because we all know this song. But Toto is David Page, Bobby Kimball, Steve Lukather, Steve Peccaro, David Hungate, Jeff Peccaro, Lenny Castro, and on this song specifically, Timothy B. Schmidt, who is the singer of your favorite Eagles song. Yeah, Eagles, yeah, the
Starting point is 01:43:13 Yacht Rock song from the Eagles. Yes. Sorry, that's who's singing? No, no. He's just playing a 12-string guitar and doing backup vocals. Hey! Wow. It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you. There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do. This was number one in the country of Canada.
Starting point is 01:43:39 It was also number one in the United States. Ironically, not in Africa. What took you so long to kick out Africa? This isn't my favorite Toto song. So now let's blow some minds. We'll cut Africa short. And I want to talk about... Just cut out the entire content. Yeah, let's cut out
Starting point is 01:43:59 Africa short. Everybody knows that song. I want to blow your mind because I've been bragging about how these guys are real musical and I wanted to play a Toto song that you guys probably haven't heard and it's going to really hit you hard. These are like 19, 20 year old kids at the time left to their own devices like, here guys
Starting point is 01:44:15 go make a record and this is what they came back with and it's really advanced shit for a bunch of I really want you to check this out. Well, there's a lot longer build-up if you want to keep yakking. It's kind of spooky. I can tell you why this album
Starting point is 01:44:31 is one of the reasons... This song you're about to hear is one of the reasons why they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame right now. And we'll get to that right after this. Wow. That's quite the tease. Wow. That's quite the tease. I think you're going to really like this, Cam.
Starting point is 01:44:59 Sounds like prog rock. For sure. For sure. not fucking around that's like pretty good so far right yeah I'll tell you what happens They released this album
Starting point is 01:45:26 And Rolling Stone Trashed their first album And this album Rolling Stone said This is a good album But not as good as their first album So Toto was like
Starting point is 01:45:38 What the fuck You shit on our first album Like fuck you guys When Toto 4 came out Which is their big one With Africa and all that Rolling Stone offered them The cover of guys. When Toto 4 came out, which is their big one with Africa and all that, Rolling Stone offered them the cover of the magazine and Toto, check this out. How are these guys
Starting point is 01:45:49 not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Roger, Roger Dolce. Yeah, Rusty's not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Okay, so anyway, they refused the cover. They don't want to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. Wow. And the head of Rolling Stone is the head of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Okay, so anyway, they refused the cover. They don't want to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. Wow. And the head of Rolling Stone is the head of the rock and roll hall of fame. Yeah, Jan Wiener.
Starting point is 01:46:09 Until he dies, these guys aren't going to get in because there's a beef that's gone on for 40 years. Wow. That's so stupid. So, yeah, but this is a really cool song from an album called Hydra, which is an experimental album of sorts, but it's so good. Wait, so that's like late 70s? It's late 70s. It's in between their first, you know, the song. This is the in-between one. We played the song
Starting point is 01:46:32 99 from this album, but this album did pretty well in Canada. Number 10. Not so great in America. Number 37. But it didn't stop them from getting more shit going. But I love this song, and there's a really cool part that I want you to hear. Which is
Starting point is 01:46:50 after this. You can bump this shit. So Cam and I could totally cover this. It sounds like just high school kids, like the vocals. The vocals maybe. The vocals aren't the school kids like the vocals it's like not the vocals maybe yeah the vocals aren't
Starting point is 01:47:06 the selling feature the vocals are just like yeah just sounds like whatever high school kids wrote it you know but the cool musical parts
Starting point is 01:47:14 coming up after this imagine you guys started a band called Pandemic Friday we should Pandemic Friday and that became the the aftermath check this
Starting point is 01:47:20 this is the part I really dig this is Lukather's it's just really... I mean, we've got to see them live, Cam. I feel like they were going to tour before the pandemic. So anyway, Toto is now the most played band on Pandemic Friday. That's true. So I'm a lot happier now.
Starting point is 01:47:52 But here's a good question. So you kicked out every Toto jam. No, I didn't. Yeah. There's plenty more. No, I meant of the seven jams. Oh, yeah, sure. They're all two songs.
Starting point is 01:48:00 Sure, sure, sure. So the question being asked in the chat, Canada Kev is asking, which band has the most diverse voting block? Oh, interesting. It's like, what's the band with the most... Probably Smashing Pumpkins. All three of us have kicked one out. Smashing Pumpkins, probably.
Starting point is 01:48:11 Have I kicked out of Pumpkins? That sounds right. Because Cam's pretty heavy on the Pumpkins, if I review the history. But maybe VP of Sales can check into this. What band has been kicked out the most time where all three of us have kicked out the band? I would be curious to know that for sure. I would out the most time where all three of us have kicked out the band? I would be curious to know that.
Starting point is 01:48:26 I would say the most obscure band that multiple people have kicked out might be Serial Joe. Because, Mike, I feel like you and I. Well, there's also Rhymes with Orange. Like, Toto is to Stu as Rhymes with Orange. Right. Yeah, that might be. We're going to find out. A question for Stu.
Starting point is 01:48:42 DPSL is on the fucking case. Love this guy. Stu, I think I asked you this question in an earlier episode. We were listening to find out. A question for Stu. DPSL is on the fucking case. Love this guy. Stu, I think I asked you this question in an earlier episode. We were listening to Toto. Toto comes to town, solo headlining show at the amphitheater. Does it sell out? I think it probably does because I saw them do that at the Hollywood Bowl. They will draw a crowd.
Starting point is 01:49:01 I feel like, especially post-pandemic, I feel like that sells out. But they're also more strategic about it. They wouldn't just tour like that. They'd team up with Toto and Michael McDonald. Right. Or Toto and Kenny Loggins. Or Toto and the Doobie Brothers. Or Boz.
Starting point is 01:49:17 A little team with somebody because it'll just be more of a fun thing. They're probably in their, what, 70s now? 60s. 60s? Okay, well, there you go. Mark Wiseblood from 1236 has a bonus mind blow here. Ooh. I know that voice.
Starting point is 01:49:37 Oh, that's Michael McDonald. Absolutely. Singing I Just Want to Stop. Yep, so he's covering, this is Michael McDonald covering Epoch, MGM, Geno, Vanelli. By the way, I Just Want to Stop Yep So he's covering This is Michael McDonald Covering By the way I Just Want to Stop
Starting point is 01:49:47 Is very Yacht Rock Yes I agree And it's a big hit That made the list Top five I think On the billboard And Wow
Starting point is 01:49:55 This is from 2021 This is recent Someone just brought up Radiohead has been played once Since Toto seven times Radiohead's my favorite band I know And I'm probably the one that played them.
Starting point is 01:50:07 I can find out who played them. Actually, I'm not... I just wanna stop. Hey! Tell you how I feel about you, babe. I just wanna stop. Yeah, I know. Definitely a Yacht Rock hit from Gino Vanelli,
Starting point is 01:50:23 without a doubt here. Good stuff. Thanks for the findelli, without a doubt, here. Good stuff. Thanks for the find there, Mr. Wise Blot. I promise you, solemnly promise you, that that's the last Toto song that I will play. There's no more Toto coming up. There's no Toto next week. Toto is out of your life, just like Pandemic Friday.
Starting point is 01:50:41 I need to thank some partners of the program that have helped fuel the real talk. StickerU.com. Yes. Great guys. They really are. And again, you know. The dad drives around with the sticker mobile.
Starting point is 01:50:52 The dad drives the sticker mobile. Yeah. The son, Andrew Witkin, started this company. I got to get some stickers from him. They're based in Liberty Village. Yeah. Purple Onion. What support from those guys.
Starting point is 01:51:02 So please support them and thank them for. Is their store open right now? I don't have an answer to that question. We should make some stickers. Yeah, that's right. I saw Cam at the Grand Open. Oh, yeah, there's photos. How about we make stickers like,
Starting point is 01:51:12 I survived pandemic Fridays and give them to people? Honestly, that's exactly. You create the image and then you upload it at stickeru.com. So why don't you do that? It's too much for me to do. We'll pay you back. We'll totally do that for sure. They're the quality stickers too.
Starting point is 01:51:23 I survived pandemic Friday. Then we stick them on people's arm like the vaccine yeah like temporary tattoos kick me in the face Mimico Mike Mike Majewski ripping up the Mimico
Starting point is 01:51:34 real estate scene he's in the know in Mimico go to realestatelove.ca I definitely kicked out Radiohead by the way guys stop arguing I will I'll look it up in a second
Starting point is 01:51:42 I do want to thank McKay CEO forums they have the CEO Edge podcast, fireside chats with inspiring CEOs and thought leaders. I share a new episode every Wednesday. That's tomorrow. And I urge FOTMs to dive in and give it a go. I'm going to just do the quick radio.
Starting point is 01:51:59 Now that the freezing has gone down, I can say, Stinger! Luger! Okay, Paranoid Android was one of the big shiny jams. Yeah, I'd kick that out. You sure? For sure.
Starting point is 01:52:12 Because I said, oh, when I was on Cam's podcast, what album did I kick out? And he was like, Radiohead. But, parentheses jams, Street Spirit, Fade Out. Also Stew Stone. Okay, so there's a couple of Radiohead jams that were kicked out. Mike, before we leave this topic, can I make a confession? Yeah, please. Next Monday,
Starting point is 01:52:30 we're recording... Stinger! The last episode of Pandemic Fridays. Stinger. Not Stinger. Dinger. This is going to be like... Who's that guy? Luger! Okay. Next Friday, we're going to be doing our final episode, right? Yep.
Starting point is 01:52:48 It's called Goodbye, Farewell, Amen. That's right. On the Monday before, I'm actually going to be guesting on another podcast. Oh, fuck, Cam. Talking about Radiohead. And this is a podcast. Will you be plugging Pandemic Fridays? I will.
Starting point is 01:53:01 No, it's a podcast hosted by two people. One of the person is the editor of manure canada magazine which is a trade publication about horse shit or cow shit right cow shit yeah common agricultural she used to be the editor of media in canada and she asked me if i'd be on her podcast because they were looking for like are they gonna give you a fucking lasagna and craft beer no i don't think there's going to be anything. I just wanted to put it out there. I didn't want you to be surprised. I had to be blindsided
Starting point is 01:53:30 by Stu Stone appearing on Taddy and the Westworld. Stinger! What are you doing there with the stinger? That's just Ric Flair saying stinger. Oh, I didn't know. Because I thought you were doing the guy who yelled out dinger. No, no, no. Are you crazy? You can say dinger. Stinger's not an offensive word.
Starting point is 01:53:45 No, I'm saying Stinger like Ric Flair talking about Sting. Okay, but Dinger is not an offensive word. Cutting a promo. There's no problem saying Dinger. My best friend. Woo, woo, woo, woo. The mascot's name is Dinger.
Starting point is 01:53:58 Like home run Dinger. Yeah, I know. Okay, I just want to clarify. Is that matter done? Yes. I hope they apologize to the guy. I'm catching up now. I see now.
Starting point is 01:54:10 Joker Rory wanted you to do your Luger or whatever. I'm catching up now. I hate your guts. All right. I'm just checking in on some other chatter on the live chat. So Stu kicked out Paranoid Android. We already figured that out. Stu played Street. We figured that out.
Starting point is 01:54:30 I just want to see if we got an answer to which artist was kicked out the most. I would say it's got to be Smashing Pumpkins because I for sure kicked one out. You did and Cam kicked out one of their work on Street. Or like Beck. I never kicked out Beck. I never kicked out Beck. I never kicked out Beck,
Starting point is 01:54:45 so it has to be some of the three of us all kicked out. Did we all kick out Tragically Hip by any chance? Probably not. I don't think so. Okay. I know I did a few times. I think it's Pumpkins, man. I'm telling you.
Starting point is 01:54:54 How about Weezer? Maybe. Weezer seems like a candidate. Weezer! Okay, so VP of Sales has a confession. He won't have the answer during this episode, Okay, so VP of sales has a confession. He won't have the answer during this episode. But VP, when you jump on the fourth mic next Friday for TMLX8,
Starting point is 01:55:12 give us the answer. Could you run a macro? He's going to give us the answer next week. We'll give him a little bit of time on this. You guys, we're down to our last jams in the penultimate episode of Pandemic Friday. It's all winding down right now. That's wild. The long and winding road. Which I also kicked out. It's all winding down right now. That's wild. The long and winding road. Which I also kicked out.
Starting point is 01:55:27 That's true. Did we all kick out a Beatles song? Okay. All right. Beatles are a good band. Cam, do you want to say any words before I kick out your final jam? This one is a message song goes out to all the FOTMs. And you're going to miss this backyard?
Starting point is 01:55:41 This is it, buddy. I don't want to see you at this fucking house again. Yeah, no, for sure. I'll call the fucking cops if I see you back here. No, like, I mean, kidding aside, for months, this was the only time I would leave the house every month. Right. If it wasn't something family related. So yeah, of course I'll miss it. Many good memories.
Starting point is 01:55:58 Is it going to be Kidio? No. Rod Stewart downtown. Will I see you today? Oh. Again, same song. Wow. It really is.
Starting point is 01:56:14 Sure. Which is that... Wow. Wow. I had a dream that I'm your hero. Beverly Hills, that out 2-0. Coming up next. Have you ever played this song?
Starting point is 01:56:35 Please look that up, Mike. I'm pretty sure I searched it because I thought we had to. It sounds like a song we would have heard. Yeah. I had a dream I was your hero. Damn! I used to sing Cam, I Wish I Was Your Lover. We can make that happen.
Starting point is 01:56:55 MF is in Washington. She's watching. Come on. Keep it on the down low. Shout out to MF. Little Ed Zeppelin. Ryman Nance stealing. When the levee breaks.
Starting point is 01:57:17 Okay. Sophie B. Hawkins. Wow, Jays are losing 7-1. Go ahead. March of 92. Damn, I wish I was your lover. Hawkins. Wow, Jays are losing 7-1. Go ahead. March of 92. Not so good, Al. Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover. The song went to number five in both the U.S. and Canada.
Starting point is 01:57:32 So, decent-sized hit. Yeah. Am I the only one... I have the cassette single. ...who didn't realize this song she was actually speaking about to another woman, I Wish I Was Your Lover. Oh, I didn't know that. I didn't know that until right now.
Starting point is 01:57:45 So it says the song's lyrics are written from the perspective of a woman who is observing another woman in an abusive relationship. Her partner has her, quote unquote, chained up in a, quote unquote, twisted cage. And the narrator is having a difficult time seeing her, quote unquote, black and blue. The narrator's dream is to rescue the abused woman make her happy take away her pain and being physically intimate with her changes everything it's not like wikipedia like this is very specific uh hawkins has explicitly stated that she is what she terms omnisexual which means that lover's gender does not matter to her I feel like there's a different term for that these days, but this was back in the 90s. Fluid?
Starting point is 01:58:26 Yeah, or pansexual. Yeah, pansexual, I think. Rumors that Sophie B. Hawkins has dated both Martina Navratilova. Wow. And also Jodie Foster. Wow. In both cases, Sophie B. Hawkins has denied that. If you said Melissa Etheridge, I'd be like, that's the Mount Rushmore.
Starting point is 01:58:44 Yeah, I mean, those are some big gets. I was thinking she was a one-hit wonder, but there was actually a song called As I Lay Me Down. And I listened to that, and I'm like, I do know this song. And that song was actually a pretty big hit. It went to number six in the U.S. and it came up from an album called
Starting point is 01:59:00 Whaler. Shout out to the Mono Whales. As well as Ron Francis, Arlie Zalatsky, all the great Hartford Whalers. Bob Marley, right, the Whalers. Hey, just quickly, really quickly, Dan J
Starting point is 01:59:16 always heard this song. Dan, I wish I was your lover. Maybe it is. Dan Seals. It was like the Peach Pit They played this song This was on 90210 for sure Or Melrose Place
Starting point is 01:59:29 Couple more fun facts About Sophie B. Hawkins We've talked a lot about Our friend Rosie Any relation to Kogo Beware We've talked a lot about Rosie Gratio Stu's funny.
Starting point is 01:59:45 Can I just say it? Stu's funny. Oh, you're going to miss him. Stu's not on a pandemic Friday. Have you noticed the laughter goes way down? You're going to miss me when I'm gone. The music in formation goes way up, but the laughter goes way down. He's a child.
Starting point is 01:59:58 You don't know what you've got to report on. Okay, I'll give the update. In my life, I have never missed a soccer game by one of my kids in my entire life. So why'd you miss it today? Because there was nowhere else to move this episode. Oh, there you are. Hello. Okay, Jarvis, I need to know.
Starting point is 02:00:12 Come here. Come on this mic right now. I need to know if you scored a goal. Come on over here. Talk to this microphone. This is important. Breaking news, Jarvis. Look at that poker face.
Starting point is 02:00:19 I'm scared. Talk. No, don't be scared. Oh, my God. Okay, go right in front of that and Tell the world how you did today in soccer. How did you do? Tell them. I just don't know how to tell you.
Starting point is 02:00:29 Just tell me. Did you score a goal? Yes. What? Whoa. You got a goal today. Yes. What kind of goal?
Starting point is 02:00:35 Two goals. Two goals. In one round. Whoa. It got messy over here. My first turn in the whole entire game. Whoa. Your first shot on net?
Starting point is 02:00:44 No, like my first. It was my first turn in the whole entire game. So you got two goals. Huge. Oh, look at this. We got a Tom Brady moment happening here. There you go.
Starting point is 02:00:59 What a cute guy. Listen, man. Congratulations, man. I'm very proud of you. Congratulations, man. That's great. It, man. Congratulations, man. I'm very proud of you. Stu wants to say congratulations. Congratulations, man. That's great. That's great. Morgan got her first ever life goal. First goal ever of her life. Everybody's scoring. Maybe Mike will score tonight.
Starting point is 02:01:15 Babe, am I going to score tonight? She shrugged. The odds are looking very good. Maybe twice. I told her, there's not much time left that I'll be sleeping with a 30-something. You know what I mean? There's not a lot of time left. Take advantage.
Starting point is 02:01:29 Soon I'll be sleeping with a 40-something. Nice job, Jarvis. I am sad, though, because I've never missed a game. First Jarvis game I missed and never missed a soccer game. He scored twice. You know, I once scored a hat-trick playing hockey, and I looked over, and you know who wasn't there either? My dad.
Starting point is 02:01:44 So me and Jarvis have a lot in common. The stories I could tell. I'm in the same boat here. But let's move on here on this solemn note. So that's Cam's final gem? I'm going to try this one more time. Wikipedia. Focus. Something about Sophie B. Hawkins. Sophie B. Hawkins seems to be one of these artists. Maybe someone her camp goes in edits it it's a very detailed wikipedia entry okay there's a lot of stuff from like 2019 when she's up to 2020 etc etc something that's in there she actually did a re-recorded version of the song in 2008 okay why don't we give that a spin oh my god
Starting point is 02:02:40 in 08 that's a key part of this story yikes not 2016 08. That's a key part of this story. Yikes. Not 2016. 08. Reworked lyrics. Yikes. Aged like milk.
Starting point is 02:03:00 Oh God. This is like high school fucking play bad. Yeah. Good find, though. Well done. It's pretty awful. I was surprised it's on YouTube. Yes, damn. I wish you were our president in support of Hillary Clinton's run for the nomination of the Democratic Party that she eventually lost out to.
Starting point is 02:03:21 Barack Obama. Barry O. B.O. Lost out to Barack Obama. Barry O. B.O. There's a three-part documentary series on HBO that I've bookmarked to check out about Barack Obama. About Sophie B. Hawkins?
Starting point is 02:03:33 Yeah. About Sophie B. Hawkins. Yeah, but this is not great. Not so good, Al. I gotta say, I love the original. This version is weak. Trash. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:03:45 Fit for the pit. I love it. Shout This version is weak. Yeah. Fit for the pit. I love it. Shout out to Street Sense. Yeah, it's fit for both pits, actually. Now, a pun for the review. One pit starred Jonathan Torrens. The other one starred Stu Stilton. There you go.
Starting point is 02:03:59 All right, guys. My final jam. That was smooth. Penultimate episode of Pandemic Friday. Wow, you almost cried there. Well, Jarvis got two goals tonight. You caught me in a very emotional moment. I wish I was your brother.
Starting point is 02:04:13 Two goals. You don't have a brother. And I wasn't there. I could be your brother. Sorry about your son's score. Would you ease my pain? Now I see why you want to cancel the show. You should spend more time with your kids.
Starting point is 02:04:24 Let's ease Mike's pain. Ease my pain. Can you see why you want to cancel the show. You should spend more time with your kids. Let's ease Mike's pain. Ease my pain. Can you ease my pain? Ooh, wow. We didn't play this when we did... I see trees of green. I think we did. Red roses too.
Starting point is 02:04:39 I want to look that up. I see them bloom. For me and you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world. Yeah, we didn't play it. In honor of Paul Orndorff. Oh, man, this is so good. I see skies of blue.
Starting point is 02:05:02 Beautiful song. And clouds of white. The bright blessed day. Beautiful song. The colors of the rainbow This one was a no-brainer for me, guys. Is this going to be the longest episode we've ever done? No, it's not that long. We've done much longer. I like you end with this. I end with damn, I wish I was your lover.
Starting point is 02:05:42 All right, so we've had a lot of jokes about me working at the C&E, but I did work there three summers as a teenager. And my game booth, Papa Ball, was right across the expressway from the Polar Express. And every night you'd have to close up your booth and everything. So every night the last song that the Polar Express would play, this was every single night of the three song that the Polar Express would play, this was every single night of the three years
Starting point is 02:06:06 I worked at the C&E, is they played What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. Oh. Do you have like a Pavlovian reaction to hearing it?
Starting point is 02:06:14 Yeah, pretty much. And it was always this night like this. It was always dark and quiet and the crowd had gone home and you would
Starting point is 02:06:20 be alone with Louis. That's very cool. What a wonderful way to love it. This song's from
Starting point is 02:06:39 67. And it was a hit in the UK, but was not a hit in the USA. It performed very poorly in the United States. They say that the president of ABC Records disliked it. His name was Larry Newton, and he refused to promote that song. He didn't like it, so it did not chart in the USA. It's a piece of shit. But in 1988, so now we're almost 21 years later here,
Starting point is 02:07:03 a little movie by Robin Williams came out called Good Morning Vietnam of course and this song by Louis Armstrong called What a Wonderful World was on the soundtrack and was re-released as a single you said that was in 1998 it would have been 1988
Starting point is 02:07:19 did I say that? I think you said 88 absolutely 88 it went to number 32 so it was the biggest hit Did I say that? I thought I said it. No, I think you said 88. I said 88. Yeah. Absolutely 88. It went to number 32. So it was the biggest hit. It was its biggest hit in 88, not 67. By the way, here's a fun fact,
Starting point is 02:07:35 a little bit of a mind blow, if you will, is that Good Morning Vietnam takes place in 1965, two years before this song existed. So it's an anachronism. Is that the term? I remember doing a project, the late, great Mr. Bowles. Do you remember him?
Starting point is 02:07:50 Of course. He passed away this year. Legend. I did a project on the movie The Babe. Remember? Like, hey, The Babe's all out of gas. Sorry, kid. Is this a John Goodman?
Starting point is 02:07:58 Yes. Pull my finger. Sorry, kid. The Babe's all out of gas. Throat cancer? Is that what that means? Anyway, my point is that they have the one where he calls his shot, right? Michael Douglas. Sure.
Starting point is 02:08:08 He calls his shot. So I got an A on this project because I broke down the scene, and I'm like, they've got cameras filming it. They had camera guys filming it, and there's no actual video of this happening. So how could there have been cameras there? And I got an A. Wow.
Starting point is 02:08:23 And is that true? I mean, I don't know. That's just what I said. You kind of like broke it down. Okay. I've definitely seen the image of Babe calling his shot there. Yeah, this is the, oh, yesterday. I think yesterday was the anniversary of Babe's death, Babe Ruth's death.
Starting point is 02:08:35 By the way, did you mention that movie with Peter Gross this morning too? Am I imagining it? Yeah, no, I did. You're right. This is the second episode today that referenced What a Wonderful World. From a movie that came out 32 years ago. Yeah, it, it did. You're right. This is the second episode today that referenced What a Wonderful World. From a movie that came out 32 years ago. Yeah, it totally did. Now, I'm going to play a little Mind Blow,
Starting point is 02:08:49 and I'm going to look Stu in the eyes. Where are those beautiful eyes? I can't see you, but okay. Okay, I'm here. It's baby blue. You know what direction to look at. I can see your eyes because there's a reflection coming off your device there. Stu, my Mind Blow is dedicated to you.
Starting point is 02:09:01 Okay. I'm playing this for you. It has been an absolute pleasure to share the stage with you almost every week for the last 75 weeks. You are the true star of Pandemic Friday. Cam and I are just sort of here to guide things along. I'm right here. It's too stone-shelved.
Starting point is 02:09:21 I dedicate this particular mind blow to the one and only Stu Stone. Imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people living for today Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do
Starting point is 02:10:34 Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too. Imagine all the people Living life in peace With skies of blue and clouds of white. Remix! What a wonderful world The colors of the rainbow I know what Barbra Streisand means to you, Stu. What does she mean to me?
Starting point is 02:11:39 A great deal. A great fucking deal. She goes into free bird next. I hope so. Yeah, this blend it's mind-blowing blend of course i appreciate that mike that was nice so we have a blend of john lennon's imagine which never did get kicked out i guess we're all you know that would be like a baby boomer thing i never need to imagine i know that's a boomer thing it's fine but also of course what a
Starting point is 02:12:01 wonderful world uh shout out to Babs. There you go. Christian Babs, Frank. Before, Mike, I play out my final jam. I want to get a gauge of who's still with us in the chat room because I want to shout them out to you. So please press one. Show hands. Please press one if you're still with us watching live so that I can see who's here
Starting point is 02:12:22 because I'm going to do a long-distance dedication. All right. Remember, they're on a bit of a delay. That's fine. Let's say not sing along. But before I dedicate to... Oh, here we go. Oh, there we go.
Starting point is 02:12:33 Moose Grumpy, Cambrio, VP of Sales, Jokeroru, Steve, YYZ Gord. Yeah, so... And I hope all of those people, or as many of them as can geographically do it, drop by next week. I look forward to seeing them all, should I appear. I would love to see all of them. And Mike, first of all, it's been a pleasure to do this show for all of you guys. And to Mike, thank you for giving a platform to myself and my old high school buddy, Cam, to reunite and have fun. Sometimes at your expense, sometimes at our own expense.
Starting point is 02:13:07 Sometimes at Bojana's expense, but either way, it was always fun. I feel like you're setting up Coming Out of Our Shells. I'm not setting up Coming Out of Our Shells. I really had a great time doing this. I wish it didn't end, but I guess... Cable Guy Jeff, that's your bud, right? Yeah, that's my bud.
Starting point is 02:13:21 Real quick, in the middle of this emotional speech, I do want to grant a wish. Stinger! speech I do want to grant a wish Stinger! but I do love you guys it was a pleasure looking forward next week to kicking out a few jams which will be the concluding jams I guess there will still be a few more jams to enter
Starting point is 02:13:39 and it won't be our normal four each just like a smattering of jams the bulk of next week's episode is the fourth mic. Sure. Where people like. But there will be a few jams kicked. So an opportunity to hear a couple more songs. Farewell jams.
Starting point is 02:13:51 Without the schmaltz that comes along. Like no fun facts and stuff like that. No, no, no. It's all about our fourth mic next week. It's about the dialogue. The dialogue. Tell us how much you love us. Really a great ride.
Starting point is 02:14:04 And I think the people that pushed one that are still in the chat room dialogue the dialogue but tell us how much you love us really a great a really a great ride and i think the people that pushed one that are still in the chat room were watching with us right now as we close out the final pandemic friday from mike's backyard the final pandemic friday that's not the final final final uh i want to say that uh this is a song that's that they're gonna get it they're gonna really appreciate this there's a reason to play this song last because this is a song that they're going to get it. They're going to really appreciate this. There's a reason to play this song last because this is a band that has been a part of us, a part of our story, a part of our
Starting point is 02:14:32 heritage. And it's a beautiful song. And I love you guys. And I love all the listeners and all the friends of Stew Stone and the friends of Toronto Mike. And all the special guests. Sure. Mike's kids,
Starting point is 02:14:46 Mike's neighbors, uh, the long drives that I made to come here, the storms that we were in, the nudity that was caused, uh, the various different, uh,
Starting point is 02:14:55 times of day to, to get here, which is not that convenient to get here, but we did it. And, uh, congratulations to you, Mike,
Starting point is 02:15:02 on 903 episodes of this program it was an honor to be on 800 of them and I dedicate this one to my friends Toronto Mike Cam and to all the listeners and a perfect way to close out Pandemic Friday When you have no light to guide you And no one to walk beside you
Starting point is 02:15:30 I will come to you, oh, come to you When the night is dark and stormy You won't have to reach out for me I will come to you, oh Come to you, oh Sometimes when all your dreams may have seen better days When you don't know how or why But you've lost your way. And I feel when your tears are falling, I will hear your spirit calling.
Starting point is 02:16:13 And I swear that I'll be there, come with me. When you have my life to guide you, and I want to walk beside you, Just a perfect way to close out Pandemic Fridays, Mike, is to play the great Hanson. I was going to say, who is that? Isaac, Zack, and Taylor Hanson. Not Hanson any longer. We all got Hanson. We all got Hanson. I was going to say, who is that? Isaac, Zach, and Taylor Hanson. Not Hanson any longer. We all got Hanson. We all got Hanson.
Starting point is 02:16:50 Sing along, guys. This is a good song. I miss you guys already. I hope to see you guys next week for the finale finale. But fitting to end it with Hanson, Mike. I think that works. People seem to dig it. Beck says it's perfect ending.
Starting point is 02:17:22 And Canada Kev says Hanson for the win. And Quebec Irish boy, who's making a very long drive to be there next Friday. He's bringing Double D. And he says we'll miss our weekly get togethers. And well, they're wondering how many Pandemic Friday episodes were actually recorded on a Friday. And YYZ thinks like it's probably less than half. I'm here to tell you it's way less than half. I do
Starting point is 02:17:50 love the very last episode is on a Friday. It might be the... I bet you there's less than 10 episodes that were recorded on a Friday. I think that's... I feel like we switched very quickly. And that's 76 episodes, but the bulk of the episodes were recorded on a Thursday. That was our set night.
Starting point is 02:18:05 God, it seems like we used to do them in the broad daylight. Yeah, I think we would do them early on. We just did them. Yeah, Cam would like... Oh, can I shout someone else out? Take a long lunch. And a lot of this I'll be doing again next Friday. But I want to shout out Ian Service.
Starting point is 02:18:20 Because remember, we didn't have a place to happen for live streaming. Tim's the man. Because Facebook kept fucking with us and YouTube and then Ian Service stepped up, not only hosting this fine audio but he basically built something where we could live stream with songs from Hanson
Starting point is 02:18:38 and Beatles and you name it. I remember when they DMCA'd Simply Red, that was the last straw. And like, we can't do Simply Red. That was the last straw. And like, we can't do this anymore. If you don't know me by now, you'll never, never know me. So live.torontomike.com exists for Pandemic Friday.
Starting point is 02:18:55 Look at it. It's functional. I know. Take us home, Hanson. I'm going to you. Oh, I'm going to you. Take us home, Hanson. I love you guys. Lovers and other strangers. And that!
Starting point is 02:19:18 And that! That's sad, Mike. Next week when I say and that, people are going to cry. People are going to cry when I say and that. If I show up next week. If you do that, you need to do it at 830 sharp. Clear the patio by then.
Starting point is 02:19:35 That's Luger and that. Woo, woo. And that. That concludes Pandemic Fridays at Mike's house. Bye, Jarvis. I'll see you when you're older. And that. And that.
Starting point is 02:19:54 There you go. Give us that. And that. I don't do it. This is your thing. And that. And that brings us to the end of our 903rd show and 75th Pandemic Friday. This is the last time chatting here, they're saying.
Starting point is 02:20:14 You know, that's true. That's your fault, Mike. You should get like a big screen. Well, you never know, guys. Don't unbookmark the page just yet. We'll just leave you with that. The reunion tour for the next pandemic. Don't write checks your butt can't cash, Stewstone.
Starting point is 02:20:33 There you go. You can follow me on Twitter. You can follow me on Twitter. I'm at Toronto Mike. Stew is at Stewstone. Yes. Cam is at Cam underscore Gordon. Our friends at Great Lakes Brewery.
Starting point is 02:20:46 Good friends. We're going to be there next Friday. Maybe I will, but these guys will be there for sure. And they're going to buy you your first pour of fresh craft beer. That's amazing. I might have to get a ride. They own the place. That's amazing.
Starting point is 02:20:57 They're at Great Lakes Beer. McKay's CEO Forums are at McKay's CEO Forums. Palma Pasta. Honestly, the negotiations, the work behind the scenes to feed all these FOTMs. It's like Woodstock, man. It's hungry FOTMs. And you know what fell out of favor due to COVID is the old buffet style. We used to just throw everything on a table.
Starting point is 02:21:17 Slabs of food. Yeah. Like now you have to like change it up to be safer. So Palma Pasta is coming through at Palma Pasta. Sticker U is at Sticker U. Ridley Funeral Home. Can't wait to see Brad next week. He's at RidleyFH.
Starting point is 02:21:31 And Mike Majeski, he's not on Twitter. He's on Instagram. At Majeski Group Homes. Oh, there will be a chat room next week, I guess. People can be in the chat. I actually wasn't going to bring the cameras. Oh, you should. The Wi-Fi's bad there.
Starting point is 02:21:44 Oh, is it? I need really good Wi-Fi. It's a bit of a schlep. I was going to make it audio only, unless you're in attendance, unfortunately. Conditional. On that note. And that. See you next Friday. This podcast has been produced by TMDS and accelerated by Rome Phone.
