I just wanted to congratulate you on the successful show. It's great to listen to you and it's great to hear your listeners kick out their jams and their honest expressions. And it's wonderful to hear. My first jam is one by U2 and Mary J. Blige. While the original was a hit during our time in high school, this updated version for me is incredibly soulful and a favorite.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Mary J. just really, you can hear her singing out loud as we would at concerts, except she's just much better at it. So I hope you enjoy it, and I hope everyone is well. And stay safe, And again, thanks. Love is a higher law You ask for me to enter But then you make me crawl And I can't keep holding on To what you've got Cause all you got is hurt One love

Starting point is 00:06:38 And I just can't look It's killing me I'm taking control Jealousy Turning saints into deceit Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibis But it's just the price I pay
Starting point is 00:07:11 Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes Cause I'm Mr. Brightside Hi Mike, this is Colleen. The song I have chosen is Mr. Brightside by The Killers. I saw The Killers live at the end of a conference last year in Las Vegas. I really enjoyed their show and in particular this song. A few weeks later, one of my fitness class instructors played an 8 minute version during one of our classes
Starting point is 00:07:44 for an awesome cardio blast workout. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks very much. in my head but she's touching his chest now he takes off her dress now let me go cause I just can't look it's killing me and taking

Starting point is 00:10:26 Voilà le discours d'un garçon qui mourait d'amour Pour une demoiselle qui dormait tout le long du jour Retourne au sol, retourne au sol Vers le soleil, tourne le col Hey Toronto Mike, thank you for putting out these jams. They make us all think and feel good. Speaking of feel good, a feel good track that I first heard on your podcast was Le Tournesol by Nana Muscuri, which is my jam today. It's catchy, kitschy, and lively, but the real reason why it puts a spring in your step is because of the feel good factor. We saw this on episode 316. So impressed was the Spoon's Gordon Deppie that he wanted to go to camp and
Starting point is 00:11:27 learn French. Mike, in a rare attempt to go for a double shot, I'd really love it if following Nana, if you could also play Old Emotions by the Spoons. Thanks for this, thanks for everything, and please be safe. Le tournesol n'a pas besoin d'une boussole Ni d'arc-en-ciel, ni d'arc-en-ciel Pour se tourner vers le soleil guitar solo You smiled upon me a perfume From a girl you knew long ago On a holiday weekend And you know On a holiday weekend Oh-ho
Starting point is 00:13:07 Oh-ho And you know That you're there once more In some forgotten story From your private library Of things That you remember Then it comes back again Those old emotions And it comes back again Those old emotions
Starting point is 00:13:47 And it brings back And it brings back Those old emotions There's a taste in the sea air And the gulls cry overhead You walk into the wet sand And you know That you're there once more
Starting point is 00:14:36 In some forgotten story From your private library Of things That you remember Then it comes back again Those old emotions And it brings back And it brings back
Starting point is 00:15:03 Those old emotions Then it comes back again Those old emotions And it brings back And it brings back Those old emotions Then it comes back again Then it comes back again Those old emotions Oh! Skin is cold, she's white She's a dark angel
Starting point is 00:16:26 Dark glasses Dark shadows And a lot of false lashes Hey! The light exposes the cracks She wears her makeup like wax. To hide her scratch. She's a dark angel on dark horses. Set in the dim, dim-lit corners. Hi Mike, Kevin in Alberta here again and what I'd like to do this time is a little FOTM inception if I could
Starting point is 00:17:21 this one goes back to being a kid listening on my clock radio in my room to 680 CFTR, and this song is one of the ones that they would play over and over again. The song just kind of sticks in your head. You all know the hook. Da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Starting point is 00:17:38 Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na This is, of course, Gino Vanelli with Black Cars. Can we get off Black Cars? My God. She cuts a perfect silhouette. But she's a dog in your world.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Darker glasses. A feeling beauty as the night time passes. I say Black cars Look better in the shade Black cars Black cars Look better in the shade Black cars
Starting point is 00:18:33 Black cars Black cars Look better in the Black cars Black cars, black cars Black cars Look better in the Hey!
Starting point is 00:18:51 Say Say, say Yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ghostbusters! If there's something strange In your neighborhood Who you gonna call? If it's something weird And it don't look good
Starting point is 00:19:42 Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! I ain't afraid of no ghost I ain't afraid of no ghost If you're seeing things Running through your head Who can you call? Ghostbusters! An invisible man Sleeping in your bed
Starting point is 00:20:23 Oh, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! I ain't afraid of no ghost. I ain't afraid of no ghost. I ain't afraid of no ghost Hi Toronto Mike, it's Nolan and I'm gonna pick the Ghostbusters song and who it's by is Ray Parker Jr. and in the movie I like when someone says
Starting point is 00:21:05 what did you do Ray? Thank you bye I'm afraid of no goose yeah yeah yeah yeah who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! If you've had a dose of a freaky ghost, baby
Starting point is 00:21:31 You better call Ghostbusters! Hey! Let me tell you something Bustin' makes me feel good I ain't afraid of no ghost I ain't afraid of no ghost Don't get caught alone, oh no Ghostbusters When it comes through your door
Starting point is 00:22:18 Unless you just want some more I think you better call Ghostbusters Who you gonna call call Ghostbusters Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters I think you better call
Starting point is 00:22:34 Ghostbusters Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters I can't hear you Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters Louder Ghostbusters! Louder!
Starting point is 00:22:48 Ghostbusters! Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! Who can you call? Ghostbusters! Who you gonna call? guitar solo Drop my truck, make way to the motorway station Fairlady's coming, I'm on the left-hand side We'll be right back. Meet my radio truck and I'll do the night Three, five, seven, nine, I'm coming wildin'
Starting point is 00:23:48 Put away some, coming up with the morning light Whiskey sitting pretty in a two-wheeled stallion This old centaur's already got a beat on you Ain't no use sitting up with a bad companion Ain't nobody got the better of you, no boo. 2, 4, 6, 8, it's never too late. Me and my radio working on through the night. 3, 5, 7, 9, I'm on the white line.
Starting point is 00:24:19 It's ain't no waterway sun coming out for the morning light. Hi there, it's Rick. And for this week, the song I'm picking is 2468 Motorway by the Tom Robinson Band. It's a great road trip song, and I hope to be taking some road trips in the near future. Enjoy. Enjoy. Choose to lose the two of us Ain't nobody know when you're acting right or wrong No one knows and we're always leading nowhere Gotta keep on going home, we'll go on home And it's two, four, six, eight, never too late
Starting point is 00:24:57 Just me and my radio fucking through the night Three, five, seven, nine, a little white line Gotta waste time coming up for the morning light We'll be right back. Never one line Motorway sound coming up For the morning light Motorway sound coming up For the morning light That same old motorway sound Coming up for the morning light Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's 2, 4, 6, 8, never too late. Just me and my radio drumming on through the night. 3, 5, 7, 9, double wide line.
Starting point is 00:26:02 Always on coming up with the morning light. And it's 2, 4, 6, 8 Never too late Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Starting point is 00:26:20 Oh Oh Bring to me all my arrows Bring to me my crossbow too I feel we might be near them both Before the night is through Once a world of glittering hope This world is not the world we knew The only light left to shine is between me and you
Starting point is 00:27:03 Between me and you On a roll In a world of stone We are not alone I had once believed in angels They were everywhere I looked a gentle hand Guiding me to give more than I took But I have died a thousand times, watching
Starting point is 00:27:47 all these angels fall, their lonely eyes Hold me still we will avenge them all On the moon In the world of On the moon
Starting point is 00:28:05 In the world of stone We are not alone Hi Mike, Kieran Benn here again. I just wanted to say thank you for continuing the Friends of Toronto might kick out the jams. The song I would like for you to play this time is World of Stone by Blackmore's Night. Blackmore's Night is a medieval folk rock group formed by the legendary guitarist from Deep Purple, Richie Blackmore and his wife Candice Knight. While this song is about a castle under siege and battle,
Starting point is 00:28:47 I think the lyrics are eerily parallel to what we're dealing with now with COVID-19. It's a powerful battle cry that I think everyone needs to hear. Thanks, Mike. Keep up the great work. Take care. Bring the beat and bring the air To help us face this fight again good fortune will shine down on us together we will win and we will
Starting point is 00:29:14 never break our spirit we will never turn and run and we will rise stronger still when we stand as one On the wall
Starting point is 00:29:33 In the world of stone We are not alone On our own In the world of soul We are not alone It's our love So bring to me all of my arrows Bring to me my crossbow too I feel we might near them both
Starting point is 00:30:20 Before the night is through Do you have the time To listen to me whine About nothing and everything All at once I am one of those Melodramatic fools Neurotic to the bone No doubt about it
Starting point is 00:30:46 sometimes I give myself the creeps sometimes my mind plays tricks on me it all keeps adding up I think I'm cracking up am I just paranoid am I just dumb It all keeps adding up I've had some drugged it up And am I just paranoid?
Starting point is 00:31:07 Am I just dumb? I went to a shrink To analyze my dreams She says it's lack of sex that's bringing me down I went to a whore He said my parts are bored Joke with my wife There's no sense in bringing her down
Starting point is 00:31:34 Sometimes I give myself the creeps Sometimes my mind breaks tricks on me It all keeps heading up I face just like it has And my chest never knows Yeah, yeah, yeah Hi, this is Monica. I'm kicking out Basket Case by Green Day.
Starting point is 00:32:02 I was on a grade 8 band trip to Calgary from Edmonton and on the bus ride my friend introduced me to an album she just bought and that was Dookie. We listened to the album the whole trip and I was really into it and it was different from all the other stuff I was into at that time mostly R&B like Janet Jackson and SWV. So yeah, I'm kicking off this jam because it brings me back to those days where I was introduced to a new genre of music. Those were some good times. My place tricks on me It all keeps adding up I take a second half
Starting point is 00:32:48 Am I just paranoid? Like a child guitar solo You taught me everything and everything you've given me I'll always keep it inside You're the driving force in my life Hey There isn't anything or anyone that I could be And it just wouldn't feel right If I didn't have you by my side
Starting point is 00:34:06 You were there for me to love and care for me when skies were gray Whenever I was down you were always there to comfort me No one else can be what you have been to me
Starting point is 00:34:24 You will always be You will always be You will always be the girl in my life for all time Mama, mama, you know I love you You, you know I love you. You know I love you, Mama. Mama, you're the queen of my heart. Your love is like tears from the stars. Mama, I just want you to know Loving you is like food to my soul
Starting point is 00:35:13 What's up, Mike? This is Stu Stone of Pandemic Fridays checking in to kick out some jams. It is Mother's Day weekend, or Mother's Day was already passed if you're listening to this after Mother's Day. But I'm recording this because I wanted to make a dedication for Mother's Day. And you know I love my mom and I'm sure all the people out there love their moms. And if they are moms their kids love them. I hope. And there's some songs that I could have picked here. I could have gone Tupac, Dear Mama.
Starting point is 00:35:46 I could have gone Bohemian Rhapsody, which would have been a good one. Mama just killed a man. There's not that many songs about mothers, though, that really were so impactful. So if you're a songwriter out there, you know, you got the Rolling Stones, Mother's Little Helper. That's a good song, but that's not really like appropriate for Happy Mother's Day. LL Cool J, Mama Said Knock You Out. I mean, listen, if you're a songwriter out there, there's an opportunity to write a song about your mom or about moms in general. And it could be a big hit.
Starting point is 00:36:16 So just give me a small percentage for suggesting the idea. And anyway, I'm going to play Boys to Men, a song for mama. And it goes out to all the mothers out there from me. And I'll see you guys on Pandemic Friday. Your heart is like tears from the stars And mama, I just want you to know Your heart is like tears from the stars Never gonna go one day without you Fills me up just thinking about you
Starting point is 00:37:08 I'll never go away without my mother Mama, you know, you know I love you Mama You know they love you. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Your love is like tears from the stars I want you to know My, my, my, my, my, my, my Loving you is like food to my soul Oh, loving you is like food to my soul Oh, oh, yeah Loving you is like the food Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:14 Loving you is like the fruit of my soul. And that brings us to the end of our 642nd show and the 13th volume of FOTM KOTJ. That's it. I've drained the swamp. I actually have zero submissions in the bank. So if you want a volume 14, and I know I do, you, and I mean you,, you, and I mean you, and you know who I'm talking to,
Starting point is 00:38:48 you know who I'm talking to, I need you to record yourself talking about a song you love for 30 to 60 seconds, and I need you to email that audio file to mike at torontomike.com, and I need you to do it now. When I get 10 new submissions, I'll do volume 14.
Starting point is 00:39:13 You can follow me on Twitter. I'm at torontomike. Great Lakes Brewery are at Great Lakes Beer. Palma Pasta is at Palma Pasta.
