I'm Mike from Torontoike.com and joining me are all of you sweethearts,
you wonderful FOTMs. This is volume nine of F-T-J. That's Friends of Toronto Mic'd Kick Out the Jams.
And I'd love to put together a volume 10,
which means I need you to record yourself
for 30 to 60 seconds talking about a song that you love,
and then I need you to email me that audio file.
Email it to mike at torontomike.com. That's it. It's that easy. Everyone is welcome to participate,
so long as you're an FOTM. Now, without further ado, let's kick off volume nine.
I can almost guarantee you that this is not going to be anybody's
favorite song, but I'm going to add it as number 11 to my kick out the jam. Hey, it's Larry Fedorek.
I host a weekly podcast called I Was Eight. It's storytelling, a personal journal about growing up
in a small town in the prairies. And in the podcast, I don't
really use music from that era, but producing the podcast always puts me in big memory mode.
So when I was a kid, I'd be babysat on my grandparents' farm. And by the afternoon,
I got really bored. So I'd go into my grandfather's Chevrolet.
And you could click the ignition one backward without a key.
And the radio would play.
So I'd sit in there for hours in the afternoon, run down the battery, playing the radio.
Sometimes I'd pretend I was driving somewhere, you know, and cranking the tunes.
And all the stations in the day at that time of day played country and western music and that was okay it was music you know and i was uh i was driving and this song just struck me and i always
remembered it hank lachlan whose real first name i found out much later coincidentally was larry
one of the first honky-tonk singers in country
music. Had a career like 50 years, but this was his big song. It's called Send Me the Pillow
That You Dream On. So darling, I can dream on it too. Well, it's about lost love and long
distance relationships, and I didn't identify any of that as an eight-year-old, but I just thought it was so cool. Send me the pillow that you dream on. And that song just
pops into my head sometimes for no good reason. And now I'm popping it into yours. Good luck. Send me the pillow that you dream on
Don't you know that I still care for you
Send me the pillow that you dream on on So darling I can dream
on it too
Each night
while I'm sleeping
Oh so lonely
I'll share your
love and dreams
that once were true
Send Share your love and dreams that once were true.
Send me the pillow that you dream on.
So darling I can dream on it too. Send me the pillow that you dream of Maybe time will let our dreams come true
Every time we'll let our dreams come true.
Send me the pillow that you dream on.
So darling I can dream on it too.
I've waited so long for you to write me But just a memory's all that's left of you
Send me the pillow that you dream of
Give me the pillow that you dream on So darling I can dream on it too Thank you. My immaculate dream
Made breath and skin
I've been waiting for you
Signed with a home tattoo
Happy birthday to you
Was created for you
Can't forget the fun and the fun And the scenes you was created for you it'll take a little time might take a little cry
to come undone
Now we'll try
To stay blind
To the hope and feel outside
Hey child
Stay wilder than the wind
And blow me into a cloud
Who do you need?
Who do you love?
When you come undone
Who do you need?
Who do you need?
Who do you love?
When you come undone Hi Toronto Mike, this is Mark from Kitchener.
My contribution to FOTMKOTJ is Come Undone by Duran Duran
from their 1993 album, The Wedding Album.
This takes me back to my days at Georgian College
with my then-girlfriend and now-wife Diane,
cruising around Barrie in her mom's Pontiac Tempest
under sunny summer skies with our whole lives ahead of us.
26 years of marriage later,
this song still brings back those wonderful memories
and transports us back to those times.
Thanks, Toronto Mike, for allowing us all
to share our memories through song. We'll try to stay blind to the hope and fear outside.
Hey, child, stay wilder than the wind and blow me into a crowd.
me into a crowd Who do you need
Who do you love
When you come undone
Who do you need
Who do you love
When you come undone
Who do you love when you come undone?

Now, can't nobody tell me nothing
You can't tell me nothing

You can't tell me nothing
Riding on a tractor, lean all in my bladder We'll be right back. Can't nobody tell me nothing.
Can't nobody tell me nothing.
Yeah, I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road.
I'm gonna ride till I can't no more.

Riding down Rodeo in my Maserati sports car.
Got no stress, I've been through all that. I'm like a Marlboro man, so I is Jarvis.
I like Old Town Road because it was the first song I heard at school when I was four years old. I'm not worried
It's a million miles away
Yeah, I saw the news
Happens every day
Some crunk-eyed look-alike
Numb from what he's reading
Wake me up, wake me up
It's one of us that's screaming
Save this house
Save this house Hi, I'm Mike.
This is my contribution to FOTM, kicking out the jams.
Many years ago, we had tickets to see Melissa Etheridge at the C&E Grandstand.
The opening band that night was unknown to us.
Four scraggly musicians wandering on stage after an all-night flight from England.
That band was Spirit of the West, and they absolutely blew us away.
They had a distinct Celtic sound and a frontman who left everything on the stage,
taking on important issues in all their songs and music.
I bought their new album, Save This House, as soon as possible after that show, and their music has been a constant in my life ever since.
Even though we lost John Mann way too soon, his band's music continues to energize us.
I am kicking out Save This House, a song still relevant 30 years after it's released. Happened yesterday, so Cronkite lookalike Come from what he read Wake me up, wake me up
It's one of us that's dead
Save this house
Save this house
Save this house
Save this house
Save this house Save this house
Save this house

Turn my pillow to the fresh side
I fall asleep, oh sleepy eye
I don't dream big, just the right size
Modesty comes from my mom's side You ever heard of a soft touch? You ever heard of a finger roll in the sun, a little raindrop? And you watch this thing grow. Follow me like a firefly. At midnight in mid-July. Mixing blood and sweat and tears of joy That's what I call the rally cry
Relentless

It's time to get to work now Let's get going Hey Mike, it's Becky.
I wanted to thank you and the FOTMs for these great Kick Out the Jam sessions.
They are helping keep me sane and keep me company while working from home.
This is my second jam, and I thought I'd submit one of my current favorites,
which is Relentless by the Arkells.
Not only is it a great song, but it was also inspired by one of my favorite artists,
which was Gord Downie, and Paul Langlois described him as being relentless like a dog on a bone and I think that's
fitting for what we're going through right now and we have to be relentless in our fight against
the virus so stay strong stay safe and listen to my jam. Thanks. Just a kid from the neighborhood Rockies from the neighborhood

You've been looking through me
In a 60s movie
Baby, tell the press you died
Little legend, baby
Try your very best to hide
And greet you in 60s mind
Hello, Mike and fellow FOTMs.
The next song I'd like to present to the listenership,
in addition to being one of my favorite all-time guilty pleasure jams,
is a song that takes me back to the very first job I had when I was in high school,
part-time at Burger King.
And my friend James would bring in all kinds of mixtapes that he would make from home,
and that's where he introduced me to this song and this band.
And as I said, I
still love it to this day.
This is Green Tinted Sixties Mind by Mr. Big. We're all in this together. Hanging out with Janice
Moving to Atlantis
Could have made it if you tried
What's the point of force?
It's easy as a horse to ride
Three to the 60's
You've been looking through me
In a 60's movie
Maybe tell the press you died
Little legend baby
Try your very best to hide
Reach in a 16-day lie
In a 16-day lie This is the ballad of Richard Ione.
Richard was a typical suburban teenager.
He lived with his parents and spent most of his time hanging out with his friends,
listening to records and smoking dope in his room in the basement. There was only one difference between
Richard and a typical suburban teenager. He was totally obsessed with Tony Iommi. For
those of you who don't know, Tony Iommi is the guitarist in the rock and roll group Black
Sabbath. Richard idolized him. He believed, he believed, he believed, he was the son of Tony.
He changed his name, he changed his name, he changed his name to I.O.B.
But Richard's devotion to Tony Iommi didn't end there.
Not only did he change his last name,
but he began buying vintage musical equipment circa 1969.
His goal was to obtain the same make and model guitars and amplifiers
that his idol had used.
He even got a 72-piece drum kit just like Bill Ward's.
Richard and his best friend would go down to the basement,
get really wasted, and set up all the equipment like a shrine
They talked about the day that they would form their band
Richard, of course, would be the guitarist
He believed, he believed, he believed
He was the son of Tony
He changed his name, he changed his name
He changed his name to Iommi.
One day Richard and his best friend were down in the beach.
Hey, it's Jason.
I'm keeping this short and sweet because I know that I'm talking over this awesome forgotten jam.
But anyway, Mike, you, Cam, and Stu have inspired me.
The band is called Furnace Face.
The song is called The Ballad of Richard Iommi.
Came out in the mid-90s.
Enjoy.
A very talented and lovely Canadian rock singer
who's also known as the Metal Queen.
Richard and his friend loved Lee Aaron
second only to Tony Iommi.
Richard knew he had to somehow meet Lee Aaron
and tell her the secret of his lineage.
He believed, he believed, he believed he was the son of Tony
He went to see, he went to afternoon, he went down to the concert hall early in hopes of catching a glimpse of her. On the day of the show, Richard was so excited he could barely move.
In the afternoon, he went down to the concert hall early in hopes of catching a glimpse of her.
Suddenly, there she was. Everything in the world faded away,
and before he knew it, he was telling her about the double-neck guitar,
the 72-piece drum kit, and why he changed his name.
The metal queen listened, and in a single sentence, brought his entire world crashing down.
Like, why are you selling shit?
I gotta lie.
He believed, he believed, he believed he was the son of Tony
The metal queen, the metal queen, the metal queen
Slashed his dream He believed
He believed
He believed
He was the son of Tony
He changed his name
He changed his name
He changed his name
To IOMI The Telephone is Ringing
You got me on the run
I'm driving in my car now
Anticipating fun
I'm driving right up to you, babe
I guess that you couldn't see, yeah, yeah
But you were under my wheels, honey
Why don't you let me be?
Cause when you call me on the telephone, say
Take me to a show.
And then I say, honey, I just can't go.
Oh, lady, say, can I get me my home?
Telephone is ringing.
You got me on the run.
I'm driving in my car now.
I got you on my way
Hey Mike, this is Al Grego from the Royal Pains.
Gotta be quick because this is a short song.
After listening to fellow Pains, Stuart Narduzzo,
kick out the jam that got him started with playing guitar,
I thought I'd give you my origin story
and it all started with this track.
I was probably five years old
and my dad had this pile of records and it was started with this track. I was probably five years old and my
dad had this pile of records and it was an eclectic mix of Portuguese and Italian polka, Herb Albert
and the Tijuana Brass, Engelbert Hunkberdink and amidst all this stuff there was this red record
that caught my eye. It had a picture of a cobra on the front and the name Alice Cooper scrawled
in what appeared to be black magic marker on the
cover so I just naturally figured that my dad bought this record from a lady named Alice in a
garage sale. I was too young to understand but then I put it on and that first track just hit
me in the face and I never looked back. From then on I was a big fan of anything that rocked and it
all started with Alice Cooper. It all started with this album and this track.
Here is Under My Wheels by Alice Cooper. Got you, got you, got you, got you, got you under my wheels.
Got you under my wheels. I've got the perfect punch
Besides you I search inside your purse I've got the perfect perch Beside you I search inside your purse

Yeah we know what is good
Yeah we know what is good I won't judge, but what's the effect
When we move away from it.
I'll burn what's inside my chest.
Hold me if I can't handle it.
I'll watch while you put on some airs.
I love that Bill Murray man.
I'll go inside the cinema. Come culture reject

He just thought I'd like it.
Well, 12 years later,
I just want to let Brian Martin know
not only did I like this song,
