Welcome. How you doing, buddy? I'm doing awesome. Super excited to be here. You know, I just did a bike ride on the lakeshore because it's closed to vehicular traffic, which is awesome, by the way. And it's such a sunny, nice, warm day. And I was so jazzed. But I've been informed by Environment Canada that we have a 30% chance of rain during this jam kicking. So buckle up. 30%.

All right. I like those odds. I keep playing those odds. So how are you keeping up? Like, how are you holding up? So you told me earlier that I'm the only one who calls you Mimico Mike. I actually thought maybe I did, like, invent that, but I couldn't remember anymore because you're, like, the Mimico man.

But you're not Mimico Mike except in my view. Is that right? No, I appreciate the nickname coming from you. That's great. I get lots. I've been called many a things You know By friends and neighbours alike But Mimico Mike

It's been thrown out there But You know It's You're the first one To kind of like Really hone in on it And put it out there

People will come to me About New Toronto And they'll call it Mimico And I'll say Well actually It's New Toronto But, they're in the same beautiful pocket of W6. W6. And W6, that includes Long Branch?

Yes. Okay. So we'll let them in. I do notice that like everybody kind of knows Long Branch and they know Mimico, but New Toronto, it's the most people are like, I didn't know there was a New Toronto. Like we're kind of hiding out here. Yeah. Actually, New Toronto is the reason that I moved to Mimico in my 20s.

Tell me that story. What did New Toronto do to you? I got to hear this. I used to be in construction. I ran a kind of amateur construction company and project management and property management. So managing residential units. And I was at Home Depot and Ikea and I had some time to blow and I'm like, I'm just going to go down to the lake from here. So I followed Islington all the way

down and I'd never been down here. I've been working Toronto for probably six, seven years at the time, never, ever gone down to the water in this area of the city and kind of came down and was like, holy SHIT, what's going on down here? This is a whole like secret community. I think that's our story too. Like I had lived in Toronto my whole life and I'd never been to the waterfront in this part of the city before. Like I do it up near like maybe near Sunnyside or up Harborfront, of course, or Ontario place, but never here. And then I think Monica and I were just, let's check out this hood. And it was like like holy shit

uh this is like the jewel just here and right next door to new toronto of course is mimico and ripping up the mimico real estate scene i guess i'm gonna ask you uh well firstly i want to ask you because i tweeted a photo i bike mimico all the time so i see this van the the mike majeski van and i tweeted a photo of it this morning and i just said this van, the Mike Majewski van, and I tweeted a photo of it this morning. And I just said, this van will bring today's guest to kick out the jams. Did you bring that van to the jam kicking here today? I did. I drove it in shamelessly down your street.

We should get a selfie in front of that. What can you share about the van? Like that van, you use it for, like, who can use the van? Just like, what's the deal with the van? Well, I'm friends with a lot of people in the neighborhood. So anyone that I'm on a first name basis with in the neighborhood could always call me and ask if they could borrow the van or if I can pick something up for them. But you know, with every house, there's a little bit of work to be done. Whether it's pristine, there's, you know, well, all your beautiful new furniture has boxes, let's get rid of those boxes. But oftentimes there's stuff to go to charity.

There's stuff to go to the dump. There's stuff to go to a cousin's house. And so we're helping to facilitate that. And I just found I was renting so many U-Haul vans. Love U-Haul. Great company. Super accessible. Just the extra time in Ubers to get there to pick it up.

And I just thought, I kind of have one of these guys and I don't really fit into many boxes. And I kind of drool over vans. So it was kind of a thing. I said to my wife, I'd really like to buy a van for the business. How would you feel about that? And she, you and your vans. I used to have a GMC van. So we bought it and I deckled it up.

Here's this company, Southwood in Mississauga, the best service ever. And it's even deckled on top so you can see it from condos. Yeah, Google Maps, you name it. You got a jet pack, you can see my branding. That helicopter went by. I think it can read the top of the van. So that's cool.

Now that I know this, because we bought this at Costco, we bought this big, like it's a couch and it's got this extension and we had to rent a U-Haul to get the couch here. But now that I know you, I feel like I can pick up the phone and borrow the Mimico mic van. Yeah. Because we're on a first name basis. You got it. Well, it's a great name. I love the name. I want to ask you about the process of coming up with the 10 songs we're going to kick out today. I want to know, like, was it easy? Was it hard? I want to know how you did it. But I also going to ask you the big question, which I know the answer to this because you know where I live. But why would anybody want

to move to Mimico? Like, why Mimico? Start with that one? Yeah, let's start with that one. Okay. You know, I'll go back to that story where I came down here randomly in my twenties. Um, and you know, this is thrown around when you live in new Toronto, long branch or Mimico people call it beaches West. Right. Uh, but it wasn't, it's not a name that people have come up with,

uh, as a group decision. The second I drove down here, I said, you just, you relate things in life to other things you've seen in life. So I just thought, wow,

this is like the beaches, but in the West end, this is incredible. Why haven't I heard of it? And then I started looking up real estate prices and I was like, this is less than half price of the beaches, but in the West end. And I happen to be a West end boy. Right. So to me, you have this incredible access to the lake, which is what makes the beaches so famous. But when you're a West end dweller, like I am, I have access to the lake, which is what makes the beaches so famous. But when you're a West End dweller, like I am, I have access to everything I love about the West End, which involves all the business and people and friends and family that I have all the way to Dundas, where I'm from in Hamilton. So Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga, it's all right here.

And then the city is right there on the other side. So that's fantastic. The schools are incredible. I got to give a shout out to our principals and our schools and our parent community that goes around the schools to make sure that they are inclusive, wonderful places for our kids to learn. We have parks in abundance. We have incredible businesses. I was just at Ed's Real Scoop in Mimico, my good buddy Mark, scooping some of the best ice cream in all of the city, homemade. You know, they have locations in Roncie, Leslieville, beaches. And, of course, they've chosen Mimico as one of their hotspots. So it's on the radar for these family-friendly businesses to say, you know what, this is the next hotspot.

And really, that's been an ongoing thing for about six years now. We've seen some really consistent growth. that's been an ongoing thing for about six years now. We've seen some really consistent growth. And I think people want to be in beautiful, safe community, down by the water with everything the city has to offer. We got that GO train, which is just a game changer. You can be, if you're in Mimico and you can walk to that GO train,

you can be downtown at Union Station in 16 minutes. I can go on and on. I know. We went, we took the go to an Argos game at BMO Field. I think it was six minutes or something. It's insane. It's insane. And I'm a four-minute walk from that station, and so often people, they're telling me, wow, we just can't think about Mimico

because it's just too far out of the city. And I just say, okay, you've talked to me about, say, this area of Pelham Park or this area of the junction. Google map how long it's going to take you to get to work. Right. And I can guarantee you, you can almost cut it in half by living in Mimico. Yeah. Well, you know, like I said, we're next door. We could throw a stone and hit Mimico here in New Toronto. And we absolutely love it here. Like we're eight years here now. And I, I don't think I'm ever leaving. Like this is where I belong right by the lake and

West End. I'm also a West End guy. Like everything I do and seems to be West of Yonge Street. So that's where I went to power. That's when it was, you know, so I'm a West End guy. Love it here. And we'll sprinkle more like stuff about Mimico. I want to ask about your involvement in the community, but to get to the jams,

because we're kicking out these jams today and there's some bangers in your list. Like I was playing them last night. How did you come up with it? Like, was it tough to come up with 10 songs? Like, how did that process work for you? I have the most eclectic kind of not cool music taste, I think, of anyone I know. And my friends consistently make fun of me. For example, one of my friends, Steve McCarthy, who's an awesome, incredible, and talented actor who you've seen across the screen,

he played an acoustic Kiss from the Rose seal at my wedding only four years ago because it's a known fact that I run to seal. So I run three days a week and I listen to seal. How weird is that? Yeah, I don't hear a lot of that. Don't worry, we're not listening to seal, So I run three days a week and I listen to seal. How weird is that? Yeah. I don't hear a lot of that. Don't worry. We're not listening to seal people. Don't tune out. I don't think that would scare enough people away. Like seals got some good jams. If crazy wasn't in 1991, it would have made the list, the real estate 80s inspiration list that we're going to go through today. Okay. So that's an important clarification. So all your jams are from the decade of the 1980s.

Yes, and they're songs that I have used in my 14-year career in real estate to find motivation or chill moments in this heated, super competitive business that I'm in. Right. And, you know, bring me a smile and an edge that is so very Mike Majewski. Is that shirt from the 80s? It feels a little Miami Vice, wouldn't you say? I feel like in like 89, I was rocking a shirt like that, but maybe it's a faux retro.

It's like, holy smokes, it's just epic. But, okay, so this is the psych-up decision night. Mike Majewski is getting himself all psyched up. You're driving over. Yeah. Things are heated. You know you gotta perform. John Farnham. You're the voice. Was this in a movie soundtrack?

Do you remember this at all? Or am I... I'm sure. I'm sure it was in several movies during the 80s. It was definitely in Hot Rod. But something at the time but man what a jam it's been a long time though since I heard it like it's almost a forgotten

80s epic jam but you're keeping it alive yeah there's some typical ones in here but you're gonna get a couple off the cuff ones today that you've forgotten about for sure alright so we're gonna let Johnny here play in the background I was gonna ask you about community involvement.

I know that, Mike Majewski, you guys are doing a bunch of work in the community. You're not just here buying and selling real estate. You're making a difference. Do you want to shout out some of the causes that you're involved in here? Yeah, absolutely. Of course, Lakeshore Arts, learners john english david hornell school uh some of the local businesses of course ads and stuff not that everyone needs support it's about supporting and just kind of having a congruent community so just because i'm naming someone's

name doesn't mean it's a charity or or some or they're in need uh of course daily bread we work with we did a big fundraiser for them at christmas we do a big clothing drive every january for new circles it's actually an east end clothing charity but incredible so just so much dignity they have a big facility where people can come in new new refugees people in need from all over the city they have different like areas where you you can go to this facility in that facility and that's for clothing that's for clothing because there's also the furniture bank uh not too far from here and i know they help out new canadians with like getting their like mattress in their furniture and stuff exactly and these are super important uh you just can't imagine

coming to a country with you know very little on your back but a bag and starting a new and new circle specifically they have it set up like a store. So there's a lot of dignity in coming in and shopping, trying stuff on, and then leaving. And they also have job training and stuff like that. So some of the charities. We used to work with Reach for the Rainbow, which got kids with disabilities.

Actually, say you didn't have the use of your legs and your arms or something like that. They would get you in a harness up playing hockey for a Saturday or get you, uh, you know, propelling or repelling, like whatever it was. Um, they were working to get kids who would never have an experience like this up

and actually playing and, and involved maybe at camp or something where they wouldn't otherwise be. They were a great, uh, charity while they lasted. And then, uh, they kind of faded away,

but, um, but awesome. Like it's awesome. And I hear like you guys are, you're here, you're, you do closing business and you're working hard for your clientele,

but you're also helping the community. So I think it's awesome. Yeah. You don't lay on your deathbed counting the number of houses that you've sold, but you do, uh, count the number of people that you helped and that, uh back full you just feel it you know that it's important and you're getting something from it Diamond line, lover boy

Color me bad so but i took her to see def leppard i think heart open for them i think and i had the best fucking part of my french best effing time give it to me buddy all right def leppard so why why this great ballad i'll call this the ballad from hysteria oh this is this is high school for me man um you just can't listen to this song and not kind of get pulled in by it but also have this smirky grin on your face with how cheesy it is and how much you love it it's just it's just decadence it's 80s thick cream cheese decadence of rock there's just nothing i can say better about it. The climax to this chorus is just...

As Maestro would say, who was my guest yesterday, Maestro Fresh, the crescendo is nice, yo. This is from Hysteria. And as I recall, because I own the cassette for Hysteria, I think every song on that darn CD, or I guess it was a cassette, but on that album, was a hit. Oh, man. It's completely hit-laden, this thing.

And their drummer had one arm. I know, and the drummer had one arm. And it's one of those albums where they'll have hits like Pour Some Sugar On Me would be the first hit and they'll just go. And like two years later, they're still pumping out hits from Hysteria.

Amazing. An amazing song and amazing band. And I think there was a period, I think that the 80s hair metal rock poison and all these bands like that, they had that moment

where grunge hit and they all had to go like underground for a while because grunge was everything and you couldn't be like a hair metal band. And then enough time went by, they could all come out of the woodwork or whatever.

It was okay to say, yeah, I like 80s hair metal and it's fine. We don't have any... Right now, I can't think of anyone that's as epic. Even movies, the buildup. There was something about the 80s that was just so special everything was big right it was just like big hair shoulder pads yeah like everything was big take it to the max and you like there is no room for improvement on this song

Oh, yeah. Woo, inspired choice. Okay, this is Never. This is from Moving Pictures. So how come this song? You know, if you're an 80s kid, there's some piece of you that's been drilled into me anyway. It's that when you're fighting and you're climbing and you're doing everything you can for your life,

that somehow you're dancing. So this is that classic scene from Footloose when Kevin Bacon's pissed. And he drives, he's got a cigarette, he's got a beer in the car, guys. I don't know what that's all about. But he drives into this empty factory and he like dance, frustrate, fights himself.

It's probably the most, it's one of the most memorable scenes in my early childhood. And it like embarrassingly so like gets me juiced up. So I've been kind of diving into some like George Jones and Tammy Wynette and all this. Shout out to Royal York and their painted bike lane, uh that's the location of my broken wrist last march uh was me biking along well we've had you know last year we had a fatality there yes and uh you know right at judson in rural york and right uh guys i'm working with one of the bike lane coalitions across the city right now with the mra mimico residence association incredible volunteer only uh community leadership I guess, but it's just people coming together and anyone can be a member. So please look up Mimico Residence Association if you're interested in

being in the know in Mimico outside of real estate, sorry, but knowing and being part of the community. It's $10 a year to join and you get all the info, but they're working right now with the Bike Lane Coalition. And right now, one of the problems with bike lanes is everyone wants them to be specific to the neighborhood and one of the coalitions in a meeting we had the other day really brought it to our attention that you know if all the different neighborhoods aren't cohesively connected through bike lanes there's a it becomes unsafe because you can't get from one neighborhood to the other neighborhood and we'll never actually use bikes as transportation if we can't get across the city in a really safe, kind of efficient manner.

And I think, you know, it's been a thing. We know, yeah, new bike lane here, new bike lane there, but until they're connected and it's an inner city across the city kind of thing, it's never going to be that kind of utopian bicycle community that it really can be. So think harder, support your bike lane coalitions, get out there. It's good for the environment. It's good for your body. Wear a helmet, all that stuff. And now more CanCon.

this is the bar that I'm going to walk to. Sweet. And that's the bar that Dave Bolin's brother works at or something. There's some legend there of Dave Bolin's brother. I know when Dave Bolin won the cup with the Blackhawks. I know the cup made its way to the Goose. Yes. It's the closest Toronto has had to the Stanley Cup since 1967.

The Goose, guys, is that weird, crazy bar that if you ever take the GO train to Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, that area, you used to stop in Mimico before you knew what Mimico was. And you'd be like, I don't know where I am, but what's that crazy bar right on the train tracks? And it actually used to be an old either burlesque house or like a brothel at one point. And it had a bar underneath with rooms above and a big parking lot. And it was hidden kind of off the tracks.

And it was the kind of last of that almost out West, like Calgary feeling bar with that bar in the middle of the whole big space. And totally, totally. And it's just off the beaten path. So it's like, you know, cause you got, you got to, it's not on Royal York and it's not,

it's, you got, it's not Parkland. You gotta, yeah. You can't find it unless you know it. You can't find it unless you know it. You can't stumble upon that. Yeah, I love hearing about the Mimico institutions, no doubt. And is San Remo Bakery, is that in Mimico? Yes. Yeah, and they just lost their founder, sadly, in the last year.

But that's one of those places where you talk about Mimico places. It's like we talk about Great Lakes, which technically is not Mimico because it's too north, but on the other side of the Gardiner. But the San Remo Bakery, that's a big Mimico stop. Big time. Shout out to San Remo. I mean, people know San Remo before they know Mimico sometimes. You just have to say San Remo and they're like, I know that place.

And there's some famous Mimico residents that I've had people come over that live in Mimico. Like Biff N's some famous Mimico residents that I've had people come over that live in Mimico. Like Biff Naked lives in Mimico now. Do you know, like down by the Humber Bay area, if you will, the condos and all. So Biff Naked moved from Vancouver and now lives happily in Mimico.
