Starting point is 00:00:00 Okay, so Mike is for microphone and Cam is for camera and Stu is for studio. A little piece of toast, because there's so much to choose from. There's brown bread, white bread, all sorts of wholemeal bread. It comes in funny packages, we're writing on the side. But it doesn't matter which one you have, because when you cut the crust off, have it with marmalade or butter, cheese, tomatoes, beans, banana, or chocolate. If it's strange, it doesn't really matter. Oh no, it all goes with toast.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Just toast. After a long and dreary five-month absence, the Pandemic Friday crew of Toronto Mike, Stu Stone, and Cam Gordon Be afraid. Be very afraid. are back. FOTMs rejoice.

Starting point is 00:02:59 Stone. Yes. Welcome back, guys. Big intro. Getting bigger every month. That's Jeannie Becker's ex that does that intro for you. That's true. That is good.
Starting point is 00:03:13 That means you listened to the Jeannie Becker episode. I listened to it. I listened a lot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm impressed. You saw the Coles notes. I tried to let her off the hook. It was in the 1236 Newsletter.
Starting point is 00:03:25 I knew more than I was... She was not having that Pepsi comment at all. I just wanted her to know that I know. I didn't need her to... It's important she knows. Like, she's about to turn 70. I was going to go like this. Is she going to be 70?
Starting point is 00:03:36 She's 70 on the weekend. Really? Yeah. She looks amazing, right? I imagine. Would you hit that? I don't speak like that. You know who is her ex?
Starting point is 00:03:44 Well, Peter and her had one date, Peter Gross, FOT and Peter Gross. How you hit that? I don't speak like that. You know who is her ex? Peter and her had one date, Peter Gross. FOT and Peter Gross. How old is he? Do you know Bob? He's 71, I think. She's older than him? He's older than her. Oh, he's older than her.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Because 71 is more than 70. Yeah, that's true. Do you guys know the radio personality Bob McGee? Yes. That is the ex of Jeannie Becker. They have children. A child or children. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Oh, is this the Yukon daughter? Did she ever have anything with Daryl Dahmer? And Russ Holden? Rusty? They were there forever, eh? They were there forever. Like, since the 70s. They only, like, left, like, recently.
Starting point is 00:04:16 But I'm actually going to go upstairs and get some cold. Are there any B personalities in her black book? Maybe. Ted Wallachian? I don't know. So I'm going to get beer. Do you want me to go? No, I'll go. Actually, that's weird. You two just like
Starting point is 00:04:31 chat amongst yourselves and I'll be back in like two minutes. Should we do the Scott Hall portion here? Yeah, Cam, it's hard to see you now because like when the microphone is raised to like my appropriate height, it's not... What if I'm back here that's slightly better it's kind of weird but that's okay like mike's there's a big delay i really don't like sitting here to be honest with you yeah i
Starting point is 00:04:57 don't like it either it's it's very intimate that's why i moved if you're just joining us toronto mike has gone upstairs to his refrigerator to get some Great Lakes Brewery Tallboys. Yeah. So that he can serve one to this tall boy that you can't even see anymore. Okay, serious. Let's be serious for a second. R.E.P. Scott Hall. Stu, I often ask this to you.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Your dealings with Scott Hall, like you must have crossed paths with him at some point. Yeah. And not at Bad Boy Furniture. That's when I crossed paths with him at some point yeah um and not at bad boy furniture and that's when i crossed paths with him yeah that's when it would have been when you and i in 1990 something yeah we went and lined up at uh uh bad boy furniture to get a polaroid photo uh with scott hall and his championship belt which is huge like that would that was that was fucking awesome. Yeah. It was so exciting.
Starting point is 00:05:46 And we did get a Polaroid with him. Yeah. I still have it somewhere. I have a digital version of it that maybe will surface at some point. Yeah. Obviously, my most recent dealings with him were not good based on the dark side of the ring and whatnot. Sure. But I will say that as a fan,
Starting point is 00:06:06 I mean, is there anybody cooler than Scott Hall? I feel like he had universally, like 100% approval rating. Yeah, he's just a cool dude. Yeah, like nobody liked him. He was one of those guys you'd love to hate or you'd just love to love. Also, just like he made everybody around him.
Starting point is 00:06:23 That's terrible. Stop it. He made everybody around him. That's terrible. Stop it. He made everybody around him cooler just by association. Kind of like when I come here on this show and make you guys cooler. Yes, very similar. It's like that's what Scott Hall brings to the table. And, you know, you can't teach cool. And he, I mean, listen, I'm sad that, it's just sad that all of our heroes from,
Starting point is 00:06:47 if you're a wrestling fan, it's very sad to be a wrestling fan. You almost have to be sponsored by Ridley Funeral Home for real because these guys are dropping like flies, and none of them get, and somehow Iron Sheik turned 80 years old two days ago. Wow, good for him. And I spoke to him on FaceTime. How about that?
Starting point is 00:07:03 Iron Sheik knows how to FaceTime. You're his bubba. I'm his bubba. Where does Sheiky live? He lives in the Atlanta. Very nice. And he's 80. And think about the damage that Sheiky did to his lungs and liver and brain cells over the years of partying. He's still going.
Starting point is 00:07:20 It's remarkable. Now back to Scott Hall, because I don't know the name Scott Hall, but when I heard Razor Ramon yeah no no that's what I'm about to say is that I actually do know the name Razor Ramon
Starting point is 00:07:29 and I feel like his catchphrase did he say stuff like Chico yeah a Scarface impression a Scarface and he would say say goodnight to the bad guy
Starting point is 00:07:38 say hello to the bad guy say hello but he's doing a Scarface thing right basically that's what it stemmed from the guys that heard him doing this impression of...
Starting point is 00:07:47 Say hello to my little friend. Scarface, Tony Montana, and everybody got a big laugh. And they're like, well, hey, pal, you should make this your gimmick. And he became Razor Ramon. And he's now no longer with us, unfortunately. There was a documentary a few years back with Diamond Dallas Page and Jake the Snake and Scott Hall where Dallas Page sort of helped these guys get sober. So there was definitely an effort on Scott Hall's part over the last five years or so
Starting point is 00:08:21 to turn the car around. And it's a shame. I believe he had hip surgery and he had some complications with blood clots as a result of the surgery and had multiple heart attacks and couldn't kick out. Well, I'm sorry to hear this news. Those broken hips are just brutal.
Starting point is 00:08:39 It just seems like I've just known a number of people personally, like somebody's grandmother breaks their hips. Well, that's what happens because they break their hip and they're immobilized and then they're then they get pneumonia yeah it's not hip to be square is what you're telling me now listen uh scott hall terrible uh news i'm sorry to hear that is this i'm curious to hear the segue here well no the segue as well let's do let's do the you crack no no there's one thing that is terrible i'm about to segways i'm about to crack one open and and then I will be doing a hard pivot. But I'm going to just pay some respect to a listener of the program. Scott Hall?
Starting point is 00:09:13 Who is also a Patreon. Patreon. No, you're called a Patreon. You have a Patreon account? I have a Patreon account. I know. I never talk about it. I know.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Do you show nudes on there? That's the only fan's account. But this gentleman who has been writing. Is Monica on there? That's the only fan's account. But this gentleman who has been writing... Is Monica on there? Yes. For years, this gentleman's been writing me feedback
Starting point is 00:09:29 after episodes. He particularly likes the radio episodes, but I just want to say I learned the sad news that this gentleman, Terry Corcoran, I hope I said that right,
Starting point is 00:09:38 C-O-R-C-O-R-A-N. Did Terry pass away? He passed away in his sleep last night. Oh, God. So I'm just going to crack open my Great Lakes and say this episode's for Terry.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Rest in power, Terry. Rest in power, Terry. And rest in power, Scott. And shout out to Ridley Funeral Home. That's awful. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, especially over from London, to join with us and pay tribute to the Dubliners,
Starting point is 00:10:01 here's a number from the Dubs with the Poems. Aren't they, like, not Irish? The Dubliners are Irish. The Pogues are not. No, they're from London. Don't you know that? Yeah, we learned that last year. On this day. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:21 I'll bring her down, but this, of course... Is that Weird Al Yankovic? No. I'll bring her down, but this of course Happy St. Paddy's Day to you two It's St. Patrick's Day today Do what you gotta do there, brother This is an audio program People can hear me, Mike
Starting point is 00:10:39 It just dawned on me, because when I think of St. Patrick's Day I also think of the start of the pandemic We must be at about the two also think of the start of the pandemic. We must be at about the two year anniversary of the first ever pandemic fright. Yeah, so it was the 20th. Now I'm not on at all. Cam's not on at all. Two years ago.
Starting point is 00:10:55 I did nothing good there. Don't worry about me. I never was a good director. I don't see Stu at all anymore. Oh, he's moved. Cam's a good looking guy. We don't see Stu at all anymore Oh he's moved Okay I see That's not bad You know what We don't need to see Cam's a good looking guy
Starting point is 00:11:07 We don't need to see him That's good I want to just say Happy St. Patrick's Day To MF If MF is She's Irish Oh yeah I guess Fitzpatrick
Starting point is 00:11:16 Whoa Whoa whoa whoa whoa Sorry I'm Micah Fitzpatrick The football player For two years We've been saying MF Micah Fitzpatrick
Starting point is 00:11:24 MF Mark Fitzpatrick, MF. Mark Fitzpatrick, the goalie. Yeah, Fitzy. Margo's got the cargo. Reg's got the rigs. That's my ex-wife, Margo. I'm not even kidding. Whoa. A lot of revelations today. Holy smokes. I want to talk about something. Is MF celebrating
Starting point is 00:11:39 St. Patrick's Day? She's hanging with a friend tonight, and yeah, I think they're going to have a pint of Guinness or something. So she'll be ready. Sure, yes. To celebrate with you when we get you out of here. Absolutely, yeah. How come not Great Lakes? You're dressed for the occasion. Collared shirt.
Starting point is 00:11:56 That's how he bikes. Argyle socks. That's his biking attire. Absolutely. You rode a bicycle? Yes. That's how they roll in Amsterdam. Get up to the Dutch. I was at the office today. I want to look a bit presentable. We're just recently back open. How long of a bike ride is that?
Starting point is 00:12:12 It's like 35 minutes. That's a long time to be on a bike. No, it's not. I met Lieve Fumke at Gerard and Young or something like that today and that was about 45 minutes. Mike rode his bicycle from New Toronto all the way to this adult establishment
Starting point is 00:12:28 because I just made a joke. I made a joke on Twitter. I thought you were serious. Did you know it was a joke? By the way, if you want to play that game more often, I will throw out other landmarks. I've done it before. I think Michael Lang had me go to the C&E Grandstand. The Big Apple.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Keep it reasonable. Did you go inside? No, I didn't go inside. Did you get any April Wine or anything like that? I was meeting Levi Fumka. Yeah, pour some sugar on me from Def Leppard was playing. I was meeting Levi Fumka.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I just want to say thank you, Levi Fumka, for buying me an Americano and other FOTMs. An Americano? How do you say that? Americano? Yeah, that one too. And I want to say other FOTMs should follow suit. Well, Levi Fumka and Juan, they know Zanzibar quite well.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Do you know how they know it? They met there. That's where they went to get vaccinated. Oh, is that right? They were given free vaccinations there. At the Zanzibar. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:15 That's a true story. Oh, I believe it. How dare you insinuate anything other than that? Is that? No. Okay, so now that we've talked about the Zanzibar, where I was today, but I didn't go inside, and then the coffee I had at L leave a fumka, which was fantastic. I want to ask you, Stu Stoner, about a quote you put on social media,
Starting point is 00:13:29 and I want you to elaborate now that we have more room. Every day is a great day, even the bad ones. What was that in regards to? Was that just an optimistic piece of wisdom? No, I think that I had some very frustrating days fairly recently, and I had a sort of a self-revelation that I would love to tell you without this music playing it's good it's okay it's St. Patrick's Day Stu come on yeah okay there goes the Dubliners and the you know what I had a revelation that a self
Starting point is 00:13:57 sort of revelation an epiphany epiphany of sorts and I'm sure you guys have already had this earlier in your life I'm a late bloomer. But, you know, I'm making this movie, Vandits. We've talked about it before. Right. Equipment got stolen, all that. Right. Allegedly.
Starting point is 00:14:17 So I had to turn in my director's cut, they call it. Right. To the powers that be. And I was feeling pretty good about it, right? And I sent it in, and the feedback was that we're not there yet. It's not good enough. Well, I think it is. Is there a cameo from Cam Gordon in this? So the point is, I'm getting all flustered here,
Starting point is 00:14:39 and I'm thinking to myself, what the hell am I frustrated about? I'm mad because I'm getting notes about my movie. Like that's the best kind of stress that you could ask for. This is what I wanted. This is what I signed up for. There's people that wish they even had one chance to do what I get to do. So what the hell do I got to be upset about? And I decided, yeah, listen, a bad day is still a good day where every day we will open our eyes in the morning and wake up that's another chance to do something you know what i mean attitude is everything attitude is everything uh so this is a new positive stew one that wants to go to pickle barrel can you talk
Starting point is 00:15:16 to wise with wise blot i want to go to the pickle barrel and watch him eat soup slowly from a spoon i want to see him cut into a piece of carrot cake. I'd love to. But I'm being serious. This is a positive stew. This is the type of stew that, you know, you saw, we spoke about it last month, but, you know, when the lovely Liz cornered me at the last TMLX event,
Starting point is 00:15:40 that stew was a very patient stew. This stew would have even been even, imagine. I would have greeted her with hugs you would have embraced them yeah yeah the feedback so if you're out there and you're having some stress think about what you're actually stressed about and you might not be stressed anymore because there's such a thing as good stress if you're doing what you love because it drives you if you're doing what you love then that's the kind of stress you want. Absolutely. Yeah, you're directing movies, man.
Starting point is 00:16:07 You ever step back and say, I'm Stu Stone and I direct movies. Well, it's not even just that. It's just like... Cam here can't even direct traffic. Yeah. Well, listen, Cam is a very... He has a very important, huge job as well.
Starting point is 00:16:21 So whatever stress he has at work, he's got to be like, this is what I wanted. Big title. Big title. Okay. I'm glad to hear you get the positive. Now that we're talking stew though,
Starting point is 00:16:29 I want to talk about the stew sessions. Right. First questions for Cam though. Cam, did you watch this? I've watched the first four episodes. Really? You couldn't,
Starting point is 00:16:41 you know how short they are? I, I, you're too busy. I got stuff to do but yeah yeah i i watched it let's do i made a point to watch them all back back to back to back to back for those that don't know this do sessions a six episode web series that i surprised everybody with with very little fanfare it's like dropping a mixtape uh just drop just dropped this sort of
Starting point is 00:17:01 secret project and uh drake and it's still a secret because not a lot of people even know about it unless they follow me on social media. We're talking about it now. But we're talking about it now. I'm very happy with how it came out. It's very fun. It's something I really enjoy doing, and it chronicles the story of a 40-year-old rapper
Starting point is 00:17:20 reluctantly getting pulled back in front of the microphone. It's got some good cameos from some friendly familiar faces oh yeah the pot let the the podcast episode yeah that was a good one the podcaster i'm very oh so you know okay because that uh i was gonna ask you is that a work or a shoot well that's he's really got a podcast yeah but you you were like he knew we weren't gonna talk financial no no we we we we didn't have a script or anything like that. Okay, I'm just asking tough questions. But he's not an actor, if that's what you mean.
Starting point is 00:17:50 I was just wondering whether it's like, okay, just pretend like I'm going to talk investments and then be surprised. I will say I was chuckling in bed at that part and MF kind of looked over and was like, oh, what are you watching? There's Stu. Was she impressed with the production values?
Starting point is 00:18:06 I thought it was well done. Yeah, she was very curious. I'll tell you what, Mike. You don't go to a restaurant and go to the kitchen and ask how they made the soup. You just eat the soup and you enjoy it. So why don't you shut the fuck up about trying to debunk the podcast episode. I just like to know if I'm watching a mockumentary or a documentary. I mean, you're watching wrestling.
Starting point is 00:18:24 Right. You're always watching wrestling. I make movies, Mike. Right. I know, I know. I'd just like to know if I'm watching a mockumentary or documentary. I mean, you're watching wrestling. Right. You're always watching wrestling. I make movies. Right. I know, I know. I should just suspend. Speaking of wrestling, I've got some exciting news. Is it with Scott Hall? And then we can get back to... Okay, do that because I've got to get back to Sue Stash. I've got to ask you about your mom. And I want to shout out some of the people watching this live
Starting point is 00:18:40 because there's a very vibrant, active FOTM community that actually shows up thursday at seven o'clock you're late by the way but we'll talk about that in a minute and uh is on the live stream to discuss all this so you say your part then i want the baton back oh okay uh well i was that what you said you wanted to say you know i did but then i was like trying to get cam back on the mic what you don't i think if i'm like back here. Yeah, that seems like that works. It's a low priority.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Okay, so I got this other kind of project going. A couple of things. Remember I told you about the Gibby thing last time? John Gibbons? Yeah, that's amazing. That's nothing to do with wrestling, but I'm going to be doing something with him on Monday. Is that happening Monday?
Starting point is 00:19:18 Monday. Is that a podcast? It could be. So not a TMDS production. It's not yet. Doesn't mean it can't be. The other thing is that I'm working on this other sort of wrestling passion project, and I'm going to the New Jersey this weekend to interview,
Starting point is 00:19:35 and this is going to mean nothing to you, Mike. Still, I want to hear the name. Cam, I think you already know this. I know about this one. But there's a wrestler from the 90s who hasn't wrestled in over 20 years that's coming out of retirement for a big street fight in new jersey at like a bingo hall in new jersey alabama what's his name and his name is barry horowitz okay do you know barry uh he is a 90s wrestler who didn't he he won very few matches was that his handle when he wrestled barry horowitz yes it's no wonder that he didn't.
Starting point is 00:20:06 He was an enhancement talent. A horror. But I'm going to go to New Jersey and film his first match in 20 years. People are like yelling. And get a chance to, I'm going to get a chance to spend time with Barry Horowitz. And I'm very much looking forward to what that's going to be. Andrew Ward's very excited about the Barry Horowitz and I'm very much looking forward to what that's going to be. Andrew Ward's very excited about the Barry Horowitz. He says he's a total jobber.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Pat him on the back. Yeah, that's what Horowitz does. Okay. That's what Horowitz does. Andrew Ward's excited about this and I'm excited you're excited. Are you excited, Cam? Totally. Back to the stew sessions. Hey, can I just shout out is Trudy watching the live stream right now?
Starting point is 00:20:45 I don't know. Okay. Because I was going to hope she was going to be hearing this live. But I'll basically just say that... Apparently Humble Howard called out the Stew Sessions this morning. Okay, yeah. I was on. So I'm on Humble and Fred this morning.
Starting point is 00:20:58 And I mentioned Toast. Yeah. And he said, Oh, I saw there was something on the social media about stew sessions and he and i and then we talked about that's great two sessions for a little bit so i thought and i enjoyed all six episodes i love seeing you on the screen it's like it's like good production values it's well done and there's an episode with your mom yes best episode of the bunch thank you your mom was stellar in this she's great right she, right? She's amazing. Because she's just being herself.
Starting point is 00:21:26 She's hilarious, and she seems to get it. I don't think my mom would get it. Your mom gets it. We know that your mom doesn't get it, clearly, with the terrible slander that she laid upon my great name. She thought you were Cam's mom. She thought Trudy was Cam's mom. I heard about this.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Close enough. It's a little embarrassing. Yeah, no, Trudy is my mom, for those that don't know. But she has been a part of many of my projects over the years. And we're talking, this is not new for her. She's been in on it for years. I mean, I once boxed my mother live on the internet back in 2008 or 2009. There's videos.
Starting point is 00:22:01 And I knocked her out in the third round. Good for you. But she's a trooper and she's down for whatever. She's game. out in the third round. Good for you. But, you know, she's a trooper and she's down for whatever. She's game. Yeah. She's game. Anyway, she was fantastic. Trudy, if you're watching live, just know you were fantastic in the stew sessions. And if any FOTMs
Starting point is 00:22:15 listening right now have not yet watched the stew sessions, watch it and tweet it. Very bingeable. They're not long. They're crisp and they're tight. And all the good things you want a video to be. And go bang off the six episodes and let us know what you think off this is stew i know i've asked you this before but where did you and adam whitener meet each other like for the first time because just for the listeners if anyone cares i used to work with adam who was in the stew sessions he's the at the actual owner of the studio like how did you guys meet for the first time uh it's a small world type stuff
Starting point is 00:22:45 uh basically jeff hanley the guy who directed uh and edited the stew sessions show yeah he was an he was the assistant director on my on my earlier films so scarecrows and the fact that i can even say my earlier films is like ridiculous sure my you know my earlier film work you check out your imdb yeah it's all it's IMDB he was the first assistant director for Scarecrows I would drive with him every day to set and he was telling me there's this new studio Astrolabs are going to be building
Starting point is 00:23:15 and he wanted me to meet the owner and I came down there and that's how I met Adam and Astrolab Studios for those that don't know is an independent production space that has sound stages. And it's a really phenomenal, phenomenal place for content creators and, you know, big shoots too. And can I ask some more Stu Session questions? Like, is this 2019?
Starting point is 00:23:36 The stuff we're seeing is 2019? That particular stuff, we were shooting all that aiming to do this big comeback. And then the pandemic happened and kind of shut everything off. So it got shelved, I guess, for a little bit. It got shelved. And then it was like, well, we've got all these things. Let's put them out. So was there an original plan that had to be abandoned?
Starting point is 00:23:52 Yes. And then it was like, okay, I thought so. Because why else would you hold on to it for two years, right? Well, we were going to shoot music videos and record all these songs. At the end, there's like a text on it. I don't want to know spoilers, but at the end, there's a text on the screen that suggests you went to LA and made a new album. Can you speak to that? That is true. So there is
Starting point is 00:24:07 But when did you do it? Because we did 76 weeks of Pandemic Friday. So this would have been right before Pandemic Friday. This would have been in December and January Oh, of 2019. Of 2019 into 20. When you were at Palma's Kitchen for TMLX. Correct. And then when I went back to LA
Starting point is 00:24:23 I was there for a month in between Dark Side of the Ring lastX. Correct. And then when I went back to LA, I was there for a month in between Dark Side of the Ring last year. Wow. And, you know, I don't sit idle. I don't like to sit around and do nothing. So we got to... No, because a rolling stone gathers no moss. Right.
Starting point is 00:24:35 So I had to figure out stuff to do, be creative. Wow. So yeah, there's about seven or eight songs. There's actually a hip hop sort of record label that's going to be putting out the music. Tommy Boy. And nobody's going to hear it and it's going to be fine. But you's going to be putting out the music. Tommy Boy. And nobody's going to hear it
Starting point is 00:24:46 and it's going to be fine. But you are going to put this out. Yeah. I know FOTM will hear it. Cam Bria will listen to it. Totally. Oh, and I know, before we,
Starting point is 00:24:52 because Cam, I also care about you, but you know, Stu's fucking amazing. No, this is good. It's hard to like, I just want to say thanks to all the FOTMs
Starting point is 00:24:59 who watch us live for Toast because we got lots of jams and in a minute, I'm going to play some songs. Any feedback from the people who listened to previous episodes? Well, here, let me just shout out the people. $5 Shake is here.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Cambrio, Clearly Entranced, Dan J, Greg, Habeas Kirkus, Canada Kev, Lady Shat, Lady Shat, Lieve Fumka. Juan is with her, of course. Monica, who's upstairs watching live. And I think Monica's going to make a cameo appearance on tomorrow morning's episode.
Starting point is 00:25:32 I heard about that with the Ryobi guys. Ryobi. That's going to be big. Them too. It's Ryobi. Them as well. You guys are burning.
Starting point is 00:25:38 Obi-Wan Ryobi. A whole lot more people to say. Rush Mike is here. And remind me to talk about TMLX Night in a minute. Oat Bran is here. Andrew Ward. But I'm saying like last time we were here, people sent say. Rush Mike is here. And remind me to talk about TMLX9 in a minute. Oat Bran is here. Andrew Ward. But I'm saying like last time we were here,
Starting point is 00:25:48 people sent you stuff and was like, oh, Cam's a jerk or whatever. Like there's no... No, people don't say that. That was because there was a big gap. That's been resolved. Steve Leggett, who was born in Dublin. So happy St. Patrick's Day to Steve Leggett.
Starting point is 00:26:03 That's a fun guy. This too shall pass. YYZ Gord. Lots of great people here St. Patrick's Day to you, Leggett. That's a fun guy. This too shall pass. YYZ Gord. Lots of great people here live. It's 1236 here. 1236. I don't think he's here yet. Not today.
Starting point is 00:26:11 I know that Ian's going to come later. Ian's going to come later. Is it really? Yeah. Oh, okay. Happy Purim. Okay. What is that exactly?
Starting point is 00:26:19 Can you explain it to me? It's like Jewish Halloween. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's happy. You know, we get two Christmases. We also get two Halloweens. Because I saw in the chat the top secret FOTM DM group. There was talk of this, and I wasn't certain what we were celebrating today.
Starting point is 00:26:33 But what do you mean it's like Jewish Halloween? Exactly. Well, what do you, you know, if I say something like that? That's based on All Saints Day. Like, that's sort of like this. People dress up in costumes, and they they go around and they get gold coins, chocolate coins, triangle-shaped cookies with filling
Starting point is 00:26:51 called hamantashen. So are you missing family events to be here? No, because you have to be really... Orthodox? Well, Orthodox for sure is celebrated. But the modern sort of Jew-ish jew doesn't necessarily observe all the holidays like they used to this hamantaschen that's like a jam or something it's like a triangle shaped pastry that has sometimes jam in the middle like a filling sure and it's like a
Starting point is 00:27:19 sandwich cookie uh no sandwich it's like a triangle with like a like a Danish sort of looking little stickle of a little snide yes look at that oh look at that Toronto Mike on the cover I want to say
Starting point is 00:27:32 that there was a tweet from Cam Gordon look at that that's pretty amazing you should get that plaqued at like a Costco they plaque those things could you see this more
Starting point is 00:27:40 there's four color photos so I'm holding up the together section it looks like my mom on the back cover. Is that your mom? Doesn't it look like Trudy? Like a quick glance. I only bring this up because I saw this tweet from Cam that your parents brought the cover of the Together section to show you.
Starting point is 00:27:56 That's exciting. They see stuff in the Toronto Star and they're like, tell me about... It's like, did you know Mike was in the Toronto Star? It's like, oh my God, he's only tweeted about it like 30 did you know mike was in the toronto store it's like oh my god he's only like tweeted about it like 30 times already i tweeted once i just retweeted everyone else yes yes but they brought it over and yeah we did a great photo they were very excited oh wow did you watch the documentary yes i did It's so good. The first two episodes are great. The third is really sad, actually.
Starting point is 00:28:27 The first two are like, holy smokes. The first two are amazing. It's like the Beatles doc quality for hip-hop. Like seeing historic things taking place that you can't even believe you get to see. So that's how I went down this rabbit hole. He's like locked out of Instagram right now. So it's the third episode. Super sad.
Starting point is 00:28:48 The man is clearly suffering from, I don't know, bipolar disorder. His mom passed away. I think that's where he kind of went off the handle. Right. So for those who don't know, maybe Stu's the man to ask, what are we listening to right now? This is Through the Wire. Originally a Chaka Khan jam.
Starting point is 00:29:03 And you got Kanye West. This is the song that put him on the map. This is the first single he releases, right? Put him on the map. And he got into a car accident in which he needed to have his jaw wired shut. And he had the epiphany, much like I had one the other day, except his gut did very well for him, to rap a song Through the Wire,
Starting point is 00:29:25 literally sampled through the wire. Literally sampled through the wire. And listen to this. It's great. Well, listen for a minute, then I'll bring it down and play something else. So why am I playing this, right? Why the hell is Mike playing this? I'll explain in a moment here. This sounds like Yacht Rock to me.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Breezy. Good year, is this, Stu? Hey. Is this Christopher Ward? This is Chaka Khan? Okay. This is actually the real Through the Wire. Well, it's actually Through the Fire.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Through the Fire, yeah. Through the Fire. Yeah. But I'm going somewhere here, and then we're going to introduce the topic. I love Chaka Khan. You know, one of the first sort of like rap-ish kind of, you know, the big rub to get hip-hop to get, you know, mainstream. You know, Chaka Khan had that Chaka Chaka Chaka Khan. Yes, yes. And had break dancers and DJs and all this imagery that no one had ever really seen on a mainstream level.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Pop pumped us up right here. It's beautiful. Cheers, sir. Thank you, Great Lakes Brewery. To the limit, to the wall For a chance to be with you I'd gladly risk it all So, Stu, good ears. Good ears that you hear the yacht rock in that because the reason I'm playing this is because
Starting point is 00:30:57 so I watched that documentary about Kanye. I want to look up the personnel on that song. Well, hold on. No, this is part of the fun fact is this, and then you can look it up, but basically the writing credits for Through the Wire, the very first hit by Kanye West, the first single by Kanye West, Through the Wire's writing
Starting point is 00:31:14 credits are a mirror of the writing credits for Chaka Khan's Through the Fire. Yeah. A writing credit belongs to you ready for this name I'm going to draw up on you? Should I guess? Yeah, guess, guess. Which means this person whose name we're about to reveal is one of the writers of Through the Wire,
Starting point is 00:31:32 Kanye's first hit. Think he ought rock. Yeah, no, I'm guessing that there could be some Toto dudes on this track, but I want to say, I'm trying to figure out who her producer might have been, and I'm trying to figure it's Quincy Jones. Keep going. Messing with her.
Starting point is 00:31:49 How about Christopher Cross? Good guess. Now I'm going to give you a clue. Ready? Kenny Loggins. I'm going to give you a clue. Michael McDonald? Tears are not enough. Oh. David Foster. Correct.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Really? David Foster. You can tell Foster co-wrote Kanye's first hit. Who was the other writer? You look that up while I introduce the theme for this week. Hey, Mike, can I ask you? I'm going to put you on the spot for something. Correct me if I'm wrong. And this is your chance also to segue from whatever you're going to say. This might have been one of David
Starting point is 00:32:25 Foster's first hits too. Early 80s. He had hits before that. No, I think it's more like 83, 82. Well, okay. I want you to segue from whatever you're going to talk about now to the GD Becker episode you want to talk about. Oh, it's not his first hit at all. This is from 1984. This sounds like a 70s song. So Mike, you interviewed Chuck D
Starting point is 00:32:42 in 2019. Yes. Correct me if I'm wrong. You were going to interview Nas D in 2019. Yes. Correct me if I'm wrong. You were going to interview Nas the next year. I was going to say, is this happening? Because I see Nas is coming back this summer to play that same event. And are you going and should we put it in our calendar? Because I totally want to see that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:58 Thank you for the reminder. I'm going to reach out to the guy who was hooking me up. There's a guy in charge of the media relations at Beer Fest who is in love with Toronto Mike. And I was going to have that hookup. And then the pandemic hit. So the pandemic fucked with Stu's plans. And it fucked with my plans too.
Starting point is 00:33:15 But yes, I'm going to revisit that. And yeah, I'll get back to you on that. You'll get a tight 15 minutes with Nas backstage. And we're just going to talk about like pick, not pickering, but like we're going to have a Sudbury. Totally. What are you going to say there, Stu? I can't. Want to read the name of some of the personnel here on the Chaka Khan album?
Starting point is 00:33:31 Is it Toto people? It's Steve Lukather. No surprise there. No joke. And also Steve Piccaro. Who's Hawk? Like of the Road Warriors? Yes. So I knew we liked this for a reason. Wow. Oh, Michael Cimbella looked maniac.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Yeah. Packing vocals on track four. Holy shit. This is the whole album. And remember, the credits for Through the Fire are duplicated for Through the Wire. There is no Kanye West writing credit on Through the Wire. There should be because he wrote the lyrics. That I don't
Starting point is 00:34:03 have an answer for except they just took whoever wrote Through the Fire and got the writing credit for Through the Wire. Wait, what because he wrote the lyrics. So that I don't have an answer for except they just took whoever wrote Through the Fire got the writing credit for Through the Wire. Wait, what year is that track? Like 2003? Through the Wire?
Starting point is 00:34:11 2002? 2003? When was Jesus Walks a big hit? Yeah, around that. Almost like 20 years ago. Like Kanye. He doesn't get
Starting point is 00:34:18 a songwriter credit on that. Yeah, I'm telling you. He had to give up all the publishing in order to use the sample. See, I thought you might find this mind blow fun that the first Kanye hit is co-written by David Voss. I'm telling you. I still have to give up all the publishing. I did all my homework. In order to use the sample. See, I thought you might find this mind blow fun. September 2003.
Starting point is 00:34:26 That the first Kanye hit is co-written by David Foster. I'm sorry. Why are you bringing this up? Just for fun. Just for fun. It's a fun fact. It's fun. But now, I'm going to introduce today's topic.
Starting point is 00:34:34 And I'm going to introduce today's. How about this? Sorry to interrupt you. Go ahead. But about that documentary, Cootie. Yeah. He directed the video for that. Yeah, but he talks about it in the documentary.
Starting point is 00:34:44 Yeah, no, I'm saying. Who's Cootie? You got to watch the movie. He's his buddy for that. Yeah, but he talks about it in the documentary. Yeah, no, I'm saying. Who's Cootie? You got to watch the movie. He's his buddy from Chicago. Check it out. Comes out to New York. Check it out. Drops everything.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Goes to New York to capture video of this phenom, this young phenom producer named Kanye West. Kanye to the. Right. Check it out. Check it out. So I'm going to introduce today's theme by playing a few songs. So don't even react. I'm just going to play a bit of by uh playing a few songs so don't even react i'm just going to play a bit of each song you ready oh yeah i love this underrated gem
Starting point is 00:35:14 this kind of sounds like the spoons a a bit. I know it's Pointer Sisters, but... This is a jam. The Pointer Sisters were on top of the world. They had a nice main event run. Maybe four or five years, but like... Big deal. Does that feel good, Jan? They like actually got bigger when their
Starting point is 00:35:43 main... when the main girl left. Right, right. That's rare. When does that happen? I guess Van Halen maybe kept going when David Lee Rock left. But they didn't get bigger. They were already big. But you're right.
Starting point is 00:35:52 It doesn't happen very often. You know where it happened? ACDC. ACDC it happened. Absolutely. And it kind of happened with, let's feel, Genesis. Like Genesis had bigger hits with Phil Collins. Like when Peter Gabriel.
Starting point is 00:36:07 Bigger hits. I guess Chicago. Peter Cetera. Okay. Okay, so Jump For My Love. So you're with me here, guys? Okay, so that is Pointer Sisters, okay? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Nothing exciting on the Jump For for my love personnel by the way that could have been a parentheses gem jump for my love iconic q107 in the morning. Stu's out here loving it. Get up, folks. And nothing lets me down You got it tough I've seen the toughest around
Starting point is 00:37:00 And I know Baby, just how you feel This was the first piece of music I've ever owned that was like adult music. There you go. Is this off YouTube? It sounds very tinny. Yes. Look up this one. So gentlemen, what do those three songs have in common? They're all awesome songs.
Starting point is 00:38:02 Okay, so we've got Jump for Your Love by the Pointer Sisters. It's actually called Jump. It's called Jump. Jump. We've got Jump. Is Love by the Pointer Sisters. It's actually called Jump. It's called Jump. Jump. We've got Jump. Is there parentheses? There is parentheses. Jump by Van Halen and Jump by Criss Cross. Right.
Starting point is 00:38:12 What do they have in common? I don't know. Stu, what do you think? Before I tell you what they have in common, do you want to talk about songwriting credits on this song? There's like 200 writers on this song. And they all have Wikipedia pages, all these people. There's some big names here.
Starting point is 00:38:29 That's crazy. Which of these two young men passed away? One of these two guys died. Samples, I Want You Back from Jackson 5. Funky Worm by Ohio Players. Impeach the President by the Honey Drippers. How I Could Just Kill a Man by Cypress Hill. Where is that?
Starting point is 00:38:52 I'm surprised this came out after How I Could Just Kill a Man. Produced by Jermaine Dupri. We've played this song before. We've talked about this. Tots and Teens. We said everything for Toast. No, no, I'm saying... I know.
Starting point is 00:39:03 Anyway, Mike... They all have the same name. Okay, so... Oh, shit, they do. They all have the same name. Wow, Cam's mind is blowing there. Okay, so today we're each going to kick out three songs that we love that share the same name. Sorry, we love these songs?
Starting point is 00:39:19 Well, you have to like these. Yeah, you have to dig these songs. You have to love these songs. Okay, I didn't realize that was... Otherwise, what's the point of all this? Anyway, whatever. Do you not love your three jams? Luckily, it works out.
Starting point is 00:39:27 Text me the real three you want. So we're each going to kick out three jams that we love that share the same name. See, I just repeated it again in case people didn't catch it the first time. Thank you to Great Lakes Brewery. I'm enjoying my burst. Thank you to Palma Pasta, who is catering my daughter's sixth birthday party on Saturday. Fabulous. Happy birthday.
Starting point is 00:39:49 Wait, what happened there? Palma Pasta's catering your... Is Wilner invited? No, but you are. You want to come? I might. And then Sunday, if you want to make it a double hitter, my son, my seven-year-old, who's almost eight, is in the gold medal game at Mimico Arena.
Starting point is 00:40:06 Whoa. Oh, really? So this is the end of the hockey season then. Yeah, the final. Sunday is the final piece. Big weekend, Micah. Shout out to Ridley Funeral Home. Much love to StickerU.com.
Starting point is 00:40:17 That's where we're going to get our Stu Sessions stickers and decals. Is that happening? Is that a thing? That's a thing. And then I'm going to play a few jams before we get a review from Stu on the Canna Cabana swag he took home last week. And Cam, I've got something for you.
Starting point is 00:40:33 I've got some stuff for you guys. Okay, we'll save it. We're going to meander through some jams. I like the gift-giving portion. I know, it's nice. Is that going to be a recurring thing? Yeah, we've got some things we're working on. So, Ryobi, which by the way, tomorrow's episode features a lovely young woman named Becky from Ryobi.
Starting point is 00:40:50 And we're kicking out the director of marketing. We're kicking out the Power Tool Jams tomorrow morning. So I will tell you a little more about Ryobi and their OnePlus system. Hammer. Frankie Screws. You're going to dig it.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Chainsaw Charlie. Cam Cam any words before your first jam spoiler alert this song has the same name as my next two jams actually this could be one Stu's could be like oh I haven't thought of this in 25 years Backstreet Boys drums yeah sad but true
Starting point is 00:41:42 wow I haven't thought about this song Wow. I haven't thought about this song in 20 some odd years. Wow. You always blow my mind, man yeah this is a good song does that feel like a inspirational jam there's a bunch of kind of songs that sound like this from that era. Exactly. You know, like, gotta be strong.
Starting point is 00:42:28 You gotta be tough. You gotta be... Oh, God. Who sang that? I want to say, like, Tyrese or something. No. It was a female. Yeah. Gotta be listening to the...
Starting point is 00:42:37 Who's Tyrese? Tyrese is an actor, singer. He was in the Transformers movies. Yeah. If anyone knows Gotta Be, gotta be. Dreams can come true. Shout out to Johnny O, who just joined us on the Transformers movies. If anyone knows Gotta Be, Gotta Be. Dreams can come true. Shout out to Johnny O who just joined us on the Pirate live stream.
Starting point is 00:42:50 Thank you Ian Service for putting this together. He's there as well now and that's at live.torontomike.com Inspirational pop. This could be a mini quiz for Stu Stone. Who's the artist? I can't think for the life of me. I can't place it.
Starting point is 00:43:05 Gabrielle. Oh, that't place it. Gabrielle. Oh, that's Gabrielle. Gabrielle, who... Did she have other songs? She did it in her native UK. I had no idea she's British. So this... Dreams can come true.
Starting point is 00:43:19 This is like... This makes me feel good. Like my Twitter update yesterday. There's no such thing as a bad day. You mean your tweet. Yeah. That too. It was all over social media.
Starting point is 00:43:32 I'm going to have to download this song. There you go. So this was the number one hit in the UK. I was surprised this song only... You said Desiree? Is that the name of the other artist? Desiree. Desiree, yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:41 Very good. I got to give credit to... You got to be strong. You got to be wiser. Desiree, yeah. Very good. I gotta give credit to... You gotta be strong, you gotta be wiser. Habeas Kirkus. Yeah, so Gabrielle was only a one-in-wonder in the US. She did have 10
Starting point is 00:43:53 top 10 hits in her native UK, including a number one hit called Rise that had an unauthorized sample of Knockin' on Heaven's Door. Do we know that? Rise the Sun, Gabrielle? No. I would remember a Knock Knocking on Heaven's Door. Wow. Do we know that? Rise the sun. I would remember a Knocking on Heaven's Door sample, though. I'd remember that.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Rise up, rise up. There you go. Shout out to... Is that the Parachute Club? Yes, that's Parachute Club. Yes, who lives on the island and is related through marriage to Jean Valaitis, our FOTM. Okay.
Starting point is 00:44:22 So, Gabrielle is from the Hackney region of London. This is going to be the Esri Geography Corner. Here's some other famous folks from this part of London, home of Gabrielle. So, we've got Colin Firth. That's a big deal. That's a big... So, we've got Idris Elba.
Starting point is 00:44:39 That's a big... Stringer Bell. That's Stringer fucking Bell. He was in The Wire. Yeah. I read the liner notes. Here's a very different musician from Gabrielle. Sid Vicious.
Starting point is 00:44:47 Not the wrestler. Shout out to Ridley Funeral Home. And then a couple of other names. We've got the Cray Brothers. I don't know the Cray Brothers. Do you know? Notorious British Gangsters. I don't know the Cray Brothers. I know the Gallagher Brothers. And last but not least, Tony Blair. Okay, there you go.
Starting point is 00:45:03 Tony Blair. Now, does this song remind you of another top 10 hit from around that time? I gave Mike, it's going to be a mind blow. The original version of this song actually had another song sampled that was actually, I don't know if she got sued or just a cease and desist, but then when you think of the song that got ceased and desisted, this song. Can I try to think of what it is?
Starting point is 00:45:24 Yeah. Think of Nice and Smooth. Do you want me to play this yeah yeah like literally chapman yeah i guess but nah well hang in there hang in there hang in there slow your roll maybe the melody of uh the top line slow your. It does fit in nicely, but let it simmer a bit here. Is this a mash? Nope. This is the original cut. Oh, this is the original cut of Dreams? Yeah, this is the original cut of Dreams.
Starting point is 00:45:56 But not the single. Yeah. This was like a 12-inch single that came out and then it got deleted because they got a cease and desist from Tracy Chapman's record label. Wait, Tracy Chapman didn't want to take the payday? Not into it. Not into it.
Starting point is 00:46:10 I'm surprised. Wow, they brought out all the... You justify my love. Yeah, very much of that era for sure. My love. Shout out to Dana. Or like Duran Duran, Come Undone, like Keep On Moving, Soul to Soul.
Starting point is 00:46:27 That's your favorite band, Enigma. Enigma, yes, exactly. Anyway, we can kill it. Tracy Chapman had no interest in being sample. You can spin this song. This was a big hit. This was all over radio. Probably like the Hog 640.
Starting point is 00:46:48 Yeah, that era. great song thank you um okay you're off to a great start the only and monica pointed this out she goes you know after you play your first song people know what the next song is gonna be that's okay you don't know what we're gonna play i guess who knows who knows i don't want to ruin it so i'm up next right because we still closes us right okay i'm up next you right? Because Stu closes us, right? Okay, I'm up next. You guys ready? Always. Let's just get into it here. Oh, wow. There we go. Love these guys. Low-key, I'm Connor.
Starting point is 00:47:15 I might play some more of them tomorrow, actually. One of the best live acts that you can see. Shout out to Jon Kastner. Shout out to Jokeroo on the live stream I'm not alone. I'm not alone. I'm like a one-eyed million faces. I'm up to your front door.
Starting point is 00:47:56 And I am gone. And I am gone. I'm not alone. Make me feel so bright. Make me feel brilliant. There's a way. It's like a show. It's like a show. It's like a show.
Starting point is 00:48:17 It's like a show. Party now. Sounds like a Canadian, like, it's like this song will be on the grass. So can I tell you though, no, can I tell you, if you, if I could only keep one, like a Canadian, like, this song would be on Degrassi or something. So can I tell you, though, no, can I tell you, if I could only keep one genre, one whatever, one scene or whatever, I'd take the 90s alt-rock out of Canada. Sure, I love all of it. Fucking love the Doughboys.
Starting point is 00:48:35 It's probably, like, the only time in, I guess that's not true. I was going to say it's the only time where, like, Canadians really, like, got around Canadian music. But, obviously, Drake and all these others. I should introduce you to Celine Dion and Shania Twain. But I'm saying there was a whole scene. Justin Bieber. I'm talking about there was a whole scene there of all these acts, especially in the alt-rock world where...
Starting point is 00:48:54 Guess who? Go to these shows. No, dude, I'm all in on this. Best shows. Do you know, okay, so here's how it all comes together. Some quick fun facts. People might know, might not, but whatever.
Starting point is 00:49:02 No joke. I like, when I'm going to bed, like Monica, I get the bathroom first, and then Monica gets it after me this is the ritual okay then i get just brushing my teeth going pee whatever i'm now in the uh bedroom i always i always listen to fucking fluke like i think as a ritual i listen to Rusty before bed before bed like I listen I listen to misogyny I like misogyny I like the cadence of misogyny
Starting point is 00:49:29 misogyny before bed totally love it okay so I listen to Fluke from Rusty all the time before bed okay
Starting point is 00:49:35 Rusty comes out of the fucking Doughboys I know we've talked about this I've had the Doughboys in the basement but guitarist
Starting point is 00:49:41 Scott McAuliffe he's the Doughboys guy who leaves he leaves the Doughboys guy who leaves he leaves the Doughboys and he forms Rusty that's his band Rusty Scott McAuliffe and of course Rusty's been in this fucking basement which still forget Chuck T. Jessica Paré is her name. Jessica Paré.
Starting point is 00:50:25 Yeah, I stood right beside her. Okay. So, did you know that this album, this is from Crush, which is their big album. Crush. Did you know it was produced by not only Daniel Ray, but Dave the Rave Ogilvie is one of the producers of Crush. Did you know that? He's... Ben Ogilvie?
Starting point is 00:50:41 Was he a skinny puppy? Yes, he's a skinny puppy guy. Shout out to Chris Shepard. There you go. Now, Crush, which came out in 93. What a time for music that was. That was a lyric of Neil Young lyric. RIP to Ziggy from Connelly and Crush. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Shout out to Ridley Funeral Home. So that song we listened to is called Shine. That was their lead single. And that's their biggest fucking hit to date it's like a shine it won a casby award for best single in 94 do you guys know what casby stands for canadian artists selected by you do you know what they were originally called the you knows do you know who started them david marston you're very good you know all that we talk about it all the time. Starting point is 00:51:27 Give me some flyers. The pandemic is over. We're not wearing masks. We're high-fiving. Fuck masks. This is episode 1016, right? It better be. Episode 1021 is 102.1. Honestly, though, I know all that shit, too. Cam and I were cut from the same box.
Starting point is 00:51:43 I expect you to know it. I don't expect him to know it. Episode 1021 is already in the can. This almost never happened. It's a pre-record. I can't wait. I pre-recorded because I needed to have that number. Although Wiseblood says just drop it now. Who cares? Fuck that. We wait until 1021.
Starting point is 00:51:59 But in this episode, I have people like David Marsden, Ivor Hamilton, Scott Turner, Mae Potts, Liz Janik. Liz? Yeah, another Liz. Danny, whatever. Danny Elwell. Danny Elwell.
Starting point is 00:52:11 Humble Howard Glassman, Freddie Patterson. We have even Jay Brody. Captain Phil Evans. Robbie Jay. Like, this is essentially the... Vishna. No, but the ongoing history... Oh, Bob Lillette.
Starting point is 00:52:22 The ongoing history of... Did I mentionillette. The ongoing history of... Did I mention Scott Turner? The ongoing history of CFNY. What about Alan Cross? Did you say history? Alan Cross is in this fucking episode. It's amazing. We talk about...
Starting point is 00:52:34 Brother? Is brother in there? No, because he had to work. He was scheduled to be there. How are you going to do an episode without him? He had to work. It's pre-recorded. Can't you get him in?
Starting point is 00:52:41 It's a big mess, Micah. I tried. Can't shoehorn him in as a post-credits scene? Can we lose the mic-er thing? Episode 1021, let's do it. There's a couple of fucking bombs, truth bombs in this. One of them is this, ready for this, Alan Cross tells a story
Starting point is 00:52:53 how when he was program director at CFNY 102.1 The Edge, Dean Blundell would go in his office, he says, all the time and beg him to fire Dave Bookman because he said Dave Book bookman bookie sucked so blend blend ls blend this story is from alan cross bookie blend l going into alan cross's office and telling him fire bookie he sucks as an age rule freddie p almost lost his fucking mind
Starting point is 00:53:18 when he's on the call he's like who does that like who who does that anyway and doing that for bookie i've said enough there's so many truth bonds like that mike could i just say one comment about john castner yeah um what if mike would have said no there would have said it no that this is actually interesting so that i feel like systems go i feel like we need a segment of the show not it wasn't not that so john castor was on the turned out a punk podcast with Damien Abrams. Fuck that. And it was just interesting because he mentioned he said you just said you know I would pick
Starting point is 00:53:50 the 90s can con if I could pick any genre. John Castor said he had no affinity for all of those bands because if you think of the trajectory of the Doughboys even though they did play shows like Head and Change Your Heart. Because they go back to 87. Yeah they sort of predated it and they were touring so much in the States. Like they go back to 87. Yeah, they sort of predated it and they were touring
Starting point is 00:54:05 so much in the States. Right. Like Pursuit of Happiness. Yeah, like Casters saying, oh, we played at the Gilman Street Theater. We're playing in the UK. So no appreciation
Starting point is 00:54:12 for that scene? He just said they never felt part of it. Like they said they wouldn't be felt at home on a big shiny tune. I can tell you I'm working on getting him
Starting point is 00:54:21 on Toronto Mike because he listened to the John Bora episode of Toronto Mike. Oh, wow. to the John Bora episode of Toronto Mike. Oh wow. And he loved it. And so we, we are now Instagram friends and there's a little back and forth.
Starting point is 00:54:30 I'm working on getting John Cassidy. I don't actually know where he is actually, but I'm working on that. Stu, any words before we kick out your first jam? Any words before I kick out my first jam? I would say that this, the title that you're going to discover quite simply.
Starting point is 00:54:49 Monica's going to love this song. I'll just say that right now. She's going to love this. Maybe some people would use the title of the song to describe Mike. Yes. Me again. And I'm back. Maybe MF. Not niceF Not nice
Starting point is 00:55:08 Specifically Not nice Cannon hats I hung out at MF's house Since we last recorded Just recently You know the interesting thing About this category
Starting point is 00:55:18 Is that you have The three songs That we all came to the table With the same name But it's like How do you rank them You know Because like People can guess What my next songs Are going to be But what's going to be three songs that we all came to the table with the same name, but it's like, how do you rank them? You know?
Starting point is 00:55:28 Because, like, people can guess what my next songs are going to be, but what's going to be second? What's going to be first? And likewise with Cam's. And besides, no one comes here for the fucking music, okay? They come for the stew. The banter. They come for the Cam.
Starting point is 00:55:38 Yeah. Sometimes they come for the mic. You know Dallas Austin? No, I know Dallas Good just passed away music producer no i mean i know dallas green i want it i'd love to pull up dallas austin's credit 316 was yesterday yeah that's right steve austin it would literally blow your mind cam i want you to look i'm gonna open up this page this is a list of songs produced by Dallas Austin. And I'm like hurting my fingers scrolling. That should be Austin Dallas.
Starting point is 00:56:09 I think I saw 20 fingers. Do you see how many fucking songs this guy's done? He produced this? Yes. Shout out to Left Eye Lisa Lopez. JT Money. I've got some interest. Okay, we'll let you go first and then we'll do the really beautiful.
Starting point is 00:56:23 The song's called Creep, by the way. It's a song about infidelity in a relationship. Shout out to Andre Rice. Creeping around. And it's actually based off real, one of the TLC members had, what's her name? T-Boz. She was talking about how she used to creep around. She was talking about how she used to creep around And ironically enough
Starting point is 00:56:45 Lisa Left Eye Lopez Did not like this song And the message She did not agree with it And she didn't want to put this out In fact she threatened in the music video To wear tape over her mouth During the performances
Starting point is 00:57:00 And made a big stink They almost didn't even put it out And guess what It comes out in It's recorded in 93 It comes out in, it's recorded in 93. It comes out Halloween 94. It becomes a huge hit.
Starting point is 00:57:12 They were wearing like silk pajamas, I remember. Yeah, the video's got this sort of iconic video. Very sexy. The song ends up winning a Grammy Award for best R&B performance. The video, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. In the United States of America, the song goes to number one.
Starting point is 00:57:30 Now, how about in Canada? Where does this song go? If it's number one in America, what number is it in Canada? 19, 12. This is going to blow your mind, guys. 46.
Starting point is 00:57:44 41. Americans prefer the R&B genre. 12. This is going to blow your mind, guys. 46. Did not chart. 41. What the fuck? Americans prefer the R&B genre. Number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 only gets to number 41 on the Canada Top Singers chart. But this was all over radio and much music and stuff. This was not obscure at all. I'm not sure how that chart is assembled. Give me Wise Blood on line two.
Starting point is 00:58:01 What publication is that? Like the musician or Canadian musician? Is it Chart? Chart Attack. Chart Attack. Cam, did you ever write for Chart Attack? I did. Five years. That's a big deal.
Starting point is 00:58:14 I actually mentioned that to Levi Fumka during our coffee date today. Juan, don't get jealous. We love those songs, though. We love those songs that the band didn't even want to put out. And then they become the band's biggest hit. I feel like Nirvana didn't smell like Teen Spirit. Interestingly enough, you think of TLC, you think of Waterfalls being their big... That's a big one.
Starting point is 00:58:35 Don't go change. That's a big one. I always feel like when I hear that, that that's made up, though. That's sort of like, oh, I was just at the mall and I got discovered. I became a model. Like, I don't know. I feel like it's never as simple. On that note, could you do
Starting point is 00:58:48 your... What episode of mine did you want to talk about again? One last point I just want to drop here. I want you to remember... Say what you're going to say, but I just want to point out one last fun fact. I want you to highlight the fact the song was recorded in 1993
Starting point is 00:59:04 and it's called Creep. Excellent. And it's a bit of a jam. And you dig this jam. Okay. Wait, could I just ask one clarification? Sure. In this case, creep is a verb, right?
Starting point is 00:59:16 I guess so. Right. Because you're creeping. Creeping up on you. Up on you. Creeping up on you. In theory, if the other Creep songs, Creep is a noun,
Starting point is 00:59:25 like is this disqualified? Does this still count? Hypothetically. Dude, of course it qualifies. It's about the same name. It doesn't have to be. What is wrong with you? We should look at like you and Chuck D.
Starting point is 00:59:35 I know. I'm just looking at ourselves here. You're like Prince, like you only listen to Prince. That's right. Is that true? Okay, please, if we can have a moment, Cam, what did you want to say about the Jeannie Becker episode? Well, I just want to commend you, Mike.
Starting point is 00:59:47 What a great listen. A big Jeannie Becker fan. And happy birthday, Jeannie Becker, turning 70 this year. How long was that in the making, like you and Jeannie? 70 years. So here's how it works. I produced a podcast for the Women's Brain Health Initiative called Mind Over Matter with Naomi Parnas
Starting point is 01:00:07 is the host of this, right? I feel like I know her. You might know her. Did she go to Thorne Lee? She was from up there. She's about 40. I think we talked about this the other day, 41.
Starting point is 01:00:15 I think I do know her. She was on CTV for a long time, CTV Toronto. Ask her, maybe she knows. She's a reporter with CTV. She's in the media. Sorry, in the communications. She's good friends of Dana. Dana's got some years onTV. She's in the media. Sorry, in the communications. She's good friends with Dana.
Starting point is 01:00:26 Dana's got some years on her. What's troubling Dana? See, I love that. She killed Joyce. I fucking love that shit. Okay, so I do this show called Mind Over Matter. The intro and outro for this podcast series is actually read by Jeannie Becker.
Starting point is 01:00:40 So I'm capturing this via Zoom. I'm producing it, basically. So I got to know her. Then I also produced a show called The Feminine Warriors. Of course you do. For Helen Tansey and Diane Wiseman. I guess Helen Tansey is a photographer, very good photographer.
Starting point is 01:00:53 She photographed, she knew Jeannie Becker from photography. She related to Claire Tansey. I don't know. So that means I had, I think, three or four Zooms with Jeannie Becker before she ever appeared on Tron Mike. And I just charmed her, you know four Zooms with Jeannie Becker before she ever appeared on Charm Ike. And I just charmed her, you know. As you do.
Starting point is 01:01:07 As you do. And then she agreed to, and I didn't realize. You know, Mike practices those charming skills when he bikes over to the Zanzibar. I only make requests, and I didn't go in the Zanzibar, although there's no problem if I did, but okay. So, Jeannie Becker, you enjoyed the episode. I thoroughly enjoyed it too, although I have to say she surprised me with the oh, I gotta go, because I had a lot more stuff I wanted to cover. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:31 And I had to kind of quickly... Busy lady. She's a busy lady. What a resume though. But at the end there, there was a frenetic ending because she says she has to go, and then I want to talk about 9-11. So now she's in 9-11, and then she talks about the end of fashion television in 2012, and she starts crying, and I didn't see it coming. Like suddenly she's weeping about the end of fashion television in 2012 and she starts crying and I didn't see it coming like suddenly she's weeping about the end
Starting point is 01:01:48 of fashion television. There's a lot of range there. There's a lot going on in that episode. And weirdly she talked about editing a magazine called Sir. Do you remember this part? Yeah to Sir With Love. Yeah I actually remember that magazine and I remember having the other editor of Sir this guy named
Starting point is 01:02:04 David Livingston. Do you know i presume but he he was a long time uh toronto fashion writer and he came to a canon i don't know any fashion writers this is like a digital camera like a pr event i was running and he actually said in the middle of his briefing yeah boring and he's no longer with us so i shouldn't speak at least he didn't ignore your emails like I did. But at the time, I remember being horrified and now I just think it's like, to quote Jeannie Becker, I thought it was fabulous. And Jeannie Becker talks about being a mime,
Starting point is 01:02:34 right? And she talks about how that was cool in the 70s and she was a mime. And then I found a photo. Somebody sent me a photo of Jeannie Becker as a mime in the 70s. The same mime teacher as David Bowie? No, there was like that French guy that was a... Marcel Marceau. She was coached in Paris by the guy behind Marcel Marceau.
Starting point is 01:02:51 This is so amazing. Shout out to love Jeannie Becker. I just want to say Jeannie Becker drops a bomb in that episode. Wait, when I said that French guy, I don't think I was talking about Marcel Marceau. Is he the clown? He's the famous mime. No, no, I'm not talking about...
Starting point is 01:03:03 Oh, you're thinking of Saul Le... Yeah, Saul the clown. Okay, I thought you were talking about Marcel Marceau. No, he's like a French clown with like... Because I's the famous mime. Oh, you're talking about Saul the Clown. Okay, I thought you were talking about Marcelo. No, he's like a French clown with like... Because I only know one mime. Like the hobo
Starting point is 01:03:09 depression era clown. Yes. Emmett Kelly type. Yes. That was a Quebec French thing. Right. Okay. So, what am I saying here?
Starting point is 01:03:17 There's a truth bomb. What's a truth bomb? So, Jeannie Becker just mentions off that, you know, we're chatting. She says... Oh, this is big.
Starting point is 01:03:23 I think she's single. Erica M., she says. Uh-oh. Erica M's mom. Oh. Was best friends. What? With Marilyn Lightstone.
Starting point is 01:03:32 Oh, that's who has my videotape. Marilyn Lightstone. Yeah, remember, I want to get a hold of her. Marilyn Lightstone. Well, Ed Conroy might be able to help us. He does work for the Moses Zimer. I need to get in touch with Marilyn. Honestly, there's a connection because Ed can help us.
Starting point is 01:03:47 He's got Marilyn's ear. This is for that film, one of your early films. I don't know if you're like... Why do you have the world so fucking small? Keep going, Stu. I don't want to interrupt your truth bomb, but 30-second tidbit here. There's a show called Wish Kid,
Starting point is 01:04:01 which was a Macaulay Culkin cartoon in the... Richie Rich era. a Macaulay Culkin cartoon in the Richie Rich era. In the prime Macaulay Culkin era. Post Home Alone. Right. So Richie Rich. So I was a voiceover on that show, and Marilyn Lightstone played the mom on that show. So that's how I know her.
Starting point is 01:04:18 Wow. So one time she invited us over to her house post show, and my mom and I went there. It's beautiful. I think it was Moses' house. Yeah, because they lived together. So I had this VHS video cassette. I've told this story before on the show. I know, but now it has different content.
Starting point is 01:04:33 I had this video cassette of all of my little movies that I directed on my camcorder, which you would have starred in something. A young cam is in this fucking camcorder. She was so impressed. She was like, oh, I got to show this to Moses. Leave this with me. I'm going to show it to him. And I never got it back. Oh, my God. And I doubt she has impressed. She was like, I gotta show this to Moses. Leave this with me. I'm gonna show it to him.
Starting point is 01:04:45 And I never got it back. Oh my god. And I doubt she has it. But boy, what if she did? But let's find out. I can talk to Ed. If she had it, it would be like the greatest. I had a great convo of Ed the other day. I will talk to Ed. I would do anything to get that back. Ed liked the Jeannie Becker episode too. It was great. It was Ed Conway. Do you remember like home ec, like you had
Starting point is 01:05:01 to design a restaurant and you and I were in, we did like the JFK BLT. blt amongst other so is that on the tape is that gold on the tape that there's video of like okay with like a shot okay so hold on so you know who marilyn lightstone is i do she's also the beautiful voiceover that when i wherever i watch colombo and murder she wrote on uh what is it vision tv sure she's the voiceover artist that calmly speaks you through the program. Coming up next, Columbo starring Peter Falk.
Starting point is 01:05:32 We learn from Jeannie Becker that Erica M's mom is best friends with Marilyn. This is net new information. Is that how Erica got the gig? Yes. Let's follow these. Let's connect these fucking dots, Stu. Keep up with net new information. Right, well... Is that how Erica got the gig? Well, yes. Let's follow these...
Starting point is 01:05:46 Let's connect these fucking dots, Stu. Keep up with me, buddy. But what we know is that Erica comes from Montreal and ends up as a receptionist at City TV much. Yeah. Is it 299 Queen, I guess, at the time? Or is it still 99 Queen East, maybe? Okay.
Starting point is 01:06:00 So she's a receptionist, and then she works hard and climbs her way up the ladder. But we... And I'm not, this is not nothing. That's a crazy story. I don't want to discredit Erica. Yeah, it's a great story, right? But that story is a better story before you learn that her mom was best friends with Marilyn.
Starting point is 01:06:19 Because now you have somebody sleeping with Moses who is championing you because you know you're this erica's mom is uh maryland's best friend so all i'm saying is the story changes with that little nugget of real talk because i and you might you guys in the schoolyard did you hear the rumors growing up that erica was moses's daughter i i did i've never heard that till you mention it so that couple days ago. Ed tells me that that was a common,
Starting point is 01:06:47 you know, schoolyard legend and that stems from the fact that young Eric, yeah, Erica, the Richard Gere thing and Wendell Clark.
Starting point is 01:06:55 What school did you go to? Do you remember the Wendell Clark? Wendell Clark, sure. So this comes from, Erica would spend a lot of time at Moses's house because Erica's mom
Starting point is 01:07:03 was best friends with Marilyn. Right. And so all I'm saying is, all I'm saying is FOTM Eric M, who's done great work and deserves a lot of credit. The story does get modified somewhat when you learn about this relationship between Erica's mom and Marilyn. And you'll just leave it at that. I'm going to leave it at that. You're on this episode of Toast. Connect the dots yourself.
Starting point is 01:07:23 Okay. Let's get back Stu's videotape. Didn't you have, first of all, if I got back that tape, it's like the holy grail for me. I'm going to work on it. White whale, so to speak.
Starting point is 01:07:32 I'm going to phone Ed tomorrow. But there's no way she even knows who I am or remembers. It'd be fun to try. But what if she has like a box of tapes and it just happens to be there?
Starting point is 01:07:41 It would be like a miracle. It would be a miracle. So, we're going to kick out cam's jam you can say words before this is just one more question for stew stew eisenstein go ahead um has there ever been a charles cameron gordon yes go ahead has there ever been a digital version of overtime sports talk no because i i was looking for some it No. Because I was looking for some, it's tax season, I was looking for some tax documents that was in a box that has a VHS cassette
Starting point is 01:08:09 of whatever's like on Overtime Sports Talk. I'm curious if the Great Rybowski or the Canadian Bulldog, any of these people have ever digitized. Since my last episode of Toast with you guys, I guessed it on Mike Wilner's Toronto Star podcast,
Starting point is 01:08:26 which is called Deep Left Field. And we talked about Let's Talk Sports. Oh, yeah. Which did end up on Newton Cable. Newton Cable. And that's where you guys were. He was our leading show. That's a fucking mind blow too.
Starting point is 01:08:38 I don't want to like, you know. And it's also a mind blow to Ed Conroy's wife was in the car driving when she heard me on Here and Now with Jill Deacon. And she heard me drop the name Jay Gold. Because I talked about Dwight Drummond being in the Maestro Fresh West video. And Ed and his wife are very close with Jay Gold.
Starting point is 01:08:56 And this was a big fucking deal that she's in the car and I'm talking about Jay Gold on CBC Radio. Like, this is the small fucking village we have here, man. Do you ever step back, Stu, and say, what the fuck? Like Stu was hanging out in Moses' house and there's a video with me on it. Marilyn, you're talking to Jeannie Becker
Starting point is 01:09:14 at Conroy's in the fucking car. Can you imagine if that tape is not thrown in the garbage somehow by some miracle? It's in the junk drawer. It's like, I'm telling you. She's like, oh, I've been in my drunk drawer for 30 years. If this tape was to resurface somehow, Mike,
Starting point is 01:09:29 I don't even know what I would do. Do you want me to phone in right now on this program? No, because it's too awkward. It might be like backyard wrestling. I like awkward. Like a little backyard wrestling. For sure. Okay. I love all of this, but we're going to, again, so after we do the Cam Jam, then I got another jam, then we're going to hear about Stewstone and Canna Cabana, then Stew's jam, then i want to tell you guys about ryobi the newest sponsor
Starting point is 01:09:48 cam what do you want to say about your second jam sorry final comment if we could get you a digital version of overtime sports talk would that be a toronto mic exclusive i would drop it in the feed i would do it in a heartbeat i'm actually working on a mark daily thing i might have some mark daily content that's going to magically appear in the feed. I would do it in a heartbeat. I'm actually working on a Mark Daly thing. I might have some Mark Daly content that's going to magically appear in the feed one day. Oh, wow. That Mark Daly's widow found in his garage, like his tapes.
Starting point is 01:10:14 Wow. And of course, before she threw it out. My tape may have been in that box. Oh my God. Did you ever go to Mark Daly's house? No. The voice. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:10:23 Okay. So anyway, Ed Conroy got his hands on these, and he doesn't know what to do with them, and he thought of me, and he said, can we just drop this in the feed? I'm like, that's what the fucking feed is for. There you go. What the hell have I been doing for 10 years?
Starting point is 01:10:36 Good question. That's not the answer. Okay. Got on the Toronto Star. I'm on the fucking cover of the Toronto Star, Stu. Have you been on the cover of the Toronto Star? It was on our Wilner's podcast. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:10:46 Actually, twice. But I'd like you to plaque that. You can go. Trudy, if she's listening. I'm working on it. I got the PDF. There's a Costco kind of thing. They plaque it for you.
Starting point is 01:10:54 But I got the PDF. I'm doing this. Thank you. Shout out to FOTM Jill LeBlanc. I'm really proud of you for that, Mike. Thanks, buddy. It's a big fucking deal. No, for real.
Starting point is 01:11:02 You can brush off and be like, thanks, buddy, all you want. But honestly, that's a big achievement, buddy. It's a big fucking deal. No, for real. Like, you can, like, brush off and be like, thanks, buddy, all you want. But honestly, that's a big achievement, man. How many podcasters are on the cover of the newspaper? Just me and Joe Rogan. I don't know. Two different reasons, though. He's not on the cover of the Toronto Star. But I do want to thank Moose Grumpy again
Starting point is 01:11:17 for the official toast mask on. So cute. Lovely woman. Yeah. Have your kids seen that? Oh, an update, yes. So Morgan wanted it. And I said no as daddies.
Starting point is 01:11:27 You want to know what fucking Moose Grumpy did? I'm almost going to cry talking about this. Moose Grumpy bought her not a toast, but a different stuffy from the same company. It's called Jelly Cat. And Morgan fucking loves this new stuffy she has that Moose
Starting point is 01:11:43 Grumpy bought her so she wouldn't be upset that we have the toast.ie she has that Moose Grumpy bought her. So she wouldn't be upset that we have the toast. So she has a toast too? It's not toast. I'll tell you what. It's a cat or something. Moose Grumpy is an example of don't judge a book by its handle. Because, you know, Moose Grumpy is not a grumpy person.
Starting point is 01:12:01 Nor is she Moose. She's a sweetheart. She's generous. Honestly. She's empathetic. What will lovely people... By the way, before I forget,
Starting point is 01:12:07 and we're going to get back to Cam's second jam, TMLX9 is May 13th. That's Friday the 13th at 6 p.m. You love these fucking 6 p.m. starts. What's the matter with you?
Starting point is 01:12:18 Just bike like Cam, okay, buddy? Come on, bike. 6 p.m. on a Friday. That's going to be easy to get somewhere. 6 to 8 on Friday the 13th of May. Yes. I'm just letting you know. 6 p.m. on a Friday. That's going to be easy to get somewhere. 6 to 8 on Friday the 13th of May.
Starting point is 01:12:27 Yes. I'm just letting you know. Why can't you make it like 7 to 9? Because it's 6 to 8. If you came at 7, it would still be awesome to see you for the last. And then eventually before we wrap up tonight. So that's going to be in Marie Curtis Park? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:40 By the benches? Right, exactly. Yes, exactly. On the Toronto side of Marie Curtis Park. Is that where we were when we went to the... No. I've never been there? It's where Helix played. We had two TMLXs there and you were not at them.
Starting point is 01:12:53 It's not where Helix played. Helix played at Sam Smith Park. This is Marie Curtis. Is this the park where the guy came out and said, Stu's a piece of shit? Johnny O. Yeah. And I think he's on the live stream right now. And by the way, Moose Grumpy, I made her cry. Mission accomplished. Cam, any words before your second jam?
Starting point is 01:13:11 Not at this time. Love you, Moose. I was wondering if this was going to be first. Love it. That's interesting. Could have been. And the kids love this song now, too. We'll get to that.
Starting point is 01:13:21 We'll get to that. Some good science in this song, too. Like in the lyrics. Reminds me of John Gallagher's Stevie Nicks story. She's so cool. This is almost borderline dark rock. It wasn't Johnny O, by the way. Can we clear his name before I go too far on this?
Starting point is 01:13:52 It wasn't Johnny O. Johnny O's a good man. Why would you say that about him? Stu's a piece of shit. It was somebody else, and I'll tell you who in a minute. Not Liz. Johnny O never said that. That Kirby Road was ruining his life. What's his name?
Starting point is 01:14:06 Here's some Magic School Bus science coming up for you. In the lyrics of the song. Okay, yeah, yeah. We did an episode that actually referenced these lyrics that are coming. Sorry, but we didn't start the fire. We didn't start the fire. Just true. Science.
Starting point is 01:14:29 Joe Louis. Joe Louis. It was not Johnny O. It was Joe Louis. Johnny O's a good guy. Delicious pastry, though. Joe Louis. Johnny O's got a sweet swing.
Starting point is 01:14:42 Shout out to Domingo Martinez. I was going to say I loved your little Domingo Martinez. I'm so excited about the Jays. So because Steve and I, my brother, my youngest brother, Steve, we went to that game and Domingo Martinez hit his first career Major League home run and Rance Mullenix hit his last career Major League home run. And Garth Orchard was on the show. I went to my brother, I have four years on him, and I said,
Starting point is 01:15:03 Steve, that man might hit 50. I think I said will. That man's going to hit 50 homers in a season. Do you want to know how many career homers Domingo Martinez has ever hit? One, two. I would say if that guy ever got at bats, like I feel like a lot of baseball players or a lot of athletes in general,
Starting point is 01:15:19 if you give them the time, they're going to put up stats, you know, counting stats. Anyway, this isn't Hebsian Sports. Go ahead. Fluid Mac, Dreams, number one hit. In 1977 year, I was born in the year, not according to Stu's IMDB, but Stu Stone was also born that year.
Starting point is 01:15:39 What year? Because I saw him on the 1981 was his birth year. Anyway, 1987. That is Monica's birth year. She's in 81? Yeah. Nice. I don't think we need to go too deep on this.
Starting point is 01:15:52 I think everyone knows a lot about Fleetwood Mac. Is she listening to the show? She's still green. So yeah, I think so. Babe, happy 40th birthday. Oh, thank you. You know, we've talked about Fleetwood Mac before, but you know the part that's so great about it is it's like,
Starting point is 01:16:08 it's a recipe for disaster from Jump Street because it's like two couples and couples and it's like, what a mess. And like cocaine and it's like just opulence. Do you guys remember the 90s band that covered this song? Oh, give me a second. Because Landslide was by this 90s band called the Smashing Pumpkins. Slow Jam Cam cam what's up listening to the show making me laugh slow jam so so many cams different cams yeah uh the band was the cores i know the irish band for st patrick's day so i thought that was fun
Starting point is 01:16:37 um rolling stone magazine in 2021 ranked this as the number nine best song of all time. Wow. Are you guys good with that? It's a great song. I'm not sure it's the ninth best song of all time. Well, that's so subjective, but it is a wonderful song. Yeah. And Mike, you can't touch on this dog face.
Starting point is 01:16:57 It's the TikTok, the big TikTok sensation. Right. That guy wanted to make an NFT of of his video that stevie nicks block said you can have it in your video but you're not gonna make uh money off this nft here's a question for you guys do you guys have uh oh my god i'm blanking bitcoin no are you in the crypto game i don't know any bitcoin do you have any nfts i don't buy things I don't understand. That's smart, by the way. But that's why I'm not rich. Well, I don't know, man.
Starting point is 01:17:29 I think we should do a whole different episode on that. Do you have some Bitcoin? I mean, I definitely know all about it. I love that. But do you have any money invested in cryptocurrency? A slight amount, but nothing to write to Jeannie Becker about. Okay, I like asking Stu direct questions. A slight amount, but nothing to write to Jeannie Becker about. Okay, I like asking Stu direct questions.
Starting point is 01:17:50 Stu, what's your opinion about Dapper Labs, NFTs, specifically about sports memorabilia? Are you bearish or bullish on this? I'm a purist, so I don't love... I like tangible things. Like a jersey. But here I am saying that, but then music, we always loved albums I like tangible things. Yeah. You know? Like a jersey. But here I am saying that. A bat.
Starting point is 01:18:06 But then, you know, music, we always loved albums and holding them and that whole going to the record store and finding and having much more of an attachment to an artist because of how you had to seek out the music. And now it's all just files. And it worked. So who am I to say that? Bits and bytes.
Starting point is 01:18:22 Bits and bytes. Who bought Tops? The guy who owns the 76ers. Tops is owned by Fanatics. Fanatics, right. By the way, Steve Leggett makes an interesting point. You said that Dreams was ranked by somebody as the ninth best song of all time.
Starting point is 01:18:34 By Rolling Stone magazine. Steve Leggett's wondering if it's even the ninth best Fleetwood Mac song. Just throwing that out there. He's not convinced. It's a deep catalog. It's definitely a top ten. It's a great jam. Dreams. Dreams was a great jam. Dreams's not convinced. It's a deep catalog. It's definitely a top ten. It's a great jam. Dreams. Dreams was a great jam.
Starting point is 01:18:49 I'm going to kick out my jam. By the way, for those that are watching live in the chat, I agree with what Cambrio just said. That's all I'm going to say. I'm not going to say it out loud. I just agree with what he said. I know, but people are going to be listening to podcasts.
Starting point is 01:19:05 It's okay. That's why they should have to come and watch it live. That's it. They'll be frustrated. Can I just also point out... What about Tyler Campbell? He couldn't make the live stream. Tyler will have to ask Cambria what he said.
Starting point is 01:19:16 We played Weird Van Halen off the top. They also had a single called Dreams. That was during the Sammy Hagar era. Do you remember that? Right now, my dreams are coming true. I think it might have been off that. It was like the third single off that album. All I think about now, by the way,
Starting point is 01:19:29 when I hear right now is Crystal Pepsi. Totally. How about only in my dreams? Yeah. Oh, Debbie Gibson. Right. That was a big hit. That's a good jam.
Starting point is 01:19:39 That was a good thing. Do you know Debbie Gibson? Deborah. No, I don't. Deborah Gibson. Deborah. Right. She's matured.
Starting point is 01:19:44 Okay. She was battling Tiffany for like a mall. Tiffany's my friend. Tiffany dated a member of New Kids on the Block. She did. Jonathan Knight. How'd that work out? Well, Jonathan is homosexual.
Starting point is 01:19:55 Is he? Yes. But at the time, he wasn't public. Did he tell you that? He said the world. He said it to the world. He did? He's out.
Starting point is 01:20:01 Is he really? Yeah. Holy shit. I can't tell if it's a work or a shoot. It's a work shoot. Okay it's a work it's a work shoot okay he worked himself into a shoot with tiffany who's the guy who taught so uh van halen better than van hagar according that's true yeah i agree with what cambrio and steve like that's just like obvious ready for my second jam uh yeah press one if you are watching us live I just want to
Starting point is 01:20:26 get see who's still with us there's a little delay I like the reactions in the chat room you know Ian
Starting point is 01:20:31 Service a moment thank you Ian Service for the development on the live.torontomic.com experiment experience Ian Service
Starting point is 01:20:39 worked really hard on that my YC board is paying attention Johnny O Johnny O's not mad at me for thinking he said
Starting point is 01:20:45 those words. Greg is here. The Sha. Joe Louis said. Of course. No, it's Lady Sha. Lady Sha. It's like the Sha. Okay, you know what, Beck? You'd be happy to know what Becky is visiting me tomorrow morning. Beck is a great person. Two Becks.
Starting point is 01:21:01 Hanson? He's a loser, baby. Why don't you kill me okay is that his last name? Hanson is his name Beck Hanson? yeah
Starting point is 01:21:10 I did not I'm today years old yeah it's Madonna Ciccone it's Madonna Ciccone I knew that swear on something that that's his name
Starting point is 01:21:17 okay Beck Hanson any relation to the Hanson brothers? none I don't Stan Hanson I don't think there's
Starting point is 01:21:24 relation there okay you ready for my second jam? Andy, what's up? Oh yeah. Andy says Beck is awesome. Andy. Oh, by the way, Andy.
Starting point is 01:21:31 Beck's cool. You're the best, Andy. And you're all the best. Greg. Do you have the heat on? The grumpster. No, there's like an air purifier there
Starting point is 01:21:37 because I don't know. So we're going to get to that. But first, my second jam. All right. FOTM. Correctamundo. This sounds like Godfall Surfers. Pepper?
Starting point is 01:21:58 Yeah. He kind of looks like Gibby Haynes, too. He's a very handsome man. He's big, like strapping. He sits where Stu is, and he looks at me, and he's got the hair, although I found out he dyes it in the beard. And it's just kind of like you're with Cheezus or something. Yeah, or Rob Zombie.
Starting point is 01:22:17 Right, or same difference. Also, Ovechkin's Bodyguard. We're saying Lady Shad's name wrong. I just want to say it's Lottie Shad. Lottie Shad. Lottie Shad. Lottie Shad. Lottie Shad. I know that they'd get there If they could Shout out to the Hammer!
Starting point is 01:22:52 It's just a matter of time Before we get to shine Actually, we should talk about songs not on Spotify, too. Because I... Burned Out Car. Yeah, Burned Out Car. Which I thought was a Murray McLachlan song. Tree's Lounge. But they wrote songs not on Spotify, too. Burned Out Car. Yeah, Burned Out Car. Which I thought was a Murray McLachlan song. Tree's Lounge.
Starting point is 01:23:08 But they wrote it together. Yes. Yes. Hayden. Did you know it's Hayden Desser? No. And there's another song that wasn't. Oh, there's a Kim Mitchell song.
Starting point is 01:23:18 And Custom. Atlanta Loves Me. Atlanta Loves Me, which we've heard on Pandemic Brothers. Right. And the Custom stuff's not on. Because when he passed away, I went to Spotify and they had nothing. Okay. The Neil Young stuff.
Starting point is 01:23:29 Return of the Stone movement, my last album, not on Spotify anymore. What happened? How do you get control of that? How do you get control of that? I don't. You just, they just, I don't know. Can you buy it? We'll get the FOTM to chip in a few bucks and we'll buy your catalog.
Starting point is 01:23:43 Buy the rights. Buy your masters right you had to buy a masters I bet you that they would sell a master I bet you they would sell when I'm watching
Starting point is 01:23:49 the stew sessions there's footage from the bar mitzvah yeah yes and I'm looking like a fucking hawk for Brian he's not in there but I'm like
Starting point is 01:23:56 where the fuck's Brian like all too messing like knowing like I've got the laser pointer I'm like by the way people do watch sessions please you
Starting point is 01:24:04 know throw out a tweet so we can know, the world can know. Right. You know? So who's singing right now? Okay, so this is, I should pull this up. This is Tom Wilson's voice. Right.
Starting point is 01:24:16 This is Junk House. Oh, this is Junk House. This is fucking Junk House. Right. Underappreciated band, by the way. I feel like they played at one of those, like, festivals that we went to so CFNY played this jam
Starting point is 01:24:27 friendship festival probably so CFNY played this song but CFNY did not play the earlier album which had Out of My Head we were talking like we were just talking about this by DM bands in the 90s who were
Starting point is 01:24:44 rock bands but didn't get played on CFNY. It's a very short list. Pursuit of Happiness. Pursuit of Happiness didn't get CFNY love? I don't think so. Do you remember that? Oh, yeah. Yes, they did.
Starting point is 01:24:58 Hard to Laugh and She's So Young. That was all over CFNY. Q was big on it, like high rotation. Yeah, but they weren't CY too. I'll ask Scott Turner. Yes, yes. Okay, okay. Yes, yes, Mike.
Starting point is 01:25:09 This is the Hamilton's own Junkhouse. Junkhouse, great song. Tom Wilson. What's their biggest hit? Out of my, out of my, out of my head. I think this is their biggest. This was a crossover jam. This was a big hit,
Starting point is 01:25:21 but Out of My Head was a big first hit. And then the song you can't find on Spotify from the birthday party is called... Birthday cake? Birthday party? Birthday Boy. Birthday Boy
Starting point is 01:25:31 is called Burned Out Car, which Tom Wilson wrote with Denise Donlan's husband, Murray McLaughlin. That's a fucking... With Sarah McLaughlin and their backing vocals. And they were drunk one night
Starting point is 01:25:40 and Sarah McLaughlin's on that and it's fucking beautiful and you can't get it on the phone. That's an awesome haunting song. And I asked Tom why and he says it's the record company thing's on that and it's fucking beautiful and you can't get it that's an awesome haunting song and I asked Tom why and he says it's a record company thing they don't give a fuck about that album and he can't change anything about it actually Mike so Tom
Starting point is 01:25:52 Wilson from Junk House Tom Wilson the hockey player Tom Wilson the former Jays catcher and isn't Tom Wilson the name of the guy from Back to the Future what's the name of Biff can you google that Tom Wilson think about that a guy from Back to the Future. What's the name of Biff? Can you Google that?
Starting point is 01:26:06 Tom Wilson. Think about that. And then also the next door neighbor on Home Improvement, Tom Wilson. Tom Mookie Wilson. By Blaine, just fucking... Do you see Willie Wilson was trending today? There's another Willie Wilson? No, there's another Willie Wilson. I feel like Cam sneaks into the Twitter trending world.
Starting point is 01:26:26 I do not have access. Shout out to Ridley Funeral Home. I want to pay tribute. I do not have access. Those privileges. On March 15th, 2010. That's Willie Wilson. That's two days ago.
Starting point is 01:26:37 Pat Sheridan. Two days ago was the 12th anniversary of the very sudden passing of Don Aiken. Don Aiken. Wow. I know him very well. Was the guitarist from Junkhouse. Yeah, I know that. So Tom Wilson is the vocalist and guitarist, and Dan Aiken was the guitarist from Junkhouse.
Starting point is 01:26:54 He had a heart attack playing hockey. Oh, no. Bang, gone before he hits the ground. What a way to go. It was fucking terrible. And yeah, so I just wanted to pay tribute to Dan that he passed away 12 years ago. Do you remember my daughter's birthday?
Starting point is 01:27:06 Actually, Colin Cripps, of course, and we rodeo. Yeah, and he was also in a crash Vegas. Was he not? Yeah, with the Greg from Greg Brady. No, who's the who's the lead singer? Greg Keeler, right? And Michelle McAdory. Who's Bob McAdory's daughter? Right, and alleler, right. And Michelle McAdory.
Starting point is 01:27:26 Bob McAdory's daughter. Right. And all this is to tell you, guess who's my fucking guest Monday? Guess who my fucking guest is Monday? Dan Duran. Oh, my God. Dan Duran, I fucking said to Dan. Dan and I were on Humble and Fred, and he saw Ryobi's box of the drill here,
Starting point is 01:27:40 the great fucking drill. Hell, yes. Oh, he's like, oh, Ryobi's your sponsor? And I said, yeah, but it's pronounced Ryobi. the great fucking drill hell yeah oh he's like oh uh ryobi is your sponsor and i said yeah but it's pronounced ryobi and dan duran looks at me and says no it's not fucking i can't even talk about it anyway this is this is like your dan gallagher story dan gallagher snorted cocaine off the ass of stevie nicks according to dan gallagher john gallagher okay john gallagher snorted the coke off the ass of Stevie Nicks. It's in his book.
Starting point is 01:28:07 Why did she allow him to do that? It's in his book. When? Is she aware of it? Was she like passed out? It's in his book. So. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:13 Do you remember some Room on Fire? By Stevie Nicks. Not the Strokes album. No. It was like a late 80s Stevie Nicks single. Sort of. Yes. Good track.
Starting point is 01:28:24 Yes. Okay. Right. Right. Okay. Anyway. Okay. So do you have any idea where Stevie Nicks single. Sort of, yes. Good track. Yes, okay, right, right. Anyway. Okay, so do you have any idea where I was going? Because I'm completely gone. And Tom Wilson's the man who diagnosed me with ADHD. Yeah, your stream is down.
Starting point is 01:28:34 Is that right? Did you read his book? Tom Wilson? We have a code blue here. It shouldn't be down. It is. But I'm looking at it. I know, but go to refresh it and see what happens.
Starting point is 01:28:46 I'll tap my head. Are you offline? I'm going to tap my head like this. And Trudy just sent me a text here saying it's not working. If I tap my head here, it's not down because it's a live stream. Yeah. Yeah, it's fine. Are you hardwired?
Starting point is 01:28:57 Hit refresh. But it doesn't, that's not how live streaming works. Okay, but it says you haven't joined any networks. It's like when I try to go on and my mom just texted me the same thing. Okay, well, I've got to record this show. I'm going to see if I can see it on my phone. You can't. It's down.
Starting point is 01:29:11 Now that I refreshed it, it says you haven't joined any networks. So what I'll do is I'll start. Oh, yeah, that was my jam. So we'll get Stu's jam going, and I will text Ian Service and see if he can fix it on the fly because I don't know what happened there. That's a technical issue there. Okay. So maybe Monica, if you're listening.
Starting point is 01:29:31 Maybe you got booted because we're playing the Junkhouse song. But there's no, that's the whole point of the pirate stream. We can do that. Okay. No one's policing the pirate stream there. Okay. So Stu Stone, that's too bad. We'll get that figured out.
Starting point is 01:29:43 But I want to capture the good audio anyways because most people listen to the podcast. What say you about your second jam? I say that it's a song called Creep. All right, here we go. Spoiler. I'll reach out to Ian Service. Yeah. Yeah. The word yesterday Makes me want to stay
Starting point is 01:30:32 What they said was real Makes me want to steal Living under house Guess I'm living high and miles All's I got this time Got no meaning just to rhyme
Starting point is 01:31:00 Take time with a wounded hand Cause it likes to heal Take time with a wounded hand Cause it likes to steal Take time with a wounded hand Cause it likes to heal I like to steal I'm half the man I used to be
Starting point is 01:31:38 Half the man I used to be Well, I'm half the man I used to be Well, I'm half the man I used to be Well, I'm half the man I used to be So you're listening to a song called Creepist by Stone Temple Pilots. Do you know them? Love this band.
Starting point is 01:32:15 Seen them live many times. We've had this song previously in various incarnations of this program. First time appearing on toast. Oh, Dysectomy Jams. Yes. That's half the name.ast. Oh, Dysectomy Jams. Yes. Because it's half the name. It's half the name.
Starting point is 01:32:26 Yeah. Okay, that's funny. Stone Temple Pilots, man. They really came onto the scene and had a bad reputation at first. People kind of wrote them off as this Kirkland Pearl Jam. But they really found their own sound
Starting point is 01:32:43 and their own path and their own success. And I think that this is a good song, man. It's aged really well, their music, too. Of course, there was two music videos for this song. One of them was by Gus Van Sant.
Starting point is 01:32:59 Do you know who that is? Yeah, of course. He directed Even Cowboys Get the Blues. He directed... My Own Private Idaho. Yes, but also bigger movies like... Didn't he do Be Good Will Hunting? Be Good Will Hunting. Right.
Starting point is 01:33:11 No, it's not working for me. It's only working for you. Weird. Oh, well. Well, why don't you ask them to push one if they're senior? Okay. Because they're not... So, again, this is...
Starting point is 01:33:22 If you can see us on the live stream, press 1 because we got booted and then it came back. And Ian, if you want to call me. So, I'm half the man I used to be. Song was released in 1993. So, now you have my first two songs are both creep. I see where this is going Both 1993 How about that
Starting point is 01:33:47 How about that Born in 1992 Released in 93 Wow There you go I like it too This is from Core Yes
Starting point is 01:33:55 Which is fucking heavy right Fucking heavy Totally Sex type thing is on there Wicked Garden And of course the the Pearl Jam. It's back. The Pearl Jam wannabe.
Starting point is 01:34:07 It's back. Which I like. Everybody missed my song. They'll have to listen to the re-record to find out what my second song was. Dead and bloated. Yeah, and Biff, it's been confirmed. Biff was a Tom Wilson.
Starting point is 01:34:20 Oh, really? Yeah, that got confirmed by Johnny O. Do you remember the catcher or are you just playing along? No, I didn't remember the Catcher, to be honest. What year? It was like 2005 or so. I know Charlie O'Brien.
Starting point is 01:34:31 Yeah, post O'Brien. Like right after Darren Fletcher, maybe. Yeah, former Expo. He was a good hitter. Good Expo, okay. All right, I remember we used to keep track of the players who had played for both Expos and Blue Jays and there was this list.
Starting point is 01:34:43 That's right. Denny Boucher was on that list. Denny Boucher, Rob Doocy. Right. There was a small list though. Anyways, he was on that. Casey Candell? No. Yeah, what about him? Casey Stengel? No, come on. Stu, I love, can I just
Starting point is 01:34:57 declare my love for this band? I would go and see them. I thought they were fucking awesome. It would be tough now. They did have... Shout out to... Yeah, they still tour. They're in the funeral home. But Chester... Chester Bennington.
Starting point is 01:35:11 Yeah, that's not going to work either. That's not going to work either, but he did come and fill in for Scott after Scott. There is a Canadian guy who is a very good singer who I feel like could be a guy who could come and sing for this band or any other band that's looking for a singer. And his name is Lucas Rossi.
Starting point is 01:35:29 Do you know Lucas? He won the NXS contest. Yeah, he's a good singer. And he's a Canadian guy. Karaoke guy. Is he a karaoke guy? Wasn't he with like NXS or something? Yeah, he won the reality show. Rockstar Supernova. Yeah, Rockstar Supernova.
Starting point is 01:35:44 Tommy Lee. Did you know that just Yeah. Rockstar Supernova. That was the one with Tommy Lee. Did you know that just before he passed away, Michael Hutchins was in a movie called Limp that was directed by the late great custom, Dwayne LaVold. Limp. Shout out to Limp Bizkit, by the way. Right.
Starting point is 01:35:59 They're going on tour. DJ Lethal is an FOSS. He is. And Limp Bizkit's playing Madison Square Garden for the very first time. Imagine that. Think of the height of Limp Bizkit.
Starting point is 01:36:10 That's amazing. Now in 2022, they're finally playing Madison Square Garden. That's amazing. I might go to that. I should. La-di-da.
Starting point is 01:36:19 La-di-cha. La-di-cha. Everybody's back now. For five minutes, the live stream was down. And according to the chatters, it was the worst five minutes of their lives. So we're back now, though. Thank you for kicking out some STP.
Starting point is 01:36:31 Can you please share with us, Stu Stone, what did you, did you use the Canna Cabana swag you brought home? The Canna Cabana swag was incredible. I mean, you talk about generosity. These guys, you know, or gals, there was a cap, there was a beer koozie. Right, that's right. Did you get a toque?
Starting point is 01:36:53 There was a toque. Cam, did you get a toque? I know. I have a toque for you from Canada Cabana, Cam Gordon. Thank you. Unbeatable. That is yours. Unbeatable prices on cannabis and smoking accessories. I might wear that home. There were some accessories that were also provided. Did you get a dab rig?
Starting point is 01:37:09 I did not get a dab rig, no. I know what a bong is, I know what a pipe is, I know a vape, but what is a dab rig? A dab rig is a much more intense rig. Dabbing is not just like, eh. Dabbing is concentrates. And what's a grinder? A grinder is a website that you meet
Starting point is 01:37:26 grounding the flour for rolling yes grinder is a grinder what the fuck do you think a grinder is? I get what you're doing here he's working right now he's doing a bed a dab is
Starting point is 01:37:42 concentrates I'm not a guy I'm not a dab is concentrated. I don't I'm not a guy. I'm not a dab guy. Okay. I understood. I wonder if Kareem is a dab guy. You know what?
Starting point is 01:37:51 I told him about the Canna Cabana partnership and he's hoping there will be an opportunity when we move to the backyard because Monica doesn't want
Starting point is 01:37:58 any smoking in the basement which makes sense actually. I'm not sure I wanted either. But when we move to the backyard there might be an episode
Starting point is 01:38:05 where sparks are flying. An episode of toast. Like weed jams? Weed something. Maybe April 20th. We'll see. Mike, I was going to ask. It's almost the first day of spring.
Starting point is 01:38:18 Oh, Gendarme. Well, there's that too. But what are your plans for backyard eps? As soon as the weather turns. We're by the weather turns. We're by the lake here. Today's a good example, okay?
Starting point is 01:38:30 I go on my bike ride to the Zanzibar. Sure. It's fucking cold. Grab that drop. I actually got gloves on because it was cold. It was chilly. I take the waterfront to Yonge. It's still cold on the lake, but then I head north on Yonge. By the time I got to Front Street, forget King.
Starting point is 01:38:42 By the time between Front and King, it went up 10 degrees. It was fucking unbelievable. I was spitzing. On Purim? You know, Jeannie Becker kept dropping Yiddish words, and then she was explaining to me what they meant, and I almost broke in and said, Jeannie, I co-host a show with Mark fucking Hebbshire.
Starting point is 01:39:01 I know what these Yiddish words mean. And then she's like, Mark Hebbshire. Maybe they went on a date too. Shout out to Peter Gross. And Hebbsie. I spoke to Hebbsie this week, by the way. What did you guys talk about? We were on FaceTime.
Starting point is 01:39:16 He was telling me a story about one of the greatest athletes ever. Okay, was it the Jewish woman? Yes. Yeah, he wrote a whole piece about it for the Canadian Jewish News. I inspired him to write that piece. Wendy Richter. Wise Blot was like an editor of that,
Starting point is 01:39:29 so it all comes full circle. Should I get Ian's call here? Hold on here. Let's get it here. Live on the air here. Tim, it's been a while since... Ian, I only called you because the live stream
Starting point is 01:39:38 went down for five whole minutes and it just booted everybody out. Are you talking to Wendy Richter? Yeah, but it's back now. So for five minutes, we all got booted out of the live stream and it was the worst five minutes of some people's lives. Andy's specifically.
Starting point is 01:39:53 So I called you during that, but now it's back. So it's okay. I don't know what happened. Has he watched the stew sessions? Have you seen the stew sessions? I have not yet. I'm very excited to watch them. Yeah, I think you'll like it. Clearly. Okay, we're looking forward to your review here. Okay. So, brother, that's it.
Starting point is 01:40:08 It went down, it came back, and the world is good again. Amazing. Okay, and we love you, and you're doing a great job. We love the experience at live.torontomic.com. Amazing. And you. And get back in there. We miss you.
Starting point is 01:40:19 Don't put those kids to bed. Just get back in the mission. No, I was busy. We're doing F1 picks for tomorrow. We're doing a fantasy pool. F1's so popular now. I know so many people. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:40:31 What about March Madness? You got a bracket? No, we're all about the F1. Yeah. Okay. Go ahead, Ken. I'll let him go, but I have a question
Starting point is 01:40:41 for the FOTM. We can chat later, Ken. Okay. Yeah, okay. Peace and love to you, Ian Service. Trudy's watching, by the way. Tell Trudy, but I have a question for the FOTM. Peace and love to you Ian Service. Trudy's watching by the way. Tell Trudy I'm hanging up on you
Starting point is 01:40:50 I'm going to tell Trudy something and then I'm going to play a jam. You can tell her you liked her on the show. Trudy if you can hear my voice right now. I thought you were the and it was excellent
Starting point is 01:40:59 I enjoyed all six episodes of the stew sessions but your episode was the best one. The best of the bunch. Yeah. I think you're a genuine talent. Like you,
Starting point is 01:41:07 you're just delight on the screen. Like the camera loves you. She eats up the scenery. And honestly, you were the highlight and stew did a great job too. You should be very proud of your boy, but you were the highlight of the night.
Starting point is 01:41:20 She's great. And you're great. And we're glad to have you as an FOTM. Okay. Now I'm going to kick out the third jam selected by Cam Gordon. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Before we do, this is 100% shoot to any of the FOTMs listening. If anyone, or Stu Stone or Mike Boone,
Starting point is 01:41:39 if anyone wants to be in a Major League Baseball pool, a head-to-head league, with other members of the Twitter Canada family, send me a DM, reach out to me. This 100% shoot, I'm putting it together. I bet you Canada Kev would. He was babysitting Dave Steeb. Totally.
Starting point is 01:41:55 If anyone wants to be part of it, send me a DM. Looking to pull together... Should I just send you a DM? You don't have to, because you're right here. I'm in. You're in? Okay. And my mom says thank you, Mike. Yeah, Trudy, none of that was bullshit, because I don't do to because you're right here. I'm in. You're in? Okay. And my mom says thank you, Mike. Yeah, Trudy, none of that was bullshit
Starting point is 01:42:06 because I don't do the shtick. This is real talk here. I thought you were fantastic. Okay. Two quick intros. One, I think this of the three songs with this name, I think this is my favorite. Good to close with your favorite.
Starting point is 01:42:21 Yeah. Second, happy St. Patrick's Day. I thought we'd end with an Irish band. Oh, this song is called Dreams also? Yeah. Huh. I wouldn't have known that.
Starting point is 01:42:36 I didn't know that that was the name of this song. This is also a really uplifting song. It belongs in a movie trailer. We'll get to that. We'll get to that. When I hear it, I can see the... Inspired. I love this band.
Starting point is 01:42:53 Good job. R.E.P. Dolores. Shout out to Ridley Funeral Horror. R.E.P. to Mulva. I get that reference. Seinfeld reference yes and she has a Toronto
Starting point is 01:43:08 she has a GTA connection but we'll get to that yeah I didn't know this song was called Dreams. I wonder if there's other songs called Dreams that you left out. Do you do that at the end? Tons. Yeah, there's a ton of Dreams.
Starting point is 01:43:34 Is there a list that you have for us? This is his favorite tweet. I could search. I think it'd be interesting to know. Well, we could do a sequel. After we do the Yacht Rock sequel, we could do it. Well, we can do a sequel. After we do the Yacht Rock sequel, we can do it.
Starting point is 01:43:51 I like this song because it's really uplifting and rollicking, but it's also a bit melancholy, you know? Right. There's infinite sadness there. Lindsay, who's watching the show, says she also liked Trudy's episode of Sessions. I think most FOTMs would agree that the scenes without Stu were the best scenes. Jokes, jokes. Widener's a good actor, too.
Starting point is 01:44:15 I was impressed. Although that was kind of just him. That's the owner? Yeah. Yeah, I thought he did a good job, too. He's so funny. Like, just naturally funny. Cranberries.
Starting point is 01:44:24 Yeah. Cranberries out of Ireland. Happy St. Patrick's Day. Their single Dreams. I didn't realize this was their debut single. Yes. Happy Fitzpatrick's Day. I would have. I see what you did there.
Starting point is 01:44:34 I see what you did there. I thought it would have been that song Linger. But that's the first song that I, for some reason, the first time I heard this song, because I want you guys to remember, it was on the Woodstock 94 soundtrack where the cranberries played. I just remember it from trailers
Starting point is 01:44:50 like it was just on every trailer I saw in a while. Perfect segue. Here's some of the 90s movies. This was either in the trailer. Yes, You've Got Mail. Yes. That was a lucky guess. Mission Impossible. Really? This is the one I remember.
Starting point is 01:45:06 Boys on the Side. Is that Drew Barrymore? Yeah, Drew Barrymore and Friends. The Next Karate Kid. Oh, who was the next Karate Kid? It wasn't Ralph. Yeah, it was Hilary Swank. It wasn't Ralph.
Starting point is 01:45:16 Milk Money. Hold on. Let me think about Milk Money. It's a comedy, right? John Lovitz or something? It was Ed Harris and Melanie Griffith. Oh, yes. I do remember that. Yes.
Starting point is 01:45:23 And something called shot through the heart and you're to blame that's uh john bon jovi yeah i fucking hate them yeah um i don't like them at all that's interesting but i liked them in 87 like slippery when wet was a big big thing for me and i fucking turned i didn't speak in my language when slippery when wet i kind of agree with you on i was a big fan wherein I had the cassette and I loved it and the big hits on Slippery When Wet and then shortly there, I think after...
Starting point is 01:45:49 Blaze of Glory? No, it was... Give me a second. What was the big hit? Bad Medicine. So Bad Medicine was all over Q107. It was everywhere.
Starting point is 01:45:57 And at some point, I'm like, wait a minute. These guys suck. It was like I had this epiphany. Like Stu had the epiphany. I had the epiphany. Bon Jovi wasn't a good band. They're terrible.
Starting point is 01:46:07 And I mean, Always and all that shit that came after, just fucking get rid of it. Something for the pain. Do you remember this song? Shit. For the really... When they put the fucking... It's my life.
Starting point is 01:46:17 Whoa, whoa. Right. And then I learned he treats the band like it's a business, so he hires Richie Sane. He's just the owner of the business and he hires these parts. I'm like, that's not a fucking band. Pearl Jam doesn't work that way. Tragically Hip doesn't work that way.
Starting point is 01:46:31 Other bands do. I was going to say Mike. But not the bands I love. Do you like Kiss? No. Mike. Fuck Gene Simmons. Go.
Starting point is 01:46:38 Really? Do you remember Bon Jovi came up on the last PPMM? And do you remember why? Because he sucks? No, because there's been a Canadian in Bon Jovi for up on the last PPMM. And do you remember why? Because he sucks? No, because there's been a Canadian in Bon Jovi for about 15 years. Oh, because I only... Phil X, the replacement for Richie Zambaro.
Starting point is 01:46:53 He's been out of the band for that long? Yeah. Yeah, I know. I know. And they put the banner at the Air Canada Center. Do you remember? They put the banner in the Air Canada Center for Bon Jovi. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:47:04 I think Ivor Hamilton has something to do with it. I think I gave him a hard time for it, but that's bullshit too. Okay. You know what's not? This all ties together. Okay. Do you know what the basis of the Cranberries is? Give me a second.
Starting point is 01:47:18 I'll give you a clue. Buckethead. I think this name is an FOTM, but not this person. It's somebody with the same name. Chris Brown. No, I don't know. I don't know. No, Mike Hogan. That is an FOTM, but not this person. It's somebody with the same name. Chris Brown. No, I don't know. I don't know. No, Mike Hogan.
Starting point is 01:47:27 That is an FOTM. There you go. Mike Hogan. Argo's play-by-play guy. He went to high school of the Tragically Hit. Yeah, also the bassist for the Cranberries. And that's where Stu was going to work in the radio for Bob Willett. And that would have helped Bob get the ratings up in Kingston,
Starting point is 01:47:42 which would allow him to go over to CFNY and work at... I would have been able to do that had he allowed cameras. Why don't you get Carly's job? There's an opening 10 to 3. Carly Myers. 10 to 3, it's a long shift. I know, that's the shift.
Starting point is 01:47:54 Carly Myers was 10 to 3 and her last shift was yesterday. Can I play like old stuff? You can play a bit of old stuff. You can play some cranberries, some zombie. They only let you play zombie though. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:03 Zombie is a big karaoke song. Oh, to my family. Oh, to my family. I think I'd be better in like a talk format, maybe. Oh, today radio. Mark Weisblatt will hook you up with the people at Today. He loves that show. More for us to talk about over a club sandwich.
Starting point is 01:48:18 Can I come out to the pickle barrel? I'm saying that there can be a summit that can be publicly said when that's going to be. And it's almost like a TMLX event. But it's like a summit that can be publicly like said when that's going to be. And it's like almost like a TMLX event, but it's like a summit between myself and 1236. We're going to break unleavened bread. I think Mike and I should be at the bar with like a Whisper 2000.
Starting point is 01:48:35 Like in each year so we could just take eavesdrops. Yeah. I like him. He's so handsome. Yeah, absolutely. Okay. What more do you have to say
Starting point is 01:48:43 about the wonderful cranberries? Nothing. She had children with an Ontarian. Yeah, absolutely. Okay. What more do you have to say about the wonderful cranberries? Nothing. I love that song. She had children with an Ontarian. That's right. Yeah. And it caused her
Starting point is 01:48:50 to live here for a while and her children went to school here and it is, I don't want to make light of this. This is actually, like, I mean, if anyone out there
Starting point is 01:48:58 is listening to us right now, any FOTM is having mental health struggles or needs to talk. My DMs are open but I'm just, the fact that Dolores O'Riordan took her own life,
Starting point is 01:49:08 it's just tragic to me. Was that confirmed because she was like, she had pills and alcohol in the bathtub, like in the hotel room, like just brutal. Okay, regardless,
Starting point is 01:49:20 that activity suggests that Dolores O'Riordan Yeah, it was certainly self-destructive behavior, like no doubt. And we don't have her anymore. Men's talent. Yeah, what a certainly self-destructive behavior. Like, no doubt. And we don't have her anymore. Men's talent. Yeah, what a band.
Starting point is 01:49:28 What a band. Great band. Just say that Cam's songs, Dreams, the three of them that he played. They're all good.
Starting point is 01:49:35 Dreams, Dreams, and Dreams. I would have ranked them in the opposite order that he just played after hearing them. Well, they weren't. It was like 3-2-1. It was 3-2-1.
Starting point is 01:49:42 It's not Desiree, it's Gabrielle. Sorry, Gabrielle's song is like, that's my favorite dream song. Is it? Really? I like Cam's Order.
Starting point is 01:49:50 I would put them in Cam's Order. Thank you. They're all great. So what dream songs did we miss? Oh, well, there's a Beck song. Brought to you by Ridley Funeral Home presents songs we missed. Oh, and I'm going to talk to you about RYOBI in a minute. Okay, here's a few other songs, singles.
Starting point is 01:50:08 So Beck had a song called Dreams. Yes. The Game. Oh, that's a good song. That's a good song. That's a big song. Produced by Kanye. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:50:17 Aliyah had a dream. Martin Luther had a dream. Aliyah had a dream. Yeah. That's actually a good fucking song. That was a big hit. Produced by Kanye. NF. What? Not MF. NF. uh alia had a dream yeah that's actually a good fucking song that was a big that was a big hit by kanye all right nf nf not nf nf oh nf was the guy who did the song with alicia carrie like what it was like a phone number it was sort of like a suicide oh right right right yes that guy the suicide number anyway he had a song called dreams um Road. Like not the drug website, but...
Starting point is 01:50:46 Silk Road. That's nothing to do with... No, I don't know. Bazzy? No, Baz Luhrmann? Joe Bell. Joey Bell. That's Albert Bell.
Starting point is 01:50:57 Savros, not Steve Savros. Steve Savros from Speaking of Nob Hill Farms. I think we got the big ones. Who's Speaking of Nob Hill Farms? Okay, I didn't know we had to do that part. I didn't do that part. A lot of dreams. So let me do this then, if you don't mind.
Starting point is 01:51:08 How's your camera looking there? Terrible. I had just this angle on me. So maybe, can you guys, I'm open. I'm not going to find a significant other if you're watching this live stream. I think we need it like here. I have three thoughts. I didn't know how to put it on the table and get both of you.
Starting point is 01:51:22 That's okay. It's not the problem. It's like this angle makes me just look very unattractive. So tell me where the camera should be. My mom is texting me. You look unattractive. Tell me where the camera should be. You look great.
Starting point is 01:51:29 My mom doesn't think so. Trudy, he looks great. I've never been more attracted to him in his life. I feel like it could be like right here. Like here, but then I don't think it gets the wide. Like between whatever that gimmick is here. Okay, this is the light. There we go.
Starting point is 01:51:42 That's slightly better. So we'll make an adjustment on the camera next time. But can we talk about next time? We've been starting at seven o'clock. That's no good. Stu doesn't like that start time because of traffic. Yeah. What time should this toast begin?
Starting point is 01:51:53 Seven thirty eight o'clock. Seven thirty is good. Like I'll probably do the bike thing. So I will edit the Google calendar and make it seven thirty. That's much better. It's just okay. Do the info teams need to hear this? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:52:04 They want to know how the sausage is made here. Okay. One last thing on the production note. I have to say this. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I find myself missing this because of the fact that there's sometimes four or five weeks between. You had us every week.
Starting point is 01:52:20 You owned us. Oh, I'm sick of this. I'm exhausted. I gotta go camping. Hold on. Hear me out. You had us. Every week is too much. You owned us. What a I'm sick of this. I'm exhausted. I gotta go camping. Hold on. Hear me out. Every week is too much. You owned us. What a swerve, bro. Every week is too much. Once a month, too little.
Starting point is 01:52:33 What about... I'm going to pitch something. You don't have to give me an answer now. I don't know, man. I'm going to pitch something and you're going to take it home and noodle it. Trudy, I'm pitching something to your boy. You're hard to get to. Hear me out. I know. I realize I'm in the southwest corner here. Hear me out. You guys should move
Starting point is 01:52:50 to fucking Mimico. Hear me out. What if just hear me out. You come to us. What if. Well, that's a possibility too. What if we did it every third Thursday except when that day aligns with Mark Weisblot's visit, in which
Starting point is 01:53:06 case it gets bumped a week. It'll often be every three but you'll have them a little clunky. Alright, I'm going to kick out a jam and then we're going to talk about reopening. Twice a month for fuck's sake. That's what my buddy is saying right on here.
Starting point is 01:53:21 Twice a month. That's a lot. I'm trying to make it like a Thursday and it's every X Thursday. I can't do twice a month. I need more Wiseplot. Do you?
Starting point is 01:53:32 Okay. I do bi-weekly Wiseplot. I love my once a month with Wiseplot. It's perfect. That's the first Thursday. Let those deaths pile up. I think we should consider
Starting point is 01:53:40 every third Thursday. Just think about it. Let's take this offline. Let's take this offline. We're not ready yet? No. Right now, we're the fourth Thursday of the month about it. Let's take this offline. Let's take this offline. Isn't it already that? No. Right now, we're the fourth Thursday of the month. Okay?
Starting point is 01:53:48 That's once a month. The fourth Thursday. Oh, sorry. Oh, my God. No. We're the third Thursday of the month. Get some help, would you? That's once every month, third Thursday.
Starting point is 01:53:57 If we were every three weeks, it would be far more often. Do some talk space. Just think about a calendar, right? How would it be more often? It's still a month apart. No, it's not. It's three weeks apart. So every third Thursday is three weeks apart. A month is 4.5 weeks.
Starting point is 01:54:12 So it'll be much more frequent. What are these mind games? I don't know. Is this like a riddle? That's John Lennon. So seriously, every third Thursday is far more frequent than the third Thursday of every month. Are you guys with me?
Starting point is 01:54:27 How about you just tell me when to be here and I'll be here. We'll discuss more later. We'll discuss more later. Does the audience even want more toast? Is this like a Ponzi scheme? You don't realize that every third Thursday is more frequent than the third Thursday of every month? I got like 91 in calculus. I was gifted.
Starting point is 01:54:47 I was in the gifted program. I don't give a fuck what you were. I think you should let the audience decide. You go to a real school like Thorne. Don't like be thrashing around over there. Tomorrow morning, I'm recording with Becky. Like a shark in a net. Becky Yan, who is director of marketing.
Starting point is 01:55:03 She's with RYOBI, okay? RYOBI 18-volt, one-plus high-capacity lithium-plus battery provides net becky yan who is director of marketing she's with ryobi okay ryobi 18 volt one plus high capacity lithium plus battery provides four times more runtime company no it's a it's power tools but they you all use the same fucking battery and it's amazing four times longer lasting battery charge 20 lighter weight than the nicad batteries. This is the fucking lithium ion batteries, okay? I feel like Boshanna uses a Ryobi. Boshanna? Monica uses Ryobi.
Starting point is 01:55:29 Well, don't. That's not nice to talk about what Monica does with that battery. Shout out to Ryobi. It works. You can get the battery works of all the tools and chargers that come from the Ryobi 18-volt OnePlus system. Get it at Home Depot and tune in to the next episode.
Starting point is 01:55:47 Oh, you want to know? You want to know how they found? You ready for this? You ready? Peter Gross. There's an FOTM who's been to every single TMLX event and will be at TMLX 9 at Marie Curtis Park on May 13th. And that gentleman works for Ryobi. And he sent an email to the marketing
Starting point is 01:56:03 department. And the marketing department and the marketing department said let's do this and the next thing you know what i'm on the fucking cover of the toronto star see how it works do you want to know the name of this fotm i'm going to say the name and then i'm going to kick out my next jam you want to know the name of this fotm stew yeah it's fucking langer wow the langanger banger? The Langer. And we are... Collective Soul Asylum.
Starting point is 01:56:36 Good song. Shine. I always liked this song. Langer It's a shame that the episodes have to end I could just do this for like 10 hours God I wish this was more frequent Joke Guru says It should be every other week
Starting point is 01:57:03 To keep it from going stale. Because it's toast. What, Christmas? You don't want your toast to go stale. Be a bit crusty. A little crusty. Yeah! Wow.
Starting point is 01:57:17 Oh! Jokororu. My apologies You know, the last two bands Both played at Woodstock 94 Wow There's a fun fact Could be the, what 20
Starting point is 01:57:39 28th anniversary Of Woodstock 94 Shout out to Brad Urquhart who had this. When I come around. All right, so I kicked out Shine by Collective Soul.
Starting point is 01:57:55 I got lots of things to say about this, James. They were a big band. Yeah. They still kind of are. Maybe three or four hits. Did you know this is, I mean, I think you do know,
Starting point is 01:58:03 but this is their debut single. Yeah. I know.. Did you know this is, I mean, I think you do know, but this is their debut single. Yeah. I know. So this is from Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid. What a 90s title. I thought that like... I would argue this remains
Starting point is 01:58:16 the most popular collective soul song. It was their first, I would argue it is. They had a lot of big hits, but I think this is their biggest. The World I Know. That's a good song. That was a cross. Yeah, I think Shine is their big one, World I Know. That's a good song. That was a cross.
Starting point is 01:58:25 Yeah, I think Shine is their big one, but that's my opinion there. Oh, that can't be true. The World That I Know is from a Meg Ryan movie or something. I think Shine is a bigger hit, but okay. So, it was number one. It's my show. In terms of the album rock songs of 94.
Starting point is 01:58:40 It won the Billboard Award for top rock track. Whoa. It was number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a week. And VH1 ranked it as the 42nd greatest song of the 90s. Shine by Collective Soul?
Starting point is 01:58:57 Shine by Collective Soul. You were surveyed for that? So there's a line in this song. There's a line in this song about heaven. Let your light shine down. Do you guys deem this who went to bed? Beck, you're not allowed to go to bed. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:59:11 We're just getting started here. Do you think this is Christian rock? They are a Christian rock band, aren't they? So I ask you the question. Heaven, let your light shine down. I thought that they're a Christian rock band.
Starting point is 01:59:23 That's what I always believed. Well, like Alice in Chains had that song heaven beside you. Are they a Christian rock band. That's what I always believe. Well, like Alice in Chains had that song Heaven Beside You. Are they a Christian rock band? You know, the mere mention of heaven is not enough to... Heaven, let your light shine down. The
Starting point is 01:59:35 Hunger... Temple of the Dog, almost called Hunger Strike, had that great song about heaven. Oh, Say Hello to Heaven. Or like Psychedelic Furs Heaven. Leva Famke apparently went to bed an hour ago, but I would too if I lived with Juan. Hey-o!
Starting point is 01:59:52 Actually, Heaven could have been. Heaven isn't too far away. Heaven isn't. And then Brian Adams. That's a great song. Talking Heads had a song. Okay, but you're a rock track. The mention of Heaven doesn't make you a Christian rock band.
Starting point is 02:00:05 A Christian rock song. I'm just wondering,'t make you a Christian rock band. No. A Christian rock song. I'm just wondering because there is a Christian rock heritage to Collective Soul and this song is Christian-y. Even the name.
Starting point is 02:00:13 I'm just asking you two fine gentlemen if you think this might be a Christian rock song. Isn't the band Blessed Union of Souls? Yes. They were like an acapella group?
Starting point is 02:00:21 No, they had I believe love is the answer. All right, I have a couple of mind blows here. I have a couple of mind blows here. I have a mind blow for you. So you're listening now to Collective Soul Shine, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:00:35 Okay. Let me play another song for you that you know. Oh, yeah, they had a Christmas song in December, too. Oh, this is a good song. Oh, yeah. What does this have to do with that? Sound a Christmas song in December. Oh, this is a good song. Oh yeah. What does this have to do with that? Sound delay.
Starting point is 02:00:48 Listen closely. One of my faves right here. Drown. I think Cam kicked out more songs by this band than any other band in pandemic history. I love this song. Yeah. The N.W.A. That's right. The owner.
Starting point is 02:01:19 Hey. An underappreciated Pumpkin song. Singles soundtrack. Yes, yes. That this would get played on CFNY. Okay, so why am I playing Drown by Smashing Pumpkins? It's a great song. It is a great song, but I'm playing it for a specific reason here.
Starting point is 02:01:43 It is a great song, but I'm playing it for a specific reason here. Billy Corgan tried to sue to say that the song Shine was copying Drown by Smashing Pumpkins. I don't hear it. I can hear it, but I don't think it's copied. I don't hear it. Who wrote that? Oh, I know. By the way, can you read YYZ's manifesto? Due to the song's lyrical themes, particularly the mention of heaven, Who wrote that? Oh, I know. By the way, can you read YYZ's manifesto?
Starting point is 02:02:07 Due to the song's lyrical themes, particularly the mention of heaven, Collective Soul was often early on regarded as a Christian band, Ed Roland elaborated. I remember around the time Shine came out, getting into an argument with a writer who said... I was going to say they're from Georgia. Fucking America. Sorry, let's take that again. Due to the song's lyrical themes, particularly the mention of heaven,
Starting point is 02:02:23 Collective Soul was often early on regarded as a Christian band, Ed Roland elaborated. Well, I remember around the time Sean came out getting into an argument with a writer who said, you're a Christian band. I said, no, we're not. Well, you have the word heaven in your song, and I said, well, so does Led Zeppelin. I don't remember anyone saying they were a Christian band.
Starting point is 02:02:44 He has a good southern accent. Yeah, he's an actor. He was in fucking Donnie Darko. They would like me to do it with an English accent now. Okay, if I may.
Starting point is 02:02:52 Yes. The reason that Billy Corgan was unsuccessful is because Collective Soul was able to produce demos of Shine
Starting point is 02:03:00 that predate Drown. Oh. So there's demos of Shine recorded before Billy Corgan wrote Drown. So there's demos of Shine recorded before Billy Corgan wrote Drown. Maybe the pumpkins ripped off and Collective Soul turned the tables.
Starting point is 02:03:13 But I have one more little mind blow here. I have a mind blow for you. Let me do this one. This is a quick one. Due to the song's lyrical themes, particularly the mention of Heaven, Collective Soul was often early on regarded as a Christian band. Ed Rowland elaborated, I remember around the time when Shine came out.
Starting point is 02:03:32 Sheeky. I'm going to stop there. Hey. Give me your word. Hey. Whoa. Wow, Dolly. Rock and roll hall of fame potential inductee against her will.
Starting point is 02:03:44 And they said, yeah, we'll do it without you, Dolly. She totally works in this stuff. I know. I'm full of the fucking mind blows with toast. Nice. Well done. I'm bringing my A game. Whoever said we were light on the jams this week.
Starting point is 02:04:01 Who said that? Somebody who's wrong. I'm booting them from here. This is great. Like a real bluegrass. I watched her documentaries, the Dolly documentary. I saw it too. Pretty good.
Starting point is 02:04:17 Everybody likes Dolly. Didn't she cure COVID? She did. She paid for it out of pocket. YYZ says this is better than the original. So let's talk about this. Shall we? When is that from?
Starting point is 02:04:31 What year was that? 2001. Wow. Dolly Parton put out an album called Little Sparrow. Little Sparrow. With members of the bluegrass band Nickel Creek. But don't drink Nickel Creek. You can only drink Great Lakes
Starting point is 02:04:48 Brewery if you're a good Epochan. Not to be confused with Nickelback. Right. Do you know that this recording by Dolly Parton, this cover, earned her a Grammy award. She won the Grammy for
Starting point is 02:05:03 Best Female Country Vocal Performance for this jam, for this song. Wow. I like it a lot. Is there other songs called Shine that we don't know about? Probably. Lots of Shine. I only picked the three I dug and I moved on.
Starting point is 02:05:24 So I don't know. I didn't know we were doing that we're not doing that i didn't do my homework like mike all your songs were like alt rock songs uh let me see yeah doughboys junk house and collective soul yeah i have a type as they say i have a type i think if there's another can con song called shine you It could have been a three. Anyone in the live chat can tell me another No One song. Lanois, Shine. It's like a shine.
Starting point is 02:05:51 Which one? Lanois. Manois. I'm pleading ignorance. Mantor. Oh, Daniel Lanois. Yeah, Daniel Lanois. Danny.
Starting point is 02:06:00 Speaking of Hamilton. Speaking of the hammer. Have you ever tried to get him on? I i feel like i had mark howard on interesting so there was a sorry sorry sorry sorry so i was thinking about the lawsuit that you mentioned that smashing pumpkins tried to see drown and versus shine yeah i don't hear the correlation there but go ahead whatever you were gonna say just that. Just that I feel Dan, I would love Daniel Lenoir. I have a great story about him from Stephen Brunt.
Starting point is 02:06:29 What is it? Something about cocaine and Stevie Nicks tush? That's John Gallagher's story. Big League Babylon. When I was at McMaster, he lived in the Westdale area, west of McMaster, and people used to see him all the time at the coffee shops. He'd just be around, or there'd be like
Starting point is 02:06:45 a street festival he'd be playing yeah that's what I hear that's what Stephen Brun said he was just playing this thing and there was nobody there no one knew who he was
Starting point is 02:06:52 like if they did they didn't care his brother just passed away was it Bob? yes he just passed away shut up to Ridley but Daniel's still with us
Starting point is 02:07:02 and I would love to get him on Toronto Mike if anyone knows him hook me up let's do it I'm excited about that's where I was going like about an hour ago to Ridley Funeral Home. But Daniel's still with us and I would love to get him on Toronto Mike. If anyone knows him, hook me up. Let's do it. I'm excited about, that's where I was going like about an hour ago.
Starting point is 02:07:09 My guest on Monday is from the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, Chris Brown. Whoa. I don't have Kate Fenner yet, but Chris Brown. Holy shit,
Starting point is 02:07:18 how'd that come in? I want to say he's friends with Pete Fowler and Pete Fowler loves the fucking podcast and tells people to do it is he like in Wolf Island now? I think he is with Stephen Stanley maybe
Starting point is 02:07:30 yeah I saw Stephen Stanley just played a gig there like over the weekend or something he's in this book I did an episode with the guy I mentioned David Binks who put together That Night at Massey Hall and Lois Lowe played Massey Hall and we talked about great Canadian bands that played Massey Hall.
Starting point is 02:07:45 And there's a great piece there by former Massey Hall usher Stephen Stanley. I do wonder if you'll get people think it's the other Chris Brown on your podcast.
Starting point is 02:07:56 Like, oh, musician Chris Brown. Think what you want. Who knows here? Who knows here? There's a shine by Take That. Forever I go. whatever I do.
Starting point is 02:08:07 I didn't mean it. I just want you back to shine. Shine, shine, shine. Shine, shine, shine. Okay, thank you, Dolly Parton. I'm now ready for Stu Stone's final jam. Well, you know, this is a song, Mike. There's a little bit of a tie-in, I guess,
Starting point is 02:08:24 to Cam Gordon's Completely Ignored podcast, which has gone mostly completely ignored. Is it coming back? It's off the internet. Sammy and I decided to like... Put it on hiatus? Kevorkian. No, it's not coming back.
Starting point is 02:08:37 Oh. I don't have the time. He's busy selling houses. Why don't you do it here? Maybe. Let's talk. We'll probably rebrand it if we do. You had some big guests. Yeah. Eric Alper.? Maybe. Let's talk. We'll probably rebrand it if we do. You had some big guests.
Starting point is 02:08:46 Yeah, Eric Alper, Stu Stone. No, no. You want to start a new show, just us? You two and Gibby. Sure. With me, you and Rance Mullenix. Wait a minute. PPMM, except with Stu instead of Brother Bill.
Starting point is 02:08:59 What do you think? No, I wouldn't do that to Brother Bill. But Brother Bill would do that to me. Because then it's toast. See what I did there? That becomes toast. I would say this, though. He's not here to defend him. No, I wouldn't do that to Brother Bill, but Brother Bill would do that to me. Because then it's toast. See what I did there? That becomes toast. I would say this, though. He's not here to defend him.
Starting point is 02:09:07 No, I like him. I will say that I picked three songs and they all have the same name and the first one I played was a 1993 recorded song that Monica loves
Starting point is 02:09:20 called Creep by TLC. The second one I released or I, I, I played was a 1993 released a song called creep by stone tumble pilots. Love it. And I believe if I'm not mistaken, yeah,
Starting point is 02:09:39 this band's album debut album came out in 1993. Whoa. So all three of my songs within the same year, same name, all popular songs. And all great. All massive. All popular songs. Massive hits. Popular songs within the same year with the same name. But none more popular than this one. Pretty fucked up. In our circles.
Starting point is 02:09:56 Yes. Whoo! You know what's so good about this song? That it really... It was the perfect sort of bait and switch like that you could ever imagine because like you heard this song and it brought you to it brought you to the warehouse or the docks or wherever they came to play that show when we all went to the pablo honey tour and then you discovered all this other music that was like whoa, wait a minute. There's something to these guys. Right. So it's like almost like the perfect sort of commercial
Starting point is 02:10:49 song to pull you in and then get you sucked into the world. We're listening to Radiohead, obviously. Cool House. That's what it was. The government. A lot of motion. Like you never would have guessed in 1993 this would arguably be, like, the biggest rock band of the 2000s. You know, start in the conversation.
Starting point is 02:11:14 So many things about this song that fall under the qualifications of stuff that we love around here. First of all, another song where the band didn't even like the song, didn't want to put it out, becomes the biggest song that they've ever put out. Right. Right. How many times do we have songs like that on Pandemic Friday and Toast?
Starting point is 02:11:33 Exclusively. That's a thing that we love. Right. How about songs we love, songs where the bass player wrote the song? We love those songs. They're the best. That's one of these right here. Nothing beats that. Mike Hogan wrote itogan Isn't that crazy
Starting point is 02:11:46 Love it Radiohead This song came out The album came out In 1993 Pablo Honey The song actually Came out late 92 But obviously
Starting point is 02:11:55 It took a while To get going Here's the fucking Mind blow There's so many Mind blows guys It's an epic jam For a guy our age
Starting point is 02:12:02 The song was a Complete dud When it came out. A DJ, and now you want to talk about Happy Purim. Was it Chris Shepherd? A DJ in Israel played it. The song first got exposure in Israel. You never hear that.
Starting point is 02:12:21 That's not where you go traditionally. That's not where you go. The Backstreet Boys came to Canada. Radiohead went to Israel to become popular with this song. And then it ended up, you know, BBC Radio didn't want to play this song. Said it was too depressing. And I actually have the name of the guy. An Israel DJ named Yoav Kuttner played Creep often on Israeli radio.
Starting point is 02:12:43 Wow. And it became a national hit. Radiohead quickly set up tour dates. Richard Kuttner played Creep often on Israeli radio. Wow. And it became a national hit. Radiohead quickly set up tour dates. Richard Kuttner. Radiohead quickly set up tour dates in Israel to capitalize on the success. Of course, we all know that Radiohead turned out to be really great. They're Jerusalem shows. Here's a fun fact for Cam Gordon.
Starting point is 02:13:05 Oh. The version issued for RadioPlay replaces the lyric, so fucking special, to so very special. Radiohead worried that issuing a censored version would be selling out, but decided it was, I'll do this in my best Alan Cross, but decided it was acceptable since their idols sonic youth had done the same thing there you go for what what song what do i think you'll have to figure that out on your own thing or something oh chuck t's in that wow yeah how about that tell it like it is. Yeah. You mentioned in your song that there was a lawsuit. Yes.
Starting point is 02:13:48 Billy Corgan. There was a lawsuit with this song as well. Check it out. I completely hear it. This is more obvious to me than Drown versus Shine. It's so obvious. Yeah, like the melodies. I love this mind blow you're doing.
Starting point is 02:14:09 No one knows this version. No one also knows what song this is yet. Well, they don't know this version, that's for sure. But the next one. Anyway, this is wonderful what you did here. It's a double mind blow. A real Stew Stone special coming here. Almost as good as my show.
Starting point is 02:14:28 It's like Christy Moore. Once we get into what this is, this lawsuit actually worked out, and now this guy got credit for writing Radiohead Creep and got paid on it. Wow. Wow. Albert Hammond is this guy's name.
Starting point is 02:14:42 Oh. Sons in the Strokes. What more could I ask? Wow. Albert Hammond is this guy's name. Oh. Suns and the Strokes. Can't wait for the chorus to come in. Cam's going to be like, oh! He's like, oh, that's what this is. It's one of those two first songs. Don't bore us.
Starting point is 02:15:01 Get to the chorus. Come on, Albert. I know. It's beautiful It's like it's the same Lots of similarities There you go Oh wow This is what, the Hollies? All I need is the air There you go Oh wow There you go
Starting point is 02:15:25 Okay This is what The Hollies or Now here's a crazy Dump Remember those Mind Blows Really started songs We didn't know were a cover
Starting point is 02:15:34 Were a cover Let's get into it Miker Wow The air that I breathe Which everybody knows As a song by The Hollies
Starting point is 02:15:43 Is a cover. Who knew that? I did not know that. I did not know that. The Hollies song is a cover of an Albert Hammond song, which Radiohead then sampled. This is why we do toast. This is why the FOTMs need more toast.
Starting point is 02:16:02 Not once a fucking month. Even this part sounds like creepy. Yeah. It's the same composition. Wow. Why do I not know this? I know.
Starting point is 02:16:15 I've never heard this. Some fun facts about this song. The engineer of this Holly's song. Alan Parsons. Whoa. And yes, now I hear the bulls. That's why you're wearing
Starting point is 02:16:27 the Michael Jordan sweater. And then, of course, the Hollies, a fun fact about the Hollies, we've mentioned bands where the main kind of dude left the band and they got bigger.
Starting point is 02:16:39 Well, Graham Nash was a member of the Hollies, left the band, and then they blew up. Wow. With this. Wow. He dated Joni Mitchell, right?
Starting point is 02:16:52 That's right. Not Devil in the Blue Dress or Long Cool Woman. Long Cool Woman in a Blue Dress. Weird band. Very different than... Kind of a heavy Cool band The Hollies
Starting point is 02:17:05 Totally The Hollies Were inducted Into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame In 2010 We should wait Till the chorus
Starting point is 02:17:12 Hits us here Because the production Is real nice Shout out to Alan Parsons And apparently Eric Clapton COVID denier
Starting point is 02:17:19 Boo Said that the As soon as he heard The first note of this song He said it was Had more soul Than anything he'd ever heard in his life, was this song. Kind of reminds me of old Bee Gees.
Starting point is 02:17:34 Oh, Before the Falsetto. Before the Falsetto. Don't forget, he ain't heavy, he's my brother, is a Holly's Jam. Right. So, the air that I breathe. Also, I can't live if living is without you oh no that's Harry Nielsen
Starting point is 02:17:47 and we've had three episodes of toast and three victories for Stu Stone there you go credit where it's due those were some good mind blows I never heard that Pauly's radio and it's so obvious very interesting
Starting point is 02:18:04 I always learn something from you guys. Thanks for making the trek. I know you're not exactly living next door like Kareem or Bojana. It's worth a schlep. But you know what? And we can talk offline. If you were interested in every third Thursday, I'm open to this. Listen, you tell me when to be here.
Starting point is 02:18:21 Is that easy? I mean, I like coming here and doing this. You want to know why? Because my mom likes it. And I like your mom. And I like to see Cam, and I like to see you, Mike, and I love talking to the FOTMs. And being hidden away from them for so long was crippling to my psyche.
Starting point is 02:18:40 Oh. So we'll talk. I like the break first. Wait, wait, wait. Let's hear from Cam. That's true. It takes three to. I like the break first. Wait, wait, wait. Let's hear from Cam. That's true. It takes three to tango. Everybody knows that.
Starting point is 02:18:49 Cam, you want to keep this as the third Thursday of every month? Uh-uh. Is that a good... Don't put me on the spot. I don't know. I mean, that was my initial idea. Yeah, like once a month. The thereabouts seems good to me.
Starting point is 02:19:02 So you heard it, FOTMs. You heard it here. Stu and Mike are ready to go every third Thursday. You guys can do your own thing. Cam is making... Do you want to start our own podcast, Stu? Sure. Can you, me, and Gibby do a podcast?
Starting point is 02:19:12 Yes. You know, we're learning to live with COVID. I'm back in the office. We have some business trips planned. Okay, so what is the third Thursday of April? Let's just check out what that date is so we can tease it. Cam definitely does not hate this. I didn't say I hate it. He loves this.
Starting point is 02:19:30 First of all, Cam's hero is Toronto Mike. Is that true, Cam? It's like me hanging with Gibby. I love doing this too. The next episode of Toast is the 21st. The 21st of April.
Starting point is 02:19:47 If I'm available. What do you mean? Where are you going to be? Listen, shit's getting crazy right now. Then why are you telling me you want it to be third fucking Thursday? I'm just telling you what you want to hear, Mike. Are you going away in April? Possibly.
Starting point is 02:19:58 You're going away in April. What's this? This is the worst song in the history of your show. So not. This is the Pizza Hut Ninja Turtle song. Here are the... It sounds like Mark Wahlberg singing in the Boogie Nights. Probably was.
Starting point is 02:20:19 That's why we're here and we're telling you true. We're coming out of a shell. I think it's fun. I just like this song because it makes me think of you guys. And I want to let you know how much I enjoy these episodes of Toast. I look forward to it for weeks. Sounds like
Starting point is 02:20:48 what's the band with those two twin brothers with the long blonde hair? Nelson. It's a bit Nelson. A bit Nelson-y. Full Nelson. Now you have to order a personal pan pizza to get that song.
Starting point is 02:21:05 Stewstone. Always a pleasure, Mike. Nelson. Now you had to order a personal pan pizza to get that song. Yeah. Stew Stone. Always a pleasure, Mike. I want FOTMs to watch the Stew Stone sessions. The Stew Sessions. If it's hard to find, you can just go on YouTube and look it up. The Astrolab website also hosts all the episodes with nice write-ups and photography and all this stuff. If you can't find it,
Starting point is 02:21:23 hit me up. I'll point you in the right direction. Cam Gordon, I can't wait to have lunch at your place of employment. Yeah. Let me know. Anytime. You're welcome to. Stu. If you showed up on time, you would have heard this.
Starting point is 02:21:36 Yeah. You're welcome to, Stu. What kind of lunch are you guys offering? Today we had halal guys. Very tasty. I'd like to come. Yeah. Yummy.
Starting point is 02:21:45 So I'll see you guys here on the 21st of April. We'll discuss what the topic will be. Kana Cabana should sponsor
