Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Rosie. Hey Mike. Hey everybody. We're Mike. Hey, everybody. We're back. Podcast number three. It is nice to be back in the T-Dot. Well, you've been away traveling the world. You've been quite the world traveler. I was in Paris, and then I was in Amsterdam, and then I was in Dublin, and now I'm home.
Starting point is 00:00:41 And it's nice to go away and check out these cool European cities but it's nice to come back. Now all of you listening can't see what I see. It's quite a sight. But Toronto Mike is sporting a very nice new sweater. Did you get that sweater away? Okay, yeah. I'm glad you asked about the sweater because when I saw Nirvana's Unplugged in New York,
Starting point is 00:01:07 I guess that was 94, and Kurt Cobain was sitting there in that ratty old cardigan sweater. Can you picture him there in the gray cardigan? I always thought one day I want a ratty old cardigan sweater of my own. But you can't buy these things ratty and old. You got to buy them new and then wear them to death, and then they become the ratty old cardigans. I do hate to break it to you. It does not look ratty.
Starting point is 00:01:31 It looks pretty pristine. It's pretty freaking new. I picked this up. It's the only thing I bought in Europe. An Irish sheep made this beautiful sweater. Dublin's full of sweaters, and I picked it up in Dublin. It's really nice. You did well. If that was the only thing you bought, you did well.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Did you get anything else while you were away, Mike? Yeah. Well, you know, Mr. Wixon, this is going to be an interesting little thing. I'm thinking I should sort of tease everybody by telling them next episode, episode four, Toronto Mike will reveal all, because my audience is not as up to date as everybody in this room. So I can't just sort of come out with this news until I sort of give a bit of context in about the last couple of years. I just think it's nice that you came out. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Yay! Hey now. Yes, I think you need to. Okay, so how's this? How's this? Because a lot of times when I'm commenting on your site, there'll be a little something or other I want to share. And I'm like, oh, I don't know how up-to-date everyone is. This is the problem with a public blog.
Starting point is 00:02:34 You're right. It's a problem with a personal blog is you write a lot about personal stuff and then you write your observations. And then at some point you stop writing about the real really personal side of things and then things kind of evolve in that area and then you realize like if you're a casual reader you're stuck in 2011 2010 for example and for that news to be shared which is exciting great news for me i just need to sort of spend some time on the subject so I'm going to tease it that in episode four I'm going to reveal all.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I do think you should share it because it's a personal blog but it's public. But I think what makes it really special is that it does feel very personal to everybody. Yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:03:19 I think everyone feels a little bit like they know Toronto Mike. I'm going to get everybody back up to speed in one episode. So next episode. So not this episode, next episode. But I do want to introduce the man who asked that great question, Mike Wixon.
Starting point is 00:03:35 I feel like I shouldn't have asked it. Sorry, what did you say, though? Nice to have you on the show. Thank you, buddy. Hi, Mike. Welcome home. Hi, Rosie. How home. Hi, Rosie. How's it going?
Starting point is 00:03:45 Good. Very good. The studio is empty without you two. Is that true? Is that true? Well, this is a great studio. Although today, driving here, I have to share this with you guys and see what you think. So normally I drive along the lakeshore because I always have little things to do along there.
Starting point is 00:04:02 But today, I was running a little late, so I took the Horner Avenue way. And I drove past this massive, sprawling, huge building. It was a gorgeous building. It's the Toronto South Detention Centre that is getting built. And I was admiring it, and I'm like, oh my God, it's a jail! There's a jail, it's a huge jail. It's a pretty looking building, though, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:04:24 It is beautiful. Future home of Mike Wixon. Well, you know, just weekends. Yeah, for now. But I was admiring the windows. It was so gorgeous. There's all this beautiful landscaping and stones. And I think it's great.
Starting point is 00:04:39 It's massive. Wasn't it like a $30 million endeavor or something crazy? Huge. And I had read about it. So I knew it was coming, but it was the first time I'd actually seen it. And then I have to admit, I felt a little bad because I was like, oh, there's a jail so close to me.
Starting point is 00:04:51 And I felt bad for feeling like that. Do they host weddings there? Can you lease that space? Yeah, but they're very different than the average wedding for a lot of reasons. Oh, and that Rob Ford won't attend, I suppose. I'll guarantee he will not. Well, I just, I felt bad about feeling bad that there was a jail so close to my house
Starting point is 00:05:11 because, I mean, it's not like they're going to escape and be... Not from that facility. It's pretty tight. It looked crazy. It looked so huge, but it's big and beautiful. So that was... So you're saying people can't be rehabilitated? I can't. rehabilitated this week?
Starting point is 00:05:30 She's not saying that. No, you're going to take a different route to the studio next week. That's right. I just want to not think about it. 420 Where are you again? Oh yeah, I was going to say QEW. Yeah, there's a, where are we here? Brown's Line. Brown's Line. You're close, you're close.
Starting point is 00:05:45 We did lose an icon here in Toronto this week. The great Sam Snyderman passed away at the young age of 92. And thank you for breaking that news to me. It was your website that I found out about it first. My buddy Mark Weisblot mentioned that his personal friend. You know Mark Weisblot? Mark Weisblot mentioned that his personal friend, you know Mark Weisblot? Mark Weisblot is the fucking best. It's true.
Starting point is 00:06:09 I think that was our first swear word. Awesome. Now we can swear. Somebody did it first. I'd call us digital buddies, so we exchange emails and stuff, and his personal friend broke the news earlier that day, but no mainstream media had it,
Starting point is 00:06:21 so I knew Sam Snyderman was dead, but you couldn't read about it anywhere in the mainstream. Okay, because I thought so. Just for those who don't know who he is. Yeah, I should point out, Sam Snyderman is better known as Sam the Record Man. And if you don't know who Sam the Record Man is, you're not from this part of the world.
Starting point is 00:06:36 You have no soul. You're an ex-journalist. 92. He was 92, but it got me thinking about Sam the Record Man's flagship store at Young and Dundas. And how many Saturdays I got up, took the TTC, Jane Station to Young and Bloor, then switch over to Dundas, and then got out and walked that building. Like, how many Saturdays did I do that when I was a teenager? And then when HMV showed up, I would do the two, but we also had A&A a couple of years then.
Starting point is 00:07:04 So I used to be the three. And basically my rule was I would buy wherever it's cheaper, the discs, because I used to buy music every week. But if it was a tie, I always bought it at Sam's. That was my deal. In the case of a tie, I buy it at Sam's. Because Sam's had more character. This is a cool point. Okay, so we're all kind of from the same era.
Starting point is 00:07:22 What record store did you go to for your imports? Okay, so we're all kind of from the same era. What record store did you go to for your imports? I didn't buy a lot of imports, but I would have gone down to the same area. Same area? Yeah. I used to go to Vortex. Do you remember Vortex Records? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Is that Wellesley and Young? It was Queen and something, but there was Vortex, and then there was a couple of sort of alternative ones on Queen West. So you would start at Young and Dundas and then make your way along Queen Street to the cool hip stores that had all the... So you were cooler than I am because Bad Motor Finger wasn't an import, so I didn't have to worry about it. Ah, there you go.
Starting point is 00:07:56 I remember. I have such fond memories of, I mean, I used to buy cassettes. Yeah, of course. There in Sam's, right at the back, there was this wall, and it had, it was just like a to buy cassettes. Yeah, of course. They're at Sam's right at the back. There was this wall and it had, it was just like a wall of cassettes. And they had, they were just, they were crammed all in there. And I remember the first Pretenders music that I'd ever bought was Night In My Veins. And it was this little cassette and it was so good. And that was the first time I'd ever really heard.
Starting point is 00:08:25 And I think I still have it. Is that the first cassette you ever bought? No, I think the first, I think it was, I think it was in excess, the first one I ever bought. Yes! 87, okay. So I beat you, but that's pretty good. But I still remember buying Seven and the Ragged Tiger.
Starting point is 00:08:42 I had Rio though, but I had Rio on vinyl. Yeah. Record. Okay, vinyl. That's how old I am. Well, I had a lot of vinyl too. You had Michael Jackson. Yeah, the first record I bought my own because I had all these
Starting point is 00:08:52 golden oldies cassettes from gas stations. Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. I had this too. Like 50s music and The Great Pretender and all this.
Starting point is 00:08:58 But then I got Why I Wanted Duran Duran and I remember buying Rio on record and then seven in the Ragged Tiger on cassette. So good. For those about to rock ACDC. nice excellent that's well done is that the one with the canon
Starting point is 00:09:10 on the front I'll have to ask Elvis who swears by ACDC but I don't know is this Elvis on your yeah on your site Elvis who thinks Kiss is a really good band also think well at least ACDC beats is better than Kiss wow I. I like ACDC. Yeah. Taste in music is subjective as is taste in television shows even though although you don't agree with that that it's subjective. Rosie, Rosie, Rosie.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Did you guys have a little fight? We're always fighting. We have a rule though. We actually won't talk off microphone. We talk, the only thing we'll talk about is how we won't talk
Starting point is 00:09:40 when we're not on microphone. So you just sit around shushing each other? I actually don't speak to Mike in the real world i haven't spoken to him since 2003 that's right but tv shows okay i was gonna ask you guys about this what new shows you're digging if you're digging any new shows i am a male a hetero contrary to popular belief, I'm a heterosexual male, but I did recently watch every episode of the first season of HBO's Girls. Because I told you to. Because I heard it was up for some Emmys and it was popular.
Starting point is 00:10:14 So before we talk about Girls, and we will, this is, I need to know. Yeah. Would you have watched Girls if you hadn't have heard it was so amazing? Meaning, do you feel that there are some shows that are chick shows of course yeah of course of course so i'm not sure there's i would never watch girls if it wasn't critically acclaimed okay because i do feel that there and there's a discussion of this going on on your website about shows that shows that are girl shows and
Starting point is 00:10:42 boy shows because i feel the only way I can explain why I don't dig the wire as much as everyone else does, Mike's head is exploding, is because it is a boy show and I think there was a little bit of It is. That's why Wixson doesn't like it.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And again, I'm mad at myself a lot today because, what does that mean? It's a boy show. But how else can I describe it? I recognize it's brilliant, it's that mean it's a boy's show but how else can I describe it I recognize it's brilliant it's complex it's layered
Starting point is 00:11:07 the writing is incredible I watched it it was really good but I just can't get into it the way I got into Sopranos which is better
Starting point is 00:11:15 you have an Italian Canadian bias you know what you've said that before that's wrong it has nothing to do with being Italian it's one of my
Starting point is 00:11:21 five favorite shows of all time come on I love The Sopranos I think it might be the second greatest show of all time. Yeah, yeah. Come on. I love The Sopranos. I think it might be the second greatest show of all time. Maybe Six Feet Under is a little better. Yes. The Wire is heads and tails better than any other show I've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Okay, so this is the problem with that argument. Yeah. The Wire is excellent. However, what makes something a brilliant show is will it stand the test of time? Sopranos is going to stand the test of time as being... It's like three years older than The Wire. You make it sound like it's 30 years. It's not MASH.
Starting point is 00:11:54 We're not talking about The Twilight Zone, okay? Which is also a really good show. There's someone on your site that loves The Twilight Zone. Oh, CQ, who doesn't understand why we waste time with these shows when The Twilight Zone is available in the public domain. Oh my god, he's so cute though because i was actually going to comment i really like the twilight so i'm sure there's a lot of things i know i don't think he's cute but i'm like you know what i do i like the i wanted to give him some support there because i like the twilight zone that's also subjective mike he might well be cute in somebody's my kids like full house okay
Starting point is 00:12:19 which i've never i've yet to see a complete episode i used to like full house okay but the i don't know why you haven't given the wire a fair shot, because if you did, you'd love it, and you'd say, I'm so sorry, Mike. I was wrong about The Wire. It's fantastic. Mike Wixon. Yes. Have you ever watched The Wire?
Starting point is 00:12:34 Oh, yeah. Have you watched the entire 60 episodes? I have not, but I picked it up from last season, and I thought I would be lost. And by the way, you won't be. You won't be, because there's enough new revelations right away to get you. But I'll tell you what The Wire didn't do for me, though. Tell me. It hasn't made me go back in time.
Starting point is 00:12:56 Well, you didn't start it in episode one. I don't think that's a series you should pick up late. I think you should start from episode one. But I think that's a criticism of it in itself. I don't think it should matter where you pick it up. It's like a book. No, I disagree. How do you read your novels? You read it first chapter first.
Starting point is 00:13:09 This is a five chapter, sorry, yeah, five chapter novel. I think if something is compelling enough, you should be able to pick it up. Sopranos I picked up in the second season. Yeah, because every episode nothing happens. It's like you have four episodes To the whole series where something happens The Wire I don't think I'm asking too much That you start with episode one season one And progress through it in chronological order I did I progressed not to the end
Starting point is 00:13:33 But I progressed to Your beloved season four which is Amazing it is amazing I just again I Wanted to you know super Love it but I do know chicks who dig it. Oh, I know.
Starting point is 00:13:46 It might be a guy show. But I don't know why Wixen doesn't like it. No, no. I didn't say I didn't like it. I like it a lot. I just haven't gone back in time. I think because... It's worth it.
Starting point is 00:13:57 Do you think it's better than this? I just don't have a lot of expendable time. No, I know. No one has time. Apparently. I mean, I feel like I'm very busy, but I do watch a lot of TV. What are you watching? Well, Girls. New HBO show. Amazing. Amazing, amazing,
Starting point is 00:14:10 amazing. It is really good. And that's my point. It's really dirty. Even guys would like it. It's really good. Exactly. And I guess that is the thing. I guess there are some shows that are maybe girl-feeling or boy-feeling, but at the end of the day, if it's good enough, it's going to transcend that. I'm about to start watching Boardwalk Empire. Heard it's good enough yeah it's gonna transcend you got it i'm
Starting point is 00:14:25 about to start watching boardwalk empire heard it's amazing so good oh really so yeah the three episodes the three episodes i've seen so far are absolutely brilliant like it's so well done okay good because omar's in that too yes he's awesome he's amazing no because it's true you have a very you know limited amount of time so i don't want to waste it with okay that's one of my i have a list of shows when i have more time i want to waste it with okay that's one of my i have a list of shows when i have more time i want to watch boardwalk empire is on it what else what do you all you would like girls okay i'm up to date i'm up to date in a couple of shows that i enjoy quite a bit one is breaking bad uh do either of you watch breaking i don't but i i sounds
Starting point is 00:14:58 amazing it is excellent it's not nearly as good as the wire or sopranos for that matter or six feet under but it's a great show and i'm'm looking forward to the last eight episodes that air next summer, I think. The Newsroom. Love The Newsroom. Okay, on this note, I don't think critics are liking The Newsroom from what I hear because people always say, oh, I heard it's bad, but I've watched the first, I don't know, six episodes.
Starting point is 00:15:19 I'll finish this first season. I really enjoy Sorkin stuff. Like, I like The West Wing. I like Sports Night. I like this one. I even like that 60's Sunset Strippers. What the hell was that thing called? I did too with the guy from Friends. Well, Matthew Perry was in it.
Starting point is 00:15:34 It was excellent. I like that. I know I like that. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I didn't even survive the first season. And I enjoyed that. I thought it was so good too. I like Sorkin stuff. I also liked Lipstick Jungle, another girl show. Never seen it, I think because it's like Sorcas. I like the newsroom. I also liked Lipstick Jungle, another girl's show. Never seen it,
Starting point is 00:15:47 I think because it's a girl's show. It's a girl's show. That I'll just say is a photo girl's show. Does Blackberry have a deal with the newsroom where they all have Blackberries? I thought the same thing. Yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 00:15:54 They have to. They all have a Blackberry and in the real world I don't see Blackberries. And some of the Blackberries that they're using. Well, newsrooms do have, people use Blackberries.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Some of the Blackberries they're using on that show don't exist yet in the public domain. Have you noticed that? But how can it when it's like taking place in the past?
Starting point is 00:16:09 Like it takes place last year, right? Is that the time? Will they have actual devices in there that you don't, I don't know. Well, the BlackBerry, the new devices will probably never exist.
Starting point is 00:16:18 We've been waiting for many years for these new BlackBerrys. I think it's just like a big carrot to use. I wanted to tell you about our new sponsor, BlackBerry. I actually root for BlackBerrys. I think it's just like a big carrot to use. I wanted to tell you about our new sponsor, BlackBerry. I actually root for BlackBerry because they're local.
Starting point is 00:16:29 I would love to see BlackBerry exceed. I totally agree. They make it very difficult to root for them. Have you guys seen Revolution? No. That's the one where there's a power war going on on Earth. Well, North America. It's a pretty good series, actually.
Starting point is 00:16:43 It's well thought out, too. If you like, I don't know, if you're into the... It's kind of different in the sense, but it's also got sort of that lost feel to it. I loved Lost, actually. Where you're not sure where it's going in the end, but it seems pretty compelling right now.
Starting point is 00:16:58 And Newsroom is really good. What's the dude's name who's on it? Jeff Daniels? Will McAvoy? Oh, the guy from Dumb and Dumber. Was he not born to play him? He was good. 100%. Will McAvoy Oh the guy from Dumb and Dumber Was he not born to play him He was good 100%
Starting point is 00:17:06 Will McAvoy He was so amazing I actually went And I When I'm DB'd Jeff Daniels after Because I'm like He's an amazing actor
Starting point is 00:17:13 He must be in a million things That I'm just not thinking of But he's done a lot of cool stuff He has He's done a lot of stuff But it's funny He didn't do as much big stuff As I thought
Starting point is 00:17:20 He picks his movies Like he did that one About the The squid and the whale And all that Oh I love that movie Oh my god No bomb but amazing Yeah the Canada goose And Anna Paquin as I thought. He picks his movies. He did that one about the... The Squid and the Whale and all that. Oh, I love that movie. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:17:26 No Bomba. Yeah, the Canada Goose and Anna Paquin. And it was good, actually. Yeah, it was good. Squid and the Whale is actually an amazing movie. I really love that movie. And then, of course,
Starting point is 00:17:34 he did Dumb and Dumber, which is... My kids love that movie. Yeah, it was great. That speech he makes in the early in episode one, I've re-watched it several times because it's so perfect. Me too.
Starting point is 00:17:46 It's so good. I think people like to hate on Aaron Sorkin, so I think that's what happened. Screw them. He's the ultimate casting guy, though. Look what he did with West Wing. Yeah, West Wing. Everybody on that was a believable character.
Starting point is 00:17:58 You just thought they did that job, and he does the same thing. So true. That is true. That was a great show. The first season of West Wing blew my mind, that first season. So true. That is true. That was a great show. The first season of West Wing blew my mind, that first season.
Starting point is 00:18:06 So good. But what I find funny is people are like, oh, Aaron Sorkin, the characters, nobody talks like that. No one does talk like that. That's what makes it awesome.
Starting point is 00:18:15 I don't want to watch television where people talk like the stupid people I talk to every day. Yeah, enough. Enough near reality. The people I talk to are idiots. I don't want to hear them
Starting point is 00:18:24 on television. Why do you think Glee is so popular? Is it because it's so realistic? No. Exactly. People want to escape. And if they want reality, they'll go watch guys fishing on an ice rig someplace. Seriously.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Those are the same guys who say, yeah. I hear that over and over. And I don't get it. They vote for W for president because they want a president that isn't smarter than they are. And they can relate to. They don't want a president who talks like a smart guy. Heaven forbid you vote for somebody who's smarter than you. He's talking out his ass and I don't even like that.
Starting point is 00:18:53 I love smart people. I love conversations that are smarter than ones I'm going to have in the average day. Most conversations I have are really stupid. You're right. Most people are stupid. Most people in this room are stupid. So I enjoy that. I enjoy how each... Do you ever see the
Starting point is 00:19:09 YouTube clip where they show Aaron Sorkin stealing from himself over and over again? So basically, he's got these lines he'd write for one show and he'd reuse them in another show, like verbatim. It's pretty funny. That's awesome. You gotta dig that up. It went viral. It is called Aaron Sorkin Steals
Starting point is 00:19:25 From Himself. Yeah. That's what I would Google. Sorkinisms is the other one that's on here that's really funny. I think I've seen that. Somebody put a link to that on your site. Yeah. 674,000 views. Oh, it's really kind of cool. So another show that, I mean, it just finished
Starting point is 00:19:41 season nine, So You Think you can dance. And I brought it up on your site and I completely thought no one was going to talk to me about it. Lauren, Lauren totally digs. So Lauren's a guy, right? Yeah. His wife is making him watch that show. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:19:57 No, it's OK. And I do believe that every man that is married has to watch. There's a few shows that if you're married, you've had to watch. Will and Grace, Sex and the City, So You Think You Can Dance, probably Top Chef, Dancing with the Stars, although I don't like Dancing with the Stars. But I was... Lauren is digging in.
Starting point is 00:20:13 These are all shows my mom watches. Somebody's going to find Lauren swinging in his closet. No, no. I was really happy that Lauren had similar taste. I've never seen an episode. I don't watch a lot of that reality stuff. I would never watch a dancing show. I just don't care about dancing.
Starting point is 00:20:27 But there's different, you know, dance. I wouldn't, I don't watch Dancing with the Stars because I don't know, I find something really sad about it. Like I find it sad. They depress me. It's like the stars that jump the shark. Exactly. It's like, oh my God, like Christy Alley just makes me sad.
Starting point is 00:20:41 It's just, I don't know. There's something I find like really sad about it. Whereas So You Think You Can Dance is these, you know, young, hungry, talented people. They're gorgeous and athletic and amazing. So it's in its ninth season and you're enjoying it. Yeah, well, it just finished.
Starting point is 00:20:50 It's amazing. I'm happy for you. What about, no one's, what about like scripted shows? Any other script? The show I'm starting, I've seen three episodes and my brother swears by it
Starting point is 00:20:59 is Sons of Anarchy. I hear it's amazing, but I've not seen it. So I've seen two episodes of that, and it's really good by the looks of it. I've done three, and I'm ready to keep going, because it's got me hooked.
Starting point is 00:21:10 What don't you like about it so far? Is there anything about it? No, I like it. It reminds me of sort of Breaking Bad, almost that kind of level of show. So, that's a quality show. It has that line of tension through the whole thing
Starting point is 00:21:20 that makes you almost not want to participate in it. That's a good feeling. You know what I mean? Yeah, I'm digging it. I want to watch the show that won all the Emmys, Homeland. You know what? I never knew anything about Homeland. I hate when that happens because I... It beat my Mad Men.
Starting point is 00:21:34 It beat my Breaking Bad. I was fine. Mad Men's great. Oh, by the way, that's another one. I love Mad Men. Continue. Mad Men's amazing. And I was actually worried that Mad Men would start to jump the shark that whole year off. And then season five came around and I was like, it's not going to be good. It was amazing. And I was actually worried that Mad Men would start to jump the shark. And, you know, that whole year off. And then season five came around and I was like, it's not going to be good. It was amazing.
Starting point is 00:21:49 It was excellent. It was so good. But I'm fine that they didn't, you know, win everything because. So Homeland. Where is this show? What network does it originate on? It's Super Channel. It's not.
Starting point is 00:21:58 Can they swear? I'm not sure. I don't know why I care. But I like the shows better when they can swear and show a little boobie and stuff. Of course. It's more, you know, raw and interesting because that's in real life.
Starting point is 00:22:08 You know, we swear, we show boobie. We sure do. All right. How did John Cryer win an Emmy? I've never seen that show. It's got to be... I have never seen it.
Starting point is 00:22:19 It's wild. The most ridiculous thing ever. I've never seen it. It was on a flight I was on recently and I still didn't watch it. But Homeland does, it does actually look, I mean, Claire Danes, she's awesome. My so-called life was amazing.
Starting point is 00:22:32 Oh, I was pleased that Game Change won Julianne Moore. What an amazing movie. It was a made-for-TV movie. Sarah Palin. I have it downloaded. I haven't seen it. You know what? Watch it.
Starting point is 00:22:44 It's so good because you really do get a sense. You know, the book actually did focus. These aren't really shows now. You're talking about just like a TV movie. Yeah, but it came to mind because it won. It did well at the Emmys. But TV movie, that's worth watching. Definitely Game Change was really good.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Speaking of game, you know what show everyone recommends to me and says I would love and I just haven't had time for it, but everyone will recommend to me game of thrones oh my goodness do you guys any of you guys watch this no but i want to i have it i always go i love the wire bring it you what you gotta watch game of thrones opening it's so trippy i haven't seen it the season one's at costco the dvd it's on the cost oh there you go so So it's on Netflix and Costco, and they both charge real money? Is that the deal? Michael. Michael. Not that I would ever, not that I would get it by any other means.
Starting point is 00:23:30 You should pay for art. I believe in art. Hey, I'm always the only one who doesn't like that show with the geeks on it. Oh, God, it makes me sick. Freaks and geeks? No. Oh, that was on last night. I was watching that.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Yeah, it was on. I watched the season one. It's only one season, actually. Seth, what's his name? Seth Rogen's in it? Yeah, a lot of cool guys in that. Yeah, that was on last night. I was watching that. I watched the season one. It's only one season, actually. Seth, what's his name? Seth Rogen's in it? Yeah, a lot of cool guys in it. Yeah, a bunch of different. No, the one with all the nerds in it.
Starting point is 00:23:50 What's that one called? Tarek, you know it. The IT Crowd? Oh, I know. My kids watch this, too. Yeah. It's from the guy. Yeah, it's the Barenaked Ladies do the theme song.
Starting point is 00:24:00 Yeah, that's the one. What's that show called? How come we don't know the name of this show? What do you mean? It's so popular. It's so popular. Like, most watched show in Canada. It's got the nerds on it. The guy's the one. What's that show called? How come we don't know the name of this show? What do you mean? It's so popular. Like most watched show in Canada. It's got the nerds on it.
Starting point is 00:24:06 The guys, the geeks. Sheldon Cooper. Sheldon, yeah. He's in the Muppets movie. Why can't we think of this? Oh, wait. Big Bang Theory. Oh, my mom loves this show.
Starting point is 00:24:13 The Big Bang Theory. Blossoms in it for God knows. I tried to watch it once because my mom was like, this show is so funny. You know what? I know my theory on this. It's what regular people
Starting point is 00:24:22 think nerds are like. Okay? So regular people think that's what nerds are like, and they watch it and go, oh, look at the nerds. But in actuality, I suspect the IT crowd, which is like a British show, which I've seen a few episodes and really dug, I think that's more of what nerds are like.
Starting point is 00:24:36 But I don't... I can prove this show's not funny. It's not funny. Right now I can prove it. Tell me. Listen to it without... This is it without a soundtrack, a laugh track. Some what?
Starting point is 00:24:44 Oh, yes, some sexual intercourse. I'll take the bullet. This is it without a soundtrack. A laugh track. Nothing. I'm angry. I hate that show. Sure why not Sheldon Nothing Yeah horrible I'm angry You know what I hate that show No I tried I could not even make it Through ten minutes
Starting point is 00:25:10 And my mom She's like Oh it's so funny It's so hilarious I was angry at her I could not make it Through ten minutes It was awful
Starting point is 00:25:17 Nothing I don't know But the theme song Is pretty good It's like a flaky It's got no value at all You know where I bought The yellow tape from the Barenaked Ladies? I bought it at Sam the Wrecking.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Oh, the one with the sandwich on it? Yeah. I have that too. I have two copies of that. What was that one called? It was called the yellow tape. It is actually called the yellow tape. And it had a Public Enemy cover, Fight the Power.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Fight the Power was on it? Yeah. That was a great version. Yoko Ono? Y Fight the Power was on it? Yeah. Yeah. That was a great version. Yoko Ono? Yoko Ono was on it. It had Brian Wilson on it. It had,
Starting point is 00:25:50 if I had a million dollars on it, it had this. Somebody get in touch with the Barenaked Ladies. They've got to come in. Steven Page? You can probably get him on the show.
Starting point is 00:25:56 He'll come in. What is he? He's not there with the band anymore. It breaks my heart though, the Barenaked Ladies now. I find it really hard to watch. Oh, without Steven Page.
Starting point is 00:26:03 I actually find it hurts. It's not the Barenaked Ladies anymore. It's not. And to watch. Oh, without Stephen Page. I actually find it, it hurts. It's not the Barenaked Ladies anymore. It's not. And I know they call themselves that and I know they can because of what happened,
Starting point is 00:26:10 but to me, it's just not. Because we were there, this is where it all happened. I think of all the Barenaked Ladies concerts I saw. It's him.
Starting point is 00:26:20 I mean, he's half of it. He is. He's the soul of it. He has a totally new nose. Stephen Page has a totally new nose. You've got to see this, man. Oh, from the cocaine?
Starting point is 00:26:28 I don't know. That's a new nose. It's very interesting. Oh, my gosh. He's certainly had... Yeah. Well, he took his glasses off. What did you say, King?
Starting point is 00:26:37 Nah, just kidding. Just kidding. No, I know, buddy. It was funny what you did. That was a funny ha-ha. I just... I loved them. To me, I find it sad.
Starting point is 00:26:44 I find it sad to see them. Yeah, I mean, I don't like them anymore to be honest. They're not the same kind of cool, fun band.
Starting point is 00:26:51 And from one great Toronto band to another, this is Rosie and Gray. I'm Toronto Mike and this has been me, Rosie,
Starting point is 00:27:02 and Mike Wixon. Thanks for spending time with us, everyone. Thank you for listening.
