Season 4 Prolog.
My
KERRY
My arm was killing me.
My arm was killing me.
me. I didn't have time to wrap it, but I held the wound as I drove.
I had to hurry and get home. Time was short. Wouldn't take long before they find Rowan
and check the security footage. I felt bad, but I had to do it, right? He caught me stealing
a passing code, which I committed in memory and wouldn't let me leave. If only I went sooner,
I could have avoided him, and he could have avoided me.
I didn't want to do it, but I had to.
What the hell are you doing?
Have you got fucking crazy?
He knocked me off and went for his radio.
No!
I can't let you do that.
You asshole!
I had to hurry before more security showed.
Get off!
He knocked me into the corner of the room.
I quickly got to my feet and rushed him again, knocking the radio away.
I had no idea what I would do.
Maybe I could tie him up, or...
But then he reached for his gun.
Was he serious?
Shit!
I knocked the gun from his hand just in time.
We both struggled for it, crawled for it.
I reached for it, but...
But he rolled on top of me.
I brought up a knee, getting him in the groin.
Which gave me just enough time to crawl that extra foot, grab the gun, turn, and...
Shit!
God damn it, Jim.
Pay attention.
I couldn't help it, though.
That last look of horror on Rowan's face as I shot him?
Not just horror.
But shock. I didn't want to do it. He made me. He pulled the gun first.
But all I could think was this poor, friendly security guard who had a stable overnight job,
an ex-wife, German Shepherd, and played poker with his other security guard friends on the weekend.
It was gone. I remembered the pain hitting me instantly.
Then I saw the pocket knife, unclipped and in his hands, mere seconds after I fired.
and even though I hated what I'd done, even apologizing at the time,
I should have fired again right then,
because he made one last effort, which for me was costly.
You ass, oh.
I'm sorry, but I had to.
That's when he came down with his small knife.
I tried to dodge, but he got me in my arm, side, and hand.
I hit him with the butt of the gun, and pulled out from under him.
Son of a bitch.
Blood poured from my wounds, especially my arm where the cut was deep.
I slowly got to my feet stumbling a bit.
Rowan was on his back now, staring at the ceiling, taking very slow breaths.
I hope.
Whatever you plan to do is worth it.
It is.
They'll come for you.
I know.
It only took a few moments for the life to drain from his face.
And when it did, I left.
What he said was true, they would come for me, but nevertheless, I put things in motion.
This was important. I wouldn't do it otherwise, because I was about to give up everything.
Selina! Selina!
I was feeling weak.
the fight and the stabbing my entire body ached. I stumbled inside. Tim? Oh my god. I'm fine. I turned
away from her trying to hide my injuries. What happened? I can't tell you. Why? Because the less you know
the better. This isn't about your work, is it? Stop. Is this about the new facility? Salina, seriously.
Well, at least tell me what's this about your dreams. Does this have to do with any of that?
I waved her off.
Is Mike in his room?
Should be.
She was coming around trying to see my injuries.
What the hell happened?
There's no time.
There's no time.
I felt my consciousness slipping, but I couldn't let that happen.
I still had a long drive ahead.
I made my way through the hall as Selena went to Mike's room.
But I stumbled again and fell just before our large leather recliner.
I looked down at the pool of blood now forming on the mustard ruff.
I was fighting the urge to close my eyes.
One, because I didn't want to fall asleep.
And two, because I was worried that I would see things again.
Instead, I continued to stare at the blood on the floor.
I hope Mike didn't see me like this.
Jim?
What is it?
He's in bed.
Can I take a look at it?
I'm fine. I'm fine.
You're hurt.
I'm fine, Selena.
Is that why you're bleeding all over my rug?
Well, get me a towel then.
I forced myself up over to the record player.
Only a few vinals were sitting on the shelf below, and it looked like all her stuff.
Where are my records?
What?
My records!
My...
Shit!
What was that noise?
Jim?
I'm fine.
I'm fine.
You're not fine.
Look at you.
Look at your arm.
And your face.
What happened?
You can't even stand.
No, we have to go to the hospital.
No!
I'm calling an ambulance.
Don't you dare.
Oh!
Selina!
Selina!
Just then I saw Mike slowly, cautiously, walking into the room.
Dad?
Damn it. I didn't want him to see me like this.
Mike, you're supposed to be in bed, buddy.
You and Mom were yelling.
Never mind. Go back to bed, son.
Dad. Are you her?
I'm gonna be okay.
Where's your mom?
She's on the phone.
Damn it.
You want that towel?
No, no.
I need you to...
To go back to bed, Mike.
Oh shit. It was happening.
Dad, look at the lights.
I know. I see them.
Bed, Mike. Go to bed.
Okay.
Now, son.
on, now.
I hated that he saw me like this.
This couldn't be his last memory of me,
but I couldn't focus on that right now.
And I'd be back, right?
I pushed myself up.
I walked past the kitchen where Selena was on the phone.
Yes, please hurry.
Shit, she was calling an ambulance.
I couldn't stay here.
I had to go.
Our wreckers were most likely in the garage.
Time to get them and get out.
Yep, on the corner shelf under a sheet.
There they were.
I didn't need them all, but I also didn't have time to go through them.
Using my good arm, I picked up the crate on the left.
I could tell this was the older stuff.
Then I hit the garage door opener.
I crouched under the door before it fully opened.
I wanted to say by to Selina and Mike, but every second that passed was a second wasted.
I couldn't stop, and I couldn't chance telling her anything.
Plus, saying goodbye for permanent, final, and I didn't like that.
While I wanted to look back, I knew it was best if I didn't.
A tear slowly stood down my bruised cheek.
I'll be back.
This isn't goodbye.
I'll be back.
An hour, and a quick stop for Red Bull and gas later, I made it.
My hope was that they didn't know what my plans were.
I tried to leave enough clues and make it appear I was going to the police with all the information.
But in all actuality, I had another plan up my bloody sleeve, a real.
really, really dumb one.
The lights above me flickered as I ran down the long hallway
all the way to the survey room, which was beside the housing.
There was a skeleton crew on the weekends,
so this was my best chance.
I made it to the survey room door
right beside the large steel door for housing.
I'm here, big fella.
The thing behind the door was a good 10 feet tall and in anguish.
That's why I needed to calm him first.
I was taking a big gamble.
I know.
It's time to get you out.
I went to the keypad to the right of the survey room door,
set down the one record I brought in,
and slid the yellow key card through the card reader.
What?
It was reading, but it wasn't opening.
I started to fill the creature's anguish, now mixed with anger.
I still tried the three number five digit code, but nothing.
Oh, shit.
That's when I realized.
Holt!
I looked to my left, two guards, guns drawn.
I still had Rowan's gun on me, but...
Drop the card. Put your hands up.
Two more guards were on my right.
I could also hear footsteps coming up from behind.
There was no way I was going to shoot my way out of this.
I turned around to see more guards walking up.
They had a whole team waiting?
Hands up!
I dropped the key card and raised my hands as the guards approached me from all three sides.
Pat him down and cuff him
Dumb move, Jim
You brought some music with you
But I didn't answer
Brought a gun too
They removed the handgun from my waistband
Then pull my hands down and behind my back
Cuffing me
Damn it
I knew all these guards
Fallen, Jackie, Ivan, Nicky, Reese
All of them
And while none of them look to be
happy with some doing me, I knew they wouldn't stop.
How'd you know?
Caldway's been keeping taps for a while.
You know they can't let anything happen to the creature now.
They need it, Jim.
They're killing it.
That's not true.
You don't understand it.
Not like I do.
Jim, I know you feel like you have a special bond with the thing.
But what you did here and back in Livermore was foolish.
Really, really foolish.
So what happens to me now?
That's for Caldway to decide. Come on, let's get him out of here.
