A young recruit arrives in Vietnam and discovers that his lieutenant is a deranged lunatic who is either going to get him in his entire unit killed or court-martialed. This young recruit and his squad decide that the only way they're going to get out of Vietnam alive is to murder their lieutenant. This is a wild story. It's intense, it's thrilling, and it has incredible performances, sound design, and music, and even if you don't know or care at all about Vietnam, it's a flat-out great thriller. Imagine saving Private Ryan if all the guys on the squad decided they needed to murder Private Ryan to get out of the war.
