Trading Secrets - 279. Harry’s Light: The Power of Humanity Behind a Viral Detroit Lions Moment

Episode Date: February 16, 2026

This week, Jason is joined by two of the most inspiring Detroit Lions fans you’ll ever meet — Harry and Dan — in a special on-the-field episode recorded inside Ford Field after the Lions surpri...sed Harry with an unforgettable day.Jason shares how a spontaneous Super Bowl concourse moment with Harry and Dan went viral for one simple reason: pure joy. But the story quickly became bigger — Harry’s family reached out to reveal he’s currently battling inoperable cancer, undergoing chemo to extend time, with no guarantee he’ll make it to next season. What followed was a wave of support that reached the Detroit Lions, leading to a private tour, special messages, and a reminder of what can happen when the internet actually rallies around something good.Harry opens up about being overwhelmed by the attention, and why his approach to life has always been rooted in finding the good in every day, staying positive through the hard moments, and treating people with kindness and respect. Dan reflects on what makes Harry so loved — that he makes every interaction about the other person, and genuinely wants everyone around him to have a great day.Harry also talks about his career in the glass business and the rare kind of loyalty you almost never hear about anymore: after his diagnosis, his employer at Weather Guard Window Company gave him a written promise that he’d always have a job there, supporting him fully through treatment and time off when needed.Jason and David wrap with a powerful takeaway: the “power of humanity” is real — and Harry’s light is proof that a single moment of kindness can ripple into thousands of people reconnecting with gratitude, perspective, and the people they love.Harry and Dan reveal all this and more in another episode you can’t afford to miss!Trading Secrets Steals & Deals!Monarch:Monarch isn’t your average personal finance app. Unlike most other personal finance apps, Monarch is built to make you proactive, not just reactive. Starting point is 00:00:00 The difference between an emergency and non-emergency situation can sometimes be hard to spot. An emergency, like breaking a hip, requires a call to 911. But if a friend is having a mental health breakdown, call 2-1-1. If a water main breaks, contact 311. And for an incident like a past break-in, dial the non-emergency line. The right call gets you the right help. Learn more at Toronto.ca. slash make the right call. A message from the city of Toronto.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Access Storage presents Team Canada snowboarder Mark McMorris. It's a huge honor to call myself an Olympic medalist and an even bigger honor to be a three-time Olympic medalist to do those all under the Maple Leaf is incredibly special and I'm eternally grateful. Thank you, Canada, for your continued support. It's a huge honor to represent our country. Keep cheering. Let's go Canada. Access Storage. official storage partner of Team Canada. Back to another episode of Trading Secrets. I'm your host, Jason Tardick. We got David Argo in with us right now.
Starting point is 00:01:21 This is the pre-trading segment. Before we open up the market, of course the market is our guest. I got David and I here. There's a little something different right now. David and I are live. It's almost like a studio now. We got lights on. We got a legit recording.
Starting point is 00:01:36 This might even be up on social media before we ring in our guest. David, just in general. This is very different. We usually don't have the videos on when we do this. Very different. I think I like it. I'm not in love with it right now, and that's personal reasons.
Starting point is 00:01:50 I like where it's going to. We got blank background. Something's got to change. It looks like we're both trapped in someone's basement right now, and I am trapped in my own basement. So that's going for us. But other than that, I think we're moving in the right direction here.
Starting point is 00:02:03 What personal reasons? Talk to me. Trade the scene. Well, I'm looking at myself. And I have etched in my head last year's JTA. And when I saw last year's JTA come out and the close come out, I said, you know what?
Starting point is 00:02:13 I'm going to, I need to improve myself, Jason. And I did improve myself from that day on. And then the holiday season hit and baby number two came. And I'm just, I'm trying to find the right angle to maybe hide the double chin, the extra layer here, the extra, you know, couple pounds that I've gathered. So I'm going to use this if we're going to do this as motivation to really kick my ass into gear.
Starting point is 00:02:33 But I need the accountability. I need the people out there. I'll tell you what, January I was dialed. I mean, absolutely dialed, ripped to a shred. February, pure disaster. I think in the last 48 hours, I've had, I don't know, seven drinks. I've had three cookies, two Sundays. I've had four plates of pasta, chicken parm. I mean, it's been just, I mean, I've been just, I have Sour Patch kids today. I'm five falling off.
Starting point is 00:02:57 My family has been visiting from Vancouver for two weeks, and they are amazing chefs, but I've been eating the same thing. I'm eating sour food. Who's the chef? Mom, dad, Ash. Both. Mom's more homes. And dad are both chefs? Mom's more home style chef. Dad's more like, I'm going to take anything that's in the pantry, like top chef style or chop style and make like a five-star cuisine. You ever see the videos where people go to McDonald's and they get like a Big Mac and
Starting point is 00:03:24 then they make like an unbelievable like actual dinner from the Big Mac mail? You ever see that? That would be him. Wow. Okay. Yeah. So I'm trending down, but I'm going to start trending up. But with my family here with the hairy episodes, which we're going to.
Starting point is 00:03:39 get into. Yeah. God is it. By the way, that's the first time we, anyone's ever said it right there. It's it. David Arndwin,
Starting point is 00:03:47 bringing it out. Well, I'm excited. I'm pumped. I'm going to cry at some point where there'd be intro or recap today because when you get old, my birthday is tomorrow. My 39th birthday is tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:03:59 My family just visited for two weeks. They just left today. And we've talked on this podcast about how when you get old and you don't live with your parents, when you see them, that could be number one of 12. And now I only have 11 times where I really get to see them. And then we make the emergency announcement to go with the Harry episode, which we'll get into Harry and his story and how amazing it is.
Starting point is 00:04:24 And I'm so glad we're making this announcement change and this podcast guest change. Because, man, for me personally, it's hitting home hard right now. So I'm excited for the people just to hear the genuine amount of, love that Harry brings to the world. I love it. It's a great transition. And we'll ring in the bell here with Harry and Dan here shortly. But, you know, the quick substitute came in because when we were doing the tour, the private stadium tour that the Detroit Lions put on, which was just amazing. We had like 10, 15 minutes. The guys that were doing some video work, I said, do you guys have mics? Like, these guys are amazing. I just do like 10, 15 minutes of interviewing with them.
Starting point is 00:05:04 They're like, absolutely. Harry and Dan were like, that would be an honor. So we got Harry and Dan on the ones and twos. We did this interview in the Detroit Lions field. We were on the field, on the benches doing this interview. And for anybody that hasn't seen on my social media, the quick, quick summary is that Catherine and I were at the Super Bowl. We're going to grab a drink and we saw these two older gentlemen just chopping it up, laughing, hitting each other elbow to elbow. Like, that's amazing. Well, they had Detroit Lions jersey's on. And Catherine's from Detroit. So she went over and started saying hello to them and they just were the most jolly, nicest guys in the world. So I took my phone out. I started videotaping it and I was just like,
Starting point is 00:05:45 you know, with the Super Bowl. There's so much bullshit and like, you know, so much commentary on like all the stuff and this and that and the halftime show. It's like, can we just like enjoy something for once? Like, is there anything we can all just be happy with? And like this was a moment that felt like that. And I put it up there. I got both Catherine and I got reached out. by Harry's family saying, wow, I can't believe you met Harry and Dan. Harry has inoperable cancer. He's doing chemo now to strictly see how long he'll be able to make it, knowing that it will not be cured.
Starting point is 00:06:21 And they don't know that he'll make it to next year's Super Bowl, let alone especially a Detroit Lions Super Bowl. So Dan said to Harry, you know, we're going. And so we heard this story, put it back. another story on social media, hey, can we tag the Detroit Lions? Twenty-five thousand people have reached out, tagging the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Lions did something really special, which was a whole private tour. And one last shout-out I want to give is when Evan and I were on my book tour in 2022 in Detroit, we did a stop there, and we had a dinner at a steakhouse called
Starting point is 00:06:54 Prime and Proper. And we met the management team there. That was back in 2022. Well, Prime and Proper saw to Detroit Lions what they did for Harry and Dan. They really did. reached out to Evan and I and said, we want to host everyone for dinner. And so Harry, his wife, Dan, his wife, their cousin, all of Catherine's family. We had the best dinner at prime and proper. These people, David, are amazing. And it's such a reminder that in times of darkness, someone like that can even find and be the brightest light, not only for himself, but everyone around it. And you think about, I know you and I are culprits of this, right? Like there are those days we stub our tone and we act like it's the end of the world. Oh, yeah. Be someone like Harry going through what he's going through and still being able to be such a light to every single person around him, including himself. It's a wake up call for all this. I couldn't agree more. And I just love how two worlds truly come together.
Starting point is 00:07:49 We've talked a lot. We even talked last week about the Super Bowl about how you're going to parties or events or even the game. It doesn't even feel like people want to be there. They're just there for alternative reasons. And here you have these two guys who you have you and Catherine who's there. And because you're seeing a genuine interaction and in your sense, DNA, you bring out your phone and record it because it's genuine and it's a memory and it's really cool. And you didn't plan for it to go anywhere. And then you have two guys who you said
Starting point is 00:08:14 are chopping it up who probably didn't bring out their phones once the entire game. They may have been brought up their phones the entire day, Jason. They didn't know anything about social media. They're like, we don't know what social media is. Those two guys stumbling around the concourse, getting a couple beers, couple bruskeys, couple hot dogs, talking about how the lines will never get there, just enjoying life. you know when good things happen to good people who don't expect it, it makes it that much better. And I think that's a great cue up to this episode is, you know, hearing the interview with him, man, this guy is the best. So it's an amazing thing you did.
Starting point is 00:08:51 I'm sure you feel amazing to be able to use your platform to provide opportunities like this. But well done. It was awesome. We'll talk more about that. Like the whole platform discussion, I think we also have a shorter episode here with Harry and Dan, guys. it's only like 10, 15 minutes. We didn't have much time to get into things, but we've got into what matters.
Starting point is 00:09:09 So in the recap, David, we're going to talk about some of the things that are trending right now. We've got the Olympics or some reality TV. AI is now a real job and income disruptor. We'll talk about that, maybe interest rates, consumer spending's pulling back a little bit. How much did people spend on Valentine's Day?
Starting point is 00:09:24 What's going on with the markets? All the things. We'll talk about life. We'll probably have about 20, 30 minutes. So without further ado, we're going to ring in the bell. Harry and David, make sure to give us five stars. Let us know your biggest takeaway from this episode. So David, anything before we're ringing in with them?
Starting point is 00:09:37 No, just put 10 minutes, guys. Whatever you're doing, put it down, walk in, shed a tear. Call your mom, call your dad, call your brother, tell them you love them. Perfectly said. Let's ring in the bell with the two, Harry and Dad. Welcome back to another episode of Trading Secrets. This is a very special edition. We are at Fort Field in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:09:57 We got Harry here. We got Dan here. The welcome sign here, you can see it right there. Welcome to Ford Field with Harry. What a special moment. Talk to people just explain what's going on today and what it's meant to you. Well, it's been great, I'll tell you. I'm not used to any attention.
Starting point is 00:10:14 And this has been overwhelming as far as what you and Catherine, and it's just, I'm overwhelmed. It's been a wonderful day. And I don't know what to say. I never thought I'd experience anything like this in my life. I mean it. And it's just been still trying to get my hat around it. Everything is happening so quickly as far as, being here and
Starting point is 00:10:36 understanding even what your podcast and how it's facilitated and move things forward to this point we are right now and it's been great. I want to thank you. And I were talking about the field and I think one of the things is that your energy is so magnetizing,
Starting point is 00:10:51 it's infectious. Like the reason the video was connecting with so many people is because of like the energy that you Well, thank you. Thank you so much and I don't see that. But thank you though. You're very kind and wonderful and yeah. And I'm humbled. I really am humbled by what's happening.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Do you have, like, I think there's a lot of people right now that either in work or professional or maybe the personal lives are struggling a little bit, maybe even mentally, they're exhausted or they go through life with maybe an attitude a little bit different than yours. It's just a little bit glass, half empty as opposed to glass half full. Do you have any advice for them back home? There's so much good in a day in any given day. You've got to recognize it and take the best out of that day. And any negativity or problems you might have, try and put it behind you and look at what's in front of you that's positive.
Starting point is 00:11:39 And it's just, I love life and I'm lucky that I try and enjoy the best of it. Nothing's perfect. Each day is not perfect. Neither is yours, I'm sure. But gosh, darnie, you think about, I'll bless you with friends and family. And it's just, it's great. I am so lucky. I can't stand it.
Starting point is 00:11:58 I mean it. And we saw the clip by Channel 7, all your family's there. it's clearly you've had that impact on your family. And Dan, clearly he's had it on you as well. I mean, what are some things that you've learned through Harry and how he experienced life that you'd want to make sure people knew or thought about as they go through their daysday? Everybody loves Harry.
Starting point is 00:12:17 And he treats everybody with respect and love, and he wants them to have a great day. And it's evident by the Detroit people and Detroit lions, but also now that we had the chance to be in San Francisco, that now the town of San Francisco, the people of San Francisco now love Harry. Oh, that's very kind. He does his attitude and the way he treats people.
Starting point is 00:12:38 No matter what levels they're at, he wants them to have a great day. And there's a lot of love and he shows that. And it's all about the other person and not about Harry. I love it. Everything you do, and I feel like you're just touching people. You're inspiring them. We do talk some career stuff on this podcast. So tell us professionally, what have you done for work for your life?
Starting point is 00:12:56 What's your career looked like? I've been in the glass business most of my days. and I had a very small little company, and I had an opportunity several years ago. Running a small business is not easy, and either you're worried about getting the work done or not having enough. And so an opportunity arose for me
Starting point is 00:13:17 to go to work for a local company. They're great company. I'll put a plug-in for them, Weatherguard Window Company. And they invited me to come to work for them, and I worked for them for them for a day. I said, well, I won't charge you nothing. I said, I'll just come to work in a work for them.
Starting point is 00:13:30 work for you and see what the job is. I fell in love right away. That's awesome. I got to share this with you. Yeah. Because I'm so happy for them and whatnot. But when I first had cancer, I had a, you know, go under the knife. And the owner, one of, there's two owners, two sons. And he took me into his office. He had a contract written up. He goes, here. He goes, I'm going to sign this. He goes, no matter how long it takes you to get healthy, he goes, you got a job here and I'll make certain of it. And at this particular point where I'm at. They don't question a thing. If I can't work, you just call in.
Starting point is 00:14:08 We'll cancel the jobs that you have. And you come back when you can. These are the people I work for, which makes my life even so much happier. And you're still working now. Yes, I'm still working. And I love it. I love it.
Starting point is 00:14:21 I'm so gosh darn lucky. I swear to God, I can't even understand it. I don't know why I deserve all this. But it's crazy. in the winter, I feel this more than ever, but especially with the dogs, even after cleaning all the time, my house still feels a little dust heavy. And so I now have in my bedroom an air doctor. An air doctor helps with a lot of things. Fewer odors, reduced allergy symptoms, better sleep, and just extra protection and peace of mind. So air doctor's powerful three-stage filtration
Starting point is 00:14:51 captures extremely small particles, about 100 times smaller than what a typical air purifier will actually be able to remove. It also has this whisper quiet operation. So it's not loud like some of those other filtration systems. And it has this auto mode feature where ensures optimal air 24-7. I could tell you on mine, it will like, it grades it. Like it will tell you like your air is green. The circle around it will give it a percentage and it will show you you're in good space. Ninety-eight percent of air doctors customers say their homes air feels cleaner and safer and healthier. Now, Now, here's what I got to tell you. A-I-R-D-O-C-T-O-R-P-R-O-D-R-P-R-O-D-R-O-R-P-R-O-R-R-R-R-E. When all this blew up, right, the reach-out is just amazing. But when we were trying to figure out what day we would come here to the Lionsfield, Harry worried more about working and what time he could get off versus let's us go. And it was his kids and his wife that's, said, Harry, you can take a day off, but that's his work at this.
Starting point is 00:16:24 So it goes in both sides, an ownership and a worker like Harry that's very loyal and dedicated to what he does and to the people not to let him down. I love it. I think that's for anyone that hasn't seen the story yet, part of this story is you're inspired by Harry and you're like, I don't want to let him down. Tell him a little bit about what you're thinking with the Super Bowl things. So at his house, he had a family get together. And Harry looked at me and he said, hey, Brinks, what are we going to do for the Super Bowl?
Starting point is 00:16:55 We're going to have it over here. What are we going to do? And I said, Harry, we're going to go. You and I are going to go. And there's no ifs, or buts, we're going to get out there and we're going to go and we're going to enjoy ourselves and have a great time. And he fought it for a little bit, not too long. And he said, okay, let's go. And he went in and grabbed his Barry Sanders jersey and said, we're going to wear Detroit stuff there.
Starting point is 00:17:16 We're going to represent Detroit. I love Detroit. I loved the lions, and then it was from there. And you guys have just been unbelievable, you know, to get the message out because it's about people praying for Harry. He's recovering as hell. Well, Daniel, and I'll tell you this, more to the story. When he first came and approached about going,
Starting point is 00:17:38 I thought he was just blowing smoke. I go, yeah, let's go. You know what I mean? Ha, ha, ha. And then as it became more and more serious, it's like, no. You know, it's hard to accept lavish gifts. He's not a rich man. He's not, you know, and for him to offer that up, to offer that up,
Starting point is 00:18:01 it was, it was overwhelmingly wonderful and kind. It was beautiful, man. And I thank you, brother. I thank you. I love you. You guys have such a special bond, such a special friendship, it's infectious. Why don't we wrap with this? When you think about everything that you've learned in life, all the lessons you've learned,
Starting point is 00:18:22 and when you look back at everything you've accomplished and all the people you've touched, what is like the biggest piece of advice, biggest lesson that you've learned on your way. And we'll go with both you. So whoever has it top of mind first. I think to love others because it's definitely the way this has grown in the reach out is there's some really great people in this world. You've got to reach out to others. But I think you've got to do for others. You've got to support others and you've got to be kind.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Oh, boy. That's a big thing. Yeah. Because then it comes back to you. You've got to be respectful and kind and do what you can. We're on this earth one time. And whatever you can do, you need to do it because there may not be tomorrow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Well said. How about you, Harry, what do you leave us with? I think to be kind and thoughtful, when you approach people, you don't know. If you can come up with it, just be positive. That can open doors you don't even know are available. And you guys are a prime example of that. Boy, it's like fertilizer. If you're kind and whatnot like that, things are going to grow from that.
Starting point is 00:19:29 And so, yeah, yeah, that's the essence of, I think, to behave and be fair. And don't cheat people and don't be taking advantage of folks. It'll catch up to you. But. Yeah, for me, I always like to take my trade secret. My trade secret I learn from you. the power of humanity is unmatched. Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:19:52 I think the power of humanity is just unmatched. And I think to kind of connect with that, you have to, at the core, be able to see positivity of life. You think about day-to-day, Daniel and I were talking, like, how many things, you stubbed your toe, right? You miss a meeting. Someone yells at you.
Starting point is 00:20:09 And it could ruin your day. And I think what you've done is you've showed us is that the power of light, the power of class half-full, and the power that can connect so many people such a short period of time and I feel like now more than ever we can all use it. So yeah, keep spreading the light and hopefully this light will spread to someone that's watching.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Kindness be gates kindness. It's just, it just keeps rolling forward. It's wonderful. It's wonderful and we are all rooting for you. So thank you so. What a special day. Thank you. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:20:38 I need to hug you, man. We love you guys. No, thank you. We appreciate you. Thank you. The Detroit lines. Yes, sir. You can't be.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Ding, ding, ding, ding. We are closing in the bell. A little bit of a longer recap, a lot to touch on. We got to first start with Harry and Dan. I want to give another shout out to the Detroit Lions. And I want to give another shout out to prime in proper for hosting us for dinner. Such an amazing dinner. You know, David, meeting Harry, meeting Dan, meeting their wives. It's just not a coincidence at like good energy and good people, find good people. and I gave a toast at the dinner. Nothing planned, nothing rehearsed, just spoke from the heart. And one of the things I said was, you know, six days ago, half this table, I didn't know one of you.
Starting point is 00:21:28 The other half this table, you know, not too long ago, I didn't know any of you. And we go back a year from today, there's not one person here in this building that I know. And when I think about relationships and really getting to know someone and building, and building it with someone. It's just not built on timing. It's built on connection. Like six days, I feel like we're family. And you think about how many people you've known for one years, five years,
Starting point is 00:21:56 10 years, 20 years, and how you're like, yeah, I know, acquaintance, whatever. But like to be able to connect with someone like this by just happenstance, that we're walked by them at the Super Bowl. And then all this happens. I mean, I can keep, David, I could bore you with how many people have been in my DMs trying to do something for Harry. Like Jared Goff and his wife reaching out to be like, hey, what can we do? I mean, the list is endless.
Starting point is 00:22:22 But it's really a beautiful story. I think one that can touch a lot of people and hopefully one that touched you too. Yeah, I mean, it touched me before we even hit record because my dad, who I mentioned in the intro was here. And he goes, who are you guys recapping tonight? Who are you recording? Who's the guest? I was like, actually, we decided to switch it.
Starting point is 00:22:40 And I gave him the quick elevator speech of who it was. and my dad was crying. He was like, he was like, that's a great idea. And I was just like, I walked downstairs to record and I'm like, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Like, very rarely does he ask me and very rarely do I get to see him these days anymore, but like for him to have that gender and reaction, he's like, that's really special that you guys would do that, that you guys would prioritize his story and his message. And I was like, you're right.
Starting point is 00:23:04 100%. You're right. And, you know, just to build off what you said a little bit too, like, we're almost entering a job. generation and a need for like all the people that we consider we have relationships with to not
Starting point is 00:23:17 be like, oh yeah, we're close. We don't really talk anymore. But like, you know, when we see each other, we just pick up where we left off. It's like we kind of need to start connecting more. We kind of need to check in on each other more. We kind of need to be there for. And as they said, like do for others more. And that's kind of a culmination of what you guys were able to do. And Harry's obviously life work to be able to give off the energy, the radiation to make Catherine want to go over there, to have you want to pull out your phone. Really, really beautiful in that 10 minutes to see all the things that you were talking about from your experience with them. Right now, credit card balances are at all time highs. Well, especially like in a world that we're living in where like by the second, David, I mean, by the living second, which is a topic we'll talk about on this recap, AI is moving at a speed that's just, it's really hard to comprehend. I mean, Evan and I were sharing a podcast that we listened to recently about how with Claudebot, there's a new AI. Well, it's a part of Claude, right? But with OpenClaw and Claude co-work. you can actually like start to build an employee like a new identity. So like you build this employee, you open a Gmail for them, you connect them to your CRM, you can connect them to your social media and you could start inputting exactly what to do.
Starting point is 00:25:57 And then you can input the report will they give you timestamps of every single thing they did for that day. You can integrate them into your g-mails. Like it's getting crazy, the speed at which AI is moving. And that's a subject we could hold for a second. but everything's becoming a little bit robotic. And when you have a moment like this, where you could just connect with a person eye-to-eye,
Starting point is 00:26:18 someone you never knew, and then learn more about them and their insight and their job and how they approach life. And you heard about his story with his employer. Like you have a contract for life as long as you want to work here. Man, is it refreshing in a time like today where everything is becoming what feels like so emotionless and so robotic?
Starting point is 00:26:39 Yeah. all I, to sum it up, like the hug that they had, Harry and Dan to each other who obviously went through, I've been through so much in life together. The hug and the thank you that they did while you were recording, you could feel the emotions in that. It's just like, man, how easy is it to say thank you to someone in principle, but how hard do we make it sometimes? We just make it so hard, whether it's a prideful thing or a vulnerability thing. Like, it's crazy. Like, Jason, thank you for letting me be part of this podcast for five years. Like that, like it means a lot to be able to do this.
Starting point is 00:27:14 And it's grown our relationship so much because of it. And I maybe don't say thank you enough because there's a million, truly a million other people in the world who would get the opportunity to do what I do. But I truly value it. And thank you for that, like things like that. Like, and I mean that. And thank you for always being there for me. Like when I was down and out, I think about my, on one hand,
Starting point is 00:27:34 I can count to people that were always there for me when I was down and out. and you are always there, always, always, always. And you always say, like, never forget the people that were there if you're at your weakest point. You're always that person. And we don't do that enough. No, we don't. And we don't do it enough with each other.
Starting point is 00:27:49 And we don't do enough with a lot of people in our life. And, you know, another quote that I took from Harry in this, he goes, you know, there's so much good in any given day. You just need to focus on that. And I just, that was a really, really powerful takeaway. Because he's right. You just said in the intro. Sometimes we stub our toe and ended up like we broke her leg
Starting point is 00:28:04 or like the world's ending. Like, no one's better at that to me. Johnny Drama himself. So I'm, you know, I just love being able to take a step into people like this world because impacting people positively is really what your life should be all about. And it goes to, we talked about it a couple of recaps ago, but that one image, and I shared it on my social media of the dad that's on the benchpark thinking about like a money, a plane, travel and work. And he's next to his son. And he's all stressed out. And his son is just happy. And in his son's think bubble, all it is is him, the bench, and his dad.
Starting point is 00:28:39 And it's like, we just don't do enough of it. And the impact that has on every area of life, we got to do more of it. So everyone's listening to this, like you said, David, like go call the people you love. Go tell them you love them. Maybe pick one person today that you haven't maybe shown appreciation for, but you do appreciate them, but you're just so caught up in the day to day and just stop for a second and just tell them why you appreciate them. That light is contagious.
Starting point is 00:29:03 I think this is a small example of being a bright light shines, and it shines on one person, and then it can shine on 25,000 people. And then those lights can be shining in a Detroit Lions Stadium where it says, Welcome to Ford Field Harry. And there's a video from Sam Laporte on Barry Sanders. It's contagious. It keeps going. It keeps going.
Starting point is 00:29:23 And, you know, it's not, I don't know if by next time this year, Harry will be around. And the way he communicates and the way he just interacts with people, fuck, you would never, ever know that. Yeah. He deserved the moment. Like you said, he deserved the moment because, you know, the reality is if and when he's not here, the fact that someone will, like our listeners are loyal listeners.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Our listeners take things away. Our listeners, you know, whether they listen to you and I, which by, they never have to, some of them, you know, do have takeaways and their guests they always do. Like someone will. Harry will change someone. Harry will change and help a relationship. Harry will, Harry's impact will live far beyond just him being jolly old Harry with his brother-in-law, Dan, and his, you know, his daughters and in his small circle that he's built in Detroit. Shed light on that and maybe throw a life raft of people who need it sometimes in certain situation.
Starting point is 00:30:23 So that's, he's got three kids, I think seven grandkids. And to me, it's like this chapter of his life, it's probably not, it's probably been a tough one. But I think about like he's creating a legacy change in his family. Because his grandkids are seeing that while he's in the hardest time of his entire life, he just continues to bring kind, thoughtful, positive energy to people. And that will live on so much longer than, than Harry. It'll live on to his kids, to his grandkids. It'll live on in my life. And I think, you know, if all of us can think about, trying to find the best in us to bring it forward. My God, what a different world it would be out there, you know? 100%. Well, kudos to you. Kudos to Catherine. Kudos to the Detroit Lions. Like you said,
Starting point is 00:31:10 prime and proper. Kudos to them. Kudos to everybody involved in this. You know, I got a question for you, like engagement-wise on social media at the end of the day, social media is a job for you? Is this one of the highest engagement posts that you've ever had? And what does it say about, you know, about this being the content? And is it something that as you think about business, is you kind of turn the page into the business side of this podcast. Does it change the way that you view social media? I mean, as far as like what's been highly engaged content lately, obviously, you know, that, of course, was great and it led to greatness. But what's funny enough is like the highest engaged content in the last month, probably honestly, the last year of mine has been Catherine and I dancing, just having a good time
Starting point is 00:31:56 at the halftime show with a caption that said, let's go. I mean, that video has. So weird. 10 million views. That's so annoying. But I think to me what as far as just like when you talk about social media, when you look at, you know, I've been doing this now since 2018, it's a grind.
Starting point is 00:32:15 It gets old. It's a growing business. When you look at me like, what are the moments you remember in social media? It's this by a long shot. It's when, you know, I'm able to throw a story up there and we're able to raise,
Starting point is 00:32:25 you know, $20,000 for government employees when, the government was shut down for two months, right? It's when we're able to get eight dogs rescued from one post. Like to me, that's what it's all about. And the more I think about my content, the more of that's the stuff I want to be doing. Like, I've done this for eight, nine years. I've made a lot of money doing it. I want to continue to be able to, you know, earn a living off it. But I'm much more focused on like, how do you use this platform to do good? Because there's just so much shit on social media now. Like, so, think of how much time.
Starting point is 00:33:00 you scroll and you're just like shit, shit, shit, shit. And you leave scrolling feeling terrible. You don't feel good about it. And for me, it's like, how good does this feel? There's so many stories like that to share. So I don't know, I'd like to focus more on trying to do, use the platform to do things that are special and it has nothing to do with anything other than like, you fell ass backwards into this platform from going on a dating show and to be able to use it, right? to be able to touch a family like that and then learn from someone like that to me is the most special. So we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens.
Starting point is 00:33:35 But David, let's get into this. Yeah. Birthday's tomorrow. Valentine's Day was this past weekend. One thing I think people might find interesting as we transition into more trading secrets, some of the numbers. Americans are slashing Valentine's Day spending by 44% in 2026. This was before the weekend on a survey that was out there. average person plans to spend $87 on their partner, which is down $155 from last year.
Starting point is 00:34:02 That's according to coupon follow. How about you, David? Did you spend less this year than last year? Yeah, I spent way less. I did. I don't know if it was the two kid thing, but Ashley looked me dead in the eyes and says, you have to get me flowers. You can't get me anything else.
Starting point is 00:34:17 And I looked at her and I said, if you get me anything with sweets, like I don't need it anymore. So we had my parents in town, they babysat. We went out for dinner. We had a gift card that had been sitting, collecting dust for two years that we used for dinner. The gift card was $200. I wasn't trying. I swear to God, the bill came to $199 and $80 on a $200 gift card, sent a tip in cash. And that was it.
Starting point is 00:34:40 So I think by our grand total from just tip and flowers for me was flowers were like $45 and the tip was $80. And we had a nice dinner. It was great. A well-built wardrobe was about pieces that work together and hold up over time. That's what Quince does best, premium materials, thoughtful design, and everyday staples that feel easy to wear, easy to rely on, even as the weather shifts. Quince has the everyday essentials I love with quality that lasts, organic cotton sweaters, lighter jackets that will keep you warm and changing seasons. The list goes on, but here's the catch. Quince works directly with top factories and cuts out the middlemen, so you're not paying for the brand markup, just the quality of the clothing.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Plus, they only partner with factories that meet rigorous standards, with craftmanship, and ethical production. This is the thing that I absolutely love. I just got a coat from there that was so affordable. And if I compared that to what it would cost for me to go in a retail store with the same quality coat, it's astronomical. So here's what I'm going to tell you. Check it off for yourself.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Refresh your wardrobe with quince. Just go to quince.com slash trading secrets for free shipping on your order in 365 day returns. Now available in Canada, too. Starting point is 00:36:00 That's interesting. I hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day. Your birthday's here. What do you think? What are you looking the next year? Yeah. 40? What's a theme for the year?
Starting point is 00:36:11 Yeah, I don't know. And I always have a theme. And all I've been thinking about turning 39 is 40. And I didn't think I'd be this guy, but I am thinking about 40 a ton. And I'm not necessarily scared or, like, like anything, but the reason I'm thinking of 40 so much is my dad's 40th birthday party, I remember so vividly. I remember what he was wearing.
Starting point is 00:36:33 I remember what he was wearing. I remember how the night went, where he opened presents, how many people were there, what the house looked like that day. Vividly. And the fact that I'm now in that position and I have kids and my kids are younger than I was that day, but it's like I am old and that's okay. I don't necessarily feel old or look old, but I probably, felt exactly how my dad felt when he was 40. And just the visual perspective of like life is moving
Starting point is 00:37:01 really fucking fast is really all I'm thinking about for my 39th birthday. And it has nothing to do with the number and more of the moment. And I put myself in those shoes as 11 year old David and I'm like, okay, life is moving really fast. So that's what I'm feeling right now from my birthday. Tomorrow's 39. Life is moving fast. What would you say like at 39 years old? Like what What's your biggest fear in life? Oh, yeah, I'm not going to get too far into the weeds, but like I have a very, very, I actually talked to my sister about this late night this week. I have a fear of like dying and I have a fear of what happens after that big time.
Starting point is 00:37:40 Like, and I have faith. I want to really start investing back into my faith for the main reason of not having those moments where I live in fear of this and send myself in like a really like scary place. but that's really it. When you say that, you're saying like when you, when you die, which we all will, what your fear is,
Starting point is 00:38:02 is what happens after. Like not. Yeah. Like black, like black and ringing in my ears. And that's it for the eternity of life. Yeah. I've never,
Starting point is 00:38:18 that's like, maybe I'm crazy. I've never thought about that. Good. Because I tried to not. And when I do, And I want to believe and I have, I've gone to first commune and I've baptized, confirmed, like, all that. And I, and I have a belief. I just need to really reinvest it as an adult with kids now and like really double,
Starting point is 00:38:36 triple down on it because, yeah, that's really it. That's really it. So I don't have any other fears. I don't have financial fears. I don't have fears of my marriage. I don't have fears of being a father. I don't have fears of how I'm going to spend the next 45 years of my life, if I'm lucky enough to get that. Just whenever the finality is, like, I love being alive. I love living. I love relationships. I love learning.
Starting point is 00:39:05 I love listening. I love feeling joy and I love feeling sadness because it means I'm alive. So I think for me, like, that's the only fear that I have, period. Yeah, for me, it's like the, I always think about the fear of death a lot. But I don't think about the fear of death as in what happens to me after. I think about the fear of death of like what, like, the current life that, like, keeps going. You know, you think about, like, who you leave behind and how that keeps working and, like, you not being in there. Like, that's, that's, that's, like, I think that goes.
Starting point is 00:39:42 I have a fear of, like, dying before I have a kid. Like, like, I feel, like, not like, I want to be married. I want to have kids. I want to, like, have grandkids. like the fear of like not being able to you know live the life to see all that is what terrifies me i think though like the fact that there's mediums out there who like can speak to like people who have passed and like it's like i believe in that stuff i really do i have experiences with it where i believe in it i'm like okay this is this is i just need to really dive into it and just
Starting point is 00:40:14 you know stop having an insecurity behind it and just dive into it so maybe 39 of this the year i kick my faith back into gear. Okay. Carter's enrolling in a Catholic school pre-3K next September. So I got to dive in there with them. Okay. Dive in. Do what you got to do? 39 sounds like it's going to be a big one for you. Happy birthday David Ardoin.
Starting point is 00:40:38 Let's transition to something a little lighter. Yes, please. Yes. Can we please? Listen, it's been a bright episode. It's about a dark one. No. All right.
Starting point is 00:40:49 One of the most trending things right now, everywhere, the Olympics. I mean, you're seeing there's like the quad god, there's the cheating scandal, there's all kinds of stuff going on, there's the favorite food, apparently condom shortages. There's a lot of action in the Olympics. Are you watching it? What are you thinking? I'm locked in. We talked how I wasn't seeing anything and now I'm locked in.
Starting point is 00:41:11 There's nothing quite like having the Olympics on every day. And as someone who works in professional sports, I think it's the coolest thing of all time that the people who are watching competing, it's not like they're just like doing it up hobby. Like this is their entire lives. And they get once every four years. And it may seem like what we're watching curling. We're watching the biathlon.
Starting point is 00:41:34 They ski and they shoot targets. We're watching the luge. And it's like, yeah, we are. And these people have given their entire fucking life to this. And it's awesome. All right. Here's a little finance money question. It comes to the Olympics.
Starting point is 00:41:47 The number one country, okay? What countries pay different amounts for the athletes that get a gold, a silver, or a bronze. What do you think the number one amount a country is paying for a citizen that wins a gold medal at the Olympics? What is that amount? I want to say it's not a million, but I want to say it's got, I'm hoping it's like a gold medal in the country. I'm hoping it's like at least 250K. Singapore, 78,000 dollars. If you're a citizen of Singapore and you win a gold medal.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Coming in second place is Hong Kong, 767,000. Huge drop off in third place. Italy, 213,000, Poland, 211,000, Slovenia, which is a beautiful country, 162,000. In 15th place, United States, $37,500 if you win a,000. gold medal in the U.S. If you win a silver medal in your U.S. citizen, 22,500. And if you win a bronze medal, $15,000, which is kind of interesting. Yeah, and I'm happy that the social media world exists because there's another avenue for
Starting point is 00:43:01 some of these athletes to make money. And I think it's so important when you get this opportunity for a year, like you're over there competing, which is the main thing, but what else are you doing? What relationships are you making? What content are you putting out there? What else are you doing for your brand and yourself? Things we talk about all the time because it needs to be done. And like you talked about the quad god.
Starting point is 00:43:22 Like if the quad god doesn't have some type of like shorts line or boxers or line or come on. But what an opportunity for that guy. Having a personality on top of just being like an elite athlete. Do you know any Olympians? Bishop Carney, the school that I work for that I run the boys hockey program, we have eight alumni on the girl's side in the Olympics. Wait, what is going on with the men's hockey? No, it's standard right now.
Starting point is 00:43:52 All the prelims are... Is Canada a favorite to win? All the prelims are done. Canada, U.S. are going to be in the quarterfinals. I don't think they're going to see each other until the finals if they both make it. It's exciting. The teams are playing great. It's electric.
Starting point is 00:44:05 What else is trending on your algorithm right now? On TikTok, social, Eustle, Epstein files. Not to bring it back to. darkness. But, yeah, we got to, we got to stay in the brightness, but like, I know. It's, it's, it's fucking insane. It's, I mean, we could, yeah, this third. Maybe it's a 30 minute Thursday episode because I can't, I can't go there.
Starting point is 00:44:28 Fuck. Right now, but it's, like, what? Yeah. Yeah. Honestly, we should just pause here because there's just too much unpack. And if we start touching it, it's going to be. Taylor, Frankie. What the fuck?
Starting point is 00:44:40 All right. Change topic. Like Taylor Frankie Paul is. Played at the one. I saw her playing at the NBA All-Star game celebrity. It's different this year, dude. This is a whole, this whole, there's something going on here that's very different with the social media element, the promo, the marketing. You know, she's playing in that massive game.
Starting point is 00:45:00 And I think what we're seeing here, what Disney and ABC is doing, which is brilliant, is they're kind of copying the Netflix model, right? Netflix model is, you know, even they're scripted shows, right? So they're limited series shows. You have the same actors and actresses who are like blowing up on Netflix. They'll go to different shows, right? With unscripted, the same. So there's a whole like Netflix family and they'll take people and they'll move them over to different shows. We're now seeing that with ABC.
Starting point is 00:45:29 I think you got Secret Lives and Mormon Wives, Dancing with the Stars, Dancing with the Stars, spin off. And I think you're going to continue to see that movement with ABC shows. You see people that go on Dancing with the Stars as celebs. now move into different elements. So this new Dance With the Stars show that I just, I don't know, I just read something. I know nothing from an insider perspective, but it looks like they're saying like Robert Irwin might be hosting this new show.
Starting point is 00:45:52 So it's like, I think you're starting to see that movement. It'll be fascinating to see what happens with this season of Bachelorette. Like, when's the last time you watched a season? Joey's season. I haven't watched anything since then. Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:22 You want to watch and maybe cover it? We got to watch and cover. 30 minute Thursdays. It's going to happen. We're going to get on it. And we're going to not, like, can I challenge you, Jay? Sure. Can we actually recap the Bacheloret
Starting point is 00:47:36 and, like, really give our honest thoughts and not like worry, like have a little bit of like ABC is going to come after? me and I got to hold them in good graces because I got dumped in front of national TV eight years ago on their show. That's fair. That's fair. Let's see what we can do. I mean, I got to play.
Starting point is 00:47:52 I'll play by the rules, but we can dabble. Okay. I think we need to dabble. I think that, like we've said before, I think they're, I think they're, when you put Taylor, Frankie Paul on, I actually think she's, we had the emergency episode with Kelly, which was electric when she got announced. You know, obviously we're seeing a lot more, like you said, presence on social media and strategy behind it.
Starting point is 00:48:14 I think that she's going to be entertaining and good. I think that they want ABC by choosing her, wants clicks, want people talking about the show. So I think we got to talk about the show and maybe not worry about it being so PC maybe and just really give our honest opinions about it. All right. I think it would be really fun too is we talk obviously about money and career on this
Starting point is 00:48:34 podcast, but I feel like on the first season, we got like first episode, we do our research, we break down the first impressions. I want to see the actual careers of these people, what they're doing the age. And now more than ever, we can answer the question, are they there for the right reason? Because we know that there's a massive platform on this season, unlike others. And the right reason might be, does he have a capability having a career in social media after this? Maybe that is the new right reason. Maybe it is.
Starting point is 00:49:04 Maybe it isn't. What social media will look like in a year from now? I don't know. There's a lot of action here. Are you watching Summerhouse at all or no? No. Okay. Summerhouse is dead.
Starting point is 00:49:15 Sorry. That's great. Summer House, it's, it's tough because we already know both the breakup and obviously of Kyle and Amanda and I don't really need to see a play out on TV when I think that it's not genuine. I think it's almost like scripted where they knew they were breaking up. And so it's timing wise of the announcement kind of had to wait for the show to build up. Like I when page left, I think the show took a hit. And I think with this is like, I think, I think summer house is done.
Starting point is 00:49:45 I think we're moving on from summer house. What do you think about that? Am I wrong? Am I an idiot? I just can't figure out what's in. There's too much right now. It's like what I see happening is that there's this stage. It's just everyone's on the stage.
Starting point is 00:50:03 And then like certain people are rising. And when they're rising, I'm not really, I'm still, I'm still trying to understand the why behind they're rising. missing, but the stage is so big and there's so many people on stage, so I can't figure out what's in. It felt like Summer House last year was massive. It was everywhere. I don't know if the Olympics have an impact. It's hard for me to really get connected with like what the hell is happening. But you got the, David, I went and I was like, what is trending right now? I did a whole Google search on what's trending. You got the Olympics, you got Super Bowl, you got traders,
Starting point is 00:50:34 you got Summerhouse, you got NBA All-Star game, you got Epstein files, you got, I mean, you got a lot of stuff in the pop culture business. 2026 Winter Olympics. Maya Hawk, I don't know who. Tyler Reddit is trending. More Olympics. Is President's Day of federal holiday is currently trending? NBA All-Star, the hunting party.
Starting point is 00:50:58 Is it? They're just like USA versus German hockey is trending right now. Chinese New Year, 26, but there's Jake Paul. What the hell is Jake Paul trending for? What those guys? Well, he's engaged to the girl, the one who won. And he was electric in the stands. He was crying like a proud, proud fiance.
Starting point is 00:51:19 It was amazing. Yeah, that's beautiful. It actually did see that. Yeah, it's, I need to bring it back to Harry. I need something trending in this world that we feel good about. And that's why I do love the Olympics. It brings back a little bit of joy and cheering for the common person in something that they've dedicated their life to.
Starting point is 00:51:37 and there's emotion attached to that. And I love that aspect of the Olympics. Yeah, I think we're looking for, I think everyone's looking for a little feel-good story right now. It feels like there's just a lot happening in the world and our lives. It feels like things are heavier, moving towards a little bit of robotic, so to like gets some emotion tied to things. It's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:51:57 David, I'm going to go over a couple finance things. Tell me if any of these land with you. We just got a U.S. inflation report. It's at 2.4% in January, 2026. so inflation is slowing down a little bit. The Fed Reserve's targets 2%, so it's still above what they're expecting. Interest rates for anyone out there, 30-year rates right now, according to NerdWall at 5.82%.
Starting point is 00:52:17 15-year rates are at 5.34%. What's interesting about the residential space, the residential real estate space, is that market inventory is up 10%, but it's still about 20% lower than pre-pandemic level. So when you have limited supply, that kind of controls pricing to either stabilize or go up. But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:52:40 In general, I'm going to look for more houses Thursday. It feels like there's a lot of random stuff happening in the residential space, and it feels very subjective to where you are actually living in the United States. One big one right now is that the average APR for credit cards is like 20 to 25 percent. And total credit card debt has never been this high. It's about $1.1 to $1.2 trillion. The other thing with credit card debt is we are seeing delinquencies move. Late payments are starting to trend up from past COVID lows.
Starting point is 00:53:13 So we're starting to see late payments are moving up and up and up right now, and delinquencies are moving up. So we'll see what happens with that. But those are the things that are really connecting. When I look at what's trending in finance, the big thing is markets are up, but people are still feeling this like invisible pain. that no one's talking about when it comes to spending, saving, and stagnant wage growth. So do any of those land with you?
Starting point is 00:53:39 A lot of them land with me. You know, inflation 2.6% lands to me on a work-wise. We just sent our contracts to our returning families at my hockey academy. And they're subject to a 3% increase over a year. So to go with inflation. So I feel good about that. Loving my 2.9% mortgage interest rate when you're saying those 30-year fixed numbers, it just makes me feel good about something financially, which is very rare for me.
Starting point is 00:54:04 And so a lot of those things are landing me and I am still one of those people, like you said, who's still kind of flowing in those like, you know, post-COVID inflation, you know, tides where, you know, markets are up, but I'm still fighting to stay alive here. So I think a lot of people resonate with that and they're just trying to do their best. They're trying to do their best. Well, David, this was fun chopping it up with you. It was a nice little Sunday. Happy birthday.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Big year coming up, 3-9. John Gurney, as you're editing this, we're still waiting on you to give us potential. John Gurney. Still waiting on you to give us some podcast availability so we could do a JTA. Boy, am I excited for this JTA. So much to unpack in the content space.
Starting point is 00:54:50 My God. Yeah, I'm going to tease a JTA question. I was going to ask it here, but John's going to. Fire away. What is it? Well, I was going to say, you asked me about Valentine's Day. It's so nice to be. I didn't get a chance to ask you back. I was just going to ask you not about what you spent on Valentine's Day.
Starting point is 00:55:10 I was going to ask you how you feel on this Valentine's Day. And real quick on spending. I just been going and going and going. I bought Super Bowl tickets, by the way. Oh, you did? Yeah, bought Super Bowl tickets. I'll give me the breakdown. There's a little JTA.
Starting point is 00:55:27 Typically, that Super Bowl tickets are. connected into deals. That we didn't see as much happened this year, but it happened, just not as much. When I went there, I had deals that put me in around, I made about 50, 55 grand that weekend from deals. And then the Super Bowl tickets were, I bought them 50 minutes before kickoff, 24 hours before, they were 9,800 a piece. I got them for 3,250 each plus fee. so it was around seven grand for two tickets worth it every penny wow dude look at this up harry and day i met harry and day i know i know every single penny it was worth it every penny awesome that's six years it's so much fun unbelievable and then as far as like how i'm feeling man i i've never felt better like i'm just
Starting point is 00:56:18 like i'm so happy i feel so excited about like my life and where it's going and when you have a partner that just brings out the best in you and you bring out the best in them. Like independently, I've grown so much as a person to be able to find someone like Catherine, but then for where I'm at, I'm just so happy on my own, but to be able to share that with someone that is so special, it's like, it's truly, it's a dream come true. It's a true. So I'm going to propose something and it's up to John Gurney to make it happen. Okay.
Starting point is 00:56:53 we're going to fly down today's Sunday night we're going to fly down on my birthday is Tuesday okay I want to fly down with Ashley on Tuesday on my birthday I want you and me I can't do Tuesday why not I thought you said I could do this this Tuesday and like Sunday like Tuesday like Thursday or Friday my Monday I go to I love that see this is what I'm talking about 30 30 Thursday everyone's going to get to behind the scenes like the low yeah yeah this is kind of funny I'm going to University of South Carolina, Columbia tomorrow. I'm hosting a dating show for the students. It's just like, you haven't turned the page on this yet?
Starting point is 00:57:34 Like, I should be going in. Like, I should be like the fake Jason Tartick. That's like, yeah, no, that's just, I'm a representative of them. Let's do it, though. So I'm going out there. Can't wait. Let's go. And then Catherine's getting her wisdom teeth out Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:57:47 So can we do like a Thursday? Okay. John Gurney John Gurney Get a studio space Get a studio space So I can fly there So we can have a JTA
Starting point is 00:58:00 And my I agree that this Valentine's Day And my pitch was The recap of JTA Should be me, you Catherine and Ashley Oh wow Let's go
