David, I haven't done a ding, ding,
I don't know.
Wow, that was a throwback.
I think you were trying to say ring, ring, ring.
Wow.
Well, I think you guys still think you have something on your mind.
I think you're still celebrating.
Holy smokes.
I haven't done a ding ding in months since 30 minute Thursdays.
We haven't had recaps.
I need to do that over again.
Here we go.
Okay, here we go.
Okay, here we go.
Welcome back to another.
episode of 30 Minute Thursday.
I'm your host, Jason Target with the one, the only, the curious Canadian, where we talk
all things about the previous episode, Steve Kane.
We talk about pop culture, life, money, markets, and what's happening in each of our lives.
We are back for 30Bid Thursday.
If you can, please make sure you subscribe.
Go give us a five-star review.
Tell us what your favorite thing about Tritting Secrets is.
David, I had to redo that intro.
We are no longer ding, ding-ding, but we are ring, ringing.
How you doing, baby?
I'm doing great.
I'm doing great.
A lot of things happen in the life.
busy but good busy. I'm coming off
another back-to-back member guest
golf tournament championship which was
exciting and exhilarating
and again just
something that is just amazing
to do as an adult has competed
at a high level in a sport so that was fun.
I got my family here from Vancouver right now
so I'm a busy boy but
it's great to see you
my favorite thing about 30 minute Thursdays
Jay sometimes we go two-thirds
of the way talking about recapping the guest
sometimes we have tons of pop culture things
to talk about, and we've talked a lot of Summerhouse, Love Island, Taylor Swift.
And sometimes, Jay, sometimes we dive a little deeper into the personal.
And boy, oh boy, dude, we have a big personal week for my boy, Jason Tardick.
First and foremost, congratulations on the engagement.
Snap, snap, snap, snap, snap, snap, snap.
Listen, I knew it was coming.
I knew it was coming from the first time I met her.
And I just got to say, so you hear it from me first.
I'm so happy for you.
I am so happy for Catherine.
I am so happy that everything was meant to be.
And I know it was an easy road getting here.
And I know that you've had a lot of support systems in your life.
And I know all those support systems are just taking a deep breath,
are so looking forward to the future that you guys are going to share it together.
Ashley and I are so excited to be able to be a part of it.
But that's enough for me.
How are you feeling?
Big week, my man, big week.
Well, hey, congratulations on your.
win. So exciting. We'll talk about
how, but real quick, let's snap it.
Trading Secrets. How much do we make?
We made just five figures on that one.
Let's go. Come on.
Yeah. Yeah. I get it back in the golf game.
But no, thank you. So the
kindness words, I mean, you nailed it.
I mean, you're just like, I was saying
Catherine and I podcasted this week, talking a lot about it.
And next week, next Monday, it's going to come out. We're talking about
the proposal, leading up to it, Europe,
all the details of the moving
parts, the nuances, the hilarious moments from it, and a little bit about what wedding planning is
looking like. But I think I'm just so grateful. I've had some moments where I was living in
the depths of hell, you know, in over the last, let's call it, decade. And there's been moments
where I've been living in the highest highs. And I just think about life's chapters. And like,
every chapter is just so important to get you where you want to eventually be. And not all chapters
are sunshine and roses. And I'm sure there's people that are listening to
this right now that are in a dark chapter, but it's like those dark chapters that truly will make
the best version of you if you choose to grow. You move forward with class, you move forward with
integrity. You keep looking inward and not pointing the finger and find ways to put yourself in a better
position. I promise you the light is there. For me, maybe it took longer than most, but you know what?
The light was there. And Catherine is by light. You've obviously got to know Catherine very well,
and it's so nice of you to say those things. Very, very sweet. And it was a special.
special time. And as you know, we talk about it on the podcast, that was in June. So it's been a
month. You know how many times David's want to slip on 30 minute Thursdays? But we're just like,
we're going to enjoy a little month to ourselves, take it all in. And you know, I can tease.
I can spoil what the best of them. This one, the lips were sealed as they had to be. But I just,
you know, you must just be on cloud nine right now. And cloud nine, as we all have been there,
once you start the wedding planning process,
there's some bumps along the way because wedding planning is stressful and it's busy.
But I think this time you're going to be in a really good situation with Catherine.
I think you guys,
knowing you two are really going to enjoy the wedding planning process.
Are you guys seeing eye to eye,
not to spoil too much about Mondays,
but are you seeing eye to eye on vision,
on future, on place,
on size,
on timing on all those things?
Yeah,
there's not like,
in all the conversations we've had about wedding planning,
there's not one area that we're,
like hard line disagreeing. Like we're totally, I always say we're aligned on pretty much everything.
It's just really drilling down to like what do we want, right? If you do a destination,
you got to understand like what comes with that. If we do something closer to home,
we can understand what comes with that. And I think kind of, and we talk about on the episode
Monday, so stay tuned for that. But we're kind of, I say right now, which could change is
kind of leaning towards, I don't even know. I think we're leaning towards most important
priority number one is making sure the people that we're,
really, really want to be there can be there no matter what. And I think less about like photos or
location or those things. It's more about making sure that the people that have been a part of our
life to get us to this point are there to celebrate with us. And so that obviously changes location
and things like that. But yeah, there's a lot. I mean, it's so funny because you can T-chart at all.
There's no perfect place. You know, there's always going to be plus and minuses, making sure our
plus is a line. We're with my mom and dad.
and the more it's at the lakehouse.
Catherine and I were there
would brainstorm on certain things.
And it's like you could just go in circles
and circles about, you know, exactly
what makes sense and stuff like that.
But at the end of the day, I feel like
the things that are important to us in the wedding
are like totally aligned, which is great.
When you go and see a destination wedding
like Blake and G's and obviously
in what two, three weeks here, we got
Hawks wedding, our best friend's wedding
in Rochester, New York, which we're both groomsmen in.
And that's going to be a really family-focused,
hometown both sides big 350 person wedding do you find yourselves at these things like taking the
notepad out the mental notepad and jotting down it's like oh i love this we have to make sure we do this
we have to do that are you pulling ideas or seeing things that you may have not liked that you're
like oh that maybe that didn't work out as planned or something that we don't need is are are those
are those wheels turning in your head right now oh 100% yeah 100 i think like for sure it's actually
really good point like the easiest thing to do is actually eliminate
what you know you don't want to do,
then trying to figure out exactly right.
So it's very easy for us to be like,
okay, Europe way too far.
Like she's got, you know,
it's so important for her family to be there
and she has a sister with four kids.
Like,
no, Europe is off the table.
I think you figure out what works,
what doesn't work,
like what I loved at your wedding.
I still talk about it.
And I loved at Blake and she's wedding
was that DJ aspect.
Like you had the band,
which was like classy and fun and we're going nuts.
But then like,
you think the party's over and everyone's vibe in.
And then the DJ,
and that's what you did that and that was so much fun.
I think one thing that I really liked about the destination part is when you get so many people
from so many different walks of life.
And if they're surrounded in your life and important to your life,
they're probably just good humans with a lot of energy,
which a lot of the people that we are close to are.
And it takes a second in a wedding to get everyone to like mold a little bit.
What I mean?
Like to vibe, be like, okay, guards are down.
We're getting the vibe.
So definitely wherever we do it, some kind of like welcome party.
It's like get everyone in the like get to know each other, see each other.
Okay, tomorrow we rip.
And then I think the biggest thing is like have fun, but really, really factor in the experience for the people that are there.
Like it is about us and our day, but the people we are is making sure that the experience for everyone that chooses to give us our time is a good one and that's important to us.
I think you're thinking about it the right way.
My advice, I got a lot of advice that I'll spit.
through you in this journey, but most importantly right now, honestly, and I think this advice
to heart is just be selfish, man, like, have your priorities aligned, be selfish.
Mine was in Rochester, New York. I tried to make it a destination by starting it on Thursday
and ending it on Saturday and getting people in town, but it's important. Like, if you're not
doing a destination, how do you get everyone here to really feel? Not you're just in it for the people
getting married, but all the extensions of their life that you want to have everybody mean everything.
and I think you guys will crush it.
I think you guys obviously,
because you've been able to let people into your lives,
see how well you guys balance each other,
while also seeing how similar you guys are
and you guys really, really want the same things in life
and so supportive with each other.
So that's going to be great.
Now, I've got to turn the page,
something you're not going to talk about
on the episode with Catherine Furs,
the Bachelor Party, Jay.
Where can I start spinning?
Where can I start envisioning as I lay my head down at night?
What do you thinking?
What kind of vibe we're going with here?
I don't know.
I mean, I don't know.
Dude, this is where I go, heywire.
You know how I'm telling you about the wedding?
I'm like, no, we're pretty dialed.
It might be here, here, or here.
Like, you'll hear on Monday, there's three places that we're locked into.
And I haven't even told you those three places.
So you're going to have to listen to the episode.
I would love to.
I'm like, world our oyster.
What do we want to do?
Europe's insane.
There's probably too much to ask from people.
But if we don't do Europe, what do we do?
Do we do Canada?
Do we do Mexico?
Do we do somewhere in the States?
What is the vibe?
I don't know. What is your thought? What do you think it should look like?
It's not up to me. So it's up to you. What I envision is us not in a very high populous area.
Like I don't picture us in Vegas. I don't picture us in like a sceny place. I picture us in like a little bit of like a, I don't know, dare I say like mountainous resort, massive like villa.
We got a big spot. It's all about getting the guys that are there in a room together as long as possible.
We're doing some fun adventures or doing this. Or just some dinners, some bops, out of booze. I think it's, I think it's going to be unique.
I think it's going to be a lot about the people spending time with the people that are there, getting in the weeds, 3, 4 a.m. conversation deep in the weeds about all the good stuff.
But it's about celebrating news. So it's whatever you want at the end of the day.
I see a see a setting that allows us to be together a lot of the time.
Instead of like doing 24-7, it's about being 24-7.
I like that.
It's a good take.
I think it's a good way to work backwards, even with the wedding and the batch part, it's like, what exactly do you want out of it?
And what do you imagine doing with the boys?
And then based on that, work backwards.
So if it's like, okay, I imagine water.
I imagine this.
Like it's like what destinations can give us that, right?
So more to come, guys.
There is going to be a lot of 30 minute Thursdays here and a lot of episodes on wedding planning,
the cost of wedding planning, the moving parts of wedding planning, all the exciting stuff that come
with it.
The multitude of nuances in this next chapter, it is going to be amazing.
We're going to share it all here on 30 minute Thursdays and our episodes.
So make sure that you stay tuned.
And it's going to be, it's going to be fun.
And it's just such an exciting chapter.
It's also, I think, what's so important to is to just make sure that this is so fun.
Like we were joking like when we posted the other day, they were like, this is like her fifth wedding celebration, you know.
And we had the day of.
We did a photo shoot.
We did that.
We get to celebrate with her family and that my family get celebrate with friends.
It was amazing.
So this stage of being engaged is just so much fun.
And I think living in this is like, I'm just, I can't wait.
People will say it's very stressful and all those things.
I would go back and do the wedding planning, wedding day, wedding.
wedding festivities a million times over. It was such the special time in your life. And honestly,
you said earlier, yeah, do you a little longer than most maybe, but at the end of the day, good,
man. You're just that much more aware of what's happening, why it's happening, how special is it
happening, how much it took to get there. It's going to allow you to prioritize what you actually
want based off of what you've experienced. And, oh, man, it's just going to be the best. And I can't
wait to experience it with you and see you just so happy and crying like a little girl when
Calton comes down the aisle because I know for fact that's like a minus 300 bet going down on that
on Cali. So yeah, I think I'm toast there. But I think it's to your point. It's like everything in life
I've learned this the hard way is for every bit of pain there's beauty for like life is stressful.
Planning a wedding is stressful. I have heard it from from you having kids is stressful. Right.
Like work is stressful. All this life is fucking hard. And the opposite side of that coin, there's just so much
beauty and I've heard it from you having a kid is the best thing that you ever could dream of planning a
wedding is such a luxury and such a beautiful moment so it's I think it's just so important to find
beauty in the process because in anything that's great there's going to be pain and so that can be the
stress and I can't wait for that I can't wait to share it with everyone and let's go let's go all right
well here's what I'll tell you guys yes make sure to follow along because Monday full episode with
Catherine. We talk about all the stuff, the questions you might have, the ring, the wedding,
the process, the planning, the funny, hilarious parts where I screwed up almost 100 times where I
almost completely ruined the surprise, all the stuff. It's coming Monday. Can't wait to share it
with you. But we also had a big episode this week. We talked all healthcare industry to hear Steve
from United Healthcare talk about all the moving parts of this industry and how 89% of the
cost of health care is things that health insurance providers like United Health Care don't even
touch. And to hear how complex it is from his standpoint. And to see if you're 26 today, 26 years ago,
it was $5,000 on average for health care now. It's 3x that. There's so many moving parts this
episode. There's also a lot of discussions that we had that I thought are really, really solid about
wellness and how United Healthcare has this consistent message of, you know,
know, preventative, preventative, preventative. And I think it'd be cool if we even talked about
some of the things that we try to do from a preventative standpoint. But healthcare covers a lot.
It's a massive industry. You heard it on that episode. United Healthcare, CEO of California,
Stephen Kane. David, what you think? I think just a massive guest to have on speaking about
such a massive part of our lives. And it's just like I compared this, you know, health insurance to
taxes to all those things that are such a key core piece of our lives that we are never
educated on.
We are hyper confused on.
And dare I say in the healthcare sector, like afraid of.
Ignorance is bliss.
Not true with healthcare.
If I don't go get checked up, it means nothing can ever be wrong with me.
That's a little bit about like I listen to this having a little bit of anxiety because
I don't do a lot of preventative like checkups and screenings.
I'm more like I take, I brag about that I have.
haven't been to the doctors in 15 years, right?
That is something that when I listen to this, I'm like,
we gotta not brag about that.
This episode should change that thought for you.
Exactly. And to hear, honestly,
what I thought in him and why he was so inspiring
to listen to is like, he's a CEO of California
for United Healthcare and he's relating and resonating
in saying like, it is too confusing, right?
He is so passionate about connecting information
and getting better access to their constituents
Vincent, talking about the cost of health care and really showing that like his whole passion
behind what he does is to, is resonates with with the people under their health insurance and
making things cheaper and more affordable, more accessible at the end of the day, giving them the
information up front so they can make the informed decisions. That was like the big takeaway.
And knowing that someone isn't trying to take advantage of that, they're actually trying to
help it was really, really good to hear. But yeah, man, I mean, it's it's health care.
It's health as well. We've talked to a lot of wealthy people in this podcast.
but we all know health as wealth, and that is the most important thing.
So to have someone who talked behind the scenes, the business side of it, was really interesting.
Yeah, I also find it fascinating that there's so many parallels in the conversation,
Stephen and I had, to also financial transparency.
We talk about how many people don't know what premiums, the definition of premiums,
and how many people just don't know their way around one of their biggest expenses
that connects to every single moving part of their life,
That's the stuff that has to change.
That's where we need to say more education, more transparency.
Like if there's one thing I think you take away from this episode,
I mean, there's a lot.
Preventative health care is everything.
The other thing I would say is the analogy he made about like,
just imagine you go to a bar and you get a beer and you get a burger and you don't know what
it costs.
It's a $900.
Right?
You'd be like, what are you talking about?
and to hear that companies like United Healthcare are making change to ensure that that transparency exists
because they've understood and do understand that the present, it's still a massive issue.
That's everything you want to hear in a CEO.
Like we could, like on this episode, do you think about it?
Like, I could go in there guns ablaze in with like, well, what about this problem, this problem, and this problem,
to see a CEO of a major organization like this, be able to take the ownership and the awareness.
of being like, I see where we're wrong.
I see the change that happens.
I'm working my ass off to make that change for people.
We hear you, we see you, we feel you, we're there.
We need to do something.
Like to me, that's like, that's a dream in a space that you know that people are hurting it.
There people are hurting it.
And David, I'm going to give you, I always give you challenges.
I always do this is what we do on recaps and now 30 minute Thursdays.
You got to go on a doctor.
Two times you stop putting it off.
two times a year. You got two kids. You could be the healthiest person in the world and you just never know what pops up. I think we saw the last week. Grocery store Joe did a pernuvos scan and found out that he has a brain tumor is now going to get tested to see what's going on with it. But like without that scan, he doesn't see it. There's been plenty of play of examples of people that go to do some of the preventative things or just take care of what they got to take care of and things pop up. And so I am going to put you in a position where you got to go. Okay. At least one.
time a year. We got to do it. I got to go. I got to do it. You have my word on that. I will do it.
And I tell you what, Jay, it was one thing when I was on the health insurance for myself,
you'll learn now you're going to have a spouse. You're going to have to have joint health
benefits. Then you're going to have kids. And then your kids are going to, you know, I pay a
disgusting amount of money for health insurance. And part of it almost like, it's like I should be
paying. Since I pay so much, I should be using it more.
but I get so angry that I just like I pay it and I don't even want to deal with it.
But we all know that life doesn't work like that.
So I got to put my big boy pants on a little bit here.
I got to start taking advantage of that.
And you're going to go through this, Jay.
You're going to go through this.
You're going to go through this.
You're going to go through it.
I think a lot of what we echo or what we talk about on the podcast with like the points
guy, we talk about these things like making sure that you're squeezing your value dry.
I think that's a lot of the stuff that we heard from,
see if getting into the health care is like understand the benefits that these companies provide you.
understand what they cover, understand where you can squeeze it dry so you can get the benefit.
So I'm going to push you. You're paying a lot. I think it's very clear from this episode.
A lot of people are paying a lot. But let's continue to do our part as consumers.
As we know that there are leaders like that that are trying to do their part because they hear us and they see us to put ourselves in the best position to win.
But it's a lot. It's a layered industry with hopefully a lot of positive change to come.
And yeah. So great episode. Learned so much. How about you, David?
I mean, I can't help but not acknowledge the CEO of California United Health Care's
trading secret was stay healthy.
Healthy body and a healthy mind.
It's like, hey, there's no magic trick.
There's no, there's no anything.
And you've heard us talk about it on the podcast all the time when I'm not healthy,
when I'm eating like shit, when I'm sleeping like shit, when I'm stressed, I'm a miserable
human being around.
I couldn't agree more with that take.
I couldn't agree more with a lot of his takes.
He had some really good analogies.
The burger and beer is a perfect one.
I loved his, when you asked him like,
you have to make some big decisions that affect millions of people.
He talked about what I think about my mom, my dad, my brother and sister, my friends, and my family.
If they won't really jive with it, then maybe it's not a good idea.
I thought there was a lot of really good examples outside of using his industry in terms of relatability for us, the listener, the consumer.
So it's like I've always said, beauty of this podcast.
You get people, you have CEOs of massive, massive healthcare companies.
You get reality TV stars.
You get, you know, all the ins and outs.
This is just another educational episode that, you know,
It was just good to hear a perspective of someone in that industry.
You got to love it.
You got to love it.
And I know we're wrapping up here as we wrap up this recap on the United Healthcare episode.
I got to tell you, David, I'm going to Espe's tonight.
So I'm excited next Thursday to share a little bit more about what SBs entails from someone that will be there.
But it's at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Came in this morning.
Got out.
I'll leave tomorrow 24 hours.
but yeah, a lot of, a lot of action.
There's a lot of...
Have you been?
Nominees, never been.
But I can't wait.
I'm so, so fired up.
Hopefully I run into John.
I know Rob G's going, but I forget about Rob G.
I want to run into Josh Allen.
Again.
Josh Allen again.
Do you think he remembers you?
Follows me at Instagram.
Okay.
Yeah.
Because you ran into him Super Bowl, Miami back in like 2021 at the Barstool,
a barstool, a rough and rowdy event.
We had a nice little beer together.
It was freaking right.
But yeah, Espies tonight, going to Detroit this weekend to celebrate with Catherine's family in Plybeth.
Go to Dairy King.
Shout out to her dad's ice cream shop.
And yeah, man, there's a lot of action here.
We obviously with World Cup, we saw that Spain dominated France.
We got Argentina, England going on right now as we're doing this.
David, I don't know if we've talked about this or not.
So if we have, just tell me.
But do you know how many people watch the World Cup?
Watched on TV?
How many people tune into the world's got?
I have no idea, but it's got to be
7 billion people in the world.
There's so many games.
I think, like, unique-wise, I don't know,
but they've got to be multiple billion views.
Wow, that's the first person.
I've asked a lot of people this question,
the first person that said multiple billion.
Most people, what they'll do, at least what I did,
and a couple other people I talk to today,
they'll bring it down to the Super Bowl.
They'll be like, well, who watches the Super Bowl?
No.
No.
...watch the Super Bowl.
So then they try and put in perspective,
that's the biggest event in the United States
and internationally it's watching.
a lot so they try and take a multiple of that but it is 1.3 billion people are expected to tune in
to the World Cup which is crazy speaking of crazy lots of big numbers and pop culture meets numbers
brice and trinity fan favorite couple from love island season eight they win trinity is the fastest
islander to reach two million followers in less than six weeks that good for her
We have been pleasure.
There's only so much I can share, of course, because of, you know,
confidentiality clauses and things like that.
But the majority of the Islanders we've had the chance to meet with after the show,
talk agency, talk business, things like that.
It's been fun, man.
These kids are, they're kids, right?
Like, these are young kids and they're badass and they're motivated and they want the
world and they're ready for the world.
They're ready to take it on.
Extremely independent.
They know what they want.
And it's so interesting, David.
like if you think about when you were 21 to think about like the things that you would look up to as far as like I want to be like this I want to be like that it's kind of wild to hear people in meetings be like I want to be Alex Earl right like I want to like these new names that like you and I over the years have seen go from nothing to everything and now they are the idols they are the idols to inspire to be it's just wild how that's changed like creators and influencers and people that just started from their phone and the internet are now massive massive massive massive massive massive massive
of A-list celebrities.
We're going to be with Jake Paul tonight.
And it's just like, it's fucking crazy the way like YouTubers and stuff and all this
stuff had become like where they are.
It's just wild.
It's that.
But I also wonder if they really realize how hard it is, how much work it is, how it's
24-7.
I'm curious to see.
And that's why only a few of them actually extend their career and the platforms to the
time they do.
But they're going to get the opportunity.
And man, I just even talking to TJ last week and hearing about it, I was like, man,
That's a lot of work and he's still young and I'm like,
I put myself in their shoes.
I was like, I was not a, I would have abused the,
I wouldn't have been able to keep my head on straight with all the work that I would
have had done to keep me relevant.
I would have just,
I just would have faded into the abyss for sure because it's,
it's tough.
You got to have your priorities completely laid out straight.
But yeah, Love Island season is over.
I think that's a good thing.
And we're going to move over.
We're going to move on.
We're going to move forward.
We're going to keep recapping the guests.
We're going to keep checking in with you on that.
We did the house updates for like six weeks because that was a big thing.
That's going to be nothing compared to this.
I'm just going to pick your brain.
I'm going to ask where we're at in the wedding planning process, any new news to share,
anything like that.
It's an exciting time.
It's an exciting time.
It's one of those moments.
I'll wrap with this, Jay, when we started this 2021, five years ago to be able to grow together
and go through life experiences together.
And I know because when you got, when you're,
announcement became official. I got so many DMs about you saying how happy they were for you
and how they've been a listener from the podcast from day one. And we're taking people along the
journey with us. And I swear that we talked about on the John and Alex episode where
kid content is the most relatable content. Well, if kid is the most relatable contact,
the wedding and engagement and house buying, you're going through it. So you're going to have a lot of
people along for the ride. They love you. They support you. There's
happy for you and I'm so excited to to celebrate. I can't wait. Perfectly said, David, thank you for
those kind words. Truly means the world for everyone that's been with us since day one. Thank you.
Thank you for just like always being there supporting us. I think whether it's crying on this
podcast. It's JTA 2024 what I'm like I would give it all up to find my person. Just through it all.
Thank you for being here and supporting and continuing to to stay in the
the game with us as we continue to let our chapters unfold via a podcast and social media.
And yeah, it's a wild world.
And all I can say is how grateful I am.
I just said I feel very, very, very lucky.
And so that's a good feeling.
And I can't wait to share it all with everyone.
And on Monday, we got some of that that we'll be sharing.
So tune in Monday.
Catherine and I are on the ones and twos, David.
I ding ding ding dinged us in.
I'll ring, ring, ring us out.
It's great to be back with you.
on the 30 minute Thursdays.
I almost said recap.
Off to the SB ZI go.
Awesome.
Awesome.
Channel our little innerhood child
as you look at the athletes
and be there
and I'll be thinking about you
and look forward to hearing about it.
All right, brother.
We'll talk soon.
Thank you for tuning into another episode
of Trades.
One, you can't afford to miss.
