Starting point is 00:00:00 The Hulu original series Furious is coming to Disney Plus, starring Emmy Rossum. Furious follows FBI agent Alice Black on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating serial killer. Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur. Don't miss the three-episode premiere of the Hulu original series Furious on July 27th, only on Hulu on Disney Plus. another episode of Trading Secrets. This one. This one. This one is a special one. It is with, this might be the first time I feel like I've said it publicly. My fiance, Catherine Hurley,
Starting point is 00:01:01 let's go from Plymouth, Michigan, founder of Wags in Wax, Nashville. Unbelievable rescue here in town, which is how I met you. And we got a lot to unpack today. We got to go over the the Europe trip, a little Euro recap. I think we should talk about the day of, the craziness of the day of, the ring, of course, your perspective, my perspective, the storytelling, and just what life has looked like in the last month and what it will look like in the next, I don't call it 12 to 18 months. There's a lot to unpack. This is an episode like no other on Trading Secrets, Catherine, Pianthe, how you've done?
Starting point is 00:01:44 feeling, baby. So happy to be here. It is so good to be here. We, by the way, we just finished work. Yeah. I mean, your adoption center is right over here, right across the street. A couple miles down the road. A couple miles down the road. It's been a, we went on Sunday. We went to go see my parents and the Morts. We celebrated at their lakehouse. Had some champagne. Then last night, we put it out there. We posted it. Catherine woke up this morning. Like, you were so far, you're like, this is a lot. Like, this is a lot. And of course, just the energy of the kindness is unbelievable, but it's also, whoa. You know, you woke up this morning, your face is on TMZ. And then we went to dinner last night. We, of course, got to celebrate during our engagement. We also did, when we came back home, we, of course, did an engagement
Starting point is 00:02:30 shoot with the boys. I mean, the boys are part of our story. So they had to be part of the shoot. So we were joking last night at dinner. We're like, we've had literally like six engagements. Four thousand parties. By the way, it's the best. It's the best. I would highly recommend it before we dig into all those details take a good sip by the way we're roughing it we had some wine last night
Starting point is 00:02:53 guys we're celebrating we got a little celebration bender so last night we were coming to this podcast I'm like why don't I just grab us a couple of tricks you're like let's do it what do you want and I was like gas station's over here you want wine check a liquor store
Starting point is 00:03:04 or you're like no get a spritz and let's rough it up so we got some styrofoam cups from the gas station a little different than our cocktails last night But hey, that's life, that's us. Cheers. Cheers to us and the rest of life.
Starting point is 00:03:19 The rest of our life. Oh my God. By the way, I'm going first. Okay. So. You're up. Bad or up? No, no.
Starting point is 00:03:28 I mean, I'm going first. Like I'm... Oh, my gosh. I hate when you talk about this. But I am. It's already like set in stone. I'm going first. I thought you just meant you were going to talk first.
Starting point is 00:03:37 These are the things that I think about now. I'm like, no. Like, I'm going first. No. These are the things that keep me up at night and give me. the anxiety thinking about that. That's morbid. Let's go to the good. Let's go. Okay. How are you feeling?
Starting point is 00:03:50 I feel good. Even like this right here, though, I think for context, it's really good. This is still new to you. Like sitting at a mic with cameras talking about our engagement, that's still new to you. How are you feeling with that? Yeah, like I said, this morning when I said it's not like a bad a lot. It's just it would be a lie if you didn't acknowledge that even people who get on Instagram and get a following, unless you go on a reality show, you don't really have this being thrown into it as much as I feel like I kind of just got plopped in once we posted that we were public,
Starting point is 00:04:26 which we talked about obviously for a long time because that was a little bit scary. So none of it is scary anymore. And Wags is adjacent enough to these types of things where I've done interviews. I've done some public speaking. So I'm comfortable. But, yeah, it's when you have, I don't know. quarter of a million people liking the Instagram post. And again, everyone's being so nice. I just for 34, 33 years was in my own little world, in my own little bubble. And now I'm not.
Starting point is 00:04:56 But I think that also comes with a lot of great things that we've talked about with talking about dog rescue and education and awareness. And so yeah, just baby steps and navigating that as it comes. I love it. You're killing it. You're queen. All right. Let's go to Europe. Okay. Let's go before Europe. Okay. So I want everyone to know this is a little bit of part of the plan. Once you and I started dating, it's 100% you.
Starting point is 00:05:23 The second we started, it was 100%. And I think when we sat down, I was like, we were sitting at a wine bar and having pizza. And we were sitting at a pizza joint in Brooklyn. And we had some pizza and some wine. And you were just kind of like, so what do you think? What are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing?
Starting point is 00:05:42 And I just said, I was like, I looked left, I looked right. I was like, now that I've had you come into my life, like, so frequently and you've been here so often, and I'm just loving every little second of it. And I kind of looked up. I was like, I just can't imagine you not being in my life. And I never want to imagine that. And I was like, so that's what we're doing here. And you're like, all right, let's do it. I think that was the trip that I extended
Starting point is 00:06:13 Yeah Like seven different times I was only supposed to be in New York For like three days And then it was like Well do you want to stay another day Do you have to stay another day? You want to stay another day
Starting point is 00:06:24 And I think I was there for like nine days I think that's a good gut check in life When you just keep extending Like even we extend in Lake Como You know what I mean? When you keep extending It's like your gut being like I need to stay longer
Starting point is 00:06:34 Yeah we were in very small spaces And we hadn't traveled together that much Yeah But I didn't want to leave, you know, Mommy leave, so you're kind of like bouncing around in Grimaldi's was, I think, the second to last night before I left. Yeah. And yeah, I mean, you were a little bit more guarded than I was, but I feel like that's when that conversation. Rightfully so. I mean, well, I mean, life. Yeah. Everyone at this age has been burned in some shape or form.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Cut burned and dragged. Yeah. So, yeah, I mean, yeah. But you locked in after that. Locked. dialed. And like, no, but like that was, I mean, I feel like there's, you can go through a relationship and be like, Wendy and did you know? But at that point, I was like, oh, like this, there's no, there's no, there's a hundred percent I am marrying this person. This will be my four. So what I asked, do you remember? Wait, what did you say? I said, I feel like you're trying to figure out, if we're going to get married before we like exclusively date. And you were like, um. I was like, well, I have a lot.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Yeah, actually that is what I'm doing. Yeah. You weren't wrong. I wasn't wrong one. And rightfully so. And I think that, I mean, from that point on, it wasn't even, it was just to like, how are we going to dance to be on the same page? Because you got it in life you dance, right? You move in together.
Starting point is 00:08:00 You learn each other's quirks. You learn what annoys one another. What the good things, the bad things. What makes someone sense of? Like, you just, at that point, it's. dancing. At that point, I'm like, it doesn't matter what dance floor I got to go on. I'm dancing with you the rest of my life. It's actually funny that you just talked about how, like, you kind of stumbled into the thought of that conversation at Grimaldi's. It just like happened.
Starting point is 00:08:21 And you were like, your little light bulbs are going off. But that was the same thing with moving it together. Oh my God. That is the same. You were like, oh, we never talked about that. We were at the airport. Yeah. And you were like, I got the, you were like, I got the Uber. And I was like, I also have to get an Uber because we're not. going to the same place. So we landed, right? We landed. And we're walking, I'll never forget that. We're walking out in Nashville and we're going down the escalator. And as we go the escalator, you're doing something. I'm doing something. It's always like we're tag team in it, right? Like, you're doing this. I'm doing that. And I was just like, hey, I got the Uber. We're good to go.
Starting point is 00:08:53 And you're like, well, I got my Uber. And I was like, and you're like, you know, we don't live together, right? I'm like, wait, you're going, oh. I'm like, I hate that. I don't like that. Yeah. And, that's when we moved it. It was like two weeks later because then we like didn't officially do something, but then I didn't want to leave and feeling a little bit bouncing in between. And then it was like a typical guy in like a cute way. You were like, oh, well, just go get your stuff.
Starting point is 00:09:22 I'm like, well, we didn't formalize that conversation. But it just like the little thought popped into your head. And you were like, yeah, just go take your car and pack your thing. He's like, let's go. Let's go pack your thing. What do we got to do? How do we got to do this? Yeah, move a couple, whatever we got to do.
Starting point is 00:09:37 let's do it. So that leads up to with our Europe trip, which I've been planned for a while, right? Because one of your very good friends got married in Santorini. Miss Mel. Miss Mel. And about a week and a half later, Blake and G are getting married. And so we had this plan for a little bit. And then it was about a month or so ago. And as you know, I'm not the best planner. When it comes to planning, my schedule is just, it's crazy. And I plan a week ahead, maybe a day ahead, maybe an hour ahead. We extended the time here because we're behind. Depends on the situation.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Yes. So it was about, like I knew, like, I thought this summer or fall we would get engaged. Like going, if you, like, coming into winter of this year, I was like, oh, we'll be engaged summer or fall. we were at JTA afterwards and we were having a conversation with David and Ashley and they did that little game where they made us cover our eyes which we filmed this in what February? I don't remember yeah probably but you said
Starting point is 00:10:42 September and I said August and so that's why that just because I knew we were going to get married same thing I wasn't like pressed about it yeah and so it just poofed out of my mind to even consider that we would be getting engaged before then. I think my, yeah, it was probably, probably, like, so we filmed this in February. So I'm thinking maybe more like fallish. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:06 But once I started thinking about our trip, I'm thinking about Europe and I'm starting to, like, I'm starting to research, right? Like I always plan out like a week ahead. So now I'm in the weeds. Yeah. Month away. And I'm like, how do you not? Like, this is perfect.
Starting point is 00:11:21 This is absolutely perfect. So that was, I mean, it was like probably, I don't know, it's probably like a month before that I decided I'm doing this. Like, this is the time. This is a once in a lifetime trip. I know for sure I'm getting engaged to her. I know for sure I'm going to marry her. I know for sure I'm going to die next to you.
Starting point is 00:11:41 It's a no brain. Like, I know that. It's just when at this point. It's just when. So I'm like, all right, let's go. So then it was like full wheels in motion. So the hardest thing, though, is Catherine and I, like you see on our social media, right?
Starting point is 00:11:56 we post a lot together. We post a lot. We're always with each other. Yeah. Like all, like, we really are with each other. We're hanging out. We're with each other. Like, I think there are couples that are like, we're best friends.
Starting point is 00:12:08 And then there's like best friends. Like, we're best friends. Like, we hang out all the time. I leave tomorrow. I'm one of the espies for 24 hours. I'm like, get me on the next flight. I can get back Thursday morning. It's just what we do.
Starting point is 00:12:20 It's like what we do. So planning something this big and your instincts are so tight. By the way, on her instincts, she is, okay, like a kind, like little OCD, baby. In particular. Particular. Okay. Organized. Very unlike me.
Starting point is 00:12:36 And so in the house, everything's organized, everything's put away, boom, boom, boom. And it's the classic, I don't know where anything is. Catherine, where is it? Yeah. So I have to plan this, of course, in a way that's like very meticulous because you're going to see, you're going to go through the drawer. You're going to go through the bag to fix it and clean it and you're going to see something. So I had to have reasons I was in New York, which worked out because I had reasons I was in New York, right, for work stuff or something. But then you'd be like, you're going to go to New York just for that, that, that, and that.
Starting point is 00:13:07 I was like, well, I'd have to like think about reasons while I was going. One trip didn't make a lot of sense. There was one trip, because especially because I'm telling you about how you're tired. You're tired. I'm tired. Yeah, it's been a lot. Like, I want to be smart with my time. And you're like, so you're going up there for this daytime show or something?
Starting point is 00:13:24 It was the news. I'm like, you can go on the news any time. Take a beat. And you were like, no, like, I'll take the opportunity. And I didn't push you on it. But I was like, that man is going to pass away. Yeah. So that's when I went shopping for the ring. Went to a bunch of places in New York. Ended up getting your ring at Kuiat. It's a family-owned jeweler, very well known in New York and in the diamond industry globally. And met with one of the owners. They've been around since 1907. They have an unbelievable reputation in the diamond's face. Listen, if Margot Robbie has a ring from them. Rihanna. I love Mago Robbie. And I was like, listen, let me paint the picture for you.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Classy, timeless, pristine. That's it. That's what I need. And I was like, this is what I'm looking for. It was inspired by Taylor Swift. Shocker. Elongated cushion cut. Also known as an old mine cut, antique cut.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Yeah. All the above. And it's so you, though. Like, especially now at this time, by the way, we've lived together since November, right? Yeah. Around November. And we have moved into a new home together since April. So I'm seeing all your style, how you're picking things.
Starting point is 00:14:40 I'm like, this is 100% it. So I went to a bunch of jewelers. I was like, this is the kind of diamond I'm looking for. Show me your best look. And like, Cuiat was by far a long shot. And all respect to the other diamond jewelers, if listening, because they did a great job. Queat was, it was just, it was just, it was the best. It was, they cut it in-house in New York City.
Starting point is 00:15:02 It's the, the biggest, the best. I mean, go chat, GPT. It's ahead of like Tiffany's. It's like, it's, it's unbelievable. And the confidence, like, and, but the humbleness of this guy is like, I know you want to got it. And so we picked out the diamond. Beautiful diamond.
Starting point is 00:15:17 It's a very, very, very, very beautiful. And we're talking about the setting. Yeah. And the setting, I was like. Like, just keep it everything I just told you. That's why I imagine like gold, but not like overbearing gold, like not too much, but just like enough to just let it. It's keep it classy, timeless.
Starting point is 00:15:40 And so that's where I got the ring. Crazy thing about the ring is it's FedExed here, right? So I get it FedExed to our house. CMA weekend. CMA weekend. Or it's a whole like, you know, you got a sign that you're tracking. all that stuff. And I think I had just left when they came.
Starting point is 00:16:00 You had just left, which is again rare. And I don't, my schedule isn't super predictable. So that just happened to be, which probably bought you. Because I also am the one that opens, I open the packages. I break down the cardboard. I want it into the garage and the recycling. Like, I don't let stuff sit around. So if I saw something come in, that would have been so weird to me if you like
Starting point is 00:16:21 rush to grab it. Yeah. Because you never would do that. Never. So then the other thing, too, is I don't know. You've never told me your ring size. I didn't even know it. I don't know your ring size.
Starting point is 00:16:30 And I am going to, I'm literally, here's what I did for her ring size. I had someone who was an agent at our agency, Megan, shout out. Shout out, Megan. Said Catherine, like, you know, Catherine's a little following, okay, companies want to work with you, whatever. Just fill out this form. It's a form of everything. It's got your shoe size, your sock size, your everything. I mean, like, everything we get to know.
Starting point is 00:16:54 And one of it is ring size. I had her do that like a month before. But I didn't even know my ring size. You didn't know your ring size. I said to chat GPT. I'm 5-8. This is how much I weigh. And I have like long,
Starting point is 00:17:05 creepy little fingers. What do you think my ring size is? And that's what I just guessed. That's what I put into Megan. That's the first time you told me that. Yeah. I thought I told you that in Europe. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Because she put in five. Yeah. So I'm like, if you put in five, it's got to be five. So this guy's making this unreal dime. It's over five carrots. I mean, it's like everything is perfect. It's everything. And I, he goes, what's the ring size?
Starting point is 00:17:26 I said, five, like very confidently. Okay, so this is New York. It gets delivered. I didn't have the opportunity to go back to Plymouth because we're at a tight time frame with our Europe travels and life. And so I facetimed your dad. Talk to your dad. He was so adorable.
Starting point is 00:17:44 He's in Derry King. He's talking to me. He's giving me the, like, I mean, we're just, we're going back and forth on all things life. And you know, I was really cool about when I talked to him. is the stories. He would tell a lot of stories about you. Big story guy. Yeah, but like you was a kid and this and that and it was amazing. And so now I got to bring this freaking ring to Europe and not let you know and make sure that this ring is hidden with someone who's very like OCD about particular organization.
Starting point is 00:18:18 I can't let you see it. I'm freaking out. So I am on full guard. I'm pretty much, I was sleeping with the ring. next to my bed. I was putting it next to you. I was sleepy. I was literally sleep. Anywhere that ring went, I went with that ring. Now, here's the funny part.
Starting point is 00:18:31 CMA Fest is the night before. And we're going to CMA Fest. We're going with Rangler. And then we go to Spotify house. And Catherine's like, we're going to Europe tomorrow for three weeks. But I was like, we,
Starting point is 00:18:44 I was trying, first of all, I wanted to go. Let's be real. I wanted to be out and stuff. But I was also trying to like create an elucing. like there's no way that I was proposing
Starting point is 00:18:56 because you kept saying to me up until Europe you kept saying everyone thinks we're getting engaged everyone thinks we're getting engaged people are asking me and I'm like they don't know I'm clearly I'm trying to dump them like we're not kidding it like no it's going to be false the only thing I'll add to that is I was saying that as like a joke like I did not think we were going to engage remember I literally said the day before we got engaged
Starting point is 00:19:20 should you like post on Instagram You said that That you're not proposing because I felt bad for you That you were getting like obliterated in your comments Propose, propose, propose, marry her And I was like wow like everything we post this whole trip You're gonna be like guilt tripped Because it was just the farthest thing from my mind
Starting point is 00:19:40 Because I had girlfriends asked me that And I was like no this man is like so haphazardly Even like you literally did not pack for Europe Until 2 in the morning And our flight was at like 8 a.m. Yeah. So I was like, no, I know him well enough at this point to know that he has not had six minutes to think about proposing to me. So there's just, if there was $10 million on the table and they said, you just have to go $51.49, yes or no, I'd have been like hard now. Hard no, right? One thing I love about summer is just how easy everything feels.
Starting point is 00:20:12 The days are a little more relaxed. And, you know, I will tell you, just being in Europe, it's so comfortable. And that's why, in preparation for Europe, and even with the majority of my summer apparel, Quince is a great answer. They focus on well-made essentials that naturally become those everyday staples. You can actually live in all season long. So one of the things that served me well over in Europe, stylish but affordable, was there 100% European linen pants and their shirts are just super breathable. Easy to throw it on.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Huge summer upgrade. And it just started at $34.34. Their teas are super soft as well. You can live in those things all day and they got these light cotton sweaters right when it cools down at night. Everything at Quince is 50 to 80% less than similar brands and they work directly with ethical factories and cut out the middlemen. So you're paying for the exceptional quality, not this brand markup. And again, getting ready for Europe was a huge money saver, but knowing I'm going to get quality with a fit that pops. We've talked before about why One Skin really stands out as a skincare company. It's not hyper, just fancy packaging. It's just real science. The founding team are longevity researchers who ask a deceptively simple question. If many visible signs of aging, like wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of elasticity, are driven by so-called zombie cells?
Starting point is 00:22:17 What if you could actually reduce those cells to slow the aging process down, instead of just covering it up? That research led to OS01-1-1-Skin's proprietary peptide. It's the first ingredient proven to switch off those damaged cells, actually slowing skin aging directly at the source. This is a serious science that fits easily into my existing routine. I love One Skin too. It's easy to travel with.
Starting point is 00:22:42 And it's just like, you know, what you put on your skin, honestly, the way I would say is it feels like butter. And with summer here, that matters even more because 80% of visible skin aging starts with sun exposure. So, born from over a decade of longevity research, one skin is helping you unlock your healthiest skin now as you age. And now I am putting the ring, by the way, in a very special place in my Weekender bag. Which I organize for you.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Which you organize all the time. Because there's always like broken electrolytes and stuff. Stuff. There's just stuff. And like, you help me out with that. And so I got a little pocket, a little side pocket and like, that's where it is. But I'm, the weekend, I'm sleeping next to it. I mean, I am on full guard.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Then we go to Europe. And obviously, we're in the plane. Oh, remember the other thing too? As I ordered the thing on my neck. Oh, my gosh. You know, there's a lot of pickpocketers in Europe. So it's like, neck wallet. And you're like, okay, dad, like, you're trium me.
Starting point is 00:23:53 I'm like trying to think about how do I keep this ring in a place that you can't see it? Anyway, so we're flying at all times. I'm parrot. First, like, five days. I'm literally losing my mind. just where's this ring, wears this ring, all time, like waking up for it. Is the ring still there? Is it still there?
Starting point is 00:24:06 Well, then Greece, remember the check-in? Oh, my gosh. The fucking check-in. Okay. So then we get to Greece and we're checking into a place. It's like 3 p.m. We had a red eye, didn't sleep much the night. And we leave our bags there.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Well, we had to go to Mel's... Boat party. The boat party. And so the room was not going to be ready for like an hour and a half, but the shuttle was waiting for us. So it was those little boutique. hotels where there's 12 hotel rooms and there's no lobby. Like, it's just an office and it was all outside. And you were tweaking out. You were like texting the front desk. I meant to ask you,
Starting point is 00:24:44 how did you even get their phone number? And you're like, they haven't texted me back. I'm like, there's like 17 people in that building. I'm pretty sure our stuff is okay. But to your credit, that ring was just chilling. It was chilling at a random grease, St. Serenio Hotel. And you and iron bathing suits. Clearly I can't bring it. I almost brought it. I almost brought it on the boat because I was so paranoid about it. But then I brought... You wouldn't have been able to get away with that. They don't even tip in Europe. And I like brought the
Starting point is 00:25:10 the lady who was cleaning a room. I said, let's just take care of those bags. Okay? And I gave her like 40 bucks or something. Did you tell them that the ring was in there? No. No. No. I would have... My Midwest fell in. I'm like, I got a ring in there. Oh, my God. Hell no. He safeguarded for me.
Starting point is 00:25:27 So the whole time around the boat, I'm sweating bullets. Like, we get back to the room. I'm tearing it up. Okay, it's here. It's here. It's here. So that was Santorini, which, by the way, quick recap, like Santorini. Well, our favorite thing ever was that little restaurant with that little sweet woman who my favorite story from there is we thought we were ordering, I think, a pint of wine, which is between a glass and a bottle, because it was really late. We were just still a little bit hungry after the boat and wanted a late night bite. And we ordered a liter. And we can drink wine, you know, but we can't drink a liter of wine in an hour and a half.
Starting point is 00:26:04 And so they were emptying out water bottles into pouring this wine into the water bottles because they wanted us to not waste it. And the food was amazing. The wedding was incredible. They did such a good job, just taking care of the guests and making it really special for them. And loved Santorini. Santerini. Santerian is beautiful.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Yeah. Amazing. So then we go to Lake Como. And then we're at this Airbnb. be. And by the way, Lacomo is just the most spec. How would you define Lycomo? It was the perfect blend. You know, when you think of the tropics, it's like you've got the beach and you've got palm trees and you've got the sun, but you don't have that rustic feel that you get sometimes with the mountains and just more deep forest and a lake, you know, being from Michigan,
Starting point is 00:26:52 it was like all that squished into one. So you had the nice place to grab a drink, the nice dinner, but it just felt more earthly. And I think it just was so much more overwhelming in a good way. I remember just like, my eyes were like, always like crying a little bit because it was just so spectacularly beautiful. And it showed just the history. And you know me. I like my old little antiques and just little tiny things.
Starting point is 00:27:21 And I felt like that was like Como. You were like at this beautiful beach club, but then looking at a forest and, the lake and then this, you know, trillion-year-old building. And that, to me, it just checked every box. There wasn't a moment I was outside in Lankomo. Like, literally not one moment. And I'm just like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:27:39 Oh, my God. We said, oh, my God, so many times. It was, it was like, we sound like a broken record. Yeah. When we were driving from Milan in the car, yeah. Remember we hit that curb. Well, that literally the curb, but we, like, turned a corner and we both went like,
Starting point is 00:27:52 holy shit. Holy shit. It was just. Yeah. What the hell? This is home for the next few days, and we extend it. So anything you want to get into before we get into day of proposal? No, I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:28:06 Other than, like, I wouldn't have ever thought about Airbnb's in, I don't know, Italy, Lake Como in general. And that little house was so cute. I just loved it. So a travel tip. A travel tip. Look to Airbnb's. It was beautiful. It was amazing.
Starting point is 00:28:22 And then just the food. The food is just, there's just nice. It's so good. You don't feel like, I don't know how to expect. You don't feel like you're eating. No, I felt like I had a six-pack and I was like, I just like, hook down. I was like, why do you have a six-pack? It's like all we're doing is eating pizza and pasta.
Starting point is 00:28:40 I don't know if it's got to be the ingredients, how organic it is, all of it. But also stress, though, remember we were looking at us. That's true. They were saying for like women in particular, like your cortisol levels, like, because I'm always complaining about being bloated. Yeah. And I felt great there. But I was also chilling.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Chill it. Chillin. So we had a couple rainy days, and then we had a couple chill days where we did our own thing. And then my business partner, Evan, was like, let's come up with a plan where I'm planning some stuff, which is typical of Evan. Like, you never know where you're going to be. And like, he might throw something out. You're like, oh, you guys are going here. That, that, that, that, that, that, that.
Starting point is 00:29:12 He's a classic New York. Oh, yeah. So I said, Evan just called me today. He set all this up. We're going to, you know, we're going here. We're doing the boat. And like, remember that time we saw the boat and we saw the photographer where he's going to grab a photographer. there might be, you know, I'm just trying to, I'm trying to come up with anything that would justify this.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Well, I remember also thinking that we don't have any photos in the house. I think you said that too. I said that. And I was like, oh, that would be really cool because we don't have any professional photos taken of us other than like Tommy John. Which, by the way, this goes back to Santorini. Okay. When we were at the wedding and this wedding is in Santorini Greece overlooking, it's over a cliff. It's just beautiful and there's a sunset.
Starting point is 00:29:54 You have this gorgeous rose dress on. And I was like, this wasn't planned, by the way. Yeah. I was like, Catherine, look out like the sunset's incredible. And I take a picture. It's just like silhouette picture. And I'm like, Catherine, this is the most gorgeous picture ever. You look at it.
Starting point is 00:30:07 I'm like, oh, my God, we could frame this. That's when it clicked to me. I was like, wait a second. I can get you to do silhouette pictures at every single stop and be like, it's a thing. We're doing it. And then at the engagement, be like, silhouette picture, get on a neat. Especially since I don't like taking photos. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Like by myself. Like whenever you want me to like take a photo, I'm like, I can't do it. So the only way you could get me to do that by myself is if I wasn't looking. So that was smart of you. Right. Okay. So then we're in, we're in Lake Como. And we're trying, we haven't had any photos.
Starting point is 00:30:40 Other than these silhouette photos, we need some more photos at home. So we put on this day. But it's a bit, it's like, it's like, hey, we're at there being. We're going to go to next hotel. Just to get different scenes. It's a different area. It's minasio. It's different than here.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Manasio. Monashio. What was like that. And so I was like, we're going to just move. And then, like, Evan said a couple things up. We're going to do a boat or whatever. And you're like, cool, let's do it. And then you put on that yellow dress.
Starting point is 00:31:06 And I was like, oh, my God, that's so Italy. I got to match you. So I was trying to, like, downplay what was happening. Did you at all in the morning of think there was potentially a proposal coming? No, because I'm not super particular about what I'm wearing or, like, outfits. I'm usually in sweats for for wags. But I think that it was like, these are photos we're going to have for forever. So I know we both wanted to match each other's vibes.
Starting point is 00:31:27 So it was kind of like, okay, I have this black and white thing. We'll save that for a night that you're wearing black. So each morning you and I would kind of be like, what do you want to wear? And figure out something that at least not clash together in photos. And that yellow dress I had saved for France in my head. Oh, wow. But I liked it the best. And then knowing photos were potential, I was like, well, whatever.
Starting point is 00:31:49 Like France is cool, but like it's not going to be in Boston like a place. potential frame. So that's when you were like, no, I feel like that dress is great. I was like, that just perfect. Well, and the only other white dress I had, I already wore, like, not on purpose. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I mean, it's a white dress in the summer. It's like common. But so it wasn't like, you could have hinted it being like, oh, maybe you should wear that white dress today. So, yeah. And you didn't seem overly stressed out. If anything, you kept saying, we shouldn't rush, you know, like, take your time. And we're always rush. right? Because we're always a little late.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Something's like a little bit, you know, come around the corner. And I haven't taken the time to put makeup on and just take forever to do it. And I remember being so happy that we just got to sit around. I mean, I dried my hair for way too long just to like take time to, yeah, feel, feel pretty. And then, yeah, then we got in our little rental car and headed to that hotel. He headed to the hotel. So we head to the hotel.
Starting point is 00:32:51 And someone had asked, how do you plan a, engagement when you're in Europe. Evan worked with this one travel company called Fiore and they helped him. So I think if you're planning anything in Europe like that, that's like relatively big. Try to work with someone who speaks the language, who knows the areas, who does the stuff. So this hotel I find about two weeks before and I booked it. By the way, we did all our planning, right? No, do not let me in on that. I did not do anything. I do a lot of things for us. The hotels, the drive. I mean, everything, I was like, I got this.
Starting point is 00:33:28 So, which you can always use a planner, and I don't think there's any reason not to use a planner. You can also do it yourself today. Today and the resources out there, you can do it, especially if you're someone that's like, let's be nimble. Let's be flexible. But we get to the, oh, man, here we go. While we're at the hotel or while we're going towards a hotel, I'm working with a travel company and Evan and everyone to be like, make sure there's nothing congratulatory in this room. Like if we go into this room, it's like congratulations, it's blown.
Starting point is 00:33:59 That's the worst part about playing engagement. Your biggest fear is it's going to get blown. You work so hard to just be like, don't screw this up. Like don't screw it up. So we get there and I'm like, are we going to be good to check in? They tell me, yes, you're going to be able to check in. We get there and then I find out we can't check in. Now, that stupid weekender bag, which I've been holding so tight to my chest,
Starting point is 00:34:21 every freaking place from Greece to Italy the guy when we check our, when we go to valet our car, he's like, can I take your bag? I said, no, I rift it back. That was the first time you noticed, like, wait, he's being super protective of this bag. You did it with that guy,
Starting point is 00:34:37 and then when we got to Lake Home with the Airbnb, I tried to get it out of the car. And I just grabbed it from you. Yeah, just like a little... But you didn't clock that at first though, right? No, I thought you had cash in there or like, I don't know, like a watch or something. So I was like, that was a little odd.
Starting point is 00:34:51 but yeah I just thought you had a watch but then I asked you that night I said did you like bring a watch or something like why but what I didn't say why I didn't say the weekend or anything When you asked me did you think there might have been a ring in there? No I just was like what does Was this man a drug mule what's going on?
Starting point is 00:35:08 Just hold his bag so tight All right so then we can't check in but we're all dolled up ready to go on the boat We're all geared up we're ready to go I'm in La La Land because I just wanted to like Yeah we're just having a phone So we go to the back we have a huger Sprits. We meet this family from New York. Everything's good. Photographer, videographer, be there at
Starting point is 00:35:27 3.30. That's when the boat's going to happen. Yeah. I then get a text. It's like 320. And you're like, all right, let's close up. We close up. We're ready to go. I get a text that the videographer is going to be 45 minutes late. 45 minutes. You're going to be 45? How am I supposed? What am I supposed to do? I think that's when you went and got a beer. Then I clocked that you were like nervous because you only do that if you are like needing to take a little bit of edge off. Because like I just had a drink and I went to get a beer which I wouldn't do.
Starting point is 00:35:58 It was the, yeah, like when you are like stressed, I feel like you wouldn't get a cocktail. You would have a beer. And I was like, I mean, I get that we want to go on this boat, but like also look around. It's fine. So I remember just like processing that you just seemed a little bit pressed.
Starting point is 00:36:15 But again, I'm not going, I'm getting engaged. I'm just like, I feel bad that you're like. pressed about the boat. So we're 40 minutes late and this hotel's unbelievable. We'll show you, if you go to YouTube, listen to this and we'll show you on YouTube and on the clips on social media Trane Secrets Podcast. But it's a grand hotel Victoria. It's just gorgeous. And you walk down their walkway and it takes you this unbelievable area where you're overlooking all Lake Como. Belagio's across the way. It's just perfect. And the direction was for the photographer. and the videographer
Starting point is 00:36:52 to hide so that they can get really good photos and get good video. And this is perfect. We know the spot. I know where to stand right before we get on the boat, which is what you thought we were going to do to go get on the boat.
Starting point is 00:37:08 So we're sitting there and we're delayed and we're delayed and we're delayed. And then what happens? The bag phone call? Yeah. So we've obviously talked about it. The bag was clocking to me a little bit. And then we closed out.
Starting point is 00:37:27 I went to the bathroom to like freshen up. And I just was thinking about it and thinking about it. And was like, you know, I didn't see this coming from a million miles away. But I'm like the 1% chance that I'm off. I'm going to call my girl. And I called Alisa from the bathroom. And I was like, this weekender situation is throwing me a little bit. So I'm going to just to one human being right now in this moment, I'm going to be like, there's a small chance I'm getting engaged.
Starting point is 00:37:55 She knows I'm getting engaged. So she texted you right away and was like, lose the weekender. It's tipping her off. Immediately. So Catherine's the bathroom and Elisa text me, lose the weekender. And I give her so much credit because. What percentage did you think you were going to get proposed to at that point? Four.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Oh, wow. Okay. So, low. One to four percent. It was just because I know you so well that it was just like, there is some type of explanation, but unless I, like, weirdly corner you about your bag and question you about it,
Starting point is 00:38:30 which just felt unnecessary. And or if I was right, I didn't want to then ruin it. Yeah. So I'm not going to be like, why are you being a freak about your bag? Now, context stuff, for people listening, people are like, well, why would you,
Starting point is 00:38:42 you guys go to the pool to have a drink? Yeah. It's beautiful villa type style. why would you bring the back? That actually added to it, though, because you're so tight B that you were like, we're going to bring the champagne on the boat. So then this is going to be the boat bag. I was like, we'll throw our chargers there.
Starting point is 00:39:00 We got wine and champagne in there. We'll just have a time on it. And I was like, we'll bring it on the boat. But you were kind of like, in a normal world, you would have been like, shit. We don't have anything to bring the champagne in. And then you would have been like asking the bartender like, hey, you got a bag back there. We're going to bring the champagne in the boat. Unless just for your weekend.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Yeah. So you were like, you were like establishing that it was like the boat bag. And so I was like, okay, it's the boat bag. So then I get out of the bathroom. Elisa has texted you. And you're immediately like, and I'm sure to people listening, they might be like, girl, you're dumb. But you played it off so chill that you were like, this is someone necessary.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Like, why am I carrying around this like big bag? We can save the bottle of wine for later. And then you're like, you don't even drink that much. Are you even going to drink this champagne on the boat? And I was like kind of annoyed because then I feel like the vibe just like shifted so much. Because I'm like, I'm drinking a Hugo Spritz. I got a tan. I feel good.
Starting point is 00:39:58 I like took four hours to get ready today. Not really, but, you know. And then you were like, yeah, I mean, like, I guess if you're going to drink some, I'll bring it. And I remember being like, I mean, if you don't want to bring the champagne, like, okay, like, that's fine. And then you would also text it Evan. I then texted my business bar. So I feel like at this point, I've played picture perfect. There's no way she knows.
Starting point is 00:40:23 So when I got that message that, when I got that message that, I went over the top to be like, we should ditch the bag. And also, time was ticking. So it made something like, you know, we've been waiting for a while. Let's ditch.
Starting point is 00:40:31 We don't even, let's just have a drink here. We'll leave it. Like, you know, played it like that. Then I texted Evan, my business bar article, call me immediately with a business issue. So he calls me immediately, starts, the best part about that story is he's in the middle of the massage. And he had,
Starting point is 00:40:46 say I watch on and he gets eye watch and I go and he knows I'm going to be proposing to you. He thinks at this point I'm probably proposing because it was late. He goes and it says, call me immediately make up a business issue. So he calls me. He's like, dude, you're not going to believe what happened. We got this deal. We got this and that. And this person screwed it up.
Starting point is 00:41:04 So I start reacting to that. I'm like, I can't believe that. You got to be kidding me. Catherine's like, Jason, we're in Italy here. Stop it. Like enough. And I'm like, you know what? this is how bad I was playing into it.
Starting point is 00:41:17 I was like, you know what? Maybe we shouldn't go on the boat. I got to go take care. And you're like, are you choking me? So at that point, after he called and I ditched the bag, did you think there was any chance I was getting... No. But anything, I was just annoyed because it's like we both have jobs that don't really sleep.
Starting point is 00:41:35 But like with wags, there's just... You have dogs. You have volunteers. There's just always stuff going on. So we had kind of agreed like, hey, we're never going to get to do this again. So unless there's really a reason. you need to be on the phone. We're not going to really be on our phones.
Starting point is 00:41:49 And you played, you really risked pissing me off because you were, you, as somebody who is pretty even keeled, you were like so mad. That's so, not a great actor. And the funnier part is that I think Evan thought he was supposed to make a bigger deal of a problem, but he said it, you were going to, you guys were going to lose like $4,000 of commission on a deal. And I was like, I. Like we weren't getting paid on this.
Starting point is 00:42:15 or something. Yeah, I was like, I couldn't care less. Get off of the phone. And you even, you hung up and you're like, man, that's annoying. And I was like, oh my gosh, I need us to move out from this. So I kind of walked ahead of you being like, you seem like you didn't really want to go on the boat. So I texted Alyssa. And there was to Abby and to Jill. And I think Alexa, those were like four people that I was like, little spidey senses were going off. And so I texted Jill and Alisa, I think in that. moment and was like, I feel stupid. Like, my radar was way off. The bag is gone. And then you had linen pants on. So I clearly would have seen a ring box. So I had texted them being like, never mind, just forget about this because I was clearly wrong. And we can't forget that. I ditched, oh my gosh, this is so high risk. I ditched the ring box, put it in the weekender. And then I was going raw dog with the ring. The ring was in my pocket. pocket raw dog right just flopping around flopping around like a fish so now i've like overdone it so much now here's okay i don't even think i've told you this we walk out finally this videographer's here
Starting point is 00:43:30 and you're in the bathroom and we're about to walk out and the biggest thing i said photographer videographer, hiding, non-conspicuous. You're in the bathroom. The whole staff, it felt like when you know what you were on a cruise ship and there's like 100 people lined up for your entrance, it's like they had every person from the hotel right here, this is the way. And it was like a stack. And you're in the bathroom.
Starting point is 00:43:58 I'm like, guys, go. Disburst. That's normal, normal business course. Then you come out. And now at this point you're like, irritated. So you're like, okay, let's get out of this dambo. Now we go down this beautiful area when we're getting towards the end. And now we get towards the end.
Starting point is 00:44:16 And you were like, this is really nice. And I said, look at it over there. And that's the place I was supposed to stand behind. And you're like, wow, that's nice. And I said, we got to get a silhouette in this. And you look at me and you're like, there's a photographer right there. We're going on the boat. We've done eight silhouettes.
Starting point is 00:44:36 This whole year. I'm so sad. I mean, we have hit every silhouette. And by the way, every silhouette. By the way, you're like, this is amazing. Perfect. Doing the whole thing. So, Catherine, at this point, because the photographers and the videographers didn't hide,
Starting point is 00:44:49 the photographer's sitting there, you're like, I'm not doing a silhouette. He's right there. We'll get pictures on the boat. I was like, the best part. I was like, you know what? I want a silhouette first time in Europe. So I'm sitting on the ledge of this area in Lake Como. I got the ring rob dog in my left pocket.
Starting point is 00:45:11 I have, this thing falls in the water, toast, gone. And I'm asking Catherine to take silhouette photos of me to try and calm the energy to get her to eventually take a silhouette. So she's snapping away. We will post these photos. They are insane. It's so bad. And I'm sitting there, this, this is. And I go, I go, babe, these are pretty sick.

Well, I think, listen, obviously your job is to post things online, but you're not to, like, take a picture of me guy. You've literally never asked me that. So then to have that be asked in a moment where I'm, like, one, mildly irritated, but two, the silhouette of, like, a dude, I was like, uh, sure, honey. Like, not irritated, more just, like, confused. I was like, what are you...
Starting point is 00:48:13 This behavior is not you. I'm going to have to tell him later that he's not allowed to pose this. Did you go back to maybe he's proposing now? No, I was just like, why does this man need a photo of himself? Well, your legs are like hanging off the... Your legs are like dangling like a little, like, you know, in your five-year-olds, like their feet, they can't touch the ground.
Starting point is 00:48:34 And I'm like, this is not... At this point I'm stuck, right? The videographer photographer are there. This is that... They gave me an X. You have to stay. If you want a photo here, you have to... You gotta stay in it.
Starting point is 00:48:43 So I'm, I'm panicking. But I wasn't, could you tell us panicking? I'm panicking. No, I mean, I just is like,
Starting point is 00:48:50 this dude just needs this picture. So I like, I mean, I took like so money to. Literally, I don't think I've, I don't think I've ever done that too. You have,
Starting point is 00:48:57 unless you were like taking a picture like a famous version, it was so obvious that I like needed to capture like a moment or something. Like you've never been like, take a pick of me. Never. So I was like, okay.
Starting point is 00:49:06 All right. So then I look at it and I'm like, these are pretty sick. Let me get one. And you're like, okay, fine. So then you do it though. I was like, look left, look right, look straight, and you're working. So we have the photos of her taking these silhouettes of me, me getting them of her.
Starting point is 00:49:23 And that's what I went out of knee. And you had no idea. No, I literally said, can I turn around now? Because it was like a long period of time. Because you probably were like trying to get a few, then I'm sure to like get down on one knee. And no, I mean, you can't fake that reaction. My face looks kind of insane. I look so shocked.
Starting point is 00:49:43 And I think that, yeah, that one little tiny baby moment in the bathroom of thinking it was happening was like, poof gone. So, yeah, that was just. And I think that's where one, I went down on my knees. There's like not even really a picture of me standing. Like, you know, like, some of there's those proper photos of, like, the girl, like, standing there and the guy in one knee, I just, like, went crouched down on the floor with you. And then I didn't look at the ring for so long. I just kept holding your face and wanting to just kind of take in the moment. Because I think that so many women, it's a big deal.
Starting point is 00:50:18 So people sometimes go back to the ring. Like, we never went ring shopping. And the ring, I wasn't like, get me this ring. I was like, I like this cut. Oh, wait. I didn't even go ahead. Go ahead. So in Greece, I was literally showing Jason photos pictures of rings that looked like this.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Because I was like, okay, like he should have some guidance. because you and I both agreed. Like, I, there's so few surprises in life that I was like, I don't want to know what it looks like. I want to like it. It's going to be on my hand every day. So all I said was I wanted gold. But I never said, like, get me in elongated cushion cut. No.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Ever. No. On the podcast here. Right here in this exact table. And it was, I had already had the ring in my hands. And you, and Olivia signed about Taylor Swift's ring. And I said, you can tell me about. the ring. I'm in the market, you know.
Starting point is 00:51:12 And she didn't know, and I was like, hold my beer. It's an elongated cushion cut. It's a longaget and cushion cut. I was like, oh my God, thank God. I texted photos of those rings to a few of my girlfriends being like. Which none of your girlfriend sold me. No, you. Elisa is the only one that knew about it. So. But even it was way before or way after you got the ring. After I got the ring. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:30 So wait, the ring, I want to, that's why I was going to interrupt to tell you this. I asked you when we're at Italy before I proposed. I go, we're at dinner. Because you brought up the ring. You're like, we should talk about what the ring would look like. I'm like, yeah, that's the... I said, what size are you? And you're like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:51:46 I might be a six. I might be a five and a half. I was like, oh, Jesus Christ. Because I chat GPTed that and made it up. I started freaking out again. So then I started taking... I somehow was like, so let me see the... Let's see the size.
Starting point is 00:52:00 I asked to see the rings, okay? Mm-hmm. I was using your rings. You were shoving that one gold ring on your pinky finger. Do you remember me jamming it on my face? I was like, I don't know why he was doing that. So I was using your ring that worked for one finger and trying to put it on mine and it wouldn't fit. Or it would fit.
Starting point is 00:52:20 And then I went to the actual ring and it wouldn't fit and I was freaking out about it. So then I brought in, I brought like a little thing of chapstick just the case when I proposed. Like it wouldn't fit on. You did, but you asked me for it. Like that's how like prepared you were trying to be. You're like, do you have, because I always had like 42 lip like lip glosses or like chapsticks in my purse. And you were like, do you have your aquifer? And so you had that in your pocket because you were like,
Starting point is 00:52:43 this is this baby's going on one way or another. It's going on, maybe. But no, and that's the thing. Like, you weren't, we're sitting down there and I'm talking to you. And one of the things I said, which I already mentioned this podcast, was when I said earlier, when we started dating, I can't imagine another day without you. And I ended up by saying, and now I never will. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:06 Well, back to what I was saying earlier is I think that a lot of women, and envision what that's going to be like because they are like, yeah, we've gone ring shopping. We've talked about this. I know I'm going on this trip. Maybe I don't know this exact moment. But it's happening, which is great. Like, you know, some women have no idea. Then they're like mad that they're like wearing, you know, something that they didn't like.
Starting point is 00:53:28 So we were kind of in that middle ground where I think some people would be like, girl, like, you were in Europe, but you didn't think that he was going to propose. And naturally we're like getting dressed up and doing all these things. So, you know, we looked the part. But I think I couldn't take... I didn't want the moment to end because I hadn't thought about it. I hadn't thought about you being on one knee
Starting point is 00:53:51 or what that would be like because it was just the fall. It was like not happening. So you literally were like, do you want to look at the ring? And I was like, no, yeah, not, yeah. Yeah. What did you think when you saw that ring?
Starting point is 00:54:05 Holy shit. No, I mean, I think that sometimes engagements and proposing to people, like, we've talked about it, like weddings and the ring, all of that, I think sometimes overshadows the point of it all, you know, of like, hi, we're going to die together. That's a big deal and a big commitment. But at the same time, I also think it's not lost on me that there's so much thought that is put into that day and that moment and that choice, like, by the guy. and so knowing like how many conversations which you have very few that I know nothing about that you were like I want this for her I think is really special especially because I didn't pick it
Starting point is 00:54:47 so knowing that I'm like I would have picked this myself you know yeah it's my favorite thing ever did you ask my dad I did my dad's like my best friend and he's I said this to you before it's like he's the opposite of you know get my daughter home by nine kind of guy he's so chill he just once talk about the Beatles and what stakes are good. So because we're in our mid-30s, we also never talked about that. I never was like, hey, you know, you better ask my father. And so there was like a little baby panic in me that was like, oh, my God, like, do my parents know? So those are the two things that I, like, cared about of not knowing and having there be a surprise
Starting point is 00:55:28 and then having you talk to my parents and having them be excited for us. I love it. It was beautiful, special, amazing night. Got to FaceTime everyone. Then took some time for ourselves to digest it all and then shared it last week. So this is beyond exciting. We had some people ask some questions here. Someone asked, what's the most important quality in a forever partner after best friends in chemistry?
Starting point is 00:56:02 I think this kind of goes into best friends, but I think being honest about compatibility. Like if you see the world so differently than somebody else, there's going to be little things, I think, that seep into how you communicate or why you, again, see the world certain ways and in alignment on that. And everyone should be their own individual. But life is already just so hard. So I think that having a partner where you're not trying to like understand a different language, you know, you and I'm. might not see eye to eye on a particular topic or decision, but it's pretty easy to navigate the why behind that. So I think that you should pay attention to compatibility
Starting point is 00:56:49 and how you envision and interpret the world. Yeah, I think this question says best friends in chemistry. That's super important. I think compatibility is huge. I think about this probably weeks and weeks ago. I think this goes for business too, at least for the way I operate. I think the person that you're with, I feel like this statement's fair.
Starting point is 00:57:13 The person that you're with for life, your teammate, through the hardest, like the most challenging circumstances you'll ever go through. Hell or high water. You have to have someone that has a big part of their heart
Starting point is 00:57:28 that's selfless. You have to. And I think selfishness is the demise of everything. I think it's demise of life. I think it's a demise of business. I think it's a demise of relationships. In life, there are times you have to be self. You have to take care of yourself.
Starting point is 00:57:44 But I think you have to find someone that has a heart and brain that can be selfless because a teammate takes selflessness. There are times you are down and out and I will be there no matter what. Everything will be canceled, whatever it is, however I can lend a hand, I'll give you my kidney,
Starting point is 00:58:04 I'll give you half my heart, whatever I got to do. And I think you need like a teammate in life that can be selfless in a lot of circumstances. And I think right now I see with a lot of relationships and looking, you know, humanity. And a lot of areas, right, without getting too specific about things. Just like selfishness is the demise. It's like the ultimate demise. It reminds me of something my therapist said once.
Starting point is 00:58:31 And she said, you know, you should always look at your partner. And if anyone in your life, whether you're doing, know them or it's a stranger came up to you and said, hey, you just remind me so much of Jason. How does that make you feel? So someone said, hey, oh my God, you have so many qualities just like Catherine. You'd be like, awesome. You'd be like, awesome. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:53 So it goes back to, yes, love can take you so far. But if you don't like each other, then, yeah, it's just not going to, it's not going to work. And if somebody described me similarly to you. you, I'd take it as a compliment. Likewise. Yeah. The best compliment. Someone said, how do you not lose hope finding your person until later in life?
Starting point is 00:59:18 I guess I'll jump on this one. I think each chapter in life is a lesson. Each lesson, you can make a decision. Does it shape you to be the best person that you want to be or do you keep repeating your same patterns? And life is just, it's just one big story of a whole lot of chapters. And every chapter of my life, literally since day one, it shaped me to I am today. And when you can't see light at the end of the tunnel, if you keep shaping yourself when you least expect it, the light's coming.
Starting point is 00:59:52 And that's a piece of my side I would give. I think, I mean, it is crazy how we met. It's wild our story. It's just crazy. I've got to go find that mailman who put two dog bones on. my front door. I was sad. I posted about it on social media. I then had your CMO, Elisa, reach out to me saying, come volunteer at Wags and Walks. I walk in the door with John Gurney. I meet you. We become friends. I rescue Teddy. Our friendship turns to a relationship.
Starting point is 01:00:25 And walking in the doors of Wags and Walks forever changed every single aspect of my life. And when you least expected, I think when you continue to just work on yourself, the good things come. And in times of trouble, there's going to be so many, I don't know how to say it other than like distractions and demons that are going to try and pull you in ways that you shouldn't go and just like keep your character, keep your class, keep your integrity, stay your course and it will work out. I think something that also really helped our relationship in terms of is this going to work and is this worth going down this path? It's because we were friends and we didn't meet on hinge, there was no pressure to speak to each other a certain way or impress you.
Starting point is 01:01:15 We've even discussed this. If you didn't adopt Teddy, you could have just left that day and we would have never had a reason to speak again, but because you adopted this dog, yada, yada, yada. And then as we became friends, you're having more free-flowing conversations that are just authentically what you actually need and who you actually are. versus when you're on a date. We didn't go on a date for so long. So when you go meet somebody and you're going to have to date people. So that's just the reality of life. But if you can try to bring it back in, it is not helpful to you to try to impress somebody else. Obviously put in
Starting point is 01:01:53 effort. But I remember playing 21 questions kind of one night at a bar of, all right, let's find that the thing that doesn't work here. And I think because we were both very honest about who we are, it allowed us to connect. I also remember, this is getting pretty personal here, but I remember being in a place where I was like, I'm gravitating so much towards this person. I think this is my person, but I still had wounds I was working on to just make sure, like if I'm taking the jump. Like you said, I feel like you're trying to figure out if you're going to marry me before you date me. And I remember talking to my therapist about it. And the therapist was like, if she's the person for you, and based on what you're telling me, she is,
Starting point is 01:02:39 you let her know exactly what you just told me, and that you just need a little bit of time to keep navigating what you're going through. I promise you that person will hear you, understand you, and be there for you, even if it's just as a friend. That's why Daisies was so funny when it came out because we were, like seeing each other casually here and there. But the line in the song was, if you need time, honey, I get it, I get it, I get it. And so when that song came out, I'm really like sending that to you.
Starting point is 01:03:13 But yeah, I agree with all those things. Yeah. I also want to give you kudos too that like, I think a lot of people don't see certain things online, right? So they see us hard launching and then you being in love with me and like all these things. But you are like the definition of the office. opposite of a guy who love bombs because you wouldn't say the thing I wanted you to say,
Starting point is 01:03:36 but you gave me your time. We would go to coffee and I'd be like, are we friends? What is going on here? And we talked about just off the wall shit. I mean, everything under the sun, but it wasn't like, you know, I wasn't sending you like selfies being like, hey, I look cute today. It was, there was like an underlying. flortation as we were dating, but not like in it in it. But yeah, you wouldn't say the thing.
Starting point is 01:04:09 I think a lot of guys are like, you're amazing. I can't believe you're single. You know, like that kind of stuff. You didn't, you would not give me any of that in the beginning, but you gave me your time and attention. And that was annoying at times. But I was like, there is something very intentional with this. Yeah. And I think that, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's beautiful. Perfectly said. And, yeah. I mean, I just can't wait.
Starting point is 01:04:39 People are asking what's next. Oh, yeah. They're asking destination wedding, wedding in the States. What does it look like? I can't believe we're running short on time here. But where did you say your head's at? I think we have it narrowed down to three spots. Three spots?
Starting point is 01:04:58 Which would be out of the states, Cabot is like the number one out of state location. And then Nashville and Michigan. Yeah. Those are, we're brainstorming now. We're trying to come up with, obviously, like, Buffalo hometown. But I think I live in Nashville, maybe we'll do it here. Maybe we'll do it where you're from.
Starting point is 01:05:19 Or maybe we'll do it somewhere out of the country. And right now, we don't want to go to Europe. Definitely don't want to do that. No, we want to be considered of my sister as four kids, like, you know, some older people and making it accessible to some of the family members we need there. Yeah, it's a combo of wanting your dream wedding, but also making sure that your dream wedding stays true to what it is. And I think for both of us, it's having all the people that have made us who we are there.
Starting point is 01:05:44 Yeah, I'm just like trying to marry you. I don't even like. Like, I want a beautiful wedding. I want it to feel like us. But that's what I said earlier. I don't want to get, like, lost in the sauce of some of the things that I just don't know will be important a month after you get married, you know, and I don't, we have enough stress in our lives. We have very busy, important jobs, and I don't need to save the date to lose sleep
Starting point is 01:06:12 over it. Yeah, I agree. The last question I got for you that was asked, do you want kids? I want kids with you. I actually really want to say this because I think there's a lot of women that would relate. I never was the type of woman that was like, I am. born to be a mother. You are, by the way, but. But I, but I never felt that way. I always knew I would be a good mom. I will take care of a child, but I didn't think about it much when I was younger. And then as I got older, I was like, ew, no, I'm good. I met you and I said I didn't want kids. And I think that that shows the importance of a partner in your life and something I talked about a lot in therapy and I want your babies. If I, if something happened to you or I never met you, I would have
Starting point is 01:07:02 never pursued having a child on my own. I have some girlfriends, one even recently, this girl that I just adore, she had a baby by herself. And I'm like, I cannot imagine, but you do you. My sister having four kids. She was Dawn, my sister-in-law, it was like, that is a person who is just born to be a mother. Every little fiber of her being. I would have never gone out of my way to do that. And I think that freaks some women out because it's not talked about enough. I think a lot of people feel that way. And so, yeah, we will have kids, all things, you know, willing. And, yeah, I felt like I met the love of my life and wanted to have a partner that I could
Starting point is 01:07:46 parent well with. And, yeah, seeing a little scraggly little kid running around. I'm like, yeah, hell yeah, I'll do that with you. With you. Maybe a couple. Maybe a couple. Two max. Two max.
Starting point is 01:08:01 All right. Cheers. Well, our time's ticking. I love you so much. Love you. Cannot wait for what 2027 will bring. And you're the most special person I've ever met my life. You are an actual living angel.
