Hey, welcome back to another episode of the Trash Taste Podcast.
I'm your host for today, Joey, and I'm with the boys, Connor and Gone, as usual, and
rejoice webs. We're talking about anime today.
And we're also bringing you back, kind of not bringing back, we're reinventing an older
formula.
We're basically just making our own awards show, you know, because...
Oh, is that how it is?
Because we've got certain categories.
Ah.
And we, this is our personal, this is our personal awards.
Personal anime awards.
Personal anime awards.
Yes.
Our producer has found this website where it's not,
not a three by three, it's a five by three. We have 15 categories and we filled it in, we
each filled it in with our personal choices. It could be anything like, you know, best soundtrack,
favorite protagonist, you know, anime that you connected with the most and stuff like that.
We have all sorts of different categories. We're going to go through each of our personal
picks and then discuss our picks, basically. Yeah. What else is there to say? That is pretty much
it, Joey. Are you ready?
I'm ready.
Was it hard for you guys to pick?
No, no, not at all.
Really?
It was hard to me.
Because when we do these things, I realize, like, the discussion is more important than
what I put.
Because when you initially put it, you're like, ah, what is truly my most favorite
or who's really my favorite protagonist?
It's like, nobody cares, bro.
Put something down so we can talk about it.
Okay.
So I put something, I do really, I do believe in what I picked, but I think, like, I don't
try to, I don't worry about it too much.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, I definitely had multiple picks for some categories, and I just kind of went with
the one I thought of it.
Because you asked me on a different day and you'll get different answers.
Oh, 100%.
So I think, like, it's very hard.
So take this with a grain of salt.
You know, if you met us in person and asked us these things, it's probably going to be different.
Use this maybe as just like a list of trash taste recommendations more than any, like, definitive answer.
Yeah, it's weird because for a stream, I remade my three by three.
And I was like, damn, my taste has changed a lot.
Yeah, you know, as I've involved with a person.
There's recancy bias as well, you know, in the mix.
Yeah.
All right.
Let's go through them.
One at a time.
We're going to go through each category
and then we'll see what each of our picks are
and then kind of discusses from there.
So, Moondon, don't show the entire, like, grid all I once.
Yeah.
We're just going to go through these one by one.
All right.
The first category, which I thought we were doing
a different category.
So I put down, I'm just going to say,
my favorite genre.
Okay.
But you boys put your favorite anime, correct?
One of, yeah, I guess.
I mean, if it was favorite anime,
I wouldn't know what to pick anyway.
No, no.
Well, that's, yeah, I mean, I was like, I don't, I don't really have a favorite genre.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm kind of the same.
That's harder for me.
That's, I think that's harder for me as well.
That's easy for me.
Oh, really?
Isakai.
Slop?
Not, not necessarily.
Not necessarily.
Power scaling, romance.
Yeah, let's take a guess.
Let's take a guess before we see Garns.
Favorite genre?
Incest.
What?
That's a favorite tie.
Well, that can be his own tie.
I'm gonna guess it's something like, it's gotta be like a some fantasy.
I think romance for Garn.
No, I think it's fantasy.
What did you, wait, why do you scorn, bro?
Romance is not his favorite.
Romance, but like disastrous romance.
Okay.
Oh, well.
Soap opera romance.
Well, they're, okay.
Tell a novella type of.
Okay, yeah.
I mean, let's, let's go with our pigs then, I guess.
All right, let's check it out then.
Yeah.
So we'll look at Garns first, I guess.
First up, uh,
Vesri genre? Yes, okay. Put Mishogatense.
Okay, so it's not necessarily Isakai.
All right. I did put fantasy as my favorite genre. Oh, we put the same for some things.
Okay. Oh, did we? Oh, hell yeah. A couple of things. Oh, yeah. One of them is the same for me.
Okay, okay, okay. Well, that just obviously means they goaded, right? But favorite genre, I mean, uh, who doesn't love a little bit of fantasy, right? Yeah. And I, I feel like we're in a fantasy golden age right now. So I'm, I'm fucking,
loving modern anime. I'm eating good. And obviously I put Mishoka Tensei, which I think is of,
it's hard to pick like a favorite show right now. But I think Mishogatensei encapsulates what
I love about fantasy, which is just getting totally lost in a whole different world. Doesn't necessarily
mean Isakai, but I just love whenever fantasy does like fantastic world building and just
feeling like you're truly lost in another place.
And I think I've come to realize, I mean, I didn't come to realize, I always knew this, but I just love a bit of escapism.
I've always loved the bit of escapism.
And I feel like one of the reason fantasy is taken over modern anime is because everyone's craving a little bit of an escapism in the modern day, you know.
And that's what again are Rabucci say again is like no one's looking for the poison.
They're looking for the antidote.
Yeah, I mean, okay, here's my theory.
In some of like your favorite shows or your favorite series, I think subconscious,
you're always looking for something you're missing in your life.
Right?
I feel like you gravitate towards shows where you get to experience something
that you don't always get to experience.
It's something that you are missing.
I feel like romance was my favorite genre when I wasn't married, when I was single.
You know, I'm not necessarily saying that just because you're in a, just because you've already
completed the category.
Yeah, you have.
What is it left to discover?
Like, I'm not necessarily.
saying that anyone who's watching who is married or in a relationship, they, they
automatically don't like romance anymore. But I feel like for me personally, like, it just,
it just hits, it doesn't hit the same anymore. Yeah. Yeah. Because there's a, because there's a level
of like, especially as, as a single guy, there's a, there's a level of you, like, wanting to be
the protagonist or you like, you know, connecting yourself with maybe one of the characters who's in,
like, a particular romantic situation where you're like, ah, fuck, you know, I had something similar
like that as well. So I understand how this character is acting, maybe if it seems like completely
out of the blue or something like that. Yeah. So I get, yeah, I mean, I'm kind of the same. Like,
I loved romance when I was a teenager. Yeah. But now I'm kind of just like, I'm very picky and
choosy with my romance. Yeah. Like, I still like romance. I still appreciate them. But I definitely
will say they hit a lot less, even with like the good ones. Yes. They hit a lot less. Um,
and I think as like, I think the one thing that has always remained in me is, I, I,
I've always just loved this feeling of being completely enveloped in a whole different world.
And I think I've always liked fantasy.
And now that we're living in a golden age, that is like, we have a lot of slop.
You know, we, we, there is a lot of slop out there, especially in the fantasy genre.
But a well-written one, something that does something unique and interesting with this world,
doesn't even necessarily have to do something totally original in this world building,
but just a new world that is crafted well.
I love that shit.
And that's probably my favorite genre.
No, I 100% agree.
I mean, if you had to, because like you and I picked favorite anime instead of favorite genre,
what would you say is your favorite genre?
If you had to pick one.
Favorite genre?
Like the one that you, like, gravitate to the most.
Because for me personally, I gravitate to a lot of, like, human drama, psychological.
I love a good thriller.
Yeah, love a good thriller.
Mm-hmm.
You know.
But, like, I guess Orb is a drama, but I'd say Orb's bit of a thriller.
It's a bit of everything.
It's a bit of everything.
It's not something for everyone.
Yeah.
Little something of everyone.
Anyone can enjoy it.
Yeah.
So yeah, I'd probably say like a thriller mystery.
I do enjoy a good mystery.
Yeah.
I think it's probably hard to get done right.
Yes.
It's just hard to do a good mystery.
Yeah, definitely.
Especially when you're on that,
that week by week manga schedule often times.
It's hard to have that runway.
Yeah, one that sticks with you, like,
till the very end, you know.
Yeah.
What did you put for your favorite anime?
Let's find it.
What did Joey put?
My favorite, I mean, it's so hard to be.
This is just one of my favorites.
But I mean, it's no one's surprise.
I put fully coolly.
Fully.
Wow, there's already one category.
We all put the same thing for it.
I'm gonna guess, I think I know which one it is.
I think I know which one it is.
But yeah, I mean, fuck, it's so, like,
because I feel like as, you know, content creators
or YouTube or whatever who delve into anime,
I feel like this is the first question we get asked,
asked all the fucking time. It's like, what's your favorite? Like, if you have to pick,
what's your favorite? And every single time, I'm just like,
have a confession. I've never watched fully, coley. You never watched fully coolly?
You never watched fully calling. Damn, bro. I mean, it's only six episodes. Yeah.
A lot, isn't it? I don't know. It's, it's never really appealed to me the style and the,
that's fair. What do you mean the style? I don't know. It reminds me of like a 2008,
kind of like commercial with a pizza boy going, what's up, bros?
And that kind of energy I'm not really looking for.
Right. I mean, it's very like, I mean, it's obviously, it was made in the 2000s.
It's very white two K-coded, but...
I mean, you say that, but I feel like a lot of Gen Z people, a lot of them have, like,
gravitated towards Foodie Kooley, you know, currently.
And I feel like, you probably wouldn't like it because it just really encapsulates,
not so much in the story, but just the overall, like, vibe of it all.
it's so well, like, encapsulating
just being lost in your adolescence,
just feeling, like, totally confused.
Yeah.
And it's like, you look at it by, like, a play-by-play,
and it's just like, this is all, like,
random bullshit, go, what is going on?
Yeah.
But the, it just, I, it's rare to find a series
that encapsulates that feeling so fucking well.
Yeah, and I feel like with Fully Cully especially,
I mean, you know, this was also my contender
for, like, best soundtrack, for instance.
but like I think with Fully Calli for me
I think I watched it at that perfect time of
as Gant said when I kind of was
you know early teenager
didn't know what the fuck I was doing with my life
you know I had like all these like identity issues
and stuff like that too so it's like
something about it just like of one it was
even like now it is incredibly unique
visually storytelling everything like that
but also like the the final lines
when you look past all of the crazy
shenanigans that happened visually speaking.
It, yeah, it kind of,
it spoke to me in a way that I don't think any other
anime has spoken to. And it is just one of those shows
that I just like kind of constantly think about.
I should watch it. It's incredible. Can I enjoy it now as a 30 year old?
I think you can. I mean, the soundtrack is amazing.
It has such a unique, like I said, like the entire show, it's just so
unique. Yeah. There's not really a show like it, I feel. And because they
tried to do it with the sequels. Yeah. And the sequels were disappointing to see the least,
just because it just didn't capture that soul that the original had. Yeah. And I think every
fully-coly fan can agree with me on that statement. Yeah, it's, and I think it's such a rarity
just to see such a short series have such a big impact. Yeah. And the fact, yeah, the fact that
they pulled off more of a stronger messaging and more of an identity in six episodes than
some anime takes seasons to do is, I think, telling.
I mean, I still hear about it all the time.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
That's pretty impressive.
I think it's an anime that I don't think we'll ever get again,
just in the way that it was written
in the way that it's like presented.
That's the video essay title right there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We don't know how to make it anymore.
We don't know how to make it.
It's a lost art.
And the sequels prove it.
Like they tried and it just,
it just didn't capture that specialness
that the original had.
It's like a 2000 Eurovision vibe.
We'll never get it again.
You never get it again.
We'll never get it again.
I can capture that energy again.
Nah, nah.
You're a beat will never be the same.
Yeah, it's like life before the internet, you know.
We'll never, we'll never feel that again.
I put ping pong the animation for mine.
Oh, that is a great contender as well.
Um, so don't laugh at one of them.
Still envelops your minds?
Yeah.
I don't look at my, don't look at the rest of my shit.
No, no, no, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm not looking.
I'm not looking.
I couldn't help, but, but.
look. Hey, hey, hey, don't look. Hey, we'll talk about it later. Don't fucking look, Joey.
We'll talk about it later. Yeah, people in the animation is, I love that fucking show so much. It's so
good. There's just something, you know, that, that meme of that guy going, yeah, fucking me.
Yeah. You know, like, I felt like it spoke to me at my core as, and so I really think about it a lot.
And how unforgiving it was in the way that it handled the material. I really enjoyed that it looked at it
raw and it was honest and I've never felt an anime kind of dissect the human psyche in such a
fun way. It felt like the whole thing is calling you out on your bullshit the entire time.
Yeah. Because we always, everyone has this experience of trying to get good at something versus
also being good at the start and then, you know, getting lazy. Yeah. I think everyone's felt both sides
of those coins. Yeah. And we make so many reasons in our head to justify and I think it's so beautiful the way
that it approaches the story
and how it tells that frustration
through two friendships. I really love it
and I think it's really stuck with me. Yeah.
Yeah. Despite its fucking weird-ass art style,
which I will admit it's hard to...
I love the art style. I mean, it's like avant-garde.
You're like, looking at it, you're like, this is fucking weird.
Because the artist also did, um,
TechCon Kinkrete as well, which is like another great fucking show.
But yeah, it's something about it.
But it adds to it. Like the, the ugliness...
That and the U-Ster directing is like perfect match.
I mean, it fits because, you know, like the, I think the human emotions are inherently kind of ugly in a lot of senses, right?
Yeah.
I think like the artwork really helps kind of, there's no sugar-coating any aspect of this.
No.
You know, there's no, there's no relief in any of the story.
It's always just like hitting you, hitting you, hitting you.
I really, really love that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And it leaves you feeling, you know, you feel this kind of void, but also kind of excitement at what could be.
I really enjoy that.
I love the show.
Where do you think, like, on the, on the rankings, where do you think like 100 meters, like, compares to that?
Because I got a very similar feeling to 100 meters.
I don't think it's as good as ping pong.
Yeah, I don't think it hits the same way as ping pong because it's...
It's a movie.
It's a movie, first of all.
And also, I think there's just something unique about, not what unique, sorry, so relatable about, they'll literally just school kids.
Yeah.
And to these kids, it feels like everything.
we good at fucking ping pong.
Yeah.
You know, and that talent of, and it's such an adult thing to think, what if, what if I
continued that hobby that I showed potential in?
What if I actually took it seriously?
What if I, you know, really followed through on the potential I had?
And I think that's a thing where it's, whereas 100 meters is like kind of almost the
opposite in a sense of like, I've proven myself, but what is that?
Like, what does that mean?
Yeah.
Like, I've given my all.
and what is that?
What does that worth?
What does that mean for my life?
I feel like in a very...
I love both
because 100 meters is like
ping pong if we followed him for 10 years
if he felt like lost
about what ping pong meant to him.
But instead it's like
these,
this powerful moment in your life
where you have to decide
so many things at once.
You have to make so many life choices
that will have long lasting ramifications
and you don't know.
I don't know.
But I'm passionate about this thing.
Why am I not good?
Why am I not, you know, why is it not translating?
I swear I'm trying.
Like, there's so much internal, you know, sometimes it is you.
Sometimes you, it's not talent.
Sometimes you just aren't learning the right way.
Why is that?
You know, I love this message.
It's the dilemma of, you know, high passion doesn't always result in, you know, high results.
Yeah, 100 meters is more.
I always felt like when watching it.
I was like, it's like purpose.
Like you do something because you're good at it.
Yeah.
And then one day you're like, what?
like, what am I doing this for?
Yeah.
I don't know what my motivation is.
Right, right.
And I think that's also a such a human and powerful message too.
Yeah.
I think everyone at some point in their life will experience.
So I think that movie is also so beautiful in ZonRoy.
But I personally prefer the story and the way it tackles it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
This back to school season, spend less on your kids with Amazon.
Hi, I'm Laura Clary, mom, overthinker,
and someone who has a complicated relationship.
with the back-to-school supply list. Can we just be honest for a second? Kids are expensive.
Last year, I went all out on my daughter's school supplies, color-coded folders, the fancy pencil case,
gel pens and 17 colors she absolutely needed. By October, she had one pencil left. One. I don't know what
happened to the rest, and honestly, neither does she. Amazon has everything your kids need for back-to-school
at prices that won't make you want to cry in the school supply aisle. Great prices, huge selection.
and when half of it goes missing by October,
at least you didn't break the bank.
So remember, with Amazon's low back-to-school prices,
just spend less on your kids
because every dollar you don't spend on them
is a dollar you haven't spent on them.
That was a good start.
We're warmed up.
Warmed up.
We are warmed up.
All right, next category is best story.
Since Connors is up there,
you want to just talk about yours.
Yeah, I wrote to Vinland Saga.
I did think about Orb.
They've got these things.
And also with Binlan Saga,
I was like, does it count if I'm really only talking about the first two seasons?
Because the other story kind of, you know, season three, if there every will be,
you know, it's good.
I don't think it's as strong as specifically season two.
I think.
Vidence saga?
You're talking about the manga?
Yeah, the manga, sorry.
Like where the manga continues on.
You think it's not as strong?
The arc directly after.
It's been a while since I've read the arc directly after, but I have not read the arc directly
after yet.
I thought it was still good.
It was good.
I just don't think it like, like, if the anime eventually comes out,
I don't think it'll hit as hard as the moments in season two.
I mean, season two, everyone thought people wouldn't like it
because it was like a much slower.
People are fucking dumb.
Like, it's just farming soon.
People are dumb because they think that like fans don't want,
like emotionally impactful things.
And I'd argue it'd perfectly set the stage for what season two was going to be.
Yeah.
This, if it was just season two that came out, it wouldn't hit.
It was because we had to sit through the arc of Thorfin going through this horrible childhood
and also giving us kind of what we wanted, which was an action show.
Cool moments.
He's fighting this fucking giant.
He's killing all these people.
He's the fucking goat with these daggers.
It's so fucking sick.
And then it's like, now we're going to farm.
We're going to till the land.
And you're like, wait, what?
You know, and I think it's almost the whiplash that makes it hit so hard.
Yeah.
Because we see why Thorfin has these thoughts.
instead of it being just some kind of like flashback,
which I feel like a lot of shows do that,
and it doesn't hit the same.
And I think just from the,
I think as well, it's a beautiful story,
but also the impact that it's had on,
I think younger guys is really awesome.
Like I think people just kind of,
at a time of fucking MMA,
fucking guys fighting all the time,
fucking let's do this, a testosterone.
It's kind of sick to have something so impactful
that's like, hey man, we don't have to fight.
Yeah, we can be chill about it.
And everyone who watches it walks away,
even if they, like, don't think it's the greatest show,
they felt something. Yeah. And it's really hard to get
that with a lot of animas where we... 100%.
We don't often walk away feeling something.
Sometimes we watch shows just to form an opinion.
Sometimes we watch things to say in the conversation
as we go and to watch the fun fight scenes or animation.
But it's not often you walk away from a show,
really thinking like, damn,
with a fucking cow in the field.
Bam. Damn. Damn.
Man.
Pablo Escobar standing in other places memes.
Yes.
You're like, you know, you think about it and you're like,
maybe I should tell the land.
My ancestors will appreciate it.
And they've got the greatest Welshman.
So what do you think is the better season?
Season one or season two?
Two. Two.
You think two is the best thing?
100%.
Even without Ascalade in there?
Ascalade's there.
He's still caught to the flashbacks to the moments where,
I guess so.
Forfin is lost or a bit confused.
It's Ascalade.
that's like, bro, look at me down here.
Don't do it, brother.
Don't fucking do it.
Don't be me.
But that was also beautiful too, because Ascalad, who is this such a genius maniacal guy,
who also had this heart, you know, he didn't find any other way other than violence.
He never found a way to say no.
Yeah.
To him, it was the only way.
Even for this absolutely smart, genius guy who could manipulate all these people, command
these armies, he still was like, damn, I guess I never figured out how not to fight.
Yeah.
You know?
God, the ending of season one was so fucking.
Which is awesome, right?
And that dichotomy of how Ascalade's story ends is so Ascalade and so epic, which also
makes you think like, fuck, they're so fucking cool.
He's also a horrible guy, but he's so fucking cool.
Which then that whiplash instantly into pacifist thought then is awesome.
Because you're like, you're like, damn, this is literally like,
the two paths.
And we've already seen the path that Thorthome
was going to take play out before us.
It's epic, it's grandiose.
He did change, but at what cost?
Yeah.
I love it.
I love the story so much.
I like it's so awesome and, oh, it's epic.
I mean, it's fucking villain saga.
It's goaded for a reason.
Yeah.
It's hard to hate.
I really didn't want to pick a modern show,
but I was like, this one is just so fucking.
Yeah, it's fucking awesome.
If I lose it all.
No, I'm joking.
All right, Joey.
What did you pick for best story?
I mean, fuck, it's so hard because anime has so many great stories,
but I pick Slamdong in a lot of the same.
And I'm kind of going to be parodying a lot of what Connor said about ping pong
because I feel like Slamdunk is amazing because of that,
where it's like, yes, it is a sports anime about basketball,
but the reason you stick around with it
and the reason why so many people consider one of the greatest sports anime ever made
was because of the characters and how they do,
deal with their individual issues, you know, like, you know, Hanamichi is like, you know, the main
character is like, you know, he's like fucking goaded of basketball, or at least he thinks he is,
to impress this girl. And he gets a reality check in a really hard way, not from an opposing
team, but from his own teammates. Like, it's this act of friendly rivalry that pushes him even
further and makes him reflect on himself, not just as a basketball player, but also.
as just a team player, which he never was.
He was always like, you know, the delinquent that was always, you know, by himself and thought
he was like the goat.
Blue Lock material.
Yeah, Blue, yeah.
It's, yeah.
Slamtonged ranc so Blue Lock and Walk, basically.
And then, you know, um.
But, you know, like, um, like, uh, Mitsuy, for example, he's like one of my favorite
characters.
Um, you know, he has this like, incredible, like, incredible, have you guys read or watched
slam dunk at all? Yeah, I've watched it.
I got it. Yeah. So like Mitsui, for example,
like his backstory is one of my favorite
stories of any, like, character and
any, like, character and anime ever, and just like
his redemption arc of wanting to continue
playing basketball, even through
all of that happened in his
backstory. And no matter how much he
tries to, like, push that
passion away from himself.
And the fact that he, you know,
was notified by other people, I guess
realized by other people and, you know,
his coach at the time, um,
that his true passion and his true love is in this sport.
And it's for the dumbest reasons,
but he himself views it as such an importance in his life.
And he views it as his purpose.
And he views it as the only way that he can get out of this rot.
It's just like, when I read that shit when I was like 15, 16,
I was like, I want to play basketball now.
Like, this is fucking goaded.
Can you play basketball?
I did.
I did ball a little.
I cannot ball now to save my life.
But I did start playing basketball.
because of slamdown.
Yeah, let's, let's test it now, Joey.
Yeah, I'm ass now.
Trash taste basketball special?
Trash taste basketball special.
I'll be ass at it.
But, you know, like, it's one of the first, it was one of the first sports manga that made
me kind of fall into this rabbit hole of sports manga that, you know, introduces the
sport, but the sport isn't the main focus.
It's the characters and the story of the characters.
That's the main focus.
And, you know, the fact that, like, I've read this manga.
dozens of times and every single time
I find new little like nuances
that in a way puts into the characters
and it's just yeah it's like you know
it's no surprise that when slam dunk
came out in Japan it caused a
fucking cultural phenomenon and everyone
just started playing basketball because it was like
it's not only just sick
but also just you know it was I feel like
it was maybe it wasn't the first manga
to do it but it was definitely like the strongest
contender of showing the real
human emotion and the human
drama behind the sport
And yeah, it's, I don't know, personally, it's just kind of stuck with me forever.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, nice.
We may need to speed up a little bit.
I realize we're, like, 20 minutes in?
Oh, okay.
Oh, okay.
But that's fine.
I mean, some of the other categories will be, like, quicker.
All right, what did you put for the best story?
I mean, I put orb.
I've already glazed orb.
Yeah, so much.
That was a contender for sure.
I mean, what more can I say about all of that happened?
We're an old family.
We're an old family here.
We're an orb positive family.
I will say, like, the one thing I've realized,
the more, you know, it's been a year since Orb came out.
And I've had anime and manga
literally, like, changed the way I've thought
as I was growing up.
And for the longest time, I've never had a piece of media
be like, you know, actively change the way I think.
Until I watched Orb.
Orb is like my, you know,
the adult version of my Evangelion, you know,
where I think outside of just everything
we've already mentioned about regarding character,
writing, you know, twist and turns, whatever.
I think the reason Orb has left such a deep impact in me
is just because of how deeply the themes fit in today's climate.
Like, the thing that I fucking love about Orb is every protagonist,
it's about the pursuit of truth, right?
And every protagonist is not about, it's not about who is right.
It's about being willing to be wrong, right?
And I think that core message with all the protagonists is just,
so fucking important in this modern, like, day and age,
and every time I see something that, like, fucking gets me angry on social media
or makes me question it.
I always think about, I always think about what happened in Orb, right?
And, like, whenever I get into an argument, you know, it's, it's all about, okay,
how do I bet myself as a person?
Well, it's not always about winning the argument.
It's about kind of, like, conceding and maybe finding a middle ground and listening to
someone who you maybe not agree with.
but the point is it's still worth listening to them
and is genuinely changed the way I
approach life and there are a few shows in here
that I do think are life changing for me
and Orb is definitely up there in my adult life
yeah, fuck yeah, dude.
We all agree.
Yeah, hell, hell, hell, hell, hell, hell, hell,
you're talking about this show.
Every time.
Yeah.
Whenever you talk about Orb, I get excited.
Oh, man.
It's so good.
I wish everyone would watch it.
I wish it was mandatory.
I wish it was as well.
You know, it just can't be an anime fan
unless you watch old.
Bring that back.
Which I guess brings us to favorite art style, which was hard.
Dude, I'm not going to lie, this was my second contender.
This is like Citizen Kane of animation.
It was this.
It was this dead leaves and the one I ended up putting in.
Okay.
You chose Red Line.
We should say, so the favorite art style, I can't put Red Line.
My favorite art style is Red Line.
She's the last animated big, big budget movie that was all hand-drawing.
Was it?
I think maybe.
I'm not sure if...
It's all hand-animated.
I do know that it took like eight years to make.
It's all, I believe all hand-animated.
Yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely.
And one more needs to be said, like the arse...
It's so sick.
I've never gotten a hard on watching like an engine turn on.
I know, right?
But in this movie, you're like...
It's just like, fuck yeah.
I mean...
Yeah, let that piston go, girl.
Yeah.
I mean, it's, I really, really want to watch this in theaters.
I feel sad.
70mm, I know.
Oh my God, the way it was intended.
Just like a fucking giant screen would be so fucking sick.
I think my favorite-
We should rent a movie theater.
Just to watch Redline.
I'm sure we can, we can figure it out.
Yeah.
How do we do that?
I think my favorite moments in Red Line is when it comes to the art is when like,
anytime a character goes full throttle and the characters just like gets stretched
out.
My God.
It's just, it's the, it's the coolest way to show pure speed.
Yeah.
I mean, this is like such a unique feeling to watch this film because you could tell that
every single frame was so painstakingly made.
Did you guys, did you guys know that they, like, I believe there was a pilot film, right?
Or for Red Line.
And it still looks fucking sick.
They made a pilot film that still looks fucking sick with a unique art style.
And the director was like, nah, let's fucking scrap that.
and we can refine it even more.
Oh my God.
Which is like fucking crazy, man.
Hell, yeah.
And we got this final result,
which I think is like such a anomaly
in the anime industry.
I don't know if we'll ever see something like this again
where this was a passion project that
I don't believe this made like a lot of money.
No.
I don't believe.
I know very few people who watched it.
It was technically a flop.
Yeah.
I knew it obviously is a cult following,
but I believe it didn't do well.
Yeah.
It's like, it's one of those like,
if you know, you know, kind of anime.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Which is crazy because it's like,
you watch this now,
you watch any scene from this now,
and it's insane to think that it came out when it did.
The type of shit that gets post,
like a 10 second clip gets posted Twitter
and be like, look what we used to have.
When did it come out again?
2009?
2009.
Yeah, it only made 8 to 8.2 million worldwide of the boxer.
With an estimated production budget of 30 million.
Yeah, it does suck,
Because it's just like, damn.
Yeah.
Because, yeah, intensive hand,
seven years of intensive hand draw animation.
Yeah.
Over 100,000 friends.
Guys, search up the Red Line pilot film.
See if that's on YouTube.
Because I just want to, I just want to show you guys.
Like, they cooked, they cooked this up.
Yeah, here we go.
Obviously, we don't watch a bunch of it.
We can just skip a head.
Just skip to the middle.
They, like, they, they already cooked this up.
Right?
Wow.
Which already looks fucking great.
And they're like, now,
We can refine this even more.
Like, look at the-it-all.
It already looks so sick.
I know, look at the arse off of this pilot film.
This already looks sick.
Damn.
And then they took this-
Audio listeners, we're just looking at it.
Yeah.
It looks fucking good.
Don't worry about it.
And you can see some of the ideas
for the final film being put
in this flight pilot film as well.
That's so cool, man.
You just wanna have a fucking six pack of beer
when you're watching this.
Every two seconds is hell yeah.
Yeah, this is one of those like boys nights movies.
You're all just like, yeah.
It's like, please watch Redline if you haven't.
Redline is incredible.
And, yeah, this is definitely contender for me.
Yeah, they put boobs on a car.
They did.
They did.
All right, Jay, what's your best art style?
I mean, it was hard to pick, and I know it's going to be fucking corny,
but I have to say Dragon Ball.
Because, like, Toriyama's art.
I know people might say it's like overrated or, you know, whatever,
but like...
Just too much forehead for me.
So much forehead, you reckon?
Just too much forehead.
Twitter will be like,
this girl is so fucking sexy
and it's just like literally a plank from Edd Nettie
and I'll be like brother
It's like salmon head
I'm like what is this?
Okay so like for me like I mean obviously
I fucking love Dragon Ball
I grew up with it but for me I'm also putting it up there
just because I just love Toriyama
as an artist I mean I'm also a massive Dragon Quest fan as well
Chrono Trigger designs a peak
Chrono Trigger is amazing
I do love his I'm not like a head down like his awesome
I'm just I'm just jerk yeah
there is no I genuinely think there is no
artist that has the touch that Toriyama had. I mean, he's anime. He is anime. Like, and,
you know, he, it's, it's, it's, it's no surprise that he is one of the most influential manga
creators ever, um, just because he was able to mix, he was able to perfectly blend characters
and worlds in this strange sense of like whimsy, but also, um, like, mysterious is the only
way I can describe it. Like, you know, when you look at like Dragon Ball, even Dragon Ball Z,
anything that he's drawn. There's a part of you that's like, oh, that's kind of like cute and
whimsical and funny at the same time. But then in the serious moments and say like Dragon Ball
Z or like Cronotry or any of those, the art style really stands out because it's able to also
be serious when it wants to be. And I think there is no artist in the manga and anime world that is
able to go between these two opposites as fluid of a way as Tori Amor did.
Yeah. Yeah. And you know, like, and a lot of people, again, will like just kind of throw
away Toriyama's art has just been like, you know, very cartoony and everything like that.
Because, you know, he was obviously greatly influenced by Western comics and cartoons and stuff
as well in his art style. But I genuinely don't think there is another artist like Toriyama.
And I definitely felt that way when I played the recent Dragon Quest 7 remake. And, you know,
they obviously had to remodel all of the characters and stuff like that. And I was just like,
fuck, it looks like Toriyama, but it's not Toriyama. Yeah, it's missing the soul. Something about
this is missing. You know, it's, this is an,
You can very tell this is an artist trying to imitate Toriyama, but this is not Toriyama.
Yeah.
And something about it just, like, has stuck with me for the longest time.
It's one of those art styles that, like, any person of any age group can look at and just
be like, oh, that's cool.
Yeah.
And, yeah.
I would say, like, out of, like, a lot of artists, he has such a defined style.
100%.
Right?
No one looks like Toriyama's art.
Yeah.
You know?
Exactly.
Like, again, people have tried to emulate it.
of taking inspiration from it, but Torayama is one of those artists where you can instantly
recognize, like, that's Toriano, you know? And I think that's incredibly impressive for someone
who has, you know, been in the industry for as long as he has, you know. Yeah, he's the go for a reason.
He's the go for a reason, you know. Can't dogg on your pick. Good pick. All right. I picked,
Connor, what you put? I put Jojo Part 5. That was also a contender.
Look, Jojo as an art style, like, as like all of them together.
Maybe not my favorite, but Jojo Part 5 specifically, the way that it blends high fashion and goofiness and also extremely like macho physique.
Yeah.
I just love it.
I think it's awesome.
I genuinely don't think there is an artist that does androgynous characters better than Iraqi.
Yeah.
It's crazy because he'll have characters like Jojo who, when he drew him in part three, is a literal like wall with muscles.
Yeah.
And then now he draws him and you're like, I don't know if that's a dude.
Yeah.
Illegiate.
And it's so awesome how he kind of just, I don't know.
I've just never seen a show blend high fashion into anime, make it dumb but fun.
Yeah.
And just works so seamlessly.
And it's why even though, you know, to this day, you still, like, there's been obviously so many parts of Jojo,
but all the merchandise or clothing is always part five, so much of it.
Yeah.
Yeah. It's just so iconic.
It's so iconic.
Again, another artist that is instantly recognizable.
Yeah, you can't mistake as art style.
Yeah.
Good or bad.
Some people find it really ugly.
Mm-hmm.
I love weird art styles.
And to me, I've just, I mean, that's what really drew me to Joe, Joe.
It's just how, like, almost grotesque, how muscular some of these guys are, then mixed
with these absolutely flamboyant fits.
I love it.
And then combined with the writing, which is all so ridiculous.
Yeah.
It's an art style that is very much helped by its material.
Yeah, 100%.
Whereas I think some of my other favorites very much standalone.
Also, the only manga artist who's ever been in the Louvre.
True.
That's true.
And not for Jojo.
He just rips that.
He just does it.
He just did it.
Like, he's just genuinely a fantastic artist.
And it's just awesome seeing how he, you know, has evolved over the years as well.
Yeah.
It's fun.
I don't think we've ever seen a style shift like this over time.
Yeah.
It's because you can't recognize.
Like when he draws part one,
Jonathan,
you, you can't recognize Jonathan.
He doesn't look anything like Jonathan.
Yeah.
At least Jocho,
you're like, I can kind of see it.
He's stopped taking his steroids.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, but where Jonathan,
you're like, I don't know.
I don't think that's,
I don't think that's Jonathan.
I mean, just comparing Jonathan to say like Joseph
is like, it's completely,
it looks like two different artists.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's cool.
I really like how he's evolved.
Mm-hmm.
And it's,
it's rare that you,
get that with an art style where it's fun to almost follow the changes with it.
So I really enjoy that.
Yeah, his redrawings of the original,
like, if you Google Iraqi like characters then versus now,
it's kind of amazing how much he's changed them
because sometimes he brings back characters.
So you can very much see.
But yeah, the earlier characters are nearly unrecognizable.
Yeah, Jonathan looks nothing like that.
Jonathan doesn't look anything like he used to look.
Yeah.
Wow.
It's called her.
Yeah, it's neat.
Yeah.
That's what I have to say.
It's Jojo, you know?
But this is the one I want to talk about, Connor.
Okay.
We put biggest personal impact.
We're going to be the biggest sensor bar.
There's not censor enough.
I'm censor the whole thing except the face.
And I see for biggest personal impacts, you could have chosen a lot.
Could have chosen, I mean, I'm assuming.
I feel like you needed for being serious with my pick.
I assume you didn't want to put Jojo again because you put Masterpiece.
Look, there are a few animas that have made me blood, sweat, tears.
The masterpiece franchise.
But there is only one anime that has made me not as hard.
Like this.
So tell me about the time you discovered masterpiece in your life, Connor.
I don't know where I was at.
You know, I should.
I should know where I was at.
You know, Masterpiece 1 dropped.
And it was a revelation.
You know, the third scene in the onsend was something that I held here.
Right on.
And, you know, it was good.
It was good, but it wasn't until Masterpiece 2.
This is like the Empire Strikes Back.
Yeah.
Of hentied.
Like, this changed the game.
Yeah.
And I don't know.
I've just...
You're talking about Masterpiece like you did with Vinland's son.
Yeah, yeah.
It's like, season one was good.
Season 2?
Episode one was great.
And season two,
masturbation was never the same anymore.
You know?
There are some times in your life where you watch something and you're like,
I just can't, I can't watch worse now.
Right.
But he can't,
kind of fell off though, right?
They did make Masterpiece 3 with a different studio.
Yeah.
It's always the studio changes.
It's like, what do they do to my boy to have a situation?
You know, it really fumbled heavily.
And it could have been so great, too.
Yeah.
It would have been.
So I got to ask, were you a milf lover before masterpiece?
I was.
I was.
This just cemented it.
Yeah, this really cemented it for me.
It's just like, no, this is what I want.
He was, he was testing out a bunch of flavors.
Before this, I was a bit of a, what do you call?
it a grazer. I would try all the
all the catacons. Right, right.
And it wasn't until I watched this where I was like, nah, this is my right
or die. Yeah, you tried out all the different
cows and then he looked at the oldest one and was like
that one. That's what I want.
This solidified it for me. Yeah. So this, yeah.
Do you know what's sad though now?
What's up? The fact that
There's never been better. Huh? There's never been better.
No, no, no, no, no. We hit pee.
The fact, the fact that
now we're older gentlemen.
This idea of milk.
No, no, don't tell me this, God.
Don't tell me this.
They are just,
they are just normal people out of age now.
They're all contemporaries.
They're no longer.
I am okay with that,
but I still, you know,
if I'm like 40,
I'll be like,
that is one fucking hot mom.
Right.
Yeah.
We'll be the same age,
but I'll be like,
you are fucking,
you're so fucking hot,
by the way.
And even the age difference,
because there won't be any,
well,
meaning you think to me.
It's not about the age difference
that I like.
It's about the energy of an older woman that I like.
That's fair.
So that's what I really enjoy.
I think no matter how old I get, it'll, I'll enjoy that.
I'll be, I get older.
I'll be 60, and milk's always stay the same age.
I'll be 60 and I'll still be like, damn, late 40-year-old women.
Damn, give me that.
They've got something.
Shit.
All right, Gantt, what's your biggest personally impact?
I'm going to assume it's not a hand, though.
It's not a hen-eye.
I did take it seriously.
I think I know.
I think I might have a feeling.
No, I think I have a surprise.
It's Ava.
Yeah, of course.
This was the first one I put.
I mean, valid, dude.
I mean, give us a quick one minute explanation again,
because you've talked about Ava a lot.
Mm-hmm.
So let's do a quick, quick reminder.
Ava has been, art to me is communication.
And Ava to me is someone who has communicated,
not just like the original Ava, pretty much every Ava.
The creator has communicated pretty much every Ava.
aspect of his life journey from the beginning where he was less mentally stable to now the ending
where he seems to be a lot better in life. And every Evangelion has impacted me almost equally
discovering it at different parts of my life journey as well. And it's something that has left
a very, very deep impact for me. I don't know where I'd be without Eva. All right. My goat.
Bars. My goat. Yeah, I'll keep mine brief as well because I've also talked about my
but it's Planet Al's story.
Not only is this the anime that made me cry the most,
but it's also the anime that made me want to be a dad.
Oh, shit.
And it was also probably one of the first anime
that made me really appreciate
just well-written human drama
about a topic that, as I think I was 15, 16 when I watched this,
because it was like, what, 2009, right?
Something like that.
2007, something like that, mid-2000s.
The original clan hand was,
You were a young wee boy.
Yeah, I was in my teens, right?
So, like, you know, this whole idea of like, especially in after story,
this whole idea of, like, you know, Tomoyah trying to like come to terms with, you know,
being a dad and, you know, the life circumstances it was put himself into
and reconciling with his family and stuff like that is like, you know,
that's all concepts that as a teenager was completely out of my life.
Like, I never experienced any of that.
But this was the first show that really made me, like, you know, like, know, know the importance
of like family and, you know,
just like human connection
and, you know, a retribution
of, you know, one's own sins,
if you can call it that.
And it's like, yeah, still an anime that has,
I still have not watched an anime
that's made me cry more.
So, there you go.
Okay, now, now going on to...
Controversial.
Kind of like a new category.
I don't know if we've ever talked about
this specific category.
And we put best fight scene.
This was really.
really hard for me.
Because it's like there are some shows that have that one scene,
like Mob Psycho 100, has that
teleportation fight, which I think maybe is my
favorite fight scene ever. Yeah. Yes.
But the show doesn't have
enough fight scenes that are that high quality
for me to be like, it's got the best fight scenes.
So I'm glad you said that
because my pick, which is the Ghost in the Shell
movie, I picked it purely because
of that fight scene on the water.
That fight scene on was sick. Also the part where she rips
her arm off. Yeah. When you fight's
with the touch coma.
Yeah.
Me going for my Peevee at the gym.
Me failing a deadlift.
Where she fucking rips her arm off,
try to rip the tank.
It's so fucking sick.
It is just so sick,
especially the scene on the water
with the invisible guy.
Like that is one of the coolest choreographies
I've ever seen.
And it just made me fall in love
with the whole cyberpunk aesthetic
of Ghost in the Shell.
Yeah.
And like, because that's the thing, right?
It's like, you know, as Connor said,
like, there are lots of shows
that have good individual fight scenes.
But the category was best fight scenes, like, plural.
So I was like, there isn't really an anime
where every fight scene is like, you know.
There is one, Joe.
There is one.
It's called Jujutsi Kaysen, actually.
Yeah, I mean, truthfully, it might be Jujizsikaisen.
It's pretty fucking dude.
Yeah, I guess.
I didn't put it, but I think we'd all be valid if we put it.
Yeah, because the fight scenes may be all the best out of it.
I mean, yeah, the clips I've seen are fucking amazing.
There's no denying that.
especially modern JJK.
Like season one was, yeah.
But like one season two starts,
it's like every fight scene is so unique.
And I feel weird for not putting it
because I didn't want to put JJK,
but now that I'm talking about it,
we can all agree.
JJK, you are not at all mistaken or wrong
for putting it as the best.
I think it probably is.
Yeah, objectively speaking.
Yeah. See, because like I've only seen season one.
So like, I've only seen the season two
and season three fight scenes just in clips.
Yeah.
But even then, like, as, you know,
as much as I'm,
not a fan of JJK personally, the fight scenes look fucking insane.
Yeah.
You know, and so I can't deny that.
But yeah, just from what I've experienced in full context, for me, it was ghostly sure.
Fair enough.
All right.
Connor, do you want to go?
Sure.
Yeah, I put Hana, Hana, hona, hona.
You like the men that much?
I love narration and battles.
I realized, because I thought about it, I was like, I really like JJK.
But not enough narration.
But they do, they do, they do narration there, too.
They will be like...
No, in the latest season...
Yeah, they do so much narration.
Bro, it's...
With the fucking judge fight?
Yeah, the judge...
That was 99% narration.
No, no, no, no.
I was like, this is a peak hunter-hunter fight.
The one where I was like, oh, JJ Kay's going
in this direction was the fucking constellation fight.
Well, my God, okay, that one was like,
that one, I bet Togashu was punching the air.
He was like, I doubt I didn't think of that shit.
I was having a look at this and I was like,
I think I get it.
No, I don't really get it.
think that was like a Togashi style ability.
Yeah.
That wasn't as good as Togashi would have done it.
I think conceptually it was just like,
this might work in manga because you could just reread the pages in the anime.
I was listening to the explanation.
And I was just like, oh my God, it's like what,
it's like trying to read the culling games all over again.
Yeah, it's like it doesn't, like got it a little too abstract.
And because it was over so quick,
it was like very hard to understand.
And also it was very weird that like they were so quick to figure out the reasoning.
You know what I mean?
Oh, yeah.
It was like really weird.
It's like on the mercury's in retrograde.
And I've got a car in the parking lot that one of them is the car source power.
Yeah.
This is one of the JJK fights.
So modern JGK is turning more and more into Tagashi fights.
Oh, but I think they don't do it as good because Togashi, he'll make me think that like, I'll think like,
what is his dumbass power?
And then by like four minutes in, I'll be like, no, the shower head ability is
the most powerful. No, you don't understand. That is true. The shower head and endability
is maybe the most world ending. You know, like, because he's just got such a way of framing and
and like a Togashi fight is, is like almost already over before it begins, and I love it.
I love that he sets the framing and he'll, he'll big it up and he'll, he'll say every side and
every intention. And this is kind of like insane, grandiose stakes to this fight. And then
And sometimes it's just over instantly.
Right.
And it's, it's awesome.
I love how he does fights because you truly never know if you're getting a fucking
slug fest, you know, I think back, like one of the more traditional fights that's
fucking awesome is the Kuropika versus the one of the, what's the name?
Oh, Kurodo.
Yeah, yeah.
I love that fight scene.
So good.
But then you also, on the inverse, you have like these fights that are like, Cholo,
Cholo, not Cholo.
Is it Rollo?
Rollo.
Rolo? What's his name?
The guy, Crollo.
Crollo.
Crollo.
Crollo.
Egon.
What's you doing, man?
Hey, Killer family.
Crollo versus the, um, um, Zoldic had.
Oh, yeah.
That fight is really fucking cool and, like, more technical.
I love that fire law too.
Even though it doesn't resolve.
Yeah.
It's like, it's just fucking awesome seeing these like,
he builds up these power systems so well.
And they, they, they, there's just,
such a anticipation that I don't get with other shows. Yeah. Because you almost always know who's
going to win 95% of the time in most action anime. And Hunter Hunter sometimes feels like you don't know.
I mean, Togashi kind of did the same thing with Yu-U-Hukshall as well. I might have for you
Hexha if I watched it. Yeah. You-Hakshel was definitely up there too. But like, I remember in like the
dark tournament arcs, there were some like fights where you're just like, oh yeah, you know,
this is, he sets it up as like, almost, you know, on the contrary, he sets it up as almost
this like really important fight that's going to be like chapters.
long. And then the character just gets immediately slimed.
Yeah. You're just like, oh shit, okay, this was, this was the unimportant fight.
Yeah. So what's coming next? And you're just like constantly on your toes, you know?
You know, that's the big difference between like JJK and like, you have showed like Hunt Hunter.
They, some of the fights in JJK with the powers they have, it would have lasted like three, four episodes.
They would have hyped it up way more. Yeah, yeah, we've like the explanations of like the characters
figuring in the house and stuff. They would have been like,
They would have explained why he likes this car model so.
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
Or like why the constellations mattered.
But in a way that makes you feel like they're powerful.
Yeah, right, right.
Yeah, whereas JDK was like,
it was just like, Fortnite Dance, fight, one episode done.
And you're like, what are I witnessing?
How would you be then gone?
Um, I mean, I was going to put sort of the stranger,
which probably has my favorite fire scene in it, but I mean,
I was like, it's, it's the goats.
It's, it's Maruta.
Okay, fair enough.
I mean, okay.
No, no, I'll give it to you.
I mean, I'll let you have it.
I still think Naroto specifically like pretty much,
when Narito is at its peak, he has just the best choreography in anime.
It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's fucking Narito for one.
So people already know this, but one thing I really value in a fight scene is the choreography.
Yeah.
Right?
It's not always about the powers.
Um, and specifically, you know, you have some,
you have some action anime where the manga already popped off.
To me,
Naruto has like the best adaptations in terms of its fight choreography
because it has this really good balance of just showing you
what the fighters are going through
and telling a story within a fight itself.
Like one of my favorite fights in Naruto is Obito versus Kaka,
Kakashi.
Specifically in the anime version.
And I think it's rare to find a story told so well
with so little words, just purely through fight choreography.
Because this is a fight where they used to be like very, very childhood friends,
and you see the conflict that they're going through represented in the actual fight itself,
not just them talking about it.
And it's a mainstream pick, yes, but it's...
No, I mean, it's valid, dude.
It's hard to...
It's going to be a shonen.
It's going to be a shonen.
It's going to be a shonen.
Yeah.
And, you know, the final Naruto versus Saske scene, I think, was solid.
fucking good because in the anime itself, there's so many, like, little details that
are never, like, explains.
Like, for example, there's, this is one moment where Naroto's fighting Sascade and Naroto's,
like, you know, iconic ability is the shadow clone ability, right?
I don't think this is in the manga, this was like anime only, but you see that because they
know each other's fighting style so well, like, they're having this, like, really, really
cool hand-hand combat, and Naroto is constantly trying to, like, cast the Shadows.
And Saski is just like, slapping it away.
Stop that.
Yeah, he's just, they're trading some blows.
Naroto can't, Naroto channels fucking cancel.
Naroto like pulls back, tries again.
And it's just like this little thing where if, like, if you understand what these characters are going through, you understand that this is not explained.
This is just something that happens on screen.
Yes.
But it's conveyed, it's conveyed in a way that doesn't betray their characters, but adds to their characters.
their characters. And I just think it's such cool fight choreography. And, uh, yeah, Narato's the
go. Hell yeah. Fair enough. For fight scenes. Uh, for overhated, you put rent a girlfriend.
Okay, now we're getting to, now we get into spicy territory. We are getting into spicy
territory. So, overhated. I did put renter girlfriend. Do you really think it's overhated?
I think, I mean, Japan loves it. Okay.
Rent a girlfriend.
Rent a girlfriend is currently the meme show that everyone clowns on.
Right?
And I think it is doing the exact fucking job that it is set out to do.
Okay.
Right?
Because there are,
there are so many traditionally fucking happy romance where you have like a,
you have like a main character and a female love interest.
and they fall in love and yada, yada, yada.
But there's no drama, there's no spice
or anything like that, right?
Rent a girlfriend,
it is meant to make you angry, right?
I swear to God, you are meant to get frustrated at this shit.
That is what keeps you reading.
That is what gets you invested.
Shouldn't it be hated more then?
Sorry?
Shouldn't it be hated more then?
People look at rent a girlfriend
and they judge it like it's meant to be just a normal romance.
like a traditional romance, right?
But they don't look at it like a fucking trashy,
melodrama, melodrama romance show.
There is a fucking reason why it is sold,
God knows how many volumes, right?
It's because you fell for it, you keep reading it, guys.
You keep reading it, why?
Because it's addictive.
So what you're saying is too many people are watching,
it's like the equivalent of people watching Love Island
expecting it to be the notebook.
Yeah, exactly.
That is actually like the perfect analogy.
Right, okay.
You know, like I...
Like they're mischaracterizing what it actually is.
Yeah, I...
Rentz a girlfriend has a romance anime.
There's been few anime that has made me as angry as rent a girlfriend.
But can I not deny that I'm fucking invested into this shit?
Right.
Maybe it's a me thing, right?
But I know I'm not a me.
It's not a you thing because it's fucking popular.
Yeah.
Do you know how many chapters does rent a girlfriend have now?
Too many.
Check this out.
Check this out.
Is it like 300, 400?
Or is it more?
Like, how many chapters is it at right now?
I think it's like 300 400.
435.
That's crazy.
46 volumes.
Where, how many did Nisakoi have?
Because I remember that was the one romance anime
when I was growing up where I was like, this is taking forever.
I don't think Nisikoi was very long, actually.
Yeah, 200-something, yeah.
It's 229 chapters.
Yeah.
That is crazy.
God damn, dude.
Yeah.
Are you caught up?
Huh?
Are you caught off?
I'm like an arc behind a rint of rent-a-girlfriend.
I like to read it in August.
That's still too many chapters.
That is, yeah.
That is negative IQ.
Dude, you can read, you can read the entirety of Dragon Ball twice.
My thought on this is I politely disagree with you, John.
It needs to be hated more.
Shit needs to wrap up.
I'm like Jeff Keely at the Game of Wars.
Wrap that shit up.
Wrap that shit up.
No, don't.
I don't wrap it up until you give me
something else for me to be.
Should it have a good ending?
No.
Okay, good.
It shouldn't.
It shouldn't.
Correct answer.
The biggest thing that would actually make me like,
the biggest thing that would actually disappoint me in rent a girlfriend.
Right.
Is if it has a clean ending.
Now, give me a fucking messy ending
because I think the real reason,
why people hate Renzi Girlfriend, right?
And people are disappointed is because there was a point where we had hope.
Yeah, it was quite good in the first season.
Not just the first season.
There was an arc where we had hope that this was like a traditionally, like a good show
where we can see like good character progression.
And it is specifically the cinema arc in Rentz & Girlfriend where you read it.
Not the Paul Bonar arc.
No, the Paul Bonar arc.
There's two different points, right?
The pool boner arc is when I realized what ride I'm getting in for.
And to me, that is, that arc is fucking cinema and peak for a different reason.
Okay.
Because that was like, okay, I, this bono right now is the hate bono I have for this story.
But I know from this moment on, I'm going to finish it.
The pool, the pool arc was the moment I realized I'm in this right to the end.
Right.
Because I need some, I need, I need to feel this.
I need to feel the anger, man.
The cinema arc was back when I was like,
holy shit, this is actually good writing.
This can be good.
But I feel like that's the real reason it's hated
because people had hoped that this could be a good show
and then it turned out to be just a very, very trashy romance,
even more than we thought, right?
People who still have hope in Kasia, why?
He is irredeemable.
Let's just, let's just appreciate this
for the absolute train wreck that it is.
Guys.
Because you guys keep reading.
You guys, you guys are falling for the rage bait.
At least I acknowledge the rage bait.
I embrace it.
All right.
And God knows, we ain't,
in terms of like these like trashy rage rape romances,
they ain't a lot.
I ain't got a lot to eat right now.
I got rent a girlfriend.
That's it.
Fair enough.
All right.
Joey.
Okay.
What'd you put?
I put, uh, slime isika.
That's crazy that you put overhated.
Isn't it like?
I feel like it gets, okay, so this is kind of a half.
I feel like more fatigued.
Fatigue, but also I think this is more like kind of my change of heart towards this show
because I used to not like this show.
Yeah.
I gave, I watched season one when it first came out and I was kind of just like,
why is this show like love so much?
I don't get it. But a recent project that I'm working on has made me kind of like continue on and actually catch up with the entire series. And I realized that like I was looking at kind of kind of like with Rent a girlfriend. I was expecting a different show than what it actually is. Yeah, it's just civilization. Yeah. I mean, it's essentially just like a fucking really fun D&D campaign is the only way I can describe it. And I realized like once I kind of realized that slime isa is just one of those shows that is just not meant to be.
taken seriously or, you know, not meant to be, uh, I guess, over-analyzed or anything like that.
And it's just a dumb, fun, sieve, overpowered slime playing civilization and, you know, playing
some like, you know, fucking old school like politics and world building and town building and,
you know, civilization building is that's when I realized like, oh, this is a turn your brain
off kind of fun show.
That's what made me, like, click with the show.
And I've caught up to it.
And it's, it's just a fun, like, dumb fun show.
So like for me, it was overheated for me.
Right. Initially.
Because you saw Isakai?
Because I saw Isakai and I saw like,
I saw slime and the concept of the show.
And I get, and I think I watched like the first four or five episodes
and I was like, this is not.
I thought you had this show because you like lost a sponsor for it
or something.
That too.
But I didn't lose the sponsor.
Oh, right, right, right, right.
That was the other guy.
Right, yeah.
But yeah, it's, yeah, I feel like I just had the wrong idea about this show.
Yeah, yeah.
And it was overhaited for me.
And I still,
and I still, like, come across people who do not like a show.
I watch the first season of the show.
And, like, when I see what it is now,
like I see screenshots or whatever, like, clips?
I'm like, what is this show now?
It's ridiculous now.
It's, like, completely changed what it was in season one.
What do you mean?
Uh, it became, like, civilization building, right?
It was always civilization building.
Was it?
In the start, it was just kind of like him fucking around,
like, absorbing powers.
Season three, season three was when they really leaned into, like,
the politics, like, the sieve side of the,
But it didn't feel very serious, really.
I mean, what I remember.
I mean, it started off as a comedy show.
Again, I watched like 10 years ago.
Yeah.
I mean, I feel like season one was always building up this premise of him kind of like starting
a small community than building that community and the community turns into a town, town turns to a city, that turns to a country.
There's quite a lot of like fighting and shit in it.
So that's why I was like, oh, is what it is?
I don't know.
Like, I don't know.
What do you mean?
Yes, because historically civilizations have never fought.
ever fought.
Maybe what are you on about?
There's plenty of peaceful similarly.
It's just not around anymore.
I think my favorite thing was slime as well is that like, I think it's around like the end
of season two or some, sometime in season three where like, Rimmeroo just like evolves into like
essentially a god.
Well, um, where, and I'm just like, these powers are fucking ridiculous and he's so overpowered.
And I know that even when the serious arcs come on and there's like a new threat, you
that is like trying to destroy him.
Well, actually he's trying.
Yeah.
He's trying really hard.
Actually, if anything, his town did.
That's, that's the whole point.
The entire world is racist towards monsters.
Yeah, his town is actually the most like,
anti-racist town.
One of the central conflicts in the later seasons
was when they come across like the human towns
and the human civilization who are just fucking deadly
racist towards monsters.
Yeah. And Rimmer is like,
nah, we should all get along and the humans are like,
fuck you, we're gonna kill you.
We're gonna kill you.
But he's so overpowered that like,
even if there's like a new threat that shows up
and it's just like, oh shit,
like this person is incredibly overpowered.
This might be the end.
In the back of your head, you're always like,
yeah, but I know rumor is gonna win.
Yeah, I mean, and he always does, and it's fun.
I mean, I think slime's great.
I've always liked slime.
I think one of my favorite seasons.
I can't remember which season it was,
but there is a point where everything's like,
happy, go lucky.
He's like building up his town
and everyone's getting along.
And you're like,
ah,
I mean,
this is just the kind of sure it is.
The kind of sure it is.
And there's a big turning point
where Rimaru does get tested
about his morals,
where something bad happens to his own town
and his own city.
And you're like,
oh,
shit,
okay,
this is,
you know,
this seriously is a civilization builder
because not,
you can't always get along.
And I thought that was a really interesting turn
for the series as well.
Yeah.
Um,
yeah.
So,
I overhated it at first, but now I think it's a great show.
It's a great fun, dumb fun show.
Back play.
All right.
All right.
I put Mushakutense.
Okay.
Damn, what's up with all this Issa Khan and the overhated guys?
Well, look, I think Mushakotan's a lot of hate.
Gets a lot of hate.
It gets a lot of hate.
There's three people.
There's people who thought it was too boring.
Yeah.
Didn't watch it.
Yeah.
Or like, you know, just it didn't click with them.
Yeah.
Whatever reason.
People who really fuck with the show because they like it.
And these people who just immediately recoil at it.
Right.
Yeah.
Which I think, you know, it's, you know.
Understandable.
Yeah.
It's like, it's tough because we're in an age right now where when you, like, it's like the poison and the end of the end state thing.
I mean, we could talk about it all day, but like people don't want to be challenged as much by their media anymore.
Mm-hmm.
And I think people very much associate the media they like as a personality trait.
or the media they engage with as a personality trait.
And it's like, it's just not the case.
But if you go online or discussion or whatever,
like if you like X show, you are X.
And it's like a completely unhelpful way of discussing media
because that's how you end up with just everyone liking Marvel Slop,
which is like common denominator entertainment that is made for masses.
Where it's like, yeah, look, I don't like,
what's the main character called?
I forgot his name.
Rudius.
Rudius.
I don't fuck with Rudius.
Does it mean I can't enjoy the story?
and see the arc and see the challenges and watch a person try to change.
I mean, I can appreciate all that and enjoy it a lot.
And I think it's that instant recoil that some people have that I think,
you know, you've got to challenge yourself on that sometimes.
Why is it that you immediately try to write this off?
You know, I feel like it makes an atmosphere that we're all worse off for
when you can't all engage with something sincerely and discuss it
without that being a personal branding or an insult involved.
Well, I think what people are missing in the nuance is I can, like, I can totally understand
someone watches Michelle Contente and be like, I don't fuck is really.
Yeah, of course, yeah.
I find it gross.
This is not for me.
But the fucking problem, the thing I have a problem with is when people look at this piece of
media and be like, anyone who likes this piece of media is X.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And that, that just like, there's a big difference between admitting that you can't get past
some elements in a certain show
and admitting is not for you
versus kind of like...
attacking people who enjoy it. Yeah.
People acting like you're out here
like jerking it to fucking 12 year olds
and it's like, brother,
it's entirely different.
And the reason why no one wants to
fucking talk about anything sincerely anymore
is because you get branded to something
if you want to actually have a discussion
about an uncomfortable topic.
Yeah.
You know, and I'm grateful on this show
that we have a good audience
that is willing to kind of allow
to have that discussion.
Sure.
But that's thing we had to build up
for like 300 fucking episodes.
You know,
if we'd rip this one day one,
might have gone a little differently.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I think people understand us.
And so they understand
the way we're coming from
with a lot of this stuff.
Yeah.
It's like to equate those,
to equate that,
those things,
it makes the discussion
around these types of shows
really difficult in a way
to have a sincere discussion
about some really uncomfortable topics.
Because like, I mean,
the truth is,
is that we live in a world
where horrible things happen
all the time. There are some heinous acts that are done. And we have to deal with that. We don't like,
you know, a lot of the times we live in a bubble where we don't ever have to deal with anything
uncomfortable. People who do bad things go through a system that we don't see and is all cloaked
and it's, you know, we don't engage with it. And it's like, what does it truly mean to have to
coexist and to deal with these uncomfortable things that happen all day, every single day?
And the things that happen in media pale in comparison to what, some people will actually
do in the real world.
Yeah.
And so if we can't even remotely discuss the stuff in media, how the fuck we begin to
actually discuss how to handle this in the real world?
Because this is the only safe space we have to, to be able to dissect these topics
with a stick, you know, not have to actually be like, bam.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's, you know, it's an unfortunate thing.
And I hope that the internet will mature a little bit when we come to these topics.
Are you caught up to the lay season?
No, I'm waiting for it all to air.
It's not without down thereing right now, right?
No, no, no.
I'm waiting for it to tell me to binge it.
Okay.
Is it good?
I mean, it's still like, it's very, like,
Micho Contente is still building up to its next arc.
First few episodes, I'll side like the first two is a very slice of life.
He just, Rudy, living his life.
It's not a show I enjoy watching week by week.
Yeah.
I want to just know what's happening.
Yeah.
Too early to tell right now.
But I've heard a lot of big things happen this season
from light novel readers.
I'm very, very excited.
Yeah.
All right.
Next one is an interesting category.
The category is it was peak when I was 15.
I put south at the end.
Understandable.
This I think is well like deserving of this.
I also enjoy this one.
Yeah.
Like look, I, man, I wish this show was good.
And I wish, I mean, it sure was good.
But I wish it had kind of realized
reached potential.
Yeah.
Because it was, you know, there was a,
I think there was potential there.
And I liked the world a lot.
And it just kind of fumbled.
I like this vampire in modern day
post-apocalyptic world.
I love that.
I just don't fuck with vampires.
I don't know.
Vampires when it's done, right?
I mean, look, you're talking to a guy
who's like fucking 19 Castlevania's deep.
I love vampires, bro.
Vampires are fucking sick.
What about, like, Helsing?
Oh, you didn't enjoy Helsing?
Well, the beautiful thing about vampires, right,
is that they're fucking us.
we can't tell the difference.
They're fucking us.
And they do fuck us.
They breed us.
Oh, gosh, they would breed me.
No, I think like that's the great
aspect of a vampire villain
is that these supernatural beings
that are indistinguishable
from humans when they want to be.
I think that's why it can be so fucking peak
sometimes to use them as a storytelling tool.
Yeah, for sure.
And, you know, Jojo figured that out day one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah, like, you know,
Vampire Hunter D also did that too back in the day
and that was fucking awesome.
Helsing is sick.
There's so many fun ways to use vampires in stories.
There are a lot of these shows where I like,
I like it in spite of vampires being in it,
not because there are vampires in it.
I mean,
Helsing is just cool as fuck.
It is.
But I don't know.
I've never found the concept of vampires that interesting,
I guess.
It's never been like a big draw for me
as like conceptually as a character.
You're like, oh.
I also really liked the vampires as a form of like dissecting
like class structure, you know, because I think that like vampires often are really powerful
and they can decide who becomes a vampire. There's a lot of really interesting stories you can tell
who are like a observing like different classes and stuff too.
There's something very sexual about them. And they also, well, you can see to, I mean,
the nape is a very sexual part of the body. Yeah. Yeah. You know, it looks like a normal part,
but the nape can be very alluring. That's why, you know, in kimonos, it's about, you know,
you do your hair up, you expose the nape. It's a very sexual point. I mean, Twilight is to blame for that.
I feel.
No, no, Robert Pattinson is to blame.
Conceptually, conceptually, you know, I mean, just...
I'm kind of into it.
I mean, we were bouncing on a crazy style
since, you know, vampires got treated, Joey,
you know, it's...
Also, Castlevania anime's Peak.
It's fucking awesome.
It's true.
That death fight scene lives rent-free in my head.
You fucking miserable little credit.
I fucking love it.
I love it, dude.
Hell, yeah.
It's fucking awesome.
So, yeah, I was peak on 15.
Also, could it easily have been, I can make a kill.
There's so many.
There's too many.
You may Nikki.
Yeah.
No, Umey Nikki is.
Miri-Riniki.
You know what?
I booted up Yuma Nikki the other day.
I streamed it.
That's a great game.
I played it for the first time on stream.
The fuck is you may nicky.
Don't talk to me right now.
RPG making.
And I booted it up, right?
No one of my friendless had this game,
except for Joey who had booted it up last month or two months ago.
Yeah, because we thought about doing it for best buds.
And I was like, this is not appropriate for place.
This is like a by yourself kind of, kind of, yeah.
Yeah.
Just to go, I'll quickly gloss over it.
It's an RPG maker game that came out in 2004.
Yeah.
Kind of the grandfather of RPG maker weird games.
It is incredibly influenced.
There's no dialogue and it's all fucking weird.
Everything is, it's all just fucked.
It's a, it's a really dark story as well, if you play through it.
But this is one of the story isn't really explained, except for the last very moment.
Yeah, but you can discern.
Yeah, it's very autistic in that sense, where it doesn't tell you straight on.
We don't know anything about the author.
They never posted anything ever again.
mysterious.
Great game.
As you can see, very weird.
And it's free.
Yeah.
And when I booted it up,
Daddy Catacawa.
Oh, yeah.
It's fucking Catacawa.
That's right.
Is it?
Yeah.
When I booted it up,
I was like, no shot.
There you go.
Were they published a free-to-play game?
Yeah, it's what I didn't understand.
I don't understand how that worked.
It doesn't sound of the catacawa I know.
How do they make money?
Anyway,
yeah.
I could have been up there.
Any of these,
Elf and Lear,
I've been, you thought about.
Yeah.
So let's rip it, Alphen-Lead.
Why did you put it up?
I mean, fuck, there's so many choices I could have picked.
God, this was dog shit.
Yeah, but my God, during my fucking 15-year-old Sonic the Hedgehog edgy days,
like, I thought this was the coolest shit ever.
Do you know I miss people being like,
Adelaide's for children and you just post an Elfin Lead gift.
Yeah, you post the dog scene from Elfin Lead, and he's just like,
um, what about, explain this scene, man.
Yeah, I don't know, like, you know, back in the,
I feel especially Elfin Leed is perfectly coincided with my like,
I'm 14 and this is deep era because there was a lot of,
there was a lot of very like faux deep, edgy shows,
especially in the 2000s, like Elfin Leed, for example.
And yeah, I just, I don't know, something about it.
It was obviously, I think back then, well, this was like, what, 2004?
So it was obviously for 2004 standards.
And this is before I discovered like the 90s OVA era, right?
So this was easily the most violent anime I had ever watched.
And up until watching Elphin Lead, I didn't know anime could be that violent.
Like, you know, I've watched, I'd watch like Akira and stuff like that.
And it's like, yeah, sure, it gets violent.
But like, Elfin Lee took it to like a whole other level.
And I tried to, you know, I tried to convince myself that this was like,
oh, there's a deeper message of blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And, you know, like, it's fucking peak.
And, you know, that's when I was 15.
15 years later, I don't feel that way.
I feel this was just an overly edgy show
that also was just not a good adaptation
because I also read the original manga for a much later
and even though the original manga is better,
still not good.
Yeah.
So yeah, this is my 15 and I was peak anime.
That play.
All right.
What is he now?
Oh, Lafina.
I mean, it's still good though.
Is it still peak?
I like it.
Oh shit.
Maybe I made a mistake.
I mean.
I think Lovinna's good.
I think Loveina is a good.
I don't watch it, by the way, but I think it's good.
I think it's a storm good show.
I mean, this shit was peak when I was 15.
I was like, I remember Discovery Lovehina, and I was like, I don't like romance anime.
Who could like romance anime?
I watched Lafina, and that became like my fucking obsession in my 15.
I was like, oh, man, I wish I was him, bro.
I wish I was him.
I want to get beaten up by Nauru.
Yeah, and this is where I discovered my love for Tsundarais as well.
There you go.
This is a bit younger.
This ruined...
This ruined me as a kid.
I see, because like, I think if we're talking
this era of anime, I definitely think there were more dog shoot shows than this.
It'd be like, Begada HK or something would be like...
That'd be like...
That was a deep cut, man.
I don't know that name in a fucking minute.
By the way, that's my sleeper agent activation.
You say Begada HK and I'm fucking...
See, another show I was gonna put on here was like Hittalia.
Oh, Hatalia.
Yeah.
Or it was just like, everyone.
talked about it, everyone was like, this is the funniest thing on the planet. You watch it now
and it's just ghost stories. Ghost stories as well. Maybe it's still funny. I don't know.
Another, you know, there's a lot of shows that. Another was peak when I was 15. Another was peak when
I was in school. Yeah, I thought it was a good choice. Biggest disappointment. Okay. Promise Neverland.
Agree. No explanation needed. Yeah, no explanation needed. I mean, one of the most dog shit season
twos of all time. I mean, I'll be real. I put this on here, but I don't even, uh, I don't even, uh,
I'm not even talking about season two.
Oh, really?
This was probably like the biggest disappointment.
Like, of course, season two, absolute dog shit in terms of his adaptation.
Went on to read the manga.
I was also disappointed.
I was like, what is this bullshit?
Yeah, the final art for the manga.
Oh, my God, I fucking.
I went to the museum when they had the art exhibition.
And I was looking at the scenes of the final, like, season three and four, I guess what would have been?
Yeah.
I was like, what the fuck is this?
Why are they in the...
What are they doing?
What the hell's going on?
I never read the manga.
I only watched the two seasons of the anime,
and I was like, God, fuck it.
Okay, okay.
Let me tell you why it fucking disappointed me
without actually spoiling the show.
Sure.
All right.
So the way, as you know,
the way Promise Nevlan is set up,
it's a very, very dark world.
Yeah.
With children dying, children getting eaten,
and all that jazz.
and it's a pretty brutal story, if you think about it.
And then as the story progresses,
it kind of like plays on this, like, idea.
And it really, really develops well up until the ending, right?
Where it almost seems like every single conflict is resolved.
You have characters that do some very morally questionable stuff.
Like, seriously, like, you know, fucking murder and fucking war crime.
whatever, that kind of like level, right?
And it gets to, it just,
the biggest thing that disappointed me was it just gets to this point
where everything seems to have been taken over
with this, oh, power of friendship Shonen Lens, you know?
Oh, it doesn't matter.
Oh, little baby, doesn't matter what you did.
I forgive you, we can get through this together.
And I'm like, bro, what the fuck?
Yeah, you forgot that this was a Shonan Jomsia.
Oh, that's the thing, man.
And everything is just, everything is just like, every character is like kind of forgiven.
Every, every, every major conflict is nice, tightly, like, very cleanly, like, resolved without much, like.
Explanation.
Yeah.
It's also just so fun when you look back and you're like, damn, that one year where this was airing and everyone was so hyped on the show.
Yeah.
It's like, that is such a short microcosm of the show's life.
Is that one period where everyone thought it was peak?
and like you can never like to someone who wasn't around
you just never explain it.
Yeah, because I mean the first half of the first season
was like they're going to be the show.
Yeah, the first half of the first season especially
I remember I was like, wow, this is for a shunning jump show
this is incredibly dark and like they left
just enough room where like the story could really go in any
direction so you really had no idea where it was going.
Yeah, and that's the thing.
They did set up some very interesting conflicts
as the show went on, some very interesting characters.
that all went down the shitter in the ending.
Everything just got nice and neatly resolved.
All of these, like, how are they going to resolve this conflict?
Someone's going to have to make some kind of sacrifice somewhere
or someone's going to have to, like, betray their morals
or really, really think about it.
Nah, nah, everything gets solved.
Everything.
No one needs to make any hard decisions anymore.
Everything is solved.
What did you put, Jay?
I had a lot of choices, but the first one I thought of was Wonder Egg priority.
Damn, two clover work shows.
Yeah, I mean, that was kind of a big fall off.
Oh, my God. I've never had a smile fade from my face faster than watching this show.
Because I remember watching the first, I remember seeing the premise of it.
And I was like, oh, that looks super interesting.
I went to the studio to talk about it.
I watched the first episode.
And I'm like, dude, this show is so much potential.
Like, visually, thematically, it is such an interesting direction that they're taking with a concept.
And yeah, just, I think from around like episode four, I'm just like,
what is this shit?
Like, you had, you, you, you had the dunk.
All you had to do was do the dunk and you fucking missed it.
And then the last episode was just abhorrent.
But like, that's the problem with a lot of anime, right?
Is that like, you know, because like another one I could have put on here was like,
Tenjo Tenge or like, even like Dead Man Wonderland to an extent.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, it's just like, it's just, you, you just had the, you had the free net.
Or you had to do a shoot and you just somehow fumbled the bag so hard.
So yeah, like for me, like when I think of biggest disappointments, immediately
Wanderick priority comes to mine because I genuinely thought this was going to be my
anime of the year and it just was far from that.
All right.
What did you think?
Yeah, I could have put a lot. I thought like maybe erased.
Oh yeah.
That's another one.
But then I put, really for me, maybe Dahl and the Franks.
Yeah.
It's kind of a big disappointment.
Yeah.
Maybe gone, you're like, wait, what?
For me, I really felt like.
What was the exact moment you realized that?
they jumped the shark.
I really didn't like Zero 2's backstory.
Okay, actually, what we're getting into that?
I was like, what are we doing, don't?
What is, what is like some of the biggest
jump the shark moments you've had in anime?
In terms of like, this happens?
And you're like, what the fuck?
This is going to feel off the world.
Like, for good reason or bad reason?
No, jump the shark means like,
that's where the show like fell off.
Oh, all, all, all.
This exact moment.
Um, because, uh, yeah, with darling the Franks, there was a moment where I took it seriously.
And then there was a moment where I still enjoyed it, but for completely opposite reasons.
I feel like I'm the idiot because I was expecting to have an experience from a show where you fucking like pilot someone's ass cheeks.
Like, I don't know what I was like, shame on me.
Like I should have known.
No, don't be, don't be shame on me.
I should have known better.
I fell for the exact same thing.
And then aliens happened.
That was the exact moment.
Aliens.
The aliens was like the writing on the wall
where I was like, I get it,
then he used to be an explanation for zero two.
I just, I didn't want it to be this.
Right.
And maybe it could have been handled better.
I don't know.
Either way, it was just like,
never have I had such whiplash
and wanted to forget an experience.
Yeah.
Because I remember how fucking gleefully excited
that I was for each episode coming out.
Yeah, it just fumbled.
Yeah.
That's true.
I remember my biggest jump the shock moment.
Aldenot Zero,
season two, episode one.
Oh.
I said,
oh, yeah.
Dude,
Outno Zero was so good.
It was so good.
Oh, my God.
And I remember how hyped everyone was
after season one ended.
Yeah.
Fuck, bro.
Damn.
Damn.
That moment, okay,
so to explain,
I don't care if you get some
about out of Arizona.
Season one ends on a fucking
cliffhanger,
banger.
Yeah.
Right?
Well, you have this main conflict
between the protagonist
and the antagonist,
or more like,
you know, they're like frenemies kind of thing
from what I remember.
And the season ends with the protagonist
getting shot in the head.
And you're like, holy fucking shit.
I've got to wait how long to see,
how long this concludes.
Are they going to change protagonists?
I'm going to see a different perspective.
Season two, episode one starts.
Fucking protagonist walks back in like nothing happened.
Yeah, he just walks in the fucking room
with some silent addicts.
He's got a flesh wound.
Get shot on the head and he's like,
no, it was nothing.
Don't worry about it.
And I was just fucking dumb.
What the fuck, man.
What the fuck?
I completely forgot about that until you told me.
Jesus.
All right, has aged well.
Yeah, me and you had the same one for this.
I think psychopath has aged.
I mean, I fully agree.
Wonderfully well.
Yeah.
And I think it will continue to do so.
I think so too.
As we become more and more dystopian in our everyday lives.
Genniribuchi, he knows, man.
The writing was on the wall the entire time.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We are, yeah.
I mean, look,
We've already kind of done a little bit of this with a modern credit score system.
That's true.
But we will definitely get there with, you know, social systems as well to rank your social
well-being and societal well-being.
Yeah, our society is becoming more Orwellian by the day.
And it's only a matter of time.
And it's, yeah, I mean, there is so many parallels, unfortunately.
There are a lot of people in society that, you know, if you're kind of deemed as irredeemable,
or not to be cared about,
you could just kind of be written off,
you know?
You know, people, you know,
the civil system,
you know,
obviously the system
that makes all the decisions
and everything like that,
but I mean,
right now,
people are already fucking asking
chat GPT
what they should do with their lives.
Yeah, man.
Yeah, I mean, you know,
and we're constantly...
Chat GPT,
what job do you think I should get?
Chat GBTGPT,
what...
Why am I sad?
Policies are getting
more and more, like,
extreme.
around the world, you know, and then isolationist
and then this kind of thing just kind of plays into this world
of where we will allow government and authority
to have more say over others as individuals.
Yeah, it's a, it's a, the warnings of the messages
from media are becoming more true every day.
And it's scary.
And I think having media like this in times like this is very important.
You know, it's like the more this has gone on,
the more I'm like, you know what?
Maybe Makashima had a point, you know?
Was he a cold-lutted serial killer?
No, tear the system down, bro.
He was right.
Sure, sure he was a fucking psychopath who felt no empathy,
but he saw the system for what it was.
No bias, uncompromised.
He saw it for the for the dredge on society that it was.
Farless of the race against the machine and was like,
that's me for real.
But that's the thing, man,
and maybe if there's a society that was willing to help people and support them,
wouldn't have got a villain.
You know what I mean?
Exactly.
It's not.
It's the fault of the environment.
We want to blame everyone who's gone wrong.
And it's like, we are what caused this.
Yeah, 100%.
It's, you know, I mean, well, we can get into all of this.
Yeah.
We just be a two-hour podcast about just this and how we're willing to throw people.
I mean, you know, my pick is pretty much in the same vein of it just being like it's not fiction anymore.
It's closer to nonfiction of just now people can't distinguish between what's real and what's not real, what's online, what's not online.
being so obsessed with your online life
that you don't take care of your own personal life
and losing identity of oneself and stuff like that.
I mean, this shit is aged incredibly well.
And the fact that the opening finally got its fucking flowers
for becoming a TikTok sound.
I'm like, yeah, okay, guys, you're only 20 years later to this shit.
So yeah, Lane is fucking amazing.
I mean, I was also very close to putting perfect blue.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, perfect blue can easily go up here.
Yeah, 100%.
That has also aged incredibly well.
well with some of the ideas that explores.
Agreed.
Criminally overlooked, Jerry.
Oh, okay.
I mean, God, there's so many that I could have put on here, but I put Markia.
So you put one that made you want to be a father and one about motherhood, Jerry.
Wanting to be a mother.
Yeah.
Do you have something you want to...
Call me Vin Diesel, because I love family.
But I think Markia is...
I do not understand how, like, so many people have not even...
heard of this film. It's an Okanamari film who, you know, she made, she wrote,
Arnohana and did a bunch of like amazing human drama romances. And this one is a two,
I think it's like a two-hour film or something about how the main character is this elf girl
who orphans a human child. But because obviously elves live for thousands of years longer
than humans. It's this really interesting concept of how she forms this feeling of motherhood
towards this child who is not her biological child and yet has to come to terms with the fact
that this child, no matter how much she loves him unconditionally as a mother, will outgrow
the sun no matter what happens. And the ending to this movie is fucking devastating. And it made me
cry like an absolute bitch. I would say after Klanad after story,
Marcia made me cry the second most. Um, and it's an incredibly beautiful film that I,
I, I legitimately don't know, have you watched it? Yeah, I've watched it. Okay,
you're legitimately the only other person I know who's watched this movie. I gotta watch it.
It's, it is an incredibly beautiful film. Um, really good fantasy as well. The wall building is
quite interesting. The wall building is great. Yeah. And, uh, yeah, just real tier
jerk over a film. Um, so yeah, people need to watch it. I think out of like the, like the,
like Mamma Hussoda, Shinkai films.
I feel like this goes in that same kind of like category.
Yeah.
How it feels.
Yeah, but it's, you know, they have their own styles to it.
And this is definitely like a more Okina style.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
This is Okada Mari's Wolf Children.
That's how I play.
Yeah, yeah.
I think it is her, actually, I haven't seen all of her films yet.
Me neither.
I haven't seen her latest film.
Out of all the Okina-Mari films I've watched, this is my favorite.
Yeah.
Because I still haven't seen Liz and Bluebird.
I haven't either. I've heard it's good, though.
I've heard it's very good.
Yeah. But this is definitely the best one I've seen out of her filmography.
Yep. What did you put down?
I put a pretty recent anime, actually.
Okay.
I don't know a single other person that's watched this.
Apocalypse Hotel.
It was the anime original show made by Sy Games Pictures last year.
Okay. I've never heard of it.
And it is...
It's a weird...
mish-mash of different genres.
But the thing that I love about the show,
the thing that speaks to me,
is I love it when you get a show
that kind of like combines different tones together.
So the premise of this show is that it is set in a post-apocalyptic world,
right, where there are only robots left in this world.
And you have a robot that is looking after this hotel, right?
That's why it's called Apocalypse Hotel.
And she is basically waiting for humans to come back to this world, right?
And she's taking care of the hotel just in case she can serve human customers again.
But it has been thousands and thousands of years.
They will probably never come back, right?
But she still has like a very positive outlook on life.
So it's so weird because you combine this very, very bleak, depressing,
set up, right, with very happy, positive vibes together. And it's kind of this mishmash of
what I would call like happy melancholy. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's
got such a unique, like, unique emotion to the entire tone of it. You know what's really funny
though, Garan, is that you basically just described the plot of Pokopier. It's exactly the same.
It's like, the world is bleak and depressing because the humans
never going to come back, but the Pokemon all stay positive because they don't think they're
going to come back.
But there is one episode in this that I think is my favorite slice of life episode of like all time.
I think it's like episode 11, but there's this one episode that is basically like zero
dialogue, right?
So the premise of this episode is this android, the main character is right?
running out of battery and, you know, there's no new batteries being made.
So she has to, like, go out into this world to find this, find a new power source, right?
And at the beginning, you think, okay, maybe there's, like, conflict coming.
Maybe she, maybe there's going to be some tension about whether she can find a new power source or not.
And then she just goes down to this world and then you kind of realize she's by herself and there's
no internal dialogue, there's no thoughts or anything.
It's just you just see her kind of like exploring the world by herself.
It's it's a beautiful, it's such a beautiful episode where you get to just feel what her journey is in this world.
Right. Like you just silently go along with her. Yeah. And then halfway through, she just finds this new battery.
And you're like, okay, what she can do now? Then she just realizes that maybe I'll start like camping out here.
And then she kind of like meets some of the animal in this world. And,
It's hard to explain with words.
It's something that you just have to feel.
Okay.
Because then she comes back.
And, like, one of the other robot workers, like, ask her.
Like, so, like, how did it feel?
And she just felt, I felt alive.
And that line fucking hit me, man.
Because it's hard to describe, like you said, like I said, with words,
because it's an episode you just have to, like,
fucking feel and experience.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm like, damn.
No, I get what you mean, because I felt very similar vibes,
if I'm interpreting what you say correctly,
when I watched Girls Last Tour.
It's very, very similar to Girls Last Tour.
Yeah, I mean, I love the fuck at a Girls Last Tour,
so I'm probably going to enjoy this.
Yeah.
But there's also fucking Mech battles.
There's also, like, sidegames going, like, above and beyond
with, like, so many different genres in this one.
It's just a mishmash of different episodes
and different genres.
It's hard to tie down to like one singular genre.
Okay, I'm going to check it out.
But it's fucking amazing.
Hell yeah.
Yeah.
Hell yeah.
What did you put, Connor?
I thought about putting like Log Horizon.
I thought about Log Horizon too.
No one really talks about it anymore.
Yeah.
But I put Boca Rano.
I mean, we spoke about Boca Rano a bunch.
Yeah, it's on your three by three.
Yeah, it's one of my favorite animas of all time.
I really love Boca Rano a lot.
It's very dark.
Very distressing.
But it's a very powerful story.
I, if you are in the mood for a very depressing show,
but a bit of a thriller, I recommend it.
One of the best openings of all time, too.
Yeah, the opening is good.
Yeah, definitely recommend it.
I won't really say too much about it,
because we spoke about it on the show a fair bit before.
Yep.
It's been a long time, but go watch it.
Yeah, hell yeah.
You know, I like a lot.
So I was out with Sydney recently, and we're at a bar.
And, uh,
this is how about anime when you talk about in the bar.
Even anime fans at the bar be like, the fuck you're talking about.
No, no, no, no.
We had the dead ass.
We had this moment.
Because every time the bar tender ask what animated you like,
city always like quays Bocairano and everyone's like,
what the fuck are you talking about?
We're at this bar.
And she mentions Bocairano, dead ass.
The bartender, she literally dropped her glass.
She was like, no fucking way.
The first time I have met someone who also knew.
the anime as well.
Yeah, no one in Japan
ever talked about it.
You know, it's so criminally overlooked
and it was probably a one in a million moment
where we met the one other person
to also watch Bocairano.
And the vibe of the ball will be amazing now.
Yeah, she's like, oh, you're so cool.
You like Bocairano.
Yeah.
It's amazing.
Dan, you like depression too?
Same here.
It is extremely depressing,
but so fucking good.
Go and watch it if you don't mind being depressed.
Yeah.
Yeah, we are.
We have been talking quite a lot.
So we should pretty speed up.
But we did have a couple of categories.
We probably just clays over quickly.
Favorite protagonist, I just put Sakamoto.
Not from Sakamoto days.
Yeah.
Sakamoto desegas.
Yeah.
I mean, you know, the moment I saw that, I was just like, fuck, he's right.
He's so, look, a protagonist doesn't need to be the coolest guy or the most interesting.
Sometimes he can just be him.
Yeah.
And Sakamoto is him.
Oh, you know, and there's just something unapologetic about Sakamoto in the show.
Yeah.
that I just love.
And it's like,
it's like,
sometimes you can just be above it.
Yeah.
And sometimes when you're like,
man,
I'm pissed off,
you're like,
what would Sakamoto do?
Yeah.
You know,
Sakamoto would find a way.
Yeah.
And there's something about it
that I love.
And I love this show so much.
Bro was aura farming before or farming.
He was.
It's like,
you know,
sometimes you want to oropharm
with these bullshit of powers,
but you can just be him.
But that's,
and he's him.
So what did you guys put very quickly for this character?
God,
I had the hardest choice with this one,
because the problem with a lot of anime
is that most of the time,
a great anime is not,
the protagonist is usually not my favorite character.
Yeah.
So, I mean, I would probably change my answer now
to Sakamoto days after I saw that.
But, like, Perfect Blue as well also.
Like, I mean, that protagonist is an incredible protagonist.
You know, the shit that she goes through, you know,
one of my favorite, um, Satoshi Khan films.
Strong woman.
Strong woman.
Strong woman.
Love a look, a good strong female lead.
And Perfect Blue is just, yeah, I mean,
you could have fit Perfect Blue into,
half of these categories.
So I had to, you know, give it some love.
Yeah, favorite protagonist.
I put Onizuka from great teacher,
Oni Zuka.
Another great choice.
Yeah.
Another great choice.
I mean, he's in the title.
He's great.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He is great.
Nah, I mean,
uh,
when I was a kid,
I always,
you know,
I always grew up to be like,
I want to be like him.
Yeah.
I want to be like a good role model like him.
Maybe not.
He's an achievable role model.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He is.
He is.
media. Yeah, 100%. We could all be Onizuka if we chilled the fuck out and brought the vibes.
And started smoking cigarettes. Wow. No. And we all put the same antagonist, which is the only show
we all agreed on. Yeah. I mean, Johann is the greatest antagonist in fiction, in my opinion.
Of Monster is the him. Yeah, he is here. He is the bad him. But he's, honestly, too. I could have
also put Monster in favorite protagonists, because I think Dr. Tenma is also an incredible protagonist,
too. Like, it's him and Johann's, you know, um, relationship that makes that show a masterpiece,
you know? But if you want to see the best villain in anime, and we all agreed without talking
that he's the number one. It's monster. Go and watch monster. It's peak. Yeah. Best soundtrack.
Zanku no Tera. I nearly put this too. I also nearly put one of Kevin's as well. Yeah.
I put Maidenabit. Nibu. Yeah. But I think I put Samo Champlin and you did two, right? I also did
too because, I mean, I would have put fully coolly on there, but I already put it his favorite anime's,
but Samar Champ, I mean, Nuzibir's and Fat John.
I can't think of a show that is
is the soundtrack.
Yeah.
But it wasn't meant to be the soundtrack.
Like, I don't think Samar Shambly
was supposed to be the soundtrack,
but it is the soundtrack.
No, it was written for the anime.
The sound, no, you know what I mean?
Like, when a show
sometimes can be eclipsed by its soundtrack.
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I feel like it's, it's, there is no show,
like, I don't know how to explain it.
It's this an initial D.
I know what you're getting.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It like goes beyond the show that it's attached to.
Yeah, 100%.
Yeah.
I mean, it's amazing.
Best romance for me, put golden time.
We spent on golden time for.
Great pick.
I liked it because it was college.
It was not high school.
I'm so fucking sick of high school.
You know me?
And I enjoyed that.
And that's pretty much the only reason.
Yeah.
I don't have a strong feeling about any category in the show.
I mean, it's solid pick, dude.
I would have also put it there.
So I also don't have any strong feelings about best romance.
Because my definition of best romance,
is so fucked.
Domestic girlfriend.
Yeah, no, I put a,
so I just put a romance that me and Sydney rewatch recently.
Um, Rumbling hearts.
Dude, do you remember this?
I fucking remember the show there.
Do you remember?
I saw that and I'm like, dead ass.
Was it good?
But also, it's good.
Me and Sydney had such a good time and I'm craving,
like, I'm great, this is just the,
this is the perfect show to get drunk and watch.
with your misses. Yeah, this is peak 2000's visual novel, bro. Yeah.
Like, it is so, okay, let me, let me tell you the setup corner. All right, so you're in high
school, right? We're in high school. And it's basically almost like, you know, it's not a love
triangle yet, but you have the red-haired girl, right? She is basically in love with the main
character, this guy. Right? And their best friend is the blue-haired girl, right? Who's
supporting them and all that? And so the first few episodes,
is the guy and the red-haired girl getting together.
They're in like puppy-love era car-cracker.
Oh, no.
The red-haired girl is put into a coma.
And while the guy is grieving, the blue-haired girl comes in and be like,
she comes out from behind the tree.
I'd be like, don't worry, my man, I got you.
He needs comfort.
Yes.
So you've always loved Messi's show.
Literally car crashes.
Yeah.
And then here's the best part, right?
Here's the best part.
So they start dating as this girl is in a coma.
She wakes up.
Right?
Years pass.
They become adults.
She wakes up.
She wakes up.
And she thinks they're still in high school.
I don't know how she doesn't recognize that they look different, but whatever.
It's fucking anime.
And so what do they do?
They're like, we got, we got to keep pretending.
This is, this is, this.
Oh, yeah.
We can't let her know.
We can't let her know, brother.
Fuck, I need to rewatch the show.
Bro, it's so, they don't, they don't make them like they used to, Joey.
It's all I'm saying.
I remember the shit.
This, this was the show that got me into, like, the shitty, like, visual novel romance shows.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, you are reminding me of this show.
They don't make them like the use to is all I'm saying.
I all, I almost put Cochrow Connect as well.
Oh, great choice.
Great choice.
That is another life.
Why don't I forget about that?
Bro, ask me about all the messy romances.
I got the list, man.
I got them all.
I didn't even remember what I put in
because I probably don't have much strong feelings about it.
What'd you put in?
Oh, no, actually, I want to eat your pancreas.
Yeah, you talk about the show.
Yeah, again, another show that made me cry.
Read the book, made me cry.
Just a beautiful romance story.
But it's just a beautiful, great human drama romance story.
but now that you're saying rumbling hearts.
He's cooking.
I might have to change my mind
because there's a bunch of those
like, like not even, I don't want to even say shitty.
I don't even know what the right word for it is.
I just like.
I just miss dumb fucking melodrama, I guess.
Like campy melodrama.
Yeah, the campy visual novel.
Did you watch Coca-Roconect?
I didn't. Oh, bro.
Yeah, I probably would put Cocoa Connect.
Should I watch it now?
Is it good some?
If you want to just stupid, campy melodrama.
Yeah.
Okay, it's basically, it's a bunch of,
it's a bunch of a group of friends.
And you know, they kinda like each other, whatever.
You know, it's typical anime setup.
Yeah.
And then they're like, and then there's this body swap situation.
Oh.
Wait, I have seen an episode.
Yeah.
I watched the first episode of this way, way, really.
Yeah.
And then feelings get conflicted because you're like,
I'm in your body now and I like you, I'm inside of you.
I'm inside of you.
Yeah. Yeah, it's just stupid dumb melodrama shit.
Anaba, bro.
Anaba was the one.
She was best girl.
Yo!
She was like, yes.
Yes.
And final one before we wrap up.
Okay, so the last category is called I want to talk about this one.
So it's basically just a show that we personally want to talk about.
I want to talk about Akhanibonabanishi.
Yo, go with it.
This show, bro.
I recently watched the anime and I'm currently reading the manga right now because of Alex.
Alex was the one that introduced me to this one.
Yeah.
And I do.
not understand why more like more people aren't talking about this.
Because it's Raku.
Yeah, but but-
Well, there you go.
Yeah, I mean, but like, I remember like when, for example,
when like Shorakugo, uh, what's name?
Shinju came out.
Yeah.
Um, I feel like that show was like decently talked about.
I feel like it was talked about in the Antichube circle to be like, oh, look at me.
I like, I like, I like Japanese.
I'm culture.
I mean, it's reasons why shows like Ji Haifoto don't really go outside of really like deep
anime fandom because of the, you know, those concepts are just too alien to, you know,
it's why like, like, when you were in Japan, if you're in a bar, you know, everyone knows Hecaronog
yeah.
Yeah, like, nobody fucking knows Hecarano go outside of Japan.
Right.
But, you know what I mean?
Yeah, it's not just like in the mainstream.
And it go is a more accessible game.
Sure, yeah, yeah.
So it's like.
But yeah, Akonabanishi, I mean, look, like, I, I know of Rukugo.
I've never watched Darkugo.
I enjoyed the fuck at a Shoa Gendoku when it came out.
So when I was like, oh, there's a Shoninin' Jump anime.
based on Rakugo. I was like, okay, I'll give it a watch. And yeah, like in a lot of the ways that
I enjoy, you know, like slam dunk and Marsh comes in like a line or ping pong. It's not so much
about the actual thing that they're doing, but rather the journey of that. And what I really
appreciate especially about Akane Banashi is that I feel like more so than a lot of other like
kind of niche category anime in the sense of like the arts that they're dealing with. I feel like
Akhanabanish actually does a pretty good job of getting people who have absolutely no idea
about what Raku is or the subtleties or what it is as important of a traditional art as it is in Japan.
And like, it's not only explains it, but also shows you why it's so fucking cool.
And like, you know, again, I know of Raku go, but like, Akonabana should make me actually want to go and watch Raku.
Because it's just like, I never knew about like how, like, what makes good Raku
or like, you know, because like, you know,
Rakuo is essentially just like,
the only way I can describe it for people who don't know what it is,
it's Japan's traditional form of,
it's like if you took stand-up comedy with slam poetry
is the only way I can describe.
It's like a mission.
Sorry, that's very unusual.
Yeah, it's this one person sitting in front of a crowd
and retelling an old story,
usually dated back to like the Edo period.
And you might think like, well, okay,
what's the fun in listening to another person
tell the same story that I already know?
But it's this subtle art of each individual Raku artist,
like finding their own unique ways and unique spins on a story
that brings an entire new light to a story that you might already know inside and out.
You know, there's like this great episode, I think it's like in episode eight or nine,
where Akane, the main character is in like a competition.
And her master tells her that the only story that you can do
throughout this competition to prove that you can be my apprentice
is the story of Jugemu,
which is one of the most famous
Rakuo stories.
Like, even people who don't know about Rokigo
know about Jugemoo.
Do you know Juegamer?
Like the really long name.
It's appearing in like
four metal and like Gintama and stuff like that.
Maybe I have heard it.
Probably don't know right for it.
Jugemuguel Mugu Mugu.
Khaegu Mutsu
Nekhariu Mutsu
Neku Neku Neku.
I think I have heard of it.
Yeah.
So that's originally based off a Rakuo.
And so it's one of those stories
that even people who don't know
Rock ago know the story of. So,
Arcanes been put this challenge of like, well,
how do you retell a story that everybody
already knows without them getting bored
or, like, you know, being disinterested in it?
Yeah. And the show does such a good job of using, like,
Akene's struggles to get to where she's currently at,
and also her passion towards the art that
tells a very familiar story in a completely unique and wholly
original way. And I just think it's like, not only is it like
well animated, well voice acted.
But like the manga art is fucking beautiful.
And I just feel like, yes, okay,
it is a very uniquely Japanese anime,
but I genuinely do think it's an anime
that anybody can actually enjoy,
and I feel like it needs more praise.
So there you go.
Oh, yeah.
All right, Garn.
What do you want to talk about, Gantt?
Recreators.
Goded.
I love this show.
I fucking, you know,
sometimes this is the show
that made me realize
there might be a flawed show.
You might view like a flawed show,
but sometimes you just see a show
where you're like, holy shit,
this was made for me.
This was made for me.
And like, this is like the one show
I always think back to where,
I'm never going to see another free creators
because it's just such a wild idea.
And there are some, like, you know,
people watch it and
people complain that there's too much,
talking and too much yapping and all that stuff, which I can understand. But I mean, the entire
premise of re-creators is you have different like tropes, uh, character tropes from anime coming
from their stories into real life. Right. And what I found super interesting is the dynamic of having
these characters from fiction coming to real life and then kind of like meet their creators
as well. Right. And I have, you have this dynamic of different creators,
like different creations, maybe get along with the creators,
maybe some of them hating them.
It's kind of like this father, daughter, father, son,
but sometimes it's like a more like, okay, you are my gods,
kind of like relationship between the creators
and the creations.
And it's just, number one, I think the concept is just fucking cool.
You have magical girls fighting against Jojo characters,
fighting against Montegatry characters,
fighting against fake characters.
You know, how is that not fucking awesome?
And people complain that there's like a lot of like yapping in it.
There's a lot of talking in it.
I, you know, there are some characters who I think talk too much.
Yeah.
Right?
But when there is like a, when there is a fake character trying to argue morals with a magical girl,
I'm like, this is so fucking interesting, man.
I'm like engaged.
Yeah, you're like watching the worlds collide.
And it's just so fucking cool.
And it's just, I would, there's never been a show like this again.
I had a very same.
I had a very similar vibe with drifters.
Oh, drifters.
Whereas it's like, you're never going to see Akichimitsu Hide
talking to fucking Hellsing, you know, fucking Van Helsing
trying to take down Adolf Hitler.
You know, it's like, it's just such a fucking crazy concept.
And it's like, you see dialogue exchanges
that you would never imagine, but it works.
And it's badass as fuck.
Yeah.
Go watch recreaters.
Yeah.
Yeah, go watch recreaters.
What do you put, Con.
I actually forgot what I put.
I got it put Loggerizon.
Yeah, I did put Loggerizon.
I mentioned earlier on the criminally overlooked.
Yeah.
I love Log Horizon.
I don't have actually that much to say about it.
Other than, man, I'm sad that we never got more.
We did get more.
We did get more, one season more.
But it wasn't as good.
No, it wasn't as good.
Season one was so good.
Like when it came out, it was like so fucking good.
And it was like one of the first kind of game-like animas
that was kind of as close as you're going to get to a game.
It had some of this weird SIO bullshit
where they have side quest.
But it was really fun.
And I really enjoyed the dynamic
and the characters a lot.
And it felt like watching
your friend's game.
Yeah.
Honestly.
And it had an awesome anime opening.
Oh, yeah.
Still does.
A man with a mission.
Yeah.
Hell yeah.
He went on to do so many more.
Yeah.
But yeah, I really loved it a lot.
And season one of Loggerison is really, really good.
And I wish people spoke about it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But oh, well.
Things change.
Things change.
You can still go watch season one.
It's good.
