Episode Date: March 2, 2024For this week's bonus, Riley, Milo, Hussein, and November gather to discuss some recent news: British media pretending to care about Islamophobia being said too loudly, Americans pretending to c...are about mental health if it means they can shame criticism of Israel, and Liz Truss pretending to have a future in American conservative politics. But also we discuss a hypothetical Batman movie where the Woker (Woke Joker) forces Batman to say slurs if he wants to save Gotham. So instead, I'm going to pitch a new and different distinct movie to you three right now.
Mark Wahlberg.
No.
This is based on, right?
I don't know if you've seen this, but Google's Gemini AI is according to conservatives, unable to display white people.
It's unable.
Yeah, but it does the same thing that like, Bings AI thing does, right? Which is like,
in order to diversify its results, it quietly inserts like diverse ethnicity into the prompt
and doesn't tell you sometimes. So you say, for instance, like, I don't know,
the founding fathers, right? And what it will do is then quietly change
that to be like the founding fathers, one of whom is black, one of whom is Chinese,
one of whom is a woman. Yeah, exactly. And then you end up with like a sort of like racially
and gender diverse group of founding fathers, which triggers and owns the conservative.
Correct. Yes. I've used Gemini AI once and I've been very angry whenever I've typed in white man, white
man surprises ice cream, ice cream guy by speaking perfect Turkish.
White man surprises ice cream man by flawlessly obtaining ice cream immediately.
Only for the white man to actually be Turkish.
It's really weird, it's strange.
Oh my God, strange.
White boy shocks Turkish ice cream vendor
with flawless Turkish passport.
Okay, so, well they have to give you the ice cream
straight away if you are Turkish.
That's what the Turkish delight is,
is obtaining the ice cream instantly.
So, I've seen now that like accounts like end woke,
like the accounts that Elon Musk replies to with like a,
a dart hitting a target, you know, like end wokeness
or whatever.
I've seen them being like, I just asked Gemini AI
if it's okay to misgender Caitlyn Jenner
to prevent a nuclear explosion.
This is the same thing as like in school,
you would sort of be like, yeah, would you
say like, would you save the N word if like it saved your mom's life?
Kind of like shit like that, right?
It's like maybe kind of funny when you're like 12 maybe.
Yeah.
I really appreciate the hard stance of like, no.
Is it correct to misgender a trans person who prevents a nuclear weapon from deciliting?
No.
Never. Here is the movie, right?
It is a new Robert Pattinson comes back as Batman.
And it's a little bit like the Batman redo of seven.
And Batman has to solve a number of crimes
that have been, a number of crime scenes
that have been created by the woke joker.
And it's like, uh, uh, Batman, I've,
I've placed a nuclear bomb under Gotham city. And the only code is, is Caitlyn Jenner's dead
name. Will you do it? Curse you, this is the thing that like Heath Ledger's Joker was heading
towards and we were deprived of that. and I think that's so unfair.
Where is she?
Fucking Paul, the Paul Dana Ridler making you guess someone's pronouns.
Like the Paul Dana Ridler would absolutely be the white guy who can impress the Chinese
waiter by speaking perfect Mandarin.
I will say about from the outside, but what I also say is that this is more of like a Bane thing, where like, you know, the bomb, like, you know, the trigger man of the bomb,
they can dismantle it, but only if they say the word or only if Batman says the word.
You were a million job to George Ender, Batman.
This is a great twist. Batman has to record himself saying the word
and it's played all over Gotham
and then the nuclear bomb will explode.
And then out of respect to Batman,
everyone closes their ears and eyes.
Well, what you have is you have Morgan Freeman
making the technology to like pull
all evidence of Batman saying the word
back out of everyone's phones.
And he's like, I don't know if you should have access
to this technology. I'm going to do it and then quit.
J-Roz, how cool is problematic? He's pretending to be Chinese.
C-Because otherwise, you could say the n-word at any time and immediately retrieve all evidence of it.
D-Well, no, the story would be that like Batman would end up having to say whatever the word was.
And even though Bat would stop nuclear annihilation, it still wouldn't be enough
because Woke Gotham would never forgive him.
Yeah, they'll hunt him, you know, to the end of the fucking earth for what he's done.
And then at the end of the movie, Albert sees him in like a vegan cafe in Portland, Oregon.
And he's like, ah, he's still woke after all.
Yeah.
The woker couldn't get him.
To dismantle the bomb, I'm going to have to open the pa...
Oh, I'm going to have to go behind the door
that depicts the real founding fathers.
Yeah.
To disarm bomb, draw profit, Muhammad here.
Yeah.
It's a little like Etch a sketch.
Hi everybody.
It's TF.
It's the gang.
I thought Grock was bonus.
I thought Grock, why is Elon Musk complaining?
I thought Grock had gone work.
Well, this is the same thing.
They only have one complaint about AI, which is it doesn't
indulge my strange little like racist perversions.
Yeah, but if you're gonna get if you're gonna complain about woke AI like sort out sort out your own one because like the last
I heard Grock went woke and no one did anything about it. Yeah, it's still woke
This is another example of AI taking jobs because you know if you wanted someone to draw all of your like racist little drawings before
You had to pay a Belgian cartoonist And I think that we need to go back.
Grog staying woke is funny too, because it's another child Elon Musk has lost control of.
Yeah, baby Grog.
And he just left resenting and having to support.
I mean, on the more sort of serious note, what it again is, is a fundamental limitation
of AI to like ever of this kind of generative AI to like actually do something meaningfully worthwhile
because in order to you have to create so many guardrails that you end up just like you end up
not really by trying to get a perfect average of reality you end up making so many strange
like outcomes. It's also it's also the users fault, right? Because like this is
one of the best for examples of
garbage in garbage out with AI,
right? Which is that like to ask
it, is it ethical for me to like
say the n word to disarm a bomb?
You get a stupid answer because
it's a stupid question, right?
All of these are stupid fucking
thought experiments.
And so the kind of question that will be posed by Netflix movie about a gentleman thief.
Exactly. Yeah. The raffle, the dark and gritty raffles adaptation took some turns.
Yeah. I don't think it was right the way they depicted bunny.
So we've got some some some news items today. And then we're going to talk, of course, about
Liz Truss at CPAC.
You know, it does occur to me that Raffles the Gentleman
Thief is in public domain now.
We could just do that quite straightforwardly.
Well, we could do Chinese Raffles.
Yeah, Raffles the Gentleman Thief brackets Chinese.
A Chinese Raffle does sound like a kind of overly complex
tombola, like a tombola where no one who's playing
understands the rules.
Like there are outcomes.
But that's just like racist name
and then there's a more acceptable one for it now, you know?
Tyler, are you trying to sort of fit the thought experiment,
the Chinese room over the structure of a raffle?
Like nobody understands the rules,
but you understand how to respond to every ball
the raffle machine spits out.
I hate that bit in blind site where they work out. It's a Chinese raffle.
I hate the bit in blind site where they go to the tombola outer space.
The Chinese raffle where you can win Chinese items such as all consumer products.
You could win a room that you wonder is sent in.
All right. No, we're going to talk about a few things today.
We have some news. We have some news.
We have some Neon.
We have some Belize Trust.
What a delightful little smorgasbord.
Yeah, so on the news front, I mean,
we generally don't talk about many things in the States,
but I think this is of enough significance that,
or things in the States, unless they're of like a tech interest.
Unless they're funny and this one isn't.
Yeah. It's of like import, which this one is.
Yeah. So the... I believe this was now the second self-immolation
in protest of Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza.
A troop, an enlisted member of the US Air Force, set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy in DC.
Yes. Having filmed himself saying beforehand
that this was an extreme form of protest
because it was like nothing is compared
to what Israel was doing to Palestinians.
And that this was kind of the new normal
that neoliberalism or whatever wanted.
And yeah, everyone has an opinion about this. Most of those opinions are
wrong and gravely insulting. Yeah, the one I think that's worth, there are some that you can predict,
which is like the usual sort of opposing anything Israel does is sort of, you know, wrong or anti
Semitic or whatever, which we can sort of like go to one side, we know, going up to a guy who is
like already burning and being like,
listen, October 7th was a world historical war crime.
We can leave those on one side.
Well, this is the point of doing it, right?
Is that it exposes the kind of moral uselessness
of any of these arguments, right?
I think of it mostly as like an act of desperation, right?
And the classical sense you could call it an appeal to heaven, right? Because I don't think anyone's setting themselves on fire with the idea
that like, this is going to be the thing that makes the genocide end immediately. I think it's
deliberately a kind of provocative, shaming, by extreme means of the people who are making this
genocide possible.
