Mattie Lubchansky It's the last regular episode of the year and we've brought on friend of the show and premium points member Mattie Lubchansky to discuss......well, a lot of things: Adam Neumann's new sensitive landlord venture that's totally not a cult, the sentencing statement of Nikola electric truck company CEO Trevor Milton after his conviction for securities fraud, and our despised but eternally entertaining recurring character: NYC mayor Eric Adams. Starting point is 00:00:00 You ask me how it's going, Matty. You know what? I realized that life is amazing, right? Because every day you wake up and you could experience everything from a plane crashing into the World Trade Center through to a person who's celebrating a new business that's about to open.
Starting point is 00:00:17 I love so much this quote from my good mayor and good friend Eric Adams. My good mayor. Eric Adams. My good mayor. Oh, my good mayor and good friend Eric Adams. My good man. Eric Adam. My good man. Oh, my freaking good man. Eric Adam.
Starting point is 00:00:28 I'm so you know what, Eric Adam speaking totally unprompted. I think I asked about his year went and he's like, what every morning 9-11 could happen. Or a business can be open, which is to me, Eric Adam's the entire width and breadth of human experience. Canapal now normal no more towers, we're one step ahead. What are you gonna do?
Starting point is 00:00:49 Crash into the cries of building like a fucking pussy? You're one mayor friend who's going through it just like every day is like 9-11. I wake up 9-11 happens. Yeah, but. That's hell for me. You wake up and it's 9-11 every day. You gotta think it's a challenge. I mean, it's hell for me. It's New York up in his 9-11 every day. He's got to think it's a challenge.
Starting point is 00:01:05 He's hell for me. He's New York and it's 9-11 every day. It's Irish 9-11. A challenging day for me is Eric Adams's nightmare is every day. There's a 9-11 of a different nationality and he doesn't have got to have a 19 brave Ulster man. So this also doesn't account for on woolberg is on the plane, but he let's wrap this also doesn't account for someone
Starting point is 00:01:32 who's small business is doing 9 11. You can have both. Well, if you're is is Irish 9 11, a 9 11 perpetrated by Irish people or targeting are probably both, right? I think the general damage is like very heavily disputed on one side of that equation, right? Yeah. Irish side 11, they're desperately trying not to kill any cops in the fallout, but you
Starting point is 00:01:57 know, admitting to themselves that it is likely. So what I like about this quote from Eric Adams, again, ask just how his year was as you say is that is that It's like 9-11 is the opposite of opening a business Which I guess you could say 9-11 did close down Yeah, I sat in Florida like I mean this is the other thing that we're missing here is that he said this specifically about his sissy He opened it with like New York the the sissy where, you know, 9-11 happens. Yeah, John.
Starting point is 00:02:30 You're being 9-11. Yeah, John. It's right there. Yeah, but his logic is if in New York, a 9-11 could just happen at any time, a constantly living on edge. And that's the perfect way to set up your own business, right? You're willing to take risks because, like like the greatest risk of all is that you could be the Robert Pattinson character in that very bad film, which ends with 9-11 happening.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Yeah. Therefore, making the whole plot completely pointless. Live every day, like it's 9-10. Live every day, like it's 9-10. Live every day, like it's 9-10. Holy New Yorkers get it, you go to the Boatega 9-11 happens. And also he then goes on to say that this makes New York City great. It's the best city in the world because at any moment 9-11 could be all. Is it?
Starting point is 00:03:16 I'm just going to actually look at the window real quick. Yeah, we're fine. Because it's worth 9-11ing. I mean, there's something to that. I mean, the Saudi's threatened to 9-11 to Ronte, but they didn't do it. New York, you know, the big enough bit. A city worth 9-11ing. I mean, there's something to that. I mean, the Saudi's threatened to 9-11 Toronto, but they didn't do it. Yeah. You know what a big enough bit. A city worth 9-11ing.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Yeah. Well, you know. When that's like on the patches of the NYPD counterterrorism bureau. They were thinking about different cities they could do it on, but like, there was nowhere more ambitious than New York City, right? That's right. Where the money lives. If it happened in Toronto, it'd just sort of be like, there was nowhere more ambitious than New York's, is he, right? That's right. Where the money lives. If it happened in Toronto, it'd just sort of be like, fuck, fine.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Yeah. Wait, there's some kind of 11, 9 over there. We do the date around. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It took out the CN Tower. I don't even know if that's in the same city. I don't know. You know, would anyone really be impressed if it happened in like Berlin?
Starting point is 00:04:03 I don't know. Ramping a snow machine into the sea end. Crashing a plane into Bergklaid. Like the FLQ comes back. Look at the other people back. The rest are different times. We're all yeah. They've driven a Zamboti into the central branch of the Toronto Public Library. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:21 We have destroyed your precious cotton network tower. Yeah. We have destroyed your precious cartoon network tower. How will you get access to Edward Edward and Edward now? Oh, so, Maddie, I think you'd like to refer to that. What? It's French, I didn't think. Raffer us to find the bit that obliterates all those three minutes in and we just have to be stealing up maple syrup around the cycle weeks. It won't go back to normal for a decade.
Starting point is 00:05:02 It's going to be sticky for us from now on. We call it a sixth KB arrival. Yeah. And it's not even talking about what the ashes do to the escarpment. And it's wine production. Oh, yeah. Oh, so I thank you not to refer to that time. Someone ran for the Zamboni in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:05:20 I'm like, like, like, very emotional thing for Toronto. It's a privilege to be allowed to drive the Zamboni. I'm like, like, very emotional thing for Toronto. It's a privilege to be allowed to drive the Zambadian. I'm betrayed that. That was glass all over something called Blore Street. It's awful. One of the worst streets in all of North America. All right. All right.
Starting point is 00:05:39 All right. Saffling down. Oh boy. All right. Let's, uh, producers note, uh, sorry. Just, just, Toronto, a city where every day someone can open a business or ramp a Zamboni into the library. 9-11 in Toronto would be they would just like attack Drake's house and on York Street.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Yeah. Yeah. It's actually where they filmed 9-11. Uh, it was Toronto. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's probably, I bet they filmed like World Trade Central, one of the 9-11 movies in Toronto. Positive.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Alhamdulillah, we found it more tax-efficient, Clayton, to do 9-11-2. Well, if the Saudis love anything besides 9-11, it is tax-evation, so. Yeah, true. All right, all right. Oh, my goodness. I have another very exciting announcement. This is I'm putting on my, you know, my nerd hat that I got from think geek.com. Mm hmm. Very nice spinning propeller there. Yeah, spin a little propeller. I want to those British road safety campaigns like think bike, we're like too many geeks again, run.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Like, is there a slightly fat man waddling out of games workshop? Check your real well. Well, it's a games workshop is in the news because they're giving games workshop the game of thrones treatment and they're going to officially absorb warhead or 40,000 into the broad popular unconscious, which I think is hilarious. Are they going to do an open casting for whoever gets to play the tape measure? Is there a tape news that how they know it's 40,000? Where does the tape measure?
Starting point is 00:07:19 I don't know, it's all your leisure. I went to Gabe's workshop once and they had the tape measure out and I found it very funny and no one I'm the purest form of experiencing warhammer seeing other people playing it and leaving. I Did mention the play it's the stupidest thing about it. Yeah, this is this is really interesting to me though Because it speaks it speaks to things to me right one You're trying to make a commercial property out of something that is authentically Weirder than a lot of other stuff like if you're a teenage boy and you're used to like marvel like late stage marvel and then They do a halfway faithful to the vibe adaptation of this. It's just gonna like detonate your entire brain pan
Starting point is 00:07:56 Yeah, which is fun. I'm observing my little Nergal death marine here like look. They're gonna hell yeah Your dad isn't gonna like this Yeah, and the other thing the other thing is though that I think it bespeaks, I think we're running out of stuff to adapt, right? I mean, you're a town cryer at it. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking.
Starting point is 00:08:15 A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking.
Starting point is 00:08:23 A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. A lot of people speaking. will think to do to be a writer. Plus everything post 2022 is contaminated by AI anyway, which means if you have done anything creative prior to 2022, you are now in the elect, your shit will be absorbed sooner or later because it's the only stuff we have that we know is like not fucked to do and is still human-orthened. We're just going to like pull all of it until we run out. We're going to get AI rightly. I, finally, what I remember, what I, what I remember though is like, because I was, I was always a big like game of Thrones fan
Starting point is 00:08:50 in like the early 2000s back when I was trying to evangelize it as no, it's not like a Lord of the Rings is different. The Ring is different. Mm. Yes. Thank you. And then seeing that get absorbed into like the broad popular unconscious, you could sort of understand it, right?
Starting point is 00:09:05 It's just a compelling fantasy series that sort of then created a bunch of Wake in which a whole bunch of other properties are made, some of which were good. It is, it is an announcement. But, you know, and now a bunch of kids are named Kaleesi, which means that there's going to be a bunch of kids named like lemon roost or like... God knows what. I know a guy called Kisie got killed in the world. He was in Toronto. He thought it was safe. The kid went to my garden with his
Starting point is 00:09:32 amony. It's how he is vehicle. That was Italian 9-11 and to Carlisie's friends, right 9-11 signifies the time that their friend went to Toronto and got killed by his amony and they're really annoyed and defensive that everyone else uses it to mean 9.11. I told him not to go to that Brian Adams concert but the funny thing is, there's a Brian Adams Drake double headlight and the Zamboni just fucking decides through that crowd is brutal. People had only minutes to get out of the way. My friend Carl was completely resourced. He's completely packed and just like, oh, sorry, excuse me, I'll buy you the just. Just do an open casket.
Starting point is 00:10:17 He was perfectly smooth. The skin was reflective. You know getting hit by a Zamboni's got to feel good as hell for the first couple of seconds, right? You know getting hit by a Zamboni's got to feel good as hell for the first couple of seconds, right?
