Starting point is 00:00:47 Conditions apply. Limited time offer. Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the Triforce. Cue Christmas music. Jingle bell, jingle bell. Jingle time. Oh. Certainly feeling. You want the angelic one.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Festive. No, I'll get Tom to put some in the background. We don't have to. Let's just sing it. Okay. No, forget it. Well, let's do that. I can't.
Starting point is 00:01:18 You do the bass. You do the backing. Ba-boom, boom, boom. Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock. Ba-boom, jingle bell. Like that, you you mean give me a lick what's that what what song are you singing jingle bell rock that's the jingle bell rock that one oh it's the right time it's the right time you sound like an american like crooner from a lounge singer from yeah yeah oh there's something cozy
Starting point is 00:01:48 about that like the lounge the lounge vibe yeah i think it's royalty free is probably why richard cheese right you know richard cheese he does all like those cocktail lounge sort of uh versions of songs like welcome to the jungle and uh i think he did like a couple of Nirvana songs. Gin and Juice I think he did by Snoop Dogg. Does anyone remember Mike Flowers Pops? No. There was a thing called Loungecore in the mid to late 90s in the UK. Any old man, an old woman out there will remember uh mike flowers pops did a
Starting point is 00:02:27 cover of oasis's wonderwall but it was like you're my wonder wall oh yeah like that i remember that one that that's very richard cheese sounding as well it's the boop boop you're my wonder i remember that yeah so that that was like the the suddenly loads of old compilation albums were coming out with all these old sort of 60s and 70s classics and i now feel like i was going man this old music is great made my parents and older people feel oh that's not even that old. Like the same way I feel now when people think of early 2000s music as retro. It's like, it's not even fucking 20 years old, but now I get it.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I was that kid. When people are like, oh, the Spice Girls are retro, I guess they kind of are really, but like it does, it's still, it doesn't feel like that long ago really, but it was a really long time ago. It's not that long ago, damn it.
Starting point is 00:03:24 I think there's this there's a lot of i i don't know for me like retro is is unrecognizable like like those crooners staring at the microphone with their we really weird clothes haircuts stylings you know like it doesn't feel to me all that foreign the spice girls that that idea of retro right because i was i guess i was alive there and it was normal for me yeah but the the way like this is looking like the 80s punk haircuts and stuff i don't know all of that stuff does seem seems even more distant yeah it seems like another world you know i think if you look at the spice girls certainly you would say that what they're wearing and the sort of fashion sensibilities early 2000s were obviously different from now.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Sure. But they're not as wildly different as, like Lewis says, the haircuts. Like you look at stuff in the 80s, all the dudes had gigantic glasses and a mustache. And huge hair too, right? Huge hair. Puffy hair. Big puffy hair, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:20 So that was, you know, very 80s. I would say you don't see too many people looking like that apart from hipsters. They all have their little mustache. No offense, Lulu. Obviously, you're doing it for charity. You just got a mustache. Yeah, and I noticed that. You got a mustache.
Starting point is 00:04:34 It's weird looking back, though, because you always sort of, well, for me especially, I associate the 80s with being really jivey and, you know, the fashion and everything being kind of weird. But I don't so much the 90s and i think it's because i was a teenager in the 90s and i thought i was really cool at the time yeah maybe when i look back at the fashion of the 90s like it i don't see it as jivey but then if you watch a tv show like a documentary about some stuff that happened in the 90s and you see the shit that people are wearing and how they're acting and talking and stuff you realize that actually in a lot of ways the 90s was worse than the 80s it was pretty bad it was pretty bad yeah i said i think the difference is the
Starting point is 00:05:13 fashion of the 80s they at least looked like they were having fun you know what i mean yeah like huge hair neon bright colors everything's kind of outrageous then the 90s and everyone's just wearing a lumberjack shirt and baggy jeans it's like everything's so terrible like it was just the that was the era that was the vibe of the time right yeah it was like the slacker era yeah you're right oh do you know what sorry go ahead i want to talk about a tv show i was watching as well so you go yeah can i talk about one that i'm watching too yeah let's take's take turns. Okay, you go first. Me? I'm going to eat this banana. You carry on.
Starting point is 00:05:47 You eat the banana. I'm exhausted, by the way. Just recall, you carry on. You carry on, you do you. It's all right. I took the night off last night. I didn't go out, and I stayed in and watched a TV show called The Lazarus Project, which I think is like a TV show made for Sky.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Not particularly good, but it had an interesting idea. And the setup that you learn, no spoilers, it's been around for a year or two now. So there will be spoilers, sorry. The idea is that this guy, it's July 1st when the show starts, he's going to go and pitch a, he's got a meeting with the bank
Starting point is 00:06:21 about getting a loan to start an app company. He starts the app company and then his girlfriend gets pregnant. Then all of a sudden, I think something happens, but we all wind back. And we're all right back at July 1st, kind of Groundhog Day-ish. Right. But he's like, what the fuck happened? And he's walking around.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Oh, that's it. There was a huge outbreak of a disease, like COVID 2.0, but even worse sort of thing. Right. And loads of people dying and his pregnant girlfriend gets sick and she's like, she's dying and everything. And then it flashes back and he's back at July 1st and it's never happened. But he still remembers everything that happened, but nobody else does.
Starting point is 00:06:56 So it's like he's rewinded time for a do-over, but nobody else is aware that this is happening. And he's losing his fucking mind. He's trying to come up with a cure. He's like, he's battening down the hatches. He's buying all canned food. He drives his girlfriend mad. And then it all winds back again. He's like, what the fuck is going on?
Starting point is 00:07:13 And he gets approached by this mysterious woman who says, I know what's happening. Like, I know why this is happening to you and everything. And she explains that they're part of something called the Lazarus Project. And they have the ability to wind time back to a fixed point. And they very quickly get him in to the Lazarus Project because it turns out he's a mutant. One of the few people who can remember that they've wound time back. Otherwise, people have to have a special sort of thing injected in them so they can see it.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Some people just accidentally mutate it. So he experiences the time that's been rewind he doesn't lose it everybody else loses it so they're like well you have to join lazarus project so he joins it and it's basically right away you realize that this is ridiculous because there's like a checkpoint somewhere in the orbit of the sun or of the moon the earth around the sun and when they pass that, it's sort of like a save state, like a checkpoint, right? So up until the point they go through the checkpoint, they can press a button and rewind back. It could be nine months or something like that.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Immediately, I was like, wow, this is going to lead to an awful lot of problems for the people that can remember what happened. So let's think of some of the problems that there might be. that can remember what happened. So, let's think of some of the problems that there might be. Number one, if you have a relationship with someone that you met in the last few months, and then they rewind time, that person's not going to remember you. Holy shit, really? Yeah. That's got to be kind of good though, right? Like, in some ways that could be really good. Yeah, but you might fall in love.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Yeah, but then you can just fall in love all over again right no you see that's it might work again you just go through the same steps you just bill murray at groundhog day right you could you could but now here's here's another problem okay um what if you have a child right you conceive a child right and then they rewind you you've now longer you've now no longer got that baby right one Right. One of the main characters has exactly this problem. She has to go through childbirth. It's like a try before you buy, right? Like you might have the baby and realize, holy shit, why did we have this baby?
Starting point is 00:09:14 And then the time rewind happens. You're like, holy crap. You don't have the baby anymore. They didn't set anything in motion that is like, okay, none of you can have a relationship with each other. Because the other thing is they're all secret agents. So, they have to go off around the world and do dangerous stuff. And sometimes they die. Right.
Starting point is 00:09:31 And they're like, you've got to bring it back. You've got to wait about time. And they're like, we can't do that. That's not how it works. There's a show on Netflix that was like, sounds similar to this. I don't think it is the Lazarus Project, though. I think it's called something else because it's been out a while. I think there's like six seasons of it. There's like time traveling crime solving or something, I think. But it's almost like a secret society of time travelers
Starting point is 00:09:55 that do this or I don't know, man. It's just I got to say there's all kinds of problems. The time travel thing is fun, right? It's fun. It's a lot of fun. It was fun and dark. Man, it was fun and dark. I liked that time travel. That was cool. Dark wasn't much fun, though, was it? It was very plodding. It was a little slow. It was awesome, though.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Fuck. Well, I think the way Dark did it was quite clever. They had like three different time periods. Yes. But time was moving, carried on moving. Yes. In them, right? Yes. While together. And affecting all the different timelines and stuff.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Yes. So you couldn't really go, you couldn't go back in time in those specific time zones. But obviously you could change things a long way in the future. Yeah. By passing messages forward. And it's, I like, I like timeline stuff with solid rules, and I don't like it when they either try and poorly address paradoxes or have such loose rules that you're constantly like, why don't they just go back in time? And if there is a time machine and it was that easy to invent, what happens in the future when other people invent time machines? You've got to think that there's an infinite future ahead.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Well, potentially, maybe humanity destroys itself imminently. So only this one time machine gets made, you know. That's a pretty grim way to look at a story. Were you a teeterhead in that one? A big fan of Herr Teeterman? Teeterman. Teeterman. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Well, if you like, you should watch 1899. Yeah, I heard it's really good. I'm going gonna start watching it made dark yeah one of the nice things about it is actually it's like a mystery thing right there's like it like it unfolds that there's like it's got lost vibes
Starting point is 00:11:36 things about it so I'm intrigued that you guys I might watch it if you guys well I watched the first one and I I thought it was a wild ride. I like mystery. I like weird stuff, though. I like something that-
Starting point is 00:11:50 Like Dark Times with Paul and Monroe? God, it's so bad. Dark Times. What do you say, Monroe? Okay, Jingle Jam is going on at the moment. We're halfway through. Sips just did a stream this week with Lydia where where he played poem dark times in the jingle jam collection which will be over by the time but thank you for the support no problem everyone we love you yeah no worries um it was great a great
Starting point is 00:12:15 time so far but oh my god it's poker today and me and pfx are already exhausted going in um if you need to edit out me saying that poeme and monroe wasn't good you go ahead no you could say whatever you want about it i think it's kind of it's endearing in ways it's it's kind of cheesy it doesn't have to be perfect it can be cheesy bad and still contradiction was was cheesy bad but still enjoyable right i really enjoyed contradiction it was hilarious contradiction is a fantastic game i just found you can't but you can't compare okay but poe and monroe the strength of poe and monroe is that if you're playing it with a friend and you're just laughing along uh like at it together with it it can be very fun like i i think me and lydia had fun playing it because it was so silly. Like, it really is silly. It really is.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Really quite silly. It's very, very silly. But I think there's a lot of these games, there's a lot of other FMV games like that, Sips, that are very silly. It's like, I mean, there's been a couple on Netflix almost, you know, like these digital, play along sort of games, right,
Starting point is 00:13:22 where there's a lot of weird FMV stuff stuff and you can kind of so you know how some people some youtubers go through one of those um games with the quick time events and they deliberately fail all the quick time events and it is hilarious to see the game put in all of these because some of them are basically you could you could imagine only like one percent of people or people who like had a broken controller would have failed that QuickTime event because it was so easy. It was like someone's opening a packet of crisps and you fail the fucking QuickTime event to open the packet.
Starting point is 00:13:52 I don't even get what the QuickTime events in Poe and Monroe are. It's just a circle that you click on, but like it never makes sense. Like what happens after you click on the circle never makes any sense or relates back to the circle that you've clicked on it feels like yeah that's right so so yeah so you'll be in a room and there'll be like a perfume bottle yeah you click on it and there's no mention of it ever again like and you click on you click on what and they'll be like oh you need the toilet then it'll be like something completely unrelated yeah um but i don know. That's part of the charm of these. It's nice to just play something different, I think.
Starting point is 00:14:28 It is. I'm glad you enjoyed it, even though Beeflax has been hating on it for ages. You're welcome to hate on stuff. Oh, thank you. It is the best game ever. Fill your boots. It's funny. It's funny.
Starting point is 00:14:40 I got to say, I have been enjoying the World Cup. I like to watch the uh the big tournament it's nice and i've been following it yeah i've been enjoying it and uh it's led me down a couple of rabbit holes i started watching um fever pitch the rise of the premier league documentary series on iplayer it's actually really good it is interesting it's really interesting yeah really interesting so i've been watching that that was sky sky was uh when b sky b as it used to be known yes uh came out it was um yeah it was like they had they had the 300 million bucks they had the show hi all honey i'm home which was a sitcom about hitler as a 19 sort of 50s uh house husband or you know worker man
Starting point is 00:15:23 and the whole joke was he would come home and say hi honey i'm home you can look this up find all the episodes on youtube pretty sure we've spoken about it in uh in an older triforce but um that was like one of the shows that they put out like they were making dog shit like that yeah it was it b sky b was like a joke yeah people were like wow this is the future of broadcasting and now it's because of the premier league it literally that yeah the sky sports package actually turned them into what they became yeah i changed football people getting dishes installed on the sides of their houses and stuff absolutely is that what this series is about like skies yeah it's the well the formation of the premier league in 92 right kind of like the the
Starting point is 00:16:02 more recent failed super league um that's that that is more or less how the premier league started as well it was just the top top five top five clubs got together and said let's break away uh make a new legal entity make our own league and make a shit ton of money off the back of it and uh that's what they did and uh right and then it just interviews a bunch of the players that were sort of involved with the bigger clubs at the time and um and yeah we got so fortunate because yeah if you were like 21 when the premier league launched you were gonna make over the course of the next say 14 15 years if you were a good player yeah way way more money than you would have if you just missed out so the guys who were like 32 when the
Starting point is 00:16:46 premier league launched must have been thinking why couldn't this have happened a decade ago yeah yeah they were already coming up to the end of their careers and all the young guys were pulling up in their ferraris and whatever yeah making uh you know 20 grand a week or whatever and and stuff it was although you know what i discovered recently um some someone was mentioning i think when i was streaming or maybe it was someone in the pub they said that um these young players now when they sign these contracts um they don't get all the money when they're teenagers no it's a bit like uh it's a bit like when you're it's like joffrey baratheon you know like uh you can't you you can't you can't run before you walk
Starting point is 00:17:26 sort of thing so uh i think it's i think it's put into trust until they're old enough to actually know what to do with it sort of thing you know like otherwise they just spend it because some of these guys are some of these guys are joining these clubs like they like the youth divisions of these clubs and are still they're being taken care of but then when they're sort of 16 17 and they're moving up into like the the bigger clubs that's when they're they're getting paid money right but they're still too young to really receive that much money like yeah i don't know i mean so there's a whole bunch of weird things with youth footballers um it used to be that if a club produced a footballer they owned that footballer's contract and if it was a really promising young player you'd get a
Starting point is 00:18:05 few years of him playing at your club yeah then a big club would come in and buy him yeah but now these youth academies like chelsea and man city and everything scouring the planet for the next yeah for the next big thing and hoovering them up yeah and you get like a little bit of compensation money and then this lad is whisked off well they whisk you off right and like yeah you know like ronaldo messi all those guys were the same they were scooped up when they were sort of like 12 years old whisked off to a big club's youth division but you know they were not so much not ronaldo so much because he started in portugal so he did start just playing for a youth team of portugal sporting right sporting lisbon so he wasn't like snapped up by Barcelona or someone.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Yeah, Messi had to move like all the way over to Spain, right? But like his family relocated everything. I watched a documentary about Messi as well. Yeah, I see. It's a pretty good one. And I started watching one about Gaza as well, which I know of him, but I just don't know much about him. Oh, it's fascinating.
Starting point is 00:19:07 It's actually like all of this stuff is very, again, 90s, right? Yeah. And like of a different world. In a sense, like I've been watching like in the background, like I watched the Spice Girls music video. I was like, yikes. And then I watched it like was like recommended stuff. It was like, yikes. And then I watched it. It was like recommended stuff. It's like Britney Spears.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Oh, yeah. Do you know what I mean? Like these like things from that day. And it does look weirdly familiar, but also like the Britney Spears one and even the Spice Girls stuff isn't like the most out of place today. But I think what is familiar... I think some stuff today is really crazy, though. We have had such an explosion of stuff.
Starting point is 00:19:54 Looking at from all of those young Xanax-addicted rappers who were 16 with face tattoos, addicted rappers who were like 16 with face tattoos yeah yeah yeah through through to like the the tiktok people and random i mean it's it's weird if people would in 20 years time looking back on what we've got now some of it is pretty fucking otherworldly right now yeah right i mean some of it at the time it's it's all in relation to what's happening at the time and stuff too though right like uh i don't know it's weird that some stuff in the 90s has dated, has aged poorly, but then some stuff hasn't at all, right? Like, I can still listen to like Nirvana, for example, you know, who haven't created music since 94 or whatever, but the music doesn't feel dated at all you know what i mean like it it's like it feels like an older style but it doesn't it doesn't sound like jivey or anything or maybe that's just because i like it i don't know but uh same with like a lot of
Starting point is 00:20:54 early hip-hop and stuff i don't find it sounds jivey but maybe kids now do find that jivey i don't know it's it's it's i think it's just relative of the uh of the court record could you define jivey well it's like uh it's like it's kind of like you listen to something and it makes you like cringe a bit you know like because you thought it was really cool at some point but then you you then go on to realize oh hang on a second like that was that was not ever yeah that was a lot of a lot of brit pop and stuff like that. It sounds jivey. If you're looking for a gift this Christmas, I recommend the Aura Frame.
Starting point is 00:21:30 I've bought one for my parents, and I think it's very cool. It's like a digital photo frame, and we got one in the office. I've mentioned it before, but basically you can share a folder, upload pictures, and they will just automatically scroll through. You can change the speed and stuff and do it manually as well, or just keep it on one picture. But it's really, really cool. We got one in the office.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Pirian's got one. I use mine all the time. Here's a nice thing that it does for us. When I'm away, I send my wife pictures of where I am and who I'm with, like just to say, hey, check out this, check out that. And, you know, people will sort of read a picture and oh you know nice thanks for the picture but I know the one she really likes because I then get the notification she's put it on the aura frame so I now know that that's going around in the kitchen did you get that picture of you with the adult uh actress that you met on the aura frame that one didn't get said oh but yes uh if you're looking for a gift
Starting point is 00:22:27 this christmas uh you could save 30 off or as best-selling frames using the code triforce and that's aura a u r a frames.com slash triforce they usually sell out every december apparently uh so get yours now before they're all gone. And I saved like five quid, I think, on it with a honey coupon. A honey coupon. Starting point is 00:24:26 And save yourself some money buying Christmas presents. Save yourself a bit of dosh. Just buying stuff. Right. There you go. Brilliant stuff. On with the show. On with the show.
Starting point is 00:24:38 So, okay. So, 2022, Spotify's thing just came out where they said who are the most streamed artists, right? Who is the most streamed artist on Spotify? Don't look it up. Billy Eilish. 18.5 billion streams. No, Billy Eilish doesn't even make the list. It has never made the list.
Starting point is 00:24:58 All right. Are they English language primarily? Oh, that's a great question, actually. And I think the answer is no. I gotta say it's gonna be like one of those guys like rapper T.I. or whatever. It's like one of those hip-hop artists that gamers listen to, I think is gonna be the highest uptick in listens, right? Because people will have that on in the background while they're playing League of Legends and stuff.
Starting point is 00:25:27 That's what I think. But Lewis is saying it's someone from sort of non-American, non-European language. So not... Oh, maybe it's like, is it like K-pop or something? Could be BTS. BTS is actually fifth on the list. So we're getting there.
Starting point is 00:25:42 Okay. But the other four you should well some of these you should have definitely heard of before okay so no we've got it we got it we got it we got to drag this out um let him guess let the man guess you've definitely heard of of a couple so billy eilish is not in there not in in the top five. No, and I don't think it's ever been on. Is Adele in there? No, no way. Rightfully so.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Rightfully so. Am I right? Yeah. Let me think. She's the 13th streamed of all time, though. Holy crap. There you go. It's going to be, is it something from like South America?
Starting point is 00:26:19 Tell me it's not fucking, it's not Coldplay or some shit like that. Coldplay not in the top. Coldplay 16th all time. Dave Matthews, Ben. Please tell me it's not Coldplay or some shit like that. Coldplay not in the top. Coldplay 16th all time. Dave Matthews, Ben. Please tell me it's not Dave Matthews. Thank God for that. Jesus. Drake. Drake is number three most streamed in 2022.
Starting point is 00:26:38 I always forget about Drake. Number one streamed of all time on Spotify. Drake is. Not Kanye. Kanye is 12th on the list of all time, Spotify. Drake is. Not Kanye. Kanye's 12th on the list of all time, but not on this year. Kendrick Lamar? Kendrick Lamar, not on the list. No, not at all.
Starting point is 00:26:55 What's that guy's name? Lil Wayne. What? Lil Wayne. What about Lil Uzi Vert? He went off on his own, right? Lil Uzi Vert. Oh was in a group, but then he went off on his own, right? Lil Uzi Vert. Oh, wait, Ed Sheeran.
Starting point is 00:27:13 Okay, now, Ed Sheeran isn't in this year again, but he used to be big. Taylor Swift has to be up there as well, right? Taylor Swift, yes, is number two this year. She is fourth overall with 40 million streams. So it's like Rihanna or something like that then. So number five is BTSts number four is the week the weekend the weekend the weekend yeah he's very big yeah yeah he's um blinded by the light you know that one he's got a lot of very famous souls yeah yeah i'm sure and um i've heard of him uh yeah drake taylor swift he's a canadian guy too the weekend i think i think he's canadian i think he's Canadian Drake is too, right?
Starting point is 00:27:46 Drake is a Canuck as well But number one for the last three years Is someone called Bad Bunny Who? I have never heard of I've never heard of Bad Bunny Let's look this up Is it a kids thing?
Starting point is 00:27:59 No, we're so old, lads He is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer Oh His music is defined as Latin trap and reggaeton see I knew it would be something like that I knew it would be something like trap or something that
Starting point is 00:28:14 I feel like it's something gamers listen to right? because they're going to be the ones who are sitting at a computer for 12 hours a day playing some game and listening to this stuff right? I think you're overestimating the impact of gamers on the charts i think this is just normies are listening to this really i don't think normies listen to spotify all day like a gamer i bet they fucking do you think yeah
Starting point is 00:28:37 yeah i think i think this is not driven by gamers spotify is huge platform for everyone no i know the thing about it is it's it's the nice thing about spotify is that it's people choose often what they listen to or at least if they listen to playlists yeah it's it's i mean it's gonna be what was your what was your guys uh top five for for 2022 did you do your unwrapped um i might have done i don't know i think mine's a bit weird mine was a little all over the place as well but I was listening to a lot of the same stuff because I did a huge binge on Satisfactory and I was listening to like I want to say like eight or nine albums just in like an album playlist over and over and over because it was like the spread was enough where I didn't get sick of any one particular
Starting point is 00:29:20 album but like when it when it would flop over to the other album i i would know like when the change was sort of thing but it was just easy to listen to in the background that sort of dominated my my 2022 list my 22 list is the longest johns well like sea shanties yeah well i've listened to their album obviously and i've had that and that's i guess it's been recommended a bunch but also it's mostly like metal stuff right the same sips but i like to listen you just like to listen to metal instead to heavy metal when i'm doing that factory stuff yeah my top was czar face which is like a like a hip-hop uh group composed of um two two guys who are in a separate group and then one member of wu-tang which is like it's kind of like a soft czar face yeah i listen cz cz a r f a c like scarface but if it was in russia and then my second uh most listened to was mf doom who's also a rapper oh yeah mf rest in peace rest in peace yeah uh but
Starting point is 00:30:26 then my third most listened was the beatles uh my fourth was uh i think it was elo and then my fifth was me first in the gimme gimme's who are a punk super group that do cover songs uh so there you go okay yeah my is this group called my number one for some reason this group called rave the requiem but spelled wrong with a v instead of of course and i don't know why but it just it i think it's because i i do like i find a song and then i have like song radio and i'm like play songs like this until i get sort of sick of that song radio I like artist radio too is really nice yeah and I go into like I go into just like similar yeah stuff and it's I don't know it's a bit of a rabbit hole but I find that helps like refine down I find like if
Starting point is 00:31:18 I do like artist radio though like those though the radio things are are kind of curated as well i feel like because i think i get the same things like if i if i do like artist radio on nirvana for example i'll get songs by hole songs by the butthole surfers songs by uh sound garden and the smashing pumpkins almost exclusively like there's not really much in between it's like it's almost just like those four or five bands they're they're top songs like in a play which is not bad i guess you know like it's it's a good spread but like i'm not a huge smashing pumpkins fan like i i wasn't a fan of them at the time yeah they're okay like yeah yeah yeah thanks very much thanks what other genres
Starting point is 00:32:05 your so it's like it's just like old school gangster rap is that your he's into grunge and OG rap
Starting point is 00:32:13 yeah that's it which is what I grew up listening to yeah so it's my taste in music
Starting point is 00:32:19 has not changed since my teens pretty much no me neither I'm still into melodic metal and video game music they're the two ones so my my spotify i share the account with my daughters right so you're gonna be all over the damn place my youngest had a massive abba trip uh okay it's
Starting point is 00:32:42 not a bad trip to go on though they. They've got some not-bad money. She was in the top 1% of ABBA listeners in the world. Okay, well, listen, I was in the top 0.1% of CzarFace listeners in 2022. I'm like a super fan. I wonder if they would get this info, you know? Maybe they could share the info with the guys. Yeah, I'm sure they'd be thrilled to find out. Who is this guy that listens to us incessantly in his car?
Starting point is 00:33:12 Everything. This is exactly what Hank Green was talking about when he thought about revisioning YouTube Rewind. I watched Vlogbrothers on YouTube um they sometimes have really really good ideas and one of them i think is re reimagining youtube we rewind like spotify wrapped so you could see who which channels you've watched the most which ones you've engaged with how many hours you've spent like that kind of stats would be really interesting to know right and then also you know if you were in the top one percent of someone's viewers maybe you you would be able to send them a message or they would be able to see you you know and you were in the top one percent of someone's viewers maybe you you would be able to send them a message or they would be able to see you you know and you would be able to interact
Starting point is 00:33:49 with people who are interacting with your channel in a way that you know would be i don't know healthy and wholesome you know um unless that unless i mean unless the 0.1 percent of your viewers are coming on every video calling you a cunt i I don't know. I doubt that's the case, though. I just feel like YouTube Rewind has suffered from the fragmentation of the content that we have. You know, the fact that we don't know who the most streamed artist on Spotify is is not surprising nowadays, right?
Starting point is 00:34:18 Back in the day, you know, even five years ago, when it was people that were much more familiar to us, you know, whether it was... Whereas Bad Bunny's Tite Me Pregunto, Un Verano Sin Ti, with 569 million views. Yes, gracias. Never heard of it.
Starting point is 00:34:37 And I listened to it and it's not for me. I don't like it. Sorry, Bad Bunny fans. I know I'm in the minority. But neither is, for me, neither is almost anyone on this. I'm not a big fan of Drake, Post Malone, Ariana Grande. Honestly, I know of Drake, but if you played me any sequence of songs and there was a Drake song in there and somebody asked me to pick out the Drake song,
Starting point is 00:35:00 I would not know. I could not recognize any of his songs, I don't think. Here, I can tell you exactly how to tell that it's a Drake song I would not know I could not recognize any of his songs I don't think here I can I can tell you exactly how to tell that it's a Drake song right it'll be a very pared down production very simple beat and then he'll be like yo hey and loads of vocoder like and then it'll I mean you're describing like almost every modern song I've ever heard. No, no, it's so stripped down. That's Drake.
Starting point is 00:35:29 That's what you've been hearing. What's his most famous song? Will I have heard it, do you think? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Okay, what is it? A hundred times in every supermarket and everywhere. Because I've heard songs by The Weeknd.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Because he did that one uh he did the the one i was singing before the blinded by the light one but then there's another one that he had as well right which is pretty big so hotline bling all the memes hotline bling was him okay but how does that song go because i don't i'm not sure i'm familiar with it it goes like all other drake songs like the one which he just did yeah hang on i'm gonna i'm gonna put it on just to see if i'm familiar with it because it would should have been played on the radio hotline hotline bling that is an older one as well seven years's seven years old. Hotline Bling. Okay, I'm listening to it right now.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Oh my God, this is so... You're right, I'm listening to it now. This is... It's such a... I see, he has such a... It's almost like the most generic music, isn't it? It's super stripped back, like in terms of... I'm not even sure I've ever heard this the the style
Starting point is 00:36:46 though is recognizable right because but i feel like this just melds into like a million other songs that i might have heard recently that's it that because they all copy drake that's the whole point is that drake came along and he did this with the auto-tuned voice super stripped back did this with the auto-tuned voice super stripped back baseline and and riffs very very under produced in the sense that it's not all like sort of huge flashing lights and bells and whistles it's a very simple beat and him auto-tuned with various and him just sort of almost mumbling the lyrics yeah that's it yeah like that that's all of now. And even Snoop has come out and said, this is not for me. I'm fucking sick of all this mumble rap shit.
Starting point is 00:37:30 It's all the same. You know Elf on the Shelf? You've heard of Elf on the Shelf? Do your kids get into any of that, Flax? Elf on the Shelf? Well, I was going to say what my kids listen to. One of them listens to ABBA. Okay.
Starting point is 00:37:41 The other one listens to, I don't know how to describe it. It's some kind of anime music where it's like 5,000 beats per minute. And it seems to be 50 voices all singing different words at the same time. Oh my God. And some hyperactive kind of rhythm. It's unbearable. Okay. Well. And she listens to that a lot. Elf on the Shelf is like books with these like good elves and you can get these little dolls and they come with a book. And it's like a is like a is books with these like good elves and you get these little dolls and they come with a book and it's like a you know it's like a christmas thing my kids like these elf elf on
Starting point is 00:38:10 the shelf they have all these little elves and they come with little costumes you can put them in and stuff and they get books and everything anyway um they ordered me a snoop on a stoop which was it's like an elf on the shelf but it's snoop dog and he's got a uh he's got like a weed medallion and is smoking a doobie and he's got sunglasses on but when it when it arrived just looking at pictures is hilarious when it arrived my daughter was like uh thought that he should be a naughty elf but he's not wearing the right um outfit to be an audio because the naughty elves wear a brown outfit and the good elves wear a green outfit right right so is this officially authorized snoop on a stoop has a green outfit but he's smoking which my daughter identified as not being a great thing right
Starting point is 00:38:59 is that not is that the naughty part it's the smoke my wife smoking. My wife said, we got this one for your dad so that he could have like an elf on the shelf as well that's more appropriate to him. And then my daughter looked at the toy again, looked at the medallion and said, oh, yeah, this one must be for dad because he's got a Canadian flag leaf medallion on it. Nice. It was so funny. Oh, I love that. Oh, man nice it was so funny oh i love that man it was really funny but he has to i had to take him out to the garage because my my daughter was like did not want to have like a bad smoking elf in amongst her her well-behaved elves or whatever so there you go that's that that's my story oh my god there are there are a lot a lot of TikTok memes where they'll put someone else on something else. And it's like, it's obviously meant to be a rhyming thing. So I watched one popped up on my TikTok feed today and it was some girls going onto a set of the steps that you'd see at like home depot that they
Starting point is 00:40:05 use for getting up to very high things on shelves and they got on there and he was like you know what i'm saying no i don't no and there are a lot of tiktoks that do that where they'll not give you the answer they won't give you the punch line and it must be because it forces people to comment and that's how you rise up the algorithm i think it's people gaming the system it must be because it forces people to comment. And that's how you rise up the algorithm. I think it's people gaming the system. It must be. It is gaming the system, but it's like I spoke about it before.
Starting point is 00:40:29 I call it weight bait, right? So the idea is that you watch to the end of the video, which means you enjoyed the whole thing, right? Right, so that's the SEO manipulation. That's the power, right? Like basically what will happen is, you notice this with TikToks, they they have to cut off really quick um or try and get people's watch time yeah right so make sure you watch right to the end because i will make sure you definitely get my tits out
Starting point is 00:40:56 i promise you my tits are coming out at the end of this video so watch right this always happens though if you have a system with an algorithm that encourages certain forms of content to do better it will just evolve into more of that content and that's how content will be on the platform and obviously that is that is why you have such weird stuff on tiktok that's why the tiktok stuff is like it is um because it favors content made in a certain way it's only going to get more exaggerated over time right yeah unless you unless you're playing some weird game like youtube where they're continually tweaking and changing their right right to mix it up and provide different
Starting point is 00:41:36 incentives but there's limited metrics that you can really track with tiktok other than you know how how i guess you've got how quickly they swipe away from it and how long how much of a percentage of the tiktok they watch right they're the only real things you're playing with necessarily so i mean it's the same with youtube as well but but they are you're usually working with much longer content on youtube right and so but also you have more data about when when people which parts of the video people leave on yeah um and you have like the main screen people how many people click it through that how many people are searching for it how many people are coming from off site
Starting point is 00:42:14 you know it's got a lot of different working spinning parts youtube that can all factor in whereas tiktok's so simple it's hard you know it's hard to imagine how to do it better right um especially trying to link stuff together like how to uh it very if from at least my experience it very quickly becomes um lots of repeats of similar stuff right and you can quite quickly up your or or sometimes it's very hard to even find the things that you want to, that you're interested in, right? It seems like the algorithm is not doing a great job of recommending me stuff. It's for sure.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Well, maybe you need to look for certain things. No, Sarah told me how to do it. She said the stuff you like, go in and even just like comments on the videos you like. And that counts as extra engagement. Right. And anyone that's any good, I follow straight away and try to refine down my TikTok. It's a shame you just can't type in big tits. Like I keep saying about every platform. You know?
Starting point is 00:43:15 Yeah. Well, there are other platforms for that. I just need a platform where I can turn up, type in big tits, and get what I'm looking for. You know? I think such a platform exists. Very much. Well, there's a gap in the market. There think such a platform exists. Very much. Well, there's a gap in the market. There's a gap.
Starting point is 00:43:30 You know what? There's definitely a gap there. Why is there no porn on the internet? Start a website or something with tits on it. That's a great idea. I can't be the first person that's ever thought about this. How's no one thought of this before? Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Sam Fender is my number one artist of the year on sam fender sam fender is phenomenal is that the guy who says that one um yeah is that the geordie springsteen take me to church is that the guy no who's that no i have no idea who Who sings Take Me to Church? I don't know. Oh, God, yeah. Either way, Sam Fender, the Geordie Springsteen. Brilliant. Oh, nice. Oh, you were telling us about this guy. Didn't you see him live or something? No, I wanted to. You thought he was supercharged?
Starting point is 00:44:16 No, I didn't see him. I didn't see him live. I did not see him live. Is this nominative determinism? Because his name is like the Fender guitar brand. Very famous. He got a guitar when he got given a guitar by his father when he was eight. His father was also a musician.
Starting point is 00:44:31 His father was a musician, a guitarist. Okay. I'm just saying this happens, right? Imagine your last name is Saxophone, but you're like a renowned piano player. Oh, the embarrassment. Yeah. I wonder if the interviewers would mention that. Hello, my name is
Starting point is 00:44:45 dr saxophone and i'm here to play you a little piece on my piano i've never learned i cannot play the play the saxophone you son of a bitch we want dr saxophone we want fuck you i don't know how i am Dr. Saxophone But I play the piano Fucking Dr. Saxophone Every time God what a let down Dr. Teeth That was a band wasn't it But not a dentist
Starting point is 00:45:12 Dr. Teeth Yes I'm having trouble With a molar What are you talking about Dr. Teeth was The Dr. Teeth and Electric Mayhem
Starting point is 00:45:21 Was the name of the Muppets band That's why it stuck in my head That was Dr. Teeth Of course it was Dr. Teeth Was Electric Mayhem was the name of the Muppets band. That's why it's stuck in my head. That was Dr. Teeth. Of course it was Dr. Teeth. Was the guy who played the keyboard. Animal on the drums. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Animal! Wasn't it the dog that played the keyboard? Or did he play something else? I thought he was the piano. The dog with the really floppy ears. What the hell is that guy's name? Floyd Pepper was on vocals and bass. Janice on vocals and the guitar.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Janice was the lady with the big lipstick lips. Zoot on saxophone. And later on, Lips joined the band on trumpet. Lips and occasionally Janice. Very strange. By the way, if you go to the wiki page it lists past members like it's a real band i love that there's so much lore around like uh because it's been around a while right the muppets and everything that's oh hell yeah dude it was my favorite show when i was
Starting point is 00:46:18 a kid oh me too i loved it yeah i thought it so funny. I still do think it's funny when I watch it now. It's great. It's a great show. Another show that I didn't think I would find funny still, but has me just creasing up is Beavis and Butthead. Man, fuck, it gets me every time. Like, just some of it. Like, I don't know to watch a whole episode,
Starting point is 00:46:41 but if you look at, like, clip compilations from Beavis and Butthead, holy shit, man. I'm, like'm like crying laughing it's so funny some of it is just so stupid but it's just really funny it's a classic that's this is this is a great really in a sense like i mean dr teeth in the electric mayhem was a muppet this is 1975 yeah yeah Um, so ahead of its time, all that shit. It was meant to parody prominent real life, you know, rock and jazz musicians, which I guess it really, it really does.
Starting point is 00:47:13 When you look at the Muppets, like they look like these. Yeah. Um, like it's so recognizable from like as a seventies parody. The dude who plays the saxophone looks like, like, like thin Lizzie or something you know
Starting point is 00:47:25 with the fucking yeah and shit like yeah it's it's i think i think you're thinking of ralph would you do this now ralph ralph is the dog yeah he played the piano the the blue guy with the green nose and the hat and the sunglasses who plays the saxophone what was his name well no we we were just talking about yeah i think he's zoot yeah that's zoot and then animal on the drums yeah animal on the drums that makes sense is the the guy with the really exaggerated nose and stuff who is the singer is that teeth no i no lips was the guy that's dr teeth that's dr keyboard oh dr and then janice was this was uh oh yeah janice a bit like duncan she's got like a janice is a little bit like all the 80s like bonnie tyler um yes like i don't know like you know type she reminds me of that girl from uh like in some ways that girl from that
Starting point is 00:48:22 70s show uh i can't remember her name now. The, uh, she's like kind of tall and she has like a deeper voice. I think it's just cause she has a deeper voice, but I don't know. She always reminded me of her for some reason. Have you seen, well, talking about retro things becoming modern, that 70s show is now that 90s show? Yeah. Wasn't there one in between, but one of the, one of the, of the cast members was like a serial killer or something?
Starting point is 00:48:48 I don't remember that. Was it cancelled or something? Obviously, the original That 70s Show group of like, what was it, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis. Well, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are married now, right? I'm pretty sure they are married. I thought he was married to Demi Moore. Anyway, there was a bunch of people in the original one. Yeah, no, that fizzled out a long time ago, apparently.
Starting point is 00:49:09 If you're a bit rusty on your Ashton Kutcher lore, I kind of lost track of him after Dude, Where's My Car? But he's done a couple of bits and pieces since, I'm pretty sure. Anyway, it had, what's his name? He was in um hang on i could look it up kurtwood smith he was in um yes the guy who was the guy bobby he was the baddie robocop he was baddie robocop but also he was that's that's the that was red right the uh the dad the baddie have you seen patriot the patriot no it's cool it's a it's a tv show called patriot no it's like a it's
Starting point is 00:49:47 like a comedy drama it's like a black comedy right and it's got kurtwood smith as this boss at this engineering firm called mcmillan who make yeah you know spinning wash flanges for for pipes he's just he that he is so typecast into those roles, right? I know. He's just like a... He's just like a hard-burned CEO. The angry dad who is the manager at a... That's right. ...box company or whatever.
Starting point is 00:50:12 Exactly. And so he is like... They're like a piping firm installing industrial pipes Wasn't he in Total Recall as well? Wasn't he the bad guy in Total Recall? No. Or was that a different guy? That was... Fuck me. Oh,? No. Or was that a different guy? That was...
Starting point is 00:50:25 Fuck me. Oh, my God. What was his name? Michael Ironside. Something like that. Oh, it might have been. Yeah. Don't they look kind of similar, though?
Starting point is 00:50:35 That was Michael Ironside. Not particularly. I mean, they're both slap-ins. Not particularly. But I see where you're going from. They've got a similar vibe. Anyway, Kurtwood Smith is fantastic in the in patriot and i really really enjoyed it i thought it was a great show but i recommend you watch it it's very very
Starting point is 00:50:49 funny you're thinking of ronnie cox what's the deal with that 70s show the guy who always wore the sunglasses here there was some controversy around him right didn't he like kill somebody or like uh or or something when you go back this far. Who's Ronnie Cox? They're either dead. The guy you're thinking of. A predator or they've disappeared. Something's going to have happened to him
Starting point is 00:51:15 over the last 50 years. Ronnie Cox. That's not... Okay, I've looked up Ronnie Cox. Ronnie Cox is an old ass man. He looks like Bob Hope. You were talking about someone that was in Total Recall. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:26 This was the bad guy in Total Recall. This was the bad guy. He was in, this guy, Ronnie Cox was in, wasn't he in Robocop as well? He was the bad guy in Robocop. He always played these kind of assholes. Yeah, yeah. No, but wait. So, okay, hold on.
Starting point is 00:51:38 Total Recall. Sorry, okay. You carry on. I have to just look something up here. Okay, Sharon Stone. Yeah, Michael Ironside. That's who I was thinking of. Michael Ironside.
Starting point is 00:51:47 But Ronnie Cox was the main villain. Yes, yeah. Michael Ironside was like the tip of his spear. Rachel Tequotin was his fantasy woman on Mars. Right. But Sharon Stone in an early role. Very hot in that movie, Sharon Stone. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:02 I'm looking at a picture of Sharon Stone now and she does not look that great. But I mean- Well, she's an old lady now, Christ. She's getting on a little bit, right? She looks fantastic. Okay, what's the guy's name from that 70s show? That 70s show cast. She's 64!
Starting point is 00:52:18 Okay, hang on a second. Sharon Stone doesn't look that great. Dude, she's 64! Danny Masterson. Okay, what happened to Danny Masterson? He was in court for some reason. Oh, okay, yeah. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:52:31 This is it. I remember hearing something, but okay, now it's all become clear. Sharon Stone looks amazing. She's 64. She looks amazing. You guys are fucking crazy. Oh, God. No, no, it's just one picture
Starting point is 00:52:46 that i just looked at that sometimes like if you do a search do a google uh search for total recall cast and it gives you like that sequence of images sometimes it just picks like like the picture of michael ironside there is not a flattering picture either i would say and also arnold schwarzenegger with a big beard um you know like there's there's oh i see the picture you're looking at yeah yeah she looks like petrified or something yeah she she looks she looks but she she looks uh very thin and untanned yeah but damn she was co-hagen so cohegan lori quaid that's such a good yeah get your ass to mars yeah get your ass to mars get your ass to mars yeah get your ass to mars
Starting point is 00:53:25 there's only been a trailer for the that 90s show but i feel like everyone is has been i don't know like like un unusually hype about it because i don't know like or reaction about it because i think that 70s show i thought it was terrible i know it was a terrible show some people love it though it was i didn't like it it was so bad it was well it was just on tv for me i never sought it out it was just this is it was exactly right and if it was on i would just sometimes leave it on and occasionally i would turn around and think oh yeah but for the most part i ignored it default sitcom it was like they got an ai like all of these modern ais could write that fucking sitcom guaranteed the girls the girls in this show were like kind kind of hot at the time
Starting point is 00:54:17 though too though my latest was uh back in the day for sure oh my god she 87. She's not 87. I jest. Yeah, no, that is quite the jest. She's 39. Yeah, she's around, like, well. No, she's 39. I'm telling you she's 39. I'm just wondering. No, no, I know. I was going to say around our age, but then I realized you're a little bit older than me. Grew up in the 90s. Oh, I see. I'm just wondering if I'd like it, that's all, because I... No. Do you know what I mean? No. You don't like anything. You're too I'd like it. That's all. No. Do you know what I mean? No. I grew up in the 1990s. You're too old to like things. It's going to be one of those shows where you're going to watch and you'll be like,
Starting point is 00:54:50 that's not what the 90s was like at all because you lived through it. And I'm sure that people who grew up in the 70s watched that show and thought, this is a load of shit. This is not what it was like at all. It'll be things like, look how big the phones are. Fuck off. Yeah. Fuck off.
Starting point is 00:55:02 It'll be things like, look how big the phones are. Fuck off. Yeah, but it'll also take place in some middle of nowhere ass place like that 70s show did, right? Like, what was it? Like Wisconsin or something. So like, so. Shout out to anyone from Wisconsin. Not only is it the 1970s, but it takes place in Wisconsin,
Starting point is 00:55:20 which is probably still stuck in the 70s present day. It may as well not be considered the planet Earth, for God's sake. You may as well set it on the moon. Speaking as someone who lives on Jersey, which is stuck in the 90s. Jesus, you should throw stones if I'm saying this. I'm just saying. I'm just saying. I always feel like I've lost 10 years when I go visit you.
Starting point is 00:55:42 Things like... You're from Ottawa, right? I didn't know they still had a war. Ottawa's is kind of locked in the 70s don't do it you you came from a really boring ass places locked in the 70s oh my god you live in a place that's locked in the past and you're flaming wisconsin boring it's insane the cheese heads is that what they call them the cheese heads wisconsin yeah i think it's the land of cheese yeah they'll be coming at you with their cheese i think ottawa is still a little bit more exciting than all of Wisconsin, though, I would say. I don't know.
