Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi everyone. As we were planning out this episode, all three of us realized that it just didn't quite feel right at the current moment to have our usual fun back and forth about video games. There's too much going on in the wider world right now that deserves your and our attention. So we are not going to be running a normal episode today. If you were really hoping for a new triple click, we get it, we're sorry, and we will be back next week to talk about games with normal episodes. And also on Monday, if you haven't yet listened to the Final Fantasy 7 Beans cast, it will be live for everybody on this feed on Monday. The protests that have been happening for the last week following George Floyd's murder at the hands of police represent a crucial moment for this country. All three of us believe that Black Lives Matter and that we need our elected representatives to make meaningful, dramatic changes to how police are allowed to operate. We do want to talk about all of that stuff, even in the context of video games, but we also believe that right now, in this moment, there are other voices that are more worth hearing from. So in the show notes, you will find some links to resources for how you can best support protesters and help bring about meaningful change. For example, you can donate to bail funds.
Starting point is 00:01:08 You can call your local representatives, mayors and city council members. And to all of our white listeners, you can do some work to listen, educate yourself, and raise up black voices. I'd also like to really recommend the book, The New Jim Crow, which is about policing and the racist history of policing in our country. and how many decades that's been going on. It's worth a read, and it's also on audiobook. So that's by Michelle Alexander, and it's really good. I got a lot out of it when I read it. And if you're looking for a podcast to listen to right now,
Starting point is 00:01:42 we recommend our fellow maximum fun shows Minority Corner and Fantai, both of which are great shows that speak directly to the Black experience. So yeah, if you're out there protesting, stay safe. And if you aren't able to or don't want to protest for whatever reason, then please consider other things you can do to help. Thanks, and yeah, we will be back soon.
