Starting point is 00:00:04 In my crystal ball, I see Sammas Aaron, Gordon Freeman, Tara Branford. But why? Time will tell. Welcome to Triple Click, where we bring the games to you. This week, we look back on our video game predictions for 2020 and find out which of us was the most accurate. We also make predictions for 2021, because why not? I'm Maddie Myers. I'm Jason Shire. And I'm Kirk Hamilton.
Starting point is 00:00:33 Hey, we're back. Hey, and we're back. We are back for it. Our first episode of 2021. Very exciting. That's so exciting. And you know what else is exciting? What? We do monthly bonus episodes. And if people want, they can become a maximum fun org member and they can listen to those monthly bonus episodes. And what else is cool about the monthly bonus episodes? I don't know, Maddie. I feel like you're going to tell me. Usually we spoil a video game in them. But in 2021, we're going to expand the roster of what a bonus episode can be,
Starting point is 00:01:08 TBD. They might be something different. But no matter what, you will get a bonus hour of me and Jason and Kirk talking about a thing. If you are a maximum fun member. If you want to be. Yes. If you might not just be beanscast. It might be something else. Who knows? The future is now. and we are going to predict the future today on this episode. God, we are. Predictions. What are predictions anymore? I know.
Starting point is 00:01:35 What are we doing? Predictions are incredibly fun. They are and hilarious. So yeah, so, okay, so here's what we're going to do. Let's get started because we have a lot to get to today. We do. We're going to go through last year's predictions and we're going to make predictions for 2021.
Starting point is 00:01:51 So here's the deal. Every year we play a game, it started with just me and Kirk, and then, expanded as Maddie joined the show to include Maddie as well. Our game is each of us makes predictions every year, 10 predictions. Whoever gets the most right gets to pick a game that all three of us have to play that year or that the other two have to play that year. This year, I think what we're going to do, it could be one of three classic games. Mine was Final Fantasy 6.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Kirk's was Half-Life 2 and Maddie's was Metroid Prime. Whichever wins, what we're going to do is sort of like a game club-ish thing where we talk about it. We're going to do a triple play episode on it. We're going to do a beans cast on it down the road. So it'll be a lot of fun. We're going to be talking about these games throughout the year. Or at least one of them. Obviously, yes, one of these games.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Not all three. I do kind of want to play all three. I know, right? Whoever wins, we all win, really. Yep, yep. So just to reiterate, so the rules were, we gave this predictions last January, the rules were no inside info,
Starting point is 00:02:46 so we can't be based on any, like, sources, feeding us stuff. Nothing too obvious. And also no delays, which is a rule that we put in early in this game, because it's just too obvious. It's too easy. You can predict anything will be delayed and probably be right.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Like you guys, I think that God of War II, it's probably going to be delayed. That's my first prediction for 2021. Oh, man. It's just a bonus. That's just like a check-off right now. Like already, we can say Kirk gets a one out of one. So, yeah, let's get to it. Let's go through our 2020 predictions.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Maddie, you want to go first? Okay. So back in 2020, the first thing, I said would happen was that Nintendo Switch Online would start including some new and contemporary games, and I also said it would rival Xbox Game Pass. I feel like that second half is why I have lost this prediction, but I will say that we did get Mario Brothers 35, which is the Battle Royal Mario game. We did get some new games on Nintendo Online this year, which I didn't actually think would happen. Well, hold on, but that doesn't count because Tetris 99 was one of those, and that
Starting point is 00:03:54 came out last year, 2019. I'm saying I didn't win this, but I almost. It was not a terrible prediction is what you're saying. So credit where it's due. It was not as laughable a prediction as I thought it was at the time. But I'm not going to give myself a point for it, and I'm not even going to argue for it. So that's a zero. We will see Metroid Prime 4 gameplay this year.
Starting point is 00:04:17 I'm laughing because, of course, we did not see this. Metroid Prime 4 someday. Three. One day. We will learn that you play a Zelda in Breath of the Wild 2, even if only briefly. This is also a no. We still don't know the answer to this. No, though I did just read an article I believe on Polygon.com about how Zelda has short hair
Starting point is 00:04:37 and how that means that she might be playable because that's easier to animate. And I'm holding that close to my heart, but I do think that this is a no, unfortunately. We're still holding out hope. Number four, Ellie's girlfriend, the one in the E3 trailer, will die in the last of us part two. I lost this one. Yeah, kind of surprised. I read this one and I was like, oh, wow, hey, look at that. Oh, well.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Nope. Number five, Nintendo will announce a Princess Peach game. I also lost this one. Your predictions were good. Can I just interject here to say these are all like? They're definitely enjoyable. That one is nice. If we got a Princess Beach game, we're never going to get one.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Imagine this world where we saw Metroid Prime 4 gameplay and like Zelda's playable and you were predicting a very wonderful world. Some of them are good. The last of us Part 2 prediction is very sad. I was very cynical at the outset of 2020. I can't imagine why. I can't imagine why. Surely things didn't change throughout 2020.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Okay, so number six, here's where I feel like it gets interesting. A mobile game will come out that will be in serious contention for Goody lists, game of the year lists, due to its influence like Pokemon Go, but actually good. Here's my case, among us. Among us. Among us. But it didn't come out. Okay, you're right.
Starting point is 00:05:50 My other case, Genshin Impact. Also, an example of a game that is not solely a mobile game. It was on some game of the year list. This is why I wish I had written this out in a more specific way, because my comparison is Pokemon Go, which is solely a mobile game, and that I believe is the spirit of my prediction. However, Genschen Impact was a game that a lot of people played and care about and was in arguably a mobile game.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Had mobile game mechanics and works in the way that mobile games work. Here's my question, Maddie, which game of the year list was it on? Or like, what was it in contention for? Because I don't think it was nominated for the game awards. Right, exactly. I was imagining just your regular run-of-the-mill video game website lists. No, I know. I mean, are there any that actually included it?
Starting point is 00:06:38 That's what I'm asking. Sure, yeah. I mean, I can Google it. Was it on the Polygon 50 best games of the year that would see? I mean, I guess that's kind of not fair because you have input into that list. I do think, looking at this, I'm thinking about. I'm thinking about future predictions because I didn't actually make any of this, but it would be, I think if we're going to do Goody's style predictions, it would be good to tie them specifically to like the game awards, especially because none of us have any input into the game awards. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:04 It has to be a specific list, I think. That's the part that is a little ambiguous. For the record, it is on Polygon's list. I did not vote for it because I did not play it, and Polygon does its list by votes. Now everybody knows that information. It's number 21 on our 50 games. So 50 games is too many games to come out. It's on 21. It's 21st place. I think that based on what you're saying, the fact that you said like threes or Pokemon Go and like mobile game, like I think of Genshin Impact as, you know, it's also on consoles. It's like also that kind of a game. Maddie, I want to give you this, but I actually want to give you this for Among Us because Among Us, even though it didn't technically come out last year. It didn't come out this year. It basically did. And like it's so it was more influential than anything else. And it was a mobile, it's basically a mobile game or mostly a mobile game. I guess it's on Steam 2, but a lot, most people play it on mobile. Yeah, I agree with this, especially because of the line due to its influence, which was, like, specifically why among us was a goady contender. So, yeah, I like that. And I think, obviously, way more impactful than Genshin Impact, which was impactful among gamer circles, but, like, among us as... Despite being called Genshin Impact.
Starting point is 00:08:08 It's not impactful. But I would also say the fact that there were two mobile games that came out this year that were good and were talked about a lot means that I won this prediction. Yeah, I'm giving me the point. I agree. Kirk agrees. Cool, cool. Agreed. Number seven, Twitter will try to follow in Facebook's footsteps and make a push towards gaming, eG launching a streaming service or gaming VR studio. This did not happen. No.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Eight, we will see Stadia is actually good now, headlines in 2020. Also did not happen. Sorry to Google. Nine, Epic Store Rage will stop being a thing, concurrent with some changes on the part of the Epic Store, e.g., huge U.I. Makeover with Achievements, user reviews, wish, list, et cetera. I would say I won this. I don't think it's a thing anymore. I don't think there were huge changes. Right. That's my challenge. Yeah, is that it's, that didn't really happen. Like, it's not a thing because people just got bored. There are still, there's still like better UI though. And they include stuff like free games as part of being on the Epic Store, which that that started before 2020. No, so I think that, Maddie, I would say that
Starting point is 00:09:16 like Epic Store stopped being a thing, but just because people just got tired of talking about it. Like, I don't think there was anything that was like, oh, they got achievements now. And in fact, I still occasionally see people complaining about, like, how the Epic Store is all broken and buggy sometimes. Yeah. I chew on this because it's like you could have made the prediction just Epic Store Rage will stop being a thing and you would have gotten it because I think that it did kind of stop being a thing. But then again, maybe that would have been too. But I like over explained my own rule. Well, it might have been too easy.
Starting point is 00:09:44 We might have ruled against it anyways because it would have been kind of an easy one just because people get bored of things and most controversies don't last an entire year. I mean, the Epicster launched in December of 2018, so it was a huge thing in 2019. Of course, it was going to die down this year. In 2020. So I would say that the concurrent with some changes part is an essential part of the prediction. Okay. And you don't feel like it's made enough changes. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:07 I use it still and it feels pretty much the same. I know they've added some stuff, but they haven't had a UI, like they haven't added user reviews and wish lists and so. Or maybe they've added some of that. They've just talked about some of that stuff. Right. They've promised it. busy collecting those Fortnite dollars and suing Apple. So no time for this story.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Yeah, I'm going to thumbs down on this. Sorry, Maddie. Well, I am not going to win this year. Here's number 10. Either the PS5 or the Xbox Series X will make a disastrous fuck-up that will reignite the console wars by making it clear that one or the other console is superior in some way. This controversy will dominate headlines for weeks.
Starting point is 00:10:43 I would say I did not win this. It's funny because in the triple-click Discord, I have seen people try to claim. that I have won this and I just want to shout out people attempting to dig up controversies on my behalf. None of them have been even close to what I know I envisioned when I wrote this rule. Like I was envisioning something along the lines of like a discless console and like how controversial that was. But of course, that's not a controversy that either, either Maker got into this year. The Red Ring of Death, I think. Yeah, or something along those lines.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Like, yeah. I would have known it when I saw it and I definitely. didn't see it. So I got one point. One point. All right. A couple really close ones. A couple heartbreakers. Probably aren't going to play Metroid Prime. Oh, well. Which is really a real shame and I'm bummed with us. I was about to say the opposite because it's so hard to play on a modern, like now, and we should wait until it's eventually re-released for Switch. I mean, I have it on Wii U. I do. I do want that re-release. The Wii version is not too bad. The original original version is pretty rough. But. Yeah, it was literally just as we were recording this. It was on GDQ.
Starting point is 00:11:53 I had it on my screen and I was like, wow, Metro Prime. Really good game. Okay, cool. Let's keep it moving. Kirk, you want to go next? Sure. Okay, so here we go. My predictions.
Starting point is 00:12:04 My first prediction was that Bloodborn 2 would be announced for the PlayStation 5. You predict this every year. This isn't, I know. Well, not this year. But I produced it last year. My prediction was Blood Board 2 will be announced for PlayStation 5, which did not happen. No on the first one. Second prediction, video games will come up at some point during a presidential debate.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Did this happen? It did it, but I could maybe make an argument that during the first presidential debate, they could have and no one would have known because it was so loud and ridiculous. But maybe at one point Biden was like, Four Night Sox, Boo, Among Us, Game in the Year. We have no idea. That's a really good point. It was incorrect.
Starting point is 00:12:45 I'm not going to give you the point for that. Creative. Points for creativity. So I'm going to say no. That's a no on that one as well. Prediction number three, Nintendo will announce a new switch with Bluetooth 4K support
Starting point is 00:12:57 and the ability to maintain 30 frames per second in Korok Forest in Breath of the Wild. No, that didn't happen. No, it did not. As enjoyably specific is that prediction less. Nothing new one.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Number four, Microsoft will announce XCloud for Switch. Didn't happen. No. feels like it could happen, but it didn't happen this year. It still kind of feels like it could happen. All of these are things that feel as though they could have happened and could still happen. So that's a big no on my fourth one.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Number five, we will learn about a foreign influence campaign aimed at the 2020 U.S. election that will somehow involve video games on Twitch or YouTube. There may have been something at the margin on this, some weird Russian trollbot doing something on YouTube, but there was not something like I think I was envisioning here, which is like a significant thing involving those. So I'm going to say that this is a no as well. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:55 Number six, a U.S. game studio will vote to unionize. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this did not happen in 2020. Is that correct? Unless you consider Google a game studio? Yeah. That was 2021. Yeah, you're right. 2021.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Doesn't count. Okay. So no dice on that. Yeah, I was thinking about like, I was like, well, like people make games through Kickstarter. Right. There were a lot of almosts for this one, like the cards against humanity folks unionizing, but that's a tabletop. And you said video game studio. Yeah, that wouldn't, right.
Starting point is 00:14:25 That wouldn't quite count, despite you could make some weird argument about them. You could have, you could have tried. I felt like that would have been a good argument. Yeah, I mean, if you're not even fighting for it, then no debate needed. Right. I mean, if you, because you made the same prediction, Jason. If you fight for yours, then I will also get mine. This will not be a situation where one part of the election is invalid and the other part is valid.
Starting point is 00:14:46 We're not going to do that here. We were just talking about the presidency here. Right. Of course. If Jason somehow comes out swinging for that when we get to this list, it will retroactively give Kirk a point. Yes. Okay. Now we get into the good stuff, though. Next prediction.
Starting point is 00:15:00 What is this? My sixth prediction or something, I think? Seventh prediction. EA will announce a Mass Effect trilogy remaster. And on November 7th, Electronic Arts announced Mass Effect legendary edition. So I get this one. Yes, you do. First one that I get.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Indisputably. I want to go on. I just opened up G-chat for a second. January 9th, 2020, Jason Dreyer, oh, by the way, EA will announce the Massific trilogy remaster. That's going to be a win for you. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:15:26 I remember that you knew about this way in advance. I appreciate you biting your tongue when I made the prediction, and we'll reiterate that I had no idea, and we never make these predictions based on... No, it's fine. Yeah, it's fine if you guys make predictions, obviously that. Reiterating to listeners, though,
Starting point is 00:15:39 that Jason knows things that I don't know and doesn't tell me everything. Okay, number eight, Nintendo will announce launch a Game Boy Classic. This would have been cool. I think this was just definitely not going to happen in a COVID year. They did put out the little game and watch console as like a novelty item. Like that is the kind of weird shit that Nintendo does sometimes, but they didn't make it a little Game Boy. It could have happened. No, yeah, it could have happened. Could have happened. It would have
Starting point is 00:16:01 been cool. Didn't happen. Number nine, two of Facebook, Amazon or Netflix will announce a cloud gaming service to compete with Google Stadia X Cloud, etc. I got this one. I only got one. No, Facebook and Amazon did this. Yep. But, but Facebook's, but Facebook's is just like Facebook games. No, it's not. It's more than that. Yeah, but it's Facebook streaming games. It was announced on October 26th. It is a new initiative from Facebook. It's a streaming cloud game service. And it is different. They're being super tight-lipped about marketing it, but that is exactly what it is. And that's part of the strategy for it. I definitely think I got this one. It was a real announcement. I'm like looking at the blog post from Facebook.
Starting point is 00:16:38 There's a polygon.com story where I believe Charlie interviewed them about it. I edited it. It's surprising. I totally didn't think I would get this one, but I did. So that's two. And my 10th prediction is there will be a global pandemic that will change the course of human history. I can't believe I got this one. Just kidding. However, my 10th prediction was actually just kind of a specific and intensive one that I also got.
Starting point is 00:17:03 And that is that Half Life, Alex, will end with a teaser for Half Life 3, aka a continuation of the story post episode 2, Clifhanger. And it absolutely does to the point where not only is the ending. I can't believe we let you do this. Like, of course it was going to do that. I don't think that was a given. Like, I really don't. It's fine. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:17:22 You two haven't seen the ending, and I won't spoil it for people who haven't seen it. But, like, the extent to which it specifically conforms to this prediction is incredible. And, like, I was, it's an amazing ending. Like, the final act of that game is just a total ass kicker. It's so freaking cool. And then, not only is it cool, like, in the world of Half Life Alex, it ends in this, with this thing where you're like, no. And it's a thing that, like, no. And it's a thing that, like, like, it's a thing that, like,
Starting point is 00:17:45 Half-Life fans have been waiting for for what feels like 50 years. And it was, it's so cool. And I was just laughing both because it was awesome and because I was like, I got my prediction. Yes. So I was happy about that. What a feeling. What a feeling. It was really great. Yeah. It was just like. This is the only thing that really matters is winning the predictions. It's true. It's true. I feel like making a prediction something cool that will also happen in a game is a great approach because it gives you multiple things to be happy about at once, which is a nice way to go. So that was my 10th one and I got it. So that's three for me. Cool. This is probably going to be close. I have no idea who's going to win coming into my convictions. It's going to be tight. Number one for me, Nintendo will release a Switch Pro along with third-party ports, blah, blah, blah, obviously did not happen. Nope.
Starting point is 00:18:30 So that's up. Number two, Rockstar will announce GTA6. So 0 for 2. Number three, this is interesting. Google will drastically overhaul Stadia's model slash pricing. So Stadia did go free. When it launched, you had to buy a Founder's edition. But I believe they had announced that that was going to be the plan.
Starting point is 00:18:51 So I'm not sure if I can give myself a win for that. So I feel like I can't give myself a win for that. They actually do give you the games now, but you have to pay to be a member. It's very weird. But that was always the case also. Like you always got free games. It was like a PlayStation Plus 3. It's amazing that I don't even know that because of how confusingly Stadia has been marketed.
Starting point is 00:19:12 Like, is that even different? Who can say? I guess they didn't drastically over. haul it because we don't even know. Yeah. I'm not going to argue in like for this one. I'll just give it a loss. But I will argue for this next one.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Number four, PlayStation 5 will massively outsell Xbox Series X in its first month. So hear me out. On one hand, we don't have numbers. So there's no like real concrete answer here. But I have the receipts here. So. Literal receipts. Gamesindustry.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Dot biz article November 25th. PS5 is biggest console launch in history. PS5 was the biggest ever. So the PS4 had sold 2.1 million units in just over two weeks. So the PS5 is sold more than that. The Xbox Series X presumably has not sold close to that amount. We don't know for sure, but we know the PS5 is the biggest, like, ever launch in history.
Starting point is 00:20:05 So I think even though we don't know the exact numbers, I feel like that makes a pretty strong case for this being true. I think you're probably right, because I feel like Microsoft would have come out and said actually no. Right. If they felt that they were the biggest launch in history. Exactly. And that did not happen.
Starting point is 00:20:22 And I also feel like anecdotally, I mean, you don't see nearly as many people talking about how they're lining up to get an Xbox series X as the PS5. Or that it's very difficult. What do you think, Kirk? I think that's fair to say massively outsold. It's a little bit subjective, but yeah, you got it. Yep. Cool. One.
Starting point is 00:20:36 Okay, number five, a presidential candidate will participate in some sort of Fortnite event. Joe Biden built back better with Biden Fortnite map. That did happen. Now, however, your wording, though, is that a presidential candidate will participate in some sort of Fortnite event. The Biden campaign released a Fortnite map, but I don't know if that's what you predicted. Come on. If Biden released a Fortnite map, I don't get credit. Biden didn't, though.
Starting point is 00:21:04 But I feel like this prediction to me, I thought it was like Biden would give a campaign event in Fortnite. The way that, you know, like, there's like concerts in Fortnite. like Biden himself would be talking that on stage or they would like show a Biden rally and it would be simulcast in Fortnite. That would have been a lot to ask. I think, I feel like it's such a stretch that Biden would have done a Fortnite map in the first place that like, I don't know. It feels like it should be a win. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:29 I don't know. I'm sort of relying on you for the spirit of the prediction, Jason. Like, do you feel like participate to you meant that just advertising in the game, for example, counts as participation? to me it would have. I don't think that's necessarily what I thought of, but I didn't, when I was, when I said the prediction, I certainly didn't want to like box it into a presidential candidate will stand up and do a live speech in Fortnite. Like I, I wanted it to be more just like that, that the spirit of it was saying that the presidential campaign, one presidential campaign will recognize the impact of Fortnite and use that as an opportunity to reach viewers.
Starting point is 00:22:06 That is how I read this and that's why I'm going to give it to you. Cool. You get it. Okay, cool. So that is two. Oh, man, this is going to be really close. Okay, six. Apple will put out a game on PC or consoles.
Starting point is 00:22:20 No, that is, did not happen. Maybe it'll be a prediction for next year. I don't know. Number seven, Amazon will launch some sort of streaming service and store with built-in Twitch features and interactivity. This happened, Amazon Luna. So that's three. So really, if I get one more, then I beat Kirk. What if there's a tie?
Starting point is 00:22:38 What happens then? I don't know. We play both games. I think we play both games. We play both games. Okay. Okay. Number eight, a US-based game development studio will unionize. That is another fail. Number nine, Sony will skip E3 once again. But I actually revised this prediction, as you guys remember, in May, because E3 didn't happen. But it was Sony will skip E3 once again, as well at least one major publisher that attended E3 the last year. Instead, I replaced it with Final Fantasy 7 remake part two will be announced for 2021. That did not happen. And number 10, I think we all see where this is going.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Disney will buy or invest big in a video game company that did not happen. It is a tie between me and Kirk. We've got a tie. For the fourth time. We have tied so many times. This is number four. So what have you done in the past when you get a tie? You just both play.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Well, it was a steak dinner for the first few years. It was a steak dinner story. Right. It wasn't playing. We only did playing a game. We started that just like a couple of years ago. I think we started that. So here's what happened.
Starting point is 00:23:35 We went multiple years tying and then tying again. And then I think we tied. And it was like steak dinner. dinner was the first. I had to buy Jason a stake dinner or vice versa. Then we like up the stakes. So the second time, so to speak, the second time it was, I have to take you and Amanda out to a steak dinner. Right, right. And then the third, Kirk was like, this is getting too expensive. Yeah, I was like, this is getting a little stressful because soon it's going to be like a $500 thing that we have to like do. And so that was when we change it to games. And then the first year that it was games competing, I believe that was the year that I
Starting point is 00:24:05 won and you had to play Bloodborn. Is that? Yes. That sounds right. And that was the year that I joined, but I had not participated in the bet, but I wrote predictions for the first time that year. And you played Bloodborn like a champ. I did play Bloodborn. I did not beat it, but I did play it. So, yeah, so we played Blood Born in 2019, and then we played Kirby Planet Robobot last year.
Starting point is 00:24:23 And then... Because I won last year, and so that's why I'm not a sore loser about losing so badly this year. And now Kirk and I have both ones. So I think we just, we play them both. We play Final Fantasy 6 and Half Life 2 in 2021. So we'll have to figure out an order to play them in maybe so that we do the like triple plays and the beans casts you know all right awesome so why don't we go through
Starting point is 00:24:45 our 2021 predictions boy okay we have a lot of them um so what was the order let's go in reverse order let's go in reverse order so i'll go first yeah sure i'll go first shaking out i'm gonna rail these off you guys ready go for it yeah so stop me so a couple of these might be too easy so just stop me if you think one is too easy oh we will okay number one Sony will buy blue point BluePoint is the studio that remakes games, including the Demon Soul remake that they just did in the last fall. Sony will buy BluePoint. Number two, Hogwarts Legacy, the Harry Potter game, will feature some sort of pro-trans message
Starting point is 00:25:23 from the developers. We wrote the same prediction, Jason. Oh, that's awesome. That's so funny. Oh, my God. Okay. Keep going. Keep going.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Number three. Number three, the PlayStation 5 will not be available to just buy, like, go into a store and buy it or like just order it online, until no. November at the earliest. Okay, this one's tough. I was thinking of, I didn't wind up making a prediction along these lines. I did, so I'm curious of your ruling. Well, so I'm trying to buy a PlayStation 5, and I was like, so I thought maybe I would tie
Starting point is 00:25:52 it to myself, like, I will not be able to get a PlayStation 5, but then I was like, I can't do that because then I'm, like, tainting the results. Yeah, yeah. So that wouldn't work. And then I was like, hypothetically, only one of us could make a prediction like that, hypothetically. Right, and exactly. And then, right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:08 I see where you're going with this, Maddie. So then another question is, how do we make it a little bit more objective? Is it like... So I think on a date, if any date before November, you can just like go on Amazon and buy a PlayStation 5. Then it's a loss. Or Best Buy or anywhere like that. Yeah, so we'll keep an eye out. We'll keep an eye out.
Starting point is 00:26:28 I mean, I'm sure it'll be obvious. Like when they're like back and stuck to the point where anyone can just get on. I think it'll be obvious. So, yeah. And I don't think, I think this is actually a pretty tough one because November, that's a long... That's very far away. Yeah, I'd kind of be surprised. So that's a good.
Starting point is 00:26:39 And so, Maddie, if you have a similar one, we should try to make them on par. It's not similar. I'm going early. Okay. Oh, okay, good. Cool. Okay, good, good. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:46 So number four, Metal Gear Solid will come back in some form. Any form. Okay. It could be a remake. It could be a mobile game from Konami. Does it have to be a game? Can we at least narrow it down that way? No, it can be a movie.
Starting point is 00:27:01 It could be a Netflix show. I'm just saying it comes back in some form, yeah. But it has to be something new. Okay. So like a brand new. new remaster on the switch or something like that. Like that counts, but like, um, but it has to be like a real remaster.
Starting point is 00:27:15 It can't just be like a re-release. Well, no, it can be, if it's ported to the switch, that's, or whatever, like, anything that involves it coming back in some form. Uh, okay, yeah, sure. We'll know it. We'll, we'll just, if we need to dispute it next year. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think it's one that we could debate if it winds up being borderline, but that's,
Starting point is 00:27:30 that's fine as a producer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, number five, persona six will be announced. Okay, man, from your, uh, uh, lips to God's ear. Just throwing it out there. Some of these, I mean, you've got to have some outlandish ones, right? Number six, bungee, makers of destiny will sell itself. Okay.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Okay. Number seven, at least one Xenamax game will be announced not for PlayStation. I mean, the reason I think this is out there is because I think it would piss a lot of people off and like Microsoft would be cognizant of that. And I also think for that to happen so soon would be interesting. And yeah, I don't know. I think it would be just an interesting event. Like it'll be like a straight up PlayStation or Xbox PC exclusive not coming to PlayStation.
Starting point is 00:28:18 Potentially Switch. I'm not ruling out Switch. But I'm saying yes. It will be announced and it'll be like, it'll be like, okay, we're announcing Starfield or whatever. Any Zimex game. I feel like I don't know enough about this. This feels like a Jason getting one in because he knows about these types of things. I swear I do not have any of scientific.
Starting point is 00:28:34 I would not make this prediction if I had inside a lot. And if this happens and they're like, it may come to PlayStation down the road, then what? We will fight you. Yeah, because I just, I could see them like announcing a game and saying Xbox. If it's a timed exclusive, if it's. If it's a timed exclusive and they're specific about that, then that does not count. Then that's a loss for me.
Starting point is 00:28:56 But if they say, who knows if Phil Spencer does one of those interviews where he's like, anything can happen down the road, then that counts for me. That seems fair. All right. right. Just because like there's no way, like Phil Spencer is going to be saying that about everything. Yeah. So if Phil Spencer is vague in an interview, Jason gets his prediction. Yep. Okay. Number eight for me, at least two of these, this falls, um, triple A games will be next gen only. So they cannot be cross platform at all. And the reason that I think this is a tough one and not super easy is because every single game that's been announced for this year so far is cross gen.
Starting point is 00:29:31 even like Horizon 2 and like other exclusives. And I think we haven't seen the only, literally the only next gen only game we've seen so far is Demon Souls. There's been nothing else announced. There have been a couple little Xbox games, scorn, the medium, those are next genitals. I'm talking about big, big AAA games.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Actually, let me specify this. AAA third party games. Okay. So like it could be anything from Call of Duty to Borderlands 4 to Skyrim to, whatever. I feel like we have enough room to dispute that. the time comes, so it seems fair to me. Well, it has to be next gen only.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Right, exactly. There wouldn't be a lot to dispute. Like, if it comes to PS4 this fall. Yeah, but as to whether we truly considered a AAA game, for example, or. Oh, yeah. Well, that's, yeah, that's obvious. Yeah, yeah. I like it too because it kind of ties in with the broader idea that maybe the transition
Starting point is 00:30:19 into this next generation will happen faster than the last one. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And it also, it kind of contradicts with my prediction of the PS5 will not be available to buy for people. It does, yeah. We'll see. Okay, number nine, Maddie, I'm aping this one from you a little bit, but this is a two-part prediction.
Starting point is 00:30:36 One, Breath of the Wild, two will come out this year and it will allow you to play Zelda for at least part of the game. The tricky part of this, I think, well, I think both parts of this are hard, but especially come out this year, since right now there isn't even a release year for it. I know. I'm going to allow that because I don't think you're going to be right. Yeah, I think it's not going to come out this year. So that makes it feel like a bold prediction. So it's fine. Makes it fair.
Starting point is 00:30:58 Great. Okay. Number 10. E3 2021 will be entirely online and at least three big publishers will not participate. At least three big publishers will not participate. Yeah, I mean, sure. Sure. It has to be entirely online and has to have three.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, at least three. Yeah, it's a two-parter because like entirely online would be too obvious. But like I think that it's going to be this thing where it's like a half-assed event and like a bunch of publishers just pull out and it'll just be a mess. Okay. That's my prediction. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:28 Cool. Works for me. All right. So, Kirk, you're next. Yeah, I'm up. All right, here we go. First one is one that I'm carrying over from last year. Microsoft X-Cloud will be announced for the Switch. I still want this to happen because it'll be a shocker.
Starting point is 00:31:40 So I'm leaving it in there. I didn't give myself bloodbored. Some that I've carried over before unionizing. I let those be, which means they will now happen, which is fine. That means that now we'll get Bloodborn 2 and a game studio will unionize. And I just won't get points for it. So, okay, that's the first one. Second one, Netflix will announce.
Starting point is 00:31:59 that they're adding game streaming to their service more than just their current choose your own adventure movies. So they're going to add a specific like Netflix game initiative to Netflix. That's like games in Netflix that you play through Netflix. I do not think that's going to happen. That would be wild. I know fine with you predicting this. It's wild prediction. Okay, number three.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Okay, this will be a blast for the past for the two of you, I think from two years ago. The new switch will be called the switch two. Okay. Okay. Okay. That's number three. Number four, a video game playing animal will become a streaming sensation. Seems unfair because V-tubers are like already a thing. So. Okay, but V-tubers don't count. And I mean, humans, I know are animals, but that humans don't count.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Okay. Oh, it has to be like a real animal. It can't be like an animated animal. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no. Right. Not an anime robot. Okay, okay. I was interpreting this. So you're saying it's like a dog who pretends to play like Bloodbore. Or actually does play. Like a duck, a duck that plays Dance Dance Revolution. And it will become like a streaming sensation. Amazing. Okay, sure.
Starting point is 00:33:11 I hope so. Number five, video games will play a role in at least one major political scandal or controversy. You love these. I do. I do. Because then when those happen, it's always an exciting moment. This one is a very vaguely worded one, though. Yeah, I played with it.
Starting point is 00:33:26 I could make it more specific. I feel like that's pretty. Like it'll be, we'll know what it is. Okay. How about we bump it up to scandal? Like controversy is a pretty weak word. Like it needs to be a real one. It can't just be like AOC playing among us and like it gets kind of weird.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Like it needs to be like a real problem. Scandal. Yeah. Like the guy who embezzled money from his campaign to buy Steam games. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Number six, Valve will announce another new Half-Life game.
Starting point is 00:33:54 No, no, no, no. I'm vetoing this. Really? Why? You can't carry on your correct prediction from last year about them teasing a Half-Life game by saying, oh, yeah, they're going to announce the game they tease. The only thing, the way you can make that tougher is if you give a year to it. Like it comes and it's coming out next year or something.
Starting point is 00:34:13 Or it's announced to come out in 2022 or something. Right. Well, okay, I could do that. Like Valve will announce a new Half-Life game for 2022. But that's like knowing Valve, do you really want to make that your prediction? You can think over a new one. Yeah, because, no, I think that they would. They announced Half-Life Alex.
Starting point is 00:34:28 like six months before it came out. No, but knowing Valve, would they really come out with a new Half-Life game two years after Half-Life Hall? I kind of think so, yeah, actually. I think that they may be... Okay, then, yeah, that's a, that's a riskier prediction. Okay, okay. So is it that Valve will announce a new Half-Life game, non-VR Half-Life game for 2022?
Starting point is 00:34:45 Okay. Okay. I think you're going to win it, but it's okay. But if they announce it and there's no release year, then you lose. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It has to be that it's coming in 2022. Yeah, I'll take that. Okay, cool. Sure.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Next. This is seven. Yeah. Prediction 7. Bing. Kirk here from the future. My next prediction was related to Nintendo and Nintendo peripherals and Jason shot it down. I guess both Jason and Maddie shot it down.
Starting point is 00:35:10 So we spent a while kind of debating it and I just edited that out. And we're just going to get right on to my substitution prediction. Bing. Okay. My substitution is at least two major announced games will be completely canceled. Ooh, that's a good one. I like that. Because that rarely happened.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Yeah. Okay. Number eight. Major, what do you mean by major, by the way? Does that mean big? Triple-I? Yeah, like it won't just be like some indie studio that announced the game cancels it. It'll be like something that was like announced and known will be canceled.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Okay. We can debate major when the time comes. But I think we'll know what it is. Like a big known game. Number eight, Epic will lose its lawsuit against Apple. God. That was going to be one of my predictions. Yeah, I almost put that in.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Too obvious. Do you think it's obvious? Bing. Kirk here from the future again as I edit the show. And yet again, we had a pretty lengthy back and forth about this prediction. And then Jason proposed a more difficult version of this. And I edited it out all that back and forth because it was kind of boring and just went on forever. So here is Jason's suggestion. Bing. What if you say, okay, I'll give you, what if you say Epic will lose its lawsuits against Apple and Google and you have to, it just has to be both of them dismissed this year. Okay. That works. It's kind of, it's been like a dual pronged. That's true. Yeah. Impressed. There are the two cases. Sure. Both of its lawsuits against Apple and Google. Okay, cool. I'm going to keep going. The next one is a noteworthy Republican will start streaming video games to compete with the squad. I like that. Oh, man. To try to be cool to. Great. Josh Holly is going to come out. Can't wait to see Josh Holly get out there. I was going to predict Holly specifically, but I just was like, I think. It's unspoken. Do you guys remember when I interviewed Holly? Yes, I do. At Katakas. God, I keep thinking about that.
Starting point is 00:36:56 Fucking guy. Okay, and the last one, a V-tuber will go rogue against the company that made them. I hope so. I hope so. That would be very exciting. Oh, my God. That's my time's predictions. The predictions have cracked me up.
Starting point is 00:37:12 Okay, cool. So that's it for me. We got him down. Mattie, you're up. Awesome. Okay. Number one. There are two versions of this prediction.
Starting point is 00:37:21 The first one is sort of a joke, and it is Kirk will get a. a PS5 before any of the three of us manages to get a COVID vaccine. And my most specific version of it is that I think by April people will be able to get a PS5 if they want one, which I would say is pretty early. Wait, so is this, is this both, both are your prediction, both of these things? I mean, I really want it to be the Kirk will get a PS5 before each of us get a vaccine. I feel like that's the true prediction in my heart. But I think it's, it's maybe too easy.
Starting point is 00:37:50 And I'm willing to recognize that it's too easy. Well, but then Kirk could purposely not get a PS5. Well, so no, no, I think it would rely on me just trying my hardest to get a PS5. Which you are. Like, I'm not doing the crazy thing, but I'm trying reasonably hard. You're trying reasonably hard. And we would all be trying reasonably hard to get a COVID vaccine. But the vaccines are such a debacle that like we probably won't get ours until like fall.
Starting point is 00:38:11 Well, that's kind of my point is like the vaccine rollout is so much worse than the PS5 rollout already. That it's like kind of like two snails racing each other at this point as to like which will improve itself before. hand. So that was why I wrote a more real version of the prediction. Wasn't it your joke that people will have to like watch Wario 64 on Twitter to get their vaccines? Yeah, for vaccines. I know, right? But I, but I feel like by April I probably won't have a vaccine, but I think that people will be able to get a PS5. So that's my, we can just say that that's the real version of the prediction. Wait, Maddie, what if you make yours, what if you make it a little broader and you say people will be able to get PS5s before any of the three of us?
Starting point is 00:38:51 like you'll be able to just go online and buy a PS5. Yeah. Before the three of us or PS5s will be regularly available. Sort of like mine, except years will be before any of us get a vaccine. Before vaccines are regularly available. I like that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:05 Or available to people like the three of us where we're not, we have no special considerations, etc, etc. Okay. So that's my first prediction, which is already very complex. Number two. I am predicting that E3 will not happen in 2021, one, not even online. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:22 Interesting. Okay. And then my third prediction, and this is a separate one, is that E3 will end for good and it will never happen again. Okay. Interesting. Okay. Wow.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Balsy. Why not? No, I love it. Number four. So this is a reversal of a very popular prediction around here. We will learn that Zelda is not playable in Breath of the Wild too. Interesting. Picking the dark timeline prediction.
Starting point is 00:39:48 2020 has made me jaded. It has made me jaded. me, it has made me sad. I no longer have hope. I do not believe Zelda will be playable. I am predicting she will not be playable. I hope I'm wrong about this. Maddie, so far, there are three predictions that we both are directly opposites. I love it. I love it. This is what's fun about. It's going to be a blowout one way or the other. Great. Five, we will go another full year without an Eldon Ring trailer. Oh God. Oh my God. I hope not. Maddie is making a bummer predictions. You're like, it was the uplifting, exciting predictions last year. So now you're, you're, you're
Starting point is 00:40:20 canceling that out? I know. That would be nuts if that actually. I think it will happen. George R. Martin, you never know, man. You never know. And wins of winter, we will go another year without seeing wins of winter. Six. All of my predictions are negative. I'm realizing this now. Nintendo will not announce a Switch Pro in 2021.
Starting point is 00:40:40 I'm just saying they won't. Another ballsy prediction. I just don't think they will. Okay. Number seven, GameStop will declare bankruptcy. see. I actually don't think this will happen. I feel like this is also a balzy prediction for the record. I read a bunch of financial filings today about this prediction. And I was like, I actually think it's more likely that GameStop will get acquired by like an Amazon or something and like pivot into some other weird shit. I feel like that's what would really happen. So why don't you make that your prediction? That's also a ballsy prediction. Because I don't know how to spell that out. Like GameStop will get acquired by someone and pivot to being a different kind of business. Like is that specific enough for you guys? Sure. That would work. Yes, definitely.
Starting point is 00:41:19 I think that's more likely than them going bankrupt. I'll write it out later. Number eight, this is the same as your prediction, Jason. Hogwarts Legacy will include a gesture against J.K. Rawlings' bigotry, something about trans rights, basically, in the game. Cool. Number nine, the game awards goady winner will be a game that at least one of the three of us actually wanted to win.
Starting point is 00:41:42 This is a hopeful prediction. And it's also pretty unlikely at the rate that the game is. game awards have gone from the past few years. It's a little tricky, but it'll actually be kind of fun to debate, so I'm going to say that's, that's, like if we need to debate it, that'll be kind of fun. One of us actually wanted to win. Okay, so I think for the purposes of this prediction,
Starting point is 00:42:01 we should all pick a game before the game awards. I could also make it harder by saying all three of us want it to win. But then you guys could really fight me out of year. No, we might disagree. Right, right. No, I think, I think it's fair. I think Maddie, you just have to put a note to yourself, but your Google calendar in December that we should all pick.
Starting point is 00:42:18 a game before the game of wars. Yeah. Yeah. And that'll count for your prediction. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's good. That seems fair. And then my 10th prediction, this is a very Kirk prediction. We will learn that Bloodbourne is coming to PC. I'm willing to make this Bloodbourne remastered if we want to make it harder. Because I think it's fairly likely.
Starting point is 00:42:35 Well, any PC version would have to be remastered to the point where it runs at 60 frames. As opposed to just a port. There will be a PC version of Bloodbourne. There will be a PC version. I like that prediction. You guys don't feel like that's too easy? No, no, no. I like it.
Starting point is 00:42:48 Okay. I will say that because no inside info is allowed, I haven't done any PS PlayStation to PC predictions. Yeah. Yeah. All right. So I won't comment on this one is what I'm saying. Got it. Okay. Cool. Cool. Those are my predictions. Now do we have to say our games? Yeah. Now we all have to say our games. And yeah, man, these are, uh, some spicy predictions. Who wants to go first? I will go. I will go. So if I win the bet, we are going to play analog a hate story, which is a Christine love visual novel that Jason has never played and that I think he would really like. And it's also a really, really cool video game that I think we would have fun talking about on the show. Yeah, I remember I wanted to play it before we interviewed her at GDC, but I just did not have any time.
Starting point is 00:43:30 Yeah, and you just didn't have time. Yeah, I think you'd dig it. I think it would be really fun to talk about. Cool. That's a good choice. Kirk, what's yours? My pick is Resident Evil 2 remake, which I know that neither of you have played. I know that Maddie is a Resident Evil expert and has a...
Starting point is 00:43:45 played it and Jason does not love horror games. I love this game so much when I played it. I played it a whole ton. And this would be like we'd play through both storylines. So it's like you kind of play it twice. It's totally cool. It'd be super fun to talk about on the show. And so that's my pick. Great. All right. You guys ready for my pick? Yes. Probably not, but yes. Sweet go out and two. I'm bringing it back. I'm bringing it back. You always just have to pick a billion hour long JRP. No, seek out of two is actually relatively short. Yeah, it's only like 60 hours long. Yeah, it's just a sweet chipper 60 hours. You actually get, you get, like, one of the quests asks you to finish the game in under 20 hours. Yeah, you can pick it. I'm just giving it. It's fine. The reason I'm picking this is because I knew that the one year that I actually won and you would have to play my game, it would not be sweet-coated into it, which is the reason that I did not pick it last year. And I was like, you know what, I'm probably going to win this year.
Starting point is 00:44:37 So now I know I'm going to go back to losing this year now that I picked it. I see guaranteeing yourself. We'll see how it goes. I have no idea who's going to win. Really? I really don't either. It's a good, good year of predictions. We never know.
Starting point is 00:44:48 That's why it's such a fun game. No, this is a good, good predictions. And if 2020 showed us anything, it's that we probably won't predict anything about what will happen in 2021. Oh my gosh. We'll stick all the predictions somewhere, TBD, where maybe Discord or something like that. Yeah, we have the old ones in the Discord. Because we no longer have Katako to put it on. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:45:10 But yeah, cool. Well, so yeah, that was fun. Why don't we take a break? and then we'll do some one more things. Hey, I'm Dan McCoy. I'm Stuart Wellington. And I'm Elliot Kalen. Together we're The Flop House.
Starting point is 00:45:28 A podcast where we watch a bad movie and then talk about it. Movies like Space Hobos, into the outer reaches of the unknown and the things that we don't know the movie. And also, who's that grandma? Zazzle Zippers. Breakdown 2 and Backhanded Compliment. Elvis is a policeman. Baby Crocodone.
Starting point is 00:45:49 and the happy twins. Leftover potatoes? Station wagon three. Herbie goes to hell. New episodes available every other Saturday. The listeners of Minority Corner will enjoy some necessary LOLs, but mainly a look at what's happening in our world through a colorful lens. People will get the perspective of marginalized communities. I feel heard. I feel seen.

Join us every Friday on Max Fun or wherever you get your podcast. Minority Corner, because together we're the majority. And we are back, Kirk, Maddie. Let's talk about some one more things. I'll go first really quickly. I am reading a great book that I wanted to recommend to the two of you
Starting point is 00:47:08 and to everybody else out there. It is called Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss, and it is co-written with Tall Raz. Chris Voss is a former FBI international hostage negotiator. and he has written this great book that I got a recommendation for on Twitter about negotiating and like taking negotiation lessons and using them in life. I've never read any books about like negotiation or anything like that, but I found this one super fascinating,
Starting point is 00:47:35 like full of all these really interesting like psychological tricks that almost feel, that feel like borderline manipulative, definitely manipulative in some ways. But like in a way that I don't, that I think can, is like healthy manipulative because it's all about like having empathy for people and using that as a way to like get them to give you what what you want. It's very much like negotiation shouldn't be like a compromise back and forth where you both sides leave feeling like shit. Instead, you should be empathizing with the person you're talking to and use that as a way. And like it's all about how that can be applied in real life. And the book is full of his stories of negotiation. And during his time in the FBI, it is fascinating. I've been reading it
Starting point is 00:48:18 every morning. Sounds really cool. Can I ask you a question really quickly, Jason, is when do you do most of your reading? I do reading at night most of the time, like right before bed, but I've recently, I'm starting to get into the habit of reading in the morning for a few minutes, although it's harder because I also have to watch my daughter at that time. But like just having, with my coffee before I get on the computer, just reading for a few of this. Yeah, I could see that being a good way to do it.
Starting point is 00:48:44 Nice. Yeah. But usually I just read at night. And then if I'm captivated by a book and I have the time and my daughter is doing something else, I will just sit there and just read like during the day, like during a weekend day, just like for hours on a weekend or something like that. But that's harder when you have a toddler right now. I can imagine.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Anyway, yeah, so highly recommend that. Never split the difference. Go check it out. Maddie, what's your one more thing? Mine is also a book. So as promised, I read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley at Kirk's recommendation. I really enjoyed this book. And it was super fun to read it right after reading Carrie because they're both books that allow you to sympathize with this monstrous character, supposedly monstrous character.
Starting point is 00:49:25 And they're both epistolary books means they're told from multiple perspectives. There's letters in Frankenstein from multiple characters. And Frankenstein is just delightfully spooky in a way that I didn't expect at all. I was like, how scary can a book really be from hundreds of years ago? but I was listening to it on an audiobook. A lot of times I get my book reading done when I can't sleep. I'll plug in my headphones or whatever if Dina's there or I'll, you know, listen alone in my house. If Dina's not there and just listen to the book because I can't sleep.
Starting point is 00:49:58 And that is a really freaking spooky way to listen to Frankenstein and I highly recommend that. Yeah, I'll bet who reads the audio book. Oh, it's three different readers because there's three different characters. Oh, of course. Oh, that's so cool. They do the different. Yeah. I will include it in the show notes for everyone, but I don't know off the top of my head, but the guy who they got to play the monster has such a beautiful resonant voice. I was so impressed by him. And it was also just cool because I had always heard that the monster gets very intelligent, but I'd never actually read the book. And so I was
Starting point is 00:50:30 like, I can't even picture that. I have no idea what his arc could be. But it was really cool to finally read the book and find that out. And then enjoy reading Mary Shelley's life history. And that shit is crazy too. So I recommend all of it. So I have one of her, I think it's the definitive biographies on Tap to Read because I think she's super, super interesting. Yeah, I want to do that next. Yeah. And that book, it's just, yeah, man, I'm really glad you read it anyways. I'm glad you liked it. I loved it. It's wild. It's wild that a teenage girl wrote this book and it's so good. I'm only reading books by teenage girls now. That's all. Nice. That seems a good rule to go by. I guess that leaves me. So Kirk, you want to go?
Starting point is 00:51:09 Yeah, sure. So my one more thing is, Wonderwe. Woman 1984, which we watched, we tried to watch it on Christmas when it came out. And this was, you know, of course, released on HBO Max. And also HBO Max had just been released for Roku, which we have a Roku TV.
Starting point is 00:51:27 And we were trying to watch it, and it was totally busted. Like, it wouldn't play right, that the frame rate was skipping all over the place, and it was just screwed up. Then I was looking around online, and apparently, like, this was a problem on, I think, Roku devices, and maybe other places. So, which did not put a lot of faith in the sort of this
Starting point is 00:51:43 grand Warner Media future of streaming all of their movies if they can't release them and have them work right uh it was it that would be too bad but we worked we found a work around with like airplay or whatever and finally watched it uh and it's not a very good movie i'm sorry to say i was like yeah so i liked the first one um this is uh Warner brother that's directed by Patty Jenkins starring gal gadotte and uh godote gal gaddot i know you say the tea that is that is the most like Indiana way of pronouncing an Israeli name. Yeah, I'm sure that I'm mangling it. I'm pronouncing Gal Gadot.
Starting point is 00:52:19 Okay, Gadot. Who is really incredible screen presence. Not a great actor. And she was like a great actor in the first one, but she's like a movie star. She's such an undeniable, just like Wonder Woman. The minute she appeared in that first movie, she was great. I really loved the first movie.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Kind of reminds me of Keanu Reeves, by the way. Very much a movie star, but acting leaves much of me. Yeah, I guess they're a little similar. she does have a really great face kind of like his. I would say that Keanu is actually a pretty good actor, or he really learned how to use his instrument in a way that hopefully... Yeah, he's had more time to do it than she has. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:52:52 In a way that I could see her doing as well, like kind of growing into a slightly more versatile actor. But this movie is just kind of a mess. Like it didn't have... It like weirdly rehashes the love story from the first movie. It brings Chris Pine back and they have great chemistry, but it's like, why is he back? He died in the first movie.
Starting point is 00:53:09 And they don't go anywhere new with it. It just feels weirdly... second time. Obviously, it's set in 1984, but it's just very strange. Pedro Pascal is in it, the Mandalorian himself, and he's great. He's such a great presence on screen, but his character is weird and confusing. Kristen Wieg is in it, and she's also really cool, and she's playing a character who I gather people really love, Cheetah from the DC comics, but like, it's all just jammed together. It has that feeling of the other DC movies. Like, it really has that, like, it's not Batman v. Superman or anything.
Starting point is 00:53:41 Did you watch Birds of Prey, by the way? Because I feel like it'd be a real pallet cleanser for you. I really want to. It's the only good one, really. And it's on HBO right now, and I've got it. It's like on my very short list to watch. You got to wash it down with some Birds of Prey. I rewatched it recently because that was what Deena and I did for Halloween.
Starting point is 00:53:57 And it's amazing. I'm sorry about Wonder Woman, though. It's cool. So we watched it over the holidays, and we also rewatched The Old Guard, which is another great female directed superhero movie. You could say are a comic book movie. so much better in every single way. Like, The Old Guard is just a wildly, incredibly great movie.
Starting point is 00:54:17 Did either of you see that movie yet? No, but you recommended it. Oh, man. It was good, and it really just made me think about how these movies get made, and the fact that, you know, Gina Prince Bythwood, who directed The Old Guard, it was much more of a, like, Netflix was, I'm guessing, kind of more like, okay, make a movie. And they probably had some notes, but she just made it and worked with, you know,
Starting point is 00:54:36 like, they made a movie. And then it feels like you watch it, you're like, this is a movie with an idea, and it's, like, really cool. and it has this director's, like, signature great touch and these great actors, and everyone rules, and it's good. And Wonder Woman just feels like a thousand people were just constantly being like, ah, can we get this? Like, can we this?
Starting point is 00:54:50 She needs the gold armor because the armor is, like, we want to use it in the marketing materials. And, like, it just, it feels like that big mess with a million fingers on it. And I wish that they hadn't done that. Like, I wish they'd just given Jenkins more room to play with. And I'm kind of just assuming that's what happened. But I think that's maybe the case.
Starting point is 00:55:07 And it's too bad because, how do you pronounce it, Jason? Gal Gadot. Gal Godot. Gal Godot is a fantastic Wonder Woman, and she deserves better, and hopefully she's good in the next one. Yeah, hopefully. Cool.
